0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello and welcome to Wanted Down Under,

0:00:05 > 0:00:11the show that catapults a British family right across to the other side of the world

0:00:11 > 0:00:14to help them make the biggest decision of their life.

0:00:14 > 0:00:18Peel and Zoe Mehra have big dreams for baby Archie

0:00:18 > 0:00:23and they all include the sun, sand, sea and surf Down Under.

0:00:23 > 0:00:27But the reality of house-hunting in Australia comes as a great shock.

0:00:27 > 0:00:32- We could move in here...- It is, but us, we'd have to spend money on it.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35I'd want to modernise the kitchen and bathroom.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37And have they really thought about how their move

0:00:37 > 0:00:41to the other side of the world would affect their loved ones?

0:00:41 > 0:00:45I think we'd miss Archie more than anything in the world. He is lovely.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47He's my world, he really is.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49It's just really hard.

0:00:50 > 0:00:57So will their idea of the Australian dream tempt the Mehra family to go where they're Wanted Down Under?

0:01:18 > 0:01:24With the economy competing with the weather for the gloomiest forecast to the UK, it's not surprising that

0:01:24 > 0:01:28the Mehras are tempted by the sunny blue skies of Australia.

0:01:28 > 0:01:34If you're under 45 and with a skill that's in demand, you could be packing your bags

0:01:34 > 0:01:39for a new life Down Under, but what goes into making such a massive, life-changing decision?

0:01:39 > 0:01:43We've put the dreams of 20 more British families on the line,

0:01:43 > 0:01:46as they face the reality of a new life Down Under.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49But, after just one week, they'll have to vote -

0:01:49 > 0:01:53do they stay in the UK or do they move to Australia?

0:01:58 > 0:02:03Peel and Zoe Mehra and baby Archie are about to leave their home in Warwickshire to discover

0:02:03 > 0:02:09if Zoe's long-held dream of moving the family to Australia could become a reality.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12It was my decision to move to Australia, because

0:02:12 > 0:02:18I went travelling there after I was a graduate from university and it just seemed so relaxed and so calm.

0:02:18 > 0:02:23Everybody just seemed so less stressed than they are in England.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26While Zoe's heart is set on a move Down Under,

0:02:26 > 0:02:32she's got to persuade Peel, who's yet to be convinced about leaving the UK behind.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34As a self-employed painter and decorator,

0:02:34 > 0:02:40he works six days a week just to make ends meet, leaving little time to spend with his new family.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43For me, working six days is a necessity, really.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46I could do with spending more time with Archie, because by the time

0:02:46 > 0:02:49I get in from work, especially if I've been to quote jobs,

0:02:49 > 0:02:56it's usually anything between 6pm and 7pm sometimes, and he gets to bed at 7pm, so I do miss out a lot.

0:02:56 > 0:03:00I'd really like us to be able to spend some time outdoors and maybe

0:03:00 > 0:03:06do some different, fun things together as a family, because Peel doesn't get a chance to do that here.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10The eldest of three girls, Zoe would be leaving her close-knit family,

0:03:10 > 0:03:14who all still live in her parents' pub in a nearby village.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18I would find it really hard to say goodbye to my family and friends.

0:03:18 > 0:03:23My family have been fantastic ever since I've had Archie. My mother was there at the birth.

0:03:23 > 0:03:28She loves him dearly and I think it would be really hard for me to take that away from her.

0:03:28 > 0:03:33It's... There isn't words to describe how she feels about having him in her life,

0:03:33 > 0:03:39erm...but...I've got to do this... for my family now.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42She'd say she doesn't rely on them, but they're always there for her.

0:03:42 > 0:03:47If we went there, I think she'd miss them a lot more than she'd tell you.

0:03:47 > 0:03:50Peel's family connections are even closer to home.

0:03:50 > 0:03:52Peel's very close to his family.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55We've got his mother living with us, so we see her every day

0:03:55 > 0:04:00and he takes very good care of her and looks after her really well.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03To be honest with you, she's quite against it.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06I've mentioned to her that we're gonna go on this trip

0:04:06 > 0:04:09as more of a recce than anything else, to see how we get on.

0:04:09 > 0:04:14- HE SIGHS - I haven't put into concrete that we might actually go.

0:04:14 > 0:04:19I don't know whether he would come back and look at his mother and think, "I can't leave her."

0:04:19 > 0:04:26With so much at stake, Peel would have to be absolutely convinced before agreeing to such a big move.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29I'd like to say I could do it, but I'm not very impulsive.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32I'd need to be totally won over to do something like that.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Will Australia live up to Zoe's memories

0:04:35 > 0:04:39and will Peel fall in love with it enough to give up his life in the UK

0:04:39 > 0:04:41and start again Down Under?

0:04:41 > 0:04:45I don't really want to spend the rest of my life here, if I'm honest.

0:04:45 > 0:04:50I would actually like to end my days in Australia - or I think I do at the moment.

0:04:53 > 0:04:58The Mehra family have so much to think about in considering a move to Australia.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02To help them discover whether it can live up to their expectations,

0:05:02 > 0:05:06we gave them a trial run of life in Sydney for one week.

0:05:08 > 0:05:12We have three different lifestyles for the family to sample -

0:05:12 > 0:05:16one in the country, one in the city and one on the coast,

0:05:16 > 0:05:21each with an offer of a job and a brand-new way of life for them to enjoy on their budget.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24First, let's take a look at the country lifestyle.

0:05:26 > 0:05:31Sydney's countryside is full of exciting wildlife and there are

0:05:31 > 0:05:37plenty of parks to work out in, walk your dog, even play golf.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40For around £300,000 to £400,000,

0:05:40 > 0:05:46you could buy a spacious, chic and quirky three-bedroomed home.

0:05:47 > 0:05:51Heck, there are even converted churches in the country!

0:05:54 > 0:05:58This option comes with a painting job at a small family company.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01Stuart Dopper is keen to tell us more.

0:06:01 > 0:06:05My mum does all our paperwork and office duties.

0:06:05 > 0:06:10My dad basically does nothing but stand around, drink coffee, eat biscuits and yell at the boys.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13Myself and the boys always love the challenge

0:06:13 > 0:06:17of drinking a new Pommy under the table when they arrive.

0:06:17 > 0:06:21Give us a call when you're out here. We look forward to seeing you soon.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25So that was the kind of lifestyle they could expect in the country,

0:06:25 > 0:06:28but what might be possible in the city on their budget?

0:06:30 > 0:06:33Sydney is a whirlwind of colour and glitz.

0:06:33 > 0:06:37From the imposing Opera House to the Harbour Bridge,

0:06:37 > 0:06:40there's plenty to do and see.

0:06:41 > 0:06:45Apartment living will keep you immersed in the metropolis -

0:06:45 > 0:06:48but, be warned, this city ain't cheap.

0:06:48 > 0:06:52A sizable family flat will set you back around £300,000.

0:06:52 > 0:06:58This city-based decorating company specialises in commercial jobs

0:06:58 > 0:07:02and comes with a basic salary of £20,000.

0:07:02 > 0:07:05John Carlachi is the state manager.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08There can be two to 22 painters on any project,

0:07:08 > 0:07:12which instils a great sense of camaraderie in our organisation.

0:07:12 > 0:07:16Apart from the wonderful climate Sydney offers, there are a great range of things to do.

0:07:16 > 0:07:22In fact, only on the weekend, I took my family out on the river for a bit of fishing and some swimming.

0:07:23 > 0:07:27If what I've talked about today interests you, give us a call.

0:07:27 > 0:07:32It looks like they could shape up pretty well in the city, but what about a new life on the coast?

0:07:34 > 0:07:38Sydney's glorious coastline is known the world over.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43Offering so much to do, from surfing to paragliding,

0:07:43 > 0:07:47these sunny beaches are perfect for the whole family.

0:07:51 > 0:07:55Although apartment living will keep you on the coast,

0:07:55 > 0:07:59affordable family homes, priced between £300,000 and £350,000,

0:07:59 > 0:08:01are a short drive away.

0:08:04 > 0:08:08A painting job at this award-winning decorating company

0:08:08 > 0:08:12will earn you a base salary of around £25,000.

0:08:12 > 0:08:18Boss Marek, originally from Poland, specialises in prestigious waterside properties.

0:08:19 > 0:08:24I'm looking for all the time new members and, whenever I know

0:08:24 > 0:08:28it's someone coming from England, is giving already big credit for him.

0:08:28 > 0:08:33So, Peel, if you're really good, as I think, just give me a buzz.

0:08:33 > 0:08:37There's plenty of work here and definitely we can make a good deal.

0:08:37 > 0:08:39I'm waiting for you.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42So there's the countryside of New South Wales,

0:08:42 > 0:08:45with its wide-open spaces for all the family,

0:08:45 > 0:08:49or the cosmopolitan city of Sydney, with its beautiful harbour,

0:08:49 > 0:08:54or the coast, with its golden beaches and sparkling surf.

0:08:54 > 0:09:01Three very different possibilities for our family to try, so which one did we decide would suit them best?

0:09:06 > 0:09:09Zoe's dream is to live by the sea, so we've

0:09:09 > 0:09:15chosen the coastal option in Sydney for their trial week in Australia.

0:09:15 > 0:09:2122 hours later, they emerge on the other side of the planet at Sydney Airport.

0:09:21 > 0:09:26With high hopes for the week ahead, Zoe and Peel are raring to go.

0:09:26 > 0:09:31Our family are staying in the beachside suburb of Coogee in a two-bedroom apartment.

0:09:31 > 0:09:33Wow, look at the view!

0:09:33 > 0:09:35Look at that!

0:09:35 > 0:09:38With stunning ocean views.

0:09:38 > 0:09:40- So beautiful.- It's unbelievable! It's breathtaking, actually.

0:09:40 > 0:09:44I didn't expect it to be like this. It's brilliant.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46- Do you like it?- Archie's excited.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49Ahh, even Archie's loving the view.

0:09:51 > 0:09:53Very nice.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57The apartment occupies the ground floor of a larger house, but Peel

0:09:57 > 0:09:59can't take his eyes off the view.

0:09:59 > 0:10:02Plenty of light. We've got a good view as well.

0:10:02 > 0:10:06That's what you're here for, the view. It's beautiful.

0:10:07 > 0:10:09I think you like, Arch.

0:10:09 > 0:10:13The flat only has two bedrooms, but even

0:10:13 > 0:10:17a small apartment like this in Coogee will cost around 600,000,

0:10:17 > 0:10:20or roughly £300,000.

0:10:20 > 0:10:24It's beautifully finished, but it's the view that's the star attraction.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26- It's lovely.- See yourself here?

0:10:26 > 0:10:30- YOU could definitely. You're already here, aren't you?- Definitely.

0:10:30 > 0:10:34Dragging themselves away from the window for a minute,

0:10:34 > 0:10:35it's time to take stock.

0:10:35 > 0:10:41The places we stopped are so far flung, it really made me think we're a long way from home.

0:10:41 > 0:10:45When you get to Bangkok and you've got another eight hours, I was like, "Crikey!"

0:10:45 > 0:10:50When you're looking at that map changing on the plane, it really sinks in how far away you are.

0:10:50 > 0:10:55Which reminds them why they're here and what the priorities are for the week ahead.

0:10:55 > 0:10:59It needs to be financially viable, as much as I'd love to do it.

0:10:59 > 0:11:06- As much it's a dream of mine, it has to be financially viable.- You don't want to come here and be broke.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09Naturally, Zoe's vision of a new life Down Under

0:11:09 > 0:11:11includes her ideal house.

0:11:11 > 0:11:13Possibly a beautiful view like this.

0:11:13 > 0:11:18Obviously, this is a very expensive view.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21A pool, open-plan new-build...

0:11:23 > 0:11:24Yeah, that'd be it.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27You do remember what property we've got to sell?!

0:11:27 > 0:11:32I know, but that's the dream property, and then I suppose you work downwards.

0:11:32 > 0:11:37But is their dream of a home near the beach realistic, with Sydney house prices?

0:11:37 > 0:11:38There's a lot to reflect on

0:11:38 > 0:11:42and tomorrow they'll find out if they could afford to live here.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51In the UK, Zoe and Peel live in a three-bedroom detached house

0:11:51 > 0:11:54on a small estate in central Warwickshire.

0:11:54 > 0:11:58Inside, it's a showcase of Peel's decorative skills.

0:11:58 > 0:12:02However, a growing family and rising mortgage payments

0:12:02 > 0:12:06mean he has to work six days a week to maintain their lifestyle.

0:12:06 > 0:12:09Zoe's dream is to live by the sea

0:12:09 > 0:12:13but, in Sydney, a beachside property is the ultimate address

0:12:13 > 0:12:16and comes with a price tag to match -

0:12:16 > 0:12:19the nearer to the beach, the higher the cost.

0:12:19 > 0:12:23So, using the Mehras' budget of £150,000 as a deposit,

0:12:23 > 0:12:26we've lined up three houses for them to view

0:12:26 > 0:12:28within 20 minutes of the beach.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31The first is in the popular suburb of Belrose.

0:12:31 > 0:12:35This three-bedroom home is on the market for 750,000.

0:12:35 > 0:12:40That's around £370,000, depending on exchange rates.

0:12:40 > 0:12:43Estate agent Joshua Keefe is there to greet them.

0:12:43 > 0:12:45Nice to meet you.

0:12:45 > 0:12:48It's a typical Aussie bungalow and could do with

0:12:48 > 0:12:51a bit of updating, but somehow I don't think

0:12:51 > 0:12:53that's what Zoe has in mind.

0:12:56 > 0:13:00She's been dreaming of a modern, open-plan new-build.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02It's nice but it's dated, isn't it?

0:13:02 > 0:13:06Yeah, it is a bit. It's nice and light, though, isn't it?

0:13:06 > 0:13:10Yeah, but it would need some... modernising, I think.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13It's other people's taste. You've got to put your own stamp on it.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16There's a second living room overlooking the garden

0:13:16 > 0:13:20and leading out to a big deck, but Zoe's looking unimpressed.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23- Not too much lawn to cut...- No!

0:13:23 > 0:13:27The garden's small and there's no pool, and even this property,

0:13:27 > 0:13:31with all its shortcomings, would mean taking on a huge mortgage.

0:13:31 > 0:13:33It's 750, isn't it? I think we're

0:13:33 > 0:13:37kind of looking more at 550 or something.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39That's mortgage-free.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41It depends what we sell ours for, doesn't it?

0:13:41 > 0:13:44So you just don't know. But it is very nice.

0:13:44 > 0:13:47Their dream of mortgage-free living is impossible

0:13:47 > 0:13:50if they want to live this close to the beach.

0:13:50 > 0:13:55- This is obviously what you're getting for your money, isn't it? - This is still out of our price range.

0:13:55 > 0:14:00If this is 750, what's what you're gonna get for what we're looking at?

0:14:00 > 0:14:04- I suppose it depends on salaries... - We want to work less hard, don't we?

0:14:04 > 0:14:06Yeah, that's the idea.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09Zoe is shocked at the high price of this property

0:14:09 > 0:14:12and tackles estate agent Joshua.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15Is this area quite an affluent area?

0:14:15 > 0:14:20Cos it seems, to be fair, this house is probably a little bit out of our price range.

0:14:20 > 0:14:24We've most probably got about 500, haven't we?

0:14:24 > 0:14:25500, 550, yeah.

0:14:25 > 0:14:29Being close to the beach and everything, it's ideal for families.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32Basically, when you look at this home, you're getting a home

0:14:32 > 0:14:35that you don't have to spend anything

0:14:35 > 0:14:38and it's ready to move straight in.

0:14:38 > 0:14:42- I tend to disagree that it's ready to move in to.- You could move in it.

0:14:42 > 0:14:45It is, but, for us, we'd have to spend money on it.

0:14:45 > 0:14:49I'd want to modernise the kitchen and bathroom, which are the main things that are costly.

0:14:49 > 0:14:54She's looking at a property really that we haven't got to change the kitchen and bathroom.

0:14:54 > 0:14:59If this property was more modern and had a new bathroom and kitchen,

0:14:59 > 0:15:01obviously there would be a higher price.

0:15:01 > 0:15:06The reality of Sydney house prices has left them feeling deflated.

0:15:06 > 0:15:10Let's see if the next property picks them up.

0:15:10 > 0:15:14It's in the same area, and is on the market for 720,000,

0:15:14 > 0:15:17or about £360,000.

0:15:17 > 0:15:18It's slightly cheaper

0:15:18 > 0:15:21due to the fact that it's a smaller plot on a main road.

0:15:21 > 0:15:24Spirits are immediately lifted.

0:15:24 > 0:15:28The modern funky interior is much more their style.

0:15:28 > 0:15:29This is nice.

0:15:29 > 0:15:34This is more what I was thinking about. It's beautiful. Open plan.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37- Very pretty.- More modern.

0:15:37 > 0:15:39There's a spacious living area.

0:15:39 > 0:15:40Nice dining area.

0:15:40 > 0:15:42And an open-plan kitchen.

0:15:44 > 0:15:48The bright and airy first bedroom is downstairs.

0:15:48 > 0:15:52This is nice. This has got the en-suite bathroom as well.

0:15:52 > 0:15:54It's quite vintage-looking.

0:15:54 > 0:15:57There's even something to remind them of home.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00I like the fact that you've got stairs to go up to, as well.

0:16:00 > 0:16:02- No, I didn't fancy a bungalow.- No.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05Upstairs is the light-filled master bedroom.

0:16:05 > 0:16:08I love all the whole whitewashed effect.

0:16:08 > 0:16:11- It looks quite beachy, doesn't it? - Yeah, it does.

0:16:11 > 0:16:13And a colourful children's room.

0:16:13 > 0:16:18Look, Arch. Little baby's room. Look at that carpet.

0:16:18 > 0:16:20Have a little rest on there.

0:16:20 > 0:16:22Oh, this is sweet.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24Nice big room.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26It's much better than the last property, isn't it?

0:16:26 > 0:16:28It is. Much more appealing to us.

0:16:28 > 0:16:32- I wonder why it's cheaper?- Maybe it's because it's on a main road.

0:16:32 > 0:16:35OK, the main road is not ideal,

0:16:35 > 0:16:39but is this more the kind of place they're looking for?

0:16:39 > 0:16:42I could definitely see myself living in a house like this.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45It's quite a quaint, modern little place, quite pretty.

0:16:45 > 0:16:47It is the sort of thing I envisaged.

0:16:47 > 0:16:51Has this house restored their hopes of finding a home in Sydney?

0:16:51 > 0:16:56It's still not my idea of what I wanted.

0:16:56 > 0:17:02But I think what I'm looking for we're not going to be able to afford, realistically.

0:17:02 > 0:17:06I think from the views that I have in my mind of what I would like

0:17:06 > 0:17:09as a perfect Australian home... are unrealistic.

0:17:09 > 0:17:13Yeah, I think the prices are higher than what we were expecting.

0:17:13 > 0:17:15It's back to earth with a bump.

0:17:15 > 0:17:20They love the house, but not enough to double their mortgage.

0:17:20 > 0:17:24Zoe and Peel's idea of the perfect Aussie home is a modern new-build

0:17:24 > 0:17:26with a garden and preferably a pool.

0:17:29 > 0:17:33Property number three may not have the pool, but it is new-ish.

0:17:33 > 0:17:37This four-bedroomed house is the most expensive yet.

0:17:37 > 0:17:42At 790,000, or nearly £400,000,

0:17:42 > 0:17:44this would be something to aspire to.

0:17:44 > 0:17:48They would both need to work if they were to afford the hefty mortgage.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51But they could move straight in.

0:17:51 > 0:17:53Oh, this is nice.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57- Very nice.- It's lovely.

0:17:57 > 0:17:59Nice and airy, isn't it?

0:17:59 > 0:18:04Nice area to dine, which is what we haven't got at home.

0:18:04 > 0:18:06- No.- Oh, wow, look at the garden.

0:18:06 > 0:18:10- It's much bigger, isn't it? - I like the kitchen as well.

0:18:10 > 0:18:13- It is the best one we've seen, definitely, isn't it?- Definitely.

0:18:13 > 0:18:15This house is ticking all the boxes.

0:18:15 > 0:18:18Could it be Zoe's dream home?

0:18:18 > 0:18:20Oh, wow, this is lovely.

0:18:20 > 0:18:23It's got a balcony on each side.

0:18:23 > 0:18:26I can't believe how big this bedroom is.

0:18:26 > 0:18:28You could only dream of a bedroom like this at home.

0:18:28 > 0:18:32The four bedrooms are upstairs, and all with plenty of room.

0:18:32 > 0:18:37Nice big bedrooms, aren't they? They're all good-sized bedrooms.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42Oh, yeah. You can't believe it, can you?

0:18:42 > 0:18:45Some even have views of next door's pool.

0:18:45 > 0:18:46I didn't notice that.

0:18:46 > 0:18:50- I did.- We'd have to make friends with them, wouldn't we?

0:18:50 > 0:18:51At this price, you'd have to,

0:18:51 > 0:18:54because it would be a stretch to build your own.

0:18:54 > 0:18:56It's really nice, isn't it?

0:18:56 > 0:19:00You'd never afford it straight off. You don't want a 150-grand mortgage.

0:19:00 > 0:19:01That's double what we've got now.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04Come here to be better off, not worse off.

0:19:04 > 0:19:08Zoe's got that faraway look in her eye.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10But she's not going to let go of her vision that easily.

0:19:10 > 0:19:15If we upscale in the UK, we'd end up having a bigger mortgage, regardless.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18And we would never, ever, get anything like this in the UK.

0:19:18 > 0:19:21Not as beautiful, and the grassland as big as this.

0:19:21 > 0:19:25- You can only afford what you can afford, Zo.- I know, but...

0:19:25 > 0:19:27This one's out of your bracket.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29By a long way, I would say.

0:19:29 > 0:19:31A hell of a long way.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35Tap your dad up when we get back!

0:19:35 > 0:19:37Get him to sell a corner of the pub.

0:19:37 > 0:19:40Well, a girl can dream,

0:19:40 > 0:19:43but it would mean they'd both have to bring in a decent wage.

0:19:43 > 0:19:47The price of Sydney property has been a huge shock.

0:19:47 > 0:19:50Property one was too old.

0:19:50 > 0:19:53Property two was on a busy road.

0:19:53 > 0:19:57And the third house was way out of their reach.

0:19:59 > 0:20:01So, how will they vote on property?

0:20:01 > 0:20:04Which is the best, the UK or Oz?

0:20:04 > 0:20:09My vote for houses in Australia based on what we've seen today...

0:20:09 > 0:20:11is UK.

0:20:12 > 0:20:14And my vote is...

0:20:14 > 0:20:16UK.

0:20:16 > 0:20:20I'm looking for a pretty much brand-new house, something we don't have to do any work to,

0:20:20 > 0:20:25something that's got a pool, and I don't think that we're going to find that for

0:20:25 > 0:20:29anything that we can afford to pay in and around Sydney, so...

0:20:29 > 0:20:32it's just, er...too much.

0:20:38 > 0:20:42With houses in Sydney proving far more expensive than expected,

0:20:42 > 0:20:46it's vital that Peel finds work to help pay the bills.

0:20:46 > 0:20:48But how easy would that be?

0:20:48 > 0:20:49Peel's spending the day with

0:20:49 > 0:20:53a local painting and decorating company

0:20:53 > 0:20:57to compare his work in the UK with how it could be Down Under.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59He meets the boss, Marek.

0:21:00 > 0:21:03Having moved to Sydney from Poland ten years ago,

0:21:03 > 0:21:06Marek now runs a busy decorating business,

0:21:06 > 0:21:10and is always on the lookout for skilled tradesmen to join his team.

0:21:10 > 0:21:12I'm looking for the good painters.

0:21:12 > 0:21:18If you are one of them, definitely I won't let you go back to England.

0:21:18 > 0:21:21Marek introduces Peel to site foreman Keith.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24At last, a chance to meet a local.

0:21:24 > 0:21:27- This is Keith, the foreman on the site.- How are you doing, mate?

0:21:27 > 0:21:31- How are you doing?- That's a local accent! Where are you from, Cardiff?

0:21:31 > 0:21:33Cardiff boy, born and bred.

0:21:33 > 0:21:37Maybe not! Marek leaves them to it, and Peel starts quizzing Keith about life Down Under.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40I've been over here now for two years.

0:21:40 > 0:21:44- Loving it? - It's great stuff. Really enjoy it.

0:21:44 > 0:21:49- You have got the old environment, haven't you?- The weather's beautiful. The start of spring.

0:21:49 > 0:21:51- 20-odd degrees today.- Wicked.

0:21:51 > 0:21:55Is that my paint there? What are we doing?

0:21:55 > 0:21:57We just want to tidy up these.

0:21:57 > 0:22:01While Peel gets to work, Zoe's doing some job research of her own.

0:22:01 > 0:22:05If they're going to afford the beachside lifestyle of their dreams,

0:22:05 > 0:22:07both of them will need to work.

0:22:07 > 0:22:12In the UK, Zoe's studying photography, and she'd love to turn this passion into a career.

0:22:12 > 0:22:18She's meeting professional photographer Justin McIntosh to get some advice.

0:22:18 > 0:22:21So, you want to be a photographer someday?

0:22:21 > 0:22:23I would like to, yeah.

0:22:23 > 0:22:25Well, welcome to the studio.

0:22:25 > 0:22:29While Justin shows Zoe around the studio, Peel wastes no time

0:22:29 > 0:22:32in asking Keith about work prospects in Sydney.

0:22:32 > 0:22:36Looking at work's important to me. I want to know what it's like.

0:22:36 > 0:22:41- There's plenty of work over here. - That's what I was going to ask. - There really honestly is.

0:22:41 > 0:22:45If you're willing to work, you'll never be out of work.

0:22:45 > 0:22:52- What are the wages like?- I'm probably earning roughly around 1,200-1,500 bucks, dollars, a week.

0:22:52 > 0:22:54- 1,500 a week?- Yeah, 12, 15.

0:22:54 > 0:22:56Really? So, over 600 quid, then?

0:22:56 > 0:22:59Roughly round about that, about five and a half, six hundred.

0:22:59 > 0:23:05That's roughly £31,000 a year, about the same as Peel earns in the UK.

0:23:05 > 0:23:10We're coming here so I don't have to work six days a week, and we can spend more time with the little one.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12We're called the Tradies.

0:23:12 > 0:23:17- Yeah?- Seven till 3.30, and hopefully an early finish on a Friday.

0:23:17 > 0:23:21That's just the kind of work-life balance he's looking for,

0:23:21 > 0:23:25and Keith's convinced that Peel should give Australia a go.

0:23:25 > 0:23:28You've got to give yourself a chance. You've got to give it a go.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31You worry that if you don't like it then you've sold up at home.

0:23:31 > 0:23:34Well, you've got the other dilemma.

0:23:34 > 0:23:39If you don't come over here, you're always going to be thinking about it. "Why didn't I do this?"

0:23:39 > 0:23:44But if you come here and give it a try and it doesn't work out for you, you've tried it.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47Keith's certainly giving Peel a lot to think about.

0:23:47 > 0:23:49Keith, I'm done, mate.

0:23:49 > 0:23:50You are, are you?

0:23:50 > 0:23:55- Time for a break. Or a smoke-o, as they call it over here.- Smoke-o, eh?

0:23:55 > 0:23:59Back at the photography studio, Zoe is picking up some valuable tips from Justin.

0:23:59 > 0:24:03So, this is one of my wedding albums.

0:24:03 > 0:24:07This is up at the Hunter Valley, which is a wine-growing region not far from Sydney.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10I like the fact that it's all so candid and so natural.

0:24:10 > 0:24:15When you're looking back at your wedding photos, you can actually see what your day was like.

0:24:15 > 0:24:18These days, you can't just be average.

0:24:18 > 0:24:21You have to strive to be better than that.

0:24:21 > 0:24:27Having a thick skin helps, because you will get clients who won't like your work.

0:24:27 > 0:24:29And you have to...

0:24:29 > 0:24:30evolve and work around...

0:24:30 > 0:24:32And how would you deal with that?

0:24:32 > 0:24:36If you've done an album for somebody, say, and they are really not happy?

0:24:36 > 0:24:39I don't just present the album to them and say, "Here it is."

0:24:39 > 0:24:45Prior to this, we have had several meetings designing an album and planning an album.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47So it's never a complete...

0:24:47 > 0:24:49The finished product

0:24:49 > 0:24:52at this stage is not a surprise.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54So, Zoe's learning a lot, too.

0:24:55 > 0:24:59Back at work, Peel continues to grill Keith on his inside knowledge.

0:24:59 > 0:25:03It did throw me, the prices of the houses, the ones we saw yesterday.

0:25:03 > 0:25:07Like you said, the high sevens, 800,000. It's not the kind of budget we were looking at.

0:25:07 > 0:25:11We wanted something modern, but not spending that sort of money.

0:25:11 > 0:25:15The place I am, Prospect, a new housing site there has gone up,

0:25:15 > 0:25:20- and I'm sure you can buy houses there for less than 400. - So they're new builds?

0:25:20 > 0:25:24- They're new builds.- So what would you be looking at there for 400 grand?

0:25:24 > 0:25:25A three- or four-bedroom house.

0:25:25 > 0:25:30- That sounds good. So, 400,000 Australian?- Aussie dollars.

0:25:30 > 0:25:35That's encouraging. Affordable housing could make all the difference.

0:25:35 > 0:25:39Peel wants to know everything, and you can't blame him.

0:25:39 > 0:25:41We're talking about moving to the other side of the world.

0:25:41 > 0:25:46It's just such a big thing. There's so much to think about. You're bringing your whole life here.

0:25:46 > 0:25:50It's a massive move. It's a life-changing one.

0:25:50 > 0:25:53But you've got to treat it as an adventure as well.

0:25:53 > 0:25:57Give yourself a minimum of two years. Give yourself two years.

0:25:57 > 0:26:02Keith's enthusiasm for life Down Under seems to have struck a chord with Peel.

0:26:02 > 0:26:04But how is Zoe getting on back at Justin's studio?

0:26:04 > 0:26:10He's lent her a camera, and she's putting what she's learnt into practice.

0:26:14 > 0:26:18Photo session over, Zoe's got some great shots.

0:26:19 > 0:26:21But she's thinking about Peel.

0:26:22 > 0:26:27If he doesn't find that work fulfils his expectations, the move could be in jeopardy.

0:26:27 > 0:26:32I'm feeling quite apprehensive about his work experience going well today.

0:26:32 > 0:26:36It is going to be a huge deciding factor to him, whether it goes well.

0:26:36 > 0:26:40If it goes well, then brilliant, it's a few pluses in my corner.

0:26:40 > 0:26:43But if it doesn't, then...

0:26:43 > 0:26:45we won't be coming.

0:26:45 > 0:26:47So, how will Peel vote on work?

0:26:47 > 0:26:51Does he prefer his job at home or could he see himself working here in Oz?

0:26:51 > 0:26:55It is a close-run thing with money and stuff, but...

0:26:55 > 0:27:01I think the sunshine sways it for me, so my vote for working, UK or Australia...

0:27:01 > 0:27:02is Australia.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06It swung it for me a bit talking to Keith, because he's an expat.

0:27:06 > 0:27:12You find out a lot more from people there who know what you're going through, thinking about moving.

0:27:12 > 0:27:15I think he put me at ease a bit, about the house prices and stuff

0:27:15 > 0:27:18and what he's looking to buy and how much money he's earning, so...

0:27:18 > 0:27:22And obviously, if you do it yourself, you could earn even more.

0:27:22 > 0:27:24So it's all right. It is all right.

0:27:24 > 0:27:28It's a big gut wrench, though, but...maybe it will be better.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31That's one for Zoe. Is Peel beginning to see

0:27:31 > 0:27:33the advantages of life Down Under?

0:27:37 > 0:27:40Peel and Zoe hope that a move Down Under would offer them

0:27:40 > 0:27:42the outdoor lifestyle they dream of.

0:27:42 > 0:27:45They've been blown away by Sydney's coastline.

0:27:45 > 0:27:49And Peel was pleasantly surprised by his work experience.

0:27:49 > 0:27:53But Sydney house prices were a huge shock.

0:27:53 > 0:27:58- You can only afford what you can afford, Zo.- I know, but...

0:27:58 > 0:28:01This one's out of your bracket, by a long way.

0:28:01 > 0:28:05And how would they cope when the reality of moving to Australia kicks in?

0:28:05 > 0:28:10I want this so much, I really, really want to come, but I don't know whether I can leave my family.

0:28:10 > 0:28:12I really don't.

0:28:12 > 0:28:17For Zoe and Peel, making this decision is proving the biggest challenge of their lives.

0:28:21 > 0:28:24The Mehras want to spend more time together as a family,

0:28:24 > 0:28:27and are hoping a move Down Under will help them achieve this.

0:28:27 > 0:28:31But what exactly does the Aussie lifestyle have to offer?

0:28:31 > 0:28:35Sydney's beaches are studded with spectacular coastal walks,

0:28:35 > 0:28:39and this one between Coogee and Bondi is right on their doorstep.

0:28:40 > 0:28:42As they take in the view,

0:28:42 > 0:28:46Peel spots a cunning way of reducing their mortgage.

0:28:46 > 0:28:50That's a cracking piece of real estate, isn't it?

0:28:50 > 0:28:53- Fair play. He looks happy, though, doesn't he?- Yeah, I know.

0:28:53 > 0:28:56You won't get insurance on that place, mate.

0:28:56 > 0:29:01It's a spectacular walk, but how does it compare to an afternoon in Warwickshire?

0:29:01 > 0:29:04It's a free thing. You've got to utilise it, haven't you?

0:29:04 > 0:29:05It's put there by nature.

0:29:05 > 0:29:09It doesn't cost you anything to walk down the beach.

0:29:09 > 0:29:13To have it on your doorstep, to fully appreciate it, make the most of it.

0:29:13 > 0:29:18Like we used to grow up kicking a football around, he could grow up down the beach doing it.

0:29:18 > 0:29:25But would Peel really want Archie to grow up as a little Aussie surfer with no attachments to the UK?

0:29:25 > 0:29:27You have to teach him about his roots, where he's from.

0:29:27 > 0:29:31You can't just forget. It's a bit like me with Mum and Dad.

0:29:31 > 0:29:33When India were playing cricket,

0:29:33 > 0:29:36if India were playing England, I'd always want England to win.

0:29:36 > 0:29:40But if India were playing someone else, then I'd want India to win.

0:29:40 > 0:29:44He'll be the same, I think. Which one he chose for his first team, it's up to him, really!

0:29:44 > 0:29:47As long as they've got three lions on!

0:29:47 > 0:29:52The idea of, erm, living in Australia has become more of a...

0:29:52 > 0:29:57a realistic conversation now, and it's kind of hit home more as to...

0:29:57 > 0:30:03- our thoughts...of coming over here and...- It's not just a dream now, you can have a look.

0:30:03 > 0:30:09No, if we'd made the move and we were sat here, and it was just the three of us, it's frightening,

0:30:09 > 0:30:11cos it's just the three of us.

0:30:11 > 0:30:16Yeah, but if you've come that far, if you've made that move, you'd be sitting here happy.

0:30:16 > 0:30:19Because we'd both have to do it 100%, or not at all.

0:30:19 > 0:30:23I couldn't go on it 50-60%, cos it wouldn't work.

0:30:23 > 0:30:25You've got to come here and like...

0:30:25 > 0:30:30you've got to block out what's at home, not think about it too much, think about what's ahead,

0:30:30 > 0:30:34and not when you're gonna see your family and friends again.

0:30:34 > 0:30:37Cos it might not be for a while.

0:30:37 > 0:30:41The reality of leaving family on the other side of the world

0:30:41 > 0:30:43is a major issue for both Peel and Zoe.

0:30:43 > 0:30:46But it's not like you're never gonna see these people again.

0:30:46 > 0:30:49Oh, no. But you can't expect people to come and see you.

0:30:49 > 0:30:54- They will!- It's a helluva long way, Zo.- Opportunity for a free holiday, they'll come!- Yeah.

0:30:54 > 0:30:59It's also what it costs them to get here and stuff. It's not like you're going to Devon.

0:30:59 > 0:31:05You've just got to bite the bullet, deal with the homesickness at the start, cos you're gonna get that.

0:31:05 > 0:31:08No, I'm not feeling homesick. I don't know, I just...

0:31:08 > 0:31:11I think, if we came, I'd deal with it better than you.

0:31:11 > 0:31:13Yeah, you must probably would.

0:31:13 > 0:31:16But I think if we came all this way, I think we would...

0:31:16 > 0:31:19I know I would make more of an effort to...

0:31:19 > 0:31:24take it all in, try and spend more time together as a family.

0:31:24 > 0:31:29Australia's great outdoors is living up to Zoe's memories,

0:31:29 > 0:31:34and Peel seems to like it, too, so how will they vote on lifestyle?

0:31:34 > 0:31:40We've done the walk from Coogee to Bondi, we've seen the ups and downs of the hills and the cliffs,

0:31:40 > 0:31:44and we've looked at Bondi Beach, seen a bit of the outdoor life.

0:31:44 > 0:31:47So my vote for Britain or Australia would be...

0:31:48 > 0:31:49Australia.

0:31:49 > 0:31:52And my vote will be...

0:31:52 > 0:31:53Australia!

0:31:58 > 0:32:02The Mehras' week on the Sydney coastline is nearly at an end -

0:32:02 > 0:32:07has life Down Under lived up to their expectations?

0:32:07 > 0:32:10It's been an amazing time, we've had a fantastic time.

0:32:10 > 0:32:13And I just think to myself, this is what I want, I want to do this.

0:32:13 > 0:32:17But, whilst they love it, they can't forget who they'd be leaving behind.

0:32:17 > 0:32:21For Peel it's his mother, who's already told him that she doesn't want them to leave.

0:32:21 > 0:32:23She told me not to move,

0:32:23 > 0:32:26not for her own reasons, nothing selfish about it.

0:32:26 > 0:32:33Cos she's done it. She moved from India to England in '65 or whatever, and she said don't do it.

0:32:33 > 0:32:38But that's her personal opinion. She loved India, she wishes she'd stayed there.

0:32:38 > 0:32:44Peel is torn. He loves the UK, but the week has opened his eyes to the possibilities of a life Down Under.

0:32:44 > 0:32:48I don't know. It gets a bit dreary, doesn't it, at home?

0:32:48 > 0:32:50- Yeah.- The winter's long and the summers are bad and...

0:32:50 > 0:32:54But now it's Zoe who's troubled by leaving the UK behind.

0:32:54 > 0:32:55It's a huge, huge step.

0:32:55 > 0:32:59What I'm concerned about is possibly...

0:32:59 > 0:33:06uprooting us all and then me getting terribly homesick.

0:33:06 > 0:33:11To the point where - Peel has already said this - I don't want to be here any more.

0:33:11 > 0:33:15And not being able to go back to our country purely because we can't afford it.

0:33:15 > 0:33:18We wouldn't be able to, cos what we'd sell our house for...

0:33:18 > 0:33:21That's why I think we should never sell immediately, we should rent

0:33:21 > 0:33:25for at least 12-18 months to see whether we can settle here.

0:33:25 > 0:33:28If you do it, you do it, that's it. You can't just...

0:33:28 > 0:33:33Cos you're kind of half-heartedly going into it if you rent your house.

0:33:33 > 0:33:35No, I don't... I totally disagree.

0:33:35 > 0:33:41You're just giving yourself a lifeline, you're not half-heartedly going into it at all, I disagree.

0:33:41 > 0:33:46I think you're just making sure that you're doing the right thing. You don't...

0:33:46 > 0:33:51You don't buy a flippin' £20,000 car without test-driving it, do you?

0:33:51 > 0:33:56That's like somebody staying with their ex-partner on the side until they're happy with somebody else!

0:33:56 > 0:33:59- That's rubbish!- It's not. I think it is.- That's rubbish.

0:33:59 > 0:34:03If you can afford to keep your house on rent, fine, but we can't.

0:34:03 > 0:34:06Well, no-one said it was going to be easy.

0:34:06 > 0:34:10With so much to consider, it's not surprising that tempers fray.

0:34:15 > 0:34:19So, a week of ups and downs for the Mehras,

0:34:19 > 0:34:23but now it's time to face the emotional cost of leaving the UK.

0:34:23 > 0:34:27Here are some messages from their loved ones back home.

0:34:28 > 0:34:32First up are Peel's friends Steve and Winchie.

0:34:32 > 0:34:35Hi, Peel, Zoe and Archie, how are you doing?

0:34:35 > 0:34:37Hope you're having a fantastic time.

0:34:37 > 0:34:40And we're missing you lots and lots.

0:34:40 > 0:34:42Hi, Peel and Zoe.

0:34:42 > 0:34:43Hiya!

0:34:43 > 0:34:47Zoe, Peel and Archie, I definitely will miss you.

0:34:47 > 0:34:50I, er, hope you're enjoying your stay in Australia.

0:34:50 > 0:34:53Zoe's always been adventurous, and she said,

0:34:53 > 0:34:56"Mum, I'd love to emigrate to Australia, that would be my dream."

0:34:56 > 0:35:02She doesn't ever judge you, erm, she's just been an amazing friend to me.

0:35:02 > 0:35:06She's a calming influence on me, I think, which I need at times.

0:35:06 > 0:35:10We laugh at the same things, we have the same sense of humour and stuff.

0:35:10 > 0:35:13She's my eldest daughter and I've always been very close to her.

0:35:13 > 0:35:17Archie's lovely, he really is lovely, and I think we'd miss Archie

0:35:17 > 0:35:22- more than anything in the world, you know.- Yeah.- But it's...

0:35:22 > 0:35:27one of those things, isn't it? You know, but he is lovely, he's my world, he really is.

0:35:27 > 0:35:32If Zoe, Peel and Archie left to go to Australia there'd be a gaping hole in the family.

0:35:32 > 0:35:36Erm, currently I couldn't see the family being the same if they went.

0:35:36 > 0:35:41She's probably my best friend so I wouldn't have anyone to hang around with as much as I do with her.

0:35:41 > 0:35:45I would miss her, we'd both miss her, wouldn't we? We'd miss Peel.

0:35:45 > 0:35:48Mainly Archie, cos it's the, er...

0:35:48 > 0:35:52We're gonna miss probably the most interesting part of his life,

0:35:52 > 0:35:55as he gets to two or three, when they start developing.

0:35:55 > 0:35:58When they're little babies, you, er...

0:35:58 > 0:36:01It's the attachment forms when they're two or three,

0:36:01 > 0:36:04when they start growing, so if they go we'll miss all that.

0:36:04 > 0:36:08Thinking about Mum, I don't quite know.

0:36:08 > 0:36:11I've never broached it, and said to her,

0:36:11 > 0:36:14"How do you feel about the fact that they may go permanently?"

0:36:14 > 0:36:17You know, and...

0:36:17 > 0:36:22So I'm not dead sure how she'd be. I'm not quite sure how she'd be about it, because...

0:36:22 > 0:36:26I know she wouldn't want to stand in their way, that's 100% definite.

0:36:26 > 0:36:34But it's just working out what would be best for her and how we'd care for her again.

0:36:34 > 0:36:37I probably wouldn't want them to go because I would miss them dearly.

0:36:37 > 0:36:42And I don't think I could, you know, sort of... have them not in my life any more.

0:36:42 > 0:36:45With Zoe, I'll just miss...

0:36:46 > 0:36:50Well, I'll miss everything. Everything. Erm...

0:36:57 > 0:37:00It's just knowing that each other's there.

0:37:00 > 0:37:04It would be in the back of your mind, because it's just gonna be the three of them.

0:37:04 > 0:37:08They've got no support out there, and that's kind of important.

0:37:08 > 0:37:12If I had the opportunity to tell Zoe that I didn't want her to go,

0:37:12 > 0:37:15I would tell her, but I think I'd be rather selfish.

0:37:15 > 0:37:19So I know that if we did say that we didn't want her to go,

0:37:19 > 0:37:23we'd put a stop on her dream, which we wouldn't want to do.

0:37:23 > 0:37:26I think we'll really miss Peel, Zoe and Archie

0:37:26 > 0:37:30around birthday times, our children, their children,

0:37:30 > 0:37:34Christmas is always special having everybody around.

0:37:34 > 0:37:38I hope you've had a fantastic time, we look forward to hearing how the trip's gone.

0:37:38 > 0:37:41Love to you all, I love you all very much, give Archie a big kiss for me.

0:37:41 > 0:37:43See you, Peel.

0:37:43 > 0:37:46Give that Archie a great big hug and a kiss from us.

0:37:46 > 0:37:50- And from the kids!- And from the kids, yes, they will really miss him!

0:37:50 > 0:37:52- See you soon. Bye!- Bye-bye.

0:37:52 > 0:37:56So I will miss you, but whatever decision you make,

0:37:56 > 0:37:59it's purely down to you and I hope you make the right one.

0:37:59 > 0:38:03Of course we'll miss you. We'll miss you, Peel and Archie.

0:38:03 > 0:38:06Archie is our life.

0:38:06 > 0:38:08But it's your decision, Zo.

0:38:08 > 0:38:11And I'm sure you'll make the right decision at the end of the day.

0:38:16 > 0:38:19That was intense, wasn't it? Are you all right?

0:38:21 > 0:38:23Yeah, I suppose.

0:38:23 > 0:38:28Hearing what people have just said on there has really made me

0:38:28 > 0:38:31wonder whether I can do it.

0:38:31 > 0:38:36Because...I'm so close to my mum and my dad,

0:38:36 > 0:38:42and I'm so close to my sisters. My dad's an amazing person,

0:38:42 > 0:38:43and...

0:38:45 > 0:38:49I don't know whether I can imagine my life without him, really.

0:38:49 > 0:38:54Which is really hard, because I know he's not gonna be around for ever, but...

0:38:55 > 0:38:57Having to...

0:38:57 > 0:39:00When that happens, it happens, and there's nothing you can do about it.

0:39:00 > 0:39:06But I am forcing these feelings and emotions upon myself, just by moving across the other side of the world.

0:39:06 > 0:39:09It's just really hard.

0:39:20 > 0:39:21Ah, bless her.

0:39:27 > 0:39:30My sisters are just... I'm so close to my sisters.

0:39:33 > 0:39:35It's an impossible decision.

0:39:36 > 0:39:40I want this so much, I really, really want to come,

0:39:40 > 0:39:43but I don't know whether I can leave my family, I really don't.

0:39:44 > 0:39:48- Stupid, isn't it?- Yeah, you can't have both, though, can you?

0:39:48 > 0:39:54You've kind of got me thinking about...really thinking seriously about leaving now, you know?

0:39:54 > 0:39:56So you just have to...

0:39:56 > 0:39:59If it's gonna work and it's what we're gonna do,

0:39:59 > 0:40:02and we find somewhere we can afford that we're happy with,

0:40:02 > 0:40:04you're gonna have to do that.

0:40:06 > 0:40:08- Yeah.- Ain't ya?

0:40:13 > 0:40:17The Mehras' trial week in Australia has been a mixture of highs and lows.

0:40:17 > 0:40:21Sydney's scenery worked its magic on Peel, to Zoe's delight.

0:40:21 > 0:40:25Moving to Australia would have to include life by the beach,

0:40:25 > 0:40:27but they simply can't afford it.

0:40:27 > 0:40:30You're not gonna upscale your mortgage where you can't pay it.

0:40:30 > 0:40:33This one's out of your bracket, by a long way!

0:40:33 > 0:40:37With such a huge decision to make, the debate can get heated.

0:40:37 > 0:40:40You're half-heartedly going into it if you rent your house.

0:40:40 > 0:40:45- No, I totally disagree.- You're not committed!- But you're just giving yourself a lifeline.

0:40:45 > 0:40:48Peel has the responsibility of his mother to consider,

0:40:48 > 0:40:52and Zoe was rocked by the heartfelt messages from friends and family.

0:40:52 > 0:40:54It's the final vote.

0:40:54 > 0:40:58Will they choose to stay in the UK or move to Australia?

0:40:58 > 0:41:03OK, we've had a great week here in Australia in Sydney and Coogee.

0:41:03 > 0:41:06We've seen and done a lot of things, experienced different things.

0:41:06 > 0:41:09And we've had a lot to take in, to be honest.

0:41:09 > 0:41:14There's a couple of things that still worry me about Australia and a couple of aspects of things at home.

0:41:14 > 0:41:17So purely based on that at the moment, my vote is for...

0:41:17 > 0:41:19the UK.

0:41:21 > 0:41:23And my vote is...Australia.

0:41:23 > 0:41:27Oh, dear! It looks like the Mehras are split!

0:41:27 > 0:41:31- Why?!- Like I said, we need to think about stuff. I'm not...

0:41:31 > 0:41:35I like a lot of the things here, a lot of things are brilliant, and...

0:41:35 > 0:41:40We need to sort out finance-wise what we can afford, how much our house is gonna be worth,

0:41:40 > 0:41:44cos if it's not worth enough we can't do it.

0:41:44 > 0:41:48And also need to sort out personal stuff at home with regard to Mum,

0:41:48 > 0:41:52and I've got to speak to my brother before I can make any decisions.

0:41:52 > 0:41:56I can't resolve all the problems of things that are going on on the spin of a card.

0:41:56 > 0:42:01- How can you not want to live here, look at it, it's beautiful! - I didn't say I didn't, darling.

0:42:01 > 0:42:03I can't just spin a card and make everyone jump.

0:42:03 > 0:42:09That's not gonna happen, is it? We're not just going to go, "Let's all jump on a plane, we're going."

0:42:09 > 0:42:13- I know. So I don't want to give you...- I still thought that you would have voted Australia,

0:42:13 > 0:42:15you've said so many things, "I like this, I like that..."

0:42:15 > 0:42:19- Yeah, I do!- And then you still voted the UK. What is so great in the UK?

0:42:19 > 0:42:23I only voted the UK cos I can't resolve all the problems yet, that's all.

0:42:23 > 0:42:27I'm happy with where we are, we need to find somewhere where we can live.

0:42:27 > 0:42:29We can't afford to live here.

0:42:29 > 0:42:32We'd be like that bloke living on the cliff.

0:42:32 > 0:42:34If he'll move, we'll be all right.

0:42:34 > 0:42:37I'll never park me van there!

0:42:37 > 0:42:40I thought he would vote Australia, I really did think he would.

0:42:42 > 0:42:46Why don't we give Archie the deciding vote?

0:42:46 > 0:42:48Fancy a spin, son?

0:42:49 > 0:42:51Zoe is massively disappointed.

0:42:51 > 0:42:56She's come to terms with the difficulties, but Peel is not convinced.

0:42:56 > 0:42:59What a terrible dilemma for them both.

0:42:59 > 0:43:03It's been a week of pros and cons for the Mehras.

0:43:03 > 0:43:06While Peel feels he can find the right job, both he and Zoe

0:43:06 > 0:43:10were sorely disappointed at the cost of property in Sydney.

0:43:10 > 0:43:13So for now there's no telling where the future lies,

0:43:13 > 0:43:17as they're split on whether to move where they're Wanted Down Under.
