0:24:17 > 0:24:21- He told me that his father - was in Block 11 in Auschwitz.

0:24:22 > 0:24:27- From my research, I'd learnt that - Block 11 was the death block...

0:24:28 > 0:24:33- ..or the waiting room - for the gas chamber.

0:24:33 > 0:24:38- Within seconds, I was chatting - with him and his father, Sam Hersly.

0:24:42 > 0:24:48- I started holding interviews - in a hotel in March 2003.

0:24:52 > 0:24:58- Some 29 survivors were willing - to share their stories with you...

0:25:45 > 0:25:53- I also encountered people who - had been saved by Oskar Schindler.

0:25:54 > 0:26:02- Nobody had told the story of those - who were hiding or the partisans.

0:26:02 > 0:26:06- It hadn't crossed my mind - to do something theatrical.

0:26:07 > 0:26:13- I felt it could be a programme - or a mini-series about the camps...

0:26:13 > 0:26:17- ..and there was a lot of information - about Oskar Schindler...

0:26:18 > 0:26:23- ..and some of it features - in the documentary.

0:26:23 > 0:26:27- I think there's about 50 hours - just about Oskar Schindler.

0:26:27 > 0:26:31- You travelled with the survivors - to Treblinka.

0:26:32 > 0:26:36- I'm sure that was very difficult.

0:26:36 > 0:26:40- Yes, and you had people such as Ed - Mosberg who went back to Auschwitz.

0:26:40 > 0:26:44- He went to gas chamber number 5 - at Birkenau...

0:26:44 > 0:26:48- ..because he knew that his family - had all been killed there.

0:26:48 > 0:26:53- We went in 2003 and 2004 - and kept going back.
