0:00:14 > 0:00:16You need a working prototype by tomorrow
0:00:16 > 0:00:19morning.
0:00:19 > 0:00:24In education.

0:00:26 > 0:00:35On public transport.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38There's only, I don't know, 50 more to do or something.
0:00:38 > 0:00:41And on the sports field.
0:00:41 > 0:00:43Using BBC outlets, the teams can appeal for help from
0:00:43 > 0:00:45around the world.
0:00:45 > 0:00:48They have just one week to find a modern solution to a
0:00:48 > 0:00:53long-standing issue.
0:00:53 > 0:01:03Welcome to the BBC's 100 Women challenge.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09Rio de Janeiro is a city famed for its
0:01:09 > 0:01:12passion for sport.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14It was home to the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic
0:01:14 > 0:01:19games.
0:01:19 > 0:01:21And hosted the most recent football World Cup in 2014.
0:01:21 > 0:01:23The beautiful game is adored by millions
0:01:23 > 0:01:27here but has an ugly past.
0:01:27 > 0:01:28For almost 40 years, women were banned
0:01:29 > 0:01:33from playing football in Brazil.
0:01:33 > 0:01:35Though the ban is now listed, its legacy lives on.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37It's a real struggle for Brazilian women to be
0:01:37 > 0:01:38taken seriously in football.
0:01:38 > 0:01:40The 100 women challenge has come to reopen
0:01:40 > 0:01:50to try to tackle sexism in sport.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53And find solutions to level the playing field, inspiring women
0:01:53 > 0:01:59here in Brazil and around the world.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02Taking up the challenge are five women who have just five days to
0:02:02 > 0:02:04come up with ideas to help improve the situation for female
0:02:04 > 0:02:05footballers.
0:02:05 > 0:02:15Time for some introductions.
0:02:16 > 0:02:18Bia Vaz from Sao Paulo has played for the
0:02:18 > 0:02:20Brazilian National women's squad and professionally
0:02:20 > 0:02:22in the United States.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44Fernanda is a rower and competed in her home city of Rio
0:02:44 > 0:02:45in the Olympic Games
0:02:45 > 0:02:54last year.
0:02:54 > 0:02:57This woman grew up in one of Rio's favelas, dreaming of playing
0:02:57 > 0:02:58football.
0:02:58 > 0:03:00Now she's a coach for other children growing up in
0:03:00 > 0:03:03poverty.
0:03:11 > 0:03:14Maira from Sao Paulo is director of the women in sports
0:03:14 > 0:03:17programme for the campaign group Think Olga.
0:03:38 > 0:03:42And finally, two time Olympic Beach Volleyball
0:03:42 > 0:03:45silver medallist Adriana from Rio is now on the Brazilian Olympic
0:03:45 > 0:03:48Committee, part of her role is to keep women in sport.
0:04:01 > 0:04:02Our experts must reveal their solutions to
0:04:02 > 0:04:06sexism in sport at a mixed gender football match at the end of the
0:04:06 > 0:04:09week.
0:04:09 > 0:04:12It'll be a seven aside game and at least three of the players on
0:04:12 > 0:04:18each side must be female.
0:04:18 > 0:04:20The squad playing on behalf of the 100 Women
0:04:20 > 0:04:23is made up of talented young Brazilian footballers who are
0:04:23 > 0:04:28meeting for the first time today.
0:04:28 > 0:04:31It's also hoped these young players can offer some inspiration to our
0:04:31 > 0:04:35challenge team.
0:04:35 > 0:04:38Even at just 12 and 13 years of age, Ana and Luiza have already
0:04:38 > 0:04:45encountered a lot of resistance to their love of the game.
0:05:28 > 0:05:30With Ana and Luiza as their inspiration, the
0:05:30 > 0:05:32women start making plans for the week ahead.
0:05:32 > 0:05:34Leading up to the game on Saturday.
0:06:06 > 0:06:09Maira and Bia also take some time to reflect on the first day.
0:06:21 > 0:06:25The team is made up of high achievers, but none of them has ever
0:06:25 > 0:06:29taken on a challenge of this scale in just a week.
0:06:29 > 0:06:36It's going to be an interesting few days.
0:06:54 > 0:06:56We've had a really early start and just drove an
0:06:56 > 0:07:00hour and a half to reach the school in the West zone of Rio, we're going
0:07:00 > 0:07:03to see a very unique experience promoting gender equality in sport.
0:07:03 > 0:07:07Korfball.
0:07:07 > 0:07:09Korfball was invented just over 100 years ago in the
0:07:09 > 0:07:11Netherlands so that men and women could play
0:07:11 > 0:07:12alongside each other on
0:07:12 > 0:07:18the same team.
0:07:18 > 0:07:21School PE teacher Shayla is a big fan of the sport
0:07:21 > 0:07:23because the sexes can compete on equal terms.
0:08:15 > 0:08:17Although watching the Korfball is useful, neither of these
0:08:17 > 0:08:19women are spectators in life, and they are
0:08:19 > 0:08:20itching to get stuck in.
0:09:11 > 0:09:14School is over for Bia and Maira, they are now off to university
0:09:14 > 0:09:16collecting Ana and Louisa along the way.
0:09:16 > 0:09:18Arriving at Rio's Pontifico Catholic University, Luiza and Ana
0:09:18 > 0:09:28head off for training, with the university's women's team.
0:10:04 > 0:10:07Helena has agreed to become the team super coach, we'll update on the
0:10:07 > 0:10:11challenge and solutions they are coming up with to address sexism in
0:10:11 > 0:10:20sport. Meanwhile, Ana and Luiza have a new recruit. 13-year-old Maria
0:10:20 > 0:10:24will join them for Saturday's game and together they are meeting the
0:10:24 > 0:10:27university team captain, Nicole.
0:11:03 > 0:11:12With some great advice for our young players...
0:11:12 > 0:11:15it's time to see if coach Helena has been equally inspiring, as our
0:11:15 > 0:11:16team thinks about ideas to beat sexism in the sport.
0:11:41 > 0:11:43The women also came up with an idea for an Internet
0:11:43 > 0:11:46channel for female players by female players.
0:12:09 > 0:12:11So the women have three solid solutions.
0:12:11 > 0:12:13Now they just have to make everything happen in three
0:12:13 > 0:12:19days in time for Saturday's match.
0:12:32 > 0:12:34A new day and it's time to start turning ideas into reality.
0:12:34 > 0:12:40The experts want to raise awareness of
0:12:40 > 0:12:44women's football through some empowering messages.
0:12:44 > 0:12:46They've decided to have slogans printed on shirts
0:12:46 > 0:12:54for Saturday's game.
0:13:10 > 0:13:12The new shirt will become the 100 women team kit
0:13:12 > 0:13:20for the match in two days.
0:13:20 > 0:13:22The girls' shirts say "I play like a girl".
0:13:22 > 0:13:24The boys should ask "I play with them,
0:13:24 > 0:13:25what about you?
0:13:25 > 0:13:27" And even the parents get a shared with the
0:13:27 > 0:13:29message, my girl plays football with pride.
0:13:29 > 0:13:35Good job, good job.
0:13:35 > 0:13:37The young players taking part in Saturday's
0:13:37 > 0:13:42game come from all over Rio.
0:13:42 > 0:13:44And it's time to get them back together
0:13:44 > 0:13:54for one last training session before the final match.
0:13:55 > 0:13:57We've brought them to Rio's Temple of Dreams.
0:13:57 > 0:14:00This is the Maracana Stadium.
0:14:00 > 0:14:05Two football World Cups have been played here.
0:14:05 > 0:14:08To train on the pitch at this world-famous football ground is
0:14:08 > 0:14:09beyond the imagination of most aspiring players.
0:14:09 > 0:14:11It's lights, camera action for the team's
0:14:11 > 0:14:18Internet tutorials.
0:14:36 > 0:14:38It's lights, camera action for the team's
0:14:38 > 0:14:41Internet tutorials.
0:15:11 > 0:15:13As the filming of the tutorials continues, a new
0:15:13 > 0:15:19face appears.
0:15:19 > 0:15:2113-year-old MC Soffia is unfamiliar ground at the Maracana.
0:15:21 > 0:15:22This talented rapper performed here during
0:15:22 > 0:15:24the opening ceremony of last
0:15:24 > 0:15:27year's Olympics.
0:15:27 > 0:15:30She's come to meet our team and get inspired to write a
0:15:30 > 0:15:35special football anthem for the final match on Saturday.
0:15:35 > 0:15:39With her performance at the match just two
0:15:39 > 0:15:49days away, MC Soffia uses the iconic stadium as her rehearsal venue.
0:15:52 > 0:15:56The Maracana has played host to some exceptional site over the decades.
0:15:56 > 0:15:58I hope this visit by the 100 women challenge
0:15:58 > 0:15:59will make its way into the
0:15:59 > 0:16:06stadium's history books, too.
0:16:10 > 0:16:12There's just one day to go until the mixed
0:16:12 > 0:16:15gender football match.
0:16:15 > 0:16:19The players are resting up ahead of their game.
0:16:25 > 0:16:27Overnight, our BBC crew edited the video tutorials and it's
0:16:27 > 0:16:31time to reveal them to the experts.
0:17:38 > 0:17:41The YouTube channel is beginning to take shape, but it needs to be
0:17:41 > 0:17:43finished by tomorrow morning so they can share it
0:17:43 > 0:17:47with the young players.
0:17:54 > 0:17:57It's a last day of the final 100 Women challenge of 2017.
0:17:57 > 0:18:00All week the women have been working on new
0:18:00 > 0:18:05rules to make a mixed gender football match fair for females.
0:18:14 > 0:18:16To get some inspiration, two of the team, Maira
0:18:16 > 0:18:17and Bia went to see a
0:18:17 > 0:18:25Korfball game where both sexes play alongside each other.
0:18:25 > 0:18:29When they were there, they've recruited the
0:18:29 > 0:18:31school's PE teacher, Sheila, to referee today's match.
0:18:31 > 0:18:33The other experts are showing off their
0:18:33 > 0:18:37completed YouTube channels to the players.
0:20:26 > 0:20:32With the new rules in place, it's time to hand out the kit. The 100
0:20:32 > 0:20:38women team are in orange.
0:20:42 > 0:20:47The 100 Women team are playing against a mixed gender team from the
0:20:47 > 0:20:50American School of Rio. The school's players train together regularly but
0:20:50 > 0:20:53because there is no mixed gender league, they've never played
0:20:53 > 0:20:55together in a competition before.
0:21:13 > 0:21:18It's a great game so far, very competitive. The 100 Women team is a
0:21:18 > 0:21:25little bit behind but everyone is giving it their best.
0:21:34 > 0:21:38At half-time there are pep talks from parents. And words of wisdom
0:21:38 > 0:21:45from the coaches. Before the whistle for the second half blows again.
0:22:06 > 0:22:14The match has just finished. The 100 Women team lost. It was 9-3 for the
0:22:14 > 0:22:18other team. The girls are a bit upset but they played really, really
0:22:18 > 0:22:21well. Maria, how do you feel, how did you like the game?
0:22:31 > 0:22:36Despite her disappointment, Maria's talent hasn't gone unnoticed.
0:22:59 > 0:23:05All this week there has been a team behind the team, every step of the
0:23:05 > 0:23:07way our girl players have been supported by their family members.
0:24:00 > 0:24:04Luiza's mother is confident about her daughter's future, but what
0:24:04 > 0:24:08about the player herself? How has this week left her feeling?
0:24:35 > 0:24:38Though the 100 Women football team didn't win the match, they are
0:24:38 > 0:24:42claiming victory for the week itself. The messages the women
0:24:42 > 0:24:46wanted to convey came across loud and clear and the Internet channel
0:24:46 > 0:24:53is a lasting legacy of the challenge.I hope and I wish that
0:24:53 > 0:24:57maybe in the next years we can see more and more girls playing soccer.
0:25:17 > 0:25:23After a very inspiring week, everyone has gathered for MC Soffia
0:25:23 > 0:25:25to play the wrap she made especially for this occasion.
