:07:12. > :07:20.a local lad coming to play for local people on a local stage. Yes. The
:07:21. > :07:23.first track that was played, the guitar was cut out and all I could
:07:24. > :07:30.hear was the voices, but everyone was clapping along. It worked out to
:07:31. > :07:33.be a good gig. What is the atmosphere like when you are up on
:07:34. > :07:37.the stage and playing for so many people? Brilliant, especially this
:07:38. > :07:45.gig in particular. Nothing can go wrong. Everyone is very happy and it
:07:46. > :07:49.is a fantastic place to be. Thank you very much. You look at the
:07:50. > :07:55.number of people here this evening. This is Edinburgh at its best.
:07:56. > :08:02.Absolutely. It is a fantastic crowd. We are very proud of the capital

:08:07. > :08:14.Everyone is having a fantastic time and it is going really well. You
:08:15. > :08:18.have only got ten minutes to go. I will be back there watching the

:08:33. > :08:36.This has been the centrepiece. I have met people from all over the

:08:41. > :08:45.Hogmanay. As someone who is part of the city, how is it to welcome all
:08:46. > :08:51.of these people? It is fantastic. It is such a great city. We are all
:08:52. > :08:55.very proud of it. It is a very international city. Everywhere you
:08:56. > :08:58.look, people are enjoying themselves with all different languages and
:08:59. > :09:03.cultures. It is a tremendous atmosphere and everybody is really
:09:04. > :09:09.excited. What can we expect from the fireworks? Can you give us any
:09:10. > :09:16.hints? Very complicated and very well-planned. We are very lucky with
:09:17. > :09:21.the weather. I am sure it will all go really well. It is going to be
:09:22. > :09:26.big. We have seven Hills in Edinburgh, so it would not all be in
:09:27. > :09:31.one place. Wherever you are in the city it will look fantastic. Right
:09:32. > :09:37.along princes Street, we got big screens with live music stages, and
:09:38. > :09:42.it will be some party. World-class party. Thank you both very much. I
:09:43. > :09:47.can tell you, this marks the start of a momentous year for Scotland.
:09:48. > :09:52.When those bells ring in just a few moments, we have the Commonwealth
:09:53. > :09:56.games, the Ryder Cup, and of course, the independence referendum. For
:09:57. > :10:03.now, for the 80,000 people that have packed into the street, the moment
:10:04. > :10:07.is soon to arrive. There are manual press buttons on their laptops.
:10:08. > :10:13.65,000 fireworks will light up the castles from 52 separate locations.
:10:14. > :10:20.That is what we can expect in just a few moments. Many thanks. What a
:10:21. > :10:25.momentous year it will be for the Scots in 2014. The clock is ticking
:10:26. > :10:30.closer to midnight. For more on how things are going on in Central
:10:31. > :10:34.London, let's go to Jonathan, who is on the embankment. He is waiting for
:10:35. > :10:38.us. 80,000 people will be in the centre of Emperor to celebrate. How
:10:39. > :10:43.many are you expecting where you are?
:10:44. > :10:47.The organisers are saying there is room for 250,000 people in the
:10:48. > :10:57.viewing areas for tonight's IRIX display. -- fireworks display. It is
:10:58. > :11:03.30 or so deep in front of me. People have been waiting very patiently all
:11:04. > :11:07.afternoon. And the last half an hour or so, the wind has whipped up a bit
:11:08. > :11:11.and people's umbrellas have gone up, but everyone is in good spirits
:11:12. > :11:19.and they will not let a little bit of bad weather brewing 2014's
:11:20. > :11:27.firework display. It is set to last 15 minutes -- 11 minutes, 12,000
:11:28. > :11:31.pyrotechnics shooting into the night's sky. The London eye will be
:11:32. > :11:35.the centrepiece of tonight's display for this now world-famous
:11:36. > :11:38.celebration, with the eyes of the world and London. There are three
:11:39. > :11:43.barges lined up and the River Thames, which have pyrotechnic
:11:44. > :11:48.equipment on them, and they will add to the display. We have heard about
:11:49. > :11:53.the added elements, the extrasensory element, that organisers say will
:11:54. > :12:00.make this a world first. There will be peach flavoured snow and orange
:12:01. > :12:04.bubbles, which will add to the experience. It is of course the
:12:05. > :12:08.fireworks which people are here to see, and organisers are promising
:12:09. > :12:14.that, although 2013 was not perhaps the iconic year that's 2012 was,
:12:15. > :12:18.this will be the best fireworks display that London has ever seen.
:12:19. > :12:22.The music has stopped, the countdown is now on, and there is very little
:12:23. > :12:26.time to go before the corridor of a million people here packing the
:12:27. > :12:30.embankment ridges across the Thames and other roads in central London
:12:31. > :12:37.are waiting to see, the fireworks display which promises to welcome in
:12:38. > :12:47.2014 here in London in style. Jonathan lies in central London on
:12:48. > :12:52.the waiting for -- Jonathan lies in the en banc met in central London.
:12:53. > :13:00.We will show you the scene as we wait for Big Bend to reach midnight
:13:01. > :13:09.to usher in 2014. The London eye there, lit up in blue, hovering
:13:10. > :13:13.above embankment there. 50,000 people gathered and there are
:13:14. > :13:19.viewing areas rather -- viewing areas along the Thames for another
:13:20. > :13:25.100,000 people to see all of the action. As we have been hearing, 36
:13:26. > :13:32.seconds to go, a century experience as well -- a sensory experience as
:13:33. > :13:36.well. Fruit flavoured bubbles will descend from the skies as a people
:13:37. > :13:52.can actually taste the atmosphere as 2014 is ushered in.
:13:53. > :14:29.(COUNTDOWN). (BELL TOLLS).
:14:30. > :15:46.# I need to know...can you love me again? # London calling... # This is
:15:47. > :15:56.London. # London calling. # Let's dance.
:15:57. > :17:47.# Let's dance. # We gonna let it burn, burn, burn,
:17:48. > :23:55.burn. # It's gonna get, it's gonna get,
:23:56. > :25:06.it's gonna get louder. Indeed, 24 team are in in
:25:07. > :25:09.spectacular style. -- 2014. Illuminated by all of those
:25:10. > :25:17.fireworks, on the banks of the Thames River. 60,000 people in that
:25:18. > :25:26.area. And along the Thames, another 100,000 or so. All welcoming in the
:25:27. > :25:30.new year. Well, of course the New Year celebrations have been going on
:25:31. > :29:38.around the country. Let's take a look at what happened in Edinburgh.
:29:39. > :29:51.Another spectacular show. These celebrations are going to go on for
:29:52. > :30:00.another couple of days? This is three days worth of celebrations in
:30:01. > :30:14.what they described as the capital of the world. It was a momentous
:30:15. > :30:25.moment. You often think, about fireworks, about a man lighting a
:30:26. > :30:30.match but now, 15,000 fireworks. The pet shop those are still playing
:30:31. > :30:39.behind me. Up the hill you can hear the fiddles and pipes. Up in the
:30:40. > :30:48.mountains there are further stages where people are enjoying
:30:49. > :30:53.themselves. People were holding hands, singing, a moment for people
:30:54. > :30:58.to come together. This is a momentous year for Scotland. We have
:30:59. > :31:02.the Commonwealth games, the Ryder Cup, huge sporting events coming to
:31:03. > :31:07.Scotland but then there is that decision for the people here on
:31:08. > :31:12.September 18, on whether or not Scotland should be an independent
:31:13. > :31:23.country. All of that is for the year to come. This moment is all people
:31:24. > :31:33.to enjoy wherever you are. Had picked new year to everybody. But at
:31:34. > :31:48.happy New Year to everybody. Now we go to central London. Have you had a
:31:49. > :31:56.sensory experience tonight? What did the bubble taste like? The extra
:31:57. > :32:01.sensory element did add something to the display but frankly it was at
:32:02. > :32:05.the fireworks were catching everybody's attention. Simply
:32:06. > :32:12.overwhelming to witness a close. Happy New Year from everyone here in
:32:13. > :32:20.central London. I have here at two of the men responsible for putting
:32:21. > :32:29.on the show. It all seemed to go according to plan's absolutely
:32:30. > :32:34.fantastic. It went 100%. We got hit by a loss of rain beforehand but it
:32:35. > :32:39.actually added to the atmosphere at the display it was a good effort and
:32:40. > :32:49.what an experience we have given to hundreds of thousands of people who
:32:50. > :32:55.are came down here. crowds were promised the best display, what made
:32:56. > :32:57.it special for you's the synchronisation with the music
:32:58. > :33:03.worked quite well. Considering the weather, and the other elements, I
:33:04. > :33:07.am delighted with the way it has gone and hopefully that is a pat on
:33:08. > :33:14.the back for each other. It seems like the crowd here enjoyed it. What
:33:15. > :33:22.amount of planning went to put on a show like this? It is down to micro
:33:23. > :33:28.second start. There is the music, what the display looks like, we put
:33:29. > :33:35.it into animation. It is not just the two of us, there is a huge team
:33:36. > :33:41.- around 3000 people working in our team in London. Without them and
:33:42. > :33:50.without the masses of other people who helped, no one could do it. It
:33:51. > :33:55.is brilliant. For someone who has witnessed it up close for the first
:33:56. > :33:59.time, it is incredible. The last few minutes was a real crescendo, the
:34:00. > :34:06.likes of which we have not seen before. It was a superb finale. It
:34:07. > :34:11.impressed me as well. I thought I knew what was coming but it even
:34:12. > :34:17.took me by supply. Congratulations again. Talk us through how it works,
:34:18. > :34:24.when the display starts, is there someone with a finger up on the
:34:25. > :34:34.button? It is all automated. Today there are special effects all fired
:34:35. > :34:39.by a GPS. We are aligning to Big Ben -150 years old. We need to make sure
:34:40. > :34:44.that the clock Tower team have got themselves a mind to make sure we
:34:45. > :34:48.are synchronised. It is modern and older technology. You have many
:34:49. > :34:53.years of experience but it is something you cannot practice, there
:34:54. > :35:01.is no dress rehearsal. You must be nervous in the minutes leading up to
:35:02. > :35:08.it? It is probably the two hours so before midnight. The anxiety, the
:35:09. > :35:12.stress. We are relying on a lot of people to have done their jobs
:35:13. > :35:17.properly. It went well so I am delighted and now we have the relief
:35:18. > :35:23.that we have done a good job. For a few days and then you start planning
:35:24. > :35:28.for next year? We hope we have the opportunity to do so. We have been
:35:29. > :35:33.doing it for ten years and we would like to do it for more.
:35:34. > :35:44.Congratulations. Well done and a happy New Year to you. The best that
:35:45. > :35:49.London has seen, according to the organisers, everything went
:35:50. > :35:52.according to plan. The crowds starting to dispose slowly but the
:35:53. > :35:57.rain has stopped. There were a few showers before midnight but,
:35:58. > :36:09.frankly, people who waited with not going to put -- let those put them
:36:10. > :36:13.off. It went off with lots of banks! -- The rebel leader in South Sudan,
:36:14. > :36:15.Riek Machar, has agreed to peace talks with the Government just hours
:36:16. > :36:30.after his forces attacked the strategically important town
:36:31. > :41:17.let's have a look at how the world agreed to 2014.
:41:18. > :41:28.Wow, what a lot of fire power. Just some of the scenes as the world hush
:41:29. > :41:29.as in 2014. Now it is time to look at the weather for
