0:29:42 > 0:29:46- Now is the time to prepare - for a summer display.

0:29:48 > 0:29:51- I'm going to sow - some sweet pea seeds.

0:29:52 > 0:29:58- It's possible to sow the seeds - outdoors during April and May.

0:29:58 > 0:30:03- These flowers will bloom - in late summer and early autumn.

0:30:03 > 0:30:07- Seeds planted indoors in February - and transferred outdoors in May...

0:30:07 > 0:30:14- ..will bloom earlier, - from June onwards.

0:30:16 > 0:30:22- The roots grow downwards quickly - so it's worth using deeper pots.

0:30:23 > 0:30:27- Alternatively, you can use - cardboard toilet roll tubes...

0:30:27 > 0:30:33- ..or kitchen roll sliced in half.

0:30:35 > 0:30:42- Seal one side with scrunched paper - and fill the tube with some compost.

0:30:48 > 0:30:56- The outer shell of sweet peas - is tough and water resistant.

0:30:56 > 0:31:03- You have to taint the shell - by filing one side of it.

0:31:11 > 0:31:15- The eye is positioned - where the root appears.

0:31:45 > 0:31:54- The soft ones can be sown instantly.

0:32:27 > 0:32:34- Everyone's aware of the current - shortage of lettuce in shops...

0:32:34 > 0:32:39- ..and their extortionate prices.

0:32:39 > 0:32:43- Wait until late next month - to sow most varieties...

0:32:43 > 0:32:50- ..but some lettuces can be - sown indoors during winter.

0:32:50 > 0:32:54- You can plant the seeds - in a compost tray.

0:32:54 > 0:32:59- I prefer to use a container - with individual cells.

0:32:59 > 0:33:03- Sow three to four seeds - in each cell.

0:33:03 > 0:33:10- Prune them and leave one plant, or - the strongest, to continue growing.

0:33:10 > 0:33:15- Therefore, it's easier to transfer - them without damaging their roots.

0:33:15 > 0:33:25- Transfer them to four inch-wide pots - and leave to mature indoors.

0:33:25 > 0:33:29- You'll have lettuce to eat - in late April and early May...
