0:00:02 > 0:00:06Our reporter Jessica Creighton takes a look back at the year in sport.

0:00:15 > 0:00:15Hello.

0:00:15 > 0:00:21Welcome to the BBC Sports Centre for a look back at the year in sport.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24After 2014 gave us the Ryder Cup, the football World Cup

0:00:24 > 0:00:28and the Commonwealth Games, 2015 had a lot to live up to.

0:00:28 > 0:00:34But as we're about to show you, it had a very good go.

0:00:34 > 0:00:39# Ooh, I want the time of my life.

0:00:39 > 0:00:40# Oh, baby.

0:00:40 > 0:00:48# Ooh, give me the time of my life... #

0:00:50 > 0:00:51Oh, yes!

0:00:51 > 0:00:52An absolute belter!

0:00:52 > 0:00:54England are ahead.

0:00:54 > 0:00:59Wales will be in France next summer!

0:00:59 > 0:01:02And New Zealand have defended the World Cup!

0:01:02 > 0:01:03Brilliantly caught!

0:01:03 > 0:01:10That is an outrageous catch by Ben Stokes!

0:01:10 > 0:01:15Great Britain have done it in the most spectacular style.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17Here comes Usain Bolt!

0:01:17 > 0:01:19Usain Bolt!

0:01:19 > 0:01:22He's saved his title!

0:01:22 > 0:01:25He may have even saved his sport.

0:01:26 > 0:01:31# Ooh, I want the time of my life.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33# Oh, baby.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36# Ooh, give me the time of my life... #

0:01:36 > 0:01:40Jessica Ennis-Hill is back on top of the world.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43But before the action comes politics, and it

0:01:43 > 0:01:45was a dark year for football.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48The sport's governing body, Fifa, came under fire after a catalogue

0:01:48 > 0:01:51of corruption allegations.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Leading officials were arrested in dawn raids by US prosecutors.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58However, Sepp Blatter was then controversially re-elected

0:01:58 > 0:02:03as President, before stunningly stepping down

0:02:03 > 0:02:05after 17 years, only days later.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06Next, Swiss authorities investigated Blatter and

0:02:06 > 0:02:11Uefa President Michel Platini, overpayments described as disloyal.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Both were suspended from football before Blatter was then implicated

0:02:13 > 0:02:17in a $100 million bribery scandal.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21A dark, dark year for Fifa.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24But, sadly, corruption wasn't just restricted to football.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27In November, amid shocking allegations of systematic doping,

0:02:27 > 0:02:32cover-ups, collusion, bribery and extortion in Russian athletics,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35a World Anti-Doping Agency report recommended the country be banned

0:02:35 > 0:02:38from all athletics.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42The sport's world governing body, the IAAF, obliged.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Tonight, our sport finds itself in a shameful situation.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49That is why I can confirm that the council has overwhelmingly

0:02:49 > 0:02:55voted, with immediate effect, to suspend the Russian Federation.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Yet Lord Coe's predecessor, Lamine Diack was also implicated

0:02:58 > 0:03:01in the doping scandal and was investigated over allegations he

0:03:01 > 0:03:07took payments to cover up cheating.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10Back in August, however, the sport was showcased in the Bird's Nest in

0:03:10 > 0:03:12Beijing for the World Championships.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15In a vast city of around 20 million people, Great Britain stood out

0:03:15 > 0:03:18from the crowd, finishing fourth on the medal table with four golds -

0:03:18 > 0:03:23and all thanks to a terrific trio.

0:03:24 > 0:03:28Mo looking both left and right.

0:03:28 > 0:03:33Jess Ennis-Hill making it look very easy indeed.

0:03:34 > 0:03:35Look at that!

0:03:35 > 0:03:39He takes the lead.

0:03:39 > 0:03:44Utterly brilliant, isn't she?

0:03:44 > 0:03:45It's a mammoth jump!

0:03:45 > 0:03:49Greg Rutherford has produced a beautiful jump.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52Mo Farah, striking for gold again!

0:03:52 > 0:03:55They've got nothing for him!

0:03:55 > 0:03:58That is fantastic.

0:03:58 > 0:04:02Mo Farah is best, Mo Farah is the world champion again.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05Jessica Ennis-Hill is back on top of the world!

0:04:05 > 0:04:07Rutherford completes his grand slam.

0:04:07 > 0:04:13It's a fantastic five for Farah.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19The greatest sportsman that Britain has ever had.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Three brilliant Brits doing the business for their country, and

0:04:22 > 0:04:24Jessica Ennis-Hill's achievement was extraordinary, given she had only

0:04:24 > 0:04:28given birth to her first child the year before and she only decided to

0:04:28 > 0:04:31compete in Beijing a month before.

0:04:31 > 0:04:35The mother of all comebacks.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37Absolutely brilliant.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41Storybook athletics.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44It's been the most amazing year, as well, because I've got

0:04:44 > 0:04:47my son and now I'm back here, on a global stage, with a global

0:04:47 > 0:04:49title again, which is amazing.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52While her performance was special, so was Usain Bolt's.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55He defeated two-time drug cheat Justin Gatlin in the 100 metres,

0:04:55 > 0:04:58won three titles and, in turn, became the most successful athlete

0:04:58 > 0:05:03in history, with 11 world golds.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06# Keep on with the force, don't stop

0:05:06 > 0:05:08# Don't stop till you get enough

0:05:08 > 0:05:10# Keep on with the force, don't stop

0:05:10 > 0:05:11# Don't stop till you get enough

0:05:11 > 0:05:13# Keep on with the force, don't stop

0:05:13 > 0:05:20# Don't stop till you get enough. #

0:05:20 > 0:05:21And Bolt gets there!

0:05:21 > 0:05:25Usain Bolt!

0:05:25 > 0:05:28Usain Bolt continues to go!

0:05:28 > 0:05:35Usain Bolt wins it for Jamaica!

0:05:36 > 0:05:39Bolt best in Beijing, then, and the only thing that could stop

0:05:39 > 0:05:41him, really - that!

0:05:41 > 0:05:45A Chinese cameraman on a Segway.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48But there was no stopping Hannah Cockroft at the IPCC World

0:05:48 > 0:05:50Championships for para-athletes.

0:05:50 > 0:05:52Britain finished fourth on the medal table, with 13 golds,

0:05:52 > 0:05:56and Cockcroft got three of them.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00And with the next Paralympics and Olympics on the horizon, will there

0:06:00 > 0:06:06be another British gold rush, just like there was here at London 2012?

0:06:06 > 0:06:08Well, some of the likely medal contenders for Rio 2016 got

0:06:08 > 0:06:12in their groundwork in 2015.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16MUSIC: "Guava Samba" by Thomas Cameron Kincaid.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00Plenty to look forward to in Rio, then, including

0:07:00 > 0:07:03an Olympic debut for rugby union.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06More recently, though, a World Cup on home soil was a major

0:07:06 > 0:07:08talking point for the sport.

0:07:08 > 0:07:12But before that came a classic Six Nations.

0:07:12 > 0:07:15Three countries, Wales, Ireland and England, with three wins apiece,

0:07:15 > 0:07:20went into the final round of matches with a chance of claiming the title.

0:07:20 > 0:07:24All three teams won for the fourth time, and in handsome fashion.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28Yet Ireland retained the title - just.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31Such success in the World Cup was harder to come by, though.

0:07:31 > 0:07:35At least Ireland, Wales and Scotland got to the quarterfinals.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37For the hosts of the tournament, England,

0:07:37 > 0:07:40rugby would reach a new low.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43They lost twice here at Twickenham against a Wales side depleted

0:07:43 > 0:07:45by injuries and eventual finalists Australia, failing to even get out

0:07:45 > 0:07:50of their group.

0:07:50 > 0:07:54Here's the story of those five weeks back in the autumn.

0:07:54 > 0:08:01# These four lonely walls have changed the way I feel

0:08:01 > 0:08:04# The way I feel

0:08:04 > 0:08:10# Memories turn to dust

0:08:10 > 0:08:13# Please don't bury us

0:08:13 > 0:08:21# I got you, I got you

0:08:21 > 0:08:23# Runnin', runnin', runnin', runnin'

0:08:23 > 0:08:26# Runnin', runnin', runnin'

0:08:26 > 0:08:29# Ain't runnin' from myself no more

0:08:29 > 0:08:33# Together we'll win it all

0:08:33 > 0:08:37# I ain't runnin', runnin', runnin', runnin'

0:08:37 > 0:08:40# Runnin', runnin', runnin'

0:08:40 > 0:08:43# Ain't runnin' from myself no more

0:08:43 > 0:08:47# I'm ready to face it all

0:08:47 > 0:08:53# If I lose myself, I lose it all. #

0:08:55 > 0:08:59New Zealand, the first side to ever retain a Rugby World Cup, then.

0:08:59 > 0:09:01But just 18 days later, their irreplaceable captain

0:09:01 > 0:09:04Richie McCaw retired.

0:09:04 > 0:09:07And, on the same day, one of the greatest All Blacks ever

0:09:07 > 0:09:10passed away, man-mountain and icon of the sport Jonah Lomu,

0:09:10 > 0:09:15dying at the age of just 40.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18Lomu, of course, famously scored four tries against England

0:09:18 > 0:09:22in the 1995 World Cup, and the full fallout of their disastrous 2015

0:09:22 > 0:09:28campaign was confirmed in November.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30Stuart Lancaster resigns after England's worst ever

0:09:30 > 0:09:32performance in the Rugby World Cup.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34For the first time ever, they failed to reach the knockout

0:09:34 > 0:09:37stages of the tournament, despite being the host nation.

0:09:37 > 0:09:39In a statement, Stuart Lancaster said he would took responsibility

0:09:39 > 0:09:41for the squad's performance.

0:09:41 > 0:09:44But the RFU filled the void quickly, appointing Australian Eddie Jones

0:09:44 > 0:09:49as the first foreign head coach of the English rugby union team.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52Rugby league convert Sam Burgess took much of the criticism

0:09:52 > 0:09:54for England's poor World Cup performance,

0:09:54 > 0:09:57and he duly headed straight back to the 13-man game, only weeks

0:09:57 > 0:10:01after the tournament ended.

0:10:01 > 0:10:04Prior to that, Burgess had helped his now former club side Bath

0:10:04 > 0:10:08reach the Premiership final, where they were defeated by Saracens.

0:10:08 > 0:10:12In the Pro12, Glasgow Warriors became the new champions.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15There was a new champion in rugby league's Super League, too.

0:10:15 > 0:10:20In fact, there was only one team to talk about in 2015 - Leeds Rhinos.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23Having already won the Challenge Cup, they added the

0:10:23 > 0:10:27Super League Leader's Shield, too, and then the Grand Final.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30Leeds win the treble!

0:10:30 > 0:10:34What a way to finish a magical season.

0:10:34 > 0:10:39Leeds legends Jamie Peacock and Kevin Sinfield going out in glory.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46And in another glorious Premier League season, 975 goals

0:10:46 > 0:10:50were scored in 380 matches.

0:10:50 > 0:10:52And although Chelsea may have conceded the standout goal,

0:10:52 > 0:11:04they were the standout team.

0:11:04 > 0:11:20MUSIC: "Sax" by Fleur East.

0:11:20 > 0:11:23And while Chelsea also won the League Cup last season,

0:11:23 > 0:11:24things change quickly in football.

0:11:24 > 0:11:31Just ask Jose Mourinho.

0:11:31 > 0:11:35Seven months after winning the title, he was sacked.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37Nine defeats in 16 league games left him nowhere to hide.

0:11:37 > 0:11:42He'll be looking forward to a New Year, as will Liverpool.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45They lost Steven Gerrard to Los Angeles, as well

0:11:45 > 0:11:46as their manager, in October.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49Brendan Rodgers sacked and replaced by one of the most cheerful

0:11:49 > 0:11:52and charismatic men in football.

0:11:52 > 0:11:53My mother maybe sits in front of the television

0:11:56 > 0:11:57and watches this press conference.

0:11:57 > 0:11:58And she's very proud.

0:11:58 > 0:11:59I'm totally normal guy.

0:11:59 > 0:12:03I'm the normal one, maybe?

0:12:03 > 0:12:06Normal for Arsenal these days is winning the FA Cup.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08Sanchez.

0:12:08 > 0:12:12Sanchez has scored an absolute beauty.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15Victory for the second year in a row as they thrashed

0:12:15 > 0:12:18Aston Villa 4-0 at Wembley.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21Up in Scotland, the cup finals were much tighter affairs, as

0:12:21 > 0:12:24Inverness Caledonian Thistle edged past Falkirk 2-1 to win the Scottish

0:12:24 > 0:12:29Cup, their first major trophy.

0:12:29 > 0:12:32There was, however, a much more familiar winner of the Scottish

0:12:32 > 0:12:39League Cup and league title.

0:12:39 > 0:12:40Celtic again doing the business.

0:12:40 > 0:12:42On the international scene, things were less successful

0:12:42 > 0:12:43for Scottish football.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46They failed to qualify for Euro 2016 in France, which was

0:12:46 > 0:12:48even more disappointing given the success the neighbours had.

0:12:48 > 0:12:50Under the leadership of manager Michael O'Neill,

0:12:50 > 0:12:56Northern Ireland reached their first major tournament in 34 years.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59Wales went one better than that, Gareth Bale's goals got them back

0:12:59 > 0:13:06in the big time for the first time since the 1958 World Cup.

0:13:06 > 0:13:11And thanks to a super effort, the Republic of Ireland will also be

0:13:11 > 0:13:16in France after beating Bosnia-Herzegovina in the play-offs.

0:13:16 > 0:13:18By then, England had long qualified.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21Plenty to celebrate for the captain Wayne Rooney, who also became

0:13:21 > 0:13:23his country's record goal-scorer.

0:13:23 > 0:14:33There were much sadder times for football and the world late

0:15:35 > 0:15:37England eventually knocked out of the semifinal stage, then,

0:15:37 > 0:15:38in the cruellest of manners.

0:15:38 > 0:15:41And while the USA would go on to win the World Cup,

0:15:41 > 0:15:44the image of women's football in Britain seemed to shift massively

0:15:44 > 0:15:45as a result of England's efforts.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47Look, Laura Bassett's name is on that

0:15:47 > 0:15:55score sheet, but she's epitomised this England team this tournament.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57She's been courageous, strong, kept this group together.

0:15:57 > 0:15:58She didn't deserve that.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00What have you just said to the girls?

0:16:00 > 0:16:02Look, it's OK to cry.

0:16:02 > 0:16:04But ever the professionals, less than three weeks after

0:16:04 > 0:16:07their World Cup exit, Laura Bassett and her fellow Lionesses were back

0:16:07 > 0:16:11playing in the FA Cup Final as Chelsea defeated Notts County.

0:16:11 > 0:16:12The Blues matched their male counterparts

0:16:12 > 0:16:14by securing the league title, too.

0:16:14 > 0:16:18The double done, cheers for Chelsea.

0:16:18 > 0:16:45as the controversial Tyson Fury, who dressed up as Batman earlier

0:16:45 > 0:16:48In one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing history, WBA,

0:16:48 > 0:16:50WBO and IBF champion Vladimir Klitschko was beaten

0:16:50 > 0:16:51for the first time in 11 years.

0:16:51 > 0:16:53And that is something to brag about.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56Put your hands together for the eighth wonder of the world!

0:16:56 > 0:16:58I think he deserves a standing ovation!

0:16:58 > 0:16:59Get up and bow!

0:16:59 > 0:17:01Get up and bow to my son, everyone of you!

0:17:01 > 0:17:02Give him a bow!

0:17:02 > 0:17:07And while Tyson Fury and his views have been talked about

0:17:07 > 0:17:10a lot recently, boxing's biggest name remains Floyd Mayweather.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13He won the so-called fight of the century against Manny Pacquiao in

0:17:13 > 0:17:16May and smiled all the way to the bank in 2015, to remain the best

0:17:17 > 0:17:19paid sportsperson in the world.

0:17:19 > 0:17:21But not far behind Mayweather on sport's rich list is

0:17:21 > 0:17:22Formula One's Lewis Hamilton.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25He begins a new ?100 million contract with Mercedes next season.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27But the Briton continues to prove his worth, joining

0:17:27 > 0:17:30Sir Jackie Stewart as a three-time Formula One world champion.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33And not only did Hamilton retain the world title in 2015,

0:17:33 > 0:17:33he completely dominated.

0:17:33 > 0:17:34# I need that

0:17:34 > 0:17:36# Ground beneath my feet to feel that

0:17:36 > 0:17:38# Ground beneath my feet

0:17:38 > 0:17:54# I need that

0:17:54 > 0:17:56# Ground beneath my feet to feel that

0:17:56 > 0:17:57# Ground beneath my feet

0:17:57 > 0:17:59# I need that # I need that

0:17:59 > 0:18:05# Ground beneath my feet to feel that

0:18:05 > 0:18:06# Ground beneath my feet

0:18:06 > 0:18:11# I need that

0:18:11 > 0:18:13# Ground beneath my feet to feel that

0:18:13 > 0:18:14# I need that

0:18:14 > 0:18:16# I need that home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home

0:18:16 > 0:18:19# Cos it's life that I've been living in my home

0:18:19 > 0:18:21# Home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home

0:18:21 > 0:18:24# Cos I'm tired of being out here on my own

0:18:24 > 0:18:25# I'm coming home

0:18:25 > 0:18:26# Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah

0:18:26 > 0:18:28# I'm coming home, oh, yeah

0:18:28 > 0:18:30# All of this time I've been livin' it up

0:18:30 > 0:18:43# All that's left is rubble and dust

0:18:43 > 0:18:45# Oh, oh, I'm coming home... #

0:18:45 > 0:18:47Lewis Hamilton has won his third World Championship!

0:18:47 > 0:18:50HAMILTON ON TEAM RADIO: This is the greatest moment of my life.

0:18:50 > 0:18:53But while Hamilton won with three races still remaining, the MotoGP

0:18:53 > 0:19:07season was a far closer call.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi had led all season, but was

0:19:10 > 0:19:13punished for kicking off another rider in the penultimate race.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16And he duly lost the title at the finale to Yamaha team-mate

0:19:16 > 0:19:16Jorge Lorenzo.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19And remaining on two wheels, for an historic Tour de France,

0:19:19 > 0:19:22as Chris Froome became the first Briton to win it twice.

0:19:22 > 0:19:24And what a battle it was for Froome.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26Not only did his exceptional abilities cause French TV,

0:19:26 > 0:19:29without any proof, to imply he was a drugs cheat, but the Briton was

0:19:29 > 0:19:32also subjected to attacks while riding, being spat at and having

0:19:32 > 0:19:34urine thrown at him by spectators.

0:19:34 > 0:19:43To overcome that and three weeks of mental and physical torture to

0:19:43 > 0:19:45win makes Froome's achievements all the more special.

0:19:45 > 0:19:46It's been amazing, amazing experience,

0:19:46 > 0:19:49actually having done it and come out successful, the way we did.

0:19:49 > 0:19:51Of course, it's an amazing feeling.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54And from the world's greatest road cyclist to the world's most famous

0:19:54 > 0:20:12horse race, the Grand National.

0:20:12 > 0:20:15Many Clouds won the 168th running of it to give jockey Leighton Aspell

0:20:16 > 0:20:16his second consecutive victory.

0:20:16 > 0:20:19There will be no more victories for AP McCoy, though.

0:20:19 > 0:20:21After a glorious career spanning more than two decades,

0:20:21 > 0:20:2420 champion jockey titles and 4,357 winners, it all came to an

0:20:24 > 0:20:28end here, at Sandown Park in April.

0:20:28 > 0:20:30The man who broke every record in the book -

0:20:30 > 0:20:34and every bone in his body - will not be forgotten by the sport.

0:20:34 > 0:20:48And nor will Stuart Bingham in his sport.

0:20:48 > 0:20:50He won the 2015 World Snooker Championship, completing

0:20:50 > 0:20:52an astonishing transition from journeyman to King of the Crucible.

0:20:52 > 0:20:55And while the world title is snooker's biggest prize, surely

0:20:55 > 0:20:56the Ashes are test cricket's.

0:20:56 > 0:20:58In 2015, England met Australia again in a dramatic series.

0:20:58 > 0:21:01Before that came an even more dramatic shake-up which

0:21:01 > 0:21:03began after England were embarrassed and eliminated early in the

0:21:03 > 0:21:04Cricket World Cup by Bangladesh.

0:21:04 > 0:21:07ECB managing director Paul Downton duly left his role and was replaced

0:21:07 > 0:21:10by former captain Andrew Strauss, who then sacked head coach Peter

0:21:10 > 0:21:13Moores and told Kevin Pietersen, who had been scoring runs galore for

0:21:13 > 0:21:15Surrey, that he was not part of England's plans.

0:21:15 > 0:21:19And Strauss still had work to do, a new head coach was needed.

0:21:19 > 0:21:20Australian Trevor Bayliss was the man.

0:21:20 > 0:21:22His first task, try to win back the Ashes.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25And it was no problem, as the devastating duo of England's

0:21:25 > 0:21:28record wicket taker James Anderson and Stuart Broad did the damage.

0:21:28 > 0:21:32MUSIC: "Intoxicated" by Martin Solveig GTA

0:21:32 > 0:21:34# Let's dance

0:21:34 > 0:21:36# Let's dance, no time for romance

0:21:36 > 0:21:37# You got me intoxicated

0:21:37 > 0:22:20# You got me intoxicated... #

0:22:20 > 0:22:20England!

0:22:20 > 0:22:23A superb summer for Alistair Cook's side, then, winning the Ashes 3-2.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26And they've now upped sticks to South Africa to take on

0:22:26 > 0:22:27the world's number-one test team.

0:22:27 > 0:22:30Top of the tree in the women's game are Australia.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33Like their male counterparts, they travelled to England for the Ashes.

0:22:33 > 0:22:35They have much more success, though, winning back the urn from

0:22:35 > 0:22:36Charlotte Edwards' side.

0:22:36 > 0:22:41In women's golf, the major team competition is the Solheim Cup, and

0:22:41 > 0:22:44it was won back by America in what was an incredible year for US golf.

0:22:44 > 0:22:52One major in the women's game, and three out of four in the men's.

0:22:52 > 0:22:55Zach Johnson won the 144th Open Championship at St Andrews.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58But intimidatingly talented Texan Jordan Spieth dominated the sport.

0:22:58 > 0:23:01The then 21-year-old won the first two majors of the year,

0:23:01 > 0:23:03including a record-breaking victory at the Masters.

0:23:03 > 0:23:11Spieth also took the world number one spot from Rory McIlroy, who will

0:23:11 > 0:23:15surely have his hands full in 2016.

0:23:15 > 0:23:18Andy Murray certainly had his hands full in 2015, on and off the court.

0:23:18 > 0:23:22More on Murray in a moment.

0:23:22 > 0:23:29The past 12 months in the women's game can be summed up

0:23:29 > 0:23:30in a simple sentence.

0:23:30 > 0:23:32Williams was wonderful - Serena winning three majors.

0:23:32 > 0:23:40For the men, Djokovic dominated.

0:23:40 > 0:23:4882 victories and just six defeats for the Serbian

0:23:48 > 0:23:50as he also won three grand slams.

0:23:50 > 0:23:51But what of that man Murray?

0:23:51 > 0:23:54Well, he came close in the majors, including losing in the Australian

0:23:54 > 0:23:58Open final - to Djokovic, of course - while his brother Jamie got to two

0:23:58 > 0:23:59grand slam doubles finals.

0:23:59 > 0:24:01However, the Murrays had their attentions fixed

0:24:01 > 0:24:02on another prize, the Davis Cup.

0:24:02 > 0:24:06Having beaten France here in an epic at Queen's Club, as well as the USA

0:24:06 > 0:24:09and Australia in Glasgow, they then travelled to Belgium for the final,

0:24:09 > 0:24:12where they brought this cup home for the first time in 79 years.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15Andy Murray plays on home soil for the first time since 2011.

0:24:15 > 0:24:21The return of Andy Murray has been triumphant.

0:24:21 > 0:24:26James Ward brings Glasgow to its feet!

0:24:26 > 0:24:30Triumph for the Great Britain Davis Cup team.

0:24:30 > 0:24:35The Americans beaten.

0:24:35 > 0:24:38First set to France.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41Unbelievable character, that.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44Great Britain are in the Davis Cup semifinal.

0:24:44 > 0:24:52Absolutely pivotal doubles.

0:24:52 > 0:24:59We're going five sets here in Glasgow.

0:24:59 > 0:25:02# We used to have it all but now's our curtain call... #

0:25:02 > 0:25:04The Murrays win! 2-1 Great Britain!

0:25:04 > 0:25:08# Wave out to the crowd, and take our final bow...

0:25:08 > 0:25:11GB are in the Davis Cup final.

0:25:11 > 0:25:12A monumental effort.

0:25:12 > 0:25:18# At least we stole the show... #

0:25:18 > 0:25:20Welcome to this historic occasion.

0:25:20 > 0:25:25Bet you thought you'd never see the day again.

0:25:25 > 0:25:29One down, two to go. Stepping up again for his country.

0:25:29 > 0:25:34The Murrays have won and they have inched Great Britain closer.

0:25:34 > 0:25:39Two number ones squaring up.

0:25:39 > 0:25:46One set away from more tennis history.

0:25:46 > 0:25:48Great Britain have done it in the most spectacular style!

0:25:48 > 0:25:51The Davis Cup is on its way back.

0:25:51 > 0:25:54We'll all remember this year for the rest of our lives,

0:25:54 > 0:25:58regardless of what happens in the rest of any of our careers.

0:25:58 > 0:26:00Nothing may ever top this now.

0:26:00 > 0:26:03And what a fitting end to a vintage year of sport the Davis Cup was.

0:26:03 > 0:26:06Murray will soon have to forget about it, though, what with

0:26:06 > 0:26:08a first child due in February.

0:26:08 > 0:26:10But can he win another major in 2016, too?

0:26:10 > 0:26:13There's that possibility and much more to look forward to

0:26:13 > 0:26:15in the coming year, including the Olympics and Paralympics in Rio.

0:26:15 > 0:26:18But, for now, thanks for watching the 2015 Year In Sport, and we'll

0:26:19 > 0:26:20see you again in 12 months' time.

0:26:20 > 0:26:25Goodbye.

0:26:37 > 0:26:41Hello. This is Breakfast, with Roger Johnson and Naga Munchetty.
