0:00:06 > 0:00:08made their way to London.

0:00:09 > 0:00:10Their aim?

0:00:10 > 0:00:13Prove themselves worthy business partners

0:00:18 > 0:00:21£250,000 goes into that business.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23No strings attached.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25- Are we going to win this? - Yes, boss!

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Characters were critiqued...

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Danny, you've made no decisions.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31It's like someone's just puked rainbow in his place.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34This is a bloody shambles. There was no bloody strategy.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36..duds disposed of.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38It is with regret that you're fired.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40You're fired. You're fired.

0:00:40 > 0:00:45Now five remain with everything to play for.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47These boys just don't know what they're doing.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48Michaela Wain...

0:00:48 > 0:00:50I mean, it is a bit of an insult, actually, mate, to be fair.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52I have admitted my part in this board,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54why can't you admit that you have ever done anything...?

0:00:54 > 0:00:56I mean, you just do nothing.

0:00:56 > 0:00:57Good luck, everybody.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59..Joanna Jarjue...

0:00:59 > 0:01:02In terms of the negotiation, I'll be leading it and I'll be closing it.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04You are very, very argumentative.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Everybody's wrong, you're always right.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08You're a difficult person.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10Can I say? It is quite quiet here.

0:01:10 > 0:01:11..James White...

0:01:11 > 0:01:14I'd rather take a bit more of a risk, spend a bit more.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17James, when are you going to man up and stick up for yourself?

0:01:17 > 0:01:20- Shall we run? Shall we bolt round there?- I think we should go. - Shall we bolt?

0:01:20 > 0:01:23- ..Sarah Lynn...- Go on, Sarah! - Whether you believe it or not,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26you didn't get it and that worries me that you didn't get it.

0:01:26 > 0:01:27Do them a deal, two for seven.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29..and Elizabeth McKenna.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Get out of the way, get out of the way!

0:01:31 > 0:01:33You are impossible to control.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Any repetition and you'll be gone.

0:01:35 > 0:01:36Understood.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40Now, just two weeks stand between them and the chance of a lifetime.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Tonight, we take a break from the boardroom

0:01:43 > 0:01:47to reveal - who are the final five?

0:01:54 > 0:01:56First up, Michaela Wain.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01I'm different to other people in the process because I'm not dead clever

0:02:01 > 0:02:04and know all the right things to say.

0:02:04 > 0:02:09I'm just a normal northern girl who works hard

0:02:09 > 0:02:11and just understands business.

0:02:12 > 0:02:13No-nonsense...

0:02:13 > 0:02:15We're not idiots. All we want to know is what furniture

0:02:15 > 0:02:16do you want us to get?

0:02:16 > 0:02:18- ..sales supremo... - We was aiming for 50.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Just for you guys, yeah? Don't tell nobody.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22She always says her piece.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25If I lose because of this, honestly, I'm going to be fuming.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27I can't be bothered with that.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29First impression when I met Michaela was she had this

0:02:29 > 0:02:32thick northern accent. I'm like, "All right!"

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Yeah, yeah, yeah, just buy whatever you want.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36And then I get told she's got a company that does

0:02:36 > 0:02:39£3 million turnover. I'm like, "Right, fair play!"

0:02:39 > 0:02:41And then suddenly you actually get to know her

0:02:41 > 0:02:42and she's such a lovely person.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44Oh, Lauren, I love you a little bit.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47Michaela is steely, she's firm, she's direct.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49Yeah, yeah, we're definitely going to win.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52And when you meet her, you can see she's clearly very capable.

0:02:54 > 0:02:55Now, Michaela...

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Straight away, Michaela made her mark.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02..you claim that you've got £3 million turnover.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03Yeah, over three million.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05I mean, what are you doing here?

0:03:05 > 0:03:07I know it's good in comparison to most people.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10But I'm from Bolton, I just want more.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17Michaela's determination to succeed stems from a modest background.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21Grew up in Bolton! Everybody calls me out all the time

0:03:21 > 0:03:23because of my accent, but it is what it is.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25And I love the north, everybody's super friendly.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27People in London are so serious!

0:03:27 > 0:03:30One of six, Michaela has five brothers

0:03:30 > 0:03:32and was brought up by her mum, Karen.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35I got divorced when I were really young, it were very tough.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38They didn't have all the best things.

0:03:38 > 0:03:40They didn't have all the...

0:03:40 > 0:03:43you know, the best clothes, the best trainers.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46I mean, we was relatively poor and we had to have, like,

0:03:46 > 0:03:48free school uniforms and free school dinners and all that shite.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51So, yeah, it was tough, like, we didn't really have much.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54As a child, Michaela was a force to be reckoned with.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56Michaela was the biggest tomboy you've ever seen.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00She was as rough as either of us.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02She just used to fight us all the time.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04All the girls on the street just couldn't stand her,

0:04:04 > 0:04:07because she'd just fight with them every two minutes.

0:04:07 > 0:04:10I was erring on the side of a little shit.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15I was a complete tomboy - didn't wear a dress until I was about 18,

0:04:15 > 0:04:17played on boys' football teams.

0:04:17 > 0:04:18I was always grounded.

0:04:20 > 0:04:24It never seemed like anything really bad, but, yeah, I got into...

0:04:24 > 0:04:25I've had my issues.

0:04:26 > 0:04:27Good morning.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29- ALL:- Good morning, Lord Sugar.

0:04:29 > 0:04:33Week three - Michaela got a chance to show just how well

0:04:33 > 0:04:34she could boss the boys.

0:04:36 > 0:04:37Having lost the first two tasks,

0:04:37 > 0:04:39the boys were pretty deflated.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42And, therefore, it was important for them to get somebody on the team to

0:04:42 > 0:04:43shake them up a bit.

0:04:43 > 0:04:47Now, Michaela, I understand that you've got four brothers, have you?

0:04:47 > 0:04:50- Yeah, I do.- And Michaela looked like she was pretty capable,

0:04:50 > 0:04:55and therefore it made sense for her to move over for this robot task.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59And I'm going to make you the project manager of this team.

0:04:59 > 0:05:00Off you go.

0:05:01 > 0:05:03- Hi, Michaela, you all right? - How are you getting on?

0:05:03 > 0:05:06Tasked with creating a brand-new robot...

0:05:06 > 0:05:10The name that we agreed was Jeffrii, with a double I at the end.

0:05:11 > 0:05:12OK.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15Michaela took her team in hand.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18When written down, I don't know if it looks right, Jeffrii.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21Part of the team had already chosen the name Jeffrii.

0:05:21 > 0:05:25- ROBOT:- Hello, I'm Jeffrii and I'm your helping hand for life.

0:05:25 > 0:05:29The robot had already been programmed, so Michaela's decision

0:05:29 > 0:05:31to change the name caused massive confusion.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34- Siimon?- Siimon, yeah!

0:05:34 > 0:05:36Is it simple to programme?

0:05:36 > 0:05:38Not really. We can't make any changes now.

0:05:38 > 0:05:41Overruling her team in this particular instance

0:05:41 > 0:05:42was a grave error.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45Siimon wasn't Michaela's only mistake.

0:05:45 > 0:05:46Hello, I'm Jeffrii.

0:05:46 > 0:05:49While half her team pitched their robot to retailers...

0:05:49 > 0:05:52The sign says "Siimon." This is very confusing.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56..she shifted cheaper toy robots to shops.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58We could go down to £46 apiece.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02The way you split a team is always very significant.

0:06:02 > 0:06:03In this situation, one has to ask oneself,

0:06:03 > 0:06:06did Michaela take the easy route and just do the selling,

0:06:06 > 0:06:08which she knows she's good at?

0:06:08 > 0:06:10- 45 and you've got a deal.- 45.50.

0:06:10 > 0:06:12And therefore, avoid doing the pitching,

0:06:12 > 0:06:14which is where the money really is.

0:06:14 > 0:06:18Or did she actually not even realise that that's where the money was?

0:06:19 > 0:06:21We need to get down to numbers.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24Michaela's management led to a loss.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26I mean, that was a thrashing, really, wasn't it?

0:06:26 > 0:06:29In the boardroom, she was under the microscope.

0:06:29 > 0:06:32I looked at this at the beginning and chose the best people

0:06:32 > 0:06:34for the pitch. You know, I thought that they would be able to go in

0:06:34 > 0:06:37and win it better than I would be able to go and do it.

0:06:37 > 0:06:38Why would you put yourself down like that?

0:06:38 > 0:06:40You're obviously a good salesperson.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42Yeah, I'm not super-confident.

0:06:43 > 0:06:48That's an admission to make to me, who wants to invest £250,000...

0:06:48 > 0:06:51It doesn't make me bad at business, that I'm not confident.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54I'm not very good at meeting new people and just feel

0:06:54 > 0:06:58a bit insecure or something, and so the thought of pitching to someone

0:06:58 > 0:07:01and them judging you, it's always been overwhelming to me.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06Michaela, I believe that there were some fatal errors made here,

0:07:06 > 0:07:09and for that reason, you know, I'm struggling.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13Changing the name to Siimon lost us the task.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16I couldn't believe it when he didn't fire me.

0:07:16 > 0:07:18I was just astounded.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21Michaela, you need to follow the money.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24I think Michaela was really lucky to survive that boardroom.

0:07:24 > 0:07:25Go back to the house.

0:07:25 > 0:07:27Thank you.

0:07:27 > 0:07:29She didn't give a good account of herself.

0:07:29 > 0:07:32She came across as really nervous in front of us,

0:07:32 > 0:07:35and I think Lord Sugar actually lost a bit of confidence in her.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39In her personal life, Michaela's had to overcome more

0:07:39 > 0:07:40than just her nerves.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44In her early twenties, she suffered quite a bit with her health.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47She had a lot of disorders where she couldn't digest her food.

0:07:47 > 0:07:50She also lost a couple of babies.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53She were told, really, that she would never have children.

0:07:53 > 0:07:57That she would get pregnant, but she would always miscarry.

0:07:57 > 0:07:59So, typical Michaela style...

0:08:01 > 0:08:02..she weren't having that.

0:08:02 > 0:08:04So, she investigated it.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07And she come up with, in America, if you have these injections,

0:08:07 > 0:08:10you won't lose the baby.

0:08:10 > 0:08:14So, she had the vitamin injection, got pregnant and then, here he is.

0:08:15 > 0:08:19Michaela's son, Harrison, was born in 2009.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24My mum's the best,

0:08:24 > 0:08:28cos she does everything for me, like make my tea

0:08:28 > 0:08:32and gets me loads of teddies.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34I love her 100%.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36Pull this out.

0:08:36 > 0:08:40My motivation throughout life is to create a better life for my son.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42Have a good education, have a good life,

0:08:42 > 0:08:46not worry about university tuition fees, buy him a house,

0:08:46 > 0:08:47whatever he wants.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50He can have whatever he wants, as long as he has got manners.

0:08:50 > 0:08:51And he always hugs me.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54When Harrison was five months old,

0:08:54 > 0:08:58Michaela made a decision that would change their lives.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00I just had this thought, looking at my son, like,

0:09:00 > 0:09:01"I just want to give you more."

0:09:01 > 0:09:03We was still just in like a little three-bed semi,

0:09:03 > 0:09:05I wanted him to have a massive garden.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07And I was sat in work one day and thought, "Do you know what?

0:09:07 > 0:09:09"I'm just going to leave."

0:09:09 > 0:09:11And I said to my brother, who also works there,

0:09:11 > 0:09:13I was just like, "Shall we set up our own business?"

0:09:15 > 0:09:18It was in 2009 that Michaela and her brother

0:09:18 > 0:09:20set up their first publication.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24It was hard, though, you know, I was writing articles at night,

0:09:24 > 0:09:26getting up and doing the night feeds in the evenings.

0:09:26 > 0:09:30It was the toughest thing I've ever done in my life.

0:09:30 > 0:09:34But, you know, it's literally paying dividends now.

0:09:34 > 0:09:36So, this is the offices of Design & Build.

0:09:37 > 0:09:39We moved in here about a week and a half ago because our old office,

0:09:39 > 0:09:43we outgrew, we needed more space, more staff.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45Since the start of the company, it was me and Michaela working

0:09:45 > 0:09:46in her front room.

0:09:46 > 0:09:50Within 12 weeks, we had seven staff and our own office premises.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53Within 12 months, we'd moved again, office premises.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56We've got one business on this floor and then we've got

0:09:56 > 0:09:58one business downstairs, manages utility connections.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01Between the two businesses, there's about 25 staff.

0:10:01 > 0:10:03Michaela's director of both businesses,

0:10:03 > 0:10:05so she helps out with accounts, she does a lot of sales calls,

0:10:05 > 0:10:08she can also help out with design instructions

0:10:08 > 0:10:10and also editorial content as well.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13Skills Michaela would put to good use in week seven.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15- Ha-ha!- Ooh!

0:10:15 > 0:10:19Tasked with creating a new car ad, she put her demons behind her.

0:10:19 > 0:10:21I run a marketing company,

0:10:21 > 0:10:23although I don't, like, design the adverts or anything,

0:10:23 > 0:10:27but I do understand the process and, evidently, I love cars as well.

0:10:27 > 0:10:29Michaela had led her team to a defeat in the robot task

0:10:29 > 0:10:33and she'd been heavily criticised for not actually doing any pitching.

0:10:33 > 0:10:35I'd probably vote Michaela project manager.

0:10:35 > 0:10:37Michaela, I'd want you as PM as well.

0:10:37 > 0:10:39So when the advertising task came up,

0:10:39 > 0:10:43this was a great opportunity for Michaela to redeem herself.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45I want to pitch.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47Well, I don't want to pitch, but I'm going to pitch.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50The problem is, if you go on about not being good at something,

0:10:50 > 0:10:52clearly the rest of the team are going to share

0:10:52 > 0:10:54that lack of confidence.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56Are you sure you want to pitch?

0:10:56 > 0:10:58We thought, do you want us to do more of the pitching,

0:10:58 > 0:11:01and you take a bit of a back seat, or where are you with that?

0:11:01 > 0:11:03I think so far I'm doing a good job.

0:11:03 > 0:11:05I'd appreciate it if you was confident in me.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07Good afternoon. We're Team Vitality.

0:11:08 > 0:11:09I knew that I had to pitch,

0:11:09 > 0:11:12that's why I put myself up for PM because I thought,

0:11:12 > 0:11:14"I need to prove that actually I am going to be capable of this."

0:11:14 > 0:11:19We are here today to show you our marketing campaign for Miami.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22I worked myself up into a frenzy, really.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25I was almost sick several times, I didn't eat all day

0:11:25 > 0:11:26or sleep the night before.

0:11:26 > 0:11:30It feels young, it's cool, it's vibrant.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33If it was to be a destination, then the destination would be Miami.

0:11:33 > 0:11:36And then I got through it and it was fine.

0:11:36 > 0:11:38And it helped to build my confidence,

0:11:38 > 0:11:40knowing if I could do the thing that I was most worried about in

0:11:40 > 0:11:43business, then, you know, I can go on and do anything.

0:11:43 > 0:11:46So, Michaela, was you happy with your pitch?

0:11:46 > 0:11:48Everybody said it was all right, so...

0:11:49 > 0:11:51- ..I'll go with, yeah.- I was really proud of Michaela as well,

0:11:51 > 0:11:53for facing her demons.

0:11:53 > 0:11:55Michaela drove away with a win.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57I've got to tell you that yours was the best.

0:11:57 > 0:11:58Yes!

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Since then, she hasn't looked back.

0:12:02 > 0:12:03Oh! Very posh.

0:12:03 > 0:12:06Michaela is an absolutely brilliant saleswoman. She's strong,

0:12:06 > 0:12:09she's to the point, she's got common sense.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11- Yeah, boy!- And she's exactly the sort of person I would want

0:12:11 > 0:12:13to work with on the outside world,

0:12:13 > 0:12:15so I kind of see her as a huge contender.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17Cheers!

0:12:17 > 0:12:19Michaela, you're doing brilliantly well on The Apprentice,

0:12:19 > 0:12:22we all think you're going to win. You're making us all so proud,

0:12:22 > 0:12:24especially me. You go, cock!

0:12:24 > 0:12:26Go on, Michaela, you can do it!

0:12:29 > 0:12:31You just better all behave!

0:12:31 > 0:12:34What makes me good in business is because I came from nothing

0:12:34 > 0:12:35and now I've got something,

0:12:35 > 0:12:37there is no way that I can fail, because...

0:12:38 > 0:12:40..I can't go back to that life.

0:12:40 > 0:12:44I don't just want a business that is going to turn over three million.

0:12:44 > 0:12:45Buzzing.

0:12:45 > 0:12:47I want something that's going to turn over 40 million.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50So, I mean, he'd be mad to not invest in somebody like me,

0:12:50 > 0:12:51because I've got this.

0:12:53 > 0:12:54Sarah Lynn.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59I've been in business 15 years and I know how it works.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01I'm super ambitious. I don't really think in terms of millions,

0:13:01 > 0:13:03I think in terms of billions.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05And I always get what I want.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08- Reliable... - We sold them all!

0:13:08 > 0:13:09- Yeah!- ..perfectionist...

0:13:09 > 0:13:12Oh, look, boys, they say 1947.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14..and above all, professional.

0:13:14 > 0:13:16We want to target strong career women who are ambitious

0:13:16 > 0:13:19and are going places in their life and with their career.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21She's very, very good at what she does.

0:13:21 > 0:13:23She's calm, she's quiet,

0:13:23 > 0:13:25she's logical, and I've got a lot of time for Sarah.

0:13:25 > 0:13:26She's very, very credible,

0:13:26 > 0:13:28real worlded in this process,

0:13:28 > 0:13:30and just an all-round really nice person.

0:13:30 > 0:13:33Ladies, choose your PM.

0:13:33 > 0:13:36In the process, Sarah stood out from the start.

0:13:36 > 0:13:39- I'm very happy to do it. - Are you sure?- Yep. Brilliant.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42What was playing on my mind is that my husband had categorically said

0:13:42 > 0:13:45to me going in, "Do not be PM for task one.

0:13:45 > 0:13:46"It's a poisoned chalice."

0:13:46 > 0:13:48Off you go and good luck.

0:13:49 > 0:13:53Taking an early lead is very much Sarah's style.

0:13:53 > 0:13:56The first time I met Sarah was at primary school.

0:13:56 > 0:13:59We were both seven, started on the same day.

0:13:59 > 0:14:00She was the bossy one in the class,

0:14:00 > 0:14:03she would be organising and stuff like that,

0:14:03 > 0:14:05so you always knew that she was going to be quite a dominant

0:14:05 > 0:14:07sort of force.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10She was a very high achiever.

0:14:10 > 0:14:13She would always have to read more books or, you know,

0:14:13 > 0:14:14do more homework.

0:14:14 > 0:14:17If she was told to do a page, she'd do three pages.

0:14:18 > 0:14:23But in 1998, it was all change in Sarah's childhood.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25Her mother and I split up when she was about five or six.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29So from that day,

0:14:29 > 0:14:34she sort of became quasi-peacemaker and she became quite diplomatic.

0:14:35 > 0:14:37And I think if you can manage that situation,

0:14:37 > 0:14:40you can manage any business situation that's thrown at you.

0:14:40 > 0:14:44On her very first task, she was the peacemaker once again.

0:14:45 > 0:14:48I'd really like Siobhan and Elizabeth on cooking.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50I'd prefer to do it on my own because Elizabeth

0:14:50 > 0:14:52- has faffled quite a lot on the whole task.- What is faffling?

0:14:52 > 0:14:55Please, let's not be negative and let's just bang out the sales

0:14:55 > 0:14:57- and do a job. - I haven't been negative.

0:14:57 > 0:15:01You just said Elizabeth's been faffing, it's just not helpful.

0:15:01 > 0:15:03I was really impressed by Sarah in that first task.

0:15:03 > 0:15:07She communicated really well, she drove the strategy, and actually,

0:15:07 > 0:15:08she led them.

0:15:08 > 0:15:12We're going to Canary Wharf, we're going to charge about £5 a burger.

0:15:12 > 0:15:13We should be OK.

0:15:13 > 0:15:16Sarah's sensible approach saw the girls taste victory.

0:15:16 > 0:15:19- Ladies, well done.- Thank you.- OK. And I'll see you on the next task.

0:15:19 > 0:15:21But just two weeks later...

0:15:21 > 0:15:24My gut feel is we're not going to win with four more sales.

0:15:24 > 0:15:27Her cool, calm style was put to the test.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30We're not going to win anyway, I don't think, cos we haven't sold

0:15:30 > 0:15:32- even half of them.- But you can always do the negative.

0:15:32 > 0:15:35You could always do it. You really are, all day long, in my ear hole.

0:15:35 > 0:15:37- No, I haven't been. - You're doing my head in.

0:15:37 > 0:15:39- This isn't about playing games now. - No, it's not.

0:15:39 > 0:15:41You're driving me nuts! So, just zip it or be constructive.

0:15:41 > 0:15:44You know what, don't... How dare you. Don't talk to me like that.

0:15:44 > 0:15:46Don't talk to me like that.

0:15:46 > 0:15:48It's hard to manage big personalities,

0:15:48 > 0:15:50and Sarah had worked hard to stay on track.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54But Siobhan had gone on and on and on,

0:15:54 > 0:15:56and Sarah had just had enough.

0:15:56 > 0:15:58Just don't give yourself enough credit to think

0:15:58 > 0:16:00I think you're competition to me, because I really don't...

0:16:00 > 0:16:02I'm a lot more successful in my business.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05- Sorry, I just don't need...- I'm sure you are. I'm sure you are, Siobhan.

0:16:05 > 0:16:08- I am.- I'm sure you're really engaging and people love you.

0:16:08 > 0:16:11Well, you seem to have pulled it off, ladies.

0:16:11 > 0:16:12Despite their spats...

0:16:12 > 0:16:15- Thank you.- ..the girls chalked up another win.

0:16:15 > 0:16:17Boys, three weeks, three losses.

0:16:17 > 0:16:22By week four, it was clear the other candidates saw Sarah as a contender.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24I've got to balance the teams up,

0:16:24 > 0:16:28so choose which one of these ladies you want to join your team.

0:16:28 > 0:16:29- Sarah, then.- Yep.- OK.

0:16:29 > 0:16:31Sarah, come and join this team.

0:16:31 > 0:16:33Having lost three in a row,

0:16:33 > 0:16:37it came as no surprise to me that the boys very quickly chose Sarah to

0:16:37 > 0:16:38move across.

0:16:38 > 0:16:41Their task, make money from the Women's Cup Final.

0:16:41 > 0:16:44I thought Harrison could sing some of his swing or his rat pack.

0:16:46 > 0:16:49With Sarah on board, the boys finally scored.

0:16:49 > 0:16:52Well, it's your first win, chaps.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55I think, moving over to the losing team, they'd lost every week,

0:16:55 > 0:16:57and then I moved over and we won that task.

0:16:57 > 0:17:00That felt like a really good feeling because I felt like

0:17:00 > 0:17:01I had made us successful.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04- Well done, and off you go.- Yes! - Thank you.- Come on, boys.

0:17:04 > 0:17:06Sarah went from strength to strength...

0:17:06 > 0:17:08- You're in.- Thank you. - Thank you so much.

0:17:08 > 0:17:09Thank you very much.

0:17:09 > 0:17:12..only losing once in the first seven weeks.

0:17:14 > 0:17:16Sarah's star was burning bright.

0:17:16 > 0:17:17She'd barely put a foot wrong.

0:17:17 > 0:17:20And I thought, "That woman has really got her eyes on the prize."

0:17:21 > 0:17:26Sarah set her sights on professional success at an early age.

0:17:26 > 0:17:29My desire to have my own business has been lifelong.

0:17:31 > 0:17:34My father was setting up his business at that point,

0:17:34 > 0:17:35when I was about seven.

0:17:37 > 0:17:40I started this business over 26 years ago.

0:17:40 > 0:17:41From as early as eight years old,

0:17:41 > 0:17:45Sarah jumped in at every opportunity to do whatever she could.

0:17:45 > 0:17:48She did everything from helping me pick loads, organise the run sheets,

0:17:48 > 0:17:50even sweep the warehouse.

0:17:52 > 0:17:54She even came up with the name and logo

0:17:54 > 0:17:56that we had when we started this company.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00I always thought she would have her own business.

0:18:00 > 0:18:02She was creative, hard-working,

0:18:02 > 0:18:04all of the key factors that you need when you want

0:18:04 > 0:18:06to run your own business.

0:18:06 > 0:18:10With a 2:1 in History and Politics from university,

0:18:10 > 0:18:13Sarah went to work for a TV company,

0:18:13 > 0:18:15but it wasn't long before she'd strike out on her own.

0:18:16 > 0:18:19The idea for my business came about because I used to do a lot of

0:18:19 > 0:18:22corporate gifts. I would always do nice chocolates,

0:18:22 > 0:18:25and there was nothing out there that was really special in confectionery.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30So, I just thought it would be really nice to develop something

0:18:30 > 0:18:33that people would be proud to give and that would sort of brings sweets

0:18:33 > 0:18:36up into a premium gifting format.

0:18:37 > 0:18:39So, this is Sweets In The City,

0:18:39 > 0:18:42Sarah's business for the last six, seven years.

0:18:42 > 0:18:44And this is the production line.

0:18:44 > 0:18:47The guys are working on some giant jars.

0:18:47 > 0:18:49They're doing around 500, 600 a day.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52The process is that the guys have to weigh the first three lines,

0:18:52 > 0:18:54and then they have to make everything beautiful,

0:18:54 > 0:18:57because that's our product, we have to look beautiful.

0:18:57 > 0:18:59So, then, we have to check the weight at the end.

0:18:59 > 0:19:00That's what we're doing now.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05And then someone is stickering, boxing up,

0:19:05 > 0:19:08and then we're taking it downstairs.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10Good afternoon, Sweets In The City.

0:19:10 > 0:19:11Sweets In The City is online.

0:19:11 > 0:19:15We have a website, and we're selling for retailers.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18Sarah basically does everything. She's always running somewhere.

0:19:18 > 0:19:21And she helps with everything, she's carrying boxes herself.

0:19:21 > 0:19:24So, she's not like, "OK, I'm office-side and I'm sitting there.

0:19:24 > 0:19:25"She's always helping."

0:19:26 > 0:19:29Three years after starting the business,

0:19:29 > 0:19:30there was a new addition to the family.

0:19:33 > 0:19:36Teddy was a shock, but it was an amazing shock,

0:19:36 > 0:19:38and it did change the focus of the business slightly

0:19:38 > 0:19:40for a short period of time.

0:19:40 > 0:19:42This is a big Thomas.

0:19:42 > 0:19:43It's a big Thomas.

0:19:43 > 0:19:47But we've got a great family support network who help us out and allow

0:19:47 > 0:19:49Sarah to do what she wants to do.

0:19:53 > 0:19:54The amazing person that she is,

0:19:54 > 0:19:57she's managed to make it work with being a mum, but also

0:19:57 > 0:20:01she's managed to keep her focus and drive on her business.

0:20:01 > 0:20:03All aboard!

0:20:04 > 0:20:07My family are just a huge inspiration

0:20:07 > 0:20:08and a huge driver for me,

0:20:08 > 0:20:10because I want my son to be proud of me.

0:20:10 > 0:20:13So, this would be fantastic for him to look at his mummy

0:20:13 > 0:20:17and to think, "She's achieved that."

0:20:17 > 0:20:19- Good morning. - ALL:- Good morning, Lord Sugar.

0:20:19 > 0:20:23- Week nine...- You're going to be the project manager of Graphene.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25..Sarah was back in the spotlight.

0:20:25 > 0:20:29I'm thinking gourmet, because it's fancy, it's difficult to make.

0:20:29 > 0:20:34But in branding her recipe box, she made her first big mistake.

0:20:34 > 0:20:36So, let's have a think about brand names.

0:20:36 > 0:20:38I came up with Gourmet Crusaders.

0:20:38 > 0:20:41Although we always advise candidates to be firm,

0:20:41 > 0:20:45actually, pushing through a bad idea can be just as damaging.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48When you're a crusader, isn't that when they went over

0:20:48 > 0:20:49and they took over?

0:20:49 > 0:20:53No, I think to crusade is just to stomp, to walk around, to travel,

0:20:53 > 0:20:56- to explore.- The retailers thought the name was in bad taste,

0:20:56 > 0:20:58and I don't blame them.

0:20:59 > 0:21:01Where did this crusader bit come from?

0:21:01 > 0:21:03That was my idea. So, the concept was that...

0:21:03 > 0:21:06I don't like the name. I thought it implied you were going to war.

0:21:06 > 0:21:07OK.

0:21:07 > 0:21:11A loss put Sarah in the firing line for the very first time.

0:21:11 > 0:21:15It's come as quite of a surprise, because you have performed

0:21:15 > 0:21:19quite well, but on this particular task, I can't understand why

0:21:19 > 0:21:20you didn't control it.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24The final few weeks have definitely been the most challenging

0:21:24 > 0:21:29because I've been frustrated that I've gone to the end of this process

0:21:29 > 0:21:32and almost dipped in terms of performance.

0:21:32 > 0:21:35Why should you remain in this process?

0:21:35 > 0:21:37Over the nine weeks, I've performed week in, week out,

0:21:37 > 0:21:39I've been on the winning team more than anybody.

0:21:39 > 0:21:40There's no coincidence.

0:21:40 > 0:21:42But I turned it into a positive and just thought being

0:21:42 > 0:21:45in front of him can only be a good thing if you're credible

0:21:45 > 0:21:47and if you know what you're talking about.

0:21:47 > 0:21:49I work with people, I work together, I lead,

0:21:49 > 0:21:51I make decisions when I need to.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54Sarah survived that boardroom, but I began to question whether she was as

0:21:54 > 0:21:57good a businessperson as we'd seen earlier in the process.

0:21:59 > 0:22:03Sarah tried to set the record straight on the fashion task.

0:22:03 > 0:22:06So, "Helen Woollams" in the alphabet letter balloons.

0:22:06 > 0:22:09I think that's brilliant. She'll love that as well, the designer.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12But while decorating the catwalk...

0:22:12 > 0:22:15The key thing is just getting her name out there.

0:22:15 > 0:22:17..she used the wrong name for the designer.

0:22:17 > 0:22:20Her name is Hellen Woollams, but her brand is Hellavagirl.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22She doesn't use her actual name,

0:22:22 > 0:22:26she uses her brand name, and now they've got it wrong.

0:22:26 > 0:22:27- Hi.- Hello!

0:22:27 > 0:22:30We are so excited to showcase your collection.

0:22:30 > 0:22:34My issue is, it's "Hellen Woollams" as opposed to "Hellavagirl."

0:22:36 > 0:22:40The team's performance added up to another loss.

0:22:40 > 0:22:44You've won seven out of ten in the past ten weeks,

0:22:44 > 0:22:49although this last three weeks you seem to have slipped back a bit.

0:22:49 > 0:22:50And that worries me, really,

0:22:50 > 0:22:54as to whether you've got the staying power in business at all.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58It was absolutely Sarah's earlier performance that saved her in

0:22:58 > 0:23:01the boardroom. Had we not felt strongly that she was

0:23:01 > 0:23:04a genuine contender, she'd have been a goner.

0:23:04 > 0:23:07Because of the high recommendations from these two here,

0:23:07 > 0:23:08I'm going to let you remain.

0:23:08 > 0:23:10- Thank you.- OK?- Thank you so much.

0:23:10 > 0:23:14Sarah's had such a strong start and now such a bad dip.

0:23:14 > 0:23:16£1, thank you so much.

0:23:16 > 0:23:19She's going to have to work really hard to show that actually it wasn't

0:23:19 > 0:23:21just a fluke in the beginning.

0:23:22 > 0:23:26And show us she's got what it takes, but she doesn't have long to do it.

0:23:26 > 0:23:27Team Graphene!

0:23:27 > 0:23:29Sarah, we are rooting for you...

0:23:29 > 0:23:30- ALL:- You can do it!

0:23:34 > 0:23:38My sole focus going in here is to really show my personality and my

0:23:38 > 0:23:40passion for my business plan,

0:23:40 > 0:23:42because I haven't had a chance to do that.

0:23:42 > 0:23:43£50 a head, deal?

0:23:43 > 0:23:45I'm probably a slightly quieter candidate,

0:23:45 > 0:23:48and now there's no place for being quiet.

0:23:48 > 0:23:51It's about talking, shining, and showing your abilities.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54And I fully intend to do that in the interview process.

0:23:59 > 0:24:02Next up, Elizabeth McKenna.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05I'm the pottiest person in the room all the time,

0:24:05 > 0:24:07but I'm also, more importantly, the most clear-headed person

0:24:07 > 0:24:09in the room.

0:24:10 > 0:24:11I've got a killer instinct in business,

0:24:11 > 0:24:14but I can be intimidating because I'm damn good at what I do

0:24:14 > 0:24:16and better than anybody else.

0:24:16 > 0:24:17Oh, my God!

0:24:17 > 0:24:20- Quirky...- Get out of the way, get out of the way!

0:24:20 > 0:24:23- ..forthright...- I will let it go, but I feel it's a mistake.

0:24:23 > 0:24:25..irrepressible.

0:24:25 > 0:24:28Who would like some candyfloss today?

0:24:28 > 0:24:30Elizabeth, absolutely crazy.

0:24:30 > 0:24:32Get some ice on the go.

0:24:32 > 0:24:38She's intense, but she has got a huge heart and a lot of passion.

0:24:38 > 0:24:39Spin round. Yeah!

0:24:39 > 0:24:43Just a crazy, mad mixture of characteristics.

0:24:43 > 0:24:45- All right, mate, how are you? - Hi, how are you?- Good.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47If something's irritating me, I'll say it.

0:24:47 > 0:24:50I would like to finish my point, because you are interrupting.

0:24:50 > 0:24:52If I feel something in my mind, I'll say it.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54I'd love to tackle one of those boys, get him in a ruck.

0:24:54 > 0:24:56And I have no filter.

0:24:56 > 0:24:57Yes!

0:24:57 > 0:24:59- SHE WHISPERS:- Sorry, Lord Sugar.

0:24:59 > 0:25:01And, because of that, you either love me or you hate me.

0:25:01 > 0:25:02I'm giving it some welly.

0:25:02 > 0:25:05From banging out burgers on task one...

0:25:05 > 0:25:07- Burgers!- Go, go, go!

0:25:07 > 0:25:09..to redesigning rooms on task two...

0:25:09 > 0:25:11Tell me what your skill sets are.

0:25:11 > 0:25:14I've basically rebuilt my own house from scratch.

0:25:14 > 0:25:17..Elizabeth had strong opinions on pretty much everything.

0:25:17 > 0:25:20Siobhan, do you want to do the measurements with myself?

0:25:20 > 0:25:21Are you measuring as well, Elizabeth?

0:25:21 > 0:25:23I will do some measurements, yes.

0:25:23 > 0:25:26I think we saw right from the first few tasks that Elizabeth's a very

0:25:26 > 0:25:28- strong character. - She has a tendency, however,

0:25:28 > 0:25:32to rub people up the wrong way, because it's her way or no way.

0:25:32 > 0:25:34- I've done that one. - I'll just check it again.

0:25:36 > 0:25:39Elizabeth, just leave the wall, it's fine.

0:25:39 > 0:25:41Is there anything else you would like me to measure?

0:25:41 > 0:25:43Have you measured every wall in this room?

0:25:43 > 0:25:45- Yes.- Perfect. No, then.

0:25:45 > 0:25:46Have you measured the doors?

0:25:47 > 0:25:49Um, one second.

0:25:49 > 0:25:51The irony of it all is that, having made such a fuss of all

0:25:51 > 0:25:55the measuring, when it came to it, she got it all wrong.

0:25:55 > 0:25:57I don't mean to criticise, but is that supposed to be

0:25:57 > 0:25:59- the centre?- Yeah. Elizabeth, is that correct?

0:25:59 > 0:26:01No, it's not. Right...

0:26:01 > 0:26:03This is... Yeah, OK.

0:26:03 > 0:26:05Thank you. Yeah.

0:26:05 > 0:26:06No, that's correct.

0:26:06 > 0:26:07How did you measure that wrong?

0:26:07 > 0:26:09I measured it... That's how I measured it.

0:26:09 > 0:26:11Wrong.

0:26:11 > 0:26:14Tasked with finding 5-star furnishings to dress the room...

0:26:14 > 0:26:16- This chair? - Sorry, guys, it's too expensive.

0:26:16 > 0:26:18..Elizabeth got carried away...

0:26:18 > 0:26:21- Oh, this one's nicer. - No, it's too expensive.

0:26:21 > 0:26:22..keeping count of the costs.

0:26:22 > 0:26:25- There's a mirror. - How much is it?- It's 495.

0:26:25 > 0:26:27At this point, I've got to put my foot down.

0:26:27 > 0:26:28You don't need to put your foot down,

0:26:28 > 0:26:30you can have a discussion, Elizabeth.

0:26:30 > 0:26:32You're not project manager, remember that.

0:26:32 > 0:26:34When it came to the decorating phase, we saw Elizabeth's

0:26:34 > 0:26:37annoying habit of interfering with everybody.

0:26:37 > 0:26:39Right, ladies, gloves on.

0:26:39 > 0:26:41They were all getting on with the painting, but, no,

0:26:41 > 0:26:44she had to interfere, interrupt and stick her nose in

0:26:44 > 0:26:45where it didn't belong.

0:26:45 > 0:26:47Ultimately, on that task,

0:26:47 > 0:26:50I'm not sure if Elizabeth was a help or a hindrance.

0:26:50 > 0:26:54Her style saw her singled out by Lord Sugar.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57Now, I understand, Elizabeth, you run the show a bit.

0:26:57 > 0:26:59I kind of took control of that a little bit.

0:26:59 > 0:27:00I see.

0:27:03 > 0:27:05Born in Australia,

0:27:05 > 0:27:07Elizabeth lived with her parents and younger brother.

0:27:09 > 0:27:13Elizabeth had a difficult childhood, in many ways,

0:27:13 > 0:27:15because her father was a very difficult man.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19I've probably come through one of the toughest upbringings

0:27:19 > 0:27:20you could possibly imagine.

0:27:22 > 0:27:24And we had to leave Australia to get away from it.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28When her parents separated in 1991,

0:27:28 > 0:27:31Elizabeth began a new life in the UK.

0:27:32 > 0:27:34But that brought its own challenges.

0:27:35 > 0:27:38I was six foot tall when I was 11 years of age,

0:27:38 > 0:27:42so when we came to England, I was also the kid that was six foot tall

0:27:42 > 0:27:44with an Australian accent, that looked and talked

0:27:44 > 0:27:46and sounded different.

0:27:46 > 0:27:49So, it really was a struggle to fit in when we got to England.

0:27:49 > 0:27:53I used to say to her, "You don't have to be popular to be successful.

0:27:53 > 0:27:56"You do your own thing, and you'll get there."

0:27:58 > 0:28:03When Elizabeth found her calling, her confidence blossomed.

0:28:03 > 0:28:05I did a college course in flowers.

0:28:05 > 0:28:07And I saw a business that was for sale

0:28:07 > 0:28:08that I knew was a good business.

0:28:08 > 0:28:12I did everything it took to get that business bought when I had nothing

0:28:12 > 0:28:14behind me. I managed to convince a bank.

0:28:16 > 0:28:21The business flourished and Elizabeth soon had three sites.

0:28:21 > 0:28:23So, this is one of Elizabeth's shops.

0:28:23 > 0:28:25She's owned the business for about ten years,

0:28:25 > 0:28:27we've been in this store for about two.

0:28:27 > 0:28:30This is the main shop area where the customers come in and see all the

0:28:30 > 0:28:31gorgeous flowers on display and plants

0:28:31 > 0:28:34and all the beautiful bouquets that we can make.

0:28:35 > 0:28:38So, this is the office. Elizabeth can usually be found here.

0:28:38 > 0:28:42When she's in this room, she's in the zone. You don't talk to her,

0:28:42 > 0:28:44you literally just get on with your stuff

0:28:44 > 0:28:47and then she'll come and talk to you when she's ready.

0:28:47 > 0:28:51No two days are ever the same working for Elizabeth.

0:28:51 > 0:28:54She's very motivational because she's very strong.

0:28:55 > 0:28:57She can be a slightly bonkers.

0:28:57 > 0:29:03She's been known to lock herself in the back cooler, scream, shout,

0:29:03 > 0:29:06or she'll go outside and start skipping,

0:29:06 > 0:29:08or she'll lie in a flower box.

0:29:08 > 0:29:10Or she'll cry.

0:29:10 > 0:29:12And then we might open a bottle of Prosecco.

0:29:15 > 0:29:18- Week six.- If you look at the modern juxtaposition of the architecture

0:29:18 > 0:29:20versus the historical position of the architecture,

0:29:20 > 0:29:23the two bounce off each other quite well.

0:29:23 > 0:29:26Elizabeth got her first chance to lead a team...

0:29:26 > 0:29:28Come on over, let's have you.

0:29:28 > 0:29:29..on the trip to Bruges.

0:29:29 > 0:29:31Guys, come on!

0:29:31 > 0:29:33Quick as we can now.

0:29:33 > 0:29:36My initial thought of Elizabeth becoming project manager on this

0:29:36 > 0:29:39particular task was - heaven help everybody.

0:29:39 > 0:29:42We need to walk, not dawdle. I've got a schedule to keep.

0:29:42 > 0:29:44She's a real bossy boots, and can come across as a bit of

0:29:44 > 0:29:45a head teacher.

0:29:45 > 0:29:48What's the word for "hello"?

0:29:48 > 0:29:49- ALL:- Hoi, hoi!

0:29:49 > 0:29:51Tell the square, "Hello."

0:29:51 > 0:29:52- ALL:- Hoi, hoi!

0:29:52 > 0:29:54We've got some chocolate for you guys to purchase.

0:29:54 > 0:29:56Would you like to come through and have a look?

0:29:56 > 0:29:59But, in this instance, her bossiness was useful.

0:30:00 > 0:30:01The tour went well.

0:30:01 > 0:30:04To infinity and beyond!

0:30:04 > 0:30:07And, ultimately, Elizabeth showed that she could lead a task,

0:30:07 > 0:30:09which, ultimately, they won.

0:30:09 > 0:30:10It's been emotional.

0:30:10 > 0:30:13"Thank you, guys, it's been emotional," was your last words.

0:30:13 > 0:30:16I do say lots of different things, Lord Sugar, I must admit.

0:30:16 > 0:30:17Yeah, I've worked that out.

0:30:17 > 0:30:20- Yeah.- Elizabeth marched to victory.

0:30:20 > 0:30:23- You win, Elizabeth. - Thank you, Lord Sugar.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26- Thank you, everybody.- Don't normally see that kind of forceful leadership

0:30:26 > 0:30:28outside of North Korea, though.

0:30:28 > 0:30:29LAUGHTER

0:30:30 > 0:30:33- Good morning. - ALL:- Good morning, Lord Sugar.

0:30:33 > 0:30:36- Week nine.- You'll need to design the packaging

0:30:36 > 0:30:39and create an exciting dish.

0:30:39 > 0:30:41When devising recipe boxes,

0:30:41 > 0:30:45Elizabeth put herself front and centre once again.

0:30:45 > 0:30:48I grew up in the kitchen with my mother who's a chef and a trained

0:30:48 > 0:30:50- catering lecturer.- Fantastic.

0:30:50 > 0:30:53The big question was - could Elizabeth step back

0:30:53 > 0:30:54and stop micromanaging?

0:30:54 > 0:30:56Well, the short answer was - no.

0:30:56 > 0:30:57Do you want me to chop it?

0:30:57 > 0:31:00- I'll chop it, it's fine.- That'll cook quicker with the lid on.

0:31:00 > 0:31:04She went on and on and on at James.

0:31:04 > 0:31:06Why don't I chop the celery? Would that be all right?

0:31:09 > 0:31:11- Yeah?- Yeah, I heard you, yeah.

0:31:11 > 0:31:14Until, in the end, he just gave up and let her do it

0:31:14 > 0:31:16and she took the lead.

0:31:16 > 0:31:19Because it's chopped so fine, it gives more of a professional finish.

0:31:23 > 0:31:27In their pitch, the team had to put on a live presentation.

0:31:28 > 0:31:30Elizabeth, if you want to start the clock,

0:31:30 > 0:31:32I'll pass you the ingredients.

0:31:32 > 0:31:34But Elizabeth bit off more than she could chew.

0:31:34 > 0:31:37What I want to do now is get my heat back up.

0:31:37 > 0:31:38If it will go up.

0:31:38 > 0:31:41I'm just going to get to my cooker to work.

0:31:41 > 0:31:43There was a really bad atmosphere.

0:31:43 > 0:31:44It was chaotic.

0:31:44 > 0:31:47- Put it down, please.- Leave it there? - Yeah, leave it, leave it, leave it.

0:31:47 > 0:31:50- Are you sure?- OK, Chef, pepper's getting in the way, come back.

0:31:50 > 0:31:53- Let's just move.- Too many cooks spoil the broth at this stage.

0:31:53 > 0:31:58And, to top it all off, the end dish was just a disaster.

0:31:59 > 0:32:01It was no surprise to me that they lost.

0:32:01 > 0:32:03Even less of a surprise that Elizabeth found herself

0:32:03 > 0:32:04in the bottom three.

0:32:04 > 0:32:09Karen said to me the pitch was, "So cringey, it was unbelievable."

0:32:09 > 0:32:11- These were her words. - Toe-curling.

0:32:11 > 0:32:14And, frankly, I thought she was a goner.

0:32:14 > 0:32:16You're like a giant hogweed, you know?

0:32:16 > 0:32:18You just completely take over.

0:32:18 > 0:32:21I was at my lowest point through the recipe task,

0:32:21 > 0:32:24and I was being rounded upon, again.

0:32:24 > 0:32:29I know you mean well, but I'm really struggling in visualising you

0:32:29 > 0:32:31as my business partner.

0:32:31 > 0:32:34I didn't know where to turn because I felt that nothing I was doing

0:32:34 > 0:32:37was right. And I found something from somewhere,

0:32:37 > 0:32:39and I showed Lord Sugar what I'm about.

0:32:39 > 0:32:43I'm a leader. I'm someone that will turn myself inside out to make

0:32:43 > 0:32:45my business plan work for you.

0:32:45 > 0:32:48I will achieve you £1 million' worth of additional turnover

0:32:48 > 0:32:50in a business within 18 months,

0:32:50 > 0:32:53that is currently running and in a position to go tomorrow.

0:32:53 > 0:32:55And I will do that for you.

0:32:55 > 0:32:57I think seeing Elizabeth in the boardroom, I thought,

0:32:57 > 0:32:59"Elizabeth is a contender here,"

0:32:59 > 0:33:03because she was so passionate and so forceful in her argument

0:33:03 > 0:33:04for why she should stay.

0:33:04 > 0:33:06And I think she actually probably turned Lord Sugar

0:33:06 > 0:33:09in that boardroom away from firing her.

0:33:09 > 0:33:11HE SIGHS

0:33:11 > 0:33:14Lord Sugar, I only want to do my very best to help the team win...

0:33:14 > 0:33:16- I think you do. - ..and I did my level best.

0:33:16 > 0:33:20I think you do, I think your heart's in the right place, but...

0:33:20 > 0:33:22I just couldn't help myself.

0:33:22 > 0:33:23Trying to calm you down is like trying to

0:33:23 > 0:33:25brush a piranha's teeth.

0:33:25 > 0:33:26You won't calm down.

0:33:26 > 0:33:30Will you give me one more chance, please, Lord Sugar?

0:33:30 > 0:33:32- I will do as I am told, I... - I get what you're

0:33:32 > 0:33:34- saying, I get it, I get it.- I will not let you down, Lord Sugar.

0:33:34 > 0:33:37- Go back to the house, shut up. - Yes, Lord Sugar, thank you.

0:33:37 > 0:33:41- Go back to the house.- Thank you, thank you, thank you, much appreciated.

0:33:41 > 0:33:44Moving forward, Elizabeth is going to have to prove

0:33:44 > 0:33:47that she can lead to people without controlling them,

0:33:47 > 0:33:50she can actually work alongside other people,

0:33:50 > 0:33:52or Lord Sugar is just not going to invest in her.

0:33:52 > 0:33:55Whatever comes from those interviews comes from it,

0:33:55 > 0:33:57but I am here to answer any question.

0:33:57 > 0:33:58Go, go, go!

0:33:59 > 0:34:01Challenge me thoroughly.

0:34:01 > 0:34:02I'll give you every answer you need.

0:34:02 > 0:34:05Yes!

0:34:05 > 0:34:07The other part of it is - can Lord Sugar see something in me

0:34:07 > 0:34:09he wants to work with?

0:34:09 > 0:34:11I need to show him that.

0:34:11 > 0:34:12End of. And I'm going to.

0:34:12 > 0:34:16If I just concentrate on what I'm doing, get it done, job done.

0:34:18 > 0:34:19Fingers crossed.

0:34:21 > 0:34:25Next, 23-year-old Joanna Jarjue.

0:34:25 > 0:34:28My motto in life is to be successful and look good while doing it.

0:34:31 > 0:34:33I'm definitely a force to be reckoned with.

0:34:33 > 0:34:36I'm tenacious, I'll do basically whatever it takes

0:34:36 > 0:34:37to get what I want.

0:34:37 > 0:34:39If I've got a goal, I'll go for it.

0:34:40 > 0:34:42- Opinionated... - It sounds a bit too harsh.

0:34:42 > 0:34:44It should be, "Hello, what's your name?"

0:34:44 > 0:34:48- ..resilient...- We've just lost the sale, can we go to the next one?

0:34:48 > 0:34:52- ..sassy.- I'm happy with it anyway, and I'm proud. Yeah?

0:34:52 > 0:34:54First impressions are - not sure what to make of you.

0:34:54 > 0:34:56But she's a little firecracker.

0:34:56 > 0:34:59She's very formidable, she's got a fantastic mind.

0:35:00 > 0:35:03Joanna is the youngest candidate in the process.

0:35:03 > 0:35:04Be gentle with me.

0:35:04 > 0:35:07And, therefore, one had to wonder if she had the maturity

0:35:07 > 0:35:09to see this through.

0:35:09 > 0:35:12But it was clear early on that her lack of experience

0:35:12 > 0:35:14was not going to hold her back in any way at all.

0:35:14 > 0:35:15Well done.

0:35:15 > 0:35:18Joanna's age hasn't proved a problem.

0:35:18 > 0:35:21Well, you seem to have pulled it off, ladies.

0:35:21 > 0:35:24She's won eight out of ten tasks.

0:35:24 > 0:35:26The ladies have won this task.

0:35:26 > 0:35:27Yes!

0:35:27 > 0:35:31Joanna has the best record in the process.

0:35:31 > 0:35:33Well done. OK.

0:35:33 > 0:35:35And had the most number of wins of all the candidates

0:35:35 > 0:35:37in the final five.

0:35:37 > 0:35:39And that doesn't come by accident.

0:35:39 > 0:35:42There you are. You won, so, congratulations.

0:35:42 > 0:35:46I think if I was any other person, I would be absolutely buzzing that,

0:35:46 > 0:35:50you know, I, on paper, have the best record in the final five.

0:35:50 > 0:35:51It was you that started talking.

0:35:51 > 0:35:54Actually, you were the loudest person.

0:35:54 > 0:35:56But I do feel like other things overshadow it,

0:35:56 > 0:35:58and I think that's why I get upset.

0:35:58 > 0:36:00Don't blame everybody else.

0:36:00 > 0:36:03I'm not going to be told off, when we all did it and you were...

0:36:03 > 0:36:04There's no doubt about it -

0:36:04 > 0:36:08Joanna is a really feisty young woman and she has been

0:36:08 > 0:36:10involved in a lot of set-to with her fellow candidates.

0:36:10 > 0:36:14Joanna, if you're at all insecure about anything...

0:36:14 > 0:36:15I'm not insecure about anything.

0:36:15 > 0:36:18- Right, that was the wrong choice of word, potentially.- It was.

0:36:18 > 0:36:22- It was.- Time and again, Joanna clashed with colleagues.

0:36:22 > 0:36:24If I could have the options...

0:36:24 > 0:36:27- Sorry, I really, really...- Or like a baby blue?

0:36:27 > 0:36:28Can I just ask?!

0:36:28 > 0:36:31It's pretty fundamental in business to get on with people

0:36:31 > 0:36:32who you work with.

0:36:32 > 0:36:33Seriously, I just want to...

0:36:33 > 0:36:36One of the key things that Lord Sugar's looking for

0:36:36 > 0:36:39is someone who can work within a team, but also is easy

0:36:39 > 0:36:42- to get on with.- I just wanted you to know what I was thinking.

0:36:42 > 0:36:44Can you let me speak now? That's fine.

0:36:44 > 0:36:46Let me finish my point, then!

0:36:46 > 0:36:48I think Joanna can be argumentative.

0:36:48 > 0:36:50She has had a few clashes.

0:36:50 > 0:36:52- God.- No, I'm just... - Let me finish my point.

0:36:52 > 0:36:54Don't be like, "Can you let me speak now?"

0:36:54 > 0:36:56And she doesn't know when to back down.

0:36:56 > 0:36:58There is a time and place to pick your battles

0:36:58 > 0:37:01and I think she picked one too many.

0:37:01 > 0:37:05Joanna, everybody's wrong, or that one here's not telling the truth.

0:37:05 > 0:37:06You're a difficult person.

0:37:07 > 0:37:10I'm thinking to myself, "Do I need this aggravation?"

0:37:11 > 0:37:13To put her temperament to the test...

0:37:15 > 0:37:17..Lord Sugar set her a challenge.

0:37:17 > 0:37:20You're going to be the project manager of the next task.

0:37:20 > 0:37:23- That's fine, Lord Sugar.- I was nervous for Joanna when she was made

0:37:23 > 0:37:26project manager because there's been so much bad blood between her

0:37:26 > 0:37:28and some of the other candidates, that I wasn't sure

0:37:28 > 0:37:30they'd be able to rally behind her.

0:37:32 > 0:37:34How much do you usually sell your rugelach for?

0:37:34 > 0:37:37But, actually, what I saw in that task was Joanna working as hard as

0:37:37 > 0:37:39possible to avoid conflicts.

0:37:39 > 0:37:42And would we be able to do it at around 25p?

0:37:42 > 0:37:46Throughout the task, Joanna stayed in the driving seat.

0:37:46 > 0:37:47- Hello?- Hi, Bushra.

0:37:47 > 0:37:50Joanna, we've got 30 minutes and we're just on our way to go

0:37:50 > 0:37:53and collect the scarlet doeskin.

0:37:53 > 0:37:55I'm saying go for the doeskin.

0:37:55 > 0:37:58OK, so we're going to take your lead and we're going to go, all right?

0:37:58 > 0:38:00The biggest risk that I've taken...

0:38:00 > 0:38:01Good luck, team, bye!

0:38:01 > 0:38:04..was to say, "No, we're going to be late,

0:38:04 > 0:38:06"but we're going to get all nine items."

0:38:06 > 0:38:07We've definitely missed the deadline.

0:38:07 > 0:38:10I actually do think it was also a calculated risk,

0:38:10 > 0:38:12and I feel like it was the one decision that made sense

0:38:12 > 0:38:15and, luckily, it paid off.

0:38:15 > 0:38:17You finally got to the House of Lords an hour late.

0:38:17 > 0:38:20Because the sub team had sourced the doeskin.

0:38:20 > 0:38:22When he was about to read those results out,

0:38:22 > 0:38:24my heart just dropped to my arse,

0:38:24 > 0:38:26and I just thought, "This is it, you're going."

0:38:26 > 0:38:29Despite the delay, Joanna steered her team to a win.

0:38:31 > 0:38:34- Tears of joy? - I was really scared about that.

0:38:34 > 0:38:36I tried my hardest, but thank you.

0:38:36 > 0:38:39Joanna had been put front and centre by Lord Sugar when he made her

0:38:39 > 0:38:43the project manager. And, of course, the win meant so much to her.

0:38:43 > 0:38:46She got really emotional in the boardroom

0:38:46 > 0:38:48and I think we saw a softer side to Joanna,

0:38:48 > 0:38:49and that was a good thing.

0:38:52 > 0:38:55Born and brought up in the Gambia, when she was five

0:38:55 > 0:38:57Joanna moved to the UK with her mum.

0:38:59 > 0:39:00It wasn't easy at all,

0:39:00 > 0:39:05and I think that made her really determined to do well for herself.

0:39:07 > 0:39:09Joanna worked hard at school,

0:39:09 > 0:39:13achieving 11 GCSEs and three A-levels.

0:39:13 > 0:39:16But she already had interests outside the classroom.

0:39:19 > 0:39:21She did a lot of things just to make money,

0:39:21 > 0:39:23cos she knew I wasn't able to help her in any way.

0:39:25 > 0:39:30The first job that I ever had was in a boutiquey little shop,

0:39:30 > 0:39:32but two men owned it.

0:39:32 > 0:39:36And they'd take me with them to the wholesalers and let me pick out the

0:39:36 > 0:39:39clothes that they wanted to stock within the shop.

0:39:39 > 0:39:41So, that was my first experience of buying,

0:39:41 > 0:39:44and I used to work every Saturday for £30.

0:39:44 > 0:39:48And, every Saturday, she used to bring home a bag full of clothes.

0:39:48 > 0:39:51And I kept saying to her, "Joanne, where's the money, then?"

0:39:51 > 0:39:54You know! But she never brought any money home.

0:39:54 > 0:39:58She was always spending that money on clothes.

0:40:00 > 0:40:04Joanna studied politics at Newcastle University.

0:40:04 > 0:40:07Graduating with a 2:1, she soon landed a job

0:40:07 > 0:40:08at a digital marketing firm.

0:40:10 > 0:40:14I first met Joanna when she joined our graduate programme.

0:40:14 > 0:40:17And she definitely stood out from over 100 people

0:40:17 > 0:40:19who had applied for that position.

0:40:19 > 0:40:23She impressed me with her drive, her intelligence.

0:40:23 > 0:40:27She definitely came across as someone with real business acumen

0:40:27 > 0:40:29for someone so young.

0:40:29 > 0:40:31Quite quickly, we realised that she had the talent and the capability

0:40:31 > 0:40:34to take on the full executive role.

0:40:36 > 0:40:40Joanna's successful career start didn't surprise her family.

0:40:42 > 0:40:46Her ambition is because she's seen how we struggled,

0:40:46 > 0:40:51and I think that made her think to herself, "I want to make some money,

0:40:51 > 0:40:54"I want to do this for myself, and I want to succeed."

0:40:56 > 0:40:59Making my family proud is always in the back of my mind.

0:40:59 > 0:41:03My mum's always, like, sacrificed certain stuff for me.

0:41:05 > 0:41:08And I think that's one of the reasons why I'm so ballsy

0:41:08 > 0:41:11and just going for certain opportunities because, if I don't,

0:41:11 > 0:41:15it's a bit of a slap in the face if I don't make the most out of them.

0:41:17 > 0:41:18Week nine.

0:41:20 > 0:41:21The recipe box task.

0:41:23 > 0:41:25And with just one loss so far,

0:41:25 > 0:41:28Joanna had emerged as a serious contender.

0:41:30 > 0:41:32Right, let's decide a team split.

0:41:32 > 0:41:36But now she faced another character test.

0:41:36 > 0:41:38I'll put Jade and Joanna on the branding team

0:41:38 > 0:41:42and Jade as sub-team leader, because I think it makes perfect sense

0:41:42 > 0:41:43to do that.

0:41:43 > 0:41:45And, given the job of cooking up a name...

0:41:45 > 0:41:47I'm going to get up and start jotting.

0:41:47 > 0:41:49..things quickly turned sour.

0:41:49 > 0:41:52I like Root Flavours, or Root Superfood.

0:41:52 > 0:41:54I really don't like that. It sounds...

0:41:54 > 0:41:57- I think it just sounds...- OK, but I'm just telling you what I like.

0:41:57 > 0:41:59When I worked with Jade, we'd clash anyway,

0:41:59 > 0:42:01and it was so hard for me to work with her.

0:42:01 > 0:42:03We've never wanted Root Flavours.

0:42:03 > 0:42:05That was my idea and you've just scratched it out.

0:42:05 > 0:42:08I just don't think it's down that route. Ha-ha!

0:42:08 > 0:42:11And for it to only be me and her,

0:42:11 > 0:42:14it was either speak to Jade or not speak at all.

0:42:14 > 0:42:16Out of those two, which is your favourite?

0:42:16 > 0:42:18To be honest, Jade, I don't want either of them,

0:42:18 > 0:42:19and I'm a bit annoyed...

0:42:19 > 0:42:20Then offer a solution!

0:42:20 > 0:42:23I have offered a solution, though.

0:42:23 > 0:42:25Joanna felt that Jade was dismissive of her ideas,

0:42:25 > 0:42:29and although she tried to rein in her emotions, eventually,

0:42:29 > 0:42:31they got the better of her.

0:42:31 > 0:42:33Can I just have a minute, please?

0:42:33 > 0:42:38It really upset me, especially when I was trying to learn from stuff,

0:42:38 > 0:42:41as a person. But I felt like I still couldn't shake that

0:42:41 > 0:42:43argumentative thing.

0:42:43 > 0:42:44So, it really bothered me.

0:42:44 > 0:42:45It still bothers me now.

0:42:47 > 0:42:48In the boardroom...

0:42:48 > 0:42:51Were you responsible for this, you two?

0:42:51 > 0:42:56- Yes.- ..Joanna and Jade's box put them in Lord Sugar's bad books.

0:42:56 > 0:42:58You must have spent ages thinking that up.

0:42:58 > 0:43:00It was an oversight, not putting the ingredients on the outside.

0:43:00 > 0:43:03Actually, I don't think it's fair to say it was an oversight

0:43:03 > 0:43:05because it is something that was brought to the table.

0:43:05 > 0:43:08Joanna, you sound like a broken record.

0:43:08 > 0:43:11All I keep hearing is that people take no notice of you.

0:43:11 > 0:43:13You can put your ideas in.

0:43:13 > 0:43:14If they don't get used,

0:43:14 > 0:43:17it doesn't mean you can go off into a strop over it.

0:43:17 > 0:43:20Had the team lost, and I think there was every chance that would happen,

0:43:20 > 0:43:23I don't think Joanna would have survived.

0:43:24 > 0:43:26- Oh, have we won? - You're shocked, aren't you?

0:43:26 > 0:43:28I'm very pleased it didn't come to that

0:43:28 > 0:43:31because I could see she really was trying to learn from her mistakes.

0:43:31 > 0:43:33OK, off you go.

0:43:33 > 0:43:34- Thank you.- Thank you.

0:43:34 > 0:43:37And I think that surviving that task made her even more determined

0:43:37 > 0:43:38to show she was worthy.

0:43:40 > 0:43:42- Good morning. - After a bruising week...

0:43:42 > 0:43:45You're going to act as fashion agents.

0:43:45 > 0:43:49..on the next task, Joanna seized the chance to play to her strengths.

0:43:50 > 0:43:53My business plan is about a fashion brand,

0:43:53 > 0:43:54so I would love to be project manager.

0:43:54 > 0:43:58- I thought so.- I thought fashion was the one thing that I was good at.

0:43:58 > 0:44:02I didn't want to prove myself wrong, in that sense.

0:44:02 > 0:44:06So, I want you to be, like, as if you're contemplating something.

0:44:07 > 0:44:08That looks sick.

0:44:10 > 0:44:13Welcome to Zaramia Ava's collection.

0:44:13 > 0:44:16Selling the clothes, Joanna was in her element.

0:44:16 > 0:44:19You might as well just take the whole one and I'll give you 10% off.

0:44:19 > 0:44:21- Go for it.- Yeah? - Yes! Well done.

0:44:21 > 0:44:24- In the boardroom... - Very good. There you go, Graphene.

0:44:24 > 0:44:25..the passion paid off.

0:44:25 > 0:44:27If that task had have gone wrong,

0:44:27 > 0:44:30I would have really second-guessed what I'm supposed to be doing,

0:44:30 > 0:44:32so it's really cemented, for me,

0:44:32 > 0:44:34that this business plan is what I'm good at.

0:44:34 > 0:44:37I'll see you in a few days' time, OK?

0:44:37 > 0:44:40- Thank you, Lord Sugar.- Well done. - She done an outstanding job.

0:44:40 > 0:44:44What a way to go out on week ten, to get yourself into the final five.

0:44:44 > 0:44:47I mean, everyone said she'd done a cracking job.

0:44:47 > 0:44:49Oh, my God!

0:44:49 > 0:44:51In Joanna, we now have someone with the best track record

0:44:51 > 0:44:53in the process.

0:44:53 > 0:44:54Oh!

0:44:54 > 0:44:56She's got two wins as project manager under her belt,

0:44:56 > 0:44:59one of which was in the area she actually wants to go

0:44:59 > 0:45:01into business with Lord Sugar,

0:45:01 > 0:45:03and that is, frankly, tick, tick, tick.

0:45:03 > 0:45:04I know you can do it.

0:45:04 > 0:45:08I love you, I miss you, and I'm so proud of you.

0:45:08 > 0:45:09I'm really proud of you.

0:45:09 > 0:45:12Keep going, I know you can win it.

0:45:12 > 0:45:13- Thank you.- Oh! Oh!

0:45:13 > 0:45:15I cannot believe that I'm still here.

0:45:15 > 0:45:17I'm not going to lie, I really, really can't.

0:45:17 > 0:45:18Well done, well done.

0:45:18 > 0:45:20I am barely out of uni.

0:45:20 > 0:45:21A little bit feisty.

0:45:21 > 0:45:25But I do feel as if my credibility's definitely grown,

0:45:25 > 0:45:28and I was definitely made to do this and I've got what it takes to

0:45:28 > 0:45:29make it a success.

0:45:29 > 0:45:31Thanks, guys. Thanks for all your help.

0:45:33 > 0:45:37Finally, last man standing, James White.

0:45:38 > 0:45:39There's no-one out there like me.

0:45:39 > 0:45:42At the age of 23, I was earning £100,000 a year.

0:45:43 > 0:45:46I succeed at everything that I do and there's no-one out there

0:45:46 > 0:45:47that's better than me.

0:45:49 > 0:45:50Self-assured...

0:45:50 > 0:45:52100%, 100%. Carry on, carry on, let's go.

0:45:52 > 0:45:54..city slicker...

0:45:54 > 0:45:58If the robot could go down like that and he went up like that.

0:45:58 > 0:45:59..super salesman.

0:46:01 > 0:46:02The moment I saw him, I thought,

0:46:02 > 0:46:05"Oh my God, I'm going to hate this guy."

0:46:05 > 0:46:07He's just the epitome of city boy

0:46:07 > 0:46:10and that is so far removed from where I'm at.

0:46:10 > 0:46:13But he's super lovely when you get past all of the

0:46:13 > 0:46:15"Oh, hello," stuff.

0:46:15 > 0:46:17Good day, guys, seriously.

0:46:17 > 0:46:20James, in many ways, is sort of the perfect candidate.

0:46:20 > 0:46:22He's young, he's ambitious, and he's good at what he does.

0:46:22 > 0:46:24All about the monies!

0:46:24 > 0:46:27But at times, I've wondered whether he is as talented

0:46:27 > 0:46:28as he is confident.

0:46:29 > 0:46:31Your first task.

0:46:31 > 0:46:33When James entered the process...

0:46:33 > 0:46:36You're going to manufacture your own burgers.

0:46:36 > 0:46:38..he soon found cutting a deal with Lord Sugar...

0:46:38 > 0:46:40We are after some turkey.

0:46:40 > 0:46:42..took more than just confidence.

0:46:42 > 0:46:44We were thinking £7 a kilo.

0:46:44 > 0:46:46Maybe 9.99.

0:46:46 > 0:46:49In the early tasks, the boys couldn't get it together.

0:46:49 > 0:46:50Do feel like a butcher yet, boys?

0:46:50 > 0:46:52CHEERING

0:46:52 > 0:46:53We're mincing!

0:46:53 > 0:46:55There was lack of strategy, shouting over each other,

0:46:55 > 0:46:59no listening, and it was not a good start.

0:46:59 > 0:47:01A loss. That is diabolical.

0:47:01 > 0:47:03That is really, really diabolical.

0:47:05 > 0:47:07The following week...

0:47:07 > 0:47:09These chairs, they look very luxury to me.

0:47:09 > 0:47:12..the boys were unhinged by hotel decor.

0:47:12 > 0:47:14We've spent 7,652 already.

0:47:14 > 0:47:15That's not a lot.

0:47:15 > 0:47:19In charge of the budget, James got more than he bargained for.

0:47:19 > 0:47:21Where did it all go wrong?

0:47:21 > 0:47:23This process is very intense.

0:47:23 > 0:47:25I'm not the reason for the failure of this task.

0:47:25 > 0:47:27The thing is that you were the sub-team leader, right?

0:47:27 > 0:47:30Yeah. I got thrown in the deep end because, week two,

0:47:30 > 0:47:31neck was on the line.

0:47:31 > 0:47:33Lord Sugar was trying to fire me.

0:47:33 > 0:47:34I'm, like, "I haven't even got going yet!

0:47:34 > 0:47:37"Please, just give me another chance."

0:47:37 > 0:47:40I think you did miss a trick here, but it is early in the process.

0:47:40 > 0:47:43James didn't have to check out.

0:47:43 > 0:47:45- Go back to the house.- Thank you. - Thank you, Lord Sugar.

0:47:45 > 0:47:47But when another week brought another loss...

0:47:47 > 0:47:50This is the third task and the third task you've lost.

0:47:50 > 0:47:52..things looked desperate for James.

0:47:52 > 0:47:54This is a bloody shambles, you lot.

0:47:54 > 0:47:57I'm not impressed at all.

0:47:57 > 0:48:00Out of the final five, I've got the worst record over the ten tasks.

0:48:00 > 0:48:02Go back to the house.

0:48:02 > 0:48:05But what I will say today is that I'd rather start bad, finish strong

0:48:05 > 0:48:06than the other way round.

0:48:06 > 0:48:08So, I'm still here, aren't I?

0:48:08 > 0:48:09Last boy standing.

0:48:10 > 0:48:13From a young age, James showed a passion for cash.

0:48:15 > 0:48:20When James was ten, he started to get his entrepreneurial ways.

0:48:20 > 0:48:22He wouldn't go and play sports like other people did.

0:48:22 > 0:48:23He went out earning money.

0:48:25 > 0:48:28Myself and my best friend started a car washing business.

0:48:28 > 0:48:29It was called Star Wash.

0:48:29 > 0:48:33He had his own little cart and he'd wheel it around the town,

0:48:33 > 0:48:36and he would go to all the houses that got cars, knock on the doors.

0:48:36 > 0:48:39We done really well. We were earning a couple of hundred pounds on a

0:48:39 > 0:48:41weekend just from doing some cars.

0:48:41 > 0:48:44James used to come round, walk my dog, clean my car.

0:48:44 > 0:48:47We used to mess the cars up before he would clean them to generate a

0:48:47 > 0:48:49little bit of extra work.

0:48:49 > 0:48:52Just a general wheeler and dealer, basically.

0:48:52 > 0:48:56When he was at school, he would sell drinks, he would sell sweets.

0:48:56 > 0:48:59And then he was doing his three paper rounds during the week.

0:48:59 > 0:49:02He would just do anything to earn money.

0:49:02 > 0:49:04I mean, his nickname was Del Boy because he was always wheeling

0:49:04 > 0:49:07- and dealing.- Honestly, when I go back, everyone still calls me that.

0:49:07 > 0:49:09I go into the local pub, they're like, "Oh, Del Boy!"

0:49:09 > 0:49:11I'm like, "Yeah, you all right?"

0:49:12 > 0:49:15After James' initial losing streak...

0:49:16 > 0:49:19- Go on, then.- ..three wins brought him back from the brink.

0:49:19 > 0:49:21And in week seven...

0:49:21 > 0:49:24You have to come up with an advertising campaign

0:49:24 > 0:49:27to launch a brand-new car.

0:49:27 > 0:49:29..James made his move.

0:49:29 > 0:49:32- I'm happy to lead it. - Yep, fine.- Perfect.

0:49:32 > 0:49:34Being a good manager is about listening to your team

0:49:34 > 0:49:36and taking on their ideas.

0:49:36 > 0:49:38Picture it - mum comes out of a house,

0:49:38 > 0:49:40she's got a million, trillion things going on,

0:49:40 > 0:49:42and her hair's not done properly.

0:49:42 > 0:49:44But it's also about being firm.

0:49:44 > 0:49:46She puts her handbag on the roof of the car.

0:49:46 > 0:49:48As she drives off, her handbag flicks off the side,

0:49:48 > 0:49:50but she's on her way to work.

0:49:50 > 0:49:54I was really surprised how he let his team railroad him, and he,

0:49:54 > 0:49:56in effect, just took a back-seat.

0:49:56 > 0:49:57It's funny.

0:49:58 > 0:49:59OK, good.

0:50:00 > 0:50:03But Elizabeth steered her vision through.

0:50:03 > 0:50:06You've got her leaving her old life behind and, at that point,

0:50:06 > 0:50:08we're revealing the car's brand, and then she's gone,

0:50:08 > 0:50:11she's into the real world, she's back in the 21st century.

0:50:11 > 0:50:13I've got an idea with the music as well.

0:50:13 > 0:50:15# I've got the key, I've got the secret. #

0:50:15 > 0:50:18Cut it there and then just go to boom, boom, boom, ba-doom, boom,

0:50:18 > 0:50:20and then you can take that down and go, "Expando."

0:50:20 > 0:50:23MUSIC: The Key, The Secret by Urban Cookie Collective

0:50:23 > 0:50:25I didn't hear a peep from him, and that lack of leadership

0:50:25 > 0:50:27was seriously worrying.

0:50:27 > 0:50:29Shoo!

0:50:29 > 0:50:32The result, a car crash.

0:50:32 > 0:50:35Expando sounds like some sort of form of elastication of garments.

0:50:37 > 0:50:41My worst moment was the advertising task.

0:50:41 > 0:50:44I kind of knew we'd lost it before we'd even got in the boardroom.

0:50:44 > 0:50:46I've got to tell you, that is a terrible TV advert.

0:50:46 > 0:50:49When I look back at it now, it was embarrassing to watch.

0:50:49 > 0:50:52And I was so close to being fired,

0:50:52 > 0:50:54I could feel the finger hovering around me.

0:50:54 > 0:50:56I was just, like, trying to, like, "Don't fire me.

0:50:56 > 0:50:58"Please don't fire me."

0:50:59 > 0:51:01You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to say this.

0:51:02 > 0:51:04I can't give you any more warnings, OK?

0:51:04 > 0:51:06All go back to the house.

0:51:06 > 0:51:09James survived the boardroom, but the question was - what would he do

0:51:09 > 0:51:13with that defeat? And if there was any moment that James' future

0:51:13 > 0:51:15in the process lay in the balance, it was that one.

0:51:17 > 0:51:20But bouncing back is in James' blood.

0:51:20 > 0:51:24When he was born, his family lived in a caravan park.

0:51:24 > 0:51:27Just a few years earlier, his father's fortunes

0:51:27 > 0:51:29had been very different.

0:51:29 > 0:51:31My dad was in business.

0:51:31 > 0:51:33He sold high-end fur and leather coats.

0:51:33 > 0:51:36I mean, like, high-end. He sold a coat for £50,000.

0:51:36 > 0:51:39Had loads of money. He was living in a nine-bedroom house.

0:51:39 > 0:51:42He had, like, a sports car on the drive.

0:51:42 > 0:51:44If you work hard, you benefit from it.

0:51:44 > 0:51:46But then people stopped buying furs.

0:51:46 > 0:51:48So, I just closed up.

0:51:50 > 0:51:53He'd basically went down and lost everything.

0:51:53 > 0:51:56His house, he lost his first marriage.

0:51:56 > 0:51:59And then he just went back into work then.

0:51:59 > 0:52:01He worked for, like, a furniture store as manager.

0:52:01 > 0:52:03He didn't really ever go back into business.

0:52:03 > 0:52:05I think he took it hard after he lost it.

0:52:07 > 0:52:09Determined to make it to the top,

0:52:09 > 0:52:12James studied international business.

0:52:13 > 0:52:15We know James from university, in first year.

0:52:15 > 0:52:18I think we both... Both hated him straightaway?

0:52:18 > 0:52:21I... Yeah, I definitely disliked him at first.

0:52:21 > 0:52:22- Yeah.- He was too arrogant.

0:52:22 > 0:52:26But once you get to know him, he's got a heart of gold.

0:52:26 > 0:52:27No, he hasn't!

0:52:29 > 0:52:30By the time we got to third year,

0:52:30 > 0:52:33he just suddenly became obsessed with making it, with making money

0:52:33 > 0:52:35and being successful.

0:52:35 > 0:52:37I think he was like, "It's time to knuckle down and do something

0:52:37 > 0:52:40"with my life." And I think he left us behind a little bit!

0:52:40 > 0:52:43I think he was kind of like, "Right, I'm going to crack on!"

0:52:44 > 0:52:48After graduating, James got a job in recruitment

0:52:48 > 0:52:50and quickly rose through the ranks.

0:52:50 > 0:52:52Do you believe he's too senior for the role,

0:52:52 > 0:52:55in terms of his experience? I mean, he's worked at...

0:52:55 > 0:52:59In 2016, James set up his own recruitment firm.

0:52:59 > 0:53:02This is the office. We've just recently moved in.

0:53:02 > 0:53:04We've got four in at the moment, two of the guys are out,

0:53:04 > 0:53:08and we've got three new starters on Monday.

0:53:08 > 0:53:10This is James' desk.

0:53:13 > 0:53:16I think that's his cheesy mantra that he uses.

0:53:16 > 0:53:18To be honest, I don't think he needs it.

0:53:19 > 0:53:23Earning a six-figure salary at just 22,

0:53:23 > 0:53:26James has been able to share his success.

0:53:26 > 0:53:28James is thoughtful.

0:53:28 > 0:53:30He's done so much to help me.

0:53:31 > 0:53:35When I hit 65, he paid for me to go on a Nile Cruise.

0:53:36 > 0:53:41Because I just love Egypt, and he paid for it.

0:53:41 > 0:53:43I've got a lot of love for my dad.

0:53:43 > 0:53:46And I want to be successful in his lifetime

0:53:46 > 0:53:49and be able to give him the life back that he once knew.

0:53:50 > 0:53:52For him to be, like, proud...

0:53:52 > 0:53:54He is proud anyway, but do you know what I mean?

0:53:54 > 0:53:55I want him to be really proud.

0:53:57 > 0:53:59Good morning, everyone.

0:53:59 > 0:54:00Week eight.

0:54:00 > 0:54:04I've organised for you to take over a doggie daycare centre.

0:54:04 > 0:54:07Determined to prove he could shake off defeat...

0:54:07 > 0:54:11- Off you go. - ..James made a bold move.

0:54:11 > 0:54:15Biggest moment for me was after I lost the advertising task

0:54:15 > 0:54:16as project manager.

0:54:16 > 0:54:18I've got two dogs.

0:54:18 > 0:54:21And I decided on the next one to step up as project manager.

0:54:21 > 0:54:24I use doggie care facilities all the time.

0:54:25 > 0:54:28I think you've got to give real credit to somebody

0:54:28 > 0:54:31who puts their neck on the line after having lost the previous task.

0:54:31 > 0:54:33You appear to be qualified for the job.

0:54:33 > 0:54:35Cool, brilliant. So, I'll be project manager.

0:54:35 > 0:54:38Cos, let's face it, if you lose two in a row as project manager,

0:54:38 > 0:54:40you're probably for the chop.

0:54:40 > 0:54:43We're actually offering super scoopers services today in the area.

0:54:43 > 0:54:45- Come in.- Oh, brilliant.- Cheers.

0:54:45 > 0:54:47Gave it absolutely everything.

0:54:47 > 0:54:51I mean, I was picking up dog poo for two days, so, you know,

0:54:51 > 0:54:52I did give it everything.

0:54:52 > 0:54:54Right, we've done the dog poo.

0:54:54 > 0:54:55Perfect.

0:54:55 > 0:54:57- And there's the receipt for you. - Brilliant.

0:54:57 > 0:54:59James sold well, led well,

0:54:59 > 0:55:02and I'd say that was one of the most competent performances I've seen.

0:55:02 > 0:55:04- Solid, mate, well done. Come on! - Brilliant.

0:55:04 > 0:55:06- Get in there!- Let's go.

0:55:06 > 0:55:08James, project manager.

0:55:08 > 0:55:11That's rather unusual, one week after the other.

0:55:11 > 0:55:12It was the right task for me.

0:55:12 > 0:55:15It was sales, negotiation,

0:55:15 > 0:55:18and I wanted to demonstrate that I had the skills to take it on.

0:55:18 > 0:55:22This time, top dog James led his pack to victory.

0:55:22 > 0:55:25Congratulations, and I'll see you on the next task.

0:55:26 > 0:55:29To go back into the boardroom, it was like a sense of relief.

0:55:29 > 0:55:32It was like my deal-breaker moment, because if I'd lost back-to-back

0:55:32 > 0:55:35project manager tasks, I'd be gone.

0:55:35 > 0:55:37And that, for me, was my standout moment.

0:55:37 > 0:55:39Get some bubbles on, boys!

0:55:39 > 0:55:41In the interviews, James is going to be really good.

0:55:41 > 0:55:43He works in recruitment.

0:55:43 > 0:55:45He knows the ins and outs of all interview techniques.

0:55:45 > 0:55:47Lovely, we'll get you signed up.

0:55:47 > 0:55:49If anybody's going to be prepared for spanners in the works

0:55:49 > 0:55:51in interview, it's James.

0:55:51 > 0:55:53So, this is where the magic happens.

0:55:53 > 0:55:56James has definitely got it what it takes to win The Apprentice.

0:55:56 > 0:55:59He's a succeeder, he's the guy that will win.

0:55:59 > 0:56:00He's a winner, he's a winner.

0:56:01 > 0:56:05I'm in the mind-set currently - you know what, bring it on.

0:56:05 > 0:56:09Yeah, you can throw your curveballs at me, but I'll come out fighting.

0:56:09 > 0:56:10I'm not going to fold under the pressure,

0:56:10 > 0:56:12I'm going to give my absolute all

0:56:12 > 0:56:15and I'm going to make sure that Claude goes back into that boardroom

0:56:15 > 0:56:17and says, "Do you know what, Lord Sugar,

0:56:17 > 0:56:18"you need to have James in that final,"

0:56:18 > 0:56:20cos I want to be in that final.

0:56:25 > 0:56:26Go on, Del Boy!

0:56:26 > 0:56:29James, you're doing an amazing job, keep it up, bud.

0:56:29 > 0:56:31Doing well. Brilliant! Come on!

0:56:36 > 0:56:37Next for the final five...

0:56:39 > 0:56:41..their most gruelling task to date.

0:56:42 > 0:56:45Can't see this going down well today.

0:56:45 > 0:56:46The interviews.

0:56:46 > 0:56:48Final five, here I come.

0:56:48 > 0:56:52I haven't just sort of turned up and then ended up in the final five.

0:56:52 > 0:56:54I've given it my absolute all.

0:56:54 > 0:56:56You know, I deserve to be here.

0:56:56 > 0:56:59I've come this far. I'm not here just to get to the final five.

0:56:59 > 0:57:02I'm here to walk away with £250,000.

0:57:02 > 0:57:05I feel like I'm getting ready to go to my own funeral.

0:57:05 > 0:57:07I know what happens in these interviews,

0:57:07 > 0:57:10I know they're going to do whatever they can, they're going to make me

0:57:10 > 0:57:12look ridiculous. I honestly don't care.

0:57:12 > 0:57:15I know this business inside out, I know the figures inside out.

0:57:16 > 0:57:18I'm going to win Lord Sugar's investment

0:57:18 > 0:57:20because I've got a totally original idea.

0:57:20 > 0:57:24I'm aware that I'm still quite young, so I 100% need that guidance.

0:57:24 > 0:57:26But it's an idea for the next generation,

0:57:26 > 0:57:28so why wouldn't you pick it?

0:57:28 > 0:57:31I went from one business to three in one day.

0:57:31 > 0:57:33Bloody hell, who could do that?

0:57:33 > 0:57:35I've also got a fantastic business opportunity

0:57:35 > 0:57:37that I wish to present to the world.

0:57:39 > 0:57:42I'm so lucky to be here, but I intend to make that count

0:57:42 > 0:57:45and I intend to make sure that, coming out of those interviews,

0:57:45 > 0:57:47I'm in that final two.

0:57:47 > 0:57:48It's just game on.

0:57:53 > 0:57:55- Good morning. - ALL:- Good morning, Lord Sugar.
