0:00:02 > 0:00:06They say it's not where you live but who you live with that's important.

0:00:06 > 0:00:10But what if you and your partner are at loggerheads over where to spend

0:00:10 > 0:00:13your future, and that's threatening to ruin your relationship?

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Having arrived in the UK 15 years ago,

0:00:18 > 0:00:22Shari Atkins is now desperate to return to Australia.

0:00:22 > 0:00:26As much as home is here now, there's a part of my heart in Australia.

0:00:26 > 0:00:31But husband Karie can't bear to leave the life he loves in the UK.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34There are family, there are friends, there are the finances,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36you know, the reality of it all.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38After years of indecision,

0:00:38 > 0:00:43a trial week down under is crunch time for Shari's dream and marriage.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46If Karie voted to stay in the UK, that's kind of putting a bit of

0:00:46 > 0:00:51a nail in our coffin because I just think I'll be done with waiting.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20The flattest and lowest landmass on Earth,

0:01:20 > 0:01:25Australia's a nation people have called home for over 40,000 years.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Offering stunning landscapes and a fabulous climate,

0:01:28 > 0:01:32in more recent times it's been considered a land of plenty

0:01:32 > 0:01:35for British families on the move, with recent figures showing

0:01:35 > 0:01:39an estimated 34,000 people emigrate there every year.

0:01:42 > 0:01:47When Shari Atkins arrived in the UK from Australia in 2001

0:01:47 > 0:01:51as a fresh-faced traveller, it was always planned as a temporary trip.

0:01:51 > 0:01:5515 years on, however, despite repeated promises from husband

0:01:55 > 0:02:00Karie to make the move down under, she's still living in Wales

0:02:00 > 0:02:03and the issue's putting their marriage under pressure.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Now, Shari has one week to convince Karie to follow her home or

0:02:07 > 0:02:10face the possibility of losing her for ever.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15The couple's return trip to Australia starts with

0:02:15 > 0:02:18a flight from London to Dubai and then on to Perth.

0:02:18 > 0:02:22And, after almost 18 hours in the sky, Karie's exhausted

0:02:22 > 0:02:23when they finally touch down.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27The journey was very long, didn't get much sleep.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Shari's delighted to be back on Aussie soil.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33I'm just excited to be home, to be fair,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35and just looking forward to getting back into it and showing

0:02:35 > 0:02:40Karie kind of the lifestyle that he could potentially have here with me.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42But he's more anxious than excited.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46I'm pretty nervous, bit of pressure on me this week.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50Yeah, I'm hoping everything goes well and, you know, all the things

0:02:50 > 0:02:53that we see kind of, you know, take us in the right direction.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56Their emotions may be conflicting

0:02:56 > 0:03:00but the couple agree on the importance of the next seven days.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03There's a lot riding on this week.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05Yeah, there's a massive amount riding on this week.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08I guess it's us, at the end of the day, that's riding on this week.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10Pretty much.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13As the couple head out into Perth, they're all too aware their

0:03:13 > 0:03:17marriage could be on the line if they can't agree come the end of the week.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20Back in the UK,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24Karie and Shari Atkins live in Chepstow in South Wales.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Born in Australia, Shari was considering travelling the world

0:03:28 > 0:03:33when, in 2001, the flip of a coin changed her future for ever.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35It came up heads and I literally walked out the door

0:03:35 > 0:03:38and went straight to the closest travel agent

0:03:38 > 0:03:40and booked a one-way flight to the UK.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45Five years later, Shari was just six months from returning home

0:03:45 > 0:03:46when she met Karie.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49Their first date didn't start well.

0:03:50 > 0:03:52I was over an hour late.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55- Hour and a half. - OK, an hour and a half!

0:03:55 > 0:03:57But, having hit it off, Shari temporarily delayed

0:03:57 > 0:04:00her return to Australia on the understanding

0:04:00 > 0:04:03if Karie remained in her life, he'd eventually go with her.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09I pretty much told him from the word go that if, you know...

0:04:09 > 0:04:12anybody who was going to be with me would have to realise that

0:04:12 > 0:04:14at some point I'm going back and, hopefully, that they

0:04:14 > 0:04:18would want to come with me, but that it was a non-negotiable deal.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22I kind of didn't really think much about it, to be honest,

0:04:22 > 0:04:25didn't really contemplate such a huge thing.

0:04:25 > 0:04:29When the couple decided to tie the knot three years later,

0:04:29 > 0:04:32Karie promised Shari a future down under.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35When we got engaged, Karie had said that we would,

0:04:35 > 0:04:38at some point in the future, move back to Australia.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42It would be part of the deal, part of the engagement package. Um...

0:04:42 > 0:04:46And, yeah, I just always thought that it would be part of our future at some point.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51The couple took a trip to Shari's home country in 2012,

0:04:51 > 0:04:55but if she was hoping to use it to persuade Karie to make the move

0:04:55 > 0:04:57her plan didn't work out.

0:04:57 > 0:05:00Almost 15 years after she arrived in the UK,

0:05:00 > 0:05:02she's now longing to go home.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09It's something to do with feeling home,

0:05:09 > 0:05:11and as much as home is here now,

0:05:11 > 0:05:14there's a part of my heart in Australia.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16But, despite his earlier promises,

0:05:16 > 0:05:19Karie still can't commit to the life his wife wants.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24She can just flip a coin and make a decision based on that.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27Whereas I'm much more considered.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30I need to be on the way to 100% certain that these

0:05:30 > 0:05:32things are going to...

0:05:32 > 0:05:34You know, this is going to work for us.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37A fan of outdoor pursuits, Karie has concerns about a move.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45I'd need to be confident that there was a job there for both of us.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48I'd need to know that we could afford a house.

0:05:48 > 0:05:53To know that we could at least match the life that we have in the UK

0:05:53 > 0:05:56and also that I could fit into the lifestyle.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01He's also wavering at the thought of leaving family in the UK.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05I do love them very much and it just...

0:06:05 > 0:06:08It'll be a real struggle for me, I think.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11The prospect of saying goodbye to ageing grandparents

0:06:11 > 0:06:13is especially tough.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16I'd really miss them, obviously, but it's just, yeah, not knowing

0:06:16 > 0:06:21whether I would actually see them again and that's really difficult.

0:06:23 > 0:06:27Nine years since their first conversations about Australia,

0:06:27 > 0:06:31Shari is running out of patience and she is so desperate to return home

0:06:31 > 0:06:34she's even contemplating going on her own.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37Threatening to leave Karie and leave our relationship

0:06:37 > 0:06:40and leave everything we've got built up here, it's...

0:06:40 > 0:06:41Nobody wants to do that.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45But, I've realised that that's...

0:06:45 > 0:06:49You know, I've got to give it a go, so that's, erm...

0:06:50 > 0:06:52..that's where it's come from.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56Sorry.

0:06:59 > 0:07:03The couple now face a week that will make or break their relationship, as

0:07:03 > 0:07:07Shari gives trying to convince Karie to follow her home one last shot.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13It was always part of the deal that we would do it one day.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16You know, I've been open and honest about wanting to go back

0:07:16 > 0:07:20since day one and I think it's fair.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23Blatantly, I've not come through on my promise.

0:07:23 > 0:07:24I do feel bad about that.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30Just give it a go. That's all I'm asking.

0:07:30 > 0:07:34- Not, you know, not the world, just give it a go. Be fair.- I know.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49Shari and Karie are spending their trial week in the coastal port

0:07:49 > 0:07:53of Fremantle, just 12 miles from central Perth in Western Australia.

0:07:57 > 0:07:59Their temporary home is a one-bedroom cottage

0:07:59 > 0:08:00on a leafy street close to the beach,

0:08:00 > 0:08:04but will it live up to Shari's memories of Australian living?

0:08:04 > 0:08:08- What do you reckon? - Hi, honey, I'm home.

0:08:08 > 0:08:10Happy so far, then.

0:08:10 > 0:08:12- Oh.- Finally here.- Wow!

0:08:13 > 0:08:16The quirky interiors of this former fisherman's cottage

0:08:16 > 0:08:18appeal to Shari straightaway.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21I could live in something like this. I'd be very happy.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23But Karie's not so sure.

0:08:23 > 0:08:27It's, like, kind of not Australian but...

0:08:27 > 0:08:29I don't know.

0:08:29 > 0:08:31- It's probably not what you were expecting, no.- Yeah, exactly.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34- The kitchen isn't quite what he expected, either.- I don't know.

0:08:34 > 0:08:38It's sort of open plan, but it's not quite what, I guess,

0:08:38 > 0:08:40we were thinking, maybe, but I really like it.

0:08:40 > 0:08:43- No, it's awesome. They have a nice back yard.- Yeah.

0:08:43 > 0:08:46It's not huge, but Shari quickly spots something that should

0:08:46 > 0:08:48appeal to Karie.

0:08:49 > 0:08:54- Shed. Yeah.- Off you go. - Yeah, I know where I'm sleeping.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56Hopefully, it won't come to that.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58After checking out the rest of the house,

0:08:58 > 0:09:01the couple appear happy with everything they've seen so far.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05It's a lovely place. It's very homely, very quirky.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07It's a good start.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09I just can't wait to get out and rediscover it all

0:09:09 > 0:09:12and remind myself of how good it is.

0:09:12 > 0:09:16But, as they make themselves at home, Shari's enthusiasm for being

0:09:16 > 0:09:19back on home turf is already unsettling Karie.

0:09:19 > 0:09:22You know, there is a bit of pressure there for me

0:09:22 > 0:09:25to like things and want to feel the same way,

0:09:25 > 0:09:27but, you know, I've got to look at it

0:09:27 > 0:09:32with a clear mind and see what I think and see what's possible.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34After years spent longing to be back home,

0:09:34 > 0:09:37Shari knows the week ahead is critical

0:09:37 > 0:09:40if she and Karie are to have a future.

0:09:40 > 0:09:42A decision has to be made, one way or the other.

0:09:42 > 0:09:44I know ultimately that I want to be here

0:09:44 > 0:09:47and I'd like Karie to be, but if he chooses not to, then...

0:09:47 > 0:09:50Well, I guess we'll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52Hopefully not, though.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55# Are you with me... #

0:10:00 > 0:10:03Back in the UK, home for Shari and Karie is a two-bedroom

0:10:03 > 0:10:06mid-terraced cottage in Chepstow, South Wales.

0:10:07 > 0:10:10We've worked really, really hard to get it exactly how we like it.

0:10:10 > 0:10:12It was our first home as a married couple,

0:10:12 > 0:10:14so, you know, it has great importance to us.

0:10:14 > 0:10:17Still, Shari is prepared to give it up to return to the country

0:10:17 > 0:10:21where she was born, and if she does persuade Karie to join her

0:10:21 > 0:10:24the couple agree on the kind of house they'd like next.

0:10:25 > 0:10:27I would love a big back yard.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30A small house on a big piece of land.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Three bedrooms would be great.

0:10:33 > 0:10:36- A shed for you. - Yeah, a shed or a garage.

0:10:36 > 0:10:38Close to the beach.

0:10:38 > 0:10:41In an ideal world, it will also be quite close to some wooded area,

0:10:41 > 0:10:44so you could go off and do some biking.

0:10:44 > 0:10:47But there's a difference of opinion on whether

0:10:47 > 0:10:50their £330,000 budget can get them the perfect property.

0:10:50 > 0:10:54I think there's a dream property for that kind of money out there.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57But, I think, in Australian terms with Australian wages,

0:10:57 > 0:11:00- probably lower-ish rung.- OK.

0:11:05 > 0:11:08To find out what kind of house they could actually have,

0:11:08 > 0:11:11today we'll show Karie and Shari three properties.

0:11:13 > 0:11:17Two based on their budget and a third which could be their dream home.

0:11:17 > 0:11:21Only after they've seen each one will they find out what it costs.

0:11:23 > 0:11:25House-hunting gets underway in Bayswater,

0:11:25 > 0:11:29just over three miles north-east of central Perth.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31Stretching along the banks of the Swan River,

0:11:31 > 0:11:34the area offers plenty of open space for running and cycling,

0:11:34 > 0:11:37so could be perfect for Karie.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39But will it be the house to persuade him

0:11:39 > 0:11:42to make Shari's wish to return home come true?

0:11:42 > 0:11:45- Seen this garage? - I know, it's brilliant.

0:11:45 > 0:11:49That's one thing off the wish list. Hopefully, inside won't disappoint.

0:11:50 > 0:11:55Oh, this is nice, isn't it? Nice open plan. Straight into the lounge.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57I wasn't expecting that, actually.

0:11:57 > 0:11:59Karie doesn't sound sold.

0:11:59 > 0:12:03I like the layout, but I'm not so keen on the look of the kitchen.

0:12:03 > 0:12:06- Oh, that's OK, that can be changed.- Yeah, true.

0:12:06 > 0:12:09Shari is determined to sell Aussie homes.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12But first, the spacious master bedroom helps her case.

0:12:14 > 0:12:18- Wow! Oh, it's beautiful. - That's not a bad size, is it?

0:12:18 > 0:12:20- That's absolutely beautiful.- Yeah.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23But, on further inspection...

0:12:23 > 0:12:27It's kind of weird, for me, having a bedroom at the front of the house.

0:12:27 > 0:12:30Well, British houses are all upstairs downstairs, aren't they?

0:12:30 > 0:12:32So, Aussie houses are a bit more...

0:12:32 > 0:12:34You always have bedrooms at the front.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37The layout might take some getting used to, but with three

0:12:37 > 0:12:40good-sized bedrooms, the house offers the space the couple want.

0:12:40 > 0:12:44- The bathroom, though, shows less promise.- It's kind of...

0:12:44 > 0:12:46- It's a bit disappointing.- It is disappointing.

0:12:46 > 0:12:48It doesn't fit well with the house, I don't think.

0:12:48 > 0:12:52It may not be the stuff dreams are made of but, moving outside,

0:12:52 > 0:12:55the huge garden is a big hit with Shari.

0:12:56 > 0:12:57Whoa! That is awesome.

0:13:00 > 0:13:03No way! This is brilliant.

0:13:03 > 0:13:07This is, like, exceeding my expectations at the moment.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10And additional space for bikes and sporting equipment

0:13:10 > 0:13:12almost leaves Karie speechless.

0:13:12 > 0:13:17If this fits with the budget we've got in mind, wow!

0:13:17 > 0:13:20Would you move in tomorrow? I'm not joking.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23I know you're not joking. I know. I know you're not joking.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25It's the first place they've seen,

0:13:25 > 0:13:29but this could be the house to tempt Karie to swap Chepstow for Perth

0:13:29 > 0:13:32if their £330,000 budget would be enough to buy it.

0:13:35 > 0:13:37Time to find out.

0:13:45 > 0:13:50Whoa! £343,200.

0:13:50 > 0:13:51That is amazing.

0:13:51 > 0:13:55- OK, it's over our budget.- Yeah, yeah.- But it's not that much over.

0:13:55 > 0:13:58- That's really impressive. - That is promising, isn't it?

0:13:58 > 0:13:59Really impressive.

0:14:01 > 0:14:06Just over 13,000 over budget hasn't dented the couple's enthusiasm,

0:14:06 > 0:14:10and, encouraged, they move on to view the second property of the day.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15It's situated in Karrinyup, a well-established suburb

0:14:15 > 0:14:1715 minutes' drive from the city.

0:14:17 > 0:14:21- Properties along here are not cheap. - Oh, it's by the coast.

0:14:21 > 0:14:23It's right there.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25Close to one of Perth's most popular beaches,

0:14:25 > 0:14:29the area should appeal to Shari and plenty of green areas suited

0:14:29 > 0:14:33to running and cycling, make it perfect for Karie, too.

0:14:33 > 0:14:36But will this three-bedroom cottage be somewhere

0:14:36 > 0:14:38the Atkins could make themselves at home?

0:14:42 > 0:14:45- Oh, yeah.- Wow! This is quite a nice little sitting-room, isn't it?

0:14:45 > 0:14:48Front lounge. It's much bigger than ours and...

0:14:48 > 0:14:51- Huge, compared to ours, yeah. - Really nicely decorated.

0:14:52 > 0:14:56The recently renovated interiors have plenty of charm

0:14:56 > 0:14:58and the master bedroom wins Shari over, too.

0:14:59 > 0:15:02- Really, really nicely done. - Yeah.- Isn't it?

0:15:04 > 0:15:08Unlike the last house, though, the bedrooms here aren't as big on space,

0:15:08 > 0:15:10but Shari's not too bothered.

0:15:10 > 0:15:14The rooms might be a little bit smaller, but I think it's quite nice

0:15:14 > 0:15:19because you've got the character of the property in it, not just boxes.

0:15:19 > 0:15:20Yeah.

0:15:20 > 0:15:23The house offers the open plan living Australian

0:15:23 > 0:15:24properties are coveted for,

0:15:24 > 0:15:29but it's the furniture and fittings that get Shari and Karie's attention.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32The decor, everything in here is absolutely beautiful.

0:15:32 > 0:15:36- Really cool, isn't it? - The bathroom has also been updated.

0:15:39 > 0:15:40Oh, wow!

0:15:40 > 0:15:42But it's not quite to their tastes.

0:15:42 > 0:15:47- Corner bath, not so keen on that myself.- Looks like it's a Jacuzzi.

0:15:47 > 0:15:51Again, not so keen, but... It's nice to have. It's a feature.

0:15:51 > 0:15:55Wandering outside, Karie is further underwhelmed in the garden.

0:15:55 > 0:15:59- You've got a house right there. - But, look at this.

0:15:59 > 0:16:01This space is beautiful.

0:16:01 > 0:16:05But I was expecting, maybe, a little bit of greenery.

0:16:05 > 0:16:07But think, no mowing the lawns,

0:16:07 > 0:16:11- so there's no gardening you have to do.- Yeah.

0:16:11 > 0:16:13Shari is skilfully keeping Karie on side.

0:16:13 > 0:16:17Now, all they need to do is find out how much this house costs.

0:16:17 > 0:16:21Their budget is £330,000.

0:16:21 > 0:16:24I reckon this is going to be 400,000.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26Yeah, I'm going to go 440.

0:16:26 > 0:16:28Let's see if anyone's right.

0:16:34 > 0:16:36Oh, my God! 353?

0:16:38 > 0:16:40Don't forget about the 600.

0:16:40 > 0:16:41That's really impressive.

0:16:41 > 0:16:43Yeah, I wish that was nearer the 300,

0:16:43 > 0:16:47but then we were expecting 400, so that's a really good surprise.

0:16:47 > 0:16:50Good way of thinking about it. I'm really impressed with that price.

0:16:50 > 0:16:55£23,000 over budget, cheaper than they thought.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58With the right jobs and salary, this house could be within reach.

0:17:00 > 0:17:03To see the final property, the couple head for Doubleview.

0:17:03 > 0:17:05Six miles north-west of central Perth

0:17:05 > 0:17:09and less than two miles from the beach, this thriving suburb

0:17:09 > 0:17:13offers a good compromise between beach and city living.

0:17:13 > 0:17:16- They're huge, though, aren't they? Some of these.- They are huge.

0:17:16 > 0:17:18I don't think any of these can be for us, surely.

0:17:18 > 0:17:22We think this immaculately presented house three-bedroomed house

0:17:22 > 0:17:25could be the couple's dream home. Will they agree?

0:17:25 > 0:17:27I mean, it's, sort of, a bit terracotta.

0:17:27 > 0:17:29I'm not sure about the style of it.

0:17:29 > 0:17:31It's lacking kerb appeal for Karie.

0:17:31 > 0:17:34Will the interiors be more desirable?

0:17:34 > 0:17:35Here we go.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39- OK.- It's a little bit more bright and airy in here

0:17:39 > 0:17:41than I thought it was going to be.

0:17:41 > 0:17:43First impressions are all right, actually.

0:17:43 > 0:17:46Obviously, the layout is a bit weird with the furniture,

0:17:46 > 0:17:48but, then, that's furniture.

0:17:48 > 0:17:49Moving into the heart of the home,

0:17:49 > 0:17:53- the main living area has plenty to offer.- This is good.

0:17:53 > 0:17:56- Look at this space.- This is a brilliant area, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:17:56 > 0:17:59Open plan. Looking out onto the garden, as well, which is cool.

0:17:59 > 0:18:03The interiors are modern and fresh, but Shari has a slight concern.

0:18:03 > 0:18:07I must admit, looking at the kitchen, a bit small.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09Yeah, I was going to say, kitchen is not massive

0:18:09 > 0:18:13but the fact that it's, kind of, open doesn't matter so much, maybe.

0:18:13 > 0:18:15The couple can see potential here,

0:18:15 > 0:18:19but the main family bathroom proves distinctly average.

0:18:19 > 0:18:23It's not a wow factor, but it's just very... It's nice, it's tidy.

0:18:23 > 0:18:26- It's practical.- It is practical. - It does the job.- Yeah.

0:18:26 > 0:18:29The house also has plenty of rooms for guests.

0:18:29 > 0:18:31What do you think of this as a main bedroom, though?

0:18:31 > 0:18:33It's a good size, isn't it?

0:18:33 > 0:18:35It's a really good size and you've got some really good views

0:18:35 > 0:18:37out of the window, as well.

0:18:37 > 0:18:41Inside is evoking mixed reactions and outside...

0:18:41 > 0:18:43Ha! Got a Jacuzzi.

0:18:43 > 0:18:46Or a very, very tiny swimming pool.

0:18:46 > 0:18:50The manicured north-facing secret garden is perfect for entertaining,

0:18:50 > 0:18:53but not quite what Karie or Shari was expecting.

0:18:54 > 0:18:56- It's quite... - Interesting.- Quite weird.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58That sunken feeling but, again, it is

0:18:58 > 0:19:01quite private but I'm not too sure about it.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04It may not be Shari or Karie's dream home after all

0:19:04 > 0:19:06but, with all the space they need,

0:19:06 > 0:19:11is it somewhere they could afford on their £330,000 budget?

0:19:11 > 0:19:12- Let's have a look.- Ready?- Yeah.

0:19:20 > 0:19:23379,700.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26That's around £50,000 over budget.

0:19:28 > 0:19:31Yeah, OK, I think this is all about location.

0:19:31 > 0:19:35If we were going to go nearly 50K over our budget,

0:19:35 > 0:19:38I'd want it to be a bit nicer than this.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41I was probably expecting a bit more for this kind of price,

0:19:41 > 0:19:44as well, but then I guess you're trading off against location because

0:19:44 > 0:19:49it's very near to the ocean and nearer to the city centre, as well.

0:19:49 > 0:19:50That's right, yes.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52It wasn't the perfect property but, overall,

0:19:52 > 0:19:56house-hunting has given Shari and Karie plenty to consider.

0:19:57 > 0:19:59Property one was almost perfect,

0:19:59 > 0:20:03with the huge garden Shari dreams of and the shed Karie longs for.

0:20:06 > 0:20:10The interiors of property two won both Karie and Shari over

0:20:10 > 0:20:12and, despite initial reservations about the garden,

0:20:12 > 0:20:14Karie could see himself settling in.

0:20:16 > 0:20:21The location of property three was perfect but, at almost £50,000

0:20:21 > 0:20:24over budget, the house fell short of being the couple's dream home.

0:20:26 > 0:20:29So, will the day have done enough to make both Shari and Karie pick

0:20:29 > 0:20:33Australian properties over the house they already have in the UK?

0:20:35 > 0:20:37Our vote is...

0:20:48 > 0:20:53- Australia.- Australia. - Woo! That's good.

0:20:53 > 0:20:56I'm really impressed with the houses we've seen today.

0:20:56 > 0:20:59Even I'm quite impressed with what we could, potentially, afford here.

0:20:59 > 0:21:03- Yeah.- I'm really, really stoked you chose Australia.- Cool.

0:21:13 > 0:21:17A vote for Australia from Karie means Shari's crusade is off

0:21:17 > 0:21:21to a flying start, but if she is to keep him by her side,

0:21:21 > 0:21:24laying his job concerns to rest will be crucial.

0:21:27 > 0:21:30Back home, Karie enjoys his work as a programme manager, looking after

0:21:30 > 0:21:33aircraft equipment repair contracts.

0:21:34 > 0:21:37It'll be really important for me to find something

0:21:37 > 0:21:39that is akin to what I do in the UK.

0:21:39 > 0:21:42Shari's been running her own company providing

0:21:42 > 0:21:46public relations for utility companies for the past three years,

0:21:46 > 0:21:49but she's prepared to give it all up to move back home.

0:21:49 > 0:21:53Ideally, I'd love to continue working for myself in Australia,

0:21:53 > 0:21:55however, I am quite open to the fact that

0:21:55 > 0:21:58I haven't got contacts behind me, so I might have to work for somebody

0:21:58 > 0:22:03else for a change, but I'm quite excited about something new, really.

0:22:04 > 0:22:07Karie, on the other hand, isn't as flexible.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09I think it will be really hard for me

0:22:09 > 0:22:14to consider a move without having the ability to see

0:22:14 > 0:22:17that I could get a good job and a good wage in Australia.

0:22:19 > 0:22:22As the couple prepare to gauge work prospects in Perth,

0:22:22 > 0:22:27Shari's anxious about how much the day really means for her and Karie.

0:22:27 > 0:22:30If things don't go to plan, then that's, you know...

0:22:30 > 0:22:35Ultimately it might be the end for us, and that's a horrible thought.

0:22:35 > 0:22:38We've arranged for Karie to meet Amy Nicholls,

0:22:38 > 0:22:41an executive consultant in the recruitment department

0:22:41 > 0:22:44of one of Australia's largest transport logistics companies.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47After a look around one of the warehouses,

0:22:47 > 0:22:49Karie's ready to talk business.

0:22:49 > 0:22:50You've seen my CV.

0:22:50 > 0:22:52I'd like to know whether I have transferable skills

0:22:52 > 0:22:54- that could work for this company. - Absolutely.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57The industry that you worked in is quite specialised,

0:22:57 > 0:22:59but the skills that you have in that role

0:22:59 > 0:23:02are quite generic and transformable.

0:23:02 > 0:23:05That's really put my mind at rest. I was really concerned about that.

0:23:05 > 0:23:07That's just what Karie needed to hear.

0:23:07 > 0:23:11Hopefully, the outlook will be as promising for Shari.

0:23:11 > 0:23:14She'd like to gain some experience in the local market before

0:23:14 > 0:23:18possibly setting up her own business, so we've arranged for her to meet

0:23:18 > 0:23:23Peter Harris, managing director of a global public relations consultancy.

0:23:23 > 0:23:25Shari welcomes the opportunity to look around,

0:23:25 > 0:23:28and when Peter shows her through to his office

0:23:28 > 0:23:31she's keen to explore her chances of securing a job here.

0:23:32 > 0:23:35Do you have any sort of placements available for someone like me?

0:23:35 > 0:23:40At the moment, there isn't any specific placements, but I would say

0:23:40 > 0:23:44that someone of your experience and skill sets,

0:23:44 > 0:23:47I believe you'd have a very strong chance

0:23:47 > 0:23:51of securing employment in that particular sector in WA.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54That is absolutely brilliant news.

0:23:54 > 0:23:57Shari might not walk into a job straight away,

0:23:57 > 0:24:02but knowing she'd make a desirable employee is encouraging news.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05Back at the logistics company, Karie has discovered, while the aviation

0:24:05 > 0:24:10industry in Perth is relatively small, other options are available.

0:24:11 > 0:24:14I would see you in the future looking to get towards

0:24:14 > 0:24:16- a project management role.- OK.

0:24:16 > 0:24:19However, you might have to take a bit of a step back to get

0:24:19 > 0:24:21some of your Australian experience,

0:24:21 > 0:24:24understand the culture and the way they work out here.

0:24:24 > 0:24:27Use a particular role as a kind of stepping stone.

0:24:27 > 0:24:29Say, a project coordinator, for example,

0:24:29 > 0:24:31in logistics maybe heavy haulage.

0:24:31 > 0:24:34That could be a really good foot in the door for you.

0:24:34 > 0:24:36OK, that sounds really interesting, actually.

0:24:36 > 0:24:40Karie is encouraged, but would the potential salary for a junior role

0:24:40 > 0:24:42be as promising?

0:24:42 > 0:24:46If you went into a project coordinator role, 40 to 45,000,

0:24:46 > 0:24:50you're probably looking at 60,000 plus for a project manager, pounds.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53That's a really impressive wage, actually.

0:24:53 > 0:24:56Karie earns around £38,000 in his current job,

0:24:56 > 0:25:00so, even though he'd be doing a different role down under,

0:25:00 > 0:25:01his prospects look good.

0:25:01 > 0:25:05Meanwhile, having discovered working hours in Perth would be similar

0:25:05 > 0:25:10to back home, Shari is investigating her earning potential as an employee.

0:25:10 > 0:25:14The starting point for someone with your experience, I would

0:25:14 > 0:25:20suggest would be in the approximate range of £57-£60,000,

0:25:20 > 0:25:23but then increasing as you gain

0:25:23 > 0:25:26further experience of the local marketplace.

0:25:26 > 0:25:28Well, thank you so much for your time today,

0:25:28 > 0:25:29I really do appreciate it.

0:25:29 > 0:25:33Outside, Shari admits the salary makes working for someone else

0:25:33 > 0:25:35an attractive option.

0:25:35 > 0:25:38It was almost double what I earn in the UK, for what seemed

0:25:38 > 0:25:41similar hours and the conditions were brilliant,

0:25:41 > 0:25:44so, that was a real plus for me.

0:25:45 > 0:25:47And, when she reunites with Karie,

0:25:47 > 0:25:49Shari is relieved to hear he's had a good day, too.

0:25:51 > 0:25:53It went really well, actually.

0:25:53 > 0:25:56- The good thing is my skills are transferable.- Fantastic.

0:25:56 > 0:25:59They talked about a project coordinator role,

0:25:59 > 0:26:01so it wouldn't be doing exactly the same thing,

0:26:01 > 0:26:04but I'd be looking at, maybe, similar to what

0:26:04 > 0:26:05I'm earning in the UK.

0:26:05 > 0:26:09Not as great as I was hoping for.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12That would be, like I say, a stepping stone.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15It's been positive all round, but will Karie's on-the-ground

0:26:15 > 0:26:18research be enough to see him fly the Australian flag

0:26:18 > 0:26:21when it comes to choosing between work at home or away?

0:26:21 > 0:26:24Today was a really important day finding out about job

0:26:24 > 0:26:27prospects in Australia and now it's time to vote.

0:26:38 > 0:26:40- Australia!- Australia!

0:26:40 > 0:26:43Woo! Awesome. I didn't think you'd go that.

0:26:43 > 0:26:46Well, I may have to take a step down in Australia, initially,

0:26:46 > 0:26:49but, you know, I really want this to work for us

0:26:49 > 0:26:52and if I need to make some compromises then, you know,

0:26:52 > 0:26:56- I think I can. I think I can do that.- Yay!

0:27:01 > 0:27:03Bowled over by Perth's properties and buoyed

0:27:03 > 0:27:07by potential job opportunities, one by one, Karie's

0:27:07 > 0:27:09concerns are being laid to rest.

0:27:09 > 0:27:12So will experiencing the Australian lifestyle

0:27:12 > 0:27:16Shari's longing to return to be enough to tempt him further?

0:27:18 > 0:27:21The couple enjoy an outdoor lifestyle in the UK.

0:27:21 > 0:27:24But, with Shari keen to add watersports to their repertoire,

0:27:24 > 0:27:27the pair head to Lake Leschenaultia, in Chidlow,

0:27:27 > 0:27:29to start their day with some canoeing.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31- Hiya.- How you doing?- Good, thanks.

0:27:31 > 0:27:34- There you go.- One-hour canoe hire? - Yeah, please, yeah.

0:27:35 > 0:27:39After a quick safety briefing, the couple are ready to go.

0:27:41 > 0:27:43- Here we go. - Are you ready?- Yeah.

0:27:43 > 0:27:47Just 45 minutes from the city, this former railway dam

0:27:47 > 0:27:51- is the perfect place to enjoy some time on the water.- Lovely, isn't it?

0:27:59 > 0:28:02Karie looks like he could have found a new sport.

0:28:02 > 0:28:06We do canoeing in the UK but the weather is fantastic,

0:28:06 > 0:28:11it's autumn, so it's really matching up quite nicely at the moment.

0:28:11 > 0:28:13And Shari looks right at home.

0:28:13 > 0:28:14How's the steering going?

0:28:14 > 0:28:17It just reinforces what I've always, you know,

0:28:17 > 0:28:19remembered Australia to be.

0:28:25 > 0:28:27Next, the pair hit the popular mountain biking trails

0:28:27 > 0:28:29of nearby Paulls Valley.

0:28:34 > 0:28:38Karie is an avid mountain biker back home, but Shari's hoping

0:28:38 > 0:28:41today will convince him there's plenty of scope for cycling

0:28:41 > 0:28:44down under, and it looks like she could be in luck.

0:28:44 > 0:28:46Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

0:28:46 > 0:28:49The trails in the UK are fantastic, but these are great too.

0:28:49 > 0:28:51It's just beautiful out here today.

0:28:51 > 0:28:54I can't really have a bad word to say about it, you know?

0:28:54 > 0:28:57Don't, you'll push me off!

0:28:59 > 0:29:02The afternoon has worked wonders on Karie

0:29:02 > 0:29:05and, as the couple round off their day with a picnic on Gooseberry Hill,

0:29:05 > 0:29:09Shari admits she's more determined than ever to come home.

0:29:12 > 0:29:15If Karie chooses not to want to come back,

0:29:15 > 0:29:17I will be gutted because this is...

0:29:17 > 0:29:19You know, it is everything that I want for us.

0:29:21 > 0:29:25But as the sun sets over Perth, it could yet be setting on her dream.

0:29:27 > 0:29:29These aren't just the things I have to consider.

0:29:29 > 0:29:32There are family, there are friends, there are the finances, you know,

0:29:32 > 0:29:34the reality of it all.

0:29:35 > 0:29:39The couple face some tough decisions come the end of the week,

0:29:39 > 0:29:43but has the lifestyle seduced Karie into choosing Australia over the UK?

0:29:46 > 0:29:49After an awesome day doing activities that we both love,

0:29:49 > 0:29:51our vote today will be...

0:30:04 > 0:30:05- BOTH:- Australia.

0:30:05 > 0:30:09- Woo! Did you? Really?- Yeah, yeah.

0:30:09 > 0:30:13I'm so, so happy that you've gone down the Oz route, for that,

0:30:13 > 0:30:16because I was actually concerned that, as much as you loved today,

0:30:16 > 0:30:18it wouldn't be enough to convince you.

0:30:18 > 0:30:20It was great, it was just absolutely great,

0:30:20 > 0:30:23and just today is kind of, like,

0:30:23 > 0:30:26starting to underline that we can potentially have a life

0:30:26 > 0:30:28in Australia that can match up equally

0:30:28 > 0:30:32- or, if not, better than the UK. So, yeah.- Yay! Cool.- Yeah.

0:30:42 > 0:30:45Karie's consistent votes for Australia are Shari's clearest

0:30:45 > 0:30:50signal yet she could soon return home with her husband by her side.

0:30:50 > 0:30:53But she still needs to prove the move won't rob them

0:30:53 > 0:30:54of financial stability.

0:30:54 > 0:30:58If she succeeds, the couple hope to sell their house in Wales

0:30:58 > 0:31:00for around £150,000.

0:31:00 > 0:31:03We've arranged for valuations from two estate agents

0:31:03 > 0:31:04to see if that's achievable.

0:31:06 > 0:31:08Ah, no!

0:31:12 > 0:31:13Sticky front door.

0:31:16 > 0:31:20- Wow! Lovely room.- Ah, OK. - Nice and bright. Nice floor.

0:31:23 > 0:31:26- Positive.- Yeah.- Nice space. This is really impressive.

0:31:26 > 0:31:29They're often quite small in these older houses, but this is lovely.

0:31:29 > 0:31:31And they've done a good job of the decor.

0:31:31 > 0:31:33It can be a bit dark, but they've really made it nice

0:31:33 > 0:31:36- and light with these colour schemes. - Awesome.

0:31:36 > 0:31:38What a nice garden. Really pleasant.

0:31:39 > 0:31:44Courtyard garden, plenty of storage space. Really nice.

0:31:44 > 0:31:47Ah, the main bedroom. That's a nice space, as well.

0:31:47 > 0:31:49Like the fact that it's south-facing, a lot of sun.

0:31:49 > 0:31:53It's onto the road, so maybe a bit of noise but it is double-glazed.

0:31:53 > 0:31:54This is sounding good, isn't it?

0:31:54 > 0:31:58Lovely, tasteful bathroom. Really modern, updated.

0:31:58 > 0:32:01Very, very nice indeed. Everything you could want.

0:32:03 > 0:32:10In the current market, I would value this property at £166,500

0:32:10 > 0:32:16and for a quick sale, I would value the property for 166,000.

0:32:16 > 0:32:18- That's great. - That was a quick sale.

0:32:18 > 0:32:23On the open market, today, I value this property at £185,000

0:32:23 > 0:32:27and for a quick sale I'd say £174,000.

0:32:27 > 0:32:29No! That is awesome.

0:32:29 > 0:32:33- That is seriously awesome. - Oh, my God.

0:32:33 > 0:32:36To have that cash behind us and stuff, is...

0:32:36 > 0:32:39- I know! 180.- I know. - That is incredible.

0:32:42 > 0:32:46Valuations exceeding expectations is a good start.

0:32:46 > 0:32:48The couple sit down to work out how much living in Australia

0:32:48 > 0:32:53would really cost, beginning with their weekly food shop.

0:32:53 > 0:32:57- Milk is cheaper.- Yep.- By £1, almost.

0:32:57 > 0:33:01Greens and vegetables seem to be a little bit more expensive here.

0:33:01 > 0:33:05- Eggs.- Eggs are more expensive. Tuna is a lot more expensive.

0:33:05 > 0:33:09Chopped tomatoes are way more expensive. That's weird, isn't it?

0:33:09 > 0:33:12The items add up to reveal they would spend around £10

0:33:12 > 0:33:14more on groceries every week.

0:33:16 > 0:33:18Next, the couple move on to the bigger bills,

0:33:18 > 0:33:22basing their mortgage repayment on the first property they viewed.

0:33:22 > 0:33:25Wow, that's a significant cost.

0:33:25 > 0:33:28It would be £1,000 more a month on the mortgage.

0:33:28 > 0:33:31But, I guess, at the end of the day we're upgrading.

0:33:31 > 0:33:35Don't get me wrong, that is a significant jump, isn't it?

0:33:35 > 0:33:39Fortunately, there are some savings to be made elsewhere.

0:33:39 > 0:33:42- Gas and electricity... - Cheaper here.

0:33:42 > 0:33:45Gas is. Electricity is more.

0:33:45 > 0:33:48Car running costs, they're kind of the same.

0:33:48 > 0:33:51Gym membership is the same. You can get rid of that cos

0:33:51 > 0:33:53we'll spend all our time outside, so that's good.

0:33:53 > 0:33:56Shari is desperate to make the sums work in her favour.

0:33:56 > 0:33:58Our monthly costs would then be...

0:33:59 > 0:34:02- Ooh.- 4,166.

0:34:03 > 0:34:09That's £828 more than they spend in the UK every month.

0:34:09 > 0:34:12- That's not good. - No, it's not good.

0:34:12 > 0:34:17Everything now rests on the couple's potential salaries down under.

0:34:17 > 0:34:23- OK, so, in Australia our wages will be, combined, £5,887.- OK.

0:34:23 > 0:34:28And in the UK they are £5,058.

0:34:30 > 0:34:31Wow.

0:34:31 > 0:34:33That's £829 more in Australia,

0:34:33 > 0:34:38and when they factor in those bigger bills they're back in the black.

0:34:38 > 0:34:43So, we would be one whole pound

0:34:43 > 0:34:46- better off here.- OK.

0:34:46 > 0:34:51£12 a year better off might not be life-changing, but Shari's

0:34:51 > 0:34:54just relieved to prove they can afford the lifestyle she wants.

0:34:56 > 0:34:59Can I do it? I told you so.

0:34:59 > 0:35:04- Nine years it's taken me to prove this to you.- No, I can see this now.

0:35:04 > 0:35:06This is starting to dawn on me that, actually, we can have...

0:35:06 > 0:35:09- A better house. - ..an upgrade. I know, I know.

0:35:09 > 0:35:13A back yard, a man cave, more lifestyle - need I say any more?

0:35:13 > 0:35:16No-brainer, surely, surely!

0:35:16 > 0:35:19I can't argue with you on this, can I, really?

0:35:19 > 0:35:21It's there in black and white.

0:35:21 > 0:35:23It's a great outcome for Shari,

0:35:23 > 0:35:27but will the figures have done enough to put Karie on the same page

0:35:27 > 0:35:31when it comes to choosing between finances in Australia or the UK?

0:35:31 > 0:35:33It's now time to vote.

0:35:44 > 0:35:50Australia. Yay! Yay!

0:35:51 > 0:35:54There is still a hell of a lot going on in my mind.

0:35:54 > 0:35:56I can see that, yeah.

0:35:56 > 0:35:58But, you know, I can't argue with you any longer

0:35:58 > 0:36:02- or stick my head in the sand. It's like...- Yes!

0:36:02 > 0:36:05Convinced the finances can work, Shari's attempts at selling

0:36:05 > 0:36:09her homeland to Karie seem to be paying off.

0:36:09 > 0:36:12But there's still one final fence to clear.

0:36:12 > 0:36:15As the couple sit down to watch messages from loved ones at home,

0:36:15 > 0:36:19Shari knows this could be the thing that keeps Karie rooted to the UK.

0:36:19 > 0:36:23- So, are we ready for this? - Yeah, let's do it.- Yeah.

0:36:26 > 0:36:27Hi, Karie and Shari.

0:36:27 > 0:36:30Hope you're well and having a fab time in Australia.

0:36:30 > 0:36:33Hello, Karie and Shari.

0:36:33 > 0:36:35- BOTH:- Hi, guys.

0:36:35 > 0:36:36Hope you're having an amazing time.

0:36:36 > 0:36:39- Hope the sun is shining. - And hi from Austin. Hi.

0:36:41 > 0:36:45- They bounce off each other. Both full of energy. Brilliant couple.- Ah.

0:36:45 > 0:36:48Karie, as a man today, he's very caring.

0:36:48 > 0:36:52- I don't think you could meet a nicer man.- Ah.

0:36:52 > 0:36:56Shari is great. She's really welcoming, she's very friendly.

0:36:56 > 0:37:00I think it must be kind of the Australian-ness in her.

0:37:00 > 0:37:04Shari is one of the best friends you could possibly ask for.

0:37:04 > 0:37:07It's important that Karie does what he wants to do,

0:37:07 > 0:37:11not just for Shari but for himself.

0:37:11 > 0:37:13He was my first grandchild, you see,

0:37:13 > 0:37:16so he's always been that little bit special.

0:37:17 > 0:37:23I shall really upset myself before he goes.

0:37:23 > 0:37:27Karie and Shari, you probably mean more to me than you know you do,

0:37:27 > 0:37:29but at the same time I think

0:37:29 > 0:37:31this is an incredible opportunity for you...

0:37:31 > 0:37:34- Good work, Bambi.- ..and I think you should go for it.

0:37:34 > 0:37:36I'm going to miss you guys more than you can believe,

0:37:36 > 0:37:39but I truly want you to be happy.

0:37:39 > 0:37:41Shari, I think we already know you've made up your mind,

0:37:41 > 0:37:45so, Karie, this is down to you, mate. We will miss you.

0:37:45 > 0:37:50I just want you to know that, whatever you decide,

0:37:50 > 0:37:52then I am 100% happy.

0:37:54 > 0:37:58Well, Karie and Shari, I shall miss you very, very much,

0:37:58 > 0:38:00and you know how much I love you.

0:38:06 > 0:38:10- Likewise.- Ah, miss your gran.

0:38:10 > 0:38:13- That was quite a hard watch, wasn't it?- Yeah.- Are you all right?

0:38:13 > 0:38:16- Yeah, sorry. - They're not going to go away.

0:38:16 > 0:38:17We're not going to lose them.

0:38:17 > 0:38:22It's going to be a real big thing to overcome, I think, for me.

0:38:22 > 0:38:25I knew it was going to be difficult. I didn't know quite...

0:38:25 > 0:38:27- How difficult. - ...yeah, how difficult it was

0:38:27 > 0:38:29seeing them, you know.

0:38:29 > 0:38:32- This was always going to be the hardest bit, wasn't it?- Yeah.

0:38:32 > 0:38:33Always.

0:38:36 > 0:38:39The prospect of leaving family has always been

0:38:39 > 0:38:42a stumbling block for Karie, and actually hearing

0:38:42 > 0:38:47heartfelt messages from home has only magnified his concerns.

0:38:47 > 0:38:51After being consistently sold on Australia all week,

0:38:51 > 0:38:54will his strong emotional ties to the UK

0:38:54 > 0:38:57now see Shari's dream for their future unravel?

0:38:59 > 0:39:02When they arrived a week ago, Shari was on a mission to convince

0:39:02 > 0:39:05her husband they could make a great life for themselves

0:39:05 > 0:39:07in her native country,

0:39:07 > 0:39:10and the last seven days have shown plenty of potential.

0:39:10 > 0:39:12I've felt exceptionally at home.

0:39:12 > 0:39:15It's reinforced everything I believed about Australia.

0:39:15 > 0:39:18It's been a brilliant week, it's been so, so good.

0:39:18 > 0:39:20I've had some awesome experiences this week.

0:39:20 > 0:39:24It has shown me that, you know, there could be a life here for us.

0:39:26 > 0:39:29Karie has voted Australia throughout the week,

0:39:29 > 0:39:32but the reality of putting half a world between him

0:39:32 > 0:39:35and everyone he loves back home is playing on his mind.

0:39:36 > 0:39:40I've got a fantastic wife that I love very much,

0:39:40 > 0:39:44but I've also got a family in the UK and I am and always will be a Brit

0:39:44 > 0:39:48that loves the UK and it's...

0:39:48 > 0:39:50It's, er...

0:39:52 > 0:39:54It's a real dilemma for me, this.

0:39:54 > 0:39:58I think watching the friends and family clips

0:39:58 > 0:40:00has really kind of dented him a little bit

0:40:00 > 0:40:03and kind of made him really question what,

0:40:03 > 0:40:06you know, what he will be leaving behind.

0:40:07 > 0:40:10Having rediscovered life on her home turf,

0:40:10 > 0:40:14Shari's more determined than ever to get the life she wants.

0:40:14 > 0:40:17I want this so much.

0:40:17 > 0:40:20I don't want it to get back into the situation we had before

0:40:20 > 0:40:24of, you know, it's just forgotten about and then we are kind of

0:40:24 > 0:40:29back to where we are, because it's been nine years and it's been hard.

0:40:32 > 0:40:34A flip of a coin almost 15 years ago

0:40:34 > 0:40:36meant Shari met the man of her dreams.

0:40:36 > 0:40:41Now a turn of flags will decide if she has a future with him.

0:40:41 > 0:40:45I love her so much and I know she's hoping

0:40:45 > 0:40:47for a good decision from me and...

0:40:50 > 0:40:55You know, I know I've got to go with my own decision here, but I...

0:40:55 > 0:40:57You know, I don't want to...

0:40:57 > 0:40:58I don't want to lose her.

0:40:58 > 0:41:02Whatever decision I make, I don't want to lose her.

0:41:02 > 0:41:05If Karie voted to stay in the UK, that's kind of putting

0:41:05 > 0:41:09a bit of a nail in our coffin, because I can't wait around forever.

0:41:09 > 0:41:10I just think...

0:41:10 > 0:41:13I think I'll be done with waiting.

0:41:20 > 0:41:21Sorry.

0:41:23 > 0:41:27It's crunch time for the couple as Shari ultimately finds out

0:41:27 > 0:41:31if she'll be moving home, with or without her husband by her side.

0:41:31 > 0:41:35After nine years and a trial week in Perth, our decision is...

0:41:48 > 0:41:50- BOTH:- Australia.

0:41:50 > 0:41:53- Did you really?- Yeah.

0:41:58 > 0:42:02Ah. That's awesome.

0:42:02 > 0:42:05I am just absolutely relieved, actually,

0:42:05 > 0:42:08that you chose to go Australia.

0:42:08 > 0:42:10I think it's awesome and I'm really excited.

0:42:10 > 0:42:12The thought of leaving my family in the UK

0:42:12 > 0:42:15and the thought of leave leaving the UK full stop

0:42:15 > 0:42:16just completely tears me up.

0:42:16 > 0:42:22Seeing it with my own eyes and kind of experiencing it all with you

0:42:22 > 0:42:25has just made me realise, like,

0:42:25 > 0:42:30this will make me happy as much as it will make you happy.

0:42:30 > 0:42:32It just... It just means the world.

0:42:34 > 0:42:38- It means the world to me too. - I know.- You mean the world to me.

0:42:38 > 0:42:39Ah, bless you.

0:42:56 > 0:43:01It's been a long time coming but, nine years after the first

0:43:01 > 0:43:05discussions about Australia, the waiting is finally over for Shari

0:43:05 > 0:43:10as Karie commits once and for all to her dream of returning home.

0:43:10 > 0:43:14We wish them a long and happy future as they prepare to start

0:43:14 > 0:43:17a brand-new life down under together.
