0:00:02 > 0:00:05For 12 years, family members on opposite sides of the world

0:00:05 > 0:00:08have seen a couple wrestle with where to spend

0:00:08 > 0:00:09the rest of their lives.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11Now, it's decision time.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Dave Stone's desperate to be reunited

0:00:15 > 0:00:17with his brother down under.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20I think about moving to Australia pretty much every day.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24But the thought of leaving her mum in the UK brings wife Sam to tears.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27I just feel really guilty every time I see her.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29A trial week in Australia opens her eyes to the life

0:00:29 > 0:00:31her family could be living.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32It's just unbelievable.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34This is just out of this world.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37I really, really like Australia.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38But when it comes to the crunch,

0:00:38 > 0:00:41can she really give her husband's dream the go-ahead?

0:00:41 > 0:00:43She's pretty much all I've got, so...

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Climate, a common language

0:01:13 > 0:01:15and the promise of barbecues at Christmas -

0:01:15 > 0:01:19Australia's enduring appeal has seen enough Brits

0:01:19 > 0:01:20to pack Wembley Stadium

0:01:20 > 0:01:23move there in just the last three years.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25But life on the other side of the world doesn't always

0:01:25 > 0:01:27live up to the dream.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28Latest figures show,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31almost half of those making the move return to the UK.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36A childhood in the sun and a brother already in Australia

0:01:36 > 0:01:40has Dave Stone convinced his young family's future

0:01:40 > 0:01:42will be better down under.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46But for wife Sam, uprooting from the UK would be anything but easy,

0:01:46 > 0:01:49bringing heartache to the mum who raised her alone.

0:01:49 > 0:01:54Now, the family has one week to sample life down under

0:01:54 > 0:01:57before Sam's faced with the biggest decision of her life.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Flying via Singapore, it takes a full day of travelling

0:02:03 > 0:02:05for the Stones to reach Brisbane.

0:02:09 > 0:02:13But for Sam, it's been a rare opportunity to relax.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15I'm pleasantly surprised.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17We got to sit down and we were waited on for 24 hours, so...

0:02:17 > 0:02:21- That never happens.- Yeah, that makes a change that we didn't have to run around after the kids.

0:02:21 > 0:02:25Sophie's shattered, but Dad's just delighted to be back down under.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Now we're finally here, I'm feeling very excited.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31I've been thinking about this for a long period of time.

0:02:31 > 0:02:35And Sam, she's more hesitant about what lies in store.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38I feel slightly nervous...

0:02:39 > 0:02:42..and apprehensive about what's to come.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46Dave is 100% focused on his goal over the next seven days.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50This week's all about persuading my wife, really, cos at the moment

0:02:50 > 0:02:52she's not looking forward to spending her life in Australia.

0:02:52 > 0:02:57Australia really does have to exceed my expectations

0:02:57 > 0:03:01and offer a lot more than what we've already got in the UK...

0:03:01 > 0:03:05for me to move the whole family to the other side of the world.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08If their week in the Sunshine State fails to impress,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11Dave's 15 year dream could bite the dust for ever.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23The Stone family are from Brighton in West Sussex.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25They're Dad Dave, Mum Sam,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Sophie, age four, and Emily, who's one.

0:03:28 > 0:03:32Brighton's a long way from where Dave grew up, though.

0:03:36 > 0:03:41Born in Dubai, he and brother Rick shared an idyllic upbringing.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44It was warm, it was sunny, we used to go to the beach a lot.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46With just a year between them,

0:03:46 > 0:03:50the brothers formed an unbreakable bond during adventures in the sun.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53We used to actually sail together and we'd be helping each other.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55One would be steering and one would actually be with the sail.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58We did everything together, I guess, at that age.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00David and Rick are really close.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02They are like two peas in a pod.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07But the siblings saw 10,000 miles put between them

0:04:07 > 0:04:10when Rick emigrated to Australia in 2000.

0:04:10 > 0:04:15A year later, Dave flew out for a holiday and was instantly smitten.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18That's when, I guess, the dream started. It was something else.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21You see it on the internet, you see it on magazines,

0:04:21 > 0:04:24but it's not till you get there, you realise how unbelievable it is.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Ever since, he's had just one thing on his mind.

0:04:27 > 0:04:31I think about moving to Australia pretty much every day.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34While Dave's been upfront about his antipodean desires with Sam

0:04:34 > 0:04:35from the beginning...

0:04:35 > 0:04:39Ever since we met in 2003, he's talked to me

0:04:39 > 0:04:41about joining his brother Rick in Australia.

0:04:41 > 0:04:45..she's made it just as clear, she doesn't share the dream.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48I'm really settled here and I've got a lot to give up.

0:04:50 > 0:04:54Dave had the ideal opportunity to change Sam's mind eight years ago

0:04:54 > 0:04:57when the couple flew down under for Rick's wedding.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59I was hoping, obviously, she'd be blown away and that was it.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02The next year, we'd be moving out there.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04But things didn't quite go according to plan.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08I liked it, I enjoyed my time there,

0:05:08 > 0:05:11but I didn't feel like it was somewhere that I could live.

0:05:12 > 0:05:16Nearly ten years later, though, Dave's determined to make the move

0:05:16 > 0:05:21and give Sophie and Emily a taste of the outdoors upbringing he enjoyed.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24Australia's where he sees his family's future.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27'I have some words of wisdom to bring you.'

0:05:27 > 0:05:30And he'll try anything to convince his wife.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32One of these days, you'll awake to a peaceful world

0:05:32 > 0:05:34and great happiness in Australia.

0:05:34 > 0:05:36- SHE LAUGHS - I can't believe it says that!

0:05:36 > 0:05:37That's amazing!

0:05:41 > 0:05:45But he's not the only one with close family ties.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48An only child, Sam's mum raised her as a single parent

0:05:48 > 0:05:51and they still play a large role in each other's lives.

0:05:52 > 0:05:55We speak to each other on the phone, probably, every day.

0:05:55 > 0:05:57She pops down here,

0:05:57 > 0:06:00I can just pop up there cos she's only round the corner.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05The issue of a potential move to Australia is just too painful

0:06:05 > 0:06:06to raise.

0:06:06 > 0:06:09We kind of avoid the subject. It's like the elephant in the room.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12We don't... We're just not talking about it.

0:06:12 > 0:06:15Literally, her world is Sam and the grandkids.

0:06:17 > 0:06:21Sam's mum doesn't enjoy flying, so moving half a world away

0:06:21 > 0:06:24would rob her of the chance to see her only grandchildren grow up.

0:06:24 > 0:06:28And that thought leaves Sam inconsolable.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30I just feel really guilty every time I see her,

0:06:30 > 0:06:33or every time I do things with her and the children.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38Really breaks my heart to think that...

0:06:38 > 0:06:40I know how she feels, so...

0:06:40 > 0:06:42Cos I'd feel the same, so...

0:06:44 > 0:06:46I just... I can't talk about it.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54For 12 years, Dave and Sam have faced uncertainty over

0:06:54 > 0:06:56where their future lies,

0:06:56 > 0:07:00torn between families on opposite sides of the globe.

0:07:00 > 0:07:06I don't feel like we can move forward with our life at the moment

0:07:06 > 0:07:09because we don't know what we're doing and we're in

0:07:09 > 0:07:11kind of limbo land.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14Desperate to bring their situation to a conclusion,

0:07:14 > 0:07:17Sam has agreed to give Australia one more go.

0:07:17 > 0:07:21She feels that if we don't go out there, then that's my dream gone

0:07:21 > 0:07:25and if we do stay in the UK, that, literally, every day I'll probably

0:07:25 > 0:07:29be thinking about the fact that we could have moved to Australia.

0:07:29 > 0:07:30Within the space of a week,

0:07:30 > 0:07:34where the family spend their future will be decided.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37But either outcome will bring heartache for someone.

0:07:37 > 0:07:42I think that it will be hard to convince her,

0:07:42 > 0:07:44even if everything is in place, everything is right.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47She may still decide that that's not what she wants.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49Dave's dream is in my hands, so to speak,

0:07:49 > 0:07:53because the decision is on my head.

0:07:54 > 0:07:55Can I leave my mum behind?

0:07:55 > 0:08:00Can I take her grandchildren away and...?

0:08:00 > 0:08:02I don't know if I can do that to her.

0:08:09 > 0:08:13The Stones are spending their trial week on the Sunshine Coast.

0:08:13 > 0:08:17Stretching along the Coral Sea, it's home to miles of scenic beaches

0:08:17 > 0:08:21and just an hour from Australia's third largest city, Brisbane.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24Home for the week is a four-bedroom house in Marcoola,

0:08:24 > 0:08:26just 20 minutes from Dave's brother.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30And Dave likes the look of it.

0:08:30 > 0:08:33- Look at this house. - Wow.

0:08:33 > 0:08:36- It's huge. Wow. - Oh, my God.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39- Oh, my God, it's massive. - Yeah.

0:08:39 > 0:08:41It's a great start to his week

0:08:41 > 0:08:44and Dave's straight in with a bit of suggestive selling.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46Just think the sort of family gatherings you could have.

0:08:46 > 0:08:51- I know.- The space the kids would have for running around.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54A spacious upper level has Dave making plans.

0:08:55 > 0:08:56Third child, I reckon.

0:08:56 > 0:09:00What do you reckon? Fourth, fifth?

0:09:00 > 0:09:02Outdoors doesn't disappoint either

0:09:02 > 0:09:04and, once again, Dave dives in.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06Is this enough?

0:09:06 > 0:09:08If we could afford something like this,

0:09:08 > 0:09:11I would have to seriously think about it.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13While the sun may not be shining,

0:09:13 > 0:09:16a short stroll to a nearby beach has Sam spellbound.

0:09:16 > 0:09:18Wow!

0:09:18 > 0:09:21Can you imagine just waking up to this every day?

0:09:21 > 0:09:23- Mind-blowing.- That's just the outdoor life, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:09:23 > 0:09:27- And the fact that you can do this more than three months a year. - I know.

0:09:28 > 0:09:31It's a better start than Dave could ever have imagined.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34When you look at a house like we've just looked at today,

0:09:34 > 0:09:38and you walk on a beach that's stunning as far as the eye can see,

0:09:38 > 0:09:41you know you're on the right track to winning her over.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43What do you think, Emily? Do you like it?

0:09:43 > 0:09:45Yeah? Is that a little smile I see?

0:09:45 > 0:09:46Little smile?

0:09:46 > 0:09:50But his positive outlook may be overoptimistic.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52I'm really on the fence.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55It's all very well having a nice, big, four-bedroom house with

0:09:55 > 0:10:00a swimming pool, but the price of leaving my mum behind

0:10:00 > 0:10:03and taking her only grandchildren away from her,

0:10:03 > 0:10:06is that really worth it?

0:10:06 > 0:10:10Sam knows, come the end of the week, she'll face a huge dilemma.

0:10:11 > 0:10:14I don't want to break her heart, but at the same time,

0:10:14 > 0:10:17I've got to think about my family.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20I just feel really torn.

0:10:20 > 0:10:22Someone will be upset...

0:10:22 > 0:10:23no matter what the outcome.

0:10:31 > 0:10:34Back in the UK, the Stones live in a three-bedroom semi

0:10:34 > 0:10:40just outside Brighton, which they bought five years ago for £250,000.

0:10:40 > 0:10:42Put a lot of time and effort and money

0:10:42 > 0:10:44into getting the house how we want.

0:10:44 > 0:10:45We love it.

0:10:45 > 0:10:48But at the same time, it's quite a small house

0:10:48 > 0:10:51and with two kids running around, we need a little more space.

0:10:51 > 0:10:55The couple would have a budget of £350,000 for a property down under

0:10:55 > 0:10:58and Dave's clear about what he'd like a home to have.

0:10:58 > 0:11:03A double garage, a media room, a large garden, somewhere with space.

0:11:03 > 0:11:05You've got an open-plan kitchen.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07It's the size of the house, I think, more than anything else.

0:11:07 > 0:11:09Swimming pool?

0:11:09 > 0:11:11A swimming pool would be definitely a bonus, wouldn't it?

0:11:11 > 0:11:15And as for location, a taste of home would be ideal.

0:11:15 > 0:11:16We live in a lovely area,

0:11:16 > 0:11:20five-minute walk from the beach, we have Brighton on our doorstep

0:11:20 > 0:11:24which has lots of things for the kids to do.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27But wouldn't it be great if we found somewhere in Australia

0:11:27 > 0:11:29that's like Brighton, has all the things that we're used to,

0:11:29 > 0:11:31but we can do it all year round?

0:11:37 > 0:11:42To give the family an idea of what kind of home their £350,000

0:11:42 > 0:11:44would get on the Sunshine Coast,

0:11:44 > 0:11:46today we'll show them three properties -

0:11:46 > 0:11:47two close to budget

0:11:47 > 0:11:49and a third which could be everything they want

0:11:49 > 0:11:51from a dream home.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53The search begins in Sippy Downs,

0:11:53 > 0:11:56bordered by a natural park and botanic gardens,

0:11:56 > 0:11:59the suburb offers affordable housing,

0:11:59 > 0:12:01making it popular with young families.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04And with the beach and seaside hot spot ten minutes away,

0:12:04 > 0:12:08the location could be perfect for the Stones.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10Will this recently renovated home have the space

0:12:10 > 0:12:13the couple are looking for?

0:12:13 > 0:12:15- Do you like it? - It looks amazing.

0:12:17 > 0:12:19- Wow, look at this place.- Yeah!

0:12:19 > 0:12:20Wow!

0:12:20 > 0:12:22This is just the reception.

0:12:22 > 0:12:23Certainly a good start.

0:12:23 > 0:12:25Very impressive.

0:12:25 > 0:12:26And Sophie seems sold.

0:12:26 > 0:12:28Love it.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30You love it?

0:12:30 > 0:12:31Well...

0:12:31 > 0:12:34While Emily and Sophie are looked after by a childminder,

0:12:34 > 0:12:35Mum and Dad head off to explore.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40- This is nice, isn't it?- Yeah.- It's kind of an open-plan living room.

0:12:40 > 0:12:42- Wow.- Very nice. - Look what we've got here.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44- Talk about a nice kitchen, eh?- Yeah.

0:12:44 > 0:12:47- Lots of space.- Yep. - We can see the kids eating

0:12:47 > 0:12:49while you're preparing food.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51- Yep.- That's really important for me.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54The open-plan kitchen has a pleasing hidden feature.

0:12:54 > 0:12:56Oh, look.

0:12:56 > 0:12:57A larder.

0:12:57 > 0:12:59- Oh, I like this. - A walk-in larder.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01A walk-in larder.

0:13:01 > 0:13:04But Sam's already worried this home could be out of reach.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06Nice. Wonder how much it costs.

0:13:06 > 0:13:08You'll soon find out, Sam.

0:13:08 > 0:13:09- Oh.- Oh, a washroom.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12- Nice.- That's handy.- Love it.

0:13:12 > 0:13:13I would love to have a room like this.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16A dedicated laundry room's a hit.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19This is perfect. This is a real selling point for me.

0:13:19 > 0:13:23- Oh, so the master bedroom, judging by the size.- Wow.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25- And- an en-suite. Wow. - And that is some en-suite.

0:13:25 > 0:13:28Really, really nice.

0:13:28 > 0:13:31With four bedrooms, this house has the space the family needs,

0:13:31 > 0:13:33but is something missing?

0:13:34 > 0:13:36I haven't seen a wardrobe.

0:13:36 > 0:13:39They're walk-in, Sam!

0:13:39 > 0:13:40Oh, my God!

0:13:42 > 0:13:45While Sophie's back for a look outdoors...

0:13:45 > 0:13:47- Wow.- Look at this!

0:13:47 > 0:13:49You've got a pool, Sophie, look at that.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51..she isn't impressed.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54Oh, it's got a spider in.

0:13:54 > 0:13:56It's got a spider in the pool, no?

0:13:56 > 0:13:58It's going to take more than a creepy-crawlie

0:13:58 > 0:14:00to put Dave off his stride, though.

0:14:00 > 0:14:01This is the dream, isn't it, hon?

0:14:01 > 0:14:03This is just unbelievable.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05It's just... Yeah, breathtaking.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08How do you compare this to home? There's no comparison, is there?

0:14:08 > 0:14:11There's no comparison at all. If we could afford this house...

0:14:11 > 0:14:14And move to the other side of the world to stay in here?

0:14:14 > 0:14:17..then I would seriously consider it. I'm absolutely blown away by this.

0:14:17 > 0:14:20Sam can really see herself at home in this house,

0:14:20 > 0:14:22but is it one they can afford?

0:14:22 > 0:14:25The family's budget is £350,000.

0:14:26 > 0:14:28I think it's about 400,000.

0:14:28 > 0:14:30- Do you?- That's my thoughts.

0:14:30 > 0:14:32Ticks all the boxes, doesn't it?

0:14:32 > 0:14:34And nice area with a good school, so probably...

0:14:36 > 0:14:38..400,000, 450?

0:14:45 > 0:14:48Let's turn over the card and find out how much this place is worth.

0:14:48 > 0:14:49OK.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54Wow. I did not expect that!

0:14:54 > 0:14:57That's £35,000 under budget.

0:14:57 > 0:14:59- That's so affordable. - I can't believe it.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01Wow. I just can't wait to see the next one.

0:15:03 > 0:15:07With only one house viewed, Dave's dream could be firmly on track.

0:15:07 > 0:15:09Next, the family head to Landsborough,

0:15:09 > 0:15:13a small historic town dotted with parks and lakes.

0:15:13 > 0:15:16Though it's further inland and away from the beach, that means

0:15:16 > 0:15:21when it comes to property, you can get more for your money.

0:15:21 > 0:15:25Will this modern four-bedroom house prove as big a hit as the last?

0:15:25 > 0:15:27Oh, wow. Look at the size of it!

0:15:27 > 0:15:30- It is a nice-looking place, isn't it?- Oh, my goodness.

0:15:30 > 0:15:33Spread out over one level and boasting four living areas,

0:15:33 > 0:15:36this house impresses immediately.

0:15:36 > 0:15:38- Wow!- Look at the reception.

0:15:38 > 0:15:41High ceilings throughout add to a sense of space.

0:15:43 > 0:15:46- And it's large.- That's a kitchen... - Extremely large.- ..and a half!

0:15:47 > 0:15:50Sam's stunned.

0:15:50 > 0:15:52I'm gobsmacked, speechless.

0:15:56 > 0:16:00A home cinema room's a winner.

0:16:00 > 0:16:02- Oh!- There you go!- A media room.

0:16:02 > 0:16:04Ah!

0:16:04 > 0:16:06Just to chill out with the kids, sitting down, bit of popcorn

0:16:06 > 0:16:11and drink holders as well, that's what you've got to have, put your feet up...

0:16:11 > 0:16:12- Ooh!- ..and watch something on this.

0:16:12 > 0:16:14- I mean...- It's nice!

0:16:14 > 0:16:17This house is everything Dave had been hoping for.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19It's just amazing, isn't it?

0:16:19 > 0:16:21And the main bedroom doesn't disappoint.

0:16:21 > 0:16:23- Oh, wow, it's massive!- I know.

0:16:23 > 0:16:25- Bed is huge.- Yeah.- Lovely, isn't it?

0:16:25 > 0:16:27God, it's so big.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29En suite as well.

0:16:29 > 0:16:32There's en suite, Dave! Look at the size of the shower.

0:16:32 > 0:16:34Everything about this house is spacious.

0:16:34 > 0:16:37There's even a separate wing for the children.

0:16:37 > 0:16:39They'd just love it, wouldn't they?

0:16:39 > 0:16:42Sam can definitely picture herself living here.

0:16:42 > 0:16:44I'll take it.

0:16:44 > 0:16:46- Yeah, where do we sign? - THEY LAUGH

0:16:46 > 0:16:50And that's before she's set foot outside.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52Oh, my... Wow!

0:16:52 > 0:16:55- Look at that!- Wow!

0:16:55 > 0:16:57- Look at the size of this pool. - I know.

0:16:57 > 0:16:59- You could do lengths in this pool. - Yeah.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02The sparkling pool leads onto an enormous garden.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05- It really is unbelievable. I've never seen anything like it.- No.

0:17:05 > 0:17:09- There's not many houses that come with a treehouse, are there?- I know!

0:17:09 > 0:17:12- Aw, how cute is this? - They'd love it in a place like this.

0:17:12 > 0:17:16This house has wowed both Dave and Sam.

0:17:16 > 0:17:20But could they really call it home, with their £350,000 budget?

0:17:21 > 0:17:24Oh, hon, so what do you reckon? How much is a house like this worth?

0:17:24 > 0:17:27So, taking into account the size of the property,

0:17:27 > 0:17:30I reckon at least £500,000.

0:17:30 > 0:17:32- That'd be way out of reach.- Yeah.

0:17:32 > 0:17:34Yeah, that'd be so disappointing.

0:17:34 > 0:17:36Shall we take a look?

0:17:44 > 0:17:45SAM GASPS

0:17:45 > 0:17:50- No way. 345,000. - I'm absolutely gobsmacked.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53£5,000 under budget.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55I'm almost moved to tears.

0:17:55 > 0:17:57I can't believe this could be possible.

0:17:57 > 0:18:00This leaves David just one question.

0:18:00 > 0:18:04Would you like to move to Australia if you lived in a house like this?

0:18:04 > 0:18:09At the moment, my answer would... Well, yeah, it would be swayed towards the yes.

0:18:10 > 0:18:14After 14 years of longing, that's music to Dave's ears

0:18:14 > 0:18:15and the day isn't over yet.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22For their final stop,

0:18:22 > 0:18:26we're showing the Stones what we think could be their dream home.

0:18:26 > 0:18:29It's in Buderim, a suburb once voted the third most desirable

0:18:29 > 0:18:32place to live in the world.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35This modern four-bedroom house is positioned on half an acre

0:18:35 > 0:18:39of land and it's not only the garden that's big.

0:18:39 > 0:18:41Oh, look at this size of this door.

0:18:41 > 0:18:43- That's a good start, isn't it? - Massive.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45I've never seen anything like this.

0:18:46 > 0:18:47SAM GASPS

0:18:47 > 0:18:49- BOTH:- Wow!

0:18:49 > 0:18:51I know we're using that adjective quite a lot,

0:18:51 > 0:18:53but really, this time...

0:18:53 > 0:18:56- My goodness, look at this.- Wow. There's so much to see.

0:18:56 > 0:19:00- It's a nice little cosy area, but then it opens up to this massive area.- Yeah.

0:19:00 > 0:19:03With five bedrooms and four living areas,

0:19:03 > 0:19:05space won't be a problem here.

0:19:05 > 0:19:07This is just out of this world.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10Outside's perfect for entertaining.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14Wow, this is the outside area, a living space. It's lovely, isn't it?

0:19:14 > 0:19:16Wow, oh, it's lovely. Gorgeous.

0:19:16 > 0:19:20And again, Sam can imagine feeling right at home.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22- Yeah.- Chill out here, barbecues, parties.

0:19:22 > 0:19:24Quite a big space, isn't it, really?

0:19:24 > 0:19:28- This is the pool.- It is, let's have a look at this amazing-looking pool.

0:19:28 > 0:19:32- Wow! Oh, it's stunning, isn't it?- It is, isn't it?

0:19:32 > 0:19:36Back indoors, the master bedroom doesn't disappoint.

0:19:36 > 0:19:38- Just look at the size of this! - Look at the size of it.

0:19:38 > 0:19:40Ah, an en-suite!

0:19:40 > 0:19:43- A massive en-suite.- A standard ridiculously big en-suite!

0:19:43 > 0:19:45His and her basins.

0:19:45 > 0:19:47Wow, this is a nice bedroom, isn't it?

0:19:47 > 0:19:50Look, double doors out on to the garden area.

0:19:50 > 0:19:53- A private little garden space. - It is, isn't it?

0:19:53 > 0:19:56This house has really captured the couple's hearts.

0:19:56 > 0:19:58Aw, Dave.

0:19:58 > 0:20:00One day, it could be.

0:20:00 > 0:20:02- This house... It's just awesome. - You never know.

0:20:02 > 0:20:06But if it falls on the wrong side of their £350,000 budget,

0:20:06 > 0:20:10it could be nothing more than a pipe dream.

0:20:10 > 0:20:13- I wonder how much this is worth. - Yeah.- A lot.

0:20:13 > 0:20:15- Definitely has to be over budget. - I'm certain.- It has to be.

0:20:15 > 0:20:17It's time to find out.

0:20:17 > 0:20:20I'd guess about £600,000.

0:20:20 > 0:20:22I'm going to go slightly higher, I'm going to say 700.

0:20:22 > 0:20:25- £700,000?- Mmm.- OK.

0:20:31 > 0:20:35Well, let's turn over the card and find out. See who's right.

0:20:35 > 0:20:36SAM GASPS

0:20:36 > 0:20:38£519,000!

0:20:38 > 0:20:41- That's so much more less than what we were actually guessing.- Wow.

0:20:41 > 0:20:46It's nearly 50% over budget, but the couple aren't put off.

0:20:47 > 0:20:51I can't believe what we can get for our money over here.

0:20:51 > 0:20:54- So it's a definite, you know, a definite tick in the box.- Yeah?

0:20:54 > 0:20:58- You never know. A house like this is actually achievable.- Yeah.

0:20:58 > 0:21:01- So, fingers crossed, let's see how the rest of the week turns out.- Mmm.

0:21:01 > 0:21:05Their day house-hunting has got Dave's battle to persuade Sam

0:21:05 > 0:21:08to make the move off to a flying start.

0:21:08 > 0:21:11Property one's walk-in larder and laundry room had Sam swayed

0:21:11 > 0:21:14and was well within the couple's budget.

0:21:14 > 0:21:18Property two had all the space, both indoors and outdoors,

0:21:18 > 0:21:22Dave and Sam could possibly need, and for less than they could afford.

0:21:22 > 0:21:27Finally, Property three was the dream home and though over budget,

0:21:27 > 0:21:30depending on jobs, it wasn't necessarily beyond reach.

0:21:30 > 0:21:32So, based on everything they've seen today,

0:21:32 > 0:21:36when it comes to properties, will Dave and Sam choose home or away?

0:21:36 > 0:21:39So, after learning about Australian property today,

0:21:39 > 0:21:41we're now going to vote.

0:21:46 > 0:21:49BOTH: Australia!

0:21:49 > 0:21:52So, why did you vote for Australia? I didn't expect that.

0:21:52 > 0:21:54Oh, well, it was a no-brainer, really, wasn't it,

0:21:54 > 0:21:57- after the properties that we've seen today?- It's good to hear

0:21:57 > 0:21:59I've finally convinced you. So that's step one done.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01The properties have definitely won it over for me.

0:22:06 > 0:22:08Dave? Dave!

0:22:10 > 0:22:13A perfect day for Dave's rounded off with a reunion

0:22:13 > 0:22:15with brother Rick and family.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18And Rick's keen to hear if a move's a done deal.

0:22:19 > 0:22:22- It's looking good so far, I have to say.- Good, yeah.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25- What happened, mate?- Sounds like she's more positive to it. - Excellent.

0:22:25 > 0:22:27- Yes!- Fingers crossed.- Come on!

0:22:27 > 0:22:29- There's still more decisions to be made, so...- Ah, OK.

0:22:29 > 0:22:31So it's not a done deal at the moment.

0:22:31 > 0:22:36Rick's been living the Australian dream for 15 years, but...

0:22:36 > 0:22:40Not having my brother here is probably one part of my life that's missing.

0:22:40 > 0:22:43I love living in Australia and I've been very happy here,

0:22:43 > 0:22:48very settled and the chance to have my brother here too would be amazing.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51- To Australia! - CHEERING

0:22:51 > 0:22:53And for Dave, the evening's cemented

0:22:53 > 0:22:56just why he's so passionate about making the move.

0:22:56 > 0:22:58Well, it's not just having a new life over here,

0:22:58 > 0:23:00it's actually being with the people you care about.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03For your children to have the sort of bond that we've had,

0:23:03 > 0:23:05again, words can't describe that.

0:23:05 > 0:23:10- Cheers!- So you've got to move!- Yeah, that's it. Decision's made for me. - Brilliant!- Let's see.

0:23:20 > 0:23:24A first vote for Australia from Sam is a step in the right direction

0:23:24 > 0:23:27for Dave, but there's a long way to go yet.

0:23:27 > 0:23:30Affording the Australian lifestyle he dreams of

0:23:30 > 0:23:33will depend on the couple's securing the right salaries.

0:23:35 > 0:23:37Dave's the main visa applicant.

0:23:37 > 0:23:40Back in the UK, he works in information technology

0:23:40 > 0:23:44and has been with the same company for 16 years.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47I love my job, I love the problem-solving aspects of it,

0:23:47 > 0:23:49I love the people I work with.

0:23:49 > 0:23:53Sam gave up a job in HR recruitment to become a full-time mum

0:23:53 > 0:23:54when the girls were born.

0:23:54 > 0:23:58But she's keen to get back in the saddle at least part-time.

0:23:58 > 0:24:04I love spending time with the girls, but I also do miss being at work.

0:24:04 > 0:24:08At the moment, the couple are just breaking even in the UK.

0:24:08 > 0:24:12A substantial increase in income would help sway Sam towards the move.

0:24:12 > 0:24:16It's really important that I find a better-paid job in order to

0:24:16 > 0:24:20convince Sam that we can actually live the lifestyle that we want.

0:24:20 > 0:24:23The key factor as to whether or not we move

0:24:23 > 0:24:26to Australia is the financial aspect

0:24:26 > 0:24:31and it's not just Dave's salary, it's also what I could potentially earn.

0:24:31 > 0:24:33Definitely not a step back,

0:24:33 > 0:24:36a step forward is really critical to this decision-making process.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38- Well done! - SAM LAUGHS

0:24:40 > 0:24:43While the girls are looked after by a childminder,

0:24:43 > 0:24:47the couple set out to explore their work options in Queensland.

0:24:47 > 0:24:50First up, Dave meets Ben Hague, a recruitment manager

0:24:50 > 0:24:53who specialises in information technology.

0:24:53 > 0:24:55Straight away, Ben's got encouraging news.

0:24:57 > 0:25:01You've got a niche skill set across a number of areas.

0:25:01 > 0:25:04- Definitely you're a very marketable candidate.- That's good to hear.

0:25:04 > 0:25:07You know, you can actually look at a number of different potential

0:25:07 > 0:25:10- avenues to move into.- OK. That's interesting.

0:25:10 > 0:25:12So then I can see what the market's like

0:25:12 > 0:25:16- and then decide which avenue's the best one?- Absolutely, yeah.- OK.

0:25:16 > 0:25:19But while he could perhaps have his pick of roles, finding one

0:25:19 > 0:25:22on the Sunshine Coast near his brother

0:25:22 > 0:25:24could prove more problematic.

0:25:24 > 0:25:26The Sunshine Coast,

0:25:26 > 0:25:30it's an absolutely fantastic place to live, but the opportunities

0:25:30 > 0:25:34are fewer and far between where there is a smaller economy.

0:25:34 > 0:25:37The real kind of probability or realistic thing is you will secure

0:25:37 > 0:25:41a role in Brisbane, something for you to think about.

0:25:41 > 0:25:43Yeah, OK, thanks a lot.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47Meanwhile, Sam's at one of the Sunshine Coast's biggest

0:25:47 > 0:25:52employers, a water company where she meets recruitment adviser, Nick.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55Straight away, Sam's keen to discover

0:25:55 > 0:25:57if any roles for her would exist in the company.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00Ideally, the sort of roles that I'm looking for

0:26:00 > 0:26:03- at the moment would be internal recruitment...- Sure.

0:26:03 > 0:26:07..recruitment coordinator or a bit of HR admin.

0:26:07 > 0:26:11The experience that you've placed on this CV definitely matches

0:26:11 > 0:26:14with a lot of the systems and processes we use.

0:26:14 > 0:26:18- I'm a recruitment adviser...- Yeah. - ..so that role definitely would

0:26:18 > 0:26:20- match your skill set.- Yeah.

0:26:20 > 0:26:24They could be HR advisor roles, so if we were to hypothetically

0:26:24 > 0:26:28advertise roles like that, you could be a perfect match.

0:26:29 > 0:26:31Sam could slot right in.

0:26:31 > 0:26:34Back with Ben, Dave's getting down to the nitty-gritty.

0:26:34 > 0:26:38If he did commute to Brisbane, what could he earn?

0:26:38 > 0:26:41If you were to look at either project management or IT management,

0:26:41 > 0:26:45which again, is relevant to your background and experience,

0:26:45 > 0:26:50- you could be looking anywhere between £46,000 up to £68,000.- Wow.

0:26:50 > 0:26:54Securing a senior role in Brisbane could swell Dave's salary

0:26:54 > 0:26:58by £20,000, compared to what he currently earns.

0:26:58 > 0:26:59And on the Sunshine Coast...

0:26:59 > 0:27:02You'd be looking at 45,000-60,000.

0:27:02 > 0:27:04OK, so there's potential there as well?

0:27:04 > 0:27:06Dave's happy with that.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08That's excellent news for me and my family.

0:27:08 > 0:27:12Knowing that you can actually get some good salaries in both locations.

0:27:12 > 0:27:15Sounds like we need to live somewhere between Brisbane and Sunshine Coast

0:27:15 > 0:27:18- and have the options to move to both places.- Best of both worlds.

0:27:18 > 0:27:20- Yeah, absolutely. - OK, thanks for that.

0:27:20 > 0:27:24Back at the water company, Sam's about to discover her potential earnings.

0:27:24 > 0:27:29Potentially £23,000 through to about £32,000.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31That sounds great, actually.

0:27:31 > 0:27:34Roughly probably about the same

0:27:34 > 0:27:38if not a little bit more than what we could get back in the UK.

0:27:38 > 0:27:42Meeting up, the couple compare notes.

0:27:42 > 0:27:45I've found out that job opportunity-wise, it's pretty good in Brisbane

0:27:45 > 0:27:49and the salary scale is around 45,000-60,000, which is excellent.

0:27:49 > 0:27:52- Wow, good.- Which you know, that's what I was hoping for.

0:27:52 > 0:27:56I do feel reassured that there are job opportunities for us both,

0:27:56 > 0:27:59and the salaries are at a decent level.

0:27:59 > 0:28:02So has what they've discovered today been enough to persuade

0:28:02 > 0:28:06Dave and Sam to choose work in Australia over the UK?

0:28:06 > 0:28:09After reviewing our job opportunities today,

0:28:09 > 0:28:10it's time to vote.

0:28:17 > 0:28:19- BOTH:- Australia!

0:28:21 > 0:28:22Oh, so you voted for Australia?

0:28:22 > 0:28:27Well, I was kind of on the fence but the salaries are more.

0:28:27 > 0:28:29It is more than the UK.

0:28:29 > 0:28:31So that swayed it for me.

0:28:31 > 0:28:33We're now one step closer to my dream

0:28:33 > 0:28:34and hopefully it'll be our dream.

0:28:34 > 0:28:36- Another tick for Australia.- Yay!

0:28:41 > 0:28:46Another clean sweep for Oz means Dave's once step closer

0:28:46 > 0:28:49to being permanently reunited with his brother.

0:28:49 > 0:28:53For him, a big part of Australia's appeal is a chance for his children

0:28:53 > 0:28:58to have the same outdoors upbringing he experienced as a boy.

0:28:58 > 0:29:02So, will a slice of the country's lifestyle prove another winner?

0:29:05 > 0:29:09The family's day starts with a trip to a petting farm

0:29:09 > 0:29:11and it's a chance for Sophie and Emily to get up close

0:29:11 > 0:29:14with some farmyard creatures.

0:29:14 > 0:29:15Or maybe not!

0:29:17 > 0:29:20It's also a chance for Dad to practise his Aussie accent.

0:29:20 > 0:29:23- G'day, Bruce.- Mmmm...

0:29:23 > 0:29:25The kids are loving it. You see they're happy.

0:29:25 > 0:29:27Obviously, that makes us happy.

0:29:30 > 0:29:33Dave's counting on a day in the sunshine opening Sam's eyes

0:29:33 > 0:29:35to the life they could be leading.

0:29:35 > 0:29:38'I'm hoping that Sam will start to see that sort of side of things'

0:29:38 > 0:29:40and she realises it's not all about the money,

0:29:40 > 0:29:43it's not just about the house, it's the fact we can do these things.

0:29:43 > 0:29:46So, we're not restricted by the weather.

0:29:46 > 0:29:49Hopefully, she'll start to realise there's more things to think about.

0:29:51 > 0:29:53Heading for a stroll on the beach,

0:29:53 > 0:29:57Sam admits on this trip the country has been winning her round.

0:29:57 > 0:30:00I'm really, really liking Australia at the moment.

0:30:00 > 0:30:03So, you know, I have thought about home, family and friends.

0:30:03 > 0:30:08If we could bring all of them here then I'd come here tomorrow.

0:30:08 > 0:30:11But you can't, so...

0:30:11 > 0:30:14Dave's convinced the week's been working in his favour.

0:30:14 > 0:30:16'So far, it's been very positive.

0:30:16 > 0:30:19'She's actually chosen Australia for a few of the days.

0:30:19 > 0:30:21'So, it's going very well in my eyes.'

0:30:21 > 0:30:23I'm absolutely blown away by Australia

0:30:23 > 0:30:25and what we're seeing this week.

0:30:25 > 0:30:27The kids have loved it here so for me,

0:30:27 > 0:30:31that's a major, a major factor for me.

0:30:31 > 0:30:35You know, if I think about when we started talking about Australia

0:30:35 > 0:30:39many years ago, every conversation was almost a flat out refusal.

0:30:39 > 0:30:41So this week, just being over here has,

0:30:41 > 0:30:46kind of, opened her eyes, I think, to the possibility.

0:30:46 > 0:30:49But the reality of being half a world away from her mum

0:30:49 > 0:30:51is playing on Sam's mind.

0:30:51 > 0:30:52We might only see her...

0:30:53 > 0:30:57..a handful of times before she's no longer around, so...

0:30:59 > 0:31:02When you think of it like that, you have to think

0:31:02 > 0:31:04whether or not it's worth it.

0:31:04 > 0:31:06It's upsetting.

0:31:11 > 0:31:14She won't get to experience our children's...

0:31:14 > 0:31:16our children growing up.

0:31:17 > 0:31:19It's always come back to Sam and her mum

0:31:19 > 0:31:21and the fact, will she be able to do it?

0:31:21 > 0:31:24I love her more than anything.

0:31:24 > 0:31:26She's pretty much all I've got so...

0:31:34 > 0:31:37But we've got a family now to think about so...

0:31:40 > 0:31:43It's going to be hard and I know it'll be hard but I'm just hoping

0:31:43 > 0:31:45that we've done enough this week to push her through that.

0:31:45 > 0:31:49Sam faces an agonising choice between her mum

0:31:49 > 0:31:52and her husband's dream come the end of the week.

0:31:52 > 0:31:53But based on lifestyle...

0:31:53 > 0:31:55It's now time to vote.

0:32:02 > 0:32:04- BOTH:- Australia!

0:32:05 > 0:32:08- Wow! You voted for Australia, hon. - Yep.

0:32:08 > 0:32:10We just had a fantastic day, didn't we?

0:32:10 > 0:32:12The girls had a fabulous time at the farm.

0:32:12 > 0:32:15I think the major difference is the weather, obviously.

0:32:15 > 0:32:18Just perpetual sunshine, we've got fantastic beaches

0:32:18 > 0:32:22and just the fact you can do this every day of the year.

0:32:22 > 0:32:27- I think the obvious answer was Australia.- Wow, that's brilliant.

0:32:27 > 0:32:29I can just seeing us doing this all the time.

0:32:29 > 0:32:31It's good you voted as well. Excellent.

0:32:44 > 0:32:47With the couple only breaking even in the UK,

0:32:47 > 0:32:51will the finances down under help further Dave's cause?

0:32:51 > 0:32:55Having bought their house in 2010 for £250,000,

0:32:55 > 0:32:59the couple now believe it's worth around £325,000.

0:33:00 > 0:33:02Will two local estate agents agree?

0:33:06 > 0:33:09The lounge-diner's really bright and airy.

0:33:09 > 0:33:11I really like the feature open fire, as do many buyers

0:33:11 > 0:33:14in a house of this style.

0:33:14 > 0:33:16- That's good to hear, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:33:16 > 0:33:19- Looks good, doesn't it? - It does, actually.

0:33:19 > 0:33:21OK, so here we are in the kitchen.

0:33:21 > 0:33:22It's in fantastic order

0:33:22 > 0:33:24so that's going to help the saleability in here.

0:33:24 > 0:33:27- Promising.- Wow.

0:33:27 > 0:33:28It's tiny compared to this!

0:33:28 > 0:33:32Won't take them long to walk round, compared to the houses we've seen.

0:33:32 > 0:33:33Smaller landing.

0:33:33 > 0:33:37The master bedroom's really bright and airy. Nice double room.

0:33:37 > 0:33:41Here we are into the west-facing garden. It's in fantastic order.

0:33:41 > 0:33:44- Looks nice. - It does on a sunny day, doesn't it?

0:33:44 > 0:33:46'Really like it, it's a real selling point.'

0:33:46 > 0:33:49I would put the current market value of this property to be

0:33:49 > 0:33:52between 345 and 350.

0:33:52 > 0:33:56And for a quick sale, to be between 340 and 345.

0:33:56 > 0:33:58I would put the current value of this property

0:33:58 > 0:34:02at between 350,000 and 360,000.

0:34:02 > 0:34:04And for a quick sale, we would market it

0:34:04 > 0:34:08at 340,000 to 345,000.

0:34:08 > 0:34:12The valuations peak at £35,000 more than the couple had hoped.

0:34:13 > 0:34:15- Wow, that's shocking.- Unbelievable.

0:34:15 > 0:34:17- I had no idea it was worth that much money.- No.

0:34:19 > 0:34:22An encouraging start for Dave. But how would the Stones'

0:34:22 > 0:34:25cost of living down under compare with the UK?

0:34:25 > 0:34:27Moment of truth, hon. Do the numbers add up?

0:34:27 > 0:34:29To find out,

0:34:29 > 0:34:33we've provided a comparison of costs between the two countries.

0:34:33 > 0:34:36First up, it's the weekly grocery shop.

0:34:36 > 0:34:39- Glancing at that list, you're seeing...- Lots of red.

0:34:39 > 0:34:42- ..about 70% of it is actually more expensive in Australia.- Yeah.

0:34:42 > 0:34:44Nappies, that's double.

0:34:44 > 0:34:48- 2.99...- That's a problem.- ..pounds.

0:34:48 > 0:34:50- That's 6.60 dollars.- If we were to have a look at the ones that

0:34:50 > 0:34:53were really cheap, £3.62 difference.

0:34:53 > 0:34:55That's minced beef.

0:34:55 > 0:34:57So, that's good to know.

0:34:57 > 0:35:00So, we've got to eat lots of meat and no vegetables

0:35:00 > 0:35:02to save a bit of money.

0:35:02 > 0:35:05So, how does the weekly shop add up?

0:35:05 > 0:35:09We'll be £21.72 pence worse off per week.

0:35:09 > 0:35:13It's more expensive, so that's not massive per week.

0:35:13 > 0:35:17- I'm really surprised by that. That's really, really reassuring.- Me too.

0:35:17 > 0:35:20- I'm really pleased about that. - Yeah, it's not that bad at all.

0:35:20 > 0:35:23£22 extra per week on groceries might not break the bank

0:35:23 > 0:35:26but what about the bigger outgoings?

0:35:26 > 0:35:27Let's start with the mortgage.

0:35:27 > 0:35:31The couple base their calculations on house number one.

0:35:31 > 0:35:33So, the UK's £850.40.

0:35:33 > 0:35:36The Australian is 1,023.58.

0:35:38 > 0:35:43That comes to £173.18 pence more expensive in Australia.

0:35:44 > 0:35:46But for a much bigger house.

0:35:46 > 0:35:48Dave's not worried

0:35:48 > 0:35:51but Sam hits back with a reality check of her own.

0:35:51 > 0:35:54At the moment, in our current financial situation,

0:35:54 > 0:35:57we wouldn't be able to afford an extra £173 per month.

0:35:58 > 0:36:01Factoring in the rest of the household bills...

0:36:01 > 0:36:05OK, so that comes to £2,667.96

0:36:05 > 0:36:09per month for the cost of living in Australia.

0:36:09 > 0:36:11OK.

0:36:11 > 0:36:13So, that is, at a glance, more expensive.

0:36:13 > 0:36:16But let's try and work out the difference.

0:36:16 > 0:36:21- So, £368.70 pence worse off per month in Australia.- Mm.

0:36:22 > 0:36:24I'll draw a sad face.

0:36:24 > 0:36:27At the moment that figure is concerning

0:36:27 > 0:36:31because we wouldn't be able to afford that lifestyle, would we?

0:36:31 > 0:36:35The couple would spend £400 more every month.

0:36:35 > 0:36:37Taking their Australian earnings into account,

0:36:37 > 0:36:39the end result's positive, but only just.

0:36:40 > 0:36:46Which would, yeah, give us a figure of £35.98.

0:36:46 > 0:36:50So we'd be £35.98 better off...

0:36:50 > 0:36:52As we are now in the UK.

0:36:52 > 0:36:57If I returned to work we could potentially earn more out here.

0:36:57 > 0:36:59But the cost of living is more.

0:36:59 > 0:37:02I think it's really disappointing.

0:37:02 > 0:37:05It's far from the result Dave was hoping for.

0:37:05 > 0:37:08So based on finances, how will the couple vote?

0:37:17 > 0:37:19- BOTH:- Undecided.

0:37:20 > 0:37:24The finances, you know, needed to add up in order for me

0:37:24 > 0:37:26to vote Australia.

0:37:26 > 0:37:29And they haven't so it's been disappointing.

0:37:29 > 0:37:32It's not as straightforward as I thought it would be,

0:37:32 > 0:37:35- so this day has not gone as according to plan.- No.

0:37:40 > 0:37:42After a successful start to the week,

0:37:42 > 0:37:45Dave's 14-year-old dream could be beginning to unravel

0:37:45 > 0:37:48and he's about to face his biggest hurdle.

0:37:48 > 0:37:50While Sophie and Emily take a nap,

0:37:50 > 0:37:54Sam and Dave sit down together to watch a DVD from loved ones back home.

0:37:56 > 0:37:59Hi, Dave and Sam, it's the Daniels family here.

0:37:59 > 0:38:02Hi, Dave. I've got a surprise for you.

0:38:02 > 0:38:06It's a British bin for your rubbish ideas about going to Australia.

0:38:06 > 0:38:10I hope you've not had too good a time and forgotten about us already.

0:38:10 > 0:38:13My daughter, Sam, and I are very close.

0:38:13 > 0:38:16I don't know why she wants to go to Australia.

0:38:16 > 0:38:18She's got everything here.

0:38:19 > 0:38:23We really don't want you to go so we vote that you don't move

0:38:23 > 0:38:25to Australia and that you stay in the UK.

0:38:25 > 0:38:27- BOYS:- UK!

0:38:30 > 0:38:33She's obviously got to do what's best for her family.

0:38:33 > 0:38:38If, when she gets there, she feels that it's going to be a better

0:38:38 > 0:38:40way of life for her

0:38:40 > 0:38:44then she hasn't got to think about me.

0:38:44 > 0:38:48She's got to do it. She's got to do what's best for her family.

0:38:48 > 0:38:50She's got to put her family first.

0:38:57 > 0:39:00I don't know why I'm crying.

0:39:00 > 0:39:01I wouldn't see Sophie.

0:39:01 > 0:39:05I think, even though they're really young, I think it would be sad

0:39:05 > 0:39:08to think that they wouldn't grow up in the same way

0:39:08 > 0:39:09that me and Sam have.

0:39:09 > 0:39:14If Sam and the children go to Australia...

0:39:16 > 0:39:20..I will miss them so, so, so much.

0:39:26 > 0:39:28I can't even think about it.

0:39:28 > 0:39:32I won't be able to kiss them, I won't be able to cuddle them.

0:39:33 > 0:39:35Have a good life, whatever you decide.

0:39:36 > 0:39:40No matter how much we here are going to miss you, you know

0:39:40 > 0:39:44we'll always be there and we will see each other again.

0:39:44 > 0:39:46I don't want you to go to Australia.

0:39:47 > 0:39:51I will be absolutely distraught if you do.

0:39:51 > 0:39:53I love you very much.

0:39:53 > 0:39:54Please come home to me.

0:40:00 > 0:40:02That was tough.

0:40:02 > 0:40:05You think you might be better with these things

0:40:05 > 0:40:08but right down, it's quite touching to be really loved.

0:40:08 > 0:40:10It's the hardest part, isn't it?

0:40:10 > 0:40:13Explain how much they're going to miss you.

0:40:15 > 0:40:16Tough day.

0:40:19 > 0:40:21- You OK?- Yeah.

0:40:21 > 0:40:23Ever since they met 12 years ago, Dave and Sam

0:40:23 > 0:40:28have pictured their futures at opposite ends of the earth.

0:40:28 > 0:40:31Now, after a decade of indecision,

0:40:31 > 0:40:34Sam's about to face the dilemma she's been dreading,

0:40:34 > 0:40:37having to choose between the bond she has at home

0:40:37 > 0:40:40and green lighting her husband's dream.

0:40:42 > 0:40:45Dave's all too aware of the impact messages from home

0:40:45 > 0:40:47have had on his wife.

0:40:47 > 0:40:48It's really been an amazing week

0:40:48 > 0:40:52so it's just this last hurdle that's been a bit of a difficult one.

0:40:52 > 0:40:55I'm hoping Sam can see past that hurdle and see what amazing things

0:40:55 > 0:40:58we've done this week and reflect on that more than the negative today.

0:41:00 > 0:41:03My head's swimming with loads of different factors.

0:41:04 > 0:41:07There's lots of positives about Australia and...

0:41:07 > 0:41:09But there's just the emotional factor

0:41:09 > 0:41:11that I just can't get away from.

0:41:11 > 0:41:15Sam knows what a vote for the UK would do to her husband.

0:41:15 > 0:41:17I'll be shattering his dream.

0:41:17 > 0:41:19He'll be devastated.

0:41:19 > 0:41:23But she's equally aware what a move would mean to her mum.

0:41:23 > 0:41:27She will be completely devastated, gutted.

0:41:27 > 0:41:29There'd be a massive hole in her life.

0:41:29 > 0:41:32As their final vote approaches, both Sam and Dave

0:41:32 > 0:41:33are feeling the pressure.

0:41:33 > 0:41:35'Right now, I'm feeling quite nervous.'

0:41:35 > 0:41:37I can't really call how it's going to turn out.

0:41:37 > 0:41:39But we've now got to the cliffhanger.

0:41:39 > 0:41:42There are no more windows, this is literally the window shutting

0:41:42 > 0:41:44so we need to make that decision now.

0:41:44 > 0:41:47I genuinely don't know what I'm going to vote.

0:41:47 > 0:41:50I'm just thinking so many things at the moment. Um...

0:41:52 > 0:41:54I don't know what the answer's going to be.

0:41:56 > 0:42:00After an amazing week in Australia, it's now time for the final vote.

0:42:08 > 0:42:10- BOTH:- Australia!

0:42:11 > 0:42:12Australia? No?!

0:42:12 > 0:42:15I know. I just decided right at the end.

0:42:15 > 0:42:18You literally decided right at the end. That's unbelievable.

0:42:18 > 0:42:22The friends and family video really put doubts in my mind.

0:42:22 > 0:42:26Then I thought, you know, how it would feel if we didn't make

0:42:26 > 0:42:30the move and perhaps regretting at least not trying.

0:42:30 > 0:42:34I can see that the lifestyle's going to be fabulous out here.

0:42:34 > 0:42:37We at least need to give it a go and see how things work out.

0:42:37 > 0:42:39The fact that you chose Australia makes me realise

0:42:39 > 0:42:43you're seeing the bigger picture here. That's amazing, well done.

0:42:45 > 0:42:48Right, let's start planning to move to Australia.

0:42:48 > 0:42:53- Hey!- I want to go to the church, Mum.- What church?

0:42:55 > 0:42:58After a week of soul searching,

0:42:58 > 0:43:01Sam's second trip down under has finally convinced her

0:43:01 > 0:43:06to buy into her husband's dream of a new life in Australia.

0:43:06 > 0:43:08All that remains now is to get packing.

0:43:08 > 0:43:12We hope Sam, Dave, Sophie and Emily have a bright future

0:43:12 > 0:43:14ahead of them in the Australian sun.
