0:01:49 > 0:01:52them carve out more family time with their children.

0:01:52 > 0:01:57Now, she has just one week to convince Steven to turn his

0:02:20 > 0:02:22And it was a very memorable trip, indeed.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27The two kids had a chance to go up and sit with the captain

0:02:27 > 0:02:30- on the way over, didn't you? - That was amazing.- Yeah.

0:02:30 > 0:02:34You wore the hat, didn't you? Sat in the captain's chair?

0:02:34 > 0:02:37Yeah, it was quite cool going in the cockpit, with all the stuff,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39and, yeah.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41But despite the excitement,

0:02:41 > 0:02:45Steven remains cautious about the prospect of moving down under.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46It is going to take quite a bit

0:02:46 > 0:02:49to persuade me to come out to Australia.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51I've got to be able to get a good job -

0:02:51 > 0:02:53that's my main worry.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55As the family head out into Brisbane,

0:02:55 > 0:02:56Hedydd knows the next seven days

0:02:56 > 0:02:59will be her best chance at getting the life she wants.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Meet the Jamiesons from Cardigan in Wales.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08They're mum Hedydd, dad Steven,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11nine-year-old Leon, Eli, age six,

0:03:11 > 0:03:12and three-year-old Seth.

0:03:15 > 0:03:16Good evening, Jamieson's Steak House.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18As joint owners of a busy restaurant,

0:03:18 > 0:03:22Hedydd and Steven spend more time together than most couples.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Have I got table ten's food, please?

0:03:24 > 0:03:27It's an extra order on, so it'll be a couple of minutes.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30'It's less of a marriage and it's more of a business partnership.'

0:03:30 > 0:03:31All booked in for you.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33And you are way too bossy as well.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Bye.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37- PHONE BEEPS - I know.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40The couple first met when Hedydd began waitressing

0:03:40 > 0:03:42in a restaurant where Steven was a chef

0:03:42 > 0:03:4416 years ago.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46But everything changed when, age 21,

0:03:46 > 0:03:51she decided to swap her apron for an adventure in Australia.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54Pretty much two weeks before going, that's it,

0:03:54 > 0:03:57declared his undying love for me, said he couldn't live without me.

0:03:57 > 0:03:58"Please don't go."

0:04:00 > 0:04:02The idea of going to Australia

0:04:02 > 0:04:04was kind of put on hold for a while then.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07They opened the steak house seven years ago,

0:04:07 > 0:04:11but juggling 70-hour weeks with looking after three children

0:04:11 > 0:04:13is proving a recipe for disaster.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16We've missed sort of Christmas and birthdays,

0:04:16 > 0:04:19and if there's any occasion on, summer holidays,

0:04:19 > 0:04:21we work right through.

0:04:21 > 0:04:22It's quite hard going.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26Hedydd is concerned about the effect their workload is having on her

0:04:26 > 0:04:28relationship with the boys.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32I feel as if I'm losing control of bringing them up.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Seth, be quiet, cos Mummy's talking on the phone.

0:04:35 > 0:04:39'Because at the moment, even if the kids have been really ill,

0:04:39 > 0:04:42'I am not at home to look after them.'

0:04:42 > 0:04:46It's happened before. Eli's had asthma attacks, I've been in work,

0:04:46 > 0:04:48ambulances have had to be called.

0:04:48 > 0:04:49And, you know, I'm not there.

0:04:51 > 0:04:55Steven shares Hedydd's anxiety.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57They've got a great baby-sitter who looks after them,

0:04:57 > 0:05:00but it's not the same as Mum and Dad

0:05:00 > 0:05:03looking after them every night.

0:05:03 > 0:05:04Am I a tiger?

0:05:04 > 0:05:06- No.- Am I a person?

0:05:06 > 0:05:08Yes.

0:05:08 > 0:05:09Oldest son Leon agrees.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13I'd love to spend more time with my parents.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16Desperate for change, Hedydd has served up a solution -

0:05:16 > 0:05:20moving the family to the country she's dreamt of for over a decade.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24It's got to be Australia - that's it, I've decided.

0:05:24 > 0:05:25It's just gone like that now.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28I can't see anything else.

0:05:28 > 0:05:31For me, it's changing the lifestyle.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33And being a little bit more relaxed.

0:05:33 > 0:05:37Hedydd's got her sights set on the Gold Coast, but first,

0:05:37 > 0:05:39she needs to get Steven onside.

0:05:39 > 0:05:43Hedydd's planned it, and she's literally written it on one

0:05:43 > 0:05:46little bit of paper. It's like, "Pack, plane, Australia."

0:05:46 > 0:05:49Whereas I'm thinking, "How are we going to afford this?

0:05:49 > 0:05:51"How are we going to find a house?

0:05:51 > 0:05:52"How are we going to find a job?"

0:05:52 > 0:05:55I've thought about all of the important stuff,

0:05:55 > 0:05:58but I'm trying to put a positive spin on everything.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01Her positively has paid off with the younger boys.

0:06:01 > 0:06:05I'm really excited to go to Australia...

0:06:05 > 0:06:07because I can get new friends.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12I'm going there.

0:06:12 > 0:06:13I'm going.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15There's penguins there.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18- What colour do you want?- Blue.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20But despite craving more time with his parents,

0:06:20 > 0:06:23Leon's firmly on his dad's side.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25I don't want to go because, like,

0:06:25 > 0:06:26well, all my friends are here.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32The thought of being separated from family is also painful.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35I'll miss my grandparents, like, 100%.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37Come here.

0:06:37 > 0:06:38HE YELPS

0:06:38 > 0:06:39Cor!

0:06:39 > 0:06:41Who's the cutest one, do you think?

0:06:41 > 0:06:43- That one.- Yeah?

0:06:43 > 0:06:47Knowing the boys are her parents' only grandchildren is the one

0:06:47 > 0:06:49thing making Hedydd question the move.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51I'm very torn -

0:06:51 > 0:06:54I can't decide whether I'm being really selfish by making

0:06:54 > 0:06:55this move to Australia,

0:06:55 > 0:06:58or whether I am actually putting us as a family first.

0:06:58 > 0:06:59Bye-bye.

0:06:59 > 0:07:02- MOOING - Bye-bye, calves.

0:07:02 > 0:07:05Ultimately, though, she's desperate to address their situation,

0:07:05 > 0:07:08and hopes the opportunity to show them what life in Australia

0:07:08 > 0:07:12could be like will help her seal the deal.

0:07:12 > 0:07:16Leon needs to see what he can get if we go there...

0:07:18 > 0:07:20..and so does Steven.

0:07:20 > 0:07:22This is the last chance for Hedydd now.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25We've all got to be wanting to go, so...

0:07:25 > 0:07:29it's going to take a little bit more convincing.

0:07:29 > 0:07:30INAUDIBLE

0:07:38 > 0:07:42The Jamiesons are visiting Australia's Gold Coast in the

0:07:42 > 0:07:46State of Queensland. Their base for the week is in Mermaid Beach,

0:07:46 > 0:07:49a coastal area just one hour south of Brisbane.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51But will this five-bedroom house live up

0:07:51 > 0:07:53to Hedydd's high expectations?

0:07:55 > 0:07:57- Aw!- This looks nice, doesn't it?

0:07:57 > 0:07:58It's really cute.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02- This is MY style, isn't it? - HE LAUGHS

0:08:02 > 0:08:04Yeah, yeah.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07That's good, and the boys have spotted something they like, too.

0:08:07 > 0:08:09- STEVEN LAUGHS - What's that? what have you seen?

0:08:09 > 0:08:12- The beach.- The beach? - ALL:- Yeah.

0:08:14 > 0:08:15- HEDYDD AND STEVEN:- Oh, my God!

0:08:15 > 0:08:16STEVEN LAUGHS

0:08:18 > 0:08:19This is the dream.

0:08:20 > 0:08:21Yeah.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23Couldn't get closer if you tried.

0:08:29 > 0:08:32Watching the children play gives Hedydd hope about

0:08:32 > 0:08:34convincing Leon to move.

0:08:34 > 0:08:35This week might do it.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38When we talked about it before, he's like, "No,

0:08:38 > 0:08:40"I don't want to leave my friends, I don't want to leave my school."

0:08:40 > 0:08:42All the stuff I've been talking about,

0:08:42 > 0:08:45he needs to be able to see it for himself.

0:08:45 > 0:08:49But despite a positive start, Steven's still sitting on the fence.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52We've got to be able to afford a lifestyle like this.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54Steven, I'd live in a shed if it was here.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56- Run here, this side.- Go!

0:08:56 > 0:08:59This side. This side.

0:08:59 > 0:09:00What if we don't agree at the end of the week?

0:09:02 > 0:09:05One of us has got to change our minds about what we're going to do.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07- HEDYDD:- It's nice.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09This is nice, isn't it?

0:09:14 > 0:09:18Back in the UK, the Jamiesons live in a converted schoolhouse

0:09:18 > 0:09:20in the West Wales coastal town of Cardigan.

0:09:20 > 0:09:24What we're sitting in now is one of the old classrooms.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28But then this bit on the side is the headmaster's house,

0:09:28 > 0:09:30so there's only two bedrooms upstairs,

0:09:30 > 0:09:33and then we've converted one room downstairs into our bedroom.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35They've worked hard to make it a home,

0:09:35 > 0:09:39but Hedydd knows exactly what she's looking for down under.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41I just want like a small, cutey beach house.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43I've got it all in my head.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46Steven, on the other hand, might be harder to please.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49Four bedrooms, a large living room,

0:09:49 > 0:09:52lots of outside space, and, hopefully, a swimming pool.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57If they do move, the family's property budget

0:09:57 > 0:10:00would be £350,000.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02To see what their money could buy in Australia,

0:10:02 > 0:10:04we'll show the Jamiesons three properties -

0:10:04 > 0:10:08two based on budget and a third which could be their dream home.

0:10:08 > 0:10:12Only after they've viewed each one will they find out its value.

0:10:14 > 0:10:16House-hunting begins in Currumbin Waters,

0:10:16 > 0:10:20a southern suburb close to some of the best beaches on the Gold Coast.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23With schools and amenities nearby,

0:10:23 > 0:10:26this family-friendly area should offer the Jamiesons

0:10:26 > 0:10:28the beach lifestyle Hedydd craves.

0:10:28 > 0:10:30So that's nice.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33But will this four-bedroom home be to their liking?

0:10:33 > 0:10:36- It's quite cute, isn't it? - Yeah, it looks nice.

0:10:36 > 0:10:37Check out all of that over there.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40Palm trees. What do you reckon, Seth?

0:10:40 > 0:10:41- Do you like it here?- Yeah.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44- Eli?- Yeah.- STEVEN:- Yeah?

0:10:44 > 0:10:47- It looks nice, does it? - STEVEN LAUGHS

0:10:47 > 0:10:49Let's go and check it out, see what it looks like.

0:10:49 > 0:10:50Let's go in.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53Location's winning - what about inside?

0:10:53 > 0:10:56I didn't really know what to expect, really, yeah. I quite like it.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58And Steven?

0:10:58 > 0:10:59It's nice - it's done up nice,

0:10:59 > 0:11:02it looks nice - it's not that big, though, is it?

0:11:02 > 0:11:04But I don't like big houses - not too big.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07- Think of all the cleaning. - SHE LAUGHS

0:11:07 > 0:11:08No comment?

0:11:08 > 0:11:11But Steven's not convinced.

0:11:12 > 0:11:13As the kids get bigger,

0:11:13 > 0:11:15they're going to be taking over the house,

0:11:15 > 0:11:17and this will be not big enough in here.

0:11:17 > 0:11:18Hmm.

0:11:20 > 0:11:21This is cute.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24Moving on, the spacious kitchen could help.

0:11:24 > 0:11:25It's not so small now.

0:11:25 > 0:11:28No. I didn't realise it was going to open out.

0:11:28 > 0:11:30I think I could manage with this-size kitchen.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33It's not massive, but it's enough.

0:11:33 > 0:11:36- Where do you want to go, Seth?- Left!

0:11:36 > 0:11:37Husband sorted,

0:11:37 > 0:11:39Hedydd turns her attention to Leon.

0:11:39 > 0:11:42Definitely a boy's room.

0:11:42 > 0:11:43What, yours, is it?

0:11:43 > 0:11:45- Your room? That's good.- OK.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48Are we starting to convince you, or what?

0:11:48 > 0:11:49- Mm, a bit. - STEVEN LAUGHS

0:11:52 > 0:11:54It's an easier sell to little Seth.

0:11:54 > 0:11:56Oh, look. That's my toys.

0:11:56 > 0:11:59- HEDYDD:- They're your toys? I don't think they're yours.

0:11:59 > 0:12:00It's MY bedroom.

0:12:00 > 0:12:02- This is your bedroom?- Yeah.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05- The toys might have swung it for Seth.- Yeah.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07The master bedroom gets a big thumbs up.

0:12:07 > 0:12:09Oh!

0:12:09 > 0:12:11This would be Mum and Dad's room.

0:12:11 > 0:12:12Walk-in wardrobe.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15Do you reckon I'd get all my clothes in there, Steven?

0:12:15 > 0:12:17- Yeah, probably.- I don't know where you'd put yours.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20And it's a room with a view.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23- What's out in the garden?- There's a view of the swimming pool.

0:12:23 > 0:12:25That's really nice.

0:12:25 > 0:12:26Wow!

0:12:26 > 0:12:27Look.

0:12:27 > 0:12:30Outside, they get a better look.

0:12:30 > 0:12:31That is quite a nice pool.

0:12:31 > 0:12:33- It's huge. - SETH:- I'm going to go in there.

0:12:33 > 0:12:35- You want to go in there?- Yeah.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38Steven's beginning to see real potential.

0:12:38 > 0:12:39Yeah, it'd be a nice area,

0:12:39 > 0:12:41cooking out here, having friends over, barbecue.

0:12:41 > 0:12:44You would be cooking me my dinner whilst I'm relaxing

0:12:44 > 0:12:45- in the pool?- Yeah.

0:12:45 > 0:12:46Sounds perfect.

0:12:46 > 0:12:50An outhouse gives Hedydd even more ideas...

0:12:50 > 0:12:51Oh, my God! What's this?

0:12:52 > 0:12:56This could be like our little bar area by the pool.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59..and adds fuel to her fight for life down under.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01Yeah, is it big enough for three boys now?

0:13:01 > 0:13:03It's quite big inside.

0:13:03 > 0:13:04I know.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06Hedydd might have Steven onboard for now,

0:13:06 > 0:13:10but the couple need to find out if their £350,000 budget

0:13:10 > 0:13:12could buy a place like this.

0:13:14 > 0:13:15- Right.- OK.

0:13:15 > 0:13:18If it's around the 300, that's a good price, and...

0:13:18 > 0:13:21- affordable.- I'm going to say 330.

0:13:21 > 0:13:23Eli, do you want to turn it over?

0:13:30 > 0:13:33- Ooh.- Ooh, it was under my guess. - SHE LAUGHS

0:13:33 > 0:13:36That's £24,000 under budget.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39I feel OK about the price.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43I can sense you're not so happy.

0:13:43 > 0:13:45- Well, I was hoping... - The cheaper the better, but...

0:13:45 > 0:13:47I was hoping it was going to be less.

0:13:47 > 0:13:50It may be affordable, but Steven clearly wants

0:13:50 > 0:13:52to see more for his money.

0:13:52 > 0:13:55Hopefully, property two can deliver what he's after.

0:13:55 > 0:13:57Staying in Currumbin Waters,

0:13:57 > 0:14:00the family don't have far to go to find out.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03Will this four-bedroom house in its own secluded grounds

0:14:03 > 0:14:06be the one to get Steven excited about a move?

0:14:06 > 0:14:09- This is different, isn't it? - This is really different.

0:14:09 > 0:14:11It's like being in the jungle, isn't it?

0:14:11 > 0:14:12HE LAUGHS

0:14:12 > 0:14:14How much wildlife do you reckon is round here?

0:14:14 > 0:14:15HE LAUGHS

0:14:16 > 0:14:18Hedydd sounds unsure,

0:14:18 > 0:14:21but it doesn't stop them going in for closer inspection.

0:14:21 > 0:14:23Oh, my.

0:14:23 > 0:14:24- HEDYDD:- Oh!

0:14:24 > 0:14:27It's amazing. That's more like it.

0:14:27 > 0:14:29The boys like what they see.

0:14:29 > 0:14:30Can I go on that?

0:14:30 > 0:14:33Oh, there's a slide there. Yeah.

0:14:35 > 0:14:37While the younger boys play,

0:14:37 > 0:14:39Hedydd tests the water with Leon.

0:14:39 > 0:14:40Check out this pool.

0:14:42 > 0:14:45I don't know who would have more fun on that, you or me.

0:14:45 > 0:14:47That looks cool.

0:14:47 > 0:14:51- Feels a bit more like a family home, doesn't it...?- Yeah.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54..from the outside geared up for kids, and they'd be happy.

0:14:54 > 0:14:56- They'd be out here all the time, wouldn't they?- Yeah.

0:14:56 > 0:15:00Heading inside, Mum and Dad explore what else the house offers.

0:15:00 > 0:15:02Hmm.

0:15:04 > 0:15:07It's looking out over the garden, which is quite good.

0:15:07 > 0:15:09So at least if the boys are out playing...

0:15:10 > 0:15:14It's got big windows, big doors going outside.

0:15:14 > 0:15:15Nice and open.

0:15:16 > 0:15:17And the kitchen?

0:15:17 > 0:15:19I think it needs a bit of updating, maybe.

0:15:19 > 0:15:21We'd change it around a little bit.

0:15:21 > 0:15:25Lick of paint. And a clean-up, cos you know what I'm like.

0:15:25 > 0:15:27Just like, "Oh."

0:15:27 > 0:15:30Upstairs, Steven's unimpressed with the family bathroom.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32Bit of modernisation in here, I think.

0:15:32 > 0:15:34Mind you, we can't really comment -

0:15:34 > 0:15:37- our bathroom at home needs a new bathroom...- Yeah.- ..doesn't it?

0:15:37 > 0:15:39Hedydd sidesteps Steven's negativity

0:15:39 > 0:15:42until she spots an issue in the master bedroom.

0:15:44 > 0:15:46Hmm.

0:15:46 > 0:15:48Yeah? Master bedroom.

0:15:48 > 0:15:49Look at the dust.

0:15:49 > 0:15:51- I know. I mean, that's... - Oh, my God.

0:15:51 > 0:15:55Well, maybe... Maybe these people are too busy loving life...

0:15:55 > 0:15:57- Yeah.- ..to be worrying about their house.- Yeah.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00It's a fair point...

0:16:00 > 0:16:01- Needs a new en suite.- Yeah.

0:16:02 > 0:16:04..but things look better from the balcony.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09- It's definitely like a proper family home, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:16:09 > 0:16:11The outside area's great.

0:16:11 > 0:16:13The kids are really happy, aren't they?

0:16:13 > 0:16:15Yeah.

0:16:15 > 0:16:17The house has evoked mixed reactions,

0:16:17 > 0:16:21but the couple are still keen to find out how much it costs.

0:16:21 > 0:16:23I know it needs a little bit of work doing,

0:16:23 > 0:16:26but I think it's going to be 350, if not a bit more.

0:16:26 > 0:16:28I'm saying 340. Do you want to turn it over?

0:16:28 > 0:16:30- OK, then.- Who's going to be the winner?

0:16:36 > 0:16:38- Oh. - SHE EXHALES

0:16:38 > 0:16:42That's almost £20,000 over budget.

0:16:42 > 0:16:43- That's a lot. - SHE LAUGHS

0:16:43 > 0:16:45That's not going to sway me to move to Australia.

0:16:45 > 0:16:49Maybe the next house will be more our taste.

0:16:54 > 0:16:56With Hedydd staying positive,

0:16:56 > 0:16:58the family swap coastal living

0:16:58 > 0:17:01for the rural suburb of Maudsland.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04With nearby schools, parks and access to major road links,

0:17:04 > 0:17:06it's a popular location for families

0:17:06 > 0:17:08seeking more bang for their buck.

0:17:10 > 0:17:11Ooh, this is the house here.

0:17:11 > 0:17:15- This is all right, isn't it?- Yeah, it's a nice, yeah, nice street.

0:17:15 > 0:17:17But will this three-bedroom house have enough scope

0:17:17 > 0:17:19to be the Jamiesons' dream home?

0:17:20 > 0:17:21Ah.

0:17:23 > 0:17:25- Yeah, nice, big entrance. - Open and airy.

0:17:25 > 0:17:28- Feels really nice. - SETH:- Yeah.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30It's a good start.

0:17:30 > 0:17:32Bedroom here.

0:17:32 > 0:17:33- This is nice.- Yeah.

0:17:33 > 0:17:35Oh, check that out.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39- Yeah, that's nice, isn't it? - Yeah, I love this.

0:17:40 > 0:17:42This is Mum's style of bathroom.

0:17:42 > 0:17:43What's behind this door?

0:17:48 > 0:17:50There's enough room in this walk-in wardrobe for you

0:17:50 > 0:17:52to actually play toys.

0:17:52 > 0:17:55- I don't want to be stuck in here. - This could be like a tropical birdhouse.

0:17:55 > 0:17:57HEDYDD LAUGHS

0:17:57 > 0:17:58Quite right, Seth!

0:17:59 > 0:18:01- Do you want to go outside and have a look?- See what's out there?

0:18:01 > 0:18:03Go on, then. You boys go outside.

0:18:03 > 0:18:05Mum and Dad are going to carry on looking at the house.

0:18:05 > 0:18:06OK?

0:18:08 > 0:18:09Do you like this living area?

0:18:09 > 0:18:13Yeah. It all kind of just flows into one.

0:18:13 > 0:18:14- It's got nice...- Cos from here,

0:18:14 > 0:18:18all you can see is the little water fountain running into the pool.

0:18:18 > 0:18:20It's quite relaxing.

0:18:20 > 0:18:23This house has the chilled-out vibe

0:18:23 > 0:18:24Hedydd's been looking for.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27- I love it.- Yeah.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29- Let's check out this kitchen a bit more.- Yeah.

0:18:29 > 0:18:33- Kitchen's nice.- It's literally got its own little wash-up area.- Yeah.

0:18:33 > 0:18:36It's like being in work, isn't it?

0:18:36 > 0:18:39Not sure that's a good thing, Hedydd!

0:18:39 > 0:18:42- Oh!- Wow, you got, like, a little snug.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45I don't know if I'd use this for something different, though.

0:18:45 > 0:18:47Maybe a playroom for the kids?

0:18:47 > 0:18:50Toys would be spilling out onto there, making a mess.

0:18:50 > 0:18:52Hedydd has a better idea.

0:18:52 > 0:18:54You could easily make it into another bedroom.

0:18:54 > 0:18:56- You could put a door up here... - Yeah.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58- ..couldn't you?- Yeah.

0:18:58 > 0:18:59And outside...

0:18:59 > 0:19:00Mm-hm!

0:19:00 > 0:19:03That's really nice, isn't it? Like a bit of that.

0:19:03 > 0:19:05- Nice? Better than nice.- Yeah, yeah.

0:19:05 > 0:19:07You'd be eating out here in the evening, getting in that pool.

0:19:07 > 0:19:11- You're going to be spending half your time out here.- Outside, yeah, it's lovely, isn't it?

0:19:12 > 0:19:14This house has ticked a lot of boxes,

0:19:14 > 0:19:18but can they afford it with their £350,000 budget?

0:19:20 > 0:19:22It's going to be a lot, I think.

0:19:22 > 0:19:25- What do you reckon? - I reckon about 400.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27It might be even more.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30- Yeah. It does look that. - I reckon 410.

0:19:30 > 0:19:32Shall we have a look and see what it is?

0:19:32 > 0:19:35Seth. Going to turn it over?

0:19:42 > 0:19:45- STEVEN:- Yes - HEDYDD LAUGHS

0:19:46 > 0:19:48Beauty!

0:19:48 > 0:19:50- Wow, that's a shock.- High five.

0:19:50 > 0:19:51- That is a shock.- Happy days.

0:19:53 > 0:19:55It's well within budget.

0:19:56 > 0:19:58I was thinking it was going to be a lot more than that.

0:19:58 > 0:19:59It's because we're away from the coast.

0:19:59 > 0:20:01It's got to be, hasn't it? How do you feel now?

0:20:01 > 0:20:05- Well, if we can get a house... - You're the one that needs convincing, not me.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07If we can get a house like that for that kind of price,

0:20:07 > 0:20:09then that's going to make a difference.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12Mum and Dad are pleased, but Leon's not budging.

0:20:12 > 0:20:15Well, the house is nice, but I'd still want to live in Wales.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18- Why?- Because of all my friends.

0:20:18 > 0:20:20Leon's not buying it, but all-in-all,

0:20:20 > 0:20:24house-hunting has given the family plenty of food for thought.

0:20:26 > 0:20:28Property one was below budget,

0:20:28 > 0:20:29but even with a pool,

0:20:29 > 0:20:32Steven wasn't convinced it offered value for money.

0:20:34 > 0:20:35Coming in over budget,

0:20:35 > 0:20:38the grounds of property two wowed,

0:20:38 > 0:20:40but it bit the dust for Hedydd when the

0:20:40 > 0:20:43interiors failed to impress.

0:20:43 > 0:20:44Although more inland,

0:20:44 > 0:20:47the final house of the day was

0:20:47 > 0:20:49a hit with both Steven and Hedydd,

0:20:49 > 0:20:51and discovering it was affordable was a real bonus.

0:20:51 > 0:20:55So how will the family vote when it comes to choosing between

0:20:55 > 0:20:58property in Australia and the UK?

0:20:58 > 0:21:00We've had a fab day looking at houses today.

0:21:00 > 0:21:02All three different properties.

0:21:02 > 0:21:04Based on that, we are going to vote for...

0:21:14 > 0:21:15- ALL:- Australia!

0:21:15 > 0:21:18HEDYDD SQUEALS

0:21:18 > 0:21:19Australia!

0:21:19 > 0:21:22Australia? Australia, everybody?

0:21:22 > 0:21:23You chose Australia?

0:21:23 > 0:21:27- Yeah.- Well, the houses are a lot bigger out here and, well,

0:21:27 > 0:21:28there's swimming pools.

0:21:28 > 0:21:31How come you chose Australia?

0:21:31 > 0:21:34Being here a couple of days now, seeing a few of the houses,

0:21:34 > 0:21:35they all seem really nice.

0:21:35 > 0:21:37I could have lived in any of those houses.

0:21:37 > 0:21:39OK, maybe not the middle one!

0:21:49 > 0:21:53A clean sweep of votes for Australia means Hedydd's dream of a new life

0:21:53 > 0:21:57on the other side of the world hasn't been washed out to sea.

0:21:57 > 0:22:00But that could all change if Steven can't be convinced

0:22:00 > 0:22:03he'll find work down under.

0:22:03 > 0:22:05Back in the UK, the couple run a steak house

0:22:05 > 0:22:08in their hometown in Wales.

0:22:08 > 0:22:10Our restaurant does take over our life.

0:22:10 > 0:22:12It's unavoidable.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15Everything's got to fit around work, and that's how it goes.

0:22:16 > 0:22:20Hedydd is the restaurant manager, while chef Steven heads up a

0:22:20 > 0:22:22busy kitchen and puts in long hours.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25Anything from nine, ten o'clock in the morning,

0:22:25 > 0:22:27and work till midnight most nights.

0:22:27 > 0:22:30In the busy times, that's seven days a week.

0:22:30 > 0:22:32Variable income and a work-life imbalance

0:22:32 > 0:22:35are some of the pitfalls of being a business owner,

0:22:35 > 0:22:37and Hedydd's ready to give it the chop.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41If I had my choice I would go off and do what I do now, but do it

0:22:41 > 0:22:43for somebody else,

0:22:43 > 0:22:45so that when I've finished work, that's it -

0:22:45 > 0:22:47I can switch off, go home.

0:22:47 > 0:22:51But she knows securing the future she wants is dependent

0:22:51 > 0:22:55on convincing her husband he'll be able to find work down under.

0:22:55 > 0:22:57We've got to find Steven the right job.

0:22:57 > 0:22:59If we can't find him the right job,

0:22:59 > 0:23:01I don't think he's going to be willing to go.

0:23:09 > 0:23:11While the boys are looked after by a childminder,

0:23:11 > 0:23:14the couple set about exploring work options

0:23:14 > 0:23:18on the Gold Coast, and Steven's fearful about the day ahead.

0:23:18 > 0:23:20I'm a little worried about my age,

0:23:20 > 0:23:24and they might be looking for younger candidates for jobs.

0:23:24 > 0:23:28We've arranged for Steven to meet up with expat and manager Nick Owens

0:23:28 > 0:23:30at a surf club in Burleigh Heads,

0:23:30 > 0:23:33around nine miles from the Gold Coast central business area.

0:23:33 > 0:23:36- Hi, Steve.- Hiya.- Nice to meet you, mate, I'm Nick.

0:23:36 > 0:23:38- Welcome to the Burleigh Surf Club. - Thank you.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41Steven cuts straight to the chase.

0:23:41 > 0:23:44What do you think, then, obviously, my age now, because I'm 47?

0:23:44 > 0:23:47Mate, seriously, I'd probably favour that, myself.

0:23:47 > 0:23:49- You've probably got a family, you know?- Yeah.

0:23:49 > 0:23:50You get a bit of commitment for them.

0:23:50 > 0:23:53- But, mate, I reckon you're in the prime of your life, mate!- Yeah?

0:23:53 > 0:23:54HE LAUGHS

0:23:54 > 0:23:58Reassured, Steven asks about shift patterns.

0:23:58 > 0:24:00- It is a lot of nights, and the weekends are mainly work.- Right.

0:24:01 > 0:24:04- You know, the place is busy.- Yeah.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07Doing evenings and weekends is what Steven hopes to avoid,

0:24:07 > 0:24:09but he's still keen to find out how many hours

0:24:09 > 0:24:11he'd work in a typical week.

0:24:12 > 0:24:1540 hours - you get your four weeks annual leave,

0:24:15 > 0:24:18and you holiday pay and all the sick pay and all that,

0:24:18 > 0:24:20- so it's not too bad. - Yeah, that's good.

0:24:20 > 0:24:23You know, a busy night here, you're still done and dusted by,

0:24:23 > 0:24:25the chefs, 9:30.

0:24:25 > 0:24:29Even working evenings, Steven's hours would drop substantially.

0:24:29 > 0:24:31Meanwhile, further along the coast,

0:24:31 > 0:24:34Hedydd is meeting chef and business owner

0:24:34 > 0:24:37Luke Turner at a deli restaurant in Southport.

0:24:38 > 0:24:40- Hi.- Hi.- Hedydd, how are you? - Hedydd.- Nice to meet you.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43- You OK? - Yeah, good to see you.- Good.

0:24:43 > 0:24:44Used to being her own boss,

0:24:44 > 0:24:47Hedydd wants to know what a role here would entail.

0:24:47 > 0:24:49We're looking for leaders.

0:24:49 > 0:24:52We're looking for people that can organise a group

0:24:52 > 0:24:54and be organised themselves.

0:24:54 > 0:24:58Sounds good, but the deal-breaker for Hedydd will be the hours.

0:24:58 > 0:25:01The minimum standards are 38 hours, and five days a week.

0:25:01 > 0:25:03- Yeah, that's part-time!- Very much part-time.

0:25:03 > 0:25:04THEY LAUGH

0:25:04 > 0:25:06It's normally six till four,

0:25:06 > 0:25:08or you might do nine till close.

0:25:08 > 0:25:11- What kind of time do you close? - We're open six till six.

0:25:11 > 0:25:14It's the daytime hours Hedydd dreams of.

0:25:14 > 0:25:18All she needs to know now is how much she could earn.

0:25:18 > 0:25:21We'd look at an average salary for a restaurant manager

0:25:21 > 0:25:24- around 65-70.- OK.- That's all right? - Yeah.

0:25:24 > 0:25:26Sounds pretty good.

0:25:27 > 0:25:31That's up to £37,000 annually,

0:25:31 > 0:25:34a hike on her most recent earnings of £25,000.

0:25:36 > 0:25:40And even better news, there's plenty of work available.

0:25:40 > 0:25:43At the moment, it's a very...very much a skills shortage area.

0:25:43 > 0:25:47The way that we overcome that is by looking for sponsorship.

0:25:47 > 0:25:49We have about... I think we have nine sponsored staff

0:25:49 > 0:25:52on the books, between chefs and restaurant managers

0:25:52 > 0:25:54and people with your sort of experience

0:25:54 > 0:25:55don't come along every day.

0:25:55 > 0:25:57- Happy days. - HE LAUGHS

0:25:57 > 0:26:01Hedydd's delighted, but it's not cause for celebration just yet.

0:26:01 > 0:26:04I'm just nervous on how Steven gets on now, really.

0:26:04 > 0:26:07It doesn't matter how good a day I've had,

0:26:07 > 0:26:09if he isn't happy later on, that's it.

0:26:11 > 0:26:15Back at the surf club, Steven asks the all-important question.

0:26:15 > 0:26:18What kind of salary do you think I could get?

0:26:18 > 0:26:20Around 65-70 grand.

0:26:20 > 0:26:22That's the kind of figure I think I'd be expecting to pay.

0:26:22 > 0:26:24- That's good.- Yeah?- That sounds good. - Yeah.

0:26:24 > 0:26:25That sounds really good.

0:26:27 > 0:26:30Stephen would be guaranteed £37,000

0:26:30 > 0:26:34per year, and would no longer face seasonal changes

0:26:34 > 0:26:36to his income as a restaurant owner.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38If you were thinking of making a move,

0:26:38 > 0:26:40being a chef, I think, you know,

0:26:40 > 0:26:42you're coming to the right place, you really are.

0:26:42 > 0:26:45I think you won't look back, mate. Looks good, doesn't it?

0:26:45 > 0:26:47- NICK LAUGHS - Yeah, it sounds good, yeah.

0:26:48 > 0:26:52It's been a great day work-wise for the couple, and when they reunite

0:26:52 > 0:26:54on the beach, they're delighted at each other's news.

0:26:56 > 0:26:59- OK?- Yeah, it's good. How did you get on?

0:26:59 > 0:27:02So the guy I met actually does sponsor people in,

0:27:02 > 0:27:07- and he's, like, crying out for restaurant managers.- Yeah.

0:27:07 > 0:27:10Salary was between 65 and 70.

0:27:10 > 0:27:1238 hours a week.

0:27:12 > 0:27:14And that was just daytime.

0:27:14 > 0:27:15My job was like part-time.

0:27:15 > 0:27:18Like, it's 38-40 hours.

0:27:18 > 0:27:21Again, 65-70,000.

0:27:21 > 0:27:23- You see? I told you.- Yeah.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28So when it comes to choosing between jobs at home or away,

0:27:28 > 0:27:30what will the couple go for?

0:27:31 > 0:27:33We've had our work day now, which we've both enjoyed,

0:27:33 > 0:27:35and we both learned a lot of things.

0:27:35 > 0:27:38And with that in mind, we're now going to vote.

0:27:44 > 0:27:46Australia.

0:27:46 > 0:27:47Joke! Australia.

0:27:47 > 0:27:48SHE LAUGHS

0:27:51 > 0:27:53- Ooh-ooh! - CHEERING

0:27:53 > 0:27:55- THEY LAUGH - Wa-hey!

0:27:57 > 0:28:00- We've got some friends already, you see?- Hey, we've got friends!

0:28:06 > 0:28:09Encouraged by work prospects down under,

0:28:09 > 0:28:12Steven's second vote for Australia suggests he's developing

0:28:12 > 0:28:15an appetite for Hedydd's dream.

0:28:15 > 0:28:18Desperate for more family time together,

0:28:18 > 0:28:22she's now hopeful a serving of the laid-back lifestyle

0:28:22 > 0:28:25the country's famed for will give them all a further taste

0:28:25 > 0:28:28of what life could be like down under.

0:28:31 > 0:28:33Making the most of rare time together,

0:28:33 > 0:28:36the family are spending their day at one of the Gold Coast's

0:28:36 > 0:28:39landmark spots, Burleigh National Park,

0:28:39 > 0:28:42just four miles from their base in Mermaid Beach.

0:28:42 > 0:28:46To begin, the children burn off some energy at an oceanfront play park.

0:28:50 > 0:28:52Next up, a mountain walk.

0:28:57 > 0:29:01After a busy morning, the family kick back at Tallebudgera Creek.

0:29:01 > 0:29:05- That looks cool, doesn't it? - Oh! Nice!

0:29:05 > 0:29:09It's been a welcome opportunity to have quality time with the boys,

0:29:09 > 0:29:13but Steven's also used the day to reflect on the potentially

0:29:13 > 0:29:16life-changing decision he faces come the end of the week.

0:29:18 > 0:29:20Hedydd seems to think, yes, we can move,

0:29:20 > 0:29:22and it'll just all fall into place.

0:29:22 > 0:29:24I think, "What can go wrong?"

0:29:24 > 0:29:27And we are going slightly different directions with that.

0:29:27 > 0:29:30Despite his earlier votes for Australia,

0:29:30 > 0:29:32Hedydd knows he's wavering.

0:29:32 > 0:29:34Every time I think I've got somewhere with him,

0:29:34 > 0:29:37he'll turn around and he's got something else to say,

0:29:37 > 0:29:40and suddenly he doesn't seem so keen.

0:29:40 > 0:29:42I have got a battle on my hands.

0:29:42 > 0:29:43I've got a big battle.

0:29:43 > 0:29:45- STEVEN:- Ready?

0:29:45 > 0:29:46Fortunately for her,

0:29:46 > 0:29:48today's chance to hang out as a family

0:29:48 > 0:29:50could be winning Leon over.

0:29:51 > 0:29:54It's been a lot nicer having time to be

0:29:54 > 0:29:57with Mum and Dad, rather than them

0:29:57 > 0:29:59just working all the time.

0:29:59 > 0:30:02I don't really get to see them much.

0:30:02 > 0:30:03Makes me feel a bit sad.

0:30:05 > 0:30:07They're all together now,

0:30:07 > 0:30:10but will everyone be united come the end of the week?

0:30:12 > 0:30:15Meanwhile, has the day done enough to convince them of the

0:30:15 > 0:30:16lifestyle Australia can offer?

0:30:18 > 0:30:21We've had a lovely day today on the beach and in the National Park.

0:30:21 > 0:30:24And based on that, we've decided to vote for...

0:30:29 > 0:30:31- ALL:- Australia!

0:30:31 > 0:30:33- Maybe not. Australia! - LAUGHTER

0:30:33 > 0:30:35- STEVEN:- You want to go to Australia?

0:30:35 > 0:30:36I like swimming.

0:30:36 > 0:30:38- You like swimming, yeah?- Yeah.

0:30:38 > 0:30:40Eli, you want Australia?

0:30:40 > 0:30:42- Yeah.- You like it today?

0:30:42 > 0:30:44- Have a good day? - Yeah, it's very nice.

0:30:44 > 0:30:46You liked it? So why did you choose Australia?

0:30:46 > 0:30:49- I chose Australia because it's a lot nicer and hotter...- Yeah?

0:30:49 > 0:30:51..and there's more family time as well,

0:30:51 > 0:30:53so I can spend times with you guys.

0:30:53 > 0:30:56Are you coming round to my way of thinking?

0:30:56 > 0:30:59A little bit. Still got some worries, but, yeah, it was good.

0:31:01 > 0:31:02Steven, it's better than good.

0:31:14 > 0:31:17The week so far has gone Hedydd's way,

0:31:17 > 0:31:19but to keep Steven invested in her dream,

0:31:19 > 0:31:22she knows the finances will have to stack up.

0:31:22 > 0:31:23If they do move,

0:31:23 > 0:31:27the couple plan to sell their home, and believe it to be worth

0:31:27 > 0:31:30around £350,000.

0:31:30 > 0:31:33To see if they're right, we sent two estate agents round.

0:31:35 > 0:31:37And back at base, while the younger boys play,

0:31:37 > 0:31:40the rest of the family sit down to watch the results.

0:31:43 > 0:31:45So this is obviously a lovely room.

0:31:45 > 0:31:46Nice double-height space.

0:31:46 > 0:31:48Real nice picture windows.

0:31:48 > 0:31:51Real wood flooring. Yeah, real credit to the house.

0:31:51 > 0:31:52- You missing that now?- No.

0:31:52 > 0:31:54No?

0:31:54 > 0:31:56This is a really nice kitchen.

0:31:56 > 0:31:59I think it's got a country theme that people will like.

0:31:59 > 0:32:01Think it's very appealing.

0:32:01 > 0:32:02Good-size master bedroom.

0:32:02 > 0:32:04Oh, there's our bedroom. Oh, no.

0:32:04 > 0:32:06Nice feature fireplace.

0:32:06 > 0:32:08The only small drawback I can see is probably

0:32:08 > 0:32:10that it comes off the kitchen.

0:32:10 > 0:32:13Wow. This is a fantastic room.

0:32:13 > 0:32:17Particularly love the vaulted ceiling and the exposed beams.

0:32:17 > 0:32:21I think this is a wow factor room, ideal for families.

0:32:21 > 0:32:23I think everybody will really love this room.

0:32:23 > 0:32:25Good-size family bathroom.

0:32:25 > 0:32:28- Oh, no, the bathroom. - SHE LAUGHS

0:32:28 > 0:32:31Could probably do with some updating.

0:32:31 > 0:32:34In the current property market, I value this property at £320,000.

0:32:34 > 0:32:36If they wanted a quick sale,

0:32:36 > 0:32:39they'd probably have to come below the £300,000 to £290,000.

0:32:39 > 0:32:40Oh.

0:32:40 > 0:32:44I would value this property at £270,000.

0:32:44 > 0:32:46- What?! - SHE LAUGHS

0:32:46 > 0:32:49But if the owner would like a quicker sale,

0:32:49 > 0:32:52I would advise £249,950.

0:32:52 > 0:32:54What did you think about that, then?

0:32:54 > 0:32:57I'm thinking I'm not going to use the second estate agent!

0:32:57 > 0:32:58No, no.

0:32:58 > 0:33:01I mean, we can't afford to sell it at that price.

0:33:01 > 0:33:03- No.- You know?

0:33:03 > 0:33:05No.

0:33:07 > 0:33:09With the valuations lower than expected,

0:33:09 > 0:33:13the couple now need to consider the costs involved in making a move.

0:33:14 > 0:33:17- Let's do it, then, shall we? - I really hope this is going to

0:33:17 > 0:33:19work in my favour.

0:33:19 > 0:33:21To help, we've provided a breakdown of living expenses,

0:33:21 > 0:33:24starting with the weekly grocery shop.

0:33:24 > 0:33:26Biscuits, tiny bit more expensive.

0:33:26 > 0:33:29But you need to cut back on biscuits anyway.

0:33:29 > 0:33:31I don't eat biscuits.

0:33:31 > 0:33:32OK(!)

0:33:32 > 0:33:34Red wine gone for you.

0:33:34 > 0:33:37Totting up the sums reveals their groceries would be just over

0:33:37 > 0:33:39£3 more down under.

0:33:40 > 0:33:42- It's literally the same.- Yeah.

0:33:42 > 0:33:45Next, they look at the bigger bills,

0:33:45 > 0:33:47starting with the mortgage repayments,

0:33:47 > 0:33:50and basing figures on the third property they viewed.

0:33:51 > 0:33:54Our mortgage payment at home is 900,

0:33:54 > 0:33:59and that one here is 1,788.

0:33:59 > 0:34:01Hedydd's determined to balance things out.

0:34:03 > 0:34:06- There's obviously no heating oil. - No heating costs.

0:34:06 > 0:34:08Heating oil costs us a lot at home, doesn't it?

0:34:09 > 0:34:11- Oof! Nursery costs.- Yeah.

0:34:11 > 0:34:14- So that's set.- But it's not forever. - Yeah.

0:34:14 > 0:34:16Once he can start school, it'll be gone.

0:34:16 > 0:34:20A quick calculation of the figures reveals what they'd pay

0:34:20 > 0:34:21on monthly bills.

0:34:22 > 0:34:25It costs us, to live in Australia,

0:34:25 > 0:34:28£509.59 more a month.

0:34:30 > 0:34:32- The biggest one there's the mortgage...- Yeah.

0:34:32 > 0:34:35but you're getting something out of that, so that's fine.

0:34:35 > 0:34:37Next, they look at income,

0:34:37 > 0:34:42and discovered they'd bring home almost £1,700 more per month.

0:34:42 > 0:34:45- Less hours, and you're making more money.- Making more money, so...

0:34:46 > 0:34:48..it's a win-win, really.

0:34:48 > 0:34:49Even with higher outgoings,

0:34:49 > 0:34:52the final sums show they'd be better off

0:34:52 > 0:34:56by over £1,000 every month down under.

0:34:56 > 0:34:59- I think I'm winning here.- Yeah, I'm a bit shocked with it, really.

0:34:59 > 0:35:01But, um, it's good, yeah.

0:35:01 > 0:35:04If we know we're secure financially,

0:35:04 > 0:35:06that's something we never have to worry about any more.

0:35:06 > 0:35:09Yeah, well, it's a big thing to actually come out to Australia,

0:35:09 > 0:35:11so I'm still worried about that a little bit.

0:35:11 > 0:35:12First priority,

0:35:12 > 0:35:16keep your wife happy, and everything else will fall into place.

0:35:16 > 0:35:19Yeah, maybe start with something a bit easier then.

0:35:19 > 0:35:21It's been a great result for Hedydd,

0:35:21 > 0:35:23but when it comes to the vote,

0:35:23 > 0:35:26will it be enough to keep her and Steven on the same page?

0:35:26 > 0:35:28We've looked at all the costs and the figures

0:35:28 > 0:35:30of moving out to Australia.

0:35:30 > 0:35:33And with that in mind we have now decided to vote for...

0:35:38 > 0:35:40- BOTH:- Australia!

0:35:41 > 0:35:44- Woohoo. Clean run so far.- Yeah.

0:35:44 > 0:35:46It was a bit of a shock for me to see some of those figures.

0:35:46 > 0:35:49- You were shocked, were you? - I was really shocked.- Huh.- Yeah.

0:35:53 > 0:35:56Knowing they'd thrive financially down under

0:35:56 > 0:35:58has brought Hedydd closer to the life

0:35:58 > 0:36:00she's been dreaming of for her family.

0:36:00 > 0:36:03But for husband Steven to go the distance,

0:36:03 > 0:36:06the emotional cost of a move has to be considered, too.

0:36:06 > 0:36:10The whole family sit down to watch messages from loved ones.

0:36:11 > 0:36:15- OK?- Boys, we're going to watch the friends and family videos now.

0:36:15 > 0:36:16- Shall we watch it?- Yes.

0:36:16 > 0:36:18- ALL:- 'Hi.'

0:36:18 > 0:36:21Hi, Hedydd. Hi, Steven. Hi, boys.

0:36:21 > 0:36:22- Hi, guys.- Hello.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25Hedydd and Steven, and the boys.

0:36:25 > 0:36:27- VOICE BREAKS:- We hope that you're enjoying...

0:36:27 > 0:36:29Sorry.

0:36:29 > 0:36:31Oh, she's started already?

0:36:31 > 0:36:32Hedydd's always up to something.

0:36:34 > 0:36:38Always has to be a sort of, shall we say, centre of attention?

0:36:38 > 0:36:40SHE GASPS

0:36:40 > 0:36:42- Hedydd's a nutter. - Yeah. The moment I first met her,

0:36:42 > 0:36:43I almost, like,

0:36:43 > 0:36:45turned around and walked the other way.

0:36:47 > 0:36:49- Oh, Dan!- I'd have to put up with that for the rest of my life.

0:36:49 > 0:36:51She just doesn't stop talking.

0:36:51 > 0:36:54You can't go over there for a five-minute chat, or a visit.

0:36:54 > 0:36:56It's going to be hours.

0:36:56 > 0:36:59She's funny though, she's crazy.

0:36:59 > 0:37:01Steven is the quieter one.

0:37:01 > 0:37:03- ALL:- Yeah.- Very organised,

0:37:03 > 0:37:05very good in the kitchen.

0:37:05 > 0:37:07- HEDYDD'S MUM:- The boys are just lovely.

0:37:07 > 0:37:11Leon, in particular, is very caring and looks after Eli and Seth.

0:37:13 > 0:37:17I think because he thinks he's responsible when Mum's not there.

0:37:17 > 0:37:19So he's very good.

0:37:19 > 0:37:22- HEDYDD'S SISTER:- I don't think Mum and Dad would cope

0:37:22 > 0:37:25if they moved away. Initially, I'd probably have to be here.

0:37:25 > 0:37:28I think she'd be, particularly Mum,

0:37:28 > 0:37:29would be uncontrollable.

0:37:29 > 0:37:32They want to be selfish and say, "Don't go."

0:37:32 > 0:37:35But at the same time, they also want them to have that quality of life.

0:37:35 > 0:37:38And if it has to be in Australia, then it has to be in Australia.

0:37:38 > 0:37:39Yeah.

0:37:39 > 0:37:42- HEDYDD'S DAD:- Yes, if they did go, I'd be lost for quite a while

0:37:42 > 0:37:44wondering what they're up to.

0:37:44 > 0:37:47Because we do see them every weekend.

0:37:47 > 0:37:50Whilst you can Skype and FaceTime and all this,

0:37:50 > 0:37:52it's not the same as having a cuddle and, you know, a kiss,

0:37:52 > 0:37:55and having them sit in your lap and read to them.

0:37:55 > 0:37:57And, um...

0:37:57 > 0:37:59and seeing them just grow up.

0:38:01 > 0:38:04- I think it would be difficult if they went.- It would be.

0:38:04 > 0:38:07- Yeah, that goodbye would be horrible, wouldn't it?- Yeah.

0:38:07 > 0:38:12- OTHER SISTER:- Oh, I can't even think about saying goodbye to them.- No.

0:38:12 > 0:38:13SHE EXHALES SHARPLY

0:38:14 > 0:38:17- THEY LAUGH - Don't!

0:38:17 > 0:38:18SHE EXHALES SHARPLY

0:38:18 > 0:38:20Yeah, no, be too hard.

0:38:21 > 0:38:23But they might have an amazing life out there.

0:38:23 > 0:38:26Well, if I've learned one thing,

0:38:26 > 0:38:29you've got one life,

0:38:29 > 0:38:32so just grasp it whilst you can.

0:38:33 > 0:38:35Just go for it, go for it.

0:38:35 > 0:38:36Going to miss you loads.

0:38:36 > 0:38:39It'll be great, it's an amazing opportunity.

0:38:40 > 0:38:44I hope you haven't enjoyed yourselves too much, in a way.

0:38:44 > 0:38:47I know we'll miss you, especially Katrin, yeah?

0:38:47 > 0:38:50But she's having difficulty speaking at the moment.

0:38:51 > 0:38:54We know you'll come up with the right decision...

0:38:54 > 0:38:56and, um...

0:38:56 > 0:38:57we'll see you when you come back.

0:39:03 > 0:39:06What's that like now, watching the video now

0:39:06 > 0:39:07and seeing everybody from home?

0:39:07 > 0:39:11It makes it feel a lot different, because I haven't really been

0:39:11 > 0:39:13thinking about it. But now, because I've seen that,

0:39:13 > 0:39:14it makes me feel a lot more...

0:39:14 > 0:39:16Yeah. Eli, what did you think?

0:39:18 > 0:39:20Well, because they miss us,

0:39:20 > 0:39:22I'd stay here for like...

0:39:22 > 0:39:24for like two weeks.

0:39:24 > 0:39:27- Yeah?- No.- You wouldn't want to stay here forever, though, would you?

0:39:27 > 0:39:28No?

0:39:28 > 0:39:30No? Seth, what about you?

0:39:30 > 0:39:32I want to stay fo-addo.

0:39:32 > 0:39:34You want to stay forever?

0:39:34 > 0:39:35- Yeah.- OK.

0:39:35 > 0:39:36How did you find that?

0:39:36 > 0:39:38I knew it was going to be tough,

0:39:38 > 0:39:41and most of your family don't want us to go, so...

0:39:41 > 0:39:43It makes me feel guilty.

0:39:43 > 0:39:44You know...

0:39:44 > 0:39:48my mum and dad there obviously don't want us to go.

0:39:48 > 0:39:50It wouldn't change my mind, though.

0:39:50 > 0:39:54I can't really just stay home just for them.

0:39:55 > 0:39:58You know, I feel selfish in a way, but at the same time,

0:39:58 > 0:40:00I'm thinking about what's best for us.

0:40:02 > 0:40:05So we just have to work out what's more important in the end, isn't it?

0:40:05 > 0:40:07Yeah.

0:40:14 > 0:40:16Heartfelt messages from loved ones in the UK

0:40:16 > 0:40:19haven't shaken Hedydd's resolve,

0:40:19 > 0:40:23but the reality of being so far from family and friends in Wales

0:40:23 > 0:40:26has hit home with Leon and Eli.

0:40:26 > 0:40:28As the final vote approaches,

0:40:28 > 0:40:30could their doubts about saying goodbye

0:40:30 > 0:40:33see Hedydd's Australian dream put back on ice?

0:40:37 > 0:40:40After a trial week in the country with her family,

0:40:40 > 0:40:44Australia surpassed Hedydd's expectations.

0:40:44 > 0:40:48Australia's been everything I dreamed of and hoped of

0:40:48 > 0:40:50and a little bit more.

0:40:51 > 0:40:54And she's not the only one who's enjoyed it.

0:40:54 > 0:40:58Even Leon, who's been dead set against it, has loved all of it.

0:41:00 > 0:41:03Spending time with Mum and Dad was really nice,

0:41:03 > 0:41:05and having nice weather for once.

0:41:06 > 0:41:09'The more every day goes on,

0:41:09 > 0:41:11'there's more and more pluses for coming out there.'

0:41:12 > 0:41:17Just seeing the kids happy and being able to do things outside.

0:41:17 > 0:41:18But for all his positivity,

0:41:18 > 0:41:22Steven's still finding it hard to come to a decision.

0:41:22 > 0:41:24I don't want to...

0:41:24 > 0:41:28sort of make a wrong move, and then think, "Oh, what have we done?"

0:41:29 > 0:41:33And the distance from home is playing on everyone's mind.

0:41:34 > 0:41:38Watching the friends and family video made me feel

0:41:38 > 0:41:42really sad, and it's been really up and down for me this week.

0:41:42 > 0:41:44I suppose I have to decide, at the end of it,

0:41:44 > 0:41:47what's more important to our children. Whether it's...

0:41:49 > 0:41:52..me and Steven having a better work-life balance,

0:41:52 > 0:41:54or my family are nearby.

0:41:54 > 0:41:57It's the only thing holding me back.

0:41:57 > 0:42:00This is the biggest thing we've ever had to decide as a family.

0:42:02 > 0:42:04One question looms large -

0:42:04 > 0:42:09will the family decide their destiny lies at home or away?

0:42:09 > 0:42:11We've had a lovely week in Australia,

0:42:11 > 0:42:13and we are going to vote for...

0:42:20 > 0:42:22THEY DELIVER MIXED DECISION

0:42:24 > 0:42:25Oh, you're such a copycat, Eli.

0:42:25 > 0:42:27I thought you loved it?

0:42:27 > 0:42:30I chose UK because I'll miss friends and family.

0:42:31 > 0:42:34- I changed my mind. - You changed your mind?

0:42:34 > 0:42:36- Yeah.- Yeah?

0:42:36 > 0:42:37You've chosen Australia now?

0:42:37 > 0:42:39- Yeah.- Yeah?

0:42:39 > 0:42:42- Good boy.- Yeah. Australia, then, it is?- Yeah.

0:42:42 > 0:42:44Well, I had to choose it,

0:42:44 > 0:42:47now we've actually been here and seen what there is here.

0:42:47 > 0:42:48Good job.

0:42:57 > 0:43:01Having halted Hedydd's Australian plans once before,

0:43:01 > 0:43:04it looks like Steven is finally ready

0:43:04 > 0:43:06to make his wife's dream come true.

0:43:06 > 0:43:10All they need to do now is get Leon onboard, too.

0:43:10 > 0:43:13On whichever side of the world they end up,

0:43:13 > 0:43:15we wish the Jamiesons good health

0:43:15 > 0:43:17and every happiness for their future.
