:00:19. > :00:25.Good afternoon and welcome to Points of View. We start with

:00:25. > :00:31.another programme I am involved in which you have concerns about. What

:00:31. > :00:41.evidence does South Africa have that Sharlene was behind the

:00:41. > :00:43.killing of his wife? -- Shrien Dewani. Last week's programme

:00:43. > :00:45.raised really difficult questions Dewani. Last week's programme

:00:45. > :01:09.from viewers. Obviously, as the presenter of

:01:09. > :01:13.Points of View, I need to get a response to that. We put your

:01:13. > :01:18.complaints directly to the editor. We are confident and satisfied this

:01:18. > :01:23.was not a case of trial by television. It did not set out to

:01:23. > :01:29.prove whether or not Shrien Dewani was innocent or guilty. We thought

:01:29. > :01:34.it was a broadcast in the interest of the public. New evidence

:01:34. > :01:39.suggested the police case had not been fair and properly done. We are

:01:39. > :01:45.mindful of the sensitivities of her family. We warned them sufficiently

:01:45. > :01:49.many weeks beforehand we were doing this. We sought to represent their

:01:49. > :01:52.position in the film with regard to Shrien Dewani having to stand trial

:01:52. > :02:01.and would regard to their own feelings about having to make a

:02:02. > :02:05.broadcast. It was not the family history that Marianne Faithfull

:02:05. > :02:23.uncovered so much as the language she used to express her surprise.

:02:23. > :02:29.Asleep or delighting in offending? I doubt programme-makers will be

:02:29. > :02:48.pleased with either of those descriptions.

:02:48. > :02:58.without meaning to repeat the offence on a Sunday, she exclaimed

:02:58. > :03:04.Jesus Christ Price, Jesus once and, oh my God, five times throughout

:03:04. > :03:09.the show. It was a dangerous situation. A miserable situation.

:03:09. > :03:17.We know the trauma and the horror and the lifelong trauma. Yes. My

:03:17. > :03:24.mother particularly and my grandmother naturally enough really,

:03:24. > :03:28.really hated men. Worth pointing out that in 2010 Ofcom said the

:03:28. > :03:33.kinds of words we are talking rat here are generally acceptable

:03:33. > :03:40.across society because they are frequently used. -- talking about.

:03:40. > :03:45.Colin felt there was too much chat and not enough action in some BBC

:03:45. > :03:50.sports programming. His fan base is growing faster than a footballer's

:03:50. > :03:51.salary and is still growing numbers. Viewers are saying they heartily

:03:51. > :04:12.salary and is still growing numbers. agree with him.

:04:12. > :04:18.We have passed those comments and all the others on this subject to

:04:18. > :04:25.BBC Sport. Wading through those will not leave them much time for

:04:25. > :04:39.what forkfuls of these comments might trigger a similar folly of

:04:39. > :04:44.agreement. Why is it with television, you find a suitable

:04:44. > :05:00.folly him and then, all of this sudden, things changed. -- volume.

:05:00. > :05:06.Page you are. Another loud trailer for a programme coming up. Why oh

:05:06. > :05:12.why do you cranky it up so much? Surely it is above the legal

:05:12. > :05:19.decibel limit. Why is it every time there is a trailer I have to refer

:05:19. > :05:25.to this button on the Controller to equal it out. The way we usually

:05:25. > :05:28.tell is by using peak level - measuring the tops of the

:05:28. > :05:31.programmes in their electronic signal. This meter shows the

:05:31. > :05:35.programmes in their electronic needles moving up to six - the

:05:35. > :05:40.maximum level specified for all programmes and trails. It is not

:05:40. > :05:47.good at measuring madness, which is the way human beings perceive sound.

:05:47. > :05:54.-- loudness. An international group of experts has come up with a thing

:05:54. > :05:59.which measures loudness units and more accurately represents the way

:05:59. > :06:04.we perceive sound and loudness in particular. We hope we can maintain

:06:04. > :06:07.the dynamic excitement of audio in programmes was meaning you do not

:06:07. > :06:17.have to reach for the volume control in between. -- whilst

:06:17. > :06:23.meaning. We have a new regulation. When will it happen? It will not

:06:23. > :06:29.happen overnight. We expect it to have a gradual but sustained

:06:29. > :06:39.improvement in the perceived loudness of programmes. Hopefully

:06:39. > :06:43.that will be to the approval of those who think we're not getting

:06:43. > :06:46.it right. Now to the past and debate over how we like history

:06:46. > :06:51.it right. Now to the past and documentaries served up, with a

:06:51. > :06:56.healthy dose of fun or a straight faced respect for material? A crowd

:06:56. > :07:01.gathered outside the front door. A neighbour shouted, murder, murder.

:07:01. > :07:04.These people outside knew the family and they had the question -

:07:04. > :07:24.where was the baby? From the ghetto to the salon, and

:07:24. > :07:28.the hallowed past to the promised future, this was one of the

:07:28. > :07:48.greatest human journeys in the shortest space of time ever made.

:07:48. > :07:57.I think we will talk that up as 50/50. No such split in the

:07:57. > :08:01.treatment of greyhounds in the Wonder of Dogs. I watched the

:08:01. > :08:06.programme and I was disgusted the programmes were only shown as

:08:06. > :08:11.magnificent machines for racing. They are a marvellous animal, a

:08:11. > :08:16.marvellous machine. Coming out of the trap up to the first bend, they

:08:16. > :08:20.reach speeds of nearly 40 miles an hour. They were not portrayed as

:08:20. > :08:30.the wonderful, cuddly pets they are. The show showed all other breeds of

:08:30. > :08:36.dogs as doing fun things with agility and cuddling their owners.

:08:36. > :08:43.The greyhounds were only shown as races. So many retired greyhounds

:08:43. > :08:48.do need homes. So, BBC, if you are going to the two dogs that are

:08:48. > :08:51.involved in an industry many people find cruel, it would be good if you

:08:51. > :08:57.could redress the balance by showing them as the happy, cuddly

:08:57. > :09:04.pets they really are. Dip the Greyhound get a rough deal in the

:09:04. > :09:06.show? -- did. By calling it a machine, did it miss some of the

:09:06. > :10:43.story? do say will be ignored. You have

:10:43. > :10:52.skipped bail. Three counts of assault in August and skipped bail

:10:52. > :11:02.again. Policing may be a grey area but

:11:02. > :11:08.again. Policing may be a grey area response to

:11:09. > :11:14.again. Policing may be a grey area the light hearted, hustle style to

:11:14. > :11:18.If it is entertainment you are after,

:11:19. > :11:26.If it is entertainment you are room. Miranda Hart made a programme,

:11:27. > :13:53.If it is entertainment you are went Miranda met Bruce.
