0:00:03 > 0:00:06If you were expecting your first child, could you leave behind

0:00:06 > 0:00:08the support of your closest friends and family

0:00:08 > 0:00:12to move to the other side of the world,

0:00:12 > 0:00:15because you wanted your baby to get a fresh start down under?

0:00:15 > 0:00:21This was the heart-wrenching decision faced by Keira and Andy Roberts in 2009,

0:00:21 > 0:00:25when we gave them the chance to experience the Australian lifestyle

0:00:25 > 0:00:30ahead of making this enormous, life-altering choice.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Keira and Andy Roberts from Wigan were considering swapping

0:00:33 > 0:00:36their daily grind in the UK for a new life down under.

0:00:36 > 0:00:41Living somewhere abroad has been something I've thought about since school-leaving age.

0:00:41 > 0:00:47But newly pregnant Keira had taken some persuading and was still not 100% convinced.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50He's the one that came up with the idea in the first place.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53I was absolutely heartbroken.

0:00:53 > 0:00:58For Keira, the pain of leaving loved ones behind in the UK was hard to bear.

0:00:58 > 0:01:02It's a really, really hard decision to make and I don't suppose

0:01:02 > 0:01:06until I flip the cards, I'll know which way I'm going to go.

0:01:06 > 0:01:11But the big question is, where are they now? UK or Australia?

0:01:31 > 0:01:36The Roberts from Wigan were confronted with a huge dilemma.

0:01:36 > 0:01:41They wanted a better life in Australia, for the baby Keira was expecting.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45But that would mean leaving family in the UK.

0:01:45 > 0:01:51We gave Keira and Andy a week to experience every aspect of life Down Under,

0:01:51 > 0:01:55to see if they really could make this massive move.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57But what's happened since then?

0:01:57 > 0:02:01In 2009, Andy and Keira Roberts from Wigan were about to leave

0:02:01 > 0:02:06their family and friends, to see what life would really be like if they moved to Australia.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08I've had an opportunity to go before.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11It ended up we couldn't take that opportunity because

0:02:11 > 0:02:15we were getting married over that year and the company couldn't take Keira with me.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18After thinking about it for quite a long time, I thought,

0:02:18 > 0:02:23"No, I wouldn't want to hold him back from doing what he wanted to do", so, at least give it a go.

0:02:23 > 0:02:28Keira was currently studying for her accountancy qualifications.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31Andy was a quantity surveyor, overseeing construction projects.

0:02:31 > 0:02:36He earned £40,000 a year but was fed up with his long commute to work.

0:02:36 > 0:02:42It takes sometimes an hour to an hour and a half to get 14 miles up the road.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46When you've done a day's work and all your travelling, it's a 12-hour day.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50Andy and Keira's lives were about to change with the arrival of their first child.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54It's happened and we're both really happy about it.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58She just said to me, "I can't drink for the next few months."

0:02:58 > 0:03:02- What do you mean?- The baby probably would have an Australian accent.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06Maybe with a bit of a Wigan/Scouse twang.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09For the Roberts, home is where the heart is.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11My sister lives seven doors down.

0:03:11 > 0:03:16My mum lives round the corner. Down the road from there are my auntie and uncle.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18There's absolutely tons of people we know.

0:03:18 > 0:03:23We all congregate to the local pub and everybody knows everybody. We all look out for each other.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27Some people might think it's a bit too close for comfort,

0:03:27 > 0:03:29but I've grown up here and that's what I know.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33Everybody's really friendly and it's a community feeling.

0:03:33 > 0:03:39We've never really had to go out and make new friends. I don't even know where we'd start.

0:03:39 > 0:03:40I wouldn't have a clue.

0:03:42 > 0:03:46There was one person who made the decision even tougher for Keira,

0:03:46 > 0:03:48her niece.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50I'm really close to Emily

0:03:50 > 0:03:53and I know she's not very old,

0:03:53 > 0:03:55but she knows who I am and...

0:03:56 > 0:03:59She reacts to you. She's just really funny.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02She makes me laugh a lot.

0:04:02 > 0:04:06It's a really hard thing to think about, leaving her.

0:04:06 > 0:04:10But there were many others they would miss deeply.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12Obviously, it'd be nice to have a support network

0:04:12 > 0:04:17even if you're just having a bad day, if you've got grandparents and aunties and uncles around,

0:04:17 > 0:04:24you can always palm the baby off, for want of a better word, for a couple of hours and she can relax.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Over there if I'm going to be working she's going to be on her own.

0:04:27 > 0:04:32- That is a bit of a worry. - I think not having my mum on hand

0:04:32 > 0:04:35will be a massive shock to the system.

0:04:35 > 0:04:41The baby growing up, first crawl, first teeth, first walk, first word.

0:04:41 > 0:04:45A lot of things like that, that will be really hard.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47There's a lot to leave.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52Um...

0:04:52 > 0:04:54There's a lot to give up.

0:04:59 > 0:05:04To help them consider the huge impact this mover could have on their lives,

0:05:04 > 0:05:08we sent them to Darwin, Australia's northernmost city,

0:05:08 > 0:05:14to see what to see what life on the other side of the world was really like.

0:05:14 > 0:05:18Keira and Andy were in search of a better life for their future family.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21Darwin might be the perfect place for them to build their future,

0:05:22 > 0:05:25but if Keira wasn't able to break her ties with home,

0:05:25 > 0:05:27their dreams may come to nothing.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31They only had a week to make this life-changing decision.

0:05:31 > 0:05:34The 9,000 mile journey to the other side of the world

0:05:34 > 0:05:38gave them plenty of time to consider the enormity of this choice.

0:05:38 > 0:05:43- Long. I just didn't sleep a wink. - I thought a couple of hours, at least, I'd get,

0:05:43 > 0:05:45but I didn't get anything at all,

0:05:45 > 0:05:47hence the big bags under the eyes.

0:05:50 > 0:05:53Keira and Andy were staying in a two-bedroom apartment

0:05:53 > 0:05:57in the affluent suburb of Nightcliff, only a stone's throw from the beach.

0:05:57 > 0:06:04First impressions counted, if Keira was going to be persuaded that a move was right for them.

0:06:04 > 0:06:07- Oh!- It's quite flash, isn't it?

0:06:07 > 0:06:10It's quite big. It looked quite small from outside.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13- It's open-plan like you wanted anyway.- Yeah.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15It's a bit of a TARDIS, really.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20I like it a lot. It's pleasantly surprising.

0:06:20 > 0:06:22I'm on tenterhooks now to get going.

0:06:22 > 0:06:24I'm nervous about liking it too much.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26We've already been warned actually.

0:06:26 > 0:06:30The last phone call before we came over was Keira's mum saying,

0:06:30 > 0:06:34"Make sure you come back and remember where you live" and all that kind of thing so...

0:06:34 > 0:06:39- And my dad.- Have to make sure you don't like it too much.- Mmm.

0:06:42 > 0:06:46Back in the UK, Keira and Andy lived in a three-bedroom house

0:06:46 > 0:06:50on the outskirts of Wigan. They had done a huge amount of work to it

0:06:50 > 0:06:53so any property in Darwin had a lot to live up to.

0:06:53 > 0:06:59They bought their house in 2007, for £155,000.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01It hadn't been valued since,

0:07:01 > 0:07:04so they were unsure of their budget for an Australian home.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07We showed them three different properties

0:07:07 > 0:07:11to give them an idea of what they might afford, if they sold their house for the right price

0:07:11 > 0:07:14and if Andy secured a well-paid job.

0:07:14 > 0:07:16The first was in the suburb of Durack.

0:07:16 > 0:07:20This four-bedroomed two-bathroom property

0:07:20 > 0:07:23was on the market in 2009 for £260,000.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25I like the way it's all open-plan.

0:07:25 > 0:07:30It makes the places look more spacious and it's huge through here.

0:07:31 > 0:07:34- Kids' room.- Whoa. This is a kids' room, isn't it?

0:07:34 > 0:07:35It's bigger than I thought it was.

0:07:35 > 0:07:38Let's hope the baby's a girl, eh?

0:07:38 > 0:07:40It's a bit pink, isn't it?

0:07:41 > 0:07:44Bathroom with a big fan again.

0:07:44 > 0:07:48- Nothing too surprising in here except for the fact it's straight off the living-room.- Oh, yeah!

0:07:48 > 0:07:51Which is...weird, isn't it?

0:07:51 > 0:07:54Main bedroom.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57- Red doors. - I'm assuming these are wardrobes.

0:07:57 > 0:07:59Don't open them too much.

0:07:59 > 0:08:01Whoa!

0:08:01 > 0:08:02I assumed wrong.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05An en suite and a walk-in wardrobe.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08Where are you going to put all your clothes?

0:08:10 > 0:08:14- I spy a pool out the back.- Let's go and have a look at that, then.

0:08:14 > 0:08:18This is a nice space, isn't it? It's just the right size.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21I can definitely see some kids running around here and playing

0:08:21 > 0:08:25in the pool while we sit and have a few beers over there on the terrace.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28I'm not too sure whether I get that homely feeling from it

0:08:28 > 0:08:31and I'm not sure whether it's somewhere I could live.

0:08:31 > 0:08:35It just hasn't quite grabbed us, but it's pretty good, I think.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38- Yeah, I do like the area.- Yeah.

0:08:38 > 0:08:44The house may have offered enough space for them and their new family, but they both had their doubts.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46It was vital that they found the perfect house

0:08:46 > 0:08:50if Keira was going to be persuaded to move down under.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53Property two was in the northern suburb of Nakara,

0:08:53 > 0:08:56just 15 minutes' drive from Darwin's centre.

0:08:56 > 0:09:03This four-bedroom, two-bathroom house cost £293,000 in 2009.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05It was a lot more expensive than the first property

0:09:05 > 0:09:10and it would be a stretch for the Roberts with just Andy working.

0:09:11 > 0:09:16- It's quite a nice size. I like the way it goes out on to the front. That garden's lovely.- Oh, yeah.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19And a pool.

0:09:19 > 0:09:24And fresh coconuts daily. I'm not too sure about it being right by the main road.

0:09:24 > 0:09:25- It is close, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:09:25 > 0:09:31- They seem to have this plastic cladding in all the rooms, don't they?- On the walls.

0:09:31 > 0:09:36- Just a bit strange.- It is odd.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38This is lovely, isn't it?

0:09:38 > 0:09:43It's a gent's walk-in wardrobe as well, so it's not full of bags and shoes.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46- But it would be. - I like how it opens up out here.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49This is nice. An outdoor kitchen.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51This is excellent, isn't it?

0:09:51 > 0:09:53- Fantastic!- It's a really nice space.

0:09:53 > 0:09:54Brilliant, this.

0:09:54 > 0:09:58The design of it is certainly better than the last place.

0:09:58 > 0:10:00You're concerned about the pool being on...

0:10:00 > 0:10:03I've still got a hang-up about the pool being at the front of a house

0:10:03 > 0:10:05rather than the back by the main road.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08I quite like the place. I'm quite taken with it.

0:10:08 > 0:10:11I'm not sure about the plastic walls. We'll have to figure that out.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13That's a point. Other than that, I like the place.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15I think it's really good.

0:10:15 > 0:10:19Property two seemed to tick more of their boxes.

0:10:19 > 0:10:23But the busy roads on their doorstep may have put them off.

0:10:23 > 0:10:27Back in Durack, property three was something a bit special.

0:10:27 > 0:10:32This brand new four-bedroom house has some surprising and unique features.

0:10:32 > 0:10:37Though at £335,000, this may be over their budget.

0:10:37 > 0:10:42But if Keira needed persuading, perhaps the thought of a real dream home would do the trick.

0:10:42 > 0:10:47- This is nice, isn't it?- Yeah!

0:10:47 > 0:10:49This is flash. It's like a hotel foyer.

0:10:49 > 0:10:51And the water feature.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53It's amazing.

0:10:55 > 0:11:00Blimey! I'm a bit speechless. It's as flash as anything, isn't it?

0:11:00 > 0:11:02Is this the bedroom?

0:11:02 > 0:11:04Obviously spared no expense in here!

0:11:04 > 0:11:06I like the front windows.

0:11:06 > 0:11:10I like it but I'm not too sure about having a sink

0:11:10 > 0:11:14- in the middle of the bedroom. - No, that is a bit too much like a hotel bedroom, isn't it?

0:11:14 > 0:11:17I wouldn't want that there, but that's just being ridiculously picky!

0:11:17 > 0:11:20I think it's brilliant,

0:11:20 > 0:11:22but I think it's a bit too brilliant for my liking.

0:11:22 > 0:11:27I think it's the kind of thing you get people round to show off. It's not a home, is it?

0:11:27 > 0:11:30- As it is, the actual... - I'm unbelievably impressed about it but...

0:11:30 > 0:11:34- The actual space itself and the house itself is set out really nicely.- Brilliant, isn't it?

0:11:34 > 0:11:40The outside seemed just as impressive as the inside, but Andy had noticed a serious flaw.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43We've found a chink in the armour.

0:11:43 > 0:11:47- The road is straight behind, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51It sounds quite busy, doesn't it?

0:11:51 > 0:11:54It's my ideal of a home.

0:11:54 > 0:11:56Well, an Australian home anyway.

0:11:56 > 0:12:02It's making me more keen to come to Australia now because of the way that you live here.

0:12:02 > 0:12:06You can be in the kitchen seeing your kids play outside in the garden.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08It's a really, really good lifestyle.

0:12:08 > 0:12:12In terms of what they offer, better than the UK.

0:12:12 > 0:12:16Even the first one I would say was probably better and had more about it

0:12:16 > 0:12:18than some of the houses we could get at home.

0:12:18 > 0:12:24The house was certainly impressive, with its stylish features and state-of-the-art design.

0:12:24 > 0:12:28But it needed to be the ultimate house at the right price for them to consider making the move.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30Which way did they vote?

0:12:31 > 0:12:34Based on the property that we've seen so far in Darwin

0:12:34 > 0:12:35our vote goes to...

0:12:37 > 0:12:39..Australia.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41Well, Keira liked the Australian houses,

0:12:41 > 0:12:45but these properties were out of reach if Andy didn't secure the right job.

0:12:45 > 0:12:48Their big decision was in his hands.

0:12:52 > 0:12:59In 2009, a UK quantity surveyor earned between £35,000 and £55,000 a year.

0:12:59 > 0:13:03But it was the commute that Andy was very keen to change.

0:13:03 > 0:13:09He was desperate to spend less time travelling, and more time with his family.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16In Darwin, Andy was up early to experience work down under.

0:13:16 > 0:13:20And he was very aware of how important this day was.

0:13:21 > 0:13:26Getting a job is the most important thing about the trip, really.

0:13:26 > 0:13:29It's nice seeing the houses and the lifestyle you can get,

0:13:29 > 0:13:33but unless I can pay for that lifestyle then it's pretty redundant really.

0:13:33 > 0:13:37The main thing is that it pays enough for us to be able to come over here.

0:13:37 > 0:13:42The job was vital, but Andy couldn't stop worrying about Keira.

0:13:42 > 0:13:46Ultimately I would still like to come out here.

0:13:46 > 0:13:51I'm going to obviously stand by my wife and if it turns out it's not what she wants to do,

0:13:51 > 0:13:55and it's too much of a wrench for her, then I suppose I'd have to stand by that.

0:13:55 > 0:14:02So Andy's dreams of a new life down under could be dashed if Keira didn't take to Australia -

0:14:02 > 0:14:06and with a baby on the way, she had a lot on her mind.

0:14:06 > 0:14:11She went to Darwin Hospital to check out what birthing facilities were like down under.

0:14:11 > 0:14:14So how are you feeling, Keira, with the pregnancy?

0:14:14 > 0:14:19Quite good. I'm over the sickness now, so that's a good thing.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22We have two birth rooms and they're exactly the same.

0:14:22 > 0:14:25We call them bedroom one and bedroom two.

0:14:25 > 0:14:27Just to be a little bit more homely.

0:14:27 > 0:14:29- This is nice.- Yes.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32This is completely different back at home.

0:14:32 > 0:14:35We have a double... Well, I think it's a queen-size bed.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38We have a bath straight ahead here.

0:14:38 > 0:14:42- I've noticed there's a garden outside as well. - I know, it's lovely, isn't it?

0:14:42 > 0:14:46We have a table and chairs out there. The only thing we don't have is a barbecue,

0:14:46 > 0:14:50but you're certainly welcome to come out here

0:14:50 > 0:14:55- in your labour, day or night. - This is really nice.

0:14:55 > 0:15:01With Keira at home full time with the new baby, Andy would be the sole wage earner.

0:15:01 > 0:15:07For any dreams of life down under to become a reality, it was essential his hunt for work went well.

0:15:07 > 0:15:10- Andy.- Nice to meet you, is it Don? - Yes it is.- Nice to meet you.

0:15:10 > 0:15:14- You need to put this on and you've got closed-in shoes.- Yeah.

0:15:14 > 0:15:16We're going to take the lift upstairs.

0:15:24 > 0:15:28Andy, this is, as you can see, in the final stages of completion.

0:15:28 > 0:15:34Is this a typical project for the company, then, or would you tend to do anything on infrastructure?

0:15:34 > 0:15:36This is fairly typical for us,

0:15:36 > 0:15:41but there are a number of projects coming up that your experience would probably be good for us to have.

0:15:41 > 0:15:46Andy was getting on well. And there was even a hint of a job for him in the near future.

0:15:46 > 0:15:50Back at the hospital, Keira was having a check-up.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54And it seemed everything she had experienced so far in Australia

0:15:54 > 0:15:58was starting to persuade her this might be a good place to bring up her baby.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00BABY'S HEART BEATS

0:16:00 > 0:16:02There's baby.

0:16:02 > 0:16:06Everything seems to be going well in your pregnancy.

0:16:06 > 0:16:12Being out here and experiencing what Australia has to offer has started to change me slightly.

0:16:12 > 0:16:16I really love the place and obviously the weather makes a big difference.

0:16:16 > 0:16:17It's absolutely beautiful out here.

0:16:17 > 0:16:21Still a bit nervous about being so far away from home.

0:16:21 > 0:16:24Obviously something that's life-changing.

0:16:24 > 0:16:28It would be difficult and make me feel sad that I'm not just around the corner

0:16:28 > 0:16:29from my friends and family.

0:16:29 > 0:16:33It's not the same them being on the end of the telephone or the internet.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35It's completely different.

0:16:35 > 0:16:39But it's definitely something I'm considering a bit more.

0:16:39 > 0:16:45I think this experience is just making me move more towards coming out here in the long term.

0:16:45 > 0:16:51Andy would be delighted to hear that Keira was warming to the idea of a move to Australia.

0:16:51 > 0:16:55But he had some important questions.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58What are your general working hours at the company?

0:16:58 > 0:17:03We have core hours from 8.30 and till 5 o'clock.

0:17:03 > 0:17:05We need to be able to get work done and meet deadlines

0:17:05 > 0:17:09so sometimes that may require additional hours of work.

0:17:09 > 0:17:13What's the general salary I'd be expecting as a cost manager?

0:17:13 > 0:17:18We would expect to be able to negotiate somewhere between 90 and 100.

0:17:18 > 0:17:19With similar working hours

0:17:19 > 0:17:24but better pay than his job in the UK, how would Andy vote?

0:17:24 > 0:17:27The wages themselves are actually a little bit better

0:17:27 > 0:17:32so you could be up to £50,000 which is more than I'm on just now. A significant amount more, actually.

0:17:32 > 0:17:36Based on the work I've seen today... My vote goes to...

0:17:36 > 0:17:38Australia.

0:17:44 > 0:17:49In the UK, the Roberts owned a three-bedroom house on the outskirts of Wigan

0:17:49 > 0:17:55which they bought in 2007 for £156,000.

0:17:55 > 0:18:01In 2009, we sent two estate agents around to value their home.

0:18:01 > 0:18:05If Andy and Keira were to make the massive move to Australia,

0:18:05 > 0:18:08everything hinged on this valuation.

0:18:10 > 0:18:12It's not a typical semi-detached house for this area.

0:18:12 > 0:18:15They are mostly more like your dormered semi three bedrooms.

0:18:15 > 0:18:19It's larger than that because, thanks to an extension at the rear.

0:18:19 > 0:18:22For a quick sale I'd have to recommend it on the market

0:18:22 > 0:18:26- at just under the 150, 149. - It's not great, is it?- No.

0:18:26 > 0:18:29That was over £5,000 less than they originally paid for it.

0:18:29 > 0:18:36There was so much riding on the value of their home, a second opinion was crucial.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39If you needed a quick sale you'd probably think

0:18:39 > 0:18:41that you'd be looking around the 149,950.

0:18:41 > 0:18:44Same as last time, isn't it?

0:18:44 > 0:18:46I think 150 is a little bit lower than I hoped.

0:18:46 > 0:18:51I was hoping we'd maybe be looking at the amount we paid for it a couple of years ago, which was 155.

0:18:51 > 0:18:57I'm a bit disappointed at the price that they've come up with.

0:18:57 > 0:19:00But I suppose it's to be expected, really.

0:19:00 > 0:19:05The valuations hit Keira and Andy hard. This was not what they were expecting.

0:19:05 > 0:19:10The move to Australia was in jeopardy, if they couldn't sell their house.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14We provided the Roberts with some detailed information

0:19:14 > 0:19:18on the day-to-day costs of living in Australia.

0:19:19 > 0:19:23That is expensive for the air conditioning and that kind of thing.

0:19:23 > 0:19:26- Obviously, you don't need air conditioning in the UK. - That's expensive.

0:19:26 > 0:19:29Private health care, if that's a month, that's really high.

0:19:29 > 0:19:33Is it? Have to put it together and see what spits out at the end.

0:19:33 > 0:19:36There doesn't seem to be anything too shocking.

0:19:36 > 0:19:40They needed to take into account the cost of living in Australia.

0:19:40 > 0:19:45What Andy could earn and what they could get for their UK home.

0:19:47 > 0:19:51When they crunch the numbers, the reality of living in Australia hit home.

0:19:51 > 0:19:58I just expected, and I'm sure many other people expect, Australia to be cheaper.

0:19:58 > 0:20:00It doesn't work out like that.

0:20:00 > 0:20:04It was a lot more expensive than they thought, but how did they vote?

0:20:04 > 0:20:09Did they think they could afford a life down under or was home the better option?

0:20:09 > 0:20:14Having looked at the cost of living in Australia our vote is...

0:20:14 > 0:20:16BOTH: Australia.

0:20:16 > 0:20:17Just.

0:20:20 > 0:20:24Andy and Keira were determined to experience some of what

0:20:24 > 0:20:27Australia had to offer, so they went to a nearby nature reserve.

0:20:27 > 0:20:31If the lifestyle was not what they had imagined,

0:20:31 > 0:20:34a move down under for a better life was pointless.

0:20:34 > 0:20:38While Andy took a dip, Keira reflected on her changing feelings.

0:20:38 > 0:20:43My biggest fear and concern was that I was going to like it and I do really like it here.

0:20:43 > 0:20:48I didn't really want that to happen because I thought if we came over, I wouldn't like it

0:20:48 > 0:20:50and it'd be a straightforward answer.

0:20:50 > 0:20:54It wasn't for us and I could say no, that would be it.

0:20:54 > 0:20:58Things have changed slightly now and we'll have to work through that when we get back home.

0:20:58 > 0:21:03But I do see me and Andy moving to Australia in the near future.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05Keira was sounding positive,

0:21:05 > 0:21:09but this was an enormous decision, not to be taken lightly.

0:21:09 > 0:21:12The Roberts were keen to experience Darwin from every angle,

0:21:12 > 0:21:16so they took a boat trip to see the city from the sea.

0:21:16 > 0:21:17Keira was distracted, though.

0:21:17 > 0:21:23Her worries had changed to how she was going to break the news of a possible move to her family.

0:21:23 > 0:21:29I think it's going to be a big thing I'll have to think about when we get back.

0:21:29 > 0:21:32I've got no idea how I'm going to tell them.

0:21:32 > 0:21:37I'll just have to be completely honest and come straight out with it.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40They'll probably think we've been looking at it in a view that it's a holiday.

0:21:40 > 0:21:45That's not why we came out here. So I think we've given it a good chance.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48I'll just have to broach it when we come to it, I suppose.

0:21:48 > 0:21:50The priority is the baby, really.

0:21:50 > 0:21:55The life for the baby will definitely be better here than it is back at home.

0:21:55 > 0:22:01Keira was looking like an Aussie convert, but Andy was starting to have serious doubts.

0:22:01 > 0:22:05I'd miss my friends... It might sound strange, but I'd miss the pub culture.

0:22:05 > 0:22:09Although all this is outdoors, which is brilliant, I am used to meeting my friends in the pub

0:22:09 > 0:22:14and that's something that doesn't seem to happen, or at least not on the same scale.

0:22:14 > 0:22:19It had been a full, emotional day - and they'd had a good glimpse of the Australian lifestyle.

0:22:19 > 0:22:24But...was it worth moving halfway around the world for?

0:22:24 > 0:22:29Based on the lifestyle we've seen in Australia, our vote goes to...

0:22:30 > 0:22:32BOTH: ..Australia.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41Keira and Andy had huge concerns about bringing up a new baby so far from home.

0:22:41 > 0:22:45So they sought reassurance from some local new parents.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48- Hi, I'm Keira. - Hi - Richard. How are you?

0:22:48 > 0:22:51Is this something you generally do of a weekend?

0:22:51 > 0:22:54Most weekends it's here or it's at the markets.

0:22:54 > 0:22:59There's picnics coming up... It's very family orientated, it's a wonderful place to bring kids up.

0:22:59 > 0:23:05I think that's one of my main concerns, is coming over and not meeting anybody.

0:23:05 > 0:23:08Everyone's in the same boat. I've got no family up here.

0:23:08 > 0:23:12Your friends become your family. They become your network.

0:23:12 > 0:23:13They help you with babysitting,

0:23:13 > 0:23:18with entertaining yourselves and your children and stuff, so that's how it works.

0:23:18 > 0:23:20They were really nice people, actually, weren't they?

0:23:20 > 0:23:22We were speaking to the family we met -

0:23:22 > 0:23:28they initially started off in New South Wales, and they've lived in a lot of places around the world

0:23:28 > 0:23:31and they've chose Darwin as a place to bring up their family

0:23:31 > 0:23:36because of the area that it is and the lifestyle that they have. I can see why

0:23:36 > 0:23:37they've chose to live here.

0:23:38 > 0:23:40Spending time around all those young children

0:23:40 > 0:23:45reminded Keira how much she was missing her niece back home.

0:23:45 > 0:23:49Of course I'm thinking about Emily... I'll start crying!

0:23:51 > 0:23:52You all right?

0:23:52 > 0:23:55It's really hard. And when...

0:23:59 > 0:24:01..when you mention things like

0:24:01 > 0:24:04how I'm feeling about Emily

0:24:04 > 0:24:09and what it would be like leaving my sisters, and the baby...

0:24:11 > 0:24:13..again it hits home.

0:24:13 > 0:24:18Because when I'm here, what I'm thinking about is how much THEY'D like it,

0:24:18 > 0:24:24and how much Emily would love doing the things that these children are doing as well.

0:24:24 > 0:24:26- And she won't be here, will she?- No.

0:24:26 > 0:24:31But that for me... It might sound a bit callous, but that for me is

0:24:31 > 0:24:35the reason why we're coming - because we're coming for OUR child.

0:24:35 > 0:24:37We'd love it if Emily was here as well,

0:24:37 > 0:24:44but we've seen the benefit of it, and we've got to look after our own child, at the end of the day.

0:24:44 > 0:24:48It's still a big if, but if this is the best thing for our child,

0:24:48 > 0:24:50- then that's what we'd have to do, I think.- Yeah.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53The reality of a move was starting to hit home.

0:24:53 > 0:24:58Based on what we've seen so far and the social life in Australia, our vote goes to...

0:24:59 > 0:25:01..UK.

0:25:01 > 0:25:02I don't know!

0:25:03 > 0:25:05I don't know.

0:25:07 > 0:25:09Cracks were starting to show.

0:25:09 > 0:25:15So far, Andy had been extremely positive about Australia. But things were beginning to change.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18I think what we've seen today is encouraging.

0:25:18 > 0:25:24But I look at it as the friends we would be making here, off the bat, would be kind of thrown together

0:25:24 > 0:25:28because we're families and that's what we've got in common.

0:25:28 > 0:25:32It's not what we've got in common in terms of personalities and as proper friends.

0:25:32 > 0:25:34I voted for the UK on that basis -

0:25:34 > 0:25:37because I've got close friends and I'd like to have a laugh with them.

0:25:41 > 0:25:46In 2009, thoughts of leaving family and friends in the UK

0:25:46 > 0:25:50were playing heavily on both Andy and Keira's minds.

0:25:50 > 0:25:53So, to remind them just what they would be leaving behind,

0:25:53 > 0:25:57we showed them some messages from their loved ones back home.

0:26:01 > 0:26:02'Hi, you two. I hope you've settled in.

0:26:02 > 0:26:04'Hi, you two...'

0:26:04 > 0:26:08Hope you're having a great time. We're missing you like crazy.

0:26:08 > 0:26:10- Andy's a nice guy... - You're a nice guy.

0:26:10 > 0:26:12He's very clever. He knows what he wants in life.

0:26:12 > 0:26:16At first, I don't think she liked Andy very much.

0:26:16 > 0:26:18He was a little bit cocky...

0:26:18 > 0:26:21'I love her very much. She's a very loving daughter.'

0:26:21 > 0:26:23She's a lovely girl.

0:26:23 > 0:26:26Yeah, she is. And she loves Andy very much.

0:26:26 > 0:26:28'She's a superb daughter-in-law.'

0:26:28 > 0:26:31She really is. She's like my third daughter.

0:26:31 > 0:26:33Keira's my older sister.

0:26:33 > 0:26:34There's, erm...

0:26:34 > 0:26:37I think there's 18 months between us, so we're very close.

0:26:37 > 0:26:40I don't want her to go - but I know THEY want to go.

0:26:40 > 0:26:45I think the most important thing is that Keira's now pregnant and she's about to have a baby,

0:26:45 > 0:26:49and it would be very difficult to see our grandchild if they were in Australia.

0:26:49 > 0:26:57Them not being here with a grandchild of ours is not something we would really look forward to.

0:26:57 > 0:27:01I think it's going to be ten times worse now that she's pregnant.

0:27:01 > 0:27:04When I was pregnant, she supported me a lot through the pregnancy -

0:27:04 > 0:27:09but we're going to find it really difficult knowing that she's so far away

0:27:09 > 0:27:13with a little baby that we want to cuddle, and can't.

0:27:13 > 0:27:18'I just think it's a time... The first year of a child's life,'

0:27:18 > 0:27:20I think it's a time when you need family support.

0:27:20 > 0:27:24'Enjoy it. Find out everything you can about it.'

0:27:24 > 0:27:28Whatever they decide is fine by me.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31Selfishly, I hope you don't go - I'll miss you -

0:27:31 > 0:27:34'but I really think you SHOULD go because it's a great opportunity.'

0:27:34 > 0:27:37Hi, K. Hi, Andy. Obviously, you knew what was going to happen.

0:27:37 > 0:27:40We hope you have a fab time in Australia,

0:27:40 > 0:27:42but not too much because we want you like crazy.

0:27:43 > 0:27:46I do hope you'll make the right choice...

0:27:46 > 0:27:48WE don't want you to go.

0:27:48 > 0:27:50We would rather you stayed here.

0:27:52 > 0:27:55We hope that you choose to come home to your family,

0:27:55 > 0:28:01and bring up our grandchild at home here in sometimes sunny England.

0:28:06 > 0:28:08Are you all right, though?

0:28:08 > 0:28:11Yeah. I expected it, I...

0:28:11 > 0:28:13It's just hard seeing it.

0:28:13 > 0:28:15Yeah.

0:28:15 > 0:28:19It's nice to see that there's a lot of support anyway.

0:28:19 > 0:28:20Yeah.

0:28:21 > 0:28:23- Quite honest, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:28:23 > 0:28:26Your mum and dad were good because they were honest, weren't they?

0:28:26 > 0:28:31I just think... Even when I saw Katie and Emily then, I started crying.

0:28:31 > 0:28:33They didn't have to say anything.

0:28:33 > 0:28:37You're starting to miss them now, aren't you?

0:28:37 > 0:28:38Yeah.

0:28:44 > 0:28:47- Well, this is the acid test, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:28:47 > 0:28:50- Harsh!- Yeah, but, er...

0:28:51 > 0:28:56..one thing is, it'll be worse than this when you're waiting to get on the plane.

0:28:57 > 0:28:59So, you have to take that into account as well.

0:28:59 > 0:29:04- Yeah.- You might calm yourself down in five minutes, but, er...

0:29:04 > 0:29:09it'll be that a hundredfold if we make the decision, so...

0:29:09 > 0:29:12you have to be sure you're all right with that.

0:29:21 > 0:29:25Well, it was the end of a long and emotional week in Darwin for the Roberts.

0:29:25 > 0:29:28I do see me and Andy moving to Australia in the near future.

0:29:28 > 0:29:35Andy and Keira loved the experience and the lifestyle which Australia offered their expanding family.

0:29:35 > 0:29:37The priority is the baby, really.

0:29:37 > 0:29:40However, the messages from their family

0:29:40 > 0:29:43came as a stark reminder of what they'd be leaving behind -

0:29:43 > 0:29:48and the difficulty they'd face raising their first child WITHOUT the support of their family.

0:29:49 > 0:29:52- It's just hard seeing it.- Yeah.

0:29:52 > 0:29:55It had always been Andy's dream to move to Australia -

0:29:55 > 0:30:00but he was worried that it might prove too much for Keira.

0:30:00 > 0:30:04Before we started this little adventure, it was always going to be the family that was going to

0:30:04 > 0:30:08be the problem, and I think that's still the case now.

0:30:08 > 0:30:11The main thing for me is how much Keira may have been swept

0:30:11 > 0:30:15away by things, and how much this may have set her back.

0:30:15 > 0:30:18Seeing friends

0:30:18 > 0:30:21that I've grown up with, and...

0:30:21 > 0:30:24family,

0:30:24 > 0:30:26it just changes things.

0:30:28 > 0:30:30Because the way I'm feeling now,

0:30:30 > 0:30:33it would be a constant if we came out here.

0:30:33 > 0:30:36Ultimately, the reason I'm here is not just for me,

0:30:36 > 0:30:40it's for Keira and for our new family.

0:30:41 > 0:30:45The most overriding thing is for a better life for our kids.

0:30:45 > 0:30:48It's a really, really hard decision to make.

0:30:50 > 0:30:53And I don't suppose until I flip the cards

0:30:53 > 0:30:55I'll know which way I'm going to go.

0:30:56 > 0:30:59They had such a positive start to the week,

0:30:59 > 0:31:03but the prospect of leaving friends and family behind and bringing up

0:31:03 > 0:31:07their first child alone had made this huge decision even harder.

0:31:07 > 0:31:09It was crunch time.

0:31:09 > 0:31:13Will Keira and Andy choose a new life down under,

0:31:13 > 0:31:15or was there too much tying them to the UK?

0:31:15 > 0:31:19Based on everything we've seen here in Darwin, our vote goes to...

0:31:20 > 0:31:23BOTH: ..UK.

0:31:23 > 0:31:26I'm shocked that you voted for UK!

0:31:26 > 0:31:31- I know. But there's a big caveat to that.- Go on.

0:31:31 > 0:31:35That I think Australia is my long-term vote, without a doubt...

0:31:35 > 0:31:43but not having your mum and dad around when the baby's an infant

0:31:43 > 0:31:45I think would be too hard for you.

0:31:45 > 0:31:46I absolutely love it here,

0:31:46 > 0:31:49but I couldn't do it without my family and friends.

0:31:49 > 0:31:52Having your first child is going to be hard enough without having

0:31:52 > 0:31:56- your mum and my mum and your sister around you at the time.- Yeah.

0:31:56 > 0:32:00- Yeah. - Maybe, I think it's a timing issue.

0:32:00 > 0:32:02Maybe.

0:32:08 > 0:32:13I think at this moment in time, it's probably just...the wrong time.

0:32:13 > 0:32:16For me, I don't think the book's closed.

0:32:16 > 0:32:19I still want to come out here and I think everything we've seen

0:32:19 > 0:32:22just makes me want to come out here even more, really,

0:32:22 > 0:32:25but I think the timing isn't quite right really.

0:32:25 > 0:32:29I think it would be too hard raising our first child on our own.

0:32:29 > 0:32:32Give the child a couple of months and see how we feel then.

0:32:32 > 0:32:35Maybe six months down the line, we'll feel differently.

0:32:35 > 0:32:40I still think it's on the horizon in the short to medium term, hopefully.

0:32:46 > 0:32:51So, in 2009, the Roberts voted for the UK.

0:32:51 > 0:32:55We've caught up with them again - baby has arrived,

0:32:55 > 0:32:58but where are they now and how are they getting on?

0:33:00 > 0:33:05They are still in the UK - and with the arrival of baby Jack their family has grown.

0:33:05 > 0:33:10A year ago, they both agreed the UK was right for the time being.

0:33:10 > 0:33:12But where do they see their future?

0:33:12 > 0:33:18Will they be united or do they ultimately want to live in two very different places?

0:33:19 > 0:33:22It feels like a lifetime ago since we were in Australia,

0:33:22 > 0:33:26even though it was just about a year ago.

0:33:26 > 0:33:27Um...

0:33:27 > 0:33:30So much has changed and a lot of things have happened.

0:33:30 > 0:33:32We've had Jack, a new addition to our family.

0:33:32 > 0:33:36November 17th, Jack was born.

0:33:36 > 0:33:39- 2009.- Mm-hm.- A few months after we came back from Darwin.

0:33:39 > 0:33:43- Things changed a lot then, didn't they?- Yeah.

0:33:43 > 0:33:44Definitely did.

0:33:44 > 0:33:49Yeah, nothing prepares you for parenthood, I don't think. Um...

0:33:49 > 0:33:52Seeing the birth, nothing prepares you for that either.

0:33:52 > 0:33:55That did mess up my head a little bit.

0:33:55 > 0:33:58Still not sleeping properly now, to be honest, but...

0:33:58 > 0:34:00And he wasn't the one that gave birth.

0:34:00 > 0:34:03BABY CRIES

0:34:03 > 0:34:06- Shall we go and... Do you want to? - Yeah, I'll go and get him.

0:34:07 > 0:34:09All right, this is our little baby boy, Jack.

0:34:09 > 0:34:13The last time everybody saw him, he was in the scans.

0:34:13 > 0:34:16- He's...- He still keeps us up at night every now and again,

0:34:16 > 0:34:18but he's generally very well-tempered.

0:34:18 > 0:34:22Be better if he was in Australia, he'd be more well-behaved in the sunshine.

0:34:22 > 0:34:23- Do you think?- Yeah.

0:34:23 > 0:34:25I think it'd be great for him.

0:34:25 > 0:34:28- JACK MOANS - Do you agree?

0:34:28 > 0:34:29I don't think he does.

0:34:29 > 0:34:36From first impressions, it seems Andy is still keen to make a better life for his family in Australia,

0:34:36 > 0:34:37and Keira still has her doubts.

0:34:37 > 0:34:41But Jack has become their top priority.

0:34:41 > 0:34:44Not much has changed in the house over the last 12 months,

0:34:44 > 0:34:47cos we've had our hands full with a little baby, but, um...

0:34:47 > 0:34:48soon as we got back from Darwin,

0:34:48 > 0:34:51the first thing I did was sort his little nursery out.

0:34:51 > 0:34:53And this is it.

0:34:53 > 0:34:55Dab hand at the DIY now.

0:34:55 > 0:34:57Yeah. It's a bit blue, but...

0:34:57 > 0:34:59HE LAUGHS What do you expect with a boy?

0:34:59 > 0:35:02It's all right. I'd prefer it to be red.

0:35:02 > 0:35:04Jack may have taken over their lives,

0:35:04 > 0:35:09but thoughts of Australia are still at the forefront of their minds.

0:35:11 > 0:35:16I was quite surprised that I liked it so much.

0:35:16 > 0:35:21Um, didn't think I would and... I really was hoping that I wouldn't.

0:35:21 > 0:35:22It's quite big.

0:35:22 > 0:35:28It's my ideal...of a home.

0:35:28 > 0:35:31I think the life for the baby would definitely be better here

0:35:31 > 0:35:33than it is back at home.

0:35:33 > 0:35:38Um, saw the family-and-friends DVD and was devastated for the whole day.

0:35:38 > 0:35:40Cos I don't think you realise...

0:35:40 > 0:35:42until you think about it that way,

0:35:42 > 0:35:44what you're giving up.

0:35:44 > 0:35:47Um, I know it's a fabulous place,

0:35:47 > 0:35:52and they've got a lot to offer, for young families in particular,

0:35:52 > 0:35:57but I think family and friends are a lot more important

0:35:57 > 0:36:01- and they play a... They will play a key role in Jack's upbringing.- Hmm.

0:36:01 > 0:36:04It does bring it home, the family and friends,

0:36:04 > 0:36:06and now I've had the baby,

0:36:06 > 0:36:10that family-and-friends network has been invaluable really.

0:36:10 > 0:36:12We've just had him christened,

0:36:12 > 0:36:15and 100 people turned up to the ceremony, so that brings it home -

0:36:15 > 0:36:18how important the family and friends are, really.

0:36:18 > 0:36:20But I'm still looking at the best thing for him,

0:36:20 > 0:36:24and I think the best thing for him is still to be over there, long-term.

0:36:24 > 0:36:28I don't regret going for, um... For the UK.

0:36:28 > 0:36:31But I still want to give it a go at some point if I can.

0:36:31 > 0:36:33I think if I pushed a little bit too much now,

0:36:33 > 0:36:37you'd probably find me with concrete boots on, wouldn't you?

0:36:37 > 0:36:40- SHE LAUGHS - Don't think they're too keen on me taking their daughter away,

0:36:40 > 0:36:42and the grandson as well now.

0:36:42 > 0:36:45Obviously that's made things a little bit... A bit More...

0:36:47 > 0:36:48Iffy, I suppose.

0:36:48 > 0:36:50- Iffy!- Couldn't say what I was going to say.

0:36:53 > 0:36:55Thought better of it.

0:36:55 > 0:36:59It's Keira's strong family ties which, at the moment,

0:36:59 > 0:37:02are keeping the Roberts in the UK.

0:37:02 > 0:37:07And with their own family growing, those bonds are even stronger.

0:37:07 > 0:37:11Especially those between grandson and grandmother.

0:37:11 > 0:37:15If it was what they wanted to do, then obviously, I would have accepted it, but...

0:37:15 > 0:37:18I was really, really pleased when they decided not to go.

0:37:18 > 0:37:20It's just too far away.

0:37:20 > 0:37:24And I wouldn't have had all these cuddles with the new baby, would I?

0:37:24 > 0:37:27Mum's been a godsend with Jack.

0:37:29 > 0:37:34I think it would have been very difficult to do it without her.

0:37:34 > 0:37:38You'd have coped, it just wouldn't have been the same, I don't think.

0:37:38 > 0:37:42- No.- You know, cos she is a coper, Keira.

0:37:42 > 0:37:45And it just would have been different.

0:37:45 > 0:37:47That's, you know... that's what it would have been.

0:37:47 > 0:37:50She said, if she could shovel everyone up

0:37:50 > 0:37:53and take everybody with her,

0:37:53 > 0:37:55so that's what I'd have to do as well.

0:37:55 > 0:37:58We'd have to shovel... We'd all have to go.

0:37:59 > 0:38:00So...

0:38:00 > 0:38:02- We could all go, couldn't we?- Yeah.

0:38:02 > 0:38:07But that's the only... I'm really close to my family as well, so...

0:38:07 > 0:38:10And I know it's... It might sound daft to some people,

0:38:10 > 0:38:13you know, letting that impact on the rest of your life,

0:38:13 > 0:38:15but I think family's really important.

0:38:15 > 0:38:18If it was something that they really wanted to do,

0:38:18 > 0:38:20then obviously, you know, we'd support them in it.

0:38:20 > 0:38:21Of course we would.

0:38:21 > 0:38:24We'd just cry the whole time they were there.

0:38:26 > 0:38:28With baby Jack's arrival,

0:38:28 > 0:38:31Keira has come to truly appreciate the invaluable help

0:38:31 > 0:38:33and support of her family.

0:38:33 > 0:38:36If the Roberts are ever to start a new life in Australia,

0:38:36 > 0:38:41Andy once again has his work cut out persuading Keira to make the move.

0:38:41 > 0:38:46You do realise that you can't be forcing things onto her

0:38:46 > 0:38:48and you do realise that you've got to...

0:38:48 > 0:38:51You know, you're in a marriage, you've got to share and share alike.

0:38:51 > 0:38:55He's, you know...he's my husband and he's there to support me, so...

0:38:55 > 0:38:56Um...

0:38:56 > 0:38:58Although he was probably disappointed, yeah.

0:38:58 > 0:39:00Um...

0:39:00 > 0:39:03He understands the reasoning behind it.

0:39:05 > 0:39:08I was disappointed, very disappointed really,

0:39:08 > 0:39:11that it was something we weren't going to end up doing,

0:39:11 > 0:39:12but it wasn't unexpected.

0:39:12 > 0:39:14So...

0:39:14 > 0:39:16I wasn't gutted and I don't think I regret it,

0:39:16 > 0:39:19the fact that we're not over there now, but...

0:39:19 > 0:39:20it's still something I'd like to do.

0:39:20 > 0:39:22He talks about Australia a lot.

0:39:23 > 0:39:25Yeah, um...

0:39:25 > 0:39:27When it's a bit dull outside or...

0:39:27 > 0:39:32when we're doing something, he's says things like,

0:39:32 > 0:39:36"Well, if it was in Australia it wouldn't be raining," or...

0:39:36 > 0:39:40Just little sly digs. Quite... quite a lot of the time.

0:39:40 > 0:39:43Generations of my family have been within a radius of five miles,

0:39:43 > 0:39:46and I always thought it was a bit depressing, to be honest.

0:39:46 > 0:39:49There's a big world out there, and you've got to go out

0:39:49 > 0:39:52and experience as much as you can before you don't have a chance to.

0:39:52 > 0:39:58I'd still, even in the future, I'd need that support to come with me.

0:39:58 > 0:40:02I couldn't just do it with me and Andy on our own.

0:40:02 > 0:40:05You do only get one chance in life and...

0:40:05 > 0:40:08I don't want to look back on my life when I'm on my deathbed

0:40:08 > 0:40:11and think, "I could have done that and didn't."

0:40:11 > 0:40:12Um...

0:40:12 > 0:40:15And that bothers me more than anything else, really.

0:40:15 > 0:40:19This moment in time, I'm just really enjoying Jack

0:40:19 > 0:40:23and where we're at at this moment in our life,

0:40:23 > 0:40:24and, um...

0:40:24 > 0:40:27That's what I'm thinking about at the moment,

0:40:27 > 0:40:30and maybe Australia can come in the future.

0:40:30 > 0:40:31Um...

0:40:31 > 0:40:32Maybe it won't.

0:40:32 > 0:40:36I don't know. It's something we really need to talk about further down the line, I think.

0:40:36 > 0:40:40Keira seems certain that she could not make the move down under

0:40:40 > 0:40:41without her family,

0:40:41 > 0:40:44but Andy's mind is still full of ideas of emigration.

0:40:44 > 0:40:47When it comes to making their final vote,

0:40:47 > 0:40:49which way will they go?

0:40:50 > 0:40:54I really loved Australia and...

0:40:54 > 0:40:58you know, in the long-run, I would like to move over there.

0:40:58 > 0:41:02But based on, um... Well, knowing that my family and friends...

0:41:02 > 0:41:06I couldn't just shovel them up and take them with me,

0:41:06 > 0:41:08my vote goes to the UK.

0:41:08 > 0:41:10ANDY INHALES

0:41:10 > 0:41:15As Keira says, a lot of things have changed over the last 12 months.

0:41:15 > 0:41:19And it puts a lot of focus on family, having a new baby boy.

0:41:19 > 0:41:20Um...

0:41:20 > 0:41:24But my ambition to go to Australia still remains though.

0:41:24 > 0:41:27But, um, I'm more happy

0:41:27 > 0:41:29with the fact that we are in the UK.

0:41:31 > 0:41:33But having said that, I'm going to go for...

0:41:33 > 0:41:35Australia.

0:41:35 > 0:41:37SHE GIGGLES

0:41:37 > 0:41:38I knew you'd do that.

0:41:38 > 0:41:41The thing is, it's where you would like to be.

0:41:41 > 0:41:44And it's where you would like to be in the future,

0:41:44 > 0:41:45is why I voted for Australia.

0:41:45 > 0:41:47When I voted the UK originally,

0:41:47 > 0:41:51that was because I knew it was too hard for Keira at that time.

0:41:51 > 0:41:55So it was a vote at that specific moment in time.

0:41:55 > 0:41:57But I would still like to go over there.

0:41:57 > 0:42:00It's not the end of the rainbow, by any means.

0:42:00 > 0:42:02It's not what a lot of people make out, but...

0:42:02 > 0:42:04I'd still like to be there.

0:42:04 > 0:42:05But having said that,

0:42:05 > 0:42:09I am happy to be here, I'm not gutted that we're not there.

0:42:09 > 0:42:12But I still harbour some dreams.

0:42:12 > 0:42:16I'm just glad that Andy's understanding

0:42:16 > 0:42:20and know exactly where my thoughts are.

0:42:20 > 0:42:23And knows why, um...

0:42:23 > 0:42:27You know, what's holding me back. I would go there

0:42:27 > 0:42:31if other people agreed to go there with me.

0:42:31 > 0:42:33So I'm not going to budge on that one.

0:42:33 > 0:42:36It's amazing how you'll follow your brothers and sisters,

0:42:36 > 0:42:38but you won't follow your husband.

0:42:41 > 0:42:44The Roberts have not yet made the move to Australia,

0:42:44 > 0:42:49and it seems their dream is on hold for the time being.

0:42:49 > 0:42:50The arrival of baby Jack

0:42:50 > 0:42:55might just be enough of a life-altering change for now.
