:04:10. > :05:14.lucky winners: Now, after the huge success

:05:15. > :05:16.of the Olympics and Team GB, we're looking

:05:17. > :05:18.forward to the Paralympics. Tonight we meet para-canoeist

:05:19. > :05:33.Nick Beighton as he makes My name's Nick Beighton, I'm a

:05:34. > :05:38.parakayaker. I always wanted to join the military from a young age. I did

:05:39. > :05:43.all my training and served for nine years in the end. In 2009 I was on

:05:44. > :05:52.tour in Afghanistan with an infantry company. I was unlucky enough to

:05:53. > :05:55.stand on an IUD on a foot patrol. It caused catastrophic injuries and

:05:56. > :06:00.changed my life. The military was a big part of my life. To move beyond

:06:01. > :06:04.that you need a focus, a reason to get up day to day, and to have the

:06:05. > :06:08.goals to push yourself to be fitter and stronger. Sport has a lot of the

:06:09. > :06:13.same elements that being in the military does. So it's been a really

:06:14. > :06:21.nice transition to be able to come into the sport post military. Ready,

:06:22. > :06:35.set, go! To be quite a good paddler you need

:06:36. > :06:40.strength across the whole body. With Nick he's a bilateral amputee, but

:06:41. > :06:44.he has good hip drive. The ability to rotate is important in kayaking.

:06:45. > :06:48.It is how you enter and exit the blade. You are trying to get as much

:06:49. > :06:53.rotation through the torso as possible. The idea would be the

:06:54. > :06:59.athlete enters the blade there, lock it in, rotate and exit the blade to

:07:00. > :07:03.the side. He will repeat this at 120 stroke rate per minute. Nick came

:07:04. > :07:09.from rowing, so he was used to going backwards. We got him into the boat

:07:10. > :07:14.and he needs to go forwards. His progression within the sport has

:07:15. > :07:18.been incredibly quick. It is still going. We are just waiting to find

:07:19. > :07:23.out whether the Paralympics have come a little too soon to see the

:07:24. > :07:27.best in Nick. I've only been in the boat 18 months, probably only in the

:07:28. > :07:30.last two or three months have I felt comfortable technically with what

:07:31. > :07:34.I'm delivering. I definitely think there's a lot more to come. He's

:07:35. > :07:39.going to be number one in the world, no doubt about it, because he's got

:07:40. > :07:41.the determination, the characteristics, the single

:07:42. > :07:45.mindedness which is needed of an elite athlete. With the team around

:07:46. > :07:50.him supporting him, he's got everything he needs to do that, if

:07:51. > :07:55.he decides to. What a brilliant film. Now more Millionaire Raffle

:07:56. > :08:51.event numbers. Thank you Alan. I'll see you next

:08:52. > :08:57.Saturday Have a good weekend everybody. Bye-bye.

:08:58. > :09:12.I will bring you down if I ever catch you up to something larcenous.
