0:00:01 > 0:00:03Travelling in your twenties

0:00:03 > 0:00:07often leaves you with rose-tinted memories.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11But if you'd spent almost three decades longing to set up home in

0:00:11 > 0:00:16Australia, how would you go about making the dream your reality?

0:00:16 > 0:00:20Particularly if not everyone in your family agrees with the idea

0:00:20 > 0:00:23of moving to the other side of the world.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Martyn Williams has dreamt of living down under

0:00:27 > 0:00:32ever since a tragic accident forced him back to the UK 26 years ago.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35My plans for the rest of my life had to be put on hold.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Now over two decades later,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39he's desperate to make the country his home.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42As far as I'm concerned, really,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44it's a case of now or never.

0:00:44 > 0:00:48A trial week in Adelaide is Martyn's chance to get the whole family on

0:00:48 > 0:00:51- board for a move.- I am actually thinking about whether a move to

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Australia is the right choice for us.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55But when things don't go QUITE to plan...

0:00:55 > 0:00:59I don't like it. It's kind of dull, it's small.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02..will the life he longs for be over before it begins?

0:01:02 > 0:01:05It's heartbreaking, really, to know that the dream may now be dead.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Famed for its stunning landscape,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33pristine beaches and laid-back lifestyle,

0:01:33 > 0:01:37Australia has been the number one choice for Brits seeking a new start

0:01:37 > 0:01:39abroad for over two decades.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41But not everyone makes it work.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Around half of those making the move return home,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46their hopes of a new life dashed.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51Martyn Williams has dreamt of setting up home in Australia

0:01:51 > 0:01:54ever since a car crash cut short a trip there

0:01:54 > 0:01:56when he was in his twenties.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Now, well into his forties,

0:01:58 > 0:02:02he's desperate to make the move before it's too late.

0:02:02 > 0:02:06But while older son Josh is excited about the possibility,

0:02:06 > 0:02:10he still needs to convince wife Leona and their two younger children

0:02:10 > 0:02:15that the country really is where their future lies.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19Will a trial week down under divide or unite the family,

0:02:19 > 0:02:24when they see what life could be like on the other side of the world?

0:02:28 > 0:02:32The journey has taken the Williams family 10,000 miles from home

0:02:32 > 0:02:34and, after 23 hours in the air,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37they've finally touched down in Adelaide.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40It was a long journey. Managed to get a little bit of a sleep

0:02:40 > 0:02:42- on the plane. - The journey went quite well.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Really tired. We're all smiling still, so...!

0:02:46 > 0:02:51Martyn is delighted to be back in a country he left over 20 years ago.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53It feels good to be back in Australia again.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56I never, ever thought that I would actually manage to get back here.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59The children share his enthusiasm.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01I'm really excited about the week ahead.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03I can't wait to see what Adelaide has to offer.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06I'm really excited to see what's out here,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09cos my dad has always dreamt about coming here.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13But the time travelling has left Leona contemplating the distance from home.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16While I was on the journey, I was actually thinking about my mum.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19And gosh, it really is a long way away.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Martyn knows the coming days will be crucial if he's to persuade his

0:03:22 > 0:03:24family to make the move.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26If, at the end of the whole week,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28the whole family aren't convinced about coming,

0:03:28 > 0:03:32I think for me, the dream is then going to be over,

0:03:32 > 0:03:35and I'm going to be spending the rest of my life in the UK.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42Back in the UK, the Williams live in Ipswich in Suffolk.

0:03:42 > 0:03:44They're dad Martyn, mum Leona,

0:03:44 > 0:03:48Josh, who's 15, 11-year-old Henry and Lily,

0:03:48 > 0:03:49who's eight.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52The family have a great life in England,

0:03:52 > 0:03:54but Martyn would give it up in a heartbeat

0:03:54 > 0:03:56to move to the other side of the world.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59It's something I really wanted to do.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02When he headed down under on a year's working visa in his twenties,

0:04:02 > 0:04:05it was with the intention of making the move permanently.

0:04:06 > 0:04:11It was the plan to live in Australia and make a life for myself.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14Just five weeks into the trip, however,

0:04:14 > 0:04:17disaster struck when the camper van Martyn was travelling in

0:04:17 > 0:04:21went out of control, leaving him seriously injured.

0:04:21 > 0:04:22I broke my back.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25I was left in hospital in Australia for two months,

0:04:25 > 0:04:27where it became clear that the trip

0:04:27 > 0:04:29was going to be cut short.

0:04:29 > 0:04:30His dream shattered,

0:04:30 > 0:04:34Martyn was left with no option but to return home to the UK.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37This was obviously devastating to me at the time.

0:04:37 > 0:04:42My plans for the rest of my life then had to be put on hold.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44Over a quarter of a century later, though,

0:04:44 > 0:04:49Martyn is fighting fit and the Australian dream still going strong.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52Martyn talks to me about Australia at least once a fortnight.

0:04:52 > 0:04:57If it was his choice and I said yes, I know he'd go there like a shot.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59I've never forgotten the dream.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01It's always been there at the back of my mind.

0:05:02 > 0:05:06Talk of emigrating has split the family down the middle.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Whilst oldest son Josh shares his dad's enthusiasm...

0:05:09 > 0:05:11He's got my adventurous side.

0:05:11 > 0:05:15Going to the beach all the time, the weather,

0:05:15 > 0:05:17it seems like a wonderful place to be.

0:05:17 > 0:05:21Me and Dad are definitely two of the main people that want to go.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25..mum Leona and the younger children, Henry and Lily,

0:05:25 > 0:05:28are less agreeable about moving.

0:05:28 > 0:05:30I've always had excuses not to go

0:05:30 > 0:05:32and we've got a great life here.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34We've got fantastic jobs,

0:05:34 > 0:05:39- a lovely home.- It's family, because my nan, my grandad, my grandma,

0:05:39 > 0:05:42my grandad, they're such a huge part of our lives.

0:05:44 > 0:05:49I do want to go because I really want to see all the animals.

0:05:49 > 0:05:54I don't want to go there because I'll miss my whole family and stuff.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58Martyn is aware of the risks involved in the move,

0:05:58 > 0:06:01but worn out by a hectic lifestyle in the UK,

0:06:01 > 0:06:05he's convinced Australia could offer him the family time he's missing.

0:06:05 > 0:06:09I'm up at 6:00 and I'm not home until 7:30pm.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13I just don't have the time to spend with the children that I want to.

0:06:13 > 0:06:17Henry's always on at me to play cricket with him in the garden.

0:06:17 > 0:06:21To be able to do that with him would mean so much to me.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25Putting everyone on the same page could prove easier said than done,

0:06:25 > 0:06:28- though.- I think Leona, Henry and Lily,

0:06:28 > 0:06:30are going to need some serious convincing.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32Starting a whole new life again, it would just be...

0:06:33 > 0:06:35..us five as a family.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38I'm also worried about relocating the children.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40I'm very happy with the schools they're at.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43Leona also fears Martyn's distant memories

0:06:43 > 0:06:46may not stand the test of time.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48He hasn't been back for over 20 years now.

0:06:48 > 0:06:53So, will he find it different to how he felt when he was single,

0:06:53 > 0:06:55without a family?

0:06:55 > 0:06:58But her biggest concern is the thought of saying goodbye

0:06:58 > 0:06:59to her beloved mum.

0:06:59 > 0:07:03We're very close, we see each other every day.

0:07:03 > 0:07:07I can't imagine life without my mum, living thousands of miles away.

0:07:08 > 0:07:12Ironically, though, after 26 years talking about it,

0:07:12 > 0:07:15Leona's mum has now given her daughter her blessing

0:07:15 > 0:07:17to pursue the life Martyn dreams of.

0:07:17 > 0:07:20Leona's mum has given her the partial green light

0:07:20 > 0:07:23to possibly think about a move out to Australia.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25If you really do want to do it,

0:07:25 > 0:07:27and you actually went over there and found out you loved it,

0:07:27 > 0:07:30I couldn't bear to stand in your way.

0:07:30 > 0:07:32But despite his mother-in-law's blessing,

0:07:32 > 0:07:37Martyn knows the decision to emigrate will be far from easy for Leona.

0:07:37 > 0:07:42I know there's going to be a lot of heartache along the way and that

0:07:42 > 0:07:44everything has got to be right.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47The family now face just one week to see if the country

0:07:47 > 0:07:51Martyn hankers after will live up to his expectations

0:07:51 > 0:07:54and prove to be somewhere the whole family can call home.

0:07:54 > 0:07:56I'm 48 years of age now.

0:07:57 > 0:08:01As far as I'm concerned, really, it's a case of now or never.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04Here's to a good night, everyone.

0:08:04 > 0:08:06- ALL:- Cheers!

0:08:06 > 0:08:09If I get to the end of the week in Australia,

0:08:09 > 0:08:13and the family decided that they don't want to move to Australia,

0:08:13 > 0:08:17I'm going to be gutted that my dream of 26 years...

0:08:18 > 0:08:19..is over.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29The Williams are spending their trial week in Adelaide,

0:08:29 > 0:08:31capital of South Australia.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34With almost 20 miles of sun-soaked beaches,

0:08:34 > 0:08:38it's a firm favourite with Brits seeking a fresh start down under.

0:08:39 > 0:08:43Their base is in Hackney, just five minutes' drive from the city centre.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46Will this three-bedroom detached property

0:08:46 > 0:08:49meet the Williams' expectations?

0:08:49 > 0:08:51- Nice high ceilings.- Yeah.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54But it's not the perfect home from home for Henry.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57The kitchen area's a bit small.

0:08:57 > 0:08:59And Lily's underwhelmed, too.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02Do you like this room, Lily?

0:09:02 > 0:09:03- Yeah.- Yes?

0:09:03 > 0:09:05She's not so keen on that.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09Fortunately, for Martyn, the garden puts them in better form.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11I like this. Work out! Whee!

0:09:12 > 0:09:14But, as the family settle in,

0:09:14 > 0:09:18it's soon clear Leona's not sold on her new surroundings.

0:09:18 > 0:09:20Do we see ourselves living here?

0:09:20 > 0:09:21- No.- Standing in this kitchen now,

0:09:21 > 0:09:23we're thousands of miles away from home,

0:09:23 > 0:09:26I don't see any improvement over here.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28It's not a great start for Martyn,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31but he's staying positive that things can only get better

0:09:31 > 0:09:33in the days ahead.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35Let's just hope the sun comes out

0:09:35 > 0:09:38and then we can see what the rest of the week's got to offer us.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49Back in the UK, the Williams family live in a modern,

0:09:49 > 0:09:53detached four-bedroom home in Ipswich, 15 miles from Suffolk.

0:09:53 > 0:09:55This is actually our dream house.

0:09:55 > 0:10:00It took a lot of hard work to get this house to where we are today.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02Our life was on hold, apart from building this house at the time.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04Every weekend, coming down here.

0:10:04 > 0:10:06- Evenings.- Evenings.

0:10:06 > 0:10:09If they decide to move, their budget

0:10:09 > 0:10:12for a house down under is £850,000.

0:10:12 > 0:10:14So what kind of home are they after?

0:10:14 > 0:10:17Very modern, sleek lines.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19Big windows. Close to the beach.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22- So, if we could move this house, it would be ideal.- Yeah.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25And the dream house in Australia?

0:10:25 > 0:10:27- A pool.- Cinema room.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30Big garage. A stable for Lily's horse.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Despite being the one pushing for the move,

0:10:33 > 0:10:37Martyn admits the property would be a deal-breaker for his family.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40If we couldn't find what we wanted out in Australia,

0:10:40 > 0:10:43- it would end the dream, I think, really, for us, wouldn't it?- Mm.

0:10:43 > 0:10:47To find out what kind of house they could have in Australia,

0:10:47 > 0:10:50we'll show the family three properties,

0:10:50 > 0:10:54two on budget and a third which could be their dream home.

0:10:54 > 0:10:58Only after they've seen each one will they discover its value.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01The Williams' property search begins in Kingston Park,

0:11:01 > 0:11:02a small beach-side suburb

0:11:02 > 0:11:06half an hour's drive from Adelaide city centre.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09The weather isn't in Martyn's favour, but will this modern,

0:11:09 > 0:11:12four-bedroom home win the family over?

0:11:12 > 0:11:15Right down by the sea. This looks lovely.

0:11:15 > 0:11:17- Is that it?- It looks really nice, doesn't it?

0:11:17 > 0:11:20- It looks beautiful, doesn't it? - It's lovely. It's really modern.

0:11:20 > 0:11:21Exactly what we're looking for.

0:11:21 > 0:11:22Close to the beach.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25First impressions are good.

0:11:25 > 0:11:27Will inside get the thumbs up, too?

0:11:27 > 0:11:29Oh! That's nice.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31That's so cool.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33- This is giving me a bit of a wow factor.- Yeah!

0:11:33 > 0:11:35Leona likes what she sees, too.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38This is definitely the style we're looking for, isn't it?

0:11:38 > 0:11:40The modern. Lots of windows.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43And Josh is feeling right at home.

0:11:43 > 0:11:45It's just like our house back in England, but...

0:11:45 > 0:11:48- With a nicer view. - Yeah, with a nicer view!

0:11:48 > 0:11:50And hopefully some nicer weather.

0:11:50 > 0:11:52Can you see yourself living here?

0:11:52 > 0:11:54- Mm-hm!- Yeah.

0:11:54 > 0:11:59Even in the bad weather, everyone can see the benefits of the balcony.

0:11:59 > 0:12:01- It's lovely out here, everyone. - Whoa!

0:12:01 > 0:12:03Even better with the sun.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05Look at the sea view from here!

0:12:07 > 0:12:10- Cut one of them trees down, it would make it even better!- Yeah!

0:12:11 > 0:12:15Back inside, the master bedroom gets a positive reaction.

0:12:16 > 0:12:17Whoa!

0:12:17 > 0:12:20- Nice, isn't it?- It's lovely and light.

0:12:20 > 0:12:22This is ideal for us.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24With the dressing room as well, it's perfect.

0:12:24 > 0:12:26- It's lovely.- Very nice.

0:12:27 > 0:12:29But, more importantly...

0:12:29 > 0:12:32- There's enough room for your shoes there, Leona.- Is there?- Just about.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34- This is huge.- That's really nice, isn't it?- This is lovely.

0:12:34 > 0:12:38This is like our dressing room at home, but a lot bigger.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40And there's more.

0:12:40 > 0:12:42So, what have we got through here then? Let's have a look.

0:12:44 > 0:12:45Oh, whoa!

0:12:45 > 0:12:47It's a walk-in shower.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49- That is...- So cool!

0:12:49 > 0:12:51The modern wet room is a hit

0:12:51 > 0:12:54and Lily's found something SHE likes, too.

0:12:55 > 0:12:56- This is my bedroom.- Is it?

0:12:57 > 0:13:00- You like this bedroom?- Yeah.

0:13:00 > 0:13:03- Look! You've got a dressing room, Lily.- Let's see. Ooh.

0:13:03 > 0:13:07But the boys aren't so taken with their potential rooms.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09It's a bit smaller than the one back at home.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11You'd have to keep it tidier, then!

0:13:11 > 0:13:15Another en-suite soon cheers Henry up, though.

0:13:15 > 0:13:16- This is lovely.- That's so cool.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19This one is actually even bigger than the ones back at home.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21You two will be fighting for this one now.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24We are lucky to have en-suite bathrooms back at home.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27It would be really cool to have them here as well.

0:13:27 > 0:13:29The interiors of this property

0:13:29 > 0:13:31have gone down well, but the exterior isn't

0:13:31 > 0:13:33quite hitting the spot.

0:13:33 > 0:13:37The garden doesn't give you that wow factor really, does it?

0:13:37 > 0:13:40And there's one important feature missing for Josh.

0:13:40 > 0:13:45It doesn't have the swimming pool, which was crucial in our criteria.

0:13:45 > 0:13:49It might not be quite perfect, but the family are still curious to see

0:13:49 > 0:13:55whether their £850,000 budget could afford them a house like this.

0:13:55 > 0:13:57Everything looks as if it's been done to a real high quality.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00- Yeah. Everything we're looking for really, isn't it?- I think so.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03- Apart from a swimming pool. - Apart from a swimming pool.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05So, I think, we're over budget on this one.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08I think it's £950,000.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10- And I'll go for 890,000. - Will you?

0:14:20 > 0:14:22- Whoa! - No way!

0:14:22 > 0:14:23That's under budget.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25- Wow!- Wow!

0:14:25 > 0:14:27That's £50,000 under budget

0:14:27 > 0:14:29and Josh has an idea.

0:14:29 > 0:14:31That 50,000 extra...

0:14:31 > 0:14:34- Get a swimming pool. - Get a swimming pool!

0:14:34 > 0:14:37With such a positive start to their property hunt,

0:14:37 > 0:14:40the family may be coming round to Martyn's way of thinking.

0:14:40 > 0:14:44And there are still two properties left to view.

0:14:44 > 0:14:47The next is in Crafers, a leafy suburb in the Adelaide Hills,

0:14:47 > 0:14:5020 minutes' drive from the city centre.

0:14:50 > 0:14:52It's lovely round here, isn't it?

0:14:52 > 0:14:55It would obviously look better in the sunshine.

0:14:55 > 0:14:59Will this four-bedroom house have the wow factor for the whole family?

0:14:59 > 0:15:01- That's lovely, isn't it?- Yes.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04Really beautiful. Beautiful surroundings.

0:15:04 > 0:15:05Before even reaching the front door,

0:15:05 > 0:15:09the children spot something to get excited about.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11- Whoa!- Swimming pool!

0:15:11 > 0:15:12Sweet!

0:15:14 > 0:15:16It's a great start.

0:15:16 > 0:15:20- Oh, this is nice.- And first impressions indoors are good, too.

0:15:20 > 0:15:22It's lovely here. Nice and open plan.

0:15:22 > 0:15:24Look at the views!

0:15:24 > 0:15:27But Lily has another kind of viewing on her mind.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30- Mum, where's the television?- What do you need a television for with a

0:15:30 > 0:15:33- swimming pool like that?- There's too much going on out there, Lily,

0:15:33 > 0:15:35- to look at a television.- Whoa!

0:15:35 > 0:15:37The main living area is a hit with everyone.

0:15:37 > 0:15:42- Computers and...- A lovely, big, open space.

0:15:42 > 0:15:43A big television.

0:15:43 > 0:15:47- Yep.- I like the log burner.- I know. - That's nice.- That could be your job.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49You could go out there and chop some wood up for me.

0:15:49 > 0:15:51That should keep Josh busy!

0:15:51 > 0:15:53Next, the master bedroom.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55Will it meet expectations?

0:15:55 > 0:15:57This would be the ideal bedroom.

0:15:57 > 0:16:01- Most definitely. It's bigger than what we've got at home.- Yeah.

0:16:01 > 0:16:04The walk-in wardrobe has plenty of shoe space for Leona.

0:16:05 > 0:16:07I think I'll fill a couple of them shelves up.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10And the en-suite's perfect for two.

0:16:10 > 0:16:12- Look, it's a double shower.- Oh, wow!

0:16:12 > 0:16:16- I've never seen one like that before.- A double sink.

0:16:16 > 0:16:20But, once again, the boys aren't blown away by their bedrooms.

0:16:20 > 0:16:23- Children's room.- Not too sure on this.- No?- No.

0:16:23 > 0:16:26It's a lot smaller than the ones back at home.

0:16:26 > 0:16:30- I don't like it.- You don't like it? - No. It's kind of dull, it's small.

0:16:30 > 0:16:32The house has received mixed reactions,

0:16:32 > 0:16:36- but will it be within the family's budget?- A house like this

0:16:36 > 0:16:39could tempt me to move across from the other side of the world,

0:16:39 > 0:16:42but I do think it's going to be over budget.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45I think it's going to be around the £900,000 mark.

0:16:45 > 0:16:47I think it's definitely going to be in our budget.

0:16:47 > 0:16:49I think it's going to be around 850,000.

0:16:49 > 0:16:52- Do you?- To me, it just doesn't feel...

0:16:52 > 0:16:53100%.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56I think, yeah, going to be over budget as well

0:16:56 > 0:16:58and I think it's going to be about £890,000.

0:17:08 > 0:17:11Go on, then, Josh. Let's see what the price is for this one, shall we?

0:17:11 > 0:17:12Ooh!

0:17:13 > 0:17:15THEY GASP

0:17:16 > 0:17:20That's £164,000 under budget.

0:17:20 > 0:17:22- I can't believe that.- No way!

0:17:22 > 0:17:25- Crumbs.- You just would not get that at home, would you?

0:17:25 > 0:17:27No. That IS surprising.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30- A nice surprise, though. - Yes.

0:17:35 > 0:17:38It's another step in the right direction for Martyn's vision of moving.

0:17:38 > 0:17:42Hopefully, the chance to view what we think could be their dream home

0:17:42 > 0:17:44will help seal the deal.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46It's in the suburb of Myrtle Bank,

0:17:46 > 0:17:50just 15 minutes' drive to the city and 20 minutes' drive to the beach.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53Fingers crossed the rain doesn't dampen their spirits.

0:17:53 > 0:17:56I have a feeling it's going to be very old-fashioned.

0:17:56 > 0:17:58I'm not sure about this at the moment.

0:17:58 > 0:18:02- No.- First impressions don't sound good,

0:18:02 > 0:18:04but appearances can be deceptive.

0:18:05 > 0:18:09- Whoa!- It's a bit different to what I was expecting.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12- Spacious.- It looks very spacious, doesn't it?

0:18:12 > 0:18:15It's a lot bigger than I thought it would be.

0:18:15 > 0:18:18The open-plan living area hits the spot for Martyn.

0:18:18 > 0:18:20Oh, gosh!

0:18:20 > 0:18:22- Whoa!- Look at this. That is amazing.

0:18:22 > 0:18:23This is really nice.

0:18:23 > 0:18:27- Oh!- This has certainly shocked me from looking at it from the outside.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29It's nice to have everything...

0:18:29 > 0:18:32- you know, all together.- Yeah.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35The kitchen provides some welcome surprises.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38- Lights!- This is cool.

0:18:38 > 0:18:41And the outside space ticks all the boxes.

0:18:41 > 0:18:42- Look at this!- Wow!

0:18:44 > 0:18:46That's what you call a barbecue.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48Wow! That is so cool.

0:18:48 > 0:18:50We've got everything we need here.

0:18:50 > 0:18:51We've got the decking.

0:18:51 > 0:18:54A nice big table.

0:18:54 > 0:18:56- Barbecue.- Pool.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58- Swimming pool.- For friends.

0:18:58 > 0:18:59Garden for football as well.

0:18:59 > 0:19:03The perfect entertaining space, really, isn't it?

0:19:03 > 0:19:06This garden has got everything that you'd...

0:19:06 > 0:19:09Every box you wanted to tick possible.

0:19:09 > 0:19:10Henry's impressed.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12I really do like this.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14Really brings out the wow factor.

0:19:16 > 0:19:18Hello!

0:19:18 > 0:19:21Things continue on a positive note back inside.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26Wow! Gosh, that's lovely, isn't it?

0:19:26 > 0:19:28Wow!

0:19:28 > 0:19:30- This is lovely.- I really like this room.

0:19:30 > 0:19:32- It's everything we'd want. - Yeah, you do?

0:19:32 > 0:19:34Oh, this is the...dressing room!

0:19:34 > 0:19:36- That's huge.- This is enormous.

0:19:36 > 0:19:38That is enormous, isn't it?

0:19:38 > 0:19:41- It's really nice.- This is way bigger than the one you've got back home.

0:19:41 > 0:19:45Yes. So, the walk-in wardrobe is the dream walk-in wardrobe, isn't it?

0:19:45 > 0:19:48And the family bathroom gets a thumbs-up from Josh.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50I think it is a good compromise.

0:19:50 > 0:19:51A very nice bathroom.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54- So, you'd be happy with this, would you?- I'd be happy.- Yeah.

0:19:55 > 0:19:57So, good news all round.

0:19:57 > 0:20:00Despite first impressions, the family love this property.

0:20:00 > 0:20:02It's everything we wanted.

0:20:02 > 0:20:04The open living space.

0:20:04 > 0:20:09- The outdoor living.- That's what we envisaged for Australia.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12But, with £850,000 to spend,

0:20:12 > 0:20:15will it be affordable?

0:20:15 > 0:20:17- I think it could be slightly over budget.- Yeah.

0:20:17 > 0:20:21I think I'm going to go for £865,000.

0:20:21 > 0:20:24OK. I think it's over budget again.

0:20:24 > 0:20:26I'm going to go 875.

0:20:31 > 0:20:32Turn it over and see.

0:20:35 > 0:20:36- Wow!- No way!

0:20:36 > 0:20:40That's just £7,000 above their budget.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43So, slightly above budget, but doable.

0:20:43 > 0:20:46- Close enough.- That's really exciting that we could get all of this -

0:20:46 > 0:20:48everything we want,

0:20:48 > 0:20:49for that price.

0:20:49 > 0:20:53It's been a positive day on the Williams' property hunt.

0:20:53 > 0:20:55While they like the space the first house offered,

0:20:55 > 0:20:58the lack of pool put the family off.

0:20:58 > 0:21:01House number two came in bottom of their budget

0:21:01 > 0:21:03and had the all-important swimming pool,

0:21:03 > 0:21:06but wasn't enough to charm Martyn or Josh.

0:21:07 > 0:21:09Just £7,000 over budget,

0:21:09 > 0:21:13the final property proved to be the dream home with its open-plan living

0:21:13 > 0:21:14and outdoor space.

0:21:16 > 0:21:18So, when it comes to homes in Australia,

0:21:18 > 0:21:21how will the family cast their vote?

0:21:21 > 0:21:25Based on the three properties we have seen today, our vote goes to...

0:21:35 > 0:21:37- MARTYN:- Undecided! - OTHERS: Australia!

0:21:39 > 0:21:41- Undecided?- Yeah.

0:21:41 > 0:21:45- Why?- There were certain bits about each house I saw today that I wasn't

0:21:45 > 0:21:49- quite happy about.- But all the houses were on budget, or...

0:21:49 > 0:21:51It's got to feel right for me

0:21:51 > 0:21:54- to leave the house we've got in England.- Yeah.

0:21:54 > 0:21:58I felt all the houses had something to offer more than the UK.

0:21:58 > 0:22:03- Yeah.- I voted for Australia because the houses I saw were in budget,

0:22:03 > 0:22:04and...they're amazing.

0:22:04 > 0:22:06They're the dream houses.

0:22:06 > 0:22:08Swimming pools, the barbecue.

0:22:08 > 0:22:12I think they're as good, if not better, than the UK.

0:22:19 > 0:22:23With Leona and the children won over by Australian property, ironically,

0:22:23 > 0:22:26it's now Martyn who's questioning the move.

0:22:26 > 0:22:29Hopefully a day exploring work options in Australia

0:22:29 > 0:22:31will be enough to put his dream back on track.

0:22:34 > 0:22:38In the UK, Martyn works as an insurance broker.

0:22:38 > 0:22:41I enjoy working within the insurance industry.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44I'm an audit analyst and I review audit reports from cover holders

0:22:44 > 0:22:46throughout the world.

0:22:46 > 0:22:49But a long commute to London leaves him exhausted

0:22:49 > 0:22:51and with little family time.

0:22:51 > 0:22:55I'm up at 6:00 every single morning to travel to the train station

0:22:55 > 0:22:58and don't get home until 7:30pm every night.

0:22:58 > 0:23:02This is very tiring and impacts totally on my family life.

0:23:02 > 0:23:05While Martyn would like a similar role in Australia,

0:23:05 > 0:23:08he hopes to make some changes.

0:23:08 > 0:23:12I would like a shorter commute to have a better work-life balance.

0:23:12 > 0:23:15In the UK, Leona is a tax accountant,

0:23:15 > 0:23:17a position she's very much settled in.

0:23:18 > 0:23:19I really love my job in the UK.

0:23:19 > 0:23:23I've worked for the same company for 19 years now.

0:23:23 > 0:23:27My hours are quite good compared to Martyn's.

0:23:27 > 0:23:31It's about a 40-hour week and I do manage to work one day from home,

0:23:31 > 0:23:34so it's quite flexible.

0:23:34 > 0:23:38She has some major concerns about starting over down under.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41I've worked really hard in the UK to get where I am,

0:23:41 > 0:23:43so it's got to be the right job for me

0:23:43 > 0:23:45to convince me to go to Australia.

0:23:47 > 0:23:49While the children are looked after by a childminder,

0:23:49 > 0:23:53the couple head out to explore job opportunities for them in Adelaide.

0:23:53 > 0:23:58Martyn really needs good news today if his dream move to Australia is to

0:23:58 > 0:24:00become a reality.

0:24:00 > 0:24:03It's a pretty nerve-racking time at the moment to see whether I could

0:24:03 > 0:24:07secure the job I need to move the family to Australia.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10We've arranged for Martyn to meet up with Andrew Creaser,

0:24:10 > 0:24:14managing partner at a financial planning company in Adelaide.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17Having read Martyn's CV,

0:24:17 > 0:24:21Andrew begins the meeting with some unsettling news.

0:24:21 > 0:24:24The role that you're doing in the UK is going to be very difficult

0:24:24 > 0:24:26to find an equivalent here in Australia.

0:24:26 > 0:24:30It's not a good start, but Andrew is quick to point out Martyn has plenty

0:24:30 > 0:24:32of transferable skills.

0:24:32 > 0:24:34There are other sectors in Adelaide

0:24:34 > 0:24:36that could benefit from your auditing skills,

0:24:36 > 0:24:38with a little bit of training.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41What sort of opportunities would possibly be available to myself?

0:24:41 > 0:24:44There's really two avenues I'd recommend for you.

0:24:44 > 0:24:46One is the account management track

0:24:46 > 0:24:49and the other would be risk and compliance auditing.

0:24:49 > 0:24:53Both roles do sound interesting and appealing to me.

0:24:53 > 0:24:57I've had reasonably positive feedback that there'd be positions available.

0:24:57 > 0:25:00That's more promising for Martyn.

0:25:00 > 0:25:01Meanwhile, across town,

0:25:01 > 0:25:05Leona meets up with recruitment specialist Graham Copson.

0:25:05 > 0:25:07Would you like to come this way?

0:25:07 > 0:25:09As the main visa applicant,

0:25:09 > 0:25:13Leona is currently studying to become a fully qualified accountant in the UK.

0:25:13 > 0:25:16She wants to find out if she'd need to complete her studies before

0:25:16 > 0:25:19being recognised as an accountant down under.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23As a tax accountant, you would need a degree.

0:25:23 > 0:25:25However, the good news is,

0:25:25 > 0:25:29we could actually use your skills and your experience

0:25:29 > 0:25:31- to actually find a job for you.- OK.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34Working in the accounting industry,

0:25:34 > 0:25:37financial services industry,

0:25:37 > 0:25:40possibly becoming a financial analyst.

0:25:41 > 0:25:44So, lots of options for Leona to think about.

0:25:44 > 0:25:46Back at Martyn's meeting,

0:25:46 > 0:25:51he's keen to hear if his potential salary for a new position would live up to what he earns in the UK.

0:25:51 > 0:25:55Both roles start in the £50,000 territory.

0:25:55 > 0:25:57If you were successful and were able to be promoted,

0:25:57 > 0:25:59it wouldn't be unreasonable to think

0:25:59 > 0:26:03that you could move towards the 80 or £90,000 territory.

0:26:04 > 0:26:06Things are looking up for Martyn.

0:26:06 > 0:26:08But for a move to work out,

0:26:08 > 0:26:11Leona needs good news on the salary front too.

0:26:11 > 0:26:14Working as a part-qualified accountant,

0:26:14 > 0:26:19I would probably expect you to start on round about £35,000 a year.

0:26:19 > 0:26:23That's £10,000 less than she earns in the UK -

0:26:23 > 0:26:26not what she was hoping to hear.

0:26:26 > 0:26:29Overall, I was disappointed with the news I received.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32If I can't earn the same sort of money as I do in the UK,

0:26:32 > 0:26:35then I really would not want to move to Australia.

0:26:35 > 0:26:39When the couple reunite, it's clear Leona's not happy.

0:26:39 > 0:26:42My day didn't go too great today.

0:26:42 > 0:26:46I do need to get the qualifications and once I've obtained that,

0:26:46 > 0:26:48I'd probably be looking at

0:26:48 > 0:26:52the salary I'm currently getting in the UK, but for now,

0:26:52 > 0:26:55the salary would be a lot lower than what I'm getting.

0:26:55 > 0:26:57- Not good news.- No.

0:26:57 > 0:26:59So, how did your meeting go today?

0:26:59 > 0:27:02I'm really happy with the figures that I was given at the end of the day.

0:27:02 > 0:27:07The salary would be comparable to what I earn in the UK.

0:27:07 > 0:27:09The day has given Martyn hope,

0:27:09 > 0:27:12but how will the couple's combined news on the job front influence

0:27:12 > 0:27:16their choice between work in Australia and the UK?

0:27:16 > 0:27:19Based on the work opportunities we've looked at today,

0:27:19 > 0:27:21our vote goes to...

0:27:29 > 0:27:30- Australia. - UK!

0:27:30 > 0:27:32- Australia? - Yeah.

0:27:33 > 0:27:38Well, although my role wouldn't be transferable to Australia,

0:27:38 > 0:27:40with the jobs that we discussed,

0:27:40 > 0:27:44I just felt it would be a good move for me personally

0:27:44 > 0:27:47and hopefully for the family, as well.

0:27:47 > 0:27:52It all feels up in the air for myself that I need to retrain.

0:27:52 > 0:27:57Obviously it's disappointing that you voted for the UK, but I can

0:27:57 > 0:28:00totally understand why you did.

0:28:01 > 0:28:04- We both voted differently again. - Yes, that's right.

0:28:09 > 0:28:11After years dreaming of being back,

0:28:11 > 0:28:16the past few days have given Martyn plenty to think about.

0:28:16 > 0:28:19So, will a day exploring the Australian lifestyle

0:28:19 > 0:28:23he first fell for in his 20s prove a winner with the whole family?

0:28:26 > 0:28:30Making the most of their time together and the better weather,

0:28:30 > 0:28:32the family head for an adventure park in West Beach,

0:28:32 > 0:28:3520 minutes' drive from the city.

0:28:35 > 0:28:40With 26-metre-high aerial crossings and a bungee trampoline on offer,

0:28:40 > 0:28:43it's the perfect place for the whole family to burn off some energy.

0:28:43 > 0:28:46- How are you feeling? A little bit nervous?- No, not really.

0:28:46 > 0:28:48- How are YOU feeling? - Can't wait.

0:28:48 > 0:28:51But not everyone is feeling confident.

0:28:51 > 0:28:52Really scared now, yes.

0:28:52 > 0:28:54Oh, gosh!

0:28:54 > 0:28:56After the required safety briefing,

0:28:56 > 0:28:59the family head for the dizzy heights of the high ropes.

0:29:15 > 0:29:20At 18 metres in the air, will Leona be brave enough to take the plunge?

0:29:20 > 0:29:22- Go on, Leona! - Go on, Mum!

0:29:25 > 0:29:26Oh! Oh, my gosh!

0:29:26 > 0:29:29Oh, my gosh!

0:29:29 > 0:29:31SHE SHRIEKS, THEY LAUGH

0:29:32 > 0:29:33Well done!

0:29:35 > 0:29:37After an adrenaline-filled morning,

0:29:37 > 0:29:40the family head for some relaxation on the beach.

0:29:40 > 0:29:42- It's lovely down here, isn't it? - Mm-hm.

0:29:44 > 0:29:46Really, really enjoyed today.

0:29:46 > 0:29:47The kids have had so much fun.

0:29:47 > 0:29:50It's very rare that we can go out in the UK as a family.

0:29:51 > 0:29:56For Martyn, it's a chance to reflect on why he wants to pursue his dream

0:29:56 > 0:30:01- so badly.- I think coming down to the beach on a day like this now is

0:30:01 > 0:30:04basically what it's all about for me.

0:30:04 > 0:30:08It's just the sort of lifestyle that I want for my family.

0:30:08 > 0:30:11I think today has convinced me that

0:30:11 > 0:30:15what I'm trying to do for my family IS the right move.

0:30:15 > 0:30:19And Leona's happy the children have enjoyed each other's company.

0:30:19 > 0:30:21They usually play individually or with their friends.

0:30:21 > 0:30:26They were actually playing together today and it's so lovely to see.

0:30:26 > 0:30:29The day's also reinforced Josh's faith in his dad's dream.

0:30:29 > 0:30:32It's nice to spend time with the family when the sun's out.

0:30:32 > 0:30:35Definitely today, it's made me feel even more enthusiastic about moving

0:30:35 > 0:30:40- over to Australia.- Even Henry and Lily can see more potential.

0:30:40 > 0:30:42I've definitely enjoyed today.

0:30:42 > 0:30:44The high ropes was absolutely amazing.

0:30:44 > 0:30:47In Australia, there's so many things to do.

0:30:47 > 0:30:51Today, it feels like Australia's a really nice place now.

0:30:51 > 0:30:54And with the sun finally out,

0:30:54 > 0:30:58Leona's warming to the idea of life in the southern hemisphere, too.

0:30:58 > 0:31:01It really makes a difference because this is what you call the outdoor

0:31:01 > 0:31:04living. I couldn't see it at the beginning of the week.

0:31:04 > 0:31:06It was raining, windy, cold.

0:31:06 > 0:31:08I am actually thinking about whether

0:31:08 > 0:31:11a move to Australia is the right choice for us.

0:31:11 > 0:31:14The Williams' future is still far from certain, but when it

0:31:14 > 0:31:18comes to lifestyle, will the family opt for home or away?

0:31:30 > 0:31:32TOGETHER: Australia!

0:31:32 > 0:31:34Lily? You went UK?

0:31:34 > 0:31:36I'll miss my family

0:31:36 > 0:31:41and my friends. So, I don't want to leave the UK.

0:31:41 > 0:31:44Making Lily a mermaid and doing things together, it's been great.

0:31:44 > 0:31:48Seeing what outdoor living is like, and it's fantastic.

0:31:58 > 0:32:01With almost a clean sweep for the Aussie lifestyle,

0:32:01 > 0:32:04Martyn's dream is looking back on course.

0:32:04 > 0:32:06But for life down under to become a reality,

0:32:06 > 0:32:09the figures will have to add up.

0:32:09 > 0:32:13Getting the right price for their UK home could be make or break.

0:32:13 > 0:32:17The family think their house is worth £850,000.

0:32:17 > 0:32:19We sent two local estate agents around

0:32:19 > 0:32:22to give their professional valuations.

0:32:24 > 0:32:26Wow, this is an impressive entrance hall.

0:32:26 > 0:32:28Plenty of natural light.

0:32:28 > 0:32:31The balcony there going on to the first floor.

0:32:31 > 0:32:35A fantastic open living space here.

0:32:35 > 0:32:39Brilliant marbled worktops, a brilliant snug area to the back.

0:32:39 > 0:32:42Oh, here we have the home gymnasium.

0:32:43 > 0:32:45Yes, it's got all the equipment here.

0:32:45 > 0:32:47This is our room.

0:32:47 > 0:32:49Fantastic-sized master bedroom.

0:32:49 > 0:32:53Shower en suite with twin basins, very contemporary.

0:32:53 > 0:32:55Oh, this must be the young boy's bedroom.

0:32:55 > 0:32:57Obviously a fan of rugby.

0:32:57 > 0:32:59In today's market,

0:32:59 > 0:33:02I would value this house for £800,000

0:33:02 > 0:33:04but for a quick sale,

0:33:04 > 0:33:05we'd recommend putting it

0:33:05 > 0:33:09on the market for £750,000.

0:33:09 > 0:33:11I knew it would be under.

0:33:11 > 0:33:13In today's market, I'd value

0:33:13 > 0:33:16this property at £800,000.

0:33:16 > 0:33:17If we were looking for a quick sale,

0:33:17 > 0:33:21we'd put it on the market at £750,000.

0:33:21 > 0:33:23I think our house is quite individual

0:33:23 > 0:33:26and I think people will pay to have a new house.

0:33:26 > 0:33:29- A lot lower than we thought though, isn't it? - It is lower than we thought.

0:33:29 > 0:33:31Obviously if we did make the move to Australia,

0:33:31 > 0:33:33it would give us a little bit less

0:33:33 > 0:33:35money to buy a house with when we were here,

0:33:35 > 0:33:39but we'd obviously have to take that into consideration.

0:33:41 > 0:33:42While the children relax,

0:33:42 > 0:33:46the couple move on to consider the real price of living down under.

0:33:46 > 0:33:50We've provided Martyn and Leona with a cost of living comparison to help

0:33:50 > 0:33:54them work out if they could afford to live in Australia.

0:33:54 > 0:33:56First up, the weekly grocery shop.

0:33:56 > 0:34:00Washing tablets, £3.50 in the UK

0:34:00 > 0:34:02and £9.65 in Australia.

0:34:02 > 0:34:05Gosh, that's a real big difference, isn't it?

0:34:05 > 0:34:06£6.15 more expensive.

0:34:06 > 0:34:08We use a lot of that with the children, don't we?

0:34:08 > 0:34:10So, chicken breasts.

0:34:10 > 0:34:12£4 in the UK

0:34:12 > 0:34:14and £3.44 in Australia,

0:34:14 > 0:34:16so that's a saving of 56p.

0:34:16 > 0:34:18We use quite a lot of chicken breasts, don't we,

0:34:18 > 0:34:20so that's good that it's cheaper here.

0:34:20 > 0:34:22That's good, that's definitely good.

0:34:22 > 0:34:26Pork chops, they are £3.50 in the UK

0:34:26 > 0:34:29and £8.72 in Australia.

0:34:29 > 0:34:32- Gosh!- So, it looks like we'll be on a chicken diet!

0:34:35 > 0:34:39That's £27.78 more expensive in Australia.

0:34:39 > 0:34:41OK.

0:34:41 > 0:34:43The food bill might not break the bank,

0:34:43 > 0:34:46but they still need to consider the bigger monthly bills.

0:34:46 > 0:34:49First up, the mortgage.

0:34:49 > 0:34:52Basing calculations on the dream property they viewed,

0:34:52 > 0:34:54it's not a good start.

0:34:54 > 0:34:59Our mortgage in the UK is £1,438.

0:34:59 > 0:35:02In Australia it would be £1,953.

0:35:02 > 0:35:04That's quite a difference.

0:35:04 > 0:35:07- £500.- Over £500 difference.

0:35:07 > 0:35:12- That's obviously a worry. - Electricity, £125 in the UK...

0:35:13 > 0:35:18..and it's £125 in Australia, so that's no difference.

0:35:20 > 0:35:22When the couple add up all their outgoings,

0:35:22 > 0:35:24they discover they'd be...

0:35:24 > 0:35:30£299.12 worse off per month in Australia.

0:35:31 > 0:35:34- A big difference. - That's a big difference, yeah.

0:35:34 > 0:35:36It's not good news, no.

0:35:36 > 0:35:39Martyn's dream could be hanging in the balance.

0:35:39 > 0:35:44With their joint income set to decrease by £14,000 every year,

0:35:44 > 0:35:49and their outgoings set to increase, the figures aren't stacking up.

0:35:49 > 0:35:53We would be £586.12 a month worse off.

0:35:53 > 0:35:57That's around £7,000 in the red every year down under,

0:35:57 > 0:36:00and it's sobering news for Leona.

0:36:00 > 0:36:02Looking at it in black and white...

0:36:04 > 0:36:06- ..really makes me quite worried. - Yeah.

0:36:07 > 0:36:09As the couple prepare to vote,

0:36:09 > 0:36:11it looks like the financial facts

0:36:11 > 0:36:15could put the life Martyn desperately wants just out of reach.

0:36:15 > 0:36:17Our vote goes to...

0:36:28 > 0:36:29BOTH: UK.

0:36:29 > 0:36:31£600 a month worse off...

0:36:32 > 0:36:36You know, it's a big shock and it's a big disappointment for me, really.

0:36:36 > 0:36:39We've come over here for a better life, not a worse life.

0:36:39 > 0:36:43It's heartbreaking really, to know that after all this time of wanting

0:36:43 > 0:36:46to come back to Australia, the dream may now be dead.

0:36:52 > 0:36:55With the realisation they'd be out of pocket,

0:36:55 > 0:36:59things aren't looking promising for Martyn's hope of a move down under.

0:36:59 > 0:37:02And with Leona's strong emotional ties to home,

0:37:02 > 0:37:06Martyn knows he now faces another potential hurdle.

0:37:07 > 0:37:10The family prepares to watch messages from friends and family.

0:37:11 > 0:37:13Hello, everybody.

0:37:13 > 0:37:16Hope you're having a lovely time.

0:37:16 > 0:37:18Hi, everyone, missing you!

0:37:18 > 0:37:20Hi, guys, missing you loads.

0:37:20 > 0:37:22- Hi!- What-oh there, maggots!

0:37:23 > 0:37:26I love Martyn loads.

0:37:26 > 0:37:30He makes me laugh and he always has done, yes.

0:37:30 > 0:37:32Leona is very much like my sister

0:37:32 > 0:37:34because we've grown up together

0:37:34 > 0:37:37since we were this high.

0:37:37 > 0:37:40I just love her, absolutely love her to bits.

0:37:40 > 0:37:43She's my companion, she's my friend.

0:37:43 > 0:37:48She's a really lovely daughter and she's so considerate, and...

0:37:49 > 0:37:53What more can I say? I love her so much.

0:37:53 > 0:37:58I can understand why they want to live in Australia, but for me,

0:37:58 > 0:38:00it was gut-wrenching.

0:38:00 > 0:38:02I'm devastated that they're going to go.

0:38:02 > 0:38:06If they did go, I would miss them tremendously.

0:38:07 > 0:38:12I would feel as if I was losing half my family.

0:38:12 > 0:38:14If they go and do move to Australia...

0:38:15 > 0:38:19my life wouldn't be the same any more without them. Totally.

0:38:19 > 0:38:21I would dreadfully miss them

0:38:21 > 0:38:24as much as I'd miss one of my own family going.

0:38:26 > 0:38:30I think my role now is to make sure they're happy

0:38:30 > 0:38:33and if that's what they need to do,

0:38:33 > 0:38:36then I'm happy for them and I genuinely mean that.

0:38:36 > 0:38:40Whatever your decision is, I will accept.

0:38:40 > 0:38:43Lots and lots of love from Grandma and Grandad.

0:38:43 > 0:38:45I'm pleading you not to go.

0:38:45 > 0:38:47I know it's going to be a better lifestyle,

0:38:47 > 0:38:49but for me and your mum and the rest of the family,

0:38:49 > 0:38:53we'd be absolutely devastated if you did go and I don't know what I'd do

0:38:53 > 0:38:57if you went to Australia. I'd miss you so much.

0:38:57 > 0:39:01I know you're about to make a decision, but you know me,

0:39:01 > 0:39:02and I'm telling you now,

0:39:02 > 0:39:07you make the decision that's the right decision for your family and I

0:39:07 > 0:39:11will see you, so do what you think is best for you and the children.

0:39:11 > 0:39:13Love you, bye.

0:39:16 > 0:39:19- Did you like seeing them?- Some nice messages from them, weren't there?

0:39:19 > 0:39:21- Mm.- I think it does complicate things now.

0:39:23 > 0:39:25Didn't really think about how much we mean to them

0:39:25 > 0:39:28and it definitely makes my decision harder

0:39:28 > 0:39:33whether moving over here is 100% the right decision for all of us.

0:39:33 > 0:39:39- Yeah.- I think it's definitely difficult to watch because seeing them again

0:39:39 > 0:39:42and knowing that if we do move...

0:39:43 > 0:39:47- ..that...- Mm.- You realise how much you're going to miss them?

0:39:48 > 0:39:49Yeah.

0:39:53 > 0:39:58Messages from loved ones are always a poignant reminder of how far

0:39:58 > 0:40:03Australia is from home so as their final decision approaches,

0:40:03 > 0:40:07will the Williams' be led by their head or their hearts as they choose

0:40:07 > 0:40:11between their life in the UK or a new one down under?

0:40:13 > 0:40:16When the family arrived in Adelaide a week ago,

0:40:16 > 0:40:19Martyn was hopeful they could call the country home and he hasn't been

0:40:19 > 0:40:21disappointed by his experience.

0:40:23 > 0:40:27The day out that we had was brilliant and you know, it...

0:40:28 > 0:40:31..reiterated to me how great Australia could be

0:40:31 > 0:40:34for the outdoor life we've been craving and looking for.

0:40:34 > 0:40:38The week has provided Leona with lots of food for thought.

0:40:38 > 0:40:40This week has been a roller-coaster.

0:40:40 > 0:40:43Yesterday I felt torn because we had such a fantastic day and I thought,

0:40:43 > 0:40:47yes, this would be the lifestyle that I would like to lead.

0:40:47 > 0:40:50Josh and Henry have had a ball, too.

0:40:50 > 0:40:52For me, this week has been really enjoyable. I've had a lot of fun

0:40:52 > 0:40:55doing some really great activities and spending time with the family.

0:40:55 > 0:40:57It's been a great experience.

0:40:57 > 0:41:01But watching messages from loved ones has left the whole family

0:41:01 > 0:41:04thinking about what they'd be leaving behind.

0:41:04 > 0:41:08It just brings home how far away they are and how much they love us.

0:41:08 > 0:41:11Leaving family behind, it's such a hard decision to make.

0:41:11 > 0:41:18If I do stay here, I'd leave behind my family, my friends and all that.

0:41:18 > 0:41:22Everyone's feeling the pressure of such a mammoth decision.

0:41:22 > 0:41:25At the moment, I do not know what I'm going to vote.

0:41:25 > 0:41:27I've changed my mind many times.

0:41:27 > 0:41:30It's really important to get this right.

0:41:30 > 0:41:34And for Martyn, after 26 years spent dreaming of a move down under,

0:41:34 > 0:41:37it all hinges on one final moment.

0:41:37 > 0:41:39Although I've been driving this dream for years,

0:41:39 > 0:41:42I have to make sure that it's what I want

0:41:42 > 0:41:45and also what the family wants, as well.

0:41:47 > 0:41:50Based on our experiences in Adelaide this week, our vote goes to...

0:42:04 > 0:42:06- UK!- Australia!- Undecided!

0:42:06 > 0:42:08So, Martyn, you voted for the UK?

0:42:08 > 0:42:11I think, for me, it was the reality check,

0:42:11 > 0:42:16realising that my parents would be on the other side of the world

0:42:16 > 0:42:17and...

0:42:19 > 0:42:23..I might not see them again, and that sort of hit home for me.

0:42:23 > 0:42:25I wanted everything to be right.

0:42:25 > 0:42:29It upsets me to think that you're a little bit upset,

0:42:29 > 0:42:32the fact that your dream's over.

0:42:32 > 0:42:35I chose the UK because I've got all my family and friends there.

0:42:35 > 0:42:39I voted for Australia, because I think it has a lot more to offer than back in the UK.

0:42:39 > 0:42:42I just think it would be a better lifestyle over here.

0:42:42 > 0:42:44I think I'm going to be the mum in a few years' time saying,

0:42:44 > 0:42:46"Please don't go, Josh, to Australia!"

0:42:47 > 0:42:50I think you'll all agree that we've had an amazing week this week.

0:42:50 > 0:42:54I think now it's time to head back to the UK.

0:42:54 > 0:42:57Yeah. Group hug!

0:42:59 > 0:43:02- Come here. - Group hug.

0:43:02 > 0:43:08Their week down under has enabled Martyn to experience Australia with

0:43:08 > 0:43:12his whole family and wherever they go on to call home,

0:43:12 > 0:43:16we wish the Williams health, wealth and happiness.
