0:00:02 > 0:00:05- My name is Abby Hensel.- And I'm Brittany Hensel. We are 22 years old.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08People have been curious about us since we were born

0:00:08 > 0:00:09for obvious reasons.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11We're identical twins who are conjoined.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14But our parents never let us use that as an excuse.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17While life as a conjoined twin sometimes has its challenges...

0:00:20 > 0:00:22..we were raised to believe

0:00:22 > 0:00:25that we could do anything we wanted, so we do.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27We like to think that the most amazing thing about us is,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30we are just like everyone else. We really are normal.

0:00:30 > 0:00:34- But I'm definitely more normal than Brit.- Whatever!

0:00:34 > 0:00:38Anyway, this is the story of our normal, regular life.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Well, our normal, conjoined life.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42This is our life.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44We are going to Italy!

0:00:46 > 0:00:48We are travelling with our friends, Erin and Becca.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51We decided to go on a trip after graduation.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54I'm so excited for pasta.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56I had always wanted to go on a trip to Italy.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59It's also a place that Erin has never been.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03- What are you looking forward to most? - Being outside.- Peeing outside?!

0:01:03 > 0:01:06- Being outside.- Oh, being outside!

0:01:06 > 0:01:09We decided that we would go to Venice first for three days

0:01:09 > 0:01:12and then the last two days in Rome.

0:01:12 > 0:01:17- We should practise some Italian. Buon giorno.- Buon giorno.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22Thank you.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26I think it's right up there.

0:01:26 > 0:01:27Let's go.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31- Hi.- Hi.- We have two rooms.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Yes.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42- Oh, wow!- This is good. - I want to look at this.

0:01:42 > 0:01:47- You also have a beautiful terrace. - Oh, my gosh!

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Our hotel was beautiful. Very classy.

0:01:50 > 0:01:55It was right off of one of the ports in San Marco, so it was kind of cool.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Well, let the adventure begin.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01- Or continue.- Or continue.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10When we first got there, we got settled in the hotel

0:02:10 > 0:02:12and then thought it would be fun to do a gondola ride.

0:02:12 > 0:02:17- Are you excited about the gondola? - Yes, I'm very excited. Are you?

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Yes, I am. It will be fun.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21We love doing our make-up.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24It's definitely our favourite part of the day.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27It's something we have down to a routine.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31It's not something we discuss or talk about,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34we just grab and go and get it done quick.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37- Are you guys almost ready?- Yes. I just need to blow-dry my hair.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41It's going to blow up.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44Just go quick.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50Watching them do their hair fascinates me.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54Brittany will start doing her hair and Abby will start adjusting it

0:02:54 > 0:02:58and it's like, "How did you know that's what she's going for?"

0:03:01 > 0:03:04I can't even always figure out how to do my own hair symmetrically

0:03:04 > 0:03:07so I don't know how they do each other's so well.

0:03:14 > 0:03:15OK, let's go.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19- Ready for the gondola?- Keys?- Keys.

0:03:23 > 0:03:24Here we go.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27- This will be fun. - This is going to be super great.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29- Hi.- Hi.- Hello.

0:03:33 > 0:03:34This is gorgeous.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39This is a great way to see Venice

0:03:39 > 0:03:43because there are so many hidden alleys and stuff like that.

0:03:51 > 0:03:53This will be in their family photo album.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Here we go.

0:03:56 > 0:04:00We held up umbrellas to kind of shield from the cameras.

0:04:00 > 0:04:05Obviously, when we are filming, it has more of a draw to it

0:04:05 > 0:04:07so we use umbrellas as blockers.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09This is so great.

0:04:12 > 0:04:17- Yes.- Should I?- Yes. - No.- You can do it.- Yes.- Do it!

0:04:17 > 0:04:18You can do it.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21It's only for a picture.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23Welcome to my office!

0:04:23 > 0:04:26Spaghetti!

0:04:27 > 0:04:28Smile!

0:04:33 > 0:04:36- This is so great. - This is really cool right here.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38I can't believe people live here.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41The gondola ride was really fun.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44It was actually really unique. It was a great experience.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46It's a neat little ride.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49- Prego.- Prego.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01On our second day in Venice,

0:05:01 > 0:05:04we thought it would be fun to do a cooking lesson.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09We had to take a ferry to get on to the correct island.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14And then we walked down to her house.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17This is absolutely beautiful.

0:05:17 > 0:05:19- Ready to cook?- Let's cook.

0:05:21 > 0:05:22Wow!

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Oh, my gosh!

0:05:26 > 0:05:29- Hello.- Hi.- Nice to meet you.

0:05:29 > 0:05:31Merica was the cooking teacher

0:05:31 > 0:05:34and she owns her own catering business

0:05:34 > 0:05:37and she runs a bed-and-breakfast in her home.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39Very good.

0:05:39 > 0:05:43It was really great. It was super, super Italian.

0:05:43 > 0:05:51OK, so we are going to do some typical pasta dish, Italian.

0:05:51 > 0:05:55And then we do the traditional tiramisu because I know you like it.

0:05:55 > 0:05:56Yes!

0:05:56 > 0:05:58Some olive oil.

0:05:58 > 0:06:02OK. What you can start to do is squeeze this.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07- Oh, wow!- OK.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09Just try and squeeze it now.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13- Oh!- OK.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15So you don't want to over-squeeze it.

0:06:15 > 0:06:17You have to get dirty!

0:06:18 > 0:06:20Incorporate a little weight

0:06:20 > 0:06:24and you will see that, little by little, it will hold together.

0:06:28 > 0:06:33You look like you've made this all your life. You are doing very well.

0:06:33 > 0:06:36- Thank you.- OK.

0:06:37 > 0:06:39- Too much?- Maybe.

0:06:41 > 0:06:44The hardest thing was probably making the gnocchi.

0:06:45 > 0:06:49- The idea is to roll like that... - Oh, wow!

0:06:49 > 0:06:51..to make a kind of scoop.

0:06:53 > 0:06:55This is the difficult part.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58- I control the right side. - I control the left side.

0:06:58 > 0:06:59We are very coordinated.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01We typically don't have a problem.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03The gnocchi was hard for all of us.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05It was crazy.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08This is very flat. This is like a steak!

0:07:08 > 0:07:11We made a joke out of it and moved on to the next thing.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13Very good.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15You keep going.

0:07:15 > 0:07:19The girls were better with the complex, multitasking things

0:07:19 > 0:07:23because they are so used to multitasking all the time.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25That was kind of fun

0:07:25 > 0:07:28that we each had our own thing that we were really good at.

0:07:28 > 0:07:29We can do this.

0:07:31 > 0:07:36I think the best part of cooking was we made it a team effort

0:07:36 > 0:07:37and we all did a part of it.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41Look how beautiful it is.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44This has to be cold, espresso coffee.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46Very concentrated.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49- The easiest thing was probably making the tiramisu.- Yeah.

0:07:49 > 0:07:52You can't go wrong with dipping a cookie in

0:07:52 > 0:07:55and then placing them on top of each other.

0:07:56 > 0:07:58And then we create chocolate shave.

0:08:03 > 0:08:05Brittany cut Abby's finger

0:08:05 > 0:08:08when they were shaving chocolate for the tiramisu.

0:08:08 > 0:08:12That was the first time I had seen one of them hurt each other.

0:08:12 > 0:08:15They were still positive about it. They handled it well.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18They washed it off real quick and jumped right back in there.

0:08:20 > 0:08:21OK.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23I'm starving.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29Thank you.

0:08:29 > 0:08:30Bon appetit.

0:08:40 > 0:08:44- The food was incredible.- Phenomenal. We enjoyed it so much.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47The ravioli is still my favourite.

0:08:47 > 0:08:49That's really good.

0:08:49 > 0:08:53- I'm really picky.- And I'm not. I like most things.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56- I don't like it.- Really?- No.

0:08:56 > 0:08:59I could probably eat kids' food all the time.

0:08:59 > 0:09:05I like a lot of meat and potatoes and home-made food and stuff like that.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09There's always something that each of us likes better together,

0:09:09 > 0:09:12so we just compromise.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14- Tiramisu.- Here we go!

0:09:14 > 0:09:18- Oh, my goodness!- Wow!

0:09:19 > 0:09:22Typically, we share a plate, just because we don't need to eat

0:09:22 > 0:09:26two full servings because our stomachs are not two full sizes.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28They are just a little bit smaller.

0:09:28 > 0:09:32But she gave us two helpings of tiramisu.

0:09:32 > 0:09:35- And you really can't pass that up. - So we had two!

0:09:40 > 0:09:42- That's really good.- Like heaven.

0:09:45 > 0:09:48They both love sweets so that was funny

0:09:48 > 0:09:50because they'll eat one meal or one glass of water,

0:09:50 > 0:09:54but when the dessert comes out, they'll both take their own.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56I could eat tiramisu every day. Every day.

0:09:59 > 0:10:03- Let's toast, I suppose.- A toast to being good chefs and having fun.

0:10:19 > 0:10:24So, Merica told us that her husband is a glass-blower,

0:10:24 > 0:10:27and the business had been in their family for centuries,

0:10:27 > 0:10:30um, and we thought it would be really cool to see that.

0:10:30 > 0:10:36Merica's cousin, Mario, met us and walked us over there

0:10:36 > 0:10:41and just kind of gave us a good tour of how it was actually made.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44All the things you see here - those are ovens. OK?

0:10:44 > 0:10:47So they put silicium in here - they put sand in here -

0:10:47 > 0:10:51and it gets to a certain temperature and then they can work it.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53One of the men... You see?

0:10:53 > 0:10:54Oh, my gosh.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56Wow.

0:10:56 > 0:10:57That's so cool!

0:10:57 > 0:11:02Because he uses the fire and his hand to model it.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05Oh...my...gosh!

0:11:07 > 0:11:09That's so cool.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12We're super-artsy, so that stuff was super-fun to us.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14And, like, fascinating, how they make it.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16We loved to learn how they make it. It seemed just so cool.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18Oh, my gosh.

0:11:20 > 0:11:21Wow!

0:11:23 > 0:11:25That's awesome!

0:11:25 > 0:11:28After they make the vase - they should have put it here.

0:11:28 > 0:11:32These are pieces of chandeliers we have.

0:11:32 > 0:11:35This oven with the numbers? Those are the colours.

0:11:35 > 0:11:36The touristy stuff is super-fun,

0:11:36 > 0:11:40but I feel like you get more of the cultural experience

0:11:40 > 0:11:43when you are out of the tourist area.

0:11:43 > 0:11:47So it was super-neat to get, like, a behind-the-scene, um, tour.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51All these are pieces of glass that we don't use any more.

0:11:51 > 0:11:56The broken ones. You could re-use it, but the quality goes down.

0:11:56 > 0:11:59OK, we can go on, I think.

0:11:59 > 0:12:04We are this huge, loud family!

0:12:04 > 0:12:06After taking our tour through the glass factory,

0:12:06 > 0:12:09Mario took us to the actual shop that they have

0:12:09 > 0:12:13where they displayed all of their pieces that they have for sell.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18It was great that we could see the finished product.

0:12:18 > 0:12:22- You see that it has, actually, some, like, bleeding.- Ew. Yeah.- Amethyst.

0:12:23 > 0:12:27- This is awesome!- I'm happy you like it, actually.- I love it!

0:12:29 > 0:12:30I love the black and white.

0:12:30 > 0:12:32It was really nice.

0:12:32 > 0:12:36It was great of him to just, um,... jump in and show us around, like that.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39And he was our age, so it was kinda cool.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41You did a great job. High five.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43- Do you high-five here? - Not that much.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47- You pound it?- Sometimes.

0:12:47 > 0:12:51- Yeah!- Sometimes, yeah. - Whoa!- Cool, actually!

0:12:51 > 0:12:53I hope it was fun.

0:12:53 > 0:12:55It was good fun, thank you so much!

0:13:02 > 0:13:07We spent about three days in Venice and then we took the train to Rome.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09So we had to haul all our luggage to the train station.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Almost there!

0:13:11 > 0:13:12Almost there!

0:13:12 > 0:13:15It was so hot! You just want to die!

0:13:15 > 0:13:20- Come on, muscles! Go, Erin, go! - We should have packed lighter.

0:13:25 > 0:13:27The train ride was four hours from Venice to Rome

0:13:27 > 0:13:29but it did not feel like that.

0:13:29 > 0:13:30It was nice to just sit and relax.

0:13:30 > 0:13:34We slept some of the way and just kind of veged.

0:13:34 > 0:13:37What do you think Rome's going to look like?

0:13:37 > 0:13:38I don't know.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40You know what they say though...

0:13:40 > 0:13:43- When in Rome...- When in Rome...

0:13:43 > 0:13:46..do as the Romans.

0:13:46 > 0:13:50- That's the Egyptians, but it's OK.- Oh!

0:13:50 > 0:13:52Oh...! Epic fail.

0:13:53 > 0:13:55Let's go get gelato!

0:13:55 > 0:13:58- Finally!- Can't wait!

0:13:58 > 0:14:02So when we got to Rome we got all settled

0:14:02 > 0:14:06and checked into our hotel and we said we wanted a gelato.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09Because that's like what Italy's known for.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12- Left or right?- Straight!- Straight!

0:14:12 > 0:14:14- You know where it is? - I think it's just down here.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18Then we made it to Giolitti, the gelato shop.

0:14:18 > 0:14:19We order from here.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24- Hello!- How are you?- Hello.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27The gelato place we went to, they had so many different flavours,

0:14:27 > 0:14:28and we were trying to pick

0:14:28 > 0:14:32different combinations so we could try each others' and it was fun.

0:14:33 > 0:14:36- Thank you!- That looks great!

0:14:36 > 0:14:40Becca's looks phenom! Let's eat it!

0:14:40 > 0:14:44- OK.- This is so good.

0:14:44 > 0:14:46We got orange.

0:14:46 > 0:14:49And then we got pistachio, which Brittany wanted.

0:14:49 > 0:14:53And then we got peach, because we're obsessed with peach lately.

0:14:53 > 0:14:56That was really good. We really it a lot. We really like gelato.

0:14:56 > 0:14:59- Please take.- Oh! Oh, my gosh!

0:14:59 > 0:15:02- Hi!- Hi! - I'm Abby.- I'm Brittany.

0:15:02 > 0:15:06'So the Giolitti store is very famous,'

0:15:06 > 0:15:09and big-time actresses and actors and important people were there.

0:15:09 > 0:15:12- This is me.- That's you!- Ben Stiller. - This is Ben Stiller!

0:15:12 > 0:15:14Ben Stiller!

0:15:14 > 0:15:20And the owner was showing us the book that all these famous people signed.

0:15:20 > 0:15:22- Michelle Obama!- Yes.

0:15:22 > 0:15:23Wow!

0:15:23 > 0:15:29- And this is Cameron Diaz. - Wow!- Sharon Stone.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32'And it was funny, because Becca was trying to ask him questions.'

0:15:32 > 0:15:34OK, so we have a question for you.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37- What makes gelato different than ice cream?- Huh?

0:15:37 > 0:15:39What makes gelato different from ice cream?

0:15:42 > 0:15:45'And he was so proud of his book that he completely, like,'

0:15:45 > 0:15:48- didn't even acknowledge it.- And we thought that was hysterical.

0:15:48 > 0:15:49It was so funny.

0:15:49 > 0:15:53He was great!

0:15:53 > 0:15:58- Thank you so much.- Thank you for the visit.- Have a good day.

0:15:58 > 0:15:59Bye.

0:16:02 > 0:16:04- Oh, wow!- Well, this was fun. - This was so cool!

0:16:10 > 0:16:13After we ate gelato, we went to Trevi Fountain.

0:16:13 > 0:16:14Um...it was gorgeous!

0:16:14 > 0:16:16This is really beautiful.

0:16:16 > 0:16:18This is gorgeous.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22Super-chaotic, though. A lot of people.

0:16:25 > 0:16:27- Excuse me, would you take a picture of us?- OK.

0:16:28 > 0:16:30Thank you! Thank you.

0:16:31 > 0:16:34We don't mind crowds so much,

0:16:34 > 0:16:37but obviously a camera crew draws attention

0:16:37 > 0:16:41and we draw attention in ourselves, so that doubled the attention!

0:16:41 > 0:16:43And we don't like attention.

0:16:43 > 0:16:45Maybe not right here?

0:16:45 > 0:16:48I'm amazed at how it doesn't get them bogged down.

0:16:48 > 0:16:50And they're still so courageous to go to new places.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52And so brave.

0:16:52 > 0:16:54And just kind of let a lot of things slide off their back

0:16:54 > 0:16:57and don't think twice about it.

0:16:57 > 0:16:59- Shall we make a wish? - Yeah.- Yeah.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02It's just something they've grown accustomed to

0:17:02 > 0:17:04and kind of deal with it as it comes.

0:17:04 > 0:17:06One, two, three!

0:17:08 > 0:17:13So we saw it, got our pictures and enjoyed it and then...headed out.

0:17:13 > 0:17:15- Let's go.- Back this way. Come this way.

0:17:15 > 0:17:17Can't tell what you wish for

0:17:17 > 0:17:19otherwise it won't come true.

0:17:20 > 0:17:21Where's Erin?

0:17:29 > 0:17:32So we knew that we didn't have much time in Rome,

0:17:32 > 0:17:34so we decided to take a Vespa tour,

0:17:34 > 0:17:37just to get around the city really fast and see everything.

0:17:37 > 0:17:40- Hi, Abby. Hi, Brittany. - Nice to meet you.- I'm Annie.

0:17:40 > 0:17:43'Our guide was Annie and it's a small world

0:17:43 > 0:17:45'because she is actually born and raised in Minnesota

0:17:45 > 0:17:47'which is where we live.'

0:17:47 > 0:17:49- So it was really cool. - And she was really cool.

0:17:51 > 0:17:54So, let's go. Let's get you some helmets.

0:17:54 > 0:17:55There you go.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58You're going to see a lot today on the tour.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00You girls love helmets!

0:18:00 > 0:18:02Here we go!

0:18:02 > 0:18:03Yeah!

0:18:07 > 0:18:10'We'd never ridden a Vespa, so we didn't know what to expect.'

0:18:10 > 0:18:15Um, we know that traffic in Rome is very...crazy.

0:18:15 > 0:18:16Oh, my goodness!

0:18:16 > 0:18:19We don't like motorcycles and jetskis - or, I do -

0:18:19 > 0:18:20but Brittany doesn't!

0:18:20 > 0:18:22So, we don't go on 'em too much.

0:18:26 > 0:18:29So we were a little nervous at first, but we got used to it fast.

0:18:29 > 0:18:30Whoo-hoo!

0:18:31 > 0:18:32THEY CHEER

0:18:47 > 0:18:49So our first stop is the Coliseum,

0:18:49 > 0:18:53which I believe is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

0:18:53 > 0:18:56We're basically facing the centre of Ancient Rome.

0:18:56 > 0:18:59The Coliseum was gorgeous. Like, the architecture is amazing.

0:18:59 > 0:19:04And just, like, the ancient aspect of it was so cool.

0:19:04 > 0:19:07And this is where they had the gladiator games.

0:19:07 > 0:19:11The wild beast fights, musical and religious events.

0:19:11 > 0:19:13Um...all the games were free,

0:19:13 > 0:19:16it just depended on your class in society. OK?

0:19:16 > 0:19:22- You want another photo here?- Yeah! - I'll do more of a close-up.- Perfect.

0:19:22 > 0:19:24Looking good, ladies!

0:19:24 > 0:19:27- All right, back on the Vespas? - Yeah.- Sure!- OK.

0:19:29 > 0:19:33'The Vespa tour was probably, at least, my favourite event of the trip.'

0:19:33 > 0:19:35When in Rome!

0:19:35 > 0:19:39'We were kind of each able to just experience Italy in a new way'

0:19:39 > 0:19:42that was fast-paced, just as the girls are!

0:19:42 > 0:19:44This is the mall.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46The Vatican.

0:19:46 > 0:19:47GIRLS WHOOP

0:19:47 > 0:19:52But that had a little more protection and shield to exposure to other people.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55So this is the Garden of Oranges.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58Annie moved there seven years ago because she studied abroad

0:19:58 > 0:20:02and fell in love with it so much that she permanently moved there.

0:20:02 > 0:20:05She knew a lot of facts about Rome and Italy in general.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07So it was great to have her as our guide.

0:20:07 > 0:20:09This isn't technically a fontanella,

0:20:09 > 0:20:11but there's another one out there that's an nasoni

0:20:11 > 0:20:13which I will tell you about.

0:20:13 > 0:20:16But this has the lupa, the she-wolf.

0:20:16 > 0:20:17So you do this.

0:20:21 > 0:20:23It's fresh, clean, pure aqueduct water.

0:20:28 > 0:20:31Getting the water to be the right pressure

0:20:31 > 0:20:33was definitely weird, at first.

0:20:33 > 0:20:35If you pushed too hard it went up your nose,

0:20:35 > 0:20:38if you didn't push hard enough it didn't come out.

0:20:39 > 0:20:44Abby and Brit didn't quite get that so they got sprayed in the face.

0:20:46 > 0:20:49That was kind of funny to watch them try that.

0:20:49 > 0:20:51There you go!

0:20:51 > 0:20:53I'll stick with the bottle.

0:20:57 > 0:21:01The Vespa tour was probably the highlight of the trip for everyone.

0:21:01 > 0:21:03Just because it was something unique

0:21:03 > 0:21:06and different that none of us has ever done.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09So we really enjoyed it.

0:21:10 > 0:21:13- It was so fun meeting you.- Thank you so much.

0:21:13 > 0:21:15It was so fun showing you.

0:21:15 > 0:21:18- Go Minnesota!- Whoa!

0:21:18 > 0:21:19ALL: Ciao! Thank you!

0:21:21 > 0:21:22Thank you.

0:21:22 > 0:21:26- That was awesome. - That was so much fun!

0:21:26 > 0:21:28That was so cool.

0:21:34 > 0:21:37'That night we had our, like, final dinner.

0:21:37 > 0:21:39'Kind of like chatted about the trip

0:21:39 > 0:21:41'and reminisced about favourite parts.'

0:21:41 > 0:21:45- So much fun stuff. Mm-hm. - We really did.

0:21:45 > 0:21:47It's going to be fun to look through all the pictures.

0:21:47 > 0:21:50'I think the trip was a good bonding experience for all of us.'

0:21:50 > 0:21:54And we became closer, and that's a memory that we'll have for ever.

0:21:54 > 0:21:57'I definitely feel closer to Abby an Brit after this trip.

0:21:57 > 0:22:01'Just seeing how they always stay so positive,'

0:22:01 > 0:22:04gave me even more respect for them than I already had.

0:22:04 > 0:22:07That's one thing I like about Europe that it's so full of culture.

0:22:07 > 0:22:11'All in all it was a wonderful trip. It's good to get away for a while.'

0:22:11 > 0:22:12We've a lot to do back home -

0:22:12 > 0:22:17finding a job, finding a house, and getting somewhere with that.

0:22:17 > 0:22:20'It was great that we could all take this time and go have fun.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22'It was such a great experience.'

0:22:22 > 0:22:24- To safe travels and good friends. - ALL: Cheers! Ciao!

0:22:24 > 0:22:26Ciao bella!

0:22:34 > 0:22:36- What are you doing? Taking pictures...- Taking pictures down.

0:22:36 > 0:22:39- And then, do you want me to take these off the mirror?- Yes, please.

0:22:39 > 0:22:42Summer is winding down and it's going to be the time

0:22:42 > 0:22:45where we have to pack up and start moving into our new house.

0:22:45 > 0:22:47We should maybe get like a box together

0:22:47 > 0:22:49- to do the stuff on the bookcase.- OK.

0:22:49 > 0:22:53'We're going to be living with some of the same roommates that we had our senior year.'

0:22:53 > 0:22:55But we're still getting interviews and looking for jobs.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58- Do you need instructions, girls? - No, I have it done already.

0:22:58 > 0:22:59Do you need instructions, Mom?

0:22:59 > 0:23:02'We've kind of being prepped like there aren't a lot of jobs,'

0:23:02 > 0:23:05so don't expect a whole lot.

0:23:05 > 0:23:08I think maybe three or four of our classmates have gotten jobs,

0:23:08 > 0:23:10which is not really a great number.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12- Empty. Empty.- Garbage.

0:23:12 > 0:23:14Throw all this away.

0:23:14 > 0:23:16You girls are like pack rats.

0:23:16 > 0:23:19When they're empty, throw them out.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22'We're going to be looking for full-time teaching jobs'

0:23:22 > 0:23:26through September and as far as we can find openings.

0:23:26 > 0:23:30But in September, October maybe, we'll look more at subbing

0:23:30 > 0:23:32versus getting a full-time job.

0:23:32 > 0:23:36Because the chances are less likely to get a job

0:23:36 > 0:23:39'as a full-time teacher in like October, November.'

0:23:39 > 0:23:40- We should probably start.- OK.

0:23:40 > 0:23:42Do you want to mark this "nightstand stuff"?

0:23:42 > 0:23:45'Mom came along, cos she's an excellent packer.

0:23:45 > 0:23:49'She's great at organising things and we don't like to pack too much.'

0:23:49 > 0:23:52So she keeps us moving and getting stuff done.

0:23:52 > 0:23:54Oh, this is chaos!

0:23:54 > 0:23:57- Did you ever clean? - Yes, Mom, we've cleaned.

0:23:57 > 0:23:58'Mom was a big help,'

0:23:58 > 0:24:01because it'd have taken eight times as long, cos we're just so like...

0:24:01 > 0:24:03THEY SING

0:24:03 > 0:24:04..and procrastinate all the time.

0:24:04 > 0:24:06All those transcripts.

0:24:06 > 0:24:10This is the transcript? No, just like...extracurricular.

0:24:12 > 0:24:13Remember this?

0:24:13 > 0:24:15'I'm definitely more of a pack rat.'

0:24:15 > 0:24:17I definitely like to keep everything. Yeah. All the time.

0:24:17 > 0:24:20But I'm like, "Throw it away, we don't need it any more."

0:24:20 > 0:24:23Why do you need this? Cos it has a good certificate.

0:24:23 > 0:24:25When they're undecided about something

0:24:25 > 0:24:27or they each have a different perspective

0:24:27 > 0:24:28of how they want it to go,

0:24:28 > 0:24:31then, they look for somebody that'll break the tie.

0:24:31 > 0:24:33Shall I tape or do you want to...?

0:24:33 > 0:24:35Let's test out your skills.

0:24:35 > 0:24:37Abby and Brit like to be in charge.

0:24:37 > 0:24:39Look what you did!

0:24:39 > 0:24:43'Abby definitely is the more vocal one'

0:24:43 > 0:24:45and Brittany is more reserved

0:24:45 > 0:24:49and, at the end, she'll tell you everything she thinks.

0:24:49 > 0:24:51- This is a disaster. - No, it will be OK.

0:24:51 > 0:24:54'Everyone is so excited about the new house.'

0:24:54 > 0:24:57Katy had just texted us today and it was like, "I can't wait to move!"

0:24:57 > 0:24:59Here are our pretty ducks!

0:25:02 > 0:25:03'We're a bit crazy.'

0:25:03 > 0:25:05We're girls, girls are crazy!

0:25:05 > 0:25:07OK.

0:25:07 > 0:25:08Let's go.

0:25:12 > 0:25:16We decided we're going to live with our parents for, like, three weeks.

0:25:16 > 0:25:18Um...and a friend was coming into town from London,

0:25:18 > 0:25:21so we decided to pick him up.

0:25:21 > 0:25:23- How are you?- Good, how are you?!

0:25:23 > 0:25:25- Come on in.- OK!- Do this!

0:25:25 > 0:25:27First stop pub, yeah?

0:25:27 > 0:25:29- Yeah, right?- Yeah!

0:25:29 > 0:25:31- All right, now, don't crash. - I'm not going to crash.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34- You already confessed how bad your driving is.- I did not say that!

0:25:34 > 0:25:38So we met Richie in England, one of the times we were there.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41'And he's never been to the States, he's coming to America'

0:25:41 > 0:25:44and thought it'd be fun to make a stop at our place.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47- How do we get home? - You're asking me how to get home.

0:25:47 > 0:25:49I have no bait at all.

0:25:49 > 0:25:51God help me.

0:25:51 > 0:25:54Drive and laugh...is hard at the same time.

0:25:54 > 0:25:57I met Abby and Brit on one of their trips to London.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00'You know, it's not something you see every day, conjoined twins,

0:26:00 > 0:26:02'it's pretty unique.'

0:26:02 > 0:26:04They're just like two average girls.

0:26:04 > 0:26:07They're really, really funny, really, really warm and a really good laugh.

0:26:07 > 0:26:09Oh, I think we're lost.

0:26:09 > 0:26:11You're lost!

0:26:11 > 0:26:13You're lost.

0:26:13 > 0:26:16You're lost as in geographically embarrassed lost?

0:26:16 > 0:26:17A little bit...

0:26:17 > 0:26:19This is your town!

0:26:19 > 0:26:21'Out trip got a lot longer'

0:26:21 > 0:26:24because I wasn't paying attention to where I was going

0:26:24 > 0:26:27so...we missed a few turns.

0:26:27 > 0:26:31- Does anybody have a GPS, because... Wait.- Hang on.

0:26:31 > 0:26:33Wow!

0:26:33 > 0:26:35'It blows my mind, actually, to be honest,'

0:26:35 > 0:26:37you know, you have to use sort of every part of your body

0:26:37 > 0:26:40and you have to, you know, keep your eyes on the road.

0:26:40 > 0:26:41'I kind of look at it...

0:26:41 > 0:26:44'If I was sitting in the driver's seat with a friend'

0:26:44 > 0:26:48and I drive with one hand and, you know, they drive with the other,

0:26:48 > 0:26:49how well we'd get on?

0:26:49 > 0:26:51'Try to equate that with Abby and Brit.

0:26:51 > 0:26:53'I suppose they've been doing it so long'

0:26:53 > 0:26:55that it's just second nature to them.

0:26:55 > 0:26:57I think we have a long journey.

0:26:57 > 0:26:58Yeah.

0:26:58 > 0:27:00They were properly lost.

0:27:00 > 0:27:02What is she doing? She can't even see!

0:27:02 > 0:27:04I have a great advantage here.

0:27:04 > 0:27:06- Two eyes on the road!- I know.

0:27:06 > 0:27:11- To be honest, you can't argue with that, can you?- No, you can't. No.

0:27:11 > 0:27:12- Well, this is Minnesota.- Yeah.

0:27:12 > 0:27:15You just want to see as much of Minnesota as you can.

0:27:15 > 0:27:17- I do, yeah. - Yeah, so take it in, buddy.

0:27:17 > 0:27:20I'm taking it all in, I'm like a sponge, I'm absorbing it.

0:27:20 > 0:27:26When we did actually find our way back and realised where we were,

0:27:26 > 0:27:29the girls took me through their home town where they grew up.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31- So...- I feel like I've just walked in a Western.

0:27:31 > 0:27:33THEY LAUGH

0:27:34 > 0:27:36This is the high school.

0:27:36 > 0:27:38- Was it a happy time at high school? - I loved high school.

0:27:38 > 0:27:41- Did you enjoy every minute of it? - I loved high school. - I hated high school.

0:27:41 > 0:27:44Oh, I loved it! I had...I had such a good time.

0:27:44 > 0:27:46That's where I used to live, right there.

0:27:46 > 0:27:48- Oh, cool. So that one with the curved roof?- Yeah.

0:27:48 > 0:27:53It was really, really nice to get that insight into their home life

0:27:53 > 0:27:55and where they grew up.

0:27:59 > 0:28:02So we have some time before we can move into our new house,

0:28:02 > 0:28:04so we decided to stay with our parents

0:28:04 > 0:28:05for the next couple of weeks.

0:28:05 > 0:28:07- What a nice house!- Thank you!

0:28:07 > 0:28:09I'm on best behaviour, no swearing in front of Mum.

0:28:09 > 0:28:11No swearing in front of Mom.

0:28:11 > 0:28:12Hello! How are you doing, Patty?

0:28:12 > 0:28:14- How are you?- Lovely to meet you. - Me too.

0:28:14 > 0:28:17Since it was the end of summer, we were having a Labor Day party

0:28:17 > 0:28:19with our friends and just get everybody together.

0:28:19 > 0:28:21- You've got a few people coming round today?- Yeah!

0:28:21 > 0:28:23When we found out that Richie was coming,

0:28:23 > 0:28:27we decided to go crazy and make it an American-themed party.

0:28:27 > 0:28:30- Oh, my... Is that a flapjack, right, no?- A flapjack?

0:28:30 > 0:28:32- A bit like a flapjack. - That's a pancake.

0:28:32 > 0:28:35- A flapjack is like a bar. - No, a flapjack is a pancake.

0:28:35 > 0:28:37In America, you're in America!

0:28:37 > 0:28:39All right, all right. My bad, my bad.

0:28:39 > 0:28:42- So are you going to give me the grand tour?- Yes, here it is!

0:28:42 > 0:28:44This is the living room.

0:28:44 > 0:28:45HE LAUGHS

0:28:45 > 0:28:47Check the cheesy grins out.

0:28:47 > 0:28:48Yeah, we were all crying...

0:28:48 > 0:28:51They made you take that family picture. When was that taken?

0:28:51 > 0:28:54- Oh, you're at that age when all your teeth are falling out.- Yeah.

0:28:54 > 0:28:55What's that for?

0:28:55 > 0:28:56That's us in Life magazine.

0:28:56 > 0:28:59We were going up the stairs and there's a huge photo of them

0:28:59 > 0:29:00on the cover of Life magazine.

0:29:00 > 0:29:03And that was the kind of first time I realised that, actually,

0:29:03 > 0:29:06they've been in the press quite a bit since they were younger.

0:29:06 > 0:29:09- That's real, like, we were in Life magazine.- Ah...

0:29:09 > 0:29:11'Since the girls turned 18,'

0:29:11 > 0:29:14it seems like people aren't quite as sympathetic towards them

0:29:14 > 0:29:18and I don't mean people, public, I mean people like journalists maybe

0:29:18 > 0:29:21and I don't want to classify them all in the same category

0:29:21 > 0:29:23by any means.

0:29:23 > 0:29:28But it was almost like after they turned 18, they were like fair game.

0:29:28 > 0:29:31- It's like MTV Creeps.- I liked it!

0:29:31 > 0:29:34Yeah? You've got like the best rapper accent.

0:29:34 > 0:29:36- THEY RAP:- Yo, yo, yo! - Yo! You've got a food bowl.

0:29:36 > 0:29:39- THEY RAP:- That's a food bowl! - That's where the magic happens.

0:29:39 > 0:29:41'That's probably been the hardest thing for me,'

0:29:41 > 0:29:45it's to... I can't control that.

0:29:45 > 0:29:47No, do this one. You can do this one.

0:29:47 > 0:29:50'The girls don't see themselves as famous at all.

0:29:50 > 0:29:53'And, you know, seeing that front page spread

0:29:53 > 0:29:55'is like, you are actually famous.'

0:29:55 > 0:29:58You've got your own show. But the girls are adamant, you know,

0:29:58 > 0:30:01they're not famous, they don't want to be famous.

0:30:01 > 0:30:02- This is our room.- This is your room?

0:30:02 > 0:30:04- Yeah.- This is a pad.- Yeah.

0:30:04 > 0:30:08- Banished downstairs cos you don't behave.- Downstairs everywhere...

0:30:08 > 0:30:11'We don't see ourselves as being famous'

0:30:11 > 0:30:15or this cool thing, like, we live our lives normally

0:30:15 > 0:30:17as everyone else does in an everyday way

0:30:17 > 0:30:23and so, like, we just don't need that or want that.

0:30:23 > 0:30:27We want to live normal day-to-day lives just like everybody else.

0:30:27 > 0:30:30People have to know that the stuff that they read

0:30:30 > 0:30:32isn't always really what is the truth.

0:30:32 > 0:30:37And some people like to make it sound as good as they can

0:30:37 > 0:30:40or as bad as they can just because of...

0:30:40 > 0:30:42It may make them more money, actually,

0:30:42 > 0:30:45at somebody else's expense. And that's what's sad.

0:30:45 > 0:30:48- Where is this? Is this in college? - That was in college.

0:30:48 > 0:30:50- What's this? - That was my graduation invitation.

0:30:50 > 0:30:52We don't appreciate like magazines

0:30:52 > 0:30:55taking our story and making it theirs

0:30:55 > 0:31:00or rumours of engagements or stuff like that, crazy stuff like that.

0:31:00 > 0:31:02There's not many pictures of you when you were a kid,

0:31:04 > 0:31:06- Apart from this one.- Yeah.

0:31:06 > 0:31:09I know Abby and Brit get over it far better than I do,

0:31:09 > 0:31:10you know, as the mother,

0:31:10 > 0:31:14you get real furious about that kind of thing.

0:31:14 > 0:31:16And they're your kids and...

0:31:16 > 0:31:18I don't know, people...

0:31:18 > 0:31:22The hard part for me is that people don't have to be accountable.

0:31:22 > 0:31:24- There's Santa Claus.- Did you get everything you wanted that year?

0:31:24 > 0:31:25- I don't remember.- No?

0:31:25 > 0:31:29'They deal with the hand they've been dealt and they just get on with it.

0:31:29 > 0:31:31'I think it'd be really, really easy for someone to just go, you know,

0:31:31 > 0:31:34'"We're conjoined twins, I'm just going to shut myself away

0:31:34 > 0:31:36'"and I'm not going to get involved in anything

0:31:36 > 0:31:39'"and I'm going to care about what people think about me."

0:31:39 > 0:31:40'Whereas the girls are like,'

0:31:40 > 0:31:44"You know, what? We're just going to get on with life and try anything."

0:31:44 > 0:31:46And they won't let anything stop in their way,

0:31:46 > 0:31:47least of all sharing a body.

0:31:53 > 0:31:54Mom, look at this!

0:31:57 > 0:31:59That's hilarious.

0:31:59 > 0:32:02- How are we doing, ladies? All right? - This is Richie.- How are you?

0:32:02 > 0:32:05Nice to meet you. Did you guys coordinate this, did you?

0:32:07 > 0:32:10Our roommate, Kayla, had texted us previously

0:32:10 > 0:32:12that her and Ali were matching.

0:32:12 > 0:32:15And we come to the house and I open the door...

0:32:15 > 0:32:19And we had the same outfit on they did. Quite the roommate moment.

0:32:19 > 0:32:21We were screaming. It was pretty funny.

0:32:21 > 0:32:25It's the roommates in us, you know? I don't know what happened to you.

0:32:25 > 0:32:28Cari Jo is looking hot, is what it is.

0:32:28 > 0:32:29LAUGHTER

0:32:33 > 0:32:36Put your hand on your heart and repeat after me.

0:32:36 > 0:32:38- I pledge allegiance. - I pledge allegiance.

0:32:38 > 0:32:40- To the flag.- To the flag.

0:32:40 > 0:32:43- Of the United States of America. - Of the United States of America.

0:33:12 > 0:33:14Whoo!

0:33:14 > 0:33:15It's not your ball.

0:33:15 > 0:33:18We've played volleyball for... since we were in fifth grade.

0:33:18 > 0:33:21All of a sudden, we're playing properly now, are we?

0:33:21 > 0:33:22All of a sudden, there's rules.

0:33:22 > 0:33:26Till, like, ninth or tenth grade, and then we coached for two years.

0:33:26 > 0:33:29And then we played intramurals in college.

0:33:29 > 0:33:32You want to wallop it.

0:33:32 > 0:33:34Ohh!

0:33:40 > 0:33:44- Oh, it's coming back.- Nice. I feel like I'm in Top Gun.

0:33:46 > 0:33:48That was a beautiful pirouette.

0:33:57 > 0:34:01- Out.- Ohh!- What are you on about? It was out by a mile!

0:34:01 > 0:34:04Let's play football, see how you whoop them.

0:34:09 > 0:34:11Yeah, girl. Out.

0:34:13 > 0:34:17That volleyball match, I was adamant that Alex and I would win.

0:34:19 > 0:34:22I think, if we really looked at it,

0:34:22 > 0:34:24we probably didn't do as well as we thought.

0:34:28 > 0:34:30Oh. Oh!

0:34:30 > 0:34:34Oh, he was so confident himself, but we definitely destroyed him.

0:34:36 > 0:34:40- Oh, wow!- Playing against the girls, I was really impressed.

0:34:40 > 0:34:43They were like Olympians. They were so good.

0:34:43 > 0:34:46You kind of forget they are in communication with each other

0:34:46 > 0:34:48constantly, sort of subconsciously.

0:34:48 > 0:34:51But to watch them sort of run and spike the ball

0:34:51 > 0:34:53and stuff like that constantly, impressed.

0:34:53 > 0:34:54Are you ready for this one?

0:34:57 > 0:34:59They are actually pretty good, to be honest.

0:34:59 > 0:35:01I didn't think they'd be that good!

0:35:01 > 0:35:04- You know, Richie is a little rough. - Kind of flailing everywhere.

0:35:04 > 0:35:08- Kind of trips and falls and stuff. - But he's pretty scrappy.

0:35:08 > 0:35:10We've got to be prepared.

0:35:10 > 0:35:14Doing pretty well. Lucky for them, we're not keeping score.

0:35:14 > 0:35:17- Lucky for them, we are in dresses. - Look at what we've done to them.

0:35:17 > 0:35:19They are in the woods!

0:35:24 > 0:35:26Are there snakes in here?

0:35:33 > 0:35:37We played easy on them because we were in skirts and dresses.

0:35:37 > 0:35:38And we still beat them.

0:35:41 > 0:35:44How they get on is just totally in sync.

0:35:44 > 0:35:47The girls probably don't feel any different towards it.

0:35:47 > 0:35:49It is what it is.

0:35:49 > 0:35:51They've lived with it since birth, so it's no different to them,

0:35:51 > 0:35:54but as an outsider looking in, you tend to forget that,

0:35:54 > 0:35:58actually, they are two separate people sharing this body.

0:35:58 > 0:35:59Go.

0:35:59 > 0:36:01Yes!

0:36:01 > 0:36:05Wow! It's meant to be just a friendly game at a barbecue.

0:36:05 > 0:36:08No, not her. She wants to just smash the life out of it.

0:36:08 > 0:36:10My favourite moment was when Cari Jo...

0:36:10 > 0:36:12..went up to spike the ball...

0:36:12 > 0:36:15..and both Alex and Richie's faces were like...

0:36:15 > 0:36:19just scared out of their minds. It was so funny.

0:36:19 > 0:36:21And so Richie did try very hard,

0:36:21 > 0:36:23but the girls definitely beat the boys.

0:36:27 > 0:36:30Our best friend Elle, her family owns a cabin.

0:36:30 > 0:36:33We've been best friends with her since high school.

0:36:33 > 0:36:37We always go up to her cabin, play around on the water and relax.

0:36:37 > 0:36:39We're going to swim right around here.

0:36:39 > 0:36:42I'm Elle, and I've known Abby and Brittany

0:37:17 > 0:37:18It's cold!

0:37:18 > 0:37:20'On the lake swimming, you know, something that we all

0:37:20 > 0:37:23'take for granted once we learn when we're younger,

0:37:23 > 0:37:24'and I suppose, in some respects,'

0:37:24 > 0:37:27it's the same for the girls, but again, it's two separate people

0:37:31 > 0:37:35- Have a diving competition.- Go ahead. - Who can do the most elaborate dive?

0:38:48 > 0:38:53and you just see how beautiful they are and so amazing,

0:38:53 > 0:38:56how they can work together and how they have to work together

0:42:49 > 0:42:52'After Cari Jo found out she got a job, we decided to go

0:42:52 > 0:42:56'shopping together to get some school supplies for our new rooms.'

0:42:56 > 0:42:58- We need these! - Yeah, you need...- So do you!

0:43:01 > 0:43:04- ABC apples!- Yeah. - Because we're teachers!

0:43:04 > 0:43:07Most of our friends have got jobs.

0:43:07 > 0:43:10Some are still in the interview process, so we're all very lucky.

0:43:10 > 0:43:13"Includes practice for standardised test."

0:43:13 > 0:43:16- Oh!- And then, fractions. - I think I'll take this.

0:43:16 > 0:43:20- There's a lot of stuff you need... - When you're a teacher.- Obviously.

0:43:20 > 0:43:24- We didn't know what we were going to need.- Or like get.- Or whatever.

0:43:24 > 0:43:27- But we just went, um... - Just to at least get started.

0:43:27 > 0:43:30There's so much stuff! Do we really need this stuff?

0:43:30 > 0:43:33'We've always wanted to be teachers, since we were little, I think.'

0:43:33 > 0:43:36'Um, we played school and would give them like worksheets

0:43:36 > 0:43:39and then, corrected them and, um...

0:43:39 > 0:43:42We like the organisational part of being a teacher.

0:43:42 > 0:43:45- Oh, it's a grade book! - And lesson plans.- And lesson plans.

0:43:45 > 0:43:46'When they were five, I remember'

0:43:46 > 0:43:49one wanted to be a pilot and one wanted to be a dentist

0:43:49 > 0:43:51'and that was short-lived.'

0:43:51 > 0:43:53- A pointer?- It's expected.

0:43:53 > 0:43:55- "Don't you do that!" - In my classroom!

0:43:55 > 0:43:56LAUGHTER

0:43:56 > 0:43:59But since, you know, their young teens, I think

0:43:59 > 0:44:03they've probably thought something along the lines of teaching.

0:44:03 > 0:44:05Big dice! We use these in my classroom!

0:44:05 > 0:44:10Oh, yeah, that'd be sweet! How about foam counters for math bingo?

0:44:10 > 0:44:12'Abby wanted to do more...'

0:44:12 > 0:44:16- Math.- ..education and I wanted to do more of the pre-primary,

0:44:16 > 0:44:19which is, um, birth to sixth grade.

0:44:19 > 0:44:22'If we did two separate majors, we wouldn't get done in four years.'

0:44:22 > 0:44:24- BOTH: So... - We had to find a compromise

0:44:24 > 0:44:28and math is changeable, so...that's where we're at.

0:44:28 > 0:44:30I'm so nervous!

0:44:30 > 0:44:32- I'm not!- We're, like, more excited than nervous.

0:44:32 > 0:44:36But I am nervous as well, just cos it's like this is a huge transition.

0:44:36 > 0:44:38Well, if you get it, you win a prize.

0:44:38 > 0:44:40Give 'em a reason to show up every day.

0:44:40 > 0:44:43They're fourth and fifth grade. They'd better show up every day.

0:44:46 > 0:44:48- Now it's like...- "You earned this."

0:44:48 > 0:44:51"You earned the spot and have to go get it" kind of thing.

0:44:51 > 0:44:53I think it's going to go well for them,

0:44:53 > 0:44:55because they've just always had

0:44:55 > 0:45:00'a knack with kids and kids have always kind of been drawn to them.

0:45:00 > 0:45:02'You know, maybe it started by curiosity,

0:45:02 > 0:45:05'but then, once their simple questions were answered, they...'

0:45:05 > 0:45:09they still just are drawn to Ab and Brit, for some reason.

0:45:09 > 0:45:12I learned today that the biggest number is googolplex, so...

0:45:12 > 0:45:15'We're really excited just to start, like,

0:45:15 > 0:45:17'this new teaching stuff with Cari Jo.

0:45:17 > 0:45:19'We can, like, talk through our days and, like,

0:45:19 > 0:45:22'bounce ideas off each other and get advice.'

0:45:22 > 0:45:25It's just someone to relate to and who's doing the same thing you are,

0:45:25 > 0:45:28so it'll be nice that we're together and doing that.

0:45:28 > 0:45:30I don't know. I am so nervous and overwhelmed.

0:45:30 > 0:45:33I mean, the closer it gets, the more nervous I am.

0:45:33 > 0:45:36- It's just, like, we're ready for it to be here.- Yes.

0:45:36 > 0:45:39- We're tired of waiting. We're ready to do it.- Ready for the next thing.

0:45:39 > 0:45:41Whoo-hoo!

0:45:41 > 0:45:43BOTH: Thank you!

0:45:43 > 0:45:44Oh, my gosh!

0:45:49 > 0:45:52The first day of school's coming up and we needed to get

0:45:52 > 0:45:55some lesson planning done to be prepared for the kids.

0:45:55 > 0:45:59- 20 ounce ice with a shot of caramel, please.- Yeah, absolutely.- Thank you!

0:45:59 > 0:46:03- We went to a nearby coffee shop... - To get some work done.

0:46:03 > 0:46:06- There you go.- Thank you.- You're welcome. That'll be right out.- OK.

0:46:06 > 0:46:08OK, let's go to the back.

0:46:10 > 0:46:12- What are you doing here? - How are you guys?

0:46:12 > 0:46:14BOTH: Good! How are you?

0:46:14 > 0:46:17And we ran into our favourite teacher!

0:46:17 > 0:46:19- What's up?- Not much.

0:46:19 > 0:46:23- 'He was our teacher in high school. - Our English teacher.'

0:46:23 > 0:46:27- He was definitely...- Definitely our favourite teacher from high school.

0:46:27 > 0:46:29And probably the reason we want to be teachers.

0:46:29 > 0:46:31- I've heard about your new job. - BOTH: Yeah!

0:46:31 > 0:46:34So are you nervous about, er, teaching or not?

0:46:34 > 0:46:37- I have bad dreams.- Bad dreams? - BOTH: Yeah!

0:46:37 > 0:46:40That the kids are going to be, like, running around everywhere.

0:46:40 > 0:46:43- You'll always have to deal with stuff.- Yes.- They'll try it

0:46:43 > 0:46:45and they're going to test you that way.

0:46:45 > 0:46:47- There's two of us.- That's true.

0:46:47 > 0:46:50- How's that going to work?- Double or nothing.- Have you figured out

0:46:50 > 0:46:53- how you're going to discipline with the two of you?- Yeah!

0:46:53 > 0:46:55- Full force right at 'em!- Ha-ha!

0:46:55 > 0:46:58- I thought you might be the full force one.- No, I am.- You are?

0:46:58 > 0:47:00- Brittany's so mean.- Really?- Yeah!

0:47:00 > 0:47:02- That I would not have guessed. - The quiet one.

0:47:02 > 0:47:04How are you going to teach things?

0:47:05 > 0:47:08- We did, like, a "What did you like about Abby and Brittany?"- Yeah.

0:47:08 > 0:47:11And they said they liked when we talked at the same time.

0:47:11 > 0:47:14Sometimes, that will work and sometimes that won't with the kids.

0:47:14 > 0:47:17- But you'll do it.- I'll just rock it. - I'm not worried about that.

0:47:17 > 0:47:21- I'll be calling you.- Help me! Help me!- And I'll answer.

0:47:21 > 0:47:23- You can't do math. - Oh, I won't help!- Oh, shoot!

0:47:23 > 0:47:27- A cellphone calculator.- Yeah! - That's the best I can offer.

0:47:27 > 0:47:31- I told you, math's not important. - It is!- It's reading...- I can read.

0:47:31 > 0:47:34- It's ready and speaking. - You can't read!- Oh, I can read.

0:47:34 > 0:47:37- Not very well, she can't.- She can, but she had you to rely on.

0:47:37 > 0:47:40- She did!- Who knows better than us, right?- Yeah, exactly.

0:47:40 > 0:47:42But you still passed her.

0:47:42 > 0:47:45- I didn't want to have Brit another year!- Oh...that's so...- Ha-ha!

0:47:45 > 0:47:47I didn't want to take it another year.

0:47:47 > 0:47:51And let's be honest, it'd be really hard to pass one and not the other.

0:47:51 > 0:47:52BOTH: I know, it'd be awful!

0:47:52 > 0:47:55- Someone would have to feel bad.- But you'd like having me another year.

0:47:55 > 0:47:58- I'm the good one!- You are the hard worker of the bunch.

0:47:58 > 0:48:01He was a hard teacher, really hard, and never accepted anything

0:48:01 > 0:48:05- but the best.- And I think that was... - Great for us.- Because it, er,

0:48:05 > 0:48:09motivated us to do well, knowing he was a hard grader and so, um,

0:48:09 > 0:48:13his high standards pushed us to meet his high standards.

0:48:13 > 0:48:15Best advice I got when I first started teaching was,

0:48:15 > 0:48:19"Keep your mouth shut, listen to everybody who knows better and then,

0:48:19 > 0:48:23"as you get better at it and you understand what's going on,

0:48:23 > 0:48:24"then you can kind of take off."

0:48:24 > 0:48:27'He's an experienced teacher and someone we look up to,

0:48:27 > 0:48:31'so we take what he says to heart and run with it.

0:48:33 > 0:48:36'So we got a job in a school just north of the city.

0:48:36 > 0:48:39'School's going to be starting in a few days,

0:48:39 > 0:48:40'so we have the weekend'

0:48:40 > 0:48:41to move and get settled,

0:48:41 > 0:48:45'so we decided to paint one day and then move in the next.'

0:48:45 > 0:48:49- Ooh, nice!- We have a couple of things, so I need a new bedspread.

0:48:49 > 0:48:53- 'Tammy is...- One of our mom's best friends. She's helped us before'

0:48:53 > 0:48:56with painting, so we asked her and we also asked Erin.

0:48:56 > 0:48:58- They leave all these curtains?- Yeah.

0:48:58 > 0:49:01- I love the convenience of this. - It's really nice if they left it.

0:49:01 > 0:49:05I really want a new bedspread, like, purple.

0:49:05 > 0:49:06Now I have purple!

0:49:06 > 0:49:10- Perfect!- I know! - It just all works out!

0:49:10 > 0:49:13- I know, right? - With your first pay cheque.

0:49:13 > 0:49:16Oh, there comes the reality of it all.

0:49:16 > 0:49:20I said she accustomed us to use her money for 22 years.

0:49:20 > 0:49:23I think it has to be, like, a slower process...

0:49:23 > 0:49:25until...until we're married.

0:49:25 > 0:49:28I said that we're their responsibility until marriage.

0:49:28 > 0:49:30- LAUGHTER - No.

0:49:30 > 0:49:33No. I'm getting you health insurance.

0:49:33 > 0:49:34- Hey, help us.- Actually, that's huge.

0:49:34 > 0:49:36LAUGHTER

0:49:45 > 0:49:48Everyone was moving in that day and we were all excited

0:49:48 > 0:49:51- to be living together again... - And have our own place again.

0:49:51 > 0:49:53The goal is to carry as much as you can.

0:49:53 > 0:49:58- Oh, this is not that heavy. How are you doing?- Good.

0:49:58 > 0:50:00Oh, it is? Whose is it?

0:50:00 > 0:50:01Oh...

0:50:09 > 0:50:12THEY SQUEAL

0:50:12 > 0:50:15Hold on! Go like this.

0:50:15 > 0:50:17OK, OK, hold...

0:50:18 > 0:50:19- Got it.- Good.

0:50:19 > 0:50:21Phew!

0:50:21 > 0:50:24Cari Jo, I honestly can't get this.

0:50:24 > 0:50:26THEY SQUEAL

0:50:26 > 0:50:28OK, you can just set it down anywhere.

0:50:32 > 0:50:36That chair maybe in the corner right there.

0:50:36 > 0:50:37And then you could kind of make this

0:50:37 > 0:50:39- into a living area with the two couches.- Yes!

0:50:39 > 0:50:43OK, is that where the TV's going to go? I'm handling...

0:50:45 > 0:50:47Yeah, and then it's...

0:50:50 > 0:50:53- Oh, my gosh!- Where's the thing for this light going to go?

0:50:53 > 0:50:55It was a long day and we're all very tired,

0:50:55 > 0:50:58but we finally got moved in and settled and unpacked.

0:50:58 > 0:51:00SO sick of unpacking!

0:51:03 > 0:51:06We decided to go to our classroom and start putting stuff together,

0:51:06 > 0:51:09kind of getting it set up to feel a little bit more homey.

0:51:12 > 0:51:14Have this be a little spot...

0:51:15 > 0:51:17This is so cute.

0:51:19 > 0:51:23'We really had fun at this interview process.'

0:51:23 > 0:51:28The first one was a phone call from Mr Good, the principal.

0:51:28 > 0:51:30They came to our school

0:51:30 > 0:51:32and sat on the table with myself

0:51:32 > 0:51:33and four other teachers,

0:51:33 > 0:51:34and after the interview,

0:51:34 > 0:51:36I ushered the girls out to the front door

0:51:36 > 0:51:41and I came back into the room and before I even sat down,

0:51:41 > 0:51:46one of the people said, "Run after them, hire them, give them the job."

0:51:46 > 0:51:48Felt like we connected well with the staff

0:51:48 > 0:51:49and it was just really good.

0:51:49 > 0:51:52It was a good interview. A good fit for us.

0:51:52 > 0:51:55There were, like, I think 175 applicants for the job

0:51:55 > 0:51:57that we did indeed hire them for.

0:51:57 > 0:52:00I was looking for a very excellent candidate, and they had all that.

0:52:00 > 0:52:03Obviously their exuberance, their math knowledge,

0:52:03 > 0:52:05their ability to problem solve.

0:52:06 > 0:52:08Just their excitement.

0:52:08 > 0:52:09I like fourth and fifth grade,

0:52:09 > 0:52:11because I think they're more independent,

0:52:11 > 0:52:12and their personalities are, like,

0:52:12 > 0:52:16starting to come out a lot more and I think that's really fun.

0:52:16 > 0:52:18It was kind of uncharted territory.

0:52:18 > 0:52:20And so that's why I called...

0:52:20 > 0:52:22"Hello, HR, what can we do? How does this all work?"

0:52:22 > 0:52:26And so forth, and we did have a meeting with them. I mean, HR did.

0:52:26 > 0:52:29Just to kind of determine how they were going to deal with...

0:52:29 > 0:52:34cos the reality is they are starting to work for teacher retirement.

0:52:38 > 0:52:41We have two contracts, but we're only part-time,

0:52:41 > 0:52:43so obviously we don't get full salary.

0:52:43 > 0:52:45But, um, what they're doing is just splitting it in two

0:52:45 > 0:52:49and giving me half and Brittany half, so right now, that's good.

0:52:54 > 0:52:57- Hello!- Hey, ladies! How are you doing?

0:52:57 > 0:52:59- Good! How are you?- Good! - What do you think?

0:52:59 > 0:53:02- Oh, I think you're ready for students right now.- All right!

0:53:02 > 0:53:03- I'm excited.- Yeah?

0:53:03 > 0:53:06- I can't wait.- Yeah, well, it's coming along here.

0:53:06 > 0:53:09- I know!- Well, OK, I just wanted to stop by and say hi.

0:53:09 > 0:53:12- Thank you!- If you have any questions, don't hesitate.

0:53:12 > 0:53:14You've got my email and phone and stuff

0:53:14 > 0:53:17- and don't hesitate.- Absolutely.

0:53:17 > 0:53:19Hey, well, take care.

0:53:19 > 0:53:21- See you later.- Bye!- Bye!

0:53:21 > 0:53:23OK!

0:53:35 > 0:53:38SHE KNOCKS ON DOOR

0:53:38 > 0:53:41Good morning!

0:53:41 > 0:53:45Girls! Happy first day of school!

0:53:45 > 0:53:48The first day of school finally arrived,

0:53:48 > 0:53:50and we were so prepared and ready.

0:53:50 > 0:53:53We were excited about it. We could barely sleep the night before.

0:53:53 > 0:53:55- There's coffee for you. - This is so weird!

0:53:55 > 0:53:57'We're, like, really bad at, like,

0:53:57 > 0:53:59'just laying down and falling asleep.'

0:53:59 > 0:54:01Normally, Abby falls asleep first

0:54:01 > 0:54:03and then I fall asleep shortly after.

0:54:03 > 0:54:05What time is it? Like, nine?

0:54:05 > 0:54:06It's nine-something.

0:54:06 > 0:54:09Probably should get ready to go, huh?

0:54:09 > 0:54:11- Are you excited?- Yeah!

0:54:11 > 0:54:14We don't have to be at school until ten o'clock,

0:54:14 > 0:54:15so we can sleep in a bit, which is nice.

0:54:15 > 0:54:17- I hope you have a good outfit picked out.- Oh, we do!

0:54:17 > 0:54:20- It's going to look fab.- First day, you need to make good impressions.

0:54:20 > 0:54:23OK, well, let me get dressed before I come out.

0:54:23 > 0:54:25We're so excited to start.

0:54:25 > 0:54:27We've been planning and preparing for a long time.

0:54:27 > 0:54:30We're ready to get there and get the kids and get started.

0:54:31 > 0:54:36It'll be fun to start teaching,

0:54:36 > 0:54:38because we've been preparing for it for a long time.

0:54:41 > 0:54:44'What I like about Ab and Brit is they don't let the dust settle.'

0:54:44 > 0:54:47They're always on to the next thing.

0:54:47 > 0:54:52You know, we all have things in our life that we wish weren't,

0:54:52 > 0:54:57but they've just decided to work with what they've got and they do.

0:54:57 > 0:55:00And they do a very good job.

0:55:00 > 0:55:02Ta-da!

0:55:02 > 0:55:04'I've learned so much from Brit and Abby,'

0:55:04 > 0:55:07and I think a huge thing is being grateful for what you have

0:55:07 > 0:55:09and just learning how to work together

0:55:09 > 0:55:11and just being sisters in a really beautiful way.

0:55:18 > 0:55:21Together, they're just...they're always encouraging one another,

0:55:21 > 0:55:25like, if one person doesn't want to do their work or something,

0:55:25 > 0:55:27it's like, "Come on, we're almost done. We can do it.

0:55:27 > 0:55:29"Let's just push through this last part."

0:55:32 > 0:55:34I feel like as they've matured individually,

0:55:34 > 0:55:37as they have grown into more of a mature outlook on life,

0:55:37 > 0:55:40they've really kind of grown together

0:55:40 > 0:55:42and I can say probably without a doubt

0:55:42 > 0:55:43that they love who each other are.

0:55:43 > 0:55:46Right, let's go!

0:55:46 > 0:55:48I don't think there's anything that they won't try

0:55:48 > 0:55:52or something they couldn't be able to do if they really wanted to.

0:55:52 > 0:55:53And to bring that to children,

0:55:53 > 0:55:57especially kids who might be struggling, that's very special.
