0:20:32 > 0:20:37- He was a stowaway - aboard the Endurance.

0:20:38 > 0:20:42- The boy was discovered - hiding on the boat.

0:20:42 > 0:20:46- Shackleton was furious.

0:20:46 > 0:20:49- He was so angry with Blackborow - that he said...

0:20:49 > 0:20:55- .."if we run out of food, then - you're the first one we'll eat!"

0:20:58 > 0:21:03- ..and Blackborow became - an important part of the crew.

0:21:03 > 0:21:09- The Endurance got stuck in ice - in January 1915.

0:21:09 > 0:21:14- In November, the ship sank...

0:21:14 > 0:21:17- ..with the 26-strong crew - having to survive on the ice.

0:21:18 > 0:21:21- In April 1916, when the ice broke, - lifeboats were launched.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24- When they arrived Elephant Island...

0:21:24 > 0:21:27- ..Perce Blackborow - suffered from frostbite.

0:21:27 > 0:21:31- My grandfather was - the first man on Elephant Island.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34- He was given the privilege - by Shackleton.

0:21:34 > 0:21:38- He was in a state with his feet - and they had to cut his toes off.

0:21:38 > 0:21:42- It was done with the last drop - of chlorophorm they had...

0:22:30 > 0:22:36- Eventually, my grandfather made it - home after a stay in hospital.

0:22:36 > 0:22:38- He thought very highly of Shakleton.

0:22:38 > 0:22:42- If it wasn't for Shakleton, that was - the one man who saved them all.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45- Nobody died.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48- He was a great man.

0:22:49 > 0:22:51- Shakleton returned to the Antarctic.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54- It's quite apt that it was - his final resting place...

0:22:55 > 0:22:58- ..after he suffered a heart attack - on South Georgia in 1922.

0:23:00 > 0:23:04- He's buried in the cemetery - at St Gwynllyw's Church in Newport.
