0:03:14 > 0:03:19- He was in the Battle of Mametz Wood - - the bloodiest battle of the Somme.

0:03:21 > 0:03:26- He doesn't state the cause of his - injury but I think it was shrapnel.

0:03:29 > 0:03:34- A bullet wound is clean but his nose - and top lip were torn off his body.

0:03:38 > 0:03:43- Death would have been better - than for him to go home like that.

0:03:52 > 0:03:56- "I tried to bandage my face with - the First Aid kit from my pocket.

0:04:06 > 0:04:11- "It was getting dark and a stretcher - came along and picked me up.

0:04:47 > 0:04:52- He had a dentist chair in his Rolls - Royce and did pioneering surgery.

0:04:53 > 0:04:58- Ellis was one of the first - twelve people to have this surgery.

0:05:00 > 0:05:04- They removed a rib - and used it to form a new nose.
