0:15:56 > 0:16:01- Browning it first means it's crisp - and not limp in the casserole.

0:16:01 > 0:16:06- I don't like calling it a casserole - as it sounds old-fashioned...

0:16:06 > 0:16:09- ..so I'll refer to it as a traybake.

0:16:09 > 0:16:11- Next, there's an onion.

0:16:11 > 0:16:15- You can use any kind of onion - or a leek would add sweetness.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19- Can you use spring onions?- - Yes, you can.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22- Add them at the end - as they cook quickly.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24- I've got garlic.

0:16:29 > 0:16:33- You can use as much as you like - but I'll add two cloves today.

0:16:33 > 0:16:38- Garlic is great at this time of year - for the seasonal colds.

0:17:06 > 0:17:10- Add button mushrooms whole - or chop up the larger ones.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13- You're throwing everything in!

0:17:13 > 0:17:17- You could add some olives - if you've got some left in a jar.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19- I'd leave those out.

0:17:19 > 0:17:22- Sorry, but I don't like them.

0:17:22 > 0:17:26- Add them and you can leave them - on the side of your plate...

0:17:31 > 0:17:35- I know you don't like them - but you won't notice the flavour.

0:17:36 > 0:17:40- It depends on your children - but you can add chilli.

0:17:40 > 0:17:44- I teach children and a lot of them - like their food to have a kick!

0:17:44 > 0:17:46- We'll add a touch of chilli.

0:17:47 > 0:17:48- I think that's everything.

0:17:49 > 0:17:51- Add the stock at the end.

0:17:52 > 0:17:53- Is that vegetable stock?

0:17:53 > 0:17:55- Is that vegetable stock?- - Use vegetable or chicken stock.

0:17:55 > 0:18:00- The recipe does say to add a tin - of tomatoes but I haven't got any.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03- You might not have one - in your cupboard.

0:18:04 > 0:18:07- You can leave it out - as the stock adds plenty of liquid.

0:18:08 > 0:18:12- You could even add - some cherry tomatoes at the end.

0:36:47 > 0:36:50- They have been with me - from the start.

0:37:25 > 0:37:29- I've got a name in my head - but I can't look beyond Ian.

0:37:29 > 0:37:31- I need to beat him first...

0:37:32 > 0:37:35- ..before looking to fight - an American in Vegas.

0:37:35 > 0:37:41- The UFC might organize something - so I get a good fight in America.

0:37:42 > 0:37:45- Good luck for the future, Brett.

0:39:17 > 0:39:19- Happy Random Acts of Kindness Day.

0:39:19 > 0:39:21- Is that nice?

0:39:22 > 0:39:26- The relationship between - the young and elderly is important.

0:39:26 > 0:39:27- Thank you.

0:39:27 > 0:39:29- Thank you.- - You're welcome.

0:39:30 > 0:39:31- It's very important.

0:39:32 > 0:39:34- You can see - that it lifts their spirits.

0:39:35 > 0:39:39- It takes them back to when - their own children were young.

0:39:40 > 0:39:45- It's great to see them - and they bring cakes as well!

0:39:48 > 0:39:51- Thank you ever so much.

0:39:51 > 0:39:53- I am honoured. Thank you.

0:39:55 > 0:39:59- We've enjoyed chatting with them - and giving them cakes.

0:39:59 > 0:40:02- I haven't been to a place - like this before.

0:40:02 > 0:40:06- It's a new experience for me.

0:40:06 > 0:40:10- I'll be back to do it again.

0:40:11 > 0:40:15- It's been special for me because - I've given cakes to old people.

0:40:16 > 0:40:21- Seeing them smile - makes me happy too.

0:40:23 > 0:40:24- We've worked very hard.

0:40:24 > 0:40:26- We've worked very hard.- - Yes!

0:40:26 > 0:40:31- There are a few cakes left, - so there's just one thing for it...

0:40:31 > 0:40:32- ..cheers!

0:40:38 > 0:40:42- Yes, I had a memorable day.

0:40:42 > 0:40:46- Thanks to the children - and the residents for their company.

0:40:46 > 0:40:51- Next, we venture to the garden for - some gardening advice from Ieuan.

0:41:04 > 0:41:07- It's a relatively quiet period - in the garden...

0:41:07 > 0:41:12- ..so February is the ideal time - to clear your flower beds...

0:41:12 > 0:41:18- ..do some weeding and prepare - the soil for planting in the spring.

0:41:18 > 0:41:22- I've got more work than usual...

0:41:22 > 0:41:26- ..because this corner - has been neglected...

0:41:26 > 0:41:30- ..thanks to three consecutive - wet and windy winters.

0:41:32 > 0:41:36- As a result, this border - has been overrun with brambles.

0:41:37 > 0:41:41- The brambles died over the winter - so are easier to clear away.

0:41:41 > 0:41:47- Cut back and collect the branches - into a heap to be burned...

0:41:47 > 0:41:51- ..before attempting the tough task - of removing the roots.

0:41:53 > 0:41:56- These are very stubborn...

0:41:56 > 0:41:59- ..so dig deep to get rid of them.

0:42:04 > 0:42:09- This one was incredibly stubborn - and there's more to clear...

0:42:09 > 0:42:14- ..but I'll turn - my attention to another task...

0:42:14 > 0:42:17- ..which is the pruning - of this Wiegela shrub.

0:42:18 > 0:42:21- It was almost choked - by the brambles...

0:42:22 > 0:42:26- ..so the stems fought for light - and grew upwards...

0:42:26 > 0:42:30- ..as opposed to growing outwards.

0:42:31 > 0:42:37- The Wiegela generally flowers in May - and June on branches of a year old.

0:42:37 > 0:42:43- It's more common to prune them in - the summer after they have flowered.

0:42:45 > 0:42:50- There was very little new growth - on this shrub last year...

0:42:50 > 0:42:53- ..so it needs severe pruning.

0:42:53 > 0:42:59- It's best to do this in the winter - before the new growth in the spring.

0:43:01 > 0:43:04- If you have a similar shrub...

0:43:04 > 0:43:10- ..prune one in every three of the - old branches back to the main stem.

0:43:10 > 0:43:15- They are usually about - an inch and a half thick.

0:43:15 > 0:43:20- Do the same next winter and - complete it the following winter.

0:43:20 > 0:43:23- It opens up the shrub...

0:43:23 > 0:43:27- ..and the older branches - don't really flower.

0:43:28 > 0:43:32- This shrub is more complicated - due to its poor condition.

0:43:33 > 0:43:39- You can prune every branch - to just a foot above ground level...

0:43:39 > 0:43:44- ..but the shrub will not flower - again until next year...

0:43:45 > 0:43:48- ..so I'm going to make - a few compromises.

0:43:50 > 0:43:55- I need to remove - this horizontal branch...

0:43:55 > 0:43:59- ..but this year, - I'll only cut it back this point...

0:43:59 > 0:44:01- ..where there's a new stem.

0:44:09 > 0:44:13- I need to remove all - of this thick, old branch too...

0:44:13 > 0:44:15- ..but for the time being...

0:44:15 > 0:44:21- ..I'll only cut it back - to where there's a new stem.

0:44:34 > 0:44:38- These few bits of pruning - have helped the shape of the shrub.

0:44:38 > 0:44:42- It encourages new growth - from the base.

0:44:42 > 0:44:47- Keep these year-old branches...

0:44:48 > 0:44:50- ..as they will flower this year.

0:44:50 > 0:44:54- I'll shorten the taller branches - in the summer...

0:44:54 > 0:44:57- ..after they have flowered.

0:44:57 > 0:45:01- Let's get back - to the boring task...

0:45:02 > 0:45:05- ..of removing the roots - of the brambles.

0:45:20 > 0:45:21- Thank you, Ieuan.

0:45:21 > 0:45:23- That's all for this morning.

0:45:24 > 0:45:26- The hour has flown by!

0:45:26 > 0:45:30- We close the programme with - Beth Frazer singing Tanio y Fflam.

0:45:31 > 0:45:35- Enjoy the rest of your day - and good morning to you all.

0:45:35 > 0:45:38- # I walked down the street

0:45:39 > 0:45:41- # You passed in your car

0:45:41 > 0:45:43- # You weren't alone

0:45:43 > 0:45:45- # Picked up the phone

0:45:45 > 0:45:46- "Hello, are you OK?"

0:45:46 > 0:45:50- # The answer was, "Yes, thanks. - What are you doing tonight?"

0:45:51 > 0:45:52- # Acting stupid

0:45:52 > 0:45:57- # "Nothing, come over and - we'll have a little jam and chat"

0:45:57 > 0:45:59- # Who's the fool now?

0:46:05 > 0:46:08- # And you pull up

0:46:08 > 0:46:12- # Outside my house

0:46:13 > 0:46:17- # And knock on my door

0:46:17 > 0:46:20- # One, two, three

0:46:20 > 0:46:25- # And you expect the welcome

0:46:25 > 0:46:28- # You've always had

0:46:28 > 0:46:32- # But it's too late

0:46:32 > 0:46:34- # To ignite the flame

0:46:48 > 0:46:53- # I'm not as stupid as I look

0:46:56 > 0:47:02- # I saw you with her today

0:47:04 > 0:47:06- # And so

0:47:07 > 0:47:10- # Don't pull up

0:47:10 > 0:47:14- # Outside my house

0:47:15 > 0:47:19- # Or knock on my door

0:47:19 > 0:47:22- # One, two, three

0:47:22 > 0:47:27- # Don't expect the welcome

0:47:27 > 0:47:30- # You've always had

0:47:30 > 0:47:33- # It's too late

0:47:34 > 0:47:37- # To ignite the flame

0:47:39 > 0:47:42- # Ooh-ooh

0:47:42 > 0:47:45- # It's too late

0:47:45 > 0:47:48- # To ignite the flame #
