0:00:02 > 0:00:04Desperate to improve their family's prospects,
0:00:04 > 0:00:07Jessie and Kevin saw their future in Australia...
0:00:07 > 0:00:09I'm not happy in the UK
0:00:09 > 0:00:12and I'm really hoping this is the answer.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14..but not all the family were on board...
0:00:14 > 0:00:17At the moment, no, I don't want to move out here.
0:00:17 > 0:00:20..when a trial week in 2015 showed the good...
0:00:20 > 0:00:23- Oh, that is lovely.- ..and the bad.
0:00:23 > 0:00:26That noise from the road is just driving me crazy.
0:00:26 > 0:00:29Did the thought of leaving loved ones behind...
0:00:29 > 0:00:31It hurts. Actually, hurts. Yeah, it'd be tough.
0:00:31 > 0:00:34..put paid to the dream forever?
0:00:34 > 0:00:38So, where are the Samra/Raison family now -
0:00:38 > 0:00:42in the UK or down under?
0:01:04 > 0:01:06The world's sixth largest country,
0:01:06 > 0:01:09Australia's 30 times bigger than the UK,
0:01:09 > 0:01:12but with just over a third of its population.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15But that figure's rapidly growing, thanks, in part,
0:01:15 > 0:01:17to the 23 British families
0:01:17 > 0:01:20who make Australia their new home every day.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23Many are drawn by the country's warmer climate
0:01:23 > 0:01:27and famous outdoors lifestyle, but not everyone makes it work.
0:01:27 > 0:01:31Around half return with their dreams a distant memory.
0:01:33 > 0:01:38Jessie Samra and Kevin Raison wanted the best future possible
0:01:38 > 0:01:41for their children, but had become increasingly concerned
0:01:41 > 0:01:45about their family's prospects if they stayed in the UK.
0:01:45 > 0:01:47Though having never been,
0:01:47 > 0:01:50they set their sights on a new life in Australia.
0:01:50 > 0:01:53Ahead of them was a week to discover
0:01:53 > 0:01:56if the country could live up to their high expectations,
0:01:56 > 0:02:00followed by perhaps one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07Flying via Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia,
0:02:07 > 0:02:09it took the family over 24 hours
0:02:09 > 0:02:12to travel from London to Australia.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14When they finally touched down,
0:02:14 > 0:02:17there was a difference of opinion on how the flight went.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20Wasn't as tiring as I thought it would be.
0:02:20 > 0:02:22I'm feeling quite... I'm looking forward to the day.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25- I thought the journey was really tiring.- Yeah.
0:02:25 > 0:02:30Arriving on Australian soil was a huge personal milestone for Kevin.
0:02:30 > 0:02:32Thinking of all that time I wanted to just get here,
0:02:32 > 0:02:34just being in Australia is just...
0:02:34 > 0:02:36Yeah, it's good. It's really good.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40He and Jessie were pinning their hopes
0:02:40 > 0:02:42on the next week being a success.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45It's really important that Australia,
0:02:45 > 0:02:48this week, goes really well.
0:02:48 > 0:02:50I'm not happy in the UK
0:02:50 > 0:02:52and I'm really hoping this is the answer.
0:02:52 > 0:02:55It really depends on this week. You know, this is the crunch.
0:02:55 > 0:02:58We find out whether this is something for us
0:02:58 > 0:02:59or whether it's not.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02Kevin was right - the trial week could decide
0:03:02 > 0:03:05where the family would spend the rest of their lives.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12Meet the Samra and Raison family.
0:03:12 > 0:03:17They are Jessie, Kevin, Kuba, Kieran, and baby Shay.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20Before she met Kevin, Jessie was a single mum
0:03:20 > 0:03:23living an active life in Wales with daughter Kuba.
0:03:23 > 0:03:27We were really outdoorsy. We had lots of activities going on.
0:03:27 > 0:03:30Literally, just have quality time as a family outdoors.
0:03:30 > 0:03:33So, we did loads of activities, like dance and drama
0:03:33 > 0:03:36and horse riding. Like karate and stuff.
0:03:36 > 0:03:39Then, four years ago, mum and daughter returned
0:03:39 > 0:03:41to where Jessie grew up.
0:03:41 > 0:03:44Kuba and I moved back to West Bromwich from Wales
0:03:44 > 0:03:46because we wanted to be close to family.
0:03:46 > 0:03:52I just felt Kuba was missing out on seeing her grandparents more often.
0:03:52 > 0:03:53Wanting to remain active,
0:03:53 > 0:03:56Jessie enrolled in some bootcamp training sessions
0:03:56 > 0:03:59and the instructor caught her eye.
0:03:59 > 0:04:02Jessie was actually a client of mine from my bootcamp.
0:04:02 > 0:04:05- She accidentally texted someone... - Oh, my God.
0:04:05 > 0:04:08..thinking it was someone else, and texted me instead.
0:04:08 > 0:04:11And I think the words were, "I'm smitten."
0:04:11 > 0:04:14So, that's how I knew that Jessie liked me in some way.
0:04:14 > 0:04:16The couple fell in love,
0:04:16 > 0:04:19and Kevin became part of both Jessie and Kuba's world.
0:04:19 > 0:04:21To me, Kuba's my daughter,
0:04:21 > 0:04:24and I felt that I took that on board quite easily.
0:04:26 > 0:04:29And soon son Shay came into their lives.
0:04:29 > 0:04:31It feels like everything's just pieced together finally.
0:04:31 > 0:04:34The whole of my life has just pieced together.
0:04:34 > 0:04:38There's also an important fifth member of the family -
0:04:38 > 0:04:42Jessie's nephew Kieran, who Jessie's cared for like a son.
0:04:42 > 0:04:45I think he was a massive part in mine and Kuba's lives,
0:04:45 > 0:04:47but he's a big part of your life, really.
0:04:47 > 0:04:50- Yeah, he's a good mate.- He helps you coach in the business.- Yeah.
0:04:52 > 0:04:56Before they met, Kevin had a dream of moving to Australia.
0:04:56 > 0:05:00I had a dream, many years ago - about the late '90s.
0:05:00 > 0:05:03I was looking to see as much of Australia as I could.
0:05:03 > 0:05:05But his initial plans were put on hold
0:05:05 > 0:05:09when some unexpected bills landed on his doormat.
0:05:10 > 0:05:13Unfortunately, my dog was taken ill.
0:05:13 > 0:05:16All the money that I'd saved went on the operations for my dog.
0:05:16 > 0:05:19A couple of years later, after losing his dad,
0:05:19 > 0:05:23he thought it might be time to try Australia again.
0:05:23 > 0:05:24When my dad passed away...
0:05:33 > 0:05:36..I decided I'd go to Australia.
0:05:36 > 0:05:39I didn't feel as if I had anything here for me.
0:05:42 > 0:05:45But then a friend did say to me, "Whenever you go,
0:05:45 > 0:05:47"you're always going to take your thoughts with you."
0:05:47 > 0:05:51So, yeah, it's been a couple of times I've tried now for Australia,
0:05:51 > 0:05:52so third time lucky.
0:05:52 > 0:05:54Kevin's dream had new life
0:05:54 > 0:05:58and Jessie began to share his desire to move down under.
0:05:58 > 0:06:01Since moving from Wales, I think you've started to
0:06:01 > 0:06:04always look for somewhere else to be.
0:06:04 > 0:06:07- You've looked... Apart from Birmingham.- Yeah.
0:06:07 > 0:06:11I have it in my head what Australia can provide for us.
0:06:11 > 0:06:14So, the family time, the outdoor lifestyle.
0:06:14 > 0:06:17Jessie was worried life for a teenager in the West Midlands
0:06:17 > 0:06:19wasn't stimulating enough for Kuba...
0:06:19 > 0:06:22She used to play the guitar, the piano, the trumpet,
0:06:22 > 0:06:24and she's given it all up.
0:06:24 > 0:06:27Cos I've come from Wales, it's, like, really different.
0:06:27 > 0:06:29So, where I would be out and doing activities,
0:06:29 > 0:06:33I'll just be at home just on social media,
0:06:33 > 0:06:35and that's it, really.
0:06:35 > 0:06:39..and she believed a move down under would give Kuba a better life...
0:06:39 > 0:06:42Being in Australia, she'll have that outdoor lifestyle,
0:06:42 > 0:06:44she'll have, in my opinion,
0:06:44 > 0:06:47more opportunities to do all the things she wants to.
0:06:47 > 0:06:51..and offer nephew Kieran a brighter future, too.
0:06:51 > 0:06:54It'll open his eyes to what there is out there.
0:06:54 > 0:06:58I just want him to fulfil his dreams.
0:06:59 > 0:07:02So, the dream was back on.
0:07:02 > 0:07:03It's been nearly 20 years.
0:07:03 > 0:07:06The dream's always been there, but you just kind of lay it down
0:07:06 > 0:07:08and think it's never going to happen.
0:07:08 > 0:07:10But Kevin was close to his aunt Sandra,
0:07:10 > 0:07:13and was torn at the thought of leaving her behind.
0:07:13 > 0:07:16We are so happy when we see each other, and now,
0:07:16 > 0:07:19you know, we could be making one of the biggest steps
0:07:19 > 0:07:21we've ever made in our lives.
0:07:21 > 0:07:23It worries me. It does worry me.
0:07:23 > 0:07:25Jessie and Kuba were also concerned
0:07:25 > 0:07:27about leaving family who live nearby...
0:07:28 > 0:07:31- It's not that easy to just jump on a plane...- No.
0:07:31 > 0:07:34..and come back here if you're needed.
0:07:35 > 0:07:39- I think that'd probably hurt me the most.- Yeah.
0:07:39 > 0:07:42I see my nan every day, and knowing that, after school,
0:07:42 > 0:07:44I'm not going to go there or something,
0:07:44 > 0:07:46it's not a nice feeling.
0:07:46 > 0:07:48..while Kieran had his own doubts over the move.
0:07:48 > 0:07:54I'm massively scared and nervous. I'm leaving so much behind.
0:07:54 > 0:07:57Friends, family - they all mean a lot to me right now.
0:07:58 > 0:08:02Despite their worries, Jessie and Kevin were raring to go.
0:08:02 > 0:08:05I think it's a bit of a make or break.
0:08:05 > 0:08:08- It's borderline an obsession now, isn't it?- Yeah. Yeah.
0:08:08 > 0:08:10We know what we want and we've got to have it
0:08:10 > 0:08:12within our grasp very quickly.
0:08:19 > 0:08:21The family visited Adelaide,
0:08:21 > 0:08:23the driest of the country's state capitals.
0:08:23 > 0:08:26Their base for the week was Brighton Beach,
0:08:26 > 0:08:31a haven for families and only a 25-minute train ride into the city.
0:08:31 > 0:08:36Once inside their temporary home, Jessie was pleasantly surprised.
0:08:36 > 0:08:41- Oh, wow.- I like this. - This is a good size.
0:08:41 > 0:08:45And the outside entertaining area definitely had the wow factor.
0:08:45 > 0:08:49- Oh, wow!- Oh, wow!- This is gorgeous. - It just gets better, doesn't it?
0:08:49 > 0:08:51This is where I would chill out on an evening.
0:08:51 > 0:08:53As they made themselves at home,
0:08:53 > 0:08:55Kevin could barely contain his delight.
0:08:55 > 0:08:58It's took 20 years for me to get to Australia,
0:08:58 > 0:09:00and it feels quite homely.
0:09:00 > 0:09:02It feels normal to be here.
0:09:02 > 0:09:05- Oh, wow.- Wow!
0:09:05 > 0:09:09Jessie pinned her hopes on Australia showing Kuba and Kieran
0:09:09 > 0:09:12how their futures could be brighter down under.
0:09:12 > 0:09:14I think it's a huge week for Kieran and Kuba.
0:09:14 > 0:09:18I really hope that they open their eyes to something bigger
0:09:18 > 0:09:20and better for themselves.
0:09:20 > 0:09:23But it was likely to be an uphill struggle.
0:09:23 > 0:09:26I have to admit, no, I don't want to move out here.
0:09:26 > 0:09:29I'm worried about, like, not making friends and stuff
0:09:29 > 0:09:33because it's totally new people around me and I won't know anyone.
0:09:33 > 0:09:36Kevin knew just how much was at stake.
0:09:36 > 0:09:38- KEVIN:- This week is a life-changer for the family.
0:09:38 > 0:09:40It's a long way to make a mistake,
0:09:40 > 0:09:43so we've got to make sure that, if we do it, we do it right.
0:09:48 > 0:09:51Back in the UK, the family lived in Smethwick in the West Midlands.
0:09:53 > 0:09:56Their three-bedroom house was midway through renovations.
0:09:56 > 0:09:59The house in itself is a very big property.
0:09:59 > 0:10:02It's just not laid out the way we would like it,
0:10:02 > 0:10:04so we're knocking it all through.
0:10:04 > 0:10:07The family's budget for buying a home in Australia
0:10:07 > 0:10:13was around £250,000, and they knew exactly what they wanted.
0:10:13 > 0:10:15- A swimming pool.- Close to the beach.
0:10:15 > 0:10:18- A hot tub.- A big kitchen. Definitely need a big kitchen.
0:10:18 > 0:10:21And a barbecue area. Crikey, it's all outdoors for me.
0:10:21 > 0:10:22Nice, big garden for the dogs.
0:10:27 > 0:10:29We showed them three properties -
0:10:29 > 0:10:32two on-budget and a third, their dream house.
0:10:32 > 0:10:35Only after they saw each one did they discover its value.
0:10:38 > 0:10:41The first viewing was ten minutes south from Brighton Beach
0:10:41 > 0:10:44to the Sheidow Park area.
0:10:44 > 0:10:47Popular with expat families, it was close to the sea,
0:10:47 > 0:10:49yet half an hour from the city.
0:10:50 > 0:10:54On arrival, the sloping driveway didn't get the viewing off
0:10:54 > 0:10:56to the best of starts.
0:10:56 > 0:10:58- Steep.- That's quite steep. - That's quite frightening.
0:11:00 > 0:11:02- Ah!- The roof's almost level with the road.
0:11:02 > 0:11:04- It's quite freaky, that.- Yeah.
0:11:04 > 0:11:07- It's like a basement.- I don't like the steep drive for my heels.
0:11:07 > 0:11:12But despite the shaky start, inside, things began to improve.
0:11:12 > 0:11:14- Nice and bright.- Yeah.
0:11:14 > 0:11:17- I didn't expect that cos it's so low down off the ground.- Yeah.
0:11:17 > 0:11:21- OK, bedroom.- The main bedroom lifted the mood further still.
0:11:22 > 0:11:26- That's nice.- Oh, yeah, it's nice. Walk-in wardrobe.- Oh, wow.
0:11:26 > 0:11:29I don't think it would suit Kuba. Still not enough room for her.
0:11:29 > 0:11:31She could fill up all of that!
0:11:31 > 0:11:33And while the open-plan kitchen-diner
0:11:33 > 0:11:36and living room did win some praise...
0:11:36 > 0:11:38- It is a nice kitchen. - It is. It's nice.
0:11:38 > 0:11:40..it wasn't long-lived.
0:11:40 > 0:11:43It just reminds me of an apartment, this whole house.
0:11:43 > 0:11:44However, up on the roof deck,
0:11:44 > 0:11:47the family could finally imagine settling in.
0:11:47 > 0:11:51Oh, this is lovely. Now, this is it.
0:11:51 > 0:11:52It's good. If it gets too hot,
0:11:52 > 0:11:55at least you've got the shade there, as well.
0:11:55 > 0:11:57I could see myself out here every day.
0:11:57 > 0:12:00Overall, the house received a mixed response,
0:12:00 > 0:12:04but could they afford it with their £250,000 budget?
0:12:04 > 0:12:07I'm going to guess at...
0:12:08 > 0:12:11- ..190.- I'm thinking over the 200 mark.
0:12:11 > 0:12:16I'm going to go £225,000.
0:12:18 > 0:12:21- THEY GASP - Ah.- Wow.- I was the closest.
0:12:21 > 0:12:25That was £19,000 under their budget.
0:12:25 > 0:12:27I was expecting a little bit lower.
0:12:27 > 0:12:31I'm excited to see, if this is 231,000,
0:12:31 > 0:12:36what on earth we can get for 250,000. I want a pool!
0:12:36 > 0:12:38To see if Jessie could get the pool,
0:12:38 > 0:12:40the family went to property number two,
0:12:40 > 0:12:43in Reynella, about ten minutes from the nearest beach,
0:12:43 > 0:12:46and everyone appeared immediately impressed.
0:12:46 > 0:12:49- First impressions? Really nice.- Beautiful.
0:12:49 > 0:12:53- I really like it.- Inside, the house just couldn't put a foot wrong.
0:12:53 > 0:12:57- Oh, nice. This is what you would expect in a proper hallway.- Yeah.
0:12:57 > 0:13:01It kind of keeps you guessing as to what the rest of the house is like
0:13:01 > 0:13:03and the sort of house it should be.
0:13:03 > 0:13:05The main bedroom was a real crowd-pleaser.
0:13:05 > 0:13:09- Oh, wow.- What's...? Whoa!
0:13:09 > 0:13:11Oh, this is gorgeous.
0:13:11 > 0:13:14- It's a gorgeous en suite. - A shower and everything.
0:13:14 > 0:13:16- Oh, it's lovely. - In the next bedroom...
0:13:16 > 0:13:18- It's a good room.- It's not bad.
0:13:18 > 0:13:22..Jessie was distracted by something she spotted out of the window.
0:13:22 > 0:13:26- I've just seen a pool! - Did you?! Yes!
0:13:27 > 0:13:30- Shall we go and look at the rest of the house?- Yeah.
0:13:30 > 0:13:32The quicker we move, the quicker we get to the pool.
0:13:32 > 0:13:35In the living room-cum-office, trying to get a sneak peek
0:13:35 > 0:13:39of the pool proved irresistible, but Kuba...
0:13:39 > 0:13:43- Ow!- ..was possibly a bit too keen.
0:13:43 > 0:13:45- Oh, wow.- Oh, wow.
0:13:45 > 0:13:49Don't you just want to get in it right now?
0:13:49 > 0:13:50So, can we move in today?
0:13:52 > 0:13:54Oh, that is lovely.
0:13:54 > 0:13:59The whole family were smitten, but could they afford it?
0:13:59 > 0:14:01I'm going to go...
0:14:03 > 0:14:06..£265,000.
0:14:06 > 0:14:10I think it's at least 50 grand more than the previous one.
0:14:10 > 0:14:13So, I want to go a little bit more than that and go...
0:14:15 > 0:14:17..285.
0:14:20 > 0:14:24- Hey! I love that price.- I'm shocked.
0:14:24 > 0:14:27That was just £2,000 over their budget.
0:14:27 > 0:14:31That's just incredible. I was not expecting that at all.
0:14:31 > 0:14:33- I'm nervous.- Wow.
0:14:33 > 0:14:37We can potentially buy this house and have a good life...
0:14:37 > 0:14:41- Yeah.- ..in Australia. - It's suddenly become very real.
0:14:46 > 0:14:48To see if they could top house two,
0:14:48 > 0:14:52the family travel to what we thought would be their dream home,
0:14:52 > 0:14:56located in a leafy suburb called Flagstaff Hill.
0:14:56 > 0:14:58From outside, the two-storey house
0:14:58 > 0:15:01had the entire family grinning from ear to ear,
0:15:01 > 0:15:03especially Jessie.
0:15:03 > 0:15:05It's absolutely stunning.
0:15:05 > 0:15:07I told you, it could only be a dream house
0:15:07 > 0:15:09- if it is a two-storey house. - Yeah.- It's massive.
0:15:09 > 0:15:12It looks lovely. Look at the windows, as well.
0:15:12 > 0:15:16However, the inside wasn't quite what they imagined.
0:15:16 > 0:15:19- Wasn't expecting this. - That's quite strange.
0:15:19 > 0:15:20It's nice strange, though.
0:15:20 > 0:15:24It wasn't until they got to the main bedroom with en suite
0:15:24 > 0:15:27that they began to appreciate what this house could offer them.
0:15:28 > 0:15:30This is a nice bedroom.
0:15:30 > 0:15:34This excites me - this en suite, the bedroom, everything.
0:15:35 > 0:15:39The rest of the house needs to be worked around this room, these rooms.
0:15:39 > 0:15:43- That's nice, though.- Oh, that is so pretty, looking over the pool.
0:15:43 > 0:15:46But whilst the bedroom's balcony got Kuba's thumbs up...
0:15:46 > 0:15:48Out here is really nice.
0:15:48 > 0:15:51..the road noise just couldn't be ignored.
0:15:52 > 0:15:53That's too noisy.
0:15:55 > 0:15:59Sadly, that noise from the road is just driving me crazy,
0:15:59 > 0:16:01and it's coming again.
0:16:01 > 0:16:03- You can't relax in that.- No.
0:16:03 > 0:16:06So, though this property may not have been for them,
0:16:06 > 0:16:11could they have afforded it with their £250,000 budget?
0:16:11 > 0:16:14This one, I think, is about £317,000.
0:16:14 > 0:16:16I'm going for 305.
0:16:18 > 0:16:20- Wow.- Ooh!
0:16:20 > 0:16:24That's £104,000 over budget.
0:16:24 > 0:16:26Do you know what?
0:16:26 > 0:16:29- I am glad we liked the second house more.- Yeah.
0:16:29 > 0:16:34- You save £100,000 for liking the house in our range.- Yeah.
0:16:34 > 0:16:36It was a day of highs and lows
0:16:36 > 0:16:39hunting for property in Adelaide's southern suburbs.
0:16:39 > 0:16:42Property one felt too much like an apartment,
0:16:42 > 0:16:45despite the roof deck getting the thumbs up.
0:16:45 > 0:16:49Property two was the real winner with its large, open-plan spaces
0:16:49 > 0:16:52and a pool that got the whole family smiling.
0:16:52 > 0:16:54And house number three failed to win approval
0:16:54 > 0:16:57with the neighbouring road creating a racket
0:16:57 > 0:16:59the family couldn't ignore.
0:16:59 > 0:17:02So, how did everyone vote when it came to properties -
0:17:02 > 0:17:04home or away?
0:17:04 > 0:17:07Based on the properties we've seen today, our votes go to...
0:17:10 > 0:17:12- Australia.- Australia.
0:17:12 > 0:17:16- Undecided.- Really?!- Why, what's...?
0:17:16 > 0:17:18Of the three, I thought there was one that was nice
0:17:18 > 0:17:21and the other two didn't satisfy me at all.
0:17:21 > 0:17:25That's not bad. Three and a half out of four's not bad.
0:17:25 > 0:17:27- It's a good start.- Yeah. - I can see us living here.- Yeah.
0:17:30 > 0:17:34Jessie and Kevin may have found their ideal home,
0:17:34 > 0:17:36but they needed the jobs to fund it.
0:17:39 > 0:17:42Back in the UK, Kevin ran his own fitness company
0:17:42 > 0:17:44he'd built up over the last ten years.
0:17:44 > 0:17:46Impressed!
0:17:46 > 0:17:48I love what I do. It's not work, it's play.
0:17:48 > 0:17:51It's just something that I just absolutely love doing.
0:17:51 > 0:17:53Jessie worked with Kevin
0:17:53 > 0:17:56looking after the marketing side of the business.
0:17:56 > 0:17:59Working and living with Kevin is interesting.
0:17:59 > 0:18:02We have different ideas on how the business should be run.
0:18:02 > 0:18:06But in Australia, she wanted to return to her former profession
0:18:06 > 0:18:07as a scientist.
0:18:07 > 0:18:11I got a degree in forensic science and that's where my passion lies.
0:18:11 > 0:18:16I'd like to do some form of research and development.
0:18:16 > 0:18:19Something that's going to help the world of science.
0:18:21 > 0:18:24Until his new fitness business got up and running down under,
0:18:24 > 0:18:26Kevin planned to work as a coach,
0:18:26 > 0:18:29so we sent him to the corporate health group
0:18:29 > 0:18:32who provides fitness programmes to large businesses,
0:18:32 > 0:18:35where he spoke to team leader Amy.
0:18:35 > 0:18:37I have a team of eight health professionals
0:18:37 > 0:18:39with a very similar background to yours
0:18:39 > 0:18:42and we roll out a range of different services
0:18:42 > 0:18:44to improve the health
0:18:44 > 0:18:46of South Australia's working population.
0:18:46 > 0:18:50Kevin also met clinical services director Sandra,
0:18:50 > 0:18:53and was eager to know if his fitness qualifications
0:18:53 > 0:18:55would be valid in Australia.
0:18:55 > 0:18:59Your qualification would be recognised
0:18:59 > 0:19:01with a couple of caveats.
0:19:01 > 0:19:05You can gain an Australian fitness certificate,
0:19:05 > 0:19:06and once you have that,
0:19:06 > 0:19:10then you would be able to work in a range of organisations.
0:19:10 > 0:19:14- That's good to hear.- Next, Kevin asked about his potential earnings.
0:19:14 > 0:19:17What kind of salary would I expect for that?
0:19:17 > 0:19:23Working on a full-time basis, around 55,000 per year.
0:19:23 > 0:19:28That was about £27,000 - just a tad short of the £30,000
0:19:28 > 0:19:30he earned from running his own business,
0:19:30 > 0:19:32but were there any jobs?
0:19:32 > 0:19:33We have a very large number of staff
0:19:33 > 0:19:36and we would certainly be very interested in meeting with you
0:19:36 > 0:19:40and looking at potential employment in the future with you.
0:19:40 > 0:19:42Excellent. Thank you.
0:19:47 > 0:19:51It was just the news that Kevin had been hoping for.
0:19:51 > 0:19:54Meanwhile, Jessie visited an Adelaide pathology service
0:19:54 > 0:19:58where she met expat managing director Ken.
0:19:58 > 0:20:00She was keen to know if her forensic science degree
0:20:00 > 0:20:02was transferable in Australia.
0:20:02 > 0:20:04Jessie, you'd need to take advice on that.
0:20:04 > 0:20:06Skills for All is a government agency
0:20:06 > 0:20:09that provides help and advice on those sort of issues,
0:20:09 > 0:20:12and also the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists
0:20:12 > 0:20:14will also take a look at your degree
0:20:14 > 0:20:17and decide whether or not that's suitable or not suitable.
0:20:17 > 0:20:20It wasn't as clear-cut as she might have hoped,
0:20:20 > 0:20:23but as Ken explained, she did have other options.
0:20:23 > 0:20:25There's always the technical officer route.
0:20:25 > 0:20:29They do a lot of work in terms of helping the scientists
0:20:29 > 0:20:34and laboratory to make sure that samples are ready.
0:20:34 > 0:20:36It definitely sounds like the route for me.
0:20:36 > 0:20:40So, things were looking up, but what about her earning capacity?
0:20:40 > 0:20:44A technical officer entry grade is around 40,000.
0:20:44 > 0:20:46Goes up to about 55.
0:20:46 > 0:20:49That was about £27,000.
0:20:49 > 0:20:53- That's a starting point for me. I'm happy with that.- Yeah, absolutely.
0:20:53 > 0:20:56Both Kevin and Jessie had been far from disappointed
0:20:56 > 0:20:58with what they'd discovered on the work front.
0:20:58 > 0:21:02So, did that translate into votes for Australia?
0:21:09 > 0:21:11- BOTH:- Australia.
0:21:11 > 0:21:14- Really?!- No surprise. It's good news.
0:21:14 > 0:21:16It's been a good day. You looked pretty happy when I saw you.
0:21:16 > 0:21:20It's given me my oomph to get back on the career ladder.
0:21:21 > 0:21:25- Two days in a row of good news. - It's not bad, is it?- Pretty good.
0:21:31 > 0:21:33With positive results on the work front,
0:21:33 > 0:21:35it was time for the family to get a small taste
0:21:35 > 0:21:38of the lifestyle down under.
0:21:38 > 0:21:41So, they went to Four Oaks Farm in the Adelaide Hills
0:21:41 > 0:21:44where they met everyone's favourite marsupial.
0:21:46 > 0:21:49Today, it has been perfect.
0:21:49 > 0:21:51Seeing everyone so happy,
0:21:51 > 0:21:54I can't put it into words how important it was
0:21:54 > 0:21:57for me to have that family time, and it's quality time, isn't it?
0:21:57 > 0:22:02Next, they saddled up for a ride through the Australian bush.
0:22:02 > 0:22:03Absolutely loved today.
0:22:03 > 0:22:06Bit nervous about the horse riding, but really enjoyed it.
0:22:06 > 0:22:07Yeah, it's been good.
0:22:07 > 0:22:09It brings back memories of Wales,
0:22:09 > 0:22:11but then it's also, like, totally different.
0:22:11 > 0:22:14I can imagine in summer with, like, the beaches and stuff.
0:22:14 > 0:22:17Time spent together gave the whole family the opportunity
0:22:17 > 0:22:19to think about the possible move.
0:22:19 > 0:22:24But for Kieran, his thoughts were about the impossible dilemma.
0:22:24 > 0:22:27If I come to Australia, I'm leaving behind all the family,
0:22:27 > 0:22:30my grandparents and my friends at home.
0:22:30 > 0:22:33If I stay at home, then I'm losing Jessie, Kevin,
0:22:33 > 0:22:36Shay and Kuba, and it's really tough.
0:22:36 > 0:22:38Splitting Kieran and Kuba up
0:22:38 > 0:22:42was something Jessie couldn't bear to think about.
0:22:42 > 0:22:46Kieran is like my son. He has always been treated as such.
0:22:48 > 0:22:51It would be really hurtful, saying goodbye to him.
0:22:51 > 0:22:54Just, like, taking the two people that are consistent in our family
0:22:54 > 0:23:00and tearing them apart, and you feel bad about that, yeah. Sure.
0:23:00 > 0:23:03I would miss Kieran cos, like, we're really close and I see him every day.
0:23:03 > 0:23:06I would miss Kuba, as well, obviously.
0:23:06 > 0:23:09- I hate to admit it, but I would. - HE CHUCKLES
0:23:09 > 0:23:12Kevin also had serious concerns.
0:23:12 > 0:23:16I have my aunt, and I'd miss her greatly.
0:23:17 > 0:23:21She is the closest thing I've got and...
0:23:25 > 0:23:26Yeah, it'd be tough.
0:23:31 > 0:23:34The whole family had a lot to think about,
0:23:34 > 0:23:39but based solely on lifestyle alone, how did they vote?
0:23:40 > 0:23:43Based on the lifestyle we've experienced here today,
0:23:43 > 0:23:45our vote goes to...
0:23:53 > 0:23:54- BOTH:- Australia.
0:23:54 > 0:23:57What made you vote undecided?
0:23:57 > 0:23:59Because, you know, I thought the horse -
0:23:59 > 0:24:01these are things that we could do in England.
0:24:01 > 0:24:03You know, horse riding - Kuba's done it since she was a kid.
0:24:03 > 0:24:06You're halfway, so I'm always happy with that.
0:24:06 > 0:24:08Find the right interest for you
0:24:08 > 0:24:11and I think you would have been swayed by the Australia vote.
0:24:11 > 0:24:13- Another positive day. - Yeah, it's been good.
0:24:13 > 0:24:16And considering it's meant to be their cold season,
0:24:16 > 0:24:19- it's been a really nice day. - Yeah. And no-one fell off the horse.
0:24:26 > 0:24:28Despite Kieran's doubts,
0:24:28 > 0:24:30Jessie and Kevin were more hopeful than ever
0:24:30 > 0:24:33for the dream to become a reality.
0:24:33 > 0:24:37But this reality had to be checked against their finances first,
0:24:37 > 0:24:39so we sat them down to compare the cost of living
0:24:39 > 0:24:44in Australia with the UK, starting with the weekly food shop.
0:24:44 > 0:24:47- I'm feeling nervous.- Are you?
0:24:47 > 0:24:49Kale is double in Australia.
0:24:49 > 0:24:53Yeah, there's a lot more things that are more expensive in Australia
0:24:53 > 0:24:54compared to back home.
0:24:54 > 0:24:59So, per week, we're £24.29 worse off.
0:24:59 > 0:25:01That wasn't a great start.
0:25:01 > 0:25:03Next were the bigger outgoings,
0:25:03 > 0:25:06based on the second home they viewed.
0:25:06 > 0:25:09Wow. That's a big difference in the mortgage.
0:25:09 > 0:25:13So, we're spending just over a grand...
0:25:13 > 0:25:15- More a month.- ..more a month.
0:25:15 > 0:25:17That's quite a lot.
0:25:17 > 0:25:20It was a huge amount of money to be down.
0:25:20 > 0:25:22However, they both remained positive.
0:25:22 > 0:25:27We can get rid of things, but is that living the dream that we want?
0:25:27 > 0:25:30We're spending more to live better.
0:25:30 > 0:25:34- Yeah, it's an upgrade.- Exactly, and...- You've got to pay more.
0:25:34 > 0:25:38And we haven't taken into account what we'll be earning here.
0:25:38 > 0:25:41So, once the potential salaries were taken into account,
0:25:41 > 0:25:44what was the total figure?
0:25:44 > 0:25:48£344 better off.
0:25:48 > 0:25:53That was more than an extra £4,000 in their pocket each year,
0:25:53 > 0:25:55and they were delighted.
0:25:55 > 0:25:57It makes it much more...
0:25:59 > 0:26:02Much more real now for us. We can actually do this.
0:26:02 > 0:26:06We can live how we've always wanted to,
0:26:06 > 0:26:08and be better off.
0:26:08 > 0:26:11That's ticking every single box.
0:26:17 > 0:26:19So, was it a clean sweep
0:26:19 > 0:26:23as the couple chose between finances in the UK and Australia?
0:26:26 > 0:26:28- BOTH:- Australia.
0:26:28 > 0:26:30There's no surprise there.
0:26:32 > 0:26:35You can't really argue with the figures, can you?
0:26:35 > 0:26:37No. No, it was all good.
0:26:42 > 0:26:44Whilst the week had shown the family
0:26:44 > 0:26:48how their prospects could improve with a move to Australia,
0:26:48 > 0:26:50one of their biggest mountains had yet to be climbed.
0:26:51 > 0:26:54The family sat down together to watch messages
0:26:54 > 0:26:56from loved ones back home.
0:26:57 > 0:26:59- ALL:- Hi, guys.
0:26:59 > 0:27:02Jess has always been very close to me.
0:27:02 > 0:27:05We've been like a mother-daughter relationship,
0:27:05 > 0:27:07but it's always been a friendship, as well.
0:27:07 > 0:27:10Kevin is very determined
0:27:10 > 0:27:13and he's just a lovely boy.
0:27:13 > 0:27:16She's more like a sister than a friend.
0:27:16 > 0:27:19We just tell each other everything and she's always been, like,
0:27:19 > 0:27:21a part of our family.
0:27:21 > 0:27:24I don't want them to go, but I will miss them.
0:27:25 > 0:27:28If she's not there, I don't know what I'm going to do exactly,
0:27:28 > 0:27:32but, yeah, I will miss them terribly if they decided to leave.
0:27:32 > 0:27:37It's his dream, and I would no more stand back and hold him from that,
0:27:37 > 0:27:39but I can't help...
0:27:39 > 0:27:41It's the parting.
0:27:43 > 0:27:47So, I just...
0:27:47 > 0:27:52I love him so much, and he is like my own boy.
0:27:53 > 0:27:59We'd really miss them, especially the children.
0:27:59 > 0:28:01They've always been around and we haven't really
0:28:01 > 0:28:05nowhere near spent as much time with Shay.
0:28:05 > 0:28:11But, you know, if that's what the children want,
0:28:11 > 0:28:14and that will make them happy and a better lifestyle,
0:28:14 > 0:28:16we're up for it.
0:28:17 > 0:28:19How are you feeling?
0:28:19 > 0:28:21- I miss it more now.- Yeah.
0:28:21 > 0:28:24Since I've been here, I've tried to put it at the back of my mind.
0:28:24 > 0:28:27- I don't know if you guys have, but I miss them now.- Yeah.
0:28:27 > 0:28:32Just watching my dad on the TV, you just know that he's upset.
0:28:32 > 0:28:35- The quieter he is... - He's quiet when he's upset.
0:28:35 > 0:28:38Quiet. He doesn't deal with upset very well.
0:28:40 > 0:28:42It hurts - actually hurts - when you watch it,
0:28:42 > 0:28:45and to see them there...
0:28:45 > 0:28:48They're giving you advice to just enjoy yourself,
0:28:48 > 0:28:50but it still hurts.
0:28:56 > 0:28:58Watching friends and family was a stark reminder
0:28:58 > 0:29:01of what they would be leaving behind.
0:29:01 > 0:29:03And as the final vote drew closer,
0:29:03 > 0:29:07Jessie feared the possibility of Kuba and Kieran having to split up
0:29:07 > 0:29:10if they were to make the move down under.
0:29:10 > 0:29:13He's my little boy, that's all I can say.
0:29:13 > 0:29:15Him and Kuba are like brother and sister.
0:29:15 > 0:29:17He is like a son to me.
0:29:19 > 0:29:21It'd be like tearing them apart
0:29:21 > 0:29:23if we decide to come here and he didn't.
0:29:24 > 0:29:27Kieran and Kuba realised opposing votes
0:29:27 > 0:29:30could mean a heart-wrenching separation.
0:29:30 > 0:29:31We will miss each other.
0:29:31 > 0:29:34I mean, we were brought up like brother and sister.
0:29:34 > 0:29:36It'll be really hard because he's, like, my friend,
0:29:36 > 0:29:39but then he's my family, as well. He's like my brother.
0:29:39 > 0:29:43So, like, it'll be really hard cos I won't have anybody else here.
0:29:43 > 0:29:45Whether the family would stay together
0:29:45 > 0:29:48rested on their final turn of the cards.
0:29:48 > 0:29:49Based on our experiences down under,
0:29:49 > 0:29:52our vote for the country we live in goes to...
0:30:02 > 0:30:03- ALL:- Australia!
0:30:03 > 0:30:06- Well done! Ooh, I'm so pleased! - Well done, mate.
0:30:06 > 0:30:08That's the best. That's good news.
0:30:08 > 0:30:12- I'm so happy. - Kuba, you voted undecided.
0:30:12 > 0:30:14Yeah, I think I would eventually like to live here,
0:30:14 > 0:30:17but I'm not ready for it right now.
0:30:17 > 0:30:20How about being ready after the summer holidays in the UK?
0:30:20 > 0:30:23Experience an English summer and then come out here for their summer?
0:30:23 > 0:30:25But then it's school and everything again.
0:30:25 > 0:30:29- That's a double summer in a year. - I'm not sure yet.
0:30:29 > 0:30:32- I'm so pleased.- Thank you.
0:30:35 > 0:30:38- You're going to be moving. - No, I'm not.
0:30:42 > 0:30:44It wasn't quite a done deal,
0:30:44 > 0:30:47but with a little more time and persuasion,
0:30:47 > 0:30:49they believed they could bring Kuba round
0:30:49 > 0:30:53to the idea of starting again down under.
0:30:53 > 0:30:58So, now, two years later, are they living at home or away?
0:30:58 > 0:31:02It's 2017 and the family are living in
0:31:02 > 0:31:06the West Midlands, but not for long.
0:31:06 > 0:31:08They're making preparations to move down under
0:31:08 > 0:31:13following their positive experience from the trial week.
0:31:13 > 0:31:14It was everything you wanted it to be
0:31:14 > 0:31:16to give you the information, as well,
0:31:16 > 0:31:18so you're living it first-hand.
0:31:18 > 0:31:21- It's more experience than you would ever get.- Yeah.
0:31:21 > 0:31:24- You can't get that experience on a holiday.- No.
0:31:24 > 0:31:27- You'd never get that. - And you would make it a holiday.
0:31:27 > 0:31:29- If you went on a holiday, you'd make it a holiday.- Yeah.
0:31:29 > 0:31:31We went to see if it was right for us,
0:31:31 > 0:31:33if this could potentially be our dream life
0:31:33 > 0:31:37- and it gave us a good insight, didn't it?- Yeah, massively.
0:31:37 > 0:31:40But there was one less-enthusiastic voice
0:31:40 > 0:31:43when it came to the final turn of the cards.
0:31:43 > 0:31:46At the end of the trial week, when we made our vote,
0:31:46 > 0:31:49I voted undecided because I loved the houses there,
0:31:49 > 0:31:52which are so much better, I loved the lifestyle,
0:31:52 > 0:31:56but when I... I don't know. Like, the lifestyle was better.
0:31:56 > 0:31:58It made me feel like where I actually came from.
0:31:58 > 0:32:00Like, it made me feel like I was back in Wales,
0:32:00 > 0:32:04but then Wales is, what, two hours max down the road from here,
0:32:04 > 0:32:07whereas Australia's 24 hours away.
0:32:07 > 0:32:09Kieran shocked me and Kuba shocked me
0:32:09 > 0:32:12cos Kieran voted for Australia, Kuba voted undecided,
0:32:12 > 0:32:15- and I was thinking...- Shay voted for Australia, as well.- Yeah.
0:32:15 > 0:32:17- Shay's got...- But what possibly...?
0:32:17 > 0:32:22What possible reason could she give to vote undecided?
0:32:22 > 0:32:24Everywhere has its pros and cons.
0:32:24 > 0:32:29So, I enjoyed, like, waking up to the nice morning weather
0:32:29 > 0:32:30and then having the barbecues.
0:32:30 > 0:32:33I feel we spent more time together there.
0:32:33 > 0:32:35I think that's what I like about Australia -
0:32:35 > 0:32:37it kind of gives you that opportunity
0:32:37 > 0:32:41to have more family time, which, here, we don't get much of.
0:32:41 > 0:32:42But then it wasn't...
0:32:42 > 0:32:44It didn't feel like reality.
0:32:49 > 0:32:51And whilst Kieran voted for Australia,
0:32:51 > 0:32:54his mind was actually elsewhere.
0:32:54 > 0:32:56I think the trial week was great,
0:32:56 > 0:33:00but with everything that I was going through at the time with university,
0:33:00 > 0:33:02my final year, and my dissertation,
0:33:02 > 0:33:05I just didn't get enough time over there,
0:33:05 > 0:33:07so I'm hoping to go again.
0:33:07 > 0:33:11Kieran left after the trial week to complete his dissertation
0:33:11 > 0:33:13whilst Kevin, Jessie, Kuba and Shay
0:33:13 > 0:33:16spent time travelling through Australia
0:33:16 > 0:33:20with one very unexpected, high-flying event.
0:33:20 > 0:33:23So, after our trial week, what we decided to do was
0:33:23 > 0:33:25stay a few more days in Adelaide.
0:33:25 > 0:33:28And, from there, we took a road trip to Melbourne.
0:33:28 > 0:33:32So, we headed on to Melbourne, across the Great Ocean Road.
0:33:34 > 0:33:37Decided to stop off and got in the helicopter,
0:33:37 > 0:33:41- and asked Jess to marry me. - I just remember parking up,
0:33:41 > 0:33:43waiting, deciding that we're going to do this tour.
0:33:43 > 0:33:45And he's rummaging in the bag -
0:33:45 > 0:33:49one of the suitcases - and I'm going, "What is he doing?"
0:33:49 > 0:33:51So, I had to sneak Jess off. I was rummaging through my backpack
0:33:51 > 0:33:55trying to find this ring that I'd bought months and months ago.
0:33:55 > 0:33:56She had no idea about.
0:33:56 > 0:33:58And then just to get on the helicopter.
0:33:58 > 0:34:03It's one of those proposals where that picture-perfect moment...
0:34:03 > 0:34:06The scenery outside the helicopter - you're looking down.
0:34:06 > 0:34:09You turn around and, you know, you're in a helicopter.
0:34:09 > 0:34:12Over the microphone, "Will you marry me?"
0:34:12 > 0:34:14It was beautiful, wasn't it?
0:34:14 > 0:34:17If you close your eyes - and I don't have to close my eyes -
0:34:17 > 0:34:20just to picture us in that helicopter
0:34:20 > 0:34:23with the sea below us, it was beautiful.
0:34:23 > 0:34:27However, the proposal also had another effect on Jessie.
0:34:27 > 0:34:32Getting engaged in Australia was probably the...
0:34:32 > 0:34:35I suppose the sealant to, "This is it now."
0:34:35 > 0:34:37You know, this is perfect.
0:34:37 > 0:34:39This is where memories are being made.
0:34:39 > 0:34:43And me and Kev actually did consider,
0:34:43 > 0:34:47"Why didn't we book it for a little bit longer? You know, stay a bit longer?"
0:34:47 > 0:34:49Until we started to get homesick, almost,
0:34:49 > 0:34:51cos you want to prove to yourself you're ready to come home,
0:34:51 > 0:34:53and we weren't ready to come home.
0:34:53 > 0:34:55When we left Australia and got back home,
0:34:55 > 0:34:59you probably remember how miserable I was.
0:34:59 > 0:35:02I'm glad you said that. I was going to say.
0:35:02 > 0:35:06I was quiet, but I knew the only way to snap out of it
0:35:06 > 0:35:09was to take action and that action being,
0:35:09 > 0:35:12"Let's get there now. What do we do to get there, you know?"
0:35:12 > 0:35:14No sooner were they back in the UK
0:35:14 > 0:35:18than they started to make plans to return down under,
0:35:18 > 0:35:21only this time, Australia was going to be home.
0:35:21 > 0:35:24When we got back, we hit the ground running
0:35:24 > 0:35:25and we...
0:35:25 > 0:35:28All the things we were told we needed to do to get back
0:35:28 > 0:35:30to get a visa or sponsorship for Australia,
0:35:30 > 0:35:33we started applying straightaway.
0:35:33 > 0:35:35I'd stay up till so late at night
0:35:35 > 0:35:38just Googling things, doing my research.
0:35:38 > 0:35:40If we're going, we're going for good.
0:35:42 > 0:35:44However, as time passed,
0:35:44 > 0:35:47the distance between applying for a visa and getting one
0:35:47 > 0:35:50grew and grew.
0:35:50 > 0:35:52It probably... Things kept on changing.
0:35:52 > 0:35:56Each year, the visas keep on changing and we just thought,
0:35:56 > 0:35:58"This probably isn't going to work for us."
0:35:58 > 0:36:01Jess was becoming more desperate than I was.
0:36:01 > 0:36:03I was starting to flag a little bit,
0:36:03 > 0:36:06thinking, you know, "Maybe this isn't going to happen."
0:36:07 > 0:36:11- I was the action-taker. - Yeah, you kind of like...
0:36:12 > 0:36:15- ..kept on kicking me up the bum a bit...- Yeah.
0:36:15 > 0:36:17..to keep on doing this.
0:36:17 > 0:36:20"Make sure you contact so-and-so and do this and do that."
0:36:20 > 0:36:22And though they were making some progress,
0:36:22 > 0:36:25it wasn't nearly enough to get them out to Australia.
0:36:25 > 0:36:28So, Jessie took action and began to look at ways
0:36:28 > 0:36:30of boosting her qualifications
0:36:30 > 0:36:33to gain sponsorship opportunities from down under.
0:36:33 > 0:36:36I am studying an MBA, which is a master's of business administration
0:36:36 > 0:36:38at Aston University.
0:36:38 > 0:36:40I decided I needed a more official qualification
0:36:40 > 0:36:43to kind of promote my development
0:36:43 > 0:36:46in the career that I'm aiming to go for in Australia.
0:36:46 > 0:36:49And everything you learn in every module, every subject,
0:36:49 > 0:36:52you are learning it from the corporate level
0:36:52 > 0:36:57all the way down to being a new-starter in the business world.
0:36:57 > 0:36:59But there was an unforeseen benefit
0:36:59 > 0:37:03to Jessie moving into the world of academic business research -
0:37:03 > 0:37:06a benefit that injected new life into their dreams of Oz.
0:37:06 > 0:37:09There's an opportunity for an exchange programme
0:37:09 > 0:37:15either in Adelaide or Brisbane, and, yeah, so, it's now become reality.
0:37:15 > 0:37:19It's now an opportunity for us to actually make a change to our lives.
0:37:19 > 0:37:23So, we're heading off to Brisbane in July.
0:37:23 > 0:37:26Originally, it was for six months, but it's been extended to 12 months
0:37:26 > 0:37:29by the university so I can complete my research project.
0:37:29 > 0:37:31I am hoping that we'll come back in March
0:37:31 > 0:37:35just for my graduation ceremony cos I want the whole family there.
0:37:35 > 0:37:38I want to celebrate that big milestone,
0:37:38 > 0:37:41and then fly back over to finish off my research.
0:37:41 > 0:37:45And, hopefully, by then, it'll be a case of, when we come in March,
0:37:45 > 0:37:47we're actually saying goodbye for good.
0:37:47 > 0:37:52- You're pretty excited about this. - Mm-hm. Pretty? I can't wait!
0:37:53 > 0:37:56The change from a dream of a move down under
0:37:56 > 0:37:58to actual reality brings along
0:37:58 > 0:38:01its own uncertainties for all the family.
0:38:02 > 0:38:05- I'm just nervous for the business, obviously.- Yeah, yeah.
0:38:05 > 0:38:10- I'm nervous. I'm nervous for you being nervous.- Mm.
0:38:10 > 0:38:13Kevin plans to start a training and rehab business down under,
0:38:13 > 0:38:17similar to the one they own in the UK.
0:38:17 > 0:38:19For ten years, I've wanted all the stuff that I've got in this gym,
0:38:19 > 0:38:23I've wanted. And it's kind of like leaving your children.
0:38:23 > 0:38:25You know, you're leaving all the things that you love,
0:38:25 > 0:38:29that you've worked so hard for, you've dreamed about having, owning.
0:38:29 > 0:38:35So, it is hard leaving the business, but we've got a good set of coaches.
0:38:35 > 0:38:39We've got to get some more coaches on board, so, yeah...
0:38:39 > 0:38:41But the way the business runs,
0:38:41 > 0:38:44I think it'll run quite successfully even without me.
0:38:44 > 0:38:50And to oversee it will be Kieran, who won't be going to Australia yet.
0:38:50 > 0:38:52As well as looking after the dogs and the house,
0:38:52 > 0:38:56I'll be overseeing their boot camps and their training.
0:38:56 > 0:38:59So, they've got me all boot-camp qualified now.
0:38:59 > 0:39:03I am a qualified fitness coach, which is really cool.
0:39:03 > 0:39:06And, yeah, it's nice to have their trust with everything
0:39:06 > 0:39:07while they're gone.
0:39:07 > 0:39:10But I will be going over to Australia,
0:39:10 > 0:39:12hopefully in the time that they're there.
0:39:12 > 0:39:15If I do get that opportunity to go over to Queensland,
0:39:15 > 0:39:17definitely going to make the most of it,
0:39:17 > 0:39:19spend a month there and see how it goes.
0:39:21 > 0:39:25Another member of the family who wants to see how it goes is Kuba,
0:39:25 > 0:39:28who's 17 and coming to the end of a make-up course.
0:39:30 > 0:39:33When they first told me they were going back to Australia,
0:39:33 > 0:39:34I thought it would be...
0:39:34 > 0:39:36I wasn't too keen on the idea.
0:39:36 > 0:39:39I thought I'd come and visit, but I didn't want to go.
0:39:39 > 0:39:42But then I researched into things like career paths
0:39:42 > 0:39:45and ideas and then I thought, "I can go,"
0:39:45 > 0:39:48because if I go try it out, I can always come back.
0:39:48 > 0:39:50Like, it's not like I'm going to leave my home.
0:39:50 > 0:39:52Like, I've got my family here
0:39:52 > 0:39:54and I can always come back if it's not for me.
0:39:54 > 0:39:56I was speaking to auntie Sandra today.
0:39:56 > 0:39:57She phoned me up and she went,
0:39:57 > 0:40:00"Do you know, this'll be the making of Kuba."
0:40:00 > 0:40:02And when I heard those words, I thought, "Yeah,
0:40:02 > 0:40:04"she's hit the nail on the head."
0:40:04 > 0:40:07I needed to hear those words from somebody
0:40:07 > 0:40:12who believes in Kuba the way I do, who loves her just as much.
0:40:12 > 0:40:14Mum and Dad say the same. They all said,
0:40:14 > 0:40:18"This is the best thing that can happen to Kuba."
0:40:18 > 0:40:22I don't know. I want to see how the six months go first,
0:40:22 > 0:40:25and then, depending on how I'm feeling,
0:40:25 > 0:40:27whether I'll come back or stay.
0:40:27 > 0:40:30And whilst Kevin's auntie Sandra sees the benefit
0:40:30 > 0:40:32for a move down under for all the family,
0:40:32 > 0:40:35he has his own plans for her.
0:40:35 > 0:40:37With my auntie Sandra, I think she...
0:40:37 > 0:40:41Obviously, she'll miss us as much as I'll miss her.
0:40:41 > 0:40:45But we definitely...
0:40:45 > 0:40:49While we were over in Australia, we wanted her to see what we see.
0:40:49 > 0:40:51She's never been to Australia.
0:40:51 > 0:40:53We want her to experience what we're experiencing,
0:40:53 > 0:40:59so we'll probably kidnap her and hide her in a suitcase or something.
0:40:59 > 0:41:04And for Jessie, she, too, has to face leaving her parents behind.
0:41:04 > 0:41:06Or does she?
0:41:06 > 0:41:10I actually told them that, you know, "We'd like you to come over."
0:41:10 > 0:41:12I don't think I even pussyfooted around with it.
0:41:12 > 0:41:15I just said, "Look, we want you guys to come over."
0:41:15 > 0:41:18I think it's going to be hard. It's going to be harder for Jess
0:41:18 > 0:41:21than she actually realises at this moment.
0:41:23 > 0:41:26They'll probably end up coming over to Australia.
0:41:26 > 0:41:30They'll probably end up selling the house and moving to Australia,
0:41:30 > 0:41:32and I think, why not?
0:41:32 > 0:41:34If they can have the opportunity to do that,
0:41:34 > 0:41:37if it makes Jess happy, then I'm happy.
0:41:37 > 0:41:40But living on the opposite side of the world from Kieran
0:41:40 > 0:41:42is an impossible choice for Kuba.
0:41:46 > 0:41:48I don't like thinking about that cos then
0:41:48 > 0:41:51that's just something that I'll say, "I'm not going."
0:41:51 > 0:41:54But then, at the same time, Kieran wants to start his own career.
0:41:54 > 0:41:57He wants to go down his own path, whereas I think that's what...
0:41:57 > 0:42:00I think everyone just grows apart eventually.
0:42:00 > 0:42:02If they decided to stay for good...
0:42:04 > 0:42:06..I would feel...
0:42:06 > 0:42:09I would feel torn. I would feel very torn
0:42:09 > 0:42:13because that would mean half of my immediate family are in England,
0:42:13 > 0:42:15half of my immediate family would be over in Australia.
0:42:15 > 0:42:19For myself, I think it would totally depend on how I feel...
0:42:21 > 0:42:24..about Queensland when I visit.
0:42:24 > 0:42:27It is a place that appeals to me from Britain,
0:42:27 > 0:42:30but I'd have to see how I feel over in Australia.
0:42:31 > 0:42:34Whilst Kieran and Kuba are waiting until they go down under
0:42:34 > 0:42:37before they make their final decisions,
0:42:37 > 0:42:41Kevin and Jessie are practically in the departure lounge...sort of.
0:42:41 > 0:42:44We're going in two months' time.
0:42:44 > 0:42:48- Yeah, just over.- We haven't sorted out our visa properly.
0:42:48 > 0:42:51It's a really easy procedure.
0:42:51 > 0:42:54The letter's come from the university for confirmation.
0:42:54 > 0:42:56That won't take long.
0:42:57 > 0:43:00- And we're waiting to book flights.- Yeah.
0:43:03 > 0:43:06We're not in a really good position!
0:43:06 > 0:43:08- We just know we're going. - We know we're going.
0:43:08 > 0:43:10But we'll wing it. We'll wing it. We'll get there.
0:43:13 > 0:43:16With a move down under literally happening now,
0:43:16 > 0:43:19it's an exciting, if a little daunting,
