0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello and welcome to Wanted Down Under,
0:00:05 > 0:00:09the show that catapults a British family right across
0:00:09 > 0:00:11the other side of the world to help them make
0:00:11 > 0:00:13the biggest decision of their life.
0:00:13 > 0:00:17Jason and Ninu Huddlestone and baby Naia are dreaming
0:00:17 > 0:00:22of a new life down under where they can work to live, not live to work.
0:00:22 > 0:00:27We would like something more laid-back, and we think that Australia might provide that.
0:00:27 > 0:00:31But the reality of house prices in Australia's most expensive city are a shock.
0:00:31 > 0:00:34Yeah, in a way, I got my wow factor today.
0:00:34 > 0:00:36It's just not the wow I was looking for!
0:00:36 > 0:00:39And could they bear to leave their friends and family behind?
0:00:39 > 0:00:44To be thinking about moving away when, you know, the family might need us...
0:00:44 > 0:00:49So will their idea of the Australian dream tempt the Huddlestone family
0:00:49 > 0:00:51to go where they're wanted, down under?
0:01:16 > 0:01:20With the global economy in meltdown, perhaps now is a good time to go walkabout
0:01:20 > 0:01:23in Australia, where at least the sun is shining.
0:01:25 > 0:01:31Last year, over 60 Brits a day swapped the grey skies of home for the blue ones down under.
0:01:31 > 0:01:36But how tough was that decision, and how carefully did they think it through?
0:01:37 > 0:01:41We've put another 20 British families through their paces
0:01:41 > 0:01:44as they face the reality of life down under.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47After just one week, they'll have to vote, once and for all.
0:01:47 > 0:01:51Do they stay in the UK or do they move to Australia?
0:01:52 > 0:01:56Jason and Ninu Huddlestone and baby Naia are about to leave their home
0:01:56 > 0:02:01in outer London to test Ninu's idea of setting up home in Australia.
0:02:01 > 0:02:05I probably approached Jason with the question about three years ago,
0:02:05 > 0:02:09and he was really up for it, so he said, "Oh yeah, you know, it would be really good."
0:02:09 > 0:02:13Ninu has idyllic memories of her carefree childhood.
0:02:13 > 0:02:17'I grew up in Kenya and I came over when I was about nine to this country.'
0:02:17 > 0:02:22I am a sun person, and I kind of get a bit depressed when it gets quite wintry.
0:02:22 > 0:02:30Jason enjoys his work as a software engineer, but not his daily commute negotiating London's traffic.
0:02:30 > 0:02:34That hour-each-way drive is hard work, and it would be nice to go somewhere
0:02:34 > 0:02:39where that wasn't the case, where we could, you know, live a lot closer to where I work.
0:02:39 > 0:02:42He phones me to say, "Oh, I'm gonna be an hour late,"
0:02:42 > 0:02:45or, "I don't know what time I'm gonna get home,"
0:02:45 > 0:02:52so, to live in an area with less roads would be a great thing, or motorways that are not a car park!
0:02:52 > 0:02:57Jason and Ninu both grew up in Feltham and both their families live nearby.
0:02:57 > 0:03:01I have thought that they moved when we were quite young
0:03:01 > 0:03:07to a new country, so it can be done, but you can tell that they're not very happy about the decision.
0:03:07 > 0:03:11Baby Naia has been a great hit with her grandparents.
0:03:11 > 0:03:17My parents have another grandchild, but Ninu's parents don't have any other grandchildren,
0:03:17 > 0:03:22so to take Naia away from them would be pretty hard, I think.
0:03:22 > 0:03:26And they're not sure if Feltham's the best place to bring up their children.
0:03:26 > 0:03:31It's got its problems. Most people have heard of it because of the Feltham Young Offenders.
0:03:31 > 0:03:35There are many different types of people round here and the diversity's increased,
0:03:35 > 0:03:41which is good in many ways, but it does generate friction, and Ninu's had some tough times.
0:03:41 > 0:03:45I've been spat on when I was pushing Naia in her pushchair,
0:03:45 > 0:03:49and you don't know whether to say, "Excuse me, that was very wrong,"
0:03:49 > 0:03:53or to just carry on because you don't want to cause any arguments.
0:03:53 > 0:03:56- Why are all the- BLEEP - taking over Feltham?
0:03:56 > 0:04:02I mean, I'm not sure if it's as prevalent in Australia as it is here,
0:04:02 > 0:04:06but I would hope it's definitely less of a threat for families.
0:04:06 > 0:04:09Going to a multicultural environment's very important,
0:04:09 > 0:04:12because otherwise, we'd just go to a totally white area.
0:04:12 > 0:04:15I mean, it could be very difficult for her to feel at home.
0:04:15 > 0:04:17There needs to be a mixed community.
0:04:17 > 0:04:22It'll be interesting to go and see if I do fit in as a person.
0:04:22 > 0:04:24But how will they cope when it's just the three of them?
0:04:24 > 0:04:29If you're suddenly alone, you're plucked away from all your friends and family,
0:04:29 > 0:04:32all you've got is each other, so you have to pull together,
0:04:32 > 0:04:35otherwise we ain't gonna be out there very long.
0:04:37 > 0:04:41To help the Huddlestones make a decision that would be right for them,
0:04:41 > 0:04:46we gave them a trial run of life in Sydney for one week.
0:04:49 > 0:04:53We found three different lifestyles for our family to sample.
0:04:53 > 0:04:57One in the country, one in the city and one on the coast,
0:04:57 > 0:05:03each one with the offer of a job and a brand new way of life for them to enjoy on their budget.
0:05:03 > 0:05:07First, let's take a look at the country lifestyle.
0:05:08 > 0:05:12Sydney's sunny countryside is alive with exciting wildlife
0:05:12 > 0:05:15and is perfect for anyone who loves the great outdoors.
0:05:15 > 0:05:20With fabulous parks and plant life, there's plenty to do and see
0:05:20 > 0:05:25and for horse lovers, rural Sydney is the place to be.
0:05:25 > 0:05:28Country living is better value than the city.
0:05:28 > 0:05:33For around £300,000 - £400,000, you could buy a large four-bedroom family home.
0:05:35 > 0:05:38Gosh, you could even get a pool!
0:05:38 > 0:05:45A software engineer at this IT programming company will take home a salary of around £40,000.
0:05:45 > 0:05:49Supervisor Clinton is keen to meet Jason.
0:05:49 > 0:05:53We primarily design and develop websites, so there's lots of room for creativity.
0:05:53 > 0:05:59We've been expanding at a rapid 15% per year, so it's a very exciting time to come on board.
0:05:59 > 0:06:03Jason, we certainly hope that you contact us as soon as you arrive in Australia.
0:06:03 > 0:06:07So that was the kind of lifestyle they could enjoy in the country,
0:06:07 > 0:06:11so let's see what might be possible in the city on their budget.
0:06:15 > 0:06:18Sydney is a collision of colour and excitement
0:06:18 > 0:06:19for kids and adults alike.
0:06:21 > 0:06:28And if you're a fan of trendy markets, sightseeing and culture, you'll feel right at home.
0:06:28 > 0:06:31Chilling out in a stylish, small, suburban apartment
0:06:31 > 0:06:39will set you back around £300,000, but for designer luxury, expect to pay way over a million.
0:06:39 > 0:06:41Well, we can dream, can't we?
0:06:43 > 0:06:50A job as a software engineer at this IT programming company will earn Jason a salary of £50,000.
0:06:50 > 0:06:53The MD is Joseph Serr.
0:06:55 > 0:06:57This is our games room.
0:06:57 > 0:06:59This is where we come when we want to relax and chill out.
0:06:59 > 0:07:03Jason, we're always on the lookout for people of your calibre.
0:07:03 > 0:07:06I'd like you to come and see me when you're in Sydney.
0:07:07 > 0:07:11It looks like their lifestyle could shape up pretty well in the city,
0:07:11 > 0:07:13but what about a new life on the coast?
0:07:13 > 0:07:18Sydney's world famous coastline is a sight to behold.
0:07:20 > 0:07:25And if surfing's your thing, you're going to love it here.
0:07:25 > 0:07:30Although waterfront properties cost megabucks, a small family home
0:07:30 > 0:07:36a short drive from the beach will set you back around £300,000.
0:07:40 > 0:07:45An experienced software engineer at this kitchen management software company
0:07:45 > 0:07:48could earn you a salary of £50,000.
0:07:48 > 0:07:52Business partner Enda Hughes explains.
0:07:52 > 0:07:54Our software design has been in operation for six years.
0:07:54 > 0:07:58We found a niche in the market for kitchen management software.
0:07:58 > 0:08:00If you've got a sweet tooth, you'll just love working
0:08:00 > 0:08:03alongside their sister patisserie company.
0:08:03 > 0:08:06Having a sister company does bring many perks.
0:08:06 > 0:08:08Chocolate, we all share.
0:08:08 > 0:08:11The staff do the sampling, a perk you won't get elsewhere.
0:08:11 > 0:08:14Jason, give me a call when you get to Sydney. Look forward to seeing you.
0:08:17 > 0:08:22All the jobs offer Jason a good salary, but have very different lifestyles attached.
0:08:22 > 0:08:26There's the country with its wide-open spaces
0:08:26 > 0:08:29and beautiful properties.
0:08:29 > 0:08:32The vibrant city centre and workplace
0:08:32 > 0:08:35where the competition's not just round the computer.
0:08:35 > 0:08:41Or the coast, with its magnificent beaches and added perks of the job.
0:08:41 > 0:08:45So, three very different possibilities for our family to try.
0:08:45 > 0:08:48So which one did they think would suit them best?
0:08:48 > 0:08:54For the Huddlestones' trial week in Australia, we chose the city option.
0:08:56 > 0:08:59If Jason wants to spend less time travelling to work,
0:08:59 > 0:09:03they'll need to live close to Sydney's business district.
0:09:03 > 0:09:09After a 22-hour flight, the Huddlestones arrive in Sydney, eager to explore their accommodation.
0:09:09 > 0:09:13They're staying in the inner-city suburb of Stanmore
0:09:13 > 0:09:18in a three-bedroom, period brick-built home, but with a light, contemporary interior.
0:09:18 > 0:09:20- After you.- Wow!
0:09:20 > 0:09:23Interesting. Nice high ceilings.
0:09:23 > 0:09:27- It's a lovely hallway. Oh, wow. - It's so big.
0:09:27 > 0:09:28- Interesting.- Interesting, yeah.
0:09:28 > 0:09:31- It's a lot of space. - Big table as well.
0:09:31 > 0:09:35They're impressed with the size of it and the quirky combination of styles.
0:09:35 > 0:09:39I reckon this is the bathroom. The echo gives it away.
0:09:39 > 0:09:41It's a huge bathroom!
0:09:41 > 0:09:43More rooms. How big is this place?
0:09:43 > 0:09:46- It's a nice-sized room. It's a bigger bed.- Lots of wardrobe space.
0:09:46 > 0:09:50All the comforts of home. There's even a larder.
0:09:50 > 0:09:52We could have a larder!
0:09:52 > 0:09:54But what's that noise?
0:09:56 > 0:09:58Planes.
0:09:58 > 0:10:00Just like back at home!
0:10:00 > 0:10:04Jason seems to be putting on a brave face about such an intrusion.
0:10:04 > 0:10:08Planes, we're used to that. I've lived under a flightpath all my life, it's no big deal.
0:10:08 > 0:10:11- We'd like to move away from planes! - Yeah, it would be nice.
0:10:11 > 0:10:15I think from my point of view, an Australian home was more new.
0:10:15 > 0:10:20- Yeah, more modern.- Yeah, a more modern, suburban type property,
0:10:20 > 0:10:24- so this is really different. - Something with this space, though, fantastic.
0:10:24 > 0:10:26Something with this space would be great.
0:10:26 > 0:10:34With the flight behind them and the unpacking ahead, they're really feeling just how far they've come.
0:10:34 > 0:10:37The flight was hard work. You can't do that trip often. It would kill you.
0:10:37 > 0:10:41I think it made me think more about my family while I was on the plane.
0:10:41 > 0:10:45Yeah, if you are to come here, you know you're not gonna see your family
0:10:45 > 0:10:49- more than probably once a year, sort of thing.- The distance is...
0:10:49 > 0:10:51- Massive!- Massive, yeah.
0:10:51 > 0:10:57- We realise now that it's not an easy journey.- No, definitely not.- No.
0:10:57 > 0:11:00Is Ninu already having second thoughts?
0:11:00 > 0:11:07I am very attached to my parents, my sister and brother, and I think for me it would be more, more questions
0:11:07 > 0:11:10and a bit of soul-searching for me, whereas I think for Jason,
0:11:10 > 0:11:14it would be a lot easier for him to say, you know, "I love it, let's go!"
0:11:14 > 0:11:17- Or not, depending which way it goes. - Or not!
0:11:17 > 0:11:23One of the deciding factors on making the move down under will be finding that house of their dreams.
0:11:23 > 0:11:26I want to have a wow factor when I see a house.
0:11:26 > 0:11:29It's that sense that you walk into a home
0:11:29 > 0:11:31and it just really impresses you.
0:11:31 > 0:11:34To get that in the UK, you have to spend so much, we hope we might
0:11:34 > 0:11:38be able to get something like that for a little less over here.
0:11:42 > 0:11:47In the UK, the Huddlestones live in Middlesex, a great location if you want to catch a plane.
0:11:47 > 0:11:53Their home is a modern three-bedroom house in a gated cul-de-sac, but they dream of a more spacious
0:11:53 > 0:11:57house in Australia with a big garden for their growing family.
0:12:00 > 0:12:05Jason wants to reduce his commuting time to work, so we've lined up three houses for them to view
0:12:05 > 0:12:09in Sydney's inner west, all within easy access of the city centre.
0:12:11 > 0:12:17The Huddlestones' budget of £250,000, roughly 500,000, is a start.
0:12:17 > 0:12:23But for a house close to the city, they'll still need to take out a mortgage.
0:12:23 > 0:12:29Property one is in the popular suburb of Croydon, just a 10-minute train ride into the city.
0:12:29 > 0:12:33Estate agent Peter Hearnfield is there to greet them.
0:12:33 > 0:12:36It's a three-bedroom family home.
0:12:36 > 0:12:40It's on 351 square metres, so it's actually quite a good size block.
0:12:40 > 0:12:42It's going to auction and we're thinking it'll probably sell
0:12:42 > 0:12:45something above 750,000.
0:12:45 > 0:12:47- Very quiet, isn't it? It's really nice.- It's a great location.
0:12:47 > 0:12:50And there's no planes over here.
0:12:50 > 0:12:53- Yes!- Great!- Definite bonus. - Peace and quiet on the outside.
0:12:53 > 0:12:55Let's have a look inside.
0:13:07 > 0:13:09- Right, then.- Wow! It's old.
0:13:09 > 0:13:11It's got high ceilings again, hasn't it?
0:13:11 > 0:13:15It's not a main bedroom. It would be a good spare bedroom for guests.
0:13:15 > 0:13:18- Spare bedroom.- It'd need a lot of work, though.
0:13:18 > 0:13:20A bit colourful. Green walls.
0:13:20 > 0:13:24Yeah, again, it would have to be totally redone, wouldn't it?
0:13:24 > 0:13:28Mmm. Is Ninu having difficulty seeing beyond the dated interior?
0:13:28 > 0:13:32- There's lots of cracks and... - Yeah. The whole house would need renovating.
0:13:32 > 0:13:34- Oh, it's the dining room.- Yeah.
0:13:34 > 0:13:36- The kitchen.- Now I'm transported!
0:13:36 > 0:13:39- Yeah.- Back to... - We're in a museum, aren't we?- We are.
0:13:39 > 0:13:43All the fixtures, fittings, everything would have to go. Have to start again.
0:13:43 > 0:13:47- But can Jason see its potential? - This is quite nice, isn't it?
0:13:47 > 0:13:52- This would be a nice spot to drink a glass of wine, wouldn't it, in the evening?- Yeah.- Pleasant.- Yeah.
0:13:52 > 0:13:55- This is a bit bigger than our place at home.- Yeah.
0:13:55 > 0:13:57And what about the price?
0:13:57 > 0:14:00The pricing's quite expensive, actually. £325,000.
0:14:00 > 0:14:01The house has potential.
0:14:01 > 0:14:09- I mean, you can probably re-plaster, repaint, new kitchen, new bathroom, new flooring.- New everything.
0:14:09 > 0:14:14Even though I can imagine it, I don't think it's a project that we would take on, yeah.
0:14:14 > 0:14:16Yeah, in a way, I got my wow factor today.
0:14:16 > 0:14:18It's just not the wow I was looking for!
0:14:18 > 0:14:21Sort of an anti-wow, maybe, I don't know.
0:14:21 > 0:14:25Jason is anxious to discover why it's so expensive.
0:14:25 > 0:14:28Three bedrooms, needs some work, but the position is very good.
0:14:28 > 0:14:32It's highly sought-after because you've got some very good primary schools in the area.
0:14:32 > 0:14:36Only three minutes' walk to Croydon station. That takes you directly to the city.
0:14:36 > 0:14:39I've got a few others I could show you.
0:14:39 > 0:14:41- Would you be interested?- Definitely.
0:14:41 > 0:14:44Property number two is more their style.
0:14:44 > 0:14:47We had an offer of 720,000 on this one.
0:14:47 > 0:14:49The price is different because we're further
0:14:49 > 0:14:53from the station and it's a smaller block. But it's a beautiful home.
0:14:53 > 0:14:55720,000 will buy it for you today, if you like it.
0:14:55 > 0:14:59So have a look through and maybe tell me what you think.
0:15:00 > 0:15:07No pressure, then! But it is slightly cheaper than the first house. About £360,000.
0:15:07 > 0:15:11And, hooray! The renovations on this property have already been done.
0:15:11 > 0:15:13Guest bedroom, I suppose.
0:15:13 > 0:15:18Oh, bathroom is still quite small, but it's in much better condition than the other one.
0:15:18 > 0:15:22It might be small, but there's a big surprise round the corner.
0:15:22 > 0:15:24Oh, this is nice. I like this.
0:15:24 > 0:15:26Oh, wow! Yeah, this is nice.
0:15:26 > 0:15:28This is unexpected.
0:15:28 > 0:15:31Oh, wow! Oh, that's huge. Oh, excellent.
0:15:31 > 0:15:34- Oh, this is much more like it, isn't it?- This is wow factor.
0:15:34 > 0:15:38This is much more wow factor, definitely. Shall we have a look at the garden?
0:15:38 > 0:15:40It's a nice garden.
0:15:40 > 0:15:43That's really nice. It's really well done, isn't it?
0:15:43 > 0:15:48- So what you think about it compared the other one?- So much better. And it's cheaper.
0:15:48 > 0:15:52It has definitely got the wow factor.
0:15:52 > 0:15:55So, has our estate agent got a deal on his hands?
0:15:55 > 0:15:57Jason, Ninu, what did you think?
0:15:57 > 0:16:00- Oh, it's much nicer, isn't it? - It's different, isn't it?
0:16:00 > 0:16:04- Much more what we're looking for. - Why is this house cheaper than the last one?
0:16:04 > 0:16:08It is cheaper because you're further away from the station.
0:16:08 > 0:16:12The station does sort of indicate a higher price, because it's more accessible to the station.
0:16:12 > 0:16:14Quicker time to and from the station.
0:16:14 > 0:16:18They really liked this house, but it's still a period property.
0:16:18 > 0:16:23Could they compromise and give up their dreams of a modern new build?
0:16:23 > 0:16:29The third house has been renovated inside and out and is the biggest of the three properties.
0:16:29 > 0:16:32- I'm Shelly.- Nice to meet you. Jason.- Ninu.
0:16:32 > 0:16:36What we have here is a Federation home. Four bedrooms.
0:16:36 > 0:16:39We do have a slight noise problem. It is a main road.
0:16:39 > 0:16:44But what the vendors have done is enclosed the balcony to reduce that noise level.
0:16:44 > 0:16:47- How much is it on the market? - 700,000 plus.
0:16:47 > 0:16:51- Have a look around and we'll chat afterwards.- Thanks very much. - Thanks.
0:16:51 > 0:16:55Jason and Ninu seem a little taken aback
0:16:55 > 0:17:01by the £350,000 asking price. Will they think it's worth it?
0:17:01 > 0:17:03- A-ha! Bedroom.- Yeah.
0:17:03 > 0:17:04- It's a big room.- It is, isn't it?
0:17:04 > 0:17:07It's got a fireplace as well. Excellent.
0:17:07 > 0:17:09Nice space.
0:17:09 > 0:17:11Yeah. Interesting sort of design.
0:17:11 > 0:17:13The little arches and stuff.
0:17:14 > 0:17:17I reckon this is a baby's room.
0:17:17 > 0:17:19- Good size for a children's bedroom. - Definitely.
0:17:19 > 0:17:21That is interesting, isn't it?
0:17:21 > 0:17:24Oh, wow! I've never seen a bathroom like this.
0:17:24 > 0:17:27Ah, now this sounds a bit more hopeful.
0:17:27 > 0:17:32Could this stylishly renovated house with rooms that just go on and on be closer to their dream home?
0:17:32 > 0:17:36- Fantastic. - Nice space. Lovely, open space.
0:17:36 > 0:17:39Floorboards, that's good.
0:17:39 > 0:17:42- Dark wood.- Air con.- Nice kitchen.
0:17:42 > 0:17:44- Garden.- This would be lovely in the summer, wouldn't it?
0:17:44 > 0:17:48That's a good space, isn't it?
0:17:48 > 0:17:49Barbecue spot.
0:17:49 > 0:17:53- Nice glass of wine.- Lovely garden.
0:17:53 > 0:17:57- Maybe it is what they're looking for.- So, what did you think?
0:17:57 > 0:17:59Not quite what we're looking for.
0:17:59 > 0:18:01- The main road out the front is a real issue for us.- OK.
0:18:01 > 0:18:05If you're looking to buy in the western suburbs of Sydney,
0:18:05 > 0:18:08you're either going to get planes, trains or automobiles.
0:18:08 > 0:18:12The aircraft noise isn't an issue here, but yes, we do have the main road.
0:18:12 > 0:18:14How long to get to the middle of Sydney?
0:18:14 > 0:18:17You know, you're looking at eight minutes.
0:18:17 > 0:18:22You're central to pretty much everything. 20 minutes from the beaches. It's very multicultural.
0:18:22 > 0:18:25Would we assume that new builds would be more expensive?
0:18:25 > 0:18:30The newer buildings, the more contemporary, aren't as popular,
0:18:30 > 0:18:33and for whatever reason, they're not as solid.
0:18:33 > 0:18:36You know, they don't make 'em like they used to!
0:18:36 > 0:18:43So, have the Huddlestones been won over by the older style properties in Sydney's inner west?
0:18:43 > 0:18:51The first was a three-bedroom bungalow, but it was almost a museum piece in need of a total renovation.
0:18:51 > 0:18:58The second house was another three-bedroom period property, but with a striking modern interior.
0:18:58 > 0:19:04The last house was the biggest, with four bedrooms, but an old style property and on a busy main road.
0:19:04 > 0:19:06So, how will they vote on property?
0:19:06 > 0:19:08The UK or Oz?
0:19:08 > 0:19:10Little disappointed by what we've seen.
0:19:10 > 0:19:11Not what we expected,
0:19:11 > 0:19:16so my vote on property, based on what we've seen is most definitely...
0:19:16 > 0:19:17UK.
0:19:17 > 0:19:21My vote for properties we've seen is...
0:19:21 > 0:19:23UK.
0:19:23 > 0:19:25Well, not a great start.
0:19:25 > 0:19:33Jason and Ninu have obviously not been won over by these traditional style Sydney houses.
0:19:33 > 0:19:37The Federation style is interesting, but it's not really to our taste.
0:19:37 > 0:19:40Initially, I expected the houses to be slightly bigger.
0:19:40 > 0:19:44If we can't get the house we want, I would rather have a nice house
0:19:44 > 0:19:47and commute a long way than commute a short distance and live in a place I don't like.
0:19:47 > 0:19:49It's not value for money here.
0:19:52 > 0:19:58With the high cost of houses in central Sydney, the Huddlestones may have to look further afield,
0:19:58 > 0:20:01or pay a lot more if they want a modern house.
0:20:01 > 0:20:07So there's a lot of pressure on Jason to find a suitable job to help him support Ninu and Naia.
0:20:10 > 0:20:12He's spending the day with an IT company in North Sydney,
0:20:12 > 0:20:17to compare his work in the UK with how it could be down under.
0:20:17 > 0:20:20Jason is an experienced computer software engineer.
0:20:20 > 0:20:23They're very much in demand in Australia.
0:20:23 > 0:20:26Still, he's keen to impress the boss, Joseph Serr.
0:20:26 > 0:20:31- So, can you tell us a little bit more about yourself? - Well, I'm 34 years old.
0:20:31 > 0:20:35My wife and I are looking to move to Australia for what we hope is a better life.
0:20:35 > 0:20:37In London, it is pretty hectic.
0:20:37 > 0:20:40It's very work-centric. I think we would like something
0:20:40 > 0:20:44a little more laid-back and we think that Australia might provide that.
0:20:44 > 0:20:47I think you're on the right track, in terms of the balance.
0:20:47 > 0:20:50We try very hard here to get a balance.
0:20:50 > 0:20:53We've got sports rooms and that sort of thing.
0:20:53 > 0:20:58Although it's not a big company, we do really focus on other issues, other than work.
0:20:58 > 0:21:02So, here, you'll find we work a 40-hour week.
0:21:02 > 0:21:06For the sort of experience that you've got and your age,
0:21:06 > 0:21:10we would probably be looking at around about 100,000 a year.
0:21:10 > 0:21:16That's nearly £50,000 - £8,000 more than he earns in the UK.
0:21:16 > 0:21:21All right, Jason. What I think we'll do now is just show you around.
0:21:24 > 0:21:27While Jason gets to work, Ninu's on a mission.
0:21:27 > 0:21:32If they move to Australia, she and Naia will have a lot of time to fill.
0:21:32 > 0:21:37So Ninu's come to Bondi Beach to join a local music playgroup.
0:21:37 > 0:21:41OK, guys. I just want to introduce you to Ninu with Naia.
0:21:41 > 0:21:44- Today, she's going to be sitting in to the class.- Hello, everyone.
0:21:49 > 0:21:53Yes, Ninu, I remember. It's like your first day at school.
0:21:55 > 0:21:59- We've got quite a full day here today.- Back at work, Jason gets the grand tour.
0:21:59 > 0:22:01This is where you would be sitting.
0:22:01 > 0:22:05- Piece de resistance, which is our games room.- Fantastic.
0:22:05 > 0:22:10This is where the guys come every couple of hours and take it out on a ping-pong ball.
0:22:10 > 0:22:13Fairly fixed in their position all day, so being able to come here
0:22:13 > 0:22:16and belt the ball around is just the right tonic.
0:22:16 > 0:22:20- So I hope you're good at ping-pong. - Rubbish, but I can learn!
0:22:20 > 0:22:22- Dan, this is Jason. - Nice to meet you, Dan.
0:22:22 > 0:22:24Dan can show you a bit of what we do.
0:22:24 > 0:22:28So, we primarily use FileMaker for a lot of the database work here.
0:22:28 > 0:22:32Now, while we leave Jason to the intricacies of File... whatever it is,
0:22:32 > 0:22:36has Ninu settled into her first day?
0:22:39 > 0:22:41# Hello everybody, hello everybody
0:22:41 > 0:22:43# It is good to see you. #
0:22:45 > 0:22:47THEY CLAP AND CHEER
0:22:48 > 0:22:52This is the first time Naia's seen so many babies.
0:22:52 > 0:22:53For a week.
0:22:53 > 0:22:56The lifestyle, the beach and it's beautiful.
0:22:56 > 0:23:00If your husband is working hard or you're working hard, it's like
0:23:00 > 0:23:03being on holiday on the weekends, because it's just beautiful.
0:23:03 > 0:23:05Being by the water is so lovely.
0:23:05 > 0:23:07And you see whales. I see whales and dolphins.
0:23:09 > 0:23:11Goodbye. Nice to meet you.
0:23:11 > 0:23:14'Sunny, beautiful summer's day.
0:23:14 > 0:23:17'I can't imagine every day being like this.
0:23:17 > 0:23:21'The main difference I've found was this was more laid-back than the UK.
0:23:21 > 0:23:23'Meeting the mums here was great.
0:23:23 > 0:23:26'They were really welcoming and open and friendly.'
0:23:26 > 0:23:31I was a bit surprised by that. I thought I would be the newcomer,
0:23:31 > 0:23:33they'd be a bit distant, but they were great.
0:23:33 > 0:23:37They were like I had been friends with them for years now!
0:23:37 > 0:23:39Meanwhile, back at the office...
0:23:40 > 0:23:42Ah, I see.
0:23:45 > 0:23:47Talk about a relaxed working environment!
0:23:47 > 0:23:50It certainly seems to be working for this company.
0:24:01 > 0:24:05I think the major difference there was their working culture was a bit more laid-back.
0:24:05 > 0:24:09You could see from the games that we were playing
0:24:09 > 0:24:10that it was more fun, I suppose.
0:24:10 > 0:24:13I mean, we wouldn't do anything like that back at home.
0:24:13 > 0:24:17From what Joseph said, there's a skills shortage of my skill set at the moment,
0:24:17 > 0:24:23which is obviously good for me. So I could perhaps demand a higher salary than I'm on at the moment.
0:24:23 > 0:24:29Work is the primary factor when moving to Australia, because without work, you can't do anything else.
0:24:29 > 0:24:33You need the money to have the lifestyle you want, to get a nice house.
0:24:33 > 0:24:36Without a good job, you can't get any of that.
0:24:36 > 0:24:39So it's all about the work, from my point of view.
0:24:39 > 0:24:42So, how will Jason vote for work? UK or Australia?
0:24:42 > 0:24:46It's very difficult to actually choose between the UK and Australia,
0:24:46 > 0:24:53but I suppose, the one thing that was different, which is the fun factor, I will have to make my vote for...
0:24:53 > 0:24:55Australia.
0:24:59 > 0:25:03These days, Australian cuisine has the reputation to rival anywhere
0:25:03 > 0:25:07in the world, and nowhere more so than in the restaurants in Sydney.
0:25:07 > 0:25:10We found out what's hot and what's not on the menu.
0:25:10 > 0:25:14Sydney stands alone as one of the food capitals of the world.
0:25:14 > 0:25:17It does its own thing. It does some really great food,
0:25:17 > 0:25:21which brings together a lot of food styles from around the world
0:25:21 > 0:25:24that reflects the people who live here, the chefs who work here.
0:25:24 > 0:25:28They come from Indonesia, they come from Ireland, they come from America,
0:25:28 > 0:25:32they come from Thailand. It's fantastic, because you can see
0:25:32 > 0:25:34that they can bring different types of skill.
0:25:34 > 0:25:41The surge of migrants means that Sydney's food scene is now ranked within the top 10 in the world.
0:25:41 > 0:25:45A lot of people who've moved here, they've gone looking for the things
0:25:45 > 0:25:48they had back home, not found it, so started growing it.
0:25:48 > 0:25:54What we see down here is the freshness, the availability, the sunny country.
0:25:54 > 0:25:59It's really the best place to be a chef, because we have beautiful produce from the sea,
0:25:59 > 0:26:04we have beautiful produce from the land, and really, there's nothing better for a chef to work with.
0:26:04 > 0:26:08A lot of the styles of food, like Thai food, Vietnamese food,
0:26:08 > 0:26:14is really quite relatively cheap, so you will eat out because you just don't feel like cooking.
0:26:14 > 0:26:18Anyone interested in food really should come to Sydney,
0:26:18 > 0:26:20because it's a great place to come and eat.
0:26:24 > 0:26:27Jason and Ninu Huddlestone and baby Naia from Middlesex want a bit of
0:26:27 > 0:26:33the laid-back Aussie lifestyle with less of a commute to work for Jason.
0:26:33 > 0:26:35That hour-each-way drive is hard work.
0:26:35 > 0:26:39It would be nice to go somewhere where that wasn't the case.
0:26:39 > 0:26:44They hope they'll get more for their money, but the older properties in Sydney were a huge disappointment.
0:26:44 > 0:26:47Initially, I expected the houses to be slightly bigger.
0:26:47 > 0:26:52I think all houses have been quite small, compared to our expectations.
0:26:52 > 0:26:57At work, Jason experienced the Aussies' chilled-out attitude first hand.
0:26:57 > 0:27:00But how will they cope with leaving friends and family behind?
0:27:00 > 0:27:02You know, the family might need us.
0:27:02 > 0:27:05Yeah, I think that's the most difficult.
0:27:08 > 0:27:11The Huddlestones are keen to swap the hurly-burly of life
0:27:11 > 0:27:15in outer London for a more sedate way of doing things in Australia.
0:27:15 > 0:27:19For instance - climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
0:27:23 > 0:27:30Leaving Naia with a child minder, their tour guide, Adam, fills them in on Sydney's landmarks.
0:27:30 > 0:27:33Is that a little fort or something in the middle? What's that?
0:27:33 > 0:27:35It is, yeah. That is called Fort Denison,
0:27:35 > 0:27:38a defence system we used to use in the early days of Sydney.
0:27:38 > 0:27:42In case we're going to be attacked from anyone, we built the fort
0:27:42 > 0:27:46to make sure we could protect Sydney, protect its early settlers.
0:27:48 > 0:27:50Wow! Talk about outdoor living.
0:27:50 > 0:27:55- How high are we now?- Round about the halfway mark, so I'd say about 80 metres above sea level.
0:27:55 > 0:27:59Even up here, they're still looking for their dream home.
0:27:59 > 0:28:03They want a bigger house, but maybe they're thinking too big.
0:28:03 > 0:28:07That's called Admiralty House. It's where the Governor General of Australia lives,
0:28:07 > 0:28:12so, obviously, very secure. That's the Prime Minister's residence there as well.
0:28:12 > 0:28:16You're really in the midst of some of the hierarchy of Australia right there.
0:28:17 > 0:28:24The higher they go, the more they realise just how vast Sydney is and what it could offer.
0:28:24 > 0:28:26Amazing!
0:28:30 > 0:28:36Well, we're on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and it's absolutely fantastic. You can see everything.
0:28:36 > 0:28:38The entire harbour here.
0:28:38 > 0:28:44You start to really get a feel of the size of the city and how it's just sprawled out for miles and miles
0:28:44 > 0:28:48and miles all way across to the blue mountains in the distance. It's an amazing view.
0:28:48 > 0:28:52Yeah, and what's also great is you can see how close the beaches are.
0:28:52 > 0:28:55So, Bondi and Manly Beach.
0:28:55 > 0:28:59It's got all the landmarks that you expect to see. I mean, you're on one of the big landmarks.
0:28:59 > 0:29:03The opera house over there and the harbour stretching out in front of you.
0:29:03 > 0:29:06- So it's exactly what you wanted to see.- It's beautiful.
0:29:11 > 0:29:15With their feet firmly back on the ground, do they think Sydney
0:29:15 > 0:29:18can offer them the way of life they're looking for?
0:29:18 > 0:29:21Sydney offers just as much, if not more, than London.
0:29:21 > 0:29:25And with the fantastic experience we had this morning, as well,
0:29:25 > 0:29:29it's clearly got a lot to offer on the lifestyle side of things.
0:29:29 > 0:29:35From what I've seen at the top of the bridge, Sydney is vast and it has parks and bushland.
0:29:35 > 0:29:40I think, yeah, compared to England, the weather will just be fantastic.
0:29:40 > 0:29:44Well, yeah, it's spring now and it feels about 20 degrees.
0:29:44 > 0:29:48It's lovely and sunny and you wouldn't get that in the UK, so I can't imagine what summer's like!
0:29:48 > 0:29:54I think it has lifted the kind of disappointment that we felt initially regarding Sydney.
0:29:54 > 0:29:57Yeah, it makes life feel a little better.
0:29:58 > 0:30:02Ninu and Jason have been won over by the beauty of the harbour,
0:30:02 > 0:30:06but if they have to live and the outer suburbs, all this won't be on their doorstep.
0:30:06 > 0:30:09So, how will they vote on the Australian lifestyle?
0:30:09 > 0:30:16Comparing Australian lifestyle and family activities to the UK, I choose...
0:30:16 > 0:30:18Australia.
0:30:18 > 0:30:20And my vote is...
0:30:20 > 0:30:21Australia.
0:30:27 > 0:30:32Jason and Ninu would both struggle to cut family ties in the UK.
0:30:32 > 0:30:35If they were to emigrate to Australia, they'd have to be sure
0:30:35 > 0:30:40they'd find a new social circle of friends to alleviate their loss.
0:30:40 > 0:30:42Finding a shared interest is a start.
0:30:42 > 0:30:46So Jason and Ninu have come to a wine-tasting class.
0:30:46 > 0:30:51And who better to introduce them to Australian wine than Stefan?
0:30:51 > 0:30:54He's what Aussies call a Fraussie.
0:30:54 > 0:30:56From England!
0:30:56 > 0:31:02- That's a French-Australian to you and me.- Thank you very much.
0:31:02 > 0:31:07What I'll do, just to crack the first bottle of wine and let's get started. Be right back!
0:31:09 > 0:31:11THEY CHAT
0:31:13 > 0:31:17I have been here for 15 years, and I didn't know about Australian wine before.
0:31:17 > 0:31:22A lot of people says, "Oh, what do you reckon about the Aussie wine, compared to the French wine?"
0:31:22 > 0:31:24Very, very hard to compare them.
0:31:24 > 0:31:29I am an Aussie as well. I should say my son is a little Fraussie.
0:31:29 > 0:31:33Anyway, now, on the first nose, very fresh.
0:31:33 > 0:31:36Four words to describe wine.
0:31:36 > 0:31:41Fun, friends, love, passion. If you don't like it, leave it.
0:31:41 > 0:31:43It doesn't matter, we will go to the next.
0:31:43 > 0:31:46Be objective and have fun. Very, very important.
0:31:46 > 0:31:53- I love the fact that with wine, there's no such thing as a right or wrong opinion.- Of course not.
0:31:53 > 0:31:56It's about what you like and about what you want to eat it with.
0:31:56 > 0:31:59Put your nose into it and tell me what you think.
0:31:59 > 0:32:05As I said before, everyone has got five senses. A woman has got six, especially Ninu.
0:32:05 > 0:32:08Now, guys, how do you like that?
0:32:08 > 0:32:11Strong, citrussy and sweet.
0:32:11 > 0:32:16Sweet? It is like, in the end of it, citrussy, definitely.
0:32:16 > 0:32:18You're absolutely right.
0:32:18 > 0:32:22You see, on one nose, it goes, "Oh, my God!"
0:32:22 > 0:32:25You have got memories coming out. I remember,
0:32:25 > 0:32:3010 years ago, I lost my father, and my father used to have Chablis.
0:32:30 > 0:32:32Chablis, Chardonnay-based.
0:32:32 > 0:32:36When I put a Chablis on my nose, I think about him.
0:32:36 > 0:32:39So, it's more the story behind it.
0:32:39 > 0:32:41Let's get to the next.
0:32:41 > 0:32:45Oh, you can't beat the French for romance.
0:32:45 > 0:32:49As the wine continues to flow, what did Jason and Ninu think
0:32:49 > 0:32:52about the idea of making friends over a glass or two?
0:32:52 > 0:32:55Or is that three, Jason?
0:32:55 > 0:33:02The combination of the jet lag, the lack of sleep because of the baby waking us up at 4.15am
0:33:02 > 0:33:07and three glasses of wine or however much, I'm feeling pretty good at the moment, actually, yeah.
0:33:07 > 0:33:11The people are very friendly, they're very keen to share their thoughts
0:33:11 > 0:33:15and they are generally really happy, friendly people.
0:33:15 > 0:33:21Initially, I was quite apprehensive about not making friends, being quite lonely,
0:33:21 > 0:33:26but by doing an activity like this, it has opened our eyes up that we can make friends.
0:33:26 > 0:33:31Even just walking around in the street, people are actually not afraid to look at you.
0:33:31 > 0:33:36In London, you're not even allowed to make eye contact, almost, with people.
0:33:36 > 0:33:41- It's all very confrontational. - For the stage of life that we are at, raising a young family,
0:33:41 > 0:33:45it probably is a better place to be than back home.
0:33:46 > 0:33:49Is there no end to the Australian hospitality?
0:33:49 > 0:33:51We'll drink it now.
0:33:51 > 0:33:55If you put it one more year in your cellar, what's the use?
0:33:55 > 0:33:59No, the point is it's ready to drink. That's my philosophy on wine.
0:33:59 > 0:34:02When it's ready, drink it.
0:34:02 > 0:34:05I am so happy for you guys,
0:34:05 > 0:34:10you have just arrived in Australia and I am giving you that pleasure.
0:34:10 > 0:34:15I love giving not only one person pleasure, I love giving 200 person pleasure.
0:34:15 > 0:34:17And we're nearly neighbours!
0:34:17 > 0:34:19I am from Dieppe!
0:34:19 > 0:34:21That's pretty close.
0:34:21 > 0:34:26- Chin-chin!- Chin chin! Thanks, mate. - Cheers, mate.
0:34:28 > 0:34:33Sorry to put an end to all this jollity, but it's time to vote on making friends.
0:34:33 > 0:34:37For the potential of making friends in Australia I vote...
0:34:37 > 0:34:38Australia.
0:34:38 > 0:34:43Most Australians we've met so far been very friendly, so I've no doubt that we could make friends
0:34:43 > 0:34:48over here, so my vote for making friends in Australia is most definitely...
0:34:48 > 0:34:50Oz.
0:34:50 > 0:34:56As the end of their week draws near, Ninu and Jason reflect on their life-changing decision.
0:34:56 > 0:34:59We almost offended the estate agents we spoke to when we said
0:34:59 > 0:35:04we don't like Federation, the older style of housing that's all over Sydney.
0:35:04 > 0:35:07We didn't know that in Sydney that was the type of house that was
0:35:07 > 0:35:11sought after and it was, you know, the most expensive sort of type.
0:35:11 > 0:35:15The more Federation elements you had in your house, the better.
0:35:15 > 0:35:19It's a bit of surprise, actually, because we expected something significantly more
0:35:19 > 0:35:24than what we think we've already got back in the UK, and I don't think we saw that.
0:35:24 > 0:35:27It was and is still surprising that Sydney is so expensive
0:35:27 > 0:35:32and to afford the house we would like, our dream house, is probably not within our budget.
0:35:32 > 0:35:38Certainly, if we moved to Sydney, we would be downsizing,
0:35:38 > 0:35:42which is a bit of a disappointment.
0:35:42 > 0:35:46With the work side of things, it was a nice surprise in that they seem to have a lot more fun,
0:35:46 > 0:35:50or at least tried to have more fun than the work environment that I'm in.
0:35:50 > 0:35:53Hopefully nobody at work sees that bit, but I'm sure they'll understand.
0:35:53 > 0:35:57Australia is a lovely place to be. Sydney is a wonderful city.
0:35:57 > 0:36:00It's lots of fun, everyone seemed really laid-back and friendly,
0:36:00 > 0:36:06because we have heard that some parts of Australia can be slightly racist.
0:36:06 > 0:36:08And we didn't see any of that in Sydney.
0:36:08 > 0:36:13It was, every culture, big pot of everybody just getting on with it
0:36:13 > 0:36:16and being friendly, happy and getting on with their jobs.
0:36:16 > 0:36:20There might still be areas on outskirts that are not so sort of multicultural,
0:36:20 > 0:36:24but I don't think I'm too worried now, having been, so...
0:36:24 > 0:36:29A decision, I don't think, is any clearer in my head as to what we're going to do.
0:36:29 > 0:36:35If you're trying to set up home, you need to find a house you love,
0:36:35 > 0:36:39and until you find that, it is very difficult to have any serious thought of coming.
0:36:39 > 0:36:42I don't know how to make this decision, to be honest.
0:36:42 > 0:36:45It's going to be hard. It's going to be very hard.
0:36:49 > 0:36:54However friendly the locals, the fact remains, they could never replace family entirely.
0:36:54 > 0:36:58We showed the Huddlestones some messages from their loved ones back home.
0:36:58 > 0:37:03First up are Ninu's mother and father, who has recently been unwell.
0:37:05 > 0:37:08- Ready, then?- OK.
0:37:10 > 0:37:13Hello, Jason. Hello, Ninu. Hello, Naia.
0:37:13 > 0:37:16Me and Ninu have a really good relationship
0:37:16 > 0:37:21and we can be very open with each other and very honest.
0:37:21 > 0:37:23She is a very caring older sister.
0:37:23 > 0:37:26- Ninu is delightful.- Yes. - She's a lovely girl.
0:37:26 > 0:37:32And now she's given us a little granddaughter, which I think is an absolute miniature Ninu.
0:37:32 > 0:37:39- She's gorgeous!- Ninu is a brilliant, brilliant sort of girl.
0:37:39 > 0:37:43And she is a lively person, you know.
0:37:43 > 0:37:46She is very hard-working, yeah.
0:37:46 > 0:37:52And we think whatever she pursues in life, she is definitely going to make it a success.
0:37:52 > 0:37:55Naia's made a huge difference to our family.
0:37:55 > 0:37:59She's probably the best thing the family has got at the moment.
0:37:59 > 0:38:03Naia's a very cute girl.
0:38:03 > 0:38:05Small little cutie thing.
0:38:05 > 0:38:07She was very, very excited,
0:38:07 > 0:38:10but I was feeling kind of, oh, you know, I am sad.
0:38:10 > 0:38:14- I don't really want her to go. - I was really angry, actually.
0:38:14 > 0:38:16For purely selfish reasons.
0:38:16 > 0:38:22I was like, "How could you consider leaving me and the family?"
0:38:22 > 0:38:29If, in Sydney, they could meet or make friends with other cultures,
0:38:29 > 0:38:36it would be better for Naia, because we would like her to be brought up in a society where
0:38:36 > 0:38:41it's not just only whites or Indians, but it's multicultural.
0:38:41 > 0:38:48It is very difficult when you go to another country and you start from fresh, you know.
0:38:48 > 0:38:52And you have to build up new friendships.
0:38:52 > 0:38:55It's gonna be hard. I know, because I have been through this.
0:38:55 > 0:39:02I'd just miss not being able to see my son mature
0:39:02 > 0:39:07and I shall just miss not being able to watch Naia grow.
0:39:07 > 0:39:14Considering our family situation with my dad's health, it is a difficult situation.
0:39:14 > 0:39:15I have to be honest.
0:39:15 > 0:39:19In my heart, I would like to say to them, "Please don't go,
0:39:19 > 0:39:23"because we're going to miss you and we'd like you to be here."
0:39:23 > 0:39:25But I have no right to do that.
0:39:25 > 0:39:27It's not happened.
0:39:27 > 0:39:31And until it does, you don't really know exactly how you're going to cope with it.
0:39:31 > 0:39:37But so far, we've coped with everything that has come along and I think we'd cope with that.
0:39:37 > 0:39:39Well, we'd have to, wouldn't we?
0:39:39 > 0:39:42You know, you're such a good emotional support for me
0:39:42 > 0:39:45and I think this'll just force me to grow up a bit.
0:39:45 > 0:39:48I do hope you enjoy your time over there.
0:39:48 > 0:39:50I hope you enjoy all the experiences...
0:39:50 > 0:39:52and I'm getting emotional!
0:39:52 > 0:39:55- We want you to know that we love you.- Yes.
0:39:55 > 0:39:59So, bye for now, and take care,
0:39:59 > 0:40:02- and remember, we love you. - And see you soon.
0:40:02 > 0:40:03See you soon, yeah.
0:40:13 > 0:40:15Mentioning my dad's sort of ill health at the moment...
0:40:15 > 0:40:21Yeah I think...
0:40:21 > 0:40:25to be sort of thinking about being away
0:40:25 > 0:40:27or moving away when perhaps,
0:40:27 > 0:40:32you know, the family might need us...
0:40:32 > 0:40:34Yeah, I think that's the most difficult...
0:40:34 > 0:40:40Almost, in their hearts, they're almost letting go already,
0:40:40 > 0:40:42and we haven't even made our decision yet,
0:40:42 > 0:40:46so that makes it quite, erm, hard to see.
0:40:46 > 0:40:51They're full of love for us and us for them.
0:40:51 > 0:40:54- So we wish we could just bring them with us.- Yes, it's...
0:40:54 > 0:40:59The distance is too great. You can't just suddenly do a halfway house on this.
0:40:59 > 0:41:04You go and you leave them behind and you may see them once, maybe twice a year at most.
0:41:07 > 0:41:10The more I think about it, the more I don't like that idea.
0:41:10 > 0:41:12- No, it's not a nice idea.- No.
0:41:15 > 0:41:19It's the end of their trial week in Sydney and the Huddlestones have packed a lot in.
0:41:19 > 0:41:21They've hit the heights...
0:41:23 > 0:41:25Now I'm at the top, it feels amazing.
0:41:25 > 0:41:26..and the lows.
0:41:26 > 0:41:29It's old. It is totally not us.
0:41:29 > 0:41:32They're looking for some peace and quiet.
0:41:32 > 0:41:34Planes.
0:41:34 > 0:41:35Just like back at home!
0:41:35 > 0:41:40Jason's scored at work with the salary and the fun factor.
0:41:43 > 0:41:48But for Ninu, leaving her family would be the hardest thing she's ever done.
0:41:48 > 0:41:53To be thinking about moving away when, you know, the family might need us...
0:41:53 > 0:41:56So, will their dream of a new life on the other side of the world
0:41:56 > 0:42:00be dashed by the pull of friends and family back home?
0:42:00 > 0:42:02It's time for the final vote.
0:42:02 > 0:42:06Will they choose to stay in the UK or move to Australia?
0:42:06 > 0:42:09I think, at this stage,
0:42:09 > 0:42:14it hasn't quite been what I was hoping for and therefore,
0:42:14 > 0:42:18for my life, in the future, I will have to...
0:42:18 > 0:42:20stay with the UK.
0:42:20 > 0:42:24For now, if I really, really had to think about which country I need
0:42:24 > 0:42:29to pick after my just one week in Sydney, I'd have to say...
0:42:29 > 0:42:30UK.
0:42:34 > 0:42:36Sorry!
0:42:38 > 0:42:41I haven't found a house. It's as simple as that.
0:42:41 > 0:42:46Sydney just wasn't quite all that I wanted, because of the house.
0:42:46 > 0:42:51For me, I am completely shocked today that I would prefer
0:42:51 > 0:42:55to stay at home, but it is purely because of family.
0:42:55 > 0:43:03With so many things to consider, this has been the biggest challenge of their lives.
0:43:03 > 0:43:07Despite being disappointed at the type of properties they could afford,
0:43:07 > 0:43:12the Huddlestones found life in Australia very much to their taste.
0:43:12 > 0:43:16But in the end, the pull of family and friends proved too much,
0:43:16 > 0:43:19and it seems they won't be moving where they're wanted, down under.
