0:00:02 > 0:00:05Leaving everyone and everything you know to move halfway across
0:00:05 > 0:00:09the world isn't for the faint-hearted,
0:00:09 > 0:00:12so, how would you convince the love of your life to do it
0:00:12 > 0:00:14for the second time?
0:00:14 > 0:00:18In 2015, Richard and Nieva Restarick made the trip to Australia
0:00:18 > 0:00:20to find out.
0:00:20 > 0:00:25Today, we'll catch up with them to see if they're now living at home
0:00:25 > 0:00:26or away.
0:00:29 > 0:00:32Richard Restarick had been yearning for a life in Australia ever since
0:00:32 > 0:00:34a visit in his youth...
0:00:35 > 0:00:37It would mean a massive amount to me.
0:00:37 > 0:00:41It's just something which has constantly been a thorn in my side.
0:00:41 > 0:00:44..but his wife and daughter weren't keen on a move.
0:00:44 > 0:00:47I'm going to put my foot down and I'm not going to go.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50While a week in Australia almost won them round...
0:00:50 > 0:00:52Oh, my God!
0:00:52 > 0:00:54See? Now you're talking.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56This is a perfect house to live in.
0:00:56 > 0:00:59..the thought of leaving loved ones left them torn.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01I feel very sad.
0:01:01 > 0:01:05One year on, which side of the world do the family now call home?
0:01:05 > 0:01:09I believe we have made the right decision for our family so far.
0:01:09 > 0:01:10So far.
0:01:33 > 0:01:37Every week, the equivalent of a jumbo jet full of Brits leave the UK
0:01:37 > 0:01:39to start a new life in Australia -
0:01:39 > 0:01:44a country with nearly 40,000 miles of stunning coastline and an average
0:01:44 > 0:01:46temperature of 22 degrees,
0:01:46 > 0:01:49but not all that glitters is gold -
0:01:49 > 0:01:52around half of those making the move end up returning home.
0:01:54 > 0:01:59In 2015, Richard Restarick was a man on a mission.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02Having wanted to live in Australia since his late teens,
0:02:02 > 0:02:06the pressure of running his own business had made his desire to move
0:02:06 > 0:02:10stronger than ever, but there was one major stumbling block
0:02:10 > 0:02:13in Richard's way - wife Nieva.
0:02:13 > 0:02:16Having already crossed continents once to be with him,
0:02:16 > 0:02:20she didn't fancy doing it all over again.
0:02:20 > 0:02:23One year later, we'll find out if Richard was on
0:02:23 > 0:02:25a Mission: Impossible.
0:02:26 > 0:02:30One year ago, the family's trip to Australia involved a gruelling
0:02:30 > 0:02:3234-hour journey,
0:02:32 > 0:02:36including a nine-hour delay in Kuala Lumpur to get to Adelaide.
0:02:36 > 0:02:40When they finally touched down, the flight had clearly affected Richard.
0:02:40 > 0:02:41After the journey, we're really tired.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44It's been that long since, I've even forgotten where I am.
0:02:44 > 0:02:49On the journey to here, my dad just got his head on the...
0:02:49 > 0:02:52Looking at him on the seats, it was like...
0:02:53 > 0:02:57The long trip had given everyone plenty of time to think about the
0:02:57 > 0:02:59distance they were putting between family.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02That's not fair for Grandma.
0:03:02 > 0:03:04It's not fair for your mum to travel that far.
0:03:04 > 0:03:07I don't think they're going to make it. Nobody will come.
0:03:07 > 0:03:11It was his first trip to Australia since 2005
0:03:11 > 0:03:13and Richard was keen to see if the country
0:03:13 > 0:03:16would live up to his expectations.
0:03:16 > 0:03:18I need to get outside and start exploring, to be honest.
0:03:18 > 0:03:20I can't wait to get out of the airport and have a look round
0:03:20 > 0:03:22and just see if it's how I remember it.
0:03:23 > 0:03:25As they headed off into Adelaide,
0:03:25 > 0:03:28their entire future was riding on what would unfold over
0:03:28 > 0:03:30the next seven days.
0:03:40 > 0:03:42In 2015, the Restaricks -
0:03:42 > 0:03:45dad Richard, mum Nieva, and Izzy, then seven -
0:03:45 > 0:03:46were living in Norfolk.
0:03:49 > 0:03:53Nieva had come a long way from a hard upbringing in the Philippines.
0:03:53 > 0:03:56We live in a squatters' area.
0:03:56 > 0:03:59Financially, we cannot buy everything that we want.
0:03:59 > 0:04:02It's very tough to live there.
0:04:05 > 0:04:09Meanwhile, 7,000 miles away, future husband Richard,
0:04:09 > 0:04:10then in his late teens,
0:04:10 > 0:04:14was jetting off on the trip of a lifetime to Australia with his mum.
0:04:14 > 0:04:15We travelled quite a bit.
0:04:15 > 0:04:19We done quite a lot of Australia and we really, really enjoyed it.
0:04:19 > 0:04:22When I came back in September, from Australia,
0:04:22 > 0:04:24I was then saving up to travel round
0:04:24 > 0:04:27and do a bit of backpacking by myself.
0:04:27 > 0:04:30But all the plans were put on hold when stars collided
0:04:30 > 0:04:33and he met the love of his life online.
0:04:33 > 0:04:35Courtesy of Bill Gates, really. It was...
0:04:38 > 0:04:40The couple quickly fell for each other.
0:04:40 > 0:04:43Ten months later, Nieva was by his side in the UK
0:04:43 > 0:04:45and they were married,
0:04:45 > 0:04:48but the romance meant Richard's Australia savings were gone.
0:04:50 > 0:04:54Everything I had saved up basically went into getting Nieva back here.
0:04:54 > 0:04:57Everything for Australia had just vanished.
0:04:57 > 0:05:02For Nieva, leaving her home country and family had been tough.
0:05:02 > 0:05:06It's very hard to leave them because it's my life.
0:05:06 > 0:05:08It was a tough time, that time.
0:05:10 > 0:05:11Slowly and surely, over the years,
0:05:11 > 0:05:15she'd built a solid social circle in England.
0:05:15 > 0:05:18My friends here in the UK, they're quite crazy and fun.
0:05:18 > 0:05:21# Why do you build me up, Buttercup?
0:05:21 > 0:05:24# Baby, just to let me down... #
0:05:24 > 0:05:27When I see them, we go out, we go for a disco...
0:05:27 > 0:05:30We're crazy enough to enjoy each other's company.
0:05:30 > 0:05:33But the picture wasn't as rosy for Richard.
0:05:33 > 0:05:34Working long hours,
0:05:34 > 0:05:37the responsibilities that came with running a car mechanic's business
0:05:37 > 0:05:39had put him under pressure.
0:05:39 > 0:05:41We've been through a really tough time recently.
0:05:41 > 0:05:43We had to make a couple of people redundant,
0:05:43 > 0:05:46and it's been a lot...a lot of stress.
0:05:46 > 0:05:48I work so many hours.
0:05:51 > 0:05:55Once again, Richard's thoughts had returned to Australia...
0:05:55 > 0:05:58It's definitely become more of a burning issue recently.
0:05:58 > 0:06:00With everything that's been happening at work,
0:06:00 > 0:06:02it would mean a massive amount to me to move to Australia.
0:06:02 > 0:06:06..but he knew he'd have a fight on his hands persuading Nieva.
0:06:06 > 0:06:09Having already moved across the world once,
0:06:09 > 0:06:11she wasn't keen on doing it again.
0:06:11 > 0:06:15Leaving everything behind again - starting all over again -
0:06:15 > 0:06:18is that meaning me not having friends for a year?
0:06:18 > 0:06:22Somebody to...Izzy...somebody to play with?
0:06:22 > 0:06:24Not having that again, not at this age...
0:06:24 > 0:06:27Izzy was with her mum on opposing the move.
0:06:27 > 0:06:31My dad told me that ever since he was young, he...
0:06:31 > 0:06:34he wanted to go to Australia.
0:06:36 > 0:06:39I never wanted to because I'll really miss my friends and family
0:06:39 > 0:06:41who live here.
0:06:41 > 0:06:45Richard hoped Australia could give his family a brighter future
0:06:45 > 0:06:47but Nieva would be tough to persuade.
0:06:47 > 0:06:52If this proves wrong, and I really have a strong feeling this is wrong,
0:06:52 > 0:06:55I'm going to put my foot down and I'm not going to go.
0:07:06 > 0:07:09The Restaricks spent their trial week in Adelaide,
0:07:09 > 0:07:13voted Australia's most liveable city three years in a row.
0:07:13 > 0:07:15Their base for the week was in Seacliff,
0:07:15 > 0:07:18just a 20-minute drive from the city centre.
0:07:23 > 0:07:26It was wet and dark when the family arrived,
0:07:26 > 0:07:29but that didn't dampen Richard's spirits.
0:07:29 > 0:07:31Wow. This is nice.
0:07:31 > 0:07:33- Oh, this looks so cute, eh?- Wow.
0:07:33 > 0:07:36As they settled in, Richard knew he'd got his work cut out,
0:07:36 > 0:07:40especially having arrived in less than ideal conditions.
0:07:40 > 0:07:43I think I've got to really pull out the stops during this week
0:07:43 > 0:07:45to convince them, after the rain and everything,
0:07:45 > 0:07:48but I think the weather's going to improve, you know,
0:07:48 > 0:07:49and they'll enjoy that.
0:07:49 > 0:07:53Izzy's castle bed can fit in quite nicely there, won't it?
0:07:53 > 0:07:54No...
0:07:54 > 0:07:58But it looked like there was another storm on the horizon,
0:07:58 > 0:08:01in the shape of Nieva's concerns about uprooting her life
0:08:01 > 0:08:02for a second time.
0:08:02 > 0:08:05It's pretty scary, to be honest.
0:08:05 > 0:08:10I mean, when I moved to the UK, I'm still...I'm young and...
0:08:10 > 0:08:13You know, with yourself, when you're young, you easily get friends.
0:08:13 > 0:08:14Look at these.
0:08:14 > 0:08:17Richard was well aware he'd also have to sell the dream
0:08:17 > 0:08:18to his daughter.
0:08:22 > 0:08:25You know, she's got as much right in this family to make a decision as
0:08:25 > 0:08:27what me and Nieva both have,
0:08:27 > 0:08:30and if she's not convinced, and Nieva's not convinced,
0:08:30 > 0:08:31then it's a no-go.
0:08:31 > 0:08:35You know, it's going to be an end of the line for us.
0:08:35 > 0:08:40If I move here, I'll really miss my very close friends at school
0:08:40 > 0:08:44and some...and a lot at school.
0:08:44 > 0:08:48With love having got in the way of his last return to Australia,
0:08:48 > 0:08:51Richard knew the week ahead could be his final shot at
0:08:51 > 0:08:53calling the country home.
0:08:53 > 0:08:56I've got the chance to prove to my family that
0:08:56 > 0:08:58it's the right thing to do.
0:08:58 > 0:09:00Yeah, there's a lot riding on this week.
0:09:10 > 0:09:14In 2015, the Restaricks were living in a detached house
0:09:14 > 0:09:17in a quiet part of Thetford in Norfolk.
0:09:18 > 0:09:20We love this house, don't we? It's everything I wanted.
0:09:20 > 0:09:23We've got a room big enough to watch TV in, and with the speakers
0:09:23 > 0:09:25and everything I want in it.
0:09:25 > 0:09:29The family's budget for a home in Australia was £300,000,
0:09:29 > 0:09:32and one thing was right at the top of Richard's wish list.
0:09:33 > 0:09:36- Swimming pool.- Yeah.
0:09:36 > 0:09:38Don't care. That's it.
0:09:38 > 0:09:39If there's a swimming pool,
0:09:39 > 0:09:41- it's going to be a proper dream house.- Yeah.
0:09:41 > 0:09:44The Australian house has to be better.
0:09:48 > 0:09:52To find out what kind of house their money could buy them in Adelaide,
0:09:52 > 0:09:54we showed Richard and Nieva three properties -
0:09:54 > 0:09:58two on budget and a third which could have been their dream home.
0:09:58 > 0:10:00For their first viewing,
0:10:00 > 0:10:03the family travelled northwards along the coast to Henley Beach.
0:10:03 > 0:10:05Just 15 minutes from the city,
0:10:05 > 0:10:09would this three-bedroom home be enough to wow Nieva?
0:10:10 > 0:10:13Outside, first impressions were good.
0:10:13 > 0:10:15It's very pretty.
0:10:15 > 0:10:18Inside, reactions were positive, too...
0:10:18 > 0:10:20- Wow!- Oh. Oh, wow.
0:10:20 > 0:10:22- Oh, wow!- Whoa.
0:10:22 > 0:10:24Wow.
0:10:24 > 0:10:26That's beautiful.
0:10:26 > 0:10:27..until the master suite.
0:10:27 > 0:10:29Ah! Mummy and Daddy's room.
0:10:29 > 0:10:30Wow!
0:10:30 > 0:10:33One Aussie feature seemed to be missing.
0:10:33 > 0:10:36The only one this house hasn't got is the built-in wardrobe,
0:10:36 > 0:10:39- which I thought all Australian houses got.- Yeah.
0:10:39 > 0:10:41But, on closer inspection...
0:10:41 > 0:10:44- Wow!- Whoa!
0:10:44 > 0:10:45Where is my wardrobe going?
0:10:45 > 0:10:47- It's mine! It's mine!- Whoa!
0:10:47 > 0:10:49- It's both.- My shoe rack!
0:10:49 > 0:10:52The positive vibes continued in the kitchen.
0:10:52 > 0:10:54- Goodness!- I told you. - NIEVA LAUGHS
0:10:54 > 0:10:56- Wow!- Oh, my gosh!
0:10:56 > 0:10:57That's it.
0:10:57 > 0:10:59- That's it.- Oh, wow.
0:10:59 > 0:11:01My room. My room...
0:11:01 > 0:11:03- Whoa...- Whoa.
0:11:03 > 0:11:07Outside, Nieva spotted an appealing feature.
0:11:07 > 0:11:08What's that?
0:11:08 > 0:11:10Hot tub.
0:11:10 > 0:11:14Hot tub. Oh, yeah!
0:11:14 > 0:11:17It looked like Nieva was coming round to Aussie living,
0:11:17 > 0:11:19and Izzy, too.
0:11:19 > 0:11:21I actually want to move here.
0:11:21 > 0:11:23Do you? Yes!
0:11:23 > 0:11:26- Do you actually want to move here? - Not that much.
0:11:26 > 0:11:27Tomorrow?
0:11:27 > 0:11:29No! I'm just thinking about it.
0:11:29 > 0:11:30OK, OK...
0:11:30 > 0:11:34It seemed Richard's work wasn't done quite yet,
0:11:34 > 0:11:36but was this somewhere they could afford anyway
0:11:36 > 0:11:39with their £300,000 budget?
0:11:42 > 0:11:44Turn it over, Izzy.
0:11:44 > 0:11:47- Oh, my goodness!- Oh, my gosh!
0:11:47 > 0:11:50It was only £4,000 over budget.
0:11:51 > 0:11:53- Look at that! - That's all right, yeah.
0:11:53 > 0:11:55- A good start.- A good start.- Yeah.
0:11:55 > 0:11:57I can't wait to see the rest.
0:12:03 > 0:12:05Things were off to a good start.
0:12:05 > 0:12:08Next stop was Golden Grove, half an hour inland from the city.
0:12:10 > 0:12:13Did this property appeal as much as the last?
0:12:14 > 0:12:16Outside impressed straight away...
0:12:17 > 0:12:20- Wow!- Wow.- Wow, is it, like, on top of the world in here? Is it?
0:12:20 > 0:12:23It's very imposing, isn't it?
0:12:23 > 0:12:26..and inside didn't disappoint either.
0:12:26 > 0:12:27Oh, wow!
0:12:27 > 0:12:31- It's beautiful.- Whoa. - It's far bigger than the other one.
0:12:31 > 0:12:34- The master bedroom hit the spot. - Oh, yes. Our room.
0:12:34 > 0:12:36- They've all got front bedrooms, haven't they?- Look at the view!
0:12:36 > 0:12:39Babe, can you imagine that, sitting down there,
0:12:39 > 0:12:41when you wake up with that view?
0:12:41 > 0:12:43It looked like Richard was on to a winner.
0:12:43 > 0:12:47And then you've got another entertainment area here as well.
0:12:47 > 0:12:50And outside lay the feature he'd been hoping for.
0:12:52 > 0:12:54This is perfect.
0:12:54 > 0:12:58Perfect. When you come to Australia, this is what you expect, isn't it?
0:12:58 > 0:13:01- You know?- A swimming pool.- The big house with the swimming pool.- Yes.
0:13:01 > 0:13:03You know, it's just the stuff dreams are made of.
0:13:03 > 0:13:06This house had blown everyone away,
0:13:06 > 0:13:10- but was it beyond their budget of £300,000?- Here we go.
0:13:11 > 0:13:12Hmm...
0:13:12 > 0:13:14Can I do it now?
0:13:17 > 0:13:19Yeah. Go for it.
0:13:20 > 0:13:23- NIEVA GASPS - Oh!- What?- No way.
0:13:23 > 0:13:26It was £4,000 below budget.
0:13:27 > 0:13:28No way!
0:13:28 > 0:13:30That is really...
0:13:30 > 0:13:32Impossible. No...
0:13:32 > 0:13:34No way!
0:13:34 > 0:13:37£296,000?
0:13:37 > 0:13:41Izzy was so smitten, it seemed her opposition to a move was melting.
0:13:42 > 0:13:45- Let's buy it.- Let's buy it, yeah.
0:13:45 > 0:13:49Richard's dream had received a shot in the arm, and there was still
0:13:49 > 0:13:50one more house to view.
0:13:56 > 0:13:58Staying in Golden Grove,
0:13:58 > 0:14:02we'd found what we thought could be the family's dream home.
0:14:02 > 0:14:06Situated in one of the area's most desirable pockets,
0:14:06 > 0:14:09this property was love at first sight for Nieva.
0:14:09 > 0:14:12- No way! - RICHARD LAUGHS
0:14:12 > 0:14:14No way!
0:14:14 > 0:14:15You're joking me!
0:14:15 > 0:14:18NIEVA LAUGHS
0:14:18 > 0:14:20- That one?- Yeah, that one. Yeah.
0:14:20 > 0:14:23Inside, things just got better and better.
0:14:24 > 0:14:27- Wow.- Oh, my...- This feels like you're walking into
0:14:27 > 0:14:28a stately home, doesn't it?
0:14:28 > 0:14:33Oh, my God! Oh, my God!
0:14:33 > 0:14:36- Bloody hell... - RICHARD CHUCKLES
0:14:36 > 0:14:38- No way we can afford this. - NIEVA LAUGHS
0:14:38 > 0:14:41Even the kitchen is worth the house of...our house...
0:14:41 > 0:14:42Look outside.
0:14:42 > 0:14:46Izzy was quick to spot something through the window.
0:14:46 > 0:14:49- Outside.- Outside.
0:14:49 > 0:14:52Oh, that is a clean pool.
0:14:52 > 0:14:54NIEVA SIGHS
0:14:54 > 0:14:58- Izzy...- I feel it. This is my house for today.
0:14:58 > 0:14:59The sun's here as well.
0:14:59 > 0:15:03I love this. I absolutely love this.
0:15:03 > 0:15:04I absolutely love this.
0:15:04 > 0:15:06Everyone loved this house,
0:15:06 > 0:15:10but was it reserved for the rich and famous, as Richard feared?
0:15:10 > 0:15:13- The family's budget was £300,000. - Izzy...
0:15:13 > 0:15:15NIEVA TAKES A DEEP BREATH
0:15:16 > 0:15:18So, what do you think of this house, Izzy?
0:15:18 > 0:15:20I don't know why the people want to sell it.
0:15:20 > 0:15:22- No, I don't. - It's a nice house to live in.
0:15:22 > 0:15:25- Please, take me out of my misery. - OK.
0:15:25 > 0:15:26- Come on, Izzy.- Let's do it. - Let's do it.
0:15:26 > 0:15:29In three, two, one.
0:15:30 > 0:15:33- Whoa.- Whoa!- Oh, my goodness.
0:15:33 > 0:15:37It was £98,000 over budget but...
0:15:37 > 0:15:39That's a lot more for £100,000.
0:15:39 > 0:15:41In the future.
0:15:41 > 0:15:45It was an eye-opening day property-hunting for the Restaricks,
0:15:45 > 0:15:47with each house eclipsing the last.
0:15:49 > 0:15:52Property one had wowed Nieva with its impressive master bedroom
0:15:52 > 0:15:55and a place for a dip in the back yard.
0:15:55 > 0:15:59The second had upped the stakes, with Izzy wanting to move right in
0:15:59 > 0:16:02and the pool Richard desired.
0:16:02 > 0:16:05But property three had been the real winner,
0:16:05 > 0:16:08with kerb appeal in spades, a dream kitchen,
0:16:08 > 0:16:11and all the space the family could need.
0:16:11 > 0:16:13So, with all of that in mind,
0:16:13 > 0:16:16how did the Restaricks vote when it came to choosing between property
0:16:16 > 0:16:18at home or away?
0:16:26 > 0:16:28- Australia.- Australia!
0:16:29 > 0:16:30- Wow!- Oh, wow.
0:16:30 > 0:16:32What do you like, Izzy, the most?
0:16:32 > 0:16:35I really like the houses with the swimming pools.
0:16:35 > 0:16:37I thought you was going to be the hardest one
0:16:37 > 0:16:38to persuade about Australia.
0:16:38 > 0:16:41- It's open-plan, and that is what I like the most.- Yeah.
0:16:41 > 0:16:44- Australia.- It's got to be Australia. - Yeah.- This is a great turnout.
0:16:50 > 0:16:53A full house of votes for Australia meant Richard's week was off to
0:16:53 > 0:16:55a solid start,
0:16:55 > 0:16:59but there was still some way to go if he was to get Nieva and Izzy
0:16:59 > 0:17:00fully on board.
0:17:04 > 0:17:08Back in the UK, Richard was running a garage with his mum,
0:17:08 > 0:17:12but the responsibility meant little room for time off.
0:17:12 > 0:17:15I probably do 60, 70 hours a week,
0:17:15 > 0:17:18erm, working for 12 days on the trot,
0:17:18 > 0:17:21and then I have the two days off on the weekend to spend with my family,
0:17:21 > 0:17:23which isn't enough really.
0:17:25 > 0:17:29Nieva was a book-keeper, working at the family garage.
0:17:29 > 0:17:31I love my job because of the flexibility
0:17:31 > 0:17:34that I can work any time I want.
0:17:34 > 0:17:37I can still spend time with Izzy.
0:17:37 > 0:17:41In Australia, Richard was hoping to free himself of the pressures of
0:17:41 > 0:17:43running a business and work for someone else.
0:17:45 > 0:17:46It's not been the easiest of times.
0:17:46 > 0:17:48I've been bringing home a lot of stress.
0:17:48 > 0:17:50You know, I haven't been myself because of it
0:17:50 > 0:17:53and I just need a change.
0:17:53 > 0:17:56Nieva, however, was reluctant to move if it meant putting
0:17:56 > 0:17:58her career aspirations on ice.
0:17:58 > 0:18:00If I can't find work in Australia,
0:18:00 > 0:18:02I would rather stay here in the UK
0:18:02 > 0:18:05because there's a future perspective for me.
0:18:05 > 0:18:07I'm thinking of being a qualified accountant here in the UK,
0:18:07 > 0:18:10because I'm so settled now, I can actually start studying.
0:18:13 > 0:18:15As the couple set out to explore their work opportunities
0:18:15 > 0:18:18in Adelaide, Richard was feeling the pressure.
0:18:18 > 0:18:21Today is a really, really stressful day, to be honest.
0:18:21 > 0:18:23I've been dreading today.
0:18:23 > 0:18:26We sent Richard to a large car dealership,
0:18:26 > 0:18:28- where he met service manager Craig. - Hi there, mate. I'm Richard.
0:18:28 > 0:18:31- Let's have a look around. - Thanks, mate.
0:18:31 > 0:18:34Desperate to discover if he could reduce his working hours,
0:18:34 > 0:18:38Richard wasted no time asking Craig about typical Aussie shifts.
0:18:38 > 0:18:41What is your normal working day for a mechanic?
0:18:41 > 0:18:45We work Monday to Friday from eight o'clock until four or six,
0:18:45 > 0:18:49and our technicians work three Saturdays on and one off each month.
0:18:51 > 0:18:53It was an encouraging start for Richard.
0:18:53 > 0:18:57Across town, Nieva had an appointment in central Adelaide
0:18:57 > 0:18:59with Andrew, who ran an accounting firm.
0:18:59 > 0:19:02- Hello. - Hi, Nieva. I'm Andrew.
0:19:02 > 0:19:04Welcome to Evans + Ayers.
0:19:04 > 0:19:06She was keen to hear if she could fit in a working day
0:19:06 > 0:19:09around caring for Izzy.
0:19:09 > 0:19:10We're quite flexible.
0:19:10 > 0:19:14I like to make sure that I go to all my children's events,
0:19:14 > 0:19:18and I try and ensure that staff have the same opportunities,
0:19:18 > 0:19:20cos you need happy staff at the end of the day.
0:19:20 > 0:19:22With her qualifications and experience,
0:19:22 > 0:19:25what kind of role did Andrew think she could secure?
0:19:25 > 0:19:28I would have no issues with your qualifications for you working as
0:19:28 > 0:19:32a book-keeper, accountant, and then working your way through,
0:19:32 > 0:19:35and then it's based on experience, and you have training on the job
0:19:35 > 0:19:39and you can obtain qualifications on the job.
0:19:39 > 0:19:43I can hopefully find a job!
0:19:43 > 0:19:46It wasn't the kind of reaction Andrew was used to,
0:19:46 > 0:19:50but being able to pursue a career as a fully-qualified accountant was
0:19:50 > 0:19:52a massive plus for Nieva.
0:19:52 > 0:19:55OK, Andrew, now the big question - how much would I earn?
0:19:55 > 0:20:00Full-time, you'd probably earn about 60,000 Australian
0:20:00 > 0:20:02to 70,000 Australian dollars.
0:20:02 > 0:20:05Oh, wow!
0:20:05 > 0:20:10Working full-time could have seen Nieva earn around £35,000 -
0:20:10 > 0:20:13more than triple what she was getting part-time at home.
0:20:13 > 0:20:16I have to ask my mother-in-law to give me a pay rise
0:20:16 > 0:20:17if I'm staying in the UK.
0:20:17 > 0:20:20Well, we're not paying you as much now, cos it's a lot.
0:20:20 > 0:20:22No...
0:20:22 > 0:20:24That's good.
0:20:24 > 0:20:26It was a great result for Nieva.
0:20:27 > 0:20:30Were Richard's prospects as good?
0:20:30 > 0:20:34So, what would I be expected to earn if a position was available?
0:20:34 > 0:20:40Anywhere from around 50,000 to about 57,000 as a general wage.
0:20:40 > 0:20:42At about £25,000,
0:20:42 > 0:20:47that was way below the £40,000 Richard was bringing in at home.
0:20:47 > 0:20:50I feel quite deflated, to be honest. It's quite a big dent.
0:20:51 > 0:20:55I wasn't expecting the wages to be quite so low, in all fairness.
0:20:55 > 0:20:59I think it's just a little bit too low to make a good go of things,
0:20:59 > 0:21:01to be honest.
0:21:01 > 0:21:04The couple had had very different results on earnings,
0:21:04 > 0:21:06so did that affect their vote?
0:21:16 > 0:21:17- Australia!- UK!
0:21:17 > 0:21:19Oh!
0:21:19 > 0:21:22Well, you knew that was going to come, didn't you?
0:21:22 > 0:21:23- No.- Yeah.
0:21:23 > 0:21:25Am I turning, then?
0:21:25 > 0:21:27- Ah...- I've been voting Australia twice now.
0:21:27 > 0:21:29That's all right. That's good.
0:21:29 > 0:21:31- Oh!- I'll just send you out to work.
0:21:31 > 0:21:34I'll just live the life of luxury - I'll become a house dad.
0:21:34 > 0:21:36Oh! That's not a bad idea.
0:21:46 > 0:21:50While Nieva's eyes had been opened to the upside of life in Australia,
0:21:50 > 0:21:54Richard had reluctantly lodged his first vote for the UK,
0:21:54 > 0:21:58but would a day experiencing Australia's great outdoors
0:21:58 > 0:22:03persuade him a smaller salary could be a sacrifice worth making?
0:22:05 > 0:22:07The family headed to West Beach,
0:22:07 > 0:22:09where they met world-class speed-skater Carly
0:22:09 > 0:22:12for an in-line skating lesson.
0:22:12 > 0:22:15- Morning.- Morning.- How are you doing? - Morning.- How are you, guys?
0:22:15 > 0:22:18- Who feels like doing some skating this morning?- Yeah.
0:22:18 > 0:22:20- Can I get hurt? - Please, teach us, please.
0:22:22 > 0:22:25While Richard and Izzy were quick to get their skates on,
0:22:25 > 0:22:28someone else was struggling.
0:22:28 > 0:22:30NIEVA SQUEALS
0:22:38 > 0:22:43It was exactly the kind of family time Richard had been craving.
0:22:43 > 0:22:46Doing all the activities out in the glorious sunshine,
0:22:46 > 0:22:49it's pretty cool, to be honest.
0:22:49 > 0:22:50And, over an ice cream,
0:22:50 > 0:22:54Nieva was quick to confess the country's climate could also
0:22:54 > 0:22:56be winning her round.
0:22:56 > 0:22:58I think it's been brilliant, you know.
0:22:59 > 0:23:02I mean, it started really gloomy and...and everything.
0:23:02 > 0:23:05- Like...- It was bank-holiday weather when we got here, yeah.
0:23:05 > 0:23:06Bank-holiday weather, yeah.
0:23:06 > 0:23:09But now it's... Now, today, it's brilliant.
0:23:09 > 0:23:12How about you? How do you feel after finding out about the job,
0:23:12 > 0:23:13that it's not what you...?
0:23:13 > 0:23:15Yeah, it put a bit of a downer on things, didn't it, really?
0:23:15 > 0:23:19But it's not deterred me in any way, I don't think.
0:23:19 > 0:23:22Richard was beginning to think a lower salary could be a worthwhile
0:23:22 > 0:23:25compromise for the dream he was chasing.
0:23:25 > 0:23:27You can work to your heart's content,
0:23:27 > 0:23:30but if you can't go out and enjoy yourself, then you're not living,
0:23:30 > 0:23:32you're just existing.
0:23:32 > 0:23:36But having already experienced poverty first-hand,
0:23:36 > 0:23:39Nieva wasn't sure it was a risk she wanted to take.
0:23:39 > 0:23:42I don't want to struggle, cos I struggled when I was young
0:23:42 > 0:23:44and I don't want to come back to the same position.
0:23:46 > 0:23:48Based on lifestyle, though,
0:23:48 > 0:23:51had today done enough to persuade the family to choose Australia
0:23:51 > 0:23:53over the UK?
0:24:00 > 0:24:01- ALL:- Australia!
0:24:01 > 0:24:03All of us - Australia.
0:24:03 > 0:24:05That's another vote for Australia.
0:24:05 > 0:24:07- Thank you.- Well, look at the... Look at the weather.
0:24:07 > 0:24:11- We can do far more...many things in this sort of weather.- Yeah.
0:24:17 > 0:24:20With Nieva and Izzy sold on Australia's lifestyle,
0:24:20 > 0:24:23it looked like Richard was getting closer to persuading them to
0:24:23 > 0:24:25make the move.
0:24:25 > 0:24:28First, though, he needed to address Nieva's concerns
0:24:28 > 0:24:30on finances down under.
0:24:30 > 0:24:33We provided the couple with a cost of living comparison -
0:24:33 > 0:24:36to work out if they could afford to live in Australia,
0:24:36 > 0:24:39they started with the weekly grocery shop.
0:24:39 > 0:24:41You're better with numbers than me.
0:24:41 > 0:24:44Washing powder's cheaper.
0:24:44 > 0:24:47205.53.
0:24:47 > 0:24:50- Worse off at £6.85.- Mm-hmm.
0:24:50 > 0:24:54£35 a month more on groceries didn't raise any alarms.
0:24:55 > 0:24:57- That's doable.- That's doable.
0:24:57 > 0:25:00Basing their figures on the second property they saw,
0:25:00 > 0:25:03the couple then tackled the bigger outgoings.
0:25:04 > 0:25:07- Look at the mortgage. - It's cheaper.- Mm-hmm.
0:25:07 > 0:25:09Electricity's more.
0:25:09 > 0:25:10The transport is good.
0:25:10 > 0:25:131,600.
0:25:13 > 0:25:16In total, the couple worked out they'd spend
0:25:16 > 0:25:20£139 a month less in Australia.
0:25:20 > 0:25:21That's cool.
0:25:22 > 0:25:25But based on Richard's lower potential earnings down under,
0:25:25 > 0:25:30and Nieva working part-time, the overall outcome wasn't as rosy.
0:25:30 > 0:25:35So we'd be £1,361 a month worse off.
0:25:35 > 0:25:40The couple would have been more than £16,000 a year worse off...
0:25:40 > 0:25:42- Wow.- That's a lot of money. - It is a lot of money.
0:25:42 > 0:25:43- That's a lot of money to lose. - Mm-hmm.
0:25:43 > 0:25:46..but Richard was determined to remain positive.
0:25:48 > 0:25:52But...money doesn't buy happiness, babe.
0:25:52 > 0:25:56- It doesn't.- And if we can afford to live a comfortable life,
0:25:56 > 0:25:59rather than an extremely comfortable life,
0:25:59 > 0:26:01then it's still an option, isn't it?
0:26:03 > 0:26:05- It's your call.- Hmm...
0:26:05 > 0:26:06It's your call.
0:26:07 > 0:26:11Despite putting on a brave face, the figures were disappointing -
0:26:11 > 0:26:15would that prove a pill too bitter to swallow as they cast their votes?
0:26:23 > 0:26:25- UK!- Australia!
0:26:25 > 0:26:26Sorry?
0:26:26 > 0:26:29When you've got to lose 16 grand a year, it's a lot of money to lose.
0:26:29 > 0:26:32- But it's another one for Australia for you, isn't it?- Uh-huh.
0:26:32 > 0:26:35I hadn't got that much money when I was in the Philippines
0:26:35 > 0:26:36and I'm happy.
0:26:36 > 0:26:38- Yeah, that's true.- And, you know, we can work things out here.
0:26:38 > 0:26:40- Mm-hmm.- We can work things out here.
0:26:47 > 0:26:50While the finances down under hadn't worked in Richard's favour,
0:26:50 > 0:26:56Nieva was convinced life could still have been comfortable in Australia,
0:26:56 > 0:26:59but the biggest challenge of the week was yet to come.
0:26:59 > 0:27:02With Nieva and Izzy having voted for Australia all week,
0:27:02 > 0:27:05would hearing from friends at home see them
0:27:05 > 0:27:07change their minds on a move?
0:27:07 > 0:27:11Do you want to watch video from our family and friends from the UK?
0:27:11 > 0:27:12- Yeah.- Yeah?
0:27:12 > 0:27:15Then, OK, let's watch them.
0:27:15 > 0:27:17Hello, you lot, out there in the sunshine.
0:27:17 > 0:27:19- Miss you.- Good luck, girls.
0:27:21 > 0:27:23I think he's a fantastic son,
0:27:23 > 0:27:25You know, he's very caring.
0:27:25 > 0:27:28He's really, really hard-working.
0:27:28 > 0:27:33She's always funny, and whenever I'm upset, she makes me laugh.
0:27:33 > 0:27:37- She's a very integral part of the circle of the friends.- Yeah.
0:27:37 > 0:27:41When she said that Nieva and the family will be going to Australia,
0:27:41 > 0:27:42it was a bit of a shock.
0:27:42 > 0:27:44Oh! There's crying already!
0:27:47 > 0:27:49I would hate it,
0:27:49 > 0:27:52I would really hate it -
0:27:52 > 0:27:53not being able to see Izzy,
0:27:53 > 0:27:57not being able to talk to Richard when I wanted to, or ask his advice.
0:27:57 > 0:28:00I don't want her to leave.
0:28:00 > 0:28:02SOBBING
0:28:04 > 0:28:05It's OK.
0:28:09 > 0:28:13Nieva, Richard, Izzy, go with whatever is in your heart.
0:28:13 > 0:28:16Please be careful and look at all the pros and cons
0:28:16 > 0:28:18before you make this big decision.
0:28:18 > 0:28:22You can choose whatever you want, but, hopefully, you'll stay here.
0:28:26 > 0:28:28- That was tough. - It was a bit hard, wasn't it?
0:28:28 > 0:28:30Now I don't want to move.
0:28:30 > 0:28:32- Now you don't want to move? - Back to zero.
0:28:32 > 0:28:34Back to zero again, huh?
0:28:34 > 0:28:37- What about you, babe? - It's a bit hard.
0:28:37 > 0:28:38Yeah, it is, isn't it?
0:28:38 > 0:28:43You know, I get...a bit emotional.
0:28:43 > 0:28:45- OK. - NIEVA SNIFFLES
0:28:47 > 0:28:52Hearing heartfelt messages had hit home hard for Nieva and Izzy.
0:28:56 > 0:28:59As their trial week in Adelaide drew to a close,
0:28:59 > 0:29:03where the family would spend their future was still far from certain.
0:29:05 > 0:29:09The trial week had been everything Richard was hoping for.
0:29:09 > 0:29:11It's exceeded my expectations.
0:29:11 > 0:29:14I've just loved every second of it.
0:29:15 > 0:29:19It had opened Nieva and Izzy's eyes to the possibility of a move.
0:29:20 > 0:29:22I said to myself, "I should not like it, I should not like it,
0:29:22 > 0:29:24"I should not like it..."
0:29:24 > 0:29:26But how can you not like it?
0:29:26 > 0:29:28As the week went on, well...
0:29:28 > 0:29:32it just became hotter and I really enjoyed it.
0:29:32 > 0:29:34But messages from home had given them pause for thought.
0:29:36 > 0:29:37Everything is brilliant here,
0:29:37 > 0:29:40but, sometimes, having your family around you,
0:29:40 > 0:29:41and the friends -
0:29:41 > 0:29:46the sort of friends that you have through thick and thin -
0:29:46 > 0:29:48sometimes that's more important than having the sun.
0:29:48 > 0:29:51I feel very sad...
0:29:51 > 0:29:57cos I'll leave behind so many people that I've known for years.
0:29:57 > 0:29:58Am I doing the right thing?
0:29:58 > 0:30:01Is she going to hate me for it if I move her out here?
0:30:04 > 0:30:07Richard's dream rested on the final turn of the cards.
0:30:09 > 0:30:12Our final decision where we would like to live goes to...
0:30:21 > 0:30:23- Australia!- Australia!
0:30:23 > 0:30:24Uh-oh.
0:30:26 > 0:30:28- We sort of know that, anyway, don't we?- Yeah, we knew that.- Yeah.
0:30:28 > 0:30:30Are you all right going here on holiday?
0:30:30 > 0:30:33- Yeah?- Yeah, I'm OK on holidays, but not moving.
0:30:33 > 0:30:35I actually surprised myself, as well.
0:30:35 > 0:30:37I know we're not going to earn much,
0:30:37 > 0:30:40but money cannot buy happiness, babe.
0:30:40 > 0:30:41- OK. Group hug.- Come on, then.
0:30:41 > 0:30:43Well done, well done...
0:30:43 > 0:30:44Eee, oh...
0:30:44 > 0:30:46Ow.
0:30:46 > 0:30:48Ow, I'm getting squished.
0:30:48 > 0:30:50- So there's no way of changing your mind, Izzy?- Uh-uh.
0:30:50 > 0:30:52No? You want to go back to England?
0:30:52 > 0:30:53- Yes.- Yeah? OK.
0:30:53 > 0:30:55But it's been a good week, though.
0:30:55 > 0:30:56It's been an awesome week.
0:31:01 > 0:31:06Australia's irrepressible charm had worked its magic on Nieva,
0:31:06 > 0:31:10but the pull of family and friends for Izzy had seen Richard's dream
0:31:10 > 0:31:12fall at the final hurdle.
0:31:12 > 0:31:15Now, one year on from their trial week,
0:31:15 > 0:31:18it's time to find out what happened next.
0:31:19 > 0:31:24It's August, 2016, and the Restaricks are living in...
0:31:24 > 0:31:26Norfolk in the UK.
0:31:31 > 0:31:33Despite her initial worries about emigrating,
0:31:33 > 0:31:38the trial week had opened Nieva's eyes to the possibility of a move.
0:31:38 > 0:31:40I love Australia, especially the houses.
0:31:40 > 0:31:43Oh, my gosh!
0:31:43 > 0:31:46I see loads of positive things in Adelaide and, you know,
0:31:46 > 0:31:48loads of opportunities, as well -
0:31:48 > 0:31:50not just for me but also for my family.
0:31:51 > 0:31:53Her vote for Australia at the end was like
0:31:53 > 0:31:55a dream come true for Richard.
0:31:55 > 0:31:59When Nieva showed the flag, it was...it was really cool.
0:31:59 > 0:32:00It was like, "Yes!"
0:32:03 > 0:32:06The only stumbling block was Izzy.
0:32:06 > 0:32:08When Izzy voted for the UK,
0:32:08 > 0:32:12erm, obviously I felt a little bit, "Ugh, why?"
0:32:12 > 0:32:14But I do understand why she felt it.
0:32:14 > 0:32:18I'm sure, and I'm convinced, it was the family and friends video
0:32:18 > 0:32:20which broke her, to be honest.
0:32:20 > 0:32:24You know, we had a lot of tears during the show and after the show.
0:32:26 > 0:32:27We did have a good time.
0:32:27 > 0:32:32It's just I couldn't leave my friends...my friends at school.
0:32:32 > 0:32:36My family lives here, and I've known them for nine years now,
0:32:36 > 0:32:40and I just couldn't leave them behind.
0:32:43 > 0:32:46Realising Izzy wasn't going to be won over easily,
0:32:46 > 0:32:49Richard admits returning to the UK was hard,
0:32:49 > 0:32:52as he came to terms with the knowledge his Australian dream
0:32:52 > 0:32:53could be over.
0:32:53 > 0:32:55The first two weeks after we came back,
0:32:55 > 0:32:57it was a real downer, to be honest.
0:32:57 > 0:33:00It was such an anti-climax.
0:33:00 > 0:33:02It's not quite really what I expected, you know?
0:33:02 > 0:33:05I thought I was going to get out there and process everything and get
0:33:05 > 0:33:07straight on it when we got back.
0:33:07 > 0:33:09It was difficult to come home to
0:33:09 > 0:33:12and get back into the swing of work, etc.
0:33:12 > 0:33:15So, yeah, it was the downside for me.
0:33:25 > 0:33:28But Richard hadn't completely closed the door on
0:33:28 > 0:33:30the possibility of moving.
0:33:30 > 0:33:33My plans and thoughts for the future at the time was
0:33:33 > 0:33:35to start processing the visa.
0:33:35 > 0:33:38We were slowly starting to build up connections with
0:33:38 > 0:33:42immigration agencies, and speaking to agents about going, wasn't we?
0:33:42 > 0:33:45And, you know, who would be best on the skilled visa.
0:33:46 > 0:33:48Realising age was against him,
0:33:48 > 0:33:51Richard started to save up for an Australian visa
0:33:51 > 0:33:54in the hope Izzy would eventually change her mind.
0:33:54 > 0:33:56When we got back in the UK, he'd keep looking at his bike,
0:33:56 > 0:33:59keep going to the garage, keep looking at his bike,
0:33:59 > 0:34:00and then, one day, he just told me,
0:34:00 > 0:34:04"I want to sell my bike and use that for the visa."
0:34:08 > 0:34:12But things didn't go quite to plan when, months after returning home,
0:34:12 > 0:34:16Richard was devastated to discover that their family-run garage
0:34:16 > 0:34:17had been broken into.
0:34:17 > 0:34:20The garage got turned over,
0:34:20 > 0:34:24and we had a lot of my personal stuff taken away from me.
0:34:24 > 0:34:27And he comes in, and he said, "The bike is gone."
0:34:27 > 0:34:30That's the first thing he said, actually. "My bike is gone."
0:34:30 > 0:34:32And it's like, "My visa is gone."
0:34:32 > 0:34:34We were going to start applying for the visa,
0:34:34 > 0:34:38and the main source of that income would be from my motorcycle,
0:34:38 > 0:34:41which got stolen, and it wasn't insured, unfortunately.
0:34:41 > 0:34:43He is not the same.
0:34:43 > 0:34:46I haven't seen him smiling for weeks and weeks and weeks.
0:34:46 > 0:34:49It was a devastating blow.
0:34:49 > 0:34:52But, yeah, that's the most heartbreaking moment of our family,
0:34:52 > 0:34:53to be honest.
0:34:53 > 0:34:56He'd already planned everything what's going to happen next
0:34:56 > 0:34:58and, all of a sudden, somebody took that away from him.
0:34:58 > 0:35:02It's completely changed the timescale of things.
0:35:02 > 0:35:05You know, the visa application's a lot of money -
0:35:05 > 0:35:07it's a lot of money to save up for -
0:35:07 > 0:35:11and it was the only way we were going to be able to do it quickly.
0:35:11 > 0:35:13The thieves had also robbed Richard of things that
0:35:13 > 0:35:16couldn't ever be replaced.
0:35:16 > 0:35:18My dad's tools and the power tools and everything, all got stolen,
0:35:18 > 0:35:20as well. They were all his.
0:35:20 > 0:35:22You just can't replace that.
0:35:22 > 0:35:24You can... Yeah, you can buy another bike,
0:35:24 > 0:35:27you can buy another set of tools, but they were his.
0:35:29 > 0:35:32It was a traumatic time for the family,
0:35:32 > 0:35:34and there was more bad news to come,
0:35:34 > 0:35:36when Richard's beloved grandma suffered a fall
0:35:36 > 0:35:38which left her in hospital.
0:35:38 > 0:35:42When my gran fell over and broke her arm, she got really ill with it.
0:35:42 > 0:35:44We honestly thought we were going to lose her at one point.
0:35:44 > 0:35:46You know, at this point...
0:35:46 > 0:35:48This time last year, she was very ill in hospital.
0:35:48 > 0:35:50Richard felt that it's his responsibility
0:35:50 > 0:35:53and he's the only grandchild around.
0:35:53 > 0:35:56The situation left Richard contemplating the importance of
0:35:56 > 0:35:59being close by for his loved ones in the UK.
0:35:59 > 0:36:02At the time, my mum was away and it was just down to me,
0:36:02 > 0:36:05because we were the only relatives close in the area who could pop in
0:36:05 > 0:36:08and see her, so every night we're travelling backwards and forwards to
0:36:08 > 0:36:11Norwich Hospital after work, and it...
0:36:11 > 0:36:14Again, that kind of made me realise that,
0:36:14 > 0:36:16you know, this...this...
0:36:16 > 0:36:19If this happened to Mum, who's going to look after Mum?
0:36:19 > 0:36:22When that happened to Grandma, we realised that, hey,
0:36:22 > 0:36:24that could happen to your mum, as well.
0:36:24 > 0:36:26What are you going to do next?
0:36:26 > 0:36:29If we're thousands of miles away, what are you going to do?
0:36:29 > 0:36:31He loves his family.
0:36:31 > 0:36:34Since recovering, his grandma has relocated to a house closer to
0:36:34 > 0:36:38the couple, and the whole family are grateful for the time
0:36:38 > 0:36:39they can enjoy together.
0:36:39 > 0:36:43So, now my grandmother's moved into the nursing home down the road,
0:36:43 > 0:36:45we probably see her two or three times a week.
0:36:45 > 0:36:47If we were in Australia,
0:36:47 > 0:36:49we just wouldn't be able to have that opportunity right now.
0:36:49 > 0:36:52There are times like on her birthday I can surprise her,
0:36:52 > 0:36:53cos it's so much closer.
0:36:53 > 0:36:55I can just bring the cake and give her what she wants.
0:36:55 > 0:36:58To be there for her when she needs us,
0:36:58 > 0:37:01and to be able to see her when we want, as well, it's nice.
0:37:04 > 0:37:07Despite plans not working out as hoped,
0:37:07 > 0:37:10their week down under has inspired Richard and Nieva to make some
0:37:10 > 0:37:13positive changes to their life in the UK.
0:37:13 > 0:37:17When I was doing every other weekend, it was too much.
0:37:17 > 0:37:18It was very stressful.
0:37:18 > 0:37:23Very stressful for the family, stressful for my wife and Izzy...
0:37:23 > 0:37:25You know, I'm not spending no time with them
0:37:25 > 0:37:27because it was just work and work and work -
0:37:27 > 0:37:31working 60, 70, 80 hours a week plus.
0:37:31 > 0:37:33So the lads at work, we all sat down,
0:37:33 > 0:37:36we all decided what was best and the guys have been fantastic,
0:37:36 > 0:37:38and they've stepped in - with no questions, no arguments -
0:37:38 > 0:37:40and they've covered my shifts for me.
0:37:42 > 0:37:44Your employees, they are friends, as well.
0:37:44 > 0:37:46They are willing to do the weekends for him,
0:37:46 > 0:37:49you know, so they can swap so that he doesn't have to work
0:37:49 > 0:37:51as much as he used to do.
0:37:51 > 0:37:54It's so easy now to go in and enjoy my work.
0:37:54 > 0:37:57Yeah, OK, there's days where you think, "Why on earth do I bother?"
0:37:57 > 0:37:58But you'd get that in any job.
0:37:58 > 0:38:02They've definitely made my life easier and been able to help me with
0:38:02 > 0:38:04running the business.
0:38:04 > 0:38:07And less time at work means more time for play.
0:38:14 > 0:38:15Now I've got more time off,
0:38:15 > 0:38:18I've got more energy to do stuff with the family.
0:38:18 > 0:38:20It's really nice, you know?
0:38:20 > 0:38:22Today we've been playing on the trampoline,
0:38:22 > 0:38:24and running around, chasing the dog in the park.
0:38:28 > 0:38:30It's great quality time.
0:38:32 > 0:38:35Before the trial week, Richard always worked,
0:38:35 > 0:38:39worked, worked, worked, but now we have more time together.
0:38:39 > 0:38:41Because when we come back after the trial week,
0:38:41 > 0:38:44that gets our focus to the one thing -
0:38:44 > 0:38:49that's, you know, money and material things are not important.
0:38:49 > 0:38:52It's really nice. It gives you such an awesome feeling to be able to be
0:38:52 > 0:38:55there for your family and not just provide for your family.
0:38:55 > 0:38:59And he managed to get that option to spend more time with Izzy.
0:38:59 > 0:39:02I am very happy with that.
0:39:02 > 0:39:06I'm spending a lot more precious time with my daughter
0:39:06 > 0:39:08and quality time with my wife.
0:39:08 > 0:39:11It's made the decision, rather than going searching for something
0:39:11 > 0:39:12on the other side of the world,
0:39:12 > 0:39:14which might not necessarily be there,
0:39:14 > 0:39:17to stay here and appreciate life in the UK.
0:39:18 > 0:39:21During the weekends, what we do is sometimes we go to the caravan
0:39:21 > 0:39:23and enjoy our time there.
0:39:23 > 0:39:25The seaside does relax me and Richard.
0:39:25 > 0:39:27We really enjoy being together.
0:39:27 > 0:39:30We really enjoy seeing each other, and it's nice.
0:39:30 > 0:39:33It's a great atmosphere to be in at the moment, you know -
0:39:33 > 0:39:34really happy and contented.
0:39:36 > 0:39:39There's even been time for a family holiday, which turned out to be
0:39:39 > 0:39:41something very special.
0:39:41 > 0:39:44We thought, "Let's go back to the Philippines and we'll go back to
0:39:44 > 0:39:46"the place where we first met."
0:39:46 > 0:39:48I wanted the renewal of the vow to be a surprise,
0:39:48 > 0:39:51because that is our dream wedding.
0:39:51 > 0:39:53Next thing you know, I get handed this piece of paper
0:39:53 > 0:39:56and it's just like, "Surprise..." I've turned it over.
0:39:56 > 0:39:57"..it's your wedding day today."
0:39:57 > 0:39:59I'm like, "What?"
0:39:59 > 0:40:01What's going on?
0:40:01 > 0:40:05This time, I surprised Richard to get married on the exact beach
0:40:05 > 0:40:08where we wanted to get married in the first place.
0:40:08 > 0:40:11My daughter's in this lovely white dress, hair all done,
0:40:11 > 0:40:13looking very smart and pretty.
0:40:13 > 0:40:14I'm like, "What's going on here?"
0:40:14 > 0:40:17The renewing of the vow ceremony is very special.
0:40:17 > 0:40:18I'm so blessed.
0:40:21 > 0:40:23APPLAUSE
0:40:26 > 0:40:28That's our dream wedding, and I got my mum there.
0:40:28 > 0:40:31My mum had never been at our wedding here in the UK,
0:40:31 > 0:40:33and at that renewal of the vows, she was there.
0:40:33 > 0:40:34She's the love of my life, you know.
0:40:34 > 0:40:37I wouldn't... I wouldn't want to change her for anything.
0:40:37 > 0:40:40You know, when somebody does that to you after ten years of marriage,
0:40:40 > 0:40:42you know they still love you.
0:40:42 > 0:40:44It was a very special day.
0:40:48 > 0:40:51The past few months have been eventful and busy,
0:40:51 > 0:40:55and while Nieva had agreed Australia could be a good move,
0:40:55 > 0:40:59she's totally content with how life has panned out in the UK.
0:40:59 > 0:41:01I'll be happy staying in the UK,
0:41:01 > 0:41:03because I've got my family, and the friends.
0:41:03 > 0:41:05We appreciate what we've got here.
0:41:05 > 0:41:09Richard hasn't given up on the idea of emigrating just yet.
0:41:09 > 0:41:11I still have the Australian dream.
0:41:11 > 0:41:13It's still... It's still alive and kicking.
0:41:13 > 0:41:17It's not so important to me right now.
0:41:17 > 0:41:23It's still there, but I'm happy here in the UK for now.
0:41:23 > 0:41:27I believe we have made the right decision for our family so far.
0:41:27 > 0:41:28So far.
0:41:28 > 0:41:30As long as everything stays the way it is,
0:41:30 > 0:41:32yeah, we've made the right decision.
0:41:32 > 0:41:35I'm a little bit concerned about Richard thinking about going to
0:41:35 > 0:41:37Australia, but that is only a tiny little bit,
0:41:37 > 0:41:41because I know as long as me and Richard are together,
0:41:41 > 0:41:44you know, with and Izzy, he'll be happy.
0:41:44 > 0:41:45He'll be happy.
0:41:48 > 0:41:52It's not where you are, it's who you're with
0:41:52 > 0:41:54that is the most important one.
0:41:54 > 0:41:58At the moment, our home, me and Izzy's home, is the UK,
0:41:58 > 0:42:02but if Richard said he wants to move to Australia,
0:42:02 > 0:42:03and things happen,
0:42:03 > 0:42:05I will support him all the way.
0:42:05 > 0:42:06We just have to talk to Izzy.
0:42:08 > 0:42:11But Izzy might still take some persuading.
0:42:11 > 0:42:14If my mum and dad did say to go,
0:42:14 > 0:42:16I would feel very upset,
0:42:16 > 0:42:20and it's just that I don't want to leave any of my family here.
0:42:20 > 0:42:23Izzy's not thinking about Australia at all at this time.
0:42:23 > 0:42:27She probably will go on holiday, but she won't...
0:42:27 > 0:42:29She won't live there. She won't.
0:42:29 > 0:42:33So, for now at least, the Restaricks are more than happy at home.
