0:00:02 > 0:00:05Rossindra longs to live on the other side of the world.

0:00:07 > 0:00:12I've wanted New Zealand for so long, and all the points in my life,

0:00:12 > 0:00:14the big decisions I've made,

0:00:14 > 0:00:18kind of was aiming towards how we would get me to New Zealand.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21But her very British husband, Chris,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24is a lot less passionate about the move.

0:00:24 > 0:00:28To be honest, I can't see our lifestyle being very different

0:00:28 > 0:00:31to what it is now.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Their differences have put them under pressure.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36So, for me, it is crunch time.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39I just hope Chris realises this.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42My concern is that she's chasing after a life,

0:00:42 > 0:00:45lifestyle that maybe isn't there any more.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51A trial week in New Zealand sees expectations fulfilled...

0:00:51 > 0:00:55The house ticks all the boxes and extra.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58..preconceived ideas challenged...

0:00:58 > 0:01:01This is the house I would move halfway across the world for.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03..and commitment questioned.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06I've got a bit of cold feet.

0:01:06 > 0:01:10Yeah, I'll be honest, I'm a little bit afraid now.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14Stay in the UK or go down under?

0:01:14 > 0:01:16It's all to play for.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42Famous the world over for its scenic diversity,

0:01:42 > 0:01:46New Zealand boasts spectacular geographic backdrops,

0:01:46 > 0:01:49from beaches to rainforests and active volcanoes.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52And now, after decades of immigration,

0:01:52 > 0:01:56its population is as diverse as the landscape in the country often

0:01:56 > 0:02:00referred to as the Land of the Long White Cloud.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Chris and Rossindra Atkins

0:02:06 > 0:02:11are a husband and wife with two very different personalities.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15She wants to throw caution to the wind and follow her wildest dreams.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19He believes that slow and steady wins the race.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Across one week,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24they'll put their approaches head to head as they see the sort of life

0:02:24 > 0:02:29they could lead and afford if they relocated down under,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31before voting on where their future lies.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37After a marathon journey flying from London to Sydney, via Dubai,

0:02:37 > 0:02:40and then onto Wellington, the Atkins family arrive

0:02:40 > 0:02:45at their final destination in surprisingly fine fettle.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Flight was good. Piece of cake.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50The last 20 plus hours have been really fun.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52The kids have enjoyed it.

0:02:52 > 0:02:59I watched some movies, I saw loads of different countries.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03Little Sarah isn't quite as impressed as Lucy, though.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06It was so boring that I had to wait all the time.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11Rossindra's delighted to be a step closer to her dream.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16It's held its magic since 2000, when I first came here.

0:03:16 > 0:03:20So I do hope I fall back in love with New Zealand.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24But Chris is not committed just yet.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27A little apprehensive about the job interviews,

0:03:27 > 0:03:29and seeing what opportunities there might be for us.

0:03:29 > 0:03:34And if I'm suitably impressed, then I will be voting for New Zealand.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36If I'm not, I may be unsure.

0:03:36 > 0:03:41For now, at least, Rossindra's positively buzzing.

0:03:41 > 0:03:45Can't wait to go, let the magic begin.

0:03:46 > 0:03:47Let's hope the sun shines,

0:03:47 > 0:03:49as the family will need to soak up

0:03:49 > 0:03:52as much as they can over the next seven days

0:03:52 > 0:03:56before deciding on which side of the world their future lies.

0:03:59 > 0:04:04The Atkins family are Dad Chris, Mum Rossindra,

0:04:04 > 0:04:07Lucy, aged five, and Sarah, who's four.

0:04:08 > 0:04:12They live in the town of Bracknell, in South East England.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15Ever since the couple got together six years ago,

0:04:15 > 0:04:18talk of New Zealand has been a constant,

0:04:18 > 0:04:20sometimes sensitive subject.

0:04:20 > 0:04:25Chris has known about my New Zealand dream since day one.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27Something she's been banging on about

0:04:27 > 0:04:29ever since I've known her, really.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32It's a passion that all started when Rossindra,

0:04:32 > 0:04:35from an Indian community in the Malay Peninsula,

0:04:35 > 0:04:39visited New Zealand 17 years ago.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42Rose's dream is bordering on an obsession.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45My concern is she is chasing after a life,

0:04:45 > 0:04:48a lifestyle that maybe isn't there any more.

0:04:48 > 0:04:52It looks like there's tough discussions ahead for the couple.

0:04:54 > 0:04:58Any discussion about kids, money, finances, where we live,

0:04:58 > 0:05:00I bring the New Zealand thing up.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03Because I feel like, "Why don't we give it a try?"

0:05:03 > 0:05:06I do worry that she can be a little bit impulsive.

0:05:07 > 0:05:11Perhaps I'm the sort of balance to that.

0:05:11 > 0:05:13And it's having two young daughters

0:05:13 > 0:05:15that is driving Rossindra to make the move.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17I've always thought, if I had kids,

0:05:17 > 0:05:20I'd like to bring them up in New Zealand.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23I've grown up in Malaysia, where you're outside most of the time.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25You come back from school and, boom, you're outside.

0:05:25 > 0:05:27Things are different over here.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30So, the answer for Rossindra is New Zealand.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33And the time to move is now.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36In a few years' time it will be harder to take the kids

0:05:36 > 0:05:37out of school and move them down.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39So, for me, it is crunch time.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42And I just hope Chris realises this.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44Does Mummy want one?

0:05:44 > 0:05:46Yeah, I think I do take her seriously.

0:05:46 > 0:05:50And I've said I will look at the whole proposition,

0:05:50 > 0:05:54and if it's viable, then we can give it a go.

0:05:54 > 0:05:59But it looks like Chris is wearing his sensible hat.

0:05:59 > 0:06:03To be honest, I can't see our lifestyle being very different

0:06:03 > 0:06:05to what it is now.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07I think she'll be surprised by the climate.

0:06:07 > 0:06:11The climate in New Zealand is very similar to how it is in the UK.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15So, Mum and Dad are on different pages.

0:06:15 > 0:06:19But are the girls singing from the same hymn sheet?

0:06:19 > 0:06:24I would miss my friends and all my teachers

0:06:24 > 0:06:26and all my classmates.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30I'm going to miss David.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32The children are bouncing and Rossindra

0:06:32 > 0:06:37is bursting with anticipation as the trial week approaches.

0:06:37 > 0:06:40- I hope the dream is still alive. - It hasn't become a nightmare.

0:06:40 > 0:06:43And things are as magical as they used to be when I first saw them.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48For Chris, however, it's all about the practicalities.

0:06:49 > 0:06:55The main thing that's got to be right about New Zealand is the work.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59And getting the right opportunity for us to support the family.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03It's fair to say that, when it comes to the week ahead,

0:07:03 > 0:07:05the pressure is definitely on.

0:07:07 > 0:07:11I don't want to be here in Bracknell at 60 years of age,

0:07:11 > 0:07:13looking after my grandchild and thinking,

0:07:13 > 0:07:15sitting back and thinking, "Oh, geez,

0:07:15 > 0:07:18"I wonder what would have happened if we'd tried out New Zealand."

0:07:18 > 0:07:19I don't want that to happen.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24Of course, there is always one other outcome.

0:07:27 > 0:07:30What if I'm the one who's inspired I say, "Yeah, let's go,

0:07:30 > 0:07:32"let's go tomorrow,"

0:07:32 > 0:07:34and now you don't want to go because you've seen what

0:07:34 > 0:07:36- the weather's really like? - I'm a bit scared of that.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44For their trial week, the Atkins are staying north-east

0:07:44 > 0:07:46of Wellington in the Upper Hutt region.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50By the time they arrive at their temporary accommodation,

0:07:50 > 0:07:54it's too late for tiny tots, so it's straight to bed.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58Next morning, wide-eyed and bushy tailed,

0:07:58 > 0:08:01the family take in their new surroundings.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04I drew the curtains and it's absolutely beautiful.

0:08:04 > 0:08:08We were struck by the scenery, really. It really is beautiful around here.

0:08:08 > 0:08:11Despite having only been in the country a few hours,

0:08:11 > 0:08:15Rossindra's already imagining what life could be like here.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18I love it, the kids love it.

0:08:18 > 0:08:20And I wish I could stay forever.

0:08:20 > 0:08:24But she also knows there's still a lot to consider.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28I feel there is pressure, I should deliver to Chris.

0:08:28 > 0:08:33I hope Chris is honest enough to tell me that he loves the place

0:08:33 > 0:08:36and that we hope to start our life here.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39I don't think I'm going to buckle in the face of such pressure.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42But it has been her dream for quite some time.

0:08:44 > 0:08:48And, hopefully, we can make it happen. And I'm hopeful.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53It's a positive start, but the country will have to deliver

0:08:53 > 0:08:56in the next seven days if Chris is to fully commit to a life

0:08:56 > 0:08:59on the other side of the world.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10Back in the UK, home for the Atkins

0:09:10 > 0:09:12is a three-bedroom semi in Bracknell.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15And it's fair to say they like where they live.

0:09:15 > 0:09:16The house we've got

0:09:16 > 0:09:18and the location we've got is a very good one.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22We're a few minutes' walk from the school.

0:09:22 > 0:09:26And Bracknell is awash with cycleways, byways and highways.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29You can get from one side of the town to the other

0:09:29 > 0:09:32without even walking on a road.

0:09:32 > 0:09:36So, what type of property are they after in New Zealand?

0:09:36 > 0:09:39Physically, a bigger house, because I'd like to have a dog or a cat.

0:09:39 > 0:09:40It would be nice to have a house

0:09:40 > 0:09:43with a more open sort of kitchen-diner area.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45You can cook and you can see the family,

0:09:45 > 0:09:49and you have space for actually a dining table in the kitchen area.

0:09:49 > 0:09:50That would be nice to see.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55They'll have a budget of £320,000 to play with,

0:09:55 > 0:09:59but Chris isn't looking for anything fancy.

0:09:59 > 0:10:02We're looking for a modest house, something like we've got now,

0:10:02 > 0:10:04with a little bit of green space.

0:10:04 > 0:10:06Space for the obligatory barbecue.

0:10:06 > 0:10:09We can just chill out, put some loungers out the back.

0:10:09 > 0:10:11I don't think we're after a show house.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13We're not really show-house people.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16To find out what kind of home their money could get them,

0:10:16 > 0:10:18we'll show the family three properties,

0:10:18 > 0:10:23two based on budget and a third which could be their dream home.

0:10:23 > 0:10:26The search begins in Upper Hutt.

0:10:26 > 0:10:28Surrounded by bush-clad mountains,

0:10:28 > 0:10:32the township has become popular in recent years as prices in the

0:10:32 > 0:10:34Wellington area increased.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38What will they make of this four-bedroom home?

0:10:39 > 0:10:42Beautiful-looking place. I like the garden at the front.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44It's not wooden. You didn't want wooden.

0:10:44 > 0:10:47- It's all brick built. It looks good. - Big thumbs up from Chris.

0:10:47 > 0:10:51And, inside, Rossindra is getting excited, too.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53Do you like it? I like it.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56The way you park at the front and you walk in through the front door.

0:10:56 > 0:10:57And the hallway is great.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59It's certainly bigger than our

0:10:59 > 0:11:02current home in the UK, so I'm happy.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05- I can't wait to see the rest of the place.- A good start.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07This is the main living area.

0:11:07 > 0:11:09- Nice.- It's very bright.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11I like the mural on the wall.

0:11:11 > 0:11:15- It is hard to miss, to be fair. - It's much bigger than what we have.

0:11:15 > 0:11:19- And a dining area.- I like it. - The dining area's quite cool.

0:11:19 > 0:11:21It's all very positive.

0:11:21 > 0:11:25But it's not long before Chris begins to have doubts.

0:11:25 > 0:11:27Perhaps slightly dated.

0:11:27 > 0:11:32I think we would be looking for a slightly more modern look.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34Well, that's fair enough.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37Meanwhile, the girls know what they want.

0:11:37 > 0:11:43- Can we go and play outside now? - Yes, you can.- Yay!

0:11:43 > 0:11:46Mum and Dad, meanwhile, continue their tour.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49- After you.- Oh, thank you. - Next stop, the kitchen.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52- It's nice. Nice and compact. - I'll be honest, it's a bit small.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54It would be nice to have a bigger kitchen.

0:11:54 > 0:11:57It could do with a little bit of modernisation.

0:11:57 > 0:11:58Well, it is a far cry from

0:11:58 > 0:12:01the open-plan kitchen on their wish list.

0:12:01 > 0:12:05I'd like the fact that I'm cutting and cooking,

0:12:05 > 0:12:07I can watch the kids and I can tell them, "Oi, sit down.

0:12:07 > 0:12:11"Oi, switch the TV off. Do your homework." And cook.

0:12:11 > 0:12:13You can't get everything you want in life.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15Unfortunately, that's so.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17- Hey, you got...- I got you.

0:12:17 > 0:12:19Yeah, OK.

0:12:19 > 0:12:22So, let's scratch that. You can get some of the things you want.

0:12:22 > 0:12:26Aw, sweet. Moving on, however, styling in the main bedroom

0:12:26 > 0:12:28also fails to impress.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31Feels like one of the houses in the UK.

0:12:31 > 0:12:33It feels like your grandma's house.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36It does a little bit, yeah.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40Maybe the bathroom can wow them.

0:12:40 > 0:12:43- Hey, something's missing. - What's missing?

0:12:43 > 0:12:47I'd prefer the toilet to be in here. Maybe it's next door.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49Let's go and find the toilet and see

0:12:49 > 0:12:51if we can break the wall and put it all in one.

0:12:53 > 0:12:57- Oh.- Yeah, it is the toilet. So...

0:12:57 > 0:13:00I don't think you're really going to knock that together, are you?

0:13:00 > 0:13:03- We can't?- I don't think so.

0:13:05 > 0:13:09Wait until you move in before knocking stuff down, Rossindra.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12With four bedrooms, the house definitely has enough space

0:13:12 > 0:13:16for the whole family and the double garage is an added bonus.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20And outside makes an impression.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23Oh, wow, it's lovely.

0:13:23 > 0:13:26- I love the decking area. - So there is a bit of space.

0:13:26 > 0:13:28But the jury's still out.

0:13:28 > 0:13:32It's a bit dated. But it's got some life in it.

0:13:32 > 0:13:35- It's a bit like you, Chris. - Oh, that's nice.

0:13:35 > 0:13:38There's life in the old dog yet.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40You can say that again.

0:13:40 > 0:13:42Steady on, Rossindra.

0:13:42 > 0:13:44Let's get back to business.

0:13:44 > 0:13:48Does the price fit the £320,000 budget?

0:13:49 > 0:13:50- Come on, then.- OK.

0:13:55 > 0:13:58- Wow, it's £305,000.- Wow! - So that's within our budget.

0:13:59 > 0:14:02That's an impressive £15,000 under budget.

0:14:04 > 0:14:07- This is a steal.- Yeah, I think it's really good value for the price.

0:14:07 > 0:14:12Let's hope this is representative of what we can find out here.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15Only one house down and things are motoring nicely.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18Can property two keep things on track?

0:14:18 > 0:14:20Lucy and Sarah are happy with child-minders

0:14:20 > 0:14:23and we're going a bit further north to Birchfield,

0:14:23 > 0:14:25about one hour from Wellington.

0:14:25 > 0:14:29Chris and Rossindra seemed smitten from the off.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32- It's certainly got the wow factor. - I love the area.

0:14:32 > 0:14:36I like that you're almost driving into a nature-reserve area.

0:14:36 > 0:14:40I mean, this is somewhere I would look at to go and stay

0:14:40 > 0:14:44for a week's holiday in Wales or somewhere in the Lake District.

0:14:44 > 0:14:48And you can't get more beautiful than that.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51Off to a flying start, but will inside this five-bedroom,

0:14:51 > 0:14:54three-garage house continue to impress?

0:14:54 > 0:14:59- Look. Wow.- It's certainly different from the first house.

0:14:59 > 0:15:03- Wow, yeah.- And it's got the layout they're after.

0:15:03 > 0:15:06Yeah, it's very, very open-plan.

0:15:06 > 0:15:09And this is a huge living space.

0:15:09 > 0:15:12I think our living room is half of this.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15Once again, it's Chris who has doubts.

0:15:15 > 0:15:19The only concern I'd have here is heating it in the winter.

0:15:19 > 0:15:22It's a very big open space. Single-glazed windows.

0:15:23 > 0:15:24I think you'd need that wood burner.

0:15:24 > 0:15:26And Rossindra's initial warm glow

0:15:26 > 0:15:30cools as she gets worried about the price.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32I absolutely love what I'm seeing,

0:15:32 > 0:15:36but I think it might be a bit above our budget.

0:15:36 > 0:15:38Unfortunately, it might be.

0:15:38 > 0:15:40Onwards to the main bedroom,

0:15:40 > 0:15:43which unusually is on the ground floor.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45So will this put them off?

0:15:45 > 0:15:47I think this is a good-sized master bedroom.

0:15:47 > 0:15:50I like the built-in wardrobes, built-in cupboards.

0:15:50 > 0:15:52But Chris has spotted the flaw.

0:15:52 > 0:15:54Yeah. I don't know whether I'd be

0:15:54 > 0:15:57too happy close to the road like that. And downstairs as well.

0:15:57 > 0:15:59Normally we live upstairs.

0:15:59 > 0:16:01However, the positives keep stacking

0:16:01 > 0:16:04up and Chris is coming round in the en suite.

0:16:04 > 0:16:07- Yeah.- The toilet is there, so I'm happy.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10Actually, it's nicely tiled, nicely finished, which is really nice.

0:16:10 > 0:16:12Yeah, I like it.

0:16:12 > 0:16:14Upstairs boasts another

0:16:14 > 0:16:17four spacious and very colourful bedrooms.

0:16:17 > 0:16:20It's huge up here. It's got real character.

0:16:20 > 0:16:23This is a house you'd be proud to have friends over and family

0:16:23 > 0:16:26over and say, this is why I moved halfway across the world.

0:16:28 > 0:16:31Sliding on into the main bathroom now.

0:16:31 > 0:16:33Aw, it's a family bathroom.

0:16:33 > 0:16:36- That is really nice. - You can have a bath with a view.

0:16:37 > 0:16:40Mm, I hope that view is one-way.

0:16:40 > 0:16:42As they relocate downstairs,

0:16:42 > 0:16:46the outlook is good, because outside is magnificent.

0:16:47 > 0:16:50- Wow.- There's a lot of space.

0:16:50 > 0:16:53The outside is lovely. They've done a lot with it.

0:16:53 > 0:16:55I've got my roses here, so I'm happy.

0:16:55 > 0:16:59- Yes, you've got roses.- Rossindra is getting very excited now.

0:16:59 > 0:17:00Your allotment patch over there

0:17:00 > 0:17:03and you've still got the outside space for the kids to play,

0:17:03 > 0:17:05you can kick the ball around.

0:17:05 > 0:17:08In the beginning, Chris was sceptical about New Zealand -

0:17:08 > 0:17:10is he beginning to see the light?

0:17:10 > 0:17:14This is a place you would want to bring people to entertain,

0:17:14 > 0:17:16barbecue out the back.

0:17:16 > 0:17:18You could play your football, badminton,

0:17:18 > 0:17:20whatever you like out the back there.

0:17:20 > 0:17:24The house ticks all the boxes and extra.

0:17:24 > 0:17:27We have to wait and see how much it costs.

0:17:27 > 0:17:29That is the big question.

0:17:29 > 0:17:31What do they think it's worth?

0:17:31 > 0:17:35£322,000.

0:17:35 > 0:17:37Well, I think about £375,000.

0:17:37 > 0:17:41Oh, no, that's my dream home! Well...don't crush my dream!

0:17:41 > 0:17:46- That's why it's a dream home. Shall we see?- Yes, come on, then.

0:17:46 > 0:17:47- How much is it? - SHE GASPS

0:17:47 > 0:17:52£330,000. Wow, which makes this house pretty affordable.

0:17:52 > 0:17:53This is like a proper dream home.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55So are you happy with that valuation?

0:17:55 > 0:17:58I am super duper happy, Chris.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00Rossindra can hardly believe her luck,

0:18:00 > 0:18:03and there's still one more property to go.

0:18:04 > 0:18:09We've found what we think could be the couple's dream home

0:18:09 > 0:18:12and it's just ten minutes up the road from the second property.

0:18:13 > 0:18:15- Wow.- Do you like it?

0:18:15 > 0:18:19- Yeah, I like it.- It looks a bit neat and tidy for me.

0:18:19 > 0:18:22Early indications of divided opinions.

0:18:22 > 0:18:24Will the inside impress?

0:18:25 > 0:18:28It's really, really well done inside.

0:18:28 > 0:18:31It's new, it's modern, it's contemporary.

0:18:31 > 0:18:34It's neat and tidy and that's up your street.

0:18:34 > 0:18:37- Yeah, this is closer to my dream house than it is to yours. - SHE CHUCKLES

0:18:37 > 0:18:42- Yes.- The kitchen, however, works for both Rossindra and Chris.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45This kitchen is much bigger than the second house,

0:18:45 > 0:18:47and I do like a big kitchen.

0:18:47 > 0:18:53- But...- I don't see us in this house, because it's very neat and tidy.

0:18:53 > 0:18:56- It's much too tidy for you? - Yes, yes. Yeah, it is.

0:18:56 > 0:19:01The lawn is very well kept and the grass is green, it's beautiful.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04Perfect for Chris, in other words.

0:19:04 > 0:19:06I hate gardening, but I would enjoy cutting that lawn.

0:19:06 > 0:19:09I would come home from work to cut that lawn.

0:19:09 > 0:19:10It looks lovely.

0:19:10 > 0:19:13Now that is high praise.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16But split opinions continue into the living area.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19Oh, this is a lovely breakout area.

0:19:19 > 0:19:23- It's huge.- Yes. It's a beautiful area for relaxing.

0:19:23 > 0:19:25Throw some bean bags, throw some

0:19:25 > 0:19:27toys around and then it'll be our house.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30Well, Chris is nodding, but I'm not

0:19:30 > 0:19:33sure he's a bean bag sort of guy.

0:19:33 > 0:19:35Will the main bedroom bridge the divide?

0:19:35 > 0:19:38- Oh, look.- Wow.- Wow.

0:19:38 > 0:19:42- A walk-in wardrobe. - It had to be the walk-in wardrobe.

0:19:42 > 0:19:45Looking positive, and through the next door...

0:19:45 > 0:19:46- Yay!- Oh, wow, the en suite.

0:19:46 > 0:19:51- Do you like your clean, white lines, then?- Oh, yeah.

0:19:51 > 0:19:53Yeah. This is ticking all the boxes.

0:19:53 > 0:19:55This is exactly what I've been looking for.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58This is the house I would move halfway across the world for.

0:19:58 > 0:20:02Chris is captivated. Rossindra on the other hand...

0:20:02 > 0:20:04It looks like a hotel room suite.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06I just need to bring my stuff in and mess it up a little,

0:20:06 > 0:20:08then it'll look like home.

0:20:08 > 0:20:12However, is she sensing that Chris might be coming round to the idea

0:20:12 > 0:20:14of a New Zealand home?

0:20:14 > 0:20:16For me this is the best of the properties we've seen so far.

0:20:16 > 0:20:18Look, we'll do a deal, all right?

0:20:18 > 0:20:22If you bring me and the kids down, I'll keep the house neat and tidy.

0:20:24 > 0:20:27- Okey-doke. - Are you up for that?- It's a deal.

0:20:27 > 0:20:31Well, that's a step forward, but even outside this house,

0:20:31 > 0:20:34Rossindra just isn't seeing what Chris is seeing.

0:20:34 > 0:20:36- Do you like it?- Yeah, I do.

0:20:36 > 0:20:42- It's beautiful. It's just...I don't see my vegetable plots...- No.

0:20:42 > 0:20:46..having any space in this very well-manicured garden.

0:20:46 > 0:20:48So I don't see that.

0:20:48 > 0:20:52Is his dream house affordable on their £320,000 budget?

0:20:52 > 0:20:55- All right, crunch time. - OK. It is crunch time.

0:20:55 > 0:20:57Yeah, I think this is going to be at the top of the range.

0:20:57 > 0:21:00£400,000, what do you say, maybe a bit more?

0:21:00 > 0:21:02No, I think that's too much. 370...

0:21:02 > 0:21:05£370,000?

0:21:05 > 0:21:06..seven.

0:21:06 > 0:21:08- OK.- I'm ready.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10Here's the moment of truth.

0:21:10 > 0:21:11It's...

0:21:11 > 0:21:15- Oh!- £395,000.

0:21:15 > 0:21:16Well, nearly £400,000.

0:21:16 > 0:21:22It is not insurmountable if we both get good jobs and we're working.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25So all you need to do is make the first step, come to New Zealand.

0:21:27 > 0:21:29The house-hunting may have seen Chris begin to waver

0:21:29 > 0:21:32about living down under after a day

0:21:32 > 0:21:34viewing three quite different properties.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38House number one had a lived-in charm,

0:21:38 > 0:21:43but needed a lot of work and didn't set the hearts racing.

0:21:43 > 0:21:46But at £305,000, it was well within budget.

0:21:49 > 0:21:51Property two was Rossindra's perfect home.

0:21:51 > 0:21:55It had space, colour and a very pretty garden

0:21:55 > 0:21:58with a price tag that was just over budget,

0:21:58 > 0:22:00but very manageable.

0:22:01 > 0:22:05House number three ticked all of Chris' boxes with its sleek,

0:22:05 > 0:22:09modern feel, but for Rossindra it just wasn't homely enough.

0:22:09 > 0:22:15At £395,000, it looks like they wouldn't be moving in any time soon.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18So when it comes to Kiwi homes,

0:22:18 > 0:22:21will Chris and Rossindra vote for the UK or down under?

0:22:23 > 0:22:26After a day's house-hunting in Wellington, New Zealand,

0:22:26 > 0:22:28it's time to vote on the properties we've seen today.

0:22:38 > 0:22:43- New Zealand!- New Zealand! Whoohoo! Well done, Chris.

0:22:43 > 0:22:45Correct answer - New Zealand.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48I'm pleased with you. Ten points for Chris.

0:22:51 > 0:22:55A vote for New Zealand homes is a huge step in the right direction

0:22:55 > 0:22:58for Rossindra's dream, but she knows unless Chris

0:22:58 > 0:23:00can be convinced of good job prospects down under,

0:23:00 > 0:23:03they won't be going anywhere.

0:23:04 > 0:23:08Back in the UK, he works as an information manager

0:23:08 > 0:23:10and data analyst in the local council

0:23:10 > 0:23:14or, as it's called in the business, GIS.

0:23:14 > 0:23:18GIS stands for geographic information systems.

0:23:18 > 0:23:24We publish maps on to our website using our data and map-based data.

0:23:24 > 0:23:26Until recently, Rossindra also worked

0:23:26 > 0:23:29for the council on environmental policy.

0:23:29 > 0:23:33It came to a time when they had to make certain cuts and my department

0:23:33 > 0:23:36had to do some cuts and my role was no longer needed

0:23:36 > 0:23:40as a full-time role, so they let me go.

0:23:40 > 0:23:43Relocating to New Zealand would be an opportunity for them both

0:23:43 > 0:23:46to move to the private sector.

0:23:46 > 0:23:50I'd love to work with perhaps a wider zone of interest

0:23:50 > 0:23:53than the local authority has now.

0:23:53 > 0:23:55The private sector affords those opportunities for you

0:23:55 > 0:23:59to get involved in large difference-making projects.

0:23:59 > 0:24:03Currently his type of job should be the ticket for us to get in,

0:24:03 > 0:24:06but with Chris being a bit apprehensive,

0:24:06 > 0:24:10we also just need to find him a job that allows us to apply for a visa,

0:24:10 > 0:24:13he needs to find a job that he's comfortable in.

0:24:13 > 0:24:15And how much does Chris need to earn?

0:24:15 > 0:24:19Realistically, I would be looking

0:24:19 > 0:24:23for a salary around £35,000 to £40,000 as a starting point.

0:24:23 > 0:24:25Without a shadow of a doubt,

0:24:25 > 0:24:29the work prospects in New Zealand are top of his priorities.

0:24:29 > 0:24:31If there were no opportunities for me in New Zealand,

0:24:31 > 0:24:34I'd be very reluctant to make the move.

0:24:34 > 0:24:37Rossindra, on the other hand, is willing to compromise.

0:24:37 > 0:24:41I will work in a supermarket or I will be a binman

0:24:41 > 0:24:46if it means Chris getting his visa, us starting new down under.

0:24:47 > 0:24:50Today, we'll give the couple the opportunity

0:24:50 > 0:24:54to explore their chances of finding work down under.

0:24:54 > 0:24:57And for both, it's a tale of two expats.

0:24:57 > 0:25:02Rossindra is hooking up with Steve, originally from Maidstone in Kent.

0:25:02 > 0:25:06He's a recruiter at a large engineering and consultancy firm.

0:25:06 > 0:25:08- Do you want to come through? - Yeah, sure.

0:25:08 > 0:25:11While Chris is meeting Scott, originally from Scotland,

0:25:11 > 0:25:15at Wellington-based technology firm Eagle Technology.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18And straight away, he zones in on the killer question.

0:25:18 > 0:25:21Do you think, with my skill set, I'd be able to get a job here?

0:25:21 > 0:25:25I mean, GIS is a shortage area for us just now in New Zealand.

0:25:25 > 0:25:27You could work almost anywhere in the country, I would say.

0:25:27 > 0:25:29- Yeah.- Especially through local government.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31Every council in the country uses GIS.

0:25:31 > 0:25:33I think we're lucky here that in New Zealand

0:25:33 > 0:25:35a lot of the public sector's doing some really creative and

0:25:35 > 0:25:38innovative things, so you wouldn't necessarily need to look

0:25:38 > 0:25:40- at the private sector. - That's very different to the UK.

0:25:40 > 0:25:42So, good news right away.

0:25:42 > 0:25:45Across town with Rossindra, it's an equally good start.

0:25:45 > 0:25:49I'm looking for a role where it ties in with conservation,

0:25:49 > 0:25:52ecology, urban sustainability.

0:25:52 > 0:25:53I'm looking at roles in that line.

0:25:53 > 0:25:56We're in a good area at the moment,

0:25:56 > 0:25:58because the government is spending a lot of money on things like

0:25:58 > 0:26:00infrastructure and housing,

0:26:00 > 0:26:03so we're getting more than our fair share of work.

0:26:03 > 0:26:05Would I come in and be able to get a job?

0:26:05 > 0:26:07Your background in planning,

0:26:07 > 0:26:11sustainability and environmental science would be valuable to other

0:26:11 > 0:26:14organisations, and the fact that you've done project management as

0:26:14 > 0:26:17well, that's a really good tick in your box, as well.

0:26:17 > 0:26:19- That's good.- Fantastic.

0:26:20 > 0:26:24Back with Chris and Scott, they're talking visas.

0:26:24 > 0:26:28Working in the UK, not a lot of organisations hire from overseas.

0:26:28 > 0:26:33Will government organisations in New Zealand hire from overseas?

0:26:33 > 0:26:35I know that from Eagle's perspective, where I work here,

0:26:35 > 0:26:39we've got a very mixed set of people who work here

0:26:39 > 0:26:40from all around the world.

0:26:40 > 0:26:43And it's a question also on Rossindra's mind.

0:26:43 > 0:26:46Myself and some of the team went to the UK in February

0:26:46 > 0:26:50and ran a bit of a workshop and actually employed...

0:26:50 > 0:26:53I think we've employed six people now directly from the UK.

0:26:53 > 0:26:55- Oh, Steve, you missed me! - Yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah.

0:26:55 > 0:26:58Where was I in February?

0:26:58 > 0:27:02Chris, meanwhile, has moved on to talk about the all-important issues

0:27:02 > 0:27:04of hours and pay.

0:27:04 > 0:27:07So, I've looked at your CV and seen the experience you have there,

0:27:07 > 0:27:10and for a GIS manager role in New Zealand,

0:27:10 > 0:27:15I would think somewhere in the range of 48,000 to 64,000 in pounds

0:27:15 > 0:27:18as a salary would be the sort of range I would be thinking.

0:27:18 > 0:27:20That sounds very encouraging.

0:27:20 > 0:27:23Now, that's an offer he can't refuse.

0:27:23 > 0:27:25So, what about Rossindra?

0:27:25 > 0:27:30You'd probably be looking at around about £43,000 to £53,000.

0:27:30 > 0:27:31Someone with your background,

0:27:31 > 0:27:34the fact that you've got a master's degree, as well

0:27:34 > 0:27:35and your level of experience.

0:27:35 > 0:27:37Much more than what I was earning, so...

0:27:37 > 0:27:40- Good, that's excellent. - It's been a quickfire day,

0:27:40 > 0:27:42with really encouraging news

0:27:42 > 0:27:45on the work front for both Chris and Rossindra.

0:27:45 > 0:27:48So the mood is upbeat as they meet to compare notes.

0:27:48 > 0:27:51- Hello.- Hello.- You all right?

0:27:51 > 0:27:52- Yeah, had a good day.- That's good.

0:27:52 > 0:27:55I'm very positive. Had a good interview.

0:27:55 > 0:27:57Possibly some leads on a job.

0:27:57 > 0:27:59So, very positive so far.

0:27:59 > 0:28:04- Aw, I'm really pleased.- I could be starting around 45,000 UK pounds,

0:28:04 > 0:28:07working up to about 65,000.

0:28:07 > 0:28:09It's more than what I'm earning now and, I mean,

0:28:09 > 0:28:12it has the potential for the future, which is what I'm looking for.

0:28:12 > 0:28:14- That's good to hear. - And how was your day?

0:28:14 > 0:28:16- How were your interviews? - I was quite pleasantly surprised.

0:28:16 > 0:28:20He liked my CV and he did say there are opportunities.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23- And what about the salary? - The salary's good.

0:28:23 > 0:28:25He said 42 and I almost fell off my chair.

0:28:25 > 0:28:29- Pounds?- £42,000? Yes.- That's pretty good.

0:28:29 > 0:28:32So, fingers crossed we can both secure the right opportunities.

0:28:32 > 0:28:33I'm quite optimistic.

0:28:33 > 0:28:35Yeah, that's good. It's good.

0:28:35 > 0:28:38So, let's guess how this vote goes.

0:28:45 > 0:28:47- New Zealand.- New Zealand.

0:28:48 > 0:28:51- I'm really pleased. - Your dream is still alive.

0:28:51 > 0:28:55- Aw. - SHE LAUGHS

0:28:55 > 0:28:58- OK. Let's go and find the kids. - Let's go.

0:28:58 > 0:29:03With prospects blossoming and love blooming, things are looking up.

0:29:07 > 0:29:11Halfway through their trial week, and it couldn't be going better

0:29:11 > 0:29:14for Ros' mission to convince her cautious husband Chris

0:29:14 > 0:29:17that their future lies in New Zealand.

0:29:17 > 0:29:21But there's still that all-important financial reality check

0:29:21 > 0:29:23and messages from home to come.

0:29:23 > 0:29:26And that can change everything.

0:29:26 > 0:29:30First, though, it's time for them to sample the sort of lifestyle

0:29:30 > 0:29:33the family might be able to enjoy down under.

0:29:35 > 0:29:38The Atkins family head off to spend the day at a local nature reserve.

0:29:40 > 0:29:43The weather has taken a turn for the worse,

0:29:43 > 0:29:46so it's time to get the wellies on down in Wellington.

0:29:47 > 0:29:50The family are being given a guided tour

0:29:50 > 0:29:53and getting up close to some Kiwi wildlife.

0:29:55 > 0:30:00Sarah and Lucy get the chance to feed some very hungry native kaka.

0:30:00 > 0:30:01Yes, hang there, Lucy.

0:30:01 > 0:30:04Or maybe not so hungry.

0:30:04 > 0:30:06I think he wants the stick.

0:30:06 > 0:30:09In fact, these guys seem more interested in Mum's head.

0:30:09 > 0:30:14- Mummy!- He better not poo-poo on me! - KIDS SHRIEK AND GIGGLE

0:30:14 > 0:30:16Well, if they don't want to be fed,

0:30:16 > 0:30:18there are some less exotic species

0:30:18 > 0:30:20that will always want a bite to eat.

0:30:21 > 0:30:22Ducks.

0:30:24 > 0:30:26And the creature they meet before a spot of lunch

0:30:26 > 0:30:29looks like it could have them for lunch.

0:30:30 > 0:30:32But it's friendly, really.

0:30:33 > 0:30:35And as they eat New Zealand style,

0:30:35 > 0:30:39Chris is getting into the swing of things.

0:30:39 > 0:30:42I guess that's how they roll out here in New Zealand.

0:30:42 > 0:30:46- Cook outside.- A fun family day out for the Atkins is rounded off

0:30:46 > 0:30:48with a bit of a surprise.

0:30:49 > 0:30:51- Oh, my God!- Guys!

0:30:51 > 0:30:54What is that? We are here, we're out.

0:30:54 > 0:30:56A call from home, from Rossindra's sister.

0:30:56 > 0:30:59Romina, it's been really good.

0:30:59 > 0:31:01The interviews have been good, the houses have been good.

0:31:01 > 0:31:05Hi, Romina. We are at this great bird sanctuary today,

0:31:05 > 0:31:07and a bird just landed on Ros' head.

0:31:07 > 0:31:10- So, that really cheered us all up. - Why, though?- I don't know why.

0:31:10 > 0:31:12Of all the people to land on, he lands on me, Romina.

0:31:12 > 0:31:14- That's good luck!- Yeah, I hope.

0:31:14 > 0:31:17- It is good luck. - Romina, say hi to Lucy.

0:31:17 > 0:31:19- Hello, Romina.- Are you enjoying yourself?- Yeah.

0:31:20 > 0:31:24- Hi, hi!- Hiya! Oh, I can hear the birds.

0:31:25 > 0:31:28It's a duck, silly. ROMINA LAUGHS

0:31:28 > 0:31:29OK, Romina, thanks for calling!

0:31:29 > 0:31:32Thanks a lot, and we'll see you soon!

0:31:32 > 0:31:36- Say bye!- Bye!- Bye-bye!

0:31:36 > 0:31:39A friendly voice and increasingly receptive Chris -

0:31:39 > 0:31:42surely Rossindra must be delighted.

0:31:42 > 0:31:44I don't know, I'm a bit scared.

0:31:44 > 0:31:48I've got a bit of cold feet and, yeah,

0:31:48 > 0:31:51I'll be honest - I'm just a little bit afraid now.

0:31:51 > 0:31:53That's a bolt from the blue.

0:31:53 > 0:31:56Clearly more thinking to be done.

0:31:56 > 0:31:57But, based on today,

0:31:57 > 0:32:02will the family vote for lifestyle in the UK or New Zealand?

0:32:02 > 0:32:06After a good day in New Zealand our vote goes to...

0:32:14 > 0:32:16- New Zealand!- New Zealand!

0:32:17 > 0:32:19Mm, Sarah and Lucy not on board

0:32:19 > 0:32:22and whilst Rossindra may be harbouring some doubts,

0:32:22 > 0:32:26she certainly knows the secret to securing the children's vote.

0:32:26 > 0:32:28Maybe we just need to convince the kids.

0:32:28 > 0:32:31- Buy them an ice cream or something. - Yeah, I think that's a good idea.

0:32:31 > 0:32:33Come on, then, Lucy, Sarah - do you want an ice cream?

0:32:33 > 0:32:35- Yes!- OK, they're right up here.

0:32:41 > 0:32:46It seems though Chris is swaying towards a move, but for Rossindra,

0:32:46 > 0:32:48reality seems to be dawning

0:32:48 > 0:32:51so the tables have turned.

0:32:51 > 0:32:55In any case, relocating to New Zealand could be a pipe dream

0:32:55 > 0:32:57if the figures don't stack up.

0:32:57 > 0:33:01Getting the right price for their UK home will be key.

0:33:01 > 0:33:04The couple think it's worth £310,000,

0:33:04 > 0:33:07but will two local estate agents agree?

0:33:08 > 0:33:11While the children are looked after by a child minder,

0:33:11 > 0:33:13Chris and Rossindra prepare to find out.

0:33:20 > 0:33:22It's our little house.

0:33:22 > 0:33:26OK, so good-sized living and dining-room space,

0:33:26 > 0:33:30I would definitely advise by knocking down the partition,

0:33:30 > 0:33:34opening up the space and enjoying the dual aspect of the property.

0:33:34 > 0:33:37- Thank you. I'm happy. - That's a good idea.

0:33:37 > 0:33:40OK, reasonable size kitchen.

0:33:40 > 0:33:44Nice contemporary units, even space for a table and chairs.

0:33:44 > 0:33:47- So a nice space. - That looks really nice.

0:33:47 > 0:33:51- I could live in that.- OK, so good-sized double bedroom.

0:33:51 > 0:33:53Needs a little bit of cosmetic attention,

0:33:53 > 0:33:58maybe sort of fill in the sort of few hairline fractures we have,

0:33:58 > 0:34:00otherwise good-sized double.

0:34:00 > 0:34:05So, the upstairs is a very typical layout for houses of this period

0:34:05 > 0:34:08and we come into the second bedroom here and there is a really unusual

0:34:08 > 0:34:11feature in this cupboard which is built over the stairwell.

0:34:11 > 0:34:13I've seen dozens of these houses

0:34:13 > 0:34:16before and I've never seen that done which is a really nice idea.

0:34:16 > 0:34:18Makes a really good space, and you've still got room

0:34:18 > 0:34:21for a double bed so it's a really good-sized second bedroom.

0:34:21 > 0:34:25So, true market evaluation for the property would be in the region of

0:34:25 > 0:34:27£315,000.

0:34:27 > 0:34:30if the vendors were looking for a quick sale, I would advise

0:34:30 > 0:34:32putting the property on the market

0:34:32 > 0:34:34for £300,000, offers in excess of.

0:34:34 > 0:34:37In today's market, I would value this house between

0:34:37 > 0:34:40£310,000 and £320,000.

0:34:40 > 0:34:44For a quick sale, I would value it at £300,000.

0:34:44 > 0:34:48So as a rental valuation, I would value the property in the region of

0:34:48 > 0:34:50£1,200 per calendar month.

0:34:50 > 0:34:51If the owners wanted to rent,

0:34:51 > 0:34:54I would suggest a value of between £1,150

0:34:54 > 0:34:56and £1,200 per calendar month.

0:34:56 > 0:34:59- I'm really pleased. - Yeah, I mean it's around about

0:34:59 > 0:35:02what we were expecting, so...but it's really good.

0:35:02 > 0:35:05So, you're not upset or anything to think that somebody could move into

0:35:05 > 0:35:08the house or buy the property off us? It's been your family home.

0:35:08 > 0:35:11The important thing is the family

0:35:11 > 0:35:14- itself and you make your home wherever you are.- Yeah.

0:35:14 > 0:35:17Come on, then, new start, new start.

0:35:17 > 0:35:19That's the spirit, Rossindra.

0:35:19 > 0:35:21Time to examine the cost of living.

0:35:21 > 0:35:23First, the weekly food shop.

0:35:24 > 0:35:27Chicken - more expensive. We use a lot of chicken, don't we?

0:35:27 > 0:35:30But bananas...bananas are a lot more expensive.

0:35:30 > 0:35:33The grocery bill looks like it'll be

0:35:33 > 0:35:37more expensive in New Zealand, but by how much?

0:35:37 > 0:35:42So, £56 worse off a month in New Zealand.

0:35:44 > 0:35:48£56 a month won't break the bank, but Chris and Rossindra have also to

0:35:48 > 0:35:50tackle the bigger outgoings.

0:35:50 > 0:35:53And there's nothing off the Richter scale

0:35:53 > 0:35:55until Rossindra reacts to one figure.

0:35:55 > 0:35:59Home insurance! It's making me think that you have to pay more

0:35:59 > 0:36:04in New Zealand and then my mind wanders and I think possibly

0:36:04 > 0:36:06it could be because of the earthquakes

0:36:06 > 0:36:08that are happening over here?

0:36:08 > 0:36:12And then I think, "Oh, gee, earthquake!

0:36:12 > 0:36:14"Do I want to move down under?"

0:36:14 > 0:36:17Chris has stunned written all over his face -

0:36:17 > 0:36:20it's yet another sign of doubt from Rossindra.

0:36:21 > 0:36:25Will the comparison of outgoings make things better or worse?

0:36:25 > 0:36:29- £300.- £300 per month.

0:36:29 > 0:36:33- Better off? - Better off in New Zealand!

0:36:33 > 0:36:35That's pretty impressive, isn't it?

0:36:35 > 0:36:37Yeah, that's good, happy news, yay, we should celebrate.

0:36:37 > 0:36:40On firmer ground, they look at income.

0:36:40 > 0:36:42If Rossindra did get a job down under

0:36:42 > 0:36:47and Chris' income increased in line with the advice they were given...

0:36:47 > 0:36:52This is an extra of £4,252 a month.

0:36:52 > 0:36:54Per month.

0:36:54 > 0:36:56That's pretty good, isn't it?

0:36:56 > 0:36:58It's a significant amount of money,

0:36:58 > 0:37:01but Rossindra's erring on the cautious side.

0:37:01 > 0:37:05But at the back of my mind I keep thinking, you know,

0:37:05 > 0:37:08people always say if it looks too good to be true,

0:37:08 > 0:37:13then perhaps...perhaps it's not true.

0:37:13 > 0:37:16But for Chris, the numbers don't lie.

0:37:16 > 0:37:18And when all the figures are totalled,

0:37:18 > 0:37:23they'd be better off in New Zealand by over £4,000 a month.

0:37:23 > 0:37:28That's a massive £54,624 a year.

0:37:28 > 0:37:30It's the lifestyle and the environment that you wanted.

0:37:30 > 0:37:34- Yes.- And I think we've proved that, through the numbers,

0:37:34 > 0:37:37that that is actually attainable - it looks pretty positive.

0:37:37 > 0:37:39Yes!

0:37:39 > 0:37:40It's time to vote.

0:37:42 > 0:37:46After going through our finances, our vote goes to...

0:37:55 > 0:37:57- BOTH:- New Zealand!

0:38:03 > 0:38:07Knowing they'd thrive financially down under is motivating Chris,

0:38:07 > 0:38:11but the emotional cost has to be considered, too.

0:38:11 > 0:38:14Lucy and Sarah are keen to join in as the families sit down to watch

0:38:14 > 0:38:16messages from loved ones back home.

0:38:18 > 0:38:20Hi, Rossi! Hi, Chris!

0:38:20 > 0:38:22Hello, guys, hi!

0:38:22 > 0:38:24Hello, Chris and Rossi.

0:38:25 > 0:38:27Chris and Rossi are very good together.

0:38:28 > 0:38:30I think Chris is quite funny,

0:38:30 > 0:38:32he has a bit of a cold sense of humour

0:38:32 > 0:38:37which works well, because Rossi has the extra-focused sense of humour.

0:38:37 > 0:38:39Chris is very quiet.

0:38:39 > 0:38:44He is not adventurous in trying foreign food.

0:38:44 > 0:38:47She's always been saying how nice and beautiful New Zealand is

0:38:47 > 0:38:50and she'd like to go and see and live there.

0:38:50 > 0:38:54She said if she ever gets the opportunity to go to any country

0:38:54 > 0:38:57she will choose New Zealand.

0:38:57 > 0:39:01I think Chris might be a little bit more unsure about going,

0:39:01 > 0:39:04cos obviously it's Rossi that is the one that wants to go.

0:39:04 > 0:39:07Oh, I'll definitely miss the daily conversations that we have,

0:39:07 > 0:39:10daily chats, cos we talk quite a lot.

0:39:10 > 0:39:12I'd definitely miss seeing the girls.

0:39:12 > 0:39:16I really want them to go and do well,

0:39:16 > 0:39:20but on the other hand I'm really going to miss them.

0:39:20 > 0:39:22Rossi's the only one here, so I get to go and see her,

0:39:22 > 0:39:25but if she's gone then for me, as well, it's going to be all alone

0:39:25 > 0:39:27and it's really a long way to go.

0:39:30 > 0:39:34But I will miss her a lot and the children if she goes,

0:39:34 > 0:39:36but it's one of them things.

0:39:36 > 0:39:39I think you should just go for it, it's a great opportunity

0:39:39 > 0:39:42for Rossi and Chris before the children get too old

0:39:42 > 0:39:43and get settled where they are.

0:39:43 > 0:39:47So if Rossi feels that New Zealand is going to have a better future

0:39:47 > 0:39:51for her and her family and the children, I feel Chris will agree.

0:39:51 > 0:39:55I'll definitely support you 100%, whatever decision you make.

0:39:55 > 0:39:57Good luck!

0:39:58 > 0:40:01Ohh. So, what do you think?

0:40:01 > 0:40:04So it is very difficult, as she said, it's a very long way away.

0:40:04 > 0:40:06That's one of the factors, isn't it?

0:40:06 > 0:40:09You have to weigh up moving all the way out here.

0:40:09 > 0:40:11Will you be sad to leave the UK?

0:40:11 > 0:40:16Yes, I will be, but the main point here is they've all

0:40:16 > 0:40:20given us their blessings and at this point in our life I think,

0:40:20 > 0:40:25yeah, we should take our chances and see what life has to offer for us.

0:40:25 > 0:40:29Hearing from family and friends seems to have refocused Rossindra

0:40:29 > 0:40:32in her long-held ambition to move down under.

0:40:32 > 0:40:35Undoubtedly, it's a difficult decision.

0:40:36 > 0:40:39At the start of the week, free spirit Rossindra made it her

0:40:39 > 0:40:42mission to convince her more cautious

0:40:42 > 0:40:44and, yes, cynical husband Chris

0:40:44 > 0:40:48that they should risk it all on a move down under.

0:40:48 > 0:40:50He, however, wanted to find out

0:40:50 > 0:40:53whether the gamble was just too big to make.

0:40:53 > 0:40:56Now, as they approach the final vote,

0:40:56 > 0:41:00has she managed to win him round to her way of thinking?

0:41:00 > 0:41:02What would you do if it was you?

0:41:04 > 0:41:08After years of coaxing husband Chris to relocate down under,

0:41:08 > 0:41:11his attitude isn't what she anticipated.

0:41:11 > 0:41:17I'm shocked by the fact that Chris is all go, go, go on Chris' side.

0:41:17 > 0:41:22If anything, it's Rossindra who appears reluctant to take the leap.

0:41:22 > 0:41:24You stood at the edge of the cliff

0:41:24 > 0:41:27and you've waited like, "Come on, guys! Come on! Come on!"

0:41:29 > 0:41:33You look at yourself and you're like, "Am I ready?"

0:41:33 > 0:41:35I spent all this time getting them here,

0:41:35 > 0:41:39- "Am I ready, have I got my parachute on?" - SHE LAUGHS

0:41:39 > 0:41:43As ever, it's been the messages from home that have made a huge impact on

0:41:43 > 0:41:47- the couple.- The friends and family messages do bring you back to

0:41:47 > 0:41:51reality and I guess show you what you're missing.

0:41:51 > 0:41:54It's kind of a check and to see - "Do you want to do this thing?"

0:41:54 > 0:41:56It's a massive step moving to the other side of the world.

0:41:56 > 0:42:00So maybe a little bit of doubt in my mind.

0:42:00 > 0:42:02So as the final vote approaches,

0:42:02 > 0:42:07how are this very loving - but very different - couple feeling?

0:42:07 > 0:42:09This is crunch time, the kids are young

0:42:09 > 0:42:11and we're not getting any younger.

0:42:11 > 0:42:13It's a little bit of soul-searching

0:42:13 > 0:42:15and some tough decision-making to be done.

0:42:15 > 0:42:20Will the family decide their destiny lies at home or away?

0:42:34 > 0:42:36BOTH: New Zealand!

0:42:36 > 0:42:38UK!

0:42:38 > 0:42:41Wow, Chris, you voted New Zealand, well done! I am pleased.

0:42:41 > 0:42:43Yeah, you've won me around,

0:42:43 > 0:42:46I'm quite happy with what our lifestyle could be out here,

0:42:46 > 0:42:50- I'm happy to give it a go. - Yay! Come on, then.

0:42:52 > 0:42:54Well, she did it!

0:42:54 > 0:42:58And, finally, cautious Chris became Chris the convert.

0:42:58 > 0:43:02All they have to do now is work on little Sarah.

0:43:02 > 0:43:04Whatever move they make next,

0:43:04 > 0:43:07we'll be following their progress with interest.

0:43:07 > 0:43:10And, of course, wishing them the best of luck.

0:43:10 > 0:43:13Group hug, group hug, group hug! Group hug, group hug!
