0:05:31 > 0:05:35I was really keen to try and broaden the appeal of the Irish language, to make it fun
0:05:35 > 0:05:40so everybody can enjoy it. And hence Liofa 2015.
0:05:40 > 0:05:43My understanding is that not only are people signed up,
0:05:43 > 0:05:45they've actually started going to Irish classes.
0:05:48 > 0:05:51I have signed up to Liofa. I'm at three classes of weeks.
0:05:53 > 0:05:57I am serious about trying to become Liofa. I think it's really important.
0:07:22 > 0:07:25It's important because we want to engage with people at all levels
0:07:25 > 0:07:28and use every possible medium of engagement.
0:07:28 > 0:07:31And there are many, many people throughout this island
0:07:31 > 0:07:33that speak Irish naturally.
0:07:33 > 0:07:37And it's important that we can engage with people at that level.
0:07:37 > 0:07:41But I think it's also important to understand we have a real interest in this organisation
0:07:41 > 0:07:45in the Irish language and we want to nurture and support that too.
0:07:45 > 0:07:47We have over 200 people, both police officers and staff,
0:07:47 > 0:07:51who have already indicated their willingness to sign up to Liofa.
0:07:51 > 0:07:54And I think that's a very positive development.
0:08:03 > 0:08:07I understand people's concern around a lack of investment in the Irish language.
0:08:07 > 0:08:10If that's what their main criticisms are, then that's fair enough.
0:08:10 > 0:08:14But Liofa isn't about substituting
0:08:14 > 0:08:17any commitment for an act or even for strategies.
0:08:17 > 0:08:20Far from it. It's in addition to, rather than instead of.
