0:03:36 > 0:03:41- On 25 April 2015, - Nepal was struck by an earthquake...

0:03:41 > 0:03:45- ..that measured 7.8 - on the Richter scale.

0:03:45 > 0:03:50- It was 80km north - of the capital city of Kathmandu.

0:03:50 > 0:03:55- It was the biggest natural disaster - to strike Nepal in 80 years.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58- The devastation - spread from Kathmandu...

0:03:58 > 0:04:02- ..to the foot of the world's - tallest mountain, Everest.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12- Some 18 months - since the earthquake...

0:04:13 > 0:04:17- ..it was interesting

0:04:20 > 0:04:25- During the earthquake, Base Camp - had the most press attention...

0:04:25 > 0:04:29- ..as 18 people were killed...

0:04:29 > 0:04:36- ..by an avalanche from the slopes - of Pumori which is to the north.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41- This is the moment when - the avalanche struck Base Camp.

0:04:41 > 0:04:48- It made 25 April 2015, the deadliest - day on the mountain in its history.

0:04:48 > 0:04:53- A Welshman from Llangyndeyrn - experienced that earthquake.

0:04:54 > 0:04:58- It was 2.00pm and we were - all having lunch in our tent...

0:04:58 > 0:05:02- ..when things started shaking.

0:05:02 > 0:05:07- At first, we thought it was - an avalanche so we went outside.

0:05:07 > 0:05:12- The Tibet Mountaineering Association - sent us down the mountain.

0:05:12 > 0:05:17- Four days later, we found out that - nobody else could climb Everest...

0:05:18 > 0:05:21- ..for the rest of the year.

0:05:21 > 0:05:26- I went to Kathmandu and - saw the disaster with my own eyes.

0:05:33 > 0:05:37- The disaster was much worse - away from the mountain.

0:05:37 > 0:05:42- Almost 9,000 were killed - and over 21,000 were injured.

0:05:44 > 0:05:49- People were at home having food or - spending time with their families.

0:05:49 > 0:05:54- Luckily, it struck on a Saturday - so the children weren't in school.

0:05:54 > 0:06:00- A lot of iconic buildings - were damaged and many in Kathmandu.

0:06:00 > 0:06:06- The important Kasthamandap building - once stood on this site.

0:06:07 > 0:06:13- The city of Kathmandu

0:06:13 > 0:06:18- People spent a lot of time here - but it wasn't a temple.

0:06:18 > 0:06:22- It was built - during the tenth century.

0:06:22 > 0:06:26- The earthquake didn't just - effect the people of Kathmandu...

0:06:26 > 0:06:30- ..because it effected - the Nepalese tourist industry too.

0:06:38 > 0:06:47- The earthquake struck - during the main tourist season.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51- A lot of people were killed.

0:06:51 > 0:06:58- As a result, a lot of people - left Kathmandu and went home.

0:06:58 > 0:07:06- They thought the paths had been - destroyed and hotels were damaged.

0:07:06 > 0:07:12- We had a poor autumn season too as - the news still reported the damage.

0:07:12 > 0:07:22- Tourists were made aware that the - treks were not badly damaged.

0:07:22 > 0:07:31- Hotels have been rebuilt - and are safe to visit.

0:07:31 > 0:07:37- Things are slowly returning - to how they once were.

0:07:39 > 0:07:46- The destruction on the journey along - the Khumbu Valley to Base Camp...

0:07:46 > 0:07:49- ..isn't that bad.

0:07:50 > 0:07:56- The worst hit areas were Kathmandu - and a valley to west of this point.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00- A lot of people are still homeless.

0:08:01 > 0:08:05- After the earthquake, - a lot of people came to Kathmandu.

0:08:05 > 0:08:09- They felt most of the support - would come through Kathmandu.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13- They built a temporary shelter...

0:08:13 > 0:08:18- ..and hundreds of thousands - of people are yet to return home.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22- They are still living in tents - around Kathmandu.

0:08:22 > 0:08:28- There's been a lot of repairs - to the paths that lead to Everest.

0:08:28 > 0:08:32- It's great to see the tourists - back on the paths...

0:08:32 > 0:08:36- ..to enjoy the country once again.

0:08:40 > 0:08:50- It looks like it was - an incredible experience for you.

0:08:55 > 0:09:04- You met a lot of people - who lived there.

0:09:05 > 0:09:15- We met a wonderful lady - called Jyoti Upadhuay.
