0:00:02 > 0:00:05Persuading your teenage children to leave their lives behind them
0:00:05 > 0:00:08for a new start abroad is no easy matter.
0:00:08 > 0:00:13In 2010, that was the challenge faced by Andy and Lynn Horn
0:00:13 > 0:00:15when they sampled life in Australia.
0:00:15 > 0:00:17Today, we're going to find out
0:00:17 > 0:00:21how they coped with that potentially heart-breaking choice.
0:00:21 > 0:00:25For 30 years, Lynn Horn believed in the idea of a better life down under,
0:00:25 > 0:00:27but her children didn't share that dream.
0:00:27 > 0:00:30I'm not only losing a boyfriend, I'm losing a friend.
0:00:30 > 0:00:33And if the numbers wouldn't add up,
0:00:33 > 0:00:36could the Horns really afford the life Lynn hoped for?
0:00:36 > 0:00:40I'm just realising it might not ever, ever happen.
0:00:40 > 0:00:43Especially if it came at the cost of splitting the family in two.
0:00:44 > 0:00:49I couldn't stay in England and have these three in Australia. Couldn't do it.
0:00:49 > 0:00:52One year on, we're catching up with the Horns
0:00:52 > 0:00:55to find out how and where they are now.
0:01:18 > 0:01:23In 2010, the Horn family faced a life-changing decision -
0:01:23 > 0:01:26whether to stay in the UK or to move to Australia.
0:01:26 > 0:01:30We gave them one week to experience life down under
0:01:30 > 0:01:33but what's happened since we last met them?
0:01:33 > 0:01:38Self-employed glazer Andy and pre-school teacher Lynn Horn
0:01:38 > 0:01:39lived in Herne Bay in Kent.
0:01:39 > 0:01:44Their son Chris was aged 18, and daughter Kirsty, 17.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47They loved the life they'd built for themselves here,
0:01:47 > 0:01:51but it was not enough for Lynn and she was desperate for a change.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53I've wanted to go since I was about nine.
0:01:53 > 0:01:57My mum went to Australia on a cricket tour with my dad
0:01:57 > 0:02:02and ever since they came back, raving about the place, I've wanted to go.
0:02:02 > 0:02:03I told Andy that when I met him
0:02:03 > 0:02:06and we've tried a couple of times, we've looked into it,
0:02:06 > 0:02:10but we've always thought something wasn't right, timings weren't right.
0:02:10 > 0:02:16She talked Andy into giving Australia a try, but he was not convinced she was really certain.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19It's been a long time since she's first dreamed about going.
0:02:19 > 0:02:24I'm still not sure she's 100% she wants to go.
0:02:24 > 0:02:28I'm not sure whether she's really committed
0:02:28 > 0:02:32to leaving everything she's got, to make that big move.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35There were two other potential problems.
0:02:35 > 0:02:39Chris and Kirsty were old enough to stay at home on their own,
0:02:39 > 0:02:44but Lynn wouldn't contemplate splitting the family up.
0:02:44 > 0:02:49We want more from life and want more for the children, for their futures,
0:02:49 > 0:02:51which we don't think they'll get over here.
0:02:51 > 0:02:55Chris was about to leave school, and the timing couldn't be worse.
0:02:55 > 0:02:57He needed some serious convincing.
0:02:57 > 0:03:00For me, I feel a bit confused about where I am
0:03:00 > 0:03:04and what could happen within the next couple of years.
0:03:04 > 0:03:10The trial we're going on is going to have a massive impact on all of us.
0:03:10 > 0:03:16For Kirsty, leaving her big group of friends and boyfriend behind was unthinkable.
0:03:16 > 0:03:22Despite everything her parents had told her, she couldn't imagine a future in Australia.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24If we made the move, we'd leave so much behind.
0:03:27 > 0:03:30I love life as it is now. I'm not sure it's worth giving up.
0:03:34 > 0:03:37But Andy could see the possibilities down under
0:03:37 > 0:03:41and had grand plans.
0:03:41 > 0:03:44If I do get any time off work then I'm out on the golf course
0:03:44 > 0:03:46playing somewhere.
0:03:46 > 0:03:49I must admit, the golf course is where all my friends are.
0:03:49 > 0:03:54I've always wanted to build myself a small crazy golf centre.
0:03:54 > 0:03:56That would be my ultimate dream.
0:03:56 > 0:04:02Even so, Andy was heading out to Australia with some doubts.
0:04:02 > 0:04:06There's still a lot of convincing for me to go as well, I think.
0:04:06 > 0:04:09If things don't work out this side,
0:04:09 > 0:04:11for us to make that initial move,
0:04:11 > 0:04:15then, you know, we don't go, basically.
0:04:15 > 0:04:19But Lynn was still convinced the move was right.
0:04:19 > 0:04:21For her, there was only one barrier.
0:04:21 > 0:04:26Finances are the only thing that could actually stop it from occurring, I think.
0:04:26 > 0:04:32Selling Andy's business, selling the house, getting the money we need for the house,
0:04:32 > 0:04:36to then make the move over is purely financial.
0:04:44 > 0:04:47The Horns spent the week in Adelaide to help them decide.
0:04:47 > 0:04:51After a 23-hour journey across three continents,
0:04:51 > 0:04:53they were tired and emotional.
0:04:58 > 0:04:59We've had tears on the way.
0:04:59 > 0:05:01Don't, cos I'll start again.
0:05:01 > 0:05:03No, you won't.
0:05:03 > 0:05:07However, Lynn was remaining positive.
0:05:07 > 0:05:10- Really looking forward to it. - Here we come, Adelaide!
0:05:12 > 0:05:17She had to persuade the whole family that life down under was for them,
0:05:17 > 0:05:18so she could realise her dream.
0:05:20 > 0:05:23Their home for the week was in Henley Beach
0:05:23 > 0:05:25and was the perfect base to explore the area.
0:05:27 > 0:05:31After the draining flight, they were all feeling the effects.
0:05:31 > 0:05:37Being on the flight for 23 hours overall
0:05:37 > 0:05:40definitely made me realise how far Australia is away from home.
0:05:40 > 0:05:43Kirsty had a lot to leave behind,
0:05:43 > 0:05:48so Andy and Lynn had a huge challenge ahead to persuade her to move.
0:05:48 > 0:05:52I'm going to try really hard throughout this week
0:05:52 > 0:05:56to try and make a point that this is going to be a really good idea
0:05:56 > 0:05:59and there will be everything for her that she wants here.
0:05:59 > 0:06:02Which is why the week is so important for us.
0:06:02 > 0:06:05Not just for us, but for Kirsty as well.
0:06:05 > 0:06:08They really had their work cut out.
0:06:08 > 0:06:11Kirsty's mind was still on everything she'd be leaving in the UK.
0:06:11 > 0:06:15I don't think it's hit me yet that we could actually move out here.
0:06:15 > 0:06:18We don't have any family out here, or friends.
0:06:18 > 0:06:23I mean, we would make friends, but I'd still miss my old ones.
0:06:23 > 0:06:29With so much on their minds, the week ahead was going to be full of difficult decisions.
0:06:29 > 0:06:32So, would life in Australia be for them?
0:06:37 > 0:06:42Back in the UK, the Horn family lived in a three-bed, end-of-terrace property in Herne Bay.
0:06:42 > 0:06:47They loved their home and although they wanted to get something bigger,
0:06:47 > 0:06:49they weren't expecting a mansion.
0:06:52 > 0:06:56If they got the £175,000 they hoped it was worth,
0:06:56 > 0:07:01they'd have a total budget of £230,000 to spend on a home in Oz.
0:07:04 > 0:07:06We showed them three properties,
0:07:06 > 0:07:09to give them an idea of what they could afford.
0:07:09 > 0:07:14Property one was in Seaton, a busy suburb 25 minutes from the city centre
0:07:14 > 0:07:16and only ten minutes from the beach.
0:07:19 > 0:07:24This Tudor-style three-bedroomed property was under budget at:
0:07:24 > 0:07:29It needed some updating, but could the Horns see any potential?
0:07:33 > 0:07:36- It's the same size as ours. - I like the flooring.
0:07:36 > 0:07:38Yeah.
0:07:38 > 0:07:42I've always wanted the kitchen and diner combined.
0:07:42 > 0:07:43- Yeah, the open plan.- Yeah.
0:07:48 > 0:07:52- Nice size.- Yeah. Not bad, is it? - Happy with the view, as well.
0:07:53 > 0:07:57- I like this room. Nice size. - KIRSTY:- This will be my room!
0:07:57 > 0:08:00- A bit of redecoration. A bit of painting.- Yeah.
0:08:02 > 0:08:05Outside, there was an al-fresco dining area
0:08:05 > 0:08:07typical of Aussie homes.
0:08:07 > 0:08:12You probably get about three days a year in the UK with barbecues.
0:08:12 > 0:08:13Here, it's three days a week.
0:08:16 > 0:08:19- It's really nice.- I really like the house. It's a good size.
0:08:19 > 0:08:22Driveway space is a bit limited.
0:08:22 > 0:08:26You'd be vying for a parking spot each night.
0:08:26 > 0:08:28The parking space had ruled out property one.
0:08:28 > 0:08:31Could property two win them over?
0:08:32 > 0:08:35In the up-and-coming suburb of Queenstown,
0:08:35 > 0:08:38property prices were generally lower than the city average.
0:08:38 > 0:08:42This huge house offered three or four good-sized bedrooms
0:08:42 > 0:08:48and a massive living space, all for:
0:08:48 > 0:08:51Estate agent Sean O'Hara
0:08:51 > 0:08:53was waiting to show them around.
0:08:55 > 0:08:59It definitely had the space they wanted, but could it impress the Horn family?
0:08:59 > 0:09:02Wow! Kirst, I would be in my element!
0:09:02 > 0:09:06- I want this room. - Do you? You can't have it!
0:09:06 > 0:09:08Dad, you can be in the other room.
0:09:08 > 0:09:11- Go into the kitchen. - Cool. Cup of coffee.
0:09:11 > 0:09:14Bit of updating, doesn't it?
0:09:20 > 0:09:22Wow!
0:09:22 > 0:09:26You could fit our house in this space, and I'm not joking! Seriously.
0:09:26 > 0:09:28It's big enough for you, then?
0:09:28 > 0:09:31- Just a little bit, yes! - It's unreal, isn't it?
0:09:32 > 0:09:38This property seemed to be going down well, but Andy spotted a potential problem.
0:09:38 > 0:09:40It hasn't got any air-con, has it?
0:09:40 > 0:09:45No. There is an air conditioner in the lounge, but it needs upgrading as it's old.
0:09:45 > 0:09:48You'd need a split system and put it in a couple of rooms.
0:09:48 > 0:09:52So, did they really like it or were they just being polite?
0:09:52 > 0:09:56I don't think it was the kind of house we'd live in.
0:09:56 > 0:10:00I'm not sure whether I could live here.
0:10:00 > 0:10:03- It's too big for me. I like to be cosy.- Hmm.
0:10:03 > 0:10:07So, it was up to property three to win them over.
0:10:07 > 0:10:10On the market for £255,000,
0:10:10 > 0:10:13this four-bedroom, two-bathroom house
0:10:13 > 0:10:16was £25,000 over budget.
0:10:16 > 0:10:20But with a room each, a large garden and spectacular views,
0:10:20 > 0:10:22could they be persuaded to stretch their finances?
0:10:22 > 0:10:25- This is nice.- It's huge.
0:10:25 > 0:10:28- You can see the sea from here. - Beautiful, isn't it?
0:10:28 > 0:10:30Lovely.
0:10:30 > 0:10:32So far, they were all impressed by this house.
0:10:32 > 0:10:34- This is nice.- Wow.
0:10:34 > 0:10:40- This is a lovely kitchen. I can see myself in here.- I can imagine sitting here for breakfast.
0:10:40 > 0:10:45- You wouldn't need a dining room. - There's one there. Can't believe how big the rooms are.
0:10:47 > 0:10:51- You wouldn't have to do anything here.- No, you could just move in.
0:10:51 > 0:10:53And the garden really hit the spot.
0:10:53 > 0:10:59- It's stunning. There's not much maintenance.- Not at all.- Cutting the grass and watering the plants.
0:10:59 > 0:11:03But upstairs, Andy found something he was not happy about.
0:11:03 > 0:11:07For the size of the house, I think it's quite a small bathroom.
0:11:07 > 0:11:11- This is similar to what we've got at home.- Hmm.
0:11:11 > 0:11:14There was just the master bedroom to seal the deal.
0:11:14 > 0:11:16Oh, my lord!
0:11:18 > 0:11:21- Look at this!- Wow!
0:11:21 > 0:11:24- Now, this...- Is the bee's knees.
0:11:25 > 0:11:27Oh, wow! Look at those views!
0:11:27 > 0:11:31Views all the way round, by the looks of it.
0:11:31 > 0:11:33Who wouldn't want to live in this house?
0:11:33 > 0:11:36- This is just mad.- Amazing, isn't it?
0:11:36 > 0:11:39- This...this is the dream, really, isn't it?- Yeah.
0:11:39 > 0:11:44This house is over budget by about 50,000, I think.
0:11:44 > 0:11:51But if there's a way we can find to get that other 50,000,
0:11:51 > 0:11:56- really try hard to find jobs to get that budget.- Yeah.
0:11:56 > 0:11:59I would do anything to have this house. It's amazing.
0:11:59 > 0:12:03Andy had fallen in love with the place.
0:12:03 > 0:12:07But if they couldn't find the right jobs, they'd never be able to afford it.
0:12:07 > 0:12:13The Horn family liked property one, but the parking space was a problem.
0:12:13 > 0:12:15Property two had the floor space,
0:12:15 > 0:12:18but they couldn't see themselves living there.
0:12:21 > 0:12:26And property three, let's say it fulfilled the term "dream home", for Andy at least.
0:12:26 > 0:12:30But giving up their home in Herne Bay wouldn't be easy.
0:12:30 > 0:12:34Had they seen enough in Australia to make it worthwhile?
0:12:34 > 0:12:37It was time to vote on property.
0:12:39 > 0:12:43Based on the houses we've seen today, our vote is going to be...
0:12:52 > 0:12:55ALL: Australia.
0:12:55 > 0:12:58- You can't compare, really, can you?- No.
0:12:58 > 0:13:00We're at that vital stage now.
0:13:00 > 0:13:03We really need to know our budget, what we can afford.
0:13:03 > 0:13:06The dream is to sell the house and the business,
0:13:06 > 0:13:09make a bit of profit on both of them,
0:13:09 > 0:13:14and have that as a set-up for coming out here and starting a new life.
0:13:20 > 0:13:25Back in the UK, Lynn worked as a pre-school supervisor.
0:13:25 > 0:13:28I love my job. I don't get up and think, "I don't want to go to work."
0:13:28 > 0:13:30I just like it.
0:13:30 > 0:13:34She'd been working with young children for 24 years.
0:13:34 > 0:13:36Her skills were very transferable.
0:13:36 > 0:13:40She would have to work more hours in Australia,
0:13:40 > 0:13:44but hoped to earn more than the 14,000 she was currently earning.
0:13:47 > 0:13:50Lynn visited a pre-school in the heart of Adelaide
0:13:50 > 0:13:53to find out if she'd like working there.
0:13:53 > 0:13:58I'm a bit nervous at the minute, and a bit excited about it.
0:13:58 > 0:14:01I want to get an overall view of how the systems work,
0:14:01 > 0:14:04an idea of wages and hours would be good,
0:14:04 > 0:14:10just to have a rough guideline on what I could expect to earn if we came over here.
0:14:10 > 0:14:16She met with pre-school director Melissa Ray for a rapid introduction to teaching in Australia.
0:14:16 > 0:14:19- Come through and I'll show you a classroom.- OK.
0:14:19 > 0:14:25It was straight in at the deep end for Lynn, but there was a great reception waiting for her!
0:14:25 > 0:14:28- ALL:- Hi, Lynn! - Hello!
0:14:28 > 0:14:31With creative learning a key philosophy at this school,
0:14:31 > 0:14:33Lynn seemed to be fitting in perfectly.
0:14:33 > 0:14:36Are they all gone? You did good pinning.
0:14:36 > 0:14:40As she settled in to a day at work,
0:14:40 > 0:14:44Andy was determined to find out if his dream to own a mini golf course
0:14:44 > 0:14:47really could be viable in Australia.
0:14:47 > 0:14:50It was something he'd wanted for years
0:14:50 > 0:14:55and making the move could provide him with a chance to fulfil his dream.
0:14:55 > 0:14:58He met with mini golf course owner Brian
0:14:58 > 0:15:01to discuss the real pros and cons of the business
0:15:01 > 0:15:02over a quick game.
0:15:02 > 0:15:05In you go! Look at that!
0:15:05 > 0:15:10For Andy to afford to start a business like this, he'd be relying on what he'd get
0:15:10 > 0:15:12by selling his glazing business back in the UK.
0:15:12 > 0:15:16But there were significant costs Andy hadn't even have thought of.
0:15:16 > 0:15:22The maintenance involved in mini golf is keeping the greens nice and clean.
0:15:22 > 0:15:29To carpet something like this is going to cost 30 or 40,000. It's not cheap.
0:15:29 > 0:15:33But before he even considered finding the money for the carpet,
0:15:33 > 0:15:37Andy would need a plot of land to buy or rent to put his mini golf course on.
0:15:39 > 0:15:42If you're starting from scratch, you have to buy land.
0:15:42 > 0:15:44It's got to be in the right place too.
0:15:44 > 0:15:49You probably make 85% of your income during school holidays.
0:15:49 > 0:15:52The only day we close here is Christmas Day.
0:15:52 > 0:15:56So, this really was a full-time job and the more Andy found out,
0:15:56 > 0:15:59the more he realised his ambition was out of reach.
0:16:02 > 0:16:07Well, my dream for this golf, mini golf,
0:16:07 > 0:16:10um, I think is going to stay a dream, to be honest with you.
0:16:10 > 0:16:14It looked like he'd have to find an alternative income,
0:16:14 > 0:16:17so it was even more important that Lynn was happy teaching in Australia.
0:16:17 > 0:16:21Back at the school, Lynn found out how classes were run
0:16:21 > 0:16:23from teacher Shi Li.
0:16:23 > 0:16:26There are three main teachers who plan for the students in class.
0:16:26 > 0:16:31So, on average, there's about 17 per teacher.
0:16:31 > 0:16:34That includes children with special needs.
0:16:34 > 0:16:38Is that high, in general? Is that a high number to have each?
0:16:38 > 0:16:41- Or is it about right? - That's about right.
0:16:41 > 0:16:46It was more children per teacher than she had to deal with in the UK.
0:16:46 > 0:16:51Lynn needed to find out if she could earn enough money to stretch their property budget.
0:16:51 > 0:16:54If she couldn't, the whole move could be off.
0:16:54 > 0:16:57What would be the sort of start pay?
0:16:57 > 0:17:00At our centre, it's about 880 a week.
0:17:00 > 0:17:03So, that's about 46,000 a year to work here as a team leader.
0:17:03 > 0:17:10That was about £27,000, almost double what Lynn was earning back in the UK.
0:17:10 > 0:17:14- Excellent. It's been lovely to meet you.- Thank you.
0:17:16 > 0:17:20The wages might be better, but she'd be working longer hours,
0:17:20 > 0:17:22with less responsibilities.
0:17:22 > 0:17:27Had it been enough to convince her to leave behind the school she loved in the UK?
0:17:28 > 0:17:31Based on what I've experienced today at the pre-school,
0:17:31 > 0:17:34my vote for jobs would be...
0:17:36 > 0:17:38..Australia.
0:17:40 > 0:17:45I could really work in a place like that. The setting was lovely, the people were nice.
0:17:45 > 0:17:49That's the sort of setting that I would really fit into.
0:17:49 > 0:17:51Lynn had been impressed with work,
0:17:51 > 0:17:54but if Andy was unable to subsidise the income,
0:17:54 > 0:17:57it would impact on their finances.
0:18:01 > 0:18:05For the Horn family to achieve their dream home in Australia,
0:18:05 > 0:18:11they needed to secure not only good jobs, but also a good price for their home in the UK.
0:18:11 > 0:18:14We sent two estate agents to their house to give them their opinion.
0:18:14 > 0:18:17- All that snow on the ground! - It's our house!
0:18:20 > 0:18:22Not a large kitchen, but adequate.
0:18:22 > 0:18:25Hob, oven. Do with a bit of a clean.
0:18:26 > 0:18:28Quite a good size.
0:18:30 > 0:18:32Ah. Conservatory.
0:18:32 > 0:18:36The only problem being maybe it's not double-glazed.
0:18:36 > 0:18:38It is double-glazed!
0:18:38 > 0:18:41An interesting start. Was the second opinion any better?
0:18:41 > 0:18:46A very useable space for a modern family.
0:18:46 > 0:18:51Nice useable conservatory. Nice to see timber construction, for a change.
0:18:51 > 0:18:56Not a large bathroom. And master bedroom. Nice room.
0:18:56 > 0:19:00The Horns hoped it was worth £175,000.
0:19:01 > 0:19:04Ideal little family house. Modern end-terrace, recently built.
0:19:04 > 0:19:06If I was to put this on the market,
0:19:06 > 0:19:09I would value it at around about 160,000.
0:19:09 > 0:19:11If they were looking for a quick sale,
0:19:11 > 0:19:14I'd recommend putting it on at 154,950.
0:19:16 > 0:19:21In the current market, I would value this house at £169,000.
0:19:21 > 0:19:23If we wanted to get a queue at the door,
0:19:23 > 0:19:28if it went on the market between 160 and £165,000
0:19:28 > 0:19:31then I feel it would go very quickly.
0:19:31 > 0:19:36I've adjusted to the fact that we'll only get X amount now.
0:19:36 > 0:19:40We were hoping to come to Australia with a budget
0:19:40 > 0:19:42and we've just watched that crumble, basically.
0:19:42 > 0:19:46But the house was only part of the package.
0:19:46 > 0:19:49They had to make the comparison between their UK finances
0:19:49 > 0:19:51and what they could afford in Australia.
0:19:51 > 0:19:54If they were going to struggle to afford the life they wanted,
0:19:54 > 0:19:57Lynn's dream could be over.
0:19:57 > 0:20:00- Shall we start with salary, then? - Yeah.
0:20:00 > 0:20:03- That's your wage before tax. - Before tax.
0:20:03 > 0:20:05So, we bring home 42.4.
0:20:05 > 0:20:13If I worked 40 hours, I'd be bringing home 26, nearly 26.5.
0:20:13 > 0:20:15And you'd be bringing home 27.
0:20:15 > 0:20:19- A 4,000 drop.- Yes. But they clobber you for tax.
0:20:19 > 0:20:23- So, it's 6,000 a year. - We'd be £500 a month worse off.
0:20:23 > 0:20:26Mortgage. We pay 450.
0:20:26 > 0:20:32- Repayments would be 969.- So, we're doing it on property three, then.
0:20:33 > 0:20:36Groceries. It's a bit smaller.
0:20:36 > 0:20:39- Bit smaller.- There we go. - That's perfect.
0:20:39 > 0:20:43Chicken's expensive. 5.72 to 6.79.
0:20:43 > 0:20:45- That's quite a jump.- About a pound.
0:20:45 > 0:20:48Let's add up the monthly figures.
0:20:48 > 0:20:52UK is 1,855.
0:20:52 > 0:20:55And Australia is 2,605.
0:20:56 > 0:21:00That's 750 higher in Australia.
0:21:00 > 0:21:05- It almost looks like we've got to work...- Harder to get... - To pay for that.
0:21:05 > 0:21:08- It will be tight, though.- Very tight.
0:21:08 > 0:21:11It was a big disappointment.
0:21:11 > 0:21:15They'd be £750 a month worse off in Australia.
0:21:15 > 0:21:18The finances have got to start going the correct way now
0:21:18 > 0:21:21to keep our dream alive.
0:21:21 > 0:21:27If they keep dipping and dipping then our dream's fading with it.
0:21:30 > 0:21:33I'm just realising that it might never, ever happen.
0:21:35 > 0:21:37It'll happen.
0:21:37 > 0:21:39We've just got to be patient.
0:21:39 > 0:21:41Lynn's worst nightmare had been realised.
0:21:41 > 0:21:46How would this affect their vote? Was Australia an affordable option?
0:21:46 > 0:21:50That was a really hard exercise, going through the figures.
0:21:52 > 0:21:56But our decision on cost of living is going to be...
0:21:56 > 0:21:59- ..UK.- Australia.
0:22:01 > 0:22:04I thought you'd go the other way!
0:22:04 > 0:22:06You can think what you want to do.
0:22:06 > 0:22:10The cost of living is definitely better in the UK.
0:22:10 > 0:22:12The cost of living IS better in the UK,
0:22:12 > 0:22:16but we looked at the dearest house of the three.
0:22:16 > 0:22:19- I think definitely the dream is still on.- Yeah.
0:22:19 > 0:22:22- We'll have to delve a bit deeper to find that dream.- Mm.
0:22:22 > 0:22:24I'm not backing down.
0:22:24 > 0:22:26The dream is still on for me.
0:22:26 > 0:22:28And me, even though I went that way.
0:22:36 > 0:22:38Far from the snowy driving range in Herne Bay,
0:22:38 > 0:22:43Andy and Chris went to try out the exclusive Glenelg Golf Club.
0:22:43 > 0:22:44Paul and Henry Durgeon
0:22:44 > 0:22:48were getting warmed up for a friendly father-son game.
0:22:48 > 0:22:49- Chris, Paul.- Henry.
0:22:49 > 0:22:53But it wasn't long until the competitive spirit comes out.
0:22:53 > 0:22:57- Let's show these whippersnappers what it's all about!- Yep!
0:22:59 > 0:23:00Sharp! Perfect!
0:23:00 > 0:23:04It was Andy's passion, but Chris was certainly holding his own.
0:23:04 > 0:23:07- Great putt.- There you go. Lovely.
0:23:08 > 0:23:11Sharp! That'll show the boys!
0:23:11 > 0:23:14Time to get out of the blazing sun
0:23:14 > 0:23:17and the clubhouse was the perfect place for a well-earned drink.
0:23:17 > 0:23:21With so much to leave behind, the Horn family would need to convince themselves
0:23:21 > 0:23:25that Australia could fill the emotional gaps.
0:23:25 > 0:23:29Socialising and making new friends quickly were essential.
0:23:29 > 0:23:33And Paul was keen for them to meet his family.
0:23:40 > 0:23:44After a quick introduction to Paul's wife, Lisa, and daughter, Britney,
0:23:44 > 0:23:47it didn't take long for them all to get chatting.
0:23:47 > 0:23:49A little bit hot, is it?
0:23:49 > 0:23:52Whilst the parents got to know each other,
0:23:52 > 0:23:55the youngsters headed off to explore the park.
0:23:55 > 0:23:58Chris and Kirsty were both worried
0:23:58 > 0:24:01they wouldn't cope without their friends in the UK.
0:24:01 > 0:24:04So, it was crucial they found out if they could fit in here.
0:24:04 > 0:24:06They used a leisurely paddle
0:24:06 > 0:24:09as a chance to get some answers from their new friends.
0:24:09 > 0:24:11- I think we need to go that way. - Let's do a loop.
0:24:11 > 0:24:15Kirsty had some serious issues to discuss with Britney.
0:24:15 > 0:24:18- Have you got a boyfriend? - No. I hear you do, though.
0:24:18 > 0:24:21- Yeah. Back in England. - What's his name?- Calum.
0:24:21 > 0:24:24- Calum. That's a nice name. - Bless him.
0:24:24 > 0:24:27- Yeah. Tears at the airport. - Oh, really?
0:24:27 > 0:24:30But the boys had other priorities.
0:24:30 > 0:24:34Most people play footie for school and club footie.
0:24:34 > 0:24:37- Some other people play for league sides.- Right.
0:24:37 > 0:24:41So, a lot of people play three lots of footie in one week.
0:24:42 > 0:24:44They're having a great time.
0:24:44 > 0:24:50Lynn wanted to make sure there would be enough for Kirsty and Chris to do in Adelaide.
0:24:50 > 0:24:51It wasn't actually that bad.
0:24:51 > 0:24:57After all that exercise, it was time to see if the local tucker would go down a treat.
0:24:57 > 0:25:03- We have goat's cheese, sheep's cheese...- Kangaroo cheese?
0:25:03 > 0:25:06If you can work out a way to milk a kangaroo,
0:25:06 > 0:25:08you're doing better than us!
0:25:08 > 0:25:12The Horn family had a fantastic time.
0:25:12 > 0:25:16But thoughts of leaving their old friends behind were just below the surface.
0:25:18 > 0:25:19It was time to decide
0:25:19 > 0:25:23if the lifestyle in Australia would make the pain of leaving home bearable.
0:25:26 > 0:25:28Our vote is going to be...
0:25:33 > 0:25:35- Halfway.- Halfway.
0:25:36 > 0:25:37Australia.
0:25:39 > 0:25:41Australia.
0:25:42 > 0:25:46They were a great family today. They're really sociable out here.
0:25:46 > 0:25:50They made us feel like part of a group already. In one day.
0:25:50 > 0:25:56Really looking forward to meeting lots more people like that if we get to move here.
0:25:56 > 0:25:58Lynn and Kirsty remained undecided.
0:25:58 > 0:26:01Even though Chris and Andy had enjoyed the day out,
0:26:01 > 0:26:04the family were still no closer to agreement.
0:26:13 > 0:26:15Hearing messages from back home
0:26:15 > 0:26:18would make things even harder for the Horns.
0:26:18 > 0:26:21Hi, Lynn, Andy, Chris and Kirsty.
0:26:21 > 0:26:23Hello, Chris and Kirsty and Lynn and Andy.
0:26:23 > 0:26:26Lynn's a very responsible person.
0:26:26 > 0:26:28As far as the family are concerned,
0:26:28 > 0:26:33I couldn't fault her way of bringing up the children.
0:26:33 > 0:26:35Been very close to her all my life.
0:26:35 > 0:26:41When she met Andy, I felt I was losing the closest thing I'd got.
0:26:41 > 0:26:46But realised, in fact, I'd actually gained a brother, not lost a sister.
0:26:46 > 0:26:50He's good company, a good friend. Good fun to be with.
0:26:50 > 0:26:53- You just enjoy his company. - No-one's got a bad word for him.
0:26:53 > 0:26:58He's one of the legends, one of the kingpins of the club. Ex-captain.
0:26:58 > 0:27:01Chris is my closest and best friend because he's always there
0:27:01 > 0:27:04and he's kind and he goes out of his way
0:27:04 > 0:27:06more than my other friends will for me.
0:27:06 > 0:27:12- Kirsty's really easy to like. A really likeable person.- Funny.
0:27:12 > 0:27:13Loves to shop!
0:27:13 > 0:27:18She's constantly happy, talking to her friends.
0:27:18 > 0:27:21Bubbly person. Always knows when to have a laugh.
0:27:21 > 0:27:25She cheers me up whenever I'm a bit unhappy.
0:27:25 > 0:27:30I want her to enjoy herself, but I don't want her to love it that much she stays over there.
0:27:30 > 0:27:32We don't want her to leave.
0:27:32 > 0:27:34Kirsty belongs here with us.
0:27:34 > 0:27:40- LYNN'S MUM:- Naturally, I'd like to hope that they didn't make that decision to go permanently.
0:27:40 > 0:27:44I'd like to think that they would stay here.
0:27:45 > 0:27:48I'm going to really miss you if you go to Aussie.
0:27:50 > 0:27:52Even though I'm going to miss you,
0:27:52 > 0:27:57I think it's a brave decision and I'm going to really miss you.
0:28:04 > 0:28:08Seeing the messages made the pain of leaving even more real.
0:28:08 > 0:28:12It does make it hard to think about actually leaving Mum and Sue.
0:28:12 > 0:28:17If we miss our friends after a week, imagine after, like, a month!
0:28:17 > 0:28:19It's going to be so hard.
0:28:19 > 0:28:22Hits you in the heart. Shows you how close they really are.
0:28:22 > 0:28:27It would be the hardest decision, to leave behind.
0:28:27 > 0:28:32But splitting up the family just wasn't an option.
0:28:32 > 0:28:35I couldn't stay in Australia... stay in England
0:28:35 > 0:28:39and have these three out in Australia.
0:28:39 > 0:28:42- And vice versa.- Couldn't do it.
0:28:48 > 0:28:53The week had been emotionally draining for the whole family,
0:28:53 > 0:28:56but for Chris, it was the extreme heat that worried him the most.
0:28:56 > 0:29:00I've had really bad headaches, stomach pains.
0:29:00 > 0:29:03It will affect my decision
0:29:03 > 0:29:07because I'd have to deal with it all the time.
0:29:07 > 0:29:09Obviously because it's so hot.
0:29:09 > 0:29:13For Kirsty, the emotional pain was just as strong.
0:29:13 > 0:29:17I think I'm the one that would stop this move from happening.
0:29:17 > 0:29:21The thing is, with Calum, I'm not only losing a boyfriend, I'm losing a friend.
0:29:25 > 0:29:29Would the children stop Lynn fulfilling her dream?
0:29:29 > 0:29:32Potentially, either of them could say no, to be fair.
0:29:32 > 0:29:37To lose one of them, one of them to say, "I want to stay in the UK",
0:29:37 > 0:29:39would break my heart, I think.
0:29:39 > 0:29:41We may have to face up to that.
0:29:41 > 0:29:43It might be a reality that could happen.
0:29:43 > 0:29:47Yeah. Just have to take it a step at a time.
0:29:47 > 0:29:50When it came to the final decision, which way did they vote?
0:29:50 > 0:29:54This has been my dream, but now it's time for the family to vote.
0:29:54 > 0:29:57Based on what we've experienced in Australia this week,
0:29:57 > 0:29:58our vote is going to be...
0:30:03 > 0:30:05..Australia.
0:30:05 > 0:30:07- Australia.- Australia.
0:30:07 > 0:30:11Whether or not the family had the same vision for the future
0:30:11 > 0:30:12was on the turn of the last card.
0:30:12 > 0:30:14Halfway.
0:30:15 > 0:30:19- I'm shocked at you, Christopher.- Yeah.
0:30:19 > 0:30:24- I thought it'd be a half or... - You've been ill since you've been here, but you looked over that.
0:30:24 > 0:30:29- Hats off to you. That's a bit better than I expected. I thought... - You'd go UK.
0:30:29 > 0:30:31Thank you. That's peace of mind for us.
0:30:32 > 0:30:35Thumbs up to Australia, and we'll work on that one.
0:30:35 > 0:30:37Yeah.
0:30:37 > 0:30:40- You can try.- OK.
0:30:48 > 0:30:51Lynn Horn had dreamt of living in Australia since she was a child...
0:30:53 > 0:30:55..but their week in Adelaide raised big worries
0:30:55 > 0:30:58about whether they could afford to go.
0:31:00 > 0:31:03Just realising that it might not ever happen.
0:31:05 > 0:31:09Once year on, could Lynn decide between splitting up her family
0:31:09 > 0:31:10and giving up on her dream?
0:31:11 > 0:31:14At the end of their week down under,
0:31:14 > 0:31:18the Horns were within touching distance of a move to Australia,
0:31:18 > 0:31:21but with Kirsty still worried about leaving home,
0:31:21 > 0:31:24a huge question mark hung over their future.
0:31:24 > 0:31:27So, one year on, we caught up with them
0:31:27 > 0:31:29to find out if anything's changed.
0:31:31 > 0:31:35It's autumn 2011, and after their experiences down under,
0:31:35 > 0:31:38the family are still living in Herne Bay in Kent.
0:31:39 > 0:31:41So, what's happened since we last saw them?
0:31:41 > 0:31:46And do they still feel the same way about life in Australia?
0:31:46 > 0:31:48The trip to Australia was amazing.
0:31:48 > 0:31:53It opened our eyes and it just showed us the life that we could have.
0:31:53 > 0:31:55- Just the lifestyle, in general, wasn't it?- Yeah.
0:31:55 > 0:31:58Just convinced us that that's definitely what we want to do.
0:31:58 > 0:32:02Unfortunately, you know, we applied when the recession kicked in
0:32:02 > 0:32:07in the UK, and we just watched our finances crumble.
0:32:07 > 0:32:10So, the budget we wanted to go with...
0:32:10 > 0:32:13we've just seen disappear.
0:32:13 > 0:32:15Ideally, we would've loved to
0:32:15 > 0:32:17have come back, sorted everything and gone.
0:32:17 > 0:32:19But in reality, you can't always do that,
0:32:19 > 0:32:22and it was a bit of an anticlimax, cos you had to come back
0:32:22 > 0:32:26and then sip back into your old jobs and your old way of life.
0:32:26 > 0:32:28Kirsty's now left school.
0:32:28 > 0:32:30She then went and got a job,
0:32:30 > 0:32:32Christopher's still working down at the golf club,
0:32:32 > 0:32:34but he's now doing an NVQ.
0:32:34 > 0:32:37So, I think life has just gone on.
0:32:37 > 0:32:39We've sort of been on hold for a few months,
0:32:39 > 0:32:42purely because of the financial situation.
0:32:42 > 0:32:46And just out of the blue, someone's offered to buy my business,
0:32:46 > 0:32:49or has made me an offer for the business,
0:32:49 > 0:32:53which really has given us the golden ticket to go to Australia.
0:32:53 > 0:32:55But once the guy did make the offer for the business,
0:32:55 > 0:33:00we then approached Christopher and Kirsty, and that's when...
0:33:00 > 0:33:04Yeah, that's when it all kicked off with the emotions with them,
0:33:04 > 0:33:08finding out their true decisions of whether they wanted to go or not.
0:33:08 > 0:33:11Selling Andy's business has opened the door
0:33:11 > 0:33:13to emigrating down under all over again.
0:33:13 > 0:33:16And there have been more big changes at home for Kirsty,
0:33:16 > 0:33:19after the break-up of her relationship with Calum.
0:33:19 > 0:33:23I voted undecided because of the boyfriend I was with.
0:33:23 > 0:33:26But as soon as I split up with my boyfriend,
0:33:26 > 0:33:28I was ready to go to Australia, straight away.
0:33:28 > 0:33:31Since then, it's changed and it was...
0:33:31 > 0:33:34well, it was my brother that was undecisive,
0:33:34 > 0:33:37because he got a girlfriend.
0:33:37 > 0:33:39Yeah, and it's just flipped.
0:33:39 > 0:33:42We started seeing each other just before we went to Adelaide,
0:33:42 > 0:33:4518 months ago now.
0:33:45 > 0:33:50- Yeah, yeah.- Bit more than that. I was a bit worried about...
0:33:50 > 0:33:52Mum and Dad giving up their lives here,
0:33:52 > 0:33:57cos my mum's got her perfect job and Dad's got his own business
0:33:57 > 0:34:00and they've got a house and, I mean, they're sorted, really.
0:34:00 > 0:34:02Um...
0:34:02 > 0:34:04But they'd be giving up all of that...
0:34:04 > 0:34:06just to move somewhere else
0:34:06 > 0:34:08and I thought that was a bit too much at the time, but...
0:34:08 > 0:34:13And then...leaving Olivia, I didn't want to do that.
0:34:13 > 0:34:16As one relationship ended, another seemed to leave the Horns
0:34:16 > 0:34:21in exactly the same situation they faced in Australia.
0:34:21 > 0:34:25We all had a long chat, just talked about everything, really,
0:34:25 > 0:34:28to do with the whole move. Just...
0:34:28 > 0:34:30Yeah, it was a long discussion.
0:34:30 > 0:34:32Um... Very long discussion.
0:34:32 > 0:34:37Well, Mum and Dad just wanted us to say yes, basically.
0:34:37 > 0:34:39Erm...
0:34:39 > 0:34:43I wanted... I was undecisive at the meeting...
0:34:43 > 0:34:45erm, because I wanted to go,
0:34:45 > 0:34:48but I didn't believe it would actually happen.
0:34:48 > 0:34:51Purely because the trip out to Australia was like a dream.
0:34:51 > 0:34:53And Chris just said he didn't want to go,
0:34:53 > 0:34:55and that was hard for all of us,
0:34:55 > 0:34:58because it's either all of us going out there or none of us.
0:34:58 > 0:35:00Chris was adamant he wanted to stay in the UK...
0:35:01 > 0:35:03..because of the girlfriend issue.
0:35:03 > 0:35:06There probably were a couple of other issues as well, but...
0:35:06 > 0:35:12we threw the wild card at him, like a blackmail card, at the very end,
0:35:12 > 0:35:14and said, "Look, you do know if you stay here,
0:35:14 > 0:35:18"you are destroying Lynn's dreams."
0:35:18 > 0:35:20And, er...
0:35:20 > 0:35:24Well, it made him realise that if he didn't want to come with us,
0:35:24 > 0:35:26that we just basically wouldn't go.
0:35:26 > 0:35:29It's quite upsetting for all of us, really, but...
0:35:29 > 0:35:33I think it's done some good for us all,
0:35:33 > 0:35:37cos we told each other how we felt about the move, and...
0:35:37 > 0:35:39kind of cleared the air a bit.
0:35:39 > 0:35:43It looked as if a move down under was back at square one
0:35:43 > 0:35:45but, as it turned out,
0:35:45 > 0:35:49facing their true feelings may have been exactly what the Horns needed.
0:35:49 > 0:35:52There were lots of tears, and then he...
0:35:52 > 0:35:56We came up with the solution of possibly asking Olivia
0:35:56 > 0:35:58and seeing if she wanted to come out with us.
0:35:58 > 0:36:02And that seemed to sort of sway him the other way, so...
0:36:02 > 0:36:05And then he made the decision that he wanted to come.
0:36:05 > 0:36:08I'm more than happy that Olivia's coming with us -
0:36:08 > 0:36:10it's like an extra bonus for us.
0:36:10 > 0:36:13You know, not only is our dream back on, but...
0:36:13 > 0:36:16you know, with Christopher taking out his girlfriend as well,
0:36:16 > 0:36:18it's going to be great, I think.
0:36:18 > 0:36:20I feel excited about it.
0:36:20 > 0:36:24At the same time, I feel very nervous leaving my mum
0:36:24 > 0:36:27and everything that I've known behind.
0:36:27 > 0:36:30But at the same time, it's a good quality of life out there -
0:36:30 > 0:36:33it's something that you can only experience once
0:36:33 > 0:36:35and I'd like to give it a go.
0:36:42 > 0:36:46After a big turnaround, the whole Horn family
0:36:46 > 0:36:48are now well and truly on board with the move.
0:36:48 > 0:36:52All that's holding them back is the small matter of affording it.
0:36:52 > 0:36:54It is still about the finance.
0:36:54 > 0:36:58Obviously if the business sells and then the house sells, we can go.
0:36:58 > 0:36:59That's simple as. Um...
0:36:59 > 0:37:03But we've come up with compromises that if the house doesn't sell,
0:37:03 > 0:37:06we can rent the house out and we can still go.
0:37:06 > 0:37:10Um, the crux of the matter was, obviously, Andy selling his business.
0:37:10 > 0:37:14So, as long as that one goes OK then we can still go.
0:37:14 > 0:37:1618 months ago, the work was very slack
0:37:16 > 0:37:19and the price of the business was dipping and dipping.
0:37:19 > 0:37:24But now it's picking up again, I've got this potential buyer, so if all goes well...
0:37:24 > 0:37:28We're obviously not going to get the money we want for the business,
0:37:28 > 0:37:30but...it is still an offer
0:37:30 > 0:37:33and it's money that could get us to Australia.
0:37:33 > 0:37:36As soon as we got the buyer for the business on board,
0:37:36 > 0:37:39that sort of seemed to sort of spark everything going again.
0:37:39 > 0:37:42And now it's sort of getting a bit exciting,
0:37:42 > 0:37:44cos the house is going to go on the market and, you know,
0:37:44 > 0:37:47everybody's all positive about it, so that's really good.
0:37:47 > 0:37:49I can't get excited yet.
0:37:49 > 0:37:52You've got to be reserved with your emotions, I think.
0:37:52 > 0:37:54Until you've actually seen the signatures,
0:37:54 > 0:37:59you've got the finances there and you've got the flights all booked,
0:37:59 > 0:38:01THEN I'll start getting excited.
0:38:01 > 0:38:05Selling his glazing business is key to the family's hopes,
0:38:05 > 0:38:09but Andy still has concerns about starting all over again.
0:38:09 > 0:38:10In the back of my mind,
0:38:10 > 0:38:14I've always had a little doubt about going to Australia,
0:38:14 > 0:38:17how it's going to affect me once I'm there.
0:38:17 > 0:38:21Am I going to miss this side of the business? I mean, I'm self-employed.
0:38:21 > 0:38:24I can do what I want. If I want to sneak off for a game of golf, I can.
0:38:24 > 0:38:28But if you're working for someone, you can't really do that.
0:38:28 > 0:38:31So, I think I will miss that side.
0:38:31 > 0:38:34Despite the worries, moving plans are now well under way,
0:38:34 > 0:38:37and the Horns CAN see a future in Australia.
0:38:37 > 0:38:40You know, the dreams have sort of...
0:38:41 > 0:38:43..come true a bit.
0:38:43 > 0:38:48But it's still six months till we could be going, and possibly more.
0:38:48 > 0:38:51It has been frustrating, because I've left school.
0:38:51 > 0:38:56I can't go to uni, because I'll be leaving halfway through the year.
0:38:56 > 0:38:59But you can't speed up,
0:38:59 > 0:39:03like, the selling of a house or the selling of a business.
0:39:03 > 0:39:04It just goes as it goes.
0:39:04 > 0:39:07It's very frustrating sometimes.
0:39:07 > 0:39:11We keep thinking about Australia and Adelaide. I can't wait to get out there,
0:39:11 > 0:39:15so I hope everything goes well this end, so we can get out there.
0:39:20 > 0:39:24The sale of the business is a big step towards the dream,
0:39:24 > 0:39:27but there's still another financial obstacle
0:39:27 > 0:39:30barring the road to Australia - selling the family home.
0:39:30 > 0:39:33And with a local estate agent due to value the property,
0:39:33 > 0:39:35today could be make or break.
0:39:35 > 0:39:39- Right, this is the main bedroom. - Right, fantastic.
0:39:39 > 0:39:41This room's great. OK.
0:39:41 > 0:39:45- Onwards we go.- We've got the bathroom.- Bathroom next?- Yeah.
0:39:45 > 0:39:47It's still the original suite, there, isn't it?
0:39:47 > 0:39:49But you can't go wrong with white.
0:39:49 > 0:39:50Bedroom three.
0:39:50 > 0:39:52Still a decent single size.
0:39:52 > 0:39:54Onwards we go. Number two.
0:39:56 > 0:39:58- That's all three.- OK.
0:39:58 > 0:40:01- Right. Downstairs cloakroom?- Yeah.
0:40:01 > 0:40:04And that's obviously got all the fuses and...
0:40:05 > 0:40:09- Right, kitchen. Gas hob here. - Yes. Electric.
0:40:09 > 0:40:12- Electric oven and extractor hood. - Yes, all clean!- Clean oven!
0:40:12 > 0:40:15Marvellous. Right, back to the main room?
0:40:15 > 0:40:17Then the conservatory after that.
0:40:18 > 0:40:21Now, you did this conservatory, didn't you, Andy?
0:40:21 > 0:40:23Yes, I did. With a little bit of help.
0:40:23 > 0:40:26And into the conservatory.
0:40:26 > 0:40:30The Horns believe their home is worth £175,000.
0:40:30 > 0:40:34But with their future plans depending on the outcome,
0:40:34 > 0:40:36will the estate agent agree?
0:40:36 > 0:40:39Great house. I want you to feel confident about this property
0:40:39 > 0:40:42coming on to the market, and valuation-wise...
0:40:42 > 0:40:45the value for this property will be 170 to 175.
0:40:46 > 0:40:48- OK.- And should you require,
0:40:48 > 0:40:52or want to go down plan B, which is the rental option,
0:40:52 > 0:40:55you should be able to realise,
0:40:55 > 0:40:58in this current climate, £800 per calendar month.
0:40:58 > 0:41:01- There you go.- That's really good. - That is good news.- Yeah.
0:41:01 > 0:41:05- Yeah, that's good news on plan A AND plan B.- I think so.
0:41:05 > 0:41:07- Yeah, thank you very much. - You're welcome.
0:41:07 > 0:41:10- I'll speak to you soon. Thanks again.- Thank you.
0:41:10 > 0:41:13That's exactly what Lynn and Andy were hoping to hear.
0:41:13 > 0:41:15- That was very good news. - It was, wasn't it?
0:41:15 > 0:41:19Yeah, that price range - 170, 175, that's...
0:41:19 > 0:41:20That's what we wanted, wasn't it?
0:41:20 > 0:41:24- So, we're happy with that, aren't we? - A confidence booster.- Yeah.
0:41:24 > 0:41:25- More than happy with that.- Yeah.
0:41:30 > 0:41:33With the final piece of the puzzle falling into place,
0:41:33 > 0:41:37Lynn's dream of moving to Australia seems to be finally within reach.
0:41:37 > 0:41:40We've been waiting for it for about two or three years now.
0:41:40 > 0:41:41It's very exciting.
0:41:41 > 0:41:43It is. Very, very exciting.
0:41:44 > 0:41:47But scary at the same time. People think it is really easy.
0:41:47 > 0:41:52Especially once you've experienced the life, there's no comparison.
0:41:52 > 0:41:55But there are still a lot of ties that are pulling us this way,
0:41:55 > 0:41:58even though we've made the decision that we want to go.
0:41:58 > 0:42:01Leaving family and friends, I think, is definitely the hardest part.
0:42:01 > 0:42:04Especially for Olivia, cos she's going to be joining my family,
0:42:04 > 0:42:08- and leaving her whole family, really, aren't you?- Yeah.
0:42:08 > 0:42:13It is a huge step, just leaving everything I've known behind.
0:42:13 > 0:42:15But you have to take risks
0:42:15 > 0:42:18and it's a risk that I'm willing to take, really.
0:42:18 > 0:42:23Australia can provide a great place for my kids to grow up,
0:42:23 > 0:42:26and their kids to grow up, whereas here, it's...
0:42:26 > 0:42:28There's nothing here for us.
0:42:28 > 0:42:32Even though we've got a lot to leave behind this side...
0:42:32 > 0:42:37we know we've got a lot more to get the other side of the world.
0:42:37 > 0:42:40In life, you've got to grab what you can.
0:42:40 > 0:42:43And if that dream's there for us then go for it.
0:42:48 > 0:42:52A move to Australia seems closer than ever for the Horn family.
0:42:52 > 0:42:56There's still a little work to do before they can fire up the barbie,
0:42:56 > 0:42:59but the future they dreamt of looks to be in sight.
0:42:59 > 0:43:02We wish them the very best of luck.
