0:01:54 > 0:01:57- The swallows have migrated...

0:01:57 > 0:02:00- ..but thousands of birds - have arrived here for the winter.

0:02:01 > 0:02:06- I'm at Burton Mere Wetlands, - the RSPB reserve in the Dee Estuary.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15- It's a manmade reserve - built on farmland.

0:02:16 > 0:02:22- The RSPB created a reserve that is - excellent for all kinds of wildlife.

0:02:27 > 0:02:33- ..with a third, or the best part, - of the reserve sitting in Wales.

0:02:42 > 0:02:47- One of the great advantages - of such a large reserve...

0:02:47 > 0:02:52- ..is that you can get quite close to - the birds without disturbing them.

0:02:52 > 0:02:59- The wild duck is very prominent here - and I'm sure most will recognize it.

0:02:59 > 0:03:06- The drake is brightly coloured - whilst the duck is very plain.

0:03:07 > 0:03:14- The drake has to attract the duck - so needs to look attractive...

0:03:20 > 0:03:27- They nest on the ground so she has - to blend with the background.

0:03:51 > 0:03:58- There's also the tufted duck - with its black and white drake.

0:04:00 > 0:04:05- Birds are the main attraction - at the reserve this month...

0:04:05 > 0:04:09- ..but don't forget - about the flowers.

0:04:09 > 0:04:18- The red campion is very common - but also interesting.

0:04:18 > 0:04:23- This can flower from the start - of spring, through the summer...

0:04:23 > 0:04:27- ..and into the middle of winter.

0:04:27 > 0:04:32- It's flowering in a sheltered spot - with a lot of sunlight.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40- These are wild roses.

0:04:41 > 0:04:46- It's winter so doesn't have any - flowers but some red rosehips.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50- The red colour - attracts birds to eat them.

0:04:50 > 0:04:58- They digest the flesh but pass the - seeds far away from the main plant.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02- During World War II, - Mam collected the rosehips...

0:05:02 > 0:05:09- ..and made a drink that was full - of vitamin C as fruit was scarce.

0:05:12 > 0:05:18- Last month, I gave you - three leaves to recognize.

0:05:18 > 0:05:23- I hope you remember them as - I've got another two for this month.

0:05:23 > 0:05:27- We'll start with - the leaf of the beech.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31- The leaves are rounded - and a bright green.

0:05:31 > 0:05:34- The other one is over here.

0:05:35 > 0:05:40- This is a sycamore.

0:05:40 > 0:05:46- It's similar to the leaf - on the national flag of Canada.

0:05:46 > 0:05:52- It's a sycamore.

0:05:58 > 0:06:03- Many think November - is a bleak month...

0:06:03 > 0:06:09- ..but the Burton Mere Wetlands RSPB - Reserve disproves that theory.

0:06:09 > 0:06:15- There's plenty to see - so get off that sofa and go outside.
