0:00:02 > 0:00:06Welcome to Wanted Down Under, the show that catapults a British family

0:00:06 > 0:00:11right across the other side of the world to help them make the biggest decision of their life.

0:00:11 > 0:00:16Jon Mills loves the idea of starting a new life Down Under

0:00:16 > 0:00:19and would be fulfilling a lifelong dream to go there.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22I honestly believe that I should be in Australia

0:00:22 > 0:00:25and this is a place that I've always meant to be, as well.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28His wife, Mandi, is reluctant to swap the certainties of her life

0:00:28 > 0:00:34in the UK for an unknown future in Australia, but she's willing to put it to the test.

0:00:34 > 0:00:39To come here is a really big deal, because it could change the rest of our lives.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43Could this be Jon's only chance to convince Mandi that life in Oz would be better?

0:00:43 > 0:00:45If Mandi did say no, that's it.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49I will be devastated but it's got to be a joint decision.

0:00:49 > 0:00:54Or will her close ties with home mean he has to bury his dreams for the sake of their family?

0:00:54 > 0:01:01I would need a lot of convincing to want to make a whole new life here for me to give it a go, I think.

0:01:01 > 0:01:05So, will the Mills end up where they're Wanted Down Under?

0:01:30 > 0:01:33For many, Australia seems to promise a fantastic lifestyle.

0:01:37 > 0:01:43And anyone who's under 45 with a skill that's in demand could head for a future life Down Under.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48Last year, over 60 Brits a day jumped at the chance,

0:01:48 > 0:01:52but how do you go about making such a tough decision?

0:01:52 > 0:01:55We've given 20 more families the chance of a lifetime

0:01:55 > 0:01:58to swap the UK for a future in the sun,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01But after just one week, which way will they vote?

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Stay in the UK or move to Australia?

0:02:05 > 0:02:11Jon and Mandi Mills live in the town of Barrow-in-Furness, with their three children.

0:02:11 > 0:02:16Eight-year-old Lily, Grace, who's six and 15-month-old Seth.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20For years, Jon's big dream has been to live in Australia

0:02:20 > 0:02:24and he was set to move there until he met Mandi and they started a family.

0:02:24 > 0:02:30Certainly since I was 19 it's always been a passion of mine to go there and settle down.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32It sounds like a fantastic place to live.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36Mandi's never even left the UK, so the idea of emigrating

0:02:36 > 0:02:39to the other side of the world is a massive undertaking for her.

0:02:39 > 0:02:43I've lived in Barrow for 27 years, my whole life.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Never really ventured anywhere else.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48You get small-town mentality, I think.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52But she's determined to make a better life for their children.

0:02:52 > 0:02:57I think with Barrow, when they've left school, they can go and work in the shipyard or there's the hospital

0:02:57 > 0:03:00and then it's more or less supermarkets.

0:03:00 > 0:03:05And I'd quite like to widen that field and give them more opportunity.

0:03:05 > 0:03:11Although Lily and Grace seem more concerned about encountering the Aussie wildlife.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13We know that there's koala bears.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16We know that there's maybe snakes.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18Spiders.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20Lots of jellyfish.

0:03:20 > 0:03:25Jon works in the shipbuilding industry as a quality control engineer.

0:03:25 > 0:03:30But Mandi's worried that a move to Oz would mean a step backwards for him.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32I think with what Jon does, he'd start at the bottom,

0:03:32 > 0:03:35so I do think that he wouldn't have as much money.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39I've come up through the ranks, from electrician up to an inspector

0:03:39 > 0:03:44and I can't imagine anything stopping me making a step again over there.

0:03:44 > 0:03:49Mandi is a stay at home mum and has a lot of support from her family, who she's extremely close to.

0:03:49 > 0:03:55It's nice having my parents living over the road and my friend living just round the corner.

0:03:55 > 0:04:00I think it will be hard for them to adjust, but it's a case of it's sort of my time now with my family

0:04:00 > 0:04:05and I can't stick around in the same place forever just in case I upset people, I suppose.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08Jon and Mandi haven't experienced anything like this before

0:04:08 > 0:04:12and they're keen to see what Australia has to offer.

0:04:12 > 0:04:1635 years I've lived here, so it's time for a change. Time to see the rest of the world.

0:04:16 > 0:04:22It's just something different than living in Barrow for the rest of our lives.

0:04:22 > 0:04:30I don't want to sit on my sofa, in Barrow, in 20 years' time and think why didn't we try something else?

0:04:30 > 0:04:36Barrow isn't the be all and end all. It's a lovely place, but there are other places out there we can live.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39I don't want to ever regret not trying it.

0:04:39 > 0:04:44But Mandi's far from convinced and it could still end in tears for Jon.

0:04:44 > 0:04:52We've got to make it as a family decision and yes, I will try to put pressure on Mandi, slightly,

0:04:52 > 0:04:57to go, but there's no point in us making that huge financial commitment to go

0:04:57 > 0:05:02if we're going to turn round and say, "No, I don't like it, I need to go back."

0:05:02 > 0:05:04But we both have to decide.

0:05:04 > 0:05:08I'm not going to be bullied into shifting my whole family

0:05:08 > 0:05:12over to the other side of the world for Jon's dream.

0:05:12 > 0:05:13Yeah, you are!

0:05:17 > 0:05:22To help the Mills make the right decision, we offered them the ultimate challenge -

0:05:22 > 0:05:24a trip to Adelaide in South Australia.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32We have three different lifestyles for the family to sample.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36One in the country, one in the city and one on the coast.

0:05:36 > 0:05:41Each with an offer of a job and a brand new way of life for them to enjoy on their budget.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44First, let's take a look at the country lifestyle.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48With Belair National Park on your doorstep,

0:05:48 > 0:05:51the Adelaide countryside is great for nature watching.

0:05:51 > 0:05:58And if wine tasting whets your palate, you're just going to love it up in the Adelaide hills.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01Country properties are cheaper than in the city.

0:06:01 > 0:06:06Four-bedroom homes, like these, will cost up to £220,000.

0:06:06 > 0:06:12A job at this ship construction company will earn you around £25,000 a year.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16Manager Marijan Glamocak tells us more.

0:06:16 > 0:06:18This is a family-owned business.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20My father started this in 1982.

0:06:20 > 0:06:24Our normal working day starts at 7:30 and finishes at four.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27Gives you plenty of time to see the rest of Adelaide.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30Next time you're in Adelaide, Jon, come and visit us?

0:06:30 > 0:06:33So that's the kind of lifestyle they can enjoy in the country.

0:06:33 > 0:06:37Let's see what's possible in the city, on their budget.

0:06:38 > 0:06:41With its festivals, museums and galleries,

0:06:41 > 0:06:43Adelaide is a city of diverse culture

0:06:43 > 0:06:46with plenty of entertainment, too, in the buzzing West End.

0:06:47 > 0:06:54In the city suburbs, three-bedroom homes can be found for around £230,000.

0:06:54 > 0:07:01A range of shopping experiences is close by, from the central malls and markets to hip local high streets.

0:07:01 > 0:07:08Over in Port Adelaide, there's a salary of at least £28,000 on offer at a submarine construction company.

0:07:08 > 0:07:12Here's quality control manager, David West, to tell us more.

0:07:12 > 0:07:15I bet you're dying to see what goes on here so let me show you around.

0:07:15 > 0:07:19Here we are in the control room of the submarine.

0:07:19 > 0:07:24Working on this is a big undertaking and we're looking for somebody who's up to the challenge.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28Come to wonderful Adelaide and work on these awesome stealthy machines.

0:07:28 > 0:07:33It looks like their life could shape up pretty well in the city, but what about a new life on the coast?

0:07:39 > 0:07:45The stunning unspoilt beaches of Adelaide will literally take your breath away.

0:07:45 > 0:07:50To lap up coastal living to the max, a family home within

0:07:50 > 0:07:55walking distance to the beach will set you back around £220,000.

0:07:58 > 0:08:04A job at a local pleasure boat manufacturer will earn you a salary of up to £25,000.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07Jason Sims is the general manager.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10This is just a small part of our team here at Port River Marine.

0:08:10 > 0:08:14They're all proud of what they do, including building a vessel

0:08:14 > 0:08:17which took the 2008 Boat Of The Year award earlier this year.

0:08:17 > 0:08:18Here's the vessel here.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22It might be a little bit smaller scale than what you're used to,

0:08:22 > 0:08:24but if you like what you see, pay us a visit.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29So, there were three lifestyles on offer.

0:08:29 > 0:08:33The country option where wages are lower, but so are property prices.

0:08:33 > 0:08:38The city option where the salary is higher, but so is the property.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41Or the coast option where Jon wouldn't earn as much,

0:08:41 > 0:08:44but the lifestyle would be right up his street.

0:08:44 > 0:08:48So three very different possibilities for our family to try.

0:08:48 > 0:08:51So which one did we decide would suit them best?

0:08:59 > 0:09:03We chose the city option for the Mills' week in Australia.

0:09:03 > 0:09:06There's still a great deal for them to think about.

0:09:06 > 0:09:11Jon's desperate for the family to up sticks and head out to a new life Down Under.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14But in the week ahead, the only thing standing

0:09:14 > 0:09:18between him and his ambition to move permanently, is Mandi.

0:09:21 > 0:09:25After a gruelling 22-hour flight, it's not off to a great start.

0:09:25 > 0:09:29These were all right. He wouldn't sleep while everyone else was trying to sleep,

0:09:29 > 0:09:31so it was a nightmare.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34We're filthy. We haven't washed for days.

0:09:38 > 0:09:43The Mills are staying in a house in the suburb of Dulwich, right near the city and a great location

0:09:43 > 0:09:46for exploring what Adelaide has to offer.

0:09:52 > 0:09:56This traditional one-storey house has old world charm by the bucket load.

0:09:56 > 0:09:59Ooh, very nice.

0:09:59 > 0:10:02It's got three double bedrooms.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04Oh, who'll be having this bedroom?

0:10:04 > 0:10:06It's massive. We'll have that.

0:10:06 > 0:10:07It's my room!

0:10:07 > 0:10:10A large dining room and two living rooms.

0:10:10 > 0:10:12This is pretty.

0:10:12 > 0:10:16- There's even a jacuzzi in the bathroom.- Bath. Yeah.

0:10:16 > 0:10:18Or is it a swimming pool?

0:10:20 > 0:10:23- Fantastic.- It's bigger than I thought it was going to be.

0:10:23 > 0:10:25- It's all on one level, as well. - Yeah.

0:10:25 > 0:10:27It's weird not having stairs.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30We'll miss stairs.

0:10:30 > 0:10:35And to top it all, a decent sized garden for the kids to run around in.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38- Wow. It's a parrot.- Two of them.

0:10:38 > 0:10:42So, how does Australia live up to Jon's expectations, so far?

0:10:42 > 0:10:46Yes. Can't stop smiling, really. You know, it's good to be here.

0:10:46 > 0:10:52For Mandi though, the enormity of what they're considering is beginning to hit home.

0:10:52 > 0:10:55To come out here is a really big deal.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58One, because it could change the rest of our lives,

0:10:58 > 0:11:03so, you know, to make that journey, was massive,

0:11:03 > 0:11:06especially as we've never been out of Barrow before.

0:11:06 > 0:11:10So to make that huge journey was huge, but it is to do with the rest

0:11:10 > 0:11:14of our lives, so it was a journey that needed to be made.

0:11:14 > 0:11:18And Jon's aware that the week ahead holds a big challenge.

0:11:18 > 0:11:20I'll try and do some persuading.

0:11:20 > 0:11:22Stop the heartstrings being tugged from home.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27Never. Never.

0:11:27 > 0:11:33There's a lot to think about, but one thing that might persuade Mandi is the property and tomorrow,

0:11:33 > 0:11:38they'll find out whether the houses here are enough to prise her away from home in Barrow.

0:11:43 > 0:11:47Back in the northern shipbuilding town of Barrow-in-Furness,

0:11:47 > 0:11:52the Mills family live in a three-bedroom terraced house, worth about £100,000.

0:11:52 > 0:11:58They've set themselves a budget of about £170,000, including a mortgage.

0:11:58 > 0:12:05That's around 350,000 Australian dollars, which may prove unrealistic for what they want.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07We're showing the Mills three properties,

0:12:07 > 0:12:13all slightly over their initial budget and, to afford any of them, they would need a mortgage.

0:12:13 > 0:12:18The first house is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom property, close to the city centre.

0:12:18 > 0:12:23It also has the all-important swimming pool, but at 490,000,

0:12:23 > 0:12:28or approximately £240,000, they'd really have to stretch themselves.

0:12:28 > 0:12:29It's a nice house, eh?

0:12:31 > 0:12:32Oh, yes!

0:12:34 > 0:12:38- That's big enough, isn't it?- It's lovely.- Some cooking done on there.

0:12:38 > 0:12:43- Ah, this is pretty, isn't it? - It's nice.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46- Got wardrobes, fitted wardrobes. - Lot of storage.- Very nice.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49- I do like this bathroom. - White room?- Yeah.

0:12:49 > 0:12:52Somewhere for me to relax, love, after a hard day's work.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55- Yeah. You could make it into a family room, couldn't you?- No.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58- You could have a sofa. - It's a pool table room.

0:12:58 > 0:13:00You could have it as a dining room, as well.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02No. You can have it as a pool table room.

0:13:02 > 0:13:08Apart from arguing about the use of the room, Jon and Mandi seem to be really impressed by this house.

0:13:08 > 0:13:11But is that the same for young Seth, too?

0:13:11 > 0:13:13- Like it?- Yeah.- Yes.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16- Do you give it the thumbs up?- Yes. - Come on, then.

0:13:16 > 0:13:20That's lucky, then. Now, how about the outside space?

0:13:20 > 0:13:24Nice big outside patio area.

0:13:24 > 0:13:26It's freezing!

0:13:26 > 0:13:29Look, there's a little area here, Jon.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32- To sit on.- You'll be able to sunbathe - topless!

0:13:34 > 0:13:37Please, Jon, this is a family show.

0:13:37 > 0:13:42Jon already feels at home but is the feeling mutual?

0:13:42 > 0:13:46I like the privacy and the pool, obviously. Kids really wanted a pool.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49Nothing like what we've got at home.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51I like it. I do.

0:13:51 > 0:13:56It's the quintessential Australian house, innit, when you think of Australia?

0:13:56 > 0:13:59Pools. Party area. Big rooms.

0:13:59 > 0:14:04The house appears to be ideal for them, but it's at the very top of their budget.

0:14:04 > 0:14:08I think it's worth it. It's just whether we can stretch that far.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10- Yeah. - I mean, I'd like to think we could,

0:14:10 > 0:14:13even if we have to save up in England for a bit longer.

0:14:13 > 0:14:15But it is only three bedroom,

0:14:15 > 0:14:18which means the kids would be sharing.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20It's got a pool. Did I mention the pool?

0:14:20 > 0:14:21But not if you're bankrupt?

0:14:21 > 0:14:24You could always go swimming. You don't have to go out.

0:14:24 > 0:14:28I think it's brilliant. Certainly, if we can stretch to 490, then.

0:14:28 > 0:14:35- 490. That's about...- 250,000 UK. It's a big stretch, but...

0:14:35 > 0:14:36- It is a big stretch.- Yeah.

0:14:36 > 0:14:39There's trouble with them sharing, aren't there?

0:14:39 > 0:14:41- It's an issue.- Yeah, it is an issue.

0:14:41 > 0:14:43It's a very big issue.

0:14:44 > 0:14:50Although Jon and Mandi like this house, they would need a huge mortgage and it seems such a shame

0:14:50 > 0:14:56to come all the way to Australia and still have your children sharing a bedroom.

0:14:56 > 0:15:01So, with this in mind, the second house they're going to view hopefully has everything.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04It has four bedrooms and a pool, but with an asking price of

0:15:04 > 0:15:11420,000, or £205,000, it's much closer to their original budget.

0:15:11 > 0:15:12- Nice, isn't it?- This is nice.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15Oh, this is nice.

0:15:15 > 0:15:17Nice, isn't it? Nice little table and chairs.

0:15:17 > 0:15:19Open plan. Yeah.

0:15:19 > 0:15:23- Another living area.- This is nice. - This IS nice.

0:15:23 > 0:15:27- You don't have to have it as a dining room. You could have it as a... - Pool room!- Pool room.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30Playroom. Computer room. Study.

0:15:30 > 0:15:34Nice try, Jon, but very quickly, they discover that sometimes,

0:15:34 > 0:15:37having so many bedrooms can mean just one thing.

0:15:37 > 0:15:39Quite cosy though, isn't it?

0:15:39 > 0:15:42- First impressions, it's nice. - Really small baths.

0:15:42 > 0:15:44Really small for you.

0:15:44 > 0:15:49- Shall we try and find your room, Grace? - Yeah.- It's smaller than the others.

0:15:49 > 0:15:53I don't know. It's small, boxy.

0:15:53 > 0:15:58Once you've wardrobes, drawers and a bed, you'll find there won't be a lot of room.

0:15:58 > 0:16:04But Jon, as ever, is the eternal optimist and he doesn't give up without a fight.

0:16:04 > 0:16:07A single bed will take it to the end, you've got storage there.

0:16:07 > 0:16:09There's plenty of room on this side.

0:16:09 > 0:16:12I think you'll find it'd be crowded. Really crowded.

0:16:12 > 0:16:15Where would you put a bed in this room?

0:16:15 > 0:16:17- You couldn't put... - Across ways.

0:16:17 > 0:16:20I think it's small. I think it's a lot small.

0:16:20 > 0:16:24The house with all its problems does offer a few benefits.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27- Got a nice view, haven't they? - Nice to wake up to that every day.

0:16:27 > 0:16:30Something to look at, isn't it?

0:16:30 > 0:16:31Well, this is a nice area.

0:16:31 > 0:16:35- Beautiful view, again.- Yeah.- It's nice. Nice and quiet, as well.

0:16:35 > 0:16:40- It's the same from inside!- Yeah. - It's just that you're outside. Oh, and there's a pool.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43Look at that, Lily. Nice pool.

0:16:43 > 0:16:45A little bar area. A little seating area.

0:16:45 > 0:16:49- Plenty of drinks round the side. It's lovely.- Jacuzzi, isn't it?

0:16:49 > 0:16:51But has it won Mandi over?

0:16:51 > 0:16:57We're coming from little pokey rooms to a house with little pokey rooms...

0:16:57 > 0:16:59The rest of the house is quite nice.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02I think the rooms are a decent size.

0:17:02 > 0:17:07It's a nice living area, but I don't know. It's just I haven't got a feel for it.

0:17:07 > 0:17:11I'm not a great lover. There you go! I'm being a horrible person.

0:17:11 > 0:17:16- If you don't like it, you don't like it.- No, I don't.

0:17:16 > 0:17:19Sorry. I just don't. It's just a bit...

0:17:19 > 0:17:21- Yeah...- Look at the pool.

0:17:21 > 0:17:23- Yeah.- Yeah. Look at the pool.

0:17:23 > 0:17:25The pool's not enough.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27We're not going to live in the pool.

0:17:27 > 0:17:33- We've got a bar.- No. It's just not what I was after.- No?- No.

0:17:39 > 0:17:46Well, we tried, but it seems for the Mills that size DOES matter, and in order to afford

0:17:46 > 0:17:50a larger, four-bedroom property, they'd have to make some compromises.

0:17:53 > 0:17:59For this reason, our next house, set in the rural area of Coromandel Valley, doesn't have a pool,

0:17:59 > 0:18:02but it does have four good-sized bedrooms,

0:18:02 > 0:18:07and at 440,000, that's just over £215,000.

0:18:07 > 0:18:10It's still above their budget.

0:18:10 > 0:18:12Leafy. Come on.

0:18:12 > 0:18:14Oh, it's massive. Look at that.

0:18:14 > 0:18:19- Look at this, Grace.- That's nice. - That's lovely.

0:18:19 > 0:18:21Carpet. Nice plush carpet.

0:18:21 > 0:18:25- I like the different levels. - There's the mother-in-law.

0:18:25 > 0:18:26THEY LAUGH

0:18:26 > 0:18:31- I like it. I like it a lot. - Oh, I like this.

0:18:31 > 0:18:37- It's massive. It's not, like, too big, is it? Just like home. It's lovely.- Oh, it is. I like it.

0:18:37 > 0:18:39I can see myself here.

0:18:39 > 0:18:44- Big area.- I wouldn't know what to do with a big kitchen. I'd have to cook.

0:18:44 > 0:18:49- It's nice and cosy. - Got loads of storage.- Plenty of storage. Oh, Lily, this is nice.

0:18:49 > 0:18:55Think you might have picked your room too early. This is your room, Grace. Like it?

0:18:55 > 0:18:59- It's big. It's lovely.- You can get a double bed in here. Grace might not have this room.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02We could have this room.

0:19:02 > 0:19:06Hold your horses. You haven't seen the master bedroom yet.

0:19:06 > 0:19:09- This is more like it. - Very nice.- That's lovely.

0:19:09 > 0:19:13- Plenty of room. En-suite bathroom. - Yeah, with a shower.

0:19:13 > 0:19:15- With a shower?- Yeah.- Oh, lovely.

0:19:15 > 0:19:16- Very nice.- Yeah.

0:19:16 > 0:19:21Let's look at this...outside area. That's beautiful.

0:19:21 > 0:19:24I wouldn't go that far, Jon(!)

0:19:24 > 0:19:27There's no swimming pool. This is a nice little grassed area.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30Just enough space. Not too much grass.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35- This is beautiful, Grace. Do you like it?- Yeah.

0:19:35 > 0:19:37- Do you really like it?- I love it.

0:19:37 > 0:19:41Even the lack of pool hasn't put them off, but there's always a drawback.

0:19:41 > 0:19:45The only concern I've got is, it's quite far out. It's isolating.

0:19:45 > 0:19:49- You'd have to drive. You'd have to drive to most places.- Yeah.

0:19:49 > 0:19:52Which would be a problem as Mandi hasn't passed her test yet.

0:19:52 > 0:19:56For me, that's the only downside, cos it is beautiful.

0:19:56 > 0:20:00- It's absolutely gorgeous.- Like it. I like this house a lot, actually.

0:20:00 > 0:20:07- Could see myself living in this house.- It's still a lot of money, but you do get a lot for your money.

0:20:07 > 0:20:09I do like this one better.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12Got to say, I do like this one better!

0:20:14 > 0:20:20We've shown the Mills three properties, all of which would be a stretch, financially.

0:20:20 > 0:20:22House number one was tastefully decorated,

0:20:22 > 0:20:28but came with only three bedrooms and was on the market for £240,000.

0:20:28 > 0:20:34Property two had four bedrooms, all a tad on the small side, but was cheaper at £205,000.

0:20:34 > 0:20:41They loved the third house, but would the £215,000 price tag be worth it,

0:20:41 > 0:20:43if they'd feel isolated living there?

0:20:43 > 0:20:45So how will they vote on property?

0:20:45 > 0:20:48UK or Australia?

0:20:48 > 0:20:50We've looked at lots of properties today.

0:20:50 > 0:20:55They've all been in beautiful areas and don't really compare to houses at home,

0:20:55 > 0:20:57so there is really only one choice...

0:20:57 > 0:21:00ALL: Australia!

0:21:00 > 0:21:03Well, four out of five isn't bad.

0:21:07 > 0:21:12Even Mandi preferred the houses in Australia compared to back home.

0:21:12 > 0:21:19But, to make a move, Jon would have to guarantee a secure job which paid enough to fund a new lifestyle.

0:21:21 > 0:21:25Back home in his current job, Jon started off as an apprentice marine electrician

0:21:25 > 0:21:30and has spent the last few years working his way up to a more senior role.

0:21:30 > 0:21:32He earns a salary of just over £30,000.

0:21:32 > 0:21:37He's concerned that, in Australia, this may all change.

0:21:37 > 0:21:42One of the big sacrifices is not getting a position that I'm used to doing at the moment.

0:21:42 > 0:21:45It's starting again at the bottom and working my way up.

0:21:45 > 0:21:50There will be a financial sacrifice, so I may be spending longer hours at work in the first few years.

0:21:50 > 0:21:53Day two, and he's off to road test a job with a company

0:21:53 > 0:21:58who builds and maintains ships and submarines for the Australian Navy.

0:21:58 > 0:22:02And has come to meet quality control manager, David West...

0:22:02 > 0:22:05- Hello, Jon. How are you?- Hi, David. You all right?- Yeah. Good.

0:22:05 > 0:22:08..who offers him a tour around the site.

0:22:09 > 0:22:15While Jon explores his job prospects, Mandi and the kids have a look around

0:22:15 > 0:22:17to see if Adelaide has enough to offer them.

0:22:17 > 0:22:20It was Jon's dream to come to Australia.

0:22:20 > 0:22:24He's always wanted to move to Australia, always wanted to start a life in Australia,

0:22:24 > 0:22:30even before he met me, so opportunity came along and here we are.

0:22:30 > 0:22:35It might be Jon's dream but the decision to move would be a joint one.

0:22:35 > 0:22:38Is Mandi really prepared to give up her life in the UK?

0:22:38 > 0:22:45If Jon came back from work and said, "This is it, I really want to do this, I love it, let's do it,"

0:22:45 > 0:22:51we'd have to do a lot of talking. I couldn't just move here just because Jon enjoys the work,

0:22:51 > 0:22:58which sounds selfish, possibly, on my part, but yeah, I'd need a little bit more

0:22:58 > 0:23:05than just Jon enjoying his work, to be honest, because there's more of us in the family than just Jon.

0:23:05 > 0:23:06OK. Well, my department...

0:23:06 > 0:23:12Back at work, Jon's finding out about the differences between his job in the UK and here in Australia.

0:23:12 > 0:23:17Here's the control room. As you can see, it's in the middle of the maintenance activity,

0:23:17 > 0:23:22so there's a fair bit of equipment removed. Periscopes, consoles are out getting maintained.

0:23:22 > 0:23:26How do you see the transition being from the UK to Australia?

0:23:26 > 0:23:31OK. Well, my understanding of how things are done in the UK is that it's a very similar approach

0:23:31 > 0:23:35to how it's done in Australia, the way we build submarines and the way we maintain them.

0:23:35 > 0:23:40- I think you'll fit in well and I think the transition will be very easy for you.- Good.

0:23:40 > 0:23:46But his biggest concern is whether he'd have to start at a lower level, which would mean a drop in salary.

0:23:46 > 0:23:51If Jon could get a role comparable to his in the UK, it could be all systems go.

0:23:51 > 0:23:55In my department, there's a number of avenues that you could explore.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58- Yep.- So there's plenty of work and plenty of security.

0:23:58 > 0:24:02- Excellent. That's one of the things I was worried about most.- OK. Good.

0:24:02 > 0:24:04That's a relief.

0:24:04 > 0:24:09David's arranged for Jon to meet up with an ex-colleague from a shipyard in Barrow.

0:24:09 > 0:24:13Can he reassure Jon that moving his family here would be a safe bet?

0:24:13 > 0:24:16- Hey, mate. You all right? - How you doing?- All right, mate.

0:24:16 > 0:24:20- All right?- Yeah.- Good to see you. - They've been looking after you? - Yeah.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24You've been here for five years. So, obviously, you've settled in now.

0:24:24 > 0:24:27You'll meet lots of people through the school with the kids.

0:24:27 > 0:24:32Once the kids start doing sport activities, stuff like that. It's life-changing,

0:24:32 > 0:24:34moving from Barrow, where it's...

0:24:34 > 0:24:38freezing cold and dark when you go to work and dark when you come home.

0:24:38 > 0:24:39It's nothing like in the UK.

0:24:39 > 0:24:45Generally, you just spend most of your time round people's houses, having barbecues in the back yards,

0:24:45 > 0:24:51you'll go to the beach with the kids or you'll go for a picnic or just watch the sunset.

0:24:51 > 0:24:56- There's plenty of time to do that, as well?- Oh, yeah. Yeah. This is a huge change for you, mate.

0:24:56 > 0:24:59- I have to get going, anyway, so see you later.- Catch up.- Yeah.

0:24:59 > 0:25:03Mandi, on the other hand, is not so sure.

0:25:03 > 0:25:09With no ready-made social life, it would be a huge change from what she's used to at home.

0:25:09 > 0:25:12Family's really important to me, I think.

0:25:12 > 0:25:16To have that little group of people you really trust and know,

0:25:16 > 0:25:21and just somebody to fall back on and be there for you when you're really low and need somebody.

0:25:21 > 0:25:25And I think that it could be quite isolating, here, for me.

0:25:25 > 0:25:29Children obviously make friends at school. Jon'll make friends at work.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31I'll be left with, well, me.

0:25:31 > 0:25:36I would need a lot of convincing to want to make a whole new life here.

0:25:36 > 0:25:42A lot of convincing... on Jon's part, for me to give it a go, I think.

0:25:42 > 0:25:49So Jon has a big task ahead of him, but having spent a positive day at work, things are looking good.

0:25:49 > 0:25:55My main concern was coming in at a lower level than what I'm used to, working in the UK.

0:25:55 > 0:25:59Over here, David certainly gave the impression that the work was very similar,

0:25:59 > 0:26:03and they do have a similar level that I'm doing now.

0:26:03 > 0:26:09It's just a matter of learning systems, processes and standards, so I've got no worries any more.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12- And how would he fit in? - Oh, that won't be a problem at all.

0:26:12 > 0:26:17We've got a number of lads over here from the UK, and so we're used to the UK guys and they're used to us.

0:26:17 > 0:26:21They get used to us pretty quickly, so there'll be no problem there.

0:26:21 > 0:26:25The transition will be short and easy and, yes, I reckon he'd fit in just fine.

0:26:25 > 0:26:31That all sounds great, and with a salary similar to what he earns in the UK, how will Jon vote?

0:26:31 > 0:26:37So, people seem really friendly. Building submarines - that's very similar to what I'm doing at home.

0:26:37 > 0:26:39Basically, there's only one choice...

0:26:39 > 0:26:41Australia!

0:26:45 > 0:26:50While the rest of the world begins to slow down, the Australian economy remains pretty strong

0:26:50 > 0:26:53and the skills shortage is still very much in evidence.

0:26:53 > 0:26:55But what's driving it?

0:26:55 > 0:27:00The Australian mining companies are digging for copper, uranium, iron ore and zinc.

0:27:00 > 0:27:02There is a massive demand

0:27:02 > 0:27:07for Australian minerals by the world, particularly by China,

0:27:07 > 0:27:11so the opportunities available in Australia are enormous.

0:27:11 > 0:27:16And it's not just miners that stand to benefit from the boom.

0:27:16 > 0:27:20In the cities of Australia, there is, of course,

0:27:20 > 0:27:24big growth in the support industries for mining.

0:27:24 > 0:27:31What we're saying to people is, is that now we are really recruiting around the world to get IT people,

0:27:31 > 0:27:37engineers, mechanics, chefs, police officers, nurses,

0:27:37 > 0:27:41to provide the support for this mining expansion,

0:27:41 > 0:27:47- so what we're seeing is the lowest unemployment ever, highest number of people in a job.- Crikey!

0:27:47 > 0:27:51With unemployment at around 4%, maybe we should all move over there!

0:27:51 > 0:27:54Australia is very much a migrant nation.

0:27:54 > 0:28:00We're the most migrant nation in the world and people have come here to be part of Australia's development,

0:28:00 > 0:28:06so people have got get up and go, come to Australia and be part of something really exciting,

0:28:06 > 0:28:11but also, having a great lifestyle for themselves and their kids.

0:28:16 > 0:28:22Jon and Mandi Mills are divided in their views about a move down under.

0:28:22 > 0:28:25Jon is adamant that Australia could offer them a brilliant new life.

0:28:25 > 0:28:31Certainly, since I was 19, it's always been a passion of mine to go there and settle down.

0:28:31 > 0:28:38But Mandi's not sure she's ready to move away from the friends and family she's so close to in the UK.

0:28:38 > 0:28:41It's nice having my parents living over the road

0:28:41 > 0:28:46and my friend living round the corner and it'll really upset me. It'll be heart-wrenching to leave.

0:28:46 > 0:28:53Jon's challenge has been to win Mandi over to his way of thinking, but it hasn't been easy...

0:28:53 > 0:28:55- This is Seth's room.- Different.

0:28:55 > 0:29:01We're coming from little pokey rooms to a house with little pokey rooms...

0:29:01 > 0:29:03The rest of the house is quite nice.

0:29:03 > 0:29:08- If you don't like it, you don't like it.- No. I don't. Sorry. I just don't.

0:29:08 > 0:29:11..and striking the right balance is a definite struggle.

0:29:11 > 0:29:17I don't want to push her, cos if I push her and she doesn't like it, it's just going to turn so nasty,

0:29:17 > 0:29:19and that's one thing I want to avoid.

0:29:19 > 0:29:25Will hearing messages from friends and family back home make the decision to move even harder?

0:29:25 > 0:29:28That was horrible.

0:29:32 > 0:29:36Australia - the land of sun and surf.

0:29:36 > 0:29:39Well, not today, it isn't.

0:29:39 > 0:29:46Unfortunately for Jon, Adelaide, situated in the driest state, in the driest inhabited country on Earth,

0:29:46 > 0:29:51is suffering one of its coldest and wettest Augusts on record,

0:29:51 > 0:29:56and convincing Mandi to move on a day like today may be a tall order.

0:29:56 > 0:29:59So maybe Jon can work on the kids.

0:29:59 > 0:30:04They're off to Gumeracha Toy Factory, home to the world's biggest rocking horse,

0:30:04 > 0:30:08where maybe they can escape the worst of the weather.

0:30:08 > 0:30:10- Go up the stairs.- Cold...

0:30:10 > 0:30:13It's like being in England.

0:30:13 > 0:30:14SHE LAUGHS

0:30:14 > 0:30:17It's just a bit cold and damp at the moment.

0:30:17 > 0:30:20Yeah. We really weren't expecting it to be like this,

0:30:20 > 0:30:22but we're all right. The rain might hold off.

0:30:22 > 0:30:25It might stop. You never know.

0:30:25 > 0:30:29It is a bit of a reality check, that it's not all roses and sunny over here.

0:30:29 > 0:30:34And, you know, Adelaide's meant to be one of the driest states, and today's just proved it wrong.

0:30:34 > 0:30:38Do I detect a bit of doubt creeping in there, Jon?

0:30:38 > 0:30:40Shall we go to the horse? Yeah?

0:30:41 > 0:30:46Eventually the skies do brighten and so does Jon's outlook.

0:30:46 > 0:30:47All the way.

0:30:55 > 0:30:59I never thought I'd see kangaroos as soft and as gentle as this.

0:30:59 > 0:31:03I always assumed that they were fairly wild animals

0:31:03 > 0:31:07that run wild all the time. Just to see them like this

0:31:07 > 0:31:10is really nice and for the girls to feed them...

0:31:10 > 0:31:13I don't think they realise it yet, but it's a dream come true for them.

0:31:13 > 0:31:16You know, feeding kangaroos in Australia...

0:31:16 > 0:31:18doesn't get any cooler, does it?

0:31:18 > 0:31:19I think Jon loves it.

0:31:19 > 0:31:23I think Jon really, really enjoys anything to do with Australia.

0:31:23 > 0:31:26I think you could have took him anywhere and he'd have loved it,

0:31:26 > 0:31:30cos he really wants to live here and I don't think that

0:31:30 > 0:31:32anything will put him off, to be honest.

0:31:32 > 0:31:34I like the lifestyle. Certainly

0:31:34 > 0:31:37all the people that I've spoke to have always pushed the lifestyle.

0:31:37 > 0:31:40So no guessing how Jon feels.

0:31:40 > 0:31:42But are they starting to be of the same opinion?

0:31:42 > 0:31:45I'm thinking that she's liking it a lot more.

0:31:45 > 0:31:50I think she's softening to the "moving to Australia" thing.

0:31:50 > 0:31:52I'd like to think that, anyway.

0:31:52 > 0:31:57Everything I know, everything familiar, is back in England.

0:31:57 > 0:31:59It's just a case of...

0:31:59 > 0:32:02struggling with my head and my heart, I think, more than anything.

0:32:02 > 0:32:06I'm not trying to push her in any way, but obviously, I'm

0:32:06 > 0:32:11still trying my best to subtly say, Mandi, this is nice.

0:32:11 > 0:32:13You know, we can do this.

0:32:15 > 0:32:17I'm missing my mum and dad, a lot.

0:32:17 > 0:32:19If I came back to England and said

0:32:19 > 0:32:24that I wanted to make a life in Australia, they'd be devastated.

0:32:24 > 0:32:27So that's another thing that chokes me up a little bit.

0:32:32 > 0:32:35Family's really important to me.

0:32:47 > 0:32:49Hello!

0:32:49 > 0:32:52It's trying to keep everybody happy, but also in the best interests

0:32:52 > 0:32:55of us and our little family, so it's just for Jon.

0:32:55 > 0:32:57Jon wanted to change.

0:32:57 > 0:33:01Jon wanted a new start, so I said we'd go and give it a go.

0:33:01 > 0:33:04And I'd give it my best shot and that's all I can do.

0:33:04 > 0:33:07At the end of the day, all I can do is give it my best shot.

0:33:07 > 0:33:11Jon is understanding when it comes to Mandi's point of view.

0:33:11 > 0:33:13It's got to be a joint decision,

0:33:13 > 0:33:16otherwise, it's on the other side of the world

0:33:16 > 0:33:18and to be stuck somewhere where you have no friends

0:33:18 > 0:33:21and you don't even want to be is just too much.

0:33:21 > 0:33:23It's got to be her decision to want to come.

0:33:23 > 0:33:26My main goal is to keep the family together and happy.

0:33:26 > 0:33:30And if it means that I don't get to fulfil my dream then I'm

0:33:30 > 0:33:32going to have to live with it.

0:33:32 > 0:33:36The day at the toy factory has given the Mills some quality outdoor life

0:33:36 > 0:33:40that they say they want more of, but also, a lot to think about.

0:33:40 > 0:33:42So how will they vote on lifestyle?

0:33:42 > 0:33:45The weather's been quite comparable to the UK with sun and showers.

0:33:45 > 0:33:49We've enjoyed feeding the kangaroos and the other animals.

0:33:49 > 0:33:51So our vote today's going to be...

0:33:53 > 0:33:54- UK!- Australia.- Australia!

0:34:01 > 0:34:03As their week in Adelaide comes to

0:34:03 > 0:34:06an end, has Mandi been won over by what Australia has to offer?

0:34:06 > 0:34:11I've actually found Australia to be not actually what I was expecting.

0:34:11 > 0:34:14I think it was slightly better than what I was expecting.

0:34:14 > 0:34:17To be honest, I think I was naive in thinking that Australia

0:34:17 > 0:34:20would be England, but warmer, but it's really not, at all.

0:34:20 > 0:34:22It's nothing like England.

0:34:22 > 0:34:25It feels a bit friendlier than a city you'd get at home.

0:34:25 > 0:34:27More people chat and talk to you!

0:34:27 > 0:34:30At the end of the day, I know she's had the taste.

0:34:30 > 0:34:31I think it's just a matter of time, now.

0:34:31 > 0:34:35I'd like to think it was a matter of time before she decided, yeah,

0:34:35 > 0:34:36it's the place I want to be.

0:34:36 > 0:34:40As regards to a future life in Australia, my heart is saying

0:34:40 > 0:34:45go home, because everything you know is there. It's comfortable there.

0:34:45 > 0:34:47Friends and family are there.

0:34:47 > 0:34:52My head is saying stay in Australia, cos it's a new opportunity.

0:34:52 > 0:34:54A new life. New beginning.

0:34:54 > 0:35:00But my heart's slightly ruling at the moment, I'm afraid.

0:35:00 > 0:35:03But yeah, there's definitely a pull for both.

0:35:03 > 0:35:05But I think that my heartstrings

0:35:05 > 0:35:09pull a little bit more than my head, to be honest!

0:35:09 > 0:35:12If Mandi did say no, that's it, definitely not,

0:35:12 > 0:35:14I would be sort of devastated.

0:35:18 > 0:35:22Despite Mandi's doubts, Jon remains convinced that Australia

0:35:22 > 0:35:25could offer the best possible future for the family.

0:35:25 > 0:35:29But will he be quite so sure when he hears from loved ones back home?

0:35:33 > 0:35:34'Hello, Jon...

0:35:34 > 0:35:35'and Mandi.

0:35:35 > 0:35:38'Lily. Grace. And Seth.

0:35:39 > 0:35:45'If you do stay in Australia, we want you to take the best shot at it.

0:35:45 > 0:35:48'Make it the best shot you possible can.'

0:35:48 > 0:35:54'I hope everything goes fine for you. I miss you very much.'

0:35:54 > 0:35:57'Jon's brilliant. I'm so proud of him. He didn't have

0:35:57 > 0:35:59'the best start in life and it's wonderful.

0:35:59 > 0:36:03'He's a smashing lad. He gets on with people.

0:36:03 > 0:36:06'He's very studious. And he's a good craftsman.'

0:36:06 > 0:36:08'Oh, Mandi's smashing.

0:36:08 > 0:36:10'She's absolutely brilliant.

0:36:10 > 0:36:14'She's a good girl. You know, I'd be totally lost if she decides to go.'

0:36:14 > 0:36:16'Both our mums were dinner ladies

0:36:16 > 0:36:21'in work together, and we used to go to Mandi's house for lunch and

0:36:21 > 0:36:24'sometimes we used to jig school

0:36:24 > 0:36:28'because our mums were at work and we used to stay at Mandi's house.'

0:36:28 > 0:36:32'On Christmas day, or over Christmas they'd look after me very well.

0:36:32 > 0:36:35'They'd even give me a taxi home if I'd drunk too much.

0:36:35 > 0:36:39'Lily, Gracie and Seth. Like all grandparents,

0:36:39 > 0:36:42'I think they're the best thing since sliced bread.

0:36:42 > 0:36:45'It would be quite a thing, for them not to be there.

0:36:45 > 0:36:47'It'd break my heart, to be honest.'

0:36:47 > 0:36:50'I think, when they go away, they're going to get homesick,

0:36:50 > 0:36:54'and that's going to be the crucial point for them.'

0:36:54 > 0:36:57'I understand Mandi's...

0:36:57 > 0:37:02'reluctance and hesitation about leaving Barrow.

0:37:02 > 0:37:04'It's a big step for her.

0:37:04 > 0:37:05'It's a big step for them all.

0:37:05 > 0:37:08'If you don't take a step, you're never going to find out

0:37:08 > 0:37:10'what's further along the path for you.'

0:37:10 > 0:37:13'I mean, Jon'll be at work and the kids'll adapt fine.

0:37:13 > 0:37:17'I think it'll be a great life for them, but I worry if Mandi,

0:37:17 > 0:37:20'with being at home with the kids, I worry if she gets isolated.

0:37:20 > 0:37:22'If they're not there...

0:37:24 > 0:37:27'..it'll be like a bereavement.'

0:37:27 > 0:37:30'I can't just, "Oh, I'll just go see the girls..."

0:37:30 > 0:37:32'It'll just seem such a dramatic change.'

0:37:32 > 0:37:35'Also, I'll miss them when the kids are in a school play

0:37:35 > 0:37:37'and they come and ask me to go.

0:37:37 > 0:37:39'I'll miss them there, too.'

0:37:39 > 0:37:43My family is my family. That's what I do.

0:37:43 > 0:37:45That's what I'm about. It's my family.

0:37:45 > 0:37:48To be without them, doesn't bear thinking about.

0:37:52 > 0:37:56'Mandi, I'm really going to miss you if you go and live in Australia,

0:37:56 > 0:37:58'but enough of my selfish needs and wants.

0:37:58 > 0:38:02'If you decide to stay in Australia, I'm 100% behind you.'

0:38:02 > 0:38:05'Well, it's me again.

0:38:05 > 0:38:08'I hope you've seen plenty of sights in Australia.

0:38:08 > 0:38:11'I've missed you and I hope to see you soon.'

0:38:11 > 0:38:17'Life, for me... will be entirely different,

0:38:17 > 0:38:21'but if that's what it takes for you to be happy...

0:38:23 > 0:38:25'..that's what matters.

0:38:27 > 0:38:29'I can't say anything else.'

0:38:35 > 0:38:38That was horrible, wasn't it?

0:38:45 > 0:38:47Your mum was obviously devastated

0:38:47 > 0:38:52just at the thought of us not being in close proximity to her.

0:38:52 > 0:38:54Cos when my mum's chicks fell out the nest,

0:38:54 > 0:38:56they only fell slightly out the nest.

0:38:56 > 0:39:00They didn't fly the nest... quite.

0:39:00 > 0:39:01How selfish is your mum?

0:39:01 > 0:39:03I know. She's horrible, isn't she?

0:39:03 > 0:39:05A horrible woman.

0:39:06 > 0:39:10I'll be devastated but you'll be happy.

0:39:10 > 0:39:11I feel guilty.

0:39:11 > 0:39:18I feel really awful for...putting them through that, I suppose.

0:39:18 > 0:39:23I didn't expect anything less than there to be a lot of tears

0:39:23 > 0:39:26and a lot of upset at this point.

0:39:26 > 0:39:28Grace, it's all right.

0:39:28 > 0:39:32If we weren't crying, I'd think there was something wrong, you know?

0:39:32 > 0:39:34It's natural to miss them...

0:39:36 > 0:39:42..but I still believe that being in Australia is the right thing for us.

0:39:46 > 0:39:49It's been a challenging week for the Mills family, who are

0:39:49 > 0:39:51thinking of starting a new life

0:39:51 > 0:39:54many thousands of miles away from their home in Cumbria.

0:39:54 > 0:39:57When they've left school, they can go work in the shipyard,

0:39:57 > 0:40:00or the hospital, and I'd quite like to widen that field

0:40:00 > 0:40:03and give them more opportunity.

0:40:03 > 0:40:06The trip's fulfilled Jon's hopes that Oz could provide

0:40:06 > 0:40:07them with a better life.

0:40:07 > 0:40:11I don't think they realise yet - it's a dream come true for them.

0:40:11 > 0:40:14Feeding kangaroos in Australia - doesn't get any cooler, does it?

0:40:14 > 0:40:17But he hasn't had the best of luck.

0:40:17 > 0:40:20Even the normally reliable Aussie weather has been against him.

0:40:20 > 0:40:25It is a bit of a reality check. It's not all roses and sunny over here.

0:40:25 > 0:40:27After a lot of searching, they found a property

0:40:27 > 0:40:29Mandi felt she could call home.

0:40:29 > 0:40:32- I like it. I like it a lot. - Oh, I like this.

0:40:32 > 0:40:36I could see myself living in this house.

0:40:36 > 0:40:38But with her heartstrings being tugged from the other side

0:40:38 > 0:40:43of the world, persuading Mandi to move was always going to be tricky.

0:40:43 > 0:40:46I'm missing my mum and dad. If I came back to England and said

0:40:46 > 0:40:51that I wanted to make a life in Australia, they'd be devastated.

0:40:51 > 0:40:54The Mills are now in a difficult situation.

0:40:54 > 0:40:58Can Jon accept his life in the UK isn't that bad,

0:40:58 > 0:41:01or will Mandi acknowledge the possibility of a future beyond home?

0:41:01 > 0:41:03It's crunch time.

0:41:03 > 0:41:07How will they vote overall? To move to Australia, or to stay in the UK?

0:41:07 > 0:41:11We've had a wonderful week in Australia, where we tasted

0:41:11 > 0:41:15the lifestyle, seen plenty of people and tasted the work, as well.

0:41:15 > 0:41:19The Mills family vote for Australian life and living is...

0:41:21 > 0:41:23- UK.- Australia!- UK!

0:41:25 > 0:41:30Oh, dear, it's a very mixed vote and as the Mills pack to leave for home,

0:41:30 > 0:41:34it's time to reflect on the painful reality of a family split

0:41:34 > 0:41:35on this massive decision.

0:41:35 > 0:41:39I'm going to be devastated to go back to the UK, to be honest.

0:41:39 > 0:41:42It's a beautiful place and I've got good friends there,

0:41:42 > 0:41:44got good work colleagues, but...

0:41:44 > 0:41:48I honestly believe that I should be in Australia and this is a place

0:41:48 > 0:41:50that I've always meant to be, as well.

0:41:50 > 0:41:53I like the people. I like the place.

0:41:53 > 0:41:56I like the country. And it was a dream come true coming here.

0:41:56 > 0:41:57With the girls,

0:41:57 > 0:42:01I think that this has been a really good experience for them.

0:42:01 > 0:42:04But saying that, Barrow's...

0:42:04 > 0:42:08that's their life, that's what they know, that's where they live.

0:42:08 > 0:42:10They don't really know much else outside of

0:42:10 > 0:42:12that sort of life, that community.

0:42:12 > 0:42:14It's a bit heart-wrenching to think

0:42:14 > 0:42:17that my dream's here and yet I'm in the UK.

0:42:20 > 0:42:24But until Mandi makes that decision, I'm going to have to live with it.

0:42:26 > 0:42:29I think he'll be disappointed,

0:42:29 > 0:42:32but I don't think it'll actually change anything.

0:42:32 > 0:42:34It's not as if we've got an horrendous life at home

0:42:34 > 0:42:38and everything's going wrong at home and this is our only escape route.

0:42:38 > 0:42:41It's not a case of that. It was his dream.

0:42:41 > 0:42:44Well, it is his dream, his big dream.

0:42:44 > 0:42:47But, I'm going to sound really awful when I say this,

0:42:47 > 0:42:52I'm not going to feel guilty, though, because we're a family and you can't.

0:42:52 > 0:42:55Your dreams have got to start together really, haven't they?

0:42:55 > 0:42:56And not just one person.

0:42:56 > 0:43:02Australia's where I want to be and that's where I want to end up.

0:43:06 > 0:43:09I could see she had serious doubts to start off with

0:43:09 > 0:43:12and throughout the week it was practically impossible

0:43:12 > 0:43:15to convince Mandi that moving to Australia was for her.

0:43:15 > 0:43:19But Jon, well, he still harbours a dream that one day he'll come

0:43:19 > 0:43:21where he's Wanted Down Under.
