0:00:02 > 0:00:05Adam and Cheryl Castling are basking in newly wedded bliss.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08But they might be about to have their first argument -

0:00:08 > 0:00:10over Australia.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13Initially, I was the one who was thinking about Australia.

0:00:13 > 0:00:17But now you're the one who's kind of pushing Australia more than I am.

0:00:17 > 0:00:18Yeah.

0:00:18 > 0:00:23A trial week is a chance to explore whether Perth is part of their future plans.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26I really love Perth. It's a great city to be in.

0:00:26 > 0:00:30Or will it be a case of till Perth do us part?

0:00:30 > 0:00:34If it doesn't add up and we can't get the wages,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36then what's the point?

0:00:57 > 0:01:01With breathtaking coastlines and a relaxed outdoors lifestyle,

0:01:01 > 0:01:05Australia's a popular destination for those looking to start a new life.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08And with more kangaroos than people,

0:01:08 > 0:01:11there's plenty of room for the 34,000 Brits

0:01:11 > 0:01:13that head down under every year,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16hoping to make the country their new home.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20You've just got married and are deciding on where to live.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22It's happened to a lot of us, right?

0:01:22 > 0:01:25But what if your other half thought that Australia

0:01:25 > 0:01:27was the best place to settle down?

0:01:27 > 0:01:31That's the dilemma that faces the Castlings from Gateshead.

0:01:31 > 0:01:36Across one week, they'll get to see the sort of life

0:01:36 > 0:01:40they could lead and afford if they relocated down under,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43before voting on whether to make the move.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47To get from the UK to Perth,

0:01:47 > 0:01:51Adam and Cheryl have endured over 20 hours in the air.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53But they have taken it in their stride.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57- I found the journey fine. - Yeah, I thought it was all right.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00I'd imagine family members would probably struggle a bit if they were to come over,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03but I think, for me, that wouldn't be what puts us off.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05So what would?

0:02:05 > 0:02:07- Work.- Definitely. It's work and pay.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09And the kind of standard of living, really.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12It has to do all that, doesn't it? It has to be that higher standard of living.

0:02:12 > 0:02:17I want this to happen and I want to show you that we can do this and it is comfortable.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21For now, Adam is keeping his cards close to his chest.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24I'm still on the fence. I'm probably going to pull everything apart.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28But hopefully I'll go in open-minded, really.

0:02:28 > 0:02:29And over the course of the week,

0:02:29 > 0:02:33we'll find out just which side of the fence the couple end up on.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Meet the Castlings from Gateshead.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41They are Adam, aged 28.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44And his wife Cheryl, who is 29.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47And they're loving married life.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Having met at university in 2006,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53the pair got married in February 2015.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Initially, the idea of moving down under came from Adam.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03I was working with a lot of Australians, by chance, down in London for the Olympics.

0:03:03 > 0:03:08And it was kind of... That's where the initial Australia seed

0:03:08 > 0:03:09was kind of planted, wasn't it, really?

0:03:09 > 0:03:12For a young man in his early 20s,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14it seemed like the perfect place to be.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17This really vibrant cultural city

0:03:17 > 0:03:20that had really great nightlife, really great food scene,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24having a fantastic salary that was four times the pay that I'm on now.

0:03:24 > 0:03:25You're living a better life.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29It was all these things that people tell you about Australia.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33I think in my head, that's what I had imagined was, that's what it was going to be.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35And even Cheryl got the bug.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38We went to that exposition, didn't we?

0:03:38 > 0:03:41And we signed up to these magazines.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43And every month, we'd get excited about it.

0:03:43 > 0:03:48When the magazine came through, we'd be reading through and cutting out the bits that we liked.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51But then the shattering news of her father's illness

0:03:51 > 0:03:53brought all plans to a shuddering halt.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58My dad got his diagnosis late in 2014.

0:03:58 > 0:03:59It wasn't the right time.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02It was not the right time to be upping everything that you know

0:04:02 > 0:04:04and moving away from it.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07I had to keep telling him, "Not yet, we need to put it on the back burner."

0:04:07 > 0:04:11And Adam's way was, "Well, if we put it on the back burner, it's never going to happen."

0:04:11 > 0:04:13Not that Cheryl's dad agreed with her.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17When he was diagnosed, he said, "What's going on with Australia?"

0:04:17 > 0:04:20And I said, "We're just leaving off that for now, we're going to put it on hold."

0:04:20 > 0:04:23He was like, "You're not doing this just because of me, are you?"

0:04:23 > 0:04:25And I was like, "That's exactly why we're doing it!"

0:04:25 > 0:04:27He was like, "You're stupid. You need to do this."

0:04:31 > 0:04:37Sadly, her dad passed away in June 2016, leaving Cheryl devastated,

0:04:37 > 0:04:41but also inspired to reignite the Australian dream.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45He found it really exciting.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48I think he would have wanted to do something like that.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51He said, "You need to go and try it, give it a go."

0:04:51 > 0:04:53Maybe because he didn't get his chance to.

0:04:53 > 0:04:55And now she feels her chance has come.

0:04:57 > 0:05:02But Dad has passed, and Mum has given us kind of the green light,

0:05:02 > 0:05:05the thumbs up to say, "I do support you."

0:05:05 > 0:05:08And, ironically, now it's switched.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11I feel right about giving it a go now.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14It's just unfortunate that Adam feels the other way.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18Now Adam isn't as keen on the idea of a move,

0:05:18 > 0:05:22having reached a position in his career he doesn't want to lose.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26My insight kind of really changed

0:05:26 > 0:05:29because initially I was the one who was thinking about Australia,

0:05:29 > 0:05:33and now you're the one who's kind of pushing Australia more than I am.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35- Yeah.- I used to push it.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39I'd have YouTube videos up showing Australia, and I'd be like, "Look at this, this is amazing."

0:05:39 > 0:05:41Now it's kind of just, it's not going to happen.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44We're just going to go by life now and we're going to stay here.

0:05:44 > 0:05:48He's more settled and happy in his work that now he's got the fear,

0:05:48 > 0:05:50the fear that he's never going to find that again.

0:05:50 > 0:05:52He's already been through it once.

0:05:52 > 0:05:57I'd love to be on board with it as much as I was back in 2012.

0:05:57 > 0:06:01But at the same time, I just can't fully commit to it.

0:06:01 > 0:06:05I'm just going to pull every little aspect apart if it doesn't feel right.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08Unless the whole picture is there for him,

0:06:08 > 0:06:10he won't go for it.

0:06:10 > 0:06:12And that's what I'm quite concerned about,

0:06:12 > 0:06:15is that he needs every single thing to be right...

0:06:17 > 0:06:21..to change his mind frame back to the way it was.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24And if they are to move, time is of the essence.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27I think we need to do it now pretty much.

0:06:27 > 0:06:29Because I want to start a family,

0:06:29 > 0:06:32and I don't want to move somewhere with a young baby.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35I think that now is the easiest time for us to do it, basically.

0:06:35 > 0:06:39If you're talking about cost wise, the time for doing it is now.

0:06:39 > 0:06:43And yet they're both aware that everything is being put on the line.

0:06:45 > 0:06:50This is our life savings going on a visa on this whim.

0:06:50 > 0:06:52Yeah, yeah.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55Are we going to like this new life? And that is my biggest fear.

0:06:55 > 0:06:57- Yeah.- But at the same point, I'm not ignoring it.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00That's always there in the background.

0:07:00 > 0:07:05But, for me, the benefits of what could go right when we're out there,

0:07:05 > 0:07:08compared to going, well, this lump sum that we have,

0:07:08 > 0:07:12it can just stay in that pot in that bank and it can build,

0:07:12 > 0:07:15and we can be in the UK, but will we be happy?

0:07:17 > 0:07:20I might be hunting for something that doesn't exist.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23I don't think I am, though. I think it's there. I do.

0:07:23 > 0:07:26It's got a lot of pressure on it, Australia, for that week.

0:07:32 > 0:07:34The couple's base for the week

0:07:34 > 0:07:37is slap bang in the centre of Perth city.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40It's night-time when they arrive at their cool loft-style apartment.

0:07:42 > 0:07:43This is huge!

0:07:43 > 0:07:46And, after a quick nosy around, it's time to put the kettle on.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49- Do you want a cup of tea? - Yes, please.- Right.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54Mugs in hand, they look forward to the week ahead optimistically.

0:07:54 > 0:07:58The city looks amazing, what we're seeing in the dark.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00This is a very strong start.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02Yeah, it is, it's a very, very strong start.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05Then a bit more realistically.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07If it doesn't add up,

0:08:07 > 0:08:09and the houses aren't good and they're too expensive,

0:08:09 > 0:08:13and we can't get the wages, then what's the point?

0:08:13 > 0:08:17Over the next week, they'll discover all of this and more.

0:08:23 > 0:08:26Back in the UK, the Castlings live in Gateshead,

0:08:26 > 0:08:30and their home is on one of the newest estates, with a difference.

0:08:31 > 0:08:33We picked this estate for a reason.

0:08:33 > 0:08:35We got such a good feel for it, didn't we?

0:08:35 > 0:08:39Yeah. It's meant to kind of bring this pedestrianized...

0:08:39 > 0:08:42- Community. - Community feel that, erm...

0:08:42 > 0:08:44Is lacking in all these new-build estates.

0:08:44 > 0:08:48They bought their house two years before getting married and they love it.

0:08:48 > 0:08:49Sort of.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52I quite like the clean, crisp feel.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55I like the clean, crispness, definitely, but I do miss...

0:08:55 > 0:08:57- Character.- Yes.- Yeah.

0:08:57 > 0:08:59We love it. But it's small.

0:08:59 > 0:09:03They have a budget of £250,000 to spend Down Under

0:09:03 > 0:09:06and they've a pretty good idea of what they want.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09Nice, open-planned, airy.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11Yes. I do like the open-plan.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14It's, like, what we have now, I like the open-planness,

0:09:14 > 0:09:17but if you put the kettle on, you can't hear the TV because it's so small.

0:09:17 > 0:09:21So the open-plan, but the large amount of space, I think.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24And at least three bedrooms are a must.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28A big master bedroom, a spare room that maybe works as an office,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31- and then...- Another room.- ..a third room for when guests come.

0:09:31 > 0:09:33And just one last thing.

0:09:33 > 0:09:37You hear about Australia and sitting outside having barbecues,

0:09:37 > 0:09:39it is very cliche, but I want that.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42- Yes.- So, if it meant that we couldn't have a walk-in wardrobe,

0:09:42 > 0:09:45but we've got an amazing social space, I'm happy for that.

0:09:45 > 0:09:46I'm... No!

0:09:46 > 0:09:50To find out what they could get for their money in Perth,

0:09:50 > 0:09:54we'll show them three properties based on what they're hoping for.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57After they've seen each house, we'll reveal how much it costs.

0:09:59 > 0:10:03Their search begins in Seville Grove, half-an-hour from Perth city.

0:10:03 > 0:10:07Will this relatively new three-bedroom family home

0:10:07 > 0:10:08be just up their street?

0:10:08 > 0:10:10- This is nice.- Very modern.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13Straight away, it's got that kerb appeal.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16- Yeah.- Really fresh, really clean-cut.

0:10:16 > 0:10:18No, I like this.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20Ooh, wow. It's nice and open.

0:10:20 > 0:10:22So far, so good.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25- Ah, look at that, yeah. Nice open-plan.- A bit dated.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28I think it's a bit dark in this corner here.

0:10:28 > 0:10:30Mmm, or not.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Maybe the main bedroom will appeal to their sense of scale.

0:10:33 > 0:10:35- Quite...- Oh.

0:10:35 > 0:10:39- That's big.- Yeah.- I like that. - Looks massive.- It's a good size.

0:10:39 > 0:10:41- Yeah. En-suite?- Brilliant.

0:10:41 > 0:10:43Quite an outdated en-suite.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46- Yeah.- I'm sure I can fit in that.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50- Legs straight and everything. - Legs straight and everything.

0:10:52 > 0:10:55- Oh.- Yes. There you go.

0:10:55 > 0:10:56You seem to fit in well here.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58Yeah, easy.

0:10:58 > 0:10:59Into the next bedroom.

0:10:59 > 0:11:02- So, it's smaller.- Smaller room. - Spare room, I assume.

0:11:02 > 0:11:07- You've got space to move around. - Yeah. A bit of storage that will still fit in.- We're fine.- Yep, yeah.

0:11:07 > 0:11:09The family bathroom is...

0:11:09 > 0:11:10OK, there's the bathroom.

0:11:10 > 0:11:12..serviceable?

0:11:12 > 0:11:14- Nice bathroom. Bath tub. Shower.- Yep, yep, sink.

0:11:14 > 0:11:17While bedroom three convinces Adam this place needs work.

0:11:17 > 0:11:20- I think this one's even bigger. - This one is bigger.

0:11:23 > 0:11:25No, it's definitely not a bathroom.

0:11:25 > 0:11:28It needs, let's say, a lick of paint, for want of a better word, but...

0:11:28 > 0:11:31Yeah, it needs a bit of paint, but that's it.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33I mean, it needs a bit of freshening up for us.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35It's going to need to be under budget, really, isn't it?

0:11:35 > 0:11:38If you're going to do work on it, then it's going to be have to be under budget.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41Maybe outdoors will get him on board?

0:11:41 > 0:11:42- Oh, this is nice.- Oh.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45- This is nice. - That's a game-changer, isn't it?

0:11:45 > 0:11:47- Nice little sun trap with a pool. - I love a pool.

0:11:47 > 0:11:50- It's a lot of potential. - Yeah.- A lot of potential.

0:11:50 > 0:11:54So, will this house come in under their £250,000 budget?

0:11:54 > 0:11:57It needs a lot of investment, from my point of view.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00And I know I'm saying I'd want it to be about 220.

0:12:00 > 0:12:02It's not going to be that.

0:12:02 > 0:12:06- And I'm going to hazard a guess and say it's about 245.- Oh, really?

0:12:06 > 0:12:07Yeah. What do you think?

0:12:07 > 0:12:11- I'm going to say... ..210.- 210?

0:12:11 > 0:12:14Yeah. I don't think I'm very good at this.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16- OK.- OK. Are you ready?

0:12:16 > 0:12:17Oh!

0:12:19 > 0:12:22- Oh.- £246,000.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24£1,000 off.

0:12:24 > 0:12:27I'm no good at this. It's not under enough.

0:12:27 > 0:12:30It's not enough. It needs to be a lot, a lot cheaper than that.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33- It's not a fantastic start, but... - Onwards and upwards. - Onwards and upwards.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36That's what we say, yeah.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39Next, the couple move on to property number two in Ellenbrook.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41It's on the edge of a vineyard,

0:12:41 > 0:12:44so they shouldn't have too much to "wine" about

0:12:44 > 0:12:46with this two-year-old four bedroom home.

0:12:46 > 0:12:48Wow, look at this.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51It looks like they have definitely gone onwards and upwards.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54- Ah, this is really nice. - Very nice.- Yeah.

0:12:54 > 0:12:56In through the squeaky door, and..?

0:12:56 > 0:12:59We do like the door. Oh, this is nice.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02- This is very nice. - It's a lot more modern.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04Wow. Look at this space.

0:13:04 > 0:13:09- Oh, wow.- And it's huge, and it's bright, and it's light, and it's modern.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11It's more our kind of cup of tea, isn't it?

0:13:11 > 0:13:15- I get a better vibe from this one instantly, I think. - Yeah. Yeah, definitely.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17Will the good vibes continue?

0:13:17 > 0:13:19Ooh, nice.

0:13:19 > 0:13:22So, this must be the master bedroom.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25- The master bedroom.- Yeah, it must be.- Smaller than the last one,

0:13:25 > 0:13:28- space wise. But... - But...- A walk-in wardrobe.

0:13:28 > 0:13:31Yeah. Ah, there's not his and hers sinks, though.

0:13:31 > 0:13:33Apart from that, it's pretty perfect.

0:13:33 > 0:13:35Did I just hear "perfect"?

0:13:35 > 0:13:37- There's no bath.- Is there not?

0:13:37 > 0:13:40No, there's no bath. I know you're precious about your baths.

0:13:40 > 0:13:42- Yes, I am.- It's fine.

0:13:42 > 0:13:44Will that wash with Cheryl, though?

0:13:44 > 0:13:47- This must be spare room number one?- Yeah, the spare room.

0:13:47 > 0:13:51- Yeah.- Small room, it could be a study, anything.- Perfect.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53Ooh, another "perfect".

0:13:53 > 0:13:55Cool, it's another little room.

0:13:55 > 0:13:59If you're that way inclined, I mean obviously you could knock that wall through, if needs must,

0:13:59 > 0:14:01if you wanted to make it a bigger room.

0:14:01 > 0:14:05- Or it's a perfect sized child's room.- Yep.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08They're starting to see themselves here as a family.

0:14:08 > 0:14:11- For the mini Castlings!- One day. - It could be, one day.- One day.

0:14:11 > 0:14:13- One step at a time.- Mm-hm.

0:14:13 > 0:14:17Some time. There's even a nice surprise around the corner.

0:14:17 > 0:14:21- Erm... Bathroom here. You've got your bath.- Yay, I've got my bath.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24- As long as there's one in the house. That's fine.- Yeah, exactly.

0:14:24 > 0:14:26Time to see the outdoors.

0:14:26 > 0:14:28- Oh, this is nice. - This is really nice.

0:14:28 > 0:14:31- This is really nice.- It's compact... - It's a really nice bit of space.

0:14:31 > 0:14:35- But it's nicely finished. - Yeah.- And I see... A pool.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38- Ooh, do you get a pool?- Yeah. - Oh, nice.

0:14:38 > 0:14:41- This is a lot more us, isn't it? - The whole house...- Yeah.

0:14:41 > 0:14:43I get a lot better gut feeling from it.

0:14:43 > 0:14:45- It's more, more than that.- Yeah.

0:14:45 > 0:14:49So, would this house be enough to convince you to come over?

0:14:49 > 0:14:50Mmm...

0:14:51 > 0:14:54It certainly could sway us a bit more.

0:14:54 > 0:14:56It depends how much it's going to cost.

0:14:56 > 0:15:01Well, let's find out if they can afford it on their £250,000 budget.

0:15:01 > 0:15:03So, I love this place.

0:15:03 > 0:15:06What do you think it's going to be worth?

0:15:06 > 0:15:08285,000.

0:15:08 > 0:15:10I'm going to say 320,000.

0:15:10 > 0:15:12- Shall we have a look?- Mm-hm.

0:15:14 > 0:15:16- Oh.- Mm.

0:15:16 > 0:15:18£253,000.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21That's just £3,000 over budget.

0:15:21 > 0:15:23That's crazy.

0:15:23 > 0:15:25Yeah. That's a bit of a...

0:15:26 > 0:15:30- Yeah. That changes things a little bit.- Wow.

0:15:30 > 0:15:33Well, that felt like a real game-changer.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36But there's still one more property to view.

0:15:36 > 0:15:38It's in Baldivis, a coastal suburb,

0:15:38 > 0:15:41just over half an hour from Perth city.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45Oh, it's really nice.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47While the first two impressed with their modern look,

0:15:47 > 0:15:50this place offers something a bit different.

0:15:50 > 0:15:52- What do you think of that, then? - I like the look of this.

0:15:52 > 0:15:56Yeah, it's nice. It's got a lot of character to it, hasn't it? I'm very intrigued by this one.

0:15:56 > 0:15:58And the surprises continue.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01- Whoa.- Oh, wow. I wasn't expecting that.

0:16:02 > 0:16:04- This is huge!- That is massive.

0:16:04 > 0:16:08- I really, really wasn't expecting that.- You know, it's got nice light coming through.

0:16:08 > 0:16:12Yeah. This has really got a cosy, homely feeling, it's nicely done.

0:16:12 > 0:16:14It's the main bedroom next.

0:16:14 > 0:16:17- This is a good size. - Master bedroom?- Yep.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22- A walk-in wardrobe. - Yeah. And bathroom.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27Next door, meanwhile, is brimming with possibilities.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29Must be a little lounge area.

0:16:29 > 0:16:33- Yeah, it's like a little nook, isn't it?- Yeah. Or a cinema room.

0:16:33 > 0:16:36Or it could be like a playroom.

0:16:36 > 0:16:38Or a cinema-game room.

0:16:38 > 0:16:41- It can change.- It can change.

0:16:41 > 0:16:44- We'll talk about that one. - Ha-ha, when the time comes.- Yeah.

0:16:44 > 0:16:48Time to check out the other bedrooms.

0:16:48 > 0:16:52- Spare room.- Spare room, yeah.- Could fit a double in easy. Cupboards.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56- So, another good-sized spare room. - Yeah, yeah.- That's two spare rooms.

0:16:56 > 0:16:58It's really good. Lots of light coming in.

0:16:58 > 0:17:01Ah, there you go - play area.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04- Or...- No more arguing.- Man cave. - Let's have the man cave.

0:17:04 > 0:17:08- Don't you think you could do a switcheroo?- That man cave's bigger. - Yeah, exactly.

0:17:08 > 0:17:11Kids don't need that much space, it's perfect for them.

0:17:11 > 0:17:15- And plus when you're in the kitchen, you can keep an eye on them.- OK, that's...- Safety first.

0:17:15 > 0:17:17Ha-ha.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19You don't need to see what I'm up to.

0:17:19 > 0:17:22Maybe we should take this outside, guys.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25Ooh, it's nice.

0:17:25 > 0:17:29- This is big. A built-in barbecue. - A built-in barbecue.

0:17:29 > 0:17:33- That's what you always mentioned. Yep.- And then, cherry on the cake,

0:17:33 > 0:17:36- a pool.- This is the biggest...

0:17:36 > 0:17:40- This is the biggest backyard we've seen all day. - And the biggest pool, for sure.

0:17:40 > 0:17:44And the biggest pool, yeah. I can see myself in a house like this, definitely.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46But it all comes down to cost again, doesn't it?

0:17:46 > 0:17:48- Yeah.- How much is it going to be?

0:17:48 > 0:17:53Will it be out of reach with their budget of £250,000?

0:17:56 > 0:17:58I think this is what I was kind of expecting.

0:17:58 > 0:18:01- OK.- Because it's just absolutely massive, it's, like, vast.

0:18:01 > 0:18:04If the price was right and if it was affordable,

0:18:04 > 0:18:06it could possibly sway us here.

0:18:06 > 0:18:08Good. Shall we find out?

0:18:08 > 0:18:10- Yep, come on.- OK, last one.

0:18:11 > 0:18:14- Oh.- £317,000.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17That's nearly £70,000 over budget.

0:18:19 > 0:18:23- That's a lot over. - I'm not surprised, are you? - No, I'm not, I'm not.

0:18:23 > 0:18:26But that kind of shows that,

0:18:26 > 0:18:30without getting the right figures and salaries, it's not really affordable.

0:18:30 > 0:18:33- That's not affordable now, though. - No, it's not affordable.

0:18:33 > 0:18:35- I'm not overly surprised.- No.

0:18:35 > 0:18:37- Just disappointed.- Yeah.

0:18:37 > 0:18:39Yeah.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42It's been an enlightening day on the house-hunting front.

0:18:42 > 0:18:44Property one was a hit on the outside,

0:18:44 > 0:18:47but with lots of work needed to update it,

0:18:47 > 0:18:50Adam and Cheryl didn't think it was worth the asking price.

0:18:52 > 0:18:56House number two really impressed with its modern interiors and pool.

0:18:56 > 0:19:00Nearly on budget, it felt like they could move in straight away.

0:19:00 > 0:19:03Property three was the dream house,

0:19:03 > 0:19:06one that had Adam ready to make a move Down Under.

0:19:06 > 0:19:09But its price tag was well beyond the couple's budget.

0:19:09 > 0:19:12So, property search over,

0:19:12 > 0:19:16which way will Adam and Cheryl vote when it comes to houses in Perth?

0:19:26 > 0:19:28- Australia.- Undecided.

0:19:28 > 0:19:32- I'm not surprised.- Yeah. I'm sorry. - I know, I'm not surprised.

0:19:32 > 0:19:34- There's potential there. - Yeah, I get that.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36But... I need to see more.

0:19:36 > 0:19:39I need more information, I need to see more things.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41It's just the way I am, really.

0:19:45 > 0:19:49Adam's undecided vote has made getting the right jobs

0:19:49 > 0:19:53even more essential if Cheryl's dream is to stay on track.

0:19:53 > 0:19:56Back in the UK, Cheryl is a teacher.

0:19:56 > 0:20:00I'm currently a reception class teacher, so I teach four and five-year-olds.

0:20:00 > 0:20:02I love that age range, they're fantastic.

0:20:02 > 0:20:04They're so enthusiastic.

0:20:04 > 0:20:07It's quite full-on, but I absolutely love it.

0:20:07 > 0:20:12Adam is a retail marketing manager, but he's got a career plan.

0:20:13 > 0:20:16I do marketing at the minute, but something that I would like

0:20:16 > 0:20:19to get back into is doing the events side of things.

0:20:19 > 0:20:21There's not a huge market for it here in Newcastle,

0:20:21 > 0:20:24but it's something that, if it could be factored in,

0:20:24 > 0:20:26I would possibly like to do out in Australia.

0:20:26 > 0:20:28He is sure about one thing, though.

0:20:28 > 0:20:32I'm quite happy to accept if I go in as a marketing assistant or an admin assistant,

0:20:32 > 0:20:35but I need to be on the same salary if not more

0:20:35 > 0:20:38because obviously we need to be able to sustain that living out there.

0:20:38 > 0:20:42I'm not willing to give up everything here that we've got at a sustainable level

0:20:42 > 0:20:44to then go out there and go completely backwards.

0:20:44 > 0:20:48He's adamant - no job, no move.

0:20:48 > 0:20:54If the job side doesn't work, it's not going to work and that's it. There's no fix for it.

0:20:54 > 0:20:57Now is their chance to check out work opportunities in Perth.

0:20:57 > 0:21:01First up, Cheryl visits Como Primary School,

0:21:01 > 0:21:04where she meets kindergarten teacher Tracey Harrison.

0:21:05 > 0:21:07Welcome to the Kindy.

0:21:07 > 0:21:11Oh, I love your classroom, it's so lovely and so well set out.

0:21:13 > 0:21:15More smelly socks!

0:21:15 > 0:21:18And it's not long before Cheryl gets hands-on.

0:21:18 > 0:21:19He set out at sunrise.

0:21:19 > 0:21:23Perhaps he could get a seagull to help him fly.

0:21:24 > 0:21:28Across town, Adam is dropping in on a sports management company

0:21:28 > 0:21:30to meet head of events Tom Wagner.

0:21:30 > 0:21:32- Great to meet you, welcome to Perth. - Are you all right?

0:21:32 > 0:21:35- How are you doing?- Shall we move in? - That's cool.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38What are you looking to land when you get in Perth in terms of a job?

0:21:38 > 0:21:41Have you got an ideal scenario?

0:21:41 > 0:21:43Not really. I mean, obviously, that's what I'm hoping to get for myself,

0:21:43 > 0:21:46of what would potentially be available,

0:21:46 > 0:21:48based on the skills I've got and my CV and stuff.

0:21:48 > 0:21:51We're really just looking for the best people.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54And the level of experience, while it might be a consideration

0:21:54 > 0:21:56in terms of any role within an organisation,

0:21:56 > 0:21:59it's certainly not the be all and end all.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01- OK, that's interesting.- And given you've got passion for the sport,

0:22:01 > 0:22:05it's very much a thriving industry in Australia, sport, and sports marketing.

0:22:05 > 0:22:09I don't think you'd find any difficulty finding work within the industry.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12So, based on the experience and skills that I've got,

0:22:12 > 0:22:15where do you see in terms of the salary expectations for me?

0:22:15 > 0:22:17If we start at a base level, an event coordinator role,

0:22:17 > 0:22:20which is a relatively junior member of staff,

0:22:20 > 0:22:24you're probably looking at around that 65,000-75,000 mark.

0:22:24 > 0:22:27That's around £40,000-£45,000.

0:22:27 > 0:22:30As you jump up in terms of level of experience,

0:22:30 > 0:22:32you start moving into event management capacity,

0:22:32 > 0:22:36then you're jumping up to the sort of 85,000-105,000 levels

0:22:36 > 0:22:38in terms of salary packages.

0:22:38 > 0:22:42Which is roughly between £50,000-£65,000.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45If you can get your foot in the door with the right organisation,

0:22:45 > 0:22:48or if you're willing to take the risk once you're on the ground here,

0:22:48 > 0:22:51there are endless opportunities to look at creating your own events.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54Cool. It sounds very promising, everything you've told us and stuff.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57But the big question - do you reckon you can get us a job, then?

0:22:57 > 0:22:59Ha, well, I am relatively well connected,

0:22:59 > 0:23:02and we've got plenty of big events to work on so,

0:23:02 > 0:23:07once you've made a decision, one way or the other, get in touch.

0:23:07 > 0:23:10I'd love to catch up when you hit the ground here in Perth.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12- Awesome. I'll hold you to that. - Yeah. No worries.

0:23:13 > 0:23:16Back at school, Cheryl has finished her story time.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21And, after a quick play with the children,

0:23:21 > 0:23:24it's time to find out the hard facts from Tracey.

0:23:24 > 0:23:28I've got a BA Honours in early childhood education, which is a four-year degree.

0:23:28 > 0:23:34- OK.- How does that fit into the qualifications you need here to teach?

0:23:34 > 0:23:37According to the Education Department,

0:23:37 > 0:23:40you'd be required to have a four-year degree,

0:23:40 > 0:23:43equivalent to our Bachelor of Education.

0:23:43 > 0:23:48And then you register with the Teachers Registration Board of Western Australia,

0:23:48 > 0:23:52and they then will assess you according to your teaching skills.

0:23:52 > 0:23:55And just watching you in the classroom today with the children,

0:23:55 > 0:23:57they were captivated.

0:23:57 > 0:24:00And I think just the types of skills you're using,

0:24:00 > 0:24:02it's all the types of things we do every day here.

0:24:02 > 0:24:07So I think you'd find your skills are perfectly transferable to the Australian classroom.

0:24:07 > 0:24:09Fantastic.

0:24:09 > 0:24:13So, if I was to move over, how easy would it be for me

0:24:13 > 0:24:15to find a permanent position in a school?

0:24:15 > 0:24:18A permanent position may be a little bit tricky, initially.

0:24:18 > 0:24:22A good place to start is really at relief teaching

0:24:22 > 0:24:24and then once you're actually in the school,

0:24:24 > 0:24:27you get the opportunity to present yourself

0:24:27 > 0:24:29and show how capable you are.

0:24:29 > 0:24:32And if I got a position in a school, what's the average salary?

0:24:32 > 0:24:35As a graduate teacher here in WA,

0:24:35 > 0:24:38you're looking at making about 55,000 a year.

0:24:38 > 0:24:42That's a salary of around £34,000.

0:24:42 > 0:24:44And then each year, your pay goes up in increments,

0:24:44 > 0:24:46according to your experience.

0:24:46 > 0:24:49That's fantastic, thank you very much.

0:24:49 > 0:24:53So, Cheryl and Adam have both had frank but positive feedback

0:24:53 > 0:24:55about their work prospects in Australia.

0:24:55 > 0:24:58And when they meet up at the end of the day,

0:24:58 > 0:25:00it's a chance to compare notes.

0:25:00 > 0:25:03- How was your day? - Good. How was yours?

0:25:03 > 0:25:07Yeah, it was really good. Erm... Talked a lot. A lot.

0:25:07 > 0:25:10He did fill us with the kind of reassurances

0:25:10 > 0:25:12that I could come out here and get a very similar role.

0:25:12 > 0:25:16He said I could earn, like, from 80-000-100,000,

0:25:16 > 0:25:20which is a massive jump to what I'm kind of earning at the minute.

0:25:20 > 0:25:24- As in, you would work up to that or that would be...- Potentially, I could get that kind of role.

0:25:24 > 0:25:27So, that's good. But, yeah. So how did your day go?

0:25:27 > 0:25:29It was really, really enjoyable.

0:25:29 > 0:25:32- Yeah?- The school was absolutely lovely.

0:25:32 > 0:25:37- From my experience I'm on now, I can get about 80,000-88,000.- Wow.

0:25:37 > 0:25:40Based on Cheryl's six years of teaching experience,

0:25:40 > 0:25:43she's done her sums and figured out she could be earning

0:25:43 > 0:25:45in the region of £50,000 a year.

0:25:45 > 0:25:47We've both had a positive day.

0:25:47 > 0:25:51- Yes, exactly.- I feel a big sense of relief.- Yeah, exactly.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55All that's left to do now is vote.

0:26:02 > 0:26:04- Australia!- Australia!

0:26:04 > 0:26:08- Yay.- Yeah, Australia. 100%.- Yay.

0:26:13 > 0:26:16Halfway through the trial week,

0:26:16 > 0:26:20and it looks like Adam could be moving from being undecided

0:26:20 > 0:26:24about an Aussie move to a more positive frame of mind.

0:26:24 > 0:26:27But, with the financial reality check

0:26:27 > 0:26:32and messages from home still to come, it could all change.

0:26:32 > 0:26:34First, though, the couple get to enjoy a day

0:26:34 > 0:26:37pleasure-seeking in downtown Perth.

0:26:38 > 0:26:43It's a beautiful day as Adam and Cheryl hit the basketball court.

0:26:43 > 0:26:46They're meeting Reg and Emma, a pair of expats from the UK.

0:26:48 > 0:26:50Let the games begin.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08Sport is massive in Australia.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10So it would be a great way to meet new friends

0:27:10 > 0:27:13and the couple are keen to get some tips.

0:27:13 > 0:27:15So, how have you found it making friends over here?

0:27:15 > 0:27:17I actually found it quite hard, to start with.

0:27:17 > 0:27:20I originally came over here to play professional sport,

0:27:20 > 0:27:23so I had my team-mates and you're forced into meeting people.

0:27:23 > 0:27:26I don't do that any more. So I don't have those networks.

0:27:26 > 0:27:28So, for me, work friends is really important.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31So it would be really important for you to find a good job,

0:27:31 > 0:27:34but a job that gives you that social element.

0:27:34 > 0:27:36But sport is huge here social wise.

0:27:36 > 0:27:38So, like, recreational sport,

0:27:38 > 0:27:41have you kind of used that to meet people as well?

0:27:41 > 0:27:43I use basketball and football,

0:27:43 > 0:27:46but basketball mainly just to ingratiate yourself and meet people,

0:27:46 > 0:27:48and meet some people and then go for a drink after a game.

0:27:48 > 0:27:50Then you get chatting and then before you know it,

0:27:50 > 0:27:53"Oh, we're going out to the pub, why don't you come and join us?"

0:27:53 > 0:27:55And that's how I made friends. It was always through sports.

0:27:55 > 0:27:58You know, if you want to play a sport here, you can find it.

0:27:58 > 0:28:02- Yeah, yeah.- So what was it kind of like, leaving friends and stuff behind?

0:28:02 > 0:28:05- Look, it's always tough. - Yeah.- You know, it's always tough.

0:28:05 > 0:28:09- Because it's the unknown, isn't it? - Yeah.- You're scared of the unknown.

0:28:09 > 0:28:11But it is what you make it.

0:28:11 > 0:28:15You know, if you want to come here and make a go of it, then it will be a great place to live.

0:28:15 > 0:28:17So, some good, honest advice for Adam and Cheryl.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23And now this young couple want to try out the nightlife,

0:28:23 > 0:28:26so they're off to one of the city's trendiest downtown areas

0:28:26 > 0:28:29for a private gin masterclass from Simon.

0:28:29 > 0:28:33- Hey, guys. How are you? You all right?- Hi. Nice to meet you. I'm Cheryl.- I'm Simon.

0:28:33 > 0:28:37- How are you?- Hi, nice to meet you. - Welcome to the Flour Factory.

0:28:37 > 0:28:39- I'm here to talk gin with you today. - Cool.

0:28:39 > 0:28:42It's going to be an emotional roller-coaster for you, but...

0:28:42 > 0:28:44But it's delicious and it's great.

0:28:44 > 0:28:48- Thank you.- Cheers.- Cheers. Thank you very much.

0:28:52 > 0:28:55- Nice?- Yeah.- It really comes through. - Do you like that?- Yeah. - Yeah, that was really nice.

0:28:55 > 0:28:58- Oh, yeah.- You don't have to go...

0:28:59 > 0:29:02- Just a hint.- It's all in the wrist. Cheers.

0:29:02 > 0:29:04Thank you very much.

0:29:05 > 0:29:07Went a bit deep there!

0:29:07 > 0:29:10Adam and Cheryl definitely seem to be in high spirits.

0:29:10 > 0:29:14As the sun begins to set, the couple go for a stroll

0:29:14 > 0:29:18where they have the chance to reflect on their week so far.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21I'm in quite a positive mind frame, I guess.

0:29:21 > 0:29:24I mean, this morning was really good. They gave a really good insight, I think.

0:29:24 > 0:29:28Like, a very honest insight of what the experience could be

0:29:28 > 0:29:31and then this afternoon just gave us a really nice experience of the city.

0:29:31 > 0:29:35And I think I've established that I really love Perth. It's a great city to be in.

0:29:35 > 0:29:38And just how easy it's been to kind of step out your door

0:29:38 > 0:29:41and find good things, like going out for good drinks, good food.

0:29:41 > 0:29:45It's been so easy and it's so relaxed in a sense as well

0:29:45 > 0:29:47and everyone's been really friendly with us.

0:29:47 > 0:29:51You're not kind of going somewhere and feeling intimidated and I think that's been quite nice being here.

0:29:51 > 0:29:53You know, I don't feel out of place here at all.

0:29:53 > 0:29:56Yesterday, having such a positive experience with work,

0:29:56 > 0:29:58I felt like he was turning a bit.

0:29:58 > 0:30:01And then today, he seemed to have another really positive experience.

0:30:01 > 0:30:06Yeah, I'm certainly kind of swaying more towards the kind of Australian lifestyle.

0:30:06 > 0:30:09I think it's just obviously now a case of everything needs to fit in.

0:30:09 > 0:30:11It all needs to kind of work.

0:30:11 > 0:30:17Every day that passes, I do feel a little step closer to, like,

0:30:17 > 0:30:21this actually being a really strong prospect for us.

0:30:21 > 0:30:23Like I say, I'm pretty much there in my mind.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26I'm here in mind, I just need to get there in body, really.

0:30:26 > 0:30:28So, how are they going to vote?

0:30:36 > 0:30:40- Australia.- Australia. Yay! Yeah, I'm not surprised at all about that.

0:30:40 > 0:30:43No, I'm not surprised. We've had such an awesome day.

0:30:43 > 0:30:46We played basketball in the morning and drank gin in the afternoon, so...

0:30:46 > 0:30:50- It's a good day, really.- You know, what's to complain about?

0:30:50 > 0:30:51- Good day.- Woohoo!- Woohoo!

0:30:55 > 0:30:58If Cheryl and Adam are to make a move down under,

0:30:58 > 0:31:01they need to make sure they could afford a house here,

0:31:01 > 0:31:05so we've sent two estate agents to value their home in Gateshead.

0:31:08 > 0:31:10Oh, this is lovely.

0:31:10 > 0:31:12I like the way it blends

0:31:12 > 0:31:14and it all looks as if it all flows in together.

0:31:14 > 0:31:17I like the open plan of the kitchen as well.

0:31:17 > 0:31:20And you've got a lovely open plan lounge,

0:31:20 > 0:31:22which has got plenty space for the dining area as well.

0:31:22 > 0:31:25So, that will actually be a big tick for a lot of people.

0:31:25 > 0:31:27Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

0:31:27 > 0:31:29Let's have a quick look at the garden.

0:31:29 > 0:31:31I love how positive she is.

0:31:33 > 0:31:35Oh, this is lovely.

0:31:35 > 0:31:38There's somewhere to eat, there's somewhere to play.

0:31:38 > 0:31:42It's lovely and enclosed as well, so it's quite private.

0:31:42 > 0:31:45So, yeah, this will tick a lot of boxes for quite a lot of families.

0:31:45 > 0:31:47Good handiwork. That's your handiwork.

0:31:47 > 0:31:49Oh, yes. I love this.

0:31:49 > 0:31:53There's two windows, which you very rarely get in a master bedroom.

0:31:53 > 0:31:58You've got fitted wardrobes, you've got a lovely study area, plenty of space.

0:31:58 > 0:32:00Yeah, it's absolutely perfect.

0:32:04 > 0:32:06This room's being currently used as a home office,

0:32:06 > 0:32:09however it would be perfect for a second bedroom.

0:32:09 > 0:32:13In the current market, I would value the property at £150,000.

0:32:13 > 0:32:17For a quick sale, I would value the property at £145,000.

0:32:17 > 0:32:21I would put this property on the market at £150,000.

0:32:21 > 0:32:24However, if you wanted a quicker sale,

0:32:24 > 0:32:29it would be beneficial to put the property on at £145,000.

0:32:29 > 0:32:31- That's awesome.- I know.

0:32:31 > 0:32:35So in essence, at the minimum amount, it would be five grand more.

0:32:35 > 0:32:37- That's crazy.- I'm... Pleasantly surprised.

0:32:37 > 0:32:41- Yeah, I'm really shocked at that. If it, you know...- Yeah. - If that can happen.

0:32:41 > 0:32:44With good news about their home in the UK,

0:32:44 > 0:32:47what will the couple make of the living costs in Oz?

0:32:47 > 0:32:50Time to look at the weekly food bill.

0:32:50 > 0:32:53- OK, you ready?- Yeah, let's do it. - Our weekly shop.

0:32:53 > 0:32:56- Crunch the numbers, eh? - Let's see what we've got.

0:32:56 > 0:32:58- Beef's less.- Beef is less, yeah. - But turkey is more.

0:32:58 > 0:33:02- Oh, quite a bit more. And then... - So, that's interesting. - Importantly, tea bags.

0:33:02 > 0:33:04And tea bags, that's the important thing.

0:33:04 > 0:33:07- They are 75p cheaper.- Cheaper. - I don't need to bring my own.

0:33:07 > 0:33:10Look at that. Chopped tomatoes, for some reason, £2.10 less.

0:33:10 > 0:33:12Whoa. That's really cheap.

0:33:12 > 0:33:15- Are you ready to add this up?- Yeah.

0:33:15 > 0:33:17OK. 1.69...

0:33:17 > 0:33:20- Take away...- 53.95.

0:33:20 > 0:33:24Equals £6.90 worse.

0:33:24 > 0:33:27To be fair, depending on what shop we shop at in the UK,

0:33:27 > 0:33:30that's a difference that you can get between going to two different supermarkets.

0:33:30 > 0:33:32Yes. It's not huge.

0:33:32 > 0:33:34So, groceries aren't a problem.

0:33:34 > 0:33:36What about the bigger living expenses?

0:33:36 > 0:33:39Our mortgage at the moment - 570.

0:33:40 > 0:33:43Our Aussie mortgage would be 767.

0:33:43 > 0:33:45The difference is...

0:33:45 > 0:33:47Minus 197.

0:33:47 > 0:33:50OK, so that's minus 197.

0:33:50 > 0:33:52Gas... Wow!

0:33:52 > 0:33:55Look at this. 21.50.

0:33:55 > 0:33:59- Minus...- 174.38.

0:33:59 > 0:34:03- Difference...- Right, so we're looking at around about £500 more.

0:34:03 > 0:34:05£500 more to cost.

0:34:05 > 0:34:08Which I thought, actually, it was going to be a bit worse.

0:34:08 > 0:34:11I thought the mortgage was going to be a lot higher.

0:34:11 > 0:34:13Yeah. But we're 500...

0:34:13 > 0:34:17You know, just over £500 worse off to have a house three times the size

0:34:17 > 0:34:19with a pool and everything that we kind of want.

0:34:19 > 0:34:22- Yeah.- Which is absolutely crazy.

0:34:22 > 0:34:25All we need is a few lifestyle changes to possibly absorb that.

0:34:25 > 0:34:28Yeah, exactly. And we haven't crunched the numbers with the salaries yet,

0:34:28 > 0:34:30- so that's based on our current UK wages.- Yes.

0:34:30 > 0:34:32Still unfazed by the numbers,

0:34:32 > 0:34:35it's time for the couple to figure out the difference

0:34:35 > 0:34:37with their potential Aussie wages.

0:34:38 > 0:34:40Equals...

0:34:40 > 0:34:452,261 and 64p per month

0:34:45 > 0:34:48better off in Australia.

0:34:48 > 0:34:51- Per month?- Per month, better off in Australia.

0:34:51 > 0:34:54- Based on that middle house we saw. - Better off.

0:34:56 > 0:34:59I mean, they were the kind of base-level figures as well.

0:34:59 > 0:35:04- So...- So, per year, that means we could be better off by...

0:35:06 > 0:35:11£27,139.68.

0:35:13 > 0:35:16- That's what we'd be better off a year.- Yeah.- That's another salary.

0:35:16 > 0:35:19Yeah. That's that huge house.

0:35:19 > 0:35:21Wow! That is some difference.

0:35:21 > 0:35:24- That's more than our wages.- Yeah. I can't believe that.

0:35:24 > 0:35:28- That's correct, yeah?- Yeah. I mean, I know I'm dodgy with maths,

0:35:28 > 0:35:31but I'm fairly certain that's correct.

0:35:31 > 0:35:35So, with a bigger house, bigger wages and bigger smiles,

0:35:35 > 0:35:38I wonder which way this vote will go.

0:35:42 > 0:35:44- Australia.- Australia.

0:35:45 > 0:35:49- I think that's fairly obvious, isn't it?- Yeah, I think I would push you in the water if you said England.

0:35:49 > 0:35:52It would be stupid not to kind of vote for Australia based on that.

0:35:52 > 0:35:55- It's a vote for our future. - Exactly.

0:35:59 > 0:36:01So far, Adam and Cheryl are discovering

0:36:01 > 0:36:04that Australia really could be a possibility for them,

0:36:04 > 0:36:07but how will they feel after they've watched messages

0:36:07 > 0:36:09from loved ones back home?

0:36:09 > 0:36:11Hi, Cheryl and Adam!

0:36:11 > 0:36:14Hello, Cheryl and Adam. Hope you're enjoying yourselves.

0:36:14 > 0:36:15Hi, Adam. Hi, Cheryl.

0:36:15 > 0:36:17Hey, guys!

0:36:17 > 0:36:19- Hiya.- How are you, Adam?- Hope you're having a good time.

0:36:19 > 0:36:21G'day, mate!

0:36:21 > 0:36:23Adam's got a very big personality.

0:36:23 > 0:36:25He's very social.

0:36:25 > 0:36:27He is as daft as a brush.

0:36:27 > 0:36:30I'd say he's the most intelligent stupid person I've ever met.

0:36:32 > 0:36:36She's got quite a quick temper, but being a teacher,

0:36:36 > 0:36:40she's got that well under control.

0:36:40 > 0:36:42Cheryl's really, really good for Adam

0:36:42 > 0:36:45because Adam spends a lot of time coming up with lots of schemes

0:36:45 > 0:36:48and lots of things that he's going to do and Cheryl keeps him grounded.

0:36:48 > 0:36:50And that's really good.

0:36:50 > 0:36:53I never thought they would stay here. I always thought that they'd move away.

0:36:53 > 0:36:56- I was actually surprised when they bought the house.- Aye, same.

0:37:00 > 0:37:01Oh, Mum.

0:37:04 > 0:37:07We did tell them they should have gone when they planned to, but...

0:37:08 > 0:37:12As I say, that was their decision not to go at that point in time.

0:37:12 > 0:37:14- It was the right choice.- Yeah.

0:37:16 > 0:37:20It's probably right for them. Well, probably right for Cheryl.

0:37:22 > 0:37:24They wouldn't struggle to make new friends

0:37:24 > 0:37:28and I'm sure they'd have us to visit as often as we could come.

0:37:28 > 0:37:30That's it with travelling,

0:37:30 > 0:37:32you always knew they were going to come back.

0:37:32 > 0:37:35- Yeah.- Whereas this might...- Whereas they might not, I don't know.

0:37:35 > 0:37:37Of course I'd miss my daughter.

0:37:37 > 0:37:40I'd miss Adam as well. So, you know...

0:37:41 > 0:37:43Skype is a wonderful thing.

0:37:45 > 0:37:49I suppose it is hard to imagine them away permanently.

0:37:49 > 0:37:52If something was to come up where you need to see them

0:37:52 > 0:37:55or you're celebrating something, that will be hard.

0:37:55 > 0:37:57You're going away and that's it.

0:37:57 > 0:38:01It's not a holiday, this is a change of life.

0:38:01 > 0:38:04I imagine their family, they wouldn't want to hold them back and say,

0:38:04 > 0:38:06"Oh, no, we're going to miss you too much. Don't do it."

0:38:06 > 0:38:10Everyone wants to see someone sort of live their life to the fullest.

0:38:10 > 0:38:14I'm pleased that you're thinking about doing this sort of thing.

0:38:16 > 0:38:19And I just hope, at the end of the day, everything goes OK for you.

0:38:19 > 0:38:23And good luck to you in the future and I will miss you terribly,

0:38:23 > 0:38:24but I love you loads.

0:38:24 > 0:38:27I think if you don't do it, you might regret it down the line,

0:38:27 > 0:38:31so have a try and you can always come back if it's not what you want.

0:38:31 > 0:38:33You are very brave, I couldn't do it,

0:38:33 > 0:38:36but I really think that you should go for it because it will be a fab opportunity.

0:38:36 > 0:38:39- It's cold! - It's cold, take us with you!

0:38:41 > 0:38:43- Live your life.- Lots of love.

0:38:43 > 0:38:46I mean, it's just a time in your life, isn't it?

0:38:46 > 0:38:49You know, when you've got no children, you're young enough

0:38:49 > 0:38:52and you give it a go or you miss out.

0:38:53 > 0:38:55Either it's not for you

0:38:55 > 0:38:58or it's the best thing that's ever going to happen to you.

0:39:00 > 0:39:02But we'll all miss you.

0:39:03 > 0:39:06If you go, get the spare room ready.

0:39:06 > 0:39:08Because I'll be out.

0:39:09 > 0:39:11Erm... And enjoy.

0:39:11 > 0:39:13You've got to enjoy your life.

0:39:13 > 0:39:15Life's too short.

0:39:15 > 0:39:18So enjoy it whilst you can.

0:39:23 > 0:39:25I mean, I see the...

0:39:25 > 0:39:28Seeing Mum get upset, obviously makes you, like...

0:39:28 > 0:39:29Yeah, of course it does.

0:39:29 > 0:39:32Not rethink things, but it makes you realise the impact that it has.

0:39:32 > 0:39:35Yeah. It is emotional because it's, you know...

0:39:35 > 0:39:38- Yeah, but it's like...- It is what it is, but it's supportive.

0:39:38 > 0:39:40- It's positive.- Yeah. - Constructive feedback.

0:39:40 > 0:39:43- Yeah.- There's nobody there saying, "Don't go."

0:39:43 > 0:39:45And I wouldn't expect anybody to say that

0:39:45 > 0:39:48because we're surrounded by very supportive people.

0:39:48 > 0:39:50- Yeah.- Friends and family.

0:39:50 > 0:39:53They've all said, which we already knew, that you've got to do what's right for you.

0:39:53 > 0:39:56- Exactly.- And like you say, you give it a go.

0:39:56 > 0:39:58And if you don't like it, you don't like it.

0:39:58 > 0:40:00- It's not like you're stuck.- Yeah.

0:40:02 > 0:40:04At the start of the week,

0:40:04 > 0:40:08Cheryl wanted to reignite her husband Adam's passion

0:40:08 > 0:40:10for moving to Australia.

0:40:10 > 0:40:13After a slow start, it seems to have worked,

0:40:13 > 0:40:15but funny things happen

0:40:15 > 0:40:19as the final, ultimate vote looms into view.

0:40:19 > 0:40:22What do you think they should do?

0:40:22 > 0:40:23It's time to find out.

0:40:25 > 0:40:28As the Castlings prepare to return home,

0:40:28 > 0:40:31friends and family messages are still on their mind.

0:40:31 > 0:40:35It hits home when you see your friends and family,

0:40:35 > 0:40:38but it was more emotional than I thought it would be.

0:40:38 > 0:40:41It felt like they were all saying, "Yeah, it's OK."

0:40:41 > 0:40:45It was really reassuring and kind of nice to see that all of our family

0:40:45 > 0:40:48and friends are kind of really behind us on this move.

0:40:48 > 0:40:53And that's what I love about our friends and family is everyone just wants the best for you.

0:40:53 > 0:40:55Getting blessings from their loved ones

0:40:55 > 0:40:58has just been the cherry on the cake.

0:40:58 > 0:40:59It's just been absolutely fantastic.

0:40:59 > 0:41:02It's kind of just gone from strength to strength as the days go on.

0:41:02 > 0:41:05I think it's wonderful. I think today...

0:41:05 > 0:41:08Like I say, the job was a big deal for him, really big deal.

0:41:08 > 0:41:11And then today seeing it all literally laid out on a piece of paper.

0:41:11 > 0:41:15Going through those finances is just, for once in a lifetime,

0:41:15 > 0:41:16it's left me speechless.

0:41:16 > 0:41:19Which I know a lot of people at home will probably be laughing at

0:41:19 > 0:41:22and it's something that can't be achieved, but it genuinely has.

0:41:22 > 0:41:26To the point of nearly kind of getting, you know, really emotional about it because it's just crazy.

0:41:26 > 0:41:28It's a life-changing sum of money.

0:41:28 > 0:41:32It's huge in terms of, like, a future that we can carve out for our family.

0:41:32 > 0:41:35It has been one positive step after the next

0:41:35 > 0:41:39and that's what I hoped for because I needed those positive steps

0:41:39 > 0:41:42to show to Adam that it is doable

0:41:42 > 0:41:45and it can work and if he puts his effort in,

0:41:45 > 0:41:48hopefully he'll get a fantastic career out of it.

0:41:48 > 0:41:50I hope he sees that.

0:41:50 > 0:41:52It's decision time

0:41:52 > 0:41:55and Adam and Cheryl are ready for their final vote.

0:41:55 > 0:41:58So, after everything we've seen in Australia, our vote goes to...

0:42:05 > 0:42:07- Australia.- Australia! Yay!

0:42:09 > 0:42:12- I knew you'd be convinced. - It's really impressed us this week.

0:42:12 > 0:42:16I'm so relieved that you saw the positives that came from this

0:42:16 > 0:42:18and the opportunities that we've got.

0:42:18 > 0:42:21- Yeah.- Because that's what it is. Nothing's set in stone, nothing's a sure thing.

0:42:21 > 0:42:26- No.- But what we have seen is just the opportunities that are available to us here.

0:42:26 > 0:42:28Over the last few days, it's really just showed us

0:42:28 > 0:42:31that the possibilities are really endless out here. It's not limited.

0:42:31 > 0:42:36So, like, I've kind of felt that constriction in the UK and here, it doesn't feel like that.

0:42:36 > 0:42:38I feel like it's just whatever you can make of it.

0:42:38 > 0:42:41- So it's... Australia all the way. - Was that an Aussie accent?

0:42:41 > 0:42:43Australia all the way! Oh, God!

0:42:45 > 0:42:47Everything's just been amazing.

0:42:48 > 0:42:51- Happy with that, then? - Of course I'm happy with that.

0:42:51 > 0:42:53I'd be silly not to be happy with that.

0:42:57 > 0:43:01In the end, the trial week did its job for the Castlings,

0:43:01 > 0:43:05by showing them moving to Australia could work on a practical,

0:43:05 > 0:43:10emotional and personal level, which is how we like it.

0:43:10 > 0:43:14We wish Cheryl and Adam all the best with their next move

0:43:14 > 0:43:17and we'll be following their progress with interest.
