0:01:09 > 0:01:12This is the new Ford GT.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16Yes, it's American.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18Yes, it's a car.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20And, yes, it is super.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22And for starters, it looks great!

0:01:25 > 0:01:28I think it's the best-looking American car this century.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Practically the whole thing is made out of carbon fibre and aluminum.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12It's an American car and we're in America,

0:02:12 > 0:02:13so it's aluminum.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19And all those cutting-edge components are needed

0:05:11 > 0:05:14The designers come up with a gorgeous, sleek concept,

0:05:18 > 0:05:22and, then, the departments get involved.

0:05:22 > 0:05:24There's the guy from the Cup-Holders Department,

0:05:24 > 0:05:28who wants to make sure there's room for his 30-ounce Big Slurp.

0:05:28 > 0:05:29Then there's the guy

0:05:29 > 0:05:32from the Sports And Leisure Luggage Department,

0:05:32 > 0:05:36who wants to make sure there's room for his golf sticks.

0:05:36 > 0:05:40And then there's the guy from the Making Sure Fat Guys Fit Department,

0:05:40 > 0:05:44who wants to make sure there's room for his...

0:05:44 > 0:05:46..fat guy.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48Now, after all their demands have been met,

0:05:48 > 0:05:50you don't have a supercar any more.

0:05:50 > 0:05:53No, no, no. What you have...

0:05:58 > 0:06:02But the GT feels like it's been crafted by specialists,

0:06:58 > 0:07:01but, by supercar standards, it's kind of short on cylinders.

0:07:06 > 0:07:10a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6, to be exact.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14And that could be a problem.

0:07:17 > 0:07:21Because this car is inspired by the GT40,

0:07:21 > 0:07:24the greatest American race car of all time,

0:07:24 > 0:07:29- powered by one of the most iconic- V8s- ever.

0:07:30 > 0:07:35Created in the 1960s, its aim was to end Ferrari's domination

0:07:35 > 0:07:37at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

0:07:38 > 0:07:41Up against Ferrari's highly-strung V12s,

0:07:41 > 0:07:44Ford used the reliable brawn of a seven-litre V8.

0:07:46 > 0:07:47It worked.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49The GT40 didn't just become the first American car

0:07:49 > 0:07:51to win at Le Mans -

0:07:51 > 0:07:54it went one, two, three and locked out the podium.

0:07:54 > 0:07:56Ferrari were humiliated.

0:07:56 > 0:07:58They'd never win Le Mans again.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05Now, listen to the internet and the internet will tell you

0:08:05 > 0:08:10that Ford ditching the V8 in the new GT isn't just misguided,

0:08:10 > 0:08:12it's unpatriotic.

0:08:13 > 0:08:17But the original GT40 didn't have a V8 because it was American -

0:08:17 > 0:08:20it had a V8 because it was the right tool for the job.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23And so is this new V6.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25Yeah, sure, Ford could have stuck a V8 in here,

0:08:25 > 0:08:27but that would have made the car heavier, bigger,

0:08:27 > 0:08:29less aerodynamic, less agile.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35It's just got such a balanced feel. So well sorted. It's just...
