0:00:11 > 0:00:13A lot of things have changed in Birmingham

0:00:13 > 0:00:14since I was growing up here.

0:00:15 > 0:00:20But the lessons I learned back then still hold true today,

0:00:20 > 0:00:24like the importance of standing up for what you believe in.

0:00:24 > 0:00:30Now, whether we like it or not, government, locally and nationally,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33has a dramatic influence on the quality of our lives.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36In the painful two years of this government

0:00:36 > 0:00:39it has become even more difficult to bring up a family.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Prices are rising higher than wages,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43a million young people are out of work

0:00:43 > 0:00:47and the banks still pay out big bonuses while families struggle.

0:00:47 > 0:00:52Unbelievably, the Conservatives recently introduced a tax break for millionaires

0:00:52 > 0:00:57whilst at the same time making millions of poorer families pay more.

0:00:57 > 0:00:58Labour, on the other hand,

0:00:58 > 0:01:01would have put 100,000 young people back to work

0:01:01 > 0:01:03by taxing those bankers' bonuses.

0:01:05 > 0:01:10You know, the Conservatives seem hell-bent on destroying our National Health Service.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13They've already laid off over 4,000 nurses.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16It's going to cost an estimated £3 billion

0:01:16 > 0:01:18to implement a reorganisation

0:01:18 > 0:01:22that only David Cameron and a couple of his mates actually want.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27If Labour were in power, they would protect,

0:01:27 > 0:01:30not destroy, the National Health Service.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35They'd absolutely stop nurses being laid off

0:01:35 > 0:01:39and go back to cutting waiting times and improving the quality of care.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44You know, it's not just when you're young, growing up or ill

0:01:44 > 0:01:46that you need a government that supports you.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48How you doing? All right?

0:01:51 > 0:01:55It seems this Conservative government wants to punish our senior citizens.

0:01:55 > 0:01:59The "Granny Tax", introduced by George Osborne in the recent Budget,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01seems like a deliberate attack.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Labour wouldn't have targeted millions of people

0:02:04 > 0:02:08living off their pensions who find it hard enough living as it is.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11They would've helped four million elderly households

0:02:11 > 0:02:14by taking on the energy companies who make the essentials

0:02:14 > 0:02:16like heating and light so ridiculously expensive.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24I'm leading a changed Labour Party in these Local Elections.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Showing how we can tackle rip-off prices like gas

0:02:27 > 0:02:29and electricity bills.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32Showing how we can create real jobs for our young people.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35And showing how we can change our economy

0:02:35 > 0:02:39so it works for all working people, not just a few millionaires.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44If you want to vote for a party which believes in you,

0:02:44 > 0:02:48that's with you, then vote Labour.
