0:00:05 > 0:00:08Choosing to emigrate halfway around the world
0:00:08 > 0:00:10can risk splitting your family in two,
0:00:10 > 0:00:15and in 2011, the Coe family were faced with exactly that prospect,
0:00:15 > 0:00:19as they decided whether to make the life-changing move to New Zealand.
0:00:19 > 0:00:23One year on, we're catching up with them to find out what happened next.
0:00:23 > 0:00:27The Coes' first attempt to move to New Zealand
0:00:27 > 0:00:29almost ended in disaster.
0:00:29 > 0:00:31It nearly broke our marriage.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33We didn't speak for about six months.
0:00:33 > 0:00:37And would another re-open old wounds?
0:00:37 > 0:00:40You're not thinking straight.
0:00:40 > 0:00:41- I am.- No, you're not.
0:00:41 > 0:00:43With so much at stake,
0:00:43 > 0:00:46have they been able to go through with it this time?
0:00:46 > 0:00:50If times are hard, it's a strain on any relationship,
0:00:50 > 0:00:52you know, so we'll just have to see.
0:00:52 > 0:00:54Let's hope times will be better for us.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20In 2011, the Coe family faced
0:01:20 > 0:01:23one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
0:01:23 > 0:01:27After a week experiencing life in New Zealand, they had to choose
0:01:27 > 0:01:30whether to stay in the UK or to make the move for good.
0:01:30 > 0:01:32Today, we're revisiting them
0:01:32 > 0:01:35to find out what's happened since we last met.
0:01:37 > 0:01:41After 12,000 miles and a gruelling 24 hours in the air,
0:01:41 > 0:01:45the Coes touch down in Wellington, tired but excited.
0:01:46 > 0:01:49I hope this week we might be able to, you know,
0:01:49 > 0:01:53sort of really be proactive and really give it a go.
0:01:55 > 0:01:58I'm looking optimistic for a job, and hopefully I'll find something
0:01:58 > 0:02:00and hopefully I'll stay.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04'I feel really ready to go.'
0:02:06 > 0:02:11In 2011, the Coe family lived in Clacton-on-Sea in Essex.
0:02:11 > 0:02:15Sharon and Justin, then aged 46,
0:02:15 > 0:02:17were parents to 21-year-old Samantha,
0:02:17 > 0:02:1918-year-old Ashley
0:02:19 > 0:02:21and Jeremy, who was 14.
0:02:21 > 0:02:24Justin had his own carpentry business
0:02:24 > 0:02:27and Sharon had recently qualified as an accounting technician.
0:02:27 > 0:02:31For years, Justin dreamt of moving his family
0:02:31 > 0:02:33for a better life in New Zealand.
0:02:33 > 0:02:35After some initial reluctance,
0:02:35 > 0:02:38Sharon was soon caught up with the romance of the idea.
0:02:38 > 0:02:41My initial thoughts about moving to New Zealand
0:02:41 > 0:02:43were I was a bit upset about leaving my mum,
0:02:43 > 0:02:46but then it became a bit of an adventure
0:02:46 > 0:02:48and I've got into this adventure
0:02:48 > 0:02:50and I just want to be in New Zealand.
0:02:50 > 0:02:54In 2009, with their bags packed and visas stamped,
0:02:54 > 0:02:58the Coes were all set for a new life in New Zealand
0:02:58 > 0:03:00until Justin dropped a bombshell.
0:03:00 > 0:03:02One morning, I woke up in bed
0:03:02 > 0:03:05and Justin came and sat on the edge of the bed
0:03:05 > 0:03:07and said "I don't want to move to New Zealand."
0:03:07 > 0:03:10That's literally his first words of how he broke it to me
0:03:10 > 0:03:12that he didn't want to go to New Zealand.
0:03:12 > 0:03:15He just sat on the edge of the bed and said, "I don't want to go."
0:03:15 > 0:03:19I was told that there were no employment prospects for me
0:03:19 > 0:03:23because they were only going to employ locals and so on.
0:03:23 > 0:03:26I sort of got cold feet right at the last minute.
0:03:26 > 0:03:28Well, the week before we flew.
0:03:28 > 0:03:32So I cancelled the tickets and decided to stay in the UK.
0:03:32 > 0:03:34It nearly broke our marriage.
0:03:34 > 0:03:37We didn't speak for about six months.
0:03:37 > 0:03:38After the recession,
0:03:38 > 0:03:41the situation in the UK had been made even worse.
0:03:41 > 0:03:43'Work's been hit and miss.'
0:03:43 > 0:03:45The phone hardly ever rings.
0:03:45 > 0:03:48You know, I can probably count on one hand
0:03:48 > 0:03:52how many times I stay at home as opposed to go to work.
0:03:52 > 0:03:54It's been really, really hard.
0:03:54 > 0:03:58I lost my job last year and we've just literally had no income.
0:03:58 > 0:04:02Coming from a very vibrant family with enough money to cover you,
0:04:02 > 0:04:05we've gone down to having virtually nothing.
0:04:05 > 0:04:07We're living hand to mouth.
0:04:07 > 0:04:11Money comes in and by the end of the month, the bank account's empty.
0:04:11 > 0:04:15With their age against them and only a year left on their visa,
0:04:15 > 0:04:18it was Sharon's final hope of convincing him
0:04:18 > 0:04:20their future together lay down under.
0:04:22 > 0:04:24I still feel a bit let down.
0:04:24 > 0:04:26I'm still wondering whether or not
0:04:26 > 0:04:28he's actually going to come out and stay with me.
0:04:28 > 0:04:33But it wasn't only Justin who was in two minds about emigrating.
0:04:33 > 0:04:35Daughter Samantha was at university
0:04:35 > 0:04:38and wasn't sure if moving was right for her.
0:04:38 > 0:04:41I'm 21, I've got a lot of things here,
0:04:41 > 0:04:44and also education is really important at the moment for me.
0:04:44 > 0:04:47I might not like the universities out there.
0:04:47 > 0:04:50And, erm... it's just quite difficult.
0:04:50 > 0:04:54Sharon and Justin hoped New Zealand would give their sons
0:04:54 > 0:04:56a better quality of life,
0:04:56 > 0:04:59especially Ashley, who suffered from autism.
0:04:59 > 0:05:02I'd like the boys to have more sports in their lives
0:05:02 > 0:05:05because here they don't do many sports, they just sit at home on their computers.
0:05:05 > 0:05:09Whereas in New Zealand, they seem to like the snowboarding.
0:05:09 > 0:05:11I'm hoping to get them into other sports as well,
0:05:11 > 0:05:16which will get them off their backsides and doing something.
0:05:16 > 0:05:19They faced a massive decision.
0:05:19 > 0:05:23One that could have also decided the future of their marriage.
0:05:23 > 0:05:26In my mind, yes, I'm going and I'm staying.
0:05:26 > 0:05:27My two boys will stay with me.
0:05:27 > 0:05:30For me, it's now or never.
0:05:30 > 0:05:33It's just that choice in life, you know.
0:05:33 > 0:05:36So, it is the last chance.
0:05:41 > 0:05:45The Coes visited Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand,
0:05:45 > 0:05:48a popular, but expensive, destination for Brits.
0:05:48 > 0:05:52Were the family going to be in for a shock?
0:05:52 > 0:05:56They stayed in a modern apartment in the heart of the city,
0:05:56 > 0:05:58but what was Justin's reaction?
0:05:58 > 0:06:01This looks a little bit different, doesn't it?
0:06:01 > 0:06:04Different to what we've got back at home, isn't it?
0:06:08 > 0:06:11Oh, this is nice. I like that.
0:06:11 > 0:06:14Sharon, make some tea. I'll be watching TV.
0:06:14 > 0:06:17- No, you make the tea!- Can we work out how to put heating on?
0:06:17 > 0:06:19I thought I'd come to a semi-tropical island.
0:06:19 > 0:06:22It's really cold here, isn't it?
0:06:22 > 0:06:26And it wasn't just the apartment that left him cold.
0:06:26 > 0:06:28I would say, from what I've seen,
0:06:28 > 0:06:32it's not quite what it is on the postcards or the internet.
0:06:32 > 0:06:35It does look a little bit run-down to me.
0:06:35 > 0:06:38For a capital city, I'm very surprised at that.
0:06:38 > 0:06:42And Justin's worries had Sharon concerned.
0:06:42 > 0:06:45It's playing on my mind quite a lot that he might not want to stay here.
0:06:45 > 0:06:48And I really want to stay here.
0:06:54 > 0:06:57In the UK, the Coe family had a four-bedroom detached house
0:06:57 > 0:07:00in Clacton-on-Sea in Essex.
0:07:00 > 0:07:03It was on the market for £185,000.
0:07:03 > 0:07:09They had strong ideas of what they wanted from their ideal home.
0:07:09 > 0:07:14I guess my dream house would be a property that looks over a lake
0:07:14 > 0:07:17or over the sea, because I've always lived near the water
0:07:17 > 0:07:20and I think a changing view is fantastic.
0:07:20 > 0:07:22The ideal house I'd like is I wouldn't want one
0:07:22 > 0:07:24that's right in the town centre.
0:07:24 > 0:07:27I'd like something slightly out in the suburbs.
0:07:27 > 0:07:29It's got to have enough bedrooms,
0:07:29 > 0:07:31because my boys like their own rooms.
0:07:31 > 0:07:33Just one with a bit more space.
0:07:35 > 0:07:37We arranged for the Coes to get a taste
0:07:37 > 0:07:40of Wellington's housing market. We showed them three options
0:07:40 > 0:07:44based upon what they wanted, what they could afford
0:07:44 > 0:07:47and the real price of property down under.
0:07:47 > 0:07:52Only after checking out each home would the family discover its price.
0:07:52 > 0:07:55First stop was at a four-bedroom house
0:07:55 > 0:07:58in the popular Paraparaumu area, 45 minutes
0:07:58 > 0:08:01from the centre of Wellington.
0:08:01 > 0:08:05The house could offer them plenty of space, if they could get inside.
0:08:06 > 0:08:12This must be the way in. Can't be, can it?
0:08:12 > 0:08:15Yep, that's the way in.
0:08:15 > 0:08:17Well if it is, it's a climb round, isn't it?
0:08:19 > 0:08:22Justin was struggling to see the potential in the house.
0:08:23 > 0:08:26At first I thought this was a do-up,
0:08:26 > 0:08:28but people were actually living in it.
0:08:28 > 0:08:33It's quite surprising, because I wouldn't live like this. Would you?
0:08:33 > 0:08:34No.
0:08:34 > 0:08:38However, upstairs there was a big plus for Sharon.
0:08:38 > 0:08:42- You can see real fantastic views.- Yeah.
0:08:42 > 0:08:44It reminds me so much of Clacton.
0:08:44 > 0:08:46- No, it doesn't. - No, that's true. It doesn't.
0:08:46 > 0:08:51And there was a dream feature for Justin too. Well, sort of.
0:08:51 > 0:08:53I've always wanted to put that into a house.
0:08:53 > 0:08:55- A laundry chute?- Yeah.
0:08:55 > 0:08:57- That saves a lot of time. - Doesn't it?
0:08:57 > 0:09:00- That's brilliant. - Straight into the washing machine.
0:09:00 > 0:09:03The house is sold. Just with that, it's fantastic.
0:09:03 > 0:09:08Despite all the space inside, the views and the laundry chute,
0:09:08 > 0:09:10had the house convinced anyone?
0:09:10 > 0:09:12- Could you see yourself living here? - No.
0:09:12 > 0:09:15Well, that was that sorted.
0:09:15 > 0:09:17The house hadn't won them over,
0:09:17 > 0:09:20but what about its cost? With New Zealand property prices
0:09:20 > 0:09:22rising so much in recent years,
0:09:22 > 0:09:25could they even afford it?
0:09:29 > 0:09:31£194,000
0:09:31 > 0:09:34or 380,000
0:09:34 > 0:09:37- is sort of almost at the top of the budget.- Yeah.
0:09:37 > 0:09:40I would definitely want a garden
0:09:40 > 0:09:42if I was paying that kind of money.
0:09:42 > 0:09:46It makes me think that although this is a much larger house,
0:09:46 > 0:09:49my little house is nicer
0:09:49 > 0:09:52because it's all done up and how we want it.
0:09:52 > 0:09:55- And you can get through the front door.- Yeah.
0:09:55 > 0:09:57It was a setback for Sharon.
0:09:57 > 0:10:00Convincing Justin to leave Essex
0:10:00 > 0:10:03would be even tougher if this was all they could afford.
0:10:03 > 0:10:06Perhaps the second property would fare better?
0:10:06 > 0:10:09It was a four-bedroom house in the Paremata area,
0:10:09 > 0:10:12close to the centre of Wellington, which was good for work.
0:10:12 > 0:10:15Hopefully it had a better build quality for Justin...
0:10:15 > 0:10:18- It's nice.- Looks like it's made of plywood, though.
0:10:18 > 0:10:20..or not.
0:10:20 > 0:10:24Inside though, it was a very different story.
0:10:24 > 0:10:28- This is much cosier.- Wow, lovely.
0:10:30 > 0:10:33This is beautiful. Not in our price range though, is it?
0:10:33 > 0:10:35Better go and find some more money then.
0:10:35 > 0:10:37Yeah. Got to work harder, haven't I?
0:10:37 > 0:10:40It's got a more cosy feeling to it.
0:10:40 > 0:10:43That's the log fire, mate.
0:10:46 > 0:10:48This really is a dream home.
0:10:49 > 0:10:51This house was an instant hit
0:10:51 > 0:10:54and it was certainly bigger than they were used to.
0:10:56 > 0:11:00- Wow.- Look at the size of this room. Unbelievable, isn't it?
0:11:00 > 0:11:03- That's as big as Jeremy's bedroom! - Exactly.
0:11:06 > 0:11:08Even the views were bigger.
0:11:08 > 0:11:11- Oh, look at this.- Wow.
0:11:11 > 0:11:15You'd have to take up yodelling for a living.
0:11:15 > 0:11:17Look at that. It's snowing like in the Swiss Alps.
0:11:17 > 0:11:22I don't want it to stay, though. I'd like warm weather.
0:11:22 > 0:11:25Despite the chill, this house had left both Justin and Sharon
0:11:25 > 0:11:27with a warm glow.
0:11:27 > 0:11:31And the children seem to have had a change of heart too.
0:11:31 > 0:11:34I think it's quite nice. I just love how it looks
0:11:34 > 0:11:36and the feeling you get from it.
0:11:36 > 0:11:39- We love it.- It's amazing!
0:11:42 > 0:11:45The house looked like a genuine dream for the Coes.
0:11:45 > 0:11:49But was it within their £200,000 budget?
0:11:52 > 0:11:55- How much is it?- A million quid? - No, it's not!
0:11:55 > 0:11:58No. £330,000.
0:11:58 > 0:12:00That's still out of your price range.
0:12:00 > 0:12:04I just think it is within our grasp if we both work hard.
0:12:04 > 0:12:07We do work hard and I think we can still achieve this.
0:12:07 > 0:12:10You're not thinking straight, you know.
0:12:10 > 0:12:12- I am.- No, you're not.
0:12:12 > 0:12:15I'm sorry, you're just looking at it with, you know...
0:12:15 > 0:12:17Because this is what you want.
0:12:17 > 0:12:19Yeah.
0:12:19 > 0:12:21Yeah, but it's not going to happen.
0:12:21 > 0:12:25Ouch! It wasn't just the weather that had turned frosty.
0:12:25 > 0:12:28It was definitely time to move on to the next property.
0:12:28 > 0:12:33The third house was in the coastal village of Raumati South.
0:12:33 > 0:12:35The big, open plan living area
0:12:35 > 0:12:37would have given them plenty of space inside.
0:12:37 > 0:12:42It had views that Sharon loved, but it did need some TLC.
0:12:47 > 0:12:49This has got a nice view, from this room.
0:12:49 > 0:12:51It's not a bad sized room.
0:12:51 > 0:12:54This property is a little bit closer to the city,
0:12:54 > 0:12:57- which is a good thing.- Yeah. - Again, it needs work.
0:12:57 > 0:13:00That's the thing.
0:13:00 > 0:13:04It's not a bad property. I think the gardens are nice.
0:13:04 > 0:13:08It's got a lot of ground. Whereas, the others haven't had quite as much ground.
0:13:08 > 0:13:11Again, the glass was half full for Sharon
0:13:11 > 0:13:14but did the price of this house come as a surprise?
0:13:19 > 0:13:21£235,000...
0:13:21 > 0:13:25- You would have to spend a good £50,000...- To bring it up, yeah.
0:13:25 > 0:13:27To bring it up to standard.
0:13:27 > 0:13:30That meant, in total, the house could end up
0:13:30 > 0:13:34£100,000 over their budget.
0:13:34 > 0:13:37It had been a tough day viewing all three properties,
0:13:37 > 0:13:40with none of them really making the grade. So how did they vote?
0:13:42 > 0:13:45Based on the properties that we've looked at today, our vote goes to...
0:13:48 > 0:13:50- England.- New Zealand!
0:13:53 > 0:13:55- What did you do that for? - There was one nice house
0:13:55 > 0:13:58but you've got to look at all the others that we looked at.
0:13:58 > 0:14:01I think the New Zealand properties are better.
0:14:01 > 0:14:04So, you all went... Well, Jeremy might be on my side.
0:14:04 > 0:14:06He's sick and tired of living in a cupboard!
0:14:06 > 0:14:10If Justin really couldn't see himself in a New Zealand house,
0:14:10 > 0:14:14would it spell the end for Sharon's dream?
0:14:18 > 0:14:21Back home Justin ran his own carpentry business
0:14:21 > 0:14:24but in New Zealand he would have to be employed for two years
0:14:24 > 0:14:26before he could set up on his own.
0:14:26 > 0:14:29A lack of job prospects put an end to the last move,
0:14:29 > 0:14:31and he still had big worries.
0:14:31 > 0:14:33Originally when we looked to emigrating to New Zealand
0:14:33 > 0:14:36there were good business opportunities for me out there
0:14:36 > 0:14:39and a good lifestyle for the family.
0:14:39 > 0:14:43Since the recession, that's hit the construction industry very hard
0:14:43 > 0:14:48so it means those opportunities no longer exist for me, or I don't believe that they do.
0:14:50 > 0:14:51Sharon had lost her job
0:14:51 > 0:14:54as an accounting technician during the recession,
0:14:54 > 0:14:57which left the Coes struggling to make ends meet.
0:14:57 > 0:15:00She was hoping for better luck in New Zealand.
0:15:00 > 0:15:05By the looks of it, prospects are a lot better for me out there, than they are here.
0:15:05 > 0:15:07On this trip I am looking for a job.
0:15:07 > 0:15:09If I find one, then I'll stay.
0:15:10 > 0:15:14We arranged for Justin to spend the day with a local building company.
0:15:14 > 0:15:17Paul Winstanley emigrated from the UK
0:15:17 > 0:15:20and had a thriving renovation business.
0:15:20 > 0:15:24He was quick to address Justin's concerns.
0:15:24 > 0:15:27Would you say there's a plentiful supply of skilled tradesmen to call on here?
0:15:27 > 0:15:31No, I think there's a huge shortage of skills in New Zealand
0:15:31 > 0:15:34and we've got a massive housing shortage looming.
0:15:34 > 0:15:40Going forward, there's going to be massive demand for qualified people.
0:15:40 > 0:15:47That was ideal news, but only if Justin could handle being an employee rather than the boss.
0:15:48 > 0:15:53Across town, Sharon was heading to check on her job prospects.
0:15:53 > 0:15:55Having put family ahead of her career, working down under
0:15:55 > 0:15:58meant a lot more than earning a decent salary.
0:15:58 > 0:16:02I've brought up the kids and done all that sort of thing for now.
0:16:02 > 0:16:06Now I want a career of my own. It isn't just about the money, no,
0:16:06 > 0:16:09it's more to do with that I want something that I can find,
0:16:09 > 0:16:13that I enjoy and can get my teeth into and progress to a higher level.
0:16:13 > 0:16:16She met with recruitment agent, Sharlene Yule,
0:16:16 > 0:16:18but would there be good news?
0:16:18 > 0:16:20Actually, the market's very buoyant.
0:16:20 > 0:16:22There's a lot of work on.
0:16:22 > 0:16:25I see you've got your accounting technician qualification.
0:16:25 > 0:16:30That's recognised here in New Zealand. What you've got, in terms of your skills and experience,
0:16:30 > 0:16:33you can hit the ground running, in terms of work.
0:16:33 > 0:16:37That was promising, so what about the pay?
0:16:37 > 0:16:42The range here in Wellington can be anything between 55,000 and 65,000.
0:16:42 > 0:16:47Which is about 27 to £32,000, which is a lot more than I expected.
0:16:47 > 0:16:50Well, you've got good skills and good experience,
0:16:50 > 0:16:53- you want to be recognised for those. - Thank you.
0:16:53 > 0:16:56Good accounts people are really difficult to find.
0:16:56 > 0:16:59It looked like Sharon's dreams were all coming true.
0:16:59 > 0:17:04There was plenty of work and she could earn more than her and Justin's combined UK salaries.
0:17:04 > 0:17:08That was brilliant because I think I could get myself a job in New Zealand.
0:17:09 > 0:17:11I think I'm staying.
0:17:11 > 0:17:14It looked as if Sharon wouldn't take "no" for an answer now,
0:17:14 > 0:17:17but a cautious Justin still needed some reassuring.
0:17:17 > 0:17:20He had some big questions.
0:17:20 > 0:17:24What sort of money would a tradesman get out here?
0:17:24 > 0:17:30Depending on age and experience, we would offer between 18 and 25.
0:17:30 > 0:17:35- That's an hour.- That's between ten and £12.50 an hour.
0:17:35 > 0:17:37Yes, it's about that.
0:17:38 > 0:17:42- Are you advertising for anyone at the moment?- Yes, we are.
0:17:42 > 0:17:48We've got a huge volume of work to do. We're booked up till March at the moment.
0:17:48 > 0:17:51- Work booked right into next year? - Yeah, it is.
0:17:53 > 0:17:56There's no shortage of work coming in at the moment.
0:17:56 > 0:17:58That was more good news,
0:17:58 > 0:18:01but would the promise of work and a bigger salary
0:18:01 > 0:18:06compensate Justin for leaving behind everything he'd built up at home?
0:18:06 > 0:18:10Do I carry on in my own business or do I come out here and start working for somebody?
0:18:10 > 0:18:14That's something I'd find difficult to adjust to.
0:18:14 > 0:18:17So which way did he vote?
0:18:18 > 0:18:20UK.
0:18:20 > 0:18:24No prizes for guessing which way Sharon voted.
0:18:27 > 0:18:28New Zealand!
0:18:28 > 0:18:30It had been quite a day,
0:18:30 > 0:18:34and it looked like there was plenty to talk about back at the apartment.
0:18:35 > 0:18:39- Well, how did you get on? - Really good.- Yeah?- Yeah.
0:18:39 > 0:18:41We're staying here.
0:18:41 > 0:18:45- Oh, that's not so good, then, is it? - Yes, it's brilliant!
0:18:45 > 0:18:50- I reckon I'll get a job, easy. - That's quite promising, isn't it?
0:18:50 > 0:18:56- Knowing I can get work, we've got to move here. - We'll have to discuss that...
0:18:58 > 0:19:02It's going to be hard for me to wrench myself away from the UK.
0:19:04 > 0:19:08But it's not all about me, is it? It's about the family as well.
0:19:08 > 0:19:10- No, that's it.- Yeah.
0:19:11 > 0:19:13We'll see how we go, then.
0:19:13 > 0:19:16But if the weather's like this, I'm not moving out here!
0:19:16 > 0:19:19Even though there was work for both of them in New Zealand,
0:19:19 > 0:19:23Sharon and Justin didn't seem any closer to a decision on their future.
0:19:23 > 0:19:29Sometimes you're being forced into a corner, that you don't want to be in
0:19:29 > 0:19:30and, erm...
0:19:32 > 0:19:35In some ways it's a little bit my fault
0:19:35 > 0:19:38because it was my original idea.
0:19:40 > 0:19:45If Sharon decided to move out here and, obviously, she'll take all the family and so on.
0:19:45 > 0:19:50Well, could I leave all my family and be the only one in the UK?
0:19:50 > 0:19:52I'd have to make a sacrifice.
0:19:56 > 0:20:00Back in the UK, the Coes hoped to raise £185,000
0:20:00 > 0:20:02from the sale of their house.
0:20:02 > 0:20:06We sent round a couple of estate agents to get their opinion.
0:20:06 > 0:20:09If they couldn't get the right price,
0:20:09 > 0:20:12renting it could have been an option, until values rose.
0:20:14 > 0:20:17A good-sized study area, right by the front entrance hall.
0:20:17 > 0:20:18I wish we'd tidied it up a bit!
0:20:18 > 0:20:20LAUGHTER
0:20:24 > 0:20:26That's a nice-sized lounge.
0:20:28 > 0:20:31A very good-sized master bedroom.
0:20:32 > 0:20:36Another reasonable size single bedroom. Very good.
0:20:36 > 0:20:38For the current market conditions,
0:20:38 > 0:20:41I would estimate the property will be worth around £175,000.
0:20:41 > 0:20:43For a quick sale, I would estimate the owners
0:20:43 > 0:20:47would have to take between 165 to 170,000.
0:20:49 > 0:20:55For the current rental market, I'd estimate the property would achieve, £750 to £775 per calendar month.
0:20:55 > 0:20:58For a quick sale, it'd need to be in the low 170s.
0:20:58 > 0:21:01There's a number of similar properties in the local area
0:21:01 > 0:21:05ranging from 150, 160,000 upwards.
0:21:06 > 0:21:11That was more than £15,000 less than the Coes had hoped for.
0:21:11 > 0:21:15I don't think selling it in the present market is an option for us.
0:21:15 > 0:21:22No, we'll just rent it out until the market recovers.
0:21:22 > 0:21:25I think that'll probably be the best option.
0:21:25 > 0:21:29Then, of course, we've still got a home to go back to.
0:21:29 > 0:21:32That sounded like a distinct lack of commitment!
0:21:32 > 0:21:36Maybe the cost of living would make Justin think otherwise.
0:21:36 > 0:21:42We prepared some figures to show them how far their money would go in New Zealand compared to the UK.
0:21:44 > 0:21:51In New Zealand, it looks like we'd be earning £17,000 more than we earn in the UK,
0:21:51 > 0:21:54- which is quite a difference, isn't it?- It is.- Yeah.
0:21:54 > 0:21:58So we've got £3,275 of income. Yeah?
0:22:01 > 0:22:05But your outgoings are 3,679.
0:22:07 > 0:22:10According to these figures... OK?
0:22:10 > 0:22:15- You're not earning enough in the UK for everything. - No. you're right.
0:22:15 > 0:22:18We can't afford to live in the UK,
0:22:18 > 0:22:22and if you got a better salary, let's say your top rate,
0:22:22 > 0:22:25- then you'd actually have spare money to spend.- Yeah.
0:22:25 > 0:22:29Now it's all down on paper, we can see where our money's going.
0:22:29 > 0:22:32I've been cutting the shopping and that's why there isn't much food.
0:22:32 > 0:22:36- There isn't the money to buy it. - That why we've been eating beans.
0:22:36 > 0:22:40Clearly, the Coes would have been better off in New Zealand.
0:22:40 > 0:22:42But did that finally convince Justin?
0:22:42 > 0:22:47Based on the cost of living in New Zealand to the UK, our vote goes to...
0:22:50 > 0:22:52BOTH: New Zealand.
0:22:54 > 0:22:57I'm pleased you did that one.
0:22:57 > 0:23:00Well, it's a lot cheaper to live out here than in the UK.
0:23:00 > 0:23:05- It is.- So you'd have a much better lifestyle and you'd have money to spend on leisure activities.
0:23:05 > 0:23:11At the moment our joint income in the UK can't sustain our living costs.
0:23:11 > 0:23:15We don't have an extravagant lifestyle, it's a basic lifestyle.
0:23:16 > 0:23:20In New Zealand, we could afford to live.
0:23:25 > 0:23:29The Coes had been undecided about their possible future in New Zealand
0:23:29 > 0:23:32and with things looking tougher at home,
0:23:32 > 0:23:35would a life down under have been in their best interests?
0:23:35 > 0:23:39Did seeing messages from home swing their votes yet again?
0:23:39 > 0:23:41Come on, Ash.
0:23:42 > 0:23:45Sharon is kind, caring...
0:23:46 > 0:23:48Very generous.
0:23:48 > 0:23:50To be honest, she's always there for you.
0:23:50 > 0:23:52Justin, I'd say...
0:23:52 > 0:23:55He's quite a joker, isn't he?
0:23:55 > 0:23:59They're a good laugh.
0:23:59 > 0:24:04Our Aunty Sharon would drop anything to come and help us.
0:24:04 > 0:24:09She's quite an unselfish, caring sort of girl,
0:24:09 > 0:24:14spoils everybody around her and always treats everybody.
0:24:14 > 0:24:17- Sharon's always been very close to her mother.- Yeah.
0:24:17 > 0:24:23I'm very surprised that she has decided to do this.
0:24:23 > 0:24:29I think she will miss her mother perhaps more than she realises.
0:24:29 > 0:24:32If I had my way, she wouldn't go.
0:24:32 > 0:24:35Like I say, it's her dream.
0:24:35 > 0:24:36And...
0:24:41 > 0:24:43Don't get upset.
0:24:44 > 0:24:48It's her dream, but I shall miss her something chronic.
0:24:48 > 0:24:51I probably won't see her again, once she goes.
0:24:58 > 0:25:02It'll be like grieving for a lost daughter.
0:25:03 > 0:25:07Well, the boys, as well and Justin...
0:25:09 > 0:25:12No, to me it'll be a big loss.
0:25:14 > 0:25:18You know that we're missing you already and, although it's only been a short while,
0:25:18 > 0:25:23it feels like you could be out there for ever,
0:25:23 > 0:25:25and, you know, we'll miss you.
0:25:27 > 0:25:33Don't get too bowled over by the good life and look at all the aspects.
0:25:35 > 0:25:40If you decide to stay out there, I shall miss you really terribly.
0:25:40 > 0:25:43Whatever you do, look after my boys...
0:25:45 > 0:25:46I can't...
0:25:51 > 0:25:56I think the problem is, it's almost like we're going to die. It's like a bereavement for them.
0:25:56 > 0:26:00If you don't give it a go, the regrets will be there for the rest of your life.
0:26:00 > 0:26:06All those messages are, Sharon wants, Sharon wants. It's everything that you want in life.
0:26:06 > 0:26:10- And, maybe not what all of us want in life.- Yeah.
0:26:11 > 0:26:15I've lived your life, you've had your career.
0:26:15 > 0:26:18You've done everything you've wanted to do.
0:26:18 > 0:26:22And now you've got to give a little way and let me have some.
0:26:22 > 0:26:27We've come so far down the line, that we've got to give it a go
0:26:27 > 0:26:29and see if this is what we want.
0:26:29 > 0:26:34It had been a long week and now it was time to make the final vote.
0:26:34 > 0:26:38It seemed the outcome was once again far from certain.
0:26:39 > 0:26:45It was my idea in the beginning and I wish I didn't have these ideas sometimes.
0:26:45 > 0:26:49I said, at the beginning of the week, it's going to be a make or break situation.
0:26:49 > 0:26:54Maybe I'm the one who's breaking it and that's not fair on Sharon.
0:26:55 > 0:26:57I have been here before.
0:26:57 > 0:26:59Justin does keep chopping and changing his mind,
0:26:59 > 0:27:02but I think this time I can win.
0:27:03 > 0:27:07If Sharon and myself are still split after the vote, where do we go?
0:27:07 > 0:27:11I think...I'd like to sit down with her
0:27:11 > 0:27:15and have a good conversation
0:27:15 > 0:27:18and weigh up the pros and cons and see how we go forwards,
0:27:18 > 0:27:21not only with this decision, but our relationship.
0:27:21 > 0:27:26I really don't know what's going to happen in the end.
0:27:26 > 0:27:29Mum's very stubborn, but I think Dad normally relents,
0:27:29 > 0:27:32but I don't think he'll relent on this. I really don't know.
0:27:32 > 0:27:37With so much on the line, it really was a life-changing decision.
0:27:37 > 0:27:39How did they vote?
0:27:43 > 0:27:45Our final vote goes to...
0:27:51 > 0:27:54- New Zealand.- Undecided.- UK.
0:27:56 > 0:27:58You're still in the minority.
0:27:58 > 0:28:02- You've got an undecided, two undecides. - And two for New Zealand.
0:28:02 > 0:28:05- You two are coming over here. - It looks like two of us are.
0:28:06 > 0:28:10It's been difficult. I nearly went for New Zealand just to keep the peace,
0:28:10 > 0:28:14but I had to vote honestly and say where I'd like to live
0:28:14 > 0:28:17and spend the rest of my days.
0:28:17 > 0:28:19I think it'll be the good old UK.
0:28:21 > 0:28:25As it stands, it looks like me and my eldest son are coming to New Zealand.
0:28:30 > 0:28:34It had been a tough week for the Coes.
0:28:34 > 0:28:39Their experiences of New Zealand had left them divided about where their future lay.
0:28:40 > 0:28:43I caught up with the Coes a month later
0:28:43 > 0:28:45to see if they'd reached an agreement.
0:28:45 > 0:28:49Last time we'd seen Sharon, she had been dead set on moving to New Zealand,
0:28:49 > 0:28:52with or without Justin.
0:28:53 > 0:28:55You haven't changed your mind at all?
0:28:55 > 0:28:58No, I haven't. I still want to live in New Zealand.
0:28:58 > 0:29:02Does it scare you to think you're going to be moving that distance?
0:29:02 > 0:29:06I am absolutely terrified to move that distance away,
0:29:06 > 0:29:10but I've really got to try it. If I don't, it'll always be, "What if?"
0:29:10 > 0:29:12I'm going to have a word with Justin
0:29:12 > 0:29:16- and hear his thoughts on this possible move.- Yeah.
0:29:17 > 0:29:19Justin's heart was firmly in the UK,
0:29:19 > 0:29:22but since the vote, he'd had a lot of time to think.
0:29:24 > 0:29:28What's your final decision, or is there one?
0:29:28 > 0:29:35I think it's still up in the air and watch this space and see where we are in a few months' time.
0:29:35 > 0:29:40I think, ultimately, if Sharon moves out there and took the family with her,
0:29:40 > 0:29:42do you really think I'd stay here?
0:29:42 > 0:29:45No, I don't. I really, really don't.
0:29:45 > 0:29:50I think you would follow her out and, I think, that's what she wants in her heart as well.
0:29:57 > 0:30:01After a tough week in New Zealand, the Coe family were no closer
0:30:01 > 0:30:03to making a decision about their future.
0:30:03 > 0:30:07But was there just a glimmer of hope of Sharon's dream from Justin?
0:30:07 > 0:30:11A year later, we've caught up with them to find out.
0:30:11 > 0:30:16It's June 2012 and the Coe family are all together...
0:30:21 > 0:30:25..in the UK. But that's about to change.
0:30:25 > 0:30:28Our visas are just about to run out.
0:30:28 > 0:30:32We've only got a few weeks left on it, so it's a case of,
0:30:32 > 0:30:36do we go for another try in New Zealand and to get work,
0:30:36 > 0:30:39or do we just let the visas lapse?
0:30:39 > 0:30:41With Sharon more determined than ever,
0:30:41 > 0:30:45the pressure was on Justin to finally make that decision.
0:30:45 > 0:30:49I think Sharon's always decided that she's going to go back to New Zealand whatever, you know.
0:30:49 > 0:30:54But, erm, it's just sort of trying to convince us whether, you know,
0:30:54 > 0:30:58whether we should go out and give it another go.
0:30:59 > 0:31:01So what's it to be?
0:31:02 > 0:31:04You are going anyway, aren't you?
0:31:04 > 0:31:06- Whatever happens, so... - Yes. I'm going.
0:31:06 > 0:31:08So it looks like I've got to go with them.
0:31:08 > 0:31:10With only one week before they fly,
0:31:10 > 0:31:14how did Sharon finally convince Justin
0:31:14 > 0:31:16that New Zealand was a good move for the Coes?
0:31:16 > 0:31:19I've been discussing with Justin for some time
0:31:19 > 0:31:22about returning to New Zealand and I wasn't getting anywhere
0:31:22 > 0:31:28so me and my daughter decided that we would just sit down
0:31:28 > 0:31:32and book the tickets to go to New Zealand.
0:31:32 > 0:31:36I booked them in my name so that he cannot cancel them.
0:31:36 > 0:31:38It's either I stay here on my own or go out with them,
0:31:38 > 0:31:41so it's just giving it that last bash, you know.
0:31:41 > 0:31:45Also, I don't think that we wanted to look back at life and say,
0:31:45 > 0:31:48"If only we'd gone out,
0:31:48 > 0:31:51"maybe our children would have had a better life and so on."
0:31:51 > 0:31:53Having rented out their house in Clacton,
0:31:53 > 0:31:56the whole family have been living with Sharon's mum
0:31:56 > 0:31:59for the past two months.
0:31:59 > 0:32:01We're living with my mum in a two-bedroom bungalow,
0:32:01 > 0:32:04which is very, very cramped so there are six of us
0:32:04 > 0:32:06living in two bedrooms and an attic,
0:32:06 > 0:32:10so it's very tight for space and we haven't got any room for anything
0:32:10 > 0:32:14and my poor old mum can't even get in the bathroom.
0:32:16 > 0:32:19Taking the house off the market was one less worry for Justin.
0:32:19 > 0:32:24I think the thing that's made Justin feel more comfortable
0:32:24 > 0:32:27about going to New Zealand is the fact that we haven't sold the house,
0:32:27 > 0:32:30that it's only rented, and we have not lost the asset
0:32:30 > 0:32:33or the money that we've gained over the years.
0:32:33 > 0:32:36That has made him more comfortable to make the move.
0:32:37 > 0:32:41With the tickets booked and only a few days left until they emigrate,
0:32:41 > 0:32:47Sharon is as excited as ever, while Justin has some familiar concerns.
0:32:47 > 0:32:50I'm very worried about being in this week before we fly
0:32:50 > 0:32:53because he did cancel the flights before.
0:32:53 > 0:32:55We are about the same...
0:32:55 > 0:32:59We've got a week to go before we leave and...
0:33:01 > 0:33:04I wonder if I could just say that maybe it's not such a good idea
0:33:04 > 0:33:06- and... - HE CHUCKLES
0:33:06 > 0:33:08It's not only making the flight that's the big worry
0:33:08 > 0:33:13for both of them, it's also staying put once they've arrived.
0:33:13 > 0:33:17It's always, "When we come back," or, "If..."
0:33:17 > 0:33:20You know, more or less saying that we are going to come back.
0:33:21 > 0:33:24Just not planning too far in the future, you know?
0:33:24 > 0:33:28We'll just go over, see how it is and then...
0:33:28 > 0:33:31And then, if it's good, then we'll carry on.
0:33:31 > 0:33:34If it's not, we'll be back.
0:33:34 > 0:33:37- No, we're not coming back.- No?
0:33:37 > 0:33:40- No, I'm planning to live out there. - Yes.
0:33:42 > 0:33:45Sharon was always convinced the move would help her boys
0:33:45 > 0:33:47lead more active lifestyles
0:33:47 > 0:33:50and this was something that Justin couldn't argue with.
0:33:50 > 0:33:53Towards the end of our trip to New Zealand
0:33:53 > 0:33:55Jeremy, just all of a sudden,
0:33:55 > 0:33:58we were sitting on the plane on the way home in Auckland,
0:33:58 > 0:34:02and he said, "I've changed my mind, I want to stay in New Zealand."
0:34:02 > 0:34:05It does make it a lot easier that everybody seems to want to go
0:34:05 > 0:34:07and give New Zealand a go.
0:34:08 > 0:34:12I think that I've got to go for that, for the children.
0:34:12 > 0:34:15It's, you know, try and make their lives a little bit more successful
0:34:15 > 0:34:19and give them a better future than I could in the UK.
0:34:23 > 0:34:26With the clock ticking, there's been plenty to do,
0:34:26 > 0:34:28for one of the Coes, at least.
0:34:28 > 0:34:31To be fair, Sharon has done pretty much everything,
0:34:31 > 0:34:33packed up the house, moved out
0:34:33 > 0:34:36and I've been very reluctant.
0:34:36 > 0:34:38You know, it's um...
0:34:39 > 0:34:43I think if it was up to me, I would still be dragging my heels.
0:34:44 > 0:34:47So, it's like my life is being packed up for me, which is...
0:34:47 > 0:34:51I don't know if that is good or bad, I'll let you know.
0:34:52 > 0:34:54I've already packed up once to go to New Zealand
0:34:54 > 0:34:57and this is the second time around, so I've packed the boxes,
0:34:57 > 0:35:01unpacked them and repacked them now for the second time,
0:35:01 > 0:35:04so hopefully they won't be unpacked until they get to New Zealand now.
0:35:06 > 0:35:09However Sharon's decision to leave suffered a serious blow
0:35:09 > 0:35:12when her brother passed away suddenly.
0:35:14 > 0:35:18I think at the moment, leaving my mum behind is quite bad
0:35:18 > 0:35:22because of what's been happening in the last three months,
0:35:22 > 0:35:24because she gets very upset and very depressed
0:35:24 > 0:35:27because my brother's just passed, so she is already not in
0:35:27 > 0:35:31a very good state of mind and then with me leaving as well,
0:35:31 > 0:35:34it's like losing two children, rather than just one.
0:35:34 > 0:35:36It has sort of like split the decision,
0:35:36 > 0:35:40am I making the right decision to go? Because of my mum.
0:35:40 > 0:35:44But I think we have gone too far down the road to actually turn back
0:35:44 > 0:35:49at the moment. I think we have got to go and see what it's like.
0:35:50 > 0:35:52Her decision to move to the other side of the world
0:35:52 > 0:35:55was tested further when daughter Samantha decided
0:35:55 > 0:35:58she wouldn't be staying on in the long-term.
0:35:58 > 0:36:01She started a photography degree at Ipswich University,
0:36:01 > 0:36:05a course she plans to complete in the UK.
0:36:05 > 0:36:08Samantha is the only one that's undecided at the moment
0:36:08 > 0:36:10on when she's going to come to New Zealand.
0:36:10 > 0:36:15In the UK, she's got nine months to a year left on her degree.
0:36:16 > 0:36:19I'm going out to New Zealand for two months with my family
0:36:19 > 0:36:22and then I'm going to come back to finish the last year of my degree.
0:36:22 > 0:36:24I'm not sure if I'll go out there once I finish my degree,
0:36:24 > 0:36:27or stay here, it depends where I get work once I finished,
0:36:27 > 0:36:30or if I decide to do postgraduate.
0:36:30 > 0:36:33I'm very glad they've actually made a decision because I felt like
0:36:33 > 0:36:37I'm not really settled anywhere for the last few years because
0:36:37 > 0:36:40they're moving to New Zealand, they're not moving to New Zealand.
0:36:40 > 0:36:41And there are benefits in having
0:36:41 > 0:36:44a family on the other side of the world.
0:36:44 > 0:36:45It just gives me a lot of choice.
0:36:45 > 0:36:49I think so many people are so closed in once they finish their degree,
0:36:49 > 0:36:51I've got a lot of options.
0:36:52 > 0:36:54Samantha isn't the only one hitting the books.
0:36:54 > 0:36:58Justin's continued work shortage inspired him to study
0:36:58 > 0:37:01an accountancy course at Colchester Institute.
0:37:01 > 0:37:03Rather than sort of waste my time,
0:37:03 > 0:37:07I thought it was important that I had a professional qualification
0:37:07 > 0:37:09that I could take across to,
0:37:09 > 0:37:15not only construction industry, but also other industries as well.
0:37:15 > 0:37:18After years of struggling to find work in the UK,
0:37:18 > 0:37:21Justin can see the plus points in a move down under.
0:37:21 > 0:37:24If I found work out there that I enjoyed,
0:37:24 > 0:37:28it would be much easier to settle and carry on working,
0:37:28 > 0:37:31but the main thing I'm optimistic about is the fact that
0:37:31 > 0:37:34we can buy land out there to build a property.
0:37:35 > 0:37:39Now, that would be an amazing thing, if I could do that for my children,
0:37:39 > 0:37:40so when they start in life,
0:37:40 > 0:37:44you know, we can actually build a house to their own specifications.
0:37:44 > 0:37:48I think that would be a really positive thing to do.
0:37:48 > 0:37:50There's always light at the end of the tunnel, you know?
0:37:50 > 0:37:54But it's just whether it's a train coming the other way, or not!
0:37:56 > 0:37:57There's not many around this area.
0:37:57 > 0:38:00With Justin inspired by the thought of building a house,
0:38:00 > 0:38:03they still need a rental property in the meantime.
0:38:03 > 0:38:05Luckily help has been on hand.
0:38:05 > 0:38:09I haven't actually had a lot of time to look on the internet
0:38:09 > 0:38:11and research because I have been packing
0:38:11 > 0:38:14and trying to sort out all of this side of stuff.
0:38:14 > 0:38:17But my daughter is actually doing the research at the moment
0:38:17 > 0:38:19and showing us.
0:38:19 > 0:38:22She's looked and researched all the schools to find out
0:38:22 > 0:38:25the best schools for my son to go to and the colleges,
0:38:25 > 0:38:27she has done all of this for me
0:38:27 > 0:38:31so she has been a real big help and taken some of the pressure off.
0:38:31 > 0:38:34There's only a few days to go until the move.
0:38:34 > 0:38:37Samantha has found them a place to stay,
0:38:37 > 0:38:39but only for the first six weeks.
0:38:39 > 0:38:43We found a very nice rental property in Onslow.
0:38:43 > 0:38:46We could have booked it for longer, but we thought
0:38:46 > 0:38:50by then we'd want our own place and start buying stuff for ourselves.
0:38:50 > 0:38:53So, with the big day ever closer and emotions running high,
0:38:53 > 0:38:58do they finally agree on how they feel about the move?
0:38:58 > 0:39:02I'm feeling excited...nervous...
0:39:02 > 0:39:03all rolled into one.
0:39:05 > 0:39:07I feel sick to my stomach, honest to God.
0:39:07 > 0:39:09It's...
0:39:09 > 0:39:11It's a very...
0:39:12 > 0:39:14It's a very scary thing to do.
0:39:15 > 0:39:19I think once he gets settled and the children are settled,
0:39:19 > 0:39:23mainly if the children are settled, then he'll be settled in his life
0:39:23 > 0:39:26in New Zealand, but it's getting the children settled first.
0:39:28 > 0:39:32Surely Justin can see some positives about living in New Zealand?
0:39:34 > 0:39:38It's just having a comfortable living.
0:39:38 > 0:39:39A nice home.
0:39:39 > 0:39:43A nice home and also having the time to enjoy life.
0:39:43 > 0:39:47Whether it's simple things like going swimming or whatever.
0:39:47 > 0:39:50One of the things on Wellington Harbour is they've got
0:39:50 > 0:39:54a diving board, that's planked out in the summer.
0:39:54 > 0:39:57I'm looking forward to running off that diving board
0:39:57 > 0:40:01and splashing into the sea. And that don't cost you nothing.
0:40:01 > 0:40:04So, if that sort of sums up what life could be like, then,
0:40:04 > 0:40:06it could be fun.
0:40:06 > 0:40:09Justin and Sharon have faced many challenges in the past
0:40:09 > 0:40:12and are looking forward to the future together.
0:40:13 > 0:40:17This year will be our 25th wedding anniversary
0:40:17 > 0:40:20so we wouldn't have stayed together that long
0:40:20 > 0:40:23if this was the only decision.
0:40:23 > 0:40:27If times are hard, it's a strain on any relationship.
0:40:27 > 0:40:31So we just have to see, let's hope that times will be better for us.
0:40:37 > 0:40:39The big day has arrived.
0:40:39 > 0:40:42With bags packed and the family waiting to say their goodbyes,
0:40:42 > 0:40:44it all seems to be happening.
0:40:46 > 0:40:48Surely by now, Justin has come round to the idea.
0:40:48 > 0:40:51I think I'll stay here, it's less stress!
0:40:53 > 0:40:55But at least Sharon seems hopeful.
0:40:55 > 0:40:58I think that Justin will get on the plane and I think he will go.
0:40:58 > 0:41:02I think he has started looking for work and things like that
0:41:02 > 0:41:05so he is getting in the mood to go.
0:41:05 > 0:41:07I'll be very nervous at the airport
0:41:07 > 0:41:11but very, very excited because I'm so looking forward to going.
0:41:13 > 0:41:16All right? See you soon, all right?
0:41:16 > 0:41:19'What's going to go through my mind is what I'm leaving behind.'
0:41:19 > 0:41:22And, I think that on that journey to the airport
0:41:22 > 0:41:26will be all those things of what I'm leaving behind,
0:41:26 > 0:41:28but...yes.
0:41:28 > 0:41:31You've got to be a little bit positive, haven't you?
0:41:31 > 0:41:34And I'm just looking forward...
0:41:34 > 0:41:36I hope things work out well for Sharon
0:41:36 > 0:41:39and everything goes the way that she wants it.
0:41:39 > 0:41:42For me, I don't care what happens to me.
0:41:42 > 0:41:46You know, it's as long as they're all happy,
0:41:46 > 0:41:48that's the most important thing.
0:41:52 > 0:41:55So Justin has made it to the airport
0:41:55 > 0:41:58and appears more positive about what's in store.
0:42:01 > 0:42:04- He'll be OK. - It'll be all right.
0:42:04 > 0:42:08- I'm going to miss my home town and my family.- I'm very excited,
0:42:08 > 0:42:11I just want to get on my journey now cos I like travelling.
0:42:12 > 0:42:14It's the end of a chapter.
0:42:14 > 0:42:17You know, it may be the start of a new chapter.
0:42:21 > 0:42:24Even though Justin still has his doubts,
0:42:24 > 0:42:28the family know that it's time to look forward to a brighter future.
0:42:35 > 0:42:38With all five of them making it onto the plane at last,
0:42:38 > 0:42:40their adventure starts here.
0:42:49 > 0:42:53So, after years of false starts and sleepless nights,
0:42:53 > 0:42:57the Coe family are finally on their way to a new life down under.
0:42:57 > 0:43:00Whatever the future holds, we wish them the best of luck.
