:00:14. > :00:19.Good afternoon and a rather special welcome to Points of View, not just
:00:19. > :00:26.a new series but a new production centre. We're coming to you this
:00:26. > :00:36.week from Belfast. And a good moment to answer a fundamental
:00:36. > :00:53.
:00:53. > :01:03.question put directly to us on the To answer that question let me take
:01:03. > :01:04.
:01:04. > :01:08.you back a few years. 51 years in Good evening. Everyone Monday at
:01:08. > :01:15.this time I'm going to read you your own letters. I do hope they
:01:15. > :01:19.are going to be highly critical and frightfully disbeadient and help
:01:19. > :01:26.television from one of its sins, which is complacency. Welcome to
:01:26. > :01:31.Points of View. Enough! This is yet another television
:01:31. > :01:39.stitch-up. I get really frustrated. Thank you of it more carefully in
:01:39. > :01:44.future... To hear profannities, swearing and blasphemy, it is not
:01:44. > :01:51.on. So there we are. The aim of Points of View is the same now as
:01:51. > :01:57.then to give you a voice on TV, and to keep them on their toes.
:01:57. > :02:07.clearly didn't get it right on this occasion and I'm sorry about that.
:02:07. > :02:14.
:02:14. > :02:20.I think some people would refer the music... It's a first and a great
:02:20. > :02:25.example of people power. Following the positive feed-back of
:02:25. > :02:32.Helicopter Heroes to Points of View, we've decided to air the programme
:02:32. > :02:42.on Monday evening at 7.30pm. I did consider this a bit of a kick in
:02:42. > :02:56.
:02:56. > :03:00.When you come into your own home you expect the television is going
:03:00. > :03:06.to reinforce the messages that you teach your children.
:03:06. > :03:11.So I was very disappointed when we sat down to watch the new animation,
:03:11. > :03:17.Sarah and Duck. As far as my son was concerned, the little girl was
:03:17. > :03:22.going off with a stranger. Come back with me. I have just the thing.
:03:22. > :03:27.OK. It made me really cross, because it is sending out the wrong
:03:27. > :03:33.message to children. It is saying that the stranger danger we are
:03:33. > :03:37.trying to teach them doesn't exist. Get inside. That sounds like a very
:03:37. > :03:41.good idea. Sarah and Duck are always accompanied by the narrator.
:03:41. > :03:47.He is with them in the house and out of it, every minute of the day,
:03:47. > :03:56.so they are never left on their own The scene where they meet the scarf
:03:56. > :04:02.lady on the street, the narrator says, "Hello scarf lady... So you
:04:02. > :04:07.know they know each other. That it was first time we ever saw that
:04:07. > :04:16.episode. We couldn't tell she wasn't a stranger and there was an
:04:16. > :04:19.offscreen presence, the narrator. To me they are overestimating the
:04:19. > :04:22.cognitive reasoning abilities of a three-year-old. I didn't get that
:04:22. > :04:31.from the episode and I have a psychology degree. If most
:04:31. > :04:34.important thing is to say that on C CBeebies the welfare of the
:04:34. > :04:40.children is paramount. We'll record dialogue to make it absolutely
:04:40. > :04:48.clear to the viewers that Sarah, Duck, the narrator and the Scarf
:04:48. > :04:51.lady know each other. When we know we can make a message clearer, we
:04:51. > :04:54.do everything to do that. There you go, our first score on
:04:54. > :04:57.the board for the new series. Your views and opinions count, so let's
:04:57. > :05:07.hear them. Views like a perceived lack of air time for religious
:05:07. > :05:29.
:05:29. > :05:35.programmes over Easter, Good Friday I think during Holy Week there was
:05:35. > :05:41.a lot of programming on TV and radio, Easter at Kings, a
:05:41. > :05:46.documentary about Mary Magdalene, a documentary about Christie and
:05:46. > :05:48.poetry, a Pope's speech. There was a lot of programming. We can never
:05:48. > :05:51.please everybody but there was enough programming there to really
:05:51. > :05:54.give a good service to our viewers over the Easter period.
:05:54. > :05:57.The one religious programme that aired on Good Friday on BBC TV was
:05:57. > :06:00."The Mystery of Mary Magdalene" in which Melvyn Bragg tackled the
:06:00. > :06:10.controversy of one of the Bible's most enigmatic figures. But it just
:06:10. > :06:30.
:06:30. > :06:37.Something which is still challenging to the church today and
:06:37. > :06:41.which has provoked a great deal of speculation among biblical scholars,
:06:41. > :06:46.that Mary Magdalene might have been did lover of Jesus Christ and even
:06:46. > :06:49.his wife. Don't think the programme was inflammatory and speculative.
:06:49. > :06:52.It had academics from around the world. As a subject matter it has
:06:52. > :06:56.been there for a long time. There was nothing particularly shocking
:06:56. > :06:59.in that. If people are upset by it, we never set out to do that and I'm
:06:59. > :07:03.sorry about that. But I think the vast majority of people who watched
:07:03. > :07:09.it, and the audience figures were very good as well, they would have
:07:09. > :07:14.come away with a deep understanding of the importance of Mary Magdalene
:07:14. > :07:18.story. Rediscovered texts give voice to these visionary women and
:07:18. > :07:22.illustrate the struggles they were having with the mainstream churches.
:07:22. > :07:28.We do lots of programming to reflect as wide an audience as
:07:28. > :07:38.possible. In this programme, I think it was good programme and
:07:38. > :08:06.
:08:06. > :08:10.That fits perfectly. This pie is relatively small compared to the
:08:10. > :08:15.Christmas pies of all. Although it will take three hours to cook, we
:08:15. > :08:21.are more than happy to hang around to see how it turns out. There he
:08:21. > :08:25.is! Surely nothing pays finer tribute to our great British fowl
:08:25. > :08:26.than a Yorkshire Christmas pie. Well, maybe it's been this weather
:08:26. > :08:29.that's been making us think of Christmas!
:08:29. > :08:39.Speaking of times past, BBC One rewound a whole century on Sunday
:08:39. > :08:47.
:08:47. > :08:57.evening for the start of the new Lots of praise for the concept, but
:08:57. > :09:03.
:09:03. > :09:07.a rap on the knuckles from the Hubert Parry's Jerusalem is played
:09:07. > :09:11.by the brass band as the village's young recruits march off to war. A
:09:11. > :09:21.poignant departure and dramatic ending to the first episode. Except,
:09:21. > :09:28.
:09:28. > :09:33.And that wasn't all. This is Bill Jones, who plays young Bert in the
:09:33. > :09:35.series. And this is accomplished actor David Ryall, who plays that
:09:35. > :09:45.same Bert in his latter years. Notice anything wrong? An
:09:45. > :09:58.
:09:58. > :10:01.No, Margaret, your eyes weren't deceiving you. But you aren't alone.
:10:01. > :10:06.Some fans of Jonathan Creek couldn't believe what they were
:10:06. > :10:11.watching on Monday night. I thought it might be a good idea to pool our
:10:11. > :10:18.thoughts and see if we can't nudge this one into the back of the net.
:10:18. > :10:28.Sceptic as I was about that secret society nonsense it was at the

:10:56. > :11:04.And while the plot confused some, others were offended by the
:11:04. > :11:10.treatment of a transgender character. I was born a man.
:11:10. > :11:15.Exactly. Must not forget by the way, it's Jack and daveina's anniversary
:11:15. > :11:25.today, so many congratulations to you both. To the lucky husband and
:11:25. > :11:31.And the name I suppose, Jacqueline, appropriate with your identity
:11:31. > :11:41.issues. Jacqueline Hyde? How you do mean
:11:41. > :11:55.
:11:55. > :12:04.Programme makers are always on the hunt for the next big thing, and
:12:04. > :12:08.who'd have thought they'd have all stitched up with a sewing show?
:12:08. > :12:14.have ten minutes left on this alteration challenge. As soon as
:12:14. > :12:19.that time pressure came on you saw a couple of moosive clangers.
:12:19. > :12:22.think Tilly was a little overambitious. She gave herself a
:12:22. > :12:29.pat everyone drafting challenge as well as making the collar for her
:12:29. > :12:32.Funny you should mention that, we're tucking into cookery shows
:12:32. > :12:36.next week. If you've got anything to say about those or anything else
:12:36. > :12:46.on BBC TV, please let us know. And you can do so by using the same

:13:09. > :13:13.Thanks to those of you who've been in touch while we've been off air.
