0:00:03 > 0:00:0712 weeks ago, I set out to find six young people with Tourette syndrome
0:00:07 > 0:00:09who could take their musical aspirations to the next level.
0:00:09 > 0:00:14What I did not expect to find was the level of talent, creativity and dedication
0:00:14 > 0:00:16that will definitely inspire you tonight.
0:00:16 > 0:00:21- Reggie!- Reggie Yates... - On BBC Radio 1.
0:00:21 > 0:00:25I present the Official Chart on Radio 1 and host TV talent shows.
0:00:25 > 0:00:29Number 15 is just around the corner. We are getting closer and closer.
0:00:29 > 0:00:32But now I've taken on something completely different.
0:00:33 > 0:00:38Condoms, syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia.
0:00:38 > 0:00:40Petrol bomb.
0:00:40 > 0:00:41Wankers.
0:00:41 > 0:00:46I wanted to put together an event to showcase young people with Tourettes who have raw musical ability.
0:00:46 > 0:00:49Reggie has a wedgie!
0:00:49 > 0:00:52But it's been no ordinary journey.
0:00:56 > 0:00:59All the performers tonight live with constant physical and verbal tics.
0:01:00 > 0:01:02Hello!
0:01:02 > 0:01:06# There's no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard... #
0:01:06 > 0:01:10But music has an extraordinary effect on their lives.
0:01:11 > 0:01:16And I was surprised to discover that when they perform their tics completely disappear.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19# ..It's always better when we're together... #
0:01:19 > 0:01:20SHE SINGS A SCALE
0:01:20 > 0:01:28For the past eight weeks, vocal coach Jo Price has put them through hours of intensive musical training.
0:01:28 > 0:01:34Only when they all came together did I realise the enormity of the task I'd set myself.
0:01:36 > 0:01:37Out the door, go.
0:01:37 > 0:01:41To say I'm anxious is a massive understatement.
0:01:41 > 0:01:42Shut up!
0:01:42 > 0:01:48But music is their passion and hopefully tonight will be the greatest performance of their lives.
0:01:51 > 0:01:56APPLAUSE
0:01:59 > 0:02:03Now for those of you that don't know much about Tourettes, it can be quite confusing.
0:02:03 > 0:02:07There are more than 300,000 people in the UK currently diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome.
0:02:07 > 0:02:09HE SCREAMS
0:02:09 > 0:02:13Now, there's a huge amount of misconception when it comes to Tourettes,
0:02:13 > 0:02:15and part of the goal is to break down that stigma.
0:02:15 > 0:02:17HE SHOUTS
0:02:17 > 0:02:19Talent over Tourettes, you could say.
0:02:19 > 0:02:23But enough of me, let's get the music started and, more importantly, meet the performers.
0:02:23 > 0:02:29First up, Jake Ryall with hair fit for a pop star and a voice that isn't half bad too.
0:02:29 > 0:02:30Right, let's go.
0:02:33 > 0:02:35Jake is 15.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40He was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome two years ago.
0:02:43 > 0:02:45I do spend quite a lot of time in the house.
0:02:45 > 0:02:49I don't always want to go out because of my Tourettes,
0:02:49 > 0:02:52if it's bad on a certain day then I feel, like,
0:02:52 > 0:02:55I don't want to go out and start ticking in front of everyone.
0:02:55 > 0:03:01When I'm in school, I have to sit inside a classroom all day
0:03:01 > 0:03:06and try to make it look like I'm not different to everyone else,
0:03:06 > 0:03:08I just want to be not the same as everyone else,
0:03:08 > 0:03:11cos I know I'm never going to be the same as everyone else,
0:03:11 > 0:03:13but I don't want everyone judging me.
0:03:15 > 0:03:18Jake lives in Bristol with his dad Danny and mum Julie.
0:03:19 > 0:03:23Most of his friends at school probably don't ever see him tic.
0:03:23 > 0:03:28But then he comes home from school and obviously he has to release those tics.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30And what happens when he releases them?
0:03:30 > 0:03:31It's like fireworks night.
0:03:31 > 0:03:33Fuck you.
0:03:33 > 0:03:35What's happened to your hand?
0:03:35 > 0:03:37Tourettes. Punched a wall a couple of times.
0:03:37 > 0:03:39You're kidding me!
0:03:40 > 0:03:41Wow, OK.
0:03:41 > 0:03:46I don't want to be known as the kid who's got a problem,
0:03:46 > 0:03:50I just want to be known as a kid who, yeah, has got something wrong with him,
0:03:50 > 0:03:53but he just does... he gets on with it.
0:03:53 > 0:03:55This is Two Door Cinema Club's What You Know.
0:03:55 > 0:03:57Please put your hands together for Jake!
0:04:12 > 0:04:16# In a few weeks I will get time
0:04:16 > 0:04:19# To realise it's right before my eyes
0:04:19 > 0:04:22# And I can take it
0:04:22 > 0:04:26# If it's what I want to do
0:04:26 > 0:04:30# I am leaving, this is starting
0:04:30 > 0:04:33# To feel like it's right before my eyes
0:04:33 > 0:04:35# And I can taste it
0:04:35 > 0:04:40# It's my sweet beginning
0:04:40 > 0:04:45# And I can tell just what you want
0:04:45 > 0:04:48# You don't want to be alone
0:04:48 > 0:04:52# You don't want to be alone
0:04:54 > 0:04:59# And I can't say it's what you know
0:04:59 > 0:05:02# But you've known it the whole time... #
0:05:02 > 0:05:06It's amazing. If you walked into the studio now,
0:05:06 > 0:05:12you'd never know Jake had Tourette syndrome and there's no sign of any nerves!
0:05:12 > 0:05:14Right, what's the time?
0:05:14 > 0:05:20I'm hoping the same will go for 15-year-old old Emilly who's waiting backstage to go on next!
0:05:20 > 0:05:23Mum, Mum, 12 minutes past what did they want me?
0:05:23 > 0:05:28- They're running slightly behind... - I am calm!- Calm, calm!
0:05:28 > 0:05:31I can't even lay down. I'll ruin my hair.
0:05:31 > 0:05:34# ..But you've known it the whole time
0:05:34 > 0:05:38# Yeah, you've known it the whole time... #
0:05:38 > 0:05:42- You all right? - Yeah, I'm just stressed out!
0:05:42 > 0:05:48Emilly's lack of confidence has dogged her ever since she first sang to me eight weeks ago!
0:05:49 > 0:05:54# Over the sea and far away she's waiting... #
0:05:54 > 0:05:58She's a bit nervous, but she's bloody good for 15!
0:05:58 > 0:05:59You ready?
0:06:00 > 0:06:03Come on! It's only us, love, it's only us!
0:06:03 > 0:06:08From the very beginning of her sessions with musical director Chris Egan and vocal coach Jo Price,
0:06:08 > 0:06:10Emilly struggled.
0:06:10 > 0:06:13# I get tired... # I'm sorry.
0:06:13 > 0:06:18And with the live show less than a month away, she still couldn't make it through a whole song.
0:06:18 > 0:06:22- I don't know, I just don't enjoy it! - Do you want to take a minute?
0:06:25 > 0:06:29- I'm sweating!- OK. We have a wobble. - I'm officially sweating.
0:06:29 > 0:06:34It's nerves and it's coming up and it's properly interfering.
0:06:34 > 0:06:40I do believe that in front of an audience she will do it, but is that good enough for you guys to go with?
0:06:40 > 0:06:42Have we actually seen her nail it yet?
0:06:42 > 0:06:46The only problem for us is that we have no way of knowing that until show day.
0:07:03 > 0:07:05One, two, three, four!
0:07:05 > 0:07:10# And I can tell just what you want
0:07:10 > 0:07:12# You don't want to be alone... #
0:07:12 > 0:07:14We're ready to go now, Emilly and Mum and Dad.
0:07:14 > 0:07:15Let's do it! Are you ready?
0:07:15 > 0:07:17Let's go! Come on, Emilly, let's go.
0:07:17 > 0:07:19- Yeah, I'm coming!- Put the phone down!
0:07:19 > 0:07:22- After you.- Oh, God!
0:07:27 > 0:07:30# ..And I can't say it's what you know
0:07:30 > 0:07:34# But you've known it the whole time
0:07:34 > 0:07:38# Yeah, you've known it the whole time. #
0:07:52 > 0:07:53Give your mum and dad a hug!
0:07:59 > 0:08:02Jake's got the show off to a cracking start.
0:08:02 > 0:08:05It's great to see his confidence sky high.
0:08:05 > 0:08:07- Fuck off, did you! - You didn't get your voice from me!
0:08:07 > 0:08:12Let's hope our next performer will leave her nerves in the dressing room too!
0:08:14 > 0:08:16Where've your shoes gone?! Where are they?
0:08:16 > 0:08:19- Is this a new look you're trying out?- Yeah!
0:08:19 > 0:08:22OK. Please welcome on stage our youngest performer tonight.
0:08:22 > 0:08:24It's the lovely Emilly Carter. Come on!
0:08:24 > 0:08:30Now, when I first met Emilly, her nerves before performing were almost paralysing.
0:08:30 > 0:08:33But having heard the beauty of her tone and watching her blossom as well,
0:08:33 > 0:08:36I cannot wait to see what she's got in store for us tonight.
0:08:39 > 0:08:43Emilly was first diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome 11 years ago.
0:08:44 > 0:08:47I don't know, a lot of people do know I have it.
0:08:47 > 0:08:51And, like, teachers know I have it and stuff, so at school it's fine,
0:08:51 > 0:08:54and if I'm out of school, just out and about, people don't really ask,
0:08:54 > 0:08:58because they don't want to, they're like embarrassed or a bit freaked out sometimes.
0:09:01 > 0:09:06Her tics include involuntary twitching and uncontrollable falling to the ground.
0:09:08 > 0:09:13Until the age of 4, Emilly's mum Brigitte didn't know what was wrong with her daughter.
0:09:14 > 0:09:20When Emilly was first diagnosed with Tourettes, it was like a great weight had been lifted,
0:09:20 > 0:09:24because she'd actually been given a diagnosis.
0:09:24 > 0:09:27B-B-B-B-itchy Ritchie..
0:09:27 > 0:09:30Whereas the doctors had kept saying she was attention seeking,
0:09:30 > 0:09:33but it was quite obvious she wasn't attention seeking.
0:09:33 > 0:09:36I-I'm pregnant!
0:09:37 > 0:09:40With the live event fast approaching,
0:09:40 > 0:09:43Jo had Emilly singing Eliza Doolittle's Pack Up,
0:09:43 > 0:09:45but I was still worried that her lack of confidence
0:09:45 > 0:09:52would get in the way of her performance, and so I invited Eliza herself along to help.
0:09:55 > 0:09:57Do you want to say hello?
0:09:57 > 0:10:00- Hello.- There you go.
0:10:02 > 0:10:06Did you for quite a while sort of get really nervous on stage then when you performed?
0:10:06 > 0:10:11Yeah, I would totally hide behind my hair, and I'm still trying to get over lots of that,
0:10:11 > 0:10:14and trying to just be myself and be happy to be me, you know.
0:10:14 > 0:10:17Is there any way you could sort of help Emilly?
0:10:17 > 0:10:21I think just knowing that you're good, I think that's just all you need.
0:10:21 > 0:10:24Can I just say you look amazing this evening?
0:10:24 > 0:10:28Do you want to give us a spin? Go on, show them what you're wearing. You look incredible.
0:10:28 > 0:10:31Now a little while ago you got to hang out with Eliza Doolittle herself,
0:10:31 > 0:10:34and she said what you're about to perform is absolutely incredible.
0:10:34 > 0:10:37Your version of it is fantastic. Are you ready to prove her right?
0:10:37 > 0:10:40- Er... Yeah!- Good!
0:10:40 > 0:10:43OK. Can you guys please put your hands together?
0:10:43 > 0:10:47Performing Eliza Doolittle's Pack Up is the fantastic Emilly Carter, come on!
0:10:59 > 0:11:02# I get tired and upset
0:11:02 > 0:11:06# And I'm trying to care a little less
0:11:06 > 0:11:10# When I Google, I only get depressed
0:11:10 > 0:11:14# I was taught to dodge those issues, I was told
0:11:14 > 0:11:16# Don't worry, there's no doubt
0:11:16 > 0:11:20# There's always something to cry about
0:11:20 > 0:11:24# When you're stuck in an angry crowd
0:11:24 > 0:11:28# They don't think what they say before they open their mouth
0:11:28 > 0:11:32# Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
0:11:32 > 0:11:36# And bury them beneath the sea
0:11:36 > 0:11:40# I don't care what the people may say
0:11:40 > 0:11:43# What the people may say about me
0:11:44 > 0:11:47# Pack up your troubles, get your old kit bag
0:11:47 > 0:11:50# Don't worry about the cavalries
0:11:50 > 0:11:54# I don't care what the whisperers say
0:11:54 > 0:11:57# Cos they whisper too loud for me
0:11:59 > 0:12:02# Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
0:12:02 > 0:12:04# Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
0:12:04 > 0:12:08# Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
0:12:08 > 0:12:11# Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
0:12:13 > 0:12:17# Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
0:12:17 > 0:12:20# And bury them beneath the sea... #
0:12:20 > 0:12:24I can't tell you how great it is to see Emilly conquering those nerves
0:12:24 > 0:12:26and giving the performance of a lifetime!
0:12:26 > 0:12:28# ..May say about me... #
0:12:29 > 0:12:33Backstage, things couldn't be more different for 25-year-old Ruth.
0:12:35 > 0:12:36HOARSELY: Hello!
0:12:37 > 0:12:40When Ruth arrived this morning, she could hardly speak.
0:12:40 > 0:12:42Is it that bad?
0:12:42 > 0:12:44Yeah, I can't really even tic.
0:12:44 > 0:12:46Petrol bomb.
0:12:46 > 0:12:47Wankers.
0:12:47 > 0:12:50Ruth was the first person I met with Tourette Syndrome.
0:12:51 > 0:12:53Reggie has a wedgie!
0:12:53 > 0:13:01I was surprised to learn that Ruth only developed her severe verbal and physical tics at the age of 16.
0:13:01 > 0:13:07I was also surprised to learn that Tourette Syndrome can develop at any age and there is no known cure.
0:13:07 > 0:13:09Syphilis.
0:13:11 > 0:13:12Hello!
0:13:12 > 0:13:18In 2006, with a promising career in front of her, Ruth went to university to study music,
0:13:18 > 0:13:24but was forced to quit two years later because of her outbursts in lectures and during performances.
0:13:25 > 0:13:30Four years on and Ruth has regained her confidence and started to sing again.
0:13:31 > 0:13:36Vagina for sale, vagina for sale.
0:13:36 > 0:13:43What happened next was one of the moments that turned our idea of staging an event into a reality.
0:13:43 > 0:13:49# You could be the one who listens to
0:13:49 > 0:13:53# My deepest inquisitions
0:13:53 > 0:13:56# You could never be... #
0:13:56 > 0:14:01She didn't tic at all during her performance and I was amazed.
0:14:01 > 0:14:04- Yeah.- That's great.
0:14:04 > 0:14:08Ka-wow! Playing a part with the son and the holy cunt.
0:14:08 > 0:14:10Chip sticks.
0:14:11 > 0:14:13Steam, madam.
0:14:14 > 0:14:17I can't believe that after all Ruth's been through,
0:14:17 > 0:14:22she may not even be able to show off her wonderful voice tonight because of a sore throat.
0:14:22 > 0:14:24Do you think she's actually going to get to perform?
0:14:24 > 0:14:26I don't know.
0:14:26 > 0:14:28Oh, man!
0:14:31 > 0:14:34# ..Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
0:14:34 > 0:14:37# And bury them beneath the sea
0:14:39 > 0:14:42# I don't care what the people may say
0:14:42 > 0:14:49# What the people may say about me, yeah, yeah, yeah
0:14:53 > 0:14:59# Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet. #
0:15:16 > 0:15:18One more time for Emilly! Come on!
0:15:19 > 0:15:21Where's that shy little girl gone?
0:15:26 > 0:15:28Stop crying, you're embarrassing me!
0:15:29 > 0:15:31Right, let's go.
0:15:31 > 0:15:35What separates a great talent from the pack is the stamp of individuality.
0:15:35 > 0:15:39Please welcome on stage the daddy of our group, it's Steve Ley.
0:15:45 > 0:15:51One of my early recruits was 25-year-old Steve who's been living with Tourettes since the age of 7.
0:15:56 > 0:15:57Fat cunt!
0:15:57 > 0:16:01You get so used to it, fatty cunt, you're not fat...
0:16:04 > 0:16:07That's the one that turns heads in Tesco's.
0:16:07 > 0:16:08HE SINGS SCALES
0:16:08 > 0:16:11From the moment I met him, I loved the tone of Steve's voice.
0:16:11 > 0:16:14HE SINGS SCALES
0:16:14 > 0:16:18But it was really important to challenge all of our performers
0:16:18 > 0:16:21to find the right musical style for each of them.
0:16:21 > 0:16:25So I sent Steve a track that I believed would be a great fit for him.
0:16:25 > 0:16:28# No woman, no cry... #
0:16:28 > 0:16:30No woman, no die.
0:16:30 > 0:16:35# No woman, no cry
0:16:36 > 0:16:39# No woman, no cry... #
0:16:39 > 0:16:43- I don't feel like... - No Woman, No Cry.
0:16:43 > 0:16:45..Shows all the tone in your voice.
0:16:45 > 0:16:48Yeah, I totally felt that as well, to be honest with you.
0:16:48 > 0:16:52The reality of living with Tourette Syndrome really came home to me
0:16:52 > 0:16:55when I spent time with Steve and his girlfriend Iona.
0:16:55 > 0:16:57Take that, you cunt.
0:16:57 > 0:17:00So how did your friends react the first time you brought Steve round?
0:17:00 > 0:17:03- They all know him! Everyone knew Steve before I did!- Cunt.- Right.
0:17:03 > 0:17:08- I don't know how I was the last person to meet him, to be honest, because everyone knows him.- Yeah.
0:17:08 > 0:17:10Mate, I don't even want to talk to you right now,
0:17:10 > 0:17:14I want you to concentrate because I'm crapping myself that you've got a knife in your hand!
0:17:14 > 0:17:16Oh, my God!
0:17:16 > 0:17:19Can I just butter the bread for you?
0:17:21 > 0:17:24Steve grew up in Devon and lives at home with his Mum, Jayne.
0:17:26 > 0:17:30He'd come home and say, "There's something going on in my head and I can't help it."
0:17:30 > 0:17:31Jelly legs!
0:17:34 > 0:17:39When I first found out, I got diagnosed with Tourettes, I was very...
0:17:40 > 0:17:45I didn't know what to think about the actual word, what it meant, like, "What is this?"
0:17:45 > 0:17:49I thought, "Is this what life's all about?" I wasn't excited about life.
0:17:49 > 0:17:54"I'm a kid, I need to be excited, I need to have some drive, I should be having loads of friends,
0:17:54 > 0:17:56"I should be doing all these things."
0:17:58 > 0:18:02At the age of 14, Steve began to play the piano and guitar,
0:18:02 > 0:18:06and immediately found music an escape from his Tourettes.
0:18:09 > 0:18:13Hopefully, I can just relax and just enjoy every moment of it, really.
0:18:13 > 0:18:16Yeah, I'm buzzing about it, I can't wait, I'm so excited!
0:18:16 > 0:18:19I'm just, like, "Fucking come on, come on!"
0:18:24 > 0:18:28Now, if you're not welling up or openly crying by the end of this next song,
0:18:28 > 0:18:30then call a doctor because you're dead inside.
0:18:30 > 0:18:32Now, I had the pleasure of watching this being performed in rehearsals
0:18:32 > 0:18:36and you could feel the mood in the room change as soon as it started.
0:18:36 > 0:18:40Here's Steve Ley's take on the Coldplay classic Trouble.
0:19:05 > 0:19:10# Oh, no, I see
0:19:12 > 0:19:17# A spider web, it's tangled up with me
0:19:17 > 0:19:23# And I lost my head
0:19:24 > 0:19:29# The thought of all the stupid things I said
0:19:48 > 0:19:52# Oh, no, what's this?
0:19:53 > 0:19:58# A spider web and I'm caught in the middle
0:19:59 > 0:20:04# So I turned to run
0:20:04 > 0:20:10# And thought of all the stupid things I've done
0:20:13 > 0:20:17# I never meant to cause you trouble
0:20:20 > 0:20:25# I never meant to do you wrong
0:20:28 > 0:20:33# Oh, if I ever caused you trouble
0:20:35 > 0:20:41# Oh, I never meant to do you harm... #
0:20:45 > 0:20:49Music has such a powerful effect on all of their lives,
0:20:49 > 0:20:53but there's no medical explanation why they don't tic during their performance.
0:20:56 > 0:20:59It's great to see everyone reaching their full potential...
0:21:02 > 0:21:07..but, earlier in the day, things weren't looking so great for Ruth.
0:21:10 > 0:21:11Shut up.
0:21:11 > 0:21:15Five hours before Ruth was due to perform live in front of tonight's audience,
0:21:15 > 0:21:19Jo called her to the studio to rehearse with musical director Chris Egan.
0:21:19 > 0:21:21Stuck.'Doors closing.'
0:21:21 > 0:21:23Broken.
0:21:24 > 0:21:25Crash.
0:21:25 > 0:21:26Die.
0:21:26 > 0:21:28'Second floor.'
0:21:28 > 0:21:32Can you give us the first...just give us a chord on Use Somebody?
0:21:36 > 0:21:38Let's see how you sound, then.
0:21:40 > 0:21:44RUTH SINGS HOARSELY
0:21:53 > 0:21:54I think we should rest it.
0:21:54 > 0:21:57I don't think you should even try and sing during this.
0:21:57 > 0:21:59I think you should rest it.
0:22:07 > 0:22:12- We've just got to keep your voice safe now... - They all look so worried, though.
0:22:14 > 0:22:16- Don't even go there.- Grr!
0:22:16 > 0:22:20You've just got to think about what's best for you, what's best for your voice
0:22:20 > 0:22:25and what give us the best chance of getting you on this stage tonight singing properly.
0:22:25 > 0:22:31You know, I'm not a doctor, but that didn't sound great.
0:22:31 > 0:22:39She doesn't seem to have a voice, it's marginally better than this morning, but not brilliant,
0:22:39 > 0:22:47but I really don't know, I don't know which way this is going to go.
0:22:47 > 0:22:51Right, lady, you don't speak to anyone for the next two hours,
0:22:51 > 0:22:55you're back to your dressing room, you steam, you hot lemon and ginger.
0:22:55 > 0:22:57You don't ask her any questions.
0:22:57 > 0:22:59I don't want anyone speaking to you or making you speak.
0:22:59 > 0:23:01I'll come and see you in an hour.
0:23:01 > 0:23:02I'm drowning.
0:23:03 > 0:23:05It wasn't looking good for Ruth.
0:23:05 > 0:23:09It would be a complete nightmare if she couldn't take her place on stage.
0:23:16 > 0:23:21Six hours later with the show underway, Steve is really rising to the occasion,
0:23:21 > 0:23:23and the audience are loving it.
0:23:28 > 0:23:33# ..A spider web
0:23:33 > 0:23:36# For me
0:23:37 > 0:23:41# A spider web
0:23:41 > 0:23:43# For me
0:23:44 > 0:23:48# A spider web
0:23:48 > 0:23:51# For me... #
0:24:14 > 0:24:16APPLAUSE AND CHEERING
0:24:16 > 0:24:18Thank you.
0:24:22 > 0:24:24- So what did you think of Steve? Come on! Wow! - CHEERING
0:24:30 > 0:24:33Halfway through and I'm really pleased with the show.
0:24:36 > 0:24:38On next is 18-year-old Greg,
0:24:38 > 0:24:40a drummer from Yorkshire!
0:24:40 > 0:24:42Erection!
0:24:42 > 0:24:47Like Steve, Greg has severe physical and verbal tics.
0:24:47 > 0:24:50SCREAMING
0:24:50 > 0:24:54He was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at the age of 6.
0:24:57 > 0:25:02I got bullied, I had problems being in class,
0:25:02 > 0:25:06you know, doing the work, I'd be working, I'd snap my pencil.
0:25:06 > 0:25:09And quite a lot of the time I can, you know,
0:25:09 > 0:25:13shout out really weird things, like, the favourite one at the moment is chicken.
0:25:15 > 0:25:16There's a chicken!
0:25:19 > 0:25:22Greg has been playing the drums for three years.
0:25:25 > 0:25:27Let's see how we can work that out.
0:25:27 > 0:25:32To get him ready for the show, I organised a master class with top drummer Josh McKenzie!
0:25:32 > 0:25:34This is better than being high.
0:25:34 > 0:25:37I've never been high, but I'm sure it's better.
0:25:38 > 0:25:41We're getting high right now, so let's just go deeper.
0:25:41 > 0:25:43Get high on drums!
0:25:45 > 0:25:49It was only when I went home to meet Greg's parents Paul and Kim,
0:25:49 > 0:25:52and they showed me video of Greg when he was younger,
0:25:52 > 0:25:57did I fully appreciate the impact that Tourettes has had on the whole family.
0:26:01 > 0:26:02It started with a cough,
0:26:02 > 0:26:07a persistent cough that wouldn't go, so it was the usual trip to the doctor's,
0:26:07 > 0:26:12is it a bit of asthma? We started to notice the eye tics and the rolling at home,
0:26:12 > 0:26:17but we found out later that he'd been doing the squeaks and twitches at school.
0:26:17 > 0:26:18It's not helping.
0:26:18 > 0:26:21Nothing is helping.
0:26:21 > 0:26:22GREG: It's not exactly pleasant.
0:26:22 > 0:26:25What is it about looking at yourself at that age that makes your tic start?
0:26:25 > 0:26:30- It was bad.- Then?- Really bad!
0:26:36 > 0:26:38- It was a tough time?- Yeah.
0:26:38 > 0:26:43I want to live, not be stuck as the "Ooh, look, the guy with Tourettes!"
0:26:43 > 0:26:48I want to be Greg with Tourettes, on the side, something nobody really cares about.
0:26:48 > 0:26:51HE SHOUTS AND SQUEAKS
0:26:51 > 0:26:54Next up is a man whose flair for the drums knows no bounds.
0:26:54 > 0:26:58Please put your hands together for the fantastic Greg Storey.
0:27:06 > 0:27:10# So glad, so glad, so glad, so glad
0:27:10 > 0:27:13# So glad, get up, so glad, get up
0:27:15 > 0:27:17# Everybody, dance now
0:27:17 > 0:27:18# Let's go
0:27:19 > 0:27:21# Ho!
0:27:21 > 0:27:23# Let's go... #
0:27:23 > 0:27:28Greg's really seized his opportunity and is really pulling out all the stops.
0:27:28 > 0:27:31# ..Let's go! Everybody, dance now... #
0:27:32 > 0:27:37In the two hours since the failed rehearsal, Ruth's voice hasn't improved.
0:27:39 > 0:27:41I'm really sorry.
0:27:44 > 0:27:46But listen, we're not defeated yet!
0:27:46 > 0:27:48We'll keep the boiling water coming.
0:27:48 > 0:27:51And let's just stay positive.
0:27:51 > 0:27:53This could be the time when things don't go wrong,
0:27:53 > 0:27:58this could be the time when things looked like they were going to go wrong but actually they didn't,
0:27:58 > 0:27:59this could be that time.
0:28:02 > 0:28:03Look at me.
0:28:04 > 0:28:06This could be that time.
0:28:06 > 0:28:08Just because things have always gone wrong in the past,
0:28:08 > 0:28:13it doesn't mean that that's what's going to happen now, and we could get you through this.
0:28:31 > 0:28:32Hello.
0:28:32 > 0:28:36With only two-and-a-half hours until Ruth is due on stage, a doctor is called.
0:28:36 > 0:28:40- This is Ruth. - Hello, are you the patient?
0:28:40 > 0:28:42Let's have a look down your throat.
0:28:42 > 0:28:43Say "Ah".
0:28:44 > 0:28:46It's all inflamed, isn't it?
0:28:48 > 0:28:51What we really need, Doctor, is we need Ruth on stage.
0:28:51 > 0:28:54She's been rehearsing for months for a show which we're going to be doing in a few hours' time,
0:28:54 > 0:29:00so we need to try and find a way to get her stage-ready as soon as possible.
0:29:00 > 0:29:02- Now, in a situation like this... - So you want a miracle worker!
0:29:02 > 0:29:04Well, I've heard that you're the man.
0:29:04 > 0:29:07What are the chances of being able to turn it around?
0:29:08 > 0:29:12This is difficult, there's no way I tell you whether or not
0:29:12 > 0:29:14she'll be fit to sing in three or four hours' time.
0:29:14 > 0:29:16There's no way to tell.
0:29:16 > 0:29:20- What do you think...? - She's got laryngitis.
0:29:20 > 0:29:26Keep drinking, drink, drink, drink, gargle, gargle, gargle, gargle and pray.
0:29:48 > 0:29:54This is all I've been thinking about, everything I've been doing has been for this.
0:29:54 > 0:30:02It's not over yet, I think we'll find out a bit closer to show time what's possible, but I don't know...
0:30:02 > 0:30:05I've never been in your position before so I can't tell you what to do,
0:30:05 > 0:30:09but I think the best thing to do is be as positive as possible.
0:30:09 > 0:30:12- Is that the right way to deal with this?- It's the only way to deal with this.
0:30:50 > 0:30:53APPLAUSE AND CHEERING
0:30:56 > 0:30:59One more time for Greg! Come on!
0:31:00 > 0:31:02What are you thinking about?
0:31:02 > 0:31:04You look incredible, fella, look at you with your rock-star hair!
0:31:04 > 0:31:08Yeah, it's a change from the scruff!
0:31:08 > 0:31:12The thing that I can't believe is that you've only been playing drums for about three years now.
0:31:12 > 0:31:17You've got incredible in such a short space of time. How important are the drums to you?
0:31:17 > 0:31:24Everything, if I was to come home one day and my drums weren't in my bedroom, I'd be devastated.
0:31:24 > 0:31:30It's a release, it's fun, it gives me just a time out from my Tourettes.
0:31:30 > 0:31:33Without it, I wouldn't be me, sort of thing.
0:31:33 > 0:31:36I'm chuffed for you, mate, give him a round of applause one more time.
0:31:36 > 0:31:37Thanks.
0:31:38 > 0:31:40Bloody brilliant!
0:31:40 > 0:31:42Argh, I'm being strangled!
0:31:44 > 0:31:47- Brilliant!- You just looked fantastic up there! You really did!
0:31:49 > 0:31:51Hello, Ruth, you all right?
0:31:51 > 0:31:55'Just before the show started, I went to check up on Ruth.'
0:31:56 > 0:32:02Er, Ruth, we're pretty much at show time, and you look incredible by the way!
0:32:02 > 0:32:04You look absolutely amazing, you look proper glam,
0:32:04 > 0:32:08so if this get-up is anything to go by, you've made a decision, right?
0:32:08 > 0:32:09Yeah, I want to do it.
0:32:09 > 0:32:11You think that you can definitely deliver, then?
0:32:11 > 0:32:13You can definitely hear my voice now,
0:32:13 > 0:32:15so it's definitely much stronger than before,
0:32:15 > 0:32:18and I think once I do this I probably won't be able to speak for the next couple of days,
0:32:18 > 0:32:20- but I'm good to go for that.- Yeah.
0:32:20 > 0:32:23I'm just really happy to see you smiling again.
0:32:23 > 0:32:26- Yeah.- And to see that you're willing to get out there and do this.
0:32:26 > 0:32:28So are you going to do some warm-ups now?
0:32:28 > 0:32:30- I tell you what, I'll leave you to it...- Fuck off.
0:32:30 > 0:32:34And the next time I see you will be when I'm introducing you on stage.
0:32:34 > 0:32:37- Can I have a hug, please? - Yeah, of course!
0:32:37 > 0:32:40- I'm really chuffed that you're doing this. Good luck, all right. - Cheers, Wedgie.
0:32:40 > 0:32:43- Cheers, Reggie.- And I still get called Wedgie - amazing!- Love it!
0:32:43 > 0:32:45Right, lady...
0:32:45 > 0:32:49VOCAL EXERCISES
0:33:01 > 0:33:04The first time I heard Ruth sing, I was shocked into silence,
0:33:04 > 0:33:08because Ruth on stage delivers so much passion with every word.
0:33:08 > 0:33:10Now, today, she's been fighting to speak, let alone sing,
0:33:10 > 0:33:15as she's suffering from a really sore throat but like the trouper she is, she's insisted on performing.
0:33:15 > 0:33:19Please give a huge welcome to Ruth Ojadi.
0:33:19 > 0:33:20CHEERING
0:33:53 > 0:33:56# Ooh, baby, don't you know I suffer?
0:33:56 > 0:34:00# Ooh, baby, can you hear me moan?

0:34:05 > 0:34:07# How long before you tell the truth?
0:34:07 > 0:34:11# I thought I was a fool for no-one
0:34:11 > 0:34:15# But, ooh, baby, I'm a fool for you
0:34:15 > 0:34:19# You're the queen of the superficial
0:34:19 > 0:34:22# How long before you tell the truth?
0:34:22 > 0:34:30# Ooh, yeah, you set my soul alight
0:34:30 > 0:34:37# Ooh, yeah, you set my soul alight
0:34:37 > 0:34:41# Glaciers melting in the dead of night
0:34:41 > 0:34:45# And the superstars sucked into the supermassive

0:35:50 > 0:35:53# Supermassive black hole! #
0:36:01 > 0:36:07I am absolutely thrilled for Ruth! What a brilliant performance!
0:36:07 > 0:36:09Really well done, I'm really pleased for you.
0:36:09 > 0:36:12- Thank you, Jo! - Really pleased for you!- Thank you.
0:36:12 > 0:36:17Now, tonight's all about incredible performers and this next man is no exception.
0:36:17 > 0:36:21Tom Carpenter was first diagnosed with Tourettes when he was 12 years old,
0:36:21 > 0:36:24but there was no way he was letting that get between him and his music.
0:36:27 > 0:36:33When I first met Tom, he was obsessed with looking like a well-known Canadian jazz singer.
0:36:33 > 0:36:37I wear suits that are like what the sort of stuff that Michael Buble wears.
0:36:37 > 0:36:44Obviously, I like the little lapel down here, that's quite showbizzy and sort of crooner style, but...
0:36:47 > 0:36:52But it wasn't just the look, he even copied Buble's vocal style.
0:36:52 > 0:36:56TOM SINGS IN THE STYLE OF MICHAEL BUBLE
0:36:56 > 0:37:00I set Jo the task of de-Bublising Tom.
0:37:00 > 0:37:04I liked his voice, but he desperately needed to find his own individuality.
0:37:04 > 0:37:09- They're all Michael Buble songs! - Not all of them.
0:37:09 > 0:37:12They're not all originally Michael Buble, though, are they?
0:37:12 > 0:37:18How would you feel, Tom, if we banned his name in all sessions
0:37:18 > 0:37:21and if I asked you not to listen to him?
0:37:22 > 0:37:24# I know there's something beyond them
0:37:24 > 0:37:27# I don't see what I can feel... #
0:37:27 > 0:37:30But that was easier said than done.
0:37:30 > 0:37:31# ..If vision is the only validation
0:37:31 > 0:37:34# Then most of my life isn't real... #
0:37:34 > 0:37:36Right, stop! That was all Buble!
0:37:36 > 0:37:37# Validation!
0:37:37 > 0:37:39# My name's Buble! #
0:37:39 > 0:37:42Sing it again, try and sing it differently.
0:37:42 > 0:37:46VOCAL EXERCISES
0:37:46 > 0:37:52After a lot of hard work, Tom finally started to find his own voice.
0:37:52 > 0:37:56To boost his self-belief, I wanted Tom to meet Aloe Blacc,
0:37:56 > 0:38:01the singer-songwriter behind the track I wanted Tom to perform at our live show.
0:38:01 > 0:38:03# It's inside the bottle
0:38:03 > 0:38:06# It's inside the bottle
0:38:06 > 0:38:10# I had a dollar but... #
0:38:10 > 0:38:12Yeah!
0:38:13 > 0:38:15I saw you in the...
0:38:17 > 0:38:19I saw you... Oh, my God!
0:38:19 > 0:38:21Tom, you've been working on this song for so long,
0:38:21 > 0:38:25I figured, why not get someone who could give you some advice when it comes to performing it,
0:38:25 > 0:38:28- the man who wrote it, Aloe Blacc. - How are you doing?- Great, thanks.
0:38:28 > 0:38:31The most important thing is to be yourself,
0:38:31 > 0:38:35to sing the songs that you feel represent you.
0:38:35 > 0:38:37- Let's not hear someone else's voice when you sing.- That...
0:38:37 > 0:38:39Yes, that was unique.
0:38:39 > 0:38:43- That was something that I think is very you, OK?- Yeah.- Stick with that.
0:38:46 > 0:38:52When I was first diagnosed, Mum always used to say "You'll wake up tomorrow and it'll be gone,"
0:38:52 > 0:38:54and I'd wake up and I was still the same.
0:38:54 > 0:38:58I've got a whole range of tics that you'll probably notice throughout the day.
0:38:58 > 0:39:03I keep going "Uh", like that, I've had that for about two years.
0:39:03 > 0:39:11- My blinking is like when I've got too much energy, I just blink loads. - OK.- Tires me out loads.
0:39:11 > 0:39:14I would like to have a day when I don't have to have Tourettes.
0:39:14 > 0:39:17- Have you ever had a day where there's no tics?- No.
0:39:17 > 0:39:25You never have that, never, never, I can't remember the last day I didn't get tired from having tics.
0:39:27 > 0:39:31What separates a great talent from the pack is a stamp of individuality
0:39:31 > 0:39:34and the delivery of this next track proves Tom has it in spades.
0:39:34 > 0:39:38Taking a song you definitely know and truly owning it, this is Tom Carpenter.
0:39:42 > 0:39:47# I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar, that's what I need, hey, hey
0:39:47 > 0:39:52# Well, I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar, that's what I need, hey, hey
0:39:52 > 0:39:56# Said I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar, that's what I need
0:39:56 > 0:40:01# And if I share with you my story, would you share your dollar with me?
0:40:01 > 0:40:07# Bad times are coming and I reap what I don't sow, hey, hey
0:40:07 > 0:40:11# Well, let me tell you something, all that glitter ain't gold, hey, hey
0:40:11 > 0:40:15# It's been a long old trouble, a long old troublesome road
0:40:15 > 0:40:21# And I'm looking for somebody to come and help me carry this load
0:40:21 > 0:40:26# Well, I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar, that's what I need, hey, hey
0:40:26 > 0:40:30# Well, I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar, that's what I need
0:40:31 > 0:40:36# Well, I don't know if I'm walking on solid ground
0:40:36 > 0:40:40# Cos everything around me is falling down
0:40:40 > 0:40:48# And all I want is for someone to help me
0:40:48 > 0:40:52# Well, I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar, that's what I need, hey, hey
0:40:52 > 0:40:57# Well, I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar, that's what I need, hey, hey
0:40:57 > 0:41:02# Said I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar, that's what I need
0:41:02 > 0:41:06# And if I share with you my story, would you share your dollar with me?
0:41:06 > 0:41:09# Come on, share your dollar with me
0:41:09 > 0:41:11# Go ahead, share your dollar with me
0:41:11 > 0:41:16# Share your dollar, share your dollar, share your dollar with me
0:41:16 > 0:41:21# Come on, share your dollar, share your dollar with me
0:41:21 > 0:41:28# I need, I need, I need a dollar! #
0:41:28 > 0:41:31CHEERING
0:41:34 > 0:41:36I'm thrilled.
0:41:36 > 0:41:40Each of the guys have performed brilliantly on their own.
0:41:40 > 0:41:43But our show has always needed a group finale.
0:41:49 > 0:41:54Four weeks ago, I put together a list of possible songs to try out with Chris and Jo.
0:41:55 > 0:41:57Do you know this one?
0:41:57 > 0:42:01# I've seen you ride around town with the girl I love
0:42:01 > 0:42:03# And I'm, like, forget you. #
0:42:06 > 0:42:06Cunt twat.
0:42:06 > 0:42:12I like it, but it's just been played so much that it's killed it.
0:42:12 > 0:42:13Road kill.
0:42:15 > 0:42:17- Elbow. - Elbow.
0:42:19 > 0:42:20Holy cow!
0:42:24 > 0:42:26Not keen on that one?
0:42:26 > 0:42:27Big notes!
0:42:27 > 0:42:34# Watch the world come alive
0:42:34 > 0:42:41# Watch the world come alive tonight
0:42:41 > 0:42:43# Stay close to me... #
0:42:47 > 0:42:50It was a lot harder than I'd imagined.
0:42:50 > 0:42:54I hadn't thought about the fact they'd all tic during the quiet sections of songs.
0:42:55 > 0:42:56Penis!
0:42:56 > 0:42:59What sounded best to you guys? What did you like most?
0:42:59 > 0:43:03I don't like the Greatest Day really, or... I don't know...
0:43:03 > 0:43:05What was it about that song that you don't like?
0:43:05 > 0:43:09- We were saying that the actual feeling of the song...- Greatest Day?
0:43:09 > 0:43:12Yeah, Greatest Day, was just too...
0:43:12 > 0:43:13< Sympathetic?
0:43:13 > 0:43:18Yeah, yeah, "Look at us we've got Tourettes, we want loads of sympathy."
0:43:18 > 0:43:21When I first saw the title, the first thing I thought was, "Oh, look, bless them"!
0:43:21 > 0:43:25Whenever I hear that, it rubs me up the wrong way a little bit,
0:43:25 > 0:43:28- because I think... - RUTH: Rub it the right way, then!
0:43:30 > 0:43:31If I could, I would, Ruth!
0:43:31 > 0:43:33So, guys, what are we going to do?
0:43:34 > 0:43:37Because I haven't got a suggestion at the moment.
0:43:39 > 0:43:41Even though they weren't keen,
0:43:41 > 0:43:46I still thought Take That's Greatest Day would be the best song to show off their vocal abilities...
0:43:51 > 0:43:55..so two weeks before the show we tried again.
0:43:55 > 0:43:58# Today this could be
0:43:58 > 0:44:03# The greatest day of our lives
0:44:03 > 0:44:05# Stay close to me
0:44:05 > 0:44:12# Watch the world come alive tonight
0:44:12 > 0:44:14# Stay close to me... #
0:44:22 > 0:44:24Cool.
0:44:24 > 0:44:26We need to get a hold of that outro.
0:44:26 > 0:44:30- It's kind of dying on its arse a bit! - Are you not happy with it, Jo?- No!
0:44:30 > 0:44:32- You're not?- No! I'm not!
0:44:34 > 0:44:39It was pretty obvious that we were getting nowhere, so I decided to find a new song.
0:44:39 > 0:44:44But we'd run out of rehearsal time and the only chance of trying it out all together,
0:44:44 > 0:44:46was the day before the show.
0:44:53 > 0:44:57Getting the right song choice for them wasn't the only thing worrying me!
0:44:59 > 0:45:03I was also worried about how they would cope performing together,
0:45:03 > 0:45:07on the stage, in front of a big audience.
0:45:09 > 0:45:11It's a set and a half, isn't it?
0:45:11 > 0:45:13Pretty soon, you lot are going to be stood on here.
0:45:13 > 0:45:16I spend a lot of my time in rooms like this
0:45:16 > 0:45:19- in front of hundreds of people doing this sort of thing. - Stripping. Bullshit.
0:45:19 > 0:45:24It's quite normal for me. Is this going to be strange or are you looking forward to it?
0:45:24 > 0:45:26- I'm actually really excited.- Yeah?
0:45:26 > 0:45:29It'll be like playing a gig at home, but not...
0:45:29 > 0:45:31With your penis out!
0:45:31 > 0:45:35I'm sure that you don't have that many people in your bedroom when you're playing your drums.
0:45:35 > 0:45:37- No, not in my bedroom! - Unless you're having a wank!
0:45:37 > 0:45:40- It's like playing a gig with my other band, but just on a bigger scale. - Yeah.
0:45:40 > 0:45:42If I think about it that way, I won't get as nervous.
0:45:42 > 0:45:44Lovin' it, lovin' it, lovin' it.
0:45:44 > 0:45:46It's a bit more intimate than I thought. All right, Mum?
0:45:46 > 0:45:50What about that spotlight? It's going be on you when you're singing later on.
0:45:50 > 0:45:52- That spotlight will be on you. - You cunt.
0:45:52 > 0:45:55I hope you fucking die, you twat!
0:45:55 > 0:45:56Thank you.
0:45:56 > 0:45:59I took them to the stage to inspire them,
0:45:59 > 0:46:01but as they set off each other's tics,
0:46:01 > 0:46:06it only reinforced how difficult it would be to get them to perform together.
0:46:06 > 0:46:09So in the not too distant future, you lot will be on this stage,
0:46:09 > 0:46:11there's going to be a big audience...
0:46:11 > 0:46:15There's going to be Steve probably licking my face. And you're going to have to sing.
0:46:15 > 0:46:18Is that something we're all looking forward to?
0:46:18 > 0:46:20Can't wait!
0:46:20 > 0:46:21Yeah.
0:46:21 > 0:46:25- This is a massive opportunity! - Let's get out of here, Emilly!
0:46:25 > 0:46:28- Dirty cunt! - No, you are!
0:46:29 > 0:46:34But at least I had finally made a decision on a song for them all to sing,
0:46:34 > 0:46:37Emeli Sande's Next To Me!
0:46:38 > 0:46:41Reggie's got a wedgie! Who's sat over there?
0:46:41 > 0:46:43Ruth fancies Reggie.
0:46:43 > 0:46:45I'll do three chords...
0:46:45 > 0:46:47You're all gay, aren't you?
0:46:47 > 0:46:49If you hold that...
0:46:49 > 0:46:52Can we address the harmony?
0:46:54 > 0:46:56You cunt.
0:47:08 > 0:47:13They kept setting each other's tics off and it wasn't looking good.
0:47:13 > 0:47:18Maybe I had just pushed them too far and simply left it too late!
0:47:18 > 0:47:22In just over 24 hours, the audience would be arriving.
0:47:26 > 0:47:28What have we realistically got?
0:47:28 > 0:47:33We've got an hour to rehearse it with them, 20 minutes with the band and 20 minutes on set.
0:47:33 > 0:47:35That's an hour and 40 minutes.
0:47:35 > 0:47:40We're not being negative, but do you know what that is? That's a hard gig.
0:47:40 > 0:47:42I mean, it could be quite full on.
0:47:42 > 0:47:45- We'll be fine, we'll be fine! - JO LAUGHS
0:47:45 > 0:47:51As they walk to the stage, I've got absolute faith they'll pull this off.
0:47:51 > 0:47:55After three months of hard work, this is the ultimate challenge for all of us.
0:47:55 > 0:47:58- Utter cunt. - Shut up.
0:47:58 > 0:47:59Fuck off.
0:47:59 > 0:48:03Tonight they've all proved they've got individual talent,
0:48:03 > 0:48:08and I hope their newfound confidence will give them the belief they need to pull off the finale.
0:48:12 > 0:48:13Gonorrhoea.
0:48:13 > 0:48:17OK, so you've met all our incredibly talented bunch.
0:48:17 > 0:48:19Guys, let's go.
0:48:19 > 0:48:23You've heard for yourselves what I've known for months, that they really do have something special,
0:48:23 > 0:48:27so you could be forgiven for assuming that that's the end of the night, but no!
0:48:27 > 0:48:28You cunt, I'll kill you!
0:48:28 > 0:48:31We set these guys one more challenge, to create a supergroup,
0:48:31 > 0:48:34and they've only had one day to rehearse this number.
0:48:34 > 0:48:38So, for one night only, here they all are with Emile Sande's Next To Me.
0:48:49 > 0:48:52# You won't find him drinking at the tables
0:48:53 > 0:48:57# Rolling dice and staying out till three
0:48:58 > 0:49:03# You won't ever find him being unfaithful
0:49:03 > 0:49:07# You will find him, you'll find him next to me
0:49:09 > 0:49:12# You won't find him trying to chase the devil
0:49:13 > 0:49:18# For money, power, for fame, out of grief
0:49:18 > 0:49:23# You won't ever find him where the rest go
0:49:23 > 0:49:27# You will find him, you'll find him next to me
0:49:27 > 0:49:33# Next to me, oooh

0:49:43 > 0:49:47# You will find him, you'll find him next to me
0:49:49 > 0:49:53# When the money's spent and all my friends have vanished
0:49:53 > 0:49:59# And I can't seem to find no help or love for free
0:49:59 > 0:50:03# I know there's no need for me to panic
0:50:03 > 0:50:08# Cos I'll find him, I'll find him next to me
0:50:09 > 0:50:13# When the skies are grey and all the doors are closing
0:50:14 > 0:50:19# And the rising pressure makes it hard to breathe
0:50:19 > 0:50:24# Well, all I need is a hand to stop the tears from falling
0:50:24 > 0:50:29# You will find him, you'll find him next to me
0:50:29 > 0:50:34# Next to me, oooh
0:50:34 > 0:50:39# Next to me, oooh...
0:50:39 > 0:50:44# Next to me, oooh
0:50:44 > 0:50:48# You will find him, you'll find him next to me
0:50:49 > 0:50:53# When the sun and all the rain has gone
0:50:54 > 0:50:59# When we spoilt the land and dried up all the sea
0:51:00 > 0:51:04# When everyone has lost their heads around us
0:51:04 > 0:51:08# You will find him, you'll find him next to me
0:51:08 > 0:51:14# Next to me, oooh
0:51:14 > 0:51:19# Next to me, oooh...
0:51:19 > 0:51:24# Next to me, oooh

0:51:34 > 0:51:39# Next to me, oooh...
0:51:39 > 0:51:44# Next to me, oooh
0:51:44 > 0:51:48# You will find him, you'll find him next to me
0:51:48 > 0:51:53# Next to me, oooh
0:51:53 > 0:51:59# Next to me, oooh...
0:51:59 > 0:52:04# Next to me, oooh
0:52:04 > 0:52:08# You will find him, you'll find him next to me
0:52:08 > 0:52:14# You will find him, you'll find him next to me...
0:52:14 > 0:52:18# You will find him, you'll find him next to me
0:52:19 > 0:52:23# You will find him, you'll find him next to me. #

0:52:53 > 0:52:55Make some noise for Emilly and her bare feet.

0:52:57 > 0:53:03Ruth and her new voice... and Steve without a hat finally!
0:53:06 > 0:53:09I am so proud of what they've all achieved tonight,
0:53:09 > 0:53:12proof that talent can overcome Tourettes.
0:53:12 > 0:53:15- It was amazing.- Thank you! - Were you happy with today?- Yeah!
0:53:15 > 0:53:18You were properly having the time of your life!
0:53:18 > 0:53:21# ..Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
0:53:21 > 0:53:24# And bury them beneath the sea... #
0:53:24 > 0:53:28Emilly is no longer the shy girl I first met.
0:53:28 > 0:53:31She oozed confidence out there on stage.
0:53:37 > 0:53:40My secret weapon!
0:53:40 > 0:53:43# ..I can tell you... #
0:53:43 > 0:53:46Jake looked and sounded like a proper little pop star!
0:53:46 > 0:53:48He really performed for the crowd.

0:54:21 > 0:54:23I'm so sorry! It got caught!
0:54:23 > 0:54:26Can I have a hug to cancel that one out?

0:55:02 > 0:55:04- You've got to do something!- Now I've got to believe it, haven't I?
0:55:04 > 0:55:07But you've got to do something with it. If you don't I'll take it personally!
0:55:10 > 0:55:13Oh, yeah! So impressed with you, lady.
0:55:13 > 0:55:15So impressed with you.
0:55:16 > 0:55:20As for Ruth, I really hope she can finally put behind her the dark days
0:55:20 > 0:55:22of having to quit university!
0:55:23 > 0:55:29She was the original inspiration for putting the event on and she really came up trumps.
0:55:29 > 0:55:31At one point today I didn't think you were going to get on stage.
0:55:31 > 0:55:35- I know, I saw it in your face. - I was like, "No! She's not going to not perform!"
0:55:35 > 0:55:39But you did it and you did brilliantly! And well done, come here!

0:55:45 > 0:55:51The way they all came together at the end blew me away. It was truly amazing...
0:55:51 > 0:55:53and not a tic in sight!
0:55:54 > 0:55:59# ..Next to me, oooh
0:55:59 > 0:56:04# You will find him, you'll find him next to me... #
0:56:04 > 0:56:07These aren't just your average performers,
0:56:07 > 0:56:11these are people who have been through a lot to get to this stage,
0:56:11 > 0:56:14so when I came off and I saw Jo and she was bouncing around, it felt special,
0:56:14 > 0:56:19because we've not just watched a bundle of great performers...
0:56:19 > 0:56:26what we've seen if people morph, change and become amazing in front of our eyes.
0:56:26 > 0:56:31And being a part of that has been a real privilege, and today feels special
0:56:31 > 0:56:33because it's not just another day at the office.
