0:00:50 > 0:00:53- We couldn't put them out.

0:00:53 > 0:00:58- Something strange had happened - before the fire started.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03- I had been working on a picture - in the studio.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06- It was a picture - of my grandfather's old home.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10- The same thing had happened - to his house.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13- That's why I wanted - to make this picture.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18- I wanted to make a picture - that spoke across the generations.

0:01:18 > 0:01:24- I paint with acrylic paint - because it dries quickly.

0:01:25 > 0:01:30- I'll use orange for the flames...

0:01:31 > 0:01:37- ..and because it happened at night, - the sky will be dark blue.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41- I'm going to put some green - at the top too.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43- I wanted to use strong colours...

0:01:44 > 0:01:49- ..because it was an emotional - and traumatic experience.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51- Sarah and her family escaped.

0:01:51 > 0:01:55- But one important member - was left behind.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58- As we ran away from the fire...

0:01:58 > 0:02:02- ..to the gate - that leads to the road...

0:02:02 > 0:02:04- ..we realized the dog - wasn't with us.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07- I ran back towards the fire...

0:02:07 > 0:02:10- ..and I could see her - through the window.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14- I felt as though I was running - through a tunnel of flames.

0:02:14 > 0:02:19- She was just sitting there, - so I grabbed her.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24- Sitting where the dog was, - I've painted my grandfather.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52- The picture's title is in the - form of a chat with my grandfather.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56- I always regretted that I didn't - have this conversation with him...

0:02:57 > 0:02:59- ..about the experience he'd had.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03- I've written an imaginary - conversation between us.

0:03:04 > 0:03:05- On the bottom, on the floor.

0:03:07 > 0:03:12- How did you feel at the age of 63, - arriving home from work...

0:03:12 > 0:03:15- ..to find your home burned to ashes?

0:03:15 > 0:03:18- The foundations were set at night - and the walls were wonky...

0:03:19 > 0:03:21- ..but you gave us a home.
