0:00:10 > 0:00:15Including a cleaner, a beauty queen and an OAP,

0:00:15 > 0:00:21who will put their courage, their strength, and their bodies to the test.

0:00:21 > 0:00:27At stake, a £10,000 cash prize and the Total Wipeout title.

0:00:27 > 0:00:33All to be won on one of the most breathtaking obstacle courses ever created.

0:00:33 > 0:00:34Let the games begin.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40Welcome to Total Wipeout. We're here to watch 20 ordinary British men and

0:00:40 > 0:00:44women take on the world's hardest and most ridiculous obstacle course.

0:00:44 > 0:00:49They're going to get wet, they're going to get muddy and they're going to fall over an awful lot.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52This is how today's contest is going to work.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55The Qualifier.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57The Sweeper.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59Dizzy Dummies.

0:00:59 > 0:01:04And the grand final, the Wipeout Zone.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06I told you, ridiculous.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08So first, it's the Qualifier.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11Only the fastest 12 will make it into the next round.

0:01:11 > 0:01:15Let's see the obstacles that stand in the way of today's plucky contestants.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23Our 20 contenders must first try and cross

0:01:23 > 0:01:27the precariously-balanced Topple Towers without getting a face full of mud.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Then it's the Sucker Punch, a non-stop barrage

0:01:32 > 0:01:36of 22 hard-hitting boxing gloves and more of the brown stuff.

0:01:36 > 0:01:41Then it's a race across what the Argentineans call Las Bolas Grandes.

0:01:41 > 0:01:46We've translated that loosely as the Big Balls.

0:01:46 > 0:01:50Once they've bounced their way across those Big Balls, or possibly fallen in,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52it's on to the giant rope swing,

0:01:52 > 0:01:56landing on that narrow ledge at which point the clock is stopped.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00You see? What could be simpler than that?

0:02:00 > 0:02:04Apart from, say, watching other people do it all from the comfort of your sofa?

0:02:04 > 0:02:09Let's cross over to the other member of the Wipeout team, the lovely Amanda Byram,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11who's on the course with our competitors

0:02:11 > 0:02:14to offer a big dose of encouragement when the going gets tough.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Which it will.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Now I'm joined by the very lovely Stacey. How are you doing?

0:02:19 > 0:02:21I'm very good, thank you.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24You're one of our more sporty contestants, I believe?

0:02:24 > 0:02:25What do you do for a living?

0:02:25 > 0:02:29I'm a PE teacher, so all-round sports.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31Tell me a few of the sports that you do?

0:02:31 > 0:02:35I've done kick-boxing, rowing, netball, football, rugby, hockey.

0:02:35 > 0:02:40So, this is Stacey, or as the kids of 3E like to call her, Miss Fletcher.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42This is for all the kids that I teach.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45If you put your mind to it you can do anything!

0:02:45 > 0:02:46HORN BLARES

0:02:46 > 0:02:48And Stacey's off.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Off the course and in the water.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55Come on, Miss Fletcher!

0:02:55 > 0:02:57There we go, now she's looking like a woman on a mission.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02Or maybe Bambi on ice.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04To stay in the competition she needs to

0:03:04 > 0:03:07get round this course as quickly as possible.

0:03:07 > 0:03:08No!

0:03:10 > 0:03:14Those first Topple Towers have already stopped her in her tracks.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Come on, Stacey, you can do anything if you put your mind to it!

0:03:17 > 0:03:21I did warn you about that mud, didn't I?

0:03:21 > 0:03:25Can she do any better on the second set?

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Regroup her thoughts, prepare to fight. Here she goes.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Er, no.

0:03:29 > 0:03:34Those wipeouts are costing her valuable time.

0:03:34 > 0:03:38She's thinking bad things, children, but she's not saying them out loud.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41That's determination.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44Right there.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47Just a little trot, now, around the corner to the Sucker Punch.

0:03:49 > 0:03:5122 boxing gloves, they are all randomly aimed.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54Nobody's timing them, they happen when they happen.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56Good luck, Miss Fletcher.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59Make up some time now.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08As the clock ticks on, that mud continues to sap Miss Fletcher's strength.

0:04:12 > 0:04:14Come on, Stacey. You can do it!

0:04:16 > 0:04:19Now on BBC One, Charlie Dimmock's Extreme Gardening.

0:04:25 > 0:04:2919 other competitors are waiting in the wings to beat this time.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31Get a move on, come on.

0:04:31 > 0:04:32Stacey, full of energy

0:04:32 > 0:04:35as she approaches the Big Balls. Look at that enthusiasm.

0:04:35 > 0:04:39Just like Stacey says, she tells the young children that she teaches,

0:04:39 > 0:04:41you can do anything...

0:04:44 > 0:04:47..if you put your mind to it!

0:04:47 > 0:04:52So our first competitor, Stacey, only manages to get as far as the second big ball.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54But she's not out of the competition,

0:04:54 > 0:04:58just loses more precious time by having a little swim to the ladder at the end.

0:04:58 > 0:05:03Come on, Miss Fletcher, this is the last chance to make your class proud.

0:05:03 > 0:05:05One swing, land on the ledge, job done.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07She's done it!

0:05:07 > 0:05:10No, she hasn't.

0:05:10 > 0:05:14As before, the clock ticks on as Stacey has to climb the stairs

0:05:14 > 0:05:21to set our first qualifier time of 4:26.

0:05:25 > 0:05:27It's so much harder than what you think.

0:05:27 > 0:05:34In mud, it kills your legs. I tried my best, so that's all I could do.

0:05:34 > 0:05:39OK, Miss Fletcher has set the time to beat, and you've seen just how tough this challenge is.

0:05:39 > 0:05:44Let's go straight back to the course, where Amanda is joined by today's second competitor,

0:05:44 > 0:05:48Thomas Thomson, a 27 year-old account manager from London.

0:05:48 > 0:05:52When Thomas isn't doing his day job, he's a part-time model

0:05:52 > 0:05:55and says he's competitive in every aspect of his life.

0:05:55 > 0:05:58Don't be fooled by this pretty face, cos you is going down.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01Yeah. He's at the top of the course with Amanda.

0:06:01 > 0:06:08There are a lot of fit guys here today, a lot of muscly, strong, fit boys. Hunks, like yourself.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11Is there anyone in particular you're afraid of?

0:06:11 > 0:06:14I think I'm more scared of the tiny girls in Lycra, actually.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17Cos they've got the fire in them, you can see it in their eyes.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20They won't give up easily. They're more of a threat.

0:06:20 > 0:06:24I'm doing this course to show people I'm not just a pretty face!

0:06:24 > 0:06:28Well, he's certainly keyed up, but will the shouting help?

0:06:28 > 0:06:31Down the ramp, straight into the water,

0:06:31 > 0:06:33soaked through in under five seconds.

0:06:33 > 0:06:35- It's cold!- A lot of noise.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37He's screaming like a little girl!

0:06:40 > 0:06:43Let's see how he handles the Topple Towers.

0:06:43 > 0:06:47For this he'll need precision, agility, poise.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50He'll need to get his trainers cleaned afterwards!

0:06:52 > 0:06:54Just look at the concentration.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56It says, "Yes, I'm going to clear it.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58"No, this isn't going as I planned."

0:07:00 > 0:07:04Much better job on the second set of Topple Towers, though. Clears those.

0:07:04 > 0:07:08Can he keep up this good time when he gets to the Sucker Punch?

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Here he goes. This should be good.

0:07:11 > 0:07:15This is a daunting prospect. 22 of those gloves.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19He really is, he's using a rock climbers' grip

0:07:19 > 0:07:21to lean out from the gloves.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24He's still screaming, but he's not getting punched.

0:07:24 > 0:07:25He's cleared it!

0:07:27 > 0:07:29I doubt that will be bettered.

0:07:31 > 0:07:36Right, psyching himself up for the Big Balls by shouting at them.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39It might help, it might well help.

0:07:40 > 0:07:44- It... No.- He just face planted!

0:07:44 > 0:07:50Thomas says that if he wins the show, he'll go trekking across the Himalayas.

0:07:50 > 0:07:52Getting some practice here, maybe?

0:07:52 > 0:07:54Crossing big things.

0:07:54 > 0:07:58Just watch. He gracefully launches himself from the first ball, then the reverse pike.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00He won't be happy with that entry.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02I give him 3.5.

0:08:05 > 0:08:10Like Stacey, the clock keeps ticking as Thomas climbs up the ladder.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13Unlike Stacey, though, his time looking much faster.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15And he's stopped that screaming.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19Ms Fletcher couldn't do it,

0:08:19 > 0:08:21can Thomas land on the ledge?

0:08:23 > 0:08:24That's a no.

0:08:24 > 0:08:26No, he can't.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Thomas has finally made it to the end

0:08:32 > 0:08:35with a very respectable time of 2:16.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38Will it be good enough to get him into the top 12?

0:08:38 > 0:08:40SCREAMS

0:08:40 > 0:08:42Only dogs can hear that celebration.

0:08:46 > 0:08:50The Big Balls, man! How anyone can get over them...

0:08:50 > 0:08:54I'll take my hat off to them, because it's really hard. But it's really good fun.

0:08:54 > 0:08:58To get over those balls, you really have to use your head.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00Just not like that, Thomas.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05So, that was two young guns falling off obstacles and landing in mud.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08But there's a lot more to Total Wipeout than that. Oh yes!

0:09:08 > 0:09:12We've also got some older competitors falling off obstacles and landing in mud.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15I give you the over-30s.

0:09:15 > 0:09:20And what fine specimens of prime British men they are.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22Me versus the course, bring it on!

0:09:22 > 0:09:27This is Mark, a 37 year-old head of chemistry from Nottingham.

0:09:28 > 0:09:32Here, doing an experiment to see what happens when you mix mud with pain.

0:09:36 > 0:09:41Forget chemistry, Mark's now going to teach us some physics on the Big Balls.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43That's how gravity works, kids.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45I must be honest, I'm here to win.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Have you seen the other contestants?

0:09:47 > 0:09:51Fighting talk, there, from 45-year-old council officer Elias,

0:09:51 > 0:09:53who seems to be doing it in his work shoes.

0:09:53 > 0:09:55For my kids, Ellen and Amy.

0:09:55 > 0:09:59Your mother went through childbirth, I'm going through Total Wipeout.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01Which is worse. 41-year-old house-husband Chris,

0:10:01 > 0:10:05who is going to make his two daughters cringe behind the sofa.

0:10:07 > 0:10:12Elias having a bit of trouble with the mud, there, but he'll be out.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15I may be the oldest, but I'll show these youngsters a thing or two.

0:10:15 > 0:10:20Terry is our oldest competitor at 59, a retired HGV driver.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23Here to show the young ones a thing or two.

0:10:23 > 0:10:27Putting on a good show for the oldies. Now the Balls.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33He's a sturdy fella, but strangely graceful.

0:10:35 > 0:10:36See, that was elegant.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45I can't move!

0:10:45 > 0:10:47Now, we go back to poor Elias.

0:10:47 > 0:10:51This footage is actually from two weeks after the show finished filming.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53Elias has since opted for the quiet life

0:10:53 > 0:10:57and decided to set up home in his mud pool.

0:10:57 > 0:10:58He likes it there.

0:10:58 > 0:11:02GENTLE PIANO MUSIC

0:11:04 > 0:11:07And all this just goes to show

0:11:07 > 0:11:11the Total Wipeout course shows no age discrimination.

0:11:11 > 0:11:16It's happy to destroy both the young and the old.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18Oh, yes!

0:11:18 > 0:11:21A lot of joy, there.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26That's right, Elias, make yourself at home.

0:11:26 > 0:11:28Call that bit to the left the kitchen,

0:11:28 > 0:11:30that can be the living room.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33So, with just six competitors through the qualifier,

0:11:33 > 0:11:35let's take an early peak at the leaderboard.

0:11:35 > 0:11:39The best time so far is screaming Lord Thomas with 2 minutes 16 seconds.

0:11:39 > 0:11:42Then Miss Fletcher, and Daddy cool, Chris.

0:11:44 > 0:11:47They're followed by chemistry head Mark, Terry and poor Elias,

0:11:47 > 0:11:50our very own swamp thing who currently sits in last place

0:11:50 > 0:11:54with an excruciating time of 15 minutes and 7 seconds.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00It's all about getting into that top 12,

0:12:00 > 0:12:03because only they will make it through to the next round.

0:12:03 > 0:12:06Next up is 18-year-old Maria from Worcester.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08Maria describes herself as energetic, adventurous

0:12:08 > 0:12:10and a great fan of Chesney Hawkes.

0:12:10 > 0:12:14# I am the one and only! #

0:12:14 > 0:12:19When she's not singing, she's polishing her wide range of disco-dancing moves.

0:12:19 > 0:12:20Nobody is going to beat me.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23The big question, I suppose, is are you sporty?

0:12:23 > 0:12:25Yeah, I've done sport most of my life.

0:12:25 > 0:12:27I do tenpin bowling, that's my main sport.

0:12:27 > 0:12:29Is that a sport?

0:12:29 > 0:12:32Yeah, absolutely. It's not in the Olympics yet, but it soon will be.

0:12:32 > 0:12:35Oh yeah, that along with conkers and Morris dancing.

0:12:35 > 0:12:42#I am the one and only Nobody I'd rather be. #

0:12:42 > 0:12:44I'm going to beat you all.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46Excellent. Well, let's see.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49Right. She's off.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51She's in.

0:12:51 > 0:12:53Where's she gone? Where is she?

0:12:53 > 0:12:56Technically, that's not an obstacle,

0:12:56 > 0:12:59it's just the start of the course.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02I think this is going to take some time.

0:13:02 > 0:13:05Time is something she doesn't have on her side,

0:13:05 > 0:13:08because she's on her way now to the Topple Towers.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13It's harder than it looks. Not much harder, but a bit.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21She started so promisingly, too.

0:13:21 > 0:13:22Maria needs to dig deep,

0:13:22 > 0:13:25find a way of keeping her spirits high.

0:13:25 > 0:13:26Come on, I'm the one and only.

0:13:26 > 0:13:29Yes, you certainly are.

0:13:29 > 0:13:33# I am the one and only

0:13:33 > 0:13:37# Nobody I'd rather be. #

0:13:37 > 0:13:40I'm starting to really admire Maria's pluck.

0:13:40 > 0:13:42I think she can do this. You go, Maria.

0:13:45 > 0:13:49- I can't see! - What are you, Maria?

0:13:49 > 0:13:52- I can do this! - You are the what?

0:13:54 > 0:13:55Come on!

0:13:55 > 0:13:58Thanks. Amanda offers invaluable advice and support as ever.

0:13:58 > 0:14:01She's such a comfort to have on hand.

0:14:01 > 0:14:03Come on, Maria!

0:14:03 > 0:14:05This is amazing!

0:14:05 > 0:14:06It is.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09- Amazing isn't the word I would've used there, but...

0:14:09 > 0:14:10Out of the mud, come on!

0:14:10 > 0:14:13Yes, she's clear of it. She's clear.

0:14:13 > 0:14:14On to the Sucker Punch.

0:14:14 > 0:14:17Will she make it?

0:14:18 > 0:14:20OK, here we go.

0:14:23 > 0:14:24No, she won't.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27It's really warm. I can't see.

0:14:29 > 0:14:30Over here!

0:14:32 > 0:14:36Come on, you big fat balls.

0:14:36 > 0:14:41Maria's got a confident look in her eye, which tells me she's maybe got a strategy.

0:14:41 > 0:14:42Yeah, she has.

0:14:42 > 0:14:45Let me show you, she's simply going to leap from ball to ball

0:14:45 > 0:14:47by distributing her weight evenly,

0:14:47 > 0:14:51taking into account Newton's laws of motion, and clear the lot.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54Oh, she's fallen in.

0:14:56 > 0:14:58Come on, Maria! You can do it!

0:14:58 > 0:15:02Here is another one of Newton's laws, what goes up must come down.

0:15:08 > 0:15:11Standing on top of the ramp isn't supposed to be an obstacle.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14There, there we go. Come on, Maria.

0:15:14 > 0:15:16She's tough, this girl.

0:15:16 > 0:15:18Dig deep, it's for Chesney.

0:15:19 > 0:15:20Let's get the rope.

0:15:20 > 0:15:21Oh, yes!

0:15:21 > 0:15:23Every move a little celebration.

0:15:23 > 0:15:28- Here she goes. - Just a swing, land on the ledge.

0:15:28 > 0:15:30There you go, perfect.

0:15:30 > 0:15:33Or not.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37The one and only Maria finishes the Qualifier.

0:15:37 > 0:15:41Let's hope her time is good enough to get her into the next round,

0:15:41 > 0:15:43cos she worked hard enough for it, she deserves it.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45Woo! Woo!

0:15:45 > 0:15:47Don't know what that is.

0:15:47 > 0:15:48I'm a winner!

0:15:48 > 0:15:49Yes, you are.

0:15:52 > 0:15:54I can't breathe!

0:15:56 > 0:16:03I'm ecstatic, I'm so happy, but at the same time this mud tastes horrible.

0:16:03 > 0:16:05I'm finding it quite hard to breathe.

0:16:05 > 0:16:08I'm a bit dizzy.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10But other than that, this is amazing. Come on!

0:16:10 > 0:16:12I so want her to qualify!

0:16:12 > 0:16:15Next up is insurance surveyor Rich, from Southampton.

0:16:15 > 0:16:19Literally, nothing will stop me getting to the end of the course.

0:16:19 > 0:16:21I'm just literally going to run at them.

0:16:21 > 0:16:24Literally, I'll be staring at this course, psyching it out a bit.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27That's literally Rich, we're literally catching up with him

0:16:27 > 0:16:30literally halfway round the course.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33So let's see how he tries to psyche out the balls.

0:16:33 > 0:16:34Come on, you balls.

0:16:34 > 0:16:37Yes, using psychology on them. Clever. Come on, Rich,

0:16:37 > 0:16:39you can do this. Someone's got to.

0:16:39 > 0:16:42He's, he's... Not done it at all.

0:16:45 > 0:16:46Oh dear.

0:16:46 > 0:16:49It's an elaborate fall.

0:16:49 > 0:16:52It just all goes wrong after the first one.

0:17:00 > 0:17:02Still, another great time.

0:17:02 > 0:17:04He goes into the fastest 12.

0:17:09 > 0:17:14I literally can't begin to imagine how anyone is ever going to get over those big balls.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17Let's take another quick look at the leaderboard.

0:17:17 > 0:17:20Still in pole position, screaming Lord Thomas,

0:17:20 > 0:17:2310 seconds ahead of literally Rich. Then Miss Fletcher.

0:17:23 > 0:17:25They're followed by Daddy cool, Chris,

0:17:25 > 0:17:27chemistry head Mark and Terry.

0:17:27 > 0:17:31Even the one and only Maria has beaten poor Elias.

0:17:31 > 0:17:35Eight down, 12 more contenders to tackle the course.

0:17:36 > 0:17:40All of our competitors give a battle cry at the top of the course.

0:17:40 > 0:17:42Now it's HR manager Denise's turn.

0:17:42 > 0:17:45I'm going to race round this course...

0:17:45 > 0:17:49OK, a little nervous, there, Denise. Try again.

0:17:49 > 0:17:52I'm going to race round this course at the speed of light.

0:17:52 > 0:17:54Blink and you'll miss me.

0:17:54 > 0:17:56Just for reference the speed of light

0:17:56 > 0:18:01is 299,792,458 metres a second.

0:18:01 > 0:18:04Which is quite brisk, Denise.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08I think you may have overestimated your potential.

0:18:11 > 0:18:13She's just vanished in there.

0:18:13 > 0:18:16That didn't resemble the speed of light to me.

0:18:16 > 0:18:21Thanks Amanda, for your support once again. Second time lucky.

0:18:21 > 0:18:24Careful. Elias is still sleeping in there, somewhere.

0:18:24 > 0:18:26I'm actually stuck.

0:18:26 > 0:18:29Yeah, you've got your foot in his kitchen.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34Meanwhile, over at the Sucker Punch

0:18:34 > 0:18:38is 23-year-old business graduate Sam, who's doing the course properly.

0:18:38 > 0:18:41Well, when I say properly, I mean at speed.

0:18:41 > 0:18:43He still lives with his mum, but this...

0:18:43 > 0:18:47- That's his face, but it's a fast time overall.- Come on!

0:18:47 > 0:18:48Come on, Sam!

0:18:48 > 0:18:52And look, he's really chuffed.

0:18:52 > 0:18:57And don't forget, £10,000 awaits today's winner.

0:18:57 > 0:19:03Our next competitor says she plans to tackle the course with style, and fake nails and a perm.

0:19:03 > 0:19:05It's the current Miss Bournemouth.

0:19:05 > 0:19:1021-year-old make-up artist Charlene describes herself as bubbly.

0:19:10 > 0:19:11GIGGLES

0:19:11 > 0:19:13Chatty.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17GIGGLES

0:19:17 > 0:19:19And never lost for words.

0:19:19 > 0:19:22I'm a girly girl and I'm going to run round like this!

0:19:22 > 0:19:26I'm not 100% sure she's being sarcastic there.

0:19:26 > 0:19:27So she trades on her good looks.

0:19:27 > 0:19:32Let's hope the Sucker Punch doesn't rearrange them. Topple Towers first.

0:19:32 > 0:19:34She's still smiling.

0:19:34 > 0:19:38My hair extensions will all be out by now.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43The Sucker Punch. This is it, career at stake.

0:19:43 > 0:19:47One blow, it could all be over. Mind the hair! No, too late.

0:19:47 > 0:19:48Not all bad, though.

0:19:48 > 0:19:53That mud will detoxify, cleanse and firm her skin, and she will thank us for it.

0:19:53 > 0:19:55Onto the big balls, now.

0:19:59 > 0:20:02Cat-like, she's balancing. I've not seen that before.

0:20:02 > 0:20:06She's going for number two, and failing, quite painfully.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12She's spent more time... That's not the money-making side,

0:20:12 > 0:20:14it's the front of her head that's expensive.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17Tons of spirit, all she's got to do is balance on the ledge.

0:20:17 > 0:20:19Let go of the rope.

0:20:21 > 0:20:22There you go!

0:20:22 > 0:20:25That has improved things for her.

0:20:25 > 0:20:29A final time of 3:31, quite respectable.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32So, a pretty good time for Miss Bournemouth.

0:20:32 > 0:20:36The thing is, is it good enough to qualify in the top 12? We shall see.

0:20:36 > 0:20:40Let's go straight back to the course where Amanda is with our next competitor.

0:20:40 > 0:20:42You're a bit of a sporty fellow, aren't you?

0:20:42 > 0:20:45Yeah, I like to play a bit of rugby. I've always been active.

0:20:45 > 0:20:49- What team do you play for? - The Glantaff Goats.

0:20:49 > 0:20:53I know that the All Blacks have the haka haka haka thing that they do,

0:20:53 > 0:20:56- do you have any chants like that?- Yeah, we do.

0:20:56 > 0:20:58We have a thing called the goat sign.

0:20:58 > 0:21:00We sing a little song that goes...

0:21:00 > 0:21:03# Choo choo choo choo choo choo Choo choo choo. #

0:21:06 > 0:21:07I don't know what to say to that.

0:21:07 > 0:21:11So this is 22-year-old Michael from Cardiff.

0:21:11 > 0:21:14After that performance, I'll call him goat boy.

0:21:14 > 0:21:15And he's off.

0:21:17 > 0:21:18In and out almost straight away.

0:21:18 > 0:21:20Gavin Henson eat your heart out.

0:21:20 > 0:21:22Look at those hairy legs go.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25He's really light on his feet. Can we see that again?

0:21:25 > 0:21:26Just watch the balance here.

0:21:26 > 0:21:28That bodes very well.

0:21:28 > 0:21:32That's poetry in motion.

0:21:35 > 0:21:40Whoa, hang on! This is somebody who's actually quite good at this!

0:21:40 > 0:21:41We haven't seen this before.

0:21:41 > 0:21:44A new technique.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47Now the Sucker Punch. This guy is great.

0:21:47 > 0:21:49Can anything stop him?

0:21:49 > 0:21:52Yes, a massive punch to the face can.

0:21:55 > 0:21:58He's a rugby player, he likes that sort of thing.

0:21:58 > 0:22:01He's used to tackling big, hairy men in the scrum.

0:22:01 > 0:22:04How will he cope with our big, red balls? One, two...

0:22:07 > 0:22:11I really thought for just one moment he was going to do it.

0:22:11 > 0:22:15You can see the determination. Still now, he's thinking, "I can make it."

0:22:15 > 0:22:19Can someone finally land on this ledge?

0:22:19 > 0:22:21No.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25The Welsh nation can be proud of this lad from the Valleys.

0:22:25 > 0:22:28I think we'll see more of this young lad.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33Michael tops the leaderboard with two minutes dead,

0:22:33 > 0:22:35knocking screaming Lord Thomas in to second

0:22:35 > 0:22:38and Rich is literally in third.

0:22:38 > 0:22:41The rest of the pack shuffle down.

0:22:41 > 0:22:45Charlene sitting pretty in fifth, Daddy Cool in seventh.

0:22:45 > 0:22:49But with more new competitors waiting in the wings, these

0:22:49 > 0:22:52tail-enders are looking less likely to make it into the fastest 12.

0:22:54 > 0:22:59Today's fastest 12 qualifiers can look forward to a whole heap of this.

0:23:11 > 0:23:14We're just past the halfway mark in the qualifier,

0:23:14 > 0:23:18so let's get a wriggle on and take a quick look at how this bunch of girls get on.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21Introducing 42-year-old Paula.

0:23:21 > 0:23:24Wildlife biologist Krish.

0:23:24 > 0:23:2623-year-old gymnast Steph.

0:23:26 > 0:23:28Social worker Andi.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31And keen Highland dancer Wendy.

0:23:33 > 0:23:35I'm doing this for the over-40s!

0:23:35 > 0:23:38Just cos we're over 40, we're not over the hill.

0:23:38 > 0:23:43I'm going to smash this course and all the competitors. I'm the winner!

0:23:48 > 0:23:50Come on, you can do it!

0:23:54 > 0:23:55Bring on that mud!

0:23:58 > 0:24:04I'm going to go out there and beat the boys, and get my claws into this course.

0:24:12 > 0:24:13Any tips?

0:24:36 > 0:24:38Come on!

0:24:38 > 0:24:39Come on! You can do it!

0:25:01 > 0:25:02Woo!

0:25:07 > 0:25:10Woo! Wipeout!

0:25:11 > 0:25:13# Don't stop me now...

0:25:13 > 0:25:16Meet illustrator Sue Nicholls.

0:25:16 > 0:25:18If Sue beats me I'll never live it down.

0:25:18 > 0:25:22Meet retired graphic designer Pete Nicholls.

0:25:22 > 0:25:26They want to use the Qualifier to see who wears the trousers.

0:25:29 > 0:25:32Like any marriage, it has its ups and downs.

0:25:32 > 0:25:36I'm going to show my husband who's boss.

0:25:38 > 0:25:39I'm going to show HER who's boss.

0:25:41 > 0:25:43# Burning through the sky, yeah

0:25:43 > 0:25:48# 200 degrees, that's why they call me Mr Fahrenheit

0:25:48 > 0:25:51# I'm travelling at the speed of light

0:25:51 > 0:25:53# I wanna make a supersonic woman of you

0:25:56 > 0:25:59# Don't stop me, don't stop me don't stop me, hey, hey

0:25:59 > 0:26:02# Don't stop me, don't stop me Ooh ooh ooh

0:26:02 > 0:26:05# Don't stop me, don't stop me Good time, good time

0:26:05 > 0:26:08# Don't stop me, ohhhh

0:26:16 > 0:26:19# Don't stop me now Yes, I'm having a good time

0:26:19 > 0:26:25# I don't want to stop at all...

0:26:25 > 0:26:31# La la la la laaaa La la la la

0:26:31 > 0:26:35# La la laa laa laa laaa

0:26:35 > 0:26:36# La la laa... #

0:26:36 > 0:26:39Pete's wearing the trousers in this marriage, then.

0:26:39 > 0:26:43Only they are slightly damp and muddy ones.

0:26:43 > 0:26:45So, that is 19 of the 20.

0:26:45 > 0:26:47One more competitor to come, Oliver.

0:26:47 > 0:26:51He's a professional kite-surfer, whatever that is. That's not a job.

0:26:51 > 0:26:55He's in top physical shape and he's annoyingly good looking, as well.

0:26:55 > 0:26:57Is there anything wrong with this guy?

0:26:57 > 0:26:59What are your strengths?

0:26:59 > 0:27:02My strengths? Er...

0:27:02 > 0:27:04Er...

0:27:06 > 0:27:08Aha! Oh, good.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10Woo! Yeah, baby!

0:27:10 > 0:27:14Big up to the South Coast surf dudes! Watch me ride this victory wave home.

0:27:14 > 0:27:17Whatever. Right, he's off.

0:27:17 > 0:27:20Looks like he's forgotten his surfboard. And his kite.

0:27:23 > 0:27:27The first set of Topple Towers haven't caused too many problems.

0:27:27 > 0:27:28This is promising.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31Second set. Oh, dear.

0:27:31 > 0:27:32I hate this guy.

0:27:32 > 0:27:35Look, he's all covered in mud and he still looks good.

0:27:37 > 0:27:42With his kite surfing experience, he should be used to the balance required,

0:27:42 > 0:27:47just not the 22 boxing gloves trying to smash his face in.

0:27:47 > 0:27:48Took it like a man!

0:27:48 > 0:27:52Come-on, Oliver. Nobody has got across the big balls so far today.

0:27:52 > 0:27:56Please, show us how it's done.

0:28:00 > 0:28:02Crikey! He very nearly did, as well!

0:28:02 > 0:28:04Bounces off the first one, on to the second,

0:28:04 > 0:28:08flips on to the third and then falls in the water.

0:28:08 > 0:28:10That was staggeringly good.

0:28:10 > 0:28:12This should be the easy part for him.

0:28:12 > 0:28:16The leap of faith. He's used to flying at great heights, 40 feet in the air.

0:28:16 > 0:28:19Man versus the elements. It should be really, really easy.

0:28:19 > 0:28:20Or not.

0:28:22 > 0:28:25I can confidently say that he's beaten Elias' time.

0:28:25 > 0:28:29Let's see how that affects the leaderboard when he finishes.

0:28:29 > 0:28:322:06.

0:28:35 > 0:28:39We have our final 12. The leaderboard topped by goat boy Michael,

0:28:39 > 0:28:41our fastest competitor in the qualifier,

0:28:41 > 0:28:45with handsome Ollie in second and screaming Lord Thomas now in third.

0:28:45 > 0:28:48Moving down the field, we have Rich, Sam

0:28:48 > 0:28:52and Miss Bournemouth herself sitting pretty in sixth.

0:28:52 > 0:28:56In the middle of the pack, we have gymnast Steph, Stacey and Chris.

0:28:56 > 0:29:01Bringing up the rear, Mark, Pete and Wendy in 12th and final place.

0:29:01 > 0:29:03Sneaking into the top 12.

0:29:05 > 0:29:07But the story doesn't stop there.

0:29:07 > 0:29:09Our doctors have said that seventh-placed Steph

0:29:09 > 0:29:13has taken one bump too many, and have advised her to withdraw.

0:29:13 > 0:29:17So she's out, and the next fastest competitor takes her place.

0:29:17 > 0:29:22No, it's not Elias. It's our oldest contestant today, Terry.

0:29:22 > 0:29:26Now we've sorted that chaff from the ever-so-slightly faster chaff,

0:29:26 > 0:29:29let's get on to the next round, the Sweeper.

0:29:29 > 0:29:33We need to lose six more competitors, and this is what's about to happen.

0:29:39 > 0:29:43Those 12 remaining competitors have to balance on these 13 foot high podiums,

0:29:43 > 0:29:47leapfrogging the Sweeper arm, which gets faster and higher,

0:29:47 > 0:29:50knocking them off until just six remain.

0:29:50 > 0:29:55They're all then through to the next round. But the Sweeper doesn't stop.

0:29:55 > 0:30:01The final six play on just for glory, to see who will be the last man or woman standing.

0:30:01 > 0:30:03So, let's meet the Sweeper's dozen.

0:30:03 > 0:30:08Standing on podium one is our very own Miss Bournemouth, Charlene.

0:30:08 > 0:30:10Come on, girlies. One of us has to do this.

0:30:10 > 0:30:13We've got to show the guys what we're made of.

0:30:13 > 0:30:15Yes, well whatever it is, I hope it floats.

0:30:15 > 0:30:20On podium two is Miss Fletcher, who has got good strong arms.

0:30:20 > 0:30:23Three of them!

0:30:23 > 0:30:26Podium three is Mr Nicholls, Pete.

0:30:26 > 0:30:28OK, Susie, who's the boss now?

0:30:28 > 0:30:32His wife Sue, there, completely disinterested, watching in losers' pen.

0:30:32 > 0:30:36Next to him on four it's Daddy Cool, Chris, starting the mind games.

0:30:36 > 0:30:38OK, Ollie, you're going down, mate.

0:30:38 > 0:30:40Yeah, if he gets his balance.

0:30:40 > 0:30:44On five and six are Wendy and screaming Lord Thomas.

0:30:44 > 0:30:47This Sweeper is nasty!

0:30:47 > 0:30:50Yes... On podiums seven, eight and nine

0:30:50 > 0:30:54are goat boy Michael, literally Rich and Terry.

0:30:54 > 0:30:56Let's have it for the oldies, come on.

0:30:56 > 0:30:58On 10 is chemistry head Mark.

0:30:58 > 0:30:59Bring it on!

0:30:59 > 0:31:01I think his helmet straps are too tight.

0:31:01 > 0:31:05On 11 and 12 is Mummy's boy Sam and handsome Ollie.

0:31:05 > 0:31:06I've got my eye on the prize.

0:31:08 > 0:31:11Well, there they are, our trembling 12.

0:31:11 > 0:31:14I don't blame them, because they're about to become six.

0:31:14 > 0:31:19Let's go out to the course and see who can survive the Sweeper.

0:31:19 > 0:31:21- Are you all ready?- ALL: Yeah!

0:31:22 > 0:31:243, 2, 1!

0:31:24 > 0:31:26HORN BLARES

0:31:26 > 0:31:30And we're off. It's a slow and gentle start for the Sweeper, as always.

0:31:30 > 0:31:32It gets faster and higher later.

0:31:32 > 0:31:34Charlene first over. Clings on,

0:31:34 > 0:31:35and Stacey.

0:31:35 > 0:31:39Pete's gone straight away, and now Chris as well. Wendy, too, falls.

0:31:39 > 0:31:41Sam and Oliver stay standing.

0:31:41 > 0:31:45But that... Charlene's over, but Stacey's gone,

0:31:45 > 0:31:46it's an empty podium.

0:31:46 > 0:31:48This is chaos.

0:31:48 > 0:31:51Hang on a second, we must be down to six?

0:31:51 > 0:31:55This is supposed to be the easy bit, but I think we've lost six already.

0:31:55 > 0:31:57We need a replay to see what just happened.

0:31:57 > 0:32:00So, Charlene looks like she's in trouble straight away,

0:32:00 > 0:32:02but she's still hanging on.

0:32:02 > 0:32:06Miss Fletcher tries the same move. She's hanging on as well.

0:32:06 > 0:32:08Next, Pete, who's got the time to prepare

0:32:08 > 0:32:12but forgets to jump, and sort of goes for a head butt.

0:32:12 > 0:32:14Ouch!

0:32:17 > 0:32:20It's not that high, it's not that frightening,

0:32:20 > 0:32:22but somehow your legs start to go to jelly.

0:32:22 > 0:32:25I can jump higher than that any day.

0:32:25 > 0:32:26Yes, except tomorrow,

0:32:26 > 0:32:29when your back's seized up and you can barely move.

0:32:29 > 0:32:33Stacey now, still clinging on for dear life, there.

0:32:33 > 0:32:40Chris almost stays up but throws a wobbly in the end and wobbles off.

0:32:40 > 0:32:44It's so wobbly up there. You don't get a perspective of how wobbly it is up there.

0:32:44 > 0:32:47We got that, wobbly. So it's goodbye to Chris and Wendy.

0:32:47 > 0:32:50My legs went mental, I just couldn't...

0:32:50 > 0:32:53They were shaking and shaking. I couldn't control them.

0:32:53 > 0:32:55I landed after the first jump,

0:32:55 > 0:32:58but my legs were shaking too much so I had to jump off the podium.

0:33:01 > 0:33:03It's goodbye to Chris and Wendy.

0:33:03 > 0:33:06And still, Stacey is hanging in there.

0:33:06 > 0:33:09Here's an award-winning dismount.

0:33:09 > 0:33:12Terry takes a bow, regains his composure

0:33:12 > 0:33:14and still has time to perform a perfect dive.

0:33:14 > 0:33:18Mark takes a bit of a tumble, but he's hanging on.

0:33:18 > 0:33:23He's angry and he's still hanging on. No, he's not.

0:33:23 > 0:33:24I'm just angry.

0:33:28 > 0:33:31- I'm so angry I could cry now. - I wouldn't if I were you.

0:33:31 > 0:33:34I think you're back in school on Monday.

0:33:36 > 0:33:37Finally, Stacey's gone.

0:33:37 > 0:33:39The remaining six are now

0:33:39 > 0:33:42guaranteed passage into the next round.

0:33:42 > 0:33:46But they'll play on to see who's the best of the best.

0:33:50 > 0:33:53Charlene is over, she hasn't got the hang of jumping

0:33:53 > 0:33:56but her trip and hug technique seems to work well for her.

0:33:56 > 0:33:58Thomas and Michael clear the bar with ease,

0:33:58 > 0:34:01but the pressure's got to Rich, he's literally fallen off.

0:34:04 > 0:34:06Charlene hasn't cleared that Sweeper arm once.

0:34:06 > 0:34:09I hope she's got shin pads under those socks.

0:34:09 > 0:34:13She's down and out, but she's safe inside our top six, remember.

0:34:13 > 0:34:16Let's remind ourselves of her inimitable style.

0:34:16 > 0:34:19I'm amazed her helmet stayed on for that long, let alone her.

0:34:21 > 0:34:25And there's Rich going down in a blaze of chest pain.

0:34:27 > 0:34:30Next time round it was just too much for Charlene, though,

0:34:30 > 0:34:35and that face plant might have affected her chances of winning next year's Miss Bournemouth.

0:34:36 > 0:34:38So we're down to our last four.

0:34:38 > 0:34:40Thomas, Michael, Sam and Oliver.

0:34:40 > 0:34:42They're all through to the next round

0:34:42 > 0:34:45but the Sweeper arm won't stop until they're in the drink.

0:34:45 > 0:34:47Who will be our last man standing?

0:34:49 > 0:34:53Not Sam, who's the next to fall.

0:34:55 > 0:34:58Thomas clears the bar once again and gives himself a little clap.

0:34:58 > 0:35:00Well done, me.

0:35:00 > 0:35:04Sam has a wobble, realises he's going in and makes the best of a bad lot

0:35:04 > 0:35:09by showing his bum to Oliver in the vain hope it'll put him right off his podium, and it almost works.

0:35:09 > 0:35:13Three to go. Getting lonely up there.

0:35:13 > 0:35:16The Sweeper arm gets faster and higher all the time.

0:35:26 > 0:35:29Thomas has gone, and it's a double whammy

0:35:29 > 0:35:31as Michael totally wipes out.

0:35:31 > 0:35:34Ollie has proved himself best at this round,

0:35:34 > 0:35:36but clears the bar just for fun.

0:35:36 > 0:35:39He's conquered the Sweeper and goes into the next round

0:35:39 > 0:35:43with the psychological edge of being the last man standing.

0:35:43 > 0:35:49Ollie, showing poise, grace, a cool head and some very uncool shorts.

0:35:49 > 0:35:54Thomas over egged it and suddenly becomes all legs and arms.

0:35:54 > 0:35:58And let's take another look at that magnificent flip from Michael.

0:36:06 > 0:36:10I dont' know, I'm only guessing, but that probably hurt.

0:36:10 > 0:36:16The Sweeper, doing its job and reducing the field from 12 down to 6.

0:36:16 > 0:36:22One of whom is going to walk away, or maybe limp away, with the prize of £10,000.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25Now we know the half dozen who'll go into the next round,

0:36:25 > 0:36:27let's have a look at how they got there.

0:36:28 > 0:36:33Taking top spot from the Sweeper is kite surfing's answer to Action Man, Ollie.

0:36:33 > 0:36:35Watch me ride this victory wave home!

0:36:35 > 0:36:38Closely followed by goat boy Michael.

0:36:38 > 0:36:41# Choo choo choo choo choo choo choo choo choo. #

0:36:41 > 0:36:43This Sweeper is nasty!

0:36:43 > 0:36:46Chasing them is screaming Lord Thomas.

0:36:46 > 0:36:48SCREAMS

0:36:48 > 0:36:52- I'm here to be the last man standing. - They're joined by mummy's boy, Sam.

0:36:52 > 0:36:55Yes! Come on!

0:36:56 > 0:36:59Our last remaining girl, Miss Bournemouth.

0:36:59 > 0:37:03You think I'm a girly girl and I'm going to run round like this!

0:37:03 > 0:37:06Literally nothing will stop me getting to the end of this course.

0:37:06 > 0:37:11And taking final spot, literally last to stay in the competition is literally Rich.

0:37:13 > 0:37:18Is there any more pain and humiliation we could visit on these poor people?

0:37:18 > 0:37:20Yes, yes there is.

0:37:20 > 0:37:21It's called Dizzy Dummies

0:37:21 > 0:37:25and it'll reduce them down from six to three finalists.

0:37:32 > 0:37:34Welcome to Dizzy Dummies. Here's how it works.

0:37:34 > 0:37:41We use that human roundabout to whizz our six semi-finalists round and round and round...

0:37:41 > 0:37:43You get the picture.

0:37:43 > 0:37:48Once they're bordering on nauseous, we set them free and watch as they

0:37:48 > 0:37:52attempt to stumble, dazed, across some very unstable obstacles.

0:37:54 > 0:37:58The aim is to reach the other side without falling in the water.

0:37:58 > 0:38:02If they do fall in the water, it's a swim back to the start again.

0:38:02 > 0:38:05Whoever is last to make it to the other side is eliminated.

0:38:05 > 0:38:08We shall keep repeating the whole painful process,

0:38:08 > 0:38:13not just for our own enjoyment but too whittle the group down to our three finalists.

0:38:13 > 0:38:15Got it? Good. Let's get dizzy.

0:38:15 > 0:38:17HORN BLARES

0:38:17 > 0:38:20So, round and round and round for 40 seconds.

0:38:20 > 0:38:22It doesn't need to go that quick!

0:38:24 > 0:38:25This is terrifying.

0:38:25 > 0:38:29This is the longest 40 seconds of my whole entire life.

0:38:30 > 0:38:32A blur of Bermuda shorts and pink knee socks.

0:38:32 > 0:38:35It's making me feel ill.

0:38:35 > 0:38:36And they're off.

0:38:36 > 0:38:40Charlene is first out the gate, but Michael takes an early lead.

0:38:40 > 0:38:43And he must be pretty dizzy.

0:38:43 > 0:38:45Nice posture, nasty fall for goat boy.

0:38:45 > 0:38:47How could he miss?

0:38:48 > 0:38:52Charlene makes it to the first obstacle, the tippy table,

0:38:52 > 0:38:53but then just sort of freezes.

0:38:53 > 0:38:58Thomas sees his chance and bounces across like a gazelle, he's safe.

0:38:58 > 0:39:02Their heads are really spinning as they hit the water.

0:39:02 > 0:39:03Which way is up?

0:39:03 > 0:39:07Charlene takes the second tippy table with ease, now.

0:39:07 > 0:39:12Finally clears, crosses the line and, well, trips over the line, but she's safe.

0:39:12 > 0:39:15Michael, thinking outside the box,

0:39:15 > 0:39:19to run across the finish line, as does literally Rich.

0:39:19 > 0:39:21Two Left.

0:39:21 > 0:39:25It'll be Ollie or Sam leaving in just a few seconds.

0:39:25 > 0:39:29Remember, the last person over the line is out of the competition.

0:39:29 > 0:39:33Ollie sees his chance and is the last person into the next round.

0:39:33 > 0:39:36Sam realises it's all over and takes an early bath.

0:39:36 > 0:39:39You look so disappointed, as you should.

0:39:39 > 0:39:42I did my best. I got over the dizziness quite quick,

0:39:42 > 0:39:44but it's quite slippy on the platforms.

0:39:44 > 0:39:45That's the way it goes, isn't it?

0:39:45 > 0:39:47And then there were five.

0:39:47 > 0:39:51Those five have got to be strapped back into the Dizzy Dummy.

0:39:51 > 0:39:55This time, all that stands between them and the finish line are the crazy beams.

0:39:55 > 0:39:58The first four across are safe, the fifth will be eliminated.

0:39:58 > 0:40:00Let's go straight back to the course.

0:40:03 > 0:40:07I don't think there's a technique to the spinning bit, just try not to be sick.

0:40:16 > 0:40:17HORN BLARES

0:40:17 > 0:40:21After the 40 seconds of spinning, they're released and off once again.

0:40:21 > 0:40:27Charlene doing her best to scare away the other competitors with her impression of a ghost.

0:40:30 > 0:40:32Thomas goes in.

0:40:40 > 0:40:41Oh, Ollie's down.

0:40:44 > 0:40:47Goat boy Michael making good progress and hanging on.

0:40:50 > 0:40:52It's a human pile up.

0:40:57 > 0:41:00The goat boy, though, is up on his hooves.

0:41:00 > 0:41:02Can he do it?

0:41:07 > 0:41:10Yes, he powers into first place, and doesn't he look pleased?

0:41:10 > 0:41:14Being first over the finish line will keep him in the competition.

0:41:14 > 0:41:19Our remaining four competitors are getting pretty good at swimming by now.

0:41:22 > 0:41:25That's Rich, making good progress.

0:41:25 > 0:41:27- Ow, my rib!- It's only pain.

0:41:27 > 0:41:32Rich storms into second with a little skid, closely followed by Ollie.

0:41:32 > 0:41:36So, either Thomas or Charlene will be going out of the competition.

0:41:36 > 0:41:39Or out of their minds, whichever comes first.

0:41:39 > 0:41:45This looked so tremendous, Miss Bournemouth makes a dash for it, but loses her balance.

0:41:45 > 0:41:48Could be in real trouble now,

0:41:48 > 0:41:51because that leaves Thomas heaving himself across the line.

0:41:51 > 0:41:55So Charlene, the last remaining woman, is out.

0:41:55 > 0:41:59You must be so disappointed cos you came so far?

0:41:59 > 0:42:02I'm so happy about how far I came.

0:42:02 > 0:42:04It's been such an experience.

0:42:04 > 0:42:07Of course, I'm gutted not to be doing the final.

0:42:07 > 0:42:10Our competitors are getting ready to spin just one more time.

0:42:10 > 0:42:14Remember, at stake is a place in the Wipeout Zone.

0:42:14 > 0:42:16The last person to cross the finish line

0:42:16 > 0:42:20will have let the chance of winning £10,000 slip through their fingers.

0:42:22 > 0:42:25This, then, is the most important spin of all

0:42:25 > 0:42:29because three of these four competitors will be in the final.

0:42:29 > 0:42:32Don't forget, they've been spun twice.

0:42:32 > 0:42:35This probably doesn't feel good right now.

0:42:36 > 0:42:39And they're released, and sprint to the start.

0:42:39 > 0:42:42It's more of a stagger going on. Oliver is first out.

0:42:42 > 0:42:43First across the seesaws.

0:42:45 > 0:42:46And he's home and...

0:42:47 > 0:42:48..wet!

0:42:48 > 0:42:51I don't believe it!

0:42:51 > 0:42:53And Rich is off, too.

0:42:53 > 0:42:57Such a promising run, here, from Oliver.

0:42:57 > 0:42:59Absolute determination.

0:42:59 > 0:43:01But just not enough.

0:43:01 > 0:43:03Loses his balance, in he goes.

0:43:03 > 0:43:08And Rich just seems to have given up, quite literally.

0:43:11 > 0:43:15This suddenly looks like brilliant delay tactics from goat boy.

0:43:15 > 0:43:17Could this be a late winning spurt?

0:43:20 > 0:43:21No.

0:43:21 > 0:43:24But could this be a late winning spurt for Thomas,

0:43:24 > 0:43:29who out of nowhere powers across the line like he's just broken the hundred metre record.

0:43:29 > 0:43:31It's down to Oliver, Rich and Michael.

0:43:31 > 0:43:35Which one of these won't be taking part in today's final?

0:43:35 > 0:43:38Here's Ollie, struggling for balance.

0:43:38 > 0:43:40He's fighting, giving it everything he's got.

0:43:40 > 0:43:44Will he make it?

0:43:44 > 0:43:46No, he's off, he's in the water.

0:43:46 > 0:43:48But now, Michael. Come on, Michael.

0:43:50 > 0:43:54Focus. Get that balance right.

0:43:54 > 0:43:58It's your place in the final at stake. He's in the water, too.

0:43:58 > 0:44:01Rich, now, another attempt.

0:44:01 > 0:44:03It's looking good.

0:44:08 > 0:44:10And Rich is in to the Grand Final.

0:44:10 > 0:44:13Only one place remains up for grabs.

0:44:13 > 0:44:18Ollie books his place, and that's really hard on Michael,

0:44:18 > 0:44:20who was so near, yet so far.

0:44:20 > 0:44:22He's out of the competition.

0:44:22 > 0:44:25There was a point there where you almost made it,

0:44:25 > 0:44:29you were clinging on for dear life. What happened?

0:44:29 > 0:44:31It's just so hard, so slippery.

0:44:31 > 0:44:32I'm so dizzy.

0:44:32 > 0:44:34I gave it my all,

0:44:34 > 0:44:36and I'm just sorry,

0:44:36 > 0:44:38sorry I didn't make it to the final.

0:44:38 > 0:44:43Unfortunately, you weren't good enough to get through this round to go to the Wipeout Zone,

0:44:43 > 0:44:45but you did a great job. Well done.

0:44:45 > 0:44:47Thanks.

0:44:47 > 0:44:51So, it's Rich, Ollie and Thomas into the Wipeout Zone.

0:44:51 > 0:44:55One of these three will be today's Total Wipeout champion.

0:44:55 > 0:44:57They'll also be 10 grand richer.

0:44:57 > 0:44:58And probably a lot wetter.

0:44:58 > 0:45:01It's been a tough climb to the top,

0:45:01 > 0:45:04but let's hope they've got a little something left in reserve

0:45:04 > 0:45:07because things are about to get serious.

0:45:09 > 0:45:12I'm really excited I've made it to the final, but so scared.

0:45:12 > 0:45:15I don't know what will happen. We'll have to find out.

0:45:15 > 0:45:18Nothing can describe how I'm feeling.

0:45:18 > 0:45:20To know that this big course is ahead of me...

0:45:20 > 0:45:23It's frightening, exciting.

0:45:23 > 0:45:24It's brilliant.

0:45:24 > 0:45:27I'm a little bit apprehensive, really.

0:45:27 > 0:45:30It's quite a scary course.

0:45:30 > 0:45:33I don't think it'll to be anything like what we've done so far.

0:45:43 > 0:45:49In my mind, before I left to come out here, I thought, "I can do this, I really can do this."

0:45:49 > 0:45:54Then I met the competitors that I was up against...

0:45:55 > 0:45:57..and my hopes dropped a little bit.

0:45:57 > 0:46:01Literally, all I thought within myself was literally,

0:46:01 > 0:46:05"Do your best, everyone, and then you can't be disappointed within yourself."

0:46:06 > 0:46:10When I arrived in Argentina, I did feel like I could be where I am now.

0:46:10 > 0:46:13I think that's just self-belief.

0:46:13 > 0:46:16To a healthy extent, I thought I wouldn't be here

0:46:16 > 0:46:21if I didn't think I could give it 110% and get to the final.

0:46:21 > 0:46:24My main motivation of being here is to enjoy the experience

0:46:24 > 0:46:27and have a fabulous time, complete the course and be the winner.

0:46:28 > 0:46:34If I win Total Wipeout, I'm not an emotional person generally,

0:46:34 > 0:46:39but I think you might actually see a few tears come from my eyes.

0:46:40 > 0:46:43To win Total Wipeout would be amazing for me.

0:46:43 > 0:46:47It would mean I could travel the world and continue having amazing experiences.

0:46:49 > 0:46:52I had a tear today, I have to say.

0:46:52 > 0:46:55It's been exhausting, real highs and real lows,

0:46:55 > 0:46:59watching people go out and knowing it's meant to them.

0:46:59 > 0:47:00It's been a real journey.

0:47:07 > 0:47:10It's been a long day for all our contestants,

0:47:10 > 0:47:15but for our three finalists, nightfall will have struck fear into their hearts.

0:47:15 > 0:47:18It means only one thing, mosquitoes.

0:47:18 > 0:47:24Well, mosquitoes and our incredibly gruelling final round, the Wipeout Zone.

0:47:29 > 0:47:33So, it's Rich, Oliver and Thomas who will now face the most punishing

0:47:33 > 0:47:37obstacle course on the planet, the Wipeout Zone.

0:47:38 > 0:47:45Down the 50 foot killer surf, carried along by 2,000 litres of gushing water.

0:47:45 > 0:47:50The barrel roll, 25, 50 kilo kegs that smash towards them head on.

0:47:50 > 0:47:56The Wipeout Wall, a five-metre climb inside a torrential waterfall.

0:47:56 > 0:48:00The fast revolving spinner, designed to disorientate.

0:48:00 > 0:48:07And finally a 15 foot rolling beam leading to two launch pads and the finish podium.

0:48:07 > 0:48:13Let's join Amanda Byram ringside to see who's going to take the £10,000 prize.

0:48:13 > 0:48:17I can tell you it's absolutely terrifying down here,

0:48:17 > 0:48:22but not as terrifying as it must be up there with our first finalist, it's Rich.

0:48:32 > 0:48:38Well, Rich is literally going to have to put in the performance of his lifetime to take the £10,000.

0:48:38 > 0:48:41HORN BLARES

0:48:50 > 0:48:53He needs to get out of the water quickly.

0:48:53 > 0:48:55He's setting the benchmark.

0:49:02 > 0:49:05Here come those heavy barrels.

0:49:07 > 0:49:11Great athleticism, but the third barrel has caught him out,

0:49:11 > 0:49:14and now he's struggling.

0:49:20 > 0:49:24Now Rich tentatively steps on to that soaking wet climbing wall.

0:49:24 > 0:49:25Come on, Rich.

0:49:25 > 0:49:28This is your moment.

0:49:28 > 0:49:33The weight of all that freezing water is testing to nerves and body.

0:49:37 > 0:49:41I'd say breathe, Rich, but probably not now.

0:49:48 > 0:49:51Rich steadies himself for the Spinner.

0:49:51 > 0:49:54Makes the leap, and manages to cling on.

0:49:54 > 0:49:57But don't forget the longer he stays on, the dizzier he'll get

0:49:57 > 0:50:00so he can't afford to hang around for long.

0:50:06 > 0:50:09He's got... He's just misjudged that jump.

0:50:12 > 0:50:17He doesn't quite land cleanly and rolls straight off into the water.

0:50:17 > 0:50:18That puts him straight into trouble.

0:50:18 > 0:50:21That means he'll have to go back to the start of the Spinner

0:50:21 > 0:50:25and try again, and lose precious time.

0:50:25 > 0:50:26Another chance to jump,

0:50:26 > 0:50:30this time he's not lingering around, he's straight off.

0:50:33 > 0:50:37Now, he's got to compose himself for the roller beam, but keep the speed up.

0:50:38 > 0:50:41He makes his move, and clears it.

0:50:41 > 0:50:44Just two trampolines stand between him now

0:50:44 > 0:50:45and the finish podium.

0:50:45 > 0:50:47He's got no time to waste, he knows it.

0:50:47 > 0:50:49Throws himself from one to the next.

0:50:49 > 0:50:51He's got a final leap,

0:50:51 > 0:50:53and he's done it!

0:50:53 > 0:50:57Rich has literally completed the Wipeout Zone.

0:50:57 > 0:51:01But will that be fast enough to win him the 10 Gs?

0:51:03 > 0:51:06Rich started well enough, with the help of gravity.

0:51:06 > 0:51:10But he was quickly getting slowed down by the obstacles.

0:51:10 > 0:51:13The Wipeout Zone literally has Rich over a barrel.

0:51:13 > 0:51:16Then his cautious approach to the climbing wall,

0:51:16 > 0:51:18whilst admirable for health and safety reasons,

0:51:18 > 0:51:20did cost him valuable seconds.

0:51:20 > 0:51:22As did two attempts at the Spinner.

0:51:22 > 0:51:24But he got there in the end,

0:51:24 > 0:51:28and he sets the target time of 3 minutes and 9 seconds.

0:51:28 > 0:51:31Rich, how was that for you?

0:51:31 > 0:51:35I fell off, I fell off the thing.

0:51:35 > 0:51:38That was exhausting, very exhausting.

0:51:38 > 0:51:41You get all the water in your face climbing back up.

0:51:41 > 0:51:44You were doing so well, you were greased lightning all the way,

0:51:44 > 0:51:47but you lost it a bit on the Spinner. What happened?

0:51:47 > 0:51:50I wasn't expecting it to go so fast.

0:51:50 > 0:51:52It just flew me right off.

0:51:54 > 0:51:59So Rich has staked his claim for tonight's title and cash prize.

0:51:59 > 0:52:02Next to take on the Wipeout Zone is handsome Ollie.

0:52:02 > 0:52:06He's shown his strength by being our last man standing in the Sweeper.

0:52:06 > 0:52:10Can he build on success just when it matters?

0:52:18 > 0:52:23None of the finalists get to watch, so Ollie has no idea of Rich's time.

0:52:23 > 0:52:24HORN BLARES

0:52:32 > 0:52:35He's out of the ring

0:52:35 > 0:52:37and swimming for the barrel roll.

0:52:42 > 0:52:45One mistimed jump here would be all it takes.

0:52:47 > 0:52:49Ollie's obviously played lots arcade games,

0:52:49 > 0:52:52because he's quicker than Rich on the barrel roll.

0:52:59 > 0:53:01Next, it's on to the wall.

0:53:01 > 0:53:04That's no problem for Ollie, either.

0:53:04 > 0:53:06He looks like Indiana Jones up there.

0:53:08 > 0:53:11He's ahead of Rich at this point.

0:53:11 > 0:53:13But he cannot get complacent.

0:53:13 > 0:53:15One big mistake could cost him the lead.

0:53:17 > 0:53:21The leap to the Spinner, now. He's on safely.

0:53:21 > 0:53:23It's more important how you get off.

0:53:23 > 0:53:26He did that quickly, too, and stayed on.

0:53:26 > 0:53:28Incredible stuff.

0:53:28 > 0:53:31He steadies himself for the rolling beam.

0:53:33 > 0:53:35Just shrugs it off. An incredible time.

0:53:35 > 0:53:38The final obstacles now, the launch pads. Oh, no!

0:53:38 > 0:53:39- That's his mistake!- Oh!

0:53:39 > 0:53:42Overshot the first launch pad.

0:53:42 > 0:53:45That could be costly for Ollie.

0:53:48 > 0:53:52Now he's got to climb back up and try again.

0:53:53 > 0:53:56He's lost time already.

0:53:56 > 0:53:59Now taking each launch pad one at a time.

0:53:59 > 0:54:01It takes longer but it's safe,

0:54:01 > 0:54:03builds up momentum for the final leap

0:54:03 > 0:54:05on to the final launch pad.

0:54:05 > 0:54:08Now, finally to clear this leap to the podium.

0:54:10 > 0:54:11He's done it!

0:54:11 > 0:54:14Ollie's near-flawless trek across the course

0:54:14 > 0:54:16has practically halved the benchmark,

0:54:16 > 0:54:19now an incredible 1 minute 48 seconds.

0:54:19 > 0:54:20- Woo!- No wonder he sounds happy.

0:54:25 > 0:54:31The only thing that slowed down Oliver was the first launch pad, where he overbalanced.

0:54:31 > 0:54:34But that was followed by a strong finish.

0:54:34 > 0:54:36And Ollie's going to take some beating.

0:54:36 > 0:54:38How was that for you?

0:54:38 > 0:54:39It was fun, absolutely excellent.

0:54:39 > 0:54:41- Awesome.- How did you think you did?

0:54:41 > 0:54:45Maybe quick. If someone does it straight, they'll beat me, I guess.

0:54:45 > 0:54:47You did falter a little bit, though.

0:54:47 > 0:54:49Your balance got the better of you.

0:54:49 > 0:54:53- What happened over on the launch pad? - I guess it was a bit of nerves.

0:54:53 > 0:54:55Wobbly legs, I guess.

0:54:56 > 0:54:57But I got there in the end.

0:54:57 > 0:55:03So our last finalist, Thomas, has screamed his way through every obstacle to reach this final.

0:55:03 > 0:55:10Will he have the last laugh by beating what was an incredible run by Ollie? Let's find out.

0:55:16 > 0:55:20Remember, Thomas has no idea how the other finalists have fared.

0:55:20 > 0:55:22It's just him versus the course.

0:55:22 > 0:55:24HORN BLARES

0:55:43 > 0:55:47Thomas' long legs will be useful in the barrel roll.

0:55:58 > 0:56:00Thomas still on a par with Ollie's time.

0:56:03 > 0:56:05He's still got the Spinner ahead of him.

0:56:11 > 0:56:14He almost looks like he's taking it easy across the wall,

0:56:14 > 0:56:18but he's making good time, it's just very controlled.

0:56:18 > 0:56:20Getting this jumping right will be crucial

0:56:20 > 0:56:22if Thomas is to beat Ollie's time.

0:56:22 > 0:56:26Remember, 10 grand is still in sight right now.

0:56:34 > 0:56:36He's on. But he's got to get off.

0:56:40 > 0:56:43He must make it on this pass.

0:56:43 > 0:56:44Make that leap.

0:56:46 > 0:56:49Oh, and he so nearly made that landing.

0:56:49 > 0:56:50What a time to fall off.

0:56:50 > 0:56:54Has that cost him the title and the cash prize?

0:56:54 > 0:56:59Thomas just slips off at the last minute, costing him vital seconds.

0:56:59 > 0:57:06This is Thomas' second attempt at a landing now, will he hang on this time?

0:57:06 > 0:57:07It's close, but he does it.

0:57:10 > 0:57:15On to the rolling beam. He needs to fly through these obstacles, now.

0:57:15 > 0:57:16Digs deep.

0:57:16 > 0:57:18Great determination and concentration.

0:57:25 > 0:57:28The final leap.

0:57:28 > 0:57:29Hits the podium.

0:57:32 > 0:57:35But it's not good enough to beat Oliver,

0:57:35 > 0:57:37and you can see he's angry with himself.

0:57:40 > 0:57:43It all started so well for Thomas,

0:57:43 > 0:57:46but that single mistake jumping off the Spinner

0:57:46 > 0:57:50was all that was needed to hand handsome Ollie tonight's title and cash prize.

0:57:52 > 0:57:55I can tell you right now, Thomas, you've been very excitable,

0:57:55 > 0:57:58very determined all the way through this course.

0:57:58 > 0:58:02But, unfortunately, it just wasn't good enough, because Oliver,

0:58:02 > 0:58:06yours was the quickest time and you are the Total Wipeout winner!

0:58:06 > 0:58:07Woo!

0:58:08 > 0:58:13Ollie's magnificent run was just too much for the other finalists on the night.

0:58:13 > 0:58:16And the 26-year-old kite-surfer from Brighton

0:58:16 > 0:58:19becomes our very first Total Wipeout champion.

0:58:22 > 0:58:29So poor old Rich must literally go home empty-handed, whilst Thomas regrets that costly slip.

0:58:29 > 0:58:32I hope that trophy's rustproof, it's got to last the rest of the series!

0:58:32 > 0:58:34So, we have a winner.

0:58:34 > 0:58:36It's Ollie, congratulations.

0:58:36 > 0:58:40I've still no idea how you make a living out of kite-surfing.

0:58:40 > 0:58:44Anyway, join us next week when you can expect more of this.

0:58:44 > 0:58:46SCREAMING

0:58:48 > 0:58:51And spills like this.

0:58:55 > 0:58:57That's gotta hurt! See you then.
