0:00:02 > 0:00:04If escaping the British climate

0:00:04 > 0:00:07could dramatically improve your health,

0:00:07 > 0:00:09you'd hardly think twice about leaving.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12But when your partner's worked hard to build a life for your family in

0:00:12 > 0:00:16the UK, how do you persuade them

0:00:16 > 0:00:18it's worth risking everything to move to a

0:00:18 > 0:00:23country you've never even been to, on the other side of the world?

0:00:23 > 0:00:27Two near-death experiences have cheated Nazeem Mungur of the life

0:00:27 > 0:00:31- he once knew.- He can no longer work, he no longer drives.

0:00:31 > 0:00:35Most days it's the same four walls, day in, day out.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Missing out on family life,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40he's convinced relocating down under could help him become the dad he's

0:00:40 > 0:00:42desperate to be.

0:00:42 > 0:00:47The dream for me is that we'll move out to Australia and I'll get

0:00:47 > 0:00:48substantially better.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51While a trial week in the country does work wonders...

0:00:51 > 0:00:53It's a complete different change for him,

0:00:53 > 0:00:56because in the UK all he does is be in the house.

0:00:56 > 0:01:00..will the financial cost of a move mean the dream's over before it's begun?

0:01:00 > 0:01:02That's quite a big shock.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04Not happy.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Not happy at all.

0:01:28 > 0:01:32Home to no fewer than 200 nationalities,

0:01:32 > 0:01:36Australia boasts a vibrant multicultural society.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39And with the promise of an easy-going outdoor lifestyle,

0:01:39 > 0:01:43it's no wonder the country remains an irresistible pull for

0:01:43 > 0:01:46Brits seeking a better life down under.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Not everyone stays for good, however.

0:01:49 > 0:01:53Almost half of those who emigrate end up returning home.

0:01:53 > 0:01:58A horrific car crash eight years ago left Nazeem Mungur a shadow of the

0:01:58 > 0:02:02parent and partner he wants to be.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Now, despite never having been,

0:02:04 > 0:02:09he believes that Australia's warmer climate could turn his life around.

0:02:09 > 0:02:13The coming week will be a chance to find out if Nazeem's grand plan is

0:02:13 > 0:02:18simply a pipe dream or if moving to the southern hemisphere really could

0:02:18 > 0:02:22give the Mungurs the normal family life they crave.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24To get from Manchester to Brisbane,

0:02:24 > 0:02:28the Mungurs have spent a gruelling 22.5 hours on a plane.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31When they finally arrive for the first time,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34the distance from the UK has hit home with Joanne.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38My biggest concern is, um, family coming to see us, my parents especially.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41They're not used to doing long-haul flights and I think, um,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43they would really struggle with it.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46The long journey's given Nazeem plenty of thinking time.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49Quite a bit apprehensive to sort of find out where we're going to be in

0:02:49 > 0:02:51the future. Hopefully,

0:02:51 > 0:02:55Australia meets all our expectations and this will be where we sort of settle down as a family.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58There's a lot hanging in the balance in the week ahead.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00It's got to massively deliver for me.

0:03:00 > 0:03:01I'm the one that needs convincing.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03- Yeah.- I want to have the nice house,

0:03:03 > 0:03:07I want to be in a nice area and I want the right job as well.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10I've worked really hard to where I've got to in the UK so far...

0:03:10 > 0:03:11It's got to deliver, definitely.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13Otherwise, I'm not going to come, at all!

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Joanne's set the bar high.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19The next seven days will have to impress, if Nazeem's to get the

0:03:19 > 0:03:22fresh start he desperately wants.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Meet the Mungur family...

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Dad Nazeem, Mum Joanne,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29five-year-old Katie and Tom, who's three.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32They live just outside Leeds in West Yorkshire.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36Nazeem and Joanne tied the knot nine years ago, but just one year later,

0:03:36 > 0:03:39their lives were thrown into turmoil.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42I was on a night shift at work and Nazeem was at home...

0:03:42 > 0:03:46And I got a phone call to say that he was in A&E because we'd had a

0:03:46 > 0:03:51- house fire.- An electrical fault had set the house ablaze with Nazeem inside.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54Talking about it now, I can feel the heat on my skin.

0:03:54 > 0:03:57Apparently, the flames were literally chasing him out of the door.

0:03:57 > 0:03:59I could have died in it.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02It was a devastating time for the couple and things were about to get

0:04:02 > 0:04:05much worse when two weeks later,

0:04:05 > 0:04:08Nazeem was involved in a near-fatal car accident.

0:04:08 > 0:04:14I was stationary at some red lights and a very large car hit me from

0:04:14 > 0:04:17behind at speed.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20Fighting for his life, Nazeem had to be cut from the car.

0:04:20 > 0:04:23When I went to A&E, he was attached to drips and monitors,

0:04:23 > 0:04:25he was on a spinal board,

0:04:25 > 0:04:28there was loads of doctors and nurses around him...

0:04:28 > 0:04:31It was... It was really shocking to see.

0:04:31 > 0:04:33The pair struggled to comprehend their misfortune.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35How can this happen to us?

0:04:35 > 0:04:40We've just lost our house and I potentially have lost my ability to walk,

0:04:40 > 0:04:42it was that... That serious.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45It was as if our world was ending, really.

0:04:45 > 0:04:49Nazeem's injuries were life-changing, but against the odds,

0:04:49 > 0:04:53the couple began to rebuild their lives and eight years on,

0:04:53 > 0:04:55the Mungurs are a family of four.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57- What?- Do you...?

0:04:57 > 0:05:01- Yeah.- Do you not, um, have to have pink and white?

0:05:01 > 0:05:04But Nazeem still struggles with everyday living.

0:05:04 > 0:05:09Having chronic fatigue syndrome and having chronic pain, on a bad day,

0:05:09 > 0:05:16I can't make a cup of tea because I can't figure out the order to make a

0:05:16 > 0:05:18- cup of tea in.- He can no longer work.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20He no longer drives.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24Most days, it's the same four walls, day in, day out.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27Frustrated at needing constant medication,

0:05:27 > 0:05:30Nazeem fears he's missing out on family life.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33Taking more painkillers causes more fatigue,

0:05:33 > 0:05:35but if you're sleeping 18 hours a day,

0:05:35 > 0:05:37you're sleeping your whole life away.

0:05:37 > 0:05:42Having cheated death already, he's determined not to let life beat him.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44You need to move on.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47You need to achieve something past that.

0:05:47 > 0:05:48Although he's never been,

0:05:48 > 0:05:52Nazeem's now convinced moving to the other side of the world could help

0:05:52 > 0:05:54him claim back the life he wants.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58I see Australia as potentially a place where I can get better in

0:05:58 > 0:06:01myself and come off my painkillers.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04Family holidays abroad have fuelled Nazeem's belief that a life in the

0:06:04 > 0:06:07sunshine is the tonic he needs.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10When it's cold and wet in England, I get a lot more pain,

0:06:10 > 0:06:13whereas when we travel out to a warm country,

0:06:13 > 0:06:15I'm able to do and achieve a lot more

0:06:15 > 0:06:18and I get significantly less pain.

0:06:21 > 0:06:26By moving to Australia he would be able to get his life back and we'd

0:06:26 > 0:06:30be able to interact more as a family, we'd be able to do more as a family,

0:06:30 > 0:06:31so it's a huge dream for him.

0:06:31 > 0:06:36Ultimately, Nazeem's goal is to be more hands-on with Katie and Tom.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39It's really heartbreaking when the children want to play with you and

0:06:39 > 0:06:42you have to say to them, "Actually, no,

0:06:42 > 0:06:44"I can't play with you today because I'm in too much pain."

0:06:44 > 0:06:47I'd love to be able to do that.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51At the moment, it's not achievable, but in Australia, it should be.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54Nurse Joanne understands what a move could mean for them,

0:06:54 > 0:06:56but as the family's sole breadwinner,

0:06:56 > 0:06:59the decision to start again in a country they've never visited,

0:06:59 > 0:07:02can't be taken lightly.

0:07:02 > 0:07:03There's a massive amount of pressure on me.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05What if the jobs are not there?

0:07:05 > 0:07:07What if the houses are terrible?

0:07:07 > 0:07:09And I wouldn't want to give up on everything that we've achieved in

0:07:09 > 0:07:11England to...

0:07:11 > 0:07:15to move to Australia to do it, if it's not going to be there.

0:07:15 > 0:07:19She's also worried about cutting off the strong family support network

0:07:19 > 0:07:21they have in the UK.

0:07:21 > 0:07:23Can you sort me iPod out again, please?

0:07:23 > 0:07:24LAUGHTER

0:07:24 > 0:07:29We're going to be away from everybody that can potentially help us.

0:07:29 > 0:07:31Are you hungry, sweetheart?

0:07:31 > 0:07:33- Yeah.- To think that we're going to be out there,

0:07:33 > 0:07:36doing it all by ourselves, is...

0:07:36 > 0:07:37is really difficult.

0:07:37 > 0:07:41The next seven days will be the chance to find out if Nazeem's right,

0:07:41 > 0:07:45as the couple decide once and for all what side of the world their future lies.

0:07:45 > 0:07:47I think if we're not in agreement,

0:07:47 > 0:07:49somebody's going to be really disappointed.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51I'm hoping it...

0:07:51 > 0:07:53I'm hoping it's not Nazeem cos I think he's been through enough,

0:07:53 > 0:07:56but I'm not going to commit to something that's going to be worse

0:07:56 > 0:08:00- off for us as a family.- I'm pinning everything on this dream.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02For me it literally is everything.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05- It's a new chance at life. - It's a new chance at life.

0:08:12 > 0:08:14For their trial week down under,

0:08:14 > 0:08:17the Mungurs are visiting Queensland on the east coast.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19Also known as the Sunshine State,

0:08:19 > 0:08:21it should be the perfect base for Nazeem.

0:08:21 > 0:08:25The final leg of their journey takes them to the suburb of Broadbeach on

0:08:25 > 0:08:29the Gold Coast. What will they make of their first taste of Australian living?

0:08:29 > 0:08:31- Wow!- There's a lake.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34This looks very nice.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37- Wow.- Wow, this is a nice entrance hall.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40- It's huge.- Oh, it's a lot bigger than what I thought.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42It's a positive start.

0:08:42 > 0:08:44Look out the back.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47- Katie.- The house backs onto a lake.

0:08:47 > 0:08:49I think that's better than a swimming pool.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51It's nice, I like this terrace thing as well.

0:08:51 > 0:08:53Nazeem's already picturing himself at home here.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56Can you imagine having breakfast outside?

0:08:56 > 0:08:59- Breakfast every day.- Back indoors, the positivity continues.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02Wow, it is really nice.

0:09:02 > 0:09:06Look at this dining room! It's nice and open-plan, I like that.

0:09:06 > 0:09:07She's only been here a few hours,

0:09:07 > 0:09:11but it looks like Joanne could be won over easier than she thought.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14- Look at that view!- That's amazing.

0:09:14 > 0:09:16Oh, I could definitely see myself waking up every morning,

0:09:16 > 0:09:19- looking at that view.- Just what Nazeem was hoping to hear.

0:09:19 > 0:09:22If this is what homes are like, I absolutely love them.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25- Yeah.- Nice open-plan, nice big garden...

0:09:25 > 0:09:27So far, I'm feeling positive.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34Back in the UK,

0:09:34 > 0:09:37the Mungurs live in a four-bedroom detached house near Leeds.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40It's the same house which caught fire eight years ago.

0:09:40 > 0:09:44The property's been completely renovated but the memories haven't

0:09:44 > 0:09:47- gone away.- It's a lovely house, the area is lovely,

0:09:47 > 0:09:51but I've got no emotional attachment any more.

0:09:51 > 0:09:56The couple's budget for a home in Australia is £250,000.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58We want family space.

0:09:58 > 0:10:02I'd love a really, really big open-plan kitchen, dining room and lounge.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04I live in the kitchen,

0:10:04 > 0:10:06so being able to see the kids just playing with their toys...

0:10:06 > 0:10:10For me, storage is something that we desperately need.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13A nice single-storey house, where we're all on one level.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17Unfortunately, there's been about four occurrences on the stairs where

0:10:17 > 0:10:19I have fallen down the stairs.

0:10:19 > 0:10:21I think swimming pool's our dream...

0:10:21 > 0:10:26- Yeah.- ..but I think grass for the kids or some open space where they

0:10:26 > 0:10:29can just vent and let off some steam.

0:10:29 > 0:10:33A big requirement for us is obviously being within a maximum of

0:10:33 > 0:10:3645 minutes' drive to a place of work for Joanne.

0:10:36 > 0:10:40We don't want to move to Australia and we see even less of her

0:10:40 > 0:10:41than we do now.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46To give an idea of what's available on the Gold Coast property market,

0:10:46 > 0:10:49we've arranged for the couple to view three properties -

0:10:49 > 0:10:51two close to budget,

0:10:51 > 0:10:54and a third which should be everything they're looking for in a

0:10:54 > 0:10:57dream home. With the children looked after by a childminder,

0:10:57 > 0:11:00Joanne and Nazeem begin the search.

0:11:00 > 0:11:02First stop is the suburb of Ashmore.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05With plenty of schools and parks on the doorstep,

0:11:05 > 0:11:07it's a family-friendly area,

0:11:07 > 0:11:09and with a brand-new teaching hospital nearby,

0:11:09 > 0:11:13it could be the perfect spot for nurse Joanne.

0:11:13 > 0:11:17Will this spacious four-bedroom home fulfil the Mungurs' needs?

0:11:17 > 0:11:19- What do you think?- Interesting.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22Interesting, that's a nice word.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24Steps...

0:11:24 > 0:11:25With his restricted mobility,

0:11:25 > 0:11:29Nazeem could have hit a stumbling block already.

0:11:29 > 0:11:30Hang on...

0:11:30 > 0:11:35- Don't like this bit.- Let's hope things improve inside.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37Oh, this is nice.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40That's more like it, but...

0:11:40 > 0:11:43It's really dark.

0:11:43 > 0:11:46Feels really small. I like the wooden floor, that's nice.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48Well, that's something.

0:11:48 > 0:11:49It just feels a bit claustrophobic.

0:11:49 > 0:11:51Yeah, quite hemmed in.

0:11:51 > 0:11:56- Yeah.- Feeling closed in is the last thing Nazeem needs and things go

0:11:56 > 0:12:01- from bad to worse.- Oh, that kitchen's horrendous.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Yeah, the kitchen is quite hideous.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06We couldn't live in a kitchen like that.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08The family bathroom perks Joanne up.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10Oh, I like this.

0:12:10 > 0:12:14- It's a bathroom.- No, it's nice, it's clean, it's modern.

0:12:14 > 0:12:15Nazeem's not convinced, though.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17It's only a half-size bath in here,

0:12:17 > 0:12:20it would be better if it was a single cubicle for me to get in and

0:12:20 > 0:12:23- out of.- But I think this is the family bathroom, so...

0:12:23 > 0:12:26Fingers crossed for an en-suite.

0:12:26 > 0:12:29Things look promising in the bedrooms.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31Wow, this is nice.

0:12:31 > 0:12:33Now all that foliage has gone from outside,

0:12:33 > 0:12:35it's actually really bright in here.

0:12:35 > 0:12:36Really, really bright.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39- It's got the storage space they want.- You've got the wardrobes,

0:12:39 > 0:12:42you just literally need the bed and it's getting better and better as we

0:12:42 > 0:12:43go towards this end.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46The master bedroom's modern and spacious.

0:12:46 > 0:12:47Wow.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51- This is amazing.- Oh, I love this.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54Walk-in wardrobe, that's what you want.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57That's my dream. Yeah, I think I could fill this!

0:12:57 > 0:13:00And Nazeem's happier with the shower.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02That's really good access for me.

0:13:02 > 0:13:06- Mm. It's what we need.- The room leads directly to an outdoor area.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09Wow, it's nice.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12We've got a hot tub - excellent - and look at the garden patio,

0:13:12 > 0:13:15- it's amazing.- Unfortunately, though,

0:13:15 > 0:13:19it's not long before Nazeem's energy takes a dive.

0:13:19 > 0:13:20- Quite dizzy.- All right, OK.

0:13:20 > 0:13:25It's a reminder of why this move could be so important for him.

0:13:25 > 0:13:26Right, get your bearings.

0:13:26 > 0:13:29Rallying around, Nazeem's impressed with the garden.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32- Looks amazing.- Absolutely, no, I can't...

0:13:32 > 0:13:34I'm overwhelmed. Well, the kids would love it as well.

0:13:34 > 0:13:37It's not a swimming pool, but it's halfway there.

0:13:37 > 0:13:42- Yeah.- Although access would have to be rethought.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45- We could obviously move it and then ramp it over that way.- Yeah.

0:13:45 > 0:13:49Despite earlier misgivings, the couple have warmed to this property.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53As I've gone through the house, it seems really, really nice.

0:13:53 > 0:13:56I like it. The master bedroom's amazing.

0:13:56 > 0:13:58I could definitely see myself there.

0:13:58 > 0:14:00The kitchen is the biggest letdown for me.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02- Yeah.- I was expecting a bit bigger.

0:14:02 > 0:14:05For me, this room, I'd probably redesign completely.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08- That's a lot of work, though, isn't it?- It's a lot of work.

0:14:08 > 0:14:11So, with £250,000 to spend,

0:14:11 > 0:14:14is it somewhere they could afford to call home?

0:14:14 > 0:14:16So how much do you think it is, then?

0:14:16 > 0:14:18Um, I think I'll go with...

0:14:18 > 0:14:20Probably 235?

0:14:20 > 0:14:22I think it's going to be a bit higher than that,

0:14:22 > 0:14:26so I think it's probably like towards the top-end of our budget,

0:14:26 > 0:14:27about 245, 250.

0:14:33 > 0:14:36- Shall we have a look, then?- Yeah.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40- Wow.- Whoa!

0:14:40 > 0:14:43That's £65,000 over budget.

0:14:43 > 0:14:44Well over our budget.

0:14:44 > 0:14:48I'm really disappointed, I thought that would be worth a lot less than that.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50For the work that needs doing on the house to meet our needs,

0:14:50 > 0:14:52I don't think it's worth it.

0:14:52 > 0:14:54It's a disappointing start.

0:14:54 > 0:14:57Hopefully, the next place will be more affordable.

0:14:57 > 0:14:59It's situated in Nerang.

0:14:59 > 0:15:02Just 30 minutes from Surfers Paradise and close to the motorway

0:15:02 > 0:15:06for access to Brisbane, the suburb is popular with young families.

0:15:06 > 0:15:10Will this modern three-bedroom property be the Mungurs' idea of a

0:15:10 > 0:15:13- perfect Aussie home?- You wouldn't want to come down this in the snow.

0:15:13 > 0:15:15I don't...

0:15:15 > 0:15:18Thankfully, we don't have that here.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20That is a really steep driveway.

0:15:20 > 0:15:22A thumbs up for the area, though.

0:15:22 > 0:15:24It seems a really quiet street, really nice, yeah.

0:15:24 > 0:15:27- I love it already.- Bit concerned about the driveway,

0:15:27 > 0:15:30- but I'm sure if we got a railing in there, that'd be fine.- Yeah.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32This is nice.

0:15:32 > 0:15:33It's open-plan.

0:15:33 > 0:15:37- It's really light.- It's airy, there's a nice outside feel about the house.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40- Yeah, that's what we want.- Yeah. - First impressions are good and the

0:15:40 > 0:15:42kitchen's more suited to their needs.

0:15:42 > 0:15:44I've got the work space, that's what you need,

0:15:44 > 0:15:46and I'm also in the lounge with the kids.

0:15:46 > 0:15:49- It's so much better than the last house.- Yeah, yeah.

0:15:49 > 0:15:52And this kitchen, I mean, it's handmade, it's amazing.

0:15:52 > 0:15:54But Joanne's not as enthusiastic about the bedrooms.

0:15:54 > 0:15:56Again, a bit small.

0:15:56 > 0:15:57- Yeah.- It's a bit dark.

0:15:57 > 0:16:01Some trimming on the trees and that'll let the light straight in.

0:16:01 > 0:16:06Nazeem's staying positive and spotting a fitted wardrobe wins Joanne over.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09Whoa! This is nice. This is bigger than I thought.

0:16:09 > 0:16:11No, yeah, goes all the way to the back, so...

0:16:11 > 0:16:14You wouldn't need a bed in this room and the kids can have loads of

0:16:14 > 0:16:17- play room.- The master bedroom leads to a difference of opinion.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19I love the red walls in this room.

0:16:19 > 0:16:23Oh, I hate them. It's a nice room, it's a nice size...

0:16:23 > 0:16:25- Yeah.- Needs a bit of decoration.

0:16:25 > 0:16:27Oh, that's nice as well.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29- Yeah.- A nice big walk-in wardrobe.

0:16:29 > 0:16:31You've got loads of extra room now.

0:16:31 > 0:16:33Yeah, it's obviously not as impressive as the last house,

0:16:33 > 0:16:35but it's a good size.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37At the end of the day, it's a bedroom.

0:16:37 > 0:16:40The en-suite's got an unusual layout.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43Ooh, I like this! Goes all the way through.

0:16:43 > 0:16:47So it's like part en-suite, part family bath.

0:16:47 > 0:16:51Elsewhere, Joanne and Nazeem find a room with plenty of potential.

0:16:51 > 0:16:53It's a bit of an odd shape!

0:16:53 > 0:16:55Oh, this is like a... Another bedroom.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58Oh, this could be like when our family come to visit.

0:16:58 > 0:17:01- Yeah.- It's perfect for them, isn't it? It just needs a bit of a freshen up.

0:17:01 > 0:17:05An undercover entertaining area could be ideal for guests as well.

0:17:05 > 0:17:06Wow, this is nice.

0:17:06 > 0:17:08It's like an extra room.

0:17:08 > 0:17:11The garden falls short on space for Katie and Tom.

0:17:11 > 0:17:15- It's quite small.- There isn't as much running around space.

0:17:15 > 0:17:18But this property is full of surprises.

0:17:18 > 0:17:21Oh, wow!

0:17:21 > 0:17:22I'm in love with this house.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25I think that this makes up...

0:17:25 > 0:17:26for definitely not having a garden.

0:17:26 > 0:17:28- Yeah.- Look at that.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30That's an amazing pool.

0:17:30 > 0:17:32- Perfect.- Kids will be very happy with that.

0:17:32 > 0:17:36- Yeah.- And it's not just the children who would benefit from a pool.

0:17:36 > 0:17:38It'd help strengthen my back muscles up.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41One thing we want from Australia is a healthy outside lifestyle and

0:17:41 > 0:17:43- this-this gives us this.- Yeah.

0:17:43 > 0:17:46This has exceeded expectations, definitely.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48It's exactly what we're looking for.

0:17:48 > 0:17:52- Yeah.- This property may help convince Joanne to move halfway around the world,

0:17:52 > 0:17:57but is it somewhere they can afford on their £250,000 budget?

0:17:57 > 0:18:00I think I'm going to go for 350.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03So I'm going to say...

0:18:03 > 0:18:05270.

0:18:16 > 0:18:18BOTH: Wow!

0:18:18 > 0:18:21That's £10,000 under budget.

0:18:21 > 0:18:23I was well over!

0:18:23 > 0:18:26I'm really surprised at the price, but it's actually...

0:18:26 > 0:18:27It's a really, really nice surprise.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29I think I'd be ready to move tomorrow.

0:18:29 > 0:18:34- Yeah.- Things are going well for Nazeem and there's still one house to see.

0:18:34 > 0:18:35It's in Maudsland.

0:18:35 > 0:18:39This suburb has the country-living feel the family are after and good

0:18:39 > 0:18:43transport links make it accessible for commuting.

0:18:43 > 0:18:47We believe this modern three-bedroom family home could be the dream house,

0:18:47 > 0:18:51but will it have the wow factor for Nazeem and Joanne?

0:18:51 > 0:18:54Here it is on the right. Wow, it looks really nice.

0:18:54 > 0:18:56Wow. I love the street as well.

0:18:56 > 0:18:59- It's nice and quiet.- It looks like a really... Yeah.

0:18:59 > 0:19:01The positivity continues inside.

0:19:01 > 0:19:03Wow, this looks nice.

0:19:03 > 0:19:05I love this entrance hall.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08I like the door as well. It's nice.

0:19:08 > 0:19:11- This is amazing.- It's a lovely kitchen.

0:19:11 > 0:19:13I love it, it's really nice and open-plan.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16I can see myself cooking here, I can see myself watching the kids play.

0:19:16 > 0:19:18It's just perfect for me.

0:19:18 > 0:19:20I really, really, really like it.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22It's a house ready to move into.

0:19:22 > 0:19:24Yeah. I want to move now.

0:19:24 > 0:19:27- Yeah.- The outside area's a winner too.

0:19:27 > 0:19:31- Wow.- I can see ourselves here cooking on a barbecue outside.

0:19:31 > 0:19:33I can see YOU cooking on the barbecue outside.

0:19:33 > 0:19:35- Yeah.- The kitchen's my domain, the barbecue's your domain.

0:19:35 > 0:19:38The alfresco feel is just what they're looking for.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41Standing here, we can see everything inside...

0:19:41 > 0:19:43- Yeah.- ..and everything outside, it's just...

0:19:43 > 0:19:44It's just absolutely beautiful.

0:19:44 > 0:19:47And the huge garage inspires them both.

0:19:47 > 0:19:50Wow. This is a really good space.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52Can easily turn it into a kids' playroom.

0:19:52 > 0:19:54Or another room. Definitely another room.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57Moving on, the upbeat mood continues.

0:19:57 > 0:19:59Wow.

0:19:59 > 0:20:01- Oh...- This is impressive. - I like this.

0:20:01 > 0:20:03It's just so modern, it's so new.

0:20:03 > 0:20:05- Yeah.- And it's a wet room as well.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07Yeah. Especially having kids around.

0:20:07 > 0:20:11- Yeah.- The master bedroom's got all the space they need.

0:20:11 > 0:20:14- Ooh!- Wow.- This is impressive.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17But the proximity to the road could present a problem.

0:20:17 > 0:20:20There's a truck just gone past, so...

0:20:20 > 0:20:23Working night shift, it's really important to have a cool,

0:20:23 > 0:20:28quiet bedroom away from the road, and it is a little bit noisy.

0:20:28 > 0:20:31But moving outside, their spirits soon soar.

0:20:31 > 0:20:32BOTH: Wow.

0:20:34 > 0:20:36That is beautiful.

0:20:37 > 0:20:40The large garden offers plenty of room for the children to play and a

0:20:40 > 0:20:42pool's the icing on the cake.

0:20:43 > 0:20:45This is the best outside space we've had.

0:20:45 > 0:20:47And it's flat, it's all on one surface for you.

0:20:47 > 0:20:49so you can get around really easily.

0:20:49 > 0:20:51- Yeah.- We've got no adaptations that we need to make.

0:20:51 > 0:20:53So you can just walk straight in.

0:20:53 > 0:20:56Yeah. I think us and the kids would be really happy here.

0:20:56 > 0:20:58Yeah.

0:20:58 > 0:21:00It's the dream house.

0:21:00 > 0:21:04All Joanne and Nazeem need to know now is how much it would cost.

0:21:04 > 0:21:07Their budget is £250,000.

0:21:07 > 0:21:10So, how much do you think it's worth, then?

0:21:10 > 0:21:14I think it might be sort of top-end or higher than what our budget is.

0:21:14 > 0:21:17I'm afraid to look, cos I just like it too much.

0:21:18 > 0:21:20Um... I'm genuinely really, really nervous about this one.

0:21:20 > 0:21:23- Yeah.- Cos I think this is our house.

0:21:23 > 0:21:27I think I'd probably go in again at 350.

0:21:27 > 0:21:29I think it's probably about 300, 310.

0:21:37 > 0:21:38Let's do it.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48It's £13,000 over budget, but...

0:21:48 > 0:21:49Whoa!

0:21:49 > 0:21:53- That's impressive.- It genuinely feels, like, achievable, it's...

0:21:53 > 0:21:54It's within reaching distance.

0:21:54 > 0:21:56Looks like Joanne's won over.

0:21:56 > 0:21:59I mean, this is moving me towards Australia, definitely.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01It's so much for our money.

0:22:01 > 0:22:04- It's unbelievable.- You think this is definitely sort of for us?

0:22:04 > 0:22:05Definitely.

0:22:05 > 0:22:10Their day exploring Gold Coast properties has given Joanne and

0:22:10 > 0:22:14Nazeem a real insight into what their money might buy in Australia.

0:22:14 > 0:22:16Property number one's outdoor spa hit the spot,

0:22:16 > 0:22:20but indoors was on the gloomy side, and so was the price.

0:22:20 > 0:22:25The second house was perfect for outdoor living and at £10,000 under budget,

0:22:25 > 0:22:28the couple felt it could be a home from home.

0:22:28 > 0:22:32But the third property was the dream house and although over budget,

0:22:32 > 0:22:35could be worth stretching the purse strings for.

0:22:35 > 0:22:40So when it comes to homes down under, will it be the UK or Australia?

0:22:40 > 0:22:44Based on the properties we've seen today, we've decided to vote for...

0:22:53 > 0:22:54- Australia.- Australia.

0:22:56 > 0:22:59This house, it's just perfect, it really is perfect.

0:22:59 > 0:23:01I think it's going to be amazing for us here.

0:23:01 > 0:23:04We can see we can get a lot better houses for our money out here than

0:23:04 > 0:23:08we can in the UK, so I think this is definitely the place for us.

0:23:08 > 0:23:12And just sat out here, I just feel so happy, just sat in this garden.

0:23:18 > 0:23:22Discovering a house that could help improve Nazeem's life is all

0:23:22 > 0:23:24very well, but as the sole earner,

0:23:24 > 0:23:28Joanne knows the pressure's now on her to get a job with a

0:23:28 > 0:23:31decent salary if they're ever to afford it.

0:23:31 > 0:23:35Back home, she's a sister in an intensive care unit in Leeds.

0:23:35 > 0:23:37It's a job she's passionate about.

0:23:37 > 0:23:38I absolutely adore my job.

0:23:38 > 0:23:40Seeing that appreciation in, like,

0:23:40 > 0:23:43a relative's face or a patient's face, to say we've actually done a

0:23:43 > 0:23:46good job there and we've actually helped them through a difficult situation,

0:23:46 > 0:23:48it is really rewarding.

0:23:48 > 0:23:51But working long shifts means little time for family.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54It is a fine juggling act. I'm stressed a lot of the time.

0:23:54 > 0:23:56I feel like I've missed out on loads.

0:23:56 > 0:23:57Despite the hours,

0:23:57 > 0:24:02finding similar work in Australia will be key if Joanne's ever to agree to

0:24:02 > 0:24:05- a move.- I've worked really hard to get to the position where I'm at.

0:24:05 > 0:24:08I want to continue to learn in my job, I don't want to be stuck in a rut,

0:24:08 > 0:24:10I want to try new things.

0:24:10 > 0:24:13With just one wage coming in, she's got a lot on her plate.

0:24:13 > 0:24:16I've got to go out and make the money because Nazeem can't.

0:24:16 > 0:24:19The job needs to be there, we want to be able to have a nice and a good

0:24:19 > 0:24:22lifestyle, I don't want to be skimping and saving,

0:24:22 > 0:24:24I want to actually enjoy my life out there.

0:24:24 > 0:24:28And if we can't do that, there's no real point leaving.

0:24:28 > 0:24:31As Joanne sets out to explore what the future might hold work-wise in

0:24:31 > 0:24:35Australia, Nazeem's only too aware of what's at stake.

0:24:35 > 0:24:38Today's extremely important for the move because if she can't find a job

0:24:38 > 0:24:41that she's happy in, then that's the end of the move.

0:24:41 > 0:24:45We've arranged for Joanne to visit the Gold Coast University Hospital.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48She's met by director of nursing, Paul Nieuwenhoven.

0:24:48 > 0:24:50- Hi.- Hi, Jo. Good to meet you, I'm Paul.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53It'll be a pleasure to show you around this facility.

0:24:53 > 0:24:57Paul's happy to give Joanne a tour, starting with the education suite.

0:24:57 > 0:25:01We do some training from neo-natal right through to adults,

0:25:01 > 0:25:04including trauma, so it's a fantastic facility for both students

0:25:04 > 0:25:06and our staff alike, so...

0:25:06 > 0:25:08Wow, it seems a really good space, absolutely.

0:25:08 > 0:25:10She's impressed straight away.

0:25:10 > 0:25:12In the UK, we don't have this type of environment,

0:25:12 > 0:25:14we learn from work-based learning,

0:25:14 > 0:25:17so this is a fantastic opportunity to gain further skills and knowledge in.

0:25:17 > 0:25:21Paul introduces Liz, a fellow intensive care nurse.

0:25:21 > 0:25:22- Hi, I'm Jo.- Hey, Jo. I'm Liz.

0:25:22 > 0:25:25So we've had a lot of trauma so far this morning, um...

0:25:25 > 0:25:27- OK.- Helicopters, you know...

0:25:27 > 0:25:29- Yeah.- Our last helicopter was last night.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31- It is a busy, busy place. - I work in quite an old hospital,

0:25:31 > 0:25:34so it doesn't have all these modern facilities.

0:25:34 > 0:25:36- Mm.- In fact, that's what is really exciting for me,

0:25:36 > 0:25:38that's the kind of work environment I want, so...

0:25:38 > 0:25:40- Yeah, yeah.- Wow.- This seems to fit with what I need.

0:25:40 > 0:25:42- Yeah.- So far, so good.

0:25:42 > 0:25:44That's us back towards ICU. That's a tearoom.

0:25:44 > 0:25:48So this is what, um, a typical ICU room looks like in the pod.

0:25:48 > 0:25:51Impressed, Joanne's keen to find out about the kind of work-life balance

0:25:51 > 0:25:55she might have as a nurse in a hospital like this.

0:25:55 > 0:25:56It's a 38-hour week.

0:25:56 > 0:26:00The vast majority of our staff prefer to work 12-hour-shift arrangement.

0:26:00 > 0:26:02And you're free to swap with colleagues,

0:26:02 > 0:26:05so if you've got something that comes up that's urgent,

0:26:05 > 0:26:09it's pretty flexible in terms of getting the shifts that you actually

0:26:09 > 0:26:11need for your work-life balance.

0:26:11 > 0:26:13Just what Joanne needed to hear.

0:26:13 > 0:26:16She's also keen to know if working here would enhance her career.

0:26:16 > 0:26:19We'd take you off for a short period of the year, so we can upskill you,

0:26:19 > 0:26:21provide you with education,

0:26:21 > 0:26:26and that also gives the opportunity for your managers to get to meet

0:26:26 > 0:26:28with you, to discuss your own professional development needs.

0:26:28 > 0:26:30That seems really fantastic, I'm absolutely...

0:26:30 > 0:26:32I'm so surprised at that, that's really good.

0:26:32 > 0:26:34Time now to talk money.

0:26:34 > 0:26:37So, over here, as a registered nurse,

0:26:37 > 0:26:40how much would I be making as a nurse?

0:26:40 > 0:26:44A nurse in Queensland is probably the best-paid nurse in the public sector

0:26:44 > 0:26:48in Australia. You would probably be starting on a salary in the order of

0:26:48 > 0:26:52about 82,000, but on top of that, you earn shift penalties,

0:26:52 > 0:26:54so you can add 20-25% on top of that.

0:26:54 > 0:26:59That's about £10,000 more than Joanne currently earns in the UK,

0:26:59 > 0:27:00great news!

0:27:00 > 0:27:04So how would she go about getting a job in a hospital like this?

0:27:04 > 0:27:07For people like yourself who are well-qualified in the

0:27:07 > 0:27:11critical-care environment, it is very easy for you to slot into the Australian system.

0:27:11 > 0:27:13But looking at your qualification and your CV,

0:27:13 > 0:27:17you're the sort of person that we're actually interested in in terms of employing.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19Excellent.

0:27:19 > 0:27:22If you were to put an application on my desk tomorrow,

0:27:22 > 0:27:25I don't think there would be any difficulty in getting you employed here.

0:27:25 > 0:27:29I'm really happy. The fact that I can walk straight into a job is just fantastic.

0:27:29 > 0:27:32Knowing she could up her salary and skills and see more of her

0:27:32 > 0:27:35family in Australia, has put Joanne's mind at ease.

0:27:35 > 0:27:38But as she chooses between work at home or away,

0:27:38 > 0:27:41will the day have done enough to put Nazeem a step closer to the fresh

0:27:41 > 0:27:43start he's craving?

0:27:43 > 0:27:46I've had a really interesting day, I've seen a wonderful hospital,

0:27:46 > 0:27:49there's lots of opportunities for me here, and based on that,

0:27:49 > 0:27:50I'm going to vote for...

0:27:57 > 0:27:58..Australia.

0:27:59 > 0:28:02I've just got a really good feeling about this hospital,

0:28:02 > 0:28:04the opportunities are there for me to develop and also,

0:28:04 > 0:28:06I think we're going to be really happy here.

0:28:06 > 0:28:09I think I'll be happy, so therefore, everybody else will be really happy.

0:28:09 > 0:28:12Time to share the good news with Nazeem.

0:28:12 > 0:28:15- How was your day?- It was great, really, really enjoyed it.

0:28:15 > 0:28:17The hospital was brand-new, it was...

0:28:17 > 0:28:20Um, all the technology was brand-new, it was really, really good.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23What's the salary going to be like here?

0:28:23 > 0:28:27The salary starts at about £43,000, up to about £53,000.

0:28:27 > 0:28:29- That's really impressive.- It is, that's really good.

0:28:29 > 0:28:33That's about 10,000 more than you're currently on as your starting salary

0:28:33 > 0:28:34- as well.- Absolutely.

0:28:34 > 0:28:37So, he says that if my CV went on his desk today,

0:28:37 > 0:28:38he'd probably give me the job.

0:28:38 > 0:28:40- So that's good.- I think that's really positive, I mean,

0:28:40 > 0:28:42I'm really happy on the sound of it.

0:28:42 > 0:28:44It sounds, like, that you're going to be happy here.

0:28:50 > 0:28:53Joanne's work prospects look great,

0:28:53 > 0:28:58but the biggest inspiration for the Mungurs moving down under is

0:28:58 > 0:29:02Nazeem's desire to play a more active role in his family's life.

0:29:02 > 0:29:06Believing Australia's subtropical climate could help his health,

0:29:06 > 0:29:10a day out on the sunny Gold Coast should give everyone a taste of how

0:29:10 > 0:29:12their future might look.

0:29:13 > 0:29:17The family are spending their day at a wildlife park.

0:29:17 > 0:29:21First, they get up close and personal with a slippery character.

0:29:21 > 0:29:22- Wow!- Wow, look at this!

0:29:22 > 0:29:24That looks beautiful, doesn't it?

0:29:24 > 0:29:27- What is that dot?- There you go.

0:29:27 > 0:29:29THEY LAUGH

0:29:29 > 0:29:32- I like that...- Do you like the snake?

0:29:35 > 0:29:37THEY LAUGH

0:29:38 > 0:29:42- It was saying hello.- Katie's got concerns about the croc.

0:29:42 > 0:29:43Do you think he's asleep?

0:29:43 > 0:29:46- No.- What do you think he's doing, then?

0:29:46 > 0:29:48Maybe he's dead.

0:29:48 > 0:29:51No, I don't think he is.

0:29:51 > 0:29:52Wake up, crocodile!

0:29:52 > 0:29:54- Say, "Wake up!"- Wake up!

0:29:54 > 0:29:58Days like today are few and far between back in the UK.

0:29:58 > 0:30:00- Wallaby Way!- Should we go this way?

0:30:00 > 0:30:03- Yeah.- So, this is little Kicky.

0:30:03 > 0:30:06Keep her right with her tummy up like a baby.

0:30:06 > 0:30:08She's really cute.

0:30:08 > 0:30:10They seem to really like it here.

0:30:10 > 0:30:12It's really nice here.

0:30:12 > 0:30:15- The kids are happy.- I think if we moved here we could actually spend

0:30:15 > 0:30:18- quite a lot of time coming to this park.- Definitely.

0:30:18 > 0:30:20Being able to get out and about with Katie and Tom is a huge

0:30:20 > 0:30:25part of Nazeem's dream and time spent in the Aussie sunshine is

0:30:25 > 0:30:26already working wonders.

0:30:26 > 0:30:28I'm taking less painkillers already,

0:30:28 > 0:30:31so I've actually enjoyed it more today than I would in the UK because

0:30:31 > 0:30:33if we come out for a couple of hours,

0:30:33 > 0:30:37I'm either having to put a heat pack on cos my back's really sore or just

0:30:37 > 0:30:38going home early.

0:30:38 > 0:30:42Although she's had reservations about giving up their life in the UK,

0:30:42 > 0:30:46today's given Joanne time to reflect on how much moving really could help Nazeem.

0:30:46 > 0:30:50It's a complete different change for him because in the UK all he

0:30:50 > 0:30:51does is be in the house.

0:30:51 > 0:30:54I don't feel as much of a prisoner here and that's only in the

0:30:54 > 0:30:58- short space of a week.- He's been putting the laundry on, he's been sort of filling the dishwasher,

0:30:58 > 0:31:02he wouldn't do things like that in the UK. What's he going to be like in a month's time?

0:31:02 > 0:31:05That's what I keep thinking. And what's going to happen in three months' time?

0:31:05 > 0:31:07When we got married, I wasn't like this.

0:31:07 > 0:31:10I hate my life, I hate the way I am and that's not the person I want to be.

0:31:10 > 0:31:14I know moving here is not going to fix everything,

0:31:14 > 0:31:16but certainly it can go a long way.

0:31:16 > 0:31:19Even if his health is improved by 20%, it's just...

0:31:19 > 0:31:21It's just massive, it really is.

0:31:21 > 0:31:24It's been an inspiring day for the family.

0:31:24 > 0:31:28So will it be a done deal when it comes to choosing between lifestyle

0:31:28 > 0:31:29in the UK and Australia?

0:31:29 > 0:31:32So, we've had a really great day at the wildlife park here today,

0:31:32 > 0:31:34so now it's time to vote.

0:31:46 > 0:31:48JOANNE AND NAZEEM: Australia!

0:31:48 > 0:31:50I don't know!

0:31:50 > 0:31:54Katie, why did you choose, "You don't know"?

0:31:54 > 0:31:58Cos...they're both best places.

0:31:58 > 0:32:00I voted Australia because it's really...

0:32:00 > 0:32:02It's really amazing over here...

0:32:02 > 0:32:05Um, we've had a really, really wonderful day here.

0:32:05 > 0:32:08We haven't had the weather to contend with, it's just been amazing.

0:32:08 > 0:32:11It's been really great because I've just wanted to get out and about

0:32:11 > 0:32:13with the kids - which is what they've wanted us to do -

0:32:13 > 0:32:15and been able to do it here.

0:32:22 > 0:32:24In spite of Katie's indecision,

0:32:24 > 0:32:28Joanne's feeling more confident about a life in Australia,

0:32:28 > 0:32:31meaning Nazeem could be within touching distance of the

0:32:31 > 0:32:33active, healthier life he yearns for.

0:32:33 > 0:32:37But will the finances see his hopes dashed?

0:32:37 > 0:32:39The couple now need to work out

0:32:39 > 0:32:41if they could afford to live down under.

0:32:41 > 0:32:46They think their house back in the UK is worth £180,000.

0:32:46 > 0:32:48To see if the valuation's accurate,

0:32:48 > 0:32:52we sent round two local estate agents.

0:32:52 > 0:32:55It's a good family space.

0:32:55 > 0:32:57Nice open-plan.

0:32:57 > 0:33:00Could do with moving the toys, but, yeah, it's a good room.

0:33:00 > 0:33:01I don't agree with the toys.

0:33:04 > 0:33:05Nice... Nice open-plan kitchen.

0:33:13 > 0:33:15So, here we are in the master bedroom.

0:33:15 > 0:33:18Clearly, I would be advising the

0:33:18 > 0:33:20vendors of this property to dress it up,

0:33:20 > 0:33:22get rid of some of the toiletries...

0:33:22 > 0:33:24It's nice and homely!

0:33:25 > 0:33:29In today's market, I would value this property at £220,000,

0:33:29 > 0:33:32a quick sale price of £210,000.

0:33:32 > 0:33:33Wow.

0:33:35 > 0:33:39In the current market, I would value this property at £225,000.

0:33:39 > 0:33:43For a quick sale, £215,000.

0:33:43 > 0:33:44Wow, that's more than I thought.

0:33:44 > 0:33:47To get, like, 40,000 more than

0:33:47 > 0:33:50what you're expecting, it's a lovely shock to get.

0:33:50 > 0:33:52It's a nice bonus.

0:33:52 > 0:33:53I'm well happy now.

0:33:55 > 0:33:57The increase in value is encouraging,

0:33:57 > 0:34:01but how would the Mungurs' cost of living in Australia compare to the UK?

0:34:01 > 0:34:03We've prepared a comparison of expenses,

0:34:03 > 0:34:05starting with the grocery shop.

0:34:05 > 0:34:07Let's have a look.

0:34:08 > 0:34:10Gosh, look at the price of mushrooms!

0:34:10 > 0:34:11That's our favourite food!

0:34:11 > 0:34:13Garlic puree...

0:34:13 > 0:34:15We seem to use tonnes of that, so...

0:34:15 > 0:34:18- Yeah.- It's like eight tubes a month I think we use...

0:34:18 > 0:34:21- Yeah.- We could save a fortune here.

0:34:21 > 0:34:23Fresh pasta... That, as well, that's...

0:34:23 > 0:34:25That's one of our staple foods as well.

0:34:25 > 0:34:27That's more expensive.

0:34:27 > 0:34:30There's a lot of more expensive products here.

0:34:30 > 0:34:32A monthly food shop in Australia

0:34:32 > 0:34:35would cost around £130 more than the UK.

0:34:35 > 0:34:38Oh, gosh. I don't know if we can afford that.

0:34:38 > 0:34:40That's a good question, can we afford it?

0:34:40 > 0:34:42I'm scared, this is such a lot of money.

0:34:42 > 0:34:45And that's just the grocery bill.

0:34:45 > 0:34:47What about the bigger outgoings?

0:34:47 > 0:34:49Basing their calculations on the dream house,

0:34:49 > 0:34:53the couple's mortgage in Australia would be £200 more per month and

0:34:53 > 0:34:57that's not the only thing going up down under.

0:34:57 > 0:34:59Gosh, all these bills seem to be more.

0:34:59 > 0:35:03For me, the gas and electricity is like...double.

0:35:03 > 0:35:07Adding up the figures reveals they would be over £1,000 worse off

0:35:07 > 0:35:09every month in Australia.

0:35:10 > 0:35:13That's extortionate.

0:35:13 > 0:35:16It looks like Nazeem's dream could be in trouble.

0:35:16 > 0:35:19We wouldn't be able to afford to live here at those prices.

0:35:19 > 0:35:24But Joanne could see a potential healthy boost to her income in Australia.

0:35:24 > 0:35:27£722 more?

0:35:27 > 0:35:29That's... That's, like, wow.

0:35:29 > 0:35:31That's, like, amazing.

0:35:31 > 0:35:34It is a huge increase, but is it enough?

0:35:34 > 0:35:39Australia income versus Australia outgoings is minus £35.91.

0:35:39 > 0:35:43So, overall, we're going to be minus

0:35:43 > 0:35:47£322.75 worse off.

0:35:47 > 0:35:49OK, that's quite a big shock.

0:35:49 > 0:35:51Not happy.

0:35:53 > 0:35:57- Not happy at all.- The outcome's not what the couple were hoping for,

0:35:57 > 0:36:01but the sums are based on Joanne's basic salary.

0:36:01 > 0:36:05They said I could potentially make up to 25% more for unsociable hours.

0:36:05 > 0:36:09So, virtually, we are... 25% on top of that and we're almost

0:36:09 > 0:36:12- breaking even, then.- Fighting to keep his dream alive,

0:36:12 > 0:36:16Nazeem points out the extra money from the sale of the house in the UK

0:36:16 > 0:36:19could reduce their mortgage down under and spots another

0:36:19 > 0:36:22possible saving in Tom's nursery costs.

0:36:22 > 0:36:24We're potentially, like, a year away from moving...

0:36:24 > 0:36:27- Yeah.- ..so, by that time, that nursery cost wouldn't be there.

0:36:27 > 0:36:28- Yeah.- So that negative...

0:36:28 > 0:36:31- That would be a saving of £500... - £500.- And then... Straight off...

0:36:31 > 0:36:33So, then, you're straight into a positive.

0:36:33 > 0:36:36- Yeah.- So we would be better off straightaway for Australia.

0:36:36 > 0:36:38Nazeem's trying to remain optimistic,

0:36:38 > 0:36:41but when it comes to the vote,

0:36:41 > 0:36:43will his prognosis persuade Joanne to take the plunge?

0:36:43 > 0:36:46We've been looking at finances today and it's definitely been an

0:36:46 > 0:36:50eye-opening experience, and based on that, we're going to vote.

0:36:56 > 0:36:58- UK.- Australia.

0:36:58 > 0:37:01I chose the UK...

0:37:01 > 0:37:06purely because I think the pressure would be too much.

0:37:06 > 0:37:09I understand what you're trying to say and, yes, it is quite a bit...

0:37:09 > 0:37:12A lot more pressure. Although it doesn't look the best now,

0:37:12 > 0:37:15there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel in terms of things we

0:37:15 > 0:37:18- can change.- I don't think I'm in a happy place right now.

0:37:18 > 0:37:20I think it's just sort of...

0:37:20 > 0:37:22We've been shown the best parts of Australia, I've seen the jobs,

0:37:22 > 0:37:26I've seen everything and now, down to finances, it's just...

0:37:26 > 0:37:28I just feel really disappointed.

0:37:35 > 0:37:39Joanne's financial fears mean Nazeem's hopes of a better future in

0:37:39 > 0:37:42Australia could be on shifting sand,

0:37:42 > 0:37:45and there's one more hurdle to overcome.

0:37:45 > 0:37:48Leaving behind family and friends who have supported them over

0:37:48 > 0:37:50the years will be a tough call.

0:37:50 > 0:37:53While the children are looked after by a childminder,

0:37:53 > 0:37:55the couple sit down to watch messages from home.

0:37:57 > 0:37:59- Right, shall we do this?- OK.

0:38:01 > 0:38:03Hi, Nazeem, Joanne.

0:38:04 > 0:38:06- Hiya.- Hi, Naz. Hi, Jo.

0:38:06 > 0:38:09Hello, Joanne and Naz.

0:38:09 > 0:38:11Naz is a really nice, friendly guy.

0:38:11 > 0:38:15- He likes to get involved and wants to be part of it all, doesn't he? - Yeah.

0:38:15 > 0:38:21JoJo is a very nice daughter-in-law, she's like a daughter to me.

0:38:23 > 0:38:25When they're together, they're a happy family,

0:38:25 > 0:38:27they do everything together.

0:38:28 > 0:38:33They're just going through life as it comes and that's...

0:38:33 > 0:38:36- What can you do?- Naz and Joanne have been through the mill.

0:38:37 > 0:38:40But I think it's brought them closer together.

0:38:42 > 0:38:44As much as we would miss...

0:38:44 > 0:38:46- Miss them all...- And if it's the right choice for them,

0:38:46 > 0:38:49then we'd embrace it and tell her to go for it, definitely.

0:38:49 > 0:38:55It's extremely difficult to imagine life over here without them.

0:38:55 > 0:38:57If they make the decision to go...

0:39:00 > 0:39:02..it'll be very hard.

0:39:05 > 0:39:09Unfortunately, you've now got a rather big decision to make...

0:39:09 > 0:39:11and all I can say is...

0:39:13 > 0:39:16..think carefully and go with your hearts.

0:39:16 > 0:39:20Life is what you make of it and if you go with the interest of making a

0:39:20 > 0:39:23go of it, you'll do well.

0:39:23 > 0:39:27Your dad and I wish you a long and happy life together over there.

0:39:29 > 0:39:35If you decide to make Australia your home, we're going to miss you...

0:39:50 > 0:39:52That must feel really hard.

0:39:56 > 0:39:59I'm starting now...

0:40:00 > 0:40:03I think that's the hardest thing about coming over here,

0:40:03 > 0:40:06it'll be saying goodbye to friends and family.

0:40:06 > 0:40:10It's harder to make a decision now than it was...

0:40:10 > 0:40:12- an hour ago, yeah.- Before seeing that, yeah.

0:40:14 > 0:40:18One week ago, the Mungurs arrived in Australia,

0:40:18 > 0:40:22hoping it could transform their family life,

0:40:22 > 0:40:25but while Nazeem has felt health benefits from being down under,

0:40:25 > 0:40:29messages from home have provided a heartbreaking reminder of the loved

0:40:29 > 0:40:32ones they'd be leaving behind.

0:40:32 > 0:40:35As the family's final vote approaches,

0:40:35 > 0:40:37where their future lies looks far from certain.

0:40:39 > 0:40:42The trial week has shown the couple how Australia could make a real

0:40:42 > 0:40:44difference to their lives.

0:40:44 > 0:40:47I'm feeling better in myself, I'm feeling more upbeat.

0:40:47 > 0:40:49It means the world to me to be able to say yes to the kids,

0:40:49 > 0:40:51rather than having to say no all the time to them.

0:40:51 > 0:40:54I've absolutely loved seeing Nazeem flourish this week.

0:40:54 > 0:40:57His mood is dramatically changed.

0:40:57 > 0:40:59He's upbeat, he's positive...

0:40:59 > 0:41:02I've been like this for so long and I've had these health issues for so

0:41:02 > 0:41:07long and thinking about what I could be like, it's just, like,

0:41:07 > 0:41:11- not even real.- But although moving down under could help transform the

0:41:11 > 0:41:16family's future, Joanne realises it would come at a huge cost.

0:41:16 > 0:41:20Just seeing everybody crying and upset about the thought of us leaving,

0:41:20 > 0:41:22it just tears me up inside, really.

0:41:22 > 0:41:25I don't know if I could do it right now, um...

0:41:25 > 0:41:28I'm just all in turmoil inside, really.

0:41:28 > 0:41:32Without Joanne on board, Nazeem's dream could come to nothing.

0:41:32 > 0:41:35She's the one that's making this move work and she's the one going to

0:41:35 > 0:41:38work every day, so it's quite hard putting that pressure on her.

0:41:38 > 0:41:42I've seen how much positive there is out in Australia with my health and

0:41:42 > 0:41:45wellbeing, and I don't really want to go back to the UK.

0:41:45 > 0:41:49But if she's not entirely happy, then we can't move.

0:41:51 > 0:41:55So, with their destiny dependent on the final turn of the cards,

0:41:55 > 0:41:57where DOES the family's future lie?

0:42:12 > 0:42:17ALL: Australia! Australia. Australia! Australia!

0:42:17 > 0:42:22I think Australia, this week, has given us a brilliant lifestyle.

0:42:22 > 0:42:25It's shown us what we can actually do out here.

0:42:25 > 0:42:27We came out to Australia knowing we had to tick two boxes...

0:42:27 > 0:42:31Basically, improve my health and create a better work-life balance,

0:42:31 > 0:42:34and it's ticked both boxes.

0:42:34 > 0:42:36I love the beach and the sun.

0:42:36 > 0:42:37Do you like the playgrounds?

0:42:37 > 0:42:40- Yeah.- I think we should just, like, apply now, basically, we're just,

0:42:40 > 0:42:42like... What's the point in waiting?

0:42:42 > 0:42:44That's how I feel as well.

0:42:44 > 0:42:46LAUGHTER

0:42:46 > 0:42:47Hey!

0:42:50 > 0:42:54It's been an unforgettable week for the Mungurs.

0:42:54 > 0:42:57Despite an element of financial risk,

0:42:57 > 0:43:01seeing how their family's life could be transformed down under

0:43:01 > 0:43:05has convinced everyone Australia should be their new home.

0:43:05 > 0:43:09With any luck, it won't be long before Nazeem is back enjoying the

0:43:09 > 0:43:12benefits of being in a warmer climate.

0:43:12 > 0:43:14We wish the family all the best

0:43:14 > 0:43:17with their new life on the other side of the world.
