0:00:03 > 0:00:07Rebecca Ellis wants a fresh start down under with her children

0:00:07 > 0:00:08and partner Kylie.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11I've been harbouring the dream of going to Australia for as long

0:00:11 > 0:00:12as I can remember.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16That would mean leaving the children's father behind.

0:00:16 > 0:00:20Leaving my dad behind would be the most difficult thing about moving

0:00:20 > 0:00:21to Australia.

0:00:21 > 0:00:25So any decision has to be unanimous.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28I don't want to go, because I'll miss all my friends and my dancing

0:00:28 > 0:00:30and everything.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33A trial week will help them decide once and for all

0:00:33 > 0:00:35where their future lies.

0:00:35 > 0:00:36Everybody has to be happy,

0:00:36 > 0:00:40so if we get to the end of the week and I'm the only one that loves the

0:00:40 > 0:00:43place, then obviously the move is not going to happen.

0:01:06 > 0:01:07Far away but familiar,

0:01:07 > 0:01:11Australia's long been the top destination for Brits seeking

0:01:11 > 0:01:16a better life abroad. With an average temperature of 22 Celsius

0:01:16 > 0:01:20and over 30,000 miles of coastline to enjoy the sunshine,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22it's easy to understand why.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25But for many, it's not the one-way trip they intended,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28and almost half return home to the UK.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33Growing up, Rebecca Ellis listened to the seafaring tales on her

0:01:33 > 0:01:37grandfather's knee of the South Seas and Australia,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39captivating young Rebecca.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43She's been determined to go there ever since.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46But now a mum with four children and partner Kylie,

0:01:46 > 0:01:49she has to get all the family on board,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51and that won't be easy.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Across one week, Rebecca, Kylie

0:01:53 > 0:01:57and the children will sample the sort of life they could lead and

0:01:57 > 0:02:02afford if they went, before voting on whether to make the move.

0:02:02 > 0:02:06Will the Ellis Waughs buy into Rebecca's fairy tale,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09or will the dream sink without a trace?

0:02:10 > 0:02:11To get to Australia,

0:02:11 > 0:02:16the family have flown 10,000 miles from Heathrow via Dubai and Sydney,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19to Brisbane. Rebecca's been to Australia before,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21but this time it's different.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24Never done it with children before,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26but the children were absolutely no bother.

0:02:27 > 0:02:32The long flights brought home to Kylie just how far away Australia is.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34I didn't realise how long it was going to be.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37And I know some of my family already are kind of saying they wouldn't

0:02:37 > 0:02:39want to make that long flight,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41or they wouldn't be able to make that long flight.

0:02:41 > 0:02:45Now back on Aussie soil, Rebecca's apprehensive about what lies ahead.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49I think for me the big thing for this week is

0:02:49 > 0:02:52for to see Kylie and the children's reaction to Australia.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55Kylie's anxious too.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59Whether it's going to be all it's, like, talked up to be...

0:02:59 > 0:03:05My mum's always talking about it and she says it's really, really good.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09There is a lot hanging in the balance in the week ahead.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13I think there's a bit of pressure on the trial week for the children

0:03:13 > 0:03:17to enjoy Australia, because I have talked about it all of their lives,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19how amazing it is.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21So, yeah, I do hope it's going to live up to their expectations.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26The next seven days will have to make a big impression

0:03:26 > 0:03:30if she's to persuade Kylie and the children that their future lies

0:03:30 > 0:03:31on the other side of the world.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37Meet the Ellis Waughs,

0:03:37 > 0:03:42their mum Rebecca, partner Kylie, Rebecca's children - Ethan, aged 12,

0:03:42 > 0:03:46Mary, who's ten, Timothy, aged eight, and Adam, who's seven.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49They live in Sunderland in the north-east of England.

0:03:49 > 0:03:53Social care manager Rebecca and trainee teacher Kylie

0:03:53 > 0:03:55have been together for four years.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59They met whilst working on a project for the North East Autism Society.

0:03:59 > 0:04:03We spent a lot of time together as colleagues.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05So we got to know each other, like, really well,

0:04:05 > 0:04:08and got to really, like, trust each other as well.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11And it kind of just went on from there, didn't it?

0:04:11 > 0:04:15They became a couple, and Kylie took on a ready-made family of four.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17I'd take on anything for her.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20Even four crazy kids!

0:04:21 > 0:04:25A move to Oz has been on the cards ever since they got together.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27It's always been there in the back of my mind,

0:04:27 > 0:04:29but I think if it wasn't for Rebecca,

0:04:29 > 0:04:33I don't think it would have been pushed forward as much.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35Oh, I've been harbouring the dream of going to Australia for as long as

0:04:35 > 0:04:37I can remember.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40Rebecca was inspired by her grandfather's tales from when he

0:04:40 > 0:04:42travelled as a sailor.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44Australia was his favourite place in the world.

0:04:44 > 0:04:49He talked about this amazing land and his friends that lived there,

0:04:49 > 0:04:53so that kind of inspired us from quite a young age.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58And when she was 19, she travelled down under with her grandfather.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01It was just absolutely beautiful, it was amazing.

0:05:01 > 0:05:03Fantastic! Fell in love with the place.

0:05:03 > 0:05:07Talk of Oz has long been a topic of conversation for the family.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10We hear about Australia quite a lot because it's been...

0:05:12 > 0:05:15..our mum's dream for, like, quite a while.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18She's taught us about all the different things that's there that

0:05:18 > 0:05:20we would be able to do there but not here.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23It's like a mystery and I really want to go!

0:05:23 > 0:05:26Rebecca really believes Australia could offer her children

0:05:26 > 0:05:27a better future.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30I guess a lot of my drive is the children,

0:05:30 > 0:05:34giving them the best life possible and the best opportunities possible.

0:05:34 > 0:05:36They're a very busy, active family.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39Both Rebecca and Kylie believe the whole family would thrive

0:05:39 > 0:05:41in the great Aussie outdoors.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44They're already working towards making their Australian dream

0:05:44 > 0:05:48a reality - they've started an Aussie fund.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50No matter what, we can't touch the Australia fund, can we?

0:05:50 > 0:05:53Not unless it's something to do with Australia.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56Unless it's something to do with Australia!

0:05:56 > 0:05:59They're in no doubt that the time is right.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02Now's the right time for the children

0:06:02 > 0:06:06so that they can get into education settings and, like,

0:06:06 > 0:06:08more social opportunities.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11But getting everyone on board won't be easy.

0:06:11 > 0:06:13I'm fine with going for the hot weather and everything else.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15It's just missing people.

0:06:15 > 0:06:19Yeah, Tim wants to bring his school and his dancing friends.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22It's hard when Tim gets upset about leaving people in the UK.

0:06:22 > 0:06:25But it's not just friends,

0:06:25 > 0:06:27a move would mean saying goodbye to Dad, Gary,

0:06:27 > 0:06:30who plays a huge part in the family's life.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33We tend to do quite a bit together, to be honest. They're never standing

0:06:33 > 0:06:35still. Rebecca's always got something arranged, somewhere.

0:06:39 > 0:06:43Leaving my dad behind would be the most difficult thing about moving to

0:06:43 > 0:06:46- Australia.- I want to bring Dad.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48- That's it.- Yeah.

0:06:48 > 0:06:53He's, like, part of my everyday life and I see him every day for ages.

0:06:53 > 0:06:56Gary's not against a move.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58He's known it's always been a dream of mine and he wants the best for

0:06:58 > 0:07:01the children. And even though it's hard for him,

0:07:01 > 0:07:04he does want us to kind of follow the dream.

0:07:04 > 0:07:08Kylie's mum's not so supportive of the move away.

0:07:08 > 0:07:10My mum straight away was like, "No, I don't want you to go.

0:07:10 > 0:07:14"You're not going." And quite upset about it.

0:07:14 > 0:07:17I think she was quite surprised by the response that she got from

0:07:17 > 0:07:20her mum and I think it has pulled on heartstrings and possibly made it

0:07:20 > 0:07:23more difficult than she expected.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25Australia also has to deliver on another front,

0:07:25 > 0:07:29if the dream move is to become a reality.

0:07:29 > 0:07:33A bit of research that we want to do when we are there

0:07:33 > 0:07:37is to make sure that we would be accepted in local communities

0:07:37 > 0:07:39as a same-sex couple.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41I wouldn't want to be making the move,

0:07:41 > 0:07:44which is going to be a lot of big changes for the children,

0:07:44 > 0:07:47and then to expose them to any discrimination.

0:07:49 > 0:07:52Then there's the practicalities to consider.

0:07:52 > 0:07:56I guess we need to know that it's financially viable,

0:07:56 > 0:08:00that there's job opportunities for me and Kylie,

0:08:00 > 0:08:05that there is the nice, relaxed community atmosphere.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07The week ahead is make or break.

0:08:08 > 0:08:13I think going out there will kind of finalise our decision.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16We're a family unit, we all need to be in agreement that it's going

0:08:16 > 0:08:18to be the best thing for us.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28The Ellis Waughs are spending their trial week on the Gold Coast.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31Their temporary home is this five-bedroom resort-style waterfront

0:08:31 > 0:08:35property. Will it get the week off to the start Rebecca's hoping for?

0:08:36 > 0:08:38First impressions are positive.

0:08:40 > 0:08:41- Definitely!- That looks really good!

0:08:41 > 0:08:45- I just want to jump in!- My first impression I've got so far

0:08:45 > 0:08:47from here is really good!

0:08:47 > 0:08:49Like, brilliant!

0:08:49 > 0:08:51Indoors, the positive theme continues.

0:08:51 > 0:08:52Close your eyes!

0:08:54 > 0:08:56Wow! Do you see yourself here, Kylie?

0:08:56 > 0:08:58Yeah, definitely.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01We're certainly a long way from Sunderland.

0:09:01 > 0:09:03This is amazing!

0:09:03 > 0:09:06So nice, just imagine sitting out here on a night.

0:09:06 > 0:09:08It's like something out of the movies.

0:09:08 > 0:09:10It's just out of this world, isn't it?

0:09:10 > 0:09:13But the thought of Dad is never far behind for the children.

0:09:16 > 0:09:18I'm going to really miss my dad.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22Just to know that I'm that far away from him is really sad.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25I don't know if we could move here without him.

0:09:25 > 0:09:30As she unpacks, Rebecca reflects on the enormity of the task facing her.

0:09:30 > 0:09:35I'm a bit frightened myself, in case it's not right for everybody.

0:09:35 > 0:09:39It's Rebecca's dream, and no-one wants to burst the bubble.

0:09:39 > 0:09:44My mum's hoping that we'll all like Australia,

0:09:44 > 0:09:46because it's her dream.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49You've got such fond memories and, like,

0:09:49 > 0:09:51I feel like we all need to love it

0:09:51 > 0:09:54cos you love it so much as well.

0:09:55 > 0:09:59But Rebecca knows her voice is just one amongst many.

0:10:00 > 0:10:01Everybody has to be on board.

0:10:01 > 0:10:03Everybody has to be happy so,

0:10:03 > 0:10:06if we get to the end of the week and I'm the only one that loves

0:10:06 > 0:10:10the place, then obviously the move is not going to happen.

0:10:10 > 0:10:12So the trial week's massive for us.

0:10:17 > 0:10:21Back in the UK, the family live in a five-bedroom terraced house in

0:10:21 > 0:10:24Sunderland. They bought the property two years ago.

0:10:24 > 0:10:31We bought a run-down old B&B that had sat empty for some time.

0:10:31 > 0:10:33It's quite a big house, really, isn't it?

0:10:33 > 0:10:35It's kind of work in progress.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38- Yes.- They needed somewhere to raise a growing family.

0:10:39 > 0:10:43It's quite difficult to find a five-bedroom house in Sunderland

0:10:43 > 0:10:45on a low budget. It was quite a challenge.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47- Yeah.- But we got there.

0:10:47 > 0:10:51It's kind of been like a project for us all, really, cos we've all

0:10:51 > 0:10:54kind of played our little part in making it a home, really.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56It may have plenty of room inside,

0:10:56 > 0:10:59but it falls short on outdoor space.

0:10:59 > 0:11:02But that's kind of what we had to sacrifice to get something

0:11:02 > 0:11:03on a low budget.

0:11:03 > 0:11:07They've set a figure of £250,000 for a home down under and the

0:11:07 > 0:11:09top priority for them is...

0:11:09 > 0:11:12Access to lots of outdoor space,

0:11:12 > 0:11:16whether that's our own garden or just easy access to lots of local,

0:11:16 > 0:11:18you know, community outdoor space.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21But they don't want to scrimp on indoor space, either.

0:11:21 > 0:11:25It would be great to have five, but we'd be happy with four bedrooms.

0:11:25 > 0:11:27I think the kids would love a pool, but...

0:11:27 > 0:11:31I think that's probably a little bit out of our reach, really.

0:11:31 > 0:11:35They're not expecting to be able to afford the perfect home straight away.

0:11:35 > 0:11:39Jobs and finances would be more important than finding the perfect

0:11:39 > 0:11:40dream home immediately.

0:11:40 > 0:11:44- That's something that can come later, really, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52To give them an idea of what's available on the Gold Coast property

0:11:52 > 0:11:56market, we've arranged for the family to view three properties -

0:11:56 > 0:11:59two close to budget and a third which should be everything they're

0:11:59 > 0:12:01looking for in a dream home.

0:12:01 > 0:12:03First stop is the suburb of Ormeau,

0:12:03 > 0:12:0625 minutes outside Brisbane city centre

0:12:06 > 0:12:09and only 15 minutes to the coast.

0:12:09 > 0:12:13Locals talk about the old-style friendly community spirit and the

0:12:13 > 0:12:15wealth of facilities for families.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19There are good schools, parks, recreation centres, but, above all,

0:12:19 > 0:12:21it's a place you feel safe and sound in.

0:12:23 > 0:12:26So what will they make of this modern, four-bedroom,

0:12:26 > 0:12:27two-bathroom property?

0:12:28 > 0:12:30Oh, look, this one.

0:12:30 > 0:12:32- Yeah.- It looks really, really nice.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34Yay, I was right!

0:12:36 > 0:12:38Oh. It looks nice and bright, doesn't it?

0:12:38 > 0:12:40- Yeah.- All looking good so far.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44Nice little family chill-out area.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46A place where we can spend time together.

0:12:46 > 0:12:47I think it's great.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50It's got the right number of chairs and everything!

0:12:52 > 0:12:54- Whoa!- It's nice.- Well, this looks really, really good.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57- Living room.- It's a nice, big area.

0:12:57 > 0:12:58- Nice space, yeah.- Yeah.

0:12:58 > 0:13:02I mean, it's not a big kitchen, but it's big enough and it's nice.

0:13:02 > 0:13:05It's got a nice feel to it. It's nice and bright, nice and airy.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07Ethan is quick to bag his room.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09This is definitely going to be my bedroom, then?

0:13:09 > 0:13:12It might be the grown-ups' bedroom.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14And what do they make of the en suite?

0:13:14 > 0:13:17- It's a nice size, as well. - Yeah.- Nice size, yeah.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20If I had my own en suite then I wouldn't be so fussy.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23- If you do, you'd have to clean it yourself.- I would.- Yeah?

0:13:23 > 0:13:26- I would, yeah.- Clean the toilet?

0:13:26 > 0:13:28I think that's a "no".

0:13:28 > 0:13:30Young Tim and Adam have had enough.

0:13:30 > 0:13:32Aw, this is a nice room.

0:13:32 > 0:13:35- This is another cute little room, isn't it?- Yeah.- Yeah?

0:13:35 > 0:13:38- It's looking good.- Yeah.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41With four sports-mad children, a big bathroom is a must.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43This would work for the kids, wouldn't it?

0:13:43 > 0:13:45It's got the separate shower and bath.

0:13:45 > 0:13:49- Yeah.- And we've got the en suite in the other room.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51- Whoa!- Whoa.

0:13:51 > 0:13:55- This would work well for Tim and Adam.- Really well.

0:13:55 > 0:13:56So what about the outdoors?

0:13:56 > 0:13:59Well, it's not massive.

0:14:01 > 0:14:04It's not big.

0:14:04 > 0:14:05We would prefer more outdoor space.

0:14:05 > 0:14:09- Yeah.- But it could work, couldn't it?- It definitely could work, yeah.

0:14:09 > 0:14:11A bit of a mixed bag, then,

0:14:11 > 0:14:15but can they afford it with their £250,000 budget?

0:14:16 > 0:14:18I think it's a really nice house.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21- It could work for us.- Nice space. Nice and light.- You can see us here, yeah?

0:14:21 > 0:14:24- Yeah.- So, how much do you think?

0:14:24 > 0:14:28I'm going to go with 235,000.

0:14:28 > 0:14:30- 245.- Yeah?

0:14:30 > 0:14:32A bit more. Yeah.

0:14:39 > 0:14:41GASPS

0:14:41 > 0:14:43£253,000.

0:14:43 > 0:14:46That's £3,000 over budget.

0:14:46 > 0:14:49- Oh!- It's not a good start, is it?

0:14:49 > 0:14:52- I was kind of hoping it would be under budget.- It gives us something to think about.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55It makes you wonder what the rest of the day is going to be like,

0:14:55 > 0:14:58- though.- Yeah. See what the other properties are like.

0:14:58 > 0:15:00- Yeah.- Yeah.- I wish I could turn the three to a zero.

0:15:00 > 0:15:02Yeah!

0:15:02 > 0:15:05Let's hope property number two can get things back on track,

0:15:05 > 0:15:07for Rebecca's sake, at least.

0:15:10 > 0:15:11For the second property,

0:15:11 > 0:15:15the family is travelling just 12 miles south-west to view a house

0:15:15 > 0:15:18right on the doorstep of what is the new trendy spot

0:15:18 > 0:15:21on the Gold Coast, Pimpama.

0:15:21 > 0:15:24The modern three-bedroom is brand spanking new,

0:15:24 > 0:15:26but will it be to the Ellis Waughs' taste?

0:15:26 > 0:15:28Wow!

0:15:28 > 0:15:31Judging from the "oohs" and "ahs", it seems like it is.

0:15:31 > 0:15:34- This is a good area, isn't it? - Yeah. Big space.

0:15:34 > 0:15:39And the positive family vibe continues into the open-plan living space.

0:15:39 > 0:15:42I like this kitchen. I think this would be perfect for us, really.

0:15:42 > 0:15:45The amount of meals we cook, and we do a lot of family meals and the

0:15:45 > 0:15:48children help with the cooking, so practical is definitely the key.

0:15:48 > 0:15:53- Whoa!- The wrestling over bedroom choices continues in property two.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55- I think this will be the adults' bedroom.- Yeah.- Yeah, probably.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57It's very big.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00Ah, this is nice.

0:16:00 > 0:16:02It should just be for you adults.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05- Oh, thanks, pet. - And then sometimes me.

0:16:05 > 0:16:07- Whoa!- Wow!

0:16:07 > 0:16:11But the next room could be up for grabs for anyone.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14- It could be another bedroom, depending on how many bedrooms there is.- Yeah, definitely.

0:16:14 > 0:16:17It could be a guest room for when people visit from the UK.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19While Ethan and Adam take time out,

0:16:19 > 0:16:23Mary wants to make sure there's no better bedroom down the corridor.

0:16:23 > 0:16:25Wow. This is definitely Sarah's room.

0:16:25 > 0:16:27- It's nice.- It's a nice room, isn't it?

0:16:27 > 0:16:30- It's a nice size.- Yeah.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33Finally, just the outside to check out.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35OK, so what's outside?

0:16:35 > 0:16:38- This is nice.- It's nice and neat and tidy and low-maintenance, isn't it?

0:16:38 > 0:16:39- Yeah, definitely.- Yeah.

0:16:39 > 0:16:43They have adored this property, but can they afford it?

0:16:43 > 0:16:45So how much do we think it is going to be?

0:16:45 > 0:16:47275.

0:16:47 > 0:16:49Maybe a little bit more, I'd say.

0:16:49 > 0:16:51- 285.- Yeah.

0:16:51 > 0:16:53Yeah? Shall we find out?

0:16:53 > 0:16:54Yeah.

0:16:54 > 0:16:57Remember, their budget is £250,000.

0:17:02 > 0:17:04- Ah!- Well done, Kylie!

0:17:06 > 0:17:08But that's good...

0:17:08 > 0:17:11Despite it being over by £22,000,

0:17:11 > 0:17:14they are delighted it's less than they feared it would be.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17- It's just perfect.- We wouldn't have to change anything at all.- No.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19We could just move in and live.

0:17:19 > 0:17:20OK. Sounds good.

0:17:20 > 0:17:24- Yeah?- Yeah.- Shall we have a look at the next property?

0:17:24 > 0:17:25- Come on, then.- Yeah!

0:17:25 > 0:17:27For the final stop,

0:17:27 > 0:17:31we found what we think could be the family's dream home.

0:17:31 > 0:17:34It's only 40 minutes away, right on the Gold Coastline.

0:17:34 > 0:17:37A settled, popular area - and the reasons?

0:17:37 > 0:17:39The relaxed lifestyle,

0:17:39 > 0:17:43world-renowned beaches and good schools and hospitals

0:17:43 > 0:17:44all on the doorstep.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46So, is this older,

0:17:46 > 0:17:49spacious house somewhere the Ellis Waughs could see themselves

0:17:49 > 0:17:51putting down long-term roots?

0:17:51 > 0:17:53It should be called the Wow House.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55The Wow House!

0:17:56 > 0:17:59- This looks like it's got lots of character, doesn't it?- Yeah.

0:17:59 > 0:18:00It's a bit more quirky,

0:18:00 > 0:18:04a bit more what we were kind of looking for when we kind of imagined

0:18:04 > 0:18:06- moving over here.- Yeah. - Before they get inside,

0:18:06 > 0:18:09the eagle-eyed children spot something rather special.

0:18:11 > 0:18:13This place is brilliant.

0:18:13 > 0:18:17- It's lovely.- This is fantastic, isn't it, having a pool?

0:18:17 > 0:18:19I think I'd use the pool quite often.

0:18:19 > 0:18:20- I think you would too.- Yeah.

0:18:20 > 0:18:24- The whole family would enjoy the pool, wouldn't we?- Yeah. - We could all have fun in here.

0:18:24 > 0:18:28Let's see if the wow factor continues inside.

0:18:28 > 0:18:30- Whoa!- It looks like it does.

0:18:30 > 0:18:32- Wow.- This is massive.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35It would be beautiful to chill here on a summer's evening, wouldn't it?

0:18:35 > 0:18:37- Yeah.- Really nice.

0:18:37 > 0:18:39It would be amazing.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42And the big family kitchen impresses too.

0:18:42 > 0:18:46- It's a bigger kitchen than the other properties, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48Will the bedrooms be to their liking this time round?

0:18:48 > 0:18:50First, the main one.

0:18:50 > 0:18:52It's a nice bedroom, isn't it?

0:18:52 > 0:18:55- Yeah.- Yeah. - Let's see what's in this door.

0:18:55 > 0:18:57- Wow!- En suite.

0:19:00 > 0:19:01This should be my bedroom.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04I think it should be mine if we take away the heart-shaped pillows.

0:19:04 > 0:19:07Uh-oh, they all love it!

0:19:07 > 0:19:08Let the bargaining begin.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12You can have the last room.

0:19:12 > 0:19:15That's what I was about to say, I think this is more suited for you.

0:19:15 > 0:19:17I'll have the other one.

0:19:17 > 0:19:19Time to venture into the garden.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21This belongs to the house?

0:19:21 > 0:19:24- Yeah.- I think it just looks fantastic.

0:19:24 > 0:19:28But these big properties tend to come with a price tag to match.

0:19:28 > 0:19:31The Ellis Waughs know it must be over budget.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34- So what do you think of this one, Kylie?- I think it's just amazing.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36I think it's definitely like a dream home.

0:19:36 > 0:19:39It's just scary to think of how much it's going to be.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41It is. What do you reckon, Kylie?

0:19:41 > 0:19:45I reckon, like, 395,000, yeah.

0:19:45 > 0:19:48Yeah? I think it's going to be up there somewhere.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50Yeah, yeah.

0:19:50 > 0:19:53They have a budget of £250,000.

0:20:01 > 0:20:05Over by a whopping £141,000.

0:20:05 > 0:20:08I think we knew straight away from seeing the place that it was going

0:20:08 > 0:20:12to be over budget, but it is a bit of a shame because it is such an

0:20:12 > 0:20:15- amazing house, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:20:16 > 0:20:19Their day exploring Gold Coast properties has given Rebecca

0:20:19 > 0:20:24and Kylie an insight into what their money might buy in Australia.

0:20:24 > 0:20:27House number one they liked very much and ticked all the boxes

0:20:27 > 0:20:29and was just slightly over budget,

0:20:29 > 0:20:32but the outside space proved disappointing,

0:20:32 > 0:20:35being too small for their energetic children.

0:20:35 > 0:20:37The second home they loved.

0:20:37 > 0:20:41Modern, spacious and they could imagine themselves living there and,

0:20:41 > 0:20:45while over budget, Rebecca and Kylie felt it was possibly within reach.

0:20:46 > 0:20:48The third house they adored.

0:20:48 > 0:20:52They could imagine waking up to kookaburras singing in the huge

0:20:52 > 0:20:56garden, but the price was well and truly over their budget and the

0:20:56 > 0:20:59family quickly accepted it would take a lot more than their available

0:20:59 > 0:21:02Aussie nest egg to buy something like this.

0:21:02 > 0:21:06So just taking houses into the equation, where would home be,

0:21:06 > 0:21:09UK or Australia?

0:21:09 > 0:21:11After a wonderful property day, it's time to vote.

0:21:17 > 0:21:20- SIMULTANEOUSLY: - Australia!- Undecided!

0:21:21 > 0:21:26Even though the properties were slightly over budget, the first few,

0:21:26 > 0:21:28the first two, I think it is doable.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30- Yeah.- And they were just beautiful.

0:21:30 > 0:21:31Why did you vote undecided?

0:21:31 > 0:21:35Because the houses here were really, really nice,

0:21:35 > 0:21:39but they were way over budget and we have a really nice house at home.

0:21:39 > 0:21:43I think we could definitely end up living here.

0:21:47 > 0:21:50Despite some members of the family sitting on the fence,

0:21:50 > 0:21:55Kylie's vote for Oz means Rebecca's crusade is off to a positive start,

0:21:55 > 0:21:59but they will both have to secure jobs and the right salaries if the

0:21:59 > 0:22:01move down under is to happen.

0:22:01 > 0:22:02Back in the UK,

0:22:02 > 0:22:06Rebecca is a social care manager specialising in support for families

0:22:06 > 0:22:07with autism.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09Do you want to put your coat down?

0:22:09 > 0:22:14The purpose of my service is to offer respite to families where

0:22:14 > 0:22:17children from the age of four to 18 are living at home with parents,

0:22:17 > 0:22:19carers or foster carers.

0:22:19 > 0:22:20She's passionate about her job.

0:22:22 > 0:22:23I love working with the children.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26I love communicating with the families.

0:22:26 > 0:22:28The staff team that I've got at the minute are fantastic.

0:22:28 > 0:22:32She wants to carry on with this sort of work if she were to move to

0:22:32 > 0:22:35- Australia.- I would love to be able to take the skills and the knowledge

0:22:35 > 0:22:39that I've learnt about autism in the UK and work helping families and

0:22:39 > 0:22:41children in Australia.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44Having also worked for the North East Autistic Society,

0:22:44 > 0:22:47Kylie is now in her final year of teacher-training for children

0:22:47 > 0:22:49with special needs.

0:22:49 > 0:22:51I think teaching is really rewarding,

0:22:51 > 0:22:54especially when you kind of get some of the students who have really

0:22:54 > 0:22:58struggled and you kind of help them to achieve something that may not

0:22:58 > 0:23:00have always been possible.

0:23:00 > 0:23:04She's a bit disillusioned with the UK education system.

0:23:04 > 0:23:09I feel that the education system in the UK is very assessment driven.

0:23:09 > 0:23:13I'm hoping that by going to Australia they might look at that

0:23:13 > 0:23:16a bit differently, because I find over here it doesn't always work

0:23:16 > 0:23:18well for all the students.

0:23:18 > 0:23:22But she does have one big worry when it comes to jobs.

0:23:22 > 0:23:25I've worked hard to get to where I am now.

0:23:25 > 0:23:28If I do have to do some training again

0:23:28 > 0:23:30obviously that wouldn't be a major issue,

0:23:30 > 0:23:33but if I did have to go and start from the beginning again,

0:23:33 > 0:23:35that would be quite scary.

0:23:37 > 0:23:41First up, Rebecca visits a group working with autistic children.

0:23:41 > 0:23:43Expat Lauren gives her a quick tour.

0:23:43 > 0:23:47This organisation has nine centres across Queensland with over 200

0:23:47 > 0:23:49families on its books,

0:23:49 > 0:23:52the largest organisation of its kind in Australia.

0:23:52 > 0:23:55She's in the right place, but is there work for her?

0:23:55 > 0:23:59I can see that your skills actually transfer to an advanced diploma in

0:23:59 > 0:24:02education and care, which is fantastic.

0:24:02 > 0:24:06So that is something that we would look for in staff here when we are

0:24:06 > 0:24:09- hiring.- If I was able to get a role within your organisation,

0:24:09 > 0:24:11what would I potentially earn?

0:24:11 > 0:24:16Salary would range from about £29,000 and that would be

0:24:16 > 0:24:21for a room leader position, and the other option would be £39,000 and

0:24:21 > 0:24:23that's for a service manager role.

0:24:23 > 0:24:28£39,000 is £3,000 more than she currently earns in the UK.

0:24:28 > 0:24:29Could she be eligible?

0:24:29 > 0:24:32So the big question, could I potentially work at your organisation?

0:24:32 > 0:24:34Yes, absolutely.

0:24:34 > 0:24:36With your qualifications and experience you would definitely be

0:24:36 > 0:24:38suitable for a service manager position.

0:24:38 > 0:24:40I hope that's been really helpful for you.

0:24:40 > 0:24:41It's been really helpful.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44Really good. Thank you for your time. It's been fantastic to hear.

0:24:44 > 0:24:46Positive news for Rebecca.

0:24:46 > 0:24:48I wonder how Kylie is getting on.

0:24:48 > 0:24:50She's visiting Glenleighden School,

0:24:50 > 0:24:54a private school specialising in children with special needs.

0:24:54 > 0:24:56Hello, Kylie, so lovely to meet you.

0:24:56 > 0:24:58She meets principal Debbie Creed.

0:25:00 > 0:25:03First up, Kylie gets a front-row view.

0:25:04 > 0:25:06She's impressed.

0:25:06 > 0:25:08Next, it's a work-out in the school gym,

0:25:08 > 0:25:11which, delightfully, is outside in the sun.

0:25:13 > 0:25:15So what would Kylie have to do to get a job here?

0:25:16 > 0:25:19Firstly, you must get your Postgraduate Certificate

0:25:19 > 0:25:24of Education, and finally, we cannot hire anyone in Queensland

0:25:24 > 0:25:26as a teacher unless they are

0:25:26 > 0:25:29registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.

0:25:29 > 0:25:32So if I was to work in your school, what could I potentially earn?

0:25:32 > 0:25:35Your starting salary as an entry-level teacher

0:25:35 > 0:25:39would be around £44,000.

0:25:39 > 0:25:42Then, within about ten years you have the potential to earn

0:25:42 > 0:25:44around £58,000.

0:25:44 > 0:25:46Wow.

0:25:46 > 0:25:47So with the skills that I have,

0:25:47 > 0:25:50do you think I could possibly get a job either in your school

0:25:50 > 0:25:52- or within Australia?- Absolutely.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55Once you finish that Postgraduate Certificate of Education we would

0:25:55 > 0:25:57love for you to send us your resume.

0:25:57 > 0:25:59- Fantastic.- It's been a pleasure.

0:25:59 > 0:26:02- Thank you.- Time to compare notes.

0:26:02 > 0:26:04Rebecca and Kylie catch up on how the day went.

0:26:07 > 0:26:09So how has your day gone?

0:26:09 > 0:26:11Really well. Really good.

0:26:11 > 0:26:13I'm happy about the information I got,

0:26:13 > 0:26:16to hear that my skills are transferable and a similar job role.

0:26:17 > 0:26:20And the salary was actually better than at home.

0:26:20 > 0:26:23It was £39,000.

0:26:23 > 0:26:26Yes, so really positive.

0:26:26 > 0:26:28- How was yours?- Really good as well.

0:26:28 > 0:26:29- Yeah?- Yeah.

0:26:29 > 0:26:31The school was fantastic.

0:26:31 > 0:26:33- Was it?- Yes.

0:26:33 > 0:26:38My qualifications are good enough, as long as I've got my PGCE.

0:26:38 > 0:26:41The starting salary is 44,000!

0:26:41 > 0:26:43Oh, wow!

0:26:43 > 0:26:45- Pounds?- Yes.

0:26:45 > 0:26:51- That's fantastic.- With the potential over ten years to go up to £58,000.

0:26:51 > 0:26:52That's really good, isn't it?

0:26:52 > 0:26:54Yes.

0:26:54 > 0:26:58As the sun sets on the work day, just one last thing to do.

0:26:58 > 0:27:02After a really informative work day it's now time to vote.

0:27:07 > 0:27:09- Australia.- Australia.

0:27:11 > 0:27:13I chose Australia.

0:27:13 > 0:27:17I just think the opportunities over here are fantastic.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19The starting salaries were amazing.

0:27:19 > 0:27:22So introducing you to Australia was a good idea and it's going well?

0:27:22 > 0:27:25- Yes, really well.- Total relief!

0:27:28 > 0:27:31- So it's been a really good day? - Yes. Definitely.

0:27:31 > 0:27:33- It's been fab, hasn't it?- Yes.

0:27:37 > 0:27:40Halfway through the week and it's going pretty well.

0:27:40 > 0:27:45Property and work options were very positive for both Rebecca and Kylie,

0:27:45 > 0:27:47much more so than anticipated.

0:27:47 > 0:27:51But the hard bits of the week are still to come.

0:27:51 > 0:27:54Could the family afford this lifestyle?

0:27:54 > 0:27:57And the friends and family messages will be hard to hear,

0:27:57 > 0:27:59especially for the children.

0:27:59 > 0:28:02But as this family is all about the team,

0:28:02 > 0:28:06first there is a day out with the mums, enjoying the great outdoor

0:28:06 > 0:28:08lifestyle they've all been promised.

0:28:10 > 0:28:13The family's day out begins with some paddleboarding.

0:28:13 > 0:28:16Time to get kitted out and all pumped up.

0:28:18 > 0:28:20Got that rhythm, brother.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23It certainly makes a splash with the children.

0:28:25 > 0:28:27I've enjoyed the paddleboarding.

0:28:27 > 0:28:29That was really good.

0:28:29 > 0:28:31Even though I fell off a few times!

0:28:32 > 0:28:34This week has been very entertaining.

0:28:34 > 0:28:37I've really enjoyed being in Australia.

0:28:40 > 0:28:45It's Kylie's first time in Australia and she is liking what she sees.

0:28:45 > 0:28:46The paddleboarding was just amazing.

0:28:46 > 0:28:48We just seemed to have loads of fun.

0:28:48 > 0:28:51It was really relaxing just being on the water.

0:28:51 > 0:28:55And for Rebecca, it just makes her more determined than ever to move.

0:28:55 > 0:28:59This week's confirmed for me that moving to Australia would be a

0:28:59 > 0:29:02fantastic opportunity for Kylie, myself and the children.

0:29:02 > 0:29:06If they all chose Australia it would just be absolutely fantastic.

0:29:06 > 0:29:08It really would be a weight lifted off my shoulder.

0:29:08 > 0:29:10Time to feed the fish.

0:29:10 > 0:29:12This is an old Aboriginal trick.

0:29:12 > 0:29:15There's about 500 fish around us at the moment.

0:29:21 > 0:29:23See, now you are fish whisperers!

0:29:23 > 0:29:25You're going to have to come to Australia now.

0:29:27 > 0:29:31But over lunch the children express their concerns for the first time

0:29:31 > 0:29:34- in the week. - So are you enjoying Australia?

0:29:34 > 0:29:37- Yes?- I'm still missing my friends.

0:29:37 > 0:29:39You are still missing your friends?

0:29:39 > 0:29:40Could you imagine living here?

0:29:40 > 0:29:42- No.- No?

0:29:42 > 0:29:46It's been really difficult because I've been missing Dad and friends

0:29:46 > 0:29:48and family and all the rest,

0:29:48 > 0:29:52and it's a different time and opposite day and I think you are

0:29:52 > 0:29:56that far away from them, it makes us a bit sad.

0:29:56 > 0:29:59He's only nine and he's quite a sensitive little soul and I don't want him

0:29:59 > 0:30:02to feel he can't share it because everybody else is going the other way.

0:30:02 > 0:30:05So we're just going to have to make sure we're being quite sensitive

0:30:05 > 0:30:09to his feelings and have a good few open chats.

0:30:09 > 0:30:12It's obvious the life-changing decision they are going to make

0:30:12 > 0:30:15is uppermost in their minds.

0:30:15 > 0:30:18Moving over away from the family would be quite upsetting.

0:30:18 > 0:30:20Not being able to see them as much.

0:30:20 > 0:30:23I know my mum, she doesn't want to miss out on my life.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26It is a tough decision for Kylie and that is a big consideration.

0:30:26 > 0:30:27The last few days, obviously,

0:30:27 > 0:30:32we can communicate but I don't know whether that would be enough.

0:30:32 > 0:30:36And of course they have to find out if they can afford it.

0:30:36 > 0:30:40I am a little bit worried about the reality check but we had quite good

0:30:40 > 0:30:43news on the work day so I'm hoping that things will even out.

0:30:44 > 0:30:49The bottom line is that Rebecca's dream lies in the hands of her family.

0:30:49 > 0:30:53I think a lot of us would quite like to move here but I don't know if we

0:30:53 > 0:30:56would move if somebody didn't.

0:30:56 > 0:30:59At the end of the week, if everybody votes for Australia it will be like

0:30:59 > 0:31:02a weight off my shoulders to know that we can all follow our dreams

0:31:02 > 0:31:05without anybody feeling like they were getting dragged to

0:31:05 > 0:31:06the other side of the world.

0:31:06 > 0:31:09Finally, the family are off to meet another Rebecca,

0:31:09 > 0:31:12who can give them a personal perspective on how same-sex couples

0:31:12 > 0:31:14are welcomed in Queensland.

0:31:14 > 0:31:17We didn't expect the children to get negative comments off other children

0:31:17 > 0:31:21about Mum having a girlfriend or two mums and things like that.

0:31:21 > 0:31:23Would you expect anything like that to happen in Australia?

0:31:23 > 0:31:29We've only ever had super, super-positive, no dramas at all.

0:31:29 > 0:31:33My memories from 18 years back of Australians and the community

0:31:33 > 0:31:36is that they were quite laid-back and quite accepting.

0:31:36 > 0:31:39But the legislation here,

0:31:39 > 0:31:43you don't have same-sex marriage and in the UK we are a bit ahead with

0:31:43 > 0:31:45things like that.

0:31:45 > 0:31:48Yeah, the only thing that's missing is that piece of paper and I think,

0:31:48 > 0:31:50- you know, love is love.- Yeah.

0:31:50 > 0:31:52Love makes a family, as they say.

0:31:53 > 0:31:56So my memories of laid-back Aussies are true?

0:31:56 > 0:31:57Yes.

0:31:58 > 0:32:01Back on the beach, it's time to vote.

0:32:01 > 0:32:04Will it be one team, one dream?

0:32:04 > 0:32:08After an outstanding lifestyle day we need to vote.

0:32:12 > 0:32:14ALL: Australia!

0:32:16 > 0:32:20I voted Australia because you wouldn't be able to do this,

0:32:20 > 0:32:25especially in winter, go out paddleboarding.

0:32:25 > 0:32:27There are just more opportunities, I think.

0:32:27 > 0:32:30- It's been amazing.- Yes. - It's been really fun.

0:32:30 > 0:32:33- It's been great, hasn't it?- Yes.

0:32:34 > 0:32:39With everyone voting for Australia, it looks like it's full steam ahead

0:32:39 > 0:32:42for Rebecca's vision of a new life down under.

0:32:46 > 0:32:47With minds put at ease,

0:32:47 > 0:32:51Rebecca could be within touching distance of achieving the dream

0:32:51 > 0:32:54lifestyle she has yearned for for nearly two decades.

0:32:54 > 0:32:58But will the finances see her hopes dashed?

0:32:58 > 0:33:03She and Kylie now need to work out if they could afford to live down under.

0:33:03 > 0:33:07They think their house back in the UK is worth around £100,000.

0:33:07 > 0:33:10To see if that's accurate, we sent round two local estate agents.

0:33:10 > 0:33:15- We are going to see the house in the UK.- Yes.- Yeah?- No.

0:33:22 > 0:33:25OK. Really nice first impression.

0:33:25 > 0:33:27Nice high ceilings. Nice original features.

0:33:27 > 0:33:30Obviously needs a bit of updating, which seems to have been started.

0:33:30 > 0:33:32But a good first impression of the home.

0:33:32 > 0:33:34Lovely wood-burning stove.

0:33:35 > 0:33:38Double French doors through to the garden - a nice touch.

0:33:38 > 0:33:40Great family space.

0:33:40 > 0:33:43Ground-floor bathroom. It could probably do with a little updating.

0:33:43 > 0:33:47- Definitely.- But certainly a nice feature to have for a family home.

0:33:47 > 0:33:48What a great space.

0:33:48 > 0:33:52It could do with internal updating to appeal to buyers.

0:33:52 > 0:33:54Plenty of potential.

0:33:54 > 0:33:57If the owners can maintain this standard of finish through the rest

0:33:57 > 0:34:01of the house it's really going to add to the value. It's lovely.

0:34:01 > 0:34:03A really nice-size main bedroom.

0:34:03 > 0:34:05A very nice room. Really impressive.

0:34:05 > 0:34:07An impressive five-bedroom family home.

0:34:07 > 0:34:11In its current state I would value the house at 99,950.

0:34:11 > 0:34:15If the vendor were to improve the bathroom and kitchen I would value

0:34:15 > 0:34:17the property at 115,000.

0:34:17 > 0:34:20I expect it to sell for around about £105,000.

0:34:20 > 0:34:23I think they would be better off finishing off the property

0:34:23 > 0:34:26throughout to the same standard as some of the rooms and then I would

0:34:26 > 0:34:28expect them to achieve round about £125,000.

0:34:28 > 0:34:30I think that's pretty spot-on to what we thought it would be.

0:34:30 > 0:34:33- Yeah.- We've guessed that quite well.- Definitely.

0:34:33 > 0:34:38I'm definitely better at the right value in English properties than Australian properties!

0:34:38 > 0:34:39Well, I'm just good.

0:34:41 > 0:34:45The valuations are encouraging but how would the cost of living in

0:34:45 > 0:34:47Australia compare with that in the UK?

0:34:47 > 0:34:50If the sums don't add up, they are going nowhere.

0:34:50 > 0:34:51- It's scary, this bit.- Yes.

0:34:51 > 0:34:54Let's see if we can afford to live here happily.

0:34:54 > 0:34:56Shall we find out?

0:34:56 > 0:34:57- Are we ready?- Yes.

0:34:59 > 0:35:03We've prepared a comparison of expenses starting with the grocery shop.

0:35:03 > 0:35:06Semi-skimmed milk - 99p in the UK...

0:35:07 > 0:35:12..compared to £1.21 in Australia.

0:35:12 > 0:35:15It looks like the food shop in Australia is going to be

0:35:15 > 0:35:18substantially more expensive than the food shop in the UK.

0:35:18 > 0:35:21Looks like Rebecca could be right.

0:35:21 > 0:35:25So a weekly shop in Australia

0:35:25 > 0:35:29is going to be £151.56.

0:35:29 > 0:35:33That's more than £60 extra a week on food alone.

0:35:33 > 0:35:34That's a lot of money.

0:35:34 > 0:35:37That's scary, how much more we'd be spending.

0:35:37 > 0:35:40Every week. I'm quite worried about what else is to come.

0:35:40 > 0:35:44- Yes.- Basing their figures on the second property they saw,

0:35:44 > 0:35:47their mortgage wouldn't be much more than that in the UK.

0:35:47 > 0:35:49Then, looking at the other big bills,

0:35:49 > 0:35:52the outlook's brighter than anticipated.

0:35:52 > 0:35:57£61.82 less a month.

0:35:57 > 0:35:58That's promising.

0:35:58 > 0:36:02And with them popping £500 a month into the Australia fund back home,

0:36:02 > 0:36:04there is even more money to play with.

0:36:04 > 0:36:05It's looking good.

0:36:07 > 0:36:10So taking everything into consideration,

0:36:10 > 0:36:13where does it leave the Ellis Waughs overall?

0:36:13 > 0:36:21So in Australia we would be £2,192.82 per month

0:36:21 > 0:36:25better off living in Australia than the UK.

0:36:25 > 0:36:28That's just crazy. That's just absolutely...

0:36:28 > 0:36:31So living the way we live in the UK that's how much more...

0:36:31 > 0:36:36We could even look at a five-bedroom property rather than the four.

0:36:36 > 0:36:37Yes.

0:36:37 > 0:36:40- It's just amazing.- They don't know how each other is going to vote.

0:36:40 > 0:36:42What do you think?

0:36:42 > 0:36:44It's been an interesting reality day. It's time to vote.

0:36:49 > 0:36:51- Australia.- Australia.

0:36:52 > 0:36:57So I voted Australia because I think we'd be stupid not to consider

0:36:57 > 0:36:59Australia after the results we've had today.

0:37:05 > 0:37:07With financial fears put to bed,

0:37:07 > 0:37:11Rebecca's chances of a better future in Australia are looking better than

0:37:11 > 0:37:15ever. But there is still one final hurdle to overcome and it's the

0:37:15 > 0:37:19biggest one - leaving family behind will be a tough call.

0:37:19 > 0:37:24There is a much-loved mum and an adored hands-on dad being left behind.

0:37:24 > 0:37:26Do you want to see your dad? Do you want to see it, Tim?

0:37:26 > 0:37:28Are you sure?

0:37:28 > 0:37:30Mary, do you want to see it?

0:37:30 > 0:37:33Ethan has decided to sit this one out but the rest of the family

0:37:33 > 0:37:37cuddle together to hear from loved ones back home.

0:37:37 > 0:37:39Hi, kids, I hope you're having a great time.

0:37:39 > 0:37:41Hello.

0:37:41 > 0:37:44Hi, Kylie, hi, Rebecca, hi, kids.

0:37:44 > 0:37:46Hello.

0:37:46 > 0:37:48Hello.

0:37:48 > 0:37:51Kylie seems to be herself now. She seems really settled.

0:37:51 > 0:37:54They seem very happy together.

0:37:54 > 0:37:57Rebecca's lovely. Very grounded, very sensible.

0:37:57 > 0:37:59Quite opposite to Kylie.

0:37:59 > 0:38:04They are very lively, very noisy, but they are great kids.

0:38:04 > 0:38:06I've never experienced Australia as Rebecca has.

0:38:06 > 0:38:08It seems to be...

0:38:09 > 0:38:13..a better place for the children and I'm sure if they go over there

0:38:13 > 0:38:14I would probably have to go too.

0:38:18 > 0:38:22The kids are always there for Tempie and it's almost like one big family.

0:38:22 > 0:38:24I think I will miss that a lot.

0:38:24 > 0:38:26I will miss playing with them.

0:38:28 > 0:38:30I'd miss them terribly, yes.

0:38:30 > 0:38:33All the grandbairns seem to have moved away.

0:38:33 > 0:38:35It is quite hard for my mum,

0:38:35 > 0:38:38not having any of the grandbairns around her now.

0:38:40 > 0:38:42Miss you all so much.

0:38:42 > 0:38:43Totally jealous you didn't take us with you.

0:38:43 > 0:38:46Well, me with you anyway.

0:38:46 > 0:38:48Kylie, I would say go for it.

0:38:48 > 0:38:54You get one go in life and you've got to live it so better to go,

0:38:54 > 0:38:57and if it doesn't work out come back, than not go at all.

0:38:59 > 0:39:02Well, kids, I hope you've had a wonderful time anyway and time will

0:39:02 > 0:39:06tell where you will end up, and hopefully I'll end up there too.

0:39:06 > 0:39:11You know that you guys mean the world to me but I think if you think

0:39:11 > 0:39:15you will be happy over there, I think you should go for it.

0:39:17 > 0:39:21I know it's a big decision for you and maybe it is going to be a

0:39:21 > 0:39:25perfect opportunity but I would like you to stay at home.

0:39:26 > 0:39:28It's OK.

0:39:32 > 0:39:35And it sounded like your dad's following us.

0:39:35 > 0:39:36Doesn't it?

0:39:37 > 0:39:39I don't think we have a choice in that, do we?

0:39:39 > 0:39:42I don't think we'll get rid of him that easy!

0:39:42 > 0:39:46It's time for a group hug and some words of wisdom from young Mary.

0:39:46 > 0:39:48Cheer up, Timmy.

0:39:53 > 0:39:56- Timothy Ellis, pull yourself together.- Group hug!

0:39:56 > 0:39:58- Team hug.- Team hug.

0:40:00 > 0:40:02At the start of the trial week,

0:40:02 > 0:40:06mum Rebecca arrived in Australia determined she could convince her

0:40:06 > 0:40:12young family and partner Kylie that life would be better down under.

0:40:12 > 0:40:17But being away from loved ones in the UK was always going to be difficult,

0:40:17 > 0:40:22but no-one, even Rebecca, realised how hard this would hit them.

0:40:22 > 0:40:25Now, as the family get ready to return,

0:40:25 > 0:40:30the good news about property and jobs pale into insignificance if

0:40:30 > 0:40:35there is no team, dad Gary or Kylie's mum to share it with.

0:40:35 > 0:40:39So what would you do if it was your family?

0:40:39 > 0:40:41Vote home or away?

0:40:41 > 0:40:45Time to find out what the Ellis Waughs decide.

0:40:48 > 0:40:53Rebecca still believes Australia is best for her active and blossoming family.

0:40:53 > 0:40:57Really difficult to see Kylie upset. Really difficult. I knew she was

0:40:57 > 0:41:00worrying about leaving family behind.

0:41:00 > 0:41:03She has got a really big, close family.

0:41:03 > 0:41:07So it is kind of a massive consideration for her.

0:41:07 > 0:41:10But Kylie is torn between her two families.

0:41:10 > 0:41:14Watching the friends and family videos was probably the hardest part

0:41:14 > 0:41:19of the week. Listening to them saying how much they'd miss us all

0:41:19 > 0:41:23was quite difficult, and seeing my grandma getting quite choked up

0:41:23 > 0:41:24was quite upsetting.

0:41:24 > 0:41:28I think she knows there would be no point making the move if she's just going to be pining for home,

0:41:28 > 0:41:31because if she's not happy then there's no point.

0:41:31 > 0:41:35The children want to keep all three loving parents happy,

0:41:35 > 0:41:40leaving Rebecca full of doubts and fearful of what she's asking of them.

0:41:40 > 0:41:44I think the final vote is really important because it's going to

0:41:44 > 0:41:45affect our lives massively.

0:41:45 > 0:41:49I don't really know now after watching the video

0:41:49 > 0:41:51what I'm going to vote.

0:41:51 > 0:41:53I do think we all have to vote that we want to

0:41:53 > 0:41:58come, because if it's going to be too hard for even one of us I just don't

0:41:58 > 0:41:59think it would work.

0:41:59 > 0:42:02The light is going. It's time to vote.

0:42:02 > 0:42:07At the end of an emotional trial week it's now time to vote.

0:42:15 > 0:42:16Australia!

0:42:18 > 0:42:23The opportunities out here are just absolutely phenomenal.

0:42:23 > 0:42:25I mean, obviously, it's still quite upsetting

0:42:25 > 0:42:27but I want to give it a go.

0:42:27 > 0:42:30I think we'd be crazy not to try it.

0:42:30 > 0:42:34It's OK to have one undecided because whatever we do we're doing it as a team.

0:42:34 > 0:42:35Oldest to youngest.

0:42:37 > 0:42:39- One, two, three.- ALL: Team!

0:42:40 > 0:42:43We've had a good week, haven't we?

0:42:43 > 0:42:44Feeling a bit emotional.

0:42:49 > 0:42:54What an emotional roller-coaster, but in the end Rebecca got nearly all

0:42:54 > 0:42:56her votes.

0:42:56 > 0:43:00Now, it might take some gentle convincing to get Tim on board

0:43:00 > 0:43:03but if dad Gary decides to move out to be with them

0:43:03 > 0:43:06I reckon he'll soon come round.

0:43:06 > 0:43:07However long that may take,

0:43:07 > 0:43:11we wish this adorable family the best of luck

0:43:11 > 0:43:15and, wherever they end up, a very bright and happy future.
