0:00:10 > 0:00:13a brutal battleground in which 20 brave Brits,

0:00:13 > 0:00:18including a model, a pastry roller and a nurse are about to test their bodies to the limit

0:00:18 > 0:00:21as they fight for a £10,000 prize.

0:00:21 > 0:00:26There'll be lots of losers, but only one winner.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31This is Total Wipeout.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34Welcome to Total Wipeout.

0:00:34 > 0:00:4020 brave souls, some athletic, some less so, have journeyed all the way

0:00:40 > 0:00:42from the UK to tackle the Total Wipeout course.

0:00:42 > 0:00:46The rules are simple - you go over some obstacles,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49you get really wet and the best person wins.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51And they are that simple!

0:00:51 > 0:00:54These are the challenges that face our competitors today...

0:00:55 > 0:00:57..the Qualifier,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00the Sweeper,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02the Dizzy Dummies,

0:01:02 > 0:01:05and the grand final, the Wipeout Zone.

0:01:06 > 0:01:10The Qualifier will reduce our contestants from 20 to 12,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13it might also reduce some of them to gibbering wrecks.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15Let's have a look at the course.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24And first up is a brand-new obstacle, the Slippery Stairs -

0:01:24 > 0:01:26covered in grease and a nightmare to climb.

0:01:27 > 0:01:31Conquer that and it's a short dash to the Sucker Punch -

0:01:31 > 0:01:37lots of boxing gloves, gallons of mud, and a tiny chance of getting across unharmed.

0:01:37 > 0:01:42Then to the Big Balls, or as the Argentinian crew like to call them,

0:01:42 > 0:01:46the Big Balls - they all speak excellent English.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52Once across the balls, it's the Leap Of Faith, a circular run and jump,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55followed by a difficult landing on a tiny platform.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57At that point, the clock is stopped.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01Don't forget - only the top 12 go through to the next round.

0:02:02 > 0:02:03To win today's competition,

0:02:03 > 0:02:08the Total Wipeout champion will not only endure extreme physical challenges,

0:02:08 > 0:02:11but also extreme giggling from my co-host, Amanda Byram,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14as she watches them falling off big things.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17So, let's join her now on the course with our optimistic hopefuls.

0:02:18 > 0:02:22I'm here now with Chris. Chris, hang on, you've just got something in your... Oh!

0:02:22 > 0:02:26- Wait, no, that IS your hair.- Yeah, in-built spikes, all natural.

0:02:26 > 0:02:31Have you been doing anything to prepare for this extremely difficult course today?

0:02:31 > 0:02:34Yeah, been getting climbing and trampolining lessons

0:02:34 > 0:02:39- to deal with the evil balls. - Trampolines are flat, balls are round. How will you deal with that?

0:02:39 > 0:02:41With luck.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45I'm Sonic, the sonic gun,

0:02:45 > 0:02:48I'm doing this course like a sonic boom!

0:02:48 > 0:02:50Now I didn't understand a word of that.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52Still, he's off...

0:02:52 > 0:02:55straight into the water, that is going to ruin his hair.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58No, sadly not.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00Well, he's on.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08Now to the Slippery Stairs - these have been coated in grease,

0:03:08 > 0:03:09much like Chris's hair.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Over you go, Chris, that's the way.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Dispatched that with no problems, stumbling there.

0:03:16 > 0:03:20Let's hope he finds his feet for the next obstacle - the Sucker Punch.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Now I can actually explain

0:03:24 > 0:03:28how you get past this wall of boxing gloves - don't get punched.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34Oh-h! In your face, Chris,

0:03:34 > 0:03:35quite literally.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37He's staying on, though... He's off.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39He is off.

0:03:39 > 0:03:43Oh, no, he's going to ruin his lovely hairdo.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46More like a hair-don't.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50He'll thank you for saying that. Let's have a look at that in slow-mo.

0:03:52 > 0:03:53SCARY MUSIC PLAYS

0:03:53 > 0:03:55That evil incidental music tells me

0:03:55 > 0:03:59that Chris must now traverse his toughest challenge yet - the Big Balls.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03Well, Chris, be brave.

0:04:03 > 0:04:04Oh!

0:04:11 > 0:04:14And that, boys and girls, is how not to do it.

0:04:17 > 0:04:21Hang on, I think Chris does actually manage to land further back

0:04:21 > 0:04:23that where he jumped from.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25And that takes some doing.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27He has to swim all the way over to the podium,

0:04:27 > 0:04:28costing him vital seconds.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32Don't forget - he's trying to set as fast a time as possible

0:04:32 > 0:04:33to be in the top 12 qualifiers.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38Just the Leap Of Faith to go.

0:04:38 > 0:04:40Chris must grab the rope

0:04:40 > 0:04:44and swing to the podium in the middle of the pool.

0:04:44 > 0:04:45Sounds easy, but let me remind you

0:04:45 > 0:04:49how last week's contestants got on with this particular obstacle.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55No matter how many contestants we threw at the Leap Of Faith,

0:04:55 > 0:04:57not a single soul made it across.

0:05:00 > 0:05:05So it is a tall order for our spiky, shouty friend who makes his run up.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10Oh, and that's more like it!

0:05:10 > 0:05:13Chris completes the course in 2 minutes, 13 -

0:05:13 > 0:05:14now the time to beat.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16- Well done!- Who's next?

0:05:17 > 0:05:23My name's Mandy, I'm 46, I don't need no special tricks

0:05:23 > 0:05:26To let you know that I'm not sad

0:05:26 > 0:05:28And that I can get really mad!

0:05:28 > 0:05:30So that is why I'm here today

0:05:30 > 0:05:33To win Total Wipeout - I hope and I pray.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37Mandy's a sales administrator from Rugby,

0:05:37 > 0:05:39not a full-time poet.

0:05:42 > 0:05:46So the first of our more mature crop of contestants takes to the course.

0:05:46 > 0:05:51Go on, Mand, you can do it! All the way!

0:05:51 > 0:05:53Mandy making her way to the Slippery Stairs - oh!

0:05:53 > 0:05:54Agh!

0:05:54 > 0:05:56All the way up - come on!

0:05:56 > 0:05:58Completely failing to make any headway there.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00Come on!

0:06:01 > 0:06:02Come on, girl.

0:06:02 > 0:06:04And the stairs claiming their first victim.

0:06:05 > 0:06:09Having failed to get over the Slippery Stairs,

0:06:09 > 0:06:11Mandy makes the long swim to the next obstacle,

0:06:11 > 0:06:15costing her valuable time. Come on, Mandy, you can do it, all the way!

0:06:16 > 0:06:18Oh.

0:06:18 > 0:06:21She got hit with a thud and falls in the mud -

0:06:21 > 0:06:23Mandy, you can have that one on me.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26Come on, Mand! Come on, girl!

0:06:26 > 0:06:30Up you come. Go, girl!

0:06:30 > 0:06:33The shouting might be costing her vital energy at this point.

0:06:33 > 0:06:34Keep yourself together.

0:06:34 > 0:06:38Balls - they don't do nothing for me.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40I'm just going to beat them.

0:06:40 > 0:06:43I'm going to run at them and give it all I've got.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45OK, you go, girl, go, go, go!

0:06:46 > 0:06:47Yes...

0:06:50 > 0:06:54She's completely missed the second ball!

0:06:54 > 0:06:58And that was a nasty belly flop! I wouldn't want to see that again.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02While Mandy works out how to breathe again,

0:07:02 > 0:07:04let's see who's next to go.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07SHE CHEERS You ain't seen nothing yet.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09This is 18-year-old Sian -

0:07:09 > 0:07:13a gymnastics coach from Wales, so she should be good at this...

0:07:15 > 0:07:18..and she is - impressive stuff.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20Sian's flying round the course.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26On to the Sucker Punch now.

0:07:27 > 0:07:30Oh, that's really going to slow her down.

0:07:31 > 0:07:34Now, Sian is really small and those balls are really big.

0:07:36 > 0:07:41- THEME FROM "CHARIOTS OF FIRE" PLAYS - You see, that's how a gymnastics coach tackles the Big Balls -

0:07:41 > 0:07:44pretty much the same way as everybody else.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47Somebody's going to clear those one day, though.

0:07:47 > 0:07:48Somebody will.

0:07:51 > 0:07:55Blimey, Sian's landed it too and in the fastest time today -

0:07:55 > 0:07:56one minute, 46 seconds.

0:07:56 > 0:08:01Remember, only the 12 fastest qualifiers will go through to the next round.

0:08:01 > 0:08:05Time to find out who is vying for a place in that all-important dozen.

0:08:07 > 0:08:12What do this 60-year-old from Salford and this young lady from Brighton have in common?

0:08:12 > 0:08:14Well, there are two things.

0:08:14 > 0:08:16Firstly, they both pluck their eyebrows,

0:08:16 > 0:08:21and, secondly, they've both opted to use tinted goggles to protect their eyes.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24Makes sense, but how will they protect the rest of their bodies?

0:08:24 > 0:08:26HE CHEERS

0:08:26 > 0:08:29I'm the oldest swinger in town,

0:08:29 > 0:08:32but watch me fly round this course! Whoo!

0:08:32 > 0:08:35Yes, right, he's away.

0:08:37 > 0:08:39He's in...

0:08:40 > 0:08:41..he's out -

0:08:41 > 0:08:44the course already bringing Dave to his knees.

0:08:44 > 0:08:48I don't know. I think he's made of the right stuff, this guy.

0:08:48 > 0:08:49On to the Slippery Stairs...

0:08:49 > 0:08:51Oh.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54Maybe a Slippery Stairlift would have helped.

0:08:54 > 0:08:58On to the Sucker Punch now, Flying Dave should have no problem here -

0:08:58 > 0:09:00the wall would never punch a pensioner.

0:09:00 > 0:09:02It's punched a pensioner!

0:09:04 > 0:09:06Ha-ha-ha!

0:09:08 > 0:09:10Oooh! At least, it wasn't in the face.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17Natalie doesn't hang around at the Sucker Punch.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20Doesn't look like she wants to hang around in there either.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22Oh, God!

0:09:22 > 0:09:23At least she wore goggles.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30Looking ready for the Big Balls, Dave - just flying round.

0:09:30 > 0:09:31Here we go.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34Yes...ha-ha-ha!

0:09:35 > 0:09:38That kneeling technique there, that was never going to work,

0:09:38 > 0:09:40neither will his knees now probably.

0:09:40 > 0:09:42Now it's Natalie's turn.

0:09:42 > 0:09:44Moment of glory.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46What was that?

0:09:48 > 0:09:54Natalie did eventually finish in three minutes and 52 seconds.

0:09:55 > 0:09:59David finishes with a spot of rope burn...

0:10:01 > 0:10:03..in five minutes, seven seconds.

0:10:04 > 0:10:06Yes!

0:10:06 > 0:10:08Johnny, what is it you do for a living?

0:10:08 > 0:10:10I'm a personal trainer and I used to be in the military.

0:10:10 > 0:10:16Yes, sir! Now do you feel about coming up against some tough female chick competition?

0:10:16 > 0:10:20I'm not going to let them beat me. I will never, ever let them beat me.

0:10:22 > 0:10:27This one is for the boys out there to prove girls can't win! Come on!

0:10:27 > 0:10:29Did he really say... Don't involve me in it.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32He's off. Oh! See, ladies,

0:10:32 > 0:10:35if you wish for something hard enough, it really can come true.

0:10:36 > 0:10:37On to the Sucker Punch.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40Oh! That punch was from my eight-year-old daughter.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43Oh!

0:10:44 > 0:10:47Right, on to the Big Balls now for Action Man Johnny,

0:10:47 > 0:10:49and...

0:10:49 > 0:10:50Oooh! Oooh!

0:10:51 > 0:10:55Well, until he fell off, that was actually pretty good.

0:10:56 > 0:11:01Johnny marches to the finish line in one minute, 34 seconds -

0:11:01 > 0:11:02a very, very good time.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04But now for the women of Britain,

0:11:04 > 0:11:08let's take another look at Johnny falling off the Big Balls...

0:11:10 > 0:11:12..and then getting punched in the face - oh!

0:11:32 > 0:11:35Now, I just want to talk about those Big Balls for a minute,

0:11:35 > 0:11:39probably the toughest obstacles in the whole of Total Wipeout.

0:11:39 > 0:11:43What's more, they do have an amazing, almost magical ability

0:11:43 > 0:11:47to turn finely-tuned athletes into crash-test dummies,

0:11:47 > 0:11:49over and over again.

0:11:49 > 0:11:53MUSIC PLAYS: "Goodness Gracious Great Balls Of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis

0:12:21 > 0:12:23Yeah! Aggh!

0:12:25 > 0:12:29So how will 37-year-old mum Yvonne from Fife deal with the balls?

0:12:31 > 0:12:33Oh! Not very well.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36Yeah, starts reasonably well...

0:12:36 > 0:12:40then goes horribly wrong. Best not to land on your face there, Yvonne.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44Let's see that one more time.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50Next to try the Big Balls is Vicky.

0:12:50 > 0:12:52She's a nurse from Lincoln

0:12:52 > 0:12:54and has been preparing for this punishing course

0:12:54 > 0:12:57by walking her dogs and doing lots of swimming.

0:12:57 > 0:13:00Safe to say that the swimming has come in handy there.

0:13:03 > 0:13:06Backstroke - that's just showing off.

0:13:06 > 0:13:09Next up is 25-year-old Helena,

0:13:09 > 0:13:13who's here representing all the independent women out there.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16Now what is your motivation for being here today?

0:13:16 > 0:13:19I just want to prove to people that girls are just as good as guys

0:13:19 > 0:13:22- and we get stereotyped a lot. - So what is it that you do?

0:13:22 > 0:13:23I do modelling.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25Do you have a boyfriend?

0:13:25 > 0:13:26Yeah, I do.

0:13:26 > 0:13:28- What does he do?- He plays football.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30Ah, OK, so what do you do in your spare time?

0:13:30 > 0:13:34Go to the gym mostly - two or three times a week.

0:13:34 > 0:13:38Will Helena's training help her with the Sucker Punch, though?

0:13:38 > 0:13:40Well, she's fit, she's strong.

0:13:42 > 0:13:43No!

0:13:44 > 0:13:47In fact, the punch misses her face,

0:13:47 > 0:13:49but it's the body blow takes her off the wall

0:13:49 > 0:13:51and that's going to cost her time.

0:13:53 > 0:13:56Right, on to the Big Balls - she is gym-fit and toned,

0:13:56 > 0:13:58she could do it - could she be the one to clear them?

0:13:58 > 0:14:02It's just about balance. It's about...not doing that!

0:14:02 > 0:14:04No!

0:14:05 > 0:14:09Now Helena just has to land on the podium

0:14:09 > 0:14:11to finish a pretty decent time.

0:14:11 > 0:14:12Here we go, touchdown.

0:14:12 > 0:14:13No! No, let go!

0:14:13 > 0:14:15Did nobody tell her?

0:14:15 > 0:14:17Good grip, but stop it now.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24How is that pretty little model face doing - let me see?

0:14:24 > 0:14:27Ah, yes, all in one piece - how are you feeling?

0:14:27 > 0:14:29I'm so knackered.

0:14:29 > 0:14:31Still, a decent three minutes, 36, for Helena,

0:14:31 > 0:14:33and proof, if it were needed,

0:14:33 > 0:14:36that this course is bad for your health and your looks.

0:14:36 > 0:14:41This is shelf-stacker Blair and the pontoons aren't really an obstacle -

0:14:41 > 0:14:44she's just making it look tough.

0:14:46 > 0:14:49Not having much luck on the Slippery Stairs either.

0:14:49 > 0:14:53We'll rejoin Blair later when she's pulled herself together.

0:14:53 > 0:14:55I'm going to win this show, now watch me go!

0:14:56 > 0:15:00This is Phil. He's a 33-year-old website designer from Barnsley,

0:15:00 > 0:15:03but he also has an amazing talent up his sleeve -

0:15:03 > 0:15:06he's a part-time rapper.

0:15:08 > 0:15:10# I'm Phil, I'm 33 I'm in the place to be

0:15:10 > 0:15:12# I wanna win this thing on the BBC

0:15:12 > 0:15:15# I got my mummy in the hood saying I should

0:15:15 > 0:15:18# Trying my best to beat the rest Woh-woh-woh! Wipeout!

0:15:18 > 0:15:21# Let me here you scream... #

0:15:21 > 0:15:23And then everyone screams.

0:15:23 > 0:15:24Admit it, you screamed.

0:15:29 > 0:15:30That is quite an effort.

0:15:33 > 0:15:37It's a tougher obstacle than it looks. On to the Sucker Punch.

0:15:38 > 0:15:39Oh.

0:15:39 > 0:15:42Emcee Philly-Phil's secret talents don't end with rapping -

0:15:42 > 0:15:45he's also an amazing break dancer - look at him go.

0:15:46 > 0:15:47Oh, 'eck!

0:15:47 > 0:15:52Come on, Phil, show how those balls are done, B-boy style,

0:15:52 > 0:15:53whatever that is.

0:15:53 > 0:15:54Yes!

0:15:54 > 0:15:58No! I think that loud noise was his body popping.

0:16:00 > 0:16:03Come on, you can do this. Looking good!

0:16:03 > 0:16:07Emcee Philly-Phil keeps it real in the end with a time of two minutes,

0:16:07 > 0:16:08and 54 seconds.

0:16:08 > 0:16:12Will that be enough to take him into the top 12 and into the next round?

0:16:12 > 0:16:14Now let's see how Blair's getting on.

0:16:14 > 0:16:18How much confidence is in that face?

0:16:18 > 0:16:20Absolutely none.

0:16:22 > 0:16:26Oh, I think you'd agree that was the least-surprising fall of the day.

0:16:26 > 0:16:29And I can confirm that is the shortest distance

0:16:29 > 0:16:32ever travelled on the Sucker Punch.

0:16:32 > 0:16:36- Oh, this is so horrible.- Yeah, it does look like Blair

0:16:36 > 0:16:39probably won't make it into the top 12 or out of that mud pit.

0:16:39 > 0:16:41While Blair enjoys her bath,

0:16:41 > 0:16:42let's see who's next.

0:16:42 > 0:16:46First stop, second round! Get some!

0:16:49 > 0:16:52This is 22-year-old event organiser Dan,

0:16:52 > 0:16:55and to keep himself one step ahead in the fashion stakes,

0:16:55 > 0:16:57he's opted to wear two headbands.

0:16:57 > 0:17:00All the kids are doing it these days apparently.

0:17:01 > 0:17:05And look at the concentration etched on Dan's face.

0:17:06 > 0:17:08Still on... Oh, he's off!

0:17:08 > 0:17:13That's why he wears two headbands - to keep one clean. Clever!

0:17:13 > 0:17:16- On to the Big Balls now.- Have it! Come on!

0:17:16 > 0:17:17You could be in for a good time.

0:17:17 > 0:17:20Oh, that's got to be the fall of the day!

0:17:21 > 0:17:24Have it! Come on!

0:17:24 > 0:17:28So determined. He's going to cross them, he's going to cross them...

0:17:28 > 0:17:29and then it goes wrong.

0:17:29 > 0:17:33But the most damaging thing about this fall wasn't the blow to Dan's back,

0:17:33 > 0:17:36it was the loss of a precious headband.

0:17:36 > 0:17:38Good job he's got a spare.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40No, he's lost that! Wear three next time.

0:17:40 > 0:17:42Lucky! Have a go!

0:17:42 > 0:17:46Still, a very, very impressive one minute, 22 seconds

0:17:46 > 0:17:48for Headband Dan.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50I think he could be in with a shout today.

0:17:50 > 0:17:55Now it's time to answer the question on everybody's lips.

0:17:55 > 0:17:56How is Blair getting on?

0:17:58 > 0:18:00Go, girl, go. Yes!

0:18:02 > 0:18:05Oh, dear, not at all well.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08Still, Blair picks herself up, dusts herself down,

0:18:08 > 0:18:10and falls off the rope,

0:18:10 > 0:18:14but finally ends up with a time of six minutes, 44.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17Miracles do happen and perhaps Blair has surprised us all

0:18:17 > 0:18:20and hijacked the party at the top of the leader board.

0:18:20 > 0:18:25Unfortunately for Blair, the only miracle for Blair is that she's managed to complete the qualifier

0:18:25 > 0:18:27before it gets dark.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29Let's take a look at the leader board.

0:18:49 > 0:18:53Now, this Total Wipeout course is by no means just for the kids.

0:18:53 > 0:18:56Today's next three proud competitors are flying the flag

0:18:56 > 0:18:58for mums and dads everywhere.

0:18:58 > 0:19:01Let's just hope it doesn't turn out to be a little white flag!

0:19:01 > 0:19:04Meet dad of three, Nigel.

0:19:04 > 0:19:07This is for my friends, my family, my fans!

0:19:07 > 0:19:08I'm a winner!

0:19:08 > 0:19:11With a bit of luck, they won't be watching you, Nigel! Good luck.

0:19:11 > 0:19:17Yeah! I'm going to fly around the course!

0:19:17 > 0:19:19Yes! That's crazy legs Colin.

0:19:19 > 0:19:22I'm doing it for my kids, I'm doing it for Toby and Emily!

0:19:22 > 0:19:24Look what Mummy's doing!

0:19:24 > 0:19:28Yeah. Toby, Emily, you might want to hide behind the sofa for this.

0:19:28 > 0:19:32So, let's see if anyone can show us who's the daddy. Or the mummy.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35Alison's off first. Comes down to earth with a bang!

0:19:39 > 0:19:42Watch and learn, kids, this is textbook slipping!

0:19:42 > 0:19:45Windmill arms, high kicks, finish with a grimace. Perfect!

0:19:49 > 0:19:52Whilst Colin just surfs it in style.

0:20:02 > 0:20:05Nasty! Looks like three children is your lot, Nigel!

0:20:45 > 0:20:47- Yeah!- I'm here!

0:20:47 > 0:20:55Yeah. Yeah. Whoo! Whoo! Yeah.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59So there you go, kids, your dad did well!

0:20:59 > 0:21:02Not well, but he finished. You can be proud!

0:21:02 > 0:21:05There are only five contestants left to go in the Qualifier.

0:21:05 > 0:21:09For those waiting in the wings, the anticipation must be unbearable.

0:21:09 > 0:21:13This is Perran, he's a pastry roller from Cornwall.

0:21:13 > 0:21:15And apparently, quite a talker.

0:21:16 > 0:21:20You are just oozing cool. Are you excited about the course today?

0:21:20 > 0:21:24- Yeah.- Have you been in, you know, really hard training?

0:21:24 > 0:21:26Yeah.

0:21:26 > 0:21:29- Really looking forward to it, then, are we?- Yeah, man!

0:21:29 > 0:21:32I think we've covered everything.

0:21:32 > 0:21:34I am the master of Total Wipeout!

0:21:37 > 0:21:39That looked painful!

0:21:39 > 0:21:42Still, first time that hair's seen water for a while.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47This is impressive stuff. He's a man of few words,

0:21:47 > 0:21:50who obviously likes to let his actions do the talking.

0:21:51 > 0:21:53Perran approaches the Big Balls.

0:21:56 > 0:22:00Perran - part Cornishman, part Wookiee, all wet!

0:22:01 > 0:22:05But Perran isn't down for long, and swings home

0:22:05 > 0:22:08in one minute 30. I'm sure he's got a thing or two to say about that!

0:22:10 > 0:22:12Three words to describe that course?

0:22:12 > 0:22:14Tough...

0:22:14 > 0:22:16I was about to say the same word again!

0:22:16 > 0:22:19Erm...yeah, tough...

0:22:22 > 0:22:24I can't think of any other two!

0:22:25 > 0:22:27Tough, challenging...

0:22:27 > 0:22:32..um...word to describe is not what it looks like.

0:22:32 > 0:22:35Um...

0:22:37 > 0:22:38No, I don't know.

0:22:42 > 0:22:47Each of our 20 lucky competitors has to face the dreaded Sucker Punch,

0:22:47 > 0:22:52and so far today, all have failed miserably to make it across.

0:22:52 > 0:22:53With just four competitors to go,

0:22:53 > 0:22:56will 21-year-old Irish student Adrienne

0:22:56 > 0:22:58be the first to stay out of the mud?

0:23:01 > 0:23:03Quite simply, no.

0:23:04 > 0:23:08She does take two blows to the face before going down.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12Yeah, that did it!

0:23:12 > 0:23:1534-year-old personal trainer Cathy is next.

0:23:15 > 0:23:19I'm here to show you guys how it's done!

0:23:19 > 0:23:22Cathy's a personal trainer, so she's fit,

0:23:22 > 0:23:24but will she be able to beat the Sucker Punch?

0:23:29 > 0:23:30Like so many before,

0:23:30 > 0:23:34Cathy gets up close and personal with the wet, brown stuff.

0:23:34 > 0:23:36By which I mean, she's fallen in the mud.

0:23:36 > 0:23:41Next to try his hand at the fists is cinema projectionist Ben.

0:23:41 > 0:23:44Pain is temporary! Failure is forever!

0:23:44 > 0:23:48Yes, and camouflage is for soldiers, not cinema projectionists.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54Come on, keep going! Ben takes his turn on the Big Balls.

0:23:58 > 0:24:00Having got across the first and second,

0:24:00 > 0:24:02he just gets fingertips to the third,

0:24:02 > 0:24:05it looks so close, and that is the best effort so far today.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10Our last competitor, looking for a place in the top 12,

0:24:10 > 0:24:13is 27-year-old radio DJ, Jon.

0:24:18 > 0:24:19Taking on the Sucker Punch now.

0:24:23 > 0:24:24Once was enough!

0:24:24 > 0:24:27Oh, man, it's muddy!

0:24:27 > 0:24:31That would be the last thing on my mind right now.

0:24:31 > 0:24:34A punch like that first one would bring a tear to most men's eyes!

0:24:36 > 0:24:39It took the second one to knock him off.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47Big Balls, here I come!

0:24:47 > 0:24:50Jon's shouting at the Big Balls,

0:24:50 > 0:24:53employing his abilities as a radio presenter.

0:25:01 > 0:25:05He hits the second ball and manages to get a finger across to the third

0:25:05 > 0:25:07and a face full of rubber!

0:25:07 > 0:25:11And then Jon manages to pioneer a brand new Total Wipeout move -

0:25:11 > 0:25:14I shall christen it "The Scorpion."

0:25:16 > 0:25:20Jon struggles to the finish line in two minutes, 27 seconds.

0:25:20 > 0:25:22But he needs to be one of the fastest 12

0:25:22 > 0:25:25to get through to the next round.

0:25:27 > 0:25:29Here we have our final leader board.

0:25:49 > 0:25:52So, congratulations to today's top 12,

0:25:52 > 0:25:55because they're one step closer to clinching that £10,000 prize.

0:25:55 > 0:25:57Now it's time to turn up the heat.

0:25:57 > 0:26:01By which I mean, let's make more people fall off stuff.

0:26:01 > 0:26:02Bring on the Sweeper!

0:26:07 > 0:26:11All our 12 remaining Brits have to do now

0:26:11 > 0:26:16is stay balanced on their podiums while that big sweeper arm

0:26:16 > 0:26:19tries to knock them off, as it rotates faster and higher with every revolution.

0:26:19 > 0:26:23The first six to fall in the water are eliminated.

0:26:23 > 0:26:25But the sweeper will keep knocking people off

0:26:25 > 0:26:28until we have our last man or woman standing.

0:26:28 > 0:26:33And their prize is a psychological edge going into the next round.

0:26:33 > 0:26:37On podium one, it's a pumped-up and confident Yvonne.

0:26:37 > 0:26:39First to jump, last to fall!

0:26:39 > 0:26:41You're having a laugh!

0:26:41 > 0:26:44Next to her, on podium two, it's action man Johnny.

0:26:44 > 0:26:47Sian and Cathy, you're going down!

0:26:47 > 0:26:49On podiums three, four and five,

0:26:49 > 0:26:52it's Shouty Chris, Colin and gymnast Sian.

0:26:52 > 0:26:55I may be the youngest, but I'm going to show you how it's done!

0:26:55 > 0:27:00On six and seven, it's Cathy and Headband Dan.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03If I get through the Sweeper, I'll be ten grand richer!

0:27:03 > 0:27:05Last six, baby, come on!

0:27:05 > 0:27:08And next to Dan, our Wipeout WAG, Helena.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10I might have came 12th in the Qualifier,

0:27:10 > 0:27:14but I'll be the last woman standing! Whoo!

0:27:14 > 0:27:16Aaah!

0:27:16 > 0:27:21On podiums nine and ten, it's DJ Jon and MC Phil!

0:27:21 > 0:27:23The Sweeper looks so demanding,

0:27:23 > 0:27:26but I'm praying I'll be the last man standing!

0:27:26 > 0:27:29And to round things off, on podiums 11 and 12,

0:27:29 > 0:27:34Ben and Perran.

0:27:34 > 0:27:37Perran there, just realising he's left the gas on.

0:27:37 > 0:27:40So, only six people go through to the next round,

0:27:40 > 0:27:41let's see how they get on. Amanda!

0:27:43 > 0:27:47- Are you all ready up there?- Yeah!

0:27:47 > 0:27:49Yeah, they look absolutely terrified.

0:27:49 > 0:27:53Three...two...one...

0:27:57 > 0:27:59Slow and steady to start.

0:28:05 > 0:28:09Disaster strikes for Colin, his legs have gone a bit too crazy!

0:28:12 > 0:28:14C'est la vie, c'est la guerre!

0:28:14 > 0:28:16Yeah, c'est la you're out, Colin!

0:28:20 > 0:28:23Seconds later, footballer's sweetheart Helena becomes one wet WAG.

0:28:25 > 0:28:28I'm not the last woman standing. First one down!

0:28:46 > 0:28:48I tried my best, that's the best I can do.

0:28:48 > 0:28:53That's the best you can do?! Phil makes a right mess of it

0:28:53 > 0:28:56and nearly takes Ben out. Luckily, Ben hangs on.

0:28:56 > 0:29:00# When the world leaves you feeling blue... #

0:29:00 > 0:29:03Phil, you just lost all that credibility you built up!

0:29:03 > 0:29:05# I will be there for you... #

0:29:05 > 0:29:10Nine contenders are still in the game -

0:29:10 > 0:29:12Yvonne, Johnny, Chris,

0:29:12 > 0:29:16Sian, Cathy, Dan, who's now diving too,

0:29:16 > 0:29:19Jon, Ben and Perran. But only six can go through

0:29:19 > 0:29:22to the next round, so we still need some more tumbles.

0:29:23 > 0:29:25I did it!

0:29:25 > 0:29:29Come on, people, you're all wearing life jackets.

0:29:29 > 0:29:32Be a shame not to use them. Fall off!

0:29:32 > 0:29:35This nine are doing incredibly well.

0:29:37 > 0:29:40CHEERING

0:29:44 > 0:29:46And still they go!

0:29:46 > 0:29:49This nine are just refusing to fall off!

0:29:49 > 0:29:52Yes! Yes, yes, yes!

0:29:52 > 0:29:55Yeah, that's why we call him Shouty Chris.

0:29:57 > 0:30:00Yvonne, this one, you're going down!

0:30:00 > 0:30:03Oh, that's the spirit, Johnny!

0:30:03 > 0:30:08And the Sweeper just keeps on getting faster...and faster...

0:30:08 > 0:30:11Ooh! It's a disaster for DJ Jon!

0:30:11 > 0:30:12I'm so annoyed with myself.

0:30:12 > 0:30:16You know what? I could still be up there.

0:30:16 > 0:30:21Yeah. Judging by that, Jon, your teeth could still be up there!

0:30:21 > 0:30:24With every revolution, the Sweeper speeds up.

0:30:24 > 0:30:28Eight contestants still standing now, but only six go through.

0:30:35 > 0:30:39Headband Dan's barely got time to stand before he's back down,

0:30:39 > 0:30:43but not out. Does anybody want to fall?

0:30:50 > 0:30:54Yvonne's gone! And Chris, too! And that's lights out for Cathy.

0:30:57 > 0:31:01Headband Dan collects the sweeper in the chest, didn't stand a chance.

0:31:01 > 0:31:05Off the podium. But I think he's done the maths here.

0:31:05 > 0:31:09He's celebrating, because he's seen six have already gone down,

0:31:09 > 0:31:12that means he's in the final six to go through.

0:31:12 > 0:31:16Ever sympathetic Amanda there, really feeling for Dan's pain(!)

0:31:16 > 0:31:19But that was carnage! Let's slow this down,

0:31:19 > 0:31:21and see exactly what's going on.

0:31:21 > 0:31:23Down goes Yvonne, that's seven left,

0:31:23 > 0:31:26then Chris goes down - we have our final six.

0:31:26 > 0:31:29Then just behind him is Cathy.

0:31:31 > 0:31:34She goes down, but she hits the water after Chris,

0:31:34 > 0:31:37that means she goes through to the next round.

0:31:37 > 0:31:39Chris and Yvonne are out.

0:31:39 > 0:31:42I was so scared up there, I was terrified!

0:31:42 > 0:31:45I thought, "I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this!"

0:31:45 > 0:31:48It just caught the tip of my toe.

0:31:48 > 0:31:52I just think, in one more sequence, I'd have made it.

0:31:52 > 0:31:56Last man standing, come on! No bird's going to beat me!

0:31:56 > 0:31:59You'll have to forgive Johnny, he's only nine years old.

0:31:59 > 0:32:02No bird's going to beat me! Come on!

0:32:12 > 0:32:15Justice, ladies and gentlemen, is served up, Total Wipeout style.

0:32:15 > 0:32:17He's gone!

0:32:17 > 0:32:19So, Sian, Ben and Perran are left.

0:32:19 > 0:32:21Who will be our last man standing?

0:32:30 > 0:32:33No wonder Sian didn't clear that - it's up to waist height on her!

0:32:33 > 0:32:37Aagh! That looks nasty.

0:32:39 > 0:32:40Funny, but nasty.

0:32:40 > 0:32:44We started with 12, we're down to the last two.

0:32:48 > 0:32:50Hold your horses!

0:32:50 > 0:32:55I think...yeah, Perran has definitely just fallen off.

0:32:57 > 0:33:00That makes big Ben our last man standing and Sweeper king!

0:33:02 > 0:33:03So, 12 are now six.

0:33:03 > 0:33:07Let's remind ourselves who they are and how they got here.

0:33:07 > 0:33:12First up, it's our number one Qualifier and fashion icon, Headband Dan.

0:33:12 > 0:33:15Let's have a go!

0:33:15 > 0:33:19Next, it's the pint-sized pixie from Wales, gymnast Sian.

0:33:19 > 0:33:20You ain't seen nothing yet!

0:33:23 > 0:33:27Then there's action man Johnny. Truly, a man for the new millennium.

0:33:27 > 0:33:28No bird's going to beat me!

0:33:28 > 0:33:33Yeah. Then, there's personal trainer and mum of three, Cathy.

0:33:33 > 0:33:35I'm here to show you guys how it's done!

0:33:37 > 0:33:40And we've got Cornish pastry roller, chatty Perran.

0:33:40 > 0:33:43I am the master of Total Wipeout!

0:33:43 > 0:33:46Stranger to the barber, but a master nonetheless.

0:33:46 > 0:33:50And finally, there's camouflage-wearing cinema projectionist, big...

0:33:50 > 0:33:55- Pain is temporary!- ..bad... - Failure is forever!- ..Ben, the Sweeper king.

0:33:57 > 0:34:00These six have been through a lot. But it doesn't get any easier,

0:34:00 > 0:34:03so let's give them a huge amount of encouragement,

0:34:03 > 0:34:06as we watch them falling over and getting wet.

0:34:06 > 0:34:08Let's move on to the Dizzy Dummies.

0:34:13 > 0:34:17Here's how it works - we spin the competitors round and round

0:34:17 > 0:34:21and when they can barely walk, we ask them to battle across obstacles

0:34:21 > 0:34:24that would be difficult enough if you weren't dizzy.

0:34:24 > 0:34:27We run the game three times, and each time,

0:34:27 > 0:34:30the last person across will be eliminated,

0:34:30 > 0:34:32leaving us with our three finalists.

0:34:32 > 0:34:36Quite simply, the object of the game is don't come last!

0:34:36 > 0:34:38The first obstacles are the Tippy Tables,

0:34:38 > 0:34:44and then it's on to the Dock Maze. All clear? Let's get spinning!

0:34:48 > 0:34:52Off they all go, 40 seconds of high speed spinning.

0:34:52 > 0:34:55Six people in a human centrifuge. Rather them than me!

0:34:55 > 0:35:01- Aaargh!- Somebody's screaming. I think it's Ben.

0:35:01 > 0:35:05- Ben does not look good! - Oh, he'll get better.

0:35:05 > 0:35:07Eventually.

0:35:07 > 0:35:12And they're off! Sian's first out of the blocks,

0:35:12 > 0:35:16Johnny's got other ideas. Ladies first, Johnny? No, thought not.

0:35:21 > 0:35:24Johnny makes a dash for it and crosses the line.

0:35:26 > 0:35:29Sian, Perran and Cathy have all slipped into the water.

0:35:33 > 0:35:36Dan, now, out in front, on his own.

0:35:36 > 0:35:39And he dives over the finish line.

0:35:44 > 0:35:47Perran, there, he doesn't hang around! Will he...?

0:35:47 > 0:35:50Yes, he has, he's made it!

0:35:50 > 0:35:54So, Sian, Cathy and Ben are left. Sian's got the tables to herself.

0:35:54 > 0:35:57And she's safe!

0:35:58 > 0:36:01Last one over's out, remember that!

0:36:01 > 0:36:05So, either Cathy or Ben will be eliminated.

0:36:05 > 0:36:07Ben does his best to upset the table,

0:36:07 > 0:36:09but only succeeds in falling in himself!

0:36:09 > 0:36:12That could be curtains for our Sweeper king.

0:36:12 > 0:36:15ALL: Cathy! Cathy! Cathy!

0:36:15 > 0:36:18There's only one place up for grabs.

0:36:18 > 0:36:21Cathy's made it, it's hers! Ben is eliminated.

0:36:24 > 0:36:29Ben, so close but so very, very far! Where did it all go wrong?

0:36:29 > 0:36:31I just couldn't get a grip.

0:36:31 > 0:36:35Went onto it, but just slipped, couldn't get a grip.

0:36:35 > 0:36:39- Did you think you might have beat her across?- No, far from it!

0:36:39 > 0:36:43Five left, and one more is about to be eliminated,

0:36:43 > 0:36:46this time by the Dock Maze. Our competitors are strapped in.

0:36:46 > 0:36:48The Dizzy Dummy is primed.

0:36:48 > 0:36:51And apparently, they've all had Scotch eggs for lunch.

0:36:52 > 0:36:54I can't believe we're doing this again!

0:36:54 > 0:37:00So, off they spin, once again, round and round and round they go,

0:37:00 > 0:37:05for 40 sickening seconds. I feel ill just watching!

0:37:11 > 0:37:13Johnny's out first, closely followed by Sian.

0:37:18 > 0:37:24Headband Dan dives in, and takes Sian and Perran out as well.

0:37:26 > 0:37:32That leaves Johnny out in front to cross the line. Go on, Johnny!

0:37:32 > 0:37:35Will he? Yes, he has! Still without a drop of water on him.

0:37:35 > 0:37:38Sian's back at the start.

0:37:38 > 0:37:41Watch out, cos here comes Dan.

0:37:41 > 0:37:44Dan all over Perrin like a cheap suit.

0:37:44 > 0:37:46Or a dodgy hairstyle.

0:37:46 > 0:37:49Sian just inches from the line. ..Oh, she's fallen in!

0:37:52 > 0:37:56Cathy and Headband Dan on the same block. Perrin jumps on with them.

0:37:56 > 0:38:00Surely this now can end only one way.

0:38:00 > 0:38:05That way. Now Perrin is stranded miles away from the last block.

0:38:05 > 0:38:06What can he do?

0:38:08 > 0:38:11That was an astonishing leap.

0:38:11 > 0:38:13A fine effort, but no cigar.

0:38:13 > 0:38:16Just a mouthful of wet hair.

0:38:16 > 0:38:22Sian has done a clever thing - wait for the pontoons to float back together again.

0:38:22 > 0:38:25- She is across. She's done it. - CHEERING

0:38:25 > 0:38:28So three are left - only two can continue.

0:38:28 > 0:38:32Perrin spots a gap round Cathy, but they both end up in the water.

0:38:32 > 0:38:35Dan now holding on for dear life.

0:38:35 > 0:38:39And Headband Dan crawls over the finish line.

0:38:39 > 0:38:40I think he's relieved.

0:38:40 > 0:38:45Only Perrin and Cathy left. The last one across will be eliminated.

0:38:45 > 0:38:47Perrin makes a run for it.

0:38:47 > 0:38:50And leaps for the line like a Cornish kangaroo.

0:38:50 > 0:38:55And he's made it! He's made it! Cathy is eliminated.

0:38:57 > 0:39:00Cathy, you've such a competitive streak in you.

0:39:00 > 0:39:02Do you feel gutted right now?

0:39:02 > 0:39:03Yeah, I'm gutted, I'm gutted.

0:39:03 > 0:39:08Listen, you've been wonderful, but those strong legs of yours couldn't get into the next round.

0:39:08 > 0:39:11- But well done, Cathy.- Thank you.- OK.

0:39:11 > 0:39:14Although Cathy and Ben have both been eliminated,

0:39:14 > 0:39:17we still need to lose one more competitor.

0:39:17 > 0:39:20So the stragglers must strap themselves back in.

0:39:20 > 0:39:24And the Argentinian bloke that powers the Dizzy Dummy needs to get back on his bike.

0:39:24 > 0:39:27So it is the last spin for this lot.

0:39:27 > 0:39:32The loser will be kissing goodbye to any chance of winning the £10,000 prize money.

0:39:32 > 0:39:35Remember, only the first three will go through to the Wipeout Zone.

0:39:35 > 0:39:38- Slowing to a stop. - KLAXON

0:39:38 > 0:39:42- And they're off.- Here they go. One last attempt.

0:39:42 > 0:39:43Oh, my God!

0:39:46 > 0:39:48Oh, disaster for Johnny as he takes a dip in the water

0:39:48 > 0:39:50for the first time.

0:39:50 > 0:39:52About time too.

0:39:53 > 0:39:58Headband Dan has made a right mess of it which leaves Sian with a clear roll across the tables.

0:40:01 > 0:40:04And she's across the first table. And the second!

0:40:04 > 0:40:06And she's through to the Wipeout Zone.

0:40:06 > 0:40:09- Go, Sian! - We have a woman in the final!

0:40:11 > 0:40:15Johnny's off again. Did Headband Dan just tip the table?

0:40:15 > 0:40:18And Dan's tipped Perrin in too!

0:40:18 > 0:40:20Dirty but effective tactics from Headband Dan.

0:40:20 > 0:40:24- Dan, Dan, Dan! - He's across the first table.

0:40:24 > 0:40:26He's not making friends, but he is making distance.

0:40:26 > 0:40:29He's over the second and through to the Wipeout Zone.

0:40:29 > 0:40:34So Sian and Dan are already through.

0:40:34 > 0:40:36It's Perrin versus Johnny

0:40:36 > 0:40:39for the last place in the final.

0:40:39 > 0:40:42Perrin using all his strength to have a last go,

0:40:42 > 0:40:45but Action Man Johnny jumps on

0:40:45 > 0:40:46and completely upsets the table.

0:40:46 > 0:40:50I think he may have done that on purpose.

0:40:50 > 0:40:51Yes!

0:40:51 > 0:40:56He springs for the line and Johnny has done it. He's in the final with Sian and Dan.

0:40:56 > 0:40:57Perrin is eliminated.

0:40:57 > 0:41:00Where did it all go wrong? Was it the very end?

0:41:00 > 0:41:02I just kept sliding off.

0:41:02 > 0:41:07For someone who didn't say very much at the beginning, you were full of beans on that last round.

0:41:07 > 0:41:08No problem, man.

0:41:08 > 0:41:12Couldn't have put it better myself. Well, couldn't have put it the same way.

0:41:12 > 0:41:14Perrin, Cathy and Ben are out.

0:41:14 > 0:41:18Sian, Dan and Action Man Johnny go through to the Wipeout Zone

0:41:18 > 0:41:21for their chance to win that £10,000 prize.

0:41:21 > 0:41:25But before we unleash our three finalists on the most challenging

0:41:25 > 0:41:28and downright scary obstacle course in the world,

0:41:28 > 0:41:31let's have a look at their journey to today's final.

0:41:33 > 0:41:37Getting to the final was... an amazing achievement for me.

0:41:37 > 0:41:41Facing the Wipeout Zone tonight, I feel anxious, nervous.

0:41:41 > 0:41:44Like nothing I've done before. It'll be a tough course.

0:41:44 > 0:41:45Now we're down to the last three,

0:41:45 > 0:41:49we're each looking at each other, knowing one person will win that 10 grand.

0:41:49 > 0:41:52And, yeah, it's a lot more competitive.

0:41:55 > 0:42:00I'm surprised Sian's here, being a girl. I expected three fit males to be there.

0:42:00 > 0:42:04I'm pleased there's a girl in the final. It's between me or Johnny now.

0:42:04 > 0:42:07Dan and Johnny don't think I can do very well.

0:42:07 > 0:42:12And they think they've got it easy, but I'll give them a run for their money.

0:42:14 > 0:42:16I think people underestimate me a lot.

0:42:16 > 0:42:18Sian, the little girl from Wales.

0:42:18 > 0:42:22She's smaller, probably slower.

0:42:22 > 0:42:26She'll not be able to keep up with our physical stamina and mental ability.

0:42:26 > 0:42:29I'm going to do it for the girls, for Wales. I'll give it all I've got.

0:42:31 > 0:42:35I'm going to win Total Wipeout cos I'm best competitor there is.

0:42:35 > 0:42:38I deserve to be up there and I will be the winner at the end.

0:42:38 > 0:42:43I've been confident throughout, I've been leading throughout. I'm going to roll it in the final.

0:42:50 > 0:42:54Night has fallen in Buenos Aires. That's in Argentina. Keep up.

0:42:54 > 0:42:59Our three finalists are readying themselves for the biggest challenge of their lives.

0:42:59 > 0:43:03It's called the Wipeout Zone, and you've never seen anything like it.

0:43:03 > 0:43:05Unless you saw last week's show.

0:43:05 > 0:43:07Or the one before that.

0:43:07 > 0:43:10OK, so it's an obstacle course like you may have seen before,

0:43:10 > 0:43:12but it's still massive and really frightening.

0:43:18 > 0:43:21This is what our three finalists - Johnny, Dan and Sian -

0:43:21 > 0:43:22have to face.

0:43:22 > 0:43:26First, they launch themselves down the high-speed Killer Surf.

0:43:26 > 0:43:31Next it's a swing to the Barrel Run where they hurdle 50kg barrels

0:43:31 > 0:43:33as they roll towards them.

0:43:33 > 0:43:36Then it's a treacherous and slippery climb across the Waterfall

0:43:36 > 0:43:40before leaping onto the fast-moving Spinner,

0:43:40 > 0:43:43traversing the Rolling Beam and finishing with a leap

0:43:43 > 0:43:44off the Launch Pads.

0:43:44 > 0:43:48The fastest finalist will be tonight's winner and take home

0:43:48 > 0:43:49the £10,000 prize.

0:43:49 > 0:43:52They have waded through water,

0:43:52 > 0:43:53bounced off balls

0:43:53 > 0:43:55and spun themselves dizzy,

0:43:55 > 0:43:58all in an attempt to get to the most difficult challenge yet -

0:43:58 > 0:44:00the Wipeout Zone.

0:44:00 > 0:44:02And first to go is Johnny.

0:44:04 > 0:44:06Come on, yes!

0:44:06 > 0:44:10So ex-soldier Johnny is up first.

0:44:10 > 0:44:12- KLAXON - No doubt desperate to beat Sian.

0:44:16 > 0:44:19Super-competitive Action Man Johnny is off.

0:44:19 > 0:44:23Swims now towards the Barrel Run. Johnny used to be in the army,

0:44:23 > 0:44:26so should have plenty of experience on obstacle courses.

0:44:26 > 0:44:28Though not necessarily exactly like this one.

0:44:31 > 0:44:34I probably should mention that walkway is covered in grease.

0:44:34 > 0:44:39And those barrels now rolling towards him weigh a whopping 50kg.

0:44:39 > 0:44:42Ooh!

0:44:44 > 0:44:48Johnny's adapted his style halfway through. It's less dignified

0:44:48 > 0:44:50but still effective.

0:44:50 > 0:44:53Don't forget, he's got to set the time for the other two to beat.

0:44:53 > 0:44:57Now he's onto the wet and slippery Climbing Wall.

0:44:57 > 0:45:01Ooh, that was nearly a very costly slip.

0:45:01 > 0:45:04Maybe he's trying to keep the tension up for us watching.

0:45:04 > 0:45:08The Spinner. He's got to leap onto it. Johnny prepares. ..He's across!

0:45:08 > 0:45:11He makes it and, more importantly, he's got something to hold onto.

0:45:11 > 0:45:15But the longer he stays on the Spinner, the dizzier he'll get.

0:45:15 > 0:45:18That'll make it harder for the next obstacle.

0:45:19 > 0:45:22Nice work! He's done it first time.

0:45:22 > 0:45:25Just the Rolling Beam and Launch Pads to go now.

0:45:25 > 0:45:30No problem there for Johnny. I'd say we could be in for a very good time.

0:45:30 > 0:45:32Oh! He's made his first error.

0:45:32 > 0:45:36It was all going so well for Johnny up until that point.

0:45:36 > 0:45:40And that mistake will cost him vital seconds.

0:45:40 > 0:45:42Johnny now climbs up the ladder.

0:45:42 > 0:45:45He's got to go back up to the first Launch Pad

0:45:45 > 0:45:47and make it to the second.

0:45:47 > 0:45:49Oh, he's fallen in again! This is a disaster

0:45:49 > 0:45:51for Action Man Johnny.

0:45:51 > 0:45:53Great news for womankind.

0:45:53 > 0:45:54For him, a disaster.

0:45:54 > 0:45:56After such a promising start,

0:45:56 > 0:46:02it's all turned into a frustrating end. This could cost him 10 grand.

0:46:02 > 0:46:03Keeping control now.

0:46:06 > 0:46:09Onto the second trampoline.

0:46:09 > 0:46:11He can nearly touch the finish line!

0:46:14 > 0:46:16He's there!

0:46:16 > 0:46:17And Johnny has done it

0:46:17 > 0:46:20with a time of...

0:46:21 > 0:46:26But he'll be so annoyed with himself. He made such a strong start in the Wipeout Zone,

0:46:26 > 0:46:27but then threw it all away

0:46:27 > 0:46:28on the Launch Pads.

0:46:32 > 0:46:35- What happened?- I don't know. I just couldn't do it.

0:46:35 > 0:46:37It went in too fast, too quick.

0:46:37 > 0:46:41- I expected that to be easy, having been in the army!- I can tell you right now

0:46:41 > 0:46:45- that your time was 4 minutes and 24 seconds.- Oh, well. OK.

0:46:45 > 0:46:47Right. Next up is Dan.

0:46:49 > 0:46:52Let's have it right! Let's go! KLAXON

0:46:52 > 0:46:54Whoo!

0:46:58 > 0:47:01And he's off!

0:47:01 > 0:47:03Dan, a 22-year-old event organiser from Surrey,

0:47:03 > 0:47:06front-crawls his way through the water.

0:47:08 > 0:47:09Crawls his way up the beam.

0:47:09 > 0:47:14Onto the Barrel Run where he's got to try and stay out of the way

0:47:14 > 0:47:16of those barrels.

0:47:17 > 0:47:20Ooh! It was nearly all over before it started.

0:47:21 > 0:47:25Dan's opting for Johnny's slightly over-dramatic leaping technique.

0:47:25 > 0:47:27It does look effective,

0:47:27 > 0:47:30but I suspect it costs him valuable time.

0:47:33 > 0:47:37He's getting over, he's staying on, but it's taking time.

0:47:37 > 0:47:40Onto the wall now, Dan feeling the full force

0:47:40 > 0:47:43of the water crashing down on him at a rate of 2,000 litres a minute.

0:47:43 > 0:47:46Come on! Come on!

0:47:46 > 0:47:49Support from his competitors.

0:47:51 > 0:47:55So to the Spinner. Will he get on first time like Johnny?

0:47:57 > 0:47:58Yeah, he does.

0:47:58 > 0:48:02Dan is safely on. Now he's got to wait for the perfect time to leap.

0:48:02 > 0:48:06Get the timing wrong and he's in the drink - that will cost him time.

0:48:09 > 0:48:13Excellent judgement from Headband Dan.

0:48:15 > 0:48:18Now Dan needs to steady himself for the Roller Beam.

0:48:22 > 0:48:26But he's made light work of that. Oh, no! Disaster for Dan!

0:48:26 > 0:48:29He's face-planted onto the first Launch Pad.

0:48:29 > 0:48:33Out of control. A slip. I don't know what happened but that's gotta hurt.

0:48:33 > 0:48:36The clock keeps on ticking while Dan clambers back up

0:48:36 > 0:48:37for another go.

0:48:37 > 0:48:40A more gentle approach works better this time.

0:48:40 > 0:48:42Making the leap to the second pad.

0:48:42 > 0:48:46Dan's showing Johnny how this should be done now.

0:48:47 > 0:48:48And he's done it!

0:48:48 > 0:48:50In a time of...

0:48:50 > 0:48:54- Easy!- Strong display from Headband Dan, but he doesn't know yet

0:48:54 > 0:48:56whether he's beaten Johnny.

0:48:58 > 0:49:01That was an impressive performance.

0:49:01 > 0:49:04A more cautious approach on the Launch Pad paid off for Dan

0:49:04 > 0:49:09in the end, but will it be paying out to the tune of 10 grand?

0:49:09 > 0:49:12Come on out to me, Dan the man! How was that for you?

0:49:12 > 0:49:15It was good fun, yeah. Really enjoyed that.

0:49:15 > 0:49:19- Win or lose now, it's the experience that it's all about.- The question is

0:49:19 > 0:49:22are you faster than Johnny?

0:49:24 > 0:49:25And I can tell you

0:49:25 > 0:49:29- that you were indeed faster! - Yeah, brilliant!

0:49:31 > 0:49:35So Dan has raced around the course and beaten Johnny's time

0:49:35 > 0:49:37by some margin.

0:49:37 > 0:49:40It is now a straight contest between Sian and Dan

0:49:40 > 0:49:42for that £10,000 prize

0:49:42 > 0:49:45and the title of Total Wipeout champion.

0:49:45 > 0:49:46Let's head back to the start line.

0:49:51 > 0:49:53Next to go is gymnastics coach Sian.

0:49:53 > 0:49:55- KLAXON - She started today's qualifier

0:49:55 > 0:49:57with some impressive flipping.

0:50:00 > 0:50:02She needs to be flipping impressive now.

0:50:02 > 0:50:05Making her way towards the beam.

0:50:05 > 0:50:09These beams covered in grease makes it so hard to drag herself out

0:50:09 > 0:50:11of the water when she gets there.

0:50:11 > 0:50:14Sian isn't as tall as her two rivals,

0:50:14 > 0:50:18which is definitely a disadvantage going into the Barrel Run.
