0:00:40 > 0:00:45potential volunteer Games Makers for the London 2012 games,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47how interesting.

0:00:55 > 0:00:59Hi, I'm Madeleine, I'm 62 and I'm a career transition consultant.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Hello, I'm Bernadette, I'm 59

0:01:01 > 0:01:04and I'm a retired trade union personnel manager.

0:01:04 > 0:01:10Hello, I'm Judy, I'm 62 years old and I'm a retired English teacher.

0:01:10 > 0:01:15Hello, I'm Judith, I'm 68 and I'm a retired economics teacher.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19Hello, I'm Ann, I'm 66 and I'm a retired teacher.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23- So, Madeleine and team, welcome. - ALL:- Thank you.- Good to see you.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26So you interviewed the people who became the Games Makers,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28- is that right? The Olympic Games? - That's right, yes.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Everybody had to go through a selection procedure

0:01:31 > 0:01:33and the final element of that was coming to an interview

0:01:33 > 0:01:36so the biggest selection centre was in London which was where

0:01:36 > 0:01:39we were all based and we used to meet up every Tuesday afternoon

0:01:39 > 0:01:42and meet some very interesting people from all over the world.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46And how did you choose the eventual, the winners of these jobs?

0:01:46 > 0:01:48That was out of our hands, I'm glad to say.

0:01:48 > 0:01:49We just had to do the interviewing.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52OK, so you asked some questions about what kind of thing

0:01:52 > 0:01:55- they were interested in, all that. - We had a whole series of questions

0:01:55 > 0:01:58that were the same for absolutely everybody, had to be asked in the

0:01:58 > 0:02:00same order in the same way and it was looking at their competencies

0:02:00 > 0:02:03in things like teamwork and customer service for example.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06OK, you became friends just by being in the same place during that?

0:02:06 > 0:02:09- Absolutely.- It was a magical time, wasn't it?- It was fantastic.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12And I must say as much as you helped choose the people who did it,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15- those Games Makers did a fantastic job.- Yeah.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18They were absolutely at the heart of it.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20- And we were Games Makers ourselves, all of us.- Right.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23At different locations in the Olympics and Paralympics.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26- All right, well, all the best to you. Good luck.- Thank you.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Hope you enjoy it, I'm sure you will.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30Every day there is £1,000 worth of cash up for grabs

0:02:30 > 0:02:33for our challengers however, if they fail to defeat the Eggheads

0:02:33 > 0:02:36the prize money rolls over to the next show.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39So, Olympic Legacy, the Eggheads have won the last two games

0:02:39 > 0:02:43which means £3,000 says you can't beat them today.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45- Get a nice lunch if you win that.- Yeah.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46More than one!

0:02:46 > 0:02:49The first head-to-head battle will be on the subject of Science.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55- You have to interview each other now.- Yes!

0:02:55 > 0:02:57- Oh, no, we don't. - I believe that's you.

0:02:57 > 0:03:03- I am the volunteer...- Ann, OK. - Or the one who is going to

0:03:03 > 0:03:07fall on the sword and be sacrificed.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11All right, so, Ann, you can choose any one of these five Eggheads here.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14- My colleagues will make the choice. - All right, what do we do?

0:03:14 > 0:03:18We're going to volunteer Ann to play Dave.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21OK, so, Ann from Olympic Legacy versus Dave,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23- Tremendous Knowledge Dave, we call him.- Absolutely.- I know.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25And to ensure there's no conferring,

0:03:25 > 0:03:29would you please take your positions in the Question Room?

0:03:29 > 0:03:31So, Ann, we're on Science, do you want to go first or second?

0:03:31 > 0:03:33I'd like to go first, please.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39Here we go with your first question, good luck.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41The name of which of these conditions

0:03:41 > 0:03:44comes from the Latin for "to ring"?

0:03:48 > 0:03:51I'm going to go straight for Tinnitus

0:03:51 > 0:03:53because that's ringing in the ear.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56In my book it's ringing in the ear.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58Let's hope your questionnaires are the same.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00Yeah, you got it.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02Tinnitus it is.

0:04:04 > 0:04:09Dave, a barophile is an organism that thrives under which conditions?

0:04:14 > 0:04:16Barophile. Don't think it's altitude.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18Erm, I don't think it's temperature.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22Going off barometer, I would go high pressure.

0:04:22 > 0:04:24High pressure is the right answer, well done.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27Back to you, Ann.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30TurboChamp was a program written by Alan Turing

0:04:30 > 0:04:34intended to enable a computer to play which game?

0:04:37 > 0:04:41Well, as they all say, I haven't got a clue.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44Turbo...I can't see anything there that's very charged

0:04:44 > 0:04:46so I'm going to do a Judith and go down the right.

0:04:46 > 0:04:47Backgammon.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49I'm afraid it's taken you in the wrong direction.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53- The answer is chess.- Oh, right. - Chess is the answer.

0:04:53 > 0:04:55Good old Mr Turing, eh?

0:04:55 > 0:04:56OK, Dave.

0:04:56 > 0:05:02What colour does uranium glass glow under an ultraviolet light?

0:05:05 > 0:05:08I don't really know. Erm...

0:05:08 > 0:05:10I'll go red, but, erm...

0:05:12 > 0:05:14Because I just associate uranium with red

0:05:14 > 0:05:16but I don't really know the answer.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18- You got it wrong, Dave.- Yep.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21- It's green.- OK.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23- So you're still equal, Ann, this is good.- Yeah.- This is good.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Better, isn't it?

0:05:25 > 0:05:28Get this one right and put some pressure on Tremendous Knowledge.

0:05:28 > 0:05:33In the 2010 BBC documentary How Science Changed Our World,

0:05:33 > 0:05:39who presented his top 10 scientific breakthroughs of the past 50 years?

0:05:44 > 0:05:45I've got two.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51And I'm not doing a Judith, I'm going to do a Brian Cox.

0:05:51 > 0:05:53- Judith, should she have done? - I don't know,

0:05:53 > 0:05:57I have a dreadful feeling this time she should've done.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00The thing about the Judith method as we call it,

0:06:00 > 0:06:03- is that it has to be applied constantly.- Oh, no.

0:06:03 > 0:06:06Because then it sometimes works.

0:06:06 > 0:06:09- Robert Winston is the right answer here.- I nearly did that. Thank you.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13- I would've guessed the same as you though.- Would you?- Oh, yes, I would.

0:06:13 > 0:06:14- Thank you.- Definitely.

0:06:14 > 0:06:19Dave, for the round, Alpheratz is the traditional name

0:06:19 > 0:06:22for the brightest star in which constellation?

0:06:27 > 0:06:29I'm not sure on this at all.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31Should've got my constellations sorted out.

0:06:31 > 0:06:35I'm going to avoid Perseus and Andromeda and go for Cassiopeia.

0:06:36 > 0:06:38- You've got this wrong as well.- Yep.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40Cassiopeia is wrong, it's Andromeda.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42OK.

0:06:42 > 0:06:44So one out of three for you both, we go to Sudden Death, Ann.

0:06:44 > 0:06:46For goodness' sake.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50- I don't know if you were expecting this, OK.- No, I wasn't.

0:06:50 > 0:06:52- So...- Hello.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55Here we go then, it's Sudden Death and it gets a bit harder

0:06:55 > 0:06:57- because I don't give you alternative answers.- Yep.

0:06:57 > 0:07:01Which chemical element at number 96 in the periodic table

0:07:01 > 0:07:03is named after a married couple?

0:07:04 > 0:07:07I played hangman at the back of chemistry lessons

0:07:07 > 0:07:12and you're asking me for a chemistry...chemical element.

0:07:12 > 0:07:15Number 96, after a married couple.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19Adamesseve.

0:07:21 > 0:07:23Adamesseve, brilliant.

0:07:23 > 0:07:26- Come on, somebody on your side has got this.- Curie?

0:07:26 > 0:07:29Yeah, Curie is the surname of the married couple.

0:07:29 > 0:07:36- Marie and Pierre. And the element, Eggs?- ALL:- Curium.- Curium.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39Dave, your question for the round.

0:07:39 > 0:07:43Which decimal number is written as 111 in binary?

0:07:43 > 0:07:45Should know this straight away.

0:07:46 > 0:07:51- I'll go what's on my mind anyway. Erm...111?- Yeah.

0:07:51 > 0:07:53I'll go seven.

0:07:53 > 0:07:54On the basis of what?

0:07:54 > 0:07:59Well, it's 1 with...the way I look at it, is 1...

0:07:59 > 0:08:03Binary system is based on 0 and 1, so 1 would be at the end,

0:08:03 > 0:08:08the second 1 would be for 2 and then the other 1 would be for 4.

0:08:08 > 0:08:10Yeah, and that's completely right.

0:08:10 > 0:08:12Well done, it's seven so you've taken the round on Science.

0:08:12 > 0:08:15- Sorry, Ann, you've been knocked out by our Eggheads.- Thank you.

0:08:15 > 0:08:17Dave will be in the final and you will not.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19Please, both of you, rejoin your teams.

0:08:22 > 0:08:26So as it stands, Olympic Legacy have lost a brain from the final round,

0:08:26 > 0:08:28the Eggheads have not lost any so far.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31The next subject is Politics.

0:08:31 > 0:08:33- Oh, that's me.- OK.

0:08:33 > 0:08:35Madeleine on Politics against which Egghead?

0:08:37 > 0:08:41- Go for it.- Can I play Chris, please?- Chris?- Yep.

0:08:41 > 0:08:44Madeleine from Olympic Legacy versus Chris from the Eggheads.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46Do, please, go to the Question Room now.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50OK, would you like to go first or second on Politics, Madeline?

0:08:50 > 0:08:52I'd like to go first, please, Jeremy.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58Here we go, Madeleine, good luck to you.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01Ehud Barak served as the prime minister of which country

0:09:01 > 0:09:04from 1999 to 2001?

0:09:08 > 0:09:13- Er, yes, just say the surname again, please, for me?- Barak is B-A-R-A-K.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16So Israel.

0:09:17 > 0:09:19Israel is the right answer, well done.

0:09:22 > 0:09:26Chris, which of these terms refers to the cultivated adulation

0:09:26 > 0:09:28of a political leader?

0:09:35 > 0:09:38Well, it's something we don't have much of on Eggheads.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41- It's the Cult of Personality.- Ooh!

0:09:41 > 0:09:44Interesting.

0:09:44 > 0:09:47What does that answer hint at?

0:09:47 > 0:09:50Cult of Personality is quite right.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52Madeleine, Nick Clegg represented

0:09:52 > 0:09:58which constituency at the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004?

0:10:04 > 0:10:06Now if you asked me which constituency he represents

0:10:06 > 0:10:09in Parliament now, I'd be fine.

0:10:09 > 0:10:11Er...this is a bit more difficult.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15I actually don't know the answer for this

0:10:15 > 0:10:17but I'm going to go for Hampshire West.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19Yeah, it's a tricky one this.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22I think Hampshire West one could rule out on the basis that it

0:10:22 > 0:10:26sounds more like a Westminster constituency and the...

0:10:26 > 0:10:29- Well, maybe not.- No.- You know, they usually do hold counties for Europe,

0:10:29 > 0:10:32- don't they?- Yes, there's regions. - No, regions.- Regions!

0:10:32 > 0:10:35- So Hampshire West would be a bit small, would it?- Yeah.- Yeah.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38What about Northumbria, could you go for that or is that defunct?

0:10:38 > 0:10:40- Think it's North-east. - Oh, again, too small.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43So you have to look for the biggest land area...

0:10:43 > 0:10:46- Right.- ..to get this answer and it's East Midlands.

0:10:48 > 0:10:53Chris, in 2013 which politician's campaign to improve the fitness

0:10:53 > 0:10:57of his country's children was aided by the actor Steven Seagal?

0:11:02 > 0:11:03There's a thought.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09Not likely to be Vladimir Putin.

0:11:10 > 0:11:14They'd probably have much the same problems with obesity and what

0:11:14 > 0:11:18have you as we do in Ireland so I better make it Enda Kelly.

0:11:18 > 0:11:22- Vladimir Putin is the answer, Chris. - Really?- Obviously brought him over.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24I think Putin may be the hard man.

0:11:24 > 0:11:28Ah, because Putin has got a bit of a thing about martial arts, hasn't he?

0:11:28 > 0:11:34- Yeah, Seagal a martial arts person? - Yeah, he was originally.- Was he?

0:11:34 > 0:11:37- Yeah.- Like Chuck Norris? - That sort of thing, yeah.

0:11:37 > 0:11:41So Vladimir Putin means a wrong answer from you, Chris.

0:11:41 > 0:11:42- Back to you, Madeline.- Yeah.

0:11:42 > 0:11:48Michel Debre and Maurice Couve de Murville both served

0:11:48 > 0:11:51as Prime Minister of France under which president?

0:11:56 > 0:11:58I'm trying to remember exactly

0:11:58 > 0:12:01when Couve de Murville was Prime Minister.

0:12:01 > 0:12:02Erm...

0:12:02 > 0:12:05It's either Pompidou or de Gaulle.

0:12:05 > 0:12:09I'm going to go for de Gaulle which was my first instinct.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12Excellent, you got it right. Well done, de Gaulle it is.

0:12:12 > 0:12:14So, Chris, under a bit pressure now.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16You have to get this one right, Chris.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19Stenbock House is the seat of the Government of which country?

0:12:22 > 0:12:25Well, it's not Finland because I've been to Helsinki

0:12:25 > 0:12:28and seen the Finnish Parliament building.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33Stenbock doesn't sound Polish either so...

0:12:36 > 0:12:37..it'll be Estonia.

0:12:39 > 0:12:42Yes, you're right. It is Estonia.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44So you're both equal after three questions

0:12:44 > 0:12:46and we go to Sudden Death again!

0:12:47 > 0:12:50- Madeleine...- Yeah.- ..I don't give you alternatives now.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54The Palazzo Montecitorio,

0:12:54 > 0:12:58which houses the Italian chamber of deputies, is in which city?

0:12:59 > 0:13:02Well, I think I'm going to go for the obvious answer

0:13:02 > 0:13:06and hope it's right and I'm not being totally deluded here and say Rome.

0:13:06 > 0:13:08Rome is right, well done.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Your question, Chris.

0:13:11 > 0:13:14Which company employed Bob Diamond when he was named the highest paid

0:13:14 > 0:13:18chief executive of any FTSE 100 company in 2011?

0:13:19 > 0:13:20Bob Diamond....

0:13:23 > 0:13:24Halliburton?

0:13:26 > 0:13:29Oh! What an interesting answer.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32- Halliburton?- Yeah, the US oil... - No, no, no,

0:13:32 > 0:13:35it's so interesting when, take nothing away from your

0:13:35 > 0:13:37brilliant knowledge but sometimes a gap appears

0:13:37 > 0:13:40and it's always fascinating to see where the gap is.

0:13:40 > 0:13:44It's Barclays. Chris, you are out, you're not in the final round.

0:13:44 > 0:13:47Well done, Madeleine.

0:13:47 > 0:13:50You are in the final where you'll be able to play for your team,

0:13:50 > 0:13:53both of you, please, come back here.

0:13:54 > 0:13:57So as it stands Olympic Legacy have pulled one back.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59Well done, Madeleine.

0:13:59 > 0:14:01They've lost a brain but the Eggheads have also lost a brain.

0:14:01 > 0:14:04Now the next subject for you is Sport. Is that bad?

0:14:05 > 0:14:08- Yes.- Ironic, Sport because...- I know, I know, we weren't doing the sport!

0:14:08 > 0:14:10What one of us is going to do it?

0:14:10 > 0:14:13That's going to be tricky because it clearly can't be either of us,

0:14:13 > 0:14:17- it's got to be one of you two guys, I'm very sorry.- Toss a coin?

0:14:17 > 0:14:21- Oh, I'll go.- You want to go?- Yes. - Judy's going to take it on.

0:14:21 > 0:14:25Judy against which Egghead? You can't play Dave or Chris.

0:14:25 > 0:14:29- Judith, please.- Predictable but...

0:14:29 > 0:14:32Judy from Olympic Legacy, Judith from the Eggheads,

0:14:32 > 0:14:34please go to the Question Room.

0:14:35 > 0:14:39- Judy, you've got a bit of a sporting history, I know.- Yes, I do.

0:14:39 > 0:14:42Go on, tell us about that. Don't be modest. Not allowed to be.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44Well, a long, long time ago,

0:14:44 > 0:14:48I played lacrosse for Great Britain but that was many years ago.

0:14:48 > 0:14:52I play some tennis now and I played some tennis in my youth.

0:14:52 > 0:14:54- And you were a county player?- I was.

0:14:54 > 0:14:58- Did you play tennis at any level, Judith?- Well, not at a level.

0:14:58 > 0:15:03I played tennis at school and I was tennis captain two years running.

0:15:03 > 0:15:06Oh, well, great. So we've got two tennis players.

0:15:06 > 0:15:10- I wasn't very good, though.- You could take each other on on court.- Later.

0:15:10 > 0:15:11I think she would beat me definitely.

0:15:11 > 0:15:15All right, but you're up against each other here and the subject is

0:15:15 > 0:15:18Sport and, Judy, you can tell us if you want to go first or second.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20I'll go first, thank you.

0:15:24 > 0:15:26Here we go, what is the surname of the champion golfer

0:15:26 > 0:15:28known by the nickname Double D?

0:15:33 > 0:15:37I have no idea. Erm...

0:15:37 > 0:15:39..but I'm thinking he must be an American.

0:15:41 > 0:15:44So I might go to Donald.

0:15:44 > 0:15:47Duval is the right answer, Judy, not Donald.

0:15:49 > 0:15:50OK, Judith, your question.

0:15:50 > 0:15:55Which Japanese city hosted the 1998 Winter Olympic Games?

0:15:59 > 0:16:02Well, I don't think it's Tokyo because...

0:16:02 > 0:16:05I think it might be Nagano.

0:16:06 > 0:16:12Nagano is correct, so you're ahead. Back to you, Judy.

0:16:12 > 0:16:15When was the tradition of tennis players bowing or curtseying

0:16:15 > 0:16:18to the Royal family on entering or leaving Centre Court

0:16:18 > 0:16:20at Wimbledon discontinued?

0:16:20 > 0:16:26The only exceptions being for the Queen or Prince Charles.

0:16:31 > 0:16:332003.

0:16:34 > 0:16:37You're right. 2003 is correct.

0:16:39 > 0:16:45OK, Judith, in 2009, Roberto Martinez became

0:16:45 > 0:16:50manager of Wigan Athletic, having previously managed which club?

0:16:54 > 0:16:59Roberto Martinez. I'm going to say Swansea City.

0:16:59 > 0:17:03- Dave will know this. - Yes, she's right, absolutely right.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06- Swansea City.- Swansea City is the right answer. Well done.

0:17:06 > 0:17:08- That was good luck.- I didn't even mention that it was football,

0:17:08 > 0:17:12- I assume you know the question was about football.- Yes, I did.

0:17:12 > 0:17:15OK, so she has two and you have one, Judy,

0:17:15 > 0:17:17which means you must get this one.

0:17:17 > 0:17:23The first Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix was held in 1985 in which city?

0:17:28 > 0:17:31I don't know again but I'll go for Brisbane.

0:17:31 > 0:17:33Anyone on the team know? Challengers?

0:17:33 > 0:17:38- I'd guessed at Adelaide.- Why so? - Because it's ringing a vague bell.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40- Because it's a guess! - Just a complete guess?

0:17:40 > 0:17:44Well, they're guessing the right answer here, Judy, it's Adelaide.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46So I'm sorry, you've been knocked out by Judith

0:17:46 > 0:17:49but that will give Judith a big confidence boost on Sport

0:17:49 > 0:17:53which is sorely needed, believe me, in this studio day after day.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55Judith, you're in the final round, well done.

0:17:55 > 0:17:56Judy, you've been knocked out,

0:17:56 > 0:18:00please, both of you, return to your teams.

0:18:00 > 0:18:01So as it stands,

0:18:01 > 0:18:04Olympic Legacy have lost two brains from the final round,

0:18:04 > 0:18:06the Eggheads have still just lost the one,

0:18:06 > 0:18:08and the next subject is Music.

0:18:09 > 0:18:11That's yours, that's you.

0:18:11 > 0:18:14- So that's going to have to be Judith. - Yes, I'm taking it.

0:18:14 > 0:18:19- The other Judith, OK.- The other Judith.- Who shall I have?

0:18:19 > 0:18:22- Kevin.- OK, Kevin.- All right, so...

0:18:22 > 0:18:25But Kevin knows everything so I don't know why I'm bothering.

0:18:25 > 0:18:28- Well, we've found out he has his moments.- Yeah, I do.

0:18:28 > 0:18:31- Judith versus Kevin...- Let's hope he doesn't have one now.- ..on Music.

0:18:31 > 0:18:33Please go to the Question Room.

0:18:34 > 0:18:38All right, so would you like to go first or second, Judith?

0:18:38 > 0:18:40Oh, I'll think I'll go first, Jeremy, thank you.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45"I may not always love you",

0:18:45 > 0:18:47are the opening words of which Beach Boys song?

0:18:53 > 0:18:54I...

0:18:55 > 0:18:57Oh...

0:18:57 > 0:19:02I think it might be God Only Knows, so I'll go for God Only Knows.

0:19:02 > 0:19:06- You're so right, well done. - Thank you.

0:19:08 > 0:19:13Kevin, who released the album Girl Who Got Away in March 2013?

0:19:17 > 0:19:19Did this one pass me by?

0:19:21 > 0:19:25Maybe it's slightly further back, but I...

0:19:25 > 0:19:29seem to remember Dido making a little bit of a comeback

0:19:29 > 0:19:32because she'd been away for a while.

0:19:34 > 0:19:37It could...I'm not sure on this at all, it could be...

0:19:38 > 0:19:42I'll go with Dido but not much confidence.

0:19:42 > 0:19:44I just seem to remember something about her making a comeback

0:19:44 > 0:19:47when she hadn't done an album for some years.

0:19:47 > 0:19:48Dido is correct, well done.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52Back to you, Judith.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55Tradition, Miracle of Miracles

0:19:55 > 0:19:59and Anatevka are songs from which musical?

0:20:04 > 0:20:06Well, I think the last one sort of gave it away

0:20:06 > 0:20:10and I think it's Fiddler on the Roof.

0:20:10 > 0:20:11It is Fiddler on the Roof, well done.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17Kevin, which of these men won an Oscar for his music

0:20:17 > 0:20:19for the film Yentl?

0:20:25 > 0:20:27Now, that I don't know.

0:20:28 > 0:20:30Who would've done the music for that?

0:20:32 > 0:20:35I can't really see it being Michel Legrand.

0:20:37 > 0:20:41I'll have to go for Elmer Bernstein but I have no idea.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44- Elmer Bernstein is wrong. - There you go.

0:20:44 > 0:20:46- Michel Legrand.- It was Michel Legrand? OK.

0:20:46 > 0:20:50It was indeed so you can knock Kevin out here, Judith,

0:20:50 > 0:20:52if you get this one right.

0:20:52 > 0:20:55Having sat here a number of times, I would suggest you do that

0:20:55 > 0:20:59because if you let him back in, he can be a monster.

0:20:59 > 0:21:03Here's your question, which British opera singer

0:21:03 > 0:21:07preformed at the wedding of Prince Andrew in 1986?

0:21:13 > 0:21:15I've really no idea. Erm...

0:21:15 > 0:21:20And I'm absolutely certain that Judy's sitting there knowing this.

0:21:20 > 0:21:22Erm...

0:21:22 > 0:21:26I'm just going to guess Gwyneth Jones.

0:21:26 > 0:21:27Judy?

0:21:27 > 0:21:32- Well, I was going to go for Gwyneth Jones too.- OK, Kevin, do you know?

0:21:32 > 0:21:35I think I might've gone for that myself.

0:21:35 > 0:21:37Felicity Lott is the answer.

0:21:38 > 0:21:42Felicity Lott is the answer, so Kevin has a way back in here.

0:21:42 > 0:21:45Kevin, which ballet scored by Aaron Copland

0:21:45 > 0:21:48features a famous hoedown section?

0:21:54 > 0:21:56All Copland ballets, of course.

0:21:57 > 0:22:00And I can't remember which one it comes from.

0:22:01 > 0:22:08I mean, obviously a hoedown being a communal dance...

0:22:10 > 0:22:14..small American communities, it could actually fit any of them.

0:22:14 > 0:22:17Let's say that they're having a gathering

0:22:17 > 0:22:22because it's the spring, spring has come so it's Appalachian Spring.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25I think Daphne will know this.

0:22:25 > 0:22:27I thought it was Rodeo

0:22:27 > 0:22:30- but it was only a guess.- Hmm.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33We don't often see Kevin only getting one out of three.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36That's what's happened, it's not Appalachian Spring,

0:22:36 > 0:22:38Daphne's right, "Ro-day-oh" or Rodeo...

0:22:38 > 0:22:42- Yeah, it could have been any.- ..is the answer so hey, Judith,

0:22:42 > 0:22:43well done.

0:22:45 > 0:22:50You swung your lasso and you've pulled Kevin off his horse,

0:22:50 > 0:22:52how about that? And you're in the final round.

0:22:52 > 0:22:55If you both come back to us, we will play that final round.

0:22:56 > 0:22:58So this is what we have been playing towards.

0:22:58 > 0:23:02It is time for the final round, which, as always, is General Knowledge

0:23:02 > 0:23:05but I'm afraid those of you who lost your head-to-heads

0:23:05 > 0:23:08won't be allowed to take part in this round so that's

0:23:08 > 0:23:13Judy and Ann from Olympic Legacy and Kevin and Chris from the Eggheads.

0:23:13 > 0:23:15Would you please leave the studio?

0:23:16 > 0:23:19So, Madeleine, Bernadette and Judith,

0:23:19 > 0:23:22you are playing to win Olympic Legacy £3,000.

0:23:22 > 0:23:24Judith, Dave and Daphne, you're playing for something

0:23:24 > 0:23:28that money can't buy, the Eggheads' reputation.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31As usual, I will ask each team three questions in turn,

0:23:31 > 0:23:33this time the questions are all General Knowledge

0:23:33 > 0:23:35and you are allowed to confer, OK?

0:23:35 > 0:23:37So the question is, can your three brains overwhelm

0:23:37 > 0:23:40the Eggheads' three over here in a truly Olympic way?

0:23:40 > 0:23:42- Unlikely.- Absolutely.- Unlikely!

0:23:42 > 0:23:44Would you like to go first or second?

0:23:44 > 0:23:46We'll go first, please, Jeremy.

0:23:48 > 0:23:52OK, Bernadette and team, good luck to you. Here we go, final round.

0:23:52 > 0:23:56Which of these words has been used as an informal term

0:23:56 > 0:23:59for an Australian or New Zealand soldier?

0:24:05 > 0:24:10- I don't know...- What do you think? - ..but I would lean towards Digger

0:24:10 > 0:24:12- which is...- I would think Digger...- Yes.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15..it's just an Australian term I've heard but I don't know.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17- Go with that, on the end.- Yeah.

0:24:17 > 0:24:22We're not certain, but we're leaning towards Digger, which is our answer.

0:24:22 > 0:24:24Digger is the right answer, well done.

0:24:24 > 0:24:27That's an important one to get right. OK, Eggheads,

0:24:27 > 0:24:30the first four children of which television celebrity

0:24:30 > 0:24:34are named Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo, Petal Blossom Rainbow

0:24:34 > 0:24:35and Buddy Bear Maurice?

0:24:39 > 0:24:42- I believe it's Jamie Oliver.- Jamie Oliver has a...- You certain?

0:24:42 > 0:24:45- ..Buddy, yeah.- It's Jamie Oliver, isn't it? Daisy Boo.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47That is Jamie Oliver.

0:24:47 > 0:24:49Jamie Oliver is correct.

0:24:51 > 0:24:54Back to you, ladies from the Olympic Legacy.

0:24:54 > 0:24:58In correspondence, to what does the Latin word "ultimo"

0:24:58 > 0:25:02sometimes abbreviated to "ult" refer?

0:25:06 > 0:25:10- It's Previous Month.- Yep, yep.- It's Previous Month.

0:25:10 > 0:25:11We laugh,

0:25:11 > 0:25:13we have a Latin speaker.

0:25:13 > 0:25:17Well, of sorts. It's Previous Month.

0:25:17 > 0:25:19Previous Month is correct.

0:25:21 > 0:25:23OK, Eggheads, the action of which

0:25:23 > 0:25:28play by Eugene O'Neill takes place over a few hours in August 1912?

0:25:35 > 0:25:40- It's Long Day's Journey Into Night. - OK.- Trust me?- Yep, I trust you.- Yeah.

0:25:40 > 0:25:41Yeah.

0:25:41 > 0:25:44It's Long Day's Journey Into Night.

0:25:45 > 0:25:48Long Day's Journey Into Night is the right answer.

0:25:49 > 0:25:51Well done, you Eggheads.

0:25:51 > 0:25:54OK, Olympic Legacy, this can often be the important question,

0:25:54 > 0:25:58the third question, keep your brains focused here,

0:25:58 > 0:26:01see if you can take them apart, I'm sure you can.

0:26:01 > 0:26:03What type of food is Dumpsie Dearie?

0:26:08 > 0:26:10- Can you spell that for us, Jeremy?- Yeah, two words.

0:26:10 > 0:26:12Dumpsie Dearie almost as you'd imagine.

0:26:12 > 0:26:16D-U-M-P-S-I-E and then D-E-A-R-I-E.

0:26:16 > 0:26:19- No.- I have no idea.

0:26:19 > 0:26:22But it sounds like a kind of comfort food.

0:26:22 > 0:26:26- Oh, I see so you're going for soup. - Like a soup, do you think?

0:26:26 > 0:26:28No, I'm thinking bread pudding.

0:26:28 > 0:26:31- You're thinking of bread pudding? - I have absolutely no idea.

0:26:31 > 0:26:35- Is that what you're thinking, a pudding?- Yes, Dumpsie Dearie.

0:26:35 > 0:26:38- Sounds like a suet something... - Yeah.- Served with custard.

0:26:38 > 0:26:42Yeah, maybe it's just a comfort food, I don't know, just a guess.

0:26:42 > 0:26:45Well, as you can probably tell,

0:26:45 > 0:26:48we don't know, but I'm thinking Dumpsie Dearie sounds

0:26:48 > 0:26:52something like a comfort food so I think we're going for bread pudding.

0:26:52 > 0:26:55My granny would've known this, she made quite a lot of it.

0:26:57 > 0:27:00- Fruit jam.- Oh. - No, never would've known this.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03Fruit jam is Dumpsie Dearie.

0:27:04 > 0:27:06- Never heard of that.- No.

0:27:06 > 0:27:09So, Eggheads, if you get this one right you have ended the contest.

0:27:09 > 0:27:13Which American architect is credited with designing the

0:27:13 > 0:27:16Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery in London?

0:27:18 > 0:27:19Yes.

0:27:23 > 0:27:27Yes, afraid we know this. Robert Venturi.

0:27:27 > 0:27:30- You're certain, are you?- Yes.

0:27:30 > 0:27:33When I was asking the question I could see your eyes light up,

0:27:33 > 0:27:36Daphne, which is always extremely frightening.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40Robert Venturi is the right answer

0:27:40 > 0:27:43so we say congratulations, Eggheads, you have won.

0:27:49 > 0:27:50Dumpsie Dearie.

0:27:50 > 0:27:53It's made, in case you ever want to make it...

0:27:53 > 0:27:57- Thank you.- ..windfall apples and plums.- Oh!

0:27:57 > 0:27:58I suppose that's the dumpsie bit.

0:27:58 > 0:28:01- Thank you for playing...- Thank you. - ..hope you've enjoyed it.

0:28:01 > 0:28:03- We've enjoyed it very much. - We have enjoyed it.

0:28:03 > 0:28:06The Eggheads are, they are good, even when they're down to three

0:28:06 > 0:28:08and you did brilliantly to reduce them that far.

0:28:08 > 0:28:10Commiserations though to Olympic Legacy

0:28:10 > 0:28:13so the Eggheads have done what comes naturally to them, beginning to

0:28:13 > 0:28:17build up a winning streak, reigning supreme over Quiz Land once more.

0:28:17 > 0:28:20I'm afraid it means you won't be going home with the £3,000

0:28:20 > 0:28:22so the money rolls over to our next show.

0:28:22 > 0:28:26Eggheads, congratulations, who will ever beat you?

0:28:26 > 0:28:30Join us next time to see if a new team of challengers have the brains

0:28:30 > 0:28:32to defeat the Eggheads.

0:28:32 > 0:28:35£4,000 says they don't. Until then, goodbye.
