0:00:02 > 0:00:03Buenos Aires, Argentina.

0:00:03 > 0:00:057,000 miles from home.

0:00:05 > 0:00:0820 ordinary British men and women,

0:00:08 > 0:00:12including a police officer, a taxi driver and a hairdresser,

0:00:12 > 0:00:17are about to tackle the toughest and most stupid obstacle course in the world.

0:00:17 > 0:00:21Who will be our champion, and who will crash and burn?

0:00:21 > 0:00:25Time to find out. It's Total Wipeout.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Let the games commence.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Welcome to Total Wipeout.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35It's that time of the week again,

0:00:35 > 0:00:39where you get comfy on your sofa and we all watch people fall off stuff.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42And from the letters and e-mails I've been getting,

0:00:42 > 0:00:46it's people falling off those Big Balls that have been concerning you the most.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49Apparently, you think it's impossible.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52But Handsome Ollie nearly made it.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Dr Dolittle David nearly made it.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Big Bad Ben SO nearly made it.

0:01:02 > 0:01:07But the question is, will anyone ever actually make it across?

0:01:07 > 0:01:08Perhaps today's the day.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12So we've got a whole new bunch of contestants chasing that £10,000 first prize.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14This is what they face.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17The Qualifier.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18The Sweeper.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Dizzy Dummies.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21And The Wipeout Zone.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25As always, we start with 20 competitors,

0:01:25 > 0:01:31but only the 12 fastest will make it past the first round, The Qualifier.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38It's the course you've come to know and love,

0:01:38 > 0:01:43but this week we've put in two new, exciting obstacles.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44Firstly, it's The Rolling Logs.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46They're really easy.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51Provided you're a lumberjack, or Michael Flatley.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Next, our old friend The Suckerpunch.

0:01:55 > 0:02:00Then it's on to the only obstacle that needs no introduction, it's The Big Balls.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07And to finish the course, it's the second of our terrifying new elements,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09introducing The Bubble Bath!

0:02:09 > 0:02:13But I can't make that sound scary. But, actually, it is pretty tricky.

0:02:13 > 0:02:19All our competitors need to do is land in it, and the clock will stop.

0:02:19 > 0:02:23So let's cross over to the top of the course where my gorgeous co-host

0:02:23 > 0:02:29Amanda Byram is with 37 year-old Deano in the blazing-hot sunshine.

0:02:29 > 0:02:34I'm quite happy here in my tiny studio. Can we have the heating on?

0:02:34 > 0:02:35Thank you.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37You are in fact a taxi driver,

0:02:37 > 0:02:41so the question I have for you is, what route are you going to take around this course?

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Well, like all taxi drivers, the quickest.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Way!

0:02:46 > 0:02:50I must be out of my tiny little mind!

0:02:50 > 0:02:51Come on!

0:02:55 > 0:02:58So here's Deano, taxi driver from Clacton on Sea.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00Mouthful of water there,

0:03:00 > 0:03:04so unfortunately we can't hear his views on speed cameras and West Ham.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07Hauls himself out. He's up and running.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11Now, I always give taxi drivers a tip, so here it is.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14Deano, don't fall off those logs.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Now, because cabbie Deano made it as far as the second log,

0:03:19 > 0:03:24he doesn't have to start the whole obstacle again.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28So it's on to The Suckerpunch.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35Of course, as a cabbie, Deano is no stranger to fists flying.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38It's just like the nightshift in Clacton. So he brushes it off.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41This probably is unusual. Now he heads up the ramp.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43You knows what's coming. So does he.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46It's The Big Balls.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48Deano the taxi driver has every intention

0:03:48 > 0:03:52of jumping over the first ball and landing on the second.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54She's such a comfort.

0:03:54 > 0:03:59Now, will Deano be the first Brit ever to make it all the way across?

0:03:59 > 0:04:02No!

0:04:04 > 0:04:06Nice shorts, though.

0:04:06 > 0:04:07For England and St George!

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Oh, the dignity.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13But the clock hasn't stopped ticking.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17Deano needs to get up that ladder ready for the final obstacle,

0:04:17 > 0:04:19- ECHO:- 'The Bubble Bath'.

0:04:19 > 0:04:21I still can't make it sound scary,

0:04:21 > 0:04:24- but it's quite a thing to have ahead of you.- Come on, Deano!

0:04:24 > 0:04:28Remember, only the top 12 qualify, so he needs a good time.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34And he's in! He made it. Wow!

0:04:35 > 0:04:39So cabbie Deano has finished in 2 minutes 48.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42Let's call it 3 minutes, Deano. Keep the change.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45But there are plenty of finely-tuned athletes still to come.

0:04:47 > 0:04:51And then there's also 22 year-old welding student Daniel.

0:04:56 > 0:04:57It's terrifying.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02Daniel, I hear you're a very ambitious young man. Is that right?

0:05:02 > 0:05:04Yeah, it is. I want to be in the RAF.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06I want to do something macho, and...

0:05:06 > 0:05:10there's no point in not being ambitious. I didn't come to lose.

0:05:10 > 0:05:11I'm a winner. I'm a born winner.

0:05:11 > 0:05:13I'm not the last horse in the race.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15I'm there. I'm the top jockey.

0:05:15 > 0:05:19I am the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!

0:05:22 > 0:05:24Built up a lot of speed. He's in.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26Yes! Come on, Daniel.

0:05:26 > 0:05:27Yes!

0:05:28 > 0:05:31This is just getting started.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33And we're away. Yes.

0:05:37 > 0:05:38# Like a puppet on a string... #

0:05:42 > 0:05:44On to The Log Roll.

0:05:44 > 0:05:46First step. He's on.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48Yes, yes!

0:05:49 > 0:05:52Oh! Oh!

0:05:52 > 0:05:56I'm afraid, as Daniel didn't make it to the other side of the second log,

0:05:56 > 0:05:59he'll have to go back and have another go. Oh, good.

0:05:59 > 0:06:01Oh, yes!

0:06:03 > 0:06:09This time he did get beyond the second one, so he made it, kind of.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17On to The Suckerpunch.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26For a sturdy fellow he moves quickly. When punched! Ooh!

0:06:29 > 0:06:33Book me into the next CSI when I get back.

0:06:33 > 0:06:37Right, what will Daniel's strategy be for these Big Balls?

0:06:37 > 0:06:39Well, for a man who wants to be in the RAF,

0:06:39 > 0:06:43I'm fully expecting this to be his trajectory. Straight across.

0:06:43 > 0:06:47Yes! Preparing for take-off. That might help. It might help.

0:06:52 > 0:06:54It so didn't help! Look at him.

0:06:54 > 0:06:58Soar like a... Oh, dear, house brick.

0:07:06 > 0:07:09I think I can see Daniel's bum!

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Well, if he wins 10 grand, Amanda,

0:07:11 > 0:07:13he can buy some better shorts. The Bubble Bath.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15Come on, Daniel!

0:07:15 > 0:07:17Yes. Here we go...

0:07:23 > 0:07:24Oh, dear.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26That's not even a noble failure, is it?

0:07:27 > 0:07:30As Wing Commander Daniel missed the bubbles,

0:07:30 > 0:07:32he's got to swim to the podium,

0:07:32 > 0:07:33which he's done.

0:07:35 > 0:07:39Yes! And he's finished in a time of 4 minutes 30.

0:07:39 > 0:07:46Not exactly a vintage performance, Daniel, but can our more vintage competitors do any better?

0:07:46 > 0:07:50Let's start with today's oldest contestant, 60-year-old Tim.

0:07:50 > 0:07:54Well, I'm here now at the top of the course with police sergeant Tim.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57Tim, have you been keeping fit by chasing all those robbers?

0:07:57 > 0:08:02Well, sometimes, Amanda, but do you know, a lot of the time I keep fit by dancing.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05Oh, I think you're just gonna have to give me a bit of a cha cha cha

0:08:05 > 0:08:07to show me how well you can do it.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13MUSIC: "Guaglione" by Perez Prado

0:08:19 > 0:08:22Elvira is a 46-year-old swimming teacher from Belfast.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25She's warmed up for the course ahead,

0:08:25 > 0:08:28as she wouldn't want to hurt herself, now, would she?

0:08:30 > 0:08:32And she's off. Here we go.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35On to the logs.

0:08:35 > 0:08:36Oh!

0:08:36 > 0:08:39- Ow!- But at least she warmed up.

0:08:39 > 0:08:43Tim's not having much luck with the logs either.

0:08:43 > 0:08:48Meet 48-year-old John from Swindon. He's a skipping teacher.

0:08:48 > 0:08:50We do lots of different skips.

0:08:50 > 0:08:54One that we do is called a pretzel, which goes something like this.

0:08:54 > 0:08:58I've got a skipping rope in my hand, and then skipping like this.

0:09:00 > 0:09:02Ooh! Right in the pretzel!

0:09:03 > 0:09:09Elvira also fills the wrath of The Suckerpunch, right in the face.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11Tim's on The Big Balls...

0:09:11 > 0:09:14and off The Big Balls. Straight away.

0:09:19 > 0:09:21Now it's Skippy John's turn.

0:09:21 > 0:09:23Ooh!

0:09:23 > 0:09:25Great somersault.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30And here's Elvira. Nice dive!

0:09:33 > 0:09:37He looks like a little lost turtle on his back, trying to find home.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42Skippy John heads for the finish.

0:09:42 > 0:09:43Elvira looks like she's wavering, there.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46This is the easy bit, Elvira.

0:09:46 > 0:09:48You've got the hard stuff over with.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50I don't like heights. I cannot do it.

0:09:50 > 0:09:51No, Mandy, you've got the easy bit.

0:09:51 > 0:09:56She's given up, but PC Tim does his generation proud

0:09:56 > 0:09:58and completes the course in style.

0:09:58 > 0:10:02So, whilst PC Tim paddles his way out of that Bubble Bath,

0:10:02 > 0:10:04let's look at where everyone's landed on the leaderboard.

0:10:04 > 0:10:06Skippy John's at the top,

0:10:06 > 0:10:09showing that experience is more important than youth

0:10:09 > 0:10:11with a time of 1 minute 53 seconds.

0:10:11 > 0:10:14He's followed by cabbie Deano and Wing Commander Daniel.

0:10:14 > 0:10:16PC Tim swings into fifth place,

0:10:16 > 0:10:19and Elvira didn't actually finish the course,

0:10:19 > 0:10:21so she'll remain at the bottom of the leaderboard.

0:10:21 > 0:10:25Next up, meet 24-year-old Lucy from Manchester.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28I'm gonna hop, skip and jump all round this course!

0:10:28 > 0:10:30No Big Balls are going to defeat me!

0:10:30 > 0:10:32Lucy works in a fancy dress shop. Might actually help.

0:10:32 > 0:10:36On to The Rolling Logs. How will she do?

0:10:38 > 0:10:40Lucy Liu...

0:10:40 > 0:10:44Looks balanced. Oh! She's down, but not out, by the looks of things.

0:10:44 > 0:10:48SHE LAUGHS

0:10:48 > 0:10:51That is one tactic I have never seen before.

0:10:54 > 0:10:59Dignity, there. Yeah.

0:11:05 > 0:11:06And she's done it.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11Now on to the Suckerpunch.

0:11:11 > 0:11:14Lucy did ask us if she could do this course

0:11:14 > 0:11:16in one of her fancy dress costumes, and we said no,

0:11:16 > 0:11:19because that would make her look silly.

0:11:19 > 0:11:20That's our job.

0:11:20 > 0:11:23See? We're very, very good at it.

0:11:23 > 0:11:25Oh, my God! Oh!

0:11:25 > 0:11:26If she'd come in fancy dress,

0:11:26 > 0:11:28she'd only have come dressed as a pirate,

0:11:28 > 0:11:31because that's the only fancy dress costume you can have.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33# Hit me baby one more time... #

0:11:33 > 0:11:35How would that have helped there? See, it wouldn't.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37Now Lucy approaches The Big Balls.

0:11:37 > 0:11:41And... she doesn't even make the second one!

0:11:41 > 0:11:43It's like it wasn't there!

0:11:43 > 0:11:46Yet another contestant fails to conquer The Big Balls.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49Will anyone ever manage to get across them?

0:11:49 > 0:11:51Now, The Bubble Bath.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53Still can't make it sound scary.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56I'm definitely going for that Bubble Bath.

0:12:00 > 0:12:02Here we go. Up and over... Oh.

0:12:02 > 0:12:08And Fancy Dress Lucy finishes the course in 3 minutes and 36 seconds.

0:12:08 > 0:12:13She'll be hoping that's enough to take her into the all-important top 12.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15Now, obviously, our competitors wouldn't be

0:12:15 > 0:12:20taking on the Total Wipeout course if they didn't think they could win.

0:12:20 > 0:12:27But some have a teensy bit more self-belief than others, naming no names.

0:12:27 > 0:12:29Apart from Steve, James and Jodie.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34How do you rate your chances?

0:12:34 > 0:12:39Pretty good, to be fair. Yeah, if I don't win this I don't know what's gone wrong, to be honest.

0:12:39 > 0:12:42I just absolutely love beating people, really.

0:12:42 > 0:12:46I love the challenge and just kind of like really

0:12:46 > 0:12:50trying my hardest to beat as many people as I possibly can.

0:12:50 > 0:12:52Now, Jodie, this is a competition.

0:12:52 > 0:12:53Are you a competitive woman?

0:12:53 > 0:12:55Very.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58So, our three self-proclaimed champions are off.

0:13:05 > 0:13:09Wow! Amazing! Student James from Kent loves fire-eating,

0:13:09 > 0:13:13fire-breathing and just generally being a hazard at music festivals.

0:13:16 > 0:13:20Here's 26 year-old Jodie from Surrey. A bit more cautious.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22Doing well, though.

0:13:25 > 0:13:27Great effort.

0:13:27 > 0:13:3125 year-old salesman Steve's taking a throw yourself at the logs

0:13:31 > 0:13:33approach, and it works!

0:13:33 > 0:13:37So James got off to the best start out of our three.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39Beautiful. Just like Free Willy.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41With a lifejacket. And a helmet.

0:13:41 > 0:13:46On to The Suckerpunch and humble Steve is the first to go. Oh.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49Yes, that will have hurt.

0:13:49 > 0:13:54Jodie now is losing ground on the boys. And she's in the mud.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05Oh, dear,

0:14:05 > 0:14:08the Suckerpunch has punched the fire-breathing hippy in the face.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10Ah, look at that.

0:14:15 > 0:14:19Surely one of these super-fit athletes will make it across?

0:14:19 > 0:14:22This really could be it.

0:14:22 > 0:14:24The nation's waiting.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27Come on. One of the three.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32Steve first.

0:14:32 > 0:14:34Oh, that's a no from Steve.

0:14:34 > 0:14:36And a no from Jodie.

0:14:36 > 0:14:40And a yes... yes... no from James.

0:14:40 > 0:14:42Brilliant effort, though.

0:14:53 > 0:14:55On to The Bubble Bath.

0:14:58 > 0:15:00And Steve finishes flawlessly in 1 minute 38.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04- Girl power!- Yes.

0:15:05 > 0:15:08Girl power meet Bubble Bath.

0:15:08 > 0:15:10And she lands perfectly.

0:15:10 > 0:15:15Hairy James now so close to Steve's time, but not quite close enough.

0:15:15 > 0:15:19At least he comes into contact with the first bit of soap in years.

0:15:19 > 0:15:21Did you get a lot of water in that big mouth of yours?

0:15:21 > 0:15:25I sound a bit of a mug, now, don't I? It's a lot harder than I thought.

0:15:25 > 0:15:28It certainly is, Steve, and I'd know because I've now watched

0:15:28 > 0:15:3377 competitors have a go at it this series and not one has finished dry.

0:15:33 > 0:15:37Anyway, three great runs there and we're almost halfway through the qualifier.

0:15:37 > 0:15:39Let's take a look at the leaderboard.

0:15:39 > 0:15:43Steve, James and Jodie have changed everything.

0:15:43 > 0:15:47Our new leader is Humble Steve with 1 minute 38, but he's only three

0:15:47 > 0:15:51seconds ahead of Hairy James, and Girl Power Jodie moves into fourth.

0:15:51 > 0:15:54There are some very quick times this week.

0:15:54 > 0:15:57Wing Commander Daniel will be keeping his fingers, toes

0:15:57 > 0:16:01and wings crossed that the next bunch can't fly as well as he did.

0:16:01 > 0:16:05It's time to meet four competitors who are going to show us how one of

0:16:05 > 0:16:08our new obstacles, The Rolling Logs, is done.

0:16:08 > 0:16:11This is Roy from Bristol.

0:16:11 > 0:16:17Only one member of his family knows he's taking part, although I'm sure he's told his dungeon master.

0:16:17 > 0:16:20Meet Scarlett Stratford-Wright from Essex.

0:16:20 > 0:16:22An Essex girl with a double-barrelled surname?

0:16:22 > 0:16:24That's practically royalty.

0:16:24 > 0:16:29And completing the line-up are 25 year-old Rachel and hairdresser Nicky.

0:16:35 > 0:16:36All right, me barrers?

0:16:36 > 0:16:39Let's get in there and break something, shall we? Ar!

0:16:39 > 0:16:43# Don't you know, I'm still standing better than I've ever been... #

0:16:43 > 0:16:47Nicky doesn't realise she's going absolutely nowhere.

0:16:47 > 0:16:49# Feeling like a little kid.

0:16:49 > 0:16:50Oh, can I do this?

0:16:50 > 0:16:54# I'm still standing after all this time

0:16:54 > 0:17:00# Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

0:17:00 > 0:17:04# I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah

0:17:06 > 0:17:09# I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah. #

0:17:09 > 0:17:11You can just see, in every one of their minds,

0:17:11 > 0:17:13how they saw it was going to go.

0:17:13 > 0:17:15And it didn't. There you go.

0:17:15 > 0:17:19Literally as easy as falling off a log, because it actually was.

0:17:19 > 0:17:21Twelve down, eight to go.

0:17:21 > 0:17:24Now, we've done everything we can to find these contestants.

0:17:24 > 0:17:27We've climbed mountains, swum rivers, we've fought tigers...

0:17:27 > 0:17:32and put adverts in local newspapers, to find people who best represent you, the great British public,

0:17:32 > 0:17:36and I have it on good authority that this next competitor does just that.

0:17:36 > 0:17:38This is Julia.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40She's from the Isle of Man.

0:17:40 > 0:17:44- So are you scared of Total Wipeout? - Um, no. Bring it on.

0:17:44 > 0:17:47I do hear you're very sporty, though, is that right?

0:17:47 > 0:17:50Yeah, I love dancing. I've got a hobby of hip-hop dancing.

0:17:54 > 0:17:56Amanda!

0:17:58 > 0:17:59Whilst Julie's...

0:17:59 > 0:18:02in the zone, let's meet 25-year-old Faisal from London.

0:18:04 > 0:18:07I'm the winner because I've got the money in the bag!

0:18:07 > 0:18:10Think of the ladies, Faisal.

0:18:10 > 0:18:14Think of them as the big red balls.

0:18:14 > 0:18:18Come on, Faisal. Yes! Oh. Ooh.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22# Let's get it on... #

0:18:22 > 0:18:25Ah, our very own Casanova there, treats the balls like he treats

0:18:25 > 0:18:29his ladies, casually going from one to the next and then getting dumped.

0:18:32 > 0:18:33Come on, Faisal!

0:18:33 > 0:18:36Come on! Hauling himself onto the finishing podium with

0:18:36 > 0:18:41- a very respectable time... 2 minutes 39.- Woo!

0:18:41 > 0:18:43The ladies'll love that, Faisal.

0:18:43 > 0:18:44Is that it?

0:18:46 > 0:18:47Back to Julia.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52You're now watching Strictly Come Dancing and it's hip-hop week.

0:18:52 > 0:18:55How long will she do this for? If we let her.

0:18:55 > 0:18:58Now, I know just the lady for Faisal.

0:18:58 > 0:19:02- It's customer-service manager Mandy from Sunderland, and she's hot for him...- Aah!

0:19:02 > 0:19:07You better watch out, because I'm on fire! Because I'm hot! Tsss!

0:19:07 > 0:19:08..or anyone.

0:19:09 > 0:19:11We catch up with Flaming Mandy at The Suckerpunch.

0:19:11 > 0:19:17She says that her years competing in triathlons should help her today.

0:19:17 > 0:19:18Maybe they will.

0:19:18 > 0:19:20Oh!

0:19:22 > 0:19:26It's a shame the traditional triathlon isn't swimming, cycling and being punched by a wall.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28Ta-da!

0:19:28 > 0:19:30You're not over it yet, Mandy.

0:19:30 > 0:19:34Flaming Mandy approaches The Big Balls. Come on!

0:19:34 > 0:19:36You're hot. Tackle them! Yes!

0:19:36 > 0:19:38No. That'll have quenched her fire.

0:19:41 > 0:19:46And it's a strong finish from Mandy, there, in 4 minutes and 13 seconds.

0:19:46 > 0:19:49But will that be enough to put her in that vital top 12?

0:19:49 > 0:19:52Mandy makes The Bubble Bath look easy, there, which is more than

0:19:52 > 0:19:55most of today's competitors have managed to do.

0:20:13 > 0:20:15I did say it wasn't easy.

0:20:19 > 0:20:24Anyway, further back down the course is 34 year-old football co-ordinator Stuart, from East Lothian.

0:20:24 > 0:20:26We're gonna engage!

0:20:26 > 0:20:29# He's got to be strong and he's got to be fast

0:20:29 > 0:20:32# And he's got to be fresh from the fight. #

0:20:33 > 0:20:35Yeah, you did engage, Footy Stu.

0:20:35 > 0:20:38You engaged with a lot of cold Argentinian water.

0:20:38 > 0:20:42Let's see if marketing manager Ali from Belfast can do any better.

0:20:42 > 0:20:45# And he's got to be larger than life. #

0:20:45 > 0:20:47No! She can't.

0:20:51 > 0:20:55Thing is, no matter how much it looks like it hurts, admit it...

0:20:55 > 0:20:58you want to have a go on The Big Balls. You just do.

0:20:59 > 0:21:05# Somewhere after midnight in my wildest fantasy... #

0:21:05 > 0:21:08This is 23-year-old Joe from Birmingham.

0:21:08 > 0:21:11He used to work in the circus.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16Which, as it turns out, is no help at all.

0:21:16 > 0:21:23So that completes The Qualifier and we've now seen all 20 of today's competitors. Wait, no we haven't!

0:21:23 > 0:21:26We've only seen 19. There should of course be 20.

0:21:26 > 0:21:27So who hasn't gone yet?

0:21:33 > 0:21:35Yes, it's Julia. Brilliant.

0:21:35 > 0:21:36Still going.

0:21:36 > 0:21:39My word, that is genius!

0:21:39 > 0:21:42If that doesn't get you through this course then nothing will!

0:21:43 > 0:21:45SIREN SOUNDS

0:21:47 > 0:21:51Well, let's just hope Julia hasn't used up all her energy

0:21:51 > 0:21:53on completely unnecessary street dancing.

0:21:53 > 0:21:56Oh, lord, she has.

0:21:56 > 0:21:57Come on, Julia, dig deep!

0:21:57 > 0:21:58Yes!

0:22:08 > 0:22:10Hip-hop fans will know this move.

0:22:10 > 0:22:13It's the West Coast stumble.

0:22:13 > 0:22:15Ah, almost.

0:22:20 > 0:22:21Oh.

0:22:21 > 0:22:23She's been punched in the face.

0:22:23 > 0:22:25Punch, two, three, four.

0:22:25 > 0:22:29Fall in the mud, two, three... She is good. She's got rhythm.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33Oh, this is cruel.

0:22:33 > 0:22:34Go, Julia, go!

0:22:34 > 0:22:35Oh.

0:22:41 > 0:22:46So another week goes by and no-one's traversed those Big Balls.

0:22:46 > 0:22:49And I had such high hopes for Julia.

0:22:53 > 0:22:54Well, high-ish.

0:22:54 > 0:22:56She really can't see where she's going.

0:22:56 > 0:22:58She's going straight past the ladder!

0:22:58 > 0:23:00Julia, it's over here!

0:23:07 > 0:23:08Oh.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12But not making The Bubble Bath, there.

0:23:12 > 0:23:14Heading for the podium instead.

0:23:14 > 0:23:16Just wait for the victory dance.

0:23:16 > 0:23:17This will be amazing. Here it comes.

0:23:17 > 0:23:20This is going to be brilliant.

0:23:20 > 0:23:21Here we go.

0:23:21 > 0:23:25What, is that it? Julia, we're over here. We're here.

0:23:25 > 0:23:30Oh. Let's see if Julia's made it into that all-important top 12.

0:23:30 > 0:23:34With The Qualifier all done and dusted, here's how the leaderboard looks.

0:23:34 > 0:23:36Taking pole position is Humble Steve,

0:23:36 > 0:23:39followed swiftly by Hairy James and Skippy John.

0:23:39 > 0:23:42Girl Power Jodie, Joe The Clown and Ladies' Man Faisal are in fourth,

0:23:42 > 0:23:46fifth, and sixth, followed by Cabby Deano, Scarlett and Julia.

0:23:46 > 0:23:49All that warming up obviously paid off.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52And finally, Footy Stu, Lucy and Flaming Mandy complete our line-up.

0:23:52 > 0:23:57So those lucky 12 enter the next round, The Sweeper.

0:23:57 > 0:24:01After which, six will be standing proud and six will be thrashing

0:24:01 > 0:24:05about in the water waiting for the Argentinian frogmen to rescue them.

0:24:11 > 0:24:15All our 12 remaining contestants have to do is

0:24:15 > 0:24:20stay on their 13ft-high podiums by hurdling The Sweeper on as it speeds towards them.

0:24:20 > 0:24:26The last six left standing will go through to the next round.

0:24:26 > 0:24:29But The Sweeper cannot be stopped that easily.

0:24:29 > 0:24:35Oh, no. It just keeps on going until, just for fun, we have our last man standing.

0:24:35 > 0:24:39Or woman. The Sweeper is an equal-opportunities obstacle.

0:24:39 > 0:24:41Right, then. Let's get back to the course.

0:24:41 > 0:24:47On the first and second podiums are Flaming Mandy and Joe The Clown.

0:24:47 > 0:24:50On podium three is Cabby Deano.

0:24:50 > 0:24:52These guys stand no chance!

0:24:52 > 0:24:56Mr Knobbly Knees, Clacton 1997.

0:24:56 > 0:25:00Arch rivals Humble Steve and Girl Power Jodie are on four and five.

0:25:00 > 0:25:03On podium six is Footy Stu.

0:25:03 > 0:25:06I'm a big striker. This is a big sweeper.

0:25:06 > 0:25:09- But I know who my money's on. - Oh, yeah, me too.

0:25:09 > 0:25:15Positions seven, eight and nine go to Ladies' Man Faisal, Hip-Hop Julia and Skippy John.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18On podium ten is Hairy James.

0:25:18 > 0:25:20This is for Queen and country.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23She'll be delighted. Followed by a confident Miss Scarlett.

0:25:23 > 0:25:27I didn't think I'd make it this far, so now bring on The Dizzy Dummies!

0:25:27 > 0:25:30And on the final podium is Fancy Dress Lucy.

0:25:30 > 0:25:33Today is not the day that I want to be swept off my feet!

0:25:33 > 0:25:35Good job you're not next to Faisal, then.

0:25:35 > 0:25:38So, the 12 of them are ready and I can't wait for this.

0:25:38 > 0:25:42Let's rejoin the woman I put on a pedestal, and then knock her down

0:25:42 > 0:25:44with a massive, sweeping mechanical arm.

0:25:44 > 0:25:46It is Amanda Byram.

0:25:46 > 0:25:49This is The Sweeper.

0:25:49 > 0:25:52- Are you all feeling steady?- Yeah!

0:25:52 > 0:25:58Well, then, ready, steady, three, two, one!

0:25:58 > 0:26:00SIREN SOUNDS

0:26:01 > 0:26:03And they're off.

0:26:03 > 0:26:06Mandy's first to jump. She's looking nervous.

0:26:06 > 0:26:07Oh!

0:26:07 > 0:26:10- She's the first one in the water, too.- She didn't last very long.

0:26:12 > 0:26:13Oh, my God, that's so fast!

0:26:13 > 0:26:19Faisal, Julia, John, James, was that... Oh, Lucy's gone.

0:26:19 > 0:26:21Maybe Mandy misunderstood the game.

0:26:21 > 0:26:24She jumps onto the bar.

0:26:24 > 0:26:26Flaming awful.

0:26:26 > 0:26:30I tried. I was on the podium and I just fell forward. Ohhh!

0:26:30 > 0:26:31I just wanted to plant one.

0:26:31 > 0:26:36I think if I'd have planted the first one I would have been OK, but ohhh!

0:26:36 > 0:26:40Fancy Dress Lucy opts for the classic face-plant and she's out, too.

0:26:40 > 0:26:43Disappointed. Really disappointed but it was great fun.

0:26:43 > 0:26:45Scary. Really scary!

0:26:47 > 0:26:52Julia squeezes in one final hip-hop move, the West Side Windmill.

0:26:52 > 0:26:54I held it for a few seconds and then fell over.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57Quite gutted that I didn't make the first one.

0:26:57 > 0:27:02It would have been nice just to at least make the first jump, but unfortunately it wasn't my day.

0:27:02 > 0:27:06So back to the action with nine still standing.

0:27:13 > 0:27:20Joe, Deano, Steve, Jodie, Stuart, Faisal, John, James and Scarlett.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28Oh, and the Humble Steve very nearly goes for a dip

0:27:28 > 0:27:32but to his credit, he climbs back to his feet for another go.

0:27:32 > 0:27:35Miss Scarlett's really struggling now

0:27:35 > 0:27:36and it's only going to get worse.

0:27:36 > 0:27:39That bar gets faster and higher with every turn.

0:27:39 > 0:27:43Remember, nine are still in but only six can go through to the

0:27:43 > 0:27:48next round, and we're still looking for our last man standing.

0:27:48 > 0:27:49Come on!

0:27:52 > 0:27:56Come on, you guys! You've been so good.

0:27:56 > 0:27:58Miss Scarlett's down and out.

0:27:58 > 0:28:03She gets one leg over but sort of forgets she's got another one.

0:28:06 > 0:28:09As it was going round, by the end of it I was panicking

0:28:09 > 0:28:13because it was getting higher and higher, and then I think that was...

0:28:13 > 0:28:16the panic made me jump a little too late and that's why I got clipped.

0:28:16 > 0:28:18In short, you fell off.

0:28:18 > 0:28:22Four gone, two to go until we have our lucky six.

0:28:22 > 0:28:24Who will be next to get wet?

0:28:28 > 0:28:32Oh, an amazing flip from Cabby Deano.

0:28:32 > 0:28:37Even Amanda's lost for words. Probably good news for Deano, I suppose. Some comfort.

0:28:39 > 0:28:42What a wicked wipeout. That's what I come to do.

0:28:42 > 0:28:45That was like a double toe-loop or something.

0:28:45 > 0:28:47That was brilliant. So I thoroughly enjoyed it.

0:28:47 > 0:28:50Well, he might be out but at least he's happy.

0:28:50 > 0:28:51So there are seven left...

0:28:51 > 0:28:58Circus Joe, Humble Steve, Jodie, Faisal, Footy Stu, Skippy and Hairy James.

0:28:58 > 0:29:04- Only one more to go. - We'll soon have our six qualifiers, but who will they be?

0:29:04 > 0:29:06Next guy down...

0:29:11 > 0:29:16Ooh, Circus Joe's lost his balance, and Girl Power Jodie's gone.

0:29:16 > 0:29:18But who hit the water first? This is really close.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21One of them is out of the competition.

0:29:21 > 0:29:22I didn't see anything.

0:29:22 > 0:29:25I just fell and I hit the water. I thought I was out straightaway.

0:29:25 > 0:29:28Ladies' man Faisal went too, but he's safe.

0:29:28 > 0:29:33It's between Circus Joe and Girl Power Jodie for that all-important sixth place.

0:29:33 > 0:29:37And Footy Stu realises he's safely inside the top six

0:29:37 > 0:29:38and calls it a day.

0:29:38 > 0:29:43Just three left, now, so who'll have the honour of being the last man standing?

0:29:43 > 0:29:48Humble Steve, Skippy John or Hairy James?

0:29:50 > 0:29:51It's all about pride!

0:29:51 > 0:29:56They're playing purely for pride now and you know what that comes before.

0:29:57 > 0:30:01Steve's high, dry and gobby.

0:30:03 > 0:30:05John's gone, and James goes with him.

0:30:05 > 0:30:09Have you ever seen anybody wipe out like that before?

0:30:11 > 0:30:12Spectacular.

0:30:12 > 0:30:14- Oh! - Amanda certainly hasn't.

0:30:16 > 0:30:19Number one, baby. Drop the bomb.

0:30:19 > 0:30:23Yes, Steve... as humble as ever, and today's last man standing.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26But who's following him into the next round?

0:30:26 > 0:30:30Back to Amanda to resolve that sticky little Jodie-Joe issue.

0:30:32 > 0:30:35So I think you can all do the mathematics here today.

0:30:35 > 0:30:37There are seven of you standing with me and, of course,

0:30:37 > 0:30:40only six of you can go through to Dizzy Dummies.

0:30:40 > 0:30:42And that's because, Joe and Jodie, both of you came off

0:30:42 > 0:30:44within nanoseconds of each other.

0:30:44 > 0:30:48One of you is not going to be going through.

0:30:48 > 0:30:50Well, done to you both, because it was so close.

0:30:50 > 0:30:56But I can tell you right now that, Jodie, you are going through,

0:30:56 > 0:30:59and Joe, you're not.

0:30:59 > 0:31:01Sorry, man.

0:31:01 > 0:31:02Don't worry about it.

0:31:05 > 0:31:07Do you think she was pleased?

0:31:07 > 0:31:09Difficult to say. I think she was pleased.

0:31:09 > 0:31:13Anyway, well done, Jodie. So we started today with 20 contestants.

0:31:13 > 0:31:18Now we have six. They have all qualified for the next round, and what a mixed bag they are.

0:31:18 > 0:31:23First up, it's Humble Steve, last man standing in The Sweeper.

0:31:23 > 0:31:28- If I don't win this, I don't know what's gone wrong. - This is for you, Britain.

0:31:28 > 0:31:34Next is his closest rival, Hairy James. Not bad for a hippy.

0:31:34 > 0:31:38Skippy John...well, SKIPS his way into the next round.

0:31:38 > 0:31:41We're going to engage!

0:31:41 > 0:31:43And Footy Stu makes it four.

0:31:43 > 0:31:45But I know who my money's on.

0:31:47 > 0:31:50Ladies' Man Faisal just keeps on impressing.

0:31:50 > 0:31:53I'm the winner because I've got the money in the bag!

0:31:53 > 0:31:58And finally, like a rose between five thorns, it's the only lady left, Girl Power Jodie.

0:31:58 > 0:32:00Girl power!

0:32:00 > 0:32:04Only one of them will be crowned Total Wipeout champion,

0:32:04 > 0:32:07and they'll have an awful lot to declare when

0:32:07 > 0:32:10they go back through British customs. £10,000, to be precise.

0:32:10 > 0:32:16Now, as you know, the way we turn six into three is by making them sick.

0:32:16 > 0:32:17It is Dizzy Dummies.

0:32:17 > 0:32:20Might not be subtle but it's really effective.

0:32:20 > 0:32:22And really funny.

0:32:22 > 0:32:23For us.

0:32:28 > 0:32:30Here's how this round works.

0:32:30 > 0:32:34The Dizzy Dummy spins our competitors round and round

0:32:34 > 0:32:39and round, until they don't know where they are, or what day it is.

0:32:39 > 0:32:43Then, dazed, they must make their way across a variety of fiendish obstacles.

0:32:43 > 0:32:47The last one to make it across is eliminated.

0:32:47 > 0:32:50The prize for the remaining five, more nausea,

0:32:50 > 0:32:54because they must get back in The Dizzy Dummy and do it all again.

0:32:54 > 0:32:57And we'll keep going until we have our final three.

0:32:57 > 0:33:00The one golden rule - just don't come last.

0:33:00 > 0:33:02Are you guys ready?

0:33:02 > 0:33:05- Yeah.- Yeah? That sounds like a no. All right.

0:33:05 > 0:33:07Three, two, one.

0:33:07 > 0:33:09SIREN SOUNDS

0:33:09 > 0:33:10The spinning begins.

0:33:10 > 0:33:14I hope they've remembered to put their travel-sickness wristbands on,

0:33:14 > 0:33:17or at least digested the reheated tacos they had for lunch.

0:33:23 > 0:33:25They're off. Let the confusion begin.

0:33:28 > 0:33:32Hairy James is off to a flying start but look at Girl Power Jodie.

0:33:32 > 0:33:34She's sped past him.

0:33:36 > 0:33:38That is a blisteringly fast finish!

0:33:38 > 0:33:41It's amazing. It's as if Jodie forgot to get dizzy.

0:33:41 > 0:33:45The only girl left in the competition is safely across.

0:33:45 > 0:33:50Hairy James is on to the second Tippy Table and looking strong, although John is close behind.

0:33:50 > 0:33:51Ooh, John!

0:33:51 > 0:33:54But Hairy James is over.

0:33:54 > 0:33:55Golden oldie.

0:33:55 > 0:34:01And so is Skippy John, with Humble Steve powering through next.

0:34:01 > 0:34:07But what's this? A late spurt from Stuart, and he bounds past Faisal to snatch the final qualifying place.

0:34:07 > 0:34:10Unbelievable scenes here at Total Wipeout.

0:34:10 > 0:34:12Unbelievable!

0:34:12 > 0:34:15- I'm out?- Yep, you are, Faisal.

0:34:15 > 0:34:18Footy Stu made that look easy.

0:34:18 > 0:34:21I admire how he left it late, to add a little drama.

0:34:22 > 0:34:25Hang on a second. I blinked and I just missed what happened.

0:34:25 > 0:34:27You just got steamrolled by Stuart.

0:34:27 > 0:34:30Do you know what? I didn't even see it coming! I didn't.

0:34:30 > 0:34:32I thought there was still someone behind me.

0:34:32 > 0:34:35Oh, well there was...it was Stuart, but not for long.

0:34:35 > 0:34:37Top man. Top man. Well done.

0:34:38 > 0:34:41Back in the Dizzy Dummy go the contestants.

0:34:41 > 0:34:46All that stands between them and the finish line now are the Crazy Beams.

0:34:46 > 0:34:49Yep, Amanda, that's how it makes you feel.

0:34:49 > 0:34:52First four across are safe. The fifth will be eliminated.

0:34:52 > 0:34:55They are all fighting for a place in tonight's final.

0:34:55 > 0:34:57Here we go for a second time, then.

0:35:11 > 0:35:14Oh, Steve's fallen in after just one jump.

0:35:14 > 0:35:16Once again, Jodie's leading the pack.

0:35:16 > 0:35:20But all she needs to do is not come last.

0:35:25 > 0:35:27Oh, no. There's a frog in the pond.

0:35:27 > 0:35:29Jodie's fallen, which means

0:35:29 > 0:35:32she must swim right back to the start and do it all again.

0:35:33 > 0:35:37The boys now are doing their best slug impressions.

0:35:37 > 0:35:39That's very cautious.

0:35:39 > 0:35:41Apart from John.

0:35:41 > 0:35:43He's doing it lemming-style.

0:35:45 > 0:35:49Stuart being energy-efficient, perhaps.

0:35:49 > 0:35:53What's James doing? Some feng shui on those Crazy Beams, maybe.

0:35:53 > 0:35:56Steve's going in the wrong direction.

0:35:56 > 0:35:57Steve, this way!

0:35:59 > 0:36:03Come on, Hairy James. Don't fall off at the last minute now.

0:36:03 > 0:36:05Inches from the finish.

0:36:05 > 0:36:06Yes, he is safely across.

0:36:06 > 0:36:09Hairy James is the first person to qualify

0:36:09 > 0:36:12for the final round of Dizzy Dummies.

0:36:12 > 0:36:15And, like True Brits, Stuart and Steve

0:36:15 > 0:36:18are queuing up for that finishing podium.

0:36:18 > 0:36:21Go on, Stuart! Go on. You're almost there, mate.

0:36:21 > 0:36:22Jodie's in again.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25Footy Stu's across and so is Humble Steve.

0:36:25 > 0:36:31And Skippy John grits his teeth and goes for the finish.

0:36:31 > 0:36:34Now, the old man's done it.

0:36:34 > 0:36:37Don't do that, though.

0:36:37 > 0:36:40So it's all over for Jodie.

0:36:43 > 0:36:46She came very close to being first across again,

0:36:46 > 0:36:49but it just wasn't to be for Girl Power Jodie.

0:36:51 > 0:36:54Jodie, you were so close.

0:36:54 > 0:36:56You literally missed that by a foot,

0:36:56 > 0:36:58and I'm not talking a foot in measurement.

0:36:58 > 0:37:00I'm talking your actual foot.

0:37:00 > 0:37:04- You were hanging on for dear life! - Yeah, that was awesome.

0:37:04 > 0:37:06I just... I slipped off.

0:37:06 > 0:37:10And I could see John slip off the second time but I chose

0:37:10 > 0:37:16the wrong route, because the gap was like the size of...a big...gap.

0:37:16 > 0:37:19I know those gaps, yes. They're pretty big.

0:37:19 > 0:37:21So it's goodbye to the last girl,

0:37:21 > 0:37:26which leaves us with three boys and a real man, skipping teacher John.

0:37:26 > 0:37:29Back in the Dizzy Dummy one last time for those four.

0:37:29 > 0:37:32At stake now is a place in the Wipeout Zone.

0:37:32 > 0:37:35So one more spin.

0:37:35 > 0:37:38In Britain this might be classed as torture.

0:37:38 > 0:37:40Fortunately, Argentinian laws are a bit more lax.

0:37:40 > 0:37:44I'm in trouble with the law, now, I suspect.

0:37:44 > 0:37:47Remember, only the first three across

0:37:47 > 0:37:51will make it to the Wipeout Zone and have a shot at the £10,000.

0:37:54 > 0:37:56James is charging ahead.

0:37:59 > 0:38:01Onto the Tippy Tables.

0:38:01 > 0:38:05Oh, he's tipped Steve into the water, he'll have to start again.

0:38:05 > 0:38:08Stuart's still spinning.

0:38:08 > 0:38:11John's gone in.

0:38:11 > 0:38:14James is the first one across

0:38:14 > 0:38:17and the first one to qualify for today's final.

0:38:17 > 0:38:20Footy Stu is developing his strategy.

0:38:20 > 0:38:22Come on, Stu!

0:38:24 > 0:38:26- Don't give up now!- Clever.

0:38:26 > 0:38:28He's letting Steve go first.

0:38:28 > 0:38:31What confidence. What self-belief.

0:38:31 > 0:38:36What a mistake! Humble Steve home and dry and second to qualify.

0:38:36 > 0:38:38He is pleased with himself.

0:38:38 > 0:38:40What a surprise.

0:38:40 > 0:38:43John there looks like he's in some pain.

0:38:43 > 0:38:47It's between him and Stuart for that final place.

0:38:51 > 0:38:54He's on to the second Tippy Table.

0:38:54 > 0:38:58If Stuart's waiting to make his move, he should probably pounce now.

0:38:58 > 0:39:01What are you doing, Stuart? Come on!

0:39:03 > 0:39:04- Yeah!- Too late.

0:39:04 > 0:39:09John's across and is going into the Wipeout Zone with James and Steve.

0:39:09 > 0:39:12It's all over for Stuart.

0:39:12 > 0:39:15Hey, just relax there, Stuart.

0:39:15 > 0:39:19But of course nothing is ever quite as simple as that.

0:39:19 > 0:39:21Well, not out there it isn't, anyway.

0:39:21 > 0:39:25John had hurt his arm earlier in the day and was pronounced unfit

0:39:25 > 0:39:28by the doctor, and so had to withdraw from the final.

0:39:28 > 0:39:31Stuart jumped at the chance to take his place,

0:39:31 > 0:39:35so the plucky Scot completes our line-up in place of John.

0:39:35 > 0:39:38So Stuart, Steve and James are our final,

0:39:38 > 0:39:41final three, and what an emotional journey it's been for them.

0:39:41 > 0:39:43And for me, if I'm being honest.

0:39:48 > 0:39:52I'm a bit apprehensive about facing the Wipeout Zone because I know,

0:39:52 > 0:39:55when night falls, it's going to get pretty scary.

0:39:56 > 0:39:59When you've got this kind of looming on top of you,

0:39:59 > 0:40:03the pressure kind of starts to pile on.

0:40:04 > 0:40:08I think I can 100% get around it. It's just how many times I fall off,

0:40:08 > 0:40:13and how many times James doesn't fall off is what I'm worried about.

0:40:13 > 0:40:16Steve and I have been rivals throughout the whole competition.

0:40:16 > 0:40:18I always wanted to get one better than him.

0:40:20 > 0:40:22Steve reckons he's going to win the money.

0:40:22 > 0:40:24He probably won't say that outright.

0:40:24 > 0:40:27I'm 100% confident in winning this.

0:40:27 > 0:40:31Planned it all out in my head, and I'm sure it will go exactly to plan.

0:40:33 > 0:40:37Everybody does love an underdog, so if I was to beat these two fit guys,

0:40:37 > 0:40:40then I think I might get a bit of a cheer.

0:40:43 > 0:40:45Absolutely brilliant, being here.

0:40:45 > 0:40:48It's every boy's dream, this obstacle course.

0:40:48 > 0:40:51Always enter stuff, always game for stuff,

0:40:51 > 0:40:54but rarely win though, so to be here within

0:40:54 > 0:40:58touching-distance of ten grand is a huge achievement for me already.

0:40:58 > 0:41:01It'd mean everything for me to win.

0:41:01 > 0:41:05I'll have to make sure I win, there's no point going home unless I've won.

0:41:05 > 0:41:08I'm incredibly proud that I've managed to get this far.

0:41:08 > 0:41:10I've really accomplished something for myself.

0:41:10 > 0:41:13But to win, that would be the ultimate goal in this.

0:41:13 > 0:41:17I'd be over the moon if I got that far.

0:41:17 > 0:41:21Our final three contestants have done brilliantly.

0:41:21 > 0:41:25It's taken blood, sweat and tears, mostly from Amanda, to get them to

0:41:25 > 0:41:29where they are now, but it's time to face the biggest test of all...

0:41:29 > 0:41:31the Wipeout Zone.

0:41:36 > 0:41:41This is what our finalists, Stuart, Steve and James, are up against.

0:41:41 > 0:41:46They begin with a high-speed slide down Killer Surf.

0:41:46 > 0:41:48Then they paddle to the Barrel-Run.

0:41:48 > 0:41:53It's a bit like hurdles, but they're moving and they're barrels.

0:41:53 > 0:41:56Next, it's a slippery climb underneath a waterfall,

0:41:56 > 0:41:58before leaping onto the fast-revolving Spinner.

0:41:58 > 0:42:03Next, the Rolling Beam, and finally the Launch Pads.

0:42:03 > 0:42:07The fastest competitor will win £10,000 and after going through all

0:42:07 > 0:42:09of this, they might need to spend it on therapy.

0:42:09 > 0:42:11And a massage. Back to Amanda.

0:42:11 > 0:42:15And now three become one.

0:42:15 > 0:42:18That's right, it's the Wipeout Zone.

0:42:18 > 0:42:22And the first contestant to brave it tonight is Stuart.

0:42:27 > 0:42:31There's no doubting Stuart is the underdog in the Wipeout Zone.

0:42:31 > 0:42:35Don't forget, he's been eliminated and then reinstated.

0:42:35 > 0:42:38Is an amazing comeback on the cards?

0:42:41 > 0:42:42He's off.

0:42:45 > 0:42:48The clock started ticking the moment Stuart began his descent,

0:42:48 > 0:42:51so he needs to get out of that water and on to the Barrel-Run

0:42:51 > 0:42:53as quickly as he can.

0:43:02 > 0:43:03He's taking it slowly.

0:43:08 > 0:43:11OK, now he reaches the barrels. And Stuart's on the back foot already.

0:43:11 > 0:43:15That ramp is covered in grease.

0:43:15 > 0:43:18Hurdling the barrels is the fastest approach.

0:43:18 > 0:43:22Stuart's opted for belly-flopping over them.

0:43:23 > 0:43:25He's looking exhausted already

0:43:25 > 0:43:28and he's not even halfway through the first obstacle yet.

0:43:30 > 0:43:35Come on, Stuart. Hurry up. We only have a finite number of barrels!

0:43:37 > 0:43:41Surely this is overly cautious from Stuart?

0:43:41 > 0:43:45He's taken to crawling like a baby now.

0:43:45 > 0:43:48Look where you're going, Stuart! Ouch.

0:43:51 > 0:43:53Now on to the Climbing Wall.

0:43:53 > 0:43:55He's being very careful here, too.

0:43:55 > 0:44:00Come on, Stuart. You need to chalk up a competitive time.

0:44:01 > 0:44:06The weight of that water against him constantly... Oh, no, he's off!

0:44:07 > 0:44:11It looked like he didn't have enough energy to hold on.

0:44:12 > 0:44:15Had enough energy to hold his nose, though.

0:44:16 > 0:44:18Stuart must now get himself back up that ladder

0:44:18 > 0:44:20and back onto the Climbing Wall,

0:44:20 > 0:44:24to finish that obstacle and make his way to the Spinner.

0:44:24 > 0:44:27As well as gravity and exhaustion, Stuart has to battle

0:44:27 > 0:44:312,000 litres of water a minute pouring onto his head.

0:44:35 > 0:44:36He's fallen in again!

0:44:36 > 0:44:39That is a massive setback for Stuart,

0:44:39 > 0:44:41setting the benchmark time today.

0:44:41 > 0:44:43That's going to be hurting now.

0:44:47 > 0:44:48This isn't another replay.

0:44:48 > 0:44:51It's Stuart's third attempt at the Wall.

0:44:51 > 0:44:54You can see the pain written on his face.

0:44:54 > 0:44:56If Steve and James could see this,

0:44:56 > 0:44:58they would be smiling, but they're not.

0:44:58 > 0:45:01This is the point where he struggled before.

0:45:01 > 0:45:04Come on, Stuart.

0:45:04 > 0:45:07No. He's admitting defeat.

0:45:07 > 0:45:11Stuart has battled hard but those torrents of water

0:45:11 > 0:45:14got the better of him. He's out of the running.

0:45:14 > 0:45:16Oh, Stuart!

0:45:18 > 0:45:21Stuart's belly-flop technique made a meal of those barrels.

0:45:25 > 0:45:28His efforts were valid but ultimately that waterfall

0:45:28 > 0:45:30got the better of our underdog.

0:45:33 > 0:45:36Stuart, my man! Come on in.

0:45:36 > 0:45:38I mean, you threw in the towel.

0:45:38 > 0:45:40You literally couldn't get a grip.

0:45:40 > 0:45:44So greasy after coming up the ramp, I just couldn't get a grip of anything.

0:45:44 > 0:45:47It's been a long day and I'm absolutely spent.

0:45:47 > 0:45:50It is now down to our remaining two finalists,

0:45:50 > 0:45:53Humble Steve and Hairy James. Steve's next.

0:45:53 > 0:45:56Can he complete the course or will he end up doing a Stuart,

0:45:56 > 0:45:59as I'm now going to call it? It's over to Steve.

0:46:01 > 0:46:03None of our finalists get to watch

0:46:03 > 0:46:09each other on the course, so Steve has no idea Stuart didn't finish.

0:46:09 > 0:46:12Our self-proclaimed favourite has to set the fastest time he can.

0:46:19 > 0:46:22He's already looking quicker than Stuart here,

0:46:22 > 0:46:25but there's a whole lot of course yet to come.

0:46:28 > 0:46:31Will the Barrel-Run humble Humble Steve?

0:46:36 > 0:46:38It is slippy up there today,

0:46:38 > 0:46:41and those barrels are proving a nightmare.

0:46:46 > 0:46:50Steve's having trouble getting over them when they're not moving.

0:46:56 > 0:46:58He's up and running now.

0:46:58 > 0:47:00Much better.

0:47:00 > 0:47:03But looking tired as he approaches the Wall.

0:47:03 > 0:47:07The Wipeout Zone is incredibly demanding.

0:47:09 > 0:47:11He's onto the Wall now.

0:47:11 > 0:47:13Let's hope Steve can keep his mouth shut,

0:47:13 > 0:47:16as there's about to be a lot of water pounding down on him.

0:47:21 > 0:47:24Keeping his centre of gravity low, making great progress,

0:47:24 > 0:47:26but will he do a Stuart at this point?

0:47:30 > 0:47:34He's across. Now he's got to transfer to the Spinner.

0:47:34 > 0:47:39He's on. He's safe. A lot of competitors have fallen here.

0:47:39 > 0:47:43Now he must make the transfer to the next obstacle for the Rolling Beam.

0:47:43 > 0:47:45Round and round Steve spins.

0:47:45 > 0:47:47Yeah, say what you see, Amanda.

0:47:47 > 0:47:51He's done it. He's made it first time. That is not easy.

0:47:51 > 0:47:53He made it look simple. The Rolling Beam now.

0:47:53 > 0:47:56This is free-rolling. He needs balance but speed.

0:47:56 > 0:47:58Ooh, stayed on!

0:47:58 > 0:48:02Two Launch Pads to go and he's finished.

0:48:05 > 0:48:08Just one more jump after this Launch Pad.

0:48:10 > 0:48:14And he's done it! Great job from Steve. Two minutes ten seconds.

0:48:14 > 0:48:17That is one of the fastest times we've seen all series.

0:48:19 > 0:48:22Well, his Barrel-Run wobble aside,

0:48:22 > 0:48:26Steve gave a masterclass in how to tackle the Wipeout Zone.

0:48:26 > 0:48:29Got some humble words for us, then, Steve?

0:48:29 > 0:48:33You have been consistently confident and slightly cocky

0:48:33 > 0:48:38all the way through the Wipeout course. So you think you did well?

0:48:38 > 0:48:40Yeah. It was slowing me up a bit

0:48:40 > 0:48:43on the barrels but then it was easy.

0:48:43 > 0:48:46Clean sailing from then on. Pretty happy.

0:48:46 > 0:48:49So, Humble Steve comes home with a very quick time indeed

0:48:49 > 0:48:51but now it's James's turn.

0:48:51 > 0:48:55And remember, he was only three seconds behind Steve

0:48:55 > 0:48:57in the qualifier so it really is all to play for.

0:49:06 > 0:49:07And off he goes.

0:49:12 > 0:49:17So only James stands in between Steve and the £10,000 cash prize.

0:49:17 > 0:49:21Can he reverse the result from the qualifier when it really matters?

0:49:21 > 0:49:24This is quick start from Hairy James.

0:49:28 > 0:49:31Straightaway, he seems more comfortable on

0:49:31 > 0:49:33the Barrel-Run than Steve.

0:49:33 > 0:49:35Some quality hurdling and no slip-ups

0:49:35 > 0:49:37from our fire-eating student.

0:49:39 > 0:49:42James can't afford any slip-ups if he's going to make

0:49:42 > 0:49:44Humble Steve eat humble pie.

0:49:44 > 0:49:46On to the Wall, now.

0:49:52 > 0:49:55Of course, Hairy James's curly locks may be a hindrance here.

0:49:55 > 0:49:58How much water will they be soaking up

0:49:58 > 0:50:00when he gets under that waterfall?

0:50:00 > 0:50:032000 litres a minute soaking into his hair,

0:50:03 > 0:50:04getting heavier and heavier.

0:50:06 > 0:50:10James doesn't know that Steve has set an incredibly fast time

0:50:10 > 0:50:13before him, or that Stuart didn't even make it past this point.

0:50:13 > 0:50:15The clock is ticking.

0:50:15 > 0:50:19Cautious approach. Just trying to keep his grip and stay on that Wall.

0:50:19 > 0:50:23Steve took one attempt and one and half revolutions

0:50:23 > 0:50:26to get off the Spinner. Can James match that?

0:50:26 > 0:50:29He's got to get on it first.

0:50:29 > 0:50:32He's on. Good landing.

0:50:35 > 0:50:37He's across straightaway.

0:50:37 > 0:50:39He's ahead of Steve now.

0:50:39 > 0:50:41On to the Rolling Beam.

0:50:42 > 0:50:45Absolutely flawless.

0:50:45 > 0:50:46And he's down!

0:50:46 > 0:50:49He's down between the two Launch Pads.

0:50:49 > 0:50:52He's got to get out of that water quickly now.

0:50:52 > 0:50:53That might cost him the win.

0:50:53 > 0:50:57He was certainly on course for it until that point.

0:51:00 > 0:51:02This is going to be tight now.

0:51:04 > 0:51:06Come on, James.

0:51:06 > 0:51:09Steadying himself.

0:51:09 > 0:51:10One jump to go.

0:51:13 > 0:51:15He's finished!

0:51:15 > 0:51:19But it's not quick enough to beat Steve. 2 minutes 16.

0:51:19 > 0:51:21That fall has cost him.

0:51:21 > 0:51:22£10,000, to be exact.

0:51:22 > 0:51:24It actually looked like Steve

0:51:24 > 0:51:28was going to have to eat his words right up until the Launch Pads

0:51:28 > 0:51:31but neither Steve nor James know who's won,

0:51:31 > 0:51:34so it's over to Amanda to break the news.

0:51:34 > 0:51:38My heart is beating so fast, I cannot even tell you.

0:51:38 > 0:51:40How are you feeling?

0:51:40 > 0:51:42So tired.

0:51:42 > 0:51:44But... I'm very worried now.

0:51:44 > 0:51:49Well, I can now tell you that this was so close.

0:51:49 > 0:51:52There were six seconds in it.

0:51:52 > 0:51:56James, I know you've said that you love the feeling of beating people.

0:51:56 > 0:51:58It's not one of those days.

0:51:58 > 0:52:00I'm sorry to tell you, Steve,

0:52:00 > 0:52:03- you are in fact the Total Wipeout champion...- Yes!- ..and the winner

0:52:03 > 0:52:06of £10,000.

0:52:06 > 0:52:08Congratulations, darling.

0:52:08 > 0:52:12So, 20 people came from the UK to tackle the great Argentinian

0:52:12 > 0:52:14obstacle course and ultimately,

0:52:14 > 0:52:18we found a warrior strong enough to take on the challenge.

0:52:18 > 0:52:20And that warrior's name was...

0:52:20 > 0:52:22Steve.

0:52:22 > 0:52:26So, statistically, 50% of our winners so far

0:52:26 > 0:52:27have been called Steve.

0:52:27 > 0:52:30That is a fact, and I will keep you updated with any

0:52:30 > 0:52:34further developments as the series progresses vis a vis...Steves.

0:52:34 > 0:52:36But that's it for this week.

0:52:36 > 0:52:39Join us next week when we'll be watching more people

0:52:39 > 0:52:41fall off things. A bit like this.

0:52:44 > 0:52:46Or do amazing things.

0:52:46 > 0:52:48A bit like this.

0:52:53 > 0:52:56Will someone finally manage those Big Balls?

0:52:56 > 0:52:59I for one can't wait to find out.

0:52:59 > 0:53:00From Amanda and me, it's goodbye.

0:53:00 > 0:53:02See you next time on Total Wipeout.
