0:00:02 > 0:00:06Nine years ago, a near-fatal road accident left Paul Nicholls fighting for survival.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09We didn't really know whether I was going to get better or not, did we?

0:00:09 > 0:00:14Given a second chance at life, he was determined to make the most of it.

0:00:14 > 0:00:18It made me want to start a new chapter in our life.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22While a trial week down under saw wife Tracey almost on board...

0:00:22 > 0:00:27- Something like this would make me seriously consider being able to make the move.- That's good.

0:00:27 > 0:00:31..granting her husband his dream had the potential to break her heart.

0:00:31 > 0:00:36Just where are the Nicholls family now? In the UK or New Zealand?

0:00:59 > 0:01:03Voted one of the best places in the world to bring up a family,

0:01:03 > 0:01:07it's not hard to understand why almost 9,000 UK residents

0:01:07 > 0:01:10make the move to New Zealand every year.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13Add to that its outstanding natural beauty and temperate climate

0:01:13 > 0:01:16and it's no wonder it is such a desirable

0:01:16 > 0:01:20destination for those seeking a better life.

0:01:20 > 0:01:25Despite never having been, Paul Nicholls was convinced New Zealand

0:01:25 > 0:01:30would offer his family the time together they desperately needed.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33But while wife Tracey could see the appeal, the prospect

0:01:33 > 0:01:38of leaving loved ones in the UK was too difficult to comprehend.

0:01:38 > 0:01:39The following week

0:01:39 > 0:01:43would give the family a chance to sample everything New Zealand had to

0:01:43 > 0:01:48offer before making a decision that would change their lives for ever.

0:01:49 > 0:01:53It took almost 23 hours in the air to get from Birmingham to

0:01:53 > 0:01:56New Zealand but as they touched down in Auckland,

0:01:56 > 0:02:00the Nicholls were in relatively fine form.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02- Long...- Long...

0:02:02 > 0:02:04But these three were gold and taking it in their stride, really.

0:02:04 > 0:02:08I didn't think it was boring at all.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10We haven't had that much sleep but feel pretty...

0:02:10 > 0:02:15- Still feel OK.- Feel pretty good, don't we?- Tracey looks OK, as well.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19Flattery doesn't necessarily get you what you want, Paul!

0:02:19 > 0:02:21It's a long flight for people to kind of...

0:02:21 > 0:02:25You know, they can't just pop over and visit. It is a long way to go.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Overall, first impressions appeared good.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32- Everything seems nice and chilled, laid-back.- And really friendly.- And comfortable.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Everyone seems really friendly, so far.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37But did their enthusiasm continue as the family set

0:02:37 > 0:02:42out on a journey that may have changed their lives for ever?

0:02:42 > 0:02:44Meet the Nicholls.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47They were mum Tracey, dad Paul, Roman,

0:02:47 > 0:02:51aged 10, Zeraphina who was seven and three-year-old Cassian.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55They lived in Halesowen in the West Midlands.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Life in the UK was a daily juggling act for Mum and Dad.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02We are like ships passing in the night constantly.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Running three fitness businesses with a young family in tow

0:03:05 > 0:03:06was no easy task.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10It's nonstop and we have got to the point almost where we think it's

0:03:10 > 0:03:14normal and people are constantly saying, don't know how you do it.

0:03:14 > 0:03:15I don't know how you do it.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18The relentless routine was wearing them down.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22Instead of living in the British rat race,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25I want to get out of that and spend more quality time with the family.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Desperate for a new beginning,

0:03:27 > 0:03:31Paul was convinced a move to New Zealand would benefit the children.

0:03:31 > 0:03:36I feel the way this country is moving is that

0:03:36 > 0:03:39the kids are growing up too quick.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41I want to give them manners, respect,

0:03:41 > 0:03:44treat other people as you want to be treated yourself.

0:03:44 > 0:03:48My understanding is that the New Zealand way of life is very much like that.

0:03:48 > 0:03:52But getting Tracey to buy into the dream move was proving tricky.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55I would say I'm probably 50-50.

0:03:55 > 0:04:00The idea of it appeals, but then I sit and think practically

0:04:00 > 0:04:02and logistically,

0:04:02 > 0:04:07that's when I kind of get emotional or a little bit scared of it all.

0:04:07 > 0:04:10I would say I'm a lot more passionate about it than Tracey.

0:04:10 > 0:04:13Paul is a very optimistic person

0:04:13 > 0:04:16and always sees the best in every situation.

0:04:16 > 0:04:20Especially when he was recovering from a near-fatal motorbike

0:04:20 > 0:04:22accident nine years ago.

0:04:22 > 0:04:27His brother rang me and he just said to me, "He's had an accident.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29"And you need to be there.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32"He is speaking, but he's in a bad way."

0:04:32 > 0:04:37Having suffered multiple injuries, Paul spent months in recovery.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41We didn't really know whether I was going to get better or not, did we?

0:04:43 > 0:04:45Sorry...

0:04:45 > 0:04:47Come on, chin up.

0:04:49 > 0:04:50It's hard, hard times.

0:04:50 > 0:04:56It's been years, and I still...get upset about it.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59His personality was affected by his injuries.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04Paul has always been a joker and suddenly all that was gone.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07There was no emotion. You couldn't have a laugh with him.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09- You can't remember stuff with the children, can you?- No.

0:05:09 > 0:05:14That first year of Zeraphina's life, I can't recall any of it.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17I wasn't Dad for me children.

0:05:17 > 0:05:19I wasn't husband for me wife.

0:05:19 > 0:05:22It took a long time to overcome it.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27Well, I've overcome it now, and I'm here to tell the story.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29Time to do something about it.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34That experience was a huge part of his drive for a fresh

0:05:34 > 0:05:35start down under.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37In New Zealand, were we to start again,

0:05:37 > 0:05:40say a new chapter in our life to move on,

0:05:40 > 0:05:45maybe slow things down a little bit, step back and enjoy life.

0:05:45 > 0:05:47After everything they had been through,

0:05:47 > 0:05:51Tracey was willing to give New Zealand serious consideration.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54But the prospect of leaving her parents in the UK was a real

0:05:54 > 0:05:56stumbling block.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00They play a massive role in the children's lives.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03I just see how the kids are with them.

0:06:03 > 0:06:05- SHE SOBS - Oh, sorry.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07No...

0:06:07 > 0:06:09They are just always there.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11You know, for me.

0:06:11 > 0:06:16And I do think we would break their hearts by going.

0:06:17 > 0:06:21The week ahead was crucial in deciding where the family

0:06:21 > 0:06:23would spend the rest of their lives.

0:06:23 > 0:06:29It needs to be massively for the better of the family

0:06:29 > 0:06:33for me to make the move in all honesty.

0:06:33 > 0:06:38The whole idea of it all just sounds amazing and it all sounds fantastic,

0:06:38 > 0:06:40but it is the other side of the world.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48The Nicholls were spending their trial week

0:06:48 > 0:06:51on the Hibiscus Coast, north of Auckland.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53Home for their stay was a beachfront property

0:06:53 > 0:06:57but was their first taste of Kiwi living to their liking?

0:06:58 > 0:07:01- Wowee! Look at that.- Wow.

0:07:01 > 0:07:05- What a view.- That's made me really fill up, that has. Oh, my God.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08Paul couldn't have wished for a better start to the week

0:07:08 > 0:07:11and quickly began to feel settled.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14Imagine coming home to that every day.

0:07:14 > 0:07:17- Ooh!- Coming home from school, straight out onto the beach.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19Everything has been fantastic.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22It's living up to what I wanted it to be already. And more.

0:07:22 > 0:07:26But the distance from home started to sink in for Tracey...

0:07:26 > 0:07:29It's so beautiful, but then I've also got this thought that

0:07:29 > 0:07:32thousands of miles away are the family.

0:07:33 > 0:07:38..though she couldn't fail to be impressed by what she had seen so far.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40When I think about the life for the children,

0:07:40 > 0:07:43I mean, that's priceless, really.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46We'll see what the rest of the week brings, really.

0:07:50 > 0:07:55Back in the UK in 2016, the Nicholls lived in a three-bedroom semi.

0:07:55 > 0:07:59It's a nice house, nice area, nice and quiet and tranquil.

0:07:59 > 0:08:01Obviously, it's only three bedrooms,

0:08:01 > 0:08:05- we've got three children, we need a four-bedroom home now, really, don't we?- Ideally, yeah.

0:08:05 > 0:08:09They had a budget of £300,000 for a house down under

0:08:09 > 0:08:12and knew just what they wanted.

0:08:12 > 0:08:16Nice large living space, open-plan, nice big kitchen,

0:08:16 > 0:08:18cos we revolve, our family, in the kitchen, don't we?

0:08:18 > 0:08:21- Yeah. That's really important. - Yeah.

0:08:21 > 0:08:22A few acres of land would be nice.

0:08:22 > 0:08:26So we can have a little motocross track.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29Finding the ideal home was a must for Paul to get Tracey

0:08:29 > 0:08:31onside for a move.

0:08:31 > 0:08:33We showed the family three properties.

0:08:33 > 0:08:38Two close to budget and one which could be their ideal family home.

0:08:38 > 0:08:42First stop was in Millwater, a new development close to the

0:08:42 > 0:08:46motorway meaning easy access for the 11-mile commute to Auckland.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49But what did the Nicholls think of this modern three-bedroom

0:08:49 > 0:08:50family townhouse?

0:08:52 > 0:08:56- Oh, that's lovely, isn't it? - Look at that!- It's open-plan.

0:08:56 > 0:08:57Oh, that kitchen is beautiful.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00Things were off to a positive start.

0:09:00 > 0:09:02That's a nice living space, isn't it?

0:09:02 > 0:09:04Or were they?

0:09:04 > 0:09:07Not quite as big as I would like.

0:09:07 > 0:09:11- And is that the only space, just a little courtyard?- Looks like it.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14Because we would need a garden, wouldn't we, for you guys?

0:09:14 > 0:09:16That's not enough.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19Upstairs fell short on space as well.

0:09:19 > 0:09:24This is a nursery room, isn't it?

0:09:24 > 0:09:26- Looks a small room.- Yeah.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28And with just three bedrooms on offer,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31the dreaded word "sharing" was suggested.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34The only thing is, the two of you would still be sharing a room.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37- I want it to be in my room. - ROMAN: I don't really fancy that. - Mm.

0:09:37 > 0:09:42But Mum and Dad's room had plenty of space with an en suite to match.

0:09:42 > 0:09:45- Oh, wow! This is lovely. - This is cool.

0:09:45 > 0:09:46We could move in here.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50- And not have to do anything.- Oh, gosh, no.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52But if they did fancy doing some renovations,

0:09:52 > 0:09:55the large garage created options.

0:09:55 > 0:09:59You could have like a little... almost like the studio type thing.

0:09:59 > 0:10:02- Bedroom, play area. - Not Zeraphina had her way!

0:10:02 > 0:10:06I think it should be, like, for us lot to play in!

0:10:06 > 0:10:08Good plan, Zeraphina.

0:10:08 > 0:10:11But was this somewhere the family could afford to

0:10:11 > 0:10:13make their own on a £300,000 budget?

0:10:13 > 0:10:19I'm thinking probably about £320,000.

0:10:19 > 0:10:21I'll go with 340.

0:10:21 > 0:10:22OK.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27- Ooh!- 330.- Bang right.- In between us.

0:10:27 > 0:10:31That was £30,000 over budget, but they were not put off.

0:10:31 > 0:10:32It's achievable.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35- This is somewhere that we could live.- Come straight to.

0:10:37 > 0:10:41With things off to a flying start, the next property was in Stillwater,

0:10:41 > 0:10:44a coastal suburb some 25 miles north of Auckland -

0:10:44 > 0:10:48an ideal home for those who enjoy the outdoors.

0:10:48 > 0:10:52But was this modern four-bedroom house what the family was looking for?

0:10:53 > 0:10:57- Oh, wow! Oh, that looks beautiful. - It's nice and muddy.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59This has got to be a dream house.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01And the inside...

0:11:01 > 0:11:05Oh, wow! Oh, my God!

0:11:05 > 0:11:08- Oh, my word. - It's lovely.

0:11:09 > 0:11:14And the gushing continued to flow with the open-plan design.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16This is like, perfect.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18Beyond perfect, isn't it, this?

0:11:18 > 0:11:22The property was intended to capture the best of the magnificent landscape.

0:11:22 > 0:11:23That's what you call a view.

0:11:25 > 0:11:26Look at that, guys!

0:11:26 > 0:11:29And Paul could already see himself living there.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31- Having your breakfast out here in the morning.- Yeah.

0:11:31 > 0:11:34You would just feel like you were on holiday every day, wouldn't you?

0:11:34 > 0:11:38Back indoors, the positivity continued.

0:11:38 > 0:11:40- Oh, wow!- Nice sized bedroom. - This is a lovely room.

0:11:40 > 0:11:41The master en suite

0:11:41 > 0:11:45and walk-in wardrobe had Tracey like a child in a sweet shop.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47Just what Mummy wants.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51And bedrooms for the real children also went down a treat.

0:11:51 > 0:11:52Goodness me.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54What's in there, Zeraphina?

0:11:55 > 0:11:58A place to hide and something to put your...

0:11:58 > 0:12:02- Oh, wow!- Gosh.- Gosh, this is...

0:12:02 > 0:12:03Didn't expect this.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05Oh! Garden.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08- Look at this space we've got out here.- Oh, look at this.

0:12:08 > 0:12:09Another room with a view.

0:12:10 > 0:12:14What more could you ask for? Perfect, isn't it?

0:12:14 > 0:12:17It was a property that had the power to sway minds.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20Somewhere like this would make me seriously,

0:12:20 > 0:12:23- seriously consider being able to make the move.- That's good.

0:12:23 > 0:12:24That's all I want to hear.

0:12:24 > 0:12:26Music to Paul's ears.

0:12:26 > 0:12:30But was it within reach of their £300,000 budget?

0:12:30 > 0:12:31OK, then, guys.

0:12:31 > 0:12:35- How much are we thinking this one is?- I'm thinking 550,000.

0:12:35 > 0:12:39All right. I think is going to be around 450.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41OK.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43- Are you ready? - Let's have a look.

0:12:45 > 0:12:48- 380!- No!- Oh, my gosh!

0:12:48 > 0:12:53It was 80,000 over budget, but a lot less than they expected.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57That is unbelievable.

0:12:57 > 0:12:59Pleased with the price and property,

0:12:59 > 0:13:02the Nicholls still had one more house to see.

0:13:02 > 0:13:05Situated in Orewa, one of Auckland's largest suburbs,

0:13:05 > 0:13:10would this quirky 1960s-style house also wow the family?

0:13:11 > 0:13:12OK.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14Here we go.

0:13:15 > 0:13:19OK... Big.

0:13:19 > 0:13:20It's quite spacious.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22Open.

0:13:22 > 0:13:23And that's modern, obviously.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25Yeah.

0:13:25 > 0:13:26Kitchen is a good size.

0:13:26 > 0:13:30Paul was still upbeat, but Tracey, not so much.

0:13:31 > 0:13:32- Very woody.- Yeah.

0:13:32 > 0:13:36- The smell, the wood. - You can smell the wood.- Smell it.

0:13:36 > 0:13:40Outdoors, though, the wooden patio didn't seem to bother her at all.

0:13:40 > 0:13:43- Well, this is a nice, big area, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:13:43 > 0:13:47- Catches the sun.- There's a lot of land...- Outside space.- ..actually, with this.

0:13:47 > 0:13:49- I mean, it's very private, isn't it? - Yeah, it's nice.

0:13:49 > 0:13:53Back indoors and Tracey's nostrils were twitching again.

0:13:53 > 0:13:57Is that damp I can smell? That's damp.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00It's just the old... the old wood smell.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02- Do you think? - Yeah, it's all old wood.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04But Tracey knew better.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06- It's damp.- Old wood.

0:14:06 > 0:14:07No, it isn't, it's damp.

0:14:07 > 0:14:09- OK, it's damp.- It is.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12Did you get that? It's damp.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15And Tracey's reaction to the bedroom was a bit soggy, too.

0:14:17 > 0:14:20- That's a bit unusual!- Yeah.- OK.

0:14:20 > 0:14:23Double bed, but there's no storage, is there? So this is...

0:14:23 > 0:14:25That's a bit nicer, isn't it?

0:14:25 > 0:14:28For a big house, though, there's not a lot of storage, is there?

0:14:28 > 0:14:32But did the family bathroom lift their spirits?

0:14:32 > 0:14:35Oh. Bathroom... OK.

0:14:35 > 0:14:36No shelf.

0:14:36 > 0:14:37Storage.

0:14:37 > 0:14:39No shower.

0:14:39 > 0:14:42It was far from the perfect property after all.

0:14:42 > 0:14:46But if the price fell on the right side of their £300,000 budget,

0:14:46 > 0:14:48could it bring them round?

0:14:48 > 0:14:52I'm thinking about 260.

0:14:52 > 0:14:54I'll go with...

0:14:54 > 0:14:57- 290.- OK.

0:14:57 > 0:15:00Shall we find out, then, how much it is?

0:15:04 > 0:15:05Turn it over, Zeraphina.

0:15:07 > 0:15:10SHE GASPS

0:15:10 > 0:15:12- Oh!- Oh, my gosh!- Oh, my gosh!

0:15:12 > 0:15:16It was almost 50% over budget.

0:15:16 > 0:15:22£440,000 and then the amount of money that we would have to spend...

0:15:22 > 0:15:26- ..would just be phenomenal, so... - It would be about 500,000.

0:15:26 > 0:15:31Phew, then, that's a relief that we're all not really bothered about it,

0:15:31 > 0:15:34because we certainly couldn't afford it anyway.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37The Nicholls' house-hunting day delivered mixed results.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40Despite being a bedroom short of ideal,

0:15:40 > 0:15:42the first property's modern interior appealed.

0:15:42 > 0:15:46And it was somewhere the family felt they could call home.

0:15:46 > 0:15:50The second house was the dream home and although over budget,

0:15:50 > 0:15:52Tracey felt she could be tempted.

0:15:52 > 0:15:55The final property's outdoor space impressed

0:15:55 > 0:15:59but indoors was a let-down and left Tracey with a bad smell.

0:15:59 > 0:16:03So, did they vote for the UK or New Zealand?

0:16:04 > 0:16:09Based on the properties that we have seen today, our vote goes to...

0:16:15 > 0:16:17..New Zealand!

0:16:17 > 0:16:21New Zealand!

0:16:21 > 0:16:22Hold it up, hold it up.

0:16:22 > 0:16:25- New Zealand? - You all like the New Zealand houses?

0:16:25 > 0:16:27I think they are more posher.

0:16:27 > 0:16:31- You feel like you're on holiday all the time, which is awesome. - That's good.

0:16:31 > 0:16:35Everything that we wanted, that we said we wanted in a property, we've seen.

0:16:38 > 0:16:41A unanimous vote for New Zealand was a step in the right

0:16:41 > 0:16:44direction for Paul's dream of a better life.

0:16:44 > 0:16:46But if it were to become a reality,

0:16:46 > 0:16:50the couple would need secure employment.

0:16:50 > 0:16:53Back in the UK, they both worked in the fitness industry,

0:16:53 > 0:16:55with three businesses between them.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58The dream was to pool their resources down under.

0:16:59 > 0:17:03If we had one business that we could run between ourselves,

0:17:03 > 0:17:05life would be so much, so much easier.

0:17:05 > 0:17:08Leaving behind what they had built up in the UK would have been

0:17:08 > 0:17:12a wrench, but Paul was convinced it was worth it.

0:17:12 > 0:17:15If I want to go there, I'll do whatever it takes to get there.

0:17:16 > 0:17:19To find out how they would go about starting their own

0:17:19 > 0:17:21business down under, we arranged for them

0:17:21 > 0:17:24to meet an expat couple who had done just that.

0:17:25 > 0:17:32Mike, also known as Gladiator Wolf, and wife Paula moved to New Zealand 12 years ago.

0:17:32 > 0:17:36Tracey was keen to know how their fitness business was getting on.

0:17:37 > 0:17:41Three or four big chains here, all across New Zealand.

0:17:41 > 0:17:44They're so cheap, and they're undercutting everybody.

0:17:44 > 0:17:45It is a hard, competitive market.

0:17:45 > 0:17:49But if you have got a good product, you will do well.

0:17:49 > 0:17:52But an income was needed whilst researching the business

0:17:52 > 0:17:56so what kind of money could they earn as personal trainers?

0:17:56 > 0:18:01Personal trainers and anywhere between 60 to 100 bucks an hour.

0:18:01 > 0:18:05At the time, that was between £35 and £65 an hour,

0:18:05 > 0:18:07doubling their current income.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09But would their work-life balance improve?

0:18:10 > 0:18:12We have three businesses back home

0:18:12 > 0:18:15and it's just so busy, the quality of life we have,

0:18:15 > 0:18:19we're like headless chickens just kind of passing ships.

0:18:19 > 0:18:24- How do you guys get along, do you have the same?- Exactly the same!

0:18:24 > 0:18:26I think that's the nature of the business, though, isn't it?

0:18:26 > 0:18:29If you've got a business and you got three children, it's busy!

0:18:29 > 0:18:33On the upside, though, Paula was quick to point out that they had no regrets moving.

0:18:33 > 0:18:37The best thing, I would say we have probably done.

0:18:37 > 0:18:38- Ever done?- Yeah.

0:18:38 > 0:18:40It's an amazing country.

0:18:40 > 0:18:44It's just so beautiful and laid-back here.

0:18:44 > 0:18:46It was an encouraging visit.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48But when it came to the vote, was it enough to convince

0:18:48 > 0:18:52Tracey Paul's dream of life down under was workable?

0:18:52 > 0:18:56OK, after our experiences today, we choose...

0:19:05 > 0:19:06- New Zealand!- Undecided.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10I knew you would vote New Zealand

0:19:10 > 0:19:13- and I've just got a few little concerns that...- Understandable.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16..I need to just find out more information before I can

0:19:16 > 0:19:18definitely say I could make a move based on the job.

0:19:18 > 0:19:23May be hard, won't be easy, but we could do it if we wanted to.

0:19:29 > 0:19:33Tracey's undecided vote left Paul's dream much less certain.

0:19:33 > 0:19:37But a move was all about improving the family's lifestyle.

0:19:37 > 0:19:41So we sent the Nicholls off to explore one of New Zealand's famous cycleways.

0:19:42 > 0:19:46Their route took them along a five mile track around the

0:19:46 > 0:19:48Orewa tidal estuary.

0:19:49 > 0:19:53- Come on, Mum, budge up a bit. - Yeah, I'm right here.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57Go, Phina, go, Phina!

0:19:59 > 0:20:00OK, that's a nice spot.

0:20:00 > 0:20:04The day was a reminder of what they were missing back home.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06They're loving it.

0:20:06 > 0:20:08Yes, I could see us doing this.

0:20:08 > 0:20:12Yeah, it has been a lovely day.

0:20:12 > 0:20:16Just doing this kind of every weekend, yeah,

0:20:16 > 0:20:19- I have to admit, it is pretty awesome, really.- Yeah.

0:20:19 > 0:20:22And it put Tracey in a reflective mood.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25With your accident and everything we have been through

0:20:25 > 0:20:28and we always said life is there to be lived.

0:20:30 > 0:20:32And I know back home actually, it's...

0:20:34 > 0:20:38- ..it's just...- A rat race. - ..a rat race, yeah.

0:20:39 > 0:20:42And we take so much for granted.

0:20:42 > 0:20:49We really do, whereas, like, today is making me really appreciate everything and...

0:20:49 > 0:20:50Live life to the full.

0:20:50 > 0:20:54..appreciate you being here and they could have been without a dad

0:20:54 > 0:21:00and it's just great, the five of us together, and enjoying it.

0:21:00 > 0:21:03The simple act of being together was enough to give Tracey

0:21:03 > 0:21:04pause for thought.

0:21:04 > 0:21:06But when it came to the vote for lifestyle,

0:21:06 > 0:21:09did the family go for home or away?

0:21:10 > 0:21:13Based on the New Zealand lifestyle we vote...

0:21:21 > 0:21:23ALL: New Zealand!

0:21:25 > 0:21:28- Well, that's a bit of a full house. - That's a unanimous vote.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30What has made you choose New Zealand?

0:21:30 > 0:21:35First of all, it's been nice and sunny and second of all,

0:21:35 > 0:21:40the parks are like, really good.

0:21:40 > 0:21:41Going on the beach.

0:21:41 > 0:21:46And is just been lovely to spend some lovely time all together.

0:21:46 > 0:21:47We had a fantastic day,

0:21:47 > 0:21:50could see us doing this for the rest of our lives.

0:21:50 > 0:21:55It's hitting me that, yeah, it's got that to offer us.

0:21:55 > 0:21:57So... Yeah.

0:22:00 > 0:22:04It was clear that the Kiwi lifestyle had prompted a soul search

0:22:04 > 0:22:07for Tracey but if Paul's aspirations were to become

0:22:07 > 0:22:10a reality, the family's finances would have to stack up.

0:22:10 > 0:22:13This is when it all becomes a little bit more real.

0:22:13 > 0:22:15See if we can afford it.

0:22:15 > 0:22:19We provided a comparison of costs between the UK and New Zealand.

0:22:19 > 0:22:22First up, the weekly food bill.

0:22:22 > 0:22:24- That's...- Interesting that chicken is a staple...

0:22:24 > 0:22:27- Our staple diet!- So that's cheaper.

0:22:27 > 0:22:31- That's working out cheaper. - Same with the fish.- Yeah.

0:22:31 > 0:22:32And milk.

0:22:32 > 0:22:34Yes, milk's more expensive, isn't it? So...

0:22:34 > 0:22:36HE MURMURS

0:22:38 > 0:22:43It's a difference of £48.56 more expensive here.

0:22:44 > 0:22:48It was a significant weekly increase of nearly £50.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51And basing their sums on the first property they saw,

0:22:51 > 0:22:54their mortgage would have almost doubled down under.

0:22:54 > 0:22:56We're looking at 506.

0:22:58 > 0:22:59Extra.

0:22:59 > 0:23:01Yeah, that's massive, isn't it?

0:23:01 > 0:23:06It was a huge increase in monthly outgoings but basing their

0:23:06 > 0:23:08income on being personal trainers

0:23:08 > 0:23:12and taking away the UK business overheads, the couple discovered

0:23:12 > 0:23:17they could be almost £2,000 better off every month in New Zealand.

0:23:17 > 0:23:19- No-brainer.- I know.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22And actually, that was based on the house we liked,

0:23:22 > 0:23:25the house we really, really liked.

0:23:25 > 0:23:27- That makes that look absolutely... - Possible.

0:23:27 > 0:23:29- That's probably slightly achievable. - Achievable.

0:23:29 > 0:23:33No prizes for weighing up how this vote went.

0:23:33 > 0:23:35OK, looking at the numbers

0:23:35 > 0:23:40and figures based on New Zealand's earnings, we shall be voting for...

0:23:49 > 0:23:52BOTH: New Zealand!

0:23:52 > 0:23:54- Great.- I knew you would do it.

0:23:54 > 0:23:57Well, it's a no-brainer, isn't it?

0:23:57 > 0:24:00- We would have a slightly easier lifestyle without the business. - Yeah.

0:24:00 > 0:24:02- More family time for the children. - Yeah.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05- And we can just help and support each other, can't we, really?- Yeah.

0:24:05 > 0:24:07Yeah. Good.

0:24:11 > 0:24:15Paul's dream of a fresh start in New Zealand survived another day.

0:24:15 > 0:24:18But there was still the final obstacle.

0:24:18 > 0:24:22Struggling with the idea of taking the children away from their grandparents.

0:24:22 > 0:24:26With Cassian still sleeping, Roman and Zeraphina had

0:24:26 > 0:24:29assured Mum and Dad they would like to watch the messages from home.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33I am dreading this bit.

0:24:33 > 0:24:35Hello, everyone.

0:24:35 > 0:24:36Hi, Paul.

0:24:36 > 0:24:37Hi, kids.

0:24:37 > 0:24:40Hi, Paul, Tracey and the kids.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43- Hi, guys!- Hope you are really enjoying yourself.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46Paul is very caring, he's very strong minded as well.

0:24:46 > 0:24:48If you ever need anything, he's always there.

0:24:48 > 0:24:50He always wants you to help him out quite a lot, as well!

0:24:51 > 0:24:53Can't say anything bad about him,

0:24:53 > 0:24:56- because he's always been such a good lad.- Yeah, really good lad.

0:24:56 > 0:24:58Phones us up regular, to make sure we're all right.

0:24:58 > 0:25:01- Checking to see if we are still alive! - SHE LAUGHS

0:25:01 > 0:25:03Tracey is a lovely daughter.

0:25:03 > 0:25:05- We love her to bits, both of us. - If ever I need her, I just give her

0:25:05 > 0:25:09a call and she's there for me.

0:25:09 > 0:25:10- Well, for both of us, isn't she?- Yeah.

0:25:10 > 0:25:14We've supported each other through hard times, good times.

0:25:14 > 0:25:17Just a proper friendship, really.

0:25:17 > 0:25:20Don't know where he got the idea from, New Zealand.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23I didn't want to think about it, that they would go over there.

0:25:23 > 0:25:26He's done extremely well to get back to where he is now

0:25:26 > 0:25:32and I think that was also a turning point in Paul as well, where you

0:25:32 > 0:25:36understand that life is so delicate that it can be taken away from you.

0:25:36 > 0:25:41That to go to New Zealand, it's only pushed him on to want it even more.

0:25:41 > 0:25:43I'd be gutted to lose her.

0:25:44 > 0:25:46Oh, dear.

0:25:46 > 0:25:49I shall miss my lovely hugs.

0:25:49 > 0:25:52And that's what you miss most.

0:25:52 > 0:25:54That closeness.

0:25:54 > 0:25:56I think it'll be, like, times for birthdays,

0:25:56 > 0:26:01Christmases when we usually open presents together and...

0:26:01 > 0:26:04..there's just be none of that any more.

0:26:10 > 0:26:13I'll really, really miss you.

0:26:13 > 0:26:15I'd never hold you back.

0:26:15 > 0:26:17I think it's amazing, what you want to do for your family.

0:26:17 > 0:26:22Whatever you decide to do, we wish you all the best in the world.

0:26:22 > 0:26:24We will miss you loads, you know that.

0:26:24 > 0:26:26And you know we love you.

0:26:26 > 0:26:27Very much.

0:26:27 > 0:26:29It's a big decision.

0:26:29 > 0:26:33Think very, very hard about it before you make the final decision.

0:26:33 > 0:26:35Weigh it all up, weigh everything up.

0:26:37 > 0:26:38Love you, bye.

0:26:42 > 0:26:44PAUL SIGHS

0:26:45 > 0:26:48- That was emotional, wasn't it?- Yeah.

0:26:48 > 0:26:51I'd just miss them and that, if we actually came.

0:26:51 > 0:26:53So a big decision you've got to make.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56If I'm not there, who's going to help them?

0:26:57 > 0:26:59That's what's hard.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06Watching messages from loved ones was difficult for everyone

0:27:06 > 0:27:10but for Tracey in particular, the impact was crushing.

0:27:10 > 0:27:13And with a change of weather as the final vote loomed,

0:27:13 > 0:27:17was there a change of heart, too?

0:27:17 > 0:27:19It's just seeing friends and family messages now that has just,

0:27:19 > 0:27:25as I knew, would just throw a massive, massive spanner in the works.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28We just spend so much time together as a family.

0:27:30 > 0:27:32And then we will lose that, the children will lose that

0:27:32 > 0:27:37and they will lose that and that's something massive to consider.

0:27:37 > 0:27:40I love my parents equally as much as she does hers.

0:27:40 > 0:27:45However, I... You know, my life is now about my children.

0:27:45 > 0:27:47I really want to do what's best for them.

0:27:47 > 0:27:51He can switch off more than I can.

0:27:51 > 0:27:57He just looks at the final outcome and it's a new chapter

0:27:57 > 0:28:00and the kids have got the rest of their lives here.

0:28:00 > 0:28:02He looks at that, and the bigger picture.

0:28:02 > 0:28:06Family, in all senses, was both the primary inspiration for Paul's dream

0:28:06 > 0:28:09and also its principal stumbling block.

0:28:09 > 0:28:11No matter how rich the life in New Zealand,

0:28:11 > 0:28:15could they really leave their family behind?

0:28:15 > 0:28:17I've got rose-tinted glasses on.

0:28:17 > 0:28:20Do I need to look and spend more time here to make that solid

0:28:20 > 0:28:24decision? That there is definitely enough here to...

0:28:25 > 0:28:27..to...to break up the family?

0:28:27 > 0:28:30There's been so many plus points.

0:28:30 > 0:28:35But the one negative one is, like, the really big negative.

0:28:35 > 0:28:38So, it's going to be hard to say.

0:28:38 > 0:28:42The family's future hinged on one, final turn of the cards.

0:28:43 > 0:28:47Based on all our experiences in New Zealand,

0:28:47 > 0:28:48we choose...

0:29:04 > 0:29:06- ALL:- ..New Zealand!

0:29:06 > 0:29:09- New Zealand!- Yeah!

0:29:10 > 0:29:13Well... I'm surprised by your vote.

0:29:13 > 0:29:16It was really hard to make the decision.

0:29:17 > 0:29:21I think I'm optimistic that grandparents will visit.

0:29:21 > 0:29:24I'm hanging on to that hope but I think...

0:29:26 > 0:29:29..I also have to accept that you're my priority,

0:29:29 > 0:29:31and the children are my priority,

0:29:31 > 0:29:36and if the five of us can have a better quality of life here, then...

0:29:36 > 0:29:38..then that's really important.

0:29:38 > 0:29:42Well, for me, it's everything and more than we've ever hoped for.

0:29:42 > 0:29:46Now I think we've just got a lot of work ahead of us, really.

0:29:46 > 0:29:50So many decisions to be made, and so much to look at.

0:29:50 > 0:29:53What do you think, then? Back to the UK?

0:29:53 > 0:29:57Start...thinking about the future, what we can do?

0:30:00 > 0:30:05The Nicholls' first trip Down Under was an emotional roller coaster

0:30:05 > 0:30:08but with Tracey ultimately convinced that New Zealand could give

0:30:08 > 0:30:11her family everything they wanted,

0:30:11 > 0:30:15it looked liked Paul's dream would soon be their reality.

0:30:15 > 0:30:18But, 12 months on from that momentous decision,

0:30:18 > 0:30:22are the Nicholls living at home or away?

0:30:22 > 0:30:28It's April 2017, and the Nicholls are living in...

0:30:28 > 0:30:30..Halesowen in the UK.

0:30:30 > 0:30:33But, if Paul has his way, not for much longer.

0:30:33 > 0:30:36They're currently working on selling the businesses,

0:30:36 > 0:30:38ready for making the move.

0:30:39 > 0:30:42The big push for Paul is fuelled by the memory of their time

0:30:42 > 0:30:45spent in New Zealand right after the trial week.

0:30:46 > 0:30:50After the filming, we chose to stop on for another three weeks.

0:30:50 > 0:30:53We hired a six-berth RV, travelled around the country.

0:30:54 > 0:30:57We did do just a tremendous amount

0:30:57 > 0:31:01and had an absolutely amazing further three weeks

0:31:01 > 0:31:03as a family. It was awesome.

0:31:03 > 0:31:06We went to Cathedral Cove. Absolutely beautiful.

0:31:06 > 0:31:08Went to the hot water lakes.

0:31:08 > 0:31:11Seven o'clock at night, pitch-black under the stars...

0:31:11 > 0:31:14..like, in a Jacuzzi on the beach. Absolutely fantastic.

0:31:16 > 0:31:20On returning to the UK, there was only one thing on Paul's mind -

0:31:20 > 0:31:23how do they get back out there?

0:31:23 > 0:31:24Since we've been back,

0:31:24 > 0:31:27we've had to have a look at selling the businesses.

0:31:29 > 0:31:31I've started with my business first,

0:31:31 > 0:31:33that's the one that's been going for 20 years.

0:31:33 > 0:31:36We had that valued, put it out on the market.

0:31:36 > 0:31:38Got people interested.

0:31:38 > 0:31:43All being well, they potentially have got a buyer for it. So...

0:31:43 > 0:31:46It's, like, within weeks we should...

0:31:46 > 0:31:49If it's going to go through, it will all be within the next few weeks.

0:31:49 > 0:31:54As soon as that's sorted, then we can move on to Tracey's gym.

0:31:54 > 0:31:57- And consider what we're going to do with that one.- Yeah.

0:31:57 > 0:32:01Paul is powerhousing for this move to gain traction

0:32:01 > 0:32:04and he even has a timetable in mind.

0:32:04 > 0:32:08In 12 months, I'd like to think everything's been consolidated

0:32:08 > 0:32:13everything's together, ready, and... we will be ready for the move.

0:32:16 > 0:32:19But there's a problem because although Tracey voted for

0:32:19 > 0:32:22New Zealand, her decision was much more complicated.

0:32:23 > 0:32:27Paul, before we'd even went, he was 100% that he wanted to go.

0:32:29 > 0:32:31And I, obviously, have got my...

0:32:34 > 0:32:35..reservations.

0:32:35 > 0:32:38But seeing the children's reaction to Kiwi life,

0:32:38 > 0:32:42Tracey felt she had to let those reservations go.

0:32:42 > 0:32:46Watching the children and how much they enjoyed it, and listening

0:32:46 > 0:32:51to them, that's what made me vote, finally, to New Zealand.

0:32:51 > 0:32:53I'd like to go back.

0:32:53 > 0:32:59I'd like to go back because it's really sunny, hot,

0:32:59 > 0:33:01and there's all nice people there.

0:33:01 > 0:33:05My favourite bit about New Zealand was, like, going on the beach

0:33:05 > 0:33:08and the sun and everything. And going out places, and that.

0:33:08 > 0:33:12But, on the other hand, there was a little tweak of the butterflies,

0:33:12 > 0:33:17and that little bit of fear, little bit of sadness, of, OK, we are...

0:33:17 > 0:33:19..we're going to do this, and it's exciting but...

0:33:19 > 0:33:24..you know, I am going to have to leave people and things behind that,

0:33:24 > 0:33:26you know, I love and cherish.

0:33:26 > 0:33:29When they returned to the UK, despite Paul's boundless

0:33:29 > 0:33:33energy for the move, Tracey was reticent to the point of silence.

0:33:36 > 0:33:41When we got back, I kind of took the easy option, in a way,

0:33:41 > 0:33:43not to speak about it because I know so many people

0:33:43 > 0:33:47would be really upset, and I would get upset,

0:33:47 > 0:33:49so we kind of took the easy option and told everybody

0:33:49 > 0:33:51they had to watch the programme.

0:33:51 > 0:33:53I think it was probably easier for me

0:33:53 > 0:33:56not to have the conversations with people

0:33:56 > 0:33:59because then it was almost a little bit kind of, like, surreal

0:33:59 > 0:34:02and keeping it all in a bit of a bubble.

0:34:02 > 0:34:04But with Paul having all but sold his business,

0:34:04 > 0:34:08Tracey is under pressure to commit to the move.

0:34:08 > 0:34:10But, for her, it's not that easy.

0:34:10 > 0:34:13So, selling my business...

0:34:14 > 0:34:19..it will...it will be pretty hard, actually. And...

0:34:19 > 0:34:24..it's very much a community, so, you know, everybody always calls it

0:34:24 > 0:34:27the Gym Family, the Workout Family, because everybody's so close.

0:34:27 > 0:34:29It is just like extended family.

0:34:29 > 0:34:33So, for me to sell that, it's...

0:34:33 > 0:34:34..it's my baby.

0:34:34 > 0:34:37But, whilst Tracey appears to be weighed down with her dilemma,

0:34:37 > 0:34:40she's still looking for a change that would enable the family

0:34:40 > 0:34:42to spend more time together.

0:34:42 > 0:34:45And, in her deliberations, she may have found an answer.

0:34:47 > 0:34:51If we do want to pursue the dream life in New Zealand, it is

0:34:51 > 0:34:52about the quality of life.

0:34:53 > 0:34:57And, yeah, making some changes, so I think the reality is probably

0:34:57 > 0:35:01a change of career would enable us to do that a little bit more anyway.

0:35:01 > 0:35:04And if I could maybe secure employment, then my husband

0:35:04 > 0:35:08could follow the...follow the path of setting up a business out there.

0:35:08 > 0:35:10Sounds like a good plan.

0:35:10 > 0:35:14And with Paul eager to find ways to make the move work for everyone,

0:35:14 > 0:35:16there is encouraging news.

0:35:16 > 0:35:17Tracey's...

0:35:18 > 0:35:21..got two possible job opportunities already

0:35:21 > 0:35:23from the friends that we know who live out there.

0:35:25 > 0:35:28One works in a bank, one works in the estate agent's.

0:35:30 > 0:35:32They get in touch with us on...

0:35:32 > 0:35:35..regular occasions, asking when we're coming,

0:35:35 > 0:35:37the jobs are waiting, ready for her.

0:35:37 > 0:35:41So, we know we've got that kind of security.

0:35:43 > 0:35:45But there are still misgivings for Tracey and,

0:35:45 > 0:35:50according to the walls that have ears, the discussions are constant.

0:35:50 > 0:35:54They do talk about it lots. And then, like...

0:35:54 > 0:35:57"Shall we move out there? What do you want to do?"

0:35:57 > 0:36:01And, like, all that stuff.

0:36:01 > 0:36:04I think Tracey's sold. However...

0:36:06 > 0:36:09..she's the worrier out of the two of us. I'm the...

0:36:09 > 0:36:13..let's just go and do it. She thinks a lot more about things.

0:36:15 > 0:36:16Rightly so.

0:36:17 > 0:36:20I'm just a bit blase. Let's go and get on with it,

0:36:20 > 0:36:22and we'll do... Whatever it takes, we'll do it.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25Dad definitely wants to go out and Mum's, like,

0:36:25 > 0:36:27changes her mind all the time and everything.

0:36:27 > 0:36:29But Dad definitely wants to do it.

0:36:29 > 0:36:31That's all he talks about, really.

0:36:36 > 0:36:38Yeah... I think we'll go.

0:36:40 > 0:36:43I think if I don't go, you'll probably hold it against me

0:36:43 > 0:36:45- forever, wouldn't you? - No, I wouldn't.

0:36:45 > 0:36:47I think you would. I think it would be difficult.

0:36:47 > 0:36:50I think if I didn't go, knowing how much you want it,

0:36:50 > 0:36:54and how strong you feel, for me to hold...

0:36:54 > 0:36:57Me be the reason why we don't go...

0:36:57 > 0:37:00Like you say, we don't know what if.

0:37:00 > 0:37:03If we go, it don't work, we come back. It's that simple.

0:37:05 > 0:37:08But it's not that simple for Tracey.

0:37:08 > 0:37:10And with the other stumbling block of all the emotional

0:37:10 > 0:37:14attachments in the UK, she's not alone in her uncertainty.

0:37:17 > 0:37:21I'm not quite sure because I'll miss all my friends and family.

0:37:21 > 0:37:25Like, I'd love to go live out there but it's like the same as her.

0:37:25 > 0:37:27I'd miss all my family and friends.

0:37:27 > 0:37:29But it'd be sick to live out there, though.

0:37:29 > 0:37:32The same as Phina and Roman.

0:37:32 > 0:37:37I have a really close relationship with my parents.

0:37:37 > 0:37:40My parents are divorced and remarried.

0:37:40 > 0:37:43So, really, I have two mums and two dads.

0:37:43 > 0:37:45And...they're amazing.

0:37:45 > 0:37:49They're just always there for us. The children have...

0:37:51 > 0:37:52..a fantastic relationship with them.

0:37:55 > 0:37:58And they just support us so much, so...

0:37:59 > 0:38:01They're just always there.

0:38:07 > 0:38:10This decision is not for the faint of heart.

0:38:10 > 0:38:13The choice is between a life half lived by the crushing

0:38:13 > 0:38:18demands of work, but being close to loved ones, or living abroad,

0:38:18 > 0:38:20where the possibilities appear endless,

0:38:20 > 0:38:22but the family are not there.

0:38:22 > 0:38:25Even Paul is not unaffected by this dilemma.

0:38:26 > 0:38:29The persons toughest to leave, obviously, is going

0:38:29 > 0:38:32to be my parents. My mum and dad.

0:38:34 > 0:38:35They...

0:38:35 > 0:38:37They've accepted that I'm leaving.

0:38:37 > 0:38:40They obviously don't want me to leave

0:38:40 > 0:38:42but they're more accepting that we're going to go.

0:38:42 > 0:38:46They can see the life we can offer the children there. So...

0:38:48 > 0:38:49..they...

0:38:49 > 0:38:52..they're more accommodating, they'll accept that we're going.

0:38:52 > 0:38:56Obviously, don't want us to go but...they're accepting it.

0:38:56 > 0:38:59You know, he's got a huge family, so his mum and dad,

0:38:59 > 0:39:03there's three other sons, they've got 27 grandchildren,

0:39:03 > 0:39:06and great-grandchildren, so they are surrounded by people.

0:39:06 > 0:39:11He knows they'll be OK and they'll be looked after.

0:39:11 > 0:39:14So, I think he's got, although he'll miss them,

0:39:14 > 0:39:18he's got that comfort that I don't have, actually, cos...

0:39:19 > 0:39:23..if we go, then I'm, you know, all they have.

0:39:23 > 0:39:27Which is crushing for Tracey and her parents, making the very

0:39:27 > 0:39:31idea of the family moving to New Zealand almost unbearable.

0:39:31 > 0:39:33- TEARFULLY:- I was OK to begin with

0:39:33 > 0:39:36but it's now with all the filming again,

0:39:36 > 0:39:38it's brought it all back to me.

0:39:38 > 0:39:41- That I don't really want you to go. - I know.- But...

0:39:41 > 0:39:43..I can understand why you do.

0:39:50 > 0:39:52I'm just really close to them...

0:39:57 > 0:39:59All right.

0:40:03 > 0:40:05There is, however, one possible answer,

0:40:05 > 0:40:08and though Tracey didn't know, her parents had been discussing

0:40:08 > 0:40:12the idea of a move to New Zealand themselves.

0:40:12 > 0:40:13We've thought about it a lot.

0:40:13 > 0:40:16We have thought about it, even though

0:40:16 > 0:40:18we haven't mentioned it, we've thought about it a lot.

0:40:18 > 0:40:22- We haven't said. It ain't 100%, though, is it?- No.

0:40:24 > 0:40:26And where there's a will, there's a way.

0:40:28 > 0:40:30It's only a flight away.

0:40:31 > 0:40:33Sorry.

0:40:36 > 0:40:39- We're not there yet.- I know.

0:40:40 > 0:40:43And Tracey's family are not the only ones who've been

0:40:43 > 0:40:48talking behind the scenes. Her best friend has plans of her own.

0:40:48 > 0:40:52I think it's an amazing opportunity. You'd be mad not to do it.

0:40:53 > 0:40:56And have you thought about any more whether, if we went,

0:40:56 > 0:41:00- you might consider?- Yeah. - You and Gaz spoke?

0:41:00 > 0:41:03- We really, really do want to do it. - Really?

0:41:03 > 0:41:07Gary's family are really encouraging us to go.

0:41:09 > 0:41:11I can honestly picture us there with you.

0:41:11 > 0:41:14I'm not doing it for me, I'll do it for the kids.

0:41:14 > 0:41:17Oh, my gosh, that would be amazing. Oh, my God.

0:41:17 > 0:41:21She's never been to New Zealand, and, yet, we came back and they...

0:41:21 > 0:41:25- ..they want to go. I think if we go, they'll follow us out there.- Yeah.

0:41:25 > 0:41:31- I think they will, I think that's kind of a...- Done deal.- Yeah.

0:41:31 > 0:41:34So, with this reassurance from friends and family,

0:41:34 > 0:41:36is the dream back on track?

0:41:36 > 0:41:40It's kind of some days, I'm like, "Oh, gosh, I can't wait.

0:41:40 > 0:41:42"I can't wait to get out there! We've got to do it,

0:41:42 > 0:41:45"we've got to go!" And I think I know in my heart

0:41:45 > 0:41:46the type of person I am...

0:41:48 > 0:41:52If we didn't do it, I'd probably regret it for ever.

0:41:52 > 0:41:57It's something we've got to go and try and do, otherwise...

0:41:57 > 0:42:01..if we stay, I think we'll probably always regret not going

0:42:01 > 0:42:03and giving it a try.

0:42:03 > 0:42:07The best thing about living in New Zealand is that there's

0:42:07 > 0:42:09a lot of friendly people,

0:42:09 > 0:42:14it's hot and sunny, and we can just go out when we want to.

0:42:14 > 0:42:17And the walk down the beach.

0:42:17 > 0:42:20We will be living in New Zealand at some stage.

0:42:20 > 0:42:23I can see it happening.

0:42:23 > 0:42:26The way I look at this, we've got to go and do it.

0:42:26 > 0:42:29I don't want to be 10 years from now, going, "What if?"

0:42:29 > 0:42:31I don't want to be a what-iffer.

0:42:31 > 0:42:35You only have to go, like, a couple of hours, to get to, like,

0:42:35 > 0:42:37Paradise Island for holidays,

0:42:37 > 0:42:40and you've got all the nice people and everything.

0:42:40 > 0:42:43And it's, like, really chilled, and that, so... It would be fun.

0:42:43 > 0:42:47So, this time next year, I think...

0:42:47 > 0:42:48..we'll be there.

0:42:50 > 0:42:51Quite possibly, yeah.

0:42:55 > 0:42:59The massive dilemma of whether to leave the UK or not

0:42:59 > 0:43:02appeared almost insurmountable.

0:43:02 > 0:43:05But the desire to live a life where the family can thrive

0:43:05 > 0:43:07together proved stronger.

0:43:07 > 0:43:10And with the reassuring help from family and friends,

0:43:10 > 0:43:13the future looks bright for the Nicholls.

0:43:13 > 0:43:16We wish them all the very best.
