0:00:03 > 0:00:07Kiwi-born Felicity stayed in Britain so that her daughter would grow up here.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11She feels now is the right time for her to return down under.

0:00:11 > 0:00:15I'm just going to try and make it work whatever way I can.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19But daughter Lucy says this is her mum's dream.

0:00:19 > 0:00:20Not hers.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23I want to make her happy, I don't want to make a decision that ruins her life.

0:00:23 > 0:00:28Has Felicity any chance at all persuading steadfast Lucy to leave her dad

0:00:28 > 0:00:29and make her move with Mum?

0:00:29 > 0:00:34Leaving my dad behind, like, even the thought of it just feels awful.

0:00:34 > 0:00:38Just talking about it I feel sad, I feel upset.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42I think if Lucy gave it a big flat no I'd be so disappointed,

0:00:42 > 0:00:46I think that I would be... OK, I'd be devastated.

0:00:46 > 0:00:51Any move to Australia for this single mum could be on a single ticket.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15The world's sixth-largest country,

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Australia accounts for 5% of the world's landmass.

0:01:18 > 0:01:22Stretching for 2,500 miles from East Coast to West.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25But with just over a third of the population of Great Britain,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28there's plenty of room for newcomers.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Drawn by the lure of an outdoor lifestyle,

0:01:30 > 0:01:34and more than 10,000 beaches on which to enjoy it, every day,

0:01:34 > 0:01:4023 families jet off from the UK, hoping to make the country home.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44Single mum Felicity has given the last 20 years of her life to raising

0:01:44 > 0:01:47daughter Lucy in the UK.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Not that she regrets a minute of it,

0:01:49 > 0:01:54as Lucy also has a wonderful relationship with her father.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56But Felicity was born down under,

0:01:56 > 0:02:01and living in the UK was never part of her intended life plan.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Now, with Lucy almost grown up,

0:02:03 > 0:02:08Felicity's desperate to head back home to Oz before it's too late.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12But she can't bear the thought that soul mate Lucy might not come with

0:02:12 > 0:02:17her. She has a week to convince Lucy hers is a dream they can share.

0:02:17 > 0:02:22At the end, Lucy will have to vote on where her future lies -

0:02:22 > 0:02:26a decision that will leave Felicity happy or heartbroken.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30To get to Australia from the UK,

0:02:30 > 0:02:34mum and daughter have spent over 22 hours in the air,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36but Lucy's taken it in her stride.

0:02:39 > 0:02:40I quite liked that flight, actually.

0:02:40 > 0:02:44Cos normally we go to New Zealand and that's a lot longer.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47It's been many years since Felicity last set foot in Brisbane.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49So it's exciting.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53It's a bit of fear as well but it's exciting more than anything, yeah.

0:02:53 > 0:02:57Lucy's only visited Australia once before when she was very young.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01Being here kind of gives me a chance to see what Mum's always talking

0:03:01 > 0:03:04about, to see if it actually lives up to the hype.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07The long journey's given Felicity plenty of opportunity for

0:03:07 > 0:03:12- thinking.- It's a lot of time just to reflect on what I need to do here

0:03:12 > 0:03:15and what I'm hoping to get from being here as well.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18I'm quite nervous about the week ahead because there's that part of

0:03:18 > 0:03:23me that thinks, what if I really like it here then I choose to live here then

0:03:23 > 0:03:27I have to leave everyone behind? I'm feeling quite conflicted at the moment.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Mum's also got no illusions about what's at stake.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32Really important week for me.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34Feeling the pressure.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37This is your dream and I don't want to crush that and I have that

0:03:37 > 0:03:40feeling on my shoulders, it's quite heavy.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43This is just the opportunity for me to see if I can do it,

0:03:43 > 0:03:46how I can do it, how I would do it.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48Yeah, just have to convince my daughter.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50Yup. Pretty much.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55Felicity's got just seven days to find out and persuade Lucy

0:03:55 > 0:03:58their future lies on the other side of the world.

0:04:03 > 0:04:08Meet the Cooks - mum Felicity and daughter Lucy, who's 17.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11They live in Surrey in the southeast of England.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13Felicity was born in New Zealand,

0:04:13 > 0:04:18and, at the same age as a Lucy is now, decided it was time to spread her wings.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22The New Zealand I come from - a small suburb beach area,

0:04:22 > 0:04:26and I look back now as an adult and I think, yeah, it's beautiful.

0:04:26 > 0:04:30But I was ready for something bigger.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33She found what she was looking for in Australia.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36I spent ten years in Sydney, sowed my wild oats,

0:04:36 > 0:04:40for want of a better way of saying it, had a great lifestyle.

0:04:43 > 0:04:48I got more into the spiritual side of things,

0:04:48 > 0:04:49meditation,

0:04:49 > 0:04:52started to study naturopathy,

0:04:52 > 0:04:56traditional Chinese medicine, massage,

0:04:56 > 0:04:59and that was at a time and it wasn't such a big thing so I was considered

0:04:59 > 0:05:04a bit, by my family and other people, a space cadet.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07But Felicity was serious about her lifestyle,

0:05:07 > 0:05:11and decided to become a Buddhist and found herself heading for the other

0:05:11 > 0:05:12side of the world.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15There was an opportunity to come to the UK and work in the office at the

0:05:15 > 0:05:18Amaravati monastery.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23I always knew I'd come to England and do some travel or do something

0:05:23 > 0:05:26so it was sort of like putting it all together.

0:05:26 > 0:05:31The plan had been to stay just for a few years but then Lucy came along

0:05:31 > 0:05:32and everything changed.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36I met Lucy's dad in the UK,

0:05:36 > 0:05:39unfortunately we split up when Lucy was quite young.

0:05:40 > 0:05:45I made the decision to stay in the UK cos I feel that every child should

0:05:45 > 0:05:48have the support of both parents if that's possible.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51But it wasn't an easy choice.

0:05:51 > 0:05:55At the time it was a very difficult decision to make cos I've got a big family back in New Zealand.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00It's a sacrifice Lucy's come to appreciate as she's grown up.

0:06:00 > 0:06:04My relationship with my dad is so important and such a key part of my

0:06:04 > 0:06:07life, I'm really grateful that you made that decision.

0:06:07 > 0:06:12Felicity has no regrets about the choices she's made but, nearly 20 years on,

0:06:12 > 0:06:15her antipodean roots still have a firm hold.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18I love Australia I guess cos it's bigger,

0:06:18 > 0:06:22there's a lot more going on and I think now that Lucy's 18

0:06:22 > 0:06:27or coming up 18 that it might be a country where she can have a lot more opportunities.

0:06:27 > 0:06:31It's not just the Aussie lifestyle drawing Felicity back.

0:06:31 > 0:06:35Over the years, she's felt the separation from her own family down under.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38Simply, she misses them.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40I'm very close with my sisters,

0:06:40 > 0:06:45they meet up for sister time and I see it on social media and I'm thinking,

0:06:45 > 0:06:47oh, what about me? I'm one of the sisters.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50So I do miss it.

0:06:50 > 0:06:54On the downside, moving closer to Felicity's family would mean Lucy

0:06:54 > 0:06:56leaving her dad.

0:06:56 > 0:07:00Leaving my dad behind, even the thought of it just feels awful.

0:07:00 > 0:07:03Lucy agrees to at least give it a go.

0:07:05 > 0:07:07No, that's fine, that's grand.

0:07:07 > 0:07:12I'm willing to give Australia a trial because of Mum,

0:07:12 > 0:07:18because she was willing to put herself second and stay here to help my relationship with my dad grow.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20I think doing this will help her to make her mind up,

0:07:20 > 0:07:22it'll help her say, yeah, definitely,

0:07:22 > 0:07:25I want to try this, or maybe I want to try this or she's going to say

0:07:25 > 0:07:27flatly, no, I don't want to do this.

0:07:27 > 0:07:33This trial week will finally bring an end to the "will we/won't we?"

0:07:33 > 0:07:34- Will we, won't we?- Yeah.

0:07:34 > 0:07:36What if it's a no?

0:07:36 > 0:07:38I think if Lucy doesn't want to go,

0:07:38 > 0:07:42then I'd have some very hard questions to ask myself.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44There's a lot riding on the week ahead.

0:07:44 > 0:07:49It's my shot of looking at getting back, definitely, this is it, I'm going for it.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57For their trial week, Felicity and Lucy are staying

0:07:57 > 0:07:59in a three-bedroom new build in Brisbane's

0:07:59 > 0:08:01inner-city suburb of Hamilton.

0:08:01 > 0:08:05Location-wise, it couldn't be closer to all the facilities mum and daughter

0:08:05 > 0:08:11might want. The airport, city centre, the river, all just a few miles away.

0:08:11 > 0:08:15- Feel that sun.- It is nice, isn't it?

0:08:15 > 0:08:17It's really nice. I really like it!

0:08:17 > 0:08:21- I know!- I can see myself living here, 100%.

0:08:21 > 0:08:22Oh, it's nice, this looks really big.

0:08:22 > 0:08:26Not even through the front door and it looks like Lucy's already sold.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28Oh, I like this, this is lovely.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32- Yes.- So bright as well.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Yeah. I think we should just move in.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36- This is it.- I think so, yeah. This is it.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39- We're done.- Well, that was easy.

0:08:39 > 0:08:44As they unpack, Lucy can see just how delighted Mum is to be back in Australia.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46# I'm so excited. #

0:08:46 > 0:08:48Please don't start singing!

0:08:51 > 0:08:54On a scale of one to ten, how excited are you?

0:08:54 > 0:08:55100.

0:08:57 > 0:09:01It's not long before the reality of the week ahead starts to sink in.

0:09:01 > 0:09:02It's like crunch time.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05I'm a bit worried as to how it's going to...

0:09:05 > 0:09:09It could change my opinion about living in England.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11- Oh, OK.- Yeah.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14I think I need some flip-flops.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17Yeah. We could do a little flip-flop shop.

0:09:17 > 0:09:21They're called thongs down under, Lucy, but you weren't to know -

0:09:21 > 0:09:23there's still a lot to find out.

0:09:23 > 0:09:27You've got seven days to discover if this is the place for you and your

0:09:27 > 0:09:30- mum.- Think this week I've got to be persuaded that Australia offers the

0:09:30 > 0:09:36same or more as England because what I've got at home is so important to

0:09:36 > 0:09:37me and I don't want to lose that.

0:09:37 > 0:09:42If Lucy decides that she doesn't want to come here and it's a really

0:09:42 > 0:09:44flat no, it would upset me the most.

0:09:44 > 0:09:50Cos I've always wanted to be in a reasonable distance to wherever Lucy is...

0:09:52 > 0:09:55..and not the other side of the world.

0:10:00 > 0:10:04Back in the UK, the Cooks live in a rented two-bedroom semi in Surrey -

0:10:04 > 0:10:07they've been there for ten years and love it.

0:10:07 > 0:10:11It has got a nice little back garden, off-street parking.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13It's a bit small, though, isn't it?

0:10:13 > 0:10:18Oh, it is a bit small but we've lived here for ten years so we made it really nice.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20Location-wise, it's perfect.

0:10:21 > 0:10:24Where we live Surrey is beautiful.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26Yeah, Surrey's like the perfect place to live.

0:10:26 > 0:10:29Yes, they've become very attached to their home.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32I'd find it quite emotional leaving this house, it'd be quite hard

0:10:32 > 0:10:33and also there are good memories here.

0:10:33 > 0:10:39The two will be renting if they make the move with a budget of £1,200 per calendar month.

0:10:39 > 0:10:41So what's their perfect home down under?

0:10:41 > 0:10:44Lots of light, lots of air,

0:10:44 > 0:10:48one of those lovely beautiful outdoor areas that come furnished with the lounge equipment

0:10:48 > 0:10:52and I'd like to have at least three bedrooms, maybe four bedrooms.

0:10:52 > 0:10:57- Yeah. Yeah. - Separate dining room and a kitchen where I can have a kitchen table.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59Yeah, I think finding the right property would be a key.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01- Key, definitely.- Yeah.

0:11:01 > 0:11:03You would need to go to something equivalent or better.

0:11:09 > 0:11:13To find out what £1,200 per month could get them around Brisbane,

0:11:13 > 0:11:17we've lined up three houses - two close to their budget,

0:11:17 > 0:11:20and one that might be their dream home.

0:11:21 > 0:11:25I feel like it might be a bit far out for someone like me if I want to go out with friends.

0:11:25 > 0:11:28Might be a bit far out for someone like ME!

0:11:28 > 0:11:32- Really?- The search begins in the leafy city suburb of Moggill.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34Less than 30 minutes out of Brisbane,

0:11:34 > 0:11:38this three-bedroom new build has a country feel yet the city on its

0:11:38 > 0:11:41doorstep. Open plan is a must for the Cooks,

0:11:41 > 0:11:44so surely this space will be to their liking.

0:11:44 > 0:11:46- Oh, it's really open plan. - Yeah, nice and light.

0:11:46 > 0:11:52It would be nice, though, cos I can sit here doing work and you can cook my dinner.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54- Yeah. That's fine.- And we can talk.

0:11:54 > 0:11:57It's a good-size kitchen, bigger than the one at home.

0:11:57 > 0:11:58Yeah. Well, a lot bigger.

0:11:59 > 0:12:03- Yeah.- Big cooker, get a whole pig in there.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07Then it's off to find the bedrooms.

0:12:07 > 0:12:09- First bedroom?- Yeah.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11Not so sure.

0:12:11 > 0:12:12Yeah. No, same feeling.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15If this has the en suite, it's my room.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17You can have this room, Mum, that's fine.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21- Oh, it's nice!- It is quite nice, actually.

0:12:21 > 0:12:23- Yeah.- That's a good-size shower.

0:12:23 > 0:12:25Yeah, I like this bathroom.

0:12:25 > 0:12:27Looks like Lucy might be warming to it.

0:12:27 > 0:12:30- Oh! Walk-in wardrobe. - Yeah, you're in my room now.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33- OK.- I can imagine myself and all my clothes out.

0:12:33 > 0:12:35The second bedroom impresses, too.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37I think I could have this room, definitely.

0:12:37 > 0:12:41- Yeah, OK.- I'll let you have the other one, that's fine.- Deal, done.

0:12:41 > 0:12:45Done deal, but wait, there's another bedroom!

0:12:45 > 0:12:48- Guest bedroom, where all my friends come and stay.- Yeah, oh, yeah.

0:12:48 > 0:12:52Time for some hard selling from Felicity.

0:12:52 > 0:12:54You can have your en suite and I'd have this bathroom.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57Yes. And your friends visiting from the UK.

0:12:57 > 0:12:59Of course, yeah.

0:12:59 > 0:13:03Inside, very much a thumbs up. What about the outside?

0:13:03 > 0:13:04- It's nice out here.- Yeah.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07I could see ourselves having breakfast out here, definitely.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10- Breakfast.- Lunch and dinner.

0:13:10 > 0:13:15So this place is almost perfect for the pair but can they afford it?

0:13:15 > 0:13:16So what do you think of the house?

0:13:16 > 0:13:19- I really like it.- Think it's a bit far out, though.

0:13:19 > 0:13:23- Yeah. There is that. - How much?- Oh, I don't know.

0:13:23 > 0:13:27I think it's going to be 1,400.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30I was thinking that, too.

0:13:30 > 0:13:32Their budget, £1,200 a month.

0:13:32 > 0:13:37- Ready for this? - Yeah.- Oh, wow!

0:13:37 > 0:13:39£1,150 a month.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42Wow! That is such a surprise!

0:13:42 > 0:13:45- Gosh.- That's all right, actually - that makes me feel quite happy.

0:13:45 > 0:13:48- You'd be coming over?- Maybe.

0:13:48 > 0:13:52With things off to a positive start, it's time to move to property two.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56It's back towards Brisbane and the inner-city suburb of Paddington.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05I'm excited!

0:14:07 > 0:14:10And once through the door, they remain cautiously upbeat.

0:14:13 > 0:14:14- Oh!- It's nice.

0:14:14 > 0:14:17- I quite like it.- I love it.

0:14:17 > 0:14:18Well, it's a lot of space.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20It is, actually - it's quite long, isn't it?

0:14:20 > 0:14:23Yeah. A traditional style of house.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26I prefer having the hallway. It's nice to have somewhere for your

0:14:26 > 0:14:29shoes but I think it's all right, it's an OK compromise to have.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32Oh! It's a nice surprise.

0:14:32 > 0:14:34I don't know, I don't know if I like this kitchen.

0:14:34 > 0:14:39- It's quite dark.- But, uh-oh, split opinions on the kitchen.

0:14:39 > 0:14:41I think upstairs is a bit better.

0:14:41 > 0:14:43All right. Oh, I really like downstairs.

0:14:43 > 0:14:47Upstairs next and you can tell Lucy is getting more and more downbeat

0:14:47 > 0:14:49about this property.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52I think it's smaller than what I was expecting, but it's still a good size.

0:14:52 > 0:14:54- Yeah.- Not so sure about the red.

0:14:54 > 0:14:56I really like the colour scheme.

0:14:56 > 0:14:58- I know you're going to like the colour scheme.- I do like it.

0:14:58 > 0:15:00This can be your room, then.

0:15:00 > 0:15:01If you like the red, you can have it.

0:15:01 > 0:15:03- Thank you, darling.- That's OK.

0:15:03 > 0:15:05Bedroom number two.

0:15:06 > 0:15:09I don't know, not really getting a good vibe from it.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11Getting the feeling that it's not really your style.

0:15:11 > 0:15:12Yeah.

0:15:14 > 0:15:18- OK.- But the bathroom is a game-changer.

0:15:18 > 0:15:19Look at this! This is nice.

0:15:19 > 0:15:22- This is like my dream bathroom. - Is it?- With the bathtub.

0:15:22 > 0:15:23Think this makes up for the rest of it.

0:15:23 > 0:15:27I'll just move in here, that's fine. This can be my room.

0:15:27 > 0:15:28Might be a bit uncomfortable for you, darling.

0:15:28 > 0:15:32- Yeah, I think so.- Changing minds with this one.

0:15:32 > 0:15:34Outside could be the decider.

0:15:35 > 0:15:37- Nice.- It's really nice out here.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40Yeah. Wasn't expecting a garden for so close to the city.

0:15:40 > 0:15:42Yeah. It's really lovely, actually.

0:15:42 > 0:15:44It's quite simple but you could do a lot with it.

0:15:44 > 0:15:46Yeah, I can imagine us sitting out here in summer, just sunbathing.

0:15:46 > 0:15:48Really nice, yeah.

0:15:48 > 0:15:51And a barbecue. I think the garden is better than the house.

0:15:52 > 0:15:57- OK?- Yeah, but that's cos I don't really like the house that much.- OK.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00So mixed feelings, and could they even afford it?

0:16:00 > 0:16:02So what do you think?

0:16:03 > 0:16:06I think it's going to be about 1,600.

0:16:06 > 0:16:10Yeah, I'd say 1,600, 1,500 maybe.

0:16:10 > 0:16:12- OK.- Yeah. We'll find out.

0:16:12 > 0:16:16- All right.- Remember, their budget is £1,200 per month.

0:16:20 > 0:16:24- Wow!- £1,280 per month.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26- I wasn't expecting that.- Me neither, actually!

0:16:26 > 0:16:29I thought it'd be a lot more because of the location.

0:16:29 > 0:16:33Yeah! That's good but I still wouldn't pay that for a house I don't really like.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35I know what you mean.

0:16:35 > 0:16:38But I think now that gives me a good idea of what our money can get us.

0:16:38 > 0:16:42Expectations may well have been lowered but there's still the dream

0:16:42 > 0:16:43property to see.

0:16:43 > 0:16:47It's ten minutes away in the leafy inner suburb of Bardon.

0:16:47 > 0:16:51A popular residential area with all the cafe-society comforts

0:16:51 > 0:16:55this mum and daughter could want. Might here deliver the full package?

0:16:57 > 0:16:59- Oh, wow. This is nice. - It's so nice.

0:16:59 > 0:17:01It is, this one.

0:17:01 > 0:17:07- Proper look.- Looking forward to this one.- Me, too.- It's gorgeous. - Really lovely.

0:17:09 > 0:17:11- Wow!- Oh, my!

0:17:12 > 0:17:14- This is...- What do you say about this?

0:17:14 > 0:17:16- Wow!- Very open.

0:17:16 > 0:17:21Lucy's already picturing herself at home - a good sign.

0:17:21 > 0:17:24I can just picture me like lying on the sofa, you in the kitchen.

0:17:24 > 0:17:29- Cooking.- Yeah.- Oh, look at the big sliding door.

0:17:29 > 0:17:31Yeah, it's beautiful.

0:17:31 > 0:17:33- Made for us. - I could see us living here.

0:17:33 > 0:17:36- So could I.- Really nice.- Yeah.

0:17:36 > 0:17:40Can Felicity dare to hope this home might seduce Lucy to move?

0:17:40 > 0:17:43When they see the kitchen, perhaps she can.

0:17:43 > 0:17:44Oh. Nice kitchen.

0:17:44 > 0:17:48Yeah, dream kitchen. Definitely. Lovely.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50- Have a look?- Yeah, might as well.

0:17:50 > 0:17:54And an unexpected downstairs bedroom hits the right notes with Lucy, too.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57This is so big.

0:17:57 > 0:17:59Perfect room for you.

0:17:59 > 0:18:03- Yeah!- Lounge, sitting in here with friends.- Actually, yeah, I just close myself off.

0:18:03 > 0:18:05You wouldn't see me for days.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08- Oh, it's perfect.- I really like it.

0:18:08 > 0:18:09I know! Let's move tomorrow.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12- Yeah.- Yeah?- Maybe.

0:18:13 > 0:18:16Could they be on the same page at last?

0:18:19 > 0:18:21- Bedroom number two. - Oh, this is sweet.

0:18:21 > 0:18:22It is lovely, isn't it?

0:18:22 > 0:18:25This would be nice for a guest coming over.

0:18:25 > 0:18:27- Yeah.- Nice-size room.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29- Yeah, really lovely. - Bedroom number three.

0:18:29 > 0:18:31- Got another one.- Oh, wow!

0:18:31 > 0:18:33- Never ending.- They're actually good-sized rooms.

0:18:33 > 0:18:35- They are.- Oh, it's nice.

0:18:35 > 0:18:39- Yeah.- Oh, this is bedroom number three.

0:18:39 > 0:18:40- No four!- Four!

0:18:40 > 0:18:42- You're losing track! - You're right, yeah.

0:18:42 > 0:18:44- It's really nice.- This is nice, this is my room.

0:18:44 > 0:18:47- I knew you were going to say that! - Yeah, and it's beautiful.

0:18:47 > 0:18:48It's really lovely.

0:18:48 > 0:18:51- Can you see yourself sleeping in here?- I could, definitely.

0:18:51 > 0:18:53I'm surprised there are so many rooms.

0:18:53 > 0:18:56- Yeah, brilliant.- I think that is a factor that could persuade me.

0:18:56 > 0:18:57I think so, definitely.

0:18:57 > 0:18:59- Yeah.- So is it a yes?

0:18:59 > 0:19:02Not just yet, wait!

0:19:02 > 0:19:05Too soon, Felicity, too soon.

0:19:05 > 0:19:07- It's nice. En-suite bathroom. - Yeah, it is nice.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10- It is a good size for me. - It is good.- Doesn't need to be big.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12I mean it's pretty big, Mum.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14Think this'll do me very well.

0:19:14 > 0:19:15And me.

0:19:15 > 0:19:19- Sharing.- Of course.

0:19:19 > 0:19:22And once outside, the superlatives keep coming.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26The garden's quite small.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28And compared to the house, cos it's such a big house.

0:19:28 > 0:19:31I quite like it. Think it works really well.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34- Yeah, I like it a lot. - Yeah, me, too.

0:19:34 > 0:19:37- I'd love to live here. - Yeah, definitely a dream.

0:19:37 > 0:19:40Pretty nice house.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43Both are smitten. But can they afford it?

0:19:44 > 0:19:46- So what do you think?- I love it.

0:19:47 > 0:19:49- This one has everything. - It does, it does.

0:19:49 > 0:19:52- I think that might reflect on the price.- Yeah.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55I think I'm going to go for 2,500.

0:19:55 > 0:19:57Oh! I think this was going to be about...

0:19:59 > 0:20:00- ..1,800.- 1,800?

0:20:01 > 0:20:02OK.

0:20:06 > 0:20:08- Ready?- Yeah! Not really.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12Oh! Look at that!

0:20:12 > 0:20:15- 1,600 a month. - That's actually...

0:20:15 > 0:20:16Not actually too bad.

0:20:16 > 0:20:19- I mean, that's over budget but that's...- It is. Yeah.

0:20:19 > 0:20:22- I still couldn't afford it. - Yeah, we still couldn't afford it

0:20:22 > 0:20:25- but it's nice to think that one day we could do maybe.- Yeah.

0:20:25 > 0:20:30If I get a good job I could afford this, don't worry. I got you.

0:20:32 > 0:20:36It's been a mainly positive day on the property front.

0:20:36 > 0:20:38House number one they liked very much.

0:20:38 > 0:20:41The three bedrooms would give them the room for visitors

0:20:41 > 0:20:44and Felicity loved the open-plan living space.

0:20:44 > 0:20:46The garden was a bit of a let down,

0:20:46 > 0:20:50but the property coming in at £50 a month under budget raised spirits

0:20:50 > 0:20:55again. House number two had a better location, being closer to Brisbane,

0:20:55 > 0:20:59but while it reminded Felicity of childhood homes in New Zealand,

0:20:59 > 0:21:03Lucy wasn't taken with the layout or decor and certainly wasn't impressed

0:21:03 > 0:21:06with the rent being more than their budget.

0:21:06 > 0:21:10House number three was the dream home and, boy, did it deliver!

0:21:10 > 0:21:15Both Lucy and Felicity adored the open-plan kitchen and the four bedrooms,

0:21:15 > 0:21:18but the rent was well out of their league and Lucy soon brought

0:21:18 > 0:21:20things back to earth with a bump.

0:21:20 > 0:21:24So when it comes to the vote, will it be home or away?

0:21:24 > 0:21:27After an informative property day today, it's time to vote.

0:21:33 > 0:21:37- Australia!- UK!

0:21:37 > 0:21:38Why did you go with Australia?

0:21:38 > 0:21:41Well, because I want to live here.

0:21:41 > 0:21:44And what about you? Why did you decide UK?

0:21:44 > 0:21:47Just because where we live right now gives us everything we want.

0:21:47 > 0:21:49- I know it does.- I love where we live, I love the location.

0:21:49 > 0:21:52- Yeah.- So I don't really see the point of making such a long move.

0:21:52 > 0:21:58I agree with that but I'm sort of thinking that it might be more out there that we haven't yet seen.

0:21:58 > 0:22:00- Yeah.- Yeah.

0:22:00 > 0:22:01So I want to keep my options open.

0:22:06 > 0:22:09Mixed reactions to the property day means Felicity's dream has yet to

0:22:09 > 0:22:11get out of the starting blocks.

0:22:11 > 0:22:17So finding the right work opportunity down under becomes more crucial than ever.

0:22:17 > 0:22:20Back in the UK, Felicity is a social worker.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22Having a background in nursing and homoeopathy,

0:22:22 > 0:22:25she feels she's a very good fit.

0:22:25 > 0:22:28I enjoy assessing people,

0:22:28 > 0:22:32going out and listening to what their stories are,

0:22:32 > 0:22:36what their health concerns are, how they're managing at home.

0:22:36 > 0:22:41And I've drawn on my skills that I've learned through the years so when

0:22:41 > 0:22:45I'm out assessing people I bring to the fore my holistic skills

0:22:45 > 0:22:51and I feel that helps me in being able to provide a good service.

0:22:51 > 0:22:55Here's hoping her experience can open doors for her in Australia.

0:22:55 > 0:22:59I've got a great skill set and I'm looking for other ways that I can

0:22:59 > 0:23:04- employ those.- Giving up a secure job in the UK would be a huge risk.

0:23:05 > 0:23:10It's quite a big consideration for me given my age and my biggest fear

0:23:10 > 0:23:16is that I'm not going to get paid a great salary, I am a single mum, I'd be

0:23:16 > 0:23:20having to move from part-time work to full-time work to support Lucy

0:23:20 > 0:23:25to get through university and the lifestyle that we have here is good

0:23:25 > 0:23:27and I would want just as good or better.

0:23:29 > 0:23:33To find out what work she could get, we've arranged for her to visit

0:23:33 > 0:23:36an organisation dealing with social work in Brisbane.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39- Hi, I'm Carly. How are you? - Hi, Felicity.

0:23:39 > 0:23:42Felicity gets the lowdown on what the not-for-profit

0:23:42 > 0:23:43Life Without Barriers does.

0:23:43 > 0:23:48It's a big organisation with over 12,000 clients and 4,000 staff.

0:23:48 > 0:23:52There would definitely be some transferable skills based

0:23:52 > 0:23:55on what you are doing in your current role with adults.

0:23:55 > 0:23:59Perhaps something for you to consider would be to look at a three-year diploma.

0:23:59 > 0:24:02I think looking at something like that could certainly broaden

0:24:02 > 0:24:06your experience and may potentially bump you up into a higher bracket.

0:24:06 > 0:24:08Definitely worth considering.

0:24:08 > 0:24:11If I were able to find employment in Australia,

0:24:11 > 0:24:14what could my potential earnings be?

0:24:14 > 0:24:15So based on your current experience,

0:24:15 > 0:24:20and your current diploma I think you'd probably be looking at around £29,000.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24If you were looking at doing the additional three-year diploma then you

0:24:24 > 0:24:27would probably be looking at around £31,000.

0:24:27 > 0:24:28Oh, that's exciting.

0:24:28 > 0:24:31That's considerably more than she earns at the moment.

0:24:33 > 0:24:36Based on my work experience, would I be able to find work here?

0:24:36 > 0:24:40This kind of support-worker role does come up.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43I think potentially, yes, we would have a position for you.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46- Oh, that's really exciting. - It's a positive result for Felicity,

0:24:46 > 0:24:50being able to earn more money means a move could be a viable option.

0:24:52 > 0:24:55So when it comes to work in Australia, how will she vote?

0:24:55 > 0:24:57Home or away?

0:24:58 > 0:25:00After today's workday it's time for me to vote.

0:25:02 > 0:25:04Australia!

0:25:05 > 0:25:07It was a very positive outcome for me,

0:25:07 > 0:25:12it's important that I can secure a job to make it a financially viable

0:25:12 > 0:25:14move to come to Australia.

0:25:14 > 0:25:17And today's day was really great news.

0:25:17 > 0:25:21But it will come to nothing if Lucy's not on board.

0:25:21 > 0:25:24Back in the UK, she's still in full-time education.

0:25:25 > 0:25:28At the moment I'm studying my ASs

0:25:28 > 0:25:30so I'm thinking of studying accountancy and

0:25:30 > 0:25:34I'm in the process of looking at different universities that offer that.

0:25:34 > 0:25:39I want to be quite successful and I think university is the next step in

0:25:39 > 0:25:43the right direction. I think Australia would need to offer

0:25:43 > 0:25:47at the very least the same as what England offers for me to want to move.

0:25:47 > 0:25:51To give her an idea of what Oz could offer, we arranged a trip to the top

0:25:51 > 0:25:56uni QUT, where she meets two senior members from the school of accountancy -

0:25:56 > 0:25:59Peter Green and Sherena Buckley.

0:25:59 > 0:26:01This is a large uni -

0:26:01 > 0:26:0648,000 students and a massive campus right in the heart of Brisbane.

0:26:06 > 0:26:09After a quick look around, Lucy has plenty of questions.

0:26:10 > 0:26:13Are my UK qualifications transferable over here?

0:26:13 > 0:26:18Most definitely, Lucy, there are mechanisms here at the university

0:26:18 > 0:26:20which can take your school qualifications

0:26:20 > 0:26:26and work out their equivalency here in Australia for entry purposes to the QUT.

0:26:26 > 0:26:29How hard is it to get a job after leaving QUT?

0:26:29 > 0:26:33Our graduate destination statistics tell us that within three months of

0:26:33 > 0:26:38graduating, approximately 75% of our graduates are employed

0:26:38 > 0:26:41and then certainly within 12 months 100% are employed.

0:26:41 > 0:26:45That's really good. Thank you for talking to me, I really appreciate it.

0:26:45 > 0:26:48Next up, Lucy gets the inside info from three undergrads - Kaitlyn,

0:26:48 > 0:26:50Veronica, and Georgie.

0:26:50 > 0:26:52What's work load like? Is there time for a social life?

0:26:52 > 0:26:54There's definitely time to have a social life.

0:26:54 > 0:26:56The timetable is quite flexible.

0:26:56 > 0:26:59What's actually on offer here in Brisbane? What is there to do?

0:26:59 > 0:27:00We're on the train line,

0:27:00 > 0:27:03people often get trains down to the Gold Coast or you can walk into

0:27:03 > 0:27:06the city to shop which is really good.

0:27:06 > 0:27:09Now that you've been here for a few years do you feel like you've made the right decision?

0:27:09 > 0:27:11I remember when I just started at QUT,

0:27:11 > 0:27:15I honestly had no confidence, but five years on

0:27:15 > 0:27:18I really feel capable to finish the degree

0:27:18 > 0:27:20and get into the workforce.

0:27:20 > 0:27:23For once, it's been a good day for both of them.

0:27:23 > 0:27:25Mum's keen to find out how Lucy got on.

0:27:25 > 0:27:29Hi! How'd your day at the university go today?

0:27:29 > 0:27:31- You'll be happy to hear, really, really, really well.- Oh, great.

0:27:31 > 0:27:34So I got to meet people who work here and see the more

0:27:34 > 0:27:37professional side and also see more of the social side.

0:27:37 > 0:27:39Did it meet expectations, do you think?

0:27:39 > 0:27:42- It was better than expectations. - That's good to hear.

0:27:42 > 0:27:43So how did your day go?

0:27:43 > 0:27:45Very positive, great outcome.

0:27:45 > 0:27:48Salary rise, earning more money.

0:27:48 > 0:27:50Could you see yourself coming to the university?

0:27:50 > 0:27:53I think so, I could do. Yeah, yeah.

0:27:53 > 0:27:57- So it sounds like we both had a really positive day.- Yeah, yeah.

0:28:00 > 0:28:05Halfway through the week, and it's not clear how these two will vote.

0:28:05 > 0:28:08Mum and daughter, usually so close,

0:28:08 > 0:28:13to be at odds with each other is both new and troubling.

0:28:13 > 0:28:17There's still the all-important financial reality check and messages

0:28:17 > 0:28:24from home to come and Felicity knows Lucy's dad back in the UK could change everything.

0:28:24 > 0:28:25First, though,

0:28:25 > 0:28:28it's time for the two of them to enjoy a day out in the city -

0:28:28 > 0:28:33they're off to a farmers' market to sample Brisbane's delights.

0:28:33 > 0:28:37The sights and smells of the local market is a timely reminder of why

0:28:37 > 0:28:39Felicity wants to move.

0:28:39 > 0:28:40- The thing is...- Yeah?

0:28:40 > 0:28:43That maybe we live here and life is just one big holiday.

0:28:44 > 0:28:47Maybe. Maybe you're right.

0:28:47 > 0:28:50This is the kind of thing she could see them both doing.

0:28:50 > 0:28:54To come to the markets like this in what is verging going into winter

0:28:54 > 0:28:58and the blue sky and the smells and the colours, you know,

0:28:58 > 0:29:00it's just what I really enjoy doing.

0:29:00 > 0:29:02I love it.

0:29:02 > 0:29:06- This looks good, doesn't it? - Yeah.- Good morning, ladies. Can I help you?- Hi.- Hello.

0:29:06 > 0:29:08Just having a look.

0:29:08 > 0:29:10It's got a bit of a kick, but it's really nice.

0:29:10 > 0:29:13Spicy. I really value spending time with Lucy,

0:29:13 > 0:29:16particularly as she is getting a bit older and wants to be out with her

0:29:16 > 0:29:20mates, so doing something like this I can see would be a great thing for

0:29:20 > 0:29:23mum and daughter to do.

0:29:23 > 0:29:26Next up, time to make a few memories along the Brisbane River.

0:29:29 > 0:29:31It is beautiful, though, isn't it?

0:29:31 > 0:29:34Stunning. Do you think you could see yourself living here?

0:29:34 > 0:29:38- I think so.- Felicity seizes the moment.

0:29:38 > 0:29:40You have lots of things to tell your friends and we get back.

0:29:40 > 0:29:43Yeah, I think I have a lot of things to think about, as well.

0:29:43 > 0:29:47- We're talking like we're already moving out here! - I know, it's good, isn't it?

0:29:47 > 0:29:52- Yeah.- There's a lot to consider, you've got to weigh up the pros and cons.

0:29:52 > 0:29:55A step at a time, Felicity, a step at a time.

0:29:55 > 0:29:57But all good as the day rounds off with a treat.

0:29:57 > 0:30:00- The koalas. - Yeah. The only reason I'm here!

0:30:01 > 0:30:03Oh, look at you posing.

0:30:03 > 0:30:05Aren't you beautiful?

0:30:05 > 0:30:07I quite enjoyed being outside.

0:30:07 > 0:30:10Being able to spend time with Mum, like, quality time,

0:30:10 > 0:30:12not just sitting in the house cooking dinner together,

0:30:12 > 0:30:16it's just nice to do something different like when I realised that

0:30:16 > 0:30:18that's what our life could be like if we moved here.

0:30:20 > 0:30:25After a 20-year gap, Felicity has no doubts where her future lies...

0:30:25 > 0:30:28It is just such a relaxed way of living, it's very open,

0:30:28 > 0:30:33people are very friendly and this is where I would like to resettle and

0:30:33 > 0:30:34make a home.

0:30:34 > 0:30:38..while Lucy's happy for her mum, but feeling the pressure.

0:30:42 > 0:30:45She's been talking to me about how much she's been enjoying it and I

0:30:45 > 0:30:47think it's really lovely to see that. I want to make her happy,

0:30:47 > 0:30:50I don't want to make a decision that ruins her life.

0:30:50 > 0:30:53It's quite a difficult thing to be aware of and I don't want to make a

0:30:53 > 0:30:58decision that works for her, but then doesn't work for me and that just creates resentment.

0:30:58 > 0:31:01I think if Lucy gave it a big flat no, I'd be so disappointed.

0:31:01 > 0:31:06I think that I'd be... I'd be devastated.

0:31:06 > 0:31:07Yeah, I'd find that tough.

0:31:07 > 0:31:09I can't even think about it at the moment.

0:31:09 > 0:31:11I'm just taking it day by day,

0:31:11 > 0:31:13cos I think if I try and think about that far,

0:31:13 > 0:31:16it's just too much for me to handle.

0:31:16 > 0:31:18Don't - you're going to make me cry now.

0:31:18 > 0:31:22Lucy has seen what Oz has to offer, but will it be enough?

0:31:22 > 0:31:26Felicity needs an Oz vote from Lucy to keep her dream alive.

0:31:27 > 0:31:30After an exciting leisure day, it's now time to vote.

0:31:34 > 0:31:35- BOTH:- Australia!

0:31:36 > 0:31:38We did the same for once.

0:31:38 > 0:31:39- I know!- Yeah.

0:31:39 > 0:31:44Right, has it given you a nudge towards Australia, ticked a few more boxes?

0:31:44 > 0:31:46- I think so.- Yeah.

0:31:46 > 0:31:49Yeah, it has been a move in your direction.

0:31:49 > 0:31:51I wouldn't say the right direction...

0:31:51 > 0:31:52- Oh, "my" direction?- Yeah.

0:31:52 > 0:31:54I don't really know what the right way is yet.

0:31:54 > 0:31:57It's been a really, really lovely day that we had together.

0:31:57 > 0:32:00- Yeah.- Yeah.

0:32:00 > 0:32:01- Ready to go?- Yeah.

0:32:01 > 0:32:04Well, not really ready to go - I don't really want to leave, but you know.

0:32:04 > 0:32:07But as the excitement of the day starts to fade,

0:32:07 > 0:32:10a call from her dad brings Lucy back to reality,

0:32:10 > 0:32:13reminding her of the dilemma she faces.

0:32:13 > 0:32:16So, have you missed me?

0:32:16 > 0:32:18I have.

0:32:18 > 0:32:20It's only been, what, less than a week?

0:32:20 > 0:32:24I don't know, the long flight made me realise how far away everyone is

0:32:24 > 0:32:28- and how far away you are. - Yeah. Oh, I'm feeling that.

0:32:28 > 0:32:31I'm really starting to feel it in my chest.

0:32:31 > 0:32:35- Aww!- Lucy's vote for Oz is a big step in the right direction for

0:32:35 > 0:32:39Felicity's dream, but after talking to her dad,

0:32:39 > 0:32:43a move's a far-from-done deal just yet for this thoughtful young woman.

0:32:48 > 0:32:50To have a fighting chance at relocating,

0:32:50 > 0:32:53the sums will have to stack up - and remember,

0:32:53 > 0:32:57number crunching comes as second nature to this would-be accountant.

0:32:57 > 0:33:00- OK.- First up, the weekly shop.

0:33:00 > 0:33:03Apples are 1.10 more expensive.

0:33:06 > 0:33:08My veggie sausages...

0:33:08 > 0:33:11- Yeah.- That's 2.10 more expensive.

0:33:11 > 0:33:13Cooking sauce is 66p more.

0:33:13 > 0:33:15Adding it all up...

0:33:17 > 0:33:24Oh, wow. £40.50 more in Australia for our weekly shop.

0:33:24 > 0:33:30- That's a lot, isn't it?- Considering ours is normally £72.35 in England,

0:33:30 > 0:33:33- it's almost double. - Moving onto the big bills.

0:33:33 > 0:33:35Basing monthly rental, on the second property,

0:33:35 > 0:33:40the pair would be paying £150 more every month for a home down under.

0:33:40 > 0:33:42There are some savings.

0:33:42 > 0:33:47So council tax over here would be £96 less than back in England.

0:33:47 > 0:33:49- That's good, isn't it? - That's really good.

0:33:49 > 0:33:52The upbeat mood doesn't last long, though.

0:33:52 > 0:33:5451.72.

0:33:54 > 0:33:57- OK.- God, it's all adding up.

0:33:57 > 0:34:01- Yeah.- In the UK, Felicity works part-time.

0:34:01 > 0:34:04Working full-time in Australia would see a significant increase in

0:34:04 > 0:34:05earnings.

0:34:05 > 0:34:11£1,077 better off if you worked in Australia.

0:34:11 > 0:34:13- Oh, that's good.- That is good. That's lifting me up a bit

0:34:13 > 0:34:15- from the previous cost. - That's great, isn't it?

0:34:15 > 0:34:18Things are looking up, but only just.

0:34:18 > 0:34:22In the UK, Felicity receives extra income from Lucy's father and benefits.

0:34:22 > 0:34:27In Australia, this would be reduced by over £800 per month.

0:34:27 > 0:34:33So you would have £234.97 more in income.

0:34:33 > 0:34:36So taking everything into consideration,

0:34:36 > 0:34:38would the pair be better or worse off down under?

0:34:38 > 0:34:46- So that would be £13.53 worse off in Australia.- £13.53.

0:34:46 > 0:34:48- Oh, gosh, that's really disappointing.- It is.

0:34:48 > 0:34:52I would certainly want it to be better than that figure if we were going to make the move.

0:34:54 > 0:34:55So a bit disappointing.

0:34:55 > 0:34:58- Yeah.- Well, a bit more than just a bit, but, you know,

0:34:58 > 0:34:59we'll just... Erm...

0:35:00 > 0:35:01Yeah.

0:35:04 > 0:35:08After an interesting reality check today, it is time to vote.

0:35:13 > 0:35:15- UK!- Undecided.

0:35:16 > 0:35:18Undecided?

0:35:18 > 0:35:22- How come?- It's not a great amount, but it's under...- Yeah.

0:35:22 > 0:35:27And I would like to see what other options would be available because

0:35:27 > 0:35:29the figure has come from what we've done today,

0:35:29 > 0:35:35but there may be other job opportunities and I'd really need to go away and check that.

0:35:35 > 0:35:40I kind of disagree with you there, just because you can't base

0:35:40 > 0:35:44a massive change like moving over to Australia on what could be.

0:35:44 > 0:35:48I get it and I understand that for you it would need to be a bit more

0:35:48 > 0:35:51secure, and I guess for me because I am a risk-taker,

0:35:51 > 0:35:54that's the type of person I am, but,

0:35:54 > 0:35:58you know, it does need to be a lot more stable and better than what the

0:35:58 > 0:35:59figures have come out today.

0:35:59 > 0:36:00Yeah.

0:36:06 > 0:36:08Felicity may still be glass-half-full,

0:36:08 > 0:36:12but there's no doubt finances have put a disappointing dent in

0:36:12 > 0:36:14her hopes of a new life down under,

0:36:14 > 0:36:18and now there's the emotional cost of a move to confront.

0:36:18 > 0:36:19Ready?

0:36:19 > 0:36:22- Yeah.- OK.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25- Hello!- Oh!

0:36:25 > 0:36:28- Hello!- Hope you're having an amazing time.

0:36:28 > 0:36:29Hi, Felicity!

0:36:29 > 0:36:31- Hey!- Hi, Lucy.

0:36:31 > 0:36:33Hey, guys!

0:36:33 > 0:36:37I think Lucy, she's caring. I think she's quite cheeky.

0:36:37 > 0:36:39She brings light.

0:36:39 > 0:36:41Yeah, she's like a little ray of hope.

0:36:41 > 0:36:42Yeah. Like a burst of sunshine.

0:36:42 > 0:36:47Really special friendship, something that I don't think I'll find in

0:36:47 > 0:36:49anyone else.

0:36:49 > 0:36:53Felicity is a crazy, adorable kiwi.

0:36:53 > 0:36:58You get a little twinkle in those electric blue eyes and you know to

0:36:58 > 0:37:01buckle in because you're in for an adventure.

0:37:01 > 0:37:05Felicity has talked on and off about going back down under,

0:37:05 > 0:37:09back to the other side of the world, for a long time on and off,

0:37:09 > 0:37:14but it's never felt like a reality as much as now because Lucy is coming up

0:37:14 > 0:37:16to finishing her schooling.

0:37:16 > 0:37:20I'm not one of those people who feels like your children owe you

0:37:20 > 0:37:23something. I don't think that they owe me anything.

0:37:23 > 0:37:27It really would be like losing family, yeah.

0:37:27 > 0:37:31I'm feeling all tearful now.

0:37:36 > 0:37:40Just talking about it, I feel sad, I feel upset.

0:37:41 > 0:37:43I feel slightly tearful, no question.

0:37:50 > 0:37:55If you are a true friend, you're not going to hold somebody back.

0:37:56 > 0:37:59Take the opportunity, go to Australia, see the world...

0:37:59 > 0:38:03- She looked down, didn't she?- Yeah, she did.- And grow as a person.

0:38:03 > 0:38:05I want you to follow your heart,

0:38:05 > 0:38:08I want you to do what's best for you and Lucy.

0:38:08 > 0:38:11Me and Mum will miss you so much.

0:38:11 > 0:38:13You really are family to us.

0:38:13 > 0:38:16And who will I have to do dating websites with now?

0:38:18 > 0:38:20No-one, mate.

0:38:24 > 0:38:27- The secret's out! - I love you unconditionally...

0:38:30 > 0:38:33..and what you decide to do gets my full support.

0:38:35 > 0:38:36I hope I've...

0:38:38 > 0:38:40..equipped you with the tools you need.

0:38:41 > 0:38:43There's always more to learn, but...

0:38:45 > 0:38:49Yeah, as you know, I wish you all the best and I love you.

0:38:51 > 0:38:53That's nice.

0:38:55 > 0:38:57I know it's supposed to help me,

0:38:57 > 0:39:00but it's made this decision quite difficult because it's reminded me

0:39:00 > 0:39:03of what I would be leaving behind.

0:39:03 > 0:39:07I really entirely understand that it's difficult.

0:39:07 > 0:39:10I guess you being close to your sister comes at the cost of me being

0:39:10 > 0:39:12not close with my dad, but the thing is,

0:39:12 > 0:39:17this has only been a week and I've been missing people so much -

0:39:17 > 0:39:20what happens if we move over here? That would be years.

0:39:21 > 0:39:26I don't know how I'd deal with that, like, without missing, like,

0:39:26 > 0:39:28feeling like something is missing from me.

0:39:28 > 0:39:31Hmm.

0:39:31 > 0:39:36The trial week has left Felicity more convinced than ever that Australia

0:39:36 > 0:39:39is where she wants to spend the rest of her days,

0:39:39 > 0:39:42but while it has been an emotional day for Felicity,

0:39:42 > 0:39:47Lucy has managed to remain cool, calm and collected throughout.

0:39:47 > 0:39:50How would you vote if you were Lucy?

0:39:50 > 0:39:52Oz with Mum or UK with Dad?

0:39:53 > 0:39:59Felicity is distraught at the thought that Lucy may choose the UK.

0:39:59 > 0:40:02It just makes me realise how much I really do want to be in Australia,

0:40:02 > 0:40:06so I'm just going to try and make it work whatever way I can.

0:40:08 > 0:40:11For her, it's about her future and this is what her dream is.

0:40:11 > 0:40:15With me, it's about my life right now and how that suits me.

0:40:16 > 0:40:20I think it's quite difficult to make a decision that works for both of us.

0:40:22 > 0:40:27Watching the friends-and-families video really brought it home about how much this would impact

0:40:27 > 0:40:29other people in my life, especially my dad.

0:40:29 > 0:40:33Lucy is so between a rock and a hard place.

0:40:33 > 0:40:34She must feel very split.

0:40:34 > 0:40:37She has her dad living in the UK.

0:40:37 > 0:40:42However, I think it's my time now and it would be wonderful for her to

0:40:42 > 0:40:44experience life here,

0:40:44 > 0:40:48to be close to her New Zealand family and see what that is like

0:40:48 > 0:40:49and how that works for her.

0:40:49 > 0:40:54But for Lucy, she's really struggling with the decision she's about to make.

0:40:54 > 0:40:59This decision has been over our heads for such a long time now and I

0:40:59 > 0:41:03think this moment in a few minutes is so huge it's really important for

0:41:03 > 0:41:07us to make a final decision and just to go with that and see where it takes us.

0:41:10 > 0:41:13Time to find out what they choose.

0:41:13 > 0:41:16Nerves are tingling. It's the final vote.

0:41:18 > 0:41:22After an emotional day, it's now time for the final vote.

0:41:29 > 0:41:31- Undecided!- Australia!

0:41:33 > 0:41:35Not a surprise there, then, is there?

0:41:35 > 0:41:38Yeah, Australia, and undecided.

0:41:38 > 0:41:42- Yeah.- I thought you would be fully, like, "I'm not coming, you can."

0:41:42 > 0:41:44Well, I thought that, too, but then I was, like,

0:41:44 > 0:41:48thinking about it and realising the benefits of coming here and it's

0:41:48 > 0:41:51really balanced. I need time to think about it.

0:41:51 > 0:41:54I feel really, really happy because the truth is, I kept thinking,

0:41:54 > 0:41:58"She's going to go UK, UK, UK," and I'm just so pleased

0:41:58 > 0:42:01that you considered it and that it's undecided.

0:42:01 > 0:42:05And I'm willing to listen to you now and I see why you were so...

0:42:05 > 0:42:09Like, you put so much into wanting to move over here and I'm here for

0:42:09 > 0:42:11that and I'm here for your future and my future, as well.

0:42:11 > 0:42:13Oh, thank you, darling.

0:42:13 > 0:42:15Yeah.

0:42:16 > 0:42:22I feel lighter that the decision has been reached and here's to our

0:42:22 > 0:42:24- future.- Whatever it may be.

0:42:24 > 0:42:30So, even after the trial week, the decision remains at stalemate,

0:42:30 > 0:42:32but the journey for Felicity and Lucy isn't over.

0:42:32 > 0:42:35In fact, it's only beginning.

0:42:35 > 0:42:40Both need more time to think just where their futures lie and it may need

0:42:40 > 0:42:44them to accept that's on opposite ends of the world from each other,

0:42:44 > 0:42:49and whether that's a price they're willing to pay, only time will tell.

0:42:49 > 0:42:52Whatever they decide - together or on their own -

0:42:52 > 0:42:56we wish the two of them all the best of luck and happiness.
