0:00:02 > 0:00:04Fighting robots represent probably one of the biggest challenges
0:00:04 > 0:00:07in engineering because there is no perfect design.
0:00:12 > 0:00:1540 robot fighting teams are about to take on one
0:00:15 > 0:00:19of the most intense engineering challenges in the world.
0:00:19 > 0:00:22Advice I'd give to roboteers entering the arena is don't panic
0:00:22 > 0:00:24and try not to die.
0:00:27 > 0:00:31To design, build and battle heavyweight fighting robots
0:00:31 > 0:00:33to compete for the ultimate prize.
0:00:39 > 0:00:42Through chaotic group battles and fierce head-to-heads,
0:00:42 > 0:00:44new and veteran teams of robot engineers
0:00:44 > 0:00:49must push their reinforced war machines to the limits.
0:00:49 > 0:00:52Their robots are harder, faster, stronger,
0:00:52 > 0:00:57designed for one thing - total destruction in pursuit of victory.
0:01:02 > 0:01:06This is Robot Wars, where metal goliaths meet rubber jellyfish,
0:01:06 > 0:01:09and brains really are mightier than brawn.
0:01:11 > 0:01:14There are teams of all ages from across the country and beyond,
0:01:14 > 0:01:18who bring their handcrafted robots here to fight,
0:01:18 > 0:01:20from those outlandish designs
0:01:20 > 0:01:24to robots too dangerous to turn on outside of our bulletproof arena.
0:01:28 > 0:01:32Last week, Eruption flipped the competition time after time
0:01:32 > 0:01:34to earn their place in the grand final alongside
0:01:34 > 0:01:38the brutally powerful Aftershock.
0:01:38 > 0:01:42Tonight, eight more robots compete for their chance at the title.
0:01:42 > 0:01:44We start with two group battles.
0:01:44 > 0:01:48The top four robots from this stage go through to a mini league,
0:01:48 > 0:01:50fighting each other once for points,
0:01:50 > 0:01:53with the top two battling it out at the end of the show.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55Only one can go through to
0:01:55 > 0:01:56the grand final.
0:01:56 > 0:01:59The robots in our first group battle are...
0:02:08 > 0:02:11Last series, Jason excelled with the axe.
0:02:11 > 0:02:15But one too many brushes with spinners zombified Thor
0:02:15 > 0:02:18before the end of the competition. For this series,
0:02:18 > 0:02:22he's back with a fresh design and plans to be even more powerful.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26Your axe looks bigger.
0:02:26 > 0:02:29Well, the axe is the same size, but the machine itself is smaller.
0:02:29 > 0:02:32OK, and what about tactically, what is the plan?
0:02:32 > 0:02:35I'm just going to wait for a minute and let them all do their thing
0:02:35 > 0:02:37and then I'm going to pick on one of them that's not expecting it.
0:02:37 > 0:02:39Are the hazards part of your plan
0:02:39 > 0:02:40or are you just going to go straight in?
0:02:40 > 0:02:43I like the idea of the rogue robot, I really do, I think that's great.
0:02:43 > 0:02:46Yeah, I think I might press that button and see what we get.
0:02:46 > 0:02:49OK. Please give it up for Thor. Good luck.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59Tauron is packing a 20kg vertical spinning bar.
0:02:59 > 0:03:03It is the team's robot building debut and they tell us
0:03:03 > 0:03:05it has only taken them ten years to get around to it.
0:03:05 > 0:03:07Let's hope it is worth it.
0:03:08 > 0:03:12Have you tried a smaller weight class? Have you attempted anything?
0:03:12 > 0:03:14- You've just gone straight in at this level.- Of course not.
0:03:14 > 0:03:17Yeah, never built a robot before, start in the deep end.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20- There you go.- And your day job, you test video games.- I do.
0:03:20 > 0:03:23So you're presumably, your thumb control will be pretty good.
0:03:23 > 0:03:24Oh, yeah, I'm a bit of a gamer,
0:03:24 > 0:03:26so I've certainly got a lot of experience,
0:03:26 > 0:03:28like controlling sticks with my thumbs, and, yeah,
0:03:28 > 0:03:30we will see what happens. We are just going to see.
0:03:35 > 0:03:39Last year, MR Speed Squared destroyed Chimera I,
0:03:39 > 0:03:41taking out its unprotected car tyres.
0:03:41 > 0:03:43This time the team have a new design,
0:03:43 > 0:03:46complete with the defensive wedge for spinners,
0:03:46 > 0:03:50upgraded drive, and of course improved wheels.
0:03:51 > 0:03:53Now, weaponry, let's talk about that.
0:03:53 > 0:03:57Yeah, we've got the great big Hardox claw on the back.
0:03:57 > 0:03:58Idea is we go and ram them,
0:03:58 > 0:04:00that thing is going to come over with some force
0:04:00 > 0:04:01and hopefully go through it.
0:04:01 > 0:04:04Is there anything that may go against you?
0:04:04 > 0:04:06Just being untested in battle, I think that is biggest thing.
0:04:06 > 0:04:09This year, it is our own custom-made, two-stage drive system,
0:04:09 > 0:04:11which in a battle is a bit untested.
0:04:11 > 0:04:14Good luck. Give it up for Chimera. You especially.
0:04:14 > 0:04:16- APPLAUSE - I like the signage.
0:04:21 > 0:04:24Last series, the Concussion team were on the other side of
0:04:24 > 0:04:26the bulletproof glass cheering others on.
0:04:26 > 0:04:30Now, as competitors, this group of engineers have opted to
0:04:30 > 0:04:33sacrifice armour to add weight to their powerful drum.
0:04:33 > 0:04:37Still untested in battle, this could be a rude awakening.
0:04:38 > 0:04:42Now, Concussion is your first appearance here. What does it do?
0:04:42 > 0:04:45It spins the front drum at about 6,000 rpm.
0:04:45 > 0:04:47It should give them a nasty lick
0:04:47 > 0:04:49and hit them out of the arena - hopefully.
0:04:49 > 0:04:51Are you confident, by the way? Your first time here.
0:04:51 > 0:04:54Yeah, I mean, we've never done any fight anywhere,
0:04:54 > 0:04:55so complete rookies.
0:04:55 > 0:04:58- So this is the first-ever fight? - Ever.
0:04:58 > 0:05:00Apart from a big piece of oak, but, yes.
0:05:00 > 0:05:03OK. Oh, you took out a tree. Congratulations.
0:05:03 > 0:05:04The best of luck.
0:05:04 > 0:05:07Ladies and gentlemen, Concussion.
0:05:07 > 0:05:08APPLAUSE
0:05:08 > 0:05:12Our teams head to the arena for this all-important group battle.
0:05:12 > 0:05:17Taking us through each destructive detail, it's Jonathan Pearce.
0:05:17 > 0:05:18Thanks, Dara and Angela.
0:05:18 > 0:05:21Each battle tonight will take place over three minutes
0:05:21 > 0:05:23unless competitors are immobilised or flipped out of the arena
0:05:23 > 0:05:25or are pushed down the pit of doom.
0:05:25 > 0:05:28The arena also contains four deadly hazards and the House Robots
0:05:28 > 0:05:31who are no longer forced to reside in their corner patrol zones,
0:05:31 > 0:05:34but they're freed by the competitors pressing the arena button.
0:05:34 > 0:05:37The Doom Dial decides at random to open the pit
0:05:37 > 0:05:39or activate the rogue House Robot.
0:05:39 > 0:05:42They can travel anywhere in the arena
0:05:42 > 0:05:44to dish out damage on unwitting competitors.
0:05:44 > 0:05:47Our judges, Professor Noel Sharkey, Dr Lucy Rogers
0:05:47 > 0:05:48and Professor Sethu Vijayakumar,
0:05:48 > 0:05:51are here to adjudicate if there is no clear winner at
0:05:51 > 0:05:52the end of three minutes,
0:05:52 > 0:05:55marking robots on their control, damage and aggression.
0:05:55 > 0:05:59The teams are warming up in the arena.
0:05:59 > 0:06:02From Northampton - Thor.
0:06:02 > 0:06:05Thor's axe goes from 0-90mph in less than a second
0:06:05 > 0:06:07and inflicts one and a quarter tonnes of force on its victims.
0:06:07 > 0:06:09Builder Jason has designed this version of Thor
0:06:09 > 0:06:13to be lower and flatter to get underneath its enemies.
0:06:13 > 0:06:17From Bedfordshire - Tauron.
0:06:17 > 0:06:20Father and son Tom and Tim built Tuaron in the garage.
0:06:20 > 0:06:23For their first-ever robot they've got some impressive statistics.
0:06:23 > 0:06:27The 20 kilo horizontal spinning bar spins at 3,000 rpm
0:06:27 > 0:06:30and has a top speed of 10 metres per second.
0:06:30 > 0:06:34From Bolton - Chimera 2.
0:06:34 > 0:06:37Chimera 2 has a hardened steel wedge and a new drive,
0:06:37 > 0:06:39which has doubled the top speed to 10mph.
0:06:39 > 0:06:42Last year, the team had car tyres for wheels, it was a mistake,
0:06:42 > 0:06:45this time they have high density polythene wheels
0:06:45 > 0:06:47designed to flex when hit.
0:06:47 > 0:06:50From Wool - Concussion.
0:06:50 > 0:06:53Concussion has a 6,000 rpm spinning drum
0:06:53 > 0:06:57with a top speed of 137mph and is made from carbon steel.
0:06:57 > 0:07:00It also boasts a custom wiring system, laser cut components,
0:07:00 > 0:07:04polycarbonate armoured panels and rather fetching LED under lighting.
0:07:04 > 0:07:07That's the teams, here's the House Robot. He'll come down on you
0:07:07 > 0:07:10like a tonne of titanium tipped bricks. It's Shunt.
0:07:13 > 0:07:16Roboteers, standby.
0:07:26 > 0:07:31Three, two, one, activate.
0:07:31 > 0:07:33Here we go.
0:07:33 > 0:07:35Look at the spinning drum of Concussion.
0:07:35 > 0:07:37That is Thor with that mighty axe.
0:07:37 > 0:07:39A little bit of a bash there.
0:07:39 > 0:07:41And what is Tauron doing?
0:07:41 > 0:07:44Hello, Tauron! What are you doing?
0:07:44 > 0:07:46Not a lot.
0:07:46 > 0:07:50Chimera 2 have got themselves caught on the floor spikes.
0:07:50 > 0:07:53- That's it.- Keep going. Keep going.
0:07:53 > 0:07:57Tentative battle, this, but it is intriguing nonetheless.
0:07:57 > 0:08:00These are good-looking competitors and they're driving sensibly.
0:08:00 > 0:08:03And he's attacking Chimera 2 there, Thor.
0:08:03 > 0:08:05That's interesting that he has gone after Chimera 2.
0:08:06 > 0:08:09Jason obviously thinks he's the strongest opponent
0:08:09 > 0:08:11and needs to get him out of the way.
0:08:11 > 0:08:13Don't do it, don't do it.
0:08:13 > 0:08:17Fully invertible, Concussion, can run both sides up.
0:08:17 > 0:08:21Thor in there again. Chimera 2 with a piggyback.
0:08:21 > 0:08:23Concussion seems damaged, but still mobile.
0:08:23 > 0:08:26Looks like Chimera 2 is in trouble.
0:08:26 > 0:08:29Now Thor goes in on Concussion.
0:08:29 > 0:08:31Chimera 2 has gone.
0:08:31 > 0:08:34Concussion is moving, but only on one wheel.
0:08:34 > 0:08:37I think Jason here is just trying to drive Thor in,
0:08:37 > 0:08:40trying to get used to the controls on the modified robot.
0:08:40 > 0:08:43Taruon! What happened to you, Tom and Tim?
0:08:43 > 0:08:46Oh, deary, deary me.
0:08:46 > 0:08:49Chimera 2 are out and not happy.
0:08:52 > 0:08:57Well, there's Thor angling for the attack.
0:08:57 > 0:08:59Concussion dodging away from Chimera 2.
0:08:59 > 0:09:03They got themselves on the spikes.
0:09:03 > 0:09:05Testing first battle for our robot.
0:09:05 > 0:09:07Thor and Concussion through.
0:09:08 > 0:09:11OK, Thor, I thought we were going to have to go in
0:09:11 > 0:09:13and resuscitate you for a moment. What happened?
0:09:13 > 0:09:16The driver is a little bit sluggish, it's very cold,
0:09:16 > 0:09:18so I'm just wondering if the chemistry in the battery is not very
0:09:18 > 0:09:20- happy because of the temperature. - OK.
0:09:20 > 0:09:23So, we'll try and... I'll put them down me trousers or something.
0:09:23 > 0:09:25Give it up, please, for Thor.
0:09:25 > 0:09:28Good luck in the head-to-head.
0:09:28 > 0:09:31Concussion, you were right in the middle of a lot of scraps,
0:09:31 > 0:09:34and you put Chimera out.
0:09:34 > 0:09:37- That was our plan.- We just went all out with the weapons,
0:09:37 > 0:09:38we knew that was our strongest point,
0:09:38 > 0:09:41so we just wanted to show what it can do in the first round.
0:09:41 > 0:09:43Fantastic. And now a series of head-to-heads.
0:09:43 > 0:09:46- Yeah.- Congratulations to Concussion. - Thank you.
0:09:48 > 0:09:52Concussion and Thor return victorious to the pits.
0:09:52 > 0:09:56For Jason, new Thor has left him with cause for concern.
0:09:56 > 0:09:59It was not driving right,
0:09:59 > 0:10:01so I need to work out what's going on.
0:10:01 > 0:10:03I think I've got a battery issue.
0:10:03 > 0:10:06It's a different story for Concussion who are amazed at
0:10:06 > 0:10:09the debut performance of their robot.
0:10:09 > 0:10:14But the team are learning that the stresses experienced in battle
0:10:14 > 0:10:15are in a different league to
0:10:15 > 0:10:18the tests they performed before the competition.
0:10:18 > 0:10:21One of the windings has burnt out on one of the drive motors.
0:10:21 > 0:10:23We've never pushed him quite that hard.
0:10:23 > 0:10:25We've thrown him about in a car park
0:10:25 > 0:10:28and pulled a car or two, you know,
0:10:28 > 0:10:31never against everyone else trying to rally against you.
0:10:31 > 0:10:35The four robots in our second group battle are...
0:10:44 > 0:10:46From Brentwood in Essex,
0:10:46 > 0:10:49this brand-new robot has been built by a team of students.
0:10:49 > 0:10:52They have developed an experimental retracting spinner
0:10:52 > 0:10:56the likes of which we've never seen before on Robot Wars.
0:10:58 > 0:11:00This is a project you've done for school, isn't it?
0:11:00 > 0:11:02Yeah, so it's an engineering project, we wanted to test
0:11:02 > 0:11:04our skills and see what we could create.
0:11:04 > 0:11:06It does a thing that other robots aren't doing.
0:11:06 > 0:11:08Yes, so before we get up to speed, our blades are contracted
0:11:08 > 0:11:11and then we get up to 400 rpm, the blades come out.
0:11:11 > 0:11:13Show me the way in which the blades contract.
0:11:13 > 0:11:15Look at this beautiful model.
0:11:15 > 0:11:18Look at that. That is fearsome.
0:11:18 > 0:11:21Obviously it will go the other way cos otherwise things will slide off.
0:11:21 > 0:11:23You have a little smooth part, is that going to do anything?
0:11:23 > 0:11:26So we have teeth on our actual metal weapons,
0:11:26 > 0:11:28so they will slice and hopefully grind at the other robots
0:11:28 > 0:11:30or we can stab them with the point.
0:11:30 > 0:11:32Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Expulsion.
0:11:32 > 0:11:34APPLAUSE
0:11:39 > 0:11:41Heavy Metal also has some unique weaponry,
0:11:41 > 0:11:45including a 360 degree rotating arm.
0:11:45 > 0:11:48However, despite having various weapons at their disposal
0:11:48 > 0:11:52the team's main concern are their huge wheels.
0:11:53 > 0:11:56- What have we got with the armour? - The armour is called Raex steel.
0:11:56 > 0:12:00It's not very thick, but we'll just take our chances.
0:12:00 > 0:12:02Usually alarm bells when there's exposed tyres,
0:12:02 > 0:12:05- but there's no rubber, as such, on these tyres.- No.
0:12:05 > 0:12:08They should provide plenty of grip. They are replaceable as well.
0:12:08 > 0:12:10- Do you have spares of these?- No.
0:12:10 > 0:12:12LAUGHTER
0:12:18 > 0:12:22Also known as Mr Speed Squared, the robot has evolved from last series.
0:12:22 > 0:12:25This family team hope their robot's giant spinning ring
0:12:25 > 0:12:27can dish out the damage.
0:12:27 > 0:12:31There is also a lot riding on this performance for team captain Pete.
0:12:34 > 0:12:36What's this, by the way, about you would propose to your
0:12:36 > 0:12:39long-term girlfriend if you DON'T WIN Robot Wars?
0:12:39 > 0:12:41If we don't win Robot Wars, yeah,
0:12:41 > 0:12:43I'm afraid I'm going to have to marry her, actually. Ellie.
0:12:43 > 0:12:46- OK. But what happens if you do win Robot Wars?- I'm off the hook.
0:12:46 > 0:12:49- What?- That's why I have been working so hard on it.
0:12:49 > 0:12:52- Is she here?- She'll be in the audience, yes.- OK, grand.
0:12:52 > 0:12:57So she'll be cheering against you in hoping that you finally commit.
0:12:57 > 0:12:59Yes, which I should do cos she's a great girl.
0:13:04 > 0:13:06Craig Danby returns with Foxic.
0:13:06 > 0:13:10Redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up, it may look cute,
0:13:10 > 0:13:14but we've been promised it can cause some serious damage.
0:13:17 > 0:13:20- Your fox is a little fiercer this time.- It is.
0:13:20 > 0:13:22Well, a lot of people have these bits underneath the robot
0:13:22 > 0:13:24that kind of hang down,
0:13:24 > 0:13:26so I am hoping I can get underneath somebody,
0:13:26 > 0:13:29hook onto them, drag them around the arena, open the pit,
0:13:29 > 0:13:31drag them into the House Robots, set them on fire.
0:13:31 > 0:13:34Right, that sounds like kind of dirty tactics.
0:13:34 > 0:13:37- Look, this is a war.- This is war. Give it up, please, for Foxic.
0:13:37 > 0:13:39- APPLAUSE - Good luck.
0:13:41 > 0:13:44Time then to see what they're made of.
0:13:44 > 0:13:45Go easy on them, Jonathan.
0:13:45 > 0:13:47Where is the fun in that?
0:13:47 > 0:13:50Four new robots, two places left in the head-to-heads left.
0:13:50 > 0:13:53The roboteers are arming up in the arena.
0:13:53 > 0:13:56From Staffordshire - Foxic.
0:13:56 > 0:13:58Foxic's wedged-shaped head is made of hardened steel,
0:13:58 > 0:14:00it can lift 300 kilos.
0:14:00 > 0:14:02Foxic is quick with a top speed of 22mph,
0:14:02 > 0:14:05for super pushing power.
0:14:05 > 0:14:08From Essex - Expulsion.
0:14:08 > 0:14:11Expulsion has a 5mm spinning disc
0:14:11 > 0:14:13which has 10mm spikes hidden inside.
0:14:13 > 0:14:15The team of students say the biggest weakness is
0:14:15 > 0:14:17Expulsion's lack of self-righter.
0:14:17 > 0:14:20From Leicestershire - Heavy Metal.
0:14:20 > 0:14:23The Denny family have produced a robot with
0:14:23 > 0:14:25a 360 degree rotating weapon arm.
0:14:25 > 0:14:28The team say their robot has unique weaponry which can be swapped
0:14:28 > 0:14:32in seconds, their arsenal including a spinner and a large drill.
0:14:32 > 0:14:35From Worcestershire - MR Speed Squared.
0:14:35 > 0:14:38Last series, this family team was plagued with technical problems.
0:14:38 > 0:14:41This series, their unique rim spinner has a radius of over a metre
0:14:41 > 0:14:44and weighs a huge 35 kilos.
0:14:44 > 0:14:46When team captain Peter isn't building robots,
0:14:46 > 0:14:48he is a consultant cardiologist.
0:14:48 > 0:14:51Have to have a hobby, I suppose.
0:14:51 > 0:14:55In the corner patrol zone, recently awarded the World's Angriest Robot
0:14:55 > 0:15:01by the readers of Giant Angry Robot magazine - it's Sir Killalot.
0:15:01 > 0:15:05Roboteers, standby.
0:15:11 > 0:15:16Three, two, one, activate.
0:15:16 > 0:15:19Watch for the driving skills of Foxic here.
0:15:19 > 0:15:21Down goes the arena release button,
0:15:21 > 0:15:25which sends the pit of doom down and then Foxic drives in
0:15:25 > 0:15:27and underneath on a good attack.
0:15:27 > 0:15:30MR Speed Squared - it is a more powerful machine this time around.
0:15:30 > 0:15:32You can see the whirring blade up to speed.
0:15:32 > 0:15:35We can see Expulsion getting a nudge from Heavy Metal there.
0:15:37 > 0:15:38Foxic doing its damage.
0:15:38 > 0:15:41Looks cute, but it can go through a wall, I'm told.
0:15:41 > 0:15:44And Expulsion in on the spikes.
0:15:44 > 0:15:47- Get out there!- I can't move.
0:15:47 > 0:15:50Oh, MR Speed Squared looks wobbly here.
0:15:50 > 0:15:54I wonder if it is so powerful it is uncontrollable.
0:15:54 > 0:15:57And Foxic has been flipped. Can he self-right now?
0:15:57 > 0:15:59It doesn't look like it.
0:15:59 > 0:16:04MR Speed Squared back under control, comes in for the attack.
0:16:04 > 0:16:06It's OK now.
0:16:06 > 0:16:09And sending Expulsion surely out.
0:16:09 > 0:16:11Heavy Metal is moving.
0:16:11 > 0:16:12MR Speed Squared...
0:16:12 > 0:16:14Oh, lack of driving ability.
0:16:14 > 0:16:18A bit naive.
0:16:18 > 0:16:22Heavy Metal and MR Speed Squared through.
0:16:22 > 0:16:25- What just happened? - We're dead.
0:16:26 > 0:16:31Good attack by Foxic, in underneath Expulsion.
0:16:31 > 0:16:34Heavy Metal taking damage from MR Speed Squared there,
0:16:34 > 0:16:36but they are both through.
0:16:36 > 0:16:41MR Speed Squared rotating, looks improved until then.
0:16:41 > 0:16:43They sustained damage by that.
0:16:43 > 0:16:46I mean, what happened?
0:16:46 > 0:16:50The self-righting arm, the lifting arm, didn't fire for some reason.
0:16:50 > 0:16:53- Bring him back, please.- I will. - I mean, that went well.
0:16:53 > 0:16:55- Yeah.- No problem.- Some fixing to do.
0:16:55 > 0:16:57A little bit of fixing to do.
0:16:57 > 0:16:59We're looking at you, Dad.
0:16:59 > 0:17:01We'll take the wheel off, you fix it.
0:17:01 > 0:17:03I mean, you are through to the head-to-heads.
0:17:03 > 0:17:07- Oh, thank you very much.- Yay! Well done.
0:17:07 > 0:17:10MR Speed Squared, happy with how it went?
0:17:10 > 0:17:12I think so, it's the first time we've tried this one out
0:17:12 > 0:17:14and a few things to learn from.
0:17:14 > 0:17:18- The way it kind of...- Had a bit of a shaky...
0:17:18 > 0:17:20Gyroscopic procession, yes. Yes.
0:17:20 > 0:17:22I was going to say wobbly,
0:17:22 > 0:17:24but by all means use the term "gyroscopic progression" instead.
0:17:24 > 0:17:28They go through. Ladies and gentlemen, MR Speed Squared.
0:17:31 > 0:17:36MR Speed Squared and Heavy Metal return victorious to the pits,
0:17:36 > 0:17:38through to the head-to-heads.
0:17:38 > 0:17:42They now have two hours to work on repairs before their next fight.
0:17:42 > 0:17:44MR Speed Squared are happy with the first battle,
0:17:44 > 0:17:47but need to diagnose the internal damage caused by
0:17:47 > 0:17:50that impact with the arena spikes.
0:17:50 > 0:17:53If it's going to be a slog to get it going again...
0:17:53 > 0:17:55Whether the robot will still function we don't know yet.
0:17:55 > 0:17:57We'll find out in a minute.
0:17:57 > 0:18:00Although still mobile at the end of the battle, Heavy Metal
0:18:00 > 0:18:05has also taken damage, and on close inspection it is worse than feared.
0:18:05 > 0:18:06A bit more damaged than I thought.
0:18:06 > 0:18:08There is a lot of dents.
0:18:08 > 0:18:11The arm is all bent and that is stuck in there.
0:18:11 > 0:18:13I think the axle shifted.
0:18:13 > 0:18:15It could be serious, really serious.
0:18:15 > 0:18:18With the group battles over, the surviving robots are...
0:18:23 > 0:18:25Our first head-to-head is between...
0:18:29 > 0:18:32Concussion's burnt out motor was irreparable,
0:18:32 > 0:18:35so they already have to switch to a spare.
0:18:35 > 0:18:38I am doing the second of our spare motors
0:18:38 > 0:18:42cos the weld that was done on our other spare motor
0:18:42 > 0:18:45is like the Andes and we can't get our chain around it,
0:18:45 > 0:18:47so we're going to have to get this rewelded,
0:18:47 > 0:18:51and I'll stand there with him and make sure it's nice and tidy.
0:18:51 > 0:18:55Jason has traced the fault he felt was impeding his arena rampage.
0:18:55 > 0:19:00The issue was just this little wire here that had come off,
0:19:00 > 0:19:03so throw that away and I have replaced it.
0:19:03 > 0:19:05But that small fault has cost him dearly
0:19:05 > 0:19:09and could ultimately lose him the use of the weapon.
0:19:09 > 0:19:10It's only bent because I missed
0:19:10 > 0:19:14and the movement stopped suddenly on this point.
0:19:14 > 0:19:17And I've got a bit more power in it now, so I've turned it around
0:19:17 > 0:19:20and it should bend it back the other way. Can't keep doing that
0:19:20 > 0:19:23cos it will fatigue and crack and drop off or fly off.
0:19:25 > 0:19:29For seasoned roboteer Jason, Thor is a labour of love,
0:19:29 > 0:19:31So, after many iterations,
0:19:31 > 0:19:34could this version be approaching perfection?
0:19:36 > 0:19:37I'm Jason from Northampton
0:19:37 > 0:19:39and my robot is Thor.
0:19:43 > 0:19:45Part of being a builder is demolition,
0:19:45 > 0:19:47and that is what I'm bringing to Robot Wars.
0:19:50 > 0:19:55The new version of Thor is sleeker, lower, it's actually faster,
0:19:55 > 0:19:57more powerful and more relentless.
0:19:59 > 0:20:03The weapon can deliver 1,250 kilos of force
0:20:03 > 0:20:06in less than 250 milliseconds.
0:20:08 > 0:20:10How would I best described Thor?
0:20:10 > 0:20:12Relentless, savage and powerful.
0:20:16 > 0:20:18For team Concussion,
0:20:18 > 0:20:22building robots was a dream that led them into the world of engineering.
0:20:23 > 0:20:26My name's Tim, I'm the captain of Dorset Roboteering Team
0:20:26 > 0:20:28and our robot is Concussion.
0:20:30 > 0:20:34We've got Sam, he's the mechanical design expert.
0:20:34 > 0:20:36We've got Nick, he's the guy who's good with computers
0:20:36 > 0:20:39and electronics. And we've got Carl, our driver.
0:20:39 > 0:20:41He keeps cool under any amount of pressure.
0:20:44 > 0:20:46It is our first-ever robot in any weight category.
0:20:46 > 0:20:49We have gone straight in at heavyweight.
0:20:50 > 0:20:54What makes Concussion stand out is a really powerful drive system
0:20:54 > 0:20:55and a tenacious weapon.
0:20:57 > 0:21:00The feeling of winning Robot Wars would be almost second to none.
0:21:00 > 0:21:02It is what we have wanted for a long time.
0:21:02 > 0:21:04We've wanted to be there, be involved, but to win,
0:21:04 > 0:21:06it's a whole other level.
0:21:09 > 0:21:15In the CPZ, the nicest, 300kg robotic triceratops I know -
0:21:15 > 0:21:17Matilda.
0:21:17 > 0:21:21And for this guy, every move is a pincer move.
0:21:21 > 0:21:24It's Dead Metal.
0:21:24 > 0:21:29Three, two, one, activate.
0:21:29 > 0:21:30Will Jason's bent arm drop off?
0:21:30 > 0:21:32Did he shove his batteries down his trousers?
0:21:32 > 0:21:34That's what I want to know.
0:21:34 > 0:21:36There is the arena button.
0:21:36 > 0:21:39The House Robot goes rogue.
0:21:39 > 0:21:44Dead Metal enters the arena and pins Concussion.
0:21:48 > 0:21:52They are OK, just about.
0:21:52 > 0:21:55But their custom-made machine...
0:21:55 > 0:21:59can it get that drum up to 6,000 rpm,
0:21:59 > 0:22:02with that mighty top speed of 137mph?
0:22:05 > 0:22:08Not greatly damaging Thor.
0:22:08 > 0:22:12Thor faster, lower, more powerful, but smoking.
0:22:12 > 0:22:15Jason's machine smoking.
0:22:15 > 0:22:18Gets away. Has learned to control it at speed.
0:22:18 > 0:22:20Goodness me.
0:22:20 > 0:22:23Oh, that's not smoke! That is CO2 venting!
0:22:23 > 0:22:26It means he won't be able to use his axe!
0:22:26 > 0:22:28Look at this for a fight.
0:22:28 > 0:22:31They are wedged on the floor of the arena.
0:22:31 > 0:22:34This one might go to the judges.
0:22:34 > 0:22:36Concussion can't move.
0:22:36 > 0:22:38This is a battle to the very death.
0:22:38 > 0:22:40Concussion can't get out of there.
0:22:40 > 0:22:46They are spinning, there is the button again which means...
0:22:46 > 0:22:49this time it's Matilda.
0:22:49 > 0:22:51Oh, Matilda has done us in!
0:22:51 > 0:22:54Concussion wedged by Matilda.
0:22:54 > 0:22:58That means Thor can come in with that mighty axe.
0:22:58 > 0:22:59Slam, bam.
0:22:59 > 0:23:01Oh, Dead Metal in there as well.
0:23:03 > 0:23:05But poor Concussion.
0:23:05 > 0:23:08The are almost out of it
0:23:08 > 0:23:10because they are stuck in there.
0:23:10 > 0:23:13They can't drum... Can they get away? Oh!
0:23:15 > 0:23:19They flip Thor with the mighty power of the drum.
0:23:19 > 0:23:22What a turn up. What a turn up.
0:23:22 > 0:23:24What a battle that is.
0:23:24 > 0:23:26One of the best we've seen this series.
0:23:26 > 0:23:27Stupid, Jay.
0:23:27 > 0:23:29Jason is gobsmacked.
0:23:29 > 0:23:31Cease.
0:23:31 > 0:23:34Brilliant stuff.
0:23:34 > 0:23:37Well, they awoken from their Concussion.
0:23:41 > 0:23:43And Jason looks absolutely distraught
0:23:43 > 0:23:45because Thor was on the attack.
0:23:45 > 0:23:47It might have been smoking,
0:23:47 > 0:23:50but Concussion got stuck in there and couldn't get out.
0:23:50 > 0:23:53Something came off Thor, I think.
0:23:53 > 0:23:57That's when Matilda went in, tried to do her grisly best.
0:23:59 > 0:24:01But look at this.
0:24:01 > 0:24:04The power of the drum - it's all about the drumbeat.
0:24:04 > 0:24:08For Jason, a bad split-second decision cost him the match.
0:24:08 > 0:24:12His upgraded axe is now proving less than reliable.
0:24:12 > 0:24:16Being stupid, went in for a bit of a nudge just to try and sort of
0:24:16 > 0:24:18finish him off, and I went flying
0:24:18 > 0:24:20and then I couldn't turn myself back over.
0:24:20 > 0:24:22Concussion scraped the win,
0:24:22 > 0:24:25but the teething problems for this first time robot are worsening.
0:24:25 > 0:24:28Happy with the weapon and the drum...
0:24:28 > 0:24:31we're not too happy about the drive because we're pushing it too hard
0:24:31 > 0:24:34and it has blown all our controllers and motors at the minute.
0:24:34 > 0:24:37The rules are clear - if you can't deliver a working robot for
0:24:37 > 0:24:41the next fight, you'll lose your place in the competition.
0:24:42 > 0:24:44Next into the arena...
0:24:48 > 0:24:52MR Speed Squared's earlier fears about the internal condition of
0:24:52 > 0:24:55their machine have proved to be unfounded.
0:24:55 > 0:24:57We thought when we first got it off
0:24:57 > 0:24:59it was going to be completely screwed,
0:24:59 > 0:25:01like everything was just slack.
0:25:01 > 0:25:03But then we just took it apart, reassembled it,
0:25:03 > 0:25:06got all the adjustment sorted out
0:25:06 > 0:25:09and now it is good to go.
0:25:09 > 0:25:13No such luck for opponents Heavy Metal who are still smarting from
0:25:13 > 0:25:16the damage sustained in their last fight.
0:25:16 > 0:25:19This was an interchangeable part, like a grabbing arm.
0:25:19 > 0:25:21It got hit by Mr Speed Squared
0:25:21 > 0:25:23and it just went all into the side like that.
0:25:23 > 0:25:26We had to free it all up, cut it out.
0:25:26 > 0:25:29I've put another arm on, a different style of arm.
0:25:29 > 0:25:31One of our main concerns, obviously, it's the wheels,
0:25:31 > 0:25:34they are very exposed. One good hit from a spinner and it's curtains.
0:25:34 > 0:25:38Last series, MR Speed Squared turned heads
0:25:38 > 0:25:40with their outlandish new design.
0:25:40 > 0:25:42This innovative machine has great potential.
0:25:42 > 0:25:46But have they ironed out the complex engineering issues?
0:25:48 > 0:25:50We're Team Forsey.
0:25:50 > 0:25:53We're from Worcestershire and our robot is Mr Speed Squared.
0:25:55 > 0:25:59It's a family team, I'm the dad and I've got my two sons with me.
0:25:59 > 0:26:03Jake the driver, he's a computer programmer, an IT technician.
0:26:03 > 0:26:06My son Sam is a motorsport engineering student.
0:26:08 > 0:26:11There's many, many hours of work gone into Mr Speed Squared.
0:26:11 > 0:26:14If it gets destroyed I'll be quite upset.
0:26:16 > 0:26:18Mr Speed Squared is a ring spinner.
0:26:18 > 0:26:20360 degree offence,
0:26:20 > 0:26:22360 degree defence.
0:26:24 > 0:26:27If you touch it you will be ripped to pieces.
0:26:29 > 0:26:31If Mr Speed Squared works as it should
0:26:31 > 0:26:33then nobody will want to fight us.
0:26:37 > 0:26:40Opponents Heavy Metal are no strangers to destruction.
0:26:40 > 0:26:43Their two-tone machine certainly looks like it means business,
0:26:43 > 0:26:45but can it deliver?
0:26:49 > 0:26:52My name is John Denny, I'm the captain of the Heavy Metal team.
0:26:52 > 0:26:54In my team I've got my son John,
0:26:54 > 0:26:56he's the driver,
0:26:56 > 0:26:58my daughter Tasha and my wife Cath.
0:27:02 > 0:27:05My day-to-day job is a crash tester. I crash cars.
0:27:05 > 0:27:08From that job I think I bring a natural like for destruction.
0:27:11 > 0:27:13My son is still at college
0:27:13 > 0:27:16and my daughter and my wife both work for a fast-food restaurant.
0:27:17 > 0:27:22The robot is a wedge shape, two large wheels, totally invertible.
0:27:22 > 0:27:24You can throw it around all around the arena,
0:27:24 > 0:27:26it will come straight back at you. It's unstoppable.
0:27:26 > 0:27:30The most impressive technical aspect is probably the rotating arm.
0:27:31 > 0:27:34My ultimate goal in the competition is obviously to win it.
0:27:34 > 0:27:37Compared to us, all the other robots are lift music.
0:27:37 > 0:27:39We are Heavy Metal.
0:27:44 > 0:27:49In the CPZ - Sir Killalot and Shunt.
0:27:53 > 0:27:55Roboteers, standby.
0:27:55 > 0:27:57MR Speed Squared against Heavy Metal.
0:27:57 > 0:27:59If the disc of MR Speed Squared is functional,
0:27:59 > 0:28:01I think Heavy Metal could stand to lose their wheels here.
0:28:01 > 0:28:03Yes. Come on.
0:28:06 > 0:28:10Three, two, one, activate.
0:28:10 > 0:28:12"Good to go."
0:28:12 > 0:28:15That's the way MR Speed Squared described themselves.
0:28:15 > 0:28:18But that's a very good attack by Heavy Metal.
0:28:18 > 0:28:21Big whack on MR Speed Squared.
0:28:21 > 0:28:23Get him! Get him!
0:28:23 > 0:28:26But they're in underneath Heavy Metal, who can flip them,
0:28:26 > 0:28:29certainly bash them onto the arena wall there.
0:28:29 > 0:28:32Keep going! Hit him again!
0:28:32 > 0:28:35Screams for John Jr, the Heavy Metal driver,
0:28:35 > 0:28:38to hit MR Speed Squared again.
0:28:39 > 0:28:43And he is in underneath the circular machine.
0:28:43 > 0:28:45Back off!
0:28:45 > 0:28:48I can't really see much life in that full body spinner.
0:28:48 > 0:28:50It's not moving.
0:28:50 > 0:28:52It can get up to 1,000 rpm, but, Peter,
0:28:52 > 0:28:54you are heading down the aisle.
0:28:54 > 0:28:57I just can't tell what's happening either.
0:28:57 > 0:29:01If it continues like this, mind you, Ellie might not want you.
0:29:01 > 0:29:04Inadvertently they hit the arena button.
0:29:08 > 0:29:11They can spell, our audience, it's remarkable.
0:29:11 > 0:29:13Every day in every way they are getting better and better.
0:29:13 > 0:29:16Heavy Metal in underneath MR Speed Squared.
0:29:16 > 0:29:19That really has been the tactic of this battle.
0:29:19 > 0:29:22And into Shunt, into the CPZ.
0:29:22 > 0:29:25Down comes the big spike of Shunt
0:29:25 > 0:29:30to pierce that dodgy armament.
0:29:30 > 0:29:31Run away.
0:29:31 > 0:29:34Run away and keep running, MR Speed Squared.
0:29:35 > 0:29:37Do not go in the pit.
0:29:37 > 0:29:40That's basically sound advice.
0:29:40 > 0:29:42Dodge the pit.
0:29:42 > 0:29:44That's what they are trying to do.
0:29:44 > 0:29:46MR Speed Squared are very close to it.
0:29:46 > 0:29:49Doesn't matter that they went in afterwards,
0:29:49 > 0:29:53they pushed MR Speed Squared in first. A win for Heavy Metal.
0:29:53 > 0:29:55Cease.
0:30:00 > 0:30:02Good work all the way through by Heavy Metal there,
0:30:02 > 0:30:06pushing MR Speed Squared onto the floor flipper,
0:30:06 > 0:30:11into the CPZ, punishment sustained by the House Robot.
0:30:11 > 0:30:15Oh, and it was a penetrative punishment, too.
0:30:15 > 0:30:18They tried to evade, but down they went.
0:30:18 > 0:30:20Heavy Metal are jamming.
0:30:20 > 0:30:21Well, I'll be honest,
0:30:21 > 0:30:25even if I didn't seen the fight, I heard the cheering.
0:30:25 > 0:30:27Did it not start, what happened?
0:30:27 > 0:30:30- After that first ram into the wall it just stopped running.- More fights
0:30:30 > 0:30:32to come, so hopefully you can still get points on the board.
0:30:32 > 0:30:34You get nada out of this one
0:30:34 > 0:30:37because everything goes to this team.
0:30:37 > 0:30:39CHEERING
0:30:41 > 0:30:45MR Speed Squared are taking stock of the collective damage
0:30:45 > 0:30:48caused by both Heavy Metal and Shunt.
0:30:48 > 0:30:49Shunt got his axe in here,
0:30:49 > 0:30:52which has bent our sprocket down onto the motor,
0:30:52 > 0:30:54so it's locked solid.
0:30:54 > 0:30:57And we can't fix it until we can get this off, if we can get it off.
0:30:57 > 0:31:01We just had it welded on to make sure it didn't come off.
0:31:01 > 0:31:04Although Heavy Metal's exposed wheels were their biggest concern,
0:31:04 > 0:31:07they may actually have been the key to their success,
0:31:07 > 0:31:12giving them the grip to dominate MR Speed Squared.
0:31:12 > 0:31:15There was a lot of... The tyres came off,
0:31:15 > 0:31:18- the little tyre things we've got. - They've got to go back on,
0:31:18 > 0:31:20but we want to straighten all those up as well.
0:31:20 > 0:31:22We've got quite a lot of dents,
0:31:22 > 0:31:25so to get that maximum movement on the ground
0:31:25 > 0:31:29we want to make sure all of them can touch the ground to do it.
0:31:29 > 0:31:32So...just get a hammer out.
0:31:33 > 0:31:35After the first two head-to-heads,
0:31:35 > 0:31:39Heavy Metal and Concussion both have three points.
0:31:39 > 0:31:42Thor and MR Speed Squared are on zero.
0:31:42 > 0:31:46At its heart, Robot Wars is a celebration of what can be achieved
0:31:46 > 0:31:48with creativity and engineering.
0:31:48 > 0:31:52Something head judge Professor Noel Sharkey is passionate about,
0:31:52 > 0:31:57particularly when it can be used to fix problems in the real world.
0:31:57 > 0:32:00Now, we see a lot of destruction from our robots in there,
0:32:00 > 0:32:03so to think that robots are potentially going to save
0:32:03 > 0:32:05the planet is a stretch for some, I think.
0:32:05 > 0:32:08Well, I don't know if they will complete save it, but a really
0:32:08 > 0:32:09important role for robots
0:32:09 > 0:32:12is climate change and food production.
0:32:12 > 0:32:14At the minute there's a lot being developed. For instance,
0:32:14 > 0:32:17there are robots going in and repairing coral reefs
0:32:17 > 0:32:21and going under the polar ice caps collecting data about melting.
0:32:21 > 0:32:23And what about food production?
0:32:23 > 0:32:24Yeah, well, that's very important.
0:32:24 > 0:32:27The ones I like best are the swarm robots.
0:32:27 > 0:32:30And they go out and they drill holes in the ground and plant seeds.
0:32:30 > 0:32:33And they are working on robot bees for pollinating,
0:32:33 > 0:32:36- so it's all looking very good.- Which is a massive problem.- That's right.
0:32:36 > 0:32:37And we see a lot of kids down here,
0:32:37 > 0:32:40getting into robots, to build for Robot Wars,
0:32:40 > 0:32:42but there's a whole world opening up
0:32:42 > 0:32:45in terms of the applications and the industry.
0:32:45 > 0:32:47Yeah, this is all about fighting robots.
0:32:47 > 0:32:49In actual fact, it's developing engineering skills,
0:32:49 > 0:32:51and if we are going to solve these sort of problems,
0:32:51 > 0:32:53we need an awful lot more engineers.
0:32:53 > 0:32:56I like to think that we're at the forefront
0:32:56 > 0:32:58and may be responsible for saving the planet.
0:32:58 > 0:33:00- Yeah, maybe.- What do you think?
0:33:00 > 0:33:03We may be at the back front of saving the planet.
0:33:03 > 0:33:05Well, either or, that will do.
0:33:05 > 0:33:09Thank you so much, Professor Noel Sharkey. Thank you.
0:33:11 > 0:33:13Next into the arena are...
0:33:15 > 0:33:17This is a big opportunity for
0:33:17 > 0:33:19both teams, as the winner will go
0:33:19 > 0:33:20top of the leaderboard.
0:33:20 > 0:33:23With their wheels repaired, Heavy Metal are ready.
0:33:23 > 0:33:26Opponents Concussion are having no such luck,
0:33:26 > 0:33:29needing to replace not just their burnt out motors,
0:33:29 > 0:33:31but speed controllers, too.
0:33:31 > 0:33:32No! Idiot!
0:33:32 > 0:33:34With their deadline looming,
0:33:34 > 0:33:37the pressure is on to deliver a working robot to the arena
0:33:37 > 0:33:39or forfeit their place in the competition.
0:33:39 > 0:33:42What is the signal going to be like to the speed controllers, Nick?
0:33:42 > 0:33:44- Are you going to be ready just to go straight in?- Yeah.
0:33:44 > 0:33:46I'm just going to plug it in.
0:33:46 > 0:33:48With seconds to go before they're disqualified,
0:33:48 > 0:33:52the team put the lid on the robot, load up and head to the arena.
0:33:52 > 0:33:54Let's get there, let's get there.
0:33:55 > 0:33:58Can the hastily reassembled Concussion
0:33:58 > 0:34:00prove deadly to Heavy Metal?
0:34:00 > 0:34:03Or will John Jr's driving skills keep Heavy Metal's wheels intact
0:34:03 > 0:34:05and out of trouble?
0:34:08 > 0:34:14In the arena, the mighty, bighty, fighty - Dead Metal.
0:34:14 > 0:34:16And Matilda.
0:34:16 > 0:34:18Don't forget, they're are not very experienced,
0:34:18 > 0:34:21- so you should be able to run rings around them.- Right.
0:34:21 > 0:34:26Three, two, one, activate.
0:34:26 > 0:34:28Concussion only know one tactic -
0:34:28 > 0:34:30all out attack and dominance.
0:34:30 > 0:34:32That is their mantra.
0:34:32 > 0:34:33And we love that.
0:34:33 > 0:34:35Something came off Heavy Metal there.
0:34:35 > 0:34:38There are bolts flying.
0:34:38 > 0:34:42Bits of metal... Heavy Metal here taking some punishment.
0:34:42 > 0:34:45Concussion top of the... Oh!
0:34:48 > 0:34:50INDISTINCT CHAT
0:34:50 > 0:34:52Well, we knew the tyres were exposed.
0:34:52 > 0:34:56We now know Heavy Metal cannot move.
0:34:56 > 0:34:59It can spin and spin sluggishly,
0:34:59 > 0:35:01and I think it can't even spin any more.
0:35:01 > 0:35:04You can see the drum of Concussion spinning.
0:35:04 > 0:35:07Heavy Metal is going to be counted out.
0:35:07 > 0:35:09Concussion is moving.
0:35:09 > 0:35:11Mobile.
0:35:11 > 0:35:14Great win. Great win.
0:35:14 > 0:35:16Cease.
0:35:16 > 0:35:18Really good.
0:35:18 > 0:35:20Off goes the wheel out of the arena.
0:35:20 > 0:35:23What will they be like when they don't have drive problems?
0:35:23 > 0:35:25And a very good three points for Concussion.
0:35:25 > 0:35:30Heavy Metal's luck with their exposed wheels has finally run out.
0:35:30 > 0:35:34It took a massive hit on the wheel and it's sheared the axel off.
0:35:34 > 0:35:36It's the one we've welded previously.
0:35:36 > 0:35:38It's just going to need welding again.
0:35:38 > 0:35:40It's a weak point on the robot.
0:35:40 > 0:35:44Concussion, victorious again, take the lead.
0:35:44 > 0:35:47This winning run is forging strong unity within the team.
0:35:47 > 0:35:49These guys here, like, I get over excited.
0:35:49 > 0:35:52Sam goes off and does his thing, but these two stay calm
0:35:52 > 0:35:55and they know exactly where everything is at every point.
0:35:55 > 0:35:58So, yeah, fair play to these guys to get it running.
0:36:00 > 0:36:02Thor and Mr Speed Squared
0:36:02 > 0:36:04are next up into the arena.
0:36:04 > 0:36:06For each of these teams, winning here
0:36:06 > 0:36:09is essential to stay in the running.
0:36:09 > 0:36:14Performing his final checks, Jason has found a new problem with Thor.
0:36:14 > 0:36:18I seem to have a problem with the drive with one of the wheels.
0:36:18 > 0:36:21And it's...very stiff.
0:36:25 > 0:36:28Stress levels are rising for Jason.
0:36:28 > 0:36:32Meanwhile, MR Speed Squared are still patching themselves up
0:36:32 > 0:36:34after their brush with Shunt.
0:36:34 > 0:36:37With the battle rapidly approaching, team captain Pete
0:36:37 > 0:36:40is forced to employ some precision engineering techniques
0:36:40 > 0:36:43to straighten the weapon motor sprocket.
0:36:43 > 0:36:46That's better. Much better.
0:36:46 > 0:36:49Both these teams are fighting for their robot's lives in
0:36:49 > 0:36:50the competition.
0:36:50 > 0:36:54A bad defeat now will dent more than their machine.
0:36:54 > 0:36:58In the corner patrol zone, the king of carnage - Sir Killalot.
0:36:59 > 0:37:01And Dead Metal.
0:37:04 > 0:37:09Three, two, one, activate.
0:37:09 > 0:37:13Can Mr Speed Squared deliver some payback here?
0:37:13 > 0:37:16In comes Thor. He's had problems with the axe arm.
0:37:16 > 0:37:20He couldn't self-right because the CO2 vented in the last one,
0:37:20 > 0:37:24but everything seems to be OK now.
0:37:24 > 0:37:27He's had drive problems in one of the wheels.
0:37:27 > 0:37:29But Thor looks back to its best now.
0:37:29 > 0:37:31And with the precision repairs,
0:37:31 > 0:37:35MR Speed Squared hit their machine with a hammer.
0:37:35 > 0:37:37Now they're being hammered.
0:37:39 > 0:37:40And they're out.
0:37:40 > 0:37:42Cease.
0:37:42 > 0:37:44Out of this one anyway.
0:37:44 > 0:37:47Victory in this battle for Thor.
0:37:47 > 0:37:49Oh, so disappointing.
0:37:49 > 0:37:50Look at Thor's drive.
0:37:50 > 0:37:52His drive is like next level.
0:37:54 > 0:37:57So much drive, on the attack straightaway.
0:37:57 > 0:37:58Bash!
0:38:01 > 0:38:04Crash. Smash!
0:38:05 > 0:38:09And in underneath with the wedge. Down came the axe again.
0:38:09 > 0:38:11A battering.
0:38:11 > 0:38:14Turns out getting hit in the head is probably
0:38:14 > 0:38:15- the greater problem for you.- Yeah.
0:38:15 > 0:38:18- No, that's true. Our battery's packed up, basically.- Oh, really?
0:38:18 > 0:38:20And was it the fact that he came in very close to you
0:38:20 > 0:38:23- and just hammered you on the head with an axe?- I don't think so.
0:38:23 > 0:38:25- It can't have helped.- Yeah.
0:38:25 > 0:38:27The results will have to fall your way,
0:38:27 > 0:38:30but there's still a chance you can get through into the final,
0:38:30 > 0:38:31so don't give up just yet.
0:38:31 > 0:38:34- Equally, you're not there fully yet...- No, I know.
0:38:34 > 0:38:35..because of the last defeat,
0:38:35 > 0:38:37but this was definitely a step in the right direction.
0:38:37 > 0:38:40It was, yeah. Well pleased. Robot's much better than it was.
0:38:40 > 0:38:42So at the end of that,
0:38:42 > 0:38:45no points, but still in the game for MR Speed Squared
0:38:45 > 0:38:47and three points for Thor.
0:38:49 > 0:38:52Defeat at the hands of Thor seems to have deflated
0:38:52 > 0:38:54the MR Speed Squared team.
0:38:54 > 0:38:56Unable to form a plan of action,
0:38:56 > 0:39:00the boys have turned to soup as they mull over their predicament.
0:39:00 > 0:39:05Jason meanwhile is delighted Thor is finally living up to expectations.
0:39:05 > 0:39:07Oh, that was better.
0:39:07 > 0:39:09The smile's back. Happy with that.
0:39:09 > 0:39:11Drive system is working as it should be.
0:39:11 > 0:39:16I think the axe is on fire as well, so, yeah.
0:39:16 > 0:39:19With only two head-to-heads to go, the scores look like this.
0:39:19 > 0:39:23At the bottom of the table is MR Speed Squared with zero.
0:39:23 > 0:39:26Heavy Metal and Thor both have three.
0:39:26 > 0:39:28But in the lead and definitely through to tonight's final,
0:39:28 > 0:39:31it's Concussion with six.
0:39:31 > 0:39:34Next to fight, drum meets disc as
0:39:34 > 0:39:36Concussion take on MR Speed Squared.
0:39:36 > 0:39:40Having rewired their power supply after their fight with Thor,
0:39:40 > 0:39:42MR Speed Squared are in the test arena
0:39:42 > 0:39:44trying to get their disc into action.
0:39:44 > 0:39:46We just done what we should have done before,
0:39:46 > 0:39:49test the disc before we go into the arena and it's not working.
0:39:51 > 0:39:56Unable to start the disc, the team try to diagnose the problem.
0:39:56 > 0:40:00So what has changed between the first fight and this fight?
0:40:00 > 0:40:03We got rammed into the disc a lot harder.
0:40:03 > 0:40:06Yeah.
0:40:06 > 0:40:07It is the friction.
0:40:07 > 0:40:11Their next opponents, Concussion, are aware of the issues,
0:40:11 > 0:40:14but won't be making any concessions in the arena.
0:40:14 > 0:40:17It didn't look like their weapon was going, so...
0:40:19 > 0:40:22..just going to go hell for leather at them, I suppose, really.
0:40:22 > 0:40:25MR Speed Squared's ground-breaking design is proving tough to fix.
0:40:25 > 0:40:29Things are going from bad to worse for the family team.
0:40:29 > 0:40:31It's died.
0:40:31 > 0:40:33Yeah, it wasn't me, it stopped.
0:40:35 > 0:40:37It's a battery problem.
0:40:40 > 0:40:43MR Speed Squared have done what they can to get their machine running,
0:40:43 > 0:40:48replacing batteries and reducing the tension on the spinning disc.
0:40:48 > 0:40:50It's their last chance to get points on the board,
0:40:50 > 0:40:52but up against league leaders Concussion,
0:40:52 > 0:40:55will they be lambs to the slaughter?
0:40:56 > 0:40:59Concussion's place in the final is secure, but their chance of
0:40:59 > 0:41:02making it to the grand final in one piece could be dashed
0:41:02 > 0:41:04if that MR Speed Squared disc is working.
0:41:04 > 0:41:08Oh, it's totally out of control!
0:41:08 > 0:41:12Oh, like a whirling dervish, like a mad thing out there.
0:41:12 > 0:41:16Well, it was absolutely buzzing, it took them right out of control.
0:41:16 > 0:41:19It's not working now, so Concussion can come in.
0:41:19 > 0:41:21Open the pit. Go on, open the pit.
0:41:23 > 0:41:27They will have to rely on driving skills, pushing power.
0:41:27 > 0:41:32The arena button signals the pit to go down.
0:41:32 > 0:41:36Concussion will try and manoeuvre them towards that pit.
0:41:36 > 0:41:38Slowly, slowly, slowly.
0:41:38 > 0:41:42Well done, MR Speed Squared, for getting away there.
0:41:44 > 0:41:46Keep going. Keep on him.
0:41:46 > 0:41:52He fits peacemakers, you know, Pete Forsey, the cardiologist.
0:41:52 > 0:41:57He's trying to keep them a pace ahead of Concussion.
0:41:57 > 0:42:00But now they are in the grip of Dead Metal.
0:42:02 > 0:42:05A bit of slice and dice, which is always nice.
0:42:05 > 0:42:08Get away, get away, get away! Oh, just... No, no, no, not there!
0:42:10 > 0:42:12This is wearing me out.
0:42:12 > 0:42:15Concussion in again on the attack.
0:42:15 > 0:42:18I don't think they can get much damage caused on MR Speed Squared
0:42:18 > 0:42:19because of that...
0:42:19 > 0:42:22That blade acting as armament, actually.
0:42:22 > 0:42:23It is stopping the drum of Concussion
0:42:23 > 0:42:25really causing too many problems.
0:42:25 > 0:42:27This is tentative, a bit of a nudge,
0:42:27 > 0:42:29a bit of a shove here and there.
0:42:32 > 0:42:33Oh, they are in there again.
0:42:38 > 0:42:41Don't let him go! What are you doing, Dead Metal?
0:42:41 > 0:42:42Ah, go on, Killalot.
0:42:44 > 0:42:46Stop. Go, go!
0:42:46 > 0:42:49No, he can't get away from Killalot. No, no, no.
0:42:49 > 0:42:53Killalot is mean and merciless, just about perfect.
0:42:53 > 0:42:55And away goes MR Speed Squared.
0:42:55 > 0:42:58The writing is on the wall.
0:42:58 > 0:43:03Concussion has been hit and dented, but it has been a very good machine
0:43:03 > 0:43:07and very nearly got itself on the precipice there.
0:43:07 > 0:43:11When you consider that the armament of Concussion could be a weak spot,
0:43:11 > 0:43:14they have done well, really, to dodge any sort of
0:43:14 > 0:43:17massive punishment throughout this heat.
0:43:17 > 0:43:19Oh, is that smoke? Is that smoke?
0:43:19 > 0:43:24- Something is on fire. - Something is on fire in Concussion.
0:43:24 > 0:43:30And this could be hugely significant for later on.
0:43:30 > 0:43:33And MR Speed Squared
0:43:33 > 0:43:36could be this battle winner
0:43:36 > 0:43:39because they are still mobile.
0:43:39 > 0:43:41Concussion just about.
0:43:43 > 0:43:45Well, they have worked tremendously hard, MR Speed Squared,
0:43:45 > 0:43:47to get a machine back into the arena.
0:43:47 > 0:43:50It is now a little bit of a push.
0:43:50 > 0:43:52The Concussion drum is still working.
0:43:52 > 0:43:58You can see that MR Speed Squared have no weaponry, to be honest.
0:43:58 > 0:44:00- Cease.- Cease is called.
0:44:00 > 0:44:02That's intriguing.
0:44:02 > 0:44:03Didn't go to plan.
0:44:06 > 0:44:09Yes, the blade is working right at the start.
0:44:09 > 0:44:11It's brilliant, isn't it? Oh, dear.
0:44:11 > 0:44:14It is like your dad dancing at a disco.
0:44:14 > 0:44:17Yeah, he was like that, I can tell you, my dad.
0:44:19 > 0:44:23The old blade is bent and warped, the nudge into Concussion there.
0:44:23 > 0:44:24Concussion getting away,
0:44:24 > 0:44:28not so MR Speed Squared, caught by Dead Metal in there.
0:44:28 > 0:44:33Sustaining damage to circuitry and to armament.
0:44:33 > 0:44:36Down with a crash and a slam, that won't have helped.
0:44:36 > 0:44:39But they stayed on in there.
0:44:39 > 0:44:41Remarkable, really.
0:44:41 > 0:44:44The judges will be totalling up the scorers for control,
0:44:44 > 0:44:46damage and aggression.
0:44:46 > 0:44:49- It was a good battle. - Yeah, we enjoyed that.
0:44:49 > 0:44:51We had a bit of a spin at the start as well.
0:44:51 > 0:44:53Like a little coin flip.
0:44:53 > 0:44:56I mean, we did think briefly that it may be
0:44:56 > 0:44:59curtains straightaway after that glorious little spin.
0:44:59 > 0:45:01- But you pulled it back.- Yeah.
0:45:01 > 0:45:04Let's go over to Concussion. You were sailing through.
0:45:04 > 0:45:06- The gremlins are back.- Yes.
0:45:06 > 0:45:09There was a little bit of steam out of the back at the very end.
0:45:09 > 0:45:12- I think flames as well.- Flames! - Yeah, one of the motors is gone.
0:45:12 > 0:45:14Oh, dear.
0:45:14 > 0:45:17Their ring is just that height that we can't get to their main body,
0:45:17 > 0:45:20so we were just chunking away.
0:45:20 > 0:45:23It is just the worst height to try and get him.
0:45:23 > 0:45:25It has gone to a judges' decision
0:45:25 > 0:45:29and that decision was unanimous in favour of...
0:45:29 > 0:45:31Concussion.
0:45:31 > 0:45:34Good luck in the final.
0:45:34 > 0:45:37So for MR Speed Squared the competition is over.
0:45:37 > 0:45:39And for team captain Pete,
0:45:39 > 0:45:41this now has some life-changing ramifications.
0:45:41 > 0:45:47I said if I didn't win Robot Wars I might marry Ellie.
0:45:47 > 0:45:49- A mistake.- No, it's not a mistake.
0:45:49 > 0:45:51It is something I have kind of, I don't know why,
0:45:51 > 0:45:53but I've been putting it off a bit.
0:45:53 > 0:45:56Probably because of bloody Robot Wars, actually.
0:45:56 > 0:45:58I need to do that, really.
0:45:58 > 0:46:01- ANGELA:- So it's a happy ending for Peter and fiancee Ellie,
0:46:01 > 0:46:04and the good news doesn't stop there,
0:46:04 > 0:46:07as long shot Concussion have made it through to tonight's final.
0:46:07 > 0:46:10However, they still require a working machine,
0:46:10 > 0:46:14so the unreliable drive system could yet be their undoing.
0:46:14 > 0:46:18We don't know what's gone wrong with our left-hand side drive.
0:46:18 > 0:46:21Some strange goings-on.
0:46:21 > 0:46:24It has been replaced already, so gremlins again.
0:46:24 > 0:46:26That's the hardest we've pushed it.
0:46:26 > 0:46:28Yeah, we pushed it to the max there.
0:46:28 > 0:46:30So who will be their opponents
0:46:30 > 0:46:31in the final?
0:46:31 > 0:46:32It comes down to this last
0:46:32 > 0:46:34head-to-head between Thor
0:46:34 > 0:46:36and Heavy Metal.
0:46:36 > 0:46:38Both teams have been struggling with major repairs
0:46:38 > 0:46:42and mechanical setbacks throughout the competition.
0:46:43 > 0:46:46Heavy Metal have proven a tough opponent to beat,
0:46:46 > 0:46:50with an edge of speed and grip through those huge wheels.
0:46:50 > 0:46:52But can they stand Thor's massive hits
0:46:52 > 0:46:55now that he's finally up to full strength?
0:46:58 > 0:47:00Another huge decider here at the end of this episode
0:47:00 > 0:47:03because it is Heavy Metal versus Thor.
0:47:03 > 0:47:05- How is it going to go? - It could go either way, really.
0:47:05 > 0:47:08- We're hopeful.- Are you?- Very.
0:47:08 > 0:47:09Your driving has been excellent.
0:47:09 > 0:47:13Your weapon, I think, has been not quite decisive.
0:47:13 > 0:47:16It took some serious knocks in the melee.
0:47:16 > 0:47:19It's not working too well. It's working, but not as it should.
0:47:19 > 0:47:21How will you cope with the axe?
0:47:21 > 0:47:25- We don't know. - We'll tell you afterwards.
0:47:25 > 0:47:27Have you given any consideration to this?
0:47:27 > 0:47:28You know he's got an axe, he's Thor.
0:47:28 > 0:47:31- We've not fought an axe before. - Have you not?- No.
0:47:31 > 0:47:33Listen, I can only wish you the best of luck.
0:47:33 > 0:47:35Give it up for Heavy Metal, ladies and gentlemen.
0:47:35 > 0:47:37CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
0:47:37 > 0:47:40Jason, it is battle of the drivers.
0:47:40 > 0:47:42We have seen John Jr over there doing an amazing job...
0:47:42 > 0:47:44Yeah, he's a very good.
0:47:44 > 0:47:46..with Heavy Metal, have serious armour there...
0:47:46 > 0:47:50I have put the heavy hammer on, so it delivers a bit more power.
0:47:50 > 0:47:52And the front is flat to the floor,
0:47:52 > 0:47:54that should get straight under him.
0:47:54 > 0:47:56OK. Please give it up for Thor.
0:47:56 > 0:48:00CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
0:48:00 > 0:48:06In the arena, it is the thoroughly malicious Matilda.
0:48:06 > 0:48:08And Dead Metal.
0:48:11 > 0:48:16Three, two, one, activate.
0:48:19 > 0:48:23And Thor immediately getting in underneath Heavy Metal.
0:48:23 > 0:48:27We knew that would be Jason's tactics. Down comes the axe.
0:48:27 > 0:48:30Nice. Get his back. Go on. You got this.
0:48:30 > 0:48:31Look at the arena floor -
0:48:31 > 0:48:34it's absolutely littered with the little rubber feet
0:48:34 > 0:48:37that are on the wheels of Heavy Metal to give it traction,
0:48:37 > 0:48:40which means they can hardly move without skittering.
0:48:40 > 0:48:43John Jr is doing a brilliant job, though.
0:48:43 > 0:48:44Turns away again.
0:48:46 > 0:48:50Oh, nearly lined up for an attack to come in behind Heavy Metal and flip.
0:48:50 > 0:48:55And once again John Jr turns Heavy Metal away.
0:48:55 > 0:48:57The weaponry electronically powered.
0:48:57 > 0:48:59Oh, no!
0:48:59 > 0:49:04Can move it 10 rpm, but it's going nowhere.
0:49:04 > 0:49:06And Thor is in behind...
0:49:06 > 0:49:09Oh, and then Thor hit the arena floor
0:49:09 > 0:49:12and couldn't sustain the attack.
0:49:12 > 0:49:15Couldn't drive home the advantage.
0:49:15 > 0:49:18Goes onto the floor spikes.
0:49:18 > 0:49:22Drove Heavy Metal into Matilda's rear.
0:49:22 > 0:49:27And off comes the wheel of Heavy Metal.
0:49:27 > 0:49:31And now stuck between Thor and Matilda.
0:49:31 > 0:49:38And I'm afraid this Heavy Metal gig is about to end
0:49:38 > 0:49:43with a slow dance towards the pit, unless Thor...
0:49:43 > 0:49:45Really got into trouble from Dead Metal.
0:49:45 > 0:49:47Cease is called. Thor is the winner.
0:49:47 > 0:49:51Heavy Metal, game opponents, but a beaten opponent.
0:49:51 > 0:49:54Oh, what's this from Matilda?
0:49:54 > 0:49:56Oh, a really big hit.
0:49:56 > 0:49:59Don't tango with the rear end of Matilda.
0:50:02 > 0:50:04All out attack.
0:50:04 > 0:50:06Thor using that front wedge to get in underneath.
0:50:06 > 0:50:09I think the grabber is bent.
0:50:09 > 0:50:12That's when the wheel came off, that's when Matilda came in,
0:50:12 > 0:50:15that's where Heavy Metal were beaten.
0:50:15 > 0:50:19Thor is victorious and will meet Concussion in the final.
0:50:19 > 0:50:23Seasoned roboteer Jason is confident of his ability
0:50:23 > 0:50:24to decimate his rival.
0:50:24 > 0:50:28Concussion is a drum spinner and with the front-end that I've got
0:50:28 > 0:50:30I think I can go straight underneath it
0:50:30 > 0:50:32and then it's just a case of bludgeoning him to death.
0:50:32 > 0:50:35- ANGELA:- Concussion still have a huge electrical repair job
0:50:35 > 0:50:37before they are ready to fight.
0:50:37 > 0:50:41This fairy-tale story could yet unravel for the new team.
0:50:41 > 0:50:46He's tough armoured, he's fast and he's got a strong overhead weapon.
0:50:46 > 0:50:50But we've got a drum.
0:50:50 > 0:50:52And it has given him a nasty lick before,
0:50:52 > 0:50:55hopefully we can do it again. And we are going to point that thing at him
0:50:55 > 0:50:57and hope he comes hell for leather.
0:51:00 > 0:51:03Our finalists tonight could not be more different.
0:51:03 > 0:51:06e have the first-timers, Concussion.
0:51:06 > 0:51:09Built by Robot Wars fans whose love of the show inspired them
0:51:09 > 0:51:10to try their luck.
0:51:10 > 0:51:12Versus the battle hardened Thor,
0:51:12 > 0:51:15with years of fighting experience under his rusty belt.
0:51:15 > 0:51:18But only one can go through to our grand final.
0:51:22 > 0:51:25Last series, Thor's agility, speed and accuracy
0:51:25 > 0:51:27stunned the competition.
0:51:27 > 0:51:31He came back this time with promises of a new improved robot
0:51:31 > 0:51:34that was harder, faster and stronger.
0:51:34 > 0:51:35But in this group battle,
0:51:35 > 0:51:38Jason's new creation didn't live up to expectations,
0:51:38 > 0:51:41failing to dominate his early head-to-heads.
0:51:41 > 0:51:44Jason's wake-up call was against Concussion,
0:51:44 > 0:51:46costing him valuable points.
0:51:46 > 0:51:47That was stupid, Jay.
0:51:48 > 0:51:50Since then Jason has worked
0:51:50 > 0:51:52tirelessly to get Thor back up to strength.
0:51:52 > 0:51:55The smile's back. Happy with that.
0:51:55 > 0:51:59Now with his drive at full speed and his axe at full power,
0:51:59 > 0:52:03can the all-new Thor claim a place in the grand final?
0:52:03 > 0:52:08To do that you have to defeat newcomer Concussion.
0:52:08 > 0:52:11This orange whirling dervish has astounded everybody
0:52:11 > 0:52:14with its tenacity and brutal power in battle.
0:52:16 > 0:52:20The Concussion team have faced relentless repairs time after time,
0:52:20 > 0:52:23as those high-voltage drives burnt out in the heat of battle.
0:52:23 > 0:52:25We're going to be bloomin' soldering
0:52:25 > 0:52:29as we're walking into the bloomin' arena.
0:52:29 > 0:52:31If they can avoid another battle bonfire,
0:52:31 > 0:52:34could this be the fairy-tale ending for the boys
0:52:34 > 0:52:37who went from fans to finalists?
0:52:37 > 0:52:39Now, when these two met in their head-to-head,
0:52:39 > 0:52:41Jason's showboating cost him the match.
0:52:41 > 0:52:44Can Concussion get the best of Thor for a second time?
0:52:44 > 0:52:50Three, two, one, activate.
0:52:50 > 0:52:53Jason is a builder. His estimate was a bludgeoning victory.
0:52:53 > 0:52:55Yeah, we all know about builder's estimates, Jason.
0:52:55 > 0:52:59And Thor at the moment a bit cagey, doesn't want to go...
0:52:59 > 0:53:01head-to-head with that spinning drum.
0:53:01 > 0:53:05Wants to angle an attack to get its axe down.
0:53:05 > 0:53:08And Jason so experienced at the controls.
0:53:08 > 0:53:11He thought he had a bit of an edge there. He didn't.
0:53:11 > 0:53:13Well, I can't see any great damage caused.
0:53:13 > 0:53:15Is his axe not working?
0:53:17 > 0:53:20Again, Jason might have gone a little cocksure there going in
0:53:20 > 0:53:22and nearly got flipped.
0:53:22 > 0:53:24That's what happened to him before.
0:53:24 > 0:53:27A little bit overconfident perhaps.
0:53:28 > 0:53:32Comes in with a side attack, on an angle.
0:53:32 > 0:53:35Concussion holding the central ground.
0:53:35 > 0:53:37Dead Metal awaits.
0:53:37 > 0:53:38Concussion nearly pinned.
0:53:38 > 0:53:40He's leaking gas.
0:53:40 > 0:53:42Gas is venting from Thor.
0:53:42 > 0:53:45Now, this is what happened before against Concussion
0:53:45 > 0:53:47because when Concussion turned Thor over...
0:53:47 > 0:53:49Jason lacked any sort of...
0:53:49 > 0:53:52because of a lack of CO2 to self-right.
0:53:54 > 0:53:56Down will go the pit.
0:53:56 > 0:54:00This is a very tactical heat final.
0:54:00 > 0:54:06And Concussion... is prowling and growling.
0:54:06 > 0:54:10And again holding the arena central space.
0:54:10 > 0:54:13There is no power in that Thor axe, it would seem.
0:54:13 > 0:54:15Thor is in trouble
0:54:15 > 0:54:17because it can't dish out punishment
0:54:17 > 0:54:21unless there is something left in the weaponry.
0:54:26 > 0:54:29And so the heat final goes on.
0:54:29 > 0:54:32And he did have enough power to self-right.
0:54:32 > 0:54:34He was holding it back.
0:54:34 > 0:54:37Brilliant stuff from Jason.
0:54:37 > 0:54:42Good attack from Concussion, on the side, over went Thor.
0:54:42 > 0:54:46Would it suffer the same problem as before? No.
0:54:46 > 0:54:47Good recovery.
0:54:49 > 0:54:53"We are all grown-up kids living out our childhood fantasy,"
0:54:53 > 0:54:54say the Concussion boys.
0:54:54 > 0:54:57It's buckled him. It's buckled him good.
0:54:57 > 0:55:00And that front wedge has buckled, they think.
0:55:00 > 0:55:04And Concussion again the more aggressive.
0:55:04 > 0:55:07The drum spinner may not be up to the maximum 6,000 rpm
0:55:07 > 0:55:09and can't spin now
0:55:09 > 0:55:14because Jason is using the Thor wedge to break that drum,
0:55:14 > 0:55:16to stop that drum moving.
0:55:16 > 0:55:19Now it will move again as it frees itself.
0:55:19 > 0:55:21This is very tight.
0:55:21 > 0:55:23I wouldn't want to be a judge if it goes all the way.
0:55:23 > 0:55:25There's still power in the axe.
0:55:25 > 0:55:27- He's up. Get him.- It's going as fast as it can.
0:55:27 > 0:55:30But can it move Thor?
0:55:30 > 0:55:36- Don't jam him.- Don't restart him. - Pull back.
0:55:36 > 0:55:38Like two heavyweights who have punched themselves out.
0:55:38 > 0:55:42And that might have been a little bit of a fake from Thor there
0:55:42 > 0:55:45because Thor is on the attack. Now on the flame pits.
0:55:45 > 0:55:49It's not going to do Concussion's motors any good.
0:55:49 > 0:55:53Cease is called after a brutal, abrasive heat final.
0:55:53 > 0:55:55We could have won.
0:55:55 > 0:55:59They might have won. Or has he won? Has he wasted an opportunity?
0:55:59 > 0:56:01Doesn't look happy.
0:56:05 > 0:56:08Thor flipped, came down.
0:56:08 > 0:56:12But that was Concussion's tactic to draw Thor in.
0:56:12 > 0:56:15You can see the CO2 venting again,
0:56:15 > 0:56:18but very cleverly Jason kept enough in the tank.
0:56:21 > 0:56:25And when flipped there, could self-right.
0:56:25 > 0:56:27That's experience for you.
0:56:27 > 0:56:29Well, that will count in his favour.
0:56:29 > 0:56:32It is time for our judges to decide.
0:56:32 > 0:56:35So after three minutes of these two fine robots running around,
0:56:35 > 0:56:37smashing into each other,
0:56:37 > 0:56:41there was no definite winner, it has gone to a judges' decision.
0:56:41 > 0:56:43We are awaiting that result.
0:56:43 > 0:56:46Concussion, this is your first time out, lads.
0:56:46 > 0:56:48And you've gone all the way, this far anyway...
0:56:48 > 0:56:50- Which we are super chuffed with. - Yes.
0:56:50 > 0:56:52We thought, we're happy to go out in the four-way,
0:56:52 > 0:56:55but, no, we went through that. Happy to go out next time.
0:56:55 > 0:56:56- No, we got that.- OK, grand.
0:56:56 > 0:56:59Now you're in the final awaiting the judges' decision.
0:56:59 > 0:57:02Do you think you'll get it, do you think you've done enough?
0:57:02 > 0:57:04We certainly hope so. We certainly hope we kept
0:57:04 > 0:57:06the weapon pointed at Thor long enough.
0:57:06 > 0:57:08Listen, it was a good fight.
0:57:08 > 0:57:10Give it up for Concussion, ladies and gentlemen.
0:57:12 > 0:57:15It was kind of a battle, the old guard against the newbies.
0:57:15 > 0:57:18And the idea would have been that you schooled them,
0:57:18 > 0:57:21- but it was much more even than that, right?- It was, yeah, good machine.
0:57:21 > 0:57:25Very, very good machine. It was like trying to get hold of a bar of soap.
0:57:25 > 0:57:27I was trying to push them towards the House Robots or in the pit,
0:57:27 > 0:57:29I just couldn't do it.
0:57:29 > 0:57:32It was a close one. Give it up for Thor, please.
0:57:32 > 0:57:34APPLAUSE
