0:04:26 > 0:04:30CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:04:34 > 0:04:39Ladies and gentlemen, our Children in Need Choir. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:04:39 > 0:04:43Well done all of you, and we will hear more from our wonderful choir

0:04:43 > 0:04:50later in the evening. Also coming up in this BBC Children in Need 2-1,

0:04:50 > 0:04:57music from a popular vocal group, they represented team Tom in the

0:04:57 > 0:05:08final of the voice earlier in the year, Into The Ark. And

0:05:08 > 0:05:12Pembrokeshire born Betsy.Later, we have a rather special performance

0:05:12 > 0:05:18from a man many of you will have seen last week frantic DIY SOS for

0:05:18 > 0:05:21Children in Need and transforming a project that supports young people

0:05:21 > 0:05:26in care in Swansea. Tonight, he swaps his hard hat for a guitar and

0:05:26 > 0:05:31microphone. Nick Knowles is here to sing specially for us.We really to

0:05:31 > 0:05:35hear that. And we will look at how the money

0:05:35 > 0:05:39raised by Children in Need has been helping young people across Wales.

0:05:39 > 0:05:44World Champion boxer Lee Selby and actor Richard Mylan and Michael

0:05:44 > 0:05:49Sheen, yes, I did say Michael Sheen, have been to visit some projects,

0:05:49 > 0:05:52and meet children that have been helped over the past year by money

0:05:52 > 0:05:58you donated. It's a packed show. With no further ado, we ask the

0:05:58 > 0:06:01voice of rugby Eddie Butler to do a quick round-up in his own inimitable

0:06:01 > 0:06:05style of some of the ways you have been raising money for Children in

0:06:05 > 0:06:08Need this year.

0:06:12 > 0:06:17Already, Mr Bear, then with great care, get set and go.

0:06:17 > 0:06:25Walking the walk, the 14 locks that step down towards Newport.

0:06:25 > 0:06:29Brothers and sisters, mind the blisters.

0:06:29 > 0:06:36Uphill through woodland, windswept on the Gower at three miles an hour

0:06:36 > 0:06:42and softly land upon the sand. Fund raising, hair raising, inch by

0:06:42 > 0:06:50inch, brick by brick, don't look down, Elaine, it will make you sick.

0:06:50 > 0:06:55There, grab yourself a bear, page is of a bear. Spin of a few calories

0:06:55 > 0:07:04and put them back on here. Biking, baking and bouncing in the zone, all

0:07:04 > 0:07:08walking, the bigger the better, the longer the conga

0:07:08 > 0:07:10walking, the bigger the better, the longer the conga. A game of footy,

0:07:10 > 0:07:13to pull on the shirt, to where the skirt.

0:07:13 > 0:07:27The scouts will be out looking for talent. The go it alone sing along.

0:07:27 > 0:07:30Seaside past time, pulling a truck, good luck.

0:07:30 > 0:07:42Andy Powell, that's it, the one in the golf buggy.

0:07:42 > 0:07:49Just as trim, here in the gym, a sort of stream or strip, let it rip.

0:07:49 > 0:07:54And a longer mock, the full lock must say goodbye to the hair for the

0:07:54 > 0:08:00bear. To you and all your madcap schemes, whatever the themes, thank

0:08:00 > 0:08:06you for taking the time, taking the lead, to do all this for Children in

0:08:06 > 0:08:07Need.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14Thank you to everyone that has raised money for Children in Need

0:08:14 > 0:08:18this year, and to all of you that donated. The UK total on Friday

0:08:18 > 0:08:29night was a record-breaking 50,000,160.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34Amazing, thank you so much. It is not too late if you would still like

0:08:34 > 0:08:36to contribute.

0:08:58 > 0:09:04I'm sure many of you will have watched the incredible DIY SOS, The

0:09:04 > 0:09:07Million Pound Build the Children in Need. This year, the team were given

0:09:07 > 0:09:11one of their biggest challenges to date, to build a centre and

0:09:11 > 0:09:15supported housing for young people in care and leaving care in Swansea.

0:09:15 > 0:09:20Look who I have spotted in our audience, Mr DIY SOS himself, Mr

0:09:20 > 0:09:24Nick Knowles. Welcome to Wales.I am excited to be here. It is nice to be

0:09:24 > 0:09:28back.We will chat later in a few moments about what it is you guys

0:09:28 > 0:09:32did for the project. But let's have a reminder of the challenge you and

0:09:32 > 0:09:37the team were given. When we met them and the team at The

0:09:37 > 0:09:40Roots Foundation, they were doing their best to support young people

0:09:40 > 0:09:43in care, but their old hut was up to the job. There was only one thing

0:09:43 > 0:09:52for it.Three... To...One... . 800 volunteers attempted the impossible

0:09:52 > 0:09:56by undertaking the biggest single bill we've ever done.

0:09:58 > 0:10:04And we've only gone and done it. An epic feat of engineering and design

0:10:04 > 0:10:08that will give Emma the potential to help thousands of children over the

0:10:08 > 0:10:11coming years.

0:10:15 > 0:10:19It's amazing. Your new home to do what you need to

0:10:19 > 0:10:24do.My, gosh, it is more than I thought it would be.

0:10:24 > 0:10:28We are so overwhelmed with your kindness, I am so touched. And on

0:10:28 > 0:10:31behalf of the team, we want to tell you that you are going to make a

0:10:31 > 0:10:37huge difference to people's lives. Nick, what an amazing project.We

0:10:37 > 0:10:41were sitting here thinking how ridiculous and epic it was, and it

0:10:41 > 0:10:46is huge. To do the garden at the back, we had to move 1500 tonnes of

0:10:46 > 0:10:52stone. It was a marsh will stop to get a garden out there, and the guy

0:10:52 > 0:10:59from the local quarry, £280 per time. He gave us 500 tonnes P. Three

0:10:59 > 0:11:02kilometres of wood to make the building, three kilometres on

0:11:02 > 0:11:08cladding for the outside.Huge. The people of Swansea came and supported

0:11:08 > 0:11:14you.Extraordinary. 200 people a day. 600 or 700 in total, swapping

0:11:14 > 0:11:19and changing, from Swansea, south Wales, from all over Wales, and

0:11:19 > 0:11:23indeed, from the whole of the UK. They came from all over to make it

0:11:23 > 0:11:26happen. We thought it was an important project for Emma and her

0:11:26 > 0:11:30team. She is amazing, she does amazing things for young people. You

0:11:30 > 0:11:34are here with Emma from the project, The Roots Foundation. What does this

0:11:34 > 0:11:40project mean to people impacted by it?I think it's going to be huge,

0:11:40 > 0:11:46actually. The many young people, they feel isolated, lonely, they

0:11:46 > 0:11:49have mental health issues, there's physical issues for young people. To

0:11:49 > 0:11:54have what we think is a team of a family around them, it will help of

0:11:54 > 0:11:58confidence and self-esteem. To know that so many people came forward,

0:11:58 > 0:12:02and it was hundreds of people. We are still in touch with many people

0:12:02 > 0:12:05today, and they come back and forth. When we watched the broadcast on

0:12:05 > 0:12:10Wednesday, they came in and watched it with us. They are now part of our

0:12:10 > 0:12:14family, and it is amazing. If you think about 80,000 children are in

0:12:14 > 0:12:27care, very often, through no full of their own. When they come out, they

0:12:27 > 0:12:29are dropped. Is it one in four or something like that which are

0:12:29 > 0:12:32homeless? It is ridiculous for the kids that have been dealt the worst

0:12:32 > 0:12:35hand starting in life. We often give more care rather than less. I will

0:12:35 > 0:12:38say, do still need funding to keep going. And it is amazing work.We

0:12:38 > 0:12:40have a new building, so we need to find running costs for the building,

0:12:40 > 0:12:43and that is important. We want the legacy to continue, these people

0:12:43 > 0:12:47worked so hard on it, they need it to continue for the foreseeable

0:12:47 > 0:12:50future. It is very important. I know you will continue your

0:12:50 > 0:12:56relationship with Children in Need. Stick around because we are going to

0:12:56 > 0:13:01get Nick singing. We haven't given her the choice. Otherwise, she would

0:13:01 > 0:13:06be up and out of here. She wanted to be sat next to Charlie Sheen...

0:13:06 > 0:13:12Michael Sheen. Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for

0:13:12 > 0:13:17Nick Knowles and Emma, and the whole DIY SOS team who did an exceptional

0:13:17 > 0:13:20job for Children in Need this year.

0:13:22 > 0:13:26Your donation support a huge variety of activities across the country.

0:13:26 > 0:13:30One project run by South Wales contemporary circus company

0:13:30 > 0:13:35organised chaos is helping young people from disadvantaged areas. We

0:13:35 > 0:13:39asked local boy Michael Sheen to drop by on a surprise visit to find

0:13:39 > 0:13:41out more about the work they are doing.

0:13:41 > 0:13:48I'm outside here in Neath, Port Talbot, my hometown. Inside there,

0:13:48 > 0:13:54there is a brilliant social enterprise called Organised Chaos.

0:13:54 > 0:13:59These are communities that grew up behind Ironworks, those industries

0:13:59 > 0:14:05that have gone away now. But the communities are still here.It has

0:14:05 > 0:14:11changed a lot.What happened?When you came here six years ago, we

0:14:11 > 0:14:14didn't have the lease on the building, we were only open on a

0:14:14 > 0:14:19Friday night. Now we are open five nights a week, geared towards young

0:14:19 > 0:14:24people. The problem we get with older teenagers is drink and drugs,

0:14:24 > 0:14:28and that becomes the natural path. It is important to create a space

0:14:28 > 0:14:33where not only can they come together, but they can hang out and

0:14:33 > 0:14:38join in the classes, volunteer with us, be part of it. But for us more

0:14:38 > 0:14:40than anything, it is an opportunity to travel and meet other

0:14:40 > 0:14:49professionals. It gives them hope. We see social enterprises like this

0:14:49 > 0:14:53giving opportunity to young people, offering them the opportunity to

0:14:53 > 0:14:56come together, work together, they get a sense of solidarity with each

0:14:56 > 0:15:00other. But the confidence they gain as well, they can take off into

0:15:00 > 0:15:04their lives in other ways.If we didn't have this, there would be a

0:15:04 > 0:15:07lot more teenagers on the streets, not putting skills they didn't know

0:15:07 > 0:15:12they had to good use. I aim to be more confident around

0:15:12 > 0:15:16people and it has helped me with my co-ordination and with doing things.

0:15:16 > 0:15:22I used to be really shy, and I have been dancing since I was two, and I

0:15:22 > 0:15:27hated going on stage. Now, I am always on stage.

0:15:27 > 0:15:31I didn't like talking to anyone, and now I will just talk to anyone.

0:15:31 > 0:15:37Really? And it through doing stuff here that has helped?

0:15:37 > 0:15:41A lot of friends, a lot of skills, it made me cope a lot more at

0:15:41 > 0:15:47school, and it has really helped.I love hanging out here, it's great.

0:15:47 > 0:15:51Children in Need has given us the ability to forward plan activities

0:15:51 > 0:15:54for the young people. Without Children in Need, we wouldn't have

0:15:54 > 0:15:56that positive outlook for the future.

0:15:56 > 0:16:01There are people like Nicola all over the country doing incredible

0:16:01 > 0:16:06work and giving opportunities to young people, really changing lives.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09There's just so much that makes me happy, and fills my heart with joy

0:16:09 > 0:16:14about coming here and seeing what's going on. So the support that people

0:16:14 > 0:16:18like Nicola get by people like you giving money to Children in Need is

0:16:18 > 0:16:23absolutely so important. So that's what you're supporting. That's what

0:16:23 > 0:16:30you're doing, you're changing lives.

0:16:30 > 0:16:35A big thank you to Michael for taking time out of his busy filming

0:16:35 > 0:16:39schedule to visit organised chaos, and Michael, we love the hair.

0:16:39 > 0:16:43Always great to see how your donations are hoping to support

0:16:43 > 0:16:46young people right across Wales, and you can still give the BBC Children

0:16:46 > 0:16:54in Need. This is a quick reminder how.We just wanted to say a big

0:16:54 > 0:16:58thank you to all of the people that have donated generally to this

0:16:58 > 0:17:10year's Children in Need.To

0:17:14 > 0:17:17thank you!

0:17:22 > 0:17:26Now it is time for some or music. Our next act shop fame back in 2008

0:17:26 > 0:17:31when they won the BBC's last choir standing, and quickly followed it up

0:17:31 > 0:17:36with a classical Brit for album of the year.The line-up has seen a few

0:17:36 > 0:17:41changes since then but they continue to thrill audiences far and wide.

0:17:41 > 0:17:44Just embarked on their annual Christmas tour, here they are just

0:17:44 > 0:17:49for you, only men aloud.

0:17:58 > 0:18:12# I have run, I have crawled, and I have scaled the city walls.

0:18:12 > 0:18:20# These city walls, only to be with you.

0:18:20 > 0:18:30# But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

0:18:32 > 0:18:38# But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

0:18:42 > 0:18:55# I have kissed her knee lips, felt the in her fingertips, it burned

0:18:55 > 0:18:59like fire.

0:18:59 > 0:19:06# It was burning inside her.

0:19:06 > 0:19:12# I have spoke with the tongues of angels, I have hurled the hands of

0:19:12 > 0:19:16the devil.

0:19:16 > 0:19:23# It was warm in the night.

0:19:23 > 0:19:26# It was warm in the night.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28# I was cold as a stone

0:19:28 > 0:19:47# But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

0:19:53 > 0:20:00# Glory, Glory hallelujah.

0:20:01 > 0:20:05# Glory, Glory hallelujah.

0:20:05 > 0:20:08# Glory, Glory hallelujah.

0:20:08 > 0:20:14# Glory, Glory hallelujah.

0:20:14 > 0:20:18# Glory, Glory hallelujah.

0:20:22 > 0:20:31# Is truth is marching...

0:20:31 > 0:20:36# I believe in the kingdom come.

0:20:36 > 0:20:41# I believe in the kingdom come.

0:20:47 > 0:20:52# Carried the cross Of my shame, Of my shame

0:20:52 > 0:20:56# You know I believed it.

0:20:56 > 0:20:59# You know I believed it.

0:20:59 > 0:21:04# But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

0:21:07 > 0:21:13# Glory, Glory hallelujah.

0:21:13 > 0:21:14# Glory, Glory hallelujah.

0:21:14 > 0:21:24# But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

0:21:34 > 0:21:39APPLAUSE

0:21:39 > 0:21:43APPLAUSE Absolutely amazing. Only men aloud

0:21:43 > 0:21:48with their version of the U2 classic, I still haven't found what

0:21:48 > 0:21:56I'm looking for. Thank you so much, gentlemen, brilliant stuff. Now,

0:21:56 > 0:22:01boxing has many a story to tell about lives turned around by the

0:22:01 > 0:22:04sport. Even boxing legend Muhammad Ali spoke about how it kept him on

0:22:04 > 0:22:10the straight and narrow. We asked IBF world featherweight champion Li

0:22:10 > 0:22:13Selby to visit a project in Port Talbot, supported by your donations,

0:22:13 > 0:22:18to give one young man the surprise of his life.

0:22:21 > 0:22:24Bulldogs is a busy boxing gym at the heart of the local community in

0:22:24 > 0:22:32portal but. -- Port Talbot. Children in Need supports a scheme at the gym

0:22:32 > 0:22:36that helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

0:22:36 > 0:22:3916-year-old Ronan is one young person who has benefited from your

0:22:39 > 0:22:45donations. He has been boxing with the club for four years, and it has

0:22:45 > 0:22:52helped see him through some difficult times.I have come to meet

0:22:52 > 0:22:54Ronan, by the sounds of things he has had a similar background to

0:22:54 > 0:22:59myself growing up. I am coming down to surprise him, it will be nice to

0:22:59 > 0:23:06meet him. Ronan, do you want to do some sparring?Oh, no! No way! I am

0:23:06 > 0:23:14good.Want to do a couple of bags? Yes.The funding pays for the use of

0:23:14 > 0:23:19the gym, a support worker and fitness instructor, all to help

0:23:19 > 0:23:23young people feel healthier, happier and less isolated.Growing up I had

0:23:23 > 0:23:29trouble back home, I could say. How's it going for you?I haven't

0:23:29 > 0:23:37had the best of upbringings, but my mum put me in this programme. As

0:23:37 > 0:23:44long as I felt worried, I was never left without anything, she would

0:23:44 > 0:23:49cook me food, I am my clothes, even if she was drunk. To be honest you

0:23:49 > 0:23:54are more similar to myself and what I realised. Growing up, my mum had a

0:23:54 > 0:23:58serious drinking problem the years. One night we were just sitting down

0:23:58 > 0:24:02normally watching TV, having a bit of food, and all of a sudden my

0:24:02 > 0:24:06mother went into a massive seizure, she was just on the floor, fitting.

0:24:06 > 0:24:12I had to step up and save her life then. I saved her life.It is a lot

0:24:12 > 0:24:17for a young lads to go through. I know when I joined the amateur gym,

0:24:17 > 0:24:25it helped me out massively. When I came here, it was like, don't know

0:24:25 > 0:24:33anyone, everyone just took me under their wing. This turnaround has

0:24:33 > 0:24:35already seen Ronan have the confidence to start his own

0:24:35 > 0:24:44gardening business. It has help me achieve asking for work and finding

0:24:44 > 0:24:47an apprenticeship.

0:24:50 > 0:24:55With what he has gained, Ronan is now giving back to his community by

0:24:55 > 0:25:02coaching and training a group of local young boxers.Very dedicated,

0:25:02 > 0:25:07hard-working. A young sort of entrepreneur. Grown into a lovely

0:25:07 > 0:25:12young man who is what the gym is about. He is a success story. The

0:25:12 > 0:25:15gym benefits from Ronan, always helping us out with the younger

0:25:15 > 0:25:21group, doing pads and everything. He has been good.It was great coming

0:25:21 > 0:25:24down here tonight and meeting Ronan and the rest of the kids. The fee

0:25:24 > 0:25:30doesn't make a good boxer, he will make a good trainer. -- if he

0:25:30 > 0:25:33doesn't.So good to see how a project that your money supports has

0:25:33 > 0:25:38really helped Ronan find his feet and grow in confidence and stop also

0:25:38 > 0:25:42come huge thanks to Li Selby for taking the time to visit Bulldogs in

0:25:42 > 0:25:44Port Talbot.

0:26:22 > 0:26:26Now, our next musical guests made their name as finalists in the voice

0:26:26 > 0:26:31earlier this year. Representing team Tom. Local lads from Blackwood, they

0:26:31 > 0:26:34have been performing together since their teens. Here now with their

0:26:34 > 0:26:41brand-new single, straight to your door, please give a big Children in

0:26:41 > 0:26:46Need welcome to Into the Arc.

0:26:46 > 0:26:52#I call you sweetheart.

0:26:52 > 0:27:03# Because the sun shines where you are.

0:27:03 > 0:27:15# Well, me, I'm just like the dark.

0:27:15 > 0:27:25# Because me and the moon both thought we were stars.

0:27:25 > 0:27:35# But they say about me babe, they are saying about me, babe.

0:27:35 > 0:27:40#

0:27:40 > 0:27:53# They say about me any more, love's and expected. -- unexpected.

0:27:53 > 0:28:03# So I don't spec queued to care like before. -- I don't expect you.

0:28:03 > 0:28:18# No, I ain't alone. You are deep in my soul. I'm walking on hope.

0:28:18 > 0:28:29# Treated you wrong, baby, must have been 1000 times.

0:28:29 > 0:28:36# This time, I won't hold back, I can't stand it, how you throw your

0:28:36 > 0:28:39love around.

0:28:39 > 0:28:53# I was alone, and, girl, you took my soul, walking on home.

0:28:53 > 0:29:03# Home, home, I ain't alone.

0:29:03 > 0:29:14# I'll hold my own, straight to your door, straight to your door.

0:29:14 > 0:29:27# Oh, baby, straight to your door, baby.

0:29:27 > 0:29:35# I'll be home, home.

0:29:35 > 0:29:45# Oh baby, straight to your door, baby.

0:29:45 > 0:29:57# I'll be home, oh...

0:29:57 > 0:30:10# But I ain't alone, you're deep in my soul.

0:30:10 > 0:30:20# Straight to your door, babe. Straight to your door.

0:30:23 > 0:30:27CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:30:32 > 0:30:36A big thank you to Into the Ark. Great stuff, lads, good luck with

0:30:36 > 0:30:39the single. Over to Lucy, who has found a familiar face in the

0:30:39 > 0:30:45audience. It is only rugby legend Gareth

0:30:45 > 0:30:51Thomas. Lovely to see you. How are you doing?Really well, thank you.

0:30:51 > 0:30:55Like many of our audience, I really enjoyed Alfie Potter is my army.

0:30:55 > 0:31:01How big a challenge was it to get a group of young people fit enough to

0:31:01 > 0:31:05run the card of half marathon.I thought it was tough with the women,

0:31:05 > 0:31:10but taking a group of 17-23 year old, I didn't have much hair at the

0:31:10 > 0:31:14start of it, but at the end I had much less!

0:31:14 > 0:31:21Everyone in life, I feel, deserves the opportunity of greatness. Some

0:31:21 > 0:31:25people don't get a chance for what ever reason, and I wanted to give

0:31:25 > 0:31:29them that opportunity. They were a bunch of good people, but at the end

0:31:29 > 0:31:33of it, were absolutely great people. We should have a quick reminder of

0:31:33 > 0:31:36how everybody got on, let's take a look.

0:31:39 > 0:31:41Remember who you are!

0:31:44 > 0:31:47Across the summer, the 17-21 -year-olds have been following a

0:31:47 > 0:31:51training programme.

0:31:52 > 0:31:55There have been times when they have stuck to the training plan. They

0:31:55 > 0:32:01have been happy and positive, and all of a sudden, you have a mood

0:32:01 > 0:32:06swing and they fight against me. Even if it is for ten seconds. Try

0:32:06 > 0:32:12not to be down on everything.I tried. It doesn't work.I am too

0:32:12 > 0:32:16tired. I want to eat.It has been an up and down process with them. I

0:32:16 > 0:32:21have been really worried. My back legs are killing, but I am still

0:32:21 > 0:32:26doing it.Are you going to finish? Definitely.They will remember it

0:32:26 > 0:32:32for their lives. It has been hard work.

0:32:35 > 0:32:38They did so well. Was it a bigger challenge than you thought it was

0:32:38 > 0:32:41going to be to get everybody over the line?

0:32:41 > 0:32:45There were times when I really questioned if it was going to be

0:32:45 > 0:32:50successful. But as with the whole process, I stuck to it like my

0:32:50 > 0:32:54rugby, I was committed to it. A lot of them didn't know who they were at

0:32:54 > 0:32:57the start of it, and going through the process, they were figuring out

0:32:57 > 0:33:01that. They were figuring out how good they could be.

0:33:01 > 0:33:06And one of your army, Bradley, is with us. You did brilliantly in the

0:33:06 > 0:33:11Cardiff half marathon. What was your time.One hour and 49 minutes.That

0:33:11 > 0:33:17is astonishing. Were you proud of that?People train most of their

0:33:17 > 0:33:24life to achieve that. Absolutely brilliant. You are part of a group,

0:33:24 > 0:33:28a charity from Anglesey that receives help from Children in Need.

0:33:28 > 0:33:33What was it like to run the Cardiff half as a group? It was nice to come

0:33:33 > 0:33:38together as one big group, like, because in a homeless hostel, we

0:33:38 > 0:33:44didn't do much, like, go out. For Alfie to come down was enormous. How

0:33:44 > 0:33:49has it help you?It helped me when me and my mum were going through

0:33:49 > 0:33:53tough times with each other. They took me on and supported me all

0:33:53 > 0:33:56away, helped me get back into college, helped me get into my

0:33:56 > 0:34:01fitness, and healthier eating. And supported me a hell of a lot.You

0:34:01 > 0:34:05must be so proud.Unbelievably proud. This one and all the others,

0:34:05 > 0:34:10great.Brilliant. Thank you so much for coming in and talking to us.

0:34:10 > 0:34:14Thank you so much, Bradley and Alfie. APPLAUSE

0:34:17 > 0:34:21For most children, parents are the ones who do the caring and looking

0:34:21 > 0:34:26after, even if they can sometimes be a bit annoying. This next film

0:34:26 > 0:34:32features a very special young lady who has had to take on those

0:34:32 > 0:34:35responsibilities and a project that BBC Children in Need supports, which

0:34:35 > 0:34:39offers her the chance to spend time with people her own age.

0:34:41 > 0:34:48This is 13-year-old Shri Arne.I care for our mum and look after my

0:34:48 > 0:34:52sister. I normally wake up at 6am on a

0:34:52 > 0:34:56school day, because my sister takes a long time to get up. And then I

0:34:56 > 0:35:00have to get myself ready. And my sister ready. And I get breakfast

0:35:00 > 0:35:08ready.Her mum has debilitating osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia. It

0:35:08 > 0:35:12is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body, making

0:35:12 > 0:35:17everyday tasks impossible to complete.

0:35:17 > 0:35:21She has pain in all her joints. She gets tired easily.

0:35:21 > 0:35:28I know she wants to help, but I can see she can't help.

0:35:28 > 0:35:34Sometimes, I'm worried because she's too young. But everything is heavy,

0:35:34 > 0:35:38like a big responsibility, which she is doing for me.

0:35:38 > 0:35:44Due to her mum's condition, she takes on most of the household jobs.

0:35:44 > 0:35:48And as her mum finds it so difficult to get about, she even takes on the

0:35:48 > 0:35:54weekly food shop. I think the only time she ever comes

0:35:54 > 0:35:59out is when we do clothes shopping, because, you know, my sister is so

0:35:59 > 0:36:03picky with her clothes. But other than that, my mum stays in the car

0:36:03 > 0:36:11and I do most of the shopping. I can manage most of the time.

0:36:14 > 0:36:17Your donations support a project that's made a huge difference to

0:36:17 > 0:36:24her. She gets the much-needed break she needs thanks to a music project

0:36:24 > 0:36:30run by the YMCA in Swansea. This is her time to relax, have fun and hang

0:36:30 > 0:36:35out with her friends. The music studio, it is important to

0:36:35 > 0:36:39me, because I can use instruments and create music with other people.

0:36:39 > 0:36:43Kind of like a band, and I enjoy being there with my friends. It's

0:36:43 > 0:36:48quite a lot of fun. Children in Need funding is really

0:36:48 > 0:36:51important for recording industry give. It provides young people with

0:36:51 > 0:36:55an opportunity to come here, and members of staff can support them to

0:36:55 > 0:36:57learn different music instruments, to work on their Lindrick abiding

0:36:57 > 0:37:02skills, and put get an album, if that's what they want to do.

0:37:02 > 0:37:08It is like a big family, because we understand each other, and it is

0:37:08 > 0:37:12nice to talk to someone that has the same job as you. It helps your

0:37:12 > 0:37:16confidence, and makes you feel better.

0:37:16 > 0:37:20Your donations to BBC Children in Need really help young people all

0:37:20 > 0:37:24over Wales. And it's not too late to help.

0:37:37 > 0:37:38Thank you.

0:37:42 > 0:37:47Now, at the beginning of the show, we promised you a rare musical

0:37:47 > 0:37:53treat. Yes, the man who has been the face of DIY SOS since it began 13

0:41:32 > 0:41:38Nick Knowles with the Robert Palmer classic there. That went well, did

0:41:38 > 0:41:42you enjoy it?It was really nice. I felt nervous about doing live

0:41:42 > 0:41:46performances like that. I have spent the last 35 years playing privately

0:41:46 > 0:41:55with my brother on base guitar. People that know me know that is

0:41:55 > 0:41:59what I do, the rest of the world didn't. I was still nervous, but I

0:41:59 > 0:42:03enjoyed it.We are into it. Thank you for sharing that. The album is

0:42:03 > 0:42:07out, too. Thank you for being with us this evening and for being a huge

0:42:07 > 0:42:12supporter of Children in Need. Nick Knowles, everybody.Thank you.

0:42:12 > 0:42:14CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:42:19 > 0:42:24Now, earlier this year, you may have seen a BBC film about Welsh actor

0:42:24 > 0:42:28Richard Mylan and his autistic son, so it was a quick yes when we asked

0:42:28 > 0:42:32Richard if you want to do visit a project in Wrexham that supports

0:42:32 > 0:42:36children and young people on the autistic spectrum.

0:42:37 > 0:42:44What are you worried about?Worried about the flies and butterflies, and

0:42:44 > 0:42:50ladybirds, and bees.It is a lot to worry about, isn't it.

0:42:50 > 0:42:55Earlier this year, my son and I made a documentary about the joys and

0:42:55 > 0:43:03difficulties of being a dad, caring for an autistic son. That is a bike.

0:43:05 > 0:43:08His orders means his brain is why different you to other people. He

0:43:08 > 0:43:14can struggle with language and social interaction. Today, I'm

0:43:14 > 0:43:19heading to Wrexham, to meet another young autistic person, 12-year-old

0:43:19 > 0:43:24Millie, and her mum Alison. When she was four and a half, we knew there

0:43:24 > 0:43:28was something, because at home it was quite challenging.

0:43:28 > 0:43:31She was referred to the paediatrician before her fifth

0:43:31 > 0:43:35birthday. They did an assessment in the hospital, and the next day, I

0:43:35 > 0:43:40had a phone call to go in, and she was diagnosed with autism.

0:43:40 > 0:43:47We felt absolutely devastated. It was a pretty hard time.

0:43:50 > 0:43:58Millie and Alison have invited me to Your Space, a charity making a big

0:43:58 > 0:44:02difference to their lives. It is an opportunity to grab a chat with

0:44:02 > 0:44:05Millie's mum, about how challenging things have been, especially in the

0:44:05 > 0:44:10early days. How was Millie's School of?Her

0:44:10 > 0:44:13school life was pretty bad. What ever happened during a school day,

0:44:13 > 0:44:18she would come home and recreate it at home.Did it impact on family

0:44:18 > 0:44:23life?Dreadfully. What we were doing wasn't working. The house would be

0:44:23 > 0:44:29trashed, sofas upended. You had to see it to believe it, the physical

0:44:29 > 0:44:32strength as a child she had when she had a knock-down.The creative

0:44:32 > 0:44:39downtime, was she into any of that, drawing or art?Millie wouldn't even

0:44:39 > 0:44:43sit down to eat. She would constantly be on the go. Really

0:44:43 > 0:44:46struggle to have calmed time. I don't think she has ever watched a

0:44:46 > 0:44:51DVD or film. One of the sessions that Millie has

0:44:51 > 0:44:56responded really well too is the expressive art sessions, sessions

0:44:56 > 0:45:08funded by your Children in Need donations.

0:45:08 > 0:45:11The session today includes mask-making and Millie has a

0:45:11 > 0:45:16surprise for me. Is that me? Can I wear this for the rest of the

0:45:16 > 0:45:18interview? LAUGHTER I love that, can I take that with

0:45:18 > 0:45:26me?Guess.And do you do drama sometimes?Yes, we do do drama

0:45:26 > 0:45:32sometimes.Football manager role play.Acting, right up my street. If

0:45:32 > 0:45:36we are going to win this league, I don't know if I have it in me, I

0:45:36 > 0:45:40think I might have to go and play for Accrington Stanley. You're

0:45:40 > 0:45:48fired!OK. This place is brilliant, what kind of impact as it had?A

0:45:48 > 0:45:51huge impact, it is created, something different on every table,

0:45:51 > 0:45:55and they can do whatever they want to do. If they want to sit down and

0:45:55 > 0:46:00chill out, they can do that. She can sit down and colour and raw. She

0:46:00 > 0:46:03will colour flowers and that is something she has never been able to

0:46:03 > 0:46:09do.It is great she has learned that.It has changed her a lot.They

0:46:09 > 0:46:12are learning how to follow and instruction, grateful concentration

0:46:12 > 0:46:15that it is the softer outcomes we are more inches to Dean, friendships

0:46:15 > 0:46:19forming, and the fact they are sitting together and engaging with

0:46:19 > 0:46:21somebody. Some children that have come to the session would never

0:50:51 > 0:50:56APPLAUSE

0:50:56 > 0:51:00APPLAUSE Let's who read for Pembrokeshire's

0:51:00 > 0:51:10very own pop diva, Betsy!CHEERING Now we are almost at the end of our

0:51:10 > 0:51:14Children in Need big Welsh show, but before we go, we have one last treat

0:51:14 > 0:51:19for you. Every year, a highlight of the Friday night appeal show is when

0:51:19 > 0:51:22children's wires from around the UK join together to sing a special

0:51:22 > 0:51:27arrangement of a classic song. In Wales, the choir was created from

0:51:27 > 0:51:31three schools in Cardiff and available Glamorgan we asked a

0:51:31 > 0:51:35choral wizard to help them prepare for their big night and here is a

0:51:35 > 0:51:39quick look at Tim putting them through their paces. All these

0:51:39 > 0:51:43choirs have been working with amazing teachers and are already

0:51:43 > 0:51:46sounding fantastic. I am dropping in for a lesson and to give them a few

0:51:46 > 0:51:52tips the big night. First stop, Fitz Alan high school in Cardiff.

0:51:53 > 0:52:01Hello. Can you spread out, please, so there is as much room as

0:52:01 > 0:52:04possible? As well as rehearsing this song it is important to do a proper

0:52:04 > 0:52:08warm up and to remember that singing together is about having fun. Just

0:52:08 > 0:52:12take one hand and shake.

0:52:15 > 0:52:18Whitchurch primary school and a choir made up of 42 children from

0:52:18 > 0:52:25year six. This is all about us working together as a team, it is

0:52:25 > 0:52:32about trying to be as good as we can and trying to free up our bodies.

0:52:32 > 0:52:35Your all out! LAUGHTER

0:52:36 > 0:52:43And the final stop, Cowbridge.

0:52:48 > 0:52:51# : the chain, Paul McShane!

0:52:51 > 0:52:58The song that they choir is singing is one of my very own favourites,

0:52:58 > 0:53:01and the wonderful BBC National of Wales have recorded the backing

0:53:01 > 0:53:12track for the whole of the UK to sing along to. With just one week to

0:53:12 > 0:53:21go before the big show, all of the hard work is starting to pay off.

0:53:21 > 0:53:24And there is one final surprise in store for the choir at Fitz Alan

0:53:24 > 0:53:33when Sophie Evans drops in to hear them sing. She played Dorothy in the

0:53:33 > 0:53:39West End production of the Wizard of Oz.Hello, how are you all? Good?

0:53:39 > 0:53:43New sound beautiful, are you enjoying it? I only little note

0:53:43 > 0:53:47would be to make sure you smile, because when you smile, a different

0:53:47 > 0:53:51sound comes out.A lovely energy, they really want to get it right,

0:53:51 > 0:53:56and I think they are going to be great. Our three Welsh choirs have

0:53:56 > 0:54:00worked so hard, and I can't wait to hear them singing with the rest of

0:54:00 > 0:54:05the UK, flying the flag for Wales on Children in Need night.

0:54:06 > 0:54:13# Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far

0:54:13 > 0:54:15behind me.

0:54:17 > 0:54:23I felt so much energy and enthusiasm coming off me.I am so nervous, it

0:54:25 > 0:54:29Brilliant, brilliant.

0:54:31 > 0:54:36Here they are, all 110 of them. I think they deserve a big round of

0:54:46 > 0:54:51You all did brilliantly on Friday night. In fact, you were so good, we

0:56:00 > 0:56:05Somewhere Over The Rainbow, skies are blue, and the dreams that you

0:56:05 > 0:56:11dare to dream maybe do come true.
