0:00:28 > 0:00:30APPLAUSE

0:08:07 > 0:08:09For years, what we've done is try to make sure that athletes,

0:08:09 > 0:08:11who are at a high level of competition,

0:08:11 > 0:08:13are very aware of the risks.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15We will always be chasing

0:08:15 > 0:08:18because athletes will always be trying to find the next possible way

0:08:18 > 0:08:19to get over the system.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23What we're doing now is looking at younger, lower-age athletes,

0:08:23 > 0:08:26and trying to develop a programme around values.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28It's where we give them very clear information about how to ensure

0:08:28 > 0:08:31that they never take a banned substance inadvertently,

0:08:31 > 0:08:33and that would be one of the biggest worries we'd have

0:08:33 > 0:08:35once they get to a higher level.

0:08:35 > 0:08:37At that stage, if an athlete has chosen to dope,

0:08:37 > 0:08:39it's very hard to change their minds.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42The largest amateur sporting organisation

0:08:42 > 0:08:43in the country is the GAA.

0:08:43 > 0:08:46Where is the relationship between Sport Ireland and the GAA

0:08:46 > 0:08:47in terms of testing athletes?

0:08:47 > 0:08:49We would consider the GAA to be

0:08:49 > 0:08:52a very important part of our programme.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55People recognise the importance and the value of what we do.

0:08:55 > 0:08:56They are an amateur sport,

0:08:56 > 0:08:59but they are a very, very, very high-profile sport in this country,

0:08:59 > 0:09:02and so whereas the risks of professionalism aren't there,

0:09:02 > 0:09:05the risks are there in terms of the high profile of the sport.

0:09:16 > 0:09:20Oisin, is it wishful thinking for us to think that GAA is 100% clean

0:09:20 > 0:09:23from performance-enhancing drugs?

0:09:23 > 0:09:26It would be very naive of us to think that it wasn't going on

0:09:26 > 0:09:29in some form, especially in the club game.

0:09:29 > 0:09:33I think it happens in guys who just want to get bigger going to the gym,

0:09:33 > 0:09:36fitter, stronger, faster,

0:09:36 > 0:09:38and that's how it's sold to them.

0:09:38 > 0:09:40A lot of players see it as, you know,

0:09:40 > 0:09:42this is their opportunity to shine.

0:09:42 > 0:09:44Maybe a young lad sees the opportunity

0:09:44 > 0:09:47to maybe get onto a county squad

0:09:47 > 0:09:50and he thinks, you know, "I might go that extra yard.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53"This might take me to the next level."

0:09:53 > 0:09:54That's the danger in it.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57The danger is, once you start,

0:09:57 > 0:09:59it's very, very difficult to leave it down then.

0:09:59 > 0:10:02You know, it's not something that's going to give you a pick-me-up

0:10:02 > 0:10:05for two to three weeks and you're going to be able to leave it behind.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07One of the things about performance-enhancing drugs is

0:10:07 > 0:10:11that they give you that quick fix that everybody wants nowadays.

0:10:11 > 0:10:14That's the reason why they're so alluring for kids.

0:16:39 > 0:16:41- How are you?- Lovely to see you.

0:16:41 > 0:16:43What a 12 months you've had. Can you quite believe it?

0:16:43 > 0:16:47Not really, no. But we're working hard, so it's worth it.

0:16:47 > 0:16:48And where did all start, Ryan?

0:16:48 > 0:16:51Because, you know, you're a wonderful performer,

0:16:51 > 0:16:54mad into the songs, you write your own material as well.

0:16:54 > 0:16:56Yeah, I mean, it starts at home.

0:16:56 > 0:16:59I grew up in a family that are very musical

0:16:59 > 0:17:02so, yeah, there was always a guitar pretty close to hand.

0:17:02 > 0:17:03And then when did you get the bug

0:17:03 > 0:17:05for going out on the road and performing?

0:17:05 > 0:17:07And when did you know that you wanted to do this?

0:17:07 > 0:17:09I never did, it's just kind of happened.

0:17:09 > 0:17:12It kept forcing itself on me, I kept pushing it away.

0:17:12 > 0:17:16I wanted to be an engineer, but it always found its way back.

0:17:16 > 0:17:19You know, I couldn't argue with it any more, I had to just embrace it.

0:17:19 > 0:17:20But I enjoy it, I really do.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23It's one thing to have talent, though, and then it's another thing

0:17:23 > 0:17:26to have these wonderful opportunities open up for you,

0:17:26 > 0:17:28and you have been so fortunate over the last 12 months.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30- I have.- How has it all come about?

0:17:30 > 0:17:34I honestly don't know. I've just been working, working hard.

0:17:34 > 0:17:36You know, the right people have been watching,

0:17:36 > 0:17:38the right people have been helping,

0:17:38 > 0:17:41and, yeah, as a team, we're just working really hard.

0:17:41 > 0:17:43Perhaps the biggest thing that happened to you

0:17:43 > 0:17:45this year, though, was - yeah, Ed Sheeran was great,

0:17:45 > 0:17:47Foy Vance was brilliant, going out on the road with him,

0:17:47 > 0:17:50but coming home and selling out somewhere like The Limelight

0:17:50 > 0:17:53- without having an album released yet...- Yeah.- ..is a bit crazy.

0:17:53 > 0:17:56I think I'm the only person, bar The Strokes, to have ever done it,

0:17:56 > 0:17:59- and I'm a local boy, so that's pretty good.- Brilliant.

0:17:59 > 0:18:01- So, what's next, then? - Mandela Hall, for Belfast anyway.

0:18:01 > 0:18:06I mean, December, I've gigs all over the UK and stuff,

0:18:06 > 0:18:10but the next sort of Ireland gig is Belfast, Mandela Hall, May 4th.

0:18:10 > 0:18:13- So it's all about touring. Yeah, May the 4th be with you.- Yes.

0:18:13 > 0:18:15It's all about touring at the moment for you,

0:18:15 > 0:18:17but what about going into the studio?

0:18:17 > 0:18:20- When are we going to get new material, Ryan?- Next year.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22I'll definitely have new material this year,

0:18:22 > 0:18:23but the album will be next year.

0:18:23 > 0:18:24That is definitely something to savour

0:18:24 > 0:18:26- and something to look forward to. - Yeah.

0:18:28 > 0:18:29Thank you.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12- Well, Natasha, how are you? - I'm good.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14- Do you want a hand? - Yes, please.- Right.

0:19:15 > 0:19:17- So, how long have you been working here?- A year.

0:19:17 > 0:19:18What's the best thing about it?

0:19:18 > 0:19:20- Making sandwiches. - HE LAUGHS

0:19:20 > 0:19:22- Aye, do you get to eat them?- Yes.

0:19:22 > 0:19:23- You do?- Yes.- Good stuff.

0:19:23 > 0:19:25Well, I want to eat one of these after I make it.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27- Is that enough, no?- A bit more.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29You go more, aye? Right.

0:19:29 > 0:19:30- You roll it up.- OK.

0:19:30 > 0:19:32- Like this.- Like this?

0:19:32 > 0:19:34- You put it over here, right?- Yes.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36And then...

0:19:36 > 0:19:39- And then you roll again. More? - Yeah.- OK.

0:19:41 > 0:19:43- OK. It wasn't that bad, was it?- No.

0:19:43 > 0:19:46Look, you're better than me.

0:20:52 > 0:20:55I was over trying to help Natasha, I'm not too sure how good I was,

0:20:55 > 0:20:58- but I might be better with the sandwiches.- Hopefully.

0:20:58 > 0:21:02So, how did you find out about Loaf and the work that's going on here?

0:21:02 > 0:21:03I was just seeing through things

0:21:03 > 0:21:05- at the local Job Centre.- Yeah.

0:21:05 > 0:21:07Like, with me being dyslexic

0:21:07 > 0:21:09and all, they recommended it.

0:21:09 > 0:21:11And how are you getting on?

0:21:11 > 0:21:13- This type of work I like to do. - Yeah, great.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16So it's not too bad making sandwiches, doing all the prep work.

0:21:16 > 0:21:18After the work experience here, what are your plans?

0:21:18 > 0:21:20Do you have anything that you want to do after?

0:21:20 > 0:21:23My plan is trying to get into the work of catering.

0:21:23 > 0:21:27- Right.- In general, just try to make sandwiches.

0:21:27 > 0:21:33The general idea is I want, in time, to have my own wee cafe business.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36- Jeez, great. - So, that's my life ambition.

0:21:36 > 0:21:39- It's a good place to start, as well, here.- Definitely.

0:21:39 > 0:21:41They give you a lot of help and encouragement.
