0:00:02 > 0:00:06You firmly believe life would be better 10,000 miles away

0:00:06 > 0:00:09in a country you've never visited,

0:00:09 > 0:00:12but if your partner's dead set against the idea,

0:00:12 > 0:00:15how would you begin to change their mind?

0:00:15 > 0:00:20In 2015, Hannah Gaj was hoping to convince husband Zameer

0:00:20 > 0:00:24to follow her dream and move to Australia.

0:00:24 > 0:00:28Today, one year on, we'll find out how and where they are now.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31Back in 2015,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34Hannah Gaj was on a mission to persuade husband Zameer

0:00:34 > 0:00:37life would be better on the other side of the world.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40She's crazy! Help!

0:00:40 > 0:00:44Yeah? She wants to move me to Australia on a whim.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47A trial week down under saw her dream come alive.

0:00:47 > 0:00:52It's hot and sunny and I could definitely see myself living here.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55One year on, have the family made it to the other side of the world?

0:00:55 > 0:00:58It's kind of gone completely the opposite now.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00We now get told, "No, you're not moving."

0:01:23 > 0:01:27Laid out flat, Australia's coastline would stretch around the world.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30The country's 32 times larger than the UK

0:01:30 > 0:01:33but with just a third of the population.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37With all that space, sunshine and plenty of work opportunities,

0:01:37 > 0:01:41it's no surprise the country remains the number-one destination

0:01:41 > 0:01:44for British families seeking a new life overseas.

0:01:45 > 0:01:49Hannah Gaj was firmly of the opinion a move to Australia

0:01:49 > 0:01:52could dramatically improve her family's life.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56Husband Zameer, however, didn't share the dream.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58A year ago, they faced a week down under,

0:01:58 > 0:02:02which would see Hannah's theory put to the test.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04When it was over, they had to make

0:02:04 > 0:02:06the biggest decision of their lives -

0:02:06 > 0:02:10whether to start a new life on the other side of the world

0:02:10 > 0:02:12or stay put in the UK.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16One year ago, the family's trial week began

0:02:16 > 0:02:19with 22 and a half hours in the air,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22flying from London to Brisbane via Dubai and Sydney.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Zameer had found the journey easy enough.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28It's not as bad as I expected.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31But he had mixed emotions about the week ahead.

0:02:31 > 0:02:35A little bit apprehensive but, yeah, very much excited.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Having finally made it to Australia,

0:02:37 > 0:02:41Hannah worried the country might let her down.

0:02:41 > 0:02:45I feel nervous that what I've read on the internet is not real.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48I've told Zameer what a wonderful life we can have over here

0:02:48 > 0:02:50and tried to convince him that it's great

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and that that's not going to transpire...

0:02:52 > 0:02:54I hope that doesn't happen.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57Hannah had just seven days to find out and persuade Zameer

0:02:57 > 0:03:00the family's future lay on the other side of the world.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06In 2015, home for the Gaj family

0:03:06 > 0:03:09was Kingston upon Thames, in Greater London.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13Dad Zameer lived with mum Hannah and Noah, who was four.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15You find all the animals.

0:03:15 > 0:03:16I found tiger...

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Zameer loved having London on his doorstep.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20I found the fish!

0:03:20 > 0:03:24But Hannah had other ideas about where they should call home.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26She's crazy. Help!

0:03:26 > 0:03:30Yeah? She wants to move me to Australia.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34- On a whim.- It's not a whim.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36- It's a whim.- It's not a whim. - It's a whim.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39Hannah had dreamt of a life down under ever since

0:03:39 > 0:03:42her grandparents visited the country ten years earlier.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46They were, like, saying how amazing it was.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49That's kind of, that's the seed that was planted.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52When she qualified as a nurse in 2012,

0:03:52 > 0:03:55Hannah hoped her profession would be her ticket to Australia,

0:03:55 > 0:03:59but the cost of bringing up Noah had forced her to stay put.

0:03:59 > 0:04:03Three years later, her dream was back with a vengeance

0:04:03 > 0:04:07and Zameer knew she would stop at nothing to get her way.

0:04:07 > 0:04:11Hannah is very stubborn, and whenever she wants to do something,

0:04:11 > 0:04:13most of the time, she'll get her way.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17Trying to convince her of anything else is very difficult.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21Both Hannah and operations manager Zameer

0:04:21 > 0:04:26worked shifts and often had just one day a month together with son Noah.

0:04:26 > 0:04:28Though never having been,

0:04:28 > 0:04:32Hannah felt their lives could be transformed in Australia.

0:04:32 > 0:04:33I feel their kind of,

0:04:33 > 0:04:36their vibe and their culture is more of a work/life balance,

0:04:36 > 0:04:38it's more of a relaxed lifestyle.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43She also believed the country would offer them all

0:04:43 > 0:04:44a more active way of life.

0:04:48 > 0:04:50It's cold in England and it's rainy a lot of the time,

0:04:50 > 0:04:52so you do spend a lot of time indoors.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55I think kind of being able to just get out the house in the sun

0:04:55 > 0:04:59and just enjoying outdoor space, I think that would be beneficial.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02Just one thing stood in Hannah's way,

0:05:02 > 0:05:05persuading Zameer to make the move.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07To leave London, such a spectacular place

0:05:07 > 0:05:10with so much depth and history, it would take a lot of convincing.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14Having instigated four house moves in five years,

0:05:14 > 0:05:17Zameer feared Australia was just another of Hannah's moves

0:05:17 > 0:05:19that could backfire.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21I think he thinks I get bored.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23Before, we've just moved and it has been on a whim,

0:05:23 > 0:05:25whereas I've been planning this for so long,

0:05:25 > 0:05:28that it's something that I do really want to do.

0:05:28 > 0:05:31He also worried about leaving loved ones nearby.

0:05:31 > 0:05:34I'm so lucky to have the friends that I do, and family.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37And to say goodbye to all of them would be really difficult.

0:05:37 > 0:05:42And he was wary about starting again on the other side of the world.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44The financial commitment and changing jobs...

0:05:44 > 0:05:48And if it went wrong, just trying to build our life again,

0:05:48 > 0:05:51I'm not prepared to take that gamble, at all.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56In a bid to convince him a move could be worth the upheaval,

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Hannah had spent hours researching Australia online.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02I do look on kind of property websites

0:06:02 > 0:06:04to see what property we can get,

0:06:04 > 0:06:06kind of job websites, different schools.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12But her efforts had fallen on deaf ears.

0:06:12 > 0:06:15Fair enough, Hannah's done a lot of research,

0:06:15 > 0:06:19but to actually commit to a place without ever experiencing it

0:06:19 > 0:06:21is a completely foolish endeavour.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24Hannah was determined not to give up, though.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27I feel like it may have to come to one of those situations

0:06:27 > 0:06:30where I just say it enough and he'll eventually agree.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35That's her stubbornness coming through right there.

0:06:35 > 0:06:40Ahead of them lay a week to discover if Australia could be everything

0:06:40 > 0:06:44Hannah hoped for, and persuade Zameer it was where they should be.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52For their trial week, the family visited Brisbane

0:06:52 > 0:06:53on Australia's east coast.

0:06:53 > 0:06:57Home for the week was a three-bedroom house in West End,

0:06:57 > 0:06:59a cosmopolitan inner-city suburb.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01This way, shall we go in?

0:07:04 > 0:07:06- Whoa.- It's amazing!

0:07:06 > 0:07:09- Is it amazing? - SHE LAUGHS

0:07:09 > 0:07:11This is really nice.

0:07:11 > 0:07:15Outside, Zameer was equally impressed with the garden.

0:07:15 > 0:07:18This whole open-plan deck thing's lovely.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20- I told you.- I love it.

0:07:20 > 0:07:21Kick it, this way.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25While Noah had an impromptu kick-about with Dad,

0:07:25 > 0:07:29Hannah contemplated her Australian experience so far.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33My first impressions are it's hot and sunny.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36I could definitely see myself living here.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39Ultimately, though, she knew her dream would come to nothing

0:07:39 > 0:07:42if the country failed to show Zameer proof

0:07:42 > 0:07:44they'd have a better life down under.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46It has to be right, for me.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50And if that's not the case, I'm not going to make the move.

0:07:50 > 0:07:51End of story, basically it would be.

0:07:59 > 0:08:02In the UK, Zameer, Hannah and Noah

0:08:02 > 0:08:07were living in a rented two-bedroom apartment in Kingston upon Thames.

0:08:07 > 0:08:08It's very convenient,

0:08:08 > 0:08:12we're ten minutes from the train station and the town centre,

0:08:12 > 0:08:16but it's not big enough for our needs.

0:08:16 > 0:08:17If Hannah got her way,

0:08:17 > 0:08:20the couple would be buying their first house in Australia.

0:08:20 > 0:08:24And she had some grand ideas when it came to her ideal home.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27Four bedrooms, really big, fancy swimming pool.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30Huge open-plan, maybe two living rooms,

0:08:30 > 0:08:33one for a playroom, one as like a snug room.

0:08:33 > 0:08:35Really modern, high ceilings,

0:08:35 > 0:08:38because I don't like these boxy new-builds.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41Zameer's expectations were more humble.

0:08:41 > 0:08:45- I just want enough space for all of us, that's it.- And light.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50The couple's budget was £350,000.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53To find out what that could buy them down under,

0:08:53 > 0:08:55we showed them three properties,

0:08:55 > 0:08:59two on budget and a third, which could be their dream home.

0:08:59 > 0:09:01The search began in Forest Lake,

0:09:01 > 0:09:04just over 11 miles from central Brisbane.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06Did this four-bedroom cottage-style home

0:09:06 > 0:09:09meet Hannah's high expectations?

0:09:09 > 0:09:12- Pretty garden.- It's lovely.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15Regardless of the rain, it was a promising start.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17This is really nice.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20- A lot of space.- Ooh, I like that!

0:09:20 > 0:09:24The spacious master bedroom with ensuite impressed everyone.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27- Wow!- Very nice. - Look how big it is.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30And the walk-in wardrobe was a hit with Hannah.

0:09:30 > 0:09:32Oh! Oh, my God, I love it!

0:09:32 > 0:09:36It had the open-plan living style she wanted.

0:09:36 > 0:09:37- That's really nice.- Mummy!

0:09:37 > 0:09:40And the kitchen wasn't short on space either.

0:09:40 > 0:09:42Oh, look how much storage.

0:09:42 > 0:09:46- And outside... - Wow!- This is lovely.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49You'd just spend most of your time here.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51Wow, this is amazing.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54- I'd buy it just for this.- Yeah!

0:09:54 > 0:09:56But was it somewhere they could afford to buy

0:09:56 > 0:09:59on their £350,000 budget?

0:10:00 > 0:10:04I want to go for 475, what are you going for?

0:10:04 > 0:10:06I'm going for 500.

0:10:06 > 0:10:08- Are you ready?- Yeah, go ahead.

0:10:11 > 0:10:12- What?!- No!

0:10:13 > 0:10:17It was £67,000 under budget.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19- That's nothing, really. - Can we buy it?

0:10:19 > 0:10:20That's more than achievable.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23Yeah, I mean, we could definitely hit that mark.

0:10:23 > 0:10:26The Gajs' property search was off to a solid start.

0:10:26 > 0:10:28For their next viewing,

0:10:28 > 0:10:32they moved to the popular inner-city suburb of Greenslopes.

0:10:32 > 0:10:33Was this three-bedroom house

0:10:33 > 0:10:36somewhere the family could see themselves living?

0:10:36 > 0:10:40While Noah took a break, the couple moved inside to find out.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45This is lovely, Hannah, this has character.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47A lot of character as soon as you walk in.

0:10:49 > 0:10:51- Oh, wow. - This is a really nice space.

0:10:51 > 0:10:55This is really nice. And I love the stained-glass windows.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58It's really cute. It's like a snug area.

0:10:58 > 0:11:03Boasting brand-new appliances, the kitchen worked for Zameer.

0:11:03 > 0:11:05- It's a nice-sized kitchen.- Yeah.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08It's open and it's lovely.

0:11:08 > 0:11:12It looked like he was slowly coming round to having an Aussie home,

0:11:12 > 0:11:15but fitting in could have been a problem.

0:11:15 > 0:11:17Do you reckon you'd fit in that?

0:11:17 > 0:11:20- It's a good child's bath.- Yeah.

0:11:20 > 0:11:24Smaller than the last place, the house had gone down well.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27This is what I imagined, like being able to open the doors

0:11:27 > 0:11:29and just go straight into, like, the outside space.

0:11:31 > 0:11:36But, with £350,000 to spend, was it within the couple's reach?

0:11:36 > 0:11:38- Shall I turn it?- Yeah. - The big reveal.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47- Wow.- Ooh, 390.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51That was £40,000 over budget.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53It's a bit over our budget, but...

0:11:53 > 0:11:55Well, no, it's, like, top of our budget.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58- 400 is top, top.- Yeah.

0:11:58 > 0:12:00I'm happy with that.

0:12:00 > 0:12:03Refusing to let the price wash away her dream,

0:12:03 > 0:12:06the search was going in Hannah's favour so far.

0:12:06 > 0:12:10The final stop of the day was the coastal village of Sandgate.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13Would this four-bedroom house meet the Gajs' expectations

0:12:13 > 0:12:15- for an Aussie dream home?- Wow.

0:12:16 > 0:12:18OK, this is big.

0:12:18 > 0:12:19This is huge.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24Split over two floors,

0:12:24 > 0:12:28this bright modern house promised plenty of what Hannah fancied.

0:12:29 > 0:12:32This bathroom is you, definitely.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34I love the mirror.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37The funky furnishings in the open-plan living area

0:12:37 > 0:12:39caught her eye too.

0:12:39 > 0:12:42Oh, I could just spend all day looking at myself!

0:12:42 > 0:12:44And the kitchen was a real showpiece.

0:12:46 > 0:12:48- This is very modern. - Wow, this is so nice.

0:12:48 > 0:12:50Very bold as well, with the black and white.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53Hannah was sold, but what about Zameer?

0:12:53 > 0:12:56But I think it's a bit too garish.

0:12:56 > 0:13:00Staying dry, the couple admired the gardens from inside.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02That's really nice, looking onto the outside.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04And that pool just looks magnificent.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06Upstairs, four double rooms,

0:13:06 > 0:13:10a home cinema and a huge master bedroom were a hit.

0:13:10 > 0:13:11Wow.

0:13:13 > 0:13:14Hannah was blown away.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19- I love the bath.- I love it, too. - Do you?

0:13:19 > 0:13:23And a perfect little boys' room sealed that deal for Noah.

0:13:23 > 0:13:24Wow.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27This is my room!

0:13:27 > 0:13:32It was Hannah's perfect property, but was Zameer in agreement?

0:13:32 > 0:13:34- This is like Mummy's dream house. - This is...

0:13:34 > 0:13:37This isn't really Daddy's dream house, is it?

0:13:37 > 0:13:41It may not have been the property to persuade Zameer to move,

0:13:41 > 0:13:46but with £350,000 to spend, were they able to afford it?

0:13:46 > 0:13:49I really like it and I'll be really upset if it's expensive.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59467,000.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03- Aw!- It's cheaper than I thought it would be.

0:14:03 > 0:14:06It was £117,000 over budget.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09- It's cheaper than I thought, but... - I thought it was that.

0:14:09 > 0:14:10- Did you?- Yeah.

0:14:10 > 0:14:14I'm happy that you can't have it, basically!

0:14:14 > 0:14:17- Oh! But I really like it.- I don't.

0:14:17 > 0:14:20Despite a disappointing end for Hannah, on the whole,

0:14:20 > 0:14:24the couple's day house-hunting had been promising.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27Property One had the pool and space Hannah wanted,

0:14:27 > 0:14:31and at £67,000 under budget, the price was a bonus.

0:14:33 > 0:14:34With its modern interiors,

0:14:34 > 0:14:38Property Two seemed to charm both Hannah and Zameer,

0:14:38 > 0:14:40even with a bath on the petite side.

0:14:41 > 0:14:45And while the final property really was Hannah's ultimate home,

0:14:45 > 0:14:50the style wasn't quite to Zameer's taste and neither was the price.

0:14:50 > 0:14:52So, after everything they'd seen,

0:14:52 > 0:14:55did they choose property in the UK or Australia?

0:15:06 > 0:15:08- Australia.- Yeah.- Thank you!

0:15:08 > 0:15:12We're more likely to get a nicer place with the money we have

0:15:12 > 0:15:15and have a nice size compared to the UK.

0:15:15 > 0:15:16Yeah, definitely.

0:15:16 > 0:15:19Slowly, slowly, I can crack you.

0:15:24 > 0:15:28Zameer's vote for Australia was a great start to Hannah's week,

0:15:28 > 0:15:31but she knew her victory would be short-lived

0:15:31 > 0:15:32unless both she and Zameer

0:15:32 > 0:15:36found the jobs to afford the Australian lifestyle she dreamt of.

0:15:37 > 0:15:41In the UK, the couple juggled shiftwork with looking after Noah.

0:15:41 > 0:15:44Having qualified as a nurse in 2012,

0:15:44 > 0:15:48Hannah had spent the previous 18 months studying midwifery.

0:15:48 > 0:15:50It's been a very intense 18 months,

0:15:50 > 0:15:53but at no point did I doubt that being a midwife

0:15:53 > 0:15:55was something that I wanted to do.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57Could you repeat last on the teams in North, please?

0:15:57 > 0:15:59'Got 80 teams in North.'

0:15:59 > 0:16:01Zameer was an operational manager

0:16:01 > 0:16:04responsible for deployment of security staff

0:16:04 > 0:16:06at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5.

0:16:06 > 0:16:10Persuading him to leave his career behind wouldn't be easy.

0:16:10 > 0:16:13If we emigrated, I would really miss my job.

0:16:13 > 0:16:16I'd miss my job, I'd miss my colleagues, they're all fantastic.

0:16:18 > 0:16:20With Noah looked after by a childminder,

0:16:20 > 0:16:24the couple set out to explore work prospects down under.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27Hannah visited the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital

0:16:27 > 0:16:31where she met with clinical midwife consultant Libby Ryan.

0:16:31 > 0:16:34- Hi, Hannah, I'm Libby. - BOTH:- Nice to meet you!

0:16:34 > 0:16:38First up, a tour of the maternity facilities.

0:16:38 > 0:16:40So, this is one of our beautiful birth centre rooms.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43- It's lovely.- It is lovely. - It is a really, really nice room.

0:16:43 > 0:16:46It was an impressive set-up and Hannah was keen to see

0:16:46 > 0:16:48if she could be part of it.

0:16:48 > 0:16:50Hannah, I think you've got a very good chance

0:16:50 > 0:16:51of getting a job in Australia.

0:16:51 > 0:16:54There's a shortage of midwives everywhere, so we would put you

0:16:54 > 0:16:57in a role that you could go in all areas of care,

0:16:57 > 0:16:59- so you get a little bit of everything.- Yeah.

0:16:59 > 0:17:04It looked like it could be a case of right place, right time for Hannah.

0:17:04 > 0:17:08Across town, Zameer had gone to Brisbane International Airport

0:17:08 > 0:17:10to meet site manager Paul Sharman.

0:17:10 > 0:17:12- How you doing?- Hi.- I'm Paul. - Nice to me you, Paul.

0:17:12 > 0:17:15- Go and have a look around? - Yes, I would love to, cheers.

0:17:15 > 0:17:18Paul advised Zameer he'd have to complete a week-long course

0:17:18 > 0:17:21to work in airport security in Australia.

0:17:21 > 0:17:23And after checking out the equipment,

0:17:23 > 0:17:27Zameer was keen to find out if there might be an opening for him here.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30Look, we're always recruiting screeners

0:17:30 > 0:17:33and that may be your best option, to do a short while of doing that.

0:17:33 > 0:17:36- Yeah.- To get to know how we do things out in Australia.

0:17:36 > 0:17:40Having allocated security staff for Britain's biggest terminal,

0:17:40 > 0:17:44becoming a screener would have been a step back for Zameer.

0:17:44 > 0:17:47Back at the hospital, Hannah was keen to find out

0:17:47 > 0:17:48if being a midwife in Australia

0:17:48 > 0:17:52would facilitate the family time she so badly wanted.

0:17:52 > 0:17:55Rosters are usually family-friendly.

0:17:55 > 0:17:57Antenatal clinic's good when you have little people

0:17:57 > 0:17:59because it's daytime hours.

0:17:59 > 0:18:02But then you've got shiftwork all over the place

0:18:02 > 0:18:04if you're in the ward or birth suite.

0:18:04 > 0:18:05So many options at this hospital.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08- Yeah, it sounds really good. Really encouraging.- Yeah.

0:18:08 > 0:18:12What kind of salary would I expect as a newly qualified midwife?

0:18:12 > 0:18:17Our starting is 62,000 Australian and that's with no shiftwork.

0:18:17 > 0:18:21Just under £30,000 was around £4,000 more

0:18:21 > 0:18:23than Hannah's basic salary in the UK

0:18:23 > 0:18:26and she could earn more with experience.

0:18:26 > 0:18:29Some of our midwives are earning up 100,000 a year.

0:18:29 > 0:18:32- Wow! That's nice.- Yes!

0:18:32 > 0:18:34- I like that answer.- Yes, it's good.

0:18:34 > 0:18:37It was a great result for Hannah.

0:18:37 > 0:18:40Back at the airport, Zameer was finding out

0:18:40 > 0:18:42about his potential working hours.

0:18:42 > 0:18:46For a screening officer, it's basically you work 24 hours.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48Some of the shifts, we've got four-hour shifts,

0:18:48 > 0:18:49some of them are 12-hour shifts.

0:18:49 > 0:18:53It just depends what your particular job is on that day.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55With similar hours to home

0:18:55 > 0:18:59and a screeners basic salary set at around £25,000,

0:18:59 > 0:19:02Zameer would have been worse off working down under.

0:19:02 > 0:19:04But Paul assured him he could quickly work up

0:19:04 > 0:19:06to a shift supervisor role.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10They're probably looking around 60,000-65,000

0:19:10 > 0:19:12and they do four days on,

0:19:12 > 0:19:15four days off, on a 12-hour shift pattern.

0:19:15 > 0:19:17That sounds good.

0:19:17 > 0:19:20Around £30,000 was much better news

0:19:20 > 0:19:24and the shift pattern could give Zameer time with the family.

0:19:24 > 0:19:27So, how did their findings impact on Hannah's dream?

0:19:27 > 0:19:31Has the couple voted on work in Australia versus the UK?

0:19:41 > 0:19:44- Aust... Oh, God!- UK.

0:19:44 > 0:19:45Why?

0:19:45 > 0:19:47It's just basically because I know

0:19:47 > 0:19:49I'm comfortable with my job in the UK.

0:19:49 > 0:19:52- That's such rubbish! - That's why.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55It's a draw at the minute. No?

0:19:55 > 0:19:56- No.- Oh.

0:19:57 > 0:19:59HE SIGHS

0:20:04 > 0:20:06Zameer's reluctance to leave the job he loved

0:20:06 > 0:20:09was a real setback for Hannah.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12But would a taste of the Aussie lifestyle help persuade him

0:20:12 > 0:20:16a professional sacrifice could be a price worth paying?

0:20:16 > 0:20:19The family spent the day exploring Brisbane's South Bank.

0:20:19 > 0:20:23Covering 17 hectares, it's home to lush gardens,

0:20:23 > 0:20:25cafes and river views.

0:20:25 > 0:20:27And for once, the sun was shining.

0:20:27 > 0:20:31- Wow, that's so cool! - Yeah, look at it.

0:20:31 > 0:20:33- Look at all the sand castles you can build.- Lovely.

0:20:33 > 0:20:37With its man-made beach, South Bank's a magnet for families

0:20:37 > 0:20:40and Noah couldn't wait to dive right in.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43- It's freezing! - SHE LAUGHS

0:20:43 > 0:20:45Do paddle, paddle.

0:20:45 > 0:20:49It's somewhere Hannah could picture spending more time.

0:20:49 > 0:20:51This is definitely the environment I'd like for Noah,

0:20:51 > 0:20:53he loves the water.

0:20:53 > 0:20:57And she was confident the chance to spend time with his son

0:20:57 > 0:20:59- was winning over Zameer.- Three!

0:20:59 > 0:21:04This could possibly persuade him to come here, to do this more often.

0:21:04 > 0:21:06A turn in temperature meant she was right.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09I could get used to this lifestyle, it's really good.

0:21:09 > 0:21:12Just having this contrasting weather where you had all that rain

0:21:12 > 0:21:15and now we've got just heat, it's amazing.

0:21:15 > 0:21:17- Say cheese.- Cheese!

0:21:17 > 0:21:22Noah had loved spending quality time with both Mum and Dad.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25What's been your favourite part of the day, Noah?

0:21:25 > 0:21:27- Erm, picnic.- That's nice.

0:21:27 > 0:21:30We could do this all the time if we lived here.

0:21:30 > 0:21:32It had been a perfect day out

0:21:32 > 0:21:35and it looked like being a turning point for Zameer.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38There's just so many things here that you think, "Wow," you know.

0:21:38 > 0:21:41And it just seems to be shaking my foundations a bit.

0:21:41 > 0:21:45But at the same time, thoughts of what he'd be leaving back home

0:21:45 > 0:21:47were playing on his mind.

0:21:47 > 0:21:51To be without my friends and family would be very difficult.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54It's not going to be the same if I move out here

0:21:54 > 0:21:56and that's my biggest fear.

0:21:56 > 0:21:57Zameer was torn.

0:21:57 > 0:22:00For now, though, had the lifestyle done enough

0:22:00 > 0:22:02to secure another vote for Australia?

0:22:14 > 0:22:16- Australia.- Australia.- Australia!

0:22:16 > 0:22:19Can't knock it, it's been amazing.

0:22:19 > 0:22:21It's been such a carefree day.

0:22:21 > 0:22:23It just feels so relaxed.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26I agree with you, I think it's such an easy thing to do.

0:22:26 > 0:22:28- Do you agree?- Yeah. - Good. All agreed.

0:22:36 > 0:22:39Despite Zameer's concerns about leaving loved ones,

0:22:39 > 0:22:41the Australian lifestyle had proved enough

0:22:41 > 0:22:44to put Hannah's dream back on track.

0:22:44 > 0:22:46But with Zameer facing a potential pay cut,

0:22:46 > 0:22:50she knew she'd be back to square one if she couldn't convince him

0:22:50 > 0:22:53the move wouldn't lead to financial ruin.

0:22:53 > 0:22:56While Noah played, Hannah and Zameer prepared to work out

0:22:56 > 0:22:59how figures in Australia compared with the UK.

0:22:59 > 0:23:02Is this the thing that sends you hurtling down to earth?

0:23:04 > 0:23:07Yeah, pretty much. Yeah.

0:23:07 > 0:23:09First up was the weekly shop.

0:23:09 > 0:23:13Strawberry jam... Aw, it's 20p cheaper!

0:23:13 > 0:23:16Bolognese sauce, 104.

0:23:16 > 0:23:18Ooh, that's cheaper as well.

0:23:18 > 0:23:20That's good, I like that.

0:23:20 > 0:23:22Comes to...

0:23:22 > 0:23:27144.06.

0:23:27 > 0:23:29Yeah, it's not bad. 51p difference.

0:23:29 > 0:23:3351p more expensive in Australia.

0:23:33 > 0:23:35- That's nothing. - Yeah, we could manage.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39Next, the bigger monthly bills.

0:23:39 > 0:23:42Basing their figures on the second property they'd viewed...

0:23:42 > 0:23:45The mortgage in Australia will be...

0:23:45 > 0:23:481,770.

0:23:49 > 0:23:51That's a lot.

0:23:51 > 0:23:55Which is what I'm worried about with your wage.

0:23:55 > 0:23:57Things like this being more expensive.

0:23:57 > 0:24:00But totting up all the other outgoings,

0:24:00 > 0:24:03things look better than expected.

0:24:03 > 0:24:05So, 3,507.

0:24:05 > 0:24:093,507.17.

0:24:09 > 0:24:10Which is cheaper.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12Even with a high mortgage payment,

0:24:12 > 0:24:17it looked like they'd spend almost £65 less in Australia every month.

0:24:17 > 0:24:21I like that. I'm very pleased with that.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23And things continued to look good

0:24:23 > 0:24:27when Hannah factored in her potential earnings.

0:24:27 > 0:24:33So, the difference in your income would be 745.

0:24:33 > 0:24:36- I particularly enjoyed that part. - Oh, look...

0:24:36 > 0:24:40Zameer's salary difference wasn't so positive, though.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43- So, you're minus...- 217.62.

0:24:43 > 0:24:49In the UK, the couple spent £272 more than they'd earned every month

0:24:49 > 0:24:53but the final sums in Australia showed they'd have money left over.

0:24:53 > 0:24:57Then we're £592 better off living in Australia.

0:24:57 > 0:24:59I knew I was right!

0:24:59 > 0:25:00I'm rarely wrong.

0:25:02 > 0:25:03Better off.

0:25:03 > 0:25:05We can have a little smiley face.

0:25:07 > 0:25:08And a yay.

0:25:11 > 0:25:13There you go.

0:25:13 > 0:25:18So, when it came to finances, did Zameer vote UK or Australia?

0:25:26 > 0:25:28- Australia.- Australia.

0:25:30 > 0:25:32Yes!

0:25:32 > 0:25:36- Are you happy?- Yeah. I'm happy.

0:25:36 > 0:25:37Yeah, you can't really...

0:25:37 > 0:25:40I don't know, I'm trying to think of ways I could say no

0:25:40 > 0:25:43but, yeah, it's not happening.

0:25:43 > 0:25:44No.

0:25:51 > 0:25:54It looked as though Hannah's dream was well within reach,

0:25:54 > 0:25:56but she was all too aware

0:25:56 > 0:26:01family ties could still prove the ultimate stumbling block for Zameer.

0:26:02 > 0:26:06So, Noah, we're going to watch a video of all the family

0:26:06 > 0:26:08back home in the UK, OK?

0:26:10 > 0:26:12Ready?

0:26:12 > 0:26:13- BOTH:- Hi, Zameer, Hannah and Noah.

0:26:13 > 0:26:16- BOTH:- Hi, Zameer, Hannah and Noah.

0:26:16 > 0:26:18I can't imagine them being so far away,

0:26:18 > 0:26:22they're a great team and they've bonded and they've grown

0:26:22 > 0:26:24in the last four and a half years

0:26:24 > 0:26:26since Noah's born and I'm really proud of them.

0:26:27 > 0:26:29Zameer may not know it but he should

0:26:29 > 0:26:31know that I actually care about him,

0:26:31 > 0:26:35and he's like, he used to be my favourite sibling at one point.

0:26:35 > 0:26:37Used to. You see that? Past tense.

0:26:37 > 0:26:41'Noah's the only great grandchild.'

0:26:41 > 0:26:43It was always a bit of a joke with Hannah, to say,

0:26:43 > 0:26:46"When are you going to make me a great-grandma, Hannah?"

0:26:46 > 0:26:52And she did and now he's four and a half,

0:26:52 > 0:26:54it's just magic, having him around.

0:26:54 > 0:26:58Noah is very close to me

0:26:58 > 0:27:00and whenever he sees me, he just jumps up and hugs me.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03I'm going to miss all that when Noah moves.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06It's something that is going to take me a long time to get used to.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08I think they're going to have to move out of London.

0:27:08 > 0:27:11I think Australia could be a good option for them.

0:27:11 > 0:27:15You know, I think she sees Australia as quite an opportunity

0:27:15 > 0:27:17and so she should at their age.

0:27:17 > 0:27:22If they decide that their quality of life is better there than here,

0:27:22 > 0:27:25the three of them, then they should go there.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28I would not like them to go to Australia, that's my final answer.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31And not...

0:27:31 > 0:27:33Because Noah means a lot to me.

0:27:34 > 0:27:36The distance is just too far.

0:27:36 > 0:27:39Even living in London,

0:27:39 > 0:27:41not seeing him for a few weeks,

0:27:41 > 0:27:43you think, "He's going to forget me."

0:27:43 > 0:27:45Or he's not going to love me as much as everybody else.

0:27:45 > 0:27:47'We love him so much!'

0:27:47 > 0:27:50Even if I'm not happy about it,

0:27:50 > 0:27:52at the end of the day, it's your life.

0:27:52 > 0:27:57So, you think about it and make the decision accordingly.

0:27:57 > 0:28:00I think you need to do what's best for you.

0:28:00 > 0:28:02I will always keep in touch, I will always visit,

0:28:02 > 0:28:05I will always love you and you know that and I'm at the end of the phone

0:28:05 > 0:28:07no matter where you are in the world.

0:28:07 > 0:28:10You do what's best for you and I'll still be there.

0:28:13 > 0:28:15How do you feel watching that?

0:28:16 > 0:28:17The gist I got was that...

0:28:19 > 0:28:20..everyone's going to miss Noah...

0:28:20 > 0:28:23and maybe Hannah and Zameer!

0:28:23 > 0:28:24Isn't it?

0:28:24 > 0:28:29And it's always upsetting and I knew my family are kind of

0:28:29 > 0:28:31resistant to us coming out here anyway.

0:28:31 > 0:28:33It's a bit like, "We don't want you to go

0:28:33 > 0:28:36"but we kind of know you're going to go, so we'll support you."

0:28:36 > 0:28:39To be removed and...

0:28:39 > 0:28:42Being a gamble whether I see them or not, it's going to be a big deal.

0:28:42 > 0:28:44Messages from home had been a reminder

0:28:44 > 0:28:48of what the couple stood to lose if they made the move.

0:28:48 > 0:28:51As the final vote approached, would Zameer's doubts

0:28:51 > 0:28:56be enough to ground Hannah's flight of fancy once and for all?

0:28:56 > 0:28:59Her first taste of Australia had reinforced Hannah's vision

0:28:59 > 0:29:02of a better future for her family down under.

0:29:02 > 0:29:04Everything that I've seen this week

0:29:04 > 0:29:07has just kind of solidified everything that I thought

0:29:07 > 0:29:09for the past couple of years.

0:29:09 > 0:29:10Abracadabra!

0:29:10 > 0:29:13Despite his initial opposition,

0:29:13 > 0:29:15the week had shown Zameer plenty of potential.

0:29:15 > 0:29:18Australia's been fantastic. I can't really knock it.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21Australia just comes up trumps on most things,

0:29:21 > 0:29:24so it's hard to argue against.

0:29:24 > 0:29:26But despite everything it offered,

0:29:26 > 0:29:30he was struggling with the thought of leaving loved ones at home.

0:29:30 > 0:29:33I'd miss my family a lot.

0:29:33 > 0:29:35It'd take its toll on me.

0:29:35 > 0:29:37It would be heartbreaking for me.

0:29:37 > 0:29:41And Hannah feared his concerns would put paid to her dream.

0:29:42 > 0:29:46I just get that underlying feeling that he's just not going to do it.

0:29:46 > 0:29:49So, had the family's trial week done enough

0:29:49 > 0:29:52to secure Hannah the future she'd wanted for so long?

0:30:03 > 0:30:05- BOTH:- Australia.

0:30:05 > 0:30:08- For sure, for sure? - For sure, for sure.

0:30:08 > 0:30:11That was two for sures, so that must be definite.

0:30:11 > 0:30:14Yeah, I just completely lost that battle. Isn't it, Noah?

0:30:14 > 0:30:16I've accomplished what I set out to achieve.

0:30:16 > 0:30:18So, I'm happy of that.

0:30:27 > 0:30:30Despite his resistance and practical concerns,

0:30:30 > 0:30:35Zameer's vote for Australia meant Hannah had triumphed yet again

0:30:35 > 0:30:38and she was delighted at the prospect of more family time

0:30:38 > 0:30:40together in the sunshine.

0:30:40 > 0:30:45We caught up with them one year on to find out what happened next.

0:30:47 > 0:30:51It's September 2016 and the Gaj family have moved to...

0:30:51 > 0:30:57Buckinghamshire in the UK, but hopefully not for too much longer.

0:30:57 > 0:31:00Since we last saw them, they've gone from being a family of three

0:31:00 > 0:31:03to a family of four.

0:31:03 > 0:31:06Oh, well, it was nice while it lasted.

0:31:06 > 0:31:09The baby is called Faris, which is a Muslim name.

0:31:09 > 0:31:11Zameer chose it.

0:31:11 > 0:31:15He wanted that name for Noah so I agreed that I named Noah,

0:31:15 > 0:31:16he named this baby.

0:31:16 > 0:31:21Hannah and Zameer are delighted with the new addition to the family.

0:31:21 > 0:31:23He's kind of docile, which we really need

0:31:23 > 0:31:25because Noah's so energetic.

0:31:25 > 0:31:29- I can make him smile. - Go on, then.- OK!

0:31:30 > 0:31:34It took a while for Noah to get used to the idea, though.

0:31:34 > 0:31:36He's smiling! He's smiling!

0:31:36 > 0:31:38In the beginning, he was very upset

0:31:38 > 0:31:41that he was no longer the only child.

0:31:41 > 0:31:45He wasn't too impressed that someone else was taking all the attention,

0:31:45 > 0:31:47but now he's very good with him.

0:31:47 > 0:31:50I love him and I'm the older brother.

0:31:51 > 0:31:56Having baby Faris hasn't changed Hannah's focus on a move down under.

0:31:57 > 0:31:59Yeah, do you think you'd be able to adapt to the heat?

0:31:59 > 0:32:01It'd take you long, man, trust me.

0:32:01 > 0:32:05We had one hot day in August and we were losing our minds.

0:32:05 > 0:32:07They have air-conditioning in their houses.

0:32:07 > 0:32:09Yeah, I mean, they're built for it.

0:32:09 > 0:32:13The trial week had been everything she'd hoped for.

0:32:13 > 0:32:17It was nice to know that everything I had researched and been looking at

0:32:17 > 0:32:19for years was actually true.

0:32:19 > 0:32:22It had opened Zameer's eyes to the kind of future

0:32:22 > 0:32:23Australia could offer.

0:32:23 > 0:32:26I'll be fine, I'll get a nice tan.

0:32:26 > 0:32:30- Hmm. What, a red one?- Not with factor 50, I tan quite well.

0:32:30 > 0:32:33'All my arguments seemed to be nullified within a couple of days.'

0:32:33 > 0:32:37I could see myself living there, I'm convinced that could be a reality.

0:32:39 > 0:32:43And Noah could also see the attractions of Aussie living.

0:32:43 > 0:32:45I liked Australia because I liked

0:32:45 > 0:32:48the beach and the swimming pools.

0:32:48 > 0:32:51All he could talk about was Australia, he still does,

0:32:51 > 0:32:52that's all he talks about.

0:32:52 > 0:32:54So, where's Australia on the map?

0:32:55 > 0:32:56Yeah, and where were we?

0:32:56 > 0:32:59We were there. Somewhere in Queensland.

0:32:59 > 0:33:03I think he loved how much we hung out as a family, so...

0:33:06 > 0:33:08Zameer's vote for Oz at the end of the week

0:33:08 > 0:33:10was a huge relief for Hannah.

0:33:11 > 0:33:13I was never too sure how he was really feeling about it

0:33:13 > 0:33:16till the end, but when he did vote for Australia,

0:33:16 > 0:33:19it made it easier because we were going to go anyway.

0:33:19 > 0:33:21- So, at least he's happy about it. - HE LAUGHS

0:33:21 > 0:33:23But arriving back in the UK,

0:33:23 > 0:33:27she was concerned Zameer might still change his mind.

0:33:27 > 0:33:30I did feel that maybe he got caught up in all the emotion of it

0:33:30 > 0:33:34while we were out there and maybe when we got back home,

0:33:34 > 0:33:37the reality would dawn on him and he'd decide actually

0:33:37 > 0:33:38it's not what he wanted.

0:33:38 > 0:33:41I was sold but still a bit apprehensive.

0:33:42 > 0:33:47Leaving nothing to chance, Hannah got the ball rolling straightaway.

0:33:47 > 0:33:49- The crocodile show?- Yeah.

0:33:49 > 0:33:51The one we saw at the zoo.

0:33:51 > 0:33:55'Pretty much the next day, I was booking for my skills assessments,'

0:33:55 > 0:33:57looking at more stuff about Australia,

0:33:57 > 0:34:00looking at the property apps I have on my phone,

0:34:00 > 0:34:02just to kind of keep that going.

0:34:02 > 0:34:04You were relentless, weren't you?

0:34:04 > 0:34:07- Faris! Mummy! - You're going to show Mum...?

0:34:08 > 0:34:12The family moved in with Hannah's grandparents to save money

0:34:12 > 0:34:13and when word came through

0:34:13 > 0:34:15their initial visa application had been approved,

0:34:15 > 0:34:19Hannah took matters into her own hands.

0:34:19 > 0:34:21I applied and paid for the visas.

0:34:23 > 0:34:27Having spent over £3,000 without consulting Zameer,

0:34:27 > 0:34:30she was nervous about breaking the news.

0:34:32 > 0:34:37Next thing you know, I get a text with a picture of her receipt

0:34:37 > 0:34:39for paying for the visas.

0:34:39 > 0:34:42Yeah, which didn't go down that well.

0:34:42 > 0:34:45I was pretty mad at that point and I've been mad for a long time

0:34:45 > 0:34:49because I thought she made that decision without my input.

0:34:51 > 0:34:54He wasn't very happy, he was quite angry

0:34:54 > 0:34:57and he definitely didn't talk to me for a good while.

0:35:00 > 0:35:02I made it quite clear how upset I was at this decision

0:35:02 > 0:35:05and I pretty much carried that through

0:35:05 > 0:35:06till the end of the pregnancy.

0:35:07 > 0:35:11But Hannah was convinced she had made the right move.

0:35:11 > 0:35:14I know that their rules and regulations change all the time

0:35:14 > 0:35:16and I just didn't want to miss that opportunity.

0:35:25 > 0:35:27Score!

0:35:27 > 0:35:30Shortly after the couple arrived back from the trial week,

0:35:30 > 0:35:33Zameer's parents made the shock announcement

0:35:33 > 0:35:35they were moving to America.

0:35:35 > 0:35:36It happened very quickly.

0:35:36 > 0:35:39They announced it and then, I think a week later, they actually went.

0:35:39 > 0:35:42So, that was kind of a big shock for everybody.

0:35:44 > 0:35:48Didn't give anybody time to actually process what was going on,

0:35:48 > 0:35:50so I'm a bit disappointed that they went, to be honest,

0:35:50 > 0:35:53and a bit upset that they left in such a manner.

0:35:54 > 0:35:58Noah's found the separation hard to come to terms with.

0:35:58 > 0:36:02Because Grandad and Grandma are in America...

0:36:04 > 0:36:06..I miss them very much.

0:36:06 > 0:36:10And he can't quite comprehend why we can't go and see them.

0:36:10 > 0:36:12I think he finds that quite upsetting.

0:36:15 > 0:36:19So, I suppose that's kind of, in a way, preparing him

0:36:19 > 0:36:21for what it's like when we move.

0:36:21 > 0:36:23When we do go to Australia,

0:36:23 > 0:36:26I think I will give people the appropriate amount of time

0:36:26 > 0:36:28to actually process the information

0:36:28 > 0:36:30and come to terms with it because that's very important.

0:36:33 > 0:36:36Their departure gave Hannah food for thought.

0:36:36 > 0:36:41It has made me reflect and feel bad that I'm taking Noah away

0:36:41 > 0:36:43from kind of my side of the family as well,

0:36:43 > 0:36:48especially when he's lost Zameer's side of the family.

0:36:48 > 0:36:49Yeah.

0:36:51 > 0:36:54Still the couple ploughed ahead with plans to move

0:36:54 > 0:36:56but things ground to a halt

0:36:56 > 0:36:58when Hannah fell ill during her pregnancy.

0:36:58 > 0:37:00It literally put everything on hold.

0:37:00 > 0:37:04She suffered from, like, an almost debilitating condition.

0:37:04 > 0:37:07You were in bed for almost three months because of the pregnancy,

0:37:07 > 0:37:10so that was very difficult to deal with.

0:37:10 > 0:37:12Everything was up in the air at that point in time.

0:37:12 > 0:37:14Suffering from a rare disorder,

0:37:14 > 0:37:17Hannah was forced to spend months in hospital.

0:37:17 > 0:37:20The family really came through and helped us out.

0:37:20 > 0:37:23Realising how dependent they were on family,

0:37:23 > 0:37:26Zameer began to have doubts about a move.

0:37:26 > 0:37:30It was a scary thought that because of how sick she was,

0:37:30 > 0:37:32how hopeless we were at that point...

0:37:34 > 0:37:38I was very negative about Australia in that time period.

0:37:38 > 0:37:39A very scary time.

0:37:41 > 0:37:44Fortunately, Hannah's health gradually improved, though,

0:37:44 > 0:37:46and deciding they needed a place of their own,

0:37:46 > 0:37:49the couple decided to make one final move in the UK.

0:37:56 > 0:37:58'Moving into our own house a couple of weeks'

0:37:58 > 0:38:01before the baby was born was a bit stressful.

0:38:01 > 0:38:04Things didn't turn out as we planned and the baby came

0:38:04 > 0:38:08a week early, so we still had loads of unpacking to do.

0:38:08 > 0:38:11Home for now is this rented three-bedroom terraced house

0:38:11 > 0:38:13in Buckinghamshire.

0:38:13 > 0:38:15We're in a village,

0:38:15 > 0:38:19which is quite different to where we were living in Kingston.

0:38:19 > 0:38:21It's very quiet.

0:38:21 > 0:38:26The area of here is really nice and picturesque, but it is quite...

0:38:26 > 0:38:27- It's too quiet.- Mm-hm.

0:38:29 > 0:38:31It does have some advantages, though.

0:38:31 > 0:38:33It's a big change from London.

0:38:33 > 0:38:35It's been a good trade-off for the kids.

0:38:35 > 0:38:38Definitely having a lot bigger living room,

0:38:38 > 0:38:40not only for Noah's toys,

0:38:40 > 0:38:42but now we've got another one and they're both boys,

0:38:42 > 0:38:43for them to run around.

0:38:45 > 0:38:47Never be tidy again.

0:38:47 > 0:38:50- Mm!- He agrees.

0:38:52 > 0:38:55- Little brother.- Little brother.

0:38:55 > 0:39:00Baby Faris's arrival has left the Gajs' loved ones less enthusiastic

0:39:00 > 0:39:03about their plans to move down under.

0:39:03 > 0:39:05Everyone was very positive in their messages

0:39:05 > 0:39:07whilst we were in Australia.

0:39:07 > 0:39:10When I broke that news to them, it's kind of gone

0:39:10 > 0:39:13- completely the opposite now, hasn't it?- Yeah.

0:39:13 > 0:39:16We now get told, "No, you're not moving."

0:39:16 > 0:39:18The thought of being on opposite sides of the globe

0:39:18 > 0:39:20from her grandchildren

0:39:20 > 0:39:23is something Hannah's mum can barely contemplate.

0:39:24 > 0:39:27- He's always happy when you pick him up.- He loves me, don't you?

0:39:27 > 0:39:30At the time, I was, "If that's what they want to do,

0:39:30 > 0:39:32"fully support them," and I've changed my mind.

0:39:34 > 0:39:36I don't think it crossed their mind

0:39:36 > 0:39:39that it would actually become a reality, so I don't...

0:39:39 > 0:39:42I think they thought this would be it, they're having another baby,

0:39:42 > 0:39:44they'll definitely stay here.

0:39:44 > 0:39:47She's taking my grandchildren away from me.

0:39:47 > 0:39:51I think the benefits of being around their grandparents

0:39:51 > 0:39:55and other family members outweigh the benefits of going to Australia.

0:39:58 > 0:40:01You can't replace us, Hannah, and we can't replace you.

0:40:02 > 0:40:04Ready, and...

0:40:04 > 0:40:06Oh, shame!

0:40:06 > 0:40:10However, for Hannah, the sadness of leaving her mother behind

0:40:10 > 0:40:12is outweighed by the brighter future

0:40:12 > 0:40:14she believes Australia offers her children.

0:40:14 > 0:40:17No! He snatched it off me and I got it first!

0:40:17 > 0:40:19'We're kind of more of a family unit now,

0:40:19 > 0:40:23'we've kind of expanded and just to want that lifestyle for them'

0:40:23 > 0:40:25and the opportunities in Australia for them.

0:40:25 > 0:40:29'So, now that the baby's born, we can start focusing on that again.'

0:40:30 > 0:40:35But when they will actually make the move has still to be decided.

0:40:35 > 0:40:38Yay! I'm winning. Ah!

0:40:38 > 0:40:42I have no specific timeline on when to go to Australia,

0:40:42 > 0:40:44even if it takes a couple of years.

0:40:44 > 0:40:48I wouldn't say a couple of years, I think that's too long!

0:40:48 > 0:40:51Hannah is itching to go as soon as possible.

0:40:51 > 0:40:55I've had all my midwifery skills assessed and approved

0:40:55 > 0:40:58by the board in Australia.

0:40:58 > 0:41:02We've paid for our visas and we just need to do the medicals,

0:41:02 > 0:41:05basically, to finalise it and then we can start looking for jobs,

0:41:05 > 0:41:08which may take a couple of months, six months.

0:41:08 > 0:41:13I'm hoping this time next year, that we will be out in Australia.

0:41:13 > 0:41:17Hannah has these ideas that we'll move out as soon as possible,

0:41:17 > 0:41:19but I don't think it's fair to everyone else.

0:41:19 > 0:41:22If we're going to do this move, we do it correctly

0:41:22 > 0:41:24and we plan things properly and we make sure

0:41:24 > 0:41:27that it's as stress-free as possible.

0:41:30 > 0:41:33Hannah's clear on how she sees life shaping up

0:41:33 > 0:41:35on the other side of the world.

0:41:35 > 0:41:37To have a nice house,

0:41:37 > 0:41:43to have a good work-life balance, full of lots of family activities.

0:41:50 > 0:41:53But Zameer's still erring on the cautious side.

0:41:53 > 0:41:57The move to Australia I find exciting but scary.

0:41:57 > 0:42:01And getting over that two-year period where you're homesick,

0:42:01 > 0:42:03that's what is going to be quite tricky.

0:42:05 > 0:42:07But I am very excited.

0:42:12 > 0:42:14Whatever the timeframe,

0:42:14 > 0:42:17there's no doubt that the family are destined for down under.

0:42:17 > 0:42:20Yeah, I think my family's future does lie in Australia.

0:42:20 > 0:42:24I think there's a lot more options for the kids

0:42:24 > 0:42:27and there's a lot more life to experience there

0:42:27 > 0:42:29than there is over here, I think.

0:42:29 > 0:42:32So, in ten years' time, if I'm in the pool

0:42:32 > 0:42:35and I've got meat on the barbecue, I'll be happy.

0:42:40 > 0:42:43I've spent too many years thinking about this

0:42:43 > 0:42:45to not go through with it.

0:42:45 > 0:42:47Yeah. It kind of has to happen.

0:42:56 > 0:43:00It's been a very big year for the Gaj family

0:43:00 > 0:43:02and although not quite there yet,

0:43:02 > 0:43:06their sights are still firmly set on Australia.

0:43:06 > 0:43:10We wish Zameer, Hannah, Noah and baby Faris

0:43:10 > 0:43:14the happiest of times together when they finally make it down under.
