0:00:02 > 0:00:04Travelling in your teens often leaves you
0:00:04 > 0:00:08with a sense of wanderlust, longing for a life in the sun.
0:00:08 > 0:00:13But is it really possible to make the dream your reality years later,
0:00:13 > 0:00:15when you've three children in tow
0:00:15 > 0:00:18and a husband who's far from convinced?
0:00:18 > 0:00:23That was the question Julie Rutland needed answered in 2015.
0:00:23 > 0:00:28One year on, we'll find out where the family are now.
0:00:29 > 0:00:34In 2015, Julie Rutland longed to move her family to Australia.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37I just want to try. I want to follow my dream.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39With a visa already in place,
0:00:39 > 0:00:42she had just one obstacle to clear.
0:00:42 > 0:00:46The only thing that is stopping us is me.
0:00:46 > 0:00:50A trial week opened Dan's eyes to the possibilities...
0:00:50 > 0:00:53If we could afford this house...you've got me in Australia.
0:00:53 > 0:00:56So, one year on, have the family made it
0:00:56 > 0:00:58to the other side of the world?
0:00:58 > 0:01:03Making plans and then sticking to them religiously is, I think,
0:01:03 > 0:01:05heading for disaster because life isn't like that.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32Covering a landmass of almost three million square miles,
0:01:32 > 0:01:35Australia's been hailed a land of opportunity
0:01:35 > 0:01:39ever since the first European settlers arrived back in the 1700s.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42Promising sunshine, beaches and a strong economy,
0:01:42 > 0:01:46the attraction shows little sign of easing up, with latest figures
0:01:46 > 0:01:51showing over 28% of the country's population is born overseas.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56Julie Rutland was on a mission to convince husband Dan
0:01:56 > 0:01:59Australia was where their family belonged.
0:01:59 > 0:02:03However, never having set foot in the country,
0:02:03 > 0:02:06he worried his wife's vision of life down under
0:02:06 > 0:02:10was based entirely on rose-tinted memories.
0:02:10 > 0:02:13Julie had just one week to persuade him,
0:02:13 > 0:02:16once and for all, her dream was one worth chasing.
0:02:17 > 0:02:21The week begins with over 17 hours in the sky,
0:02:21 > 0:02:23flying from London to Australia via Dubai.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28And when they finally land in Perth,
0:02:28 > 0:02:31Julie admits she's thrilled to be back down under.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34I thought I was going to go pop.
0:02:34 > 0:02:37I just can't wait to show them all the beach, the weather,
0:02:37 > 0:02:39the lifestyle and the houses,
0:02:39 > 0:02:41and I think they're all really excited to see it.
0:02:41 > 0:02:43We want to see the new house!
0:02:43 > 0:02:45But after the epic journey,
0:02:45 > 0:02:48there's only one word to sum up how Dan's feeling.
0:02:48 > 0:02:52Tired. I'm feeling very, very tired. It was a long journey.
0:02:52 > 0:02:54Willow agrees.
0:02:54 > 0:02:57I'm tired because I didn't get any sleep.
0:02:57 > 0:03:00But nothing's going to dent Julie's enthusiasm.
0:03:00 > 0:03:01It wasn't that bad!
0:03:01 > 0:03:05I had all three children and you were happily sat there.
0:03:05 > 0:03:07- How many films did you get to watch? - SHE LAUGHS
0:03:07 > 0:03:11Now she's finally got them here, Julie will need to try harder
0:03:11 > 0:03:13if she's to convince Dan to start a new life
0:03:13 > 0:03:15on the other side of the world.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20Meet the Rutlands, from Bicester in Oxfordshire.
0:03:20 > 0:03:22They're dad Dan,
0:03:22 > 0:03:25mum Julie, nine-year-old Zack,
0:03:25 > 0:03:28six-year-old Willow and five-year-old Faye.
0:03:29 > 0:03:30On the whole, life's good,
0:03:30 > 0:03:36but Julie's still reminiscing about time spent in Australia 15 years ago.
0:03:36 > 0:03:38It's got so many wonderful memories.
0:03:38 > 0:03:40I was travelling with two of my best friends.
0:03:40 > 0:03:42We were young, we bought a camper van in Darwin
0:03:42 > 0:03:44and we travelled all round Australia,
0:03:44 > 0:03:47and then we settled in Bondi,
0:03:47 > 0:03:49and, you know, we lived a few roads back from Bondi Beach,
0:03:49 > 0:03:52which was just beautiful.
0:03:52 > 0:03:55Julie reluctantly returned to the UK to go to university,
0:03:55 > 0:03:57and met Dan soon after.
0:03:58 > 0:04:02I suaved into a nightclub, swooped Julie off of her feet
0:04:02 > 0:04:05and that was the end of the story.
0:04:05 > 0:04:08Julie's version of it is probably a little bit different.
0:04:08 > 0:04:11Dan's charm soon bowled Julie over
0:04:11 > 0:04:14and when she secured a job in Formula One,
0:04:14 > 0:04:16the couple moved to Bicester.
0:04:16 > 0:04:18Since becoming parents, Julie's parked her career
0:04:18 > 0:04:20and Dan works as a carpenter.
0:04:20 > 0:04:23But with her previous experience down under,
0:04:23 > 0:04:26Julie dreams of a better life in Australia.
0:04:26 > 0:04:29It's just about the lifestyle, really.
0:04:29 > 0:04:31Go, go. Oh, be careful there, Willow!
0:04:31 > 0:04:34I would just love to live by a beach, a beautiful, sandy beach.
0:04:34 > 0:04:37I just want the children to be able to go for walks,
0:04:37 > 0:04:39and I love the sporty lifestyle.
0:04:39 > 0:04:41We're such an outdoors family.
0:04:42 > 0:04:44Moving to the other side of the world
0:04:44 > 0:04:46wasn't something Dan had ever considered.
0:04:46 > 0:04:48I think the way you brought it up was,
0:04:48 > 0:04:51- "Why don't we move to Australia?" - LAUGHING:- Probably.
0:04:52 > 0:04:55Danny got home from work, and I said to him, "I've had a great idea",
0:04:55 > 0:04:58and he looks at me and rolls his eyes and says,
0:04:58 > 0:04:59"Oh, no, not another one."
0:04:59 > 0:05:03But Julie's determined to make her husband take her seriously,
0:05:03 > 0:05:06and has even secured a visa for the family to emigrate.
0:05:06 > 0:05:08The children are on board.
0:05:08 > 0:05:11All she needs to do now is convince Dan it's the right move.
0:05:14 > 0:05:18The only thing that is stopping us is me.
0:05:18 > 0:05:19Erm, I am the brick wall.
0:05:19 > 0:05:22Desperate to demolish Dan's doubts,
0:05:22 > 0:05:24Julie's applied for jobs for him online,
0:05:24 > 0:05:26and knowing how much he loves fishing,
0:05:26 > 0:05:30she's even tried to reel him in with the promise of a boat.
0:05:30 > 0:05:31JULIE LAUGHS
0:05:31 > 0:05:33Just a little bit, mate. It was just a splash.
0:05:33 > 0:05:36Yeah, I might have hinted that he could have a little boat,
0:05:36 > 0:05:40just a little boat, if he moved near the sea.
0:05:40 > 0:05:43But Dan's not rising to the bait.
0:05:43 > 0:05:47I just wonder whether she's looking through rose-tinted glasses.
0:05:47 > 0:05:50Can we afford to move to Australia? Jobs?
0:05:50 > 0:05:53Obviously with the heat, can you work in the heat?
0:05:53 > 0:05:55Will I be able to earn the same money?
0:05:55 > 0:05:58There's a lot of questions that need answering.
0:05:58 > 0:06:01Dan's also worried about the emotional cost of moving.
0:06:01 > 0:06:05Extremely close to his dad, he's torn at the thought
0:06:05 > 0:06:07of leaving him on his own.
0:06:08 > 0:06:12My dad has always been there for me, without fail, and I think now,
0:06:12 > 0:06:16maybe, at the age Dad is, it's my turn to be there for him.
0:06:19 > 0:06:24If something happened to my dad while I was the other side, I...
0:06:24 > 0:06:26I'd never forgive myself.
0:06:28 > 0:06:30Yeah.
0:06:30 > 0:06:33Julie does understand Dan's emotional ties
0:06:33 > 0:06:38and worries about the impact leaving her own family will have, too.
0:06:38 > 0:06:41I know it will break my mum's heart. I know it will.
0:06:41 > 0:06:42SHE SNIFFS
0:06:42 > 0:06:46And I know it'll break both my sisters' hearts as well.
0:06:46 > 0:06:47SHE SOBS QUIETLY
0:06:50 > 0:06:52SHE SNIFFS
0:06:52 > 0:06:54It makes me feel really selfish.
0:07:00 > 0:07:04Driven by her desire to show Dan and the children the lifestyle
0:07:04 > 0:07:06she truly believes will benefit them,
0:07:06 > 0:07:10and having invested so much time and money into getting a visa,
0:07:10 > 0:07:14Julie's desperate for the chance to make her dream their reality,
0:07:14 > 0:07:18and the next seven days will be her best chance to do it.
0:07:18 > 0:07:21This week in Australia is really finding out about whether the dream
0:07:21 > 0:07:25that Jule has got is achievable for us, whether it's worth moving
0:07:25 > 0:07:30to the other side of the world for and leaving what we've got here.
0:07:30 > 0:07:33I can almost feel it and I really want it for the children
0:07:33 > 0:07:38and I really want it for us and I just want to try.
0:07:38 > 0:07:41I just want to try. I want to follow my dream.
0:07:48 > 0:07:52To find out if Australia's where their future lies,
0:07:52 > 0:07:55the family are visiting Western Australia's capital city, Perth.
0:07:55 > 0:07:58Their base for the week is in Halls Head,
0:07:58 > 0:08:01a costal suburb just over an hour's drive from the city.
0:08:01 > 0:08:05But will Australian living be as good as Julie remembers?
0:08:09 > 0:08:11- Wow, look at that. - That looks very grand, doesn't it?
0:08:11 > 0:08:13Look at the sea!
0:08:13 > 0:08:14Wow!
0:08:14 > 0:08:16That's a proper sea view.
0:08:16 > 0:08:18Despite the dull day,
0:08:18 > 0:08:22Julie is delighted with the beachfront location.
0:08:22 > 0:08:23Wow.
0:08:23 > 0:08:26Now, this is the type of place I would love to live.
0:08:26 > 0:08:28- You should've married a millionaire. - DAN AND JULIE LAUGH
0:08:31 > 0:08:34Back inside, Dan admits he's impressed, too.
0:08:34 > 0:08:36Very, very nice. Very, very nice.
0:08:36 > 0:08:38Yeah.
0:08:38 > 0:08:42Julie casts her mind back to when she last lived in Australia.
0:08:42 > 0:08:45I think there was three of us in a bedroom with bunk beds
0:08:45 > 0:08:47and one bathroom for eight people,
0:08:47 > 0:08:50so, yeah, this is a whole, whole other world.
0:08:50 > 0:08:51It's amazing.
0:08:51 > 0:08:55Fuelled by excitement, the family wastes no time hitting the beach.
0:08:56 > 0:08:59That looks all right, doesn't it? Think they like it?
0:08:59 > 0:09:01I think they love it, don't they? Look at them.
0:09:01 > 0:09:04They've not been here long, but the children are already sold.
0:09:04 > 0:09:06Australia's epic!
0:09:06 > 0:09:08I think Australia's good.
0:09:10 > 0:09:14Finally settled in, Julie's encouraged by everything so far.
0:09:14 > 0:09:15It's just been amazing
0:09:15 > 0:09:18and I think the kids have taken it really well.
0:09:18 > 0:09:21But Dan's keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
0:09:21 > 0:09:23This house is fantastic,
0:09:23 > 0:09:26but it's whether we can afford something like this.
0:09:26 > 0:09:29There's just lots of things to find out.
0:09:29 > 0:09:31Having flown over 10,000 miles,
0:09:31 > 0:09:34he's already worried about the practicalities
0:09:34 > 0:09:37of being so far from the people he loves back home.
0:09:37 > 0:09:39I found it quite difficult travelling here
0:09:39 > 0:09:44so, obviously, my dad, I don't know if he'd actually be able to do it
0:09:44 > 0:09:46so, yeah,
0:09:46 > 0:09:50it's sort of bittersweet at the moment.
0:09:50 > 0:09:55The week ahead will determine whether or not Dan can buy into Julie's dream,
0:09:55 > 0:09:59but, for now at least, she is confident things will go her way.
0:09:59 > 0:10:02This is us finding out if this is what we actually want to do
0:10:02 > 0:10:03for the rest of our lives
0:10:03 > 0:10:06so it's got to be amazing
0:10:06 > 0:10:07and I think it will be.
0:10:12 > 0:10:16Back in the UK, the Rutlands live in a three-bedroom semidetached house
0:10:16 > 0:10:18in Bicester in Oxfordshire
0:10:18 > 0:10:21and they've worked hard to make it a home.
0:10:21 > 0:10:23I would quite like to transport our house
0:10:23 > 0:10:25- and Danny's worked really hard. - Yeah.
0:10:25 > 0:10:29I tell him what we're going to do and he works really hard to do it.
0:10:29 > 0:10:31Knowing she can't take it with her,
0:10:31 > 0:10:35Julie has a clear idea of what she'd like from a home in Australia.
0:10:35 > 0:10:40My dream house would have four bedrooms,
0:10:40 > 0:10:43plus a granny annexe so people could come and stay
0:10:43 > 0:10:46and an open-plan kitchen-dining area
0:10:46 > 0:10:49plus a swimming pool and literally practically on the beach.
0:10:50 > 0:10:53Dan has slightly different ideas.
0:10:53 > 0:10:56I'd like it maybe not so much on the beach.
0:10:56 > 0:11:00For me, it'd be more a harbour
0:11:00 > 0:11:03so that I could have somewhere to put my boat,
0:11:03 > 0:11:07but, there again, you know, I could have a boat here,
0:11:07 > 0:11:08but I can't afford that, either.
0:11:15 > 0:11:20Julie and Dan have around £250,000 to spend on a home in Australia.
0:11:20 > 0:11:22To find out what their money could buy,
0:11:22 > 0:11:24we'll show them three properties,
0:11:24 > 0:11:29two based on budget and the third which could be their dream home.
0:11:29 > 0:11:34Only after they've seen each property will they find out its value.
0:11:34 > 0:11:35It is a very nice area.
0:11:35 > 0:11:37It is, it is. It is a nice area.
0:11:37 > 0:11:40The search begins in Secret Harbour,
0:11:40 > 0:11:42just 45 minutes drive from central Perth.
0:11:42 > 0:11:44This well-established suburb
0:11:44 > 0:11:46offers a choice of schools and recreation areas.
0:11:46 > 0:11:50Its stunning beach location should be a further draw for Julie,
0:11:50 > 0:11:54but will this four-bedroom house be what she's looking for?
0:11:54 > 0:11:55Yeah.
0:11:55 > 0:11:57- What do you think? - Yeah, this is all right.
0:11:57 > 0:11:58Isn't it nice?
0:11:59 > 0:12:02Hopefully, she won't be disappointed.
0:12:02 > 0:12:04Come on in, kids.
0:12:04 > 0:12:05SHE GASPS
0:12:05 > 0:12:08- Oh, wow.- Yeah, I like it.
0:12:11 > 0:12:12It is a bit dark, isn't it?
0:12:12 > 0:12:15Yeah, a little bit, but I think maybe it is just quite a dark room.
0:12:15 > 0:12:18The grey day outside probably doesn't help,
0:12:18 > 0:12:21but will the open kitchen and living area Julie desires
0:12:21 > 0:12:24be enough to brighten her outlook?
0:12:24 > 0:12:27I don't know if it's kind of what I had in mind.
0:12:27 > 0:12:29It is open-plan living,
0:12:29 > 0:12:33but perhaps not as open-plan as I was hoping.
0:12:33 > 0:12:36She might be the one pushing for the move,
0:12:36 > 0:12:39but this house isn't quite what Julie's been dreaming of.
0:12:40 > 0:12:43- A main bedroom off of a lounge area. - It's en suite.
0:12:45 > 0:12:49Oh, it is a nice en suite, isn't it? It's a really big one.
0:12:49 > 0:12:52Julie soon spots potential in the other bedrooms, too.
0:12:52 > 0:12:55I love the windows at the front.
0:12:55 > 0:12:57- You do like a bay window, don't you? - I do.
0:12:57 > 0:12:59But is the room as pleasing?
0:12:59 > 0:13:03- It's a good double bedroom for one of the kids.- Yeah, it is good.
0:13:03 > 0:13:06- It's a good size.- It's actually growing on me, this house.
0:13:06 > 0:13:08The inside may be winning Julie over,
0:13:08 > 0:13:12but will the outside space be what they're after?
0:13:12 > 0:13:15It is nice. I do like the outdoor area. I do like it.
0:13:15 > 0:13:17It's very nice.
0:13:17 > 0:13:20Dan, on the other hand, is unhappy with the fake grass.
0:13:20 > 0:13:23It sounds like there's plastic bags underneath it, doesn't it?
0:13:23 > 0:13:25But Julie's not concerned.
0:13:25 > 0:13:28I can definitely see myself in a garden like this.
0:13:28 > 0:13:29See! You've changed your mind.
0:13:29 > 0:13:33Now the sun's come out, "Yeah, this is brilliant, yeah."
0:13:33 > 0:13:36Julie's enthusiasm has lifted with the clouds
0:13:36 > 0:13:39and she doesn't even mind the lack of swimming pool.
0:13:39 > 0:13:42As long as we're near to the sea, that would be more important
0:13:42 > 0:13:46than having a pool, but it would still have been nice.
0:13:46 > 0:13:49The house has had mixed reactions, but the big question is
0:13:49 > 0:13:51how much does it cost
0:13:51 > 0:13:56and would Julie and Dan's £250,000 budget be enough to buy it?
0:13:56 > 0:13:59Just over 200,000 or just under 200,000.
0:13:59 > 0:14:01That's what I'd be prepared to pay for it.
0:14:01 > 0:14:03I think it's going to be over budget.
0:14:03 > 0:14:05I think maybe about 275.
0:14:05 > 0:14:06If this is over budget,
0:14:06 > 0:14:09I mean, I'm going to feel, I think, quite disappointed by it.
0:14:09 > 0:14:12Time to turn the card and find out.
0:14:16 > 0:14:17See what it is.
0:14:19 > 0:14:22£254,600.
0:14:22 > 0:14:25That is pretty much bang on our budget.
0:14:25 > 0:14:27- That's OK.- Yeah, yeah.
0:14:27 > 0:14:28Are you a bit disappointed?
0:14:28 > 0:14:31Yeah, yeah, I was hoping it was going to be less than that.
0:14:31 > 0:14:35The first taste of Perth's property prices has been bittersweet for Dan.
0:14:35 > 0:14:38If Julie's to convince him to make the move,
0:14:38 > 0:14:41the next house needs to be more on the money.
0:14:41 > 0:14:43To find out, the family head to Baldivis,
0:14:43 > 0:14:47a rapidly expanding suburb just under 30 miles south of the city.
0:14:48 > 0:14:52Further inland, it's a 15-minute drive from the beach,
0:14:52 > 0:14:55but that could mean the family get better value for their money.
0:14:55 > 0:14:59Will the house be up to spec for the Rutlands?
0:14:59 > 0:15:00This all looks very nice.
0:15:00 > 0:15:02I like the look of this house.
0:15:02 > 0:15:04They're off to a good start.
0:15:06 > 0:15:10- Straight into a bedroom. - See, I just like this more.
0:15:10 > 0:15:11This furnishing is a lot more
0:15:11 > 0:15:13- like we would have in the house, isn't it?- Yeah.
0:15:13 > 0:15:17And a walk-in wardrobe puts an even bigger smile on Julie's face.
0:15:17 > 0:15:20Oh, look, you can put shoes in drawers. That's me sold!
0:15:20 > 0:15:22HE LAUGHS
0:15:22 > 0:15:26The en suite's more pleasing than the last one.
0:15:26 > 0:15:30- Oh, this is much nicer. Look. - Oh, yeah, this is nice.
0:15:30 > 0:15:32- It's much more to our taste.- Yeah.
0:15:32 > 0:15:34It's all good so far.
0:15:34 > 0:15:36Will the open-plan kitchen/living area
0:15:36 > 0:15:39be in line with Julie's expectations?
0:15:39 > 0:15:43- Oh, I love it!- So do I. - Yeah, it's much nicer.- Yeah.
0:15:43 > 0:15:45The kids could sit in the morning
0:15:45 > 0:15:47and I could be making their packed lunch and they could all be
0:15:47 > 0:15:50sitting there having breakfast and we're all talking at the same time.
0:15:50 > 0:15:55That could get noisy, Julie! But Dan's got an even bigger concern.
0:15:55 > 0:15:57This house makes me smile, but that means, to me,
0:15:57 > 0:16:00it's going to cost even more and be out of our price range.
0:16:00 > 0:16:03No, you don't know. It's further away from the sea.
0:16:03 > 0:16:06The house also has a separate playroom for the children.
0:16:06 > 0:16:07JULIE GASPS
0:16:07 > 0:16:09Wow, this is amazing!
0:16:09 > 0:16:11With four bedrooms, the children won't have to share.
0:16:11 > 0:16:16And when they spot a pool in the garden, Julie can't believe her luck.
0:16:16 > 0:16:18This house just got even better!
0:16:18 > 0:16:20Yeah, this house just got more expensive.
0:16:20 > 0:16:21JULIE LAUGHS
0:16:21 > 0:16:23Oh, my God, I love it!
0:16:23 > 0:16:28Despite his concerns about cost, Dan has to admit he's bowled over.
0:16:28 > 0:16:30If we could afford this house...
0:16:30 > 0:16:32you've got me in Australia.
0:16:32 > 0:16:34SHE CHUCKLES
0:16:34 > 0:16:36But before Julie gets too carried away,
0:16:36 > 0:16:39the family need to see how much this house costs
0:16:39 > 0:16:44and whether, with £250,000 to spend, they can afford it.
0:16:44 > 0:16:47I think it's going to be around...
0:16:47 > 0:16:50- about 270. 270, 280? - Do you?- Yeah.
0:16:50 > 0:16:53I think it's going to be about 315.
0:16:53 > 0:16:54Let's see who's right.
0:17:00 > 0:17:03- Let's have a look. - JULIE GASPS
0:17:03 > 0:17:08- Oh! See, I was right. - £262,800?
0:17:08 > 0:17:10That's amazing! That's doable.
0:17:10 > 0:17:12- Yeah, it is doable. - That's just made my day.- Yeah.
0:17:12 > 0:17:15Yeah, it certainly hasn't ruined mine.
0:17:15 > 0:17:18What do you think, kids? Cos we could afford that.
0:17:18 > 0:17:20- THEY CHANT:- Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
0:17:20 > 0:17:21Is that a yes, then?
0:17:22 > 0:17:26£12,000 over budget hasn't dented Julie's enthusiasm,
0:17:26 > 0:17:29and even Dan seems content with the cost.
0:17:32 > 0:17:33And the day's not over yet,
0:17:33 > 0:17:37as the Rutlands head for the coastal suburb of Waikiki.
0:17:37 > 0:17:39With shops, schools and adventure parks,
0:17:39 > 0:17:42it's a popular area with families.
0:17:43 > 0:17:48Based on their ideal wish list, we found what could be their dream home.
0:17:48 > 0:17:50But will Dan and Julie agree?
0:17:50 > 0:17:52- Well, it looks very nice, doesn't it?- Yeah.
0:17:52 > 0:17:56Just think how close we were to the beach! It was amazing, wasn't it?
0:17:56 > 0:18:01Just one street back from the sea, it's a thumbs up for location.
0:18:01 > 0:18:03Whoa! Let's have a look.
0:18:03 > 0:18:06- Wow, it looks huge. - Oh, it's massive!- Wow!
0:18:06 > 0:18:11It's not short on space, but is the style to Dan and Julie's taste?
0:18:11 > 0:18:12This seems a bit more...
0:18:13 > 0:18:15..a bit more homely. Maybe it's cos of the carpet.
0:18:15 > 0:18:17Not sure if that's an advantage.
0:18:17 > 0:18:22But moving on, the main living area isn't quite what they were expecting.
0:18:22 > 0:18:23Oh, this is a bit different.
0:18:25 > 0:18:27Yeah...
0:18:27 > 0:18:28Julie doesn't sound sure.
0:18:28 > 0:18:30I don't like the kitchen.
0:18:30 > 0:18:35- It's not really a really big area and I don't like all the bricks.- No.
0:18:35 > 0:18:36With four bedrooms, on paper,
0:18:36 > 0:18:38the house meets many of Julie's requirements,
0:18:38 > 0:18:42but the reality isn't matching up.
0:18:42 > 0:18:46And the master bedroom wouldn't entice Dan to make the move.
0:18:46 > 0:18:50Soory if it's disappointing again, if this is supposed to be your main bedroom.
0:18:50 > 0:18:53On the other ones, from the outside you think, "Oh, they're tiny."
0:18:53 > 0:18:57- This one, you think, "It's going to be massive," and it's not.- No...
0:18:57 > 0:18:59Julie looks crestfallen,
0:18:59 > 0:19:03and the dated en suite does little to lift her spirits.
0:19:03 > 0:19:08There's so much work that you'd need to do, that I would WANT to do...
0:19:08 > 0:19:11It'd be quicker, honestly, to knock it down.
0:19:11 > 0:19:15The interiors of this house have failed to wow Julie and Dan,
0:19:15 > 0:19:19but the spacious outdoor living area might just score a few points.
0:19:21 > 0:19:23- I do really like this.- Yeah?
0:19:23 > 0:19:25SHE GASPS
0:19:25 > 0:19:27- Jacuzzi?- Oh, I'm liking it a little bit more.
0:19:27 > 0:19:29Julie's back on form!
0:19:29 > 0:19:32You could imagine sitting out here with a group of friends,
0:19:32 > 0:19:35can't you, in the evening with a bottle of wine?
0:19:35 > 0:19:39And even though it's close to the beach, it's got the pool Julie wants.
0:19:39 > 0:19:40Well, that's a big swimming pool.
0:19:40 > 0:19:43That's a really lovely-size swimming pool.
0:19:43 > 0:19:47Despite earlier reservations, could this be the dream house after all?
0:19:47 > 0:19:50- This outside bit, this bit... - Is beautiful.
0:19:50 > 0:19:53You know, this pool is fantastic.
0:19:53 > 0:19:57But I still don't know whether I'd want to spend thousands doing it up.
0:19:57 > 0:20:00I guess it depends how much it costs.
0:20:00 > 0:20:04The jury's still out as Julie and Dan prepare to find out how much
0:20:04 > 0:20:06they'd be paying for a house like this.
0:20:06 > 0:20:09I think you're probably going to be looking at about 350,
0:20:09 > 0:20:11given that you've still got four bedrooms.
0:20:12 > 0:20:14No. No, for this...
0:20:15 > 0:20:18- A really big pool..- You've got four bedrooms, a big pool.
0:20:18 > 0:20:21- Really near to the sea...- Yeah, I think you might be right, 350.
0:20:21 > 0:20:23- Yeah?- Yeah.
0:20:23 > 0:20:25I don't think you're going to be far off with that.
0:20:25 > 0:20:29The family's budget is £250,000.
0:20:32 > 0:20:34- Turn it over.- Turn it over.
0:20:34 > 0:20:40- Whoa!- £318,900.
0:20:40 > 0:20:44- Wow!- 625.- So that's less than what I thought it would be, actually.- Yeah.
0:20:44 > 0:20:47It's less than I thought it would be, quite a bit less, to be fair,
0:20:47 > 0:20:50but this house, for me, it just doesn't flow.
0:20:50 > 0:20:54At almost £70,000 over budget, this house is out of reach
0:20:54 > 0:20:59unless Julie and Dan's earnings increase substantially down under.
0:20:59 > 0:21:04Overall, it's been an eye-opening property search for the Rutlands.
0:21:04 > 0:21:07Property one failed to deliver the large and bright living space
0:21:07 > 0:21:12Julie dreams of, and almost £5,000 over budget left Dan disappointed.
0:21:14 > 0:21:18With the open-plan living Julie loves and a pool in the garden,
0:21:18 > 0:21:21property two was a real hit with the whole family.
0:21:24 > 0:21:26But even close to the beach and with a pool,
0:21:26 > 0:21:30the final property of the day didn't meet Julie's expectations
0:21:30 > 0:21:35and, at nearly £70,000 over budget, proved unaffordable.
0:21:38 > 0:21:41So, how will the day influence their decision
0:21:41 > 0:21:45when it comes to picking between property in the UK and Australia?
0:21:45 > 0:21:49Based on the houses that we've seen today, we're now going to vote.
0:22:00 > 0:22:02- ALL:- Australia!
0:22:03 > 0:22:07Yay! We all voted Australia! You voted for Australia!
0:22:07 > 0:22:11- I'm really pleased.- Yeah, yeah, I like some of the houses we saw.
0:22:11 > 0:22:14The weather's not brilliant, but I can see what it offers out here.
0:22:14 > 0:22:17It's on par with what I've got at home.
0:22:17 > 0:22:20Oh, I'm so excited, this is a really good start to the week.
0:22:20 > 0:22:22- It's a good start for me, as well.- Yeah?- Yeah.
0:22:30 > 0:22:35Five votes for Australia has got the week off to a good start.
0:22:35 > 0:22:38But falling for Aussie property is the easy part.
0:22:38 > 0:22:41Julie knows if Dan can't be convinced he can find a job to pay
0:22:41 > 0:22:45for the house he wants, he won't be moving anywhere.
0:22:46 > 0:22:50Back in the UK, Dan's been a carpenter for 16 years.
0:22:50 > 0:22:53Happy in his work and with the lifestyle it affords,
0:22:53 > 0:22:56he has huge reservations about packing it in.
0:22:56 > 0:22:59Everything I've heard over there is saying things are more expensive,
0:22:59 > 0:23:02so it is whether the salary is achievable
0:23:02 > 0:23:04with a job that I want, as well.
0:23:04 > 0:23:07As a former Formula One engineer,
0:23:07 > 0:23:11Julie plans to retrain as a teacher in Australia, but knows
0:23:11 > 0:23:15it's Dan's work prospects that could make or break her dream to emigrate.
0:23:15 > 0:23:17It's really important that Dan gets the right job
0:23:17 > 0:23:20and salary in Australia, because I think that will be absolutely
0:23:20 > 0:23:22key to him making a decision.
0:23:22 > 0:23:25As Dan and Julie prepare to explore work options in Perth,
0:23:25 > 0:23:28Dan's realistic about what the day really means.
0:23:28 > 0:23:31Yesterday was an important day, obviously, to see
0:23:31 > 0:23:35what houses we could get, but today is probably even more important,
0:23:35 > 0:23:39because we've got to make sure that we can actually afford it.
0:23:40 > 0:23:42We've arranged for him to meet Robert Shaw,
0:23:42 > 0:23:46a director at one of Perth's well-established building companies.
0:23:47 > 0:23:49After a quick look around the site,
0:23:49 > 0:23:52Dan gets down to the nitty-gritty of finding work.
0:23:52 > 0:23:55I've had a look at your resume. You've been in the industry a while,
0:23:55 > 0:23:58so, yes, I would say all your skills are definitely transferable.
0:23:58 > 0:24:00If you've got the skill set that you've got, which is
0:24:00 > 0:24:03an ideal base for a supervisor, you'd certainly get a crack here.
0:24:03 > 0:24:06The bad news is Robert suggests Dan might need to learn about
0:24:06 > 0:24:10the Aussie way of working before becoming a supervisor.
0:24:10 > 0:24:13Meanwhile, Julie's gone to the Edith Cowan University to meet
0:24:13 > 0:24:17student recruitment co-ordinator Sarah Bally to find out
0:24:17 > 0:24:19about becoming a maths or science teacher.
0:24:19 > 0:24:23We offer a graduate diploma of education,
0:24:23 > 0:24:25which is a one-year conversion course,
0:24:25 > 0:24:29pretty much, for people that have a completed bachelor degree already.
0:24:29 > 0:24:31If, for example, you're going to become
0:24:31 > 0:24:33a maths teacher and a science teacher,
0:24:33 > 0:24:35we need to see that you've specialised that
0:24:35 > 0:24:37in your bachelor degree.
0:24:37 > 0:24:38With an engineering degree under her belt,
0:24:38 > 0:24:41that shouldn't be a problem for Julie.
0:24:41 > 0:24:45But she still needs to find out how much the course would cost.
0:24:45 > 0:24:49Approximately Aus 6,200 for the full year, for the full course.
0:24:49 > 0:24:54Around £3,000 is comparable with what she'd pay back home.
0:24:54 > 0:24:57- That's really great. Thank you very much.- No worries!
0:24:58 > 0:24:59Back at the building firm,
0:24:59 > 0:25:03Dan's keen to find out about potential earnings in the short term.
0:25:03 > 0:25:06I understand that I would have to start off on the bottom.
0:25:06 > 0:25:08Would that mean less money?
0:25:08 > 0:25:10You'd be around roughly £30,000.
0:25:10 > 0:25:13That's not as much as I earn at home.
0:25:13 > 0:25:16It's not the answer Dan wants, but Robert assures him
0:25:16 > 0:25:18he could soon be earning a lot more.
0:25:18 > 0:25:22As a supervisor, you might look at somewhere around
0:25:22 > 0:25:25Aus 70,000 to 80,000,
0:25:25 > 0:25:28up to 125,000.
0:25:28 > 0:25:32Between £39,000 and £60,000 is much more promising,
0:25:32 > 0:25:36and Dan's taken aback when Robert makes him an offer.
0:25:36 > 0:25:38If you were lucky enough to come over here
0:25:38 > 0:25:39and we had a position available
0:25:39 > 0:25:44and we wanted to train you off as a supervisor straight off the bat,
0:25:44 > 0:25:46would you be prepared to look at something like that?
0:25:46 > 0:25:50Erm, yeah, obviously, coming over here with the proposition
0:25:50 > 0:25:53of getting a job would obviously make it, yeah, even easier.
0:25:53 > 0:25:55It's great news for Dan.
0:25:55 > 0:25:58Meanwhile, Julie's gone to meet Alison Ramm,
0:25:58 > 0:26:00director of school staffing services
0:26:00 > 0:26:03at Western Australia's Department of Education.
0:26:03 > 0:26:05- Hello!- Hi.
0:26:05 > 0:26:06Alison's already read Julie's CV
0:26:06 > 0:26:09and the meeting gets off to a good start.
0:26:09 > 0:26:14You'd be a perfect candidate to move into maths or science teaching,
0:26:14 > 0:26:16because not only would you have that qualification,
0:26:16 > 0:26:20you'd also have that great industry experience.
0:26:20 > 0:26:23That's very encouraging, and there's more good news to come.
0:26:23 > 0:26:26We actually currently have a shortage of secondary teachers,
0:26:26 > 0:26:29so jobs are advertised on our government's job board.
0:26:29 > 0:26:31In fact, I looked this morning,
0:26:31 > 0:26:34and there's two science and two maths jobs currently advertised.
0:26:34 > 0:26:37With jobs looking plentiful, all Julie needs to find out now
0:26:37 > 0:26:41is whether the salary would justify her retraining.
0:26:41 > 0:26:43What sort of wages could I expect once I qualified?
0:26:43 > 0:26:45You'd start at the moment
0:26:45 > 0:26:47- on about £35,000 a year.- Wow!
0:26:47 > 0:26:51If you worked here for three years, you would progress to about £42,000,
0:26:51 > 0:26:56and then, after seven years, you'd be on about £49,000.
0:26:56 > 0:26:58That sort of salary's amazing.
0:26:58 > 0:27:01It's been a great day for Julie at work,
0:27:01 > 0:27:02and when she reunites with Dan,
0:27:02 > 0:27:05she's over the moon to hear about his job offer.
0:27:05 > 0:27:10He sort of said, if we come over, to give him a call
0:27:10 > 0:27:13and he'd be able to, if he's got jobs going and looking for people,
0:27:13 > 0:27:14he'd take me on and give me a go.
0:27:14 > 0:27:17So you could give him a ring when we move.
0:27:17 > 0:27:19When we move, yeah. If we move.
0:27:19 > 0:27:21THEY LAUGH
0:27:21 > 0:27:25Dan's not jumping into anything, but now it's time to discover
0:27:25 > 0:27:28whether today has done enough to make the couple both choose work
0:27:28 > 0:27:31in Australia over the UK.
0:27:31 > 0:27:35After a great day looking at job prospects, it's time to vote.
0:27:44 > 0:27:46- BOTH:- Australia!
0:27:47 > 0:27:49SHE SHRIEKS
0:27:49 > 0:27:50Oh, I'm so pleased!
0:27:54 > 0:27:57It looked like Julie was on a winning streak.
0:27:57 > 0:28:00So, did a day sampling Australia's lifestyle
0:28:00 > 0:28:04see her vision for a new life down under brought one step closer?
0:28:11 > 0:28:13Making the most of the time together,
0:28:13 > 0:28:14the family set out to explore
0:28:14 > 0:28:18the historic city of Fremantle, just 30 minutes from central Perth.
0:28:22 > 0:28:25First stop's the famous markets, where Dan wastes no time
0:28:25 > 0:28:29getting to grips with traditional Australian culture.
0:28:29 > 0:28:31HE BLOWS A DEEP NOTE
0:28:33 > 0:28:36- You're practically a native! - No, I don't think so!
0:28:36 > 0:28:38Nice try, Julie!
0:28:38 > 0:28:40After a leisurely stroll round the market,
0:28:40 > 0:28:43the family refuel with some authentic Aussie food.
0:28:44 > 0:28:47There's over 200 million kangaroos in Australia,
0:28:47 > 0:28:51- so we use a lot of kangaroo. - It's really nice, isn't it?
0:28:51 > 0:28:55Zack's definitely enjoying his first proper taste of Australian living.
0:28:55 > 0:28:59Coming to the market here every day would be fantastic.
0:28:59 > 0:29:01And Dan looks impressed, too.
0:29:01 > 0:29:04- Is all this convincing you? - It's working.
0:29:04 > 0:29:06- Oh! I'm so excited!- It's working.
0:29:06 > 0:29:08It's a great start to the day, but when the family venture out
0:29:08 > 0:29:13for a walk through the harbour, Dan's thoughts return to home.
0:29:13 > 0:29:16The family side of things, I think, is what's still playing on me,
0:29:16 > 0:29:18and that's leaving my dad.
0:29:18 > 0:29:20If I do move over here, even though
0:29:20 > 0:29:22Dad's said that he would come over and see me, it is a long way.
0:29:22 > 0:29:24I'm just not sure if
0:29:24 > 0:29:27that's something that he would actually be able to achieve.
0:29:27 > 0:29:29Julie could still have a battle on her hands
0:29:29 > 0:29:31convincing Dan to make the move.
0:29:31 > 0:29:33But, meanwhile, the family end their day
0:29:33 > 0:29:36with a fishing trip on the Swan River.
0:29:36 > 0:29:38Well, this is the boat, guys. Come on board.
0:29:38 > 0:29:40- Whoohoo! - DAN LAUGHS
0:29:40 > 0:29:43- Could we get something like that, Dad?- Probably not,
0:29:43 > 0:29:44mate, unless I nick it.
0:29:44 > 0:29:46ZACK LAUGHS
0:29:46 > 0:29:50He might not be able to afford the biggest boat on the river,
0:29:50 > 0:29:53but is this lifestyle one he could imagine living?
0:29:53 > 0:29:56Yeah, I could definitely see myself taking one of these out.
0:29:56 > 0:30:00I'd probably have, like, a doughnut on the back towing along Zack.
0:30:00 > 0:30:02For now, Julie's concentrating on
0:30:02 > 0:30:05selling days like this to Willow and Faye.
0:30:05 > 0:30:09- Could you see us coming over and spending days on the river?- Yeah!
0:30:09 > 0:30:12Catching a fish gets Zack on board, too.
0:30:12 > 0:30:14Oh, I caught a fish!
0:30:14 > 0:30:16The day's panned out well for everyone.
0:30:16 > 0:30:18The sun's come out for us.
0:30:18 > 0:30:21Yeah, it's just brilliant. I'm loving seeing them all really happy.
0:30:21 > 0:30:24It might be a bit too small for your head!
0:30:24 > 0:30:28But as it draws to a close, Dan's still mulling over the reality.
0:30:28 > 0:30:31Days like this would mean sacrificing relationships
0:30:31 > 0:30:34with everyone they love back home.
0:30:34 > 0:30:38Yeah, it's all good, it's just that one thing about family.
0:30:38 > 0:30:40- I know. I'll really miss them. - SHE SOBS
0:30:40 > 0:30:42And it is such a long way.
0:30:47 > 0:30:50The family face a tough decision come the end of the week,
0:30:50 > 0:30:53but now it's time to see if the day's done enough to make them
0:30:53 > 0:30:57all put Australia's lifestyle ahead of the UK's.
0:30:59 > 0:31:01Well, it's time to vote.
0:31:12 > 0:31:14- ALL:- Australia!
0:31:15 > 0:31:18Yay!
0:31:18 > 0:31:19Yay, we've all voted the same!
0:31:19 > 0:31:22- Dan?- Yeah, no, it was really good. It's been a really good day.
0:31:22 > 0:31:24I mean, the sun's out. Brilliant.
0:31:24 > 0:31:27- And you've said I can have a boat. - JULIE LAUGHS
0:31:27 > 0:31:30It's our third vote, and the whole family
0:31:30 > 0:31:33so far has voted for Australia, which is just amazing!
0:31:46 > 0:31:49With another clean sweep of votes for Australia,
0:31:49 > 0:31:51Julie's dream is gathering pace.
0:31:51 > 0:31:54But she knows Dan has to be convinced the move won't risk
0:31:54 > 0:31:58their financial stability, otherwise they won't be going anywhere.
0:31:58 > 0:32:02To fund the move, the couple would need to sell their house in the UK.
0:32:02 > 0:32:07They believe it's worth around £300,000. To see if they're right,
0:32:07 > 0:32:10we sent round two estate agents for current valuations.
0:32:11 > 0:32:14So, we're going to find out how much our house is worth.
0:32:14 > 0:32:16Go on, then, mate, you going to press play?
0:32:19 > 0:32:21Ooh, look, there's our house!
0:32:21 > 0:32:24That's funny, seeing your house on TV, isn't it?
0:32:24 > 0:32:28Yes, I like this room. Double-glazed windows, plenty of space.
0:32:28 > 0:32:31It's a good family size.
0:32:31 > 0:32:34And these units, well, they're well built.
0:32:34 > 0:32:37Great, spacious, very good use.
0:32:37 > 0:32:39I know, I built them.
0:32:39 > 0:32:42Yeah, good-size room. You've got space for a range cooker,
0:32:42 > 0:32:47and the dual-aspect windows make it, again, a light, bright and airy room.
0:32:47 > 0:32:50Yeah, so, this is the main bedroom. We've got built-in wardrobes.
0:32:50 > 0:32:52A bit of work necessary here.
0:32:52 > 0:32:54- SHE TRIES TO SUPPRESS A CHUCKLE - Oh, no, I forgot about that!
0:32:54 > 0:32:57OK, I'm really loving the size of the green area there.
0:32:57 > 0:33:00Definitely good for entertaining, for the kids etc.
0:33:00 > 0:33:02Looks like the lawn could have been mowed.
0:33:02 > 0:33:04In the current market, I would set the price
0:33:04 > 0:33:09at £260,000 and for early sale £250,000.
0:33:09 > 0:33:10No!
0:33:11 > 0:33:14In the current market, I would value this property
0:33:14 > 0:33:18at 315,000. For quick sale, 300,000.
0:33:18 > 0:33:23- Better!- See? See? Proves I'm right. - I definitely think 260 is too low.
0:33:23 > 0:33:27And if it was to sell for that, we would really struggle.
0:33:27 > 0:33:29Yeah, we would, yeah.
0:33:29 > 0:33:31It's a disappointing start.
0:33:31 > 0:33:34And as they sit down to work out finances in Australia,
0:33:34 > 0:33:37Julie knows Dan could be a tough audience.
0:33:37 > 0:33:40It's been really good, but if the figures aren't there
0:33:40 > 0:33:43and we can't afford to do it, we can't afford to do it.
0:33:43 > 0:33:46We've provided some cost-of-living comparison documents,
0:33:46 > 0:33:48starting with the weekly grocery shop.
0:33:48 > 0:33:51- Bananas.- Yeah?
0:33:51 > 0:33:55£1.20 in the UK for ten bananas.
0:33:55 > 0:33:57£4.49 in Australia?!
0:33:57 > 0:34:03- Yeah.- Biscuits. For three packs, it's £1.20 in the UK.
0:34:03 > 0:34:06The equivalent is nearly £4 in Australia!
0:34:07 > 0:34:11Julie tots up the figures to work out the overall damage.
0:34:11 > 0:34:15Our weekly shopping would be £149.
0:34:15 > 0:34:19Although more expensive than the UK, the figures aren't too bad.
0:34:19 > 0:34:22- £11.60 is neither her nor there. - That's a really positive start.
0:34:22 > 0:34:24Yes, that's OK.
0:34:24 > 0:34:27The couple move on to look at the bigger monthly outgoings,
0:34:27 > 0:34:32basing their figures on the second property they viewed.
0:34:32 > 0:34:36So, in Australia, the cost of the mortgage would be £840.
0:34:36 > 0:34:40- In Australia, yeah. - And the UK cost is £570.- Yeah.
0:34:40 > 0:34:43A quick check at the figures reveals the couple would also spend
0:34:43 > 0:34:47more on gas, electricity and water but, fortunately,
0:34:47 > 0:34:50fuel costs are a bit more palatable.
0:34:50 > 0:34:52We pay £400 in the UK.
0:34:52 > 0:34:56- And 238.- That's just amazing, isn't it?- That's massive.
0:34:56 > 0:35:03Overall, the couple's monthly bills would rise to £2,677.
0:35:03 > 0:35:08- Every month, we would be £241... - Worse off. Yeah?- Yeah.- OK.
0:35:08 > 0:35:10It's a lot of money.
0:35:10 > 0:35:13We'll just have to hope that our salaries can compensate.
0:35:13 > 0:35:17This could be where Julie's plans begin to unravel.
0:35:17 > 0:35:22In the UK, Dan earns almost £2,400 every month,
0:35:22 > 0:35:25but that figure's likely to decrease down under.
0:35:25 > 0:35:29- ..and the Australian equivalent is £2,080.- Yeah.
0:35:29 > 0:35:33Obviously, I'm not feeling particularly happy about that.
0:35:33 > 0:35:36That's £300 a month less, virtually.
0:35:36 > 0:35:40Hopefully, the potential for Julie to earn more once she's qualified
0:35:40 > 0:35:42will help balance the books.
0:35:42 > 0:35:46So, in the UK my salary is about £700 a month,
0:35:46 > 0:35:50and in Australia, that's got the potential to be 1,330.
0:35:50 > 0:35:56The couple's potential joint income would be just over £3,400.
0:35:56 > 0:36:00When they subtract the higher bills, the result's not too bad.
0:36:00 > 0:36:06- So we're left with £733 every month. - So we'd be £94 better off.- Yeah.
0:36:06 > 0:36:10It's not a fortune, but Julie's relieved they're still in the black.
0:36:10 > 0:36:14- I'm just... I'm just delighted. - I'm slowly losing this battle.
0:36:14 > 0:36:17That's brilliant. It's made my day.
0:36:17 > 0:36:20The figures have shown the move to be affordable, but are they good enough
0:36:20 > 0:36:23to keep Dan and Julie on the same page when it comes
0:36:23 > 0:36:27to choosing between finances in Australia and the UK?
0:36:27 > 0:36:29It's time to vote.
0:36:38 > 0:36:39- BOTH:- Australia!
0:36:39 > 0:36:41- Yay! - DAN LAUGHS
0:36:41 > 0:36:44- Well done! - So four out of four, yeah?
0:36:44 > 0:36:47- That was a bit of a no-brainer, really, wasn't it?- Yeah, yeah.
0:36:47 > 0:36:49We're better off in this country, so...
0:36:49 > 0:36:51- Yeah.- Yeah. Yeah? - Which is amazing.
0:36:51 > 0:36:54Yeah. I think I'm surprising meself!
0:36:56 > 0:37:00Realising the move's financially feasible has put Dan even further
0:37:00 > 0:37:05on Julie's side, but the greatest hurdle of all is on the horizon.
0:37:05 > 0:37:08Dan's always been concerned about leaving loved ones in the UK.
0:37:09 > 0:37:11While the children play outside,
0:37:11 > 0:37:15the couple sit down to watch heartfelt messages from home.
0:37:15 > 0:37:19I'm ready for watching the videos of friends and family.
0:37:21 > 0:37:26Hello, Danny, Julie. I love you all.
0:37:26 > 0:37:28I hope you're having a good time.
0:37:29 > 0:37:31Hello from Blighty!
0:37:31 > 0:37:33- ALL:- Hi, guys!
0:37:33 > 0:37:35Really hope you're having a terrible time in Australia.
0:37:35 > 0:37:38- Hope the weather's awful. - Yeah, and those spiders...
0:37:38 > 0:37:42- Julie and Dan are very well suited, aren't they?- Oh, very well.
0:37:42 > 0:37:45They make a good pair and a very good family for the children.
0:37:45 > 0:37:48She's very domineering. I feel sorry for him at times.
0:37:48 > 0:37:49He's like a little dog, isn't he? He pants.
0:37:49 > 0:37:52I thought she was really brave when she left her job that she loved
0:37:52 > 0:37:56because she knew that staying at home and looking after the children
0:37:56 > 0:37:58was really important to her, and I really admired her decision.
0:37:58 > 0:38:01Well, Harry would be definitely gutted that's Zack left,
0:38:01 > 0:38:04and I'd be pretty gutted that Dan's gone, to be fair.
0:38:04 > 0:38:07Yeah, I just think there'll be a hole in family get-togethers.
0:38:07 > 0:38:10There'll be people missing.
0:38:10 > 0:38:16I do wonder what will happen if and when something goes wrong
0:38:16 > 0:38:20and she has nobody there to support her.
0:38:20 > 0:38:23And, yeah, she is my best friend,
0:38:23 > 0:38:26and I shall miss her terribly when she's gone.
0:38:26 > 0:38:27I'm dreading it!
0:38:27 > 0:38:29But it's best for them.
0:38:33 > 0:38:36Yeah...
0:38:36 > 0:38:38We're just...
0:38:38 > 0:38:40We're a really close family, and...
0:38:41 > 0:38:44..I didn't think she'd...
0:38:44 > 0:38:46want to move away from us.
0:38:49 > 0:38:51I'm still really gutted that...
0:38:51 > 0:38:53they're really serious about it.
0:39:00 > 0:39:02I love him dearly.
0:39:03 > 0:39:05If they do...
0:39:05 > 0:39:09decide to go to Australia...
0:39:09 > 0:39:10erm...
0:39:11 > 0:39:13..I'll be a bit upset.
0:39:13 > 0:39:15If you really think Australia will give you a better
0:39:15 > 0:39:18quality of life, then you need to do it.
0:39:21 > 0:39:24But I don't want you to go, and I'd be really gutted if you did.
0:39:33 > 0:39:35That was just as hard...
0:39:35 > 0:39:37as I thought it was going to be.
0:39:37 > 0:39:40It's, like, I don't want to leave them.
0:39:40 > 0:39:42If I could bring them all with me, I would.
0:39:42 > 0:39:44Yeah, that was really tough.
0:39:44 > 0:39:46It was always going to be.
0:39:49 > 0:39:52With not a dry eye between them,
0:39:52 > 0:39:54the couple were left contemplating the enormity
0:39:54 > 0:39:58of putting thousands of miles between them and their loved ones.
0:39:58 > 0:40:01After such a positive week for the family,
0:40:01 > 0:40:06will the emotional pull back to the UK prove too strong to overcome?
0:40:06 > 0:40:09When the family touched down in Australia a week ago,
0:40:09 > 0:40:13Julie was desperate to convince Dan the country she fell in love with
0:40:13 > 0:40:1615 years previously was where their future lay.
0:40:18 > 0:40:20This week has been trying to find out
0:40:20 > 0:40:23whether Australia has the lifestyle that Jules thought it did,
0:40:23 > 0:40:27really, whether it was worth moving the other side of the world.
0:40:27 > 0:40:30Now a wife and mum, Julie's circumstances have changed
0:40:30 > 0:40:32since she was last here.
0:40:32 > 0:40:35But the country's more than lived up to her memories.
0:40:35 > 0:40:37In a way, I feel it's even better,
0:40:37 > 0:40:39because when you become a mum you get
0:40:39 > 0:40:43so much enjoyment from watching your children and seeing them
0:40:43 > 0:40:46in an environment where you know that they're going to thrive.
0:40:46 > 0:40:49Willow and Faye can see the advantages of Aussie living.
0:40:49 > 0:40:52We can go on the beach more in Australia
0:40:52 > 0:40:53and we can go outside more.
0:40:53 > 0:40:56We're not near the beach in England.
0:40:56 > 0:40:58Zack's enjoyed himself, too,
0:40:58 > 0:41:02but he's still not decided on where he wants to call home.
0:41:02 > 0:41:04I think the last vote with my family,
0:41:04 > 0:41:06it's going to be pretty hard to choose.
0:41:08 > 0:41:10And messages from loved ones in the UK
0:41:10 > 0:41:13have reminded Julie and Dan of how much they'd be giving up.
0:41:14 > 0:41:18Watching the family video was really hard, and it has put
0:41:18 > 0:41:21a dampener on everything throughout the week, in a way.
0:41:21 > 0:41:23It has made it really difficult.
0:41:25 > 0:41:27It was really hard on Jules.
0:41:27 > 0:41:30It was hard on me, as well, but, yeah, it was really hard on Jules.
0:41:30 > 0:41:33And it upset me watching her cry.
0:41:33 > 0:41:36With emotions running high, the family prepare to decide
0:41:36 > 0:41:39once and for all where they want to call home.
0:41:41 > 0:41:44Now it's time to make our final vote on where we would like to live.
0:41:58 > 0:42:01- ZACK: England! OTHERS:- Australia!
0:42:01 > 0:42:02That's the wrong way!
0:42:02 > 0:42:04You choose England.
0:42:04 > 0:42:06- Yeah.- Did you choose England?- Yeah.
0:42:06 > 0:42:11- Why would you prefer to live in England?- Because I miss my friends.
0:42:11 > 0:42:14Do you? That's OK. It's OK to miss your friends.
0:42:14 > 0:42:16That's OK.
0:42:16 > 0:42:19And, girls, why did you choose to live in Australia?
0:42:19 > 0:42:20Because it's nice and sunny!
0:42:20 > 0:42:25- And you can come in the water with us.- Dan? Australia?
0:42:25 > 0:42:27It's been a brilliant week.
0:42:27 > 0:42:32Everything I had doubts about has been allayed. Yeah, it's...
0:42:32 > 0:42:34I think it could work. I think it's worth giving it a go.
0:42:34 > 0:42:37- The Rutland family down under, eh? - Yeah. Yeah, I think so.
0:42:47 > 0:42:50Zack still needed some gentle persuasion,
0:42:50 > 0:42:53but with a majority vote for Australia,
0:42:53 > 0:42:57Julie's hard work and determination had finally paid off.
0:42:57 > 0:43:01So, 12 months later, it's time to find out
0:43:01 > 0:43:05if the family are now living at home...or away.
0:43:06 > 0:43:10It's April 2016 and the Rutlands are living in...
0:43:11 > 0:43:14..Perth, Australia.
0:43:14 > 0:43:16When the trial week won Dan round,
0:43:16 > 0:43:19Julie couldn't believe the dream she'd had for so long
0:43:19 > 0:43:21was on the verge of coming true.
0:43:21 > 0:43:22The fact that he said yes
0:43:22 > 0:43:25and he wanted to move out here was obviously amazing.
0:43:25 > 0:43:28It answered all the questions that I had, all the fears that I had.
0:43:28 > 0:43:33The Rutlands flew home on a high, but then came the difficult bit.
0:43:33 > 0:43:36I think literally as the wheels touched down back in England,
0:43:36 > 0:43:40her sisters were on the phone to her, "How did it go? How did it go?
0:43:40 > 0:43:42"How did it go? Are you still going?"
0:43:42 > 0:43:44Especially my sister Kirsten out of everybody
0:43:44 > 0:43:49had probably hoped the most that we would change our minds.
0:43:49 > 0:43:51Even though my dad had given the blessing
0:43:51 > 0:43:53and my sisters and stuff like that,
0:43:53 > 0:43:58it all then became a lot realer that we really were going to do it.
0:43:58 > 0:44:00Decision made,
0:44:00 > 0:44:05they then began the process of packing up their lives in the UK.
0:44:05 > 0:44:08It just felt huge.
0:44:08 > 0:44:12I was just really scared, actually, and very daunted cos as much
0:44:12 > 0:44:15as I really love Dan, you can tell by talking to him, he doesn't...
0:44:15 > 0:44:20He's not "sorta" so I knew that I'd got a really big task ahead of me.
0:44:20 > 0:44:24Julie found the experience particularly difficult.
0:44:27 > 0:44:32- Sorry...- It's all right. It was, it was hard. It was really hard on you.
0:44:32 > 0:44:36Selling their house in Oxfordshire was the first step.
0:44:36 > 0:44:37That was the big thing.
0:44:37 > 0:44:40Up until that point, none of it's real, but actually putting
0:44:40 > 0:44:45your house on the market and that "for sale" sign made it real.
0:44:45 > 0:44:48It made it a lot realer for the people back home, didn't it?
0:44:48 > 0:44:51- They realised that we were actually going.- Yeah.
0:44:51 > 0:44:54Less than six months after their trial week down under,
0:44:54 > 0:44:58the Rutlands prepared to say farewell to family and friends.
0:44:58 > 0:45:01You're just dreading the final goodbye and that just seemed
0:45:01 > 0:45:03to come round so quickly.
0:45:03 > 0:45:07We had a fantastic goodbye party.
0:45:07 > 0:45:10It was one of the best parties I've ever had. All our friends came.
0:45:10 > 0:45:13It was a memory to take with us to Australia of happy times,
0:45:13 > 0:45:16not of tears and sadness that we were leaving -
0:45:16 > 0:45:19of happiness that we were going.
0:45:19 > 0:45:23The family touched down in Perth in September 2015,
0:45:23 > 0:45:25but starting again on the other side of the world
0:45:25 > 0:45:27wasn't without its challenges.
0:45:27 > 0:45:32We were very tired. It was dark, it was really cold.
0:45:32 > 0:45:36Their first home was a short-term rental property.
0:45:36 > 0:45:39It wasn't the nicest of houses. It wasn't very well equipped.
0:45:39 > 0:45:42Yeah, everything was a little bit of a letdown.
0:45:42 > 0:45:45Their first few weeks down under fell short of the dream lifestyle
0:45:45 > 0:45:48they'd moved half a world for.
0:45:49 > 0:45:52You come here, you have nothing - simple things like bank accounts.
0:45:52 > 0:45:54You haven't got a doctor's,
0:45:54 > 0:45:56you don't know where you're going to live.
0:45:56 > 0:46:00Car shopping, house shopping, buying insurances - everything.
0:46:00 > 0:46:01It was manic, wasn't it?
0:46:01 > 0:46:04Yeah, when you're tired, everything is so much harder.
0:46:04 > 0:46:07When you've got three tired children, that's even harder.
0:46:07 > 0:46:10And, you know, every time we got into the car
0:46:10 > 0:46:12to look at another house or go to another bank,
0:46:12 > 0:46:16they were, "Mummy, Daddy, no, not again!"
0:46:16 > 0:46:20You feel bad for them and it's literally the easiest way,
0:46:20 > 0:46:23I think, to describe it is what takes you most of your adult life
0:46:23 > 0:46:27to accumulate, you have to fit into three weeks.
0:46:28 > 0:46:31Desperate to establish some kind of normality,
0:46:31 > 0:46:35having a place to call their own was high on the list of priorities.
0:46:35 > 0:46:39My criteria was a house with a pool right next to the beach
0:46:39 > 0:46:40that allowed a dog.
0:46:40 > 0:46:44It soon became plain that that was not available
0:46:44 > 0:46:46so we knew we were going to have to compromise on something
0:46:46 > 0:46:49and our compromise was a pool.
0:46:49 > 0:46:52The Rutlands are currently renting in Mullaloo,
0:46:52 > 0:46:5535 minutes' drive north of Perth centre.
0:46:55 > 0:46:57One evening, Jules was looking through the internet
0:46:57 > 0:46:59and found this place and rung them
0:46:59 > 0:47:00and they said, "Yeah, come and have a look."
0:47:00 > 0:47:03Before we'd walked in through the door, we were like,
0:47:03 > 0:47:05"Yeah, we're going to try and get this one," and we did.
0:47:06 > 0:47:08So, this is our kitchen,
0:47:08 > 0:47:11which is one of the reasons why we fell in love with this house.
0:47:11 > 0:47:12It's just beautiful.
0:47:12 > 0:47:16It was light and airy and one of the things I said I wanted
0:47:16 > 0:47:18from a house was a great big open-plan living area
0:47:18 > 0:47:22and this just fits the bill perfectly.
0:47:22 > 0:47:26This is our outside space. This is one of the things we wanted.
0:47:26 > 0:47:29We come and do homework here if we're not in the kitchen,
0:47:29 > 0:47:30don't we, and the weather's nice.
0:47:30 > 0:47:32There's the barbecue, which gets used every day.
0:47:32 > 0:47:34We hardly turn the oven on at all.
0:47:34 > 0:47:37- Yeah, it's great, isn't it? - Yeah, it is, yeah.
0:47:37 > 0:47:39It's lovely and we just, especially in the evenings,
0:47:39 > 0:47:41we just tend to sit out here with our books
0:47:41 > 0:47:44once the kids have gone to bed and just relax.
0:47:44 > 0:47:48Indoors, the children have their own special space.
0:47:48 > 0:47:52I've always wanted a playroom so, basically,
0:47:52 > 0:47:56this is where the kids can just come and it's a little bit of a mess.
0:47:56 > 0:48:00Mum and Dad are very happy with their room, too.
0:48:00 > 0:48:02It has the most amazing wardrobe.
0:48:02 > 0:48:05It is definitely another one of your favourite bits of the house.
0:48:05 > 0:48:06Let me just demonstrate just my side,
0:48:06 > 0:48:09just a quick little peek - look at all that storage!
0:48:09 > 0:48:14Amazing! And then we've got a really gorgeous en suite.
0:48:14 > 0:48:18I've never had an en-suite in my life before so that's a real bonus.
0:48:18 > 0:48:21To be fair, I don't think I could go back to not having an en-suite.
0:48:21 > 0:48:24There's plenty of space for the whole family
0:48:24 > 0:48:25to spread themselves out.
0:48:25 > 0:48:27Really, the kids, in this part of the house,
0:48:27 > 0:48:29they've almost got their own wing, haven't they?
0:48:29 > 0:48:31It makes life a lot easier
0:48:31 > 0:48:34with the space that you get with Australian houses.
0:48:34 > 0:48:38Since we moved in, these doors have been open every single day
0:48:38 > 0:48:40from morning till light and I love it.
0:48:40 > 0:48:42If a house had a soul, this one's got a good one.
0:48:42 > 0:48:47So, how have the children adapted to their new life down under?
0:48:47 > 0:48:49Zack's been the hardest to settle.
0:48:49 > 0:48:50Being the oldest,
0:48:50 > 0:48:56he's definitely been more aware of what we were doing, of the distance.
0:48:56 > 0:49:00He understands about making friends and there's an awkwardness to it.
0:49:00 > 0:49:05To start a new school, it was really tough. The work's a lot harder.
0:49:05 > 0:49:09It was tough making friends, but, in the end, I made a lot of friends.
0:49:09 > 0:49:13Joining the local surf club's been a real lifeline for Zack.
0:49:13 > 0:49:17I have watched him in six months come a long way.
0:49:17 > 0:49:21I like Australia because it's fun,
0:49:21 > 0:49:27it's not chucking it down with rain and there's lots of things to do.
0:49:27 > 0:49:28Seriously, you take him to the beach,
0:49:28 > 0:49:31you can't get him out the sea. The rougher, the better.
0:49:31 > 0:49:34He's confident, he's happy.
0:49:34 > 0:49:37Yeah, he'll still tell you he prefers England,
0:49:37 > 0:49:39but I don't believe it.
0:49:39 > 0:49:41And Willow and Faye?
0:49:41 > 0:49:47The girls have been so unfazed by the whole process. Faye...
0:49:47 > 0:49:50Faye hated school in England, she hates school in Australia.
0:49:50 > 0:49:55She's just Faye. She's going to be my little surfer dude.
0:49:55 > 0:49:58She absolutely is going to be an Aussie.
0:49:58 > 0:50:03I like living in Australia because it has sometimes
0:50:03 > 0:50:10a cool breeze cos it's hot and flowers grow.
0:50:10 > 0:50:13And then Willow, I'm so proud of Willow.
0:50:13 > 0:50:17After I cried just a little bit, then I stopped,
0:50:17 > 0:50:19then I made some friends with Billie.
0:50:19 > 0:50:24Willow found a friend straightaway and they're still friends now
0:50:24 > 0:50:27so, yeah, Willow settled in really well.
0:50:27 > 0:50:29She's not like the others, she's not sporty.
0:50:29 > 0:50:32She's not a big fan of the beach,
0:50:32 > 0:50:35but she does swimming lessons like the others, she's confident,
0:50:35 > 0:50:38she's got some amazing friends and she's doing great.
0:50:38 > 0:50:42Julie and Dan are convinced they made the right move
0:50:42 > 0:50:44for their young family.
0:50:44 > 0:50:50As they all get older, yeah, they will see why we moved.
0:50:50 > 0:50:53Every heartache and every tear and every bit I miss someone
0:50:53 > 0:50:56is absolutely worth it because the children are so happy
0:50:56 > 0:50:58and the lifestyle they've got is amazing.
0:50:58 > 0:51:00And it's not just the children
0:51:00 > 0:51:03who've taken to life down under like ducks to water.
0:51:03 > 0:51:05Yeah, she forced me into it to start off with
0:51:05 > 0:51:08and now I've completely, yeah, sunk my teeth into it.
0:51:08 > 0:51:10I love barbecuing,
0:51:10 > 0:51:13I go out as many times a week as I can on my paddleboard.
0:51:13 > 0:51:15He's absolutely an Aussie.
0:51:15 > 0:51:17In fact, he talks like an Aussie.
0:51:17 > 0:51:19The other day, he said to me
0:51:19 > 0:51:23something about throwing a snag on the barbie, was it?
0:51:23 > 0:51:26This lifestyle suits him down to the ground.
0:51:26 > 0:51:28Yeah, I love it.
0:51:28 > 0:51:32The Aussie lifestyle has meant more quality time together.
0:51:32 > 0:51:37Perth is a really family orientated place to be,
0:51:37 > 0:51:39like free events in the park that we take them to.
0:51:39 > 0:51:44Yeah, there's just so much on offer for families. It's a great place.
0:51:44 > 0:51:47Being in Australia has definitely enhanced our family life.
0:51:47 > 0:51:52The couple have developed a solid social circle in Perth, too.
0:51:52 > 0:51:57Someone that we met who is literally a one-person welcome to Perth.
0:51:57 > 0:52:00She literally sets up barbecues and you get to meet
0:52:00 > 0:52:03all these other people and we're still friends with them now.
0:52:03 > 0:52:04Dan's meeting people through work
0:52:04 > 0:52:06and I've met some people through the school
0:52:06 > 0:52:11so, yeah, certainly meeting friends has just been wonderful.
0:52:11 > 0:52:14Unfortunately, the job Dan was offered
0:52:14 > 0:52:17during his trial week didn't pan out.
0:52:17 > 0:52:21When I got here, I made the phone calls, e-mails
0:52:21 > 0:52:23and just got absolutely no response to that,
0:52:23 > 0:52:24which did annoy me a little bit.
0:52:24 > 0:52:27There were some choice words said, but, at the end of the day,
0:52:27 > 0:52:30I just had to get on and find another job, which I did.
0:52:30 > 0:52:34Getting used to the local way of working hasn't been plain sailing.
0:52:34 > 0:52:37Carpenters here have a different sort of role.
0:52:37 > 0:52:40They're very much used to do sort of like all sorts of different things.
0:52:40 > 0:52:42Yeah, for the last week,
0:52:42 > 0:52:45I've been digging holes and doing shuttering, which isn't something
0:52:45 > 0:52:49I've done before, but it turns out I can dig quite a good hole.
0:52:49 > 0:52:51Working on a self-employed basis,
0:52:51 > 0:52:55Dan currently earns around £225 a day.
0:52:55 > 0:52:58It is really good, but it is for a ten-hour day.
0:52:58 > 0:53:00I could earn the same money back home
0:53:00 > 0:53:04in a shorter period of time just because of the way things are done,
0:53:04 > 0:53:10but it does leave my weekends free, which was the point of coming here.
0:53:10 > 0:53:14Julie's started her training to become a teacher down under,
0:53:14 > 0:53:16but with just one wage coming in,
0:53:16 > 0:53:19the couple have had to dip into their savings to survive.
0:53:19 > 0:53:22The money that we had in our bank was everything that we had
0:53:22 > 0:53:25and to start off with, we just saw it...
0:53:25 > 0:53:27It was like someone had drilled a hole in our bank account
0:53:27 > 0:53:29and it was just leaking out -
0:53:29 > 0:53:33to see thousands and thousands of dollars
0:53:33 > 0:53:39just going out of your account just to feed, just to pay your bills.
0:53:39 > 0:53:41We've just had to accept it
0:53:41 > 0:53:43and think, "OK, we're going to have to do that,
0:53:43 > 0:53:45"but we're just going to do it as a short term."
0:53:45 > 0:53:48Originally signed up for a two-year course,
0:53:48 > 0:53:52Julie's now pushing to qualify in just a year.
0:53:52 > 0:53:56Now, doing a degree full-time with three children
0:53:56 > 0:53:59in a new place is quite tough.
0:53:59 > 0:54:03She's also worried about the extra pressure it's putting on Dan.
0:54:03 > 0:54:05He works long hours and in the heat,
0:54:05 > 0:54:08that takes it out of him and it does put a strain on us
0:54:08 > 0:54:13and I feel guilty because of that, but, you know, you just have to keep
0:54:13 > 0:54:16thinking it is a short-term goal, it is only a year.
0:54:16 > 0:54:19There is going to be an outcome at the end of it
0:54:19 > 0:54:21so while it's tough, it's not going to be forever.
0:54:21 > 0:54:25But financial worries haven't been the only negative.
0:54:26 > 0:54:31Things that I didn't expect to miss so much, I miss a lot.
0:54:31 > 0:54:34Some days, like, although it's beautiful, some days,
0:54:34 > 0:54:38you think all the sunshine in the world doesn't make up for a hug...
0:54:43 > 0:54:45But I wouldn't want to go back to England.
0:54:46 > 0:54:49I just wish they were all here with me.
0:54:49 > 0:54:51I miss my dad, I miss my family.
0:54:53 > 0:54:56Apart from that, I don't actually miss anything.
0:54:56 > 0:54:59Julie's mum and stepdad have already been out to visit.
0:54:59 > 0:55:02Picking them up from the airport was a reminder
0:55:02 > 0:55:04of how far from home they are.
0:55:04 > 0:55:07I think there must have been so many people that came through the airport
0:55:07 > 0:55:09that hadn't seen their children for so long
0:55:09 > 0:55:11that by the time my mum came through the airport,
0:55:11 > 0:55:13I'd already gone through a box of tissues.
0:55:13 > 0:55:16Some poor woman fell to her knees at the sight of her son.
0:55:16 > 0:55:20Oh, my God, I was clinging hold of the railings, like, sobbing
0:55:20 > 0:55:22and I'd never met the woman before.
0:55:22 > 0:55:26Granny's visit was a complete surprise for the children.
0:55:26 > 0:55:28They were playing at the park when my mum arrived
0:55:28 > 0:55:31and it was just lovely.
0:55:31 > 0:55:33My mum came over the hill
0:55:33 > 0:55:36and I was saying to the kids like, "Who's that? Who's that?"
0:55:36 > 0:55:38And they were all looking and then all of a sudden,
0:55:38 > 0:55:41it clicked with Zack and he was like, "It's Granny Annie!"
0:55:41 > 0:55:43It was really great to see them again
0:55:43 > 0:55:45cos I'd missed them, I missed them a lot.
0:55:45 > 0:55:48It's lovely to have them here and also it is that bit
0:55:48 > 0:55:50that now they can see why we've done it.
0:55:50 > 0:55:56The lifestyle is incredible. It's brilliant, brilliant for kids.
0:55:58 > 0:56:02I envy them. I really do envy them, you know.
0:56:03 > 0:56:06And there's plenty of other visits in the pipeline.
0:56:06 > 0:56:08Good friends coming out at Christmas.
0:56:08 > 0:56:10My dad, at the moment,
0:56:10 > 0:56:13depending on how his operation goes on his knee,
0:56:13 > 0:56:15he intends on coming out in March.
0:56:15 > 0:56:17They're just a year into their new life down under,
0:56:17 > 0:56:21but Dan and Julie are convinced the move's a permanent one.
0:56:21 > 0:56:25There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that we did the right thing.
0:56:25 > 0:56:26No, neither in mine, either.
0:56:26 > 0:56:30Money's tough, it is definitely tough, but it's a short-term tough.
0:56:30 > 0:56:32There is light going to be at the end of the tunnel.
0:56:32 > 0:56:35We're really happy, the kids are really happy and I think the longer
0:56:35 > 0:56:39we are here, the more ingrained our lives become in Australia.
0:56:39 > 0:56:41Just looking forward to the future in general.
0:56:41 > 0:56:43And then, obviously, the main aim
0:56:43 > 0:56:45is to work towards that boat that you promised me.
0:56:45 > 0:56:47- SHE LAUGHS - Oh, yeah, the boat!
0:56:47 > 0:56:50- I want to ride one.- I know. Daddy wants to own one.
0:56:50 > 0:56:52Except you both might want to ride it.
0:56:54 > 0:56:55I can't believe I did it.
0:56:55 > 0:56:59I can't believe I was that brave enough because, actually,
0:56:59 > 0:57:01it's a really long road.
0:57:01 > 0:57:04It was a very stressful road, but it was very worth it.
0:57:04 > 0:57:07It will be, I think, the hardest thing that you've ever done,
0:57:07 > 0:57:10but as long as you give it everything you can,
0:57:10 > 0:57:12it will be worthwhile.
