0:00:04 > 0:00:07your family life has hit rock bottom.

0:00:07 > 0:00:08And you feel stuck in a rut

0:00:08 > 0:00:10with no way out.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12You could be tempted to take drastic action.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15But would you risk giving up everything you had at home

0:00:15 > 0:00:18to move to the other side of the world?

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Gruelling working weeks are ruining the Baigents' lives.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24It's just constant. I don't stop.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27We go two to three days without even seeing the children.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30They've resurrected a long-held dream to move to Australia.

0:00:30 > 0:00:34But when a real taste of life there doesn't always impress...

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Oh, my God. It's like a coffin.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38I have probably not seen enough

0:00:38 > 0:00:41to still make me, like, 100% want to move here.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44Will the family be forced to stick with what they've got at home?

0:00:44 > 0:00:47I'd be gutted if it came to the reality

0:00:47 > 0:00:49that this wasn't going to work for us.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18Every day, around 23 British families leave the UK behind

0:01:18 > 0:01:21to start a new life in Australia.

0:01:21 > 0:01:25They're drawn by the lure of a land with over 10,000 beaches

0:01:25 > 0:01:28and an average temperature of over 20 degrees.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37On the surface, the Baigent family appear to have it all.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41A beautiful home, a loving family and successful careers.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43But it comes at a cost.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47Mum Deborah and dad Steve have no quality time with their children

0:01:47 > 0:01:50and working round the clock is beginning to take its toll

0:01:50 > 0:01:52on Deborah's health.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Desperate for change, the couple are pinning

0:01:54 > 0:01:58all their hopes on a move to Australia being the solution.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01Now, they've just one week to discover

0:02:01 > 0:02:05if the country really can transform their lives.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12The Baigents' trial week begins with 20 hours in the air.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16Travelling from London to Adelaide via Kuala Lumpur.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Having finally touched down,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20dad Steve's pretty laid back about the trip.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24Long journey but it went fairly quickly.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26But mum Deborah didn't find it as easy.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28When you think the first flight's quite long,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31and then you have to do it again, then it makes you realise

0:02:31 > 0:02:34just how far away we are from all our relatives.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38When it comes to the week ahead, Logan's got mixed emotions...

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Bit excited and a bit scared.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43..while Mum and Dad are just keeping their fingers crossed

0:02:43 > 0:02:47Australia will be everything they've been dreaming of.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49I'm really excited about the week ahead and I'm quite positive,

0:02:49 > 0:02:53as well, that this would be a good beginning for us, I think.

0:02:53 > 0:02:54We really want this to happen

0:02:54 > 0:02:57and I hope it lives up to everything we expect it to.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00And Gemma? Well, she's to be convinced.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04Hoping to make this one swing more our way of thinking.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06It's a big week for me though

0:03:06 > 0:03:09because I don't know if I want to move or not so...

0:03:09 > 0:03:11this can help me decide.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14Ahead of the family lie seven days to discover

0:03:14 > 0:03:18if they can achieve the life Deborah and Steve have been dreaming of.

0:03:22 > 0:03:27The Baigents - dad Steve, mum Deborah, 13-year-old Gemma

0:03:27 > 0:03:30and seven-year-old Logan hail from Swindon, in Wiltshire.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36Deborah and Steve first got together when serving in the Armed Forces.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41- I was her boss in Northern Ireland. - Only by one rank.- By one rank.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44- Only one rank.- That was enough.

0:03:44 > 0:03:4718 years later, though, Deborah's the one pulling rank.

0:03:49 > 0:03:50Without a doubt, I'm in charge.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55One thing the couple did both agree on

0:03:55 > 0:03:57from early in their relationship

0:03:57 > 0:03:59was the idea of settling in Australia.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02We were getting married in a reception,

0:04:02 > 0:04:04- then we were speaking about it then to people, weren't we?- Mm-hm.

0:04:04 > 0:04:09But in 2004, tragic news brought any plans for a move

0:04:09 > 0:04:11to a devastating halt.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14Gemma was on my lap and I got a phone call from a woman in London

0:04:14 > 0:04:18and all I was informed was

0:04:18 > 0:04:19that Steve had been shot

0:04:19 > 0:04:22so I didn't know whether he was alive or dead.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25Working on an assignment for a private company in Iraq,

0:04:25 > 0:04:29Steve had stumbled into a deadly ambush and was shot in both legs.

0:04:29 > 0:04:33There was a big skirmish firefight

0:04:33 > 0:04:35and four of us got shot that day.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37One was fatal and was killed.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44Steve's traumatic close shave with death

0:04:44 > 0:04:48meant the couple immediately reassessed their priorities.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53It instantly brought home what we were doing out there.

0:04:53 > 0:04:54You could end up widowing your wife

0:04:54 > 0:04:57and your children brought up with no father.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59But it was just horrific, to be honest,

0:04:59 > 0:05:01and I think it put a big thing...

0:05:01 > 0:05:05What's important in life was that we were OK.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09As Steve recuperated, the couple embarked on civilian careers

0:05:09 > 0:05:13and built up a comfortable life in the UK.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16But 11 years on, it's those very jobs that have brought

0:05:16 > 0:05:17the Australian dream back.

0:05:20 > 0:05:22Running her own childcare company,

0:05:22 > 0:05:25Deborah's now working up to 70 hours a week.

0:05:25 > 0:05:26It's just constant.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29I don't have a lunch break, I don't stop.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32She's almost spent her whole life around the business

0:05:32 > 0:05:34and you can see it takes a toll on her.

0:05:34 > 0:05:39Things aren't any better for telecoms engineer Steve.

0:05:39 > 0:05:41I generally work 150 miles away.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43So I'll do a 16-hour day.

0:05:43 > 0:05:47The couple's busy careers are playing havoc with family life.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50I come back from school

0:05:50 > 0:05:51and sometimes they're not here.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54And they come back... Like, my mum comes back really late.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56I can't carry on doing this.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59I just need... I think it's more important for my own children

0:05:59 > 0:06:02and my own health and my marriage

0:06:02 > 0:06:07that I do find a balance in life and in work as well.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10Her working hours have already seen Deborah face a health scare.

0:06:10 > 0:06:142012, I was taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack.

0:06:14 > 0:06:16And I was told by the doctor it was a warning,

0:06:16 > 0:06:19that I need to start taking a step back,

0:06:19 > 0:06:21which I haven't done.

0:06:25 > 0:06:26Desperate for change,

0:06:26 > 0:06:31the couple have once more set their sights on moving to Australia.

0:06:31 > 0:06:33Steve and I definitely want to emigrate now.

0:06:33 > 0:06:37I hope that if we do, we have more quality time

0:06:37 > 0:06:40so we have that time when we finish work

0:06:40 > 0:06:43we at least have a couple of hours where we can do stuff with the kids.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45But, unfortunately, their vision of their family's future

0:06:45 > 0:06:47isn't shared by their children.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50While Logan's firmly on the fence...

0:06:50 > 0:06:52'It is quite good.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55'I reckon it's good weather and all but...'

0:06:57 > 0:07:00..then I might not make any friends.

0:07:00 > 0:07:03..Gemma could be a lot harder to win round.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06When we first mentioned and tried to show Gemma

0:07:06 > 0:07:10things on the internet about moving to Australia,

0:07:10 > 0:07:14she point-blank wouldn't even look at the screen,

0:07:14 > 0:07:16wouldn't even engage in the conversation.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19I don't want to go to Australia at the moment because

0:07:19 > 0:07:22I've had my life in the UK for 12 years

0:07:22 > 0:07:24and it's all I know

0:07:24 > 0:07:27and I've got friends and family.

0:07:27 > 0:07:28If they're ever to make the move,

0:07:28 > 0:07:31Deborah and Steve know it has to be soon.

0:07:31 > 0:07:33- Time's running out. - At our age

0:07:33 > 0:07:34and the children's...

0:07:34 > 0:07:36And the children's education as well. Yeah.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40We are at the point where we need to do it now or never.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43Whether or not they can finally achieve the life they want

0:07:43 > 0:07:45will become clear over the next seven days.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58The family are spending their trial week visiting Adelaide,

0:07:58 > 0:08:02the driest Australian state capital is a popular destination for Brits

0:08:02 > 0:08:04seeking a life in the sun.

0:08:07 > 0:08:09Home for the week is a modern two-storey townhouse

0:08:09 > 0:08:11in Christies Beach -

0:08:11 > 0:08:12a family-friendly suburb

0:08:12 > 0:08:15around 40 minutes' drive south of the city centre.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19That's nice.

0:08:20 > 0:08:23Outside, first impressions are good.

0:08:23 > 0:08:24It's lovely.

0:08:26 > 0:08:30- Wow.- And the positive vibes continue inside.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32- That's a nice, big room, isn't it? - Wow.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Reminds me slightly of home so...

0:08:34 > 0:08:36That's Steve settled,

0:08:36 > 0:08:39but while their temporary home setting has Deborah happy...

0:08:39 > 0:08:42- Look at that. Look at that view. - We could have dinner outside!

0:08:42 > 0:08:45- Yeah!- Come see the sea.- It's lovely.

0:08:45 > 0:08:48..her reaction outside is a sign she could be hard to please

0:08:48 > 0:08:50when it comes to Aussie homes.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53I thought all Australian gardens have a barbecue.

0:08:53 > 0:08:57But it's nice, it's nice for what we're going to use it for this week.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00But I wouldn't buy a garden in Australia with a house like this.

0:09:00 > 0:09:04I'd like to...have a bit more room to grow in it.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06As the family settle in,

0:09:06 > 0:09:07the realisation of what's at stake

0:09:07 > 0:09:10in the next couple of days is sinking in with Steve.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13'This week is make or break, really.'

0:09:13 > 0:09:16I'd be gutted if it came to the reality

0:09:16 > 0:09:18that this wasn't going to work for us

0:09:18 > 0:09:20and we were going back to stay.

0:09:20 > 0:09:23Getting Logan and Gemma on board will be key.

0:09:23 > 0:09:27Our biggest concerns are, obviously, the children.

0:09:27 > 0:09:29Just make sure that they're fully happy with it.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31But while Deborah thinks Australia

0:09:31 > 0:09:33is already having a positive effect...

0:09:33 > 0:09:35'We do want to move over'

0:09:35 > 0:09:37and I think the kids already are starting to be swayed

0:09:37 > 0:09:39just by seeing the beach and so on today.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42..that may not be quite the case.

0:09:42 > 0:09:46I'm a bit nervous too just thinking that I don't make any friends.

0:09:47 > 0:09:51I'm still not sure if I want to move to Australia or not because...

0:09:53 > 0:09:55..like, I've only been here for one day.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57And it's got nice weather and everything

0:09:57 > 0:09:59but there's a lot more to think about.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01Deborah and Steve's dream of a life down under

0:10:01 > 0:10:04will live or die in the next few days.

0:10:14 > 0:10:18Back in the UK, the Baigents live in a four-bedroom detached house

0:10:18 > 0:10:20which they worked hard to make a home.

0:10:21 > 0:10:23- I love our house... - Yeah.- ..in the UK.

0:10:23 > 0:10:25We're really happy with this house now.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28Which is really funny cos now we're looking at emigrating.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32The family's budget for buying a house in Australia

0:10:32 > 0:10:34would be £300,000.

0:10:34 > 0:10:38And Deborah's got a long list of must-haves.

0:10:38 > 0:10:40My dream house in Australia...

0:10:41 > 0:10:44..would have lots of light.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46I'd like a pool and lots of space.

0:10:46 > 0:10:50That's really important. A good garden.

0:10:50 > 0:10:51Big double garage.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53I'd like to be by the beach.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56- A view...- Of the sea.- ..of the sea.

0:10:57 > 0:10:58That's it, really. Not that much.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01Nice kitchen.

0:11:01 > 0:11:02- Not much.- Not much.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09To find out what kind of house the Baigents

0:11:09 > 0:11:12could call home in Australia, today we'll show Steve

0:11:12 > 0:11:14and Deborah three properties.

0:11:14 > 0:11:19Two on budget and a third which could be their dream house.

0:11:19 > 0:11:23Only after they have seen each one will they discover its value.

0:11:26 > 0:11:27For their first viewing,

0:11:27 > 0:11:29the family head just ten minutes inland

0:11:29 > 0:11:32from Christies Beach to Morphett Vale.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34The suburb has shops, schools and parks dotted throughout

0:11:34 > 0:11:38so could be ideal for the family.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41But will property one live up to Deborah's high standards?

0:11:41 > 0:11:45- So, what do you think so far? - Looks dark and dirty.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47Very sort of small and dark

0:11:47 > 0:11:49and I don't like the road, that's too busy.

0:11:50 > 0:11:52Not the best of starts.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54Inside, the hallway gets a good reaction.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58- That's nice, dear. - Yeah, that's a nice entrance.

0:11:58 > 0:12:02But a step inside a bedroom sees things go downhill quickly.

0:12:02 > 0:12:04I don't like the fact...

0:12:04 > 0:12:07a room would face onto a main road for safety.

0:12:07 > 0:12:10Kids sleeping here, I wouldn't have that.

0:12:10 > 0:12:12- LOGAN:- I like the bed. - Where's the windows?

0:12:13 > 0:12:15- It's dark. - GEMMA:- So, would this be your room?

0:12:15 > 0:12:20The window goes on to the garage. Oh, my God. It's like a coffin.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23The lack of light isn't going down well with anyone.

0:12:23 > 0:12:28It's horrible. I'm sorry, but it is like a cupboard

0:12:28 > 0:12:30onto a garage.

0:12:30 > 0:12:34And it's dark and it's depressing.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36It's not coming up to expectations at all at the moment.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39Will upstairs fare any better?

0:12:40 > 0:12:42- This is nice. - Nice, this. This is nice.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44- I like the floor. - Oh, that's lovely.

0:12:47 > 0:12:52The spacious open living area holds much more appeal.

0:12:52 > 0:12:53That is really nice. What a difference.

0:12:53 > 0:12:55It's like a different house.

0:12:55 > 0:12:57- The house seems more modern all of a sudden.- Yeah.

0:12:57 > 0:13:00And the view out to the garden - it looks really nice.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02On the veranda, something in the garden

0:13:02 > 0:13:04catches Deborah's eye.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07- Is that their tennis court there, is that a tennis court?- Yeah.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10Not only does this house come with a tennis court

0:13:10 > 0:13:13but a swimming pool and heated spa too.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16That's lovely, isn't it? What do you think, Gemma?

0:13:16 > 0:13:18- I like the pool. - You like the pool.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20Spotting a positive reaction from Gemma,

0:13:20 > 0:13:22Steve's quick to seize the opportunity

0:13:22 > 0:13:25with a subtle bit of suggestive selling.

0:13:25 > 0:13:28Do you think your pals would like to come round here after school?

0:13:28 > 0:13:30- Yeah. - LOGAN: If we clean it...

0:13:30 > 0:13:35But, yeah, I like it now, the house. You forget about the front.

0:13:35 > 0:13:37It would be great to come home just so we can all be outside

0:13:37 > 0:13:40and be active in the sun and playing in the pool.

0:13:40 > 0:13:42After a shaky start,

0:13:42 > 0:13:46this home's outdoor space has won everyone round.

0:13:46 > 0:13:51But is it something they could afford on their £300,000 budget?

0:13:51 > 0:13:54I'll be optimistic and say 285.

0:13:54 > 0:13:58I think it's going to be worth 274,000.

0:14:05 > 0:14:06Go.

0:14:08 > 0:14:11- DEBORAH GASPS - Oh, my God.- You were closest.

0:14:11 > 0:14:13- I was closest, yeah. - That's a lot.

0:14:13 > 0:14:15Wow.

0:14:15 > 0:14:16That must be the garden.

0:14:16 > 0:14:21It's only £4,000 under budget but Steve's staying upbeat.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24It's below our budget, which is what we were hoping it would be,

0:14:24 > 0:14:26and there's a lot more to gain

0:14:26 > 0:14:28which we weren't expecting this house to have.

0:14:28 > 0:14:29I think it's a good start.

0:14:29 > 0:14:33Yeah. Maybe I was being too optimistic saying 274.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35All right, then, mate. Let's go.

0:14:36 > 0:14:37Come on.

0:14:43 > 0:14:46The family head off to view property two.

0:14:46 > 0:14:49It's situated in the suburb of Aldinga Beach.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51Though it's further from Adelaide than the last house,

0:14:51 > 0:14:54the area's impressive stretches of sand

0:14:54 > 0:14:56offer the beach-side living Deborah wants.

0:14:56 > 0:14:59I was really impressed on the drive in.

0:14:59 > 0:15:02It seemed like a really nice, wealthy sort of area.

0:15:02 > 0:15:04What do you like about it, Gemma?

0:15:04 > 0:15:08- It's really close to the sea. - Really close to the sea?- Yeah.

0:15:08 > 0:15:10- LOGAN:- Shall we go in? - Yeah, go in there, Loges.

0:15:10 > 0:15:13The setting could suit Gemma to a T.

0:15:13 > 0:15:15- And inside...- Whoa.

0:15:15 > 0:15:16That's nice.

0:15:16 > 0:15:19Oh, straight into the living room. Oh, that's unusual.

0:15:19 > 0:15:20That's cool though.

0:15:20 > 0:15:21- Do you like it?- Yeah.

0:15:21 > 0:15:25Steve, though, just isn't getting the right vibe.

0:15:25 > 0:15:27First impressions, the living room is quite small.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30- Yeah.- It could be quite a small property.

0:15:30 > 0:15:34Space could be an issue and the bedrooms reinforce his fears.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37- This will be my bed. - Teeny, weeny, weeny.

0:15:38 > 0:15:40It seems very...

0:15:40 > 0:15:41Claustrophobic.

0:15:41 > 0:15:43Maybe the top bit will make it better.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45Good point, Logan,

0:15:45 > 0:15:48but upstairs Steve isn't pulling any punches.

0:15:48 > 0:15:50I think from start to finish,

0:15:50 > 0:15:53- since we've come to this house, there's been no wow factor.- No.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55None at all.

0:15:55 > 0:15:58- I almost expected this layout as I walked up the stairs.- Yeah, I did.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00And out on the balcony,

0:16:00 > 0:16:03Deborah discovers a hidden quality that causes quite a stink.

0:16:05 > 0:16:07- LOGAN:- Mm, amazing smell. - Is it?

0:16:07 > 0:16:11The fragrance from a fast food outlet isn't to everyone's taste.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14I know I like chips but I don't want to live beside a chippy.

0:16:14 > 0:16:17Joking aside, the house just doesn't match Deborah's vision

0:16:17 > 0:16:20of their ideal future home.

0:16:20 > 0:16:22We're trying to see if we can get a house

0:16:22 > 0:16:25that's the same as or better than what we've got in the UK.

0:16:25 > 0:16:27It doesn't matter if you can see the sea,

0:16:27 > 0:16:29this isn't better than what we've got.

0:16:29 > 0:16:32- Is it?- No.

0:16:32 > 0:16:34It may not be a home that they're happy with

0:16:34 > 0:16:36but could their 300,000 budget

0:16:36 > 0:16:39actually buy them a slice of beach-side living?

0:16:39 > 0:16:42I think it's going to be priced

0:16:42 > 0:16:45at an asking price for about 390.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48I think it will be 350.

0:16:57 > 0:17:00That's just £7,000 over budget.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04That's really good cos that means that...

0:17:04 > 0:17:07We could still afford a nice house

0:17:07 > 0:17:10and I was expecting this to be way over budget.

0:17:10 > 0:17:12All right, let's go.

0:17:12 > 0:17:14Let's go then, wee man.

0:17:18 > 0:17:19Moving back towards Adelaide,

0:17:19 > 0:17:23the family head on to what we think could be their dream home.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26It's located in the desirable coastal suburb of Seaford

0:17:26 > 0:17:30which boasts a new railway link to the city centre.

0:17:30 > 0:17:34And property three - only a short five-minute drive to the beach -

0:17:34 > 0:17:37gets a great reaction from Deborah from the get-go.

0:17:37 > 0:17:40Oh, it's beautiful.

0:17:40 > 0:17:42DEBORAH LAUGHS

0:17:42 > 0:17:45This is the one, apart from possibly the budget.

0:17:47 > 0:17:50The rapturous response continues inside.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53- Where do we sign? - Look at the chandeliers!

0:17:53 > 0:17:55This spacious property boasts four bedrooms and bathrooms,

0:17:55 > 0:17:58several informal and formal living areas

0:17:58 > 0:18:01and views to die for from the balcony.

0:18:03 > 0:18:06- Beautiful.- Yeah, it's stunning, it's what we're looking for.

0:18:06 > 0:18:08- But we can't afford this.- No.

0:18:08 > 0:18:10You don't know that yet, Deborah.

0:18:10 > 0:18:12Oh, I love it!

0:18:12 > 0:18:14- It's the Xbox room!- The games room.

0:18:14 > 0:18:16Logan's happy...

0:18:16 > 0:18:18I think it's awesome.

0:18:18 > 0:18:19..as is Mum.

0:18:19 > 0:18:23- I agree. I can't find anything... - Wrong with it.

0:18:23 > 0:18:25..wrong with it at all.

0:18:25 > 0:18:27The large bedrooms are winners.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29Oh, wow.

0:18:29 > 0:18:30And Steve...

0:18:30 > 0:18:32I can't find a fault with this house at all.

0:18:32 > 0:18:36Everything's laid out perfectly. It's a proper dream home.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39The whole family have fallen for this house, including Gemma.

0:18:39 > 0:18:43- I'd move to the other side of the world for this.- Wow, would you?

0:18:43 > 0:18:45- LOGAN:- It's so good, I'm speechless.

0:18:45 > 0:18:46DEBORAH GASPS

0:18:51 > 0:18:56Logan's silence doesn't last long when he spots what's outside though.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58- There's a swimming pool! - DEBORAH LAUGHS

0:18:58 > 0:19:02I love it. I could see us living here.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05If we get the right jobs. This house is the dream.

0:19:05 > 0:19:07It's the perfect home for the Baigents

0:19:07 > 0:19:09and Deborah's delighted.

0:19:09 > 0:19:12- I just wish we could move here and move in here.- Yeah.

0:19:12 > 0:19:16But could this dream home really be within the family's grasp

0:19:16 > 0:19:18and their £300,000 budget?

0:19:18 > 0:19:21- Here we go. - Our dreams will be shattered.

0:19:21 > 0:19:24So, I reckon 525.

0:19:24 > 0:19:27Yeah, I think over 500, definitely. Out of our reach.

0:19:35 > 0:19:38- Shall I do it?- Yeah. - One, two, three...

0:19:38 > 0:19:41- DEBORAH GASPS - Oh, my God!

0:19:41 > 0:19:45- Oh, my God!- No way.- No way! Ah!

0:19:45 > 0:19:49It may be over budget but not by nearly as much as they feared.

0:19:49 > 0:19:51Oh, my God, I'm amazed.

0:19:51 > 0:19:53- Are you impressed?- Yeah.- Yeah?

0:19:53 > 0:19:57- I think it's definitely something we could afford.- Yeah.

0:19:57 > 0:20:00If we get our jobs, the size of it and everything,

0:20:00 > 0:20:03it would be worth working hard for.

0:20:03 > 0:20:05Just buy it. Just buy it now.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07Right, let's go and sell our house in Swindon.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12It may have started slowly

0:20:12 > 0:20:15but the family's day house-hunting in the Adelaide suburbs

0:20:15 > 0:20:17ended on a more positive note.

0:20:19 > 0:20:21Property one had a dingy downstairs

0:20:21 > 0:20:22but its pool and tennis court

0:20:22 > 0:20:24were a definite selling point.

0:20:24 > 0:20:27Property two's beach-side location was a bonus

0:20:27 > 0:20:30but the chip shop nearby was anything but.

0:20:30 > 0:20:33The final property bowled the Baigents over.

0:20:33 > 0:20:35Offering all the space they could need

0:20:35 > 0:20:37even if it was slightly over budget.

0:20:38 > 0:20:41So, has a taste of the houses they could call home

0:20:41 > 0:20:44been enough for everyone to choose properties in Australia

0:20:44 > 0:20:45over those in the UK?

0:20:47 > 0:20:49Based on the properties we've viewed today,

0:20:49 > 0:20:50our vote goes to...

0:21:06 > 0:21:08- Australia!- Australia! - LOGAN:- Australia!

0:21:08 > 0:21:12- Whoa!- I did Australia! - Well done, Logan.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14Why did you vote for Australia?

0:21:14 > 0:21:16Because I think Australia is awesome.

0:21:16 > 0:21:18You think Australia is awesome?

0:21:18 > 0:21:19I voted undecided

0:21:19 > 0:21:22because we only liked one of the houses we viewed today

0:21:22 > 0:21:24and it was over our budget.

0:21:24 > 0:21:26- The last house swayed it for me. - Yeah.

0:21:26 > 0:21:29I think I was still UK until I've seen that house there.

0:21:29 > 0:21:32It makes me a little bit worried about the rest of the week

0:21:32 > 0:21:34because Gemma's still undecided

0:21:34 > 0:21:39and I just don't know if we'll earn the same money out here.

0:21:39 > 0:21:41I think it all rests now on the jobs.

0:21:53 > 0:21:55Deborah and Steve may have fallen for their dream home

0:21:55 > 0:21:58but if they're to be able to afford it,

0:21:58 > 0:22:00finding the right jobs will be key.

0:22:05 > 0:22:06Back in the UK,

0:22:06 > 0:22:09their jobs are the reason the couple are considering the move.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12Deborah runs her own childcare business.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15She enjoys the job but not the workload.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18Although I love my job, it is a very stressful job.

0:22:18 > 0:22:20And I work really long hours

0:22:20 > 0:22:22which has a negative effect on my health.

0:22:22 > 0:22:24Steve's job as a telecoms engineer

0:22:24 > 0:22:27is far from the usual nine to five too.

0:22:27 > 0:22:31A 300-mile round trip commute means he's away from home

0:22:31 > 0:22:33for up to 16 hours every day.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36We go two to three days without even seeing the children.

0:22:36 > 0:22:37And that's not me staying away from home,

0:22:37 > 0:22:39that's me leaving early in the morning,

0:22:39 > 0:22:41getting back late at night when they're in bed

0:22:41 > 0:22:44and then I'll leave again the next morning before they get up.

0:22:44 > 0:22:46While he wants to earn good money down under,

0:22:46 > 0:22:50he'd be happy to compromise if it meant more time with the family.

0:22:50 > 0:22:53The job and salary in Australia is very important.

0:22:53 > 0:22:56Obviously, I want to strive for a better wage

0:22:56 > 0:22:59but I also want to get that better home balance as well.

0:23:01 > 0:23:03It's a big day for Steve and Deborah

0:23:03 > 0:23:07as they set out to investigate work possibilities.

0:23:07 > 0:23:09Both are well aware

0:23:09 > 0:23:11the better family life they're desperate for

0:23:11 > 0:23:13could rest on what they discover.

0:23:13 > 0:23:15First thing this morning,

0:23:15 > 0:23:18the anxiety was there for the pair of us.

0:23:18 > 0:23:20You know, it's going into the unknown.

0:23:20 > 0:23:24If today goes well and I know there's an opportunity for me

0:23:24 > 0:23:25to come over here and be sponsored,

0:23:25 > 0:23:28we can have a fresh start and, you know, live the dream.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31So, yeah, it's a lot... Everything rides on today, I think.

0:23:34 > 0:23:37Deborah will be looking to go back to working for an employer

0:23:37 > 0:23:38if she made the move.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41So we sent her to a privately owned childcare centre

0:23:41 > 0:23:43where she met manager Donna.

0:23:51 > 0:23:53First up, she's keen to know if her qualifications

0:23:53 > 0:23:55would transfer down under.

0:23:55 > 0:23:57So, my UK qualifications - are they recognised?

0:23:57 > 0:24:00We've had a look and, unfortunately, your qualifications

0:24:00 > 0:24:02aren't currently on the pre-approved list

0:24:02 > 0:24:03for the ACECQA regulatory board,

0:24:03 > 0:24:06which would mean that you would need to submit your qualifications

0:24:06 > 0:24:09to have an individual assessment to see where you are at.

0:24:09 > 0:24:12It's quite disappointing but I am aware

0:24:12 > 0:24:15that if that does happen, it still could be successful.

0:24:15 > 0:24:20Her qualifications could see a hurdle put in the way of getting work.

0:24:20 > 0:24:22But if she could overcome that,

0:24:22 > 0:24:25how would her working hours compare to at home?

0:24:25 > 0:24:28My working week is generally about 38 hours for the week,

0:24:28 > 0:24:29Monday to Friday,

0:24:29 > 0:24:31and it's generally flexible

0:24:31 > 0:24:33to make sure that I'm having my family needs met

0:24:33 > 0:24:34as well as the centre needs.

0:24:34 > 0:24:38- That's good to know. It's about half of what I work at the moment.- Yeah.

0:24:38 > 0:24:43Halving her working week could see Deborah's family life transformed.

0:24:43 > 0:24:45Will Steve get as positive a result?

0:24:47 > 0:24:50He's travelled 45 minutes north of Adelaide to Gawler

0:24:50 > 0:24:52where he's soon climbing to dizzying heights

0:24:52 > 0:24:55with employees from a local telecoms company.

0:24:57 > 0:25:00- Need to measure up for these. - OK.

0:25:00 > 0:25:01Need to come across.

0:25:05 > 0:25:09Back down on terra firma, Steve takes the opportunity

0:25:09 > 0:25:12to quiz company owner James, an expat himself,

0:25:12 > 0:25:14about his working hours.

0:25:14 > 0:25:16How was it, Steve? Did you enjoy the climb?

0:25:16 > 0:25:18Yeah, it was a great experience. Thanks very much.

0:25:18 > 0:25:20What are the main differences between working in the UK

0:25:20 > 0:25:22and working in Australia?

0:25:22 > 0:25:24You have more work-life balance.

0:25:24 > 0:25:27We try and work 40-hour weeks, eight-hour days

0:25:27 > 0:25:30but no-one will ever do more than a 12-hour day.

0:25:30 > 0:25:32Being able to work much closer to home

0:25:32 > 0:25:35means Steve's gruelling commute could be a thing of the past.

0:25:35 > 0:25:40But would his qualifications or tickets be recognised in Australia?

0:25:40 > 0:25:42So, no.

0:25:42 > 0:25:44Your simple answer is - they're recognised

0:25:44 > 0:25:45but they're not transferable.

0:25:45 > 0:25:47They have to all be redone again.

0:25:47 > 0:25:50So, how do I go about getting these tickets that will qualify me

0:25:50 > 0:25:51to work in Australia?

0:25:51 > 0:25:53You can go and do your ticket yourself

0:25:53 > 0:25:55and you can come on holiday and do the ticket.

0:25:55 > 0:25:57You have to be in Australia to do it, naturally.

0:25:57 > 0:26:01Or a company might sponsor you and they'll pay for the tickets.

0:26:01 > 0:26:04While having to requalify isn't ideal,

0:26:04 > 0:26:07it sounds like making it happen wouldn't be insurmountable.

0:26:11 > 0:26:12Back at the nursery,

0:26:12 > 0:26:15it's time for Deborah to find out about her potential salary.

0:26:15 > 0:26:17If I was to be successful,

0:26:17 > 0:26:20what sort of salary would I be looking at achieving?

0:26:20 > 0:26:23Anywhere between 30 and 35 per hour,

0:26:23 > 0:26:28which equates to about 60 to 70,000 Australian dollars per year.

0:26:28 > 0:26:31That's between 30 and £35,000.

0:26:31 > 0:26:34Less than the 40,000 Deborah earns in the UK.

0:26:34 > 0:26:38But not bad considering her working week would be cut in half.

0:26:40 > 0:26:42Obviously I need a visa in order to emigrate,

0:26:42 > 0:26:44do you think the company

0:26:44 > 0:26:46would be able to support me with that at all?

0:26:46 > 0:26:48One of the most popular visas that we deal with

0:26:48 > 0:26:51is the 457, which is the business sponsored visa.

0:26:51 > 0:26:52There may be the potential for us

0:26:52 > 0:26:54to be able to help you support with that.

0:26:54 > 0:26:56That would be great, that would be really good news

0:26:56 > 0:26:58if that was able to happen.

0:26:58 > 0:27:00While Deborah's received some good news today,

0:27:00 > 0:27:02the question mark over her qualifications

0:27:02 > 0:27:03is playing on her mind.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06The Australian dream feels a little bit further away now

0:27:06 > 0:27:10just because there's a bit...unsure about my qualifications.

0:27:10 > 0:27:14Back in Gawler, Steve's getting down to the nitty gritty

0:27:14 > 0:27:17and has asked James about his potential earnings.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19For someone of your experience,

0:27:19 > 0:27:23you'd probably start around about 62,000 per annum.

0:27:23 > 0:27:26After three months you'd be assessed

0:27:26 > 0:27:29and you could get up to about 75,000 per annum.

0:27:29 > 0:27:34That's around £40,000 - similar to what Steve makes back home.

0:27:34 > 0:27:36He's got just one more question.

0:27:36 > 0:27:39- Would you consider employing me within your company?- Yes.

0:27:39 > 0:27:41All the networks have now rolled in 4G

0:27:41 > 0:27:43so there's a lot of work to be done.

0:27:43 > 0:27:45That's fantastic news. Thanks very much.

0:27:47 > 0:27:49Overall, it's been a good day for Steve.

0:27:50 > 0:27:52I'm really positive.

0:27:52 > 0:27:53It was a great experience

0:27:53 > 0:27:56and it's exactly what I wanted to get out of it.

0:27:56 > 0:27:57Based on everything they've learned today,

0:27:57 > 0:28:01when it comes to work, will the couple choose home or away?

0:28:12 > 0:28:13- Australia.- Undecided.

0:28:13 > 0:28:15It's not the end.

0:28:15 > 0:28:17I still want to do it, I still want to come over

0:28:17 > 0:28:19but I just need to look more into the qualifications.

0:28:19 > 0:28:21It is a bit disheartening.

0:28:21 > 0:28:23I've worked so much to build a business

0:28:23 > 0:28:25and then for it not to be sort of recognised so much.

0:28:25 > 0:28:29I voted Australia because going out and working with the team today,

0:28:29 > 0:28:31it felt like I was at home already.

0:28:40 > 0:28:42While checking out work opportunities in Adelaide

0:28:42 > 0:28:46has shown the couple they could get more time at home,

0:28:46 > 0:28:48question marks over Deborah's qualifications

0:28:48 > 0:28:51may have put a dent in her dream.

0:28:51 > 0:28:52She'd been relying on Australia

0:28:52 > 0:28:54to be the answer to the problems at home.

0:28:54 > 0:28:58Will a rare opportunity for a family day out together

0:28:58 > 0:29:01convince everyone a move's still worth pursuing?

0:29:10 > 0:29:13The sun's shining as the family set off for a bike ride together

0:29:13 > 0:29:15along Christies Beach esplanade.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21For Deborah and Steve, it's a rare opportunity

0:29:21 > 0:29:23to spend quality time with their children.

0:29:23 > 0:29:26We just don't get this sort of quality time back in the UK,

0:29:26 > 0:29:28we're too busy.

0:29:28 > 0:29:29And it means everything.

0:29:31 > 0:29:34This is 100% better than our life at the moment.

0:29:34 > 0:29:36We don't have a quality life in the UK, we just don't at all.

0:29:36 > 0:29:38It's just work, work, work.

0:29:38 > 0:29:40- Lovely, isn't it? - It's a beautiful view.

0:29:40 > 0:29:43Next up, the family switch bikes for boats -

0:29:43 > 0:29:46taking to the water in glass-bottom kayaks.

0:29:51 > 0:29:54And it's not long before they're spotting the local wildlife.

0:29:54 > 0:29:57- Throw the bread. - Whoa! There's loads of fish.

0:29:58 > 0:30:01- Oh, that's excellent.- Wow, look!

0:30:02 > 0:30:04Wow.

0:30:07 > 0:30:09After an active afternoon,

0:30:09 > 0:30:12the family take time out to enjoy an ice cream.

0:30:12 > 0:30:15For Deborah and Steve, their day out has been a welcome escape

0:30:15 > 0:30:17from their frantic lives at home.

0:30:17 > 0:30:19I've loved it. This is what...

0:30:19 > 0:30:22Today's made me really motivated to do everything I can

0:30:22 > 0:30:23to come over here.

0:30:23 > 0:30:25Yeah, today's been fantastic.

0:30:25 > 0:30:27Sort of great, quality family time

0:30:27 > 0:30:31that we sort of miss in the UK and we got loads of it today.

0:30:31 > 0:30:34Deborah thinks it could have worked wonders on Logan and Gemma.

0:30:34 > 0:30:37It's been so good when you've seen them laughing together

0:30:37 > 0:30:40and being all relaxed and having fun.

0:30:40 > 0:30:43And she could be right when it comes to Logan.

0:30:43 > 0:30:46When I was on the plane, I started thinking I didn't want to go

0:30:46 > 0:30:47but now I've got here...

0:30:49 > 0:30:53..I kind of do want to go live here but...

0:30:53 > 0:30:56But when Steve takes the opportunity to ask Gemma for her thoughts,

0:30:56 > 0:31:01it doesn't sound like she's 100% sold on a move yet.

0:31:01 > 0:31:04Since you've been here, how's your opinion?

0:31:04 > 0:31:07Is it the same as before you got here or do you think...

0:31:07 > 0:31:09it's improved?

0:31:09 > 0:31:11It's improved a little bit.

0:31:11 > 0:31:13This week my mum and dad have definitely seen

0:31:13 > 0:31:16what they wanted to see in Australia.

0:31:16 > 0:31:18I have just...

0:31:18 > 0:31:20Probably not enough to still make me, like,

0:31:20 > 0:31:22100% want to move here.

0:31:22 > 0:31:25It's been a fun day out for the whole family.

0:31:25 > 0:31:26But when it comes to lifestyle,

0:31:26 > 0:31:29has everyone been sold on what Australia has to offer?

0:31:42 > 0:31:45- ALL:- Australia!

0:31:45 > 0:31:48DEBORAH SHOUTS AND LAUGHS

0:31:48 > 0:31:49Finally!

0:31:52 > 0:31:55I vote Australia because just, like,

0:31:55 > 0:31:57I had a, like, really fun time today in the kayaks.

0:31:57 > 0:31:59I want this to be an opportunity for yous

0:31:59 > 0:32:02to see how good your lives could be if you were to live out here

0:32:02 > 0:32:05- so I'm really happy that yous voted for it.- Thanks.

0:32:18 > 0:32:21Gemma's first vote for Australia means the life Deborah and Steve

0:32:21 > 0:32:25are desperate to achieve down under could be one step closer.

0:32:25 > 0:32:27But if their dream life's to become a reality,

0:32:27 > 0:32:30the finances will need to stack up.

0:32:30 > 0:32:34The couple bought their house in the UK for £270,000,

0:32:34 > 0:32:37but have put time and effort into renovations and redecorating,

0:32:37 > 0:32:41so are hoping its value has increased.

0:32:41 > 0:32:45To find out, we sent round two estate agents to give their valuations.

0:32:45 > 0:32:48What a fantastic room. Lovely and open planned.

0:32:48 > 0:32:51Great roof space and lovely and light.

0:32:51 > 0:32:53This is going to be ideal for the typical family.

0:32:55 > 0:33:00Lovely master. Presented very well. Patio doors onto the garden too.

0:33:00 > 0:33:01Very special.

0:33:02 > 0:33:04That's not finished yet.

0:33:04 > 0:33:06Unfinished ensuite to the master bedroom.

0:33:06 > 0:33:08It will be nice when it's done.

0:33:08 > 0:33:09- ALL:- 'Aww.'

0:33:09 > 0:33:11Funky children's room.

0:33:11 > 0:33:13- Good size.- That's your bed there.

0:33:13 > 0:33:14Nice bathroom.

0:33:14 > 0:33:19The wallpaper's not to everyone's taste but it is very, very stylish.

0:33:19 > 0:33:23- Thank you. - OTHERS LAUGH

0:33:23 > 0:33:26Fabulous, sunny garden with a hot tub.

0:33:26 > 0:33:29- Low-maintenance - great versatile space here.- But...

0:33:29 > 0:33:33In today's market, I'd be looking to price this property at 340,000.

0:33:33 > 0:33:36For a quick sale, we'd be looking at roughly

0:33:36 > 0:33:37325,000.

0:33:37 > 0:33:39Get away.

0:33:39 > 0:33:41In today's market, I would value the property

0:33:41 > 0:33:43at £295,000.

0:33:43 > 0:33:46- What?!- For a quick sale - 285,000.

0:33:46 > 0:33:48You are having a laugh. Get away.

0:33:52 > 0:33:56With the valuations falling far short of Deborah's expectations,

0:33:56 > 0:33:59will the rest of the finances prove as big a shock?

0:33:59 > 0:34:01The couple sit down to compare

0:34:01 > 0:34:03the cost of living in Australia with the UK.

0:34:03 > 0:34:05Starting with the weekly food shop.

0:34:07 > 0:34:12Radishes. Oh, my goodness. £1.80 to 2.85.

0:34:12 > 0:34:16White wine. Saving of...5p.

0:34:16 > 0:34:18We can drink a bit more then.

0:34:18 > 0:34:21- Certain things are more expensive but...- Mm-mm.

0:34:21 > 0:34:23..everything else seems

0:34:23 > 0:34:24fairly...fairly OK.

0:34:24 > 0:34:28At around £23 a week more expensive down under,

0:34:28 > 0:34:30Deborah's not too phased.

0:34:30 > 0:34:33And there's some things that I wouldn't buy so often

0:34:33 > 0:34:35- if they're so expensive.- Yeah.

0:34:35 > 0:34:39Next, the couple move on to examine their bigger outgoings,

0:34:39 > 0:34:42basing their figures on the dream home they viewed.

0:34:42 > 0:34:45So, mortgage - £400 extra a month.

0:34:45 > 0:34:48- It's what we expected. - We expected that, didn't we?

0:34:48 > 0:34:51- Yeah.- Council tax. Council tax is cheaper.

0:34:51 > 0:34:55Car insurance is cheaper. £22.

0:34:55 > 0:34:57Computer, 70. Oh, my goodness.

0:34:57 > 0:34:59All in all, the couple work out

0:34:59 > 0:35:03they'd be spending just £97 a month more in Australia.

0:35:03 > 0:35:06A lot better than I thought.

0:35:06 > 0:35:10- And that's based on the dream property as well.- Mm-hm.

0:35:11 > 0:35:14But when they take into account Deborah's lower earnings down under,

0:35:14 > 0:35:17the overall result isn't as positive.

0:35:19 > 0:35:23So we'd be worse off every month by £1,057.

0:35:23 > 0:35:28And per annum - 12,684 worse off.

0:35:29 > 0:35:34- But you still have money at the end of the month.- Mm-hm.

0:35:34 > 0:35:36It's a substantial amount of money

0:35:36 > 0:35:40but Deborah's quick to point out there may be a solution.

0:35:40 > 0:35:43I wouldn't be giving up my nursery straightaway anyway,

0:35:43 > 0:35:45so I would just get a management team in to run that,

0:35:45 > 0:35:47so I'd still have an income from the UK.

0:35:47 > 0:35:50- So it's almost a figure that will wipe itself out.- Yeah.

0:35:50 > 0:35:52They could make up the shortfall

0:35:52 > 0:35:55but as they take their vote on finances

0:35:55 > 0:35:57in Australia versus the UK,

0:35:57 > 0:35:59is the compromise of keeping Deborah's business on

0:35:59 > 0:36:02one the couple are happy to make?

0:36:10 > 0:36:13- UK.- Australia.

0:36:13 > 0:36:16- Are you surprised? - Yeah, slightly surprised.

0:36:16 > 0:36:22I did the UK because we'd still be relying, really,

0:36:22 > 0:36:24on me keeping the business going.

0:36:24 > 0:36:27- I know you're obviously looking long term with the business.- Yeah.

0:36:27 > 0:36:29How long we can sustain with that?

0:36:29 > 0:36:31It could still be a little bit of a worry for me

0:36:31 > 0:36:32to make sure things are going OK.

0:36:32 > 0:36:35So that's the only reason I voted for the UK.

0:36:41 > 0:36:44While their week so far has shown Deborah and Steve

0:36:44 > 0:36:47they could get the family life they both want down under,

0:36:47 > 0:36:50it would mean making big sacrifices.

0:36:50 > 0:36:53There's also the emotional cost of a move to consider.

0:36:53 > 0:36:56The family decide to watch messages from friends and family

0:36:56 > 0:36:58at home together.

0:36:58 > 0:37:00Do you children want to watch the video of the family?

0:37:00 > 0:37:03- Yeah. - LOGAN:- Yeah, what do you think?

0:37:04 > 0:37:07Hi, guys. Hi, Debbie. Hi, Steve.

0:37:07 > 0:37:10Hi, gorgeous Gemma and lovely wee Logan.

0:37:11 > 0:37:14Hello, darlings. I hope you've had a lovely time.

0:37:14 > 0:37:18Hiya, guys, hope you're having a fab time in Australia.

0:37:18 > 0:37:22They're a lovely, close family. They do everything together.

0:37:22 > 0:37:26To have a grandson and a granddaughter

0:37:26 > 0:37:30and a very nice daughter-in-law - couldn't ask for more.

0:37:30 > 0:37:32Deb's a really good friend of mine.

0:37:32 > 0:37:34I met her through work.

0:37:34 > 0:37:36As a boss, she's tough,

0:37:36 > 0:37:38as a friend, she's great.

0:37:38 > 0:37:40Steve's a very easy-going person.

0:37:40 > 0:37:42Friends wise, you know,

0:37:42 > 0:37:44he's happy to take anybody in

0:37:44 > 0:37:46and he's the sort of person that you can depend on.

0:37:46 > 0:37:49Gemma - extremely beautiful.

0:37:49 > 0:37:53And a little lady, I would say.

0:37:53 > 0:37:56Logan - I call him my little man.

0:37:56 > 0:37:59Little redhead, full of energy.

0:37:59 > 0:38:02Yeah, it would be sad to see them go, we will miss them.

0:38:02 > 0:38:05But we'd totally understand if they want to go and, you know,

0:38:05 > 0:38:07try and make a better life for themselves.

0:38:07 > 0:38:11Um, I'll always be worried that she's OK

0:38:11 > 0:38:13and how everything's going for them.

0:38:14 > 0:38:20I would miss just being with my sister when I see her, hugging her.

0:38:20 > 0:38:23She's probably my only friend in Swindon.

0:38:23 > 0:38:26- So that's why I don't want her to go.- Oh, Megan.

0:38:30 > 0:38:34This is going to sound quite selfish...

0:38:37 > 0:38:40..but I think it will break my heart.

0:38:40 > 0:38:41I don't think I could do it.

0:38:41 > 0:38:47You're so many miles away and they just mean the world.

0:38:47 > 0:38:49Just make sure you make this decision for you

0:38:49 > 0:38:50and nobody else.

0:38:50 > 0:38:53I just think it will do you all the world of good.

0:38:53 > 0:38:55I hope you pick Australia to give you a different chance,

0:38:55 > 0:38:59a different opportunity in life and I hope you're going to enjoy it.

0:38:59 > 0:39:01You know I love you all immensely.

0:39:01 > 0:39:04We'll be over as soon as we can to visit you guys.

0:39:04 > 0:39:07And things won't change, you'll just be further away

0:39:07 > 0:39:09but you have to promise to keep in touch.

0:39:14 > 0:39:16What made you sad, Logan?

0:39:16 > 0:39:18Was it just seeing their faces?

0:39:20 > 0:39:23That was really nice, nice comments from everyone, hey?

0:39:26 > 0:39:28Though in the main they were supportive,

0:39:28 > 0:39:32messages from home proved tough for Logan to hear in particular.

0:39:32 > 0:39:36Now, as their final vote approaches,

0:39:36 > 0:39:38will the family decide the country's where they should be

0:39:38 > 0:39:41or that life in the UK's a surer bet?

0:39:46 > 0:39:49Their week in Adelaide has shown both Deborah and Steve

0:39:49 > 0:39:51the country could offer them the family time together

0:39:51 > 0:39:53they've been looking for.

0:39:53 > 0:39:55It's pretty much been everything I wanted it to be.

0:39:55 > 0:39:57And in certain aspects - a little bit more.

0:39:57 > 0:40:00Australia's definitely lived up to my expectations.

0:40:00 > 0:40:05I think it's exactly what we need with the lifestyle

0:40:05 > 0:40:08and just for the children, what they can do

0:40:08 > 0:40:10and as a family unit, what we can do as well.

0:40:10 > 0:40:13Whether it's been enough to persuade Gemma and Logan

0:40:13 > 0:40:16on the merits of a move though is far from clear.

0:40:16 > 0:40:19Gemma's been up and down. Same with Logan, really.

0:40:19 > 0:40:21After seeing them today, I think he will miss his family

0:40:21 > 0:40:23more than I thought, back home.

0:40:23 > 0:40:25The DVD this morning...

0:40:26 > 0:40:29..I felt heartbroken, really.

0:40:29 > 0:40:30Before we came to Australia

0:40:30 > 0:40:33I was like 100% certain I didn't want to live here.

0:40:34 > 0:40:38But along the week, it's changed a bit.

0:40:38 > 0:40:40Because of all the things we've done and seen.

0:40:40 > 0:40:43I have no idea how the kids are going to vote.

0:40:43 > 0:40:45And with some curveballs thrown Deborah's way,

0:40:45 > 0:40:48even she could be beginning to waver.

0:40:48 > 0:40:51Before I came out here, I thought that no matter what happens,

0:40:51 > 0:40:53I'd vote for Australia.

0:40:53 > 0:40:56But this week has left me with some uncertainties.

0:40:56 > 0:40:59Steve's under no illusions

0:40:59 > 0:41:01about the size of the decision the family face.

0:41:01 > 0:41:04The decision ahead of us - it's a big one.

0:41:04 > 0:41:06We're not only changing the kids' lives,

0:41:06 > 0:41:10we're changing our lives and the future of this family.

0:41:10 > 0:41:12But, he knows for a move to happen,

0:41:12 > 0:41:15it'll be something both he and Deborah have to sign up to.

0:41:15 > 0:41:18If there's a difference between me and Deborah,

0:41:18 > 0:41:20then that's a big hiccough that we didn't foresee

0:41:20 > 0:41:22that really could change things altogether.

0:41:25 > 0:41:28Everything rests on this final moment as the family decide

0:41:28 > 0:41:30where their future lies.

0:41:31 > 0:41:35We've had an absolutely fantastic week in Adelaide.

0:41:35 > 0:41:39Really amazing experience and at the end of the week,

0:41:39 > 0:41:41our vote goes to...

0:41:55 > 0:41:58- STEVE AND DEBORAH:- Australia! - LOGAN AND GEMMA:- Undecided.

0:41:58 > 0:42:01So, Logan, why are you still undecided?

0:42:02 > 0:42:04- People are really nice... - Yeah.

0:42:04 > 0:42:07But...I'd still miss home.

0:42:07 > 0:42:10You'll miss home? OK, that's understandable.

0:42:10 > 0:42:13So, before leaving the UK you were a definite no.

0:42:13 > 0:42:16You've improved to a maybe. What were your reasons?

0:42:16 > 0:42:18One of the houses we saw was really nice

0:42:18 > 0:42:21and the activity and the kayaks, that was really fun,

0:42:21 > 0:42:23but watching the friends and family video

0:42:23 > 0:42:26made you realise how far away you are from everyone

0:42:26 > 0:42:27and what you'd be leaving behind.

0:42:27 > 0:42:29Obviously, we've still got some work to do

0:42:29 > 0:42:32in trying to convince you

0:42:32 > 0:42:35that this will be the best life for us as a family.

0:42:35 > 0:42:37But at least it's better than before we came here

0:42:37 > 0:42:39when you were both a definite no.

0:42:41 > 0:42:42And you. Come here.

0:42:44 > 0:42:47So I thought, Logan, that you would have voted for Australia...

0:42:47 > 0:42:49But I didn't.

0:42:53 > 0:42:56It's been a long haul for the Baigents -
