0:00:03 > 0:00:06'As we head for the weekend, Angie, what have you got for us?'

0:00:06 > 0:00:08'Well, a lot of dry weather, so that's the good news.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11'There's plenty of scope for getting things done outdoors this weekend,

0:00:11 > 0:00:13'although it won't always...'

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Well, I've been based here as a weather forecaster at

0:00:15 > 0:00:19BBC Northern Ireland since January 1996, would you believe?

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Quite a long time and it has flown in, basically

0:00:21 > 0:00:24because our weather is changing all the time.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26It's just always interesting. Every day's different.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Today got off to quite a dismal start...

0:00:28 > 0:00:30'You think back, forecasters actually had to sit down

0:00:30 > 0:00:33'and manually draw charts,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35'but technology has brought that on leaps and bounds.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38'It means we can get the information out to the public

0:00:38 > 0:00:40'a lot quicker, as well.'

0:00:40 > 0:00:43We have a conference twice a day on most shifts,

0:00:43 > 0:00:46where all the regions and nations come together.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49- Hi, it's Cee in Belfast.- Hi.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51- Hi, Steve, how are you? - Yes, all right, thanks.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55'And then, from that, we can ask questions that are more

0:00:55 > 0:00:57'specific to Northern Ireland.'

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Although they give us the weather story,

0:01:00 > 0:01:03they don't know the detail of Northern Ireland like we do.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06We have our own little microclimates all dotted around Northern Ireland.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08So, for example, in County Down, it tends to be drier,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10but whereas you have Fermanagh

0:01:10 > 0:01:12in the South West, it tends to be a lot wetter,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14because that's where our weather systems come in.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17Then, the North Coast, it's ideal, when it's windy, for surfers.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20We're right on the edge of a huge sea mass.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21We're right on the edge of a continent.

0:01:21 > 0:01:25We're also at a junction between polar cold air to the north

0:01:25 > 0:01:28and warm air, tropical air to the south.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30So, that changes our weather all the time.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33When people are working during the week, maybe the forecast

0:01:33 > 0:01:35isn't as important, apart from maybe in the morning, how are you

0:01:35 > 0:01:38going to get to work, if the weather is going to disrupt things.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41But also, everybody's looking forward to the weekend.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Doing the weather is a very functional thing.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45It's about being out there, it's about getting out

0:01:45 > 0:01:47and making the most of the day.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49And that's really what I'm trying to get across

0:01:49 > 0:01:51every time I do a forecast.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53When can you get out? When can you do the great stuff?

0:01:53 > 0:01:55'These are the kind of places people take pictures of

0:01:55 > 0:01:57'when they're out and about on their time off.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00'Gives you an idea of how your forecast...

0:02:00 > 0:02:04'Is it going to influence what people do for the weekend?'

0:02:04 > 0:02:05Isn't that nice?

0:02:05 > 0:02:07People will e-mail you and go,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09"Oh, thanks for putting my picture up."

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Or "That was a really nice shot of such and such a place.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14"I didn't know where that was."

0:02:14 > 0:02:18So it's definitely something that people like to see.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20That's beautiful. Look at the lovely colours.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22I like a little bit of sunshine.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Always puts a smile on people's face. I like a little bit of warmth.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28That's not to say I don't like a frosty, crisp, winter's morning,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31when the sun's shining, as well, cos that's equally beautiful.

0:02:31 > 0:02:32I love snow.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34When we have one single flake of snow,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37everybody's online, talking to you about it.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40I'm a sunshiny kind of guy. I only do weather when it's good.

0:02:40 > 0:02:41I love thunderstorms.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44I would also like to go to the States

0:02:44 > 0:02:46and do a bit of storm chasing.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49If BBC Newsline wants to fund me to go and do that, hey,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51I'm happy to do it.
