0:02:39 > 0:02:42They're the best in the world because of the just raw power
0:02:42 > 0:02:44and good old British engineering.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55CHEERING
0:03:55 > 0:03:57Good luck! Good luck.
0:04:01 > 0:04:04As team captain for Team Rest Of The World,
0:04:04 > 0:04:09I want to make sure that we bring a variety of weapons to this fight.
0:04:09 > 0:04:12So that no matter which kind of opponent we're facing,
0:04:12 > 0:04:16we have its Kryptonite sitting there in the corner, waiting to go.
0:04:18 > 0:04:22From the Netherlands, Jeroen van Lieverloo.
0:04:26 > 0:04:28No, he hasn't swapped sides,
0:04:28 > 0:04:31it's an homage to legendary house robot Sergeant Bash.
0:04:33 > 0:04:37Sergeant Bash was equipped with a 360-degree flame-thrower
0:04:37 > 0:04:39and toasted competitor robots
0:04:39 > 0:04:42who were foolish enough to cross his path.
0:04:42 > 0:04:45For Jeroen, the Netherlands' number one superfan,
0:04:45 > 0:04:48it was time to bring him out of retirement.
0:04:48 > 0:04:51Well, we miss Sergeant Bash, really.
0:04:51 > 0:04:55And it deserves to be in the arena. And this is our tribute to it.
0:04:56 > 0:05:00From Russia, Alan Gubiev.
0:05:06 > 0:05:08It is an honour to represent Russia
0:05:08 > 0:05:11and, in fact, we are the first Russian team
0:05:11 > 0:05:15which has taken part in Robot Wars, which is quite amazing for us.
0:05:15 > 0:05:17From Canada, John Frizell.
0:05:22 > 0:05:25I used to work for Greenpeace, so as an active environmentalist,
0:05:25 > 0:05:28I tried to bring those principles to the building of the robot.
0:05:28 > 0:05:32So it's built mostly out of recycled material and a bit of scrap as well.
0:05:32 > 0:05:34Terror Turtle is bringing something special
0:05:34 > 0:05:36to the Rest Of The World team.
0:05:36 > 0:05:38It's the best-looking robot in the bunch.
0:05:41 > 0:05:43Here's how the competition works.
0:05:43 > 0:05:45We start with the tag-team battles.
0:05:45 > 0:05:49Two robots per side, but only one can fight at a time,
0:05:49 > 0:05:51tagging their team-mate in when required.
0:05:51 > 0:05:53Then the head-to-heads,
0:05:53 > 0:05:55before the two captains face off in our final.
0:05:55 > 0:05:59Remember, each victory earns their side precious points,
0:05:59 > 0:06:02with the highest-scoring team winning the competition.
0:06:04 > 0:06:08The teams make their way to the arena for the first battle.
0:06:08 > 0:06:12Representing the UK are the current Robot Wars champion,
0:06:12 > 0:06:14Michael Oates, with Eruption...
0:06:15 > 0:06:18..and the vicious jaws of Big Nipper.
0:06:21 > 0:06:23We're taking on people from all around the world...
0:06:25 > 0:06:28..and we're going to prove why the UK is best.
0:06:35 > 0:06:38If we can get hold of one of them, we'll bring them back to you...
0:06:38 > 0:06:40- And then we can double-team them? - Yeah.
0:06:40 > 0:06:42Get them in CPZ. Yeah, that'll be fun.
0:06:42 > 0:06:46They're up against a Rest of the World tag-team.
0:06:48 > 0:06:52In these tag-team battles, tactics are key.
0:06:52 > 0:06:54Robot combat is a game of rock, paper, scissors,
0:06:54 > 0:06:56and on the team we have five robots,
0:06:56 > 0:06:59so we have a broad range of weaponry available.
0:06:59 > 0:07:02So if one weapon isn't working against our opponent,
0:07:02 > 0:07:05we can tag out and bring in a different weapon.
0:07:05 > 0:07:08- What do we do if the other guy cheats?- OK, look, it's very simple.
0:07:08 > 0:07:10I want you to fight fair and honourably,
0:07:10 > 0:07:12but do what you have to do to win.
0:07:12 > 0:07:15The teams are ready, so let's hand over to Jonathan Pierce.
0:07:17 > 0:07:18Thanks, Dara and Angela.
0:07:18 > 0:07:21The rules for these tag-team battles is simple.
0:07:21 > 0:07:23Each team has two robots in the arena.
0:07:23 > 0:07:25One robot fights until they're immobilised
0:07:25 > 0:07:28or are tagged in by a team-mate in the corner patrol zone
0:07:28 > 0:07:30where they'll be waiting.
0:07:30 > 0:07:32Teams can tag as many times as they like,
0:07:32 > 0:07:36but only one active robot from each team can fight at any one time.
0:07:36 > 0:07:39These tag-team rounds are three minutes
0:07:39 > 0:07:42and if there's no clear winner, then our judges will adjudicate
0:07:42 > 0:07:44based on control, damage and aggression.
0:07:44 > 0:07:47And those judges are Professor Sethu Vijayakumar,
0:07:47 > 0:07:51Dr Lucy Rogers and head judge Professor Noel Sharkey.
0:07:51 > 0:07:56For our international teams, this arena is definitely not a holiday.
0:07:56 > 0:07:59There's the pit, the fire, the flipper, the spikes,
0:07:59 > 0:08:03the fog of war, and the house robots are all in attendance
0:08:03 > 0:08:06to make things as unpleasant as possible.
0:08:06 > 0:08:09It's time for both these teams to put their international money
0:08:09 > 0:08:13where their international mouths are because it's battle time!
0:08:14 > 0:08:17In the arena for this first tag-team,
0:08:17 > 0:08:20the global ambassador for pain and unpleasantness.
0:08:22 > 0:08:24It's Dead Metal.
0:08:26 > 0:08:30Roboteers, stand by.
0:08:30 > 0:08:33CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
0:08:39 > 0:08:42Three...two...one...
0:08:43 > 0:08:45..activate!
0:08:45 > 0:08:46KLAXON SOUNDS
0:08:46 > 0:08:48Not the quickest, Eruption.
0:08:48 > 0:08:50Relatively inexperienced.
0:08:50 > 0:08:53And immediately getting caught there by the first flip by Eruption.
0:08:53 > 0:08:56If he gets near that lower part of the arena wall it could go out,
0:08:56 > 0:08:57but it's flipped Eruption
0:08:57 > 0:09:00and, momentarily, Eruption couldn't self-right.
0:09:00 > 0:09:02They have done now. Oh, got caught by the floor flipper!
0:09:02 > 0:09:04There's the inexperience of Weber.
0:09:04 > 0:09:07Might need to get in there and tag-team with THE BASH,
0:09:07 > 0:09:10the ode to the old house robot, Sergeant Bash.
0:09:10 > 0:09:13I don't think our house robots have taken very kindly to that,
0:09:13 > 0:09:15by the way.
0:09:15 > 0:09:17Still out there fighting at the moment, Eruption.
0:09:17 > 0:09:21However, there's the tag. So out comes the new BASH.
0:09:21 > 0:09:24Not a patch on Sergeant Bash. No, it is not!
0:09:26 > 0:09:30I don't think they're mobilised at all. I think they're stunned.
0:09:30 > 0:09:33Big Nipper's been tagged and is out there now as well.
0:09:36 > 0:09:39Certainly THE BASH is imperilled.
0:09:43 > 0:09:48Meanwhile, Big Nipper edges BASH into the house robot
0:09:48 > 0:09:53and down comes the horrible, slicing steel of Dead Metal.
0:09:59 > 0:10:04Big Nipper almost helping Weber out there of a dangerous situation.
0:10:04 > 0:10:07Slams it against the arena wall.
0:10:16 > 0:10:20Now, the expansive waste of energy there by Weber,
0:10:20 > 0:10:22trying to get the flipper into use.
0:10:22 > 0:10:25There's a bit of THE BASH littering the arena floor
0:10:25 > 0:10:28and Eruption comes back in.
0:10:28 > 0:10:31The dial of doom has released the house robot.
0:10:32 > 0:10:35There goes the top bit of THE BASH.
0:10:35 > 0:10:37I don't call it a weapon.
0:10:37 > 0:10:40Now, Weber is in real trouble here.
0:10:41 > 0:10:43In amongst the house... Oh, what's happening?
0:10:43 > 0:10:48Eruption is trying to help Weber out of the claws of Dead Metal.
0:10:48 > 0:10:50Well, that is gentlemanly conduct for you.
0:10:57 > 0:11:01We don't want gentlemanliness, if there's such a word, in that arena.
0:11:01 > 0:11:02We want brutality!
0:11:02 > 0:11:04Oh, it's all hands on deck now.
0:11:04 > 0:11:06And that's what we're getting now
0:11:06 > 0:11:10because the two UK robots are out there together.
0:11:12 > 0:11:15And there goes the big flip on Weber.
0:11:15 > 0:11:18But they're both out there now, the two UK robots. What's going on?
0:11:18 > 0:11:20They're now taking on the house robots.
0:11:20 > 0:11:22A bit of showboating going on here.
0:11:22 > 0:11:24They've done the business.
0:11:24 > 0:11:26Oh, wow!
0:11:26 > 0:11:28Well, I think this is showboating.
0:11:28 > 0:11:29I don't think this is necessary.
0:11:29 > 0:11:31It's good fun to watch but, I tell you what,
0:11:31 > 0:11:34the judges might have a word about this, you know.
0:11:34 > 0:11:36This is not in the rules.
0:11:36 > 0:11:37They're having some fun out there.
0:11:41 > 0:11:43They want a piece of Dead Metal.
0:11:43 > 0:11:45House robots never forget
0:11:45 > 0:11:48and he's got a piece of Big Nipper there himself.
0:11:51 > 0:11:53UK, clear winners.
0:11:53 > 0:11:54Oh, that fire!
0:11:54 > 0:11:58Will there be recriminations for the end of the fight, I wonder?
0:12:00 > 0:12:03CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
0:12:03 > 0:12:06I mean, I don't know who won that one.
0:12:06 > 0:12:08Yeah, difficult to call, really.
0:12:08 > 0:12:10That was very good. Well done.
0:12:12 > 0:12:15Good early attack by Eruption, in underneath Weber.
0:12:15 > 0:12:18Bit of inexperience showing there.
0:12:18 > 0:12:20On to the floor flipper
0:12:20 > 0:12:23and each time they come down they can sustain damage,
0:12:23 > 0:12:26rocking and rolling a little bit there.
0:12:26 > 0:12:31Then a big flip...by Eruption.
0:12:31 > 0:12:32Smash for THE BASH.
0:12:32 > 0:12:34Bit of a replica.
0:12:34 > 0:12:37And the house robots didn't like it.
0:12:40 > 0:12:42That's better from Big Nipper,
0:12:42 > 0:12:47making sure that Weber couldn't get back into punitive action.
0:12:47 > 0:12:51All about the UK machines for me here. They were too strong.
0:12:51 > 0:12:54Classy, as ever, from Eruption.
0:12:54 > 0:12:56Good driving by Michael Oates.
0:12:56 > 0:12:58Great flip there on Weber.
0:12:59 > 0:13:03Very nearly in Siberia. Bounced back down.
0:13:06 > 0:13:09But back into the fire of the arena.
0:13:12 > 0:13:14You are a changed man.
0:13:14 > 0:13:15You were getting bored of a battle,
0:13:15 > 0:13:18so you decided to take on the house robots just to keep things lively?
0:13:18 > 0:13:20- Yeah.- Why not?- Exactly.
0:13:20 > 0:13:22Your confidence is at an all-time high.
0:13:22 > 0:13:25It also looked like you were possibly helping him
0:13:25 > 0:13:27when he was in the jaws of Dead Metal.
0:13:27 > 0:13:29Was that intentional?
0:13:29 > 0:13:31Yeah, why not? They've come all the way over here to fight.
0:13:31 > 0:13:32- Give them a good chance.- OK.
0:13:32 > 0:13:35- That sounds like it's a sympathy fight?- No.- No?
0:13:35 > 0:13:37We want to win but, at the same time,
0:13:37 > 0:13:40we want it to be a good, entertaining fight.
0:13:46 > 0:13:49Hello, Rest Of The World Team. How are you?
0:13:49 > 0:13:52- Let me stand in here between you. - Nice to see you.- Good to be here.
0:13:52 > 0:13:55- Can I ask one question?- Yeah. - What was BASH supposed to do?
0:13:55 > 0:14:01- Something.- This thing just came off. It just fell off.- They broke it.
0:14:01 > 0:14:03But is there a weapon on the front of this?
0:14:03 > 0:14:07- It turns and there's a claw. - There's a claw?- Yeah, and spikes.
0:14:07 > 0:14:08- OK.- Hidden spikes.
0:14:08 > 0:14:11- They're very well hidden.- Yes.
0:14:11 > 0:14:14However, the mantle was picked up by our Russian friends here.
0:14:14 > 0:14:16- A good fight.- Thank you. - Yeah, very, very good.
0:14:16 > 0:14:20I like the brutal, pared-down nature of your robot.
0:14:20 > 0:14:24- A couple of clashes as well with Eruption?- Yeah, with Eruption.
0:14:24 > 0:14:27- It was a nice moment when the house robot caught us.- Yeah, absolutely.
0:14:27 > 0:14:29It was fun.
0:14:29 > 0:14:32Listen, this needs to be more active in some way, right?
0:14:32 > 0:14:36- We'll do so.- Good. Release the spikes, that's all I'm saying.
0:14:36 > 0:14:37This one, just keep being brutal, all right?
0:14:37 > 0:14:40Good luck. Get ready. You've got more fights, Rest Of The World.
0:14:40 > 0:14:42- Thank you.- Good stuff.
0:14:44 > 0:14:48That victory gives Team UK first blood and the full three points.
0:14:48 > 0:14:51It's time for the next tag-team battle
0:14:51 > 0:14:53and a chance for the Rest of the World
0:14:53 > 0:14:54to get some points on the board.
0:14:56 > 0:15:00For Team UK, we have Concussion with Thor
0:15:00 > 0:15:03against a Rest Of The World Team starring Terror Turtle
0:15:03 > 0:15:06and team captain Fuzzy with his robot, Cathadh,
0:15:06 > 0:15:10who are here to take down a Robot Wars champion.
0:15:10 > 0:15:15As a driver, Michael is tenacious and deadly and persistent.
0:15:15 > 0:15:18In fact, he holds the record for the number of opponents
0:15:18 > 0:15:22thrown out of the arena, so clearly he's a force to be reckoned with.
0:15:33 > 0:15:35He can put the robot where he wants it to.
0:15:35 > 0:15:36If you flip the robot over,
0:15:36 > 0:15:39he can put it right back on its feet immediately
0:15:39 > 0:15:43and you never get a chance to take a break when he's driving Eruption.
0:15:47 > 0:15:49But we intend to put him on his butt.
0:15:51 > 0:15:54OK, Team Rest Of The World, we're cleaning up.
0:15:54 > 0:15:56We're the second tag team.
0:15:56 > 0:15:59- John, I want you to go in first with Terror Turtle.- OK.
0:15:59 > 0:16:01We're going to tag about every 30 to 40 seconds.
0:16:01 > 0:16:03I want to make sure everybody drives two times,
0:16:03 > 0:16:08and the most important thing is play fair
0:16:08 > 0:16:11- but do what you have to do to win. Are you ready?- Yep.
0:16:11 > 0:16:12OK, everybody, hands in here!
0:16:12 > 0:16:14Team Rest Of The World, yes!
0:16:16 > 0:16:18- So we've got this big, nasty American spinner?- Yeah.
0:16:18 > 0:16:19- We're going to take that out, yeah?- Yeah.
0:16:19 > 0:16:21You've got that horrible entanglement thing
0:16:21 > 0:16:23- that's going to wrap round his bar. - Yeah.
0:16:23 > 0:16:25- You're going to smash him with your drum?- Yeah.- Cool.
0:16:25 > 0:16:28- Terror Turtle, take that on. Put your axe through it.- That's easy.
0:16:28 > 0:16:30We can deal with that.
0:16:30 > 0:16:32We've just got to go after the American spinner, take that out,
0:16:32 > 0:16:34annihilate it.
0:16:34 > 0:16:36- Team UK.- Yeah!
0:16:38 > 0:16:41In the arena for this second international tag-team battle...
0:16:43 > 0:16:48..Shunt, or as the French call him, "Le Garcon de la Robotique Pushing."
0:16:51 > 0:16:53Roboteers, stand by.
0:16:53 > 0:16:58So it's the UK against machines from Canada and the USA here.
0:16:58 > 0:16:59Go, Rest Of The World! Hey!
0:16:59 > 0:17:02Three...two...one...
0:17:03 > 0:17:04..activate!
0:17:04 > 0:17:06Can the Rest Of The World hit back?
0:17:06 > 0:17:10First out is Terror Turtle against Concussion.
0:17:10 > 0:17:12I'm out of it. I'm dead.
0:17:12 > 0:17:14I think Terror Turtle's gone.
0:17:14 > 0:17:17It has, which means that Cathadh is now into the arena
0:17:17 > 0:17:21and it also means that Thor has been tagged and comes in as well.
0:17:24 > 0:17:26Jason, one of the most experienced...
0:17:26 > 0:17:28Oh, Concussion came out!
0:17:28 > 0:17:30Hey!
0:17:30 > 0:17:32Now that's playing a little bit dirty.
0:17:34 > 0:17:37I'm sorry, that is illegal. That's illegal.
0:17:37 > 0:17:38Excuse me, get back in your box.
0:17:38 > 0:17:41Concussion's not allowed to be out there.
0:17:41 > 0:17:43Go on, back into the CPZ now.
0:17:45 > 0:17:46That was a big naughty.
0:17:47 > 0:17:51- I'm dead.- No, no, no, you can push. Come on.
0:17:52 > 0:17:54Oh, my God, you're dead?
0:17:55 > 0:17:57You can't push!
0:17:58 > 0:18:00Oh!
0:18:00 > 0:18:02What the hell?
0:18:02 > 0:18:06Cathadh, the weaponry is bent, the spinning blade.
0:18:06 > 0:18:11Well, I don't think Concussion there played by the rules at all.
0:18:12 > 0:18:14We hit it so hard.
0:18:16 > 0:18:19Well, well, well, this is controversial.
0:18:19 > 0:18:23That's when Terror Turtle went over.
0:18:23 > 0:18:25It was a good attack by Concussion.
0:18:25 > 0:18:28That's the end of Terror Turtle.
0:18:28 > 0:18:31Once they were over, they couldn't self-right
0:18:31 > 0:18:34and Thor came out, hammering into Cathadh.
0:18:34 > 0:18:37The weapon still spinning. Bit buckled.
0:18:37 > 0:18:39Thor came down again with a mighty axe,
0:18:39 > 0:18:42but this was the moment here that was unseemly.
0:18:44 > 0:18:48Bit of a naughty attack there by Concussion.
0:18:48 > 0:18:50And the Rest Of The World
0:18:50 > 0:18:53will be spitting nuts, bolts and feathers about this.
0:18:53 > 0:18:56ANGELA: The battle over and the Rest Of The World
0:18:56 > 0:18:59are upset with some foul play in the arena.
0:18:59 > 0:19:01Do we have a genuine objection here?
0:19:01 > 0:19:04- Is there controversy? - Seriously, yes, I was double teamed.
0:19:04 > 0:19:09In a tag-team match, you are not allowed to have two opponents
0:19:09 > 0:19:12- attack at the same time.- We're still inexperienced.- Inexperienced?
0:19:12 > 0:19:15You can charging in with your big drum spinning.
0:19:15 > 0:19:19- Admittedly, your belt was off at that point.- But I was still driving.
0:19:19 > 0:19:22- You were still driving, I'll give you that.- AND I was not upside down.
0:19:22 > 0:19:25- No, you were not.- When he flipped me, that disabled me.
0:19:25 > 0:19:28So one guy took out my weapon, one guy took out my drive,
0:19:28 > 0:19:30but I think I have a legitimate complaint.
0:19:30 > 0:19:31I think you may have a legitimate complaint.
0:19:31 > 0:19:35Certainly, I think I speak for my co-host, who is livid...
0:19:35 > 0:19:37I think we have a shot of her looking livid.
0:19:37 > 0:19:39I was absolutely raging.
0:19:39 > 0:19:41I'm with you on this.
0:19:41 > 0:19:43Here he is. Here he is.
0:19:43 > 0:19:45We're trying to organise a sport here.
0:19:45 > 0:19:47We can't just go willy-nilly launching in
0:19:47 > 0:19:50- with our drum-spinners whenever the mood strikes us, right?- No.
0:19:50 > 0:19:52Are you willing to hand over the points
0:19:52 > 0:19:54- because of this disgraceful behaviour?- Disgraceful.
0:19:54 > 0:19:55Yeah, I think let's even up the score.
0:19:55 > 0:19:59- Let's go into the head-to-head with a clean slate.- Fabulous.- Good man.
0:19:59 > 0:20:02Very, very good. Calmer heads prevailed.
0:20:06 > 0:20:09And now the decision has been made by the powers-that-be, ie me,
0:20:09 > 0:20:10that you deserve those points
0:20:10 > 0:20:13cos they were robbed from you, it's actually quite an even battle
0:20:13 > 0:20:16- and this is a robot they're scared of.- And rightly so.
0:20:16 > 0:20:18I did a little bit of damage.
0:20:18 > 0:20:20I wish I'd gotten a chance to hit Concussion,
0:20:20 > 0:20:22but I won't get that chance this year.
0:20:25 > 0:20:29Captain Fuzzy made his fortune creating the search engine Lycos
0:20:29 > 0:20:33but rather than spending it on a luxury yacht, he spent it on this.
0:20:35 > 0:20:39On my mark, three, two, one...fight!
0:20:41 > 0:20:43Robot Club and Grill.
0:20:43 > 0:20:46- Bulletproof glass around the edges? - Bulletproof glass around the edges
0:20:46 > 0:20:49and on two sides there were the paying customers,
0:20:49 > 0:20:52sitting there eating their burgers, watching fights.
0:20:52 > 0:20:55One side was the bleachers and then the back side was for the pits.
0:20:55 > 0:20:57And it was heaven on earth.
0:20:57 > 0:21:01It was really wonderful because all of my friends came to me
0:21:01 > 0:21:04to fight their robots, and we had a fine restaurant.
0:21:04 > 0:21:07You could tell the waitress what you wanted
0:21:07 > 0:21:09and they'd go bring your food directly to the table.
0:21:09 > 0:21:12- You never had to leave your robot. - That's wonderful.
0:21:12 > 0:21:14It was, but we only had it for a year.
0:21:14 > 0:21:20- It was a really, really good idea in my heart.- Right.
0:21:20 > 0:21:23- It wasn't such a great idea in my pocket.- OK.
0:21:23 > 0:21:26How often did you do the fights? How often were they held?
0:21:26 > 0:21:30- We had six events. We held it every six weeks.- Right.
0:21:30 > 0:21:33- And those nights were packed? - Absolutely. We had hundreds.
0:21:33 > 0:21:36We had people from all over, from Mexico, from Canada.
0:21:36 > 0:21:39They all came to Pittsburgh to fight their robots.
0:21:39 > 0:21:42It was a glorious time, but in the end,
0:21:42 > 0:21:47I couldn't justify shelling out good money after bad, as they say.
0:21:47 > 0:21:50For the five-and-a-half weeks when there were no robots fighting...
0:21:50 > 0:21:52That's the problem.
0:21:52 > 0:21:56See, if I'd have gone to any advisor they'd have said I shouldn't do it.
0:21:56 > 0:21:58This is a restaurant which will only be full once every six weeks?
0:21:58 > 0:22:02- That's right.- We'll have a theme that isn't catered to in any way
0:22:02 > 0:22:04and 24-feet-by-24-feet of the floor space is taken up
0:22:04 > 0:22:08- with a robot fighting arena that you can't put tables on to?- Precisely.
0:22:08 > 0:22:11Do you know what? I don't think you have to be a business genius to go,
0:22:11 > 0:22:14- "This is a crazy idea."- The good thing was that, because we did that,
0:22:14 > 0:22:17when we closed we gave away two... We had three arenas.
0:22:17 > 0:22:21We gave away the two largest. I kept the smallest one for my shop.
0:22:21 > 0:22:23Those arenas went on to spawn other events
0:22:23 > 0:22:27in other states of the United States, including one in California
0:22:27 > 0:22:29where I go regularly now to fight.
0:22:29 > 0:22:34So, it was good for the sport. I did my part. It's like a relay race.
0:22:34 > 0:22:39I carried my baton for a little bit and passed it on to the next guy,
0:22:39 > 0:22:42and we helped keep robot fighting alive in the United States.
0:22:43 > 0:22:46With the scores tied after the tag-team battles,
0:22:46 > 0:22:48we're now on to the head-to-heads.
0:22:48 > 0:22:51Each head-to-head will see a Team UK robot
0:22:51 > 0:22:54challenged by a member of the Rest Of The World Team.
0:22:54 > 0:22:56Our first head-to-head is UK's Thor
0:22:56 > 0:22:58against Team BASH from the Netherlands,
0:22:58 > 0:23:00who are in a spot of bother.
0:23:05 > 0:23:09Rumour has it that THE BASH has been bashed to bits. Is it dead?
0:23:09 > 0:23:13- Dead. Everything's broken. - Really? What happened?
0:23:13 > 0:23:17I'm not sure. I was counting on Dead Metal to protect me.
0:23:17 > 0:23:20- Oh, yeah, no, not a good idea. - He attacked me.
0:23:20 > 0:23:22So much damage.
0:23:22 > 0:23:24It's beyond repair.
0:23:24 > 0:23:26We brought a backup. Remember this?
0:23:26 > 0:23:27It looks familiar. There's nails.
0:23:27 > 0:23:31- Is it Tough As Nails? - It's Tough As Nails.
0:23:31 > 0:23:33Oh, it's bigger, is it?
0:23:33 > 0:23:34It feels bigger.
0:23:34 > 0:23:37- Yeah, it's a little bit bigger.- OK.
0:23:37 > 0:23:39So Tough As Nails is back?
0:23:39 > 0:23:42We've seen Tough As Nails before, of course.
0:23:42 > 0:23:44Tough As Nails.
0:23:47 > 0:23:50Tonight, we'll be fighting Thor.
0:23:50 > 0:23:53Well, Thor and I, we go way back.
0:23:54 > 0:23:58A few series ago, I was in a team called Tough As Nails.
0:23:58 > 0:24:01We had a crusher robot. In a group battle, Thor took us out.
0:24:04 > 0:24:07Is this the end for the team that has come a long way
0:24:07 > 0:24:10to be here from the Netherlands?
0:24:10 > 0:24:11They looks forlorn.
0:24:11 > 0:24:16They've competed all over Europe in amateur robot competitions.
0:24:16 > 0:24:18They're about to go double Dutch.
0:24:18 > 0:24:21Yes, the second team in the pitch.
0:24:21 > 0:24:22Over and out!
0:24:22 > 0:24:25We want revenge for that.
0:24:27 > 0:24:30- You seem very calm. Calm?- We are now.
0:24:30 > 0:24:33Yeah, you are now that you've subbed in... Ow!
0:24:35 > 0:24:37It's very large. OK, good luck.
0:24:37 > 0:24:39Good luck. Good luck.
0:24:41 > 0:24:43This last-minute change from the Netherlands
0:24:43 > 0:24:48has turned an international friendly into a global grudge match.
0:24:48 > 0:24:51- Jason, so you're against Tough As Nails?- Yeah.
0:24:51 > 0:24:53You've gone up against them before.
0:24:53 > 0:24:55Yeah, we knocked them out in Series One.
0:24:55 > 0:24:58- They remember that.- Yeah.- They're a little bit delicate about that.
0:24:58 > 0:25:01- They are. They want revenge, yes. - They're angry.- Yeah.
0:25:01 > 0:25:03- It's going to be a tough fight. - Do you reckon?- Yeah, it will be.
0:25:03 > 0:25:06You've done it before. You know their weaknesses.
0:25:06 > 0:25:11Yeah, I think I can do it, but Thor's a little tired at the minute.
0:25:11 > 0:25:13It's been a long old time for him, hasn't it?
0:25:13 > 0:25:16- OK, right. But you reckon you can do it?- Yes.- Yeah?
0:25:16 > 0:25:21- OK, do you think the UK can win this?- Easy.
0:25:21 > 0:25:24- Easy, easy! Right, go on, get in there.- Cheers. See you later.
0:25:30 > 0:25:34This Norse god now boasts five interchangeable hammers
0:25:34 > 0:25:37and can swing twice as fast as previously.
0:25:37 > 0:25:39Known for running rings around its opponents,
0:25:39 > 0:25:41the machine is still one of the fastest robots in the competition
0:25:41 > 0:25:45and can even pull a two-tonne van with its powerful drive system.
0:25:45 > 0:25:47The builder from Northampton is once again
0:25:47 > 0:25:49the lone wolf of the competition.
0:25:49 > 0:25:52Thor has been a part of Jason's life for 13 years now.
0:25:52 > 0:25:54He even considers it a part of him.
0:25:54 > 0:25:56Aww!
0:25:57 > 0:26:00Tough As Nails from the Netherlands is a pneumatic crusher bot
0:26:00 > 0:26:01with 200 kilos of crush.
0:26:01 > 0:26:05It has enough drive power to pull a forklift truck
0:26:05 > 0:26:07and is made of hardened steel.
0:26:07 > 0:26:10Jeroen from the Netherlands is a motorway security engineer
0:26:10 > 0:26:13and full-time Robot Wars superfan.
0:26:13 > 0:26:15He's entered events in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK
0:26:15 > 0:26:17and when he's not building robots,
0:26:17 > 0:26:21he likes to give tutorials about how to build them online.
0:26:21 > 0:26:23Team Rest Of The World really needs to pull out a win here
0:26:23 > 0:26:25so, come on, let's go.
0:26:25 > 0:26:27- Yes!- Go!
0:26:27 > 0:26:29Get out. Let's go.
0:26:30 > 0:26:33Jason has prior experience with eliminating this team
0:26:33 > 0:26:36from the competition, knocking out their robot, Tough As Nails,
0:26:36 > 0:26:39in Series One. Tougher than fingernails maybe,
0:26:39 > 0:26:41but no match for Thor's mighty hammer.
0:26:43 > 0:26:46In the arena for this international head-to-head...
0:26:47 > 0:26:49..it's Matilda.
0:26:49 > 0:26:53And how he got that titanium axe through customs, I'll never know.
0:26:53 > 0:26:54It's Shunt.
0:26:56 > 0:26:59Roboteers, stand by.
0:26:59 > 0:27:01There's the UK team captain, Michael,
0:27:01 > 0:27:03and a smiling Jason behind him.
0:27:03 > 0:27:07A little bit of a surprise up his sleeve here, Jason, he tells me.
0:27:07 > 0:27:11Three...two...one...
0:27:12 > 0:27:13..activate!
0:27:13 > 0:27:14KLAXON SOUNDS
0:27:14 > 0:27:17There he is, on to the flame pit, and there's the surprise -
0:27:17 > 0:27:19a wraparound of Diotoir fur.
0:27:19 > 0:27:21That's amazing.
0:27:21 > 0:27:25He now has a flaming axe as his weaponry.
0:27:25 > 0:27:28Tough As Nails, an improvement on BASH,
0:27:28 > 0:27:30will try and pinch Thor.
0:27:32 > 0:27:35Thor using the two-wheel drive to get underneath Tough As Nails.
0:27:35 > 0:27:38Ooh, Tough As Nails reversing on to the dial.
0:27:38 > 0:27:40We have fog of war.
0:27:40 > 0:27:41Can confuse.
0:27:41 > 0:27:45Can allow a team to run away, find a good position in the gloom.
0:27:46 > 0:27:48Tough As Nails did that.
0:27:51 > 0:27:53They need to avoid Thor going in underneath,
0:27:53 > 0:27:56otherwise that will negate the pinching weapon.
0:27:56 > 0:28:00Good control here by Jason. One-man army.
0:28:00 > 0:28:02He knows that Thor is...
0:28:03 > 0:28:06..nearing the end of its life as a competitive robot.
0:28:06 > 0:28:10He needs to make improvements for the UK Championships.
0:28:11 > 0:28:13Dodging away, and in underneath Tough As Nails.
0:28:13 > 0:28:18Tell you what, this is a willing battle by the Dutch team.
0:28:18 > 0:28:20They're coming out here all guns blazing
0:28:20 > 0:28:23and having a real go at Thor.
0:28:23 > 0:28:25Little bit close to Shunt in the CPZ.
0:28:25 > 0:28:30Steered away, beyond the floor spikes.
0:28:30 > 0:28:34Haven't seen them yet come into play in this international heat.
0:28:34 > 0:28:37Good hit by the Thor hammer.
0:28:37 > 0:28:40But Tough As Nails still doing a good job, releases the dial.
0:28:40 > 0:28:43Out comes a house robot. It's Shunt.
0:28:43 > 0:28:47Down comes the weaponry of Shunt.
0:28:50 > 0:28:51Thor in trouble.
0:28:51 > 0:28:53Jason needs to self-right - has he got enough CO2 left?
0:28:53 > 0:28:56Yes, he has. Speeds away.
0:28:56 > 0:28:59Again, Tough As Nails, that frontal assault.
0:28:59 > 0:29:02Bit limited in design and technology.
0:29:02 > 0:29:04Can Thor get him over that low part of the arena wall?
0:29:04 > 0:29:06That's what he wants to do.
0:29:08 > 0:29:10They get away to the CPZ.
0:29:11 > 0:29:14A bit of a side-on shunt from Thor.
0:29:16 > 0:29:19Doing well to last in there. This is a good fight.
0:29:19 > 0:29:21May well go the distance.
0:29:21 > 0:29:24Can Thor land a knockout blow?
0:29:24 > 0:29:26Will Shunt come into play?
0:29:26 > 0:29:29Tough As Nails steering away.
0:29:29 > 0:29:33Good work here by the Tough As Nails team from the Netherlands.
0:29:33 > 0:29:35Doing a good job for their country and their team.
0:29:35 > 0:29:37Riding piggyback. Up on...
0:29:37 > 0:29:40Thought they had a chance there actually to buckle Thor's weaponry.
0:29:40 > 0:29:43They just couldn't get the grippers together,
0:29:43 > 0:29:48the crushing weapon, in time, to bend that axe weapon out of shape.
0:29:48 > 0:29:50Miss by Thor with the weaponry there.
0:29:52 > 0:29:56Jeroen van der Loo looking on, the Tough As Nails captain.
0:29:56 > 0:29:58Ooh, I thought they were immobilised. They're not.
0:29:58 > 0:30:01Dance away. Good one, this, isn't it?
0:30:02 > 0:30:04May not be "wham, bam, thank you, ma'am,"
0:30:04 > 0:30:09smash and crash, but Tough As Nails living up to the name.
0:30:09 > 0:30:11They are tough as nails.
0:30:14 > 0:30:17- ISETHU:- It is tough as nails. - It really is just tough as nails.
0:30:17 > 0:30:20It's tougher than nails, actually, isn't it?
0:30:20 > 0:30:22Nails would be broken by now.
0:30:24 > 0:30:26Crash, but they cannot get through
0:30:26 > 0:30:28that high-strength, hardened steel armament.
0:30:28 > 0:30:31KLAXON It goes to the judges.
0:30:31 > 0:30:32- CHEERING - Well done.
0:30:32 > 0:30:33Good luck with that thing.
0:30:35 > 0:30:39Even Matilda pirouetting there with glee. She appreciated that fight.
0:30:39 > 0:30:42Lovely touch, the flaming fur of Diotoir.
0:30:42 > 0:30:43A bit of fun.
0:30:43 > 0:30:46A bit of axing and slicing and dicing.
0:30:46 > 0:30:48Yes, they got a blow in on Tough As Nails.
0:30:48 > 0:30:51Several times, they had Thor in that position
0:30:51 > 0:30:55and they couldn't crush Jason's axe.
0:30:55 > 0:30:58Now comes the axe of Shunt as Tough As Nails got in there.
0:30:58 > 0:31:01The judges will be marking all this, of course.
0:31:01 > 0:31:03Thor the aggressor.
0:31:03 > 0:31:05Tough As Nails, good control.
0:31:05 > 0:31:09Big smash-down there, on the top of Thor, from Shunt.
0:31:09 > 0:31:11Ooh, this could be closer than we thought.
0:31:11 > 0:31:15Has Tough As Nails done enough to get a famous victory?
0:31:15 > 0:31:17Let's see.
0:31:17 > 0:31:18APPLAUSE
0:31:18 > 0:31:20Let's have a look at this.
0:31:22 > 0:31:25It took a couple of thumps there, Thor.
0:31:25 > 0:31:28- But you never really got the full hug on him, did you?- No, no.
0:31:28 > 0:31:31His new design, we couldn't get really hold of him.
0:31:31 > 0:31:33Only from the back, but he wouldn't let us.
0:31:33 > 0:31:35No, because at the front you kept mounting up him.
0:31:35 > 0:31:37You really needed to... And he's too fast.
0:31:37 > 0:31:41- He's too fast, yeah.- He's too fast. It's a fearsome-looking thing.
0:31:41 > 0:31:44But deeply ineffective in certain situations.
0:31:44 > 0:31:45- Yeah.- Like this fight!
0:31:45 > 0:31:47- But, still, scary-looking.- Yeah.
0:31:47 > 0:31:50So there's bonus points for that, I hope.
0:31:50 > 0:31:52There was no definite winner.
0:31:52 > 0:31:53So it had to go to an adjudication.
0:31:53 > 0:31:56The two points and the victory...
0:31:57 > 0:31:59..go to Thor and Team UK!
0:31:59 > 0:32:01CHEERING
0:32:01 > 0:32:05My commiserations. It was a good fight and you fought well.
0:32:05 > 0:32:07Michael, congratulations.
0:32:07 > 0:32:09That brings you to 5 points to 3. Happy with how it's going?
0:32:09 > 0:32:11Yeah. Jason smashed that one.
0:32:11 > 0:32:14That was brilliant. We've just got to keep on going like that.
0:32:14 > 0:32:15And, hopefully, a Team UK victory.
0:32:15 > 0:32:18OK, fine. Listen, let's get out of here and get another fight in.
0:32:18 > 0:32:20Give them a round of applause, ladies and gentlemen!
0:32:20 > 0:32:24CHEERING
0:32:25 > 0:32:28With two points to Thor, Team UK are on five.
0:32:28 > 0:32:30Rest Of The World on three.
0:32:31 > 0:32:34With a total of eight points still up for grabs,
0:32:34 > 0:32:36the challengers can steal a victory.
0:32:40 > 0:32:43The next head-to-head sees the UK's Big Nipper
0:32:43 > 0:32:46against the Rest Of The World's Terror Turtle.
0:32:48 > 0:32:52The Big Nipper team are just superb engineers and mechanics.
0:32:52 > 0:32:53They're toolmakers.
0:32:53 > 0:32:55They have access to a lot of good equipment
0:32:55 > 0:32:58and, more importantly, they have the skills to use it
0:32:58 > 0:33:01and the imagination to use it in ways that others haven't thought of.
0:33:01 > 0:33:03It's an honour to fight them, really.
0:33:04 > 0:33:07COMMENTATOR: Terror Turtle is a recycled robot
0:33:07 > 0:33:08with parts of old car axles
0:33:08 > 0:33:11used on its super-scary nine-kilo spinning disc.
0:33:11 > 0:33:14It can also run with a cluster bot called The Hatchling,
0:33:14 > 0:33:16which is used to immobilise opponents
0:33:16 > 0:33:19while the terrifying reptile robot gets its disc up to speed.
0:33:19 > 0:33:21Team captain John Frizell
0:33:21 > 0:33:23was the international director of Greenpeace.
0:33:23 > 0:33:26Hailing from Canada, he enjoys acting, singing
0:33:26 > 0:33:30and making robots including a remote trick-or-treat robot.
0:33:30 > 0:33:31Strange man.
0:33:32 > 0:33:36- So, John, is Terror Turtle ready? - He is ready to go.
0:33:36 > 0:33:38OK, I want you to take a bite out of the Big Nipper.
0:33:38 > 0:33:40We really need a win, Team Rest Of The World.
0:33:40 > 0:33:43- Come on!- All right. - Let's go. Let's go.
0:33:47 > 0:33:50Big Nipper is a titanium-armoured gripperbot.
0:33:50 > 0:33:53It also has an interchangeable 20-kilo spinning disc weapon.
0:33:53 > 0:33:56It has the toughest armour in the competition,
0:33:56 > 0:33:59which can deflect attacks from robots like Aftershock and Carbide.
0:33:59 > 0:34:00Team captain Graeme isn't worried
0:34:00 > 0:34:03about his head-to-head with Terror Turtle -
0:34:03 > 0:34:06he's planning to remove its recycled fibreglass shell
0:34:06 > 0:34:09with their titanium crushing jaws.
0:34:10 > 0:34:12- So you guys have got Terror Turtle next.- Yeah.
0:34:12 > 0:34:14Should be fairly OK, I would have thought.
0:34:14 > 0:34:17I don't know, it's got a nasty spinner on the front of it.
0:34:17 > 0:34:19No, you'll be fine. You'll be fine. Open those jaws up,
0:34:19 > 0:34:20drive in, crush it.
0:34:20 > 0:34:24- You can lift it up, take it to the house robots.- Yeah.
0:34:24 > 0:34:26- Tear it apart. Yeah?- Yeah. Will do.
0:34:27 > 0:34:29- See you in a bit.- See you later.
0:34:31 > 0:34:33Terror Turtle challenging Big Nipper.
0:34:33 > 0:34:35Two very different robots -
0:34:35 > 0:34:38the cutting-edge titanium armour of Big Nipper
0:34:38 > 0:34:41up against the recycled and reclaimed Terror Turtle.
0:34:43 > 0:34:44In the arena for this fight,
0:34:44 > 0:34:47the only time he gets out of the country is to visit The Hague.
0:34:50 > 0:34:52It's Sir Killalot.
0:34:52 > 0:34:58She'll flip you so far you'll need a visa to get back in.
0:34:58 > 0:34:59It's Matilda.
0:34:59 > 0:35:01It's battle time.
0:35:03 > 0:35:06Roboteers, stand by.
0:35:09 > 0:35:13Three...two...one....
0:35:14 > 0:35:15..activate.
0:35:15 > 0:35:18John Frizell of Terror Turtle says his best chance
0:35:18 > 0:35:20is to feed Big Nipper to a house robot.
0:35:20 > 0:35:21Left a bit.
0:35:21 > 0:35:23Is he dragging Big Nipper, there, towards Matilda?
0:35:23 > 0:35:24Not that much!
0:35:24 > 0:35:25Or is Big Nipper shoving...
0:35:25 > 0:35:27Oh, goodness me!
0:35:27 > 0:35:29Oh, look! Big Nipper is on fire!
0:35:29 > 0:35:30No!
0:35:30 > 0:35:33Terror Turtle's been done to pieces, to be honest,
0:35:33 > 0:35:35but what's happening to Big Nipper?
0:35:35 > 0:35:39I think the four packs of lithium polymer batteries could be on fire!
0:35:41 > 0:35:45Flames, spouting great gouts of flames, there.
0:35:45 > 0:35:48John Frizell said his best chance was to feed Big Nipper
0:35:48 > 0:35:50to a house robot, and that's what's happened!
0:35:50 > 0:35:56Big Nipper on fire and that gets a little bit of a flip from Matilda.
0:35:58 > 0:36:00Terror Turtle's on its side.
0:36:00 > 0:36:02That's amazing - we weren't expecting that.
0:36:02 > 0:36:04Although John will try and self-right,
0:36:04 > 0:36:06I don't think we're going to see much movement from Terror Turtle
0:36:06 > 0:36:08unless Matilda helps out.
0:36:08 > 0:36:10But how much damage has been sustained by Big Nipper?
0:36:10 > 0:36:12Smoke, fire.
0:36:13 > 0:36:19Something's been caught on fire in the machinery of Big Nipper.
0:36:19 > 0:36:22John gets a helping hand from Matilda to self-right.
0:36:22 > 0:36:23I think Terror Turtle are done.
0:36:25 > 0:36:28THEY CHUCKLE
0:36:28 > 0:36:29You can see the front blade
0:36:29 > 0:36:32underneath Terror Turtle's mouth, there.
0:36:32 > 0:36:34The spinning bar. Rotating...
0:36:35 > 0:36:38I think they're gone.
0:36:38 > 0:36:41It's going to be a victory for the UK, but at what cost Big Nipper?
0:36:41 > 0:36:42At what cost?
0:36:42 > 0:36:45- At least it put itself out. - No idea what happened there.
0:36:45 > 0:36:46The weapon was still running.
0:36:46 > 0:36:47That was...
0:36:47 > 0:36:49Hmm.
0:36:49 > 0:36:50..interesting!
0:36:50 > 0:36:53I was thinking that when Big Nipper caught fire,
0:36:53 > 0:36:55that it would stop working.
0:36:55 > 0:36:58At that point, if Terror Turtle had moved a bit...
0:36:58 > 0:37:01- Mm-hm.- That's right, yes. - ..that would have won it.
0:37:01 > 0:37:04But they didn't move it a quarter of an inch. It was dead. Dead.
0:37:04 > 0:37:06That's twice it's died on us.
0:37:06 > 0:37:07- Terror Turtle?- Yeah.- Yeah.
0:37:08 > 0:37:11First attack from Big Nipper really did it.
0:37:11 > 0:37:12Good balance.
0:37:12 > 0:37:16Wedging in the weaponry, the prongs there underneath,
0:37:16 > 0:37:19crusher, grabber weapon... But took a hit from Matilda's flywheel
0:37:19 > 0:37:22and that's where the trouble started.
0:37:23 > 0:37:26Set alight on that left-hand wheel area.
0:37:26 > 0:37:29Terror Turtle was over and done with by now.
0:37:31 > 0:37:33What damage has that caused to Big Nipper?
0:37:33 > 0:37:35They've won the fight, three points for the UK.
0:37:38 > 0:37:41That's, presumably, not how you saw that ending?
0:37:41 > 0:37:45That was quite a close one. No, we weren't...hoping for a fire.
0:37:45 > 0:37:47- I bet you weren't. - No, that's not generally the plan.
0:37:47 > 0:37:51- How are you feeling about it all, Fuzzy?- Well, I had high hopes.
0:37:51 > 0:37:55As soon as I saw that Nipper was on fire,
0:37:55 > 0:37:57- I was feeling great for the Turtle. - "We're in."
0:37:57 > 0:38:01And I'm like, "Just keep moving, keep moving. Come on! Keep moving!"
0:38:01 > 0:38:03And then... And it wasn't to be.
0:38:03 > 0:38:07I mean, no... You know, hey, this is a marathon, not a sprint.
0:38:07 > 0:38:09- Yep.- These things take a lot of damage
0:38:09 > 0:38:12and it starts to show after a while.
0:38:12 > 0:38:13Yeah, it does. It does.
0:38:13 > 0:38:16The UK team are on 8.
0:38:16 > 0:38:18Rest Of The World on 3.
0:38:18 > 0:38:21It is still possible, but the pressure is starting to mount now.
0:38:21 > 0:38:23Because of the extra points,
0:38:23 > 0:38:26I'm sure it all comes down to the captains' battle.
0:38:26 > 0:38:29Michael smiles, he looks innocent.
0:38:29 > 0:38:30But he's absolutely ruthless.
0:38:30 > 0:38:33I'm expecting to have to really battle...
0:38:33 > 0:38:34- Yeah.- ..to win it, to pull it out.
0:38:34 > 0:38:37I think you will. Well, look, I hope neither of you go up in flames.
0:38:37 > 0:38:40- That's going to be a plus, right? - That would be nice.- OK, good luck.
0:38:42 > 0:38:45So Team UK are in the lead with 8 points.
0:38:45 > 0:38:47Rest Of The World are on 3.
0:38:48 > 0:38:51But can they snatch victory from the jaws of defeat?
0:38:58 > 0:39:00This has been Terror Turtle's final fight.
0:39:00 > 0:39:03The kind of robot he's fighting with now
0:39:03 > 0:39:05are much more powerful and much tougher.
0:39:05 > 0:39:07This is the kind of thing that happens
0:39:07 > 0:39:09with a modern machine hitting your arm.
0:39:09 > 0:39:11So, Terror Turtle...
0:39:12 > 0:39:13..have a good retirement.
0:39:15 > 0:39:18As we say bye-bye to one generation of robots,
0:39:18 > 0:39:22Dara welcomed in the new age of wearable robots with George Sethu.
0:39:25 > 0:39:29Sethu, I've spoken to you before about your work in humanoid robots.
0:39:29 > 0:39:31But you also work with wearable technology.
0:39:31 > 0:39:32That's correct.
0:39:32 > 0:39:35So these days, the new kinds of robots coming into the market,
0:39:35 > 0:39:37which are things that you wear.
0:39:37 > 0:39:41So they're used for various things like exoskeletons
0:39:41 > 0:39:44for helping the aged and infirm.
0:39:44 > 0:39:47They can also be used as prosthetics for people who have lost a limb,
0:39:47 > 0:39:49either upper limb or lower limb.
0:39:49 > 0:39:52And, funnily enough, you can also use exoskeletons for healthy people.
0:39:52 > 0:39:55For example, if you wanted to walk up a slope
0:39:55 > 0:39:57and you wanted a little bit of assistance,
0:39:57 > 0:40:00or you wanted to become superhuman and lift heavier weights...
0:40:00 > 0:40:03OK, so you have me here within this exoskeleton.
0:40:03 > 0:40:05And my image in the head is the film Aliens, by the way.
0:40:05 > 0:40:07- For this.- Yep, yep, yep.- Right.
0:40:07 > 0:40:10How...? Am I controlling it? Is its intelligence controlling it?
0:40:10 > 0:40:15So, effectively, it's a symbiosis between the human and the machine.
0:40:15 > 0:40:19So you use human bio-signals to drive the actual device.
0:40:19 > 0:40:21So I would send a signal to my brain,
0:40:21 > 0:40:23"I want to walk up these steps."
0:40:23 > 0:40:26- But the robot has to know itself how to do steps?- Exactly.
0:40:26 > 0:40:28So it has to become more intelligent
0:40:28 > 0:40:30by learning from data, from experience.
0:40:30 > 0:40:33And it has to be connected to the other devices
0:40:33 > 0:40:36to be able to figure out what is the next best thing to do.
0:40:36 > 0:40:40So it has to really use the experience to improve its behaviour.
0:40:40 > 0:40:43So essentially, it's a Wi-Fi linked set of legs
0:40:43 > 0:40:45- that you're planning to give me here?- That's correct.
0:40:45 > 0:40:48It's great to have devices which are connected
0:40:48 > 0:40:51because it improves its abilities to do things better.
0:40:51 > 0:40:55At the same time, it opens the dangers of being hacked into.
0:40:55 > 0:40:56So, for example,
0:40:56 > 0:40:59I could use a cellphone with a Bluetooth connection
0:40:59 > 0:41:01to hack into a prosthetic device
0:41:01 > 0:41:03and control something that you're wearing.
0:41:03 > 0:41:06Probably make you sign a million-dollar cheque, for example.
0:41:06 > 0:41:09This was Aliens and now it's Wallis and Gromit, all right?
0:41:09 > 0:41:10LAUGHTER
0:41:10 > 0:41:12How do I protect myself against this?
0:41:12 > 0:41:14So I think the technology is exactly the same.
0:41:14 > 0:41:16Whether you're you using an internet,
0:41:16 > 0:41:18whether you're using a mobile phone,
0:41:18 > 0:41:19whether you're using driverless cars,
0:41:19 > 0:41:23you will need exactly the same security technologies underlying it
0:41:23 > 0:41:27to make sure that you don't get a ransomware attack
0:41:27 > 0:41:28like you've seen recently.
0:41:28 > 0:41:30Lovely stuff. Very, very good.
0:41:32 > 0:41:35Next, from Russia with love is Team Weber,
0:41:35 > 0:41:38as they go head-to-head with the UK's Concussion.
0:41:41 > 0:41:44Although his Russian comrades have only been building robots
0:41:44 > 0:41:47for two years, he has a wealth of experience from his job,
0:41:47 > 0:41:49which is truly out of this world.
0:41:51 > 0:41:53As for my day job, I work in the space industry.
0:41:53 > 0:41:55I am the launch project manager,
0:41:55 > 0:41:58and my daily job is to help launch satellites in space.
0:42:00 > 0:42:02- So where in Russia are you from? - From Moscow, all of us.
0:42:02 > 0:42:04Moscow, OK. So you're used to...
0:42:04 > 0:42:06- Yeah.- ..minuses.
0:42:06 > 0:42:09- Yeah.- Like, what's the...? I've never been.
0:42:09 > 0:42:11Like, -23 in winter.
0:42:11 > 0:42:13"Like, -23"?
0:42:13 > 0:42:16- OK, so this is like balmy paradise? - Yes.
0:42:16 > 0:42:20- OK. And so would this robot work in those conditions?- Yes.
0:42:20 > 0:42:22Cos a lot of our flippers have problems...
0:42:22 > 0:42:25- They have problems with a freezing valve.- Yes.- We know.
0:42:25 > 0:42:28And we specially designed our valve and pushing cylinder
0:42:28 > 0:42:30so that we can survive minus temperatures.
0:42:30 > 0:42:33In fact, we have tested it in -25 outside.
0:42:33 > 0:42:36- Right!- With a full tank, no problems at all.
0:42:36 > 0:42:39- It likes the cold.- Yeah. - OK...- Because it's Russian!
0:42:39 > 0:42:41Cos it's Russian, it likes the cold!
0:42:41 > 0:42:43Is the robot community big in Moscow?
0:42:43 > 0:42:45It is only starting to grow
0:42:45 > 0:42:47- because we have only two years of experience.- OK.
0:42:47 > 0:42:50But thanks to Robot Wars
0:42:50 > 0:42:54and all the teams from UK which came to games in Russia,
0:42:54 > 0:42:56we've had a huge experience
0:42:56 > 0:42:58and, actually, we are here only because of you guys.
0:42:58 > 0:43:01Because you showed me, you showed us, actually,
0:43:01 > 0:43:04how to prepare and build a proper robot.
0:43:07 > 0:43:11UK has a huge experience in Robot Wars,
0:43:11 > 0:43:13like for 20 years or even more.
0:43:13 > 0:43:19And we as well understand that to be able to compete with UK robots,
0:43:19 > 0:43:21we have to move fast and develop fast.
0:43:21 > 0:43:24So that's why we're doing that.
0:43:24 > 0:43:26It's kind of a challenge for us.
0:43:26 > 0:43:28- Good luck.- Thanks.- What would...?
0:43:28 > 0:43:30- How do you say "good luck" in...Russian?- Udachi.
0:43:30 > 0:43:33- Udachi. Udachi.- Thank you. - Udachi.- Spasibo.- Udachi.
0:43:36 > 0:43:38COMMENTATOR: Team captain Alan from the Weber team
0:43:38 > 0:43:40works for the Russian Space Agency.
0:43:40 > 0:43:42His job is to organise rocket launches
0:43:42 > 0:43:45from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
0:43:45 > 0:43:48So if you want something shot into space, like your boss,
0:43:48 > 0:43:50Alan is the man to talk to.
0:43:50 > 0:43:54Weber is a pneumatic flipper especially designed
0:43:54 > 0:43:58to work in the -25 Celsius of the Moscow winter.
0:43:58 > 0:43:59Brr, that's cold!
0:43:59 > 0:44:01The team have only been building robots for two years,
0:44:01 > 0:44:03and they're already Russian champions.
0:44:05 > 0:44:06OK.
0:44:06 > 0:44:08Team Weber.
0:44:08 > 0:44:10The Rest Of The World team is behind, 8-3.
0:44:10 > 0:44:14We need both of the next fights in order to pull this through.
0:44:14 > 0:44:18So it's your turn and I want you to take the enemy apart.
0:44:18 > 0:44:19- Udachi!- We will do it!
0:44:19 > 0:44:21- Right, yes! - THEY CHEER
0:44:23 > 0:44:28Concussion is a drum spinner with over 7,000 rpm of bite.
0:44:28 > 0:44:33This uppercutting robot uses its drum to flip and rip opponents.
0:44:33 > 0:44:36Concussion's weak against flippers
0:44:36 > 0:44:38because when it's inverted, its weapon is ineffective.
0:44:38 > 0:44:42If flipped, the driver, Carl, has got to try and spin the drum
0:44:42 > 0:44:44to flip the robot back onto its wheels.
0:44:44 > 0:44:46That'll be a neat trick.
0:44:46 > 0:44:48If they don't get flipped out of the arena in the process!
0:44:48 > 0:44:51CHEERING
0:44:51 > 0:44:54In the arena for this international head-to-head...
0:44:56 > 0:44:59..the continental breakfast of Dead Metal,
0:44:59 > 0:45:01and the full English and brown sauce -
0:45:01 > 0:45:02it's Sir Killalot!
0:45:06 > 0:45:09Roboteers, stand by.
0:45:09 > 0:45:11CHEERING
0:45:13 > 0:45:16Three, two, one...
0:45:17 > 0:45:19..activate!
0:45:19 > 0:45:23Both of these teams work in the aerospace industry.
0:45:23 > 0:45:28Which one will splash down with ignominy and infamy today?
0:45:28 > 0:45:29The Concussion boys
0:45:29 > 0:45:31have been larging it a bit,
0:45:31 > 0:45:32they're very confident.
0:45:33 > 0:45:35And they have Weber overturned -
0:45:35 > 0:45:37good self-righting.
0:45:37 > 0:45:39Yay! They got out of there.
0:45:40 > 0:45:43Well done. The Russian team,
0:45:43 > 0:45:44they need to win this
0:45:44 > 0:45:46and within time, as well.
0:45:46 > 0:45:48Can't allow it to get even to the judges
0:45:48 > 0:45:51if the Rest Of The World is to stand a chance of winning.
0:45:51 > 0:45:54Oh, Dead Metal doesn't want to do that!
0:45:54 > 0:45:55Concussion taking some punishment
0:45:55 > 0:45:58there from Dead Metal in the CPZ.
0:46:00 > 0:46:02Weber lines up another attack,
0:46:02 > 0:46:03then veers... not off-track, actually,
0:46:03 > 0:46:05I thought they had. But, no, clever driving.
0:46:05 > 0:46:08Dial of Doom goes left-hand side.
0:46:08 > 0:46:11That allows a house robot to go rogue and here's Dead Metal.
0:46:11 > 0:46:12Comes out and, ironically,
0:46:12 > 0:46:14catches Weber - oof!
0:46:15 > 0:46:18And the Russians in a sandwich there of house robots -
0:46:18 > 0:46:19you really don't want to be there.
0:46:19 > 0:46:21Stay out of there.
0:46:21 > 0:46:24And the house robots taking it out
0:46:24 > 0:46:26on Weber on the flame pit,
0:46:26 > 0:46:29and in some distress - they've lost a wheel.
0:46:29 > 0:46:30Oh, he's lost a wheel.
0:46:32 > 0:46:33They can only spin now,
0:46:33 > 0:46:36idly, really. Can't go far.
0:46:36 > 0:46:38Concussion sense a victory is here.
0:46:40 > 0:46:41Big team, the Concussion team.
0:46:41 > 0:46:44They say the Robot Wars experience has given them
0:46:44 > 0:46:47a real purpose in life, which is great to hear.
0:46:47 > 0:46:51All about improving engineering standards
0:46:51 > 0:46:53and also giving us some thrills and spills
0:46:53 > 0:46:55and some splinters and some sparkles
0:46:55 > 0:46:57and some...
0:46:57 > 0:46:59Wonderful moments in the arena -
0:46:59 > 0:47:01of sheer brutality!
0:47:01 > 0:47:02KLAXON
0:47:02 > 0:47:05And Weber spins, but I don't think they spin to win.
0:47:05 > 0:47:06Lovely pirouette to finish.
0:47:06 > 0:47:08Concussion were on top, though.
0:47:08 > 0:47:10And Weber,
0:47:10 > 0:47:13from the Russian Space Agency, hardly in orbit.
0:47:15 > 0:47:17Arena, we have a problem. Splashdown.
0:47:20 > 0:47:22Killalot, don't you dare!
0:47:22 > 0:47:25Only two years' experience, both these teams.
0:47:25 > 0:47:28"You can go and afterwards," says Killalot. Go on!
0:47:28 > 0:47:30- Wahey!- Was that you?!
0:47:31 > 0:47:33DARA LAUGHS
0:47:34 > 0:47:38Smiles all round. Good to see at the end. Win for the UK.
0:47:38 > 0:47:40When Dead Metal went straight down
0:47:40 > 0:47:42on the spinner, I thought,
0:47:42 > 0:47:44"What's going to happen there?"
0:47:44 > 0:47:46With Concussion, yeah.
0:47:49 > 0:47:52Side on, Concussion seizing the weak point there of Weber's armament.
0:47:54 > 0:47:55I suppose wheels always a weak point -
0:47:55 > 0:47:58indeed, the exposed pneumatic wheels of Concussion
0:47:58 > 0:48:00could have been targeted.
0:48:00 > 0:48:03That was a bump and a bounce there.
0:48:03 > 0:48:05This is a real problematic moment for Weber -
0:48:05 > 0:48:07that's where the tyre went.
0:48:07 > 0:48:08They were squeezed by the house robots.
0:48:08 > 0:48:11From then on, really, they couldn't get around the arena.
0:48:11 > 0:48:14Concussion could time the attacks well, and they did.
0:48:17 > 0:48:19ANGELA: A quick look at the scoreboard
0:48:19 > 0:48:22confirms the Rest Of The World team has lost on points.
0:48:22 > 0:48:24But can they still salvage some pride?
0:48:27 > 0:48:31For Michael and Fuzzy, national pride is at stake.
0:48:31 > 0:48:33Can American muscle stage a shock victory
0:48:33 > 0:48:36by taking out the best of British?
0:48:37 > 0:48:39Well, Fuzzy - this has set you rather a challenge
0:48:39 > 0:48:41for this last fight, hasn't it?
0:48:41 > 0:48:43Apparently, I have to win my fight twice.
0:48:43 > 0:48:46Yes, you do. It's 11-3, unfortunately.
0:48:46 > 0:48:48- I shall do my best.- You do that.
0:48:48 > 0:48:52Can you win it so much, time stops, goes backwards,
0:48:52 > 0:48:54- and then you win it again? - I'll tell you what.
0:48:54 > 0:48:56What we can do, I can win the fight
0:48:56 > 0:48:59and then you can ask the audience if I deserve double credit.
0:48:59 > 0:49:02- I could do that. - You won't, but you could!
0:49:02 > 0:49:06I already gave you three points earlier on, I can't keep doing that.
0:49:06 > 0:49:09- Well, all I can do is my best. - Yes, you can. Absolutely.
0:49:09 > 0:49:12And I want you to do it with pride, though.
0:49:12 > 0:49:14- I'm very happy with our team, it's a great team.- It's a great team.
0:49:14 > 0:49:17And I think we're better than this. But, you know...
0:49:17 > 0:49:20- Hey, these things happen in sport, right?- Yes, indeed.
0:49:20 > 0:49:21Are you ready to go on this one?
0:49:21 > 0:49:23- Yeah.- Are you going for the wipe-out?- Yes. Course we are.
0:49:23 > 0:49:25There's literally nothing I can do other than...
0:49:25 > 0:49:28Let's enjoy this, all right? Let's go out there
0:49:28 > 0:49:30and just enjoy this last international battle, OK?
0:49:30 > 0:49:34- Good luck, sir.- And you. - Oh, my God. Too civilised!
0:49:34 > 0:49:37You're Fuzzy robots in wars! This is too civilised!
0:49:41 > 0:49:44It's time for tonight's headline battle, captain against captain.
0:49:46 > 0:49:49All the way from Texas, USA, comes the mighty Cathadh.
0:49:50 > 0:49:54Fuzzy has brought his decades of robot-fighting experience
0:49:54 > 0:49:55to the competition.
0:49:55 > 0:49:58Well, this is coming down to Britain versus the Rest Of The World
0:49:58 > 0:50:01and the British dominant robot is the flipper.
0:50:08 > 0:50:10And in America, at least,
0:50:10 > 0:50:12the dominant robot is usually the spinner.
0:50:24 > 0:50:26So this is going to come down to a spinner/flipper battle
0:50:26 > 0:50:30and I hope to smack the heck out of my opponent.
0:50:32 > 0:50:34Unfairly brutalised in the tag-team battle...
0:50:37 > 0:50:39..and given a bruising in the head-to-heads...
0:50:40 > 0:50:44..it's now up to Fuzzy and his American muscle machine
0:50:44 > 0:50:46to scrape a final victory.
0:50:47 > 0:50:51I built a powerful spinner and I expect to give him a good smacking.
0:50:52 > 0:50:54The giant spinner of Fuzzy's Cathadh
0:50:54 > 0:50:58is against the UK number one, Michael, and Eruption.
0:50:58 > 0:51:02I think we've proved now that we have got the best flipper in the UK.
0:51:02 > 0:51:06And we're going to show why the UK is the best in the world.
0:51:06 > 0:51:10Newly-crowned champion Michael Oakes has led the UK on a global rampage.
0:51:15 > 0:51:16We are Robot Wars champions.
0:51:16 > 0:51:19We're going to come here, we're going to do it again,
0:51:19 > 0:51:21we're going to go all-out and we're going to destroy our opposition.
0:51:23 > 0:51:27Although the UK HAS incurred some casualties.
0:51:29 > 0:51:32Now it's up to Michael to use the experience and tactics
0:51:32 > 0:51:37he gained becoming champion to show the UK are truly world-class.
0:51:46 > 0:51:49Roboteers, stand by.
0:51:53 > 0:51:57Three, two, one...
0:51:58 > 0:51:59..activate!
0:51:59 > 0:52:03They've come 4,624 miles to be here...
0:52:03 > 0:52:05Not spinning.
0:52:05 > 0:52:07Oh, dear, this is going to...
0:52:07 > 0:52:09..Michael and Debbie and Cathadh.
0:52:09 > 0:52:11And they're up against the UK champions,
0:52:11 > 0:52:13the Texas cattle ranch owners -
0:52:13 > 0:52:15# Rollin', rollin', rollin'
0:52:15 > 0:52:17# Get them doggies rollin', rawhide! #
0:52:17 > 0:52:19Yes, I will never sing again for you.
0:52:19 > 0:52:22They need to get that weaponry working, Cathadh here.
0:52:22 > 0:52:25Man who once owned a bar called the Lazy Toad Robot Pub and Grill,
0:52:25 > 0:52:27he's such a Robot Wars fan.
0:52:27 > 0:52:30They need to get that weaponry working.
0:52:30 > 0:52:32They're drawing Eruption across the arena floor.
0:52:32 > 0:52:35Press on the Dial of Doom - that leads the house robots to come in.
0:52:35 > 0:52:37It's Shunt out there.
0:52:37 > 0:52:39Cathadh backs away.
0:52:39 > 0:52:42In comes Eruption with a full slap - that doesn't work.
0:52:42 > 0:52:45This is a durable Cathadh machine we're seeing here.
0:52:45 > 0:52:48Chased around by Shunt, is Eruption.
0:52:48 > 0:52:49Got out of trouble there, Michael,
0:52:49 > 0:52:51got himself into a dangerous zone.
0:52:55 > 0:52:58Still the bar spinner isn't working for Cathadh,
0:52:58 > 0:53:02So they just draw away, trying to get some precious moments here.
0:53:03 > 0:53:07As Eruption comes in, trying to get to the side there and get a flip.
0:53:09 > 0:53:11Oh, got a flip,
0:53:11 > 0:53:13but it didn't...create too much damage,
0:53:13 > 0:53:16a glancing blow only and look at that,
0:53:16 > 0:53:19Shunt's weaponry buckled by Eruption.
0:53:19 > 0:53:21What a strong machine Eruption is.
0:53:23 > 0:53:25The weaponry ripped right off!
0:53:26 > 0:53:27Never seen that before!
0:53:32 > 0:53:34Now the bar spinner's working for Cathadh.
0:53:35 > 0:53:38I'm sure it was working moments ago.
0:53:38 > 0:53:40In comes Eruption.
0:53:40 > 0:53:44They're trying to keep their weaponry in reserve
0:53:44 > 0:53:47to have a go at Eruption.
0:53:47 > 0:53:49Eruption comes in with a flip, self-rights.
0:53:49 > 0:53:52We expect that from Michael - what a driver he is.
0:53:52 > 0:53:54Big flip, very near the low wall.
0:53:54 > 0:53:56- Oh, nearly.- Come on!
0:53:56 > 0:53:59That could have sent Cathadh out of the arena completely.
0:54:00 > 0:54:04Need to stay away from there, they need to get away from there!
0:54:04 > 0:54:05And they just got away.
0:54:07 > 0:54:10And they're hanging on in there, Cathadh, at the moment.
0:54:10 > 0:54:12Big toss - goodness me!
0:54:12 > 0:54:14The spinner's now working!
0:54:14 > 0:54:16The one I thought was bad is still working.
0:54:16 > 0:54:19Back in the game!
0:54:19 > 0:54:23How ironic. The attack from Eruption freed the spinner fully
0:54:23 > 0:54:25and it did get some damage in on Eruption.
0:54:25 > 0:54:27Well, it worked for while.
0:54:28 > 0:54:32Another toss in the air from Eruption on Cathadh.
0:54:33 > 0:54:36Showed good driving skills, Michael.
0:54:36 > 0:54:38Which allows Eruption, of course,
0:54:38 > 0:54:40to get another blast of the flipper in.
0:54:41 > 0:54:43And Cathadh in trouble.
0:54:43 > 0:54:46And Eruption goes to finish them off.
0:54:46 > 0:54:49There's not a lot left in Cathadh - the wheel has gone.
0:54:49 > 0:54:52The wheel has gone, which means they can't move.
0:54:52 > 0:54:54Eruption senses victory here...
0:54:54 > 0:54:56I have no claw.
0:54:56 > 0:54:58They're not going to be able to move on one wheel.
0:54:58 > 0:55:00They know they've won it.
0:55:00 > 0:55:02Very convincing performance
0:55:02 > 0:55:04by Eruption and from Team UK.
0:55:04 > 0:55:08Pit, pit, pit, pit, pit, pit...
0:55:08 > 0:55:10- pit! Yeah! - CHEERING
0:55:12 > 0:55:15Great battling by Cathadh, but it wasn't enough.
0:55:15 > 0:55:17Victory for the UK team captain.
0:55:17 > 0:55:19Victory for the UK.
0:55:19 > 0:55:21The USA beaten.
0:55:21 > 0:55:23- Sorry.- That's all right.- Was hoping to give you a better fight.
0:55:25 > 0:55:28Shunt's weaponry broken
0:55:28 > 0:55:30by the Flipper of Eruption.
0:55:30 > 0:55:33And then Eruption in underneath Cathadh -
0:55:33 > 0:55:35that was very much the tale of the tape, really.
0:55:35 > 0:55:37Cathadh needed to get the weaponry moving,
0:55:37 > 0:55:42needed to get that big bar spinner into full effect.
0:55:42 > 0:55:45It was only when Eruption flipped it up into the air
0:55:45 > 0:55:47that released some sort of gizmo in the machine
0:55:47 > 0:55:49that the weaponry did come into operation.
0:55:51 > 0:55:53Eruption on top throughout,
0:55:53 > 0:55:54very good victory for the UK.
0:55:54 > 0:55:57Very good heat for the UK, dominant throughout.
0:55:57 > 0:56:00See the buckling effect on Eruption there -
0:56:00 > 0:56:02it was rocking for a little while
0:56:02 > 0:56:04and the flipper took some punishment -
0:56:04 > 0:56:06something came off, there, look.
0:56:06 > 0:56:09A big ring comes off onto the arena floor,
0:56:09 > 0:56:11and then out comes the chain,
0:56:11 > 0:56:13the drive chain of the spinner, so that's the end.
0:56:15 > 0:56:17There goes the tyre.
0:56:17 > 0:56:21From then on, they simply couldn't get around the arena.
0:56:21 > 0:56:24They became a toy for Eruption
0:56:24 > 0:56:26and the UK champion.
0:56:26 > 0:56:28One of the most impressive robots
0:56:28 > 0:56:30in the world right now.
0:56:37 > 0:56:40Ah, well done!
0:56:40 > 0:56:42Now, you started out side-on,
0:56:42 > 0:56:44which is not something we normally see -
0:56:44 > 0:56:46was that a tactical manoeuvre?
0:56:46 > 0:56:49It would have been, had my motor worked.
0:56:49 > 0:56:53When you start this, the weapon force goes this way,
0:56:53 > 0:56:55so it turns the robot 90 degrees to the right.
0:56:55 > 0:56:57So if the weapon had worked,
0:56:57 > 0:56:59I would have wound up pointing right at him with my weapon on.
0:56:59 > 0:57:01- Ready to go.- But it took more damage
0:57:01 > 0:57:03in the previous fight than I knew and...
0:57:03 > 0:57:06And the weapon didn't fire at all? For a while.
0:57:06 > 0:57:08It didn't fire for two minutes and at one point...
0:57:08 > 0:57:10There's a dead spot somewhere in the motor
0:57:10 > 0:57:13- and when you get it off the dead spot, it spins up.- OK.
0:57:13 > 0:57:17So I hit the wall or he hit me, I don't know, and it started spinning.
0:57:17 > 0:57:19I got in a few hits, but then it got back on that dead spot
0:57:19 > 0:57:23- and it stopped working.- Wrangling cattle versus wrangling this team -
0:57:23 > 0:57:24how has it been for you?
0:57:24 > 0:57:27Um... Oh, this has been a great team
0:57:27 > 0:57:30and I haven't needed to use any breeders' cubes at all to get them
0:57:30 > 0:57:33- to go where they needed to go! - Brilliant! Well,
0:57:33 > 0:57:35we have loved having you here.
0:57:35 > 0:57:37Please make some noise for the Rest Of The World team!
0:57:40 > 0:57:43Michael, I have these conversations with you semi-regularly
0:57:43 > 0:57:45in which I present you with a trophy -
0:57:45 > 0:57:48this was a fight that... Well, to be honest, he lay low for two minutes
0:57:48 > 0:57:52and then suddenly awoke, but you were in control for most of this.
0:57:52 > 0:57:54Yeah, I was thinking he might be playing dead at the start,
0:57:54 > 0:57:56so I had to wait until the entanglement fell off
0:57:56 > 0:57:59and then spin it up, so that's why was a little bit cautious with
0:57:59 > 0:58:01- the flipper.- How has your team been throughout this competition?
0:58:01 > 0:58:05They've been amazing. They all won, so I can't ask much more, really.
0:58:05 > 0:58:06Very, very good.
0:58:06 > 0:58:09Well, listen - you win the trophy by some distance - could you
0:58:09 > 0:58:13please give a huge round of applause to tonight's winners, Team UK!
0:58:16 > 0:58:19Well done! We hope you've enjoyed the show.
0:58:19 > 0:58:22From all of us here, good night!
0:58:22 > 0:58:24Well done! Well done.
